Narrows Bridge Failure
Executive Summary
The report debates the Tacoma narrows bridge failure and the different theories of how it came about,
using information about what type of bridge it is and the forces acting on it before and during the
collapse. It also discusses ways in which the failure could have been avoided, from changes in the
design to modifications to the bridge after its construction.
(Blaschke 2015)
Introduction
Tacoma Narrows Bridge was opened to the public on July 1st 1940 after being in construction for 2
years. The structure was built 5,939 foot long with a span of 2800 feet in order to bridge the gap
between Tacoma and Gig Harbour in the state of Washington, USA. It became known as Galloping
Gertie due to the fact that the bridge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tension in the suspenders transfers to the cables which run horizontally between the two far flung
anchorages, through which the tensional forces pass in to the ground and are dissipated. (Bagga 2014).
Compression is the force pressing a material and compacting it and acts on the towers of a suspension
bridge, this force is created from the weight of the towers and the load on the bridge. Compression
forces will also act on the surface of the bridge deck as when a load is applied it will have some
flexibility and bend, it will then travel up the cables, ropes or chains to transfer the compression forces
to the towers. The towers then dissipate the compression directly into the earth. (Bagga 2014).
Suspension bridges usually experience torsional forces during very windy conditions where there are
high wind speeds, this can create a twisting force causing the deck to rotate resulting in the bridge
experiencing shear stress. (Bagga

The Bickerstaff Paper
The Bickerstaff papers begins sometime in 1708, were an almanac, almanac at the time were arguably
the most popular forms of literature. What the almanacs did was predict future events by Astrologers,
usually the upcoming year. The Bickerstaff papers were, in my opinion, the most difficult to
comprehend and interepert. Nevertheless, after careful reading and obtaining background information
in lecture, we can begin to notice just how humorous it is. Isaac Bickerstaff was the alias of Jonathan
Swift. Swift being frustrated that Partridge s attacks upon the church, decided he would attempt to not
only mock but also discredit the Astrologer. Therefore, eventually forcing Partridge to no longer
publish his almanac. Furthermore, what makes these papers so amusing is the fact that Swift or
Bickerstaff, in this case, made an almanac of himself. Where he predicted the death of Partridge.
Predicting the exact time and place of his passing. The prediction was that Partridge would die at
exactly 11 p.m. on March 29th of that year. This prediction shocked most Londoners. As a result of the
fall out. Partridge immediately replied with his own almanac. Claiming Bickerstaff was spouting
nonsense and that the end of March would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to Partridge being enraged to no end. Thus he published another pamphlet, in which he
claimed that he was still among the living and that Bickerstaff was a liar. Bickerstaff responded calmly
that that Partridge was in fact dead, since no man on this earth could have possibly written such
erroneous predictions and claims that were present in his previous almanac. In addition, Bickerstaff
claimed that Partridge s own wife admitted that her husband had neither life nor soul , therefore he

The Master Services Agreement (MSA), standard of work (SOW), and SLA work together to outline
the business relationship, the work the vendor is being hired for, how performance will be measured,
and potential repercussions if the vendor is not able to provide a minimum level of service.

John Irving s Rip Van Winkle
Rip Van Winkle was inspired by German legends the general plot of the story was a man who

American Revolution when King George s ruling the colonies, Irving explains that Rip was a pretty

They were free to govern their own course of development, however some of them had their own
identity in this new country. During that time the new born America has no history and tradition while
Europe has a great one assembled for thousands of years. In order to solve this problem, Irving
borrows an old European story to make it take place in America. This story related to the Dutch
colonists. The quote On the other side he looked down into the deep mountain glen, wild, lonely, and
shagged, the bottom filled with fragments from the impending cliffs, and scarily lighted by the
reflected rays of the setting sun. (Norton Anthology American Literature, page 33). He describes the
mountains that will glow and light up like a crown of glory Rip Van Winkle only to show that America
has formed its own identity, no one can cut its connection with Europe. When America was still under
arbitrary of the British rule, some people still cannot cut the blood relationship with Europe.
Therefore, the American identity was unable to see by their relationship with Europe since then.
Rip wan Winkle was a great man. He would love to help people in the community. After being asleep

Detection Ratio Of Cyber Attack Detection
Improved the Detection Ratio of Cyber Attack Using Feature Reduction Based on Support Vector
Machine and Glowworm Optimization
Abstract The swarm intelligence plays vital role in feature reduction process in cyber attack detection.
The family of swarm intelligence gives bucket of algorithm for the processing of feature reduction
such as ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization and many more. In family of swarm new
algorithm is called glowworm optimization algorithm based on the concept of luciferin. The luciferin
collects the similar agent of glow and proceeds the minimum distance for the processing of lights.
Such concept used for the reduction of feature in cyber attack classification. The reduce attribute
classified by well know classifier is called support vector machine. The combination of support vector
machine and glowworm swarm optimization performs very well in compression of pervious feature
reduction technique. The proposed algorithm is implemented in MATLAB software, for the validation
of algorithm used KDDCUP99 dataset.

A New Dystopia By George Orwell
A New Dystopia
Who will reign supreme; Aldous Huxley or George Orwell? Ever since these two authors released
their dystopian novels over 50 years ago, both authors and avid fans have argued as to which dystopia
will take over our society. Will it be the brute force, boot and gun approach of Orwell s dystopia or the
all loving, drug accepting society that Huxley illustrates? If you take a closer look, a mix of both
dystopias is quite apparent in our society today; we are living in our own modern, advanced and
constantly developing dystopia. The topics discussed in these two novels cover a variety of subjects,
sex, drugs, freedom, religion and beliefs, and life in general. Both have their own idea of what
outcome these topics will take in their most dire form. In this paper I will be comparing and
contrasting their differences and then comparing them to our world today in an effort to see which
direction our society is headed.
The topic of sex in these two novels is depicted in very different ways. In 1984, sex and intimate
relationships are taboo. Big Brother thinks that a relationship with intimacy between two individuals
may cause them to unite together and could possible lead to the questioning of Big Brother, which is
unacceptable and potentially dangerous. On the opposite side of the spectrum, in Brave New World,
everyone is expected to engage with as many partners as possible. Also, that engaging with only one
partner a number of times is suspicious. In fact if you don

Explain Why It Is Wrong To Walk Away From Mortgage
I think that it is wrong to walk away from your mortgage if you are able to pay it.Many people
disagree with this. They feel as though it is completely ethical to walk way from a contract. They have
three main reasons as to why they feel this way. The first reason is that it makes financial sense in the
short term. They think it is financially wise in some cases to walk away from your mortgage. The
second reason is that banks account for this in their financial plans. So if banks account for people
walking away from their loans this somehow makes it ok to do that? The final reason is that the banks
participate in unethical endeavors so it makes it alright for the borrower to unethically walk away
from their loan. The first reason is partially

Self Identity Essay
There are numerous factors that either make up or restrain the self identity of a person or an
individual. Culture, in addition to family traditions, is one of the factors that affect the self identity of
an individual. When growing up, the environment around affect the personality, values, as well as,
beliefs of an individual. The environment includes friends, family members, and the people that affect
the life of an individual. So, if the environment is negative, then an individual will have low self
esteem. Moreover, as an individual grows up from being a child, they receive cultural values from the
family or the society around. There are questions raised on matters dealing with identity: Can an
individual choose his or her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The question is how do these issues affect self identity? It is certain that people could choose what to
do or wear, but what influenced these decisions? Scientific research has it that, beliefs, traits and
emotions can be factors inherited from parents through the DNA. The memory of an event
experienced by a grandparent could be passed through generations. This means that there exist certain
identity traits in the genes of an individual. Images of violence or shows that are less empowering
could have a certain negative amount of influence in self identity. A grown up also faces pressure from
family and community beliefs, which make them put on a different piece of identity from their own. A
theory known as the postmodern theory, explains that identity has become a mask put over an
individual, and not from within. The mask is created as a result of influence from external forces that
dictate what is right and what is wrong, or what is normal and accepted. The postmodern theory goes
ahead to stipulate that, as an individual, one creates a self identity through these external influences.
People do this so as to fit into the environment around them. In the United States, for example, there is
a tendency of consumer culture to influence the way most Americans think and make decisions.
Giddens has described that the lifestyle of an individual

Sarbanes-Oxley Act Analysis
Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002 With the fall of Enron, WorldCom, and several other major corporations in
the late 1990 s, the need for transparency and accountability in accounting was brought to the
forefront for investor s and board member s alike. Paul Sarbanes, a former senator from Maryland, and
Mike Oxley, a former member of the House of Representatives from Ohio, together created what is
now known as the most important legislation since the 1930 s (Litvak, 2014). This bill, also known as
the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act, changed the way companies that

Many venture capitalistic companies did not or financially could not comply with the new regulations
and requirements provided for in the act, so they took their companies to the private sector, no longer
offering shares on the public exchange (Ecer Kahlid, 2013). The main disadvantage to companies
regarding SOX is Section 404, the internal controls portion of the act. The major complaint the
requirements of section 404 are new, radical and ill considered (Gupta, Weirich, Turner, 2012). The
internal controls section requires companies to report on their internal control structure and procedures
for financial reporting through annual audits, which for small companies is very costly. However, in
2010, the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act allowed for the permanent
exemption of issuers with a market value of less than $75 million from the Section 404 of the SOX
negating this disadvantage, at least for these non accelerated firms. The additional time needed to
implement the requirements of SOX caused issues as well, impacting those small firms the hardest. In
addition, investors of foreign companies were not happy with the new regulations of SOX and an
estimated loss of five to ten percent of market capital occurred (Litvak,

Why I Learned The Piano
As a thirteen year old I could only watch game shows for so long, and that day I could not take
anymore. I couldn t sit still and needed to hear more than Steve Harvey and the Family Feud theme
song, so I wandered into her sitting room that always felt a little warmer than the rest of the house.
Sometimes I would sit on the couch by the window and feel the sun s heat hit my face and watch the
cars drive by. Sometimes I played with her giant record player, but vases covered it that day, so I went
to her old piano. Dust covered sheet music and instruction books filled the bench of the piano. I
flipped through them and found songs I knew, and I became determined. That day I decided I wanted
to learn the piano. Every day at the same time I would go in her sitting room and practice, and every
day she would listen and tell me how good a job I was doing. Some days she would even come play
with me. Every day of that summer looked exactly the same: sleep in the morning on the couch, have
lunch with my mom, and play piano in the afternoon. It did change on some days when my
grandmother would take me to the Baskin Robins down the street, and we d get ice cream, but I d
always practice when we got back. I convinced myself I would become a great pianist, but my left
hand never did anything. It never moved the same way my right hand did, but my grandmother never
said anything about it, she always encouraged me, no matter how bad my playing actually sounded.
I lost my drive for piano

Steinbeck enjoyed a comfortable life but opted to work with migrants on a farm. Here, his interest in
the socio economic aspects of life sparked, which later influenced his literary perspective. As an
outspoken democrat and advocate of blue collared America, his critics often argue that his works are

This struggle also heavily influenced his writing perspective in novels like of mice and of men and
Tortilla Flat. Steinbeck, with inspiration from marine biologist Ed Ricketts, dug himself out of the
great depression rut and wrote his first recognizable piece, the Log from The Sea of Cortez. In 1962,
Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize for literature for his realistic and imaginative writing, combining as it
does sympathetic humor and keen social perception. The selection was heavily criticized for Steinbeck
s political stance with some even calling it a win by default. At the end of his career, the famed author
returned to New York and died of heart disease in 1968. His work, however, lives on and even his
memory in the California hall of fame. The first piece that I will be analyzing is the critically

Powerful Women and Submissive Women in Njal s Saga and the...
Powerful Women V. Submissive Women by Sean Conolly
Ancient societies and their cultures traditionally provided women with no access to power. It was
nearly universal for women to be treated as subservient to men while being expected to behave mildly
and submissively. The New Testament makes no exception. The Apostle Paul explains that through
Christ, women are absolved of constraints that the social hierarchy imposes on them, but he later goes
on to explain that even in Christ a religious hierarchy still exists. By acknowledging that women are
inferior to men in both the social and religious circles, Paul presents women as subordinates. This
contrasts with Njal s Saga. Through the saga s characters Gunnhild, Hallgerd, and Bergthora, ... Show

to influence him. Her influence demonstrates her ability to assume and exercise a degree of power.
It is through her power that Gunnhild goes on to instigate a chain of events. After having Hrut as a
lover for several seasons, Gunnhild reasserts her power when Hrut asks to return to Iceland. Though
she lets him return, she sends a curse along with him. She says, If I have as much power over you as I

degree of dominance over Hrut is fulfilled. Because Hrut wants to please his wife but cannot, his
desires are unfulfilled. This suggests that Gunnhild s demands and desires are superior to those of

It would be beneficial for the president to meet with the founders of the movement, to discuss what

countries history of slavery is no secret. Although slavery was abolished decades prior, the mindsets of
those who lived during those times were stagnant. While they were freed from slavery, for long after,
African Americans were not privileged with the same freedom of white Americans. It is common

Motorcyclist And Automobile Drivers
All too often you hear reports of a fatality due to a motorcycle accident. It is a common scenario for
any accident attorney. Often, these fatalities are caused by negligent drivers, who have a variety of
excuses from the sun was in their eyes to the biker hit their blind spot. It is a never ending story and
one that is often, quite tragic.
As any motorcycle accident attorney will tell you, it is important, as drivers, that you are constantly
aware of your surroundings and the other vehicles that are on the roadways. These vehicles include the
sometimes hard to see, motorcycles. When drivers fail to know the other vehicles and their
whereabouts on the roadways, then the result can be a fatality.
Both the motorcyclist and the automobile drivers must practice responsibility on the road. For the
motorcyclist, taking simple measure such as wearing bright colors and driving defensively will help to
ensure their safety. For the automobile driver, the simple fact of following road rules, such as the three

Examples Of Id, Ego, And Superego In Mary Shelley s...
According to modern psychologists, Sigmund Freud is considered the father of modern psychology;
Freud s idea of the three zones of the psychic apparatus play a heavy influence in Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein. The three zones are Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is natural instincts, Ego is the
influence of the Id caused by society, and the Superego is acting based off of adopted morals taught to
you. The Monster s personality traits in Frankenstein are examples of Freud s idea of Id, Ego, and
Superego. Throughout the novel, each trait is developed with the Id being first ; and alternating back
and forth between all of them on which one becomes the dominant trait.
When the Monster is first created, he acts on natural instincts to keep himself alive. The Monster must
figure out life on his own because he does not have a parental figure to teach him right from wrong.
The Id instincts take over the Monster s actions I ate some berries...I slaked my thirst at the brook
(Shelley 87). He is predominantly motivated by his self centered id drives due to his natural instincts
of survival. The Monster has no idea that some of his actions are believed to be immoral by society
because his libidinous id is telling him what to do to survive such as to steal a part of their store in my
own consumption (94). Through his selfish actions the Monster realized that his actions had
repercussions I found that in doing this I inflicted pain on the cottagers (94) causing them to be hungry

Sex And The Machine
Sex and the Machine Manipulating Lust for Liberty with Robot Prostitutes Prostitutes are on the
margin of society. Often forced into sex work or using the under the table cash to feed a drug
addiction, the prostitution industry is incredibly dangerous and exposes women, men, and minors to a
variety of STIs and threatening situations. Women especially are expected to conform to specific
stereotypes by dressing, acting, and looking a certain part in order to attract a specific clientele. Often
times this leads to maltreatment by not just their clients, but greater society in general. However, a
solution may be in progress: in the future, human acting robotic prostitutes may be able to replace
human prostitutes partially or entirely. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ethical issues of robot sex workers revolve around the future of a major faction of society: sex
slaves. Sex slaves are women (usually) who are kidnapped and then forced to work as prostitutes.
Optimists may assume robots would be the messiahs for these impoverished women, allowing them to
be replaced by automatons. But until the market especially in countries with active sex tourism
industries is flush with these robots, sex slavery will endure, keeping these oppressed people in
destitution. While it may seem like a civic duty to rescue these persecuted individuals, replacement by
machine is not an easy answer. How will these pleasure bots influence the concept of the physical
form, specifically for women who already have to shirk harsh societal expectations for physical
appearance? Might these robots encourage guilt less cheating on spouses? These are some of the many
complex facets to consider, leading to the question that faces us today: do we attempt to phase out
human prostitutes with robotic replacements? There are four primary stakeholders whose involvement
in should shape the focus of this debate: sex slaves/human prostitutes, the clients of these persons, the
manufacturers of the robots, and lawmakers at all levels of government. Sex slaves and prostitutes are
the center of the issue. Naturally, the chief

Title: Relativities of Alkyl Halides in Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions
Introduction:
The purpose of this lab was to perform a comparison of relative reactivities of various alkyl halides

reaction equations). We used different substrates, which were primary, secondary, and tertiary. These
substrates included 2 bromobutane, 2 bromo 2 methylpropane, 1 bromobutane ∞ Bromotoluene,
bromobenzene, and I bromoadamantane. This lab helped discover what kind of mechanisms (either

Analysis Of Tabula Rasa By Robert Southey
What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice, and everything nice, that s what little girls, are made of.
What are little boys made of? Snips and snails, and puppy dog tails. That s what little boys are made
of . Author: English Poet Robert Southey (1774 1843).
Tabula rasa this is how the educationalist John Locke, (1632) believed children were born, with a
blank slate beginning their lives morally neutral. He also wrote that the little and almost insensible
impressions on our tender infancies have very important and lasting consequences. He argued that the
associations of ideas that one makes when young are more important than those made later because
they are the foundation of the self. Locke, (1632) also argued that because a baby s mind was so
malleable a parent could mould them with careful diligence. However Kohlberg (2004) was one of the
first theorists to address gender as a learned, cognitive concept. His thinking was influenced by Piaget,
who portrayed children as active learners who use interactions with their environment to construct an
understanding of the world around them (Piaget, 1961). Kohlberg believed that children s cognitive
understanding of gender influenced their behaviour (Kohlberg, 1981).
Walking into any new born infant s room you could almost certainly guess the gender of the baby just
from the colour of his or her clothes, blankets, and toys. Any infant surrounded by pink items is
virtually certain to be a girl, whereas a child

A bang on my door interrupts my quiet slumber and jolts my body into a sitting position. I rub my
blurry eyes and swing my legs over the side of my bed, trying to move forwards. My foot gets caught
in the fluffy blanket and I tumble to the ground. Gahh! My head hits my side table when I bolt into a

the bridge of my nose. Come downstairs and get dinner! My cousin s rough, irritable voice comes
through my door. I ll be down in a minute. My voice comes out quiet and hoarse, making it sound like
I need a large glass of water. I open my closet doors and scan over the contents before picking out a
pair of boots, a white, chunky sweater, a black scarf, and some thick jeans. With a click, my door
unlocks and swings open to reveal the bathroom door in front of me. The cold hardwood floor makes
my feet tingle whilst I cross into the even colder bathroom. Although the room is cold, I feel warm
inside with excitement while I change into my clothing and flash an indeterminate smile at the mirror.
A second click sounds when I open the door and head to the large kitchen. I almost make it without
any accidents only to break the streak by tripping on air and face planting into the maroon colored
wood. Mara, one of my two bratty kin, remarks, Can you not go 5 minutes without hurting yourself?

Targets of Satire in The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to...
Targets of Satire in The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy Douglas Adams satirizes many
targets in The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy. Adams came up with the idea for The
Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy in a drunken haze in Germany while he was lying in a field
with the stars spinning over him (Adams, Douglas 12) which explains the style of humor, and the
satire in the novel, which does not appear to make sense at first, but eventually does. Adams almost
forgot about his idea for the novel (Gaiman 7). The Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy
satirizes many targets, but especially government and religion. The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy

Contrary to that fact of radical atheism, however, the satire of religion is generally mild. For example,
God does exist, but His final message to the Universe is We apologize for the Inconvenience (Adams,
Ultimate Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, IV 665). However, other minor gods also exist, with Thor
being a recurrent character. Another particularly memorable moment is when Zarquon, a Jesus
surrogate character, returns to the Universe... a few seconds before the Universe ends (Galaxy, II 272),
demonstrating how Adams believes that even if religions are correct, that would not change much.
Finally, Adams satirizes religion very effectively with the in book device, the Hitchhiker s Guide to
the Galaxy Mk. II, which is a device which appears to be a bird, but has immense power. God indeed
exists in The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, but that s about the extent of His powers. His entire
involvement in the series is minimal. The opening words of one of the novels are In the beginning, the
Universe was created. This has made a lot of people angry and been widely regarded as a bad move
(Adams II, 176). So the first thing God does in the entire history of everything was a mistake, in
Adams s eyes. Next, when God sent Jesus, in the words of the novel, One man had been nailed to a
tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change (Adams I, 18). So, according to
Adams, God has almost no power to influence

destructive relationship with his parents has affected the relationship he has with himself. Alec has

Usb Drives And Usb Drive Data Transfer
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1. INTRODUCTION Portability and mobility of storage devices
like flash drives and USB devices are becoming so popular to carry and transport data on the go.
Unlike CD/DVD, hard drive, floppy disk or tape drive, a flash memory has no moving parts, so it
guarantees fast read/write speeds and more durable compared to other forms of storage media. Using a
flash drive/memory card to transfer a file typically uses a computer (e.g. laptop, pc, netbook or tablet)
to initialize mass storage communication which is not portable. Smartphone can exchange the data
through Bluetooth but can t act as host to USB drive to USB drive communication for data transfer.
The proposed system bridges the gap of USB drive to USB drive data transfer when a computer is not
present. Because of low prices of Smartphone almost everybody use smartphone so even Smartphone
can t act as host but it can acts as mediator and can be used as user interface to give operational
command for data transfer. Moreover, booting a computer just to transfer a file/s is ridiculous. In an
earlier research, an embedded system is used wherein a slave to slave flash drive transfer makes it
possible to transfer file/s using a programmable microcontroller with USB multi role embedded
host/peripheral controller and navigation control. This makes it possible to transfer data from a flash
drive to another flash drive with 100% data integrity using MD5 checksum algorithm. That research

The Power of Poetry Terence This is Stupid Stuff, by A.E. Housman compelling work of poetry that
addresses mainly the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry. Many sections in
this poem portray this theme, but one line that shows it best is the section in which Terence, the person
whose perspective the poem is being told through, explains that you need to read little bit of poetry so
you will be prepared when hard times come to you. Another section that portrays this theme of the
power of poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which Housman is talking about the
fact that, when you get drunk, the world seems great and you are happy, but the happiness is
temporary, but poetry helps you permanently. A third section that portrays this theme of the power of
poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which Terence is talking about King
Mithridates, and that he built up an immunity to the world s poisons by eating little bits of the poison
so when others tried to assassinate him, he was immune. Terence suggests that poetry can be like little
bits of poison, so when the bad times come, you will be ready. Terence This is Stupid Stuff, by A.E.
Housman is about the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry. One section that
portrays the theme of the power of poetry and why we should read poetry is the section in which
Terence explains that you need to read little bit of poetry so you will be prepared when hard times
come to you. Terence s friends ask him to read a poem, but when he reads a very sad poem, they point
out that he is fine, so he shouldn t read poetry. Terence responds by telling them that even if you aren t
sad, you should still read poetry because it will prepare you for times when you are sad or are in bad
times because you will be able to see what struggles people have been through and can relate to them.
This is shown in the quote, . This section shows that Housman thinks that people should read poetry

Because of American religious history there were several groups that came to the New World to make
their mark. The Puritans had a stronger influence on society both positive and negative. A. One of the
positive things taken place was the reform in the church on social, political, ethical, and theological
ideas. This brought about commitment of the gospel from each generations. The work of the Holy
Spirit displayed spiritual wisdom in the pulpits, the way the preacher preached and led the
congregation with his leadership role. This brought about a change in the way things were done, the
start of revival injected new ideas into the Christian faith. Another way was the movement of anti
slavery, this could bring freedom to Black America. Also, the religious freedom was incorporated in
the American society that all people could worship and serve God in their own ethics groups. After the
freedom of slavery, the blacks were able to work for themselves and work for others as free men.
Black preachers started their own churches and met every week for service. There were many changes

The Use Of Immunotherapy And Genetic Engineering
Organ transplants save thousands of lives each year and are one of the most significant medical
innovations of the past century. Despite that, each year, the number of patients on the waiting list
continues to grow, while the number of donors and transplants remains stagnant. One solution
scientists are investigating to solve this problem is xenotransplantation, a procedure which involves
the transplantation, implantation, or infusion of live cells, tissues, or organs from a non primate source
into a primate recipient (Samdani). This procedure has the potential to benefit thousands by providing
a treatment for a wide range of debilitating diseases and aiding in the transplantation process.
However, like any other surgical procedure, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only will xenotransplantation cure diseases, but will also serve as a source of organs and tissues
for transplant. Worldwide, very few human organs are available for transplantation, which results in
ailing patients waiting in vain for a suitable donor. According to UNOS, a non profit that manages the
nation s organ transplant system, more than 118,804 Americans are waiting for an organ transplant as
of January 2017 ( Data ). The increasing imbalance between the supply and demand for organs,
therefore opens the door to xenotransplantation as a solution. Xenografts could serve as an unlimited
supply of cells, tissues, and organs (Kleaner). Furthermore, xenotransplantation can also be used to
buy time while potential transplant patients wait for a suitable donor. Dr. Michler, surgeon in Chief at
Montefiore Medical Center, views xenotransplants as a bridge, buying time of months until [an organ]
is found (Tanne). According to Medscape, a web resource for physicians, most patients perceive
xenotransplantation as an acceptable bridge to transplantation of human organs in life threatening
situations (Samdani). Bridge transplants can ease the current shortage of organs until researchers find
a more permanent solution. It provides patients in dire situations an opportunity to keep holding on to
life. Xenotransplantation has proven advantageous in numerous disciplines of medicine.
Nevertheless, opponents of xenotransplantation such as the Campaign for Reasonable

Political Morality Essay
In Webster s dictionary, morality is defined as quot;principles
of right and wrong in conduct; ethics. quot; The principles of
morality have countless times evolved over the ages. In earlier
times, death was an easy penalty for many crimes. These crimes
today are considered minor and are penalized with a slap on the
hand. Is this considered wrong? Who is the correct authority to
consult on what is right or wrong? In today s society, two major
factors concern how the way members of society act and behave.
The first is our national government.

Many different religions have evolved all over the world and

Essay about The Physics of Car Collisions
Basic Concepts
Issac Newton was the first to state the concepts that are necessary to understanding the physics of
collisions. His three laws are used again and again in all the fields of physics:
Newton s 1st Law
In the absence of external forces, an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in
motion with a constant velocity.
This law can be best observed in space, far from the gravity of a star or planet, where there is no
friction or air resistance. If, in the middle of deep space, you give a rock a little push, it will continue
with the direction and velocity you gave it forever. The only way to stop it is to apply a force in the
opposite direction. This law is not intuitive because we are surrounded ... Show more content on

Every single action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you were standing in the middle of a
perfectly slick frozen lake, and needed to get off, you could throw an object away from you. When
you applied force to the object you threw, it also applied an equal force pushing you back. You would
travel in the opposite direction from the throw, although slower, because you probably have mass
more than the object you threw.
Static and Kinetic Friction
Friction is a key concept when you are attempting to understand car accidents. The force of friction is
a force that resists motion when two objects are in contact. If you look at the surfaces of all objects,
there are tiny bumps and ridges. Those microscopic peaks and valleys catch on one another when two
objects are moving past each other.
This explanation is a little simplified. There are other processes at work, including chemical bonding
and electrical interactions.
The level of friction that different materials exhibit is measured by the coefficient of friction. The
formula is µ = f / N, where µ is the coefficient of friction, f is the amount of force that resists motion,
and N is the normal force. Normal force is the force at which one surface is being pushed into another.
If a rock that weighs 50 newtons is lying on the ground, then the normal force is that 50 newtons of
force. The higher µ is, the more force resists motion if two objects are sliding past each other.
There are

A Study On The Tat
The TAT includes 30 cards, of which an assessor chooses a subset for a particular subject. The cards
feature various ambiguous scenes, most involving interpersonal situations. The subject is asked to tell
a story regarding the card, and the story may include an explanation of what is happening in the scene,
what events preceded the scene, what events may follow the scene and what the people in the scene
are thinking or feeling. The assessor uses the themes emerging from the stories produced by the
subject to infer personality characteristics about the subject.

The CAT s creators suggest a series of ten variables to consider when interpreting the results. These
variables include the story s major theme, the major character s needs, drives, anxieties, conflicts,
fears, and the child s conception of the external world.
Multiplicity of scoring systems One precaution required in general assessment of the TAT is the
absence of a normative scoring system for responses. The original scoring system devised in 1943 by
Henry Murray, one of the authors of the TAT, attempted to account for every variable that it measures.
Murray s scoring system is time consuming and unwieldy, and as a result has been little used by later
interpreters. Other scoring systems have since been introduced that focus on one or two specific
variables for example, hostility or depression. While these systems are more practical for clinical use,
they lack comprehensiveness. No single system presently used for scoring the TAT has achieved
widespread acceptance. The basic drawback of any scoring system in evaluating responses to the TAT
story cards is that information that is not relevant to that particular system is simply lost. Computer
scoring A recent subject of controversy in TAT interpretation concerns the use of computers to
evaluate responses. While computers were used initially only to score tests with simple yes/no
answers, they were soon applied to interpretation of projective measures. A computerized system for

Essay on Mortgage Crisis on Money Supply
Impact of the Mortgage Crisis on Money Supply in the US
AMESIA HARRIS

PROFESSOR CROSS
Impact of the Mortgage Crisis on Money Supply in the US This paper presents the effects of
expansionary monetary policy to macro economic variables in the economy. The United States of
America recorded a mortgage crisis since 2007. The financial sector issued out massive amounts of
money to individuals to acquire homes. This was in line with government campaigns for equitable
housing of US citizens in the United States. This led to an increase in loans offered to citizens to
purchase homes, leading to an expansionary monetary policy. Though this strategy brought equity in
home ownership, it also brought financial imbalance in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Inflation went up to 4% in 2007 and over 5% in 2008. However, the country tightened its monetary
policy in 2009 leading to a reduction in inflation though minimal (U.S Government, 2011). This has
also led to exportation of inflation and economic decline to other countries. Many countries rely on the
United States economy for financial donations and aid as well as markets for their goods and services.
The decline in economic performance in United States and the subsequent decline in its purchasing
power reduced the level of donations and loans to other countries. Markets for foreign goods in the
United States equally declined.
Foreign Exchange Rate and Money Supply With the mortgage crisis recorded in the United States, the
country s currency declined in value in respect to other world currencies. Increase in money supply led
to an increase in the volume of money in circulation in the United States. This led to a rise in prices of
goods. Because of this, the value of the dollar declined in the international money markets. The
decline in value of the dollar led to imports becoming very expensive. This further reduced the
country s production capability, leading to a further economic decline. A devalued currency makes a
country s exports cheaper than those of other countries. This has the potential of boosting the level of
exports in countries with devalued currency thus reducing their balance of

Agamemnon By Euripides Essay
Euripides was classic Athens. He is one of whose plays have long survived. Importantly, he was well
identified with theatrical innovation, which has profoundly influenced drama up to the modern times,
most especially in the representation of traditional, mythical heroes as the ordinary people in an
extraordinary circumstance. Apparently, was so unique among many writers of ancient Athens because
of his abundant sympathy that he demonstrated towards the victims of society, most especially being
women. Agamemnon, Orestes and Electra were the main characters in the plays. The play revolves
around the leader of Greek forces, Agamemnon, and his deadly decision to sacrifice his first daughter
Iphigenia, to preserve his honor by doing battle against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, Orestes killed two sons of Thestes and cut them into pieces, then served them at a banquet to
their father during an honor of his return (277). It was a horrible experience for Thyestes after
discovering what was prepared for his meal. He then went away from Argos with only his infant child
called Aegisthus after cursing both Orestes and his descendants. After the death of Orestes, the throne
was left under Agamemnon his son, who later married a daughter of Sparta s king. They bore three
children, of which one inherited his father s throne upon death. The remaining son of Orestes married
Helen, who became king of Sparta upon her father s death. Another seduction in the descendants of
Orestes occurs. Later after the wedding, Paris who was the son of Troy s king, seduced Helen then
took her away. A great force was organized to restore Helen to her husband. However, due to adverse
winds, they were unable to sail towards Troy. They appeased goddess Artemis to calm the winds by
sacrificing a young girl who arrived at the camp. They sailed to Troas but there was a lot of
justification of the murder of their mother by Orestes who was later afflicted with madness then goes
to become a spirit to hunt and punish murderers

Pros and Cons of Government Intervention Essay
Objective
This specific report addresses the pros and cons of how much government intervention in the
marketplace is necessary and appropriate. This report will cover four authors, Cunningham, Green,
Friedman and Pertschuk. The authors have written extensively on consumerism and the protection
thereof. This author s goal is to break down some of the theories, which authors seem akin in their
beliefs and which authors views are bipolar opposites. Green states there be only should be two types
of government regulations 1) economic regulations and 2) health and safety regulations. He states the
only important pieces of consumer legislation to emerge from Congress in the past three years were

Friedman views the consumer as strong and is totally interested in efficiency. He does note however
the FDA had done a good job of keeping us from harmful medication. The Cunningham s objective of
their research was to determine how many individuals in various sectors of society know about the
consumer protection laws and their rights as consumers. These were included, but not limited to false
advertising, false retail advertising, credit regulations, credit cards, labeling, truth in lending and
deceptive retail practices. These authors view the consumer relatively weak due to a lack of
knowledge. They also feel the low incomes are no match for the sophisticated marketer. There these
authors are interested in equity. The most important implication derives from the lack of information
demonstrated by all income segments of the consumer sample. This situation suggests that what is
needed is not more and tougher laws, but rather more information made available to ore individuals
concerning their rights as consumers. The present research has demonstrated that one other variable is
important: with the exception of a few areas of the law, both consumers and attorneys know very little
about their rights as consumers. This was particularly true in areas such as door door selling, false or
deceptive advertising, false or deceptive retail practices. More and better information concerning
consumers rights must be provided to individuals of all

Main Differences Between The Manufacturing Sector And The...
In the business world, there are two major sectors; the manufacturing sector and the service sector.
While they both deeply affect a society s standard of living, there are five main differences between
the two. According to The Business Dictionary,
(http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/manufacturing sector.html), the definition of
manufacturing sector are industries that are involved in chemical, mechanical or physical conversion
of substances, ingredients, or components into consumer or industrial goods. The service sector any
job or industry that produces intangible value or goods. The five main differences between service and
manufacturing organizations according to an article posted by (Linton, The Five Differences between

However, a manufacturing firm does not need to employ many people because most manufacturing
organizations can automate their production processes to reduce their labor requirements. The fifth
mentioned difference is location, service firms do not require a physical production site allowing them
to be located anywhere, an example would be Amazon, which spent most of it s forming years without
a standing office due to their ability to operate solely through the internet. Manufacturers on the other
hand must have a physical location for the production and stock holding operations. These differences
create a difference in their respective accounting books as based on reviewing different companies in
both sectors, companies in the manufacturing sector usually had much larger assets and overall higher
numbers in the four major financial statements. Reviewing specifically the cases of Wal Mart and
Marriott International, the international hotel chain, the tables below provide the differences between
the accounting practices and trends of the two sectors. Values in

Narrative Voice In Romeo And Juliet
Male characters who serve as a narrative voice often express their love and affection through an
enthusiastic response towards a female. In the song, Michelle , performed by Sir Paul McCartney, the
male narrative voice is proclaiming his love for a girl named Michelle through his words both in
French and English. Similarly, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William
Shakespeare, Romeo shows his enthusiasm upon catching sight of Juliet and expresses that he believes
that she is the most magnificent girl Romeo had ever met. Considering what both of these sources say
about how males reveal their emotions, it allows us to believe that when a man feels an intense
attraction towards a woman, they communicate their affection verbally ... Show more content on

1.5. 52 53). Romeo in the quote conveys his emotions about Juliet by mentioning verbally that, that
night was the first time he had seen true beauty and that no one can compare to Juliet. Likewise, in
Michelle, the narrator of the song sees the beauty of the woman he is discussing within the lyrics, and
acting upon this through words. The male narrator wants the woman he is talking to to know
something and expresses it by saying, I will say the only words I know that You ll understand
Michelle, ma belle Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble Tres bien ensemble . (Doc 1). The male
character s choice of words in this part of the song is essential because he is communicating that he
needs Michelle to understand that he is inspired by her beauty and has a desire for her. Moreover,
upon noticing Juliet, Romeo realizes that she is different from other girls that has met and done things
with. Romeo remarks about Juliet, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear! (1.5. 47). Until seeing
Juliet, Romeo had been used to using girls, but after laying eyes on her, he recognizes that she is worth

Bricklayer Lessons
One of the lessons that were taught in Seeking the Edge , The Bricklayer and The True Worth of an
Individual , which developed into my personal favorite, was the story about your Uncle Alfonse. He
chooses to keep an experienced bricklayer that did quality work instead of letting him go due to
financial reasons. Then Alfonse fired Tony, who did mediocre work but wanted a pay increase too.
This was interesting since companies make this mistake of trading quality products for mediocre
products just to save money. These types of stories make me think of Lionel Corporation in the late
1950s and into the late 1960s when they decided to save manufacturing costs and switched to
composite train sets but with low quality standards. If there are countless

Vladimir Lenin Essays
Vladimir Lenin and his Rise to Power
Eventually, empires and nations all collapse. The end can be brought about by many causes. Whether
through becoming too large for their own good, being ruled by a series of out of touch men, falling
behind technologically, having too many enemies, succumbing to civil war, or a combination: no
country is safe. The Russia of 1910 was in atremendously horrible situation. She had all of these
problems. Russia would not have existed by 1920 were it not for Vladimir Ilich Lenin, the only man
capable of saving the failing nation.
Russia in 1910 was a very backwards country. Peasants who lived in absolute poverty made up the
vast majority of Russia s population (Haney 19). Russia s version of ... Show more content on

He formed his own political party, the Bolsheviks, a split off of the earlier Marxists. Unlike other
parties of his time, Lenin limited membership to a small number of full time revolutionaries (Haney
41). This dedication and tight organization later proved both useful and effective. From 1897 to 1917,
he traveled all over Europe writing propaganda, organizing strikes, and encouraging revolution among
the working class, especially in Russia (Lenin, V.I. 191). Lenin knew what he wanted, knew how to
get it, and was willing to wait.
During World War I, the time was right and Lenin was the man. Czar Nicholas II remained totally
focused on winning the war, and did not hesitate before committing more men and supplies to the war
effort(Haney 65). But for an already starving country, every train that brought supplies to the front
could not also be bringing food to peasants. With public sentiment and even the Czar s own army
against him, Nicholas abdicated the throne in March of 1917 (69). A government by soviets (councils)
was instated, but did not last long. After that, Alexander Kerensky seized power. In November, Lenin
and his Bolsheviks, with help from armed citizens, stopped the revolving door. They took over St.
Petersburg (then Petrograd) and later captured Moscow, meeting little resistance along the way
(Jantzen 613). Lenin took over the government and signed a treaty with Germany to take Russia out of
the war. Immediately

Bartolome De Las Casas Just War Essay
During the conquest of the new world, the idea of varied culture was far from the minds of the
Spanish exploring the Americas . This lack of thought for other definitions of normal allows modern
readers to better understand the debate of the time: the moral obligations associated with subjugation
and conversion. Two Spanish theologians, Bartolomé de las Casas and Juan Gines de Sepulveda,
thought that their specific means for carrying out the tasks of evangelization and colonization were
superior to the other. Though no clear winner of the dispute over a just war was declared, their
argumentation continues to be discussed due to its relevancy. Sepulveda, a theologian who had never

He states that the displays of the Spanish to convert through war, and their later exploitation of cheap
labor, under the premise of saving the few innocents in harms way was not enough to call for war
against a peaceful people, many of whom would be lost in the process. De Las Casas passionate
argument utilized the same secular philosopher as Sepulveda. He claimed improper assumption of
barbarianism and natural law. De Las Casas strove to make connections between the actions of the
native peoples and rational logic, though it is interesting to see a secular argument used to support a
religious cause. For example, human sacrifice was utilized to show that not only were the natives
turned towards a higher power, but that they were willing to quite literally sacrifice the most precious
gift , human life, for their deity. Finally, de Las Casas argues that war is not just due to the fact that
until they accept the Catholic faith, their souls are outside of the papal jurisdiction. Thus, de Las Casas
emotional argument towards Sepulveda s points sheds light on the varying opinions of the time in

Mary Wollstonecraft Impact On Feminism
Mary Wollstonecraft was one of the earliest pioneers of feminism. Plagued by a series of misfortunate
events, she carried her lessons with her to her grave. Through Mary s education, career, and life
experiences, she proclaimed her radical ideas about education and marriage without shame and was
heralded by some as the first feminist.
Mary Wollstonecraft was born to her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Wollstonecraft, in London on
April 27, 1759. Though Edward could have chosen to stay with his father s successful business as a
silk merchant, he had determined to become a gentleman farmer. Mary moved quite frequently as a
child due to her father s desire, but gentleman farming proved to be a challenging task. Instead of
profiting, Mary s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fanny invited Mary to live with her but a year later, Mary once again had to leave a place she called
home to help a family member. This time, however, the occasion seemed joyous. Her sister Eliza had
given birth to a child. Unfortunately, all was not as it seemed when in January of 1784, Mary helped
Eliza leave her newborn baby and husband, hiding Eliza away until her marriage was legally annulled.
While Mary, Eliza, Fanny, and Everina were starting a girl s school in Newington Green, Eliza s baby
tragically passed away. Fanny left the school in 1785 and moved to Lisbon, Portugal with her
husband. Mary left England to assist Fanny in childbirth and despite her best efforts, her dear friend
passed away. Upon returning to England, she found the school she had started was in a financial hole.
Consequently, in 1786 Mary closed her school and instead moved to Ireland where she became a
governess for Lady Kingsborough s three daughters. When she resigned the following year, she
decided that she would earn her living as a writer. In 1787, Mary s first book, Thoughts on the
Education of Daughters: With Reflections on Female Conduct, In the More Important Duties of Life,
was published by Joseph Johnson. Mary started writing many articles and translating books into the
English language for her publisher s periodical, the Analytical Review in 1788. Between 1788 to
1790, she wrote several books including: Mary, a Fiction, inspired by the death of Fanny; Original

Lab Report On Insulin
Introduction
Insulin is a peptide hormone secreted by the β cells of the pancreas. It is secreted in response to
glucose and secretion occurs in a biphasic pattern. Insulin testing is commonly indicated in the
investigation of insulinomas, hypoglycaemia, diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, as well as a
number of other conditions. The analysis of insulin is often restricted by strict pre analytical
recommendations.
The Chemical Pathology Laboratory at Groote Schuur Hospital Laboratory receives blood samples
from a number of external hospitals and laboratories for insulin analysis. Not all samples can be
analysed immediately and some may not even be centrifuged before being transported under varying
conditions. Whether these samples are still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Narrows Bridge Failure Executive Summary The report debates the Tacoma narrows bridge failure and the different theories of how it came about, using information about what type of bridge it is and the forces acting on it before and during the collapse. It also discusses ways in which the failure could have been avoided, from changes in the design to modifications to the bridge after its construction. (Blaschke 2015) Introduction Tacoma Narrows Bridge was opened to the public on July 1st 1940 after being in construction for 2 years. The structure was built 5,939 foot long with a span of 2800 feet in order to bridge the gap between Tacoma and Gig Harbour in the state of Washington, USA. It became known as Galloping Gertie due to the fact that the bridge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tension in the suspenders transfers to the cables which run horizontally between the two far flung anchorages, through which the tensional forces pass in to the ground and are dissipated. (Bagga 2014). Compression is the force pressing a material and compacting it and acts on the towers of a suspension bridge, this force is created from the weight of the towers and the load on the bridge. Compression forces will also act on the surface of the bridge deck as when a load is applied it will have some flexibility and bend, it will then travel up the cables, ropes or chains to transfer the compression forces to the towers. The towers then dissipate the compression directly into the earth. (Bagga 2014). Suspension bridges usually experience torsional forces during very windy conditions where there are high wind speeds, this can create a twisting force causing the deck to rotate resulting in the bridge experiencing shear stress. • 3. The Bickerstaff Paper The Bickerstaff papers begins sometime in 1708, were an almanac, almanac at the time were arguably the most popular forms of literature. What the almanacs did was predict future events by Astrologers, usually the upcoming year. The Bickerstaff papers were, in my opinion, the most difficult to comprehend and interepert. Nevertheless, after careful reading and obtaining background information in lecture, we can begin to notice just how humorous it is. Isaac Bickerstaff was the alias of Jonathan Swift. Swift being frustrated that Partridge s attacks upon the church, decided he would attempt to not only mock but also discredit the Astrologer. Therefore, eventually forcing Partridge to no longer publish his almanac. Furthermore, what makes these papers so amusing is the fact that Swift or Bickerstaff, in this case, made an almanac of himself. Where he predicted the death of Partridge. Predicting the exact time and place of his passing. The prediction was that Partridge would die at exactly 11 p.m. on March 29th of that year. This prediction shocked most Londoners. As a result of the fall out. Partridge immediately replied with his own almanac. Claiming Bickerstaff was spouting nonsense and that the end of March would ... Detection Ratio Of Cyber Attack Detection Improved the Detection Ratio of Cyber Attack Using Feature Reduction Based on Support Vector Machine and Glowworm Optimization Abstract The swarm intelligence plays vital role in feature reduction process in cyber attack detection. The family of swarm intelligence gives bucket of algorithm for the processing of feature reduction such as ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization and many more. In family of swarm new algorithm is called glowworm optimization algorithm based on the concept of luciferin. The luciferin collects the similar agent of glow and proceeds the minimum distance for the processing of lights. Such concept used for the reduction of feature in cyber attack classification. The reduce attribute classified by well know classifier is called support vector machine. The combination of support vector machine and glowworm swarm optimization performs very well in compression of pervious feature reduction technique. The proposed algorithm is implemented in MATLAB software, for the validation of algorithm used KDDCUP99 dataset. Keywords Cyber Attack, Feature Reduction, GSO, SVM 1. • 7. A New Dystopia By George Orwell A New Dystopia Who will reign supreme; Aldous Huxley or George Orwell? Ever since these two authors released their dystopian novels over 50 years ago, both authors and avid fans have argued as to which dystopia will take over our society. Will it be the brute force, boot and gun approach of Orwell s dystopia or the all loving, drug accepting society that Huxley illustrates? If you take a closer look, a mix of both dystopias is quite apparent in our society today; we are living in our own modern, advanced and constantly developing dystopia. The topics discussed in these two novels cover a variety of subjects, sex, drugs, freedom, religion and beliefs, and life in general. Both have their own idea of what outcome these topics will take in their most dire form. In this paper I will be comparing and contrasting their differences and then comparing them to our world today in an effort to see which direction our society is headed. The topic of sex in these two novels is depicted in very different ways. In 1984, sex and intimate relationships are taboo. Big Brother thinks that a relationship with intimacy between two individuals may cause them to unite together and could possible lead to the questioning of Big Brother, which is unacceptable and potentially dangerous. On the opposite side of the spectrum, in Brave New World, everyone is expected to engage with as many partners as possible. Also, that engaging with only one partner a number of times is suspicious. • 8. Explain Why It Is Wrong To Walk Away From Mortgage I think that it is wrong to walk away from your mortgage if you are able to pay it.Many people disagree with this. They feel as though it is completely ethical to walk way from a contract. They have three main reasons as to why they feel this way. The first reason is that it makes financial sense in the short term. They think it is financially wise in some cases to walk away from your mortgage. The second reason is that banks account for this in their financial plans. So if banks account for people walking away from their loans this somehow makes it ok to do that? The final reason is that the banks participate in unethical endeavors so it makes it alright for the borrower to unethically walk away from their loan. The first reason is partially ... Culture, in addition to family traditions, is one of the factors that affect the self identity of an individual. When growing up, the environment around affect the personality, values, as well as, beliefs of an individual. The environment includes friends, family members, and the people that affect the life of an individual. So, if the environment is negative, then an individual will have low self esteem. Moreover, as an individual grows up from being a child, they receive cultural values from the family or the society around. There are questions raised on matters dealing with identity: Can an individual choose his or her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The question is how do these issues affect self identity? It is certain that people could choose what to do or wear, but what influenced these decisions? Scientific research has it that, beliefs, traits and emotions can be factors inherited from parents through the DNA. The memory of an event experienced by a grandparent could be passed through generations. This means that there exist certain identity traits in the genes of an individual. Images of violence or shows that are less empowering could have a certain negative amount of influence in self identity. A grown up also faces pressure from family and community beliefs, which make them put on a different piece of identity from their own. A theory known as the postmodern theory, explains that identity has become a mask put over an individual, and not from within. The mask is created as a result of influence from external forces that dictate what is right and what is wrong, or what is normal and accepted. The postmodern theory goes ahead to stipulate that, as an individual, one creates a self identity through these external influences. People do this so as to fit into the environment around them. In the United States, for example, there is a tendency of consumer culture to influence the way most Americans think and make decisions. Giddens has described that the lifestyle of an individual ... Paul Sarbanes, a former senator from Maryland, and Mike Oxley, a former member of the House of Representatives from Ohio, together created what is now known as the most important legislation since the 1930 s (Litvak, 2014). Many venture capitalistic companies did not or financially could not comply with the new regulations and requirements provided for in the act, so they took their companies to the private sector, no longer offering shares on the public exchange (Ecer Kahlid, 2013). The main disadvantage to companies regarding SOX is Section 404, the internal controls portion of the act. The major complaint the requirements of section 404 are new, radical and ill considered (Gupta, Weirich, Turner, 2012). The internal controls section requires companies to report on their internal control structure and procedures for financial reporting through annual audits, which for small companies is very costly. However, in 2010, the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act allowed for the permanent exemption of issuers with a market value of less than $75 million from the Section 404 of the SOX negating this disadvantage, at least for these non accelerated firms. The additional time needed to implement the requirements of SOX caused issues as well, impacting those small firms the hardest. • 14. Why I Learned The Piano As a thirteen year old I could only watch game shows for so long, and that day I could not take anymore. I couldn t sit still and needed to hear more than Steve Harvey and the Family Feud theme song, so I wandered into her sitting room that always felt a little warmer than the rest of the house. Sometimes I would sit on the couch by the window and feel the sun s heat hit my face and watch the cars drive by. Sometimes I played with her giant record player, but vases covered it that day, so I went to her old piano. Dust covered sheet music and instruction books filled the bench of the piano. I flipped through them and found songs I knew, and I became determined. That day I decided I wanted to learn the piano. Every day at the same time I would go in her sitting room and practice, and every day she would listen and tell me how good a job I was doing. Some days she would even come play with me. Every day of that summer looked exactly the same: sleep in the morning on the couch, have lunch with my mom, and play piano in the afternoon. It did change on some days when my grandmother would take me to the Baskin Robins down the street, and we d get ice cream, but I d always practice when we got back. I convinced myself I would become a great pianist, but my left hand never did anything. It never moved the same way my right hand did, but my grandmother never said anything about it, she always encouraged me, no matter how bad my playing actually sounded. I lost my drive for piano ... Jonelle Samai Evelyn Cartright Eng 210 John Steinbeck John Steinbeck was an American Nobel Prize winner whose work was viewed by many as controversial. Growing up in Salinas Valley California, Steinbeck enjoyed a comfortable life but opted to work with migrants on a farm. Here, his interest in the socio economic aspects of life sparked, which later influenced his literary perspective. As an outspoken democrat and advocate of blue collared America, his critics often argue that his works are biased and reflect inaccurate depictions of white collar America. Steinbeck, with inspiration from marine biologist Ed Ricketts, dug himself out of the great depression rut and wrote his first recognizable piece, the Log from The Sea of Cortez. In 1962, Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize for literature for his realistic and imaginative writing, combining as it does sympathetic humor and keen social perception. The selection was heavily criticized for Steinbeck s political stance with some even calling it a win by default. At the end of his career, the famed author returned to New York and died of heart disease in 1968. His work, however, lives on and even his memory in the California hall of fame. The first piece that I will be analyzing is the critically acclaimed, In Dubious Battle. Submissive Women by Sean Conolly Ancient societies and their cultures traditionally provided women with no access to power. It was nearly universal for women to be treated as subservient to men while being expected to behave mildly and submissively. The New Testament makes no exception. The Apostle Paul explains that through Christ, women are absolved of constraints that the social hierarchy imposes on them, but he later goes on to explain that even in Christ a religious hierarchy still exists. By acknowledging that women are inferior to men in both the social and religious circles, Paul presents women as subordinates. This contrasts with Njal s Saga. It is through her power that Gunnhild goes on to instigate a chain of events. After having Hrut as a lover for several seasons, Gunnhild reasserts her power when Hrut asks to return to Iceland. Though she lets him return, she sends a curse along with him. She says, If I have as much power over you as I think I have, then I cast this spell: you will not have sexual pleasure with the woman you plan to marry in Iceland, though you ll be able to have your will with other women. Neither of us comes out of this well, because you did not tell me the truth (Njal s Saga, 13). The curse she places on Hrut actually comes true (Njal s Saga, 16). Hrut cannot please his wife and Gunnhild s desire to hold a degree of dominance over Hrut is fulfilled. Because Hrut wants to please his wife but cannot, his desires are unfulfilled. This suggests that Gunnhild s demands and desires are superior to those of men. It is the demands and desires of a woman that instigate events. According to modern psychologists, Sigmund Freud is considered the father of modern psychology; Freud s idea of the three zones of the psychic apparatus play a heavy influence in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. The three zones are Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id is natural instincts, Ego is the influence of the Id caused by society, and the Superego is acting based off of adopted morals taught to you. Women especially are expected to conform to specific stereotypes by dressing, acting, and looking a certain part in order to attract a specific clientele. Optimists may assume robots would be the messiahs for these impoverished women, allowing them to be replaced by automatons. But until the market especially in countries with active sex tourism industries is flush with these robots, sex slavery will endure, keeping these oppressed people in destitution. While it may seem like a civic duty to rescue these persecuted individuals, replacement by machine is not an easy answer. Snips and snails, and puppy dog tails. That s what little boys are made of . Author: English Poet Robert Southey (1774 1843). Tabula rasa this is how the educationalist John Locke, (1632) believed children were born, with a blank slate beginning their lives morally neutral. He also wrote that the little and almost insensible impressions on our tender infancies have very important and lasting consequences. He argued that the associations of ideas that one makes when young are more important than those made later because they are the foundation of the self. Locke, (1632) also argued that because a baby s mind was so malleable a parent could mould them with careful diligence. However Kohlberg (2004) was one of the first theorists to address gender as a learned, cognitive concept. His thinking was influenced by Piaget, who portrayed children as active learners who use interactions with their environment to construct an understanding of the world around them (Piaget, 1961). Kohlberg believed that children s cognitive understanding of gender influenced their behaviour (Kohlberg, 1981). Walking into any new born infant s room you could almost certainly guess the gender of the baby just from the colour of his or her clothes, blankets, and toys. However, other minor gods also exist, with Thor being a recurrent character. Another particularly memorable moment is when Zarquon, a Jesus surrogate character, returns to the Universe... a few seconds before the Universe ends (Galaxy, II 272), demonstrating how Adams believes that even if religions are correct, that would not change much. Finally, Adams satirizes religion very effectively with the in book device, the Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy Mk. II, which is a device which appears to be a bird, but has immense power. God indeed exists in The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, but that s about the extent of His powers. His entire involvement in the series is minimal. INTRODUCTION Portability and mobility of storage devices like flash drives and USB devices are becoming so popular to carry and transport data on the go. Unlike CD/DVD, hard drive, floppy disk or tape drive, a flash memory has no moving parts, so it guarantees fast read/write speeds and more durable compared to other forms of storage media. Using a flash drive/memory card to transfer a file typically uses a computer (e.g. laptop, pc, netbook or tablet) to initialize mass storage communication which is not portable. Smartphone can exchange the data through Bluetooth but can t act as host to USB drive to USB drive communication for data transfer. The proposed system bridges the gap of USB drive to USB drive data transfer when a computer is not present. Because of low prices of Smartphone almost everybody use smartphone so even Smartphone can t act as host but it can acts as mediator and can be used as user interface to give operational command for data transfer. Moreover, booting a computer just to transfer a file/s is ridiculous. In an earlier research, an embedded system is used wherein a slave to slave flash drive transfer makes it possible to transfer file/s using a programmable microcontroller with USB multi role embedded host/peripheral controller and navigation control. He believed that this was a calling from God for him to lead the new religious experiment a covenant with God to built a model for mankind. quot;We shall be a city upon the hill. quot; declared Winthrop. Student who have the support from teammates and role models were more likely to graduate high school. • 38. Essay about The Physics of Car Collisions Basic Concepts Issac Newton was the first to state the concepts that are necessary to understanding the physics of collisions. His three laws are used again and again in all the fields of physics: Newton s 1st Law In the absence of external forces, an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion with a constant velocity. This law can be best observed in space, far from the gravity of a star or planet, where there is no friction or air resistance. If, in the middle of deep space, you give a rock a little push, it will continue with the direction and velocity you gave it forever. The only way to stop it is to apply a force in the opposite direction. This law is not intuitive because we are surrounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every single action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you were standing in the middle of a perfectly slick frozen lake, and needed to get off, you could throw an object away from you. When you applied force to the object you threw, it also applied an equal force pushing you back. You would travel in the opposite direction from the throw, although slower, because you probably have mass more than the object you threw. Static and Kinetic Friction Friction is a key concept when you are attempting to understand car accidents. The force of friction is a force that resists motion when two objects are in contact. If you look at the surfaces of all objects, there are tiny bumps and ridges. Those microscopic peaks and valleys catch on one another when two objects are moving past each other. This explanation is a little simplified. There are other processes at work, including chemical bonding and electrical interactions. The level of friction that different materials exhibit is measured by the coefficient of friction. The formula is µ = f / N, where µ is the coefficient of friction, f is the amount of force that resists motion, and N is the normal force. Normal force is the force at which one surface is being pushed into another. If a rock that weighs 50 newtons is lying on the ground, then the normal force is that 50 newtons of force. The higher µ is, the more force resists motion if two objects are sliding past each other. There are

When talking about religious language, evaluative means that it deals with morals and gives instructions. Religious language can be a sort of guide to how it s followers should live and the sermon I attended was exactly that. The purpose of this sermon was to teach the congregation how to deal with unrest in the mind. The theme of the series of sermons have been mental and emotional health. • 41. A Study On The Tat The TAT includes 30 cards, of which an assessor chooses a subset for a particular subject. The cards feature various ambiguous scenes, most involving interpersonal situations. The subject is asked to tell a story regarding the card, and the story may include an explanation of what is happening in the scene, what events preceded the scene, what events may follow the scene and what the people in the scene are thinking or feeling. The assessor uses the themes emerging from the stories produced by the subject to infer personality characteristics about the subject. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The CAT s creators suggest a series of ten variables to consider when interpreting the results. These variables include the story s major theme, the major character s needs, drives, anxieties, conflicts, fears, and the child s conception of the external world. Multiplicity of scoring systems One precaution required in general assessment of the TAT is the absence of a normative scoring system for responses. The original scoring system devised in 1943 by Henry Murray, one of the authors of the TAT, attempted to account for every variable that it measures. Murray s scoring system is time consuming and unwieldy, and as a result has been little used by later interpreters. Other scoring systems have since been introduced that focus on one or two specific variables for example, hostility or depression. While these systems are more practical for clinical use, they lack comprehensiveness. No single system presently used for scoring the TAT has achieved widespread acceptance. The basic drawback of any scoring system in evaluating responses to the TAT story cards is that information that is not relevant to that particular system is simply lost. Computer scoring A recent subject of controversy in TAT interpretation concerns the use of computers to evaluate responses. While computers were used initially only to score tests with simple yes/no answers, they were soon applied to interpretation of projective measures. The United States of America recorded a mortgage crisis since 2007. The financial sector issued out massive amounts of money to individuals to acquire homes. However, the country tightened its monetary policy in 2009 leading to a reduction in inflation though minimal (U.S Government, 2011). This has also led to exportation of inflation and economic decline to other countries. Many countries rely on the United States economy for financial donations and aid as well as markets for their goods and services. The decline in economic performance in United States and the subsequent decline in its purchasing power reduced the level of donations and loans to other countries. Markets for foreign goods in the United States equally declined. Foreign Exchange Rate and Money Supply With the mortgage crisis recorded in the United States, the country s currency declined in value in respect to other world currencies. Increase in money supply led to an increase in the volume of money in circulation in the United States. This led to a rise in prices of goods. Because of this, the value of the dollar declined in the international money markets. The decline in value of the dollar led to imports becoming very expensive. This further reduced the country s production capability, leading to a further economic decline. A devalued currency makes a country s exports cheaper than those of other countries. De Las Casas strove to make connections between the actions of the native peoples and rational logic, though it is interesting to see a secular argument used to support a religious cause. For example, human sacrifice was utilized to show that not only were the natives turned towards a higher power, but that they were willing to quite literally sacrifice the most precious gift , human life, for their deity.
