2. The Cause And Effects Of The Mini Ice Age
The mini ice age, or Little Ice Age (LIA), was a period of time characterized by a decrease in
temperatures worldwide. Although there are no definite times for the start and end of the Little Ice
Age, it is generally accepted that it occurred from approximately 1300 CE to 1850 CE. The coldest
stage of this time lasted from around 1645 to 1715. Also, the expansion of mountain glaciers in several
locations was a distinctive feature of the Little Ice Age. The event had various effects and its origins
are disputable. Several causes of the Little Ice Age have been proposed. One of them describes a
decrease in sunspot activity, or times when dark spots form on the sun due to low temperatures. The
lack of sunspots during the LIA is known as the Maunder Minimum. Since it appeared to occur
concurrently with the coldest part of the ice age, from 1645 to 1715, it was considered a plausible
reason to explain the Little Ice Age. However, this theory has its flaws, because modeled simulations
point to the idea that temperatures would ve dropped to a maximum of 0.4ºC, when the world saw
actual decreases of 1 2ºC. Furthermore, the Little Ice Age started before the Maunder Minimum
happened, so additional information is needed to explain the original cause of the LIA.
Another idea for the catalyst of the Little Ice Age involves the North Atlantic Oscillation
(NAO), a circulation of atmospheric pressure in North America and northern Europe. Typical, or
positive NAO is shown when a

3. Sparta And Athens Comparison Essay
The poleis of Athens and Sparta both had similarities and differences to each other, because of this,
these poleis make excellent candidates to compare and contrast. For one thing, Athens and Sparta both
had starkly different governments, Athens had a government where Athenian land owning males could
voice their opinions, while Sparta had an oligarchy. Athens had one of the best navies for the time
period, while Sparta had one of the strongest land forces, the Spartiates. Also, Athens cared more for
luxury items than Sparta and Athens pursued knowledge instead of military power, unlike Sparta.
Although Sparta and Athens had many differences, they also had some similarities, such as how both
poleis had very strong armies. Athens and Sparta ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sparta there was very little value placed on luxury items, until the fourth century BCE, when
aristocratic families became wealthy, and male children were taken at the age of seven to be trained as
warriors. The reason for this was because the main focus of life to Sparta was their military, which
allowed them to maintain control over the helots and maintain public order, and anything that did not
help the military was considered to not be very useful. While in Athens there was a heavy value placed
on luxury items and a high value on aristocratic ideals. This was because the main focus in Athens was
the pursuit of knowledge and prosperity. Many well known philosophers came from Athens, such as
Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates. In both of these poleis, the governments tried to prevent class
distinctions between civilians. Part of the reason Spartans did not have many luxuries was because
everyone in Sparta was considered equal in status and the government wanted to discourage the
development of social and class distinctions. While in Athens, it showed that the commoners were
displeased that the aristocrats had more luxuries than they did so they ended up rebelling, which in
turn caused Athenian democracy to become the government so all Athenian land owning males had a

Twinkle Twinkle, Crunch Crunch, Brr Brr, don t you hear that? That is the sound of Winter. You know
what Winter means, it means snowflakes. Snowflakes are beautiful, but do you ever wonder where
they come from? Snowflakes could light you up, and create the most magical and exiting moments.
Snowflakes could be made out of water particles, it could have ice crystals, and it could have to do
with temperature. Who knows? That is why this essay is going to tell you about the unbelievable facts
about snowflakes. Snowflakes are beautiful and enjoyable because of their marvelous formations,
unique creations, and their extraordinary causes. To begin with, the formation and the way snowflakes
are created are absolutely fascinating. According to Tabitha Walker who wrote the article Snow Day,
she explains how the beautiful snowflake are formed in the inner clouds above. First of all, the water

In the article Snow Day, by Tabitha Walker, she explains the ways of how the snowflake s process can
be complete. Precipitation only falls as snow when the air temperature is 32 degrees Fahrenheit or
below. However, if the air is 15 degree Fahrenheit or below, the snowflakes might not generate
because they need moisture to generate. When the temperature is freezing, the more heavy snow will
fall. If you want bigger snowflakes then you need more moisture in the air, if you want smaller
snowflakes you need less moisture and more freezing temperature. Another important factor needed
for snowflakes is ground temperature. Ground temperature is needed to be able to determine whether
the snowflakes will stick to the ground. Ground temperature is often more warmer because the ground
absorbs more heat from Sun than the air. This is how the process of the magical causes gets
snowflakes to the

The Good, the Bad, and the Unknown: PMC s in Iraq remains the title of one of the many articles
debating the heavy controversy of PMC s effectiveness. However the title itself hints towards a clear
direction. The bad and the unknown immediately strikes us as readers, because what is worse than the
not known, and the bad when in a political crisis? Contractors should not be given the opportunity to
rise to the position of a soldiers job. Our lack of information about where these applicants are coming
from as well as where their true loyalty lies make this company unreliable and suspicious. Along with
this variability, contractors rip the rightful payment that should be directly given to the soldiers. This

1. How would you describe the competitive strategy of the ALLTEL Pavilion? Given the firm s
strategy, what are the most important Key Performance Indicators (e.g., quantitative measures) for the
Pavilion to track and manage if it is to achieve its goal of continuous annual growth in operating
income?
ALLTEL Pavilion is operated by SFX Entertainment in an outdoor atmosphere for its customers.
ALLTEL attempts to create a competitive advantage as the major outdoor concert venue in the
Triangle area of North Carolina consisting of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The amphitheater has
art like acoustics and video differentiating the venue with trying to keep costs budgeted for each
concert. The Key Performance Indicators are based on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B. How many tickets must ALLTEL Pavilion sell to earn $30,000 operating income after taxes,
assuming a 40 percent tax rate?
Is it reasonable to assume this level of operating income will be achieved? Briefly explain. $30,000 /
(1 0.40) = 4x($40.08 $3.05) + 1x($13.09 $3.05) $263,245 $30,000 / (1 0.40) = x($158.16) $265,245
$30,000 = x($94.896) $157,947 $187,947 = x($94.896) x = 1980.5577 tickets 1(1980.5577) = 1981
comp tickets 4(1980.5577) = 7923 paying tickets in order to earn $30,000 Operating Income after
taxes The total number of 7923 paying tickets is reasonable to be achieved, although it is above the
number of 7000 tickets that the reserved seating can actually hold at ALLTEL Pavilion.
3. What should be the average ticket price (for all ticket types combined A through D) for the KFBS
concert if the fixed pay fee is $200,000 (rather than $160,635) and the Pavilion expects to sell 7,000
tickets and wants to earn $30,000 operating income after 40 percent in taxes?
After you estimate the average ticket price for all ticket types combined (which is $22.12 for the
situation depicted in Exhibit 2), estimate the price for each type of seat (i.e., in Exhibit 2: A $36.29, B
$22.22, C $11.31, D $4.92). [Hint: assume the sales mix for A, B, C, and D seats remains the same as
the mix in the Flash Report (Exhibit 2).] $30,000 / (1 0.40) = 7000 ($13.09 $3.05)

9. Essay Comparing The Go-Between And Lolita
The author s narrative point of views portrayed in The Go Between by L.P. Hartley and in Lolita by
Vladimir Nabokov influences the reader s response and interpretation in different ways. While in The
Go Between, the story is narrated by the child victim Leo Colston, and in Lolita the narrator is
Humbert Humbert, the adult stepfather who sexually and emotionally abuses Lolita. This essay will
summarize the different points of views by both narrators and how the reader response to and
interprets these novels. Was Leo Colston just a child victim of adult manipulators? Is Humbert
Humbert just seen as a heartless monster who takes advantage of a young female child?

Nabokov also allows Humbert to narrate the details of his life with Lolita, in which the story
illustrates the difficulties intrinsic in an attempt to order familiarity through art.
As Humbert tries to develop an ideal vision of his relationship with Lolita, he manipulates the readers
responses to him in order to gain sympathy and to affect a deferment of judgment. Humbert presents a
poetic representation of Lolita and his life with her. Humbert admits I hope I am addressing myself to
unbiased readers. (285)
In an effort to provide himself with a justification for his fixation with Lolita, Humbert details his
relationship with Annabel, Lolita s predecessor at the beginning of the novel. Of his teenager
relationship with Annabel, he writes the spiritual and the physical had been blended in us with a
perfection that must remain incomprehensible to the matter of fact, crude, standard brained youngsters

well as his relationship with Lolita. In the end, though, catastrophic realism emerges within his

10. Figurative Language In Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
The short story Scarlet Ibis written by James Hurst is about a boy who narrates the adventures of his
young brother William Armstrong, otherwise known as Doodle, and himself. Doodle is different than
any other brother or you would find in a book, and his physical ability along with appearance in this
story are considered a burden . After spending an abundance of time during class reading and
extracting examples of figurative language in this story, we were given the task to find the theme of
Scarlet Ibis . The theme I have found within this story which is that pride and infallibility don t result
in but often regret and despair. Furthermore I have found multiple quotes from the story that back my
theme up. The first quote I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn t walk, so I set
out to teach him. (Hurst np)this supports the narrator s pride that gets in the way of letting his brother

The quote I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life
and death. (Hurst np)also perfectly illustrates the theme. The narrator is telling the audience the
terrible side affects of pride which is both a feeling of satisfaction and guiltiness. There is also
figurative language within this quote which is symbolism because it says [about pride] a seed that
bears two vines (Hurst np), additionally this could be foreshadowing Doodle s death later within the
story. The last quote I have acquired front the story is It was too late to turn back, for we had both
wandered too far into a net of expectations and had left no crumbs behind. (Hurst np). This quote
indicates to the reader that the expectations are just the narrator s pride getting in the way of letting his
infallibility go. The quote also has figurative language which is a

11. Violent Media Aggression
Many parents go through the same cycle in regards to dealing with their children. Kids come home
from a long day of school and want a distraction from all the knowledge they consumed that day.
However, a parent does not always have the time or even the ability to entertain their kids, so while
they remain in the kitchen finishing preparing dinner, their children sit on the couch and engage in
video games. Obviously, each parent wants what is best for their child and worries about the effect of
all these violent video games corrupt with shooting, punching, blood, gore, and of course, death.
Which is exactly what leads them to this question. Researchers at Ohio State University asked parents,
media researchers, pediatricians, and psychologists of their opinion on this matter and here is what
they observed: 66 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s hardly a controversy, Bushman said. With the general consensus about the harmful effects of
media violence, it may seem surprising that some people still question the effects of violent media on
aggression. One important reason is that people don t distinguish between aggression and violence.
These two things are not the same; aggression is a lot less worrisome and harmful than violent
behavior because it does not indicate inflicting pain on another person. But will violent shooting
games and the like be the reason your son punched his brother in the arm when he made fun of him at
dinner tonight? According to Senior Pediatric Psychopharmacologist Dr. Raul R. Silva, childhood
aggression is a symptom of many different underlying problems and is packaged and presented
differently in each kid, seen much more frequently in boys who typically have more energy to dispose.
Violent video games seldom lead to violent behavior, and the distinction between aggressive and
violent behavior should be a focal point for parents of where to toe the

12. Amelogenesis Imperfecta is a Disorder that Causes a Lack...
Amelogenesis Imperfecta is a tooth development disorder which is caused by lack of protein in the
tooth enamel. Amelogenesis imperfecta affects the dental enamel, occasionally in conjunction with
other dental, oral and extraoral tissues (Crawford). This disorder causes teeth to be discolored,
unusually small, and inclined to rapid wear and breakage ( Amelogenesis Imperfecta ). Researchers
have described at least fourteen forms of amelogenesis imperfecta which can vary among affected
individuals of both primary teeth and permanent teeth ( Amelogenesis Imperfecta ). The essential
genes for normal tooth development which provide instructions for making proteins in the enamel are
the AMELX, ENAM, and MMPO20 genes (Office of Rare Diseases Research). Proteins such as
amelogenin, ameloblastin, and enamelin are critical for normal formation of the enamel (
Amelogenesis Imperfecta ). Enamel is the protective layer of tissue which protects the tooth from
painful temperatures end chemicals (Office of Rare Diseases Research). Enamel is 97% mineral by
weight with approximately 1% protein and 2% water (Wright). In Amelogenesis Imperfecta, the
AMELX, ENAM, and MMP20 genes will be mutated and will alter the structure of the proteins or
prevent any proteins from being made at all ( Amelogenesis Imperfecta ). This condition presents
problems of socializing with others and discomfort, but they may be managed early by vigorous

13. Feudalism And The Code Of Chivalry
The act of Feudalism and The Code of Chivalry both arose sometime during the medieval time period.
Feudalism was said to be based on the exchange of land for military service ( Feudalism ). This meant
the King would reward those who were loyal to him and fought during battle with land. Life lived
under the Medieval Feudal System, or Feudalism, demanded that everyone owed allegiance to the
King and their immediate superior ( Feudalism ). This lead to the creation of The Feudalism Pyramid,
which changed England s society.
The Feudalism Pyramid segregated and ranked individuals based on the amount of power one
obtained. Obtaining power was usually based on the amount of land one owned. However, the ranking

October 10, 2010 St. Augustine s work, The City of God, portrays the Roman virtue and describes it s
affect on the manners of the Romans. Though the people did not worship God, St. Augustine points
out that God still blessed them by increasing their dominion. In this text, Augustine finds many
aspects of the ethos Roman Empire both admirable and problematic. He does this in a way that gives
the reader a better understanding on his views of how to live a life dedicated to God. He also shows
the problems of living for other men rather than living for the righteousness of God. Augustine speaks
of the manners of the ancient Romans, and shows in what sense it was due to the virtue of the Romans
themselves, and in how far to the counsel of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows the greatness with being pure in all ways and waiting for the good things in life and not

they have done for God. In To What Profit the Romans Carried on Wars, and How Much They
Contributed to the Well Being of Those Whom They Conquered, Augustine wrote that humans,
because mortal and are only on earth for so long, shouldn t be concerned over whose government a
dying man lives, if they who govern do not force him to impiety and iniquity? The Romans tried to
impose laws and regulations on nations they took over but they themselves did not live by these. If
everyone was under the Roman Empire, than everyone in that empire should have the same privileges
and rights. It does no good, according to Augustine, to do this. Take away outward show, and what are
all men after all but men? But even though the perversity of the age should permit that all the better
men should be more highly honored than others, neither thus should human honor be held at a great

15. Evaluation Of A New Hybrid Strategy
Abstract
Testing is an important process in software development and widely used by developers to reveal
bugs. Often, software failures can lead to disastrous consequences such as loss of data, fortune and
lives. Test engineers have generated a set of test cases to validate against the user requirements. The
highest number of reduction can save a cost of testing. When dealing with a large line of code (LOCs)
there still has redundancy happened. Our experiment studies about hybrid tReduct GNA_SA and the
existing strategies to counter test redundancy reduction issues. In our experiment, we apply four
(tReductLAHC, tReductSA, tReductGNA and tReduct GNA_SA) test suite reduction strategies for six
different situation. After that, we then measure the effectiveness of the diversified solutions of four
test suite reduction strategies. Our experiment shows that a new hybrid strategy tReduct GNA_SA
offers more effectiveness to reduce redundancy compared to existing work.

16. European Integration Through The Decades Essay
In its historical context discuss why and how the EU was set up and the advantages and disadvantages
of membership.
Europe was a politically and fragile continent after the Second World War that claimed millions of
lives. It is in that background, that the first steps to European integration were taken with the
establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). The celebrated Schuman Plan, laid
the foundation for the first real supra national economy in the world, that is, the ECSC. The European
integration continued through the decades with the establishment of the European Economic
Community (ECC) and the European Union (EU). In the recent period, the EU has come under intense
questioning with the economic crisis in Europe starting 2007. The recent Brexit vote has put further
questions on the future of the EU. This essay considers the process of European integration through
the decades and also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the union.
The Second World War resulted in economic devastation; however, it is remarkable how fast Europe
recovered after the war and economists do refer to this period as the Golden Age of European
economic growth . Despite the economic recovery in Europe, there were few areas of discord, one of
these being the French favouring a Customs Union and the English wanting a Free Trade Area.
Moreover, there was distrust between France and Germany, which impacted the initial years of
integration . Nevertheless, the European

20. My Family Is Not The Typical Caucasian Family Dynamic
As with any family, ours is not the typical Caucasian family dynamic. We began with my husband as
the traditional breadwinner while I was finishing my college education. It was planned that we both
would be working in careers before we discovered I was pregnancy with our first son. Three months
later my spouse would suffer a great tragedy and was no longer able to walk, much less work. I would
have to take on the role of not only breadwinner, but also caregiver and mother within the next year.
Our family does not have the duel career supporting parents as suggested in the text regarding our
ethnic statistics.
Some similarities that our family has had with our African American ethnic families is that of the
maintaining and strong ties to our extended family, as stated in our text. Our families have often
pooled resources in order to support each other. My spouse and I have welcomed members into our
home when they were struggling to find work. Our house guests have ranged from: his brother, my

The Effects of Political Parties on a Democracy
There are indeed several aspects in the composition of political parties that threaten democracy in the
UK, whilst other aspects may promote democracy. Careful analysis must be done in order to establish
to what extent either is true.
On the one hand, it may be argued that parties in fact promote democracy for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, they assist the electorate by offering them a coherent choice, allowing people to vote
democratically. Rather than the electorate having to choose between several members of each party,
and having to place votes for central government subsequent to placing local constituency votes,
voting is made simple and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1997, New Labour capitalised on the number of women who were elected, establishing the
impression that the party is female friendly . The Conservative party is also aiming to recruit more
women and ethnic minority candidates in time for the upcoming general election in May 2005. It has
also given higher platforms to those women already elected: Several years ago, Theresa May was
appointed as party chairman. Not only by modernising themselves to represent current populations in
Britain, parties also modernise themselves by generating new ideas for changing times. The labour
party is the most famous for adapting its policies and ideology. Labour changed its name to New
Labour under the leadership of Tony Blair in 1997, to reflect these radical changes. At this time
Labour chose to adapt its policies, and lose a lot of its socialist values. Under Old Labour state
ownership was held under high regard. But after Thatcher s privatisation of state businesses, Labour
acknowledged that it would be dangerous to radically reform businesses and bring them back under
state ownership, thus they modernised their policies adapting them to the New Britain, by sticking to
privatisation which had been warmly received. This promotes democracy, as policies are adapted to
suit the electorate, rather than parties imposing unwanted, outdated ideologies upon its

23. The Growth Of Early Los Angeles
To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant
union station in old downtown on Alameda street. The buildings owes it begging to the American
phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern era
and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angeles that prior was just a
small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing
Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city s Spanish roots
through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told the
story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles was but also hinted at the industrial metropolis that
Los Angeles would be through the art deco language. Through the fine usage and mixture of elements
at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two languages of Art Deco modern
and Spanish mission style to form a landmark that is a remnant of a significant transitional period in
LA s history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th century los angles experienced a
period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase that followed. Furthermore there
was the need for a transportation hub that would serve as a common stop for vital transcontinental rail
lines that supported the city s industry, which included the Union Pacific

the story On The Sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter a young man named Andy regrets his choices as
he s staring death in the eyes. The moral of this story is to make choices you will not regret in the
future. Andy made choices in his life that he regrets in his last moments. Some of the choices he
regrets are joining the Royals gang, going to the ruble, and wearing the Royals jacket. The first way
Andy develops the theme is by joining the gang called the Royals. Although Andy was being stabbed,

31. Henry David Thoreau Joys Of Simple Life
Henry David Thoreau waxed poetic about the joys of the simple life. He lauded those in poverty for
their humility, self reliance, and the bare bones life they live. He came up with his ideas while
conducting an experiment: he spent two years living in isolation on Walden pond, connecting himself
with nature and giving him time to ponder his ideals. That s all well and good. The problem is, frankly
I disagree with some of the ideas he came up with. In fact I am of the opinion that some of them are
outright problematic. Let s discuss them. First, Thoreau seems to have put the poor on a pedestal. He
says, The shadows of poverty and meanness gather around us, and lo! Creation widens our view

I have a few problems with this. One, in these quotes and others he is basically saying that the poor
should be happy in their poverty, they have it so much better because they have it simple. Oh, they are
so humble, look at them accepting aid . This reeks of privilege. One of the things that rub me the
wrong way about the whole work is how Thoreau deals in extremes. He believes that life is at its best
when simple. I disagree in my opinion life is best experienced in a nuanced fashion; shades of grey
rather than black and white. Thoreau characterizes simplicity as the key to happiness, but what would
life be like if happiness was the sole emotion? PArt of what makes life worth living is the varied
experiences that come with the package. Yes, struggle is part of that package but it just makes the
indulgence all the richer. He makes his proposal based on experiences (how else?) and was influenced
by the time period, something to keep in mind. During that time period industrialization was rising up.
Sanitation was not a major concern and to be affluent was to be a slave owner. Equality was not the
norm. It s easy to see how one would become cynical. These facts inevitably influenced his
worldview. At the time of Thoreau s experiment, rural living was the environment most

32. Relationships Between Friendliness And Hostility And...
Abstract
In this study, we looked at the relationships between friendliness and hostility and agreeableness in
college students. We hypothesized that students who were high in friendliness would also be high in
agreeableness, while being low in hostility. We expected a strong correlation with agreeableness, and a
slightly strong correlation with hostility. However, when looking at all three traits we found that
agreeableness, while being the big umbrella it is, might not fully account for traits underneath it. As
well as friendliness and hostility having a stronger negative correlation than we anticipated.
Keywords: Friendliness, Hostility, Agreeableness, Personality
Friendliness in College age Students In this study we aimed to look at the personality trait of
friendliness. Friendliness can be defined as the good nature, amiability of one s personality. In other
words: how agreeable and outgoing one is towards others. Friendliness has been found to be more
prevalent in females than males (Moskowitz, 1993), and has been found to be generalized across
situations. In this research we want to look at college students to see if there is any significance
between friendliness and aggressiveness. To do this we have created our own friendliness scale and
compared it to the Iowa State Hostility Scale (Dill, Anderson, Anderson, Deuser, 1997) and the
agreeableness items from the Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) (Gosling, Augustine, Vazire,
Holtzman, Gaddis, 2011).

Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem like a
weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He could

much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was during the trial of
Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed through with the
crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book Pontius Pilate by Paul
L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after the life changing verdict.

I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the
magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately affected
his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the Jews to admit
they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it reaffirmed his
authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the Jews felt guilty about
the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus blood. After, the Jews replied
by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate operated the whole production so the
blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was very shocked to see such evil works from a

facts about America and how it governs itself. He talks of the danger of greed for money, the
importance of forming associations, and the power of influence in town government. Although many
of his observations have since changed, many of them bring about legitimate points about American

I believe we have been successful as a country in doing this. We have learned that we must rely on one

de Tocqueville also points out how powerful personal influence can be in town government. Consider
his quote, In towns it is impossible to prevent men from assembling, getting excited together and
forming sudden passionate resolves. Towns are like great meeting houses with all the inhabitants as
members. In them the people wield immense influence over their magistrates and often carry their
desires into execution without intermediaries. He is pointing out that local government will almost
always find ways to get around larger government because of the immediate interest of residents. In
reality, it is the people that run the government because they have the ability to remove elected
representatives if they aren t getting things done the way the people want. The problem is, many
people fail to realize this fact and just don t vote. The want to blame the problems of the country on
the elected officials although they are the ones that did, or in some cases, did not, vote for the person
who will make the voice of the people heard.
I think overall, de Tocqueville s view of America was right on key with many of my personal views. I

A narrative reading of Amélie (2001) directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet, is a quirky portrayal of modern

We see the progression of Amelie s character from childhood to adulthood. The opening sequence of
the film gives an insight of Amelie s childhood and establishes the main characters and their traits.
Young Amelie s traits are established in different scenes of the opening sequence, for example a mid

young Amelie used to play, like making silly faces, dominoes and finger games. These games belong

43. Community Based Health Promotion Programs
COMMUNITY HEALTH PROMOTION
Introduction
Community Based Health Promotion is a comprehensive, systematic, coordinated approach to long
term health behavior change by influencing the community (cultural) norms through education and
community organization. Studies show that most Americans want to lead healthy lives and are eager
to improve their lifestyles. In fact, many continuously attempt to change unhealthy behaviors, only to
fail. Most health promotion strategies assist individuals in changing health risk behaviors: self help
pamphlet distribution, individual counseling, group education classes, support groups, and health risk
appraisals. Careful evaluation of these strategies has shown that long term behavior change is very
difficult for most participants. The failure rate can be 80% or more. The best predictor of health
behavior and long lasting successful behavior change is often the culture in which a person lives.
Health promotion programs need to make it possible for the community to support healthy behaviors.
To do this successfully, the community and its leadership must be mobilized to provide community
based health promotion programs.

44. The Importance Of Sex Education
In America, Sex Education is put on the back burner when it comes to education, which is causing a
rise in teen pregnancy rates and STI/HIV rates in the United states. A lot of the Sex Education in our
country is based on fear and putting Sex and Sexuality as something that is not normal (Heather). Sex
Education in America is very important to teach the youth; with help from teachers and parents can
make the youth more aware about proper sex education and how to have safe sex, and learn healthy
relationship normalities.
There is a lot of controversy over teaching comprehensive sex education among people, some people
believe that teaching comprehensive sex education causes rates of teen pregnancy and STI/Aids rates
to go up. Just like we keep up with teaching the youth Math and Science, we also need to keep them
up to date on issues like Sex Education. This is important so the youth can be aware of these things
like STIs when they are adults and know how to protect themselves, and possibly others . There is no
evidence that teaching kids to use condoms causes a spike in sexual activity ( Comprehensive ). In
past surveys ninety percent of Americans over the age of eighteen felt sex education was very
important to include in public school curriculum.Comprehensive Sex education has been proven
statistically to be better than teaching abstinence only education. The population council declared that
Abstinence only programs are ineffective at preventing teen pregnancy and STI s.

Hewlett Packard just like Kerzner Office Equipment faced a severe financial crisis resulting massive
job cuts. The job cuts had a tremendous impact on employee morale where Hewlett Packard
established better communication with employees by adopting MBWA method. But Amber Briggs, the
human resource specialist did not establish a face to face interaction. Amber Briggs should have gone
to meet the assigned employees to build a network and cooperation with them. Thus, Amber Briggs
could have gained more support in the first meeting. Like Southwest Airlines, Kerzner s new CEO
Justin Tubbs wanted to build better relationship with employees. Unlike Kerzner, Southwest even
during tough external market maintained high integrity and cooperation with employees. Amber Brigs
like Southwest should adopt personal related currencies that can help others feel a sense of importance
and personal worth that will generate goodwill with team members.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Kerzner Office Equipment was faced with challenges and its ultimate success or failure
will be a result of the development and implementation of their solution. Companies in today s

49. `` Fun Home `` By Alison Bechdel
Alison Bechdel s comic book Fun Home is narrated by none other than herself who builds the
narrative around her family and her life growing up. Then, years later, her father dies in a car accident,
and despite not knowing if it was really an accident or a suicide, she occupies herself with finding a
justification for his death. Now imprisoned with the task she put herself to, the narrator blames her
father s shame and lack of happiness due to him being a homosexual, which she also discovered
herself being at the age of 19. The story touches on several themes including happiness, identity and
honesty. More specifically, Fun Home suggests that happiness is unattainable if one conforms to
society s norms by suppressing their true identity. This is demonstrated through the comparison made
with the character Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Bruce Bechdel, as
well as the narrator s depiction of herself.
Firstly, the comic draws a connection between Jay Gatsby and Bruce Bechdel to show that they are
both so occupied with maintaining a facade due to their lack of self acceptance, they live a fictional
life. When Jay Gatsby from F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is referenced by Bechdel, she
explains: I employ these allusions to James and Fitzgerald not only as descriptive devices, but because
my parents are most real to me in fictional terms. (27 panel 1). Bruce does not mention identifying
with the character but the parallels are

51. Japanese American Paranoia
In the early 1940 s and as the war progressed, the treatment and perception of Japanese Americans,
most of the western parts, like California, got progressively worse. The prejudice against the Japanese
steamed from the treatment of the Chinese in America and how they provided cheap labor for the
United States, cheating regular Americans out of their jobs. Once the Japanese started to have a
significant demographic in California, concern swept across Americans once again, fearing cheap
labor and lack of jobs once more. As tensions grew, the American paranoia of a Japanese
invasion/revolt also increased. Once the American government decided that they would relocate all of
