Krispy Kreme
Road to Success

Leadership
Mr. Groff

Vernon Carver Rudolph was born in Marshall County, Kentucky. He was the oldest of four children
born from his parents Plumie and Rethie Rudolph. His siblings included Lewis
Rudolph, who would help found Krispy Kreme.
When he graduated high school, he went to Paducah, Kentucky with his uncle. In 1933,
Rudolph s uncle bought a doughnut shop and recipe for yeast raised donuts from a federal employee
named Joe LeBeau. This all occurred during the middle of the Great Depression, so they moved to
Nashville, Tennessee to see if they could get better business there and secure their financial future.

On April 5, 2000, they went public on the NASDAQ at $21 using the ticker symbol
KREM. In February 2004, the company had sales of $665.6 million and profits of $94.7 million from
almost 400 stores.
On February 19, 2007, Krispy Kreme started selling the Whole Wheat Glazed doughnut to appeal to
the health conscious. The doughnut has 20 Calories in the US fewer than the original glazed and
contains more fiber (2 grams vs. 0.5 grams). In January 2008, the trans fat content of all Krispy Kreme
doughnuts was reduced to 0.5 of a gram or less. The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration, allows companies to round down to 0 g in its nutrition facts label even if the food
contains as much as 0.5 of a gram per serving. Krispy Kreme benefited from this regulatory rule in its
advertising campaign, touting its doughnuts as trans fat free and having 0 grams trans fat. The first
Krispy Kreme store to open outside North America was in Penrith, Australia, in
Sydney. Since it was successful they opened 53 other stores around the country. There are also

Analysis For Vitamin C
Analysis for Vitamin C
Introduction Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid C6H8O6, is important because the body uses it in
order to grow and repair tissues.1 Humans are unable synthesize vitamin C, therefore it is essential to
consume the recommended daily amount around 60 mg/day.2 The goals of this lab were to determine
the amount of vitamin C in a sample of apple juice. Also, another objective was to gain experience
with redox reactions and titrations. A titration is a method of analysis that determines the precise
endpoint of a reaction and therefore the precise quantity of reactant in the titration flask .3 Titrations
are important because they provide accurate information on how to find the unknown concentration of
a solution. Consequently, it is crucial that titration techniques are precise so the information is
accurate. The information is calculated using the chemical formula.
+I2 →+2 HI Ascorbic acid Dehydro L ascorbic acid
Experimental
The first step in calculating the amount, in mg, of vitamin C in the unknown sample was determining
the amount of iodine needed to react with the solution using titration. Once the volume of iodine
needed to react was found, the next step was to determine the molarity of the Iodine. In order to do
this, the moles of ascorbic acid was needed. It was found by multiplying the mass of ascorbic acid
used by its molar mass. The moles of ascorbic acid is the same as the moles of Iodine because of the

Case Study Kassatly Chtaura
Q2:Various considerations Kassatly Chtaura management should consider in business expansion
decisions, and its implications of suggested strategy.
There are several factors needs to be considered in business expansion of Kassatly Chtaura
management. Company had started more than 20 year back and it stood in bad and good times in
Lebanon. Even though there was political and civil unrest, management strongly believed that it lasts
only few days and business has to continue and grow. Although business has profit and brand
reputation from its operations from Lebanon, civil war and political instability as affected its business.
Also the consumer market for RTD and beverage sector is not the high. So considering about business
expansion to Saudi Arabia or Angola who exports products from Kassatly Chtaura was in management
s mind.
Business expansion consideration and its strategy implications
Factors such as the costs, social situation understanding the culture, competition, labor force, rules and
regulations, targeted audience, availability of labor force etc needs to be considered in business
expansion plans. Company has already factory setup in Lebanon and all products are exported from
Lebanon. Problem mainly lies in the region instability to do business operations at times cause ...

My Hero s Journey Of A Hero Essay
At a young age and even today we all have a hero; it can range from a character in movies to video
games even into literature. Throughout my life I have never been one to enjoy reading or watching
movies, my daily activity was playing video games meaning all the heroes to me where inside a video
game. Growing up playing numberless different videos games you get a taste at such a diverse variety
of worlds, story line, environments, and even items. That being, I have come to learn about quite a bit
of characters and some have really stood out in being extra heroic in their actions or just being cooler
than the other; Master Chief (Halo), Mario (Super Mario Bros.), and Link (Legend of Zelda). John
117, better known as Master Chief, is my favorite hero but more importantly a serious dutiful soldier
you want to have on your side when a bloodcurdling alien fleet comes trying to take over your planet.

Beginning from humble origins, Link is bestowed onto the path of the hero s journey, embracing his
destiny to fight back against the evils that threaten his land. Wielding the Master Sword, Link uses his
blade to battle against the evil Ganondorf and an assortment of threatening monsters. I think what
makes Link one of the most iconic heroes is his companionship, during his journeys he can t help but
go out of his way to help those in need, especially Princess Zelda. Compassion is Link s biggest
strength. By caring for those he is trying to save, he has an extra motivation to save them. If courage
should fail, Link s compassion gives him an extra life for his continued struggle. Link is known for his
courage to fight anybody who puts harm to the people he cares about but what makes him great is the
extent he goes to for the people he truly

Synthesis Of Selective Attention
Attention is the behavioural and cognitive process of selectively concentrating on one aspect of the

attention is focusing on a particular object for a particular amount of time. Once doing that you are

show the participants a video on YouTube of a man holding up pieces of paper with different words on
them. The man would keep changing the pieces of paper and on most of the pieces of paper there were
exclamation marks on them. The Aim of the video was to count how many exclamation marks were
on the pieces of paper. Participants had to focus on counting the exclamation marks throughout the
video. Whilst different objects were moving or appearing in background. There were three different
ages that participated in the experiment with 16 of them being 18, 11 being 17 and 1 being 16. These
participants were all given the same questions and watched the same video. After the participants
watched the video they were all given a questionnaire to fill out. They were asked multiple questions

Inequality in Latin America Essay
Although Latin America has faced many social, political, and economic issues within the last three
centuries, inequality remains one of the most important, historical, and omnipresent aspects of the
region s culture. As Europeans took over Latin America during the time of colonization, they
implemented many elitist social structures that have held strong and are evident today (Harris).
Income inequality is the most visible and greatest disparity that the region faces; yet inequality
between gender, ethnicities, and education remain strong and significant problems with a necessity for
improvement. Inequality of wealth and disparity of power and influence are Latin American s greatest
curses and are at the root of many of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only few Europeans came over to colonize, but their human capital, technology, wealth, and legal and
economic institutions made it effortless to take control. Spain emerged as the leader in colonizing the
New World and implemented encomiendas, aiding certain elites and giving little to the rest of the
population. The Catholic Church, fueling Spain and Portugal s exclusive ownership of land, led to
social mobility and acquisition of titles. Led by elites, the Church had favorable settler condition and
acquired land in order to gain immense wealth and express their position of elitism (Harris). The
prompt initial land inequality fostered concentrated political power as well. Elites controlled the
governments in order to protect their interests and diminish all possibilities of shifts of power to the
lower classes (De Ferranti). After many countries in Latin America received their independence,
limited change of conditions occurred and the elite maintained control in the new republics. The basis
for economic inequality remained the same and the patterns persisted. In the early 19th century, the
majority of countries had developed republican democracies yet the upper class still had the power to
act in their own interests. A direct bearing established the extent of the elite s ability to influence the
formation of government policies. Landowners opposed any institutional change that could transfer

Baking Soda Experiment
Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar
Introduction:
A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3) and
vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of
reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to see
how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot the
farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be equal to
the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the amount of
baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot.
Materials:
Paper towel
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Film canister
Goggles (eye protection)
Measuring tools
Methods:
1. Measure and cut 9 pieces of paper towel 10cm x 12cm
2. Put 10mL vinegar in film canister
3. Measure baking soda, place in paper towel and fold it up
4. Put paper towel in canister and snap the lid on
5. Shake and point forward

Application Of Free Space Optics
Introduction
Free Space Optics is an advance technology used to transmit data from one point to another using light
a medium. This technology has emerged in 1960 s and has been advanced day by day. This has
become the advanced and mostly used because of the data rates and the bandwidths provided by this
type of communication. This is now mostly used for connecting different LANs and also used in
satellite communication. There are many wireless technologies like Bluetooth, infrared and many
others but this technology has the capability of replacing all those technologies. This FSO
communication is mostly used because of its security reasons.
Fiber optical link communication has been the best kind of transmission in this era however this FSO
communication additionally supplanted this fiber optic communication in numerous territories. As this
is a remote innovation, it has the favorable circumstances when contrasted with wired advances. As
we have an advancement of innovations like RF Wireless transmission over the wireless
transmissions, electrical sign transmission over copper and coaxial links, light transmission over
optical fiber links and now this Free Space Optics technology has advanced. This optical system has
the capacity of convey the voice, feature and information over light flags. As the technology included
in optical fiber is comparative yet in that kind of communication, optical strands are utilized and the
methodology of Total Internal Reflection (TIR) is

The Hierarchy Of Structure And Agency
There is a constant debate about the primacy of structure or agency in forming human behavior in the
social science. Carlsnaes (as cited in Hay, 1995) claimed that the problem of structure and agency is ...
the central problem of social and political theory . Radically, the agency structure problem is an
ontological problem which is related to the nature of structures, agents and their correlations (Wight,
2003). There are four influential positions in the structure agency debate: structuralism,
intentionalism, structuration theory and critical realism (Hay, 1995). In his book, structuralism
emphasizes the dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure centered
approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship between
structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in explaining behavior. It is an
agency centered approach that regards structures as the product of intentional acts. Structuration
theory presents a developed attempt to transcend the dualism in which structure and agency are
connected externally. It argues for the duality of structure . Critical realism is based on a dialectical
cognizance of structure and agency, striving to overcome the dualism of the two. It links to strategic
relational approach . This essay will argue that structure and agency is a dialectical unity of
relationship, and they entail and affect each other. In exceptional circumstances, they can be

The Left Hand Of Darkness Feminist Essay
Science fiction plays an important part in feminism texts. According toTom Moylan(1986) science
fiction can serve as a playground for feminist considerations and criticism of gender, sexuality, social
roles and oppression, reproduction, patriarchy, and much more(p.30). Le Guin agrees with this
definition and states that pulling back from reality in order to see it better, is perhaps the essential
gesture of science fiction. Butler (2004) has the similar idea that fantasy is what allows us to imagine
ourselves and others otherwise (p.28). Two science fiction feminist texts The Left Hand of Darkness

The leading character Simone de Beauvoir initiated one is not born but rather becomes a woman .
Based on the reading of de Beauvoir, Butler further argues a new concept that gender subsumes sex
which indicates that biological sex is also socially constructed . Butler(1986) forms her new idea that
becomes a woman is a process of constructing ourselves and it is a purpositive and apropiative set of
acts, the acquisition of a skill . For Butler (1990), women can never be and gender is never a noun but
a set of free floating attributes. Hence, gender is proved to be performative(p.18 24). Her idea co
relates with Nietzsche s view of gender that there is no gender identity behind the expression of
gender; that identity is performatively constituted by the expression of one s gender(Butler, 1990, p.24
25). It seems to Butler that de Beauvoir defines gender ambiguously because she misses the
performative character of gender. Butler claims that people need to understand the term woman as the
site of permanent openness and resignifiability , which is different from de Beauvoir s view that
women are subjects in

Quotes From Mount Of Olives
Mount of Olives. Jesus states, You will all fall away... for it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and

is the shepard, in his time of need, all of his disciples will leave, especially Peter who will disown him
three times (Shreibman). However, Luke is very literal and anti semitic and ignores or unknowingly
misses this quote because he may think it is an insignificant detail. By saying these lines it is also
praising Judas for his hard decision because he is only one. This gives the picture that Jesus death was

The newfound gospel challenges one of the most firmly rooted beliefs in Christian tradition. It
completely changes the understanding of God, the world, Christ not to mention of Judas himself and
the other disciple. Judas is the only one who is able to make the ultimate sacrifice. All three gospels
have quotes that contradicts Jesus willingness to die, but there was also a lot of quotes that supported
this. Not to dissuade anybody who is Christian but every gospel can be accepted while maintaining a
degree of scepticism about it truth due to some inconsistencies. There are also parts that may be
consistent with the actual historical Jesus would have said. Reading the three synoptic gospels have
been enlightening. I have never read it before and found the whole story to be interesting. What

Judas was evil. I also wonder how do Christians feel about this new

Biochemistry Competence 208.5.1: DNA,RNA
Nicole Seegmiller Mott
Western Governors University
Abstract
This a brief written report on the role of DNA, RNA and transmission on information within a cell to
create amino acids.
Biochemistry Competence 208.5.1: DNA,RNA
DNA replication is an intricate process that requires many different proteins. Each protein preforms a
very specific function in the creation of a new DNA strand. First helicase works by unwinding or
dividing the original double helix into single stands. The point where the DNA is separated by the
helicase is known as the replication fork. Single strand binding proteins attach to the newly made
single strand of DNA to prevent re annealing. Next is the addition of an RNA ... Show more content

First adenosine monophosphate (AMP), a covalent enzyme, must be formed and linked to a lysine
enzyme. Next AMP will transfer to the 5 phosphate end of the missing section between the Okazaki
fragments. Last OH will help remove the AMP sealing the phosphate backbone together producing a
continuous DNA strand ( DNA Ligase, n.d.). A visual representation of ligase joining two Okazaki
fragments can be viewed in Figure 2.
Transcription is the formation of an RNA strand from a DNA template within the nucleus of a cell.
There are four nucleotides of DNA. These are adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine. These
nucleotides are transcribed to form messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) consisting of nucleotides
made of adenine, cytosine, guanine and uracil. This transcription from DNA to mRNA happens by an
RNA polymerase II. This newly created mRNA is read in the 5 to 3 direction in sets of 3. These sets
are called codons. Each mRNA also has a cap and end. On the 5 prime side is a methylated guanine
triphosphate and on the 3 prime is a poly A tail. Messenger RNA then moves to the cells cytoplasm
and through the cells ribosomes for translation. Messenger RNA is matched to molecules of transfer
RNA (tRNA) in the ribosomes to create amino acids. These amino acids subsequently form an amino
acid chain. (Osuri, 2003) A visual representation of this can been viewed in figure 3.
As was just learned, RNA polymerase II is what transcribes DNA.

I believe that the impact generated by this element towards the entertainment industry is significant,
principally in music. As people may have witnessed, the music industry has been a direct victim of the
digital era and piracy, leaving many questions about what might happen and forcing industry experts,
labels, artists and entrepreneurs to re think their marketing strategies and re invent themselves. As a
result, Streaming services like Pandora, Apple ITunes Match or Spotify came to the world as several
options for music consumption, yet I believe they are artist unfriendly, especially for emerging acts.
When a user wants to subscribe into any of these services, they are required to enter their credit card

Dances With Wolves Essay
Dances With Wolves
No matter how you choose to categorize human beings, whether by race or religion, nationality or
gender, the resultant categories will display at least one immutable constant. Each group, no matter
how diverse their beliefs or how dissimilar their behaviors, will contain men of honest and peaceful
natures as well as men of divisive and violent natures. In the film Dances With Wolves, we are
exposed to two distinct categories of people inhabiting post civil war America, the white man and the
Native American. We, most likely, begin the movie with defined ideas as to which group contains
honest, peaceful men and which group contains violent and savage men. We are, however, exposed to
behaviors which are in opposition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, compassionate, thinking white men are definitely in the minority in this film.
When John begins his Westward move, the crude, maniacal white man makes his reappearance. The
officer who gives John the information about getting to his new post appears to be downright insane
and apparently kills himself. The guide who accompanies John to his post is also no prize. John refers
to him as the foulest man alive (Dances with Wolves). This constant exposure to the violent and crude
men who make up the white race is an effective first step in shifting our sympathies. We want to
distance ourselves from these shameful characters. We don t want to identify with them.
Our first exposure to Indians is a mere suggestion of the expected stereotype. We are shown a skeleton
on the ground with an arrow stuck through it. So far so good. We are accustomed to that image.
Dunbar s guide states that Indians are nothin but thieves and beggars and that you only want to see
them when they are dead (Dances with Wolves). He, of course, is such an exemplary man that it s not
ironic at all to hear him degrading someone else.
From the beginning of the film we are given hints that Dunbar is not like his fellow ugly Americans.
When John and his guide arrive at the deserted Fort, the guide is in a hurry to be away. He is nervous
and uncomfortable and thinks nothing of leaving without accomplishing what he was sent to do.

very specific destination for most of the customers who are interested in these products. On the other
hand, this property proves to some extent as the challenge facing the organization in many ways. The
fact that they principally specialize in the production of a specific product results into the situation
whereby they are seen to be discriminative with their production. The products offered by the
company are mainly meant for men while the other categories of customers are left with very little or
nothing to enjoy from the organization. The decision to stick with only a portion of the market has
also resulted into the situation whereby the company s market and potential buyers are restricted to
within a very narrow domain. Being discriminative on the number or category of the consumers

has in more than one occasion provided the company s competitors with advantages over it. Those
organizations that are actively involved in the production of wide varieties

Homeschooling Is More Appropriate For Today’S Student Due
Homeschooling is more appropriate for today s student due to the increase in bullying, peer and social
pressures due to fitting in, overcrowded classrooms, and too much government regulations.
Homeschooling offers more real life, hands on field trip type experiences, and more personal
instruction. Unfortunately, bullying, peer pressure, and overcrowded classrooms for both student and
teachers are in every school no matter if it is a public school, private, or charter school.
Bullying is one of the top reasons parents choose to homeschool their children. A study was done by
Dorothy Espelage (2016) that found Students who reported increases in bullying also reported a

Crowded classroom conditions not only make it difficult for students to concentrate on their lessons,
but inevitably limit the number of time teachers can spend on innovative teaching methods such as
cooperative learning or group work or, indeed on teaching anything beyond the barest minimum of
required material (Burnett, Rivera Batiz, Marti 1995 p. 1). Students will disrupt the teaching
atmosphere because they just don t want to learn or just don t understand what is being taught. So,
what better way to not learn when the teacher can t teach. There are some schools out there that
Students find themselves trying to learn while jammed into spaces never intended as a classroom, such
as libraries, gymnasiums, laboratories, lunchrooms, and even closets (Burnett, Rivera Batiz, Marti

exchange students, or just plain out economy growth do to jobs coming into the state. All of this will
lead to overcrowding of the school systems.
Unfortunately, all of this will lead up to low grade point average and poor grades on the national test

Analysis of Jack Johnson s Cookie Jar Jack Johnson s song, Cookie Jar is a powerful influence to
challenge the beliefs and values of western society. The song is all about blaming what you have done

do to try to stop things like children playing with guns, because the repetition makes the listeners hear
it more then once and therefore the will absorb it more and remember it , so they can turn it around.
Jack Johnson is writing about how children are influenced by what they see on TV. In this song the
boy watches violent shows that have people shooting each other with guns, the child now sees guns as
something you are able to use on people and kills another child. Sure I pulled the trigger but it needed
to be done, Cause life s been killing me ever since it begun this means that even the boy is blaming his
misdeeds on life, this challenges the beliefs of society because the boy is saying life is bad now, and
there isn t much good in life. TV has a large influence upon children and there shouldn t be shows
with guns and violence on at a time when children might be watching TV. The second stanza also
makes listeners argue whether or not parents are doing their job by actually being a parent and looking

Delegating Application Essay
Delegating is a personality trait that comes in handy when cooperating with others. Consequently, by
holding this trait, it is clear to understand that a few tasks require additional opinions than just one in
order to be executed. In addition, it is also used while problem solving, at times when it is required to
be open minded with everyone s points of views. As I grow up, I aspire to maintain the characteristic
of being a delegator, as well as maintain a balance throughout the responsibilities that I take. On the
other hand, there are a variety of people prefer to not keep their tasks organized, working with these
people can be almost impossible to succeed with, and can lead to calamities. This assignment was
possibly my most difficult to complete, not due to the task itself, but by cause of it being a month long
project that was to be completed by three people, which I ended up doing myself. The day that I was

Executioner In Brave New World
The Servant Executioner
Omar N. Bradley once said, If we continue to develop our technology without wisdom or prudence,
our servant may prove to be our executioner ( Technology Quotes. ). Bradley denotes that without
caution and knowledge of what mankind technologically creates, mankind could fall into an abusive
relationship and struggle to live with said technology. He further implies it could end mankind as a
whole and that it could be mankind s executioner. Aldous Huxley in Brave New World, shows readers
a world that depicts how accurate Omar Bradley really is. Humans have not physically died or been
killed by technology in Brave New World, but it has caused the systematic death of their personal
liberties. In Aldous Huxley s novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows that a government would not be ready to handle the power of said technologies if they were
to advance at the rate that they had been. These technologies would give power to the government to
control and oppress their people in an abusive manner. The twentieth century has seen so many
scientific ideas appropriated by governmental bureaucracies for human and environmentally
destructive purposes... (Baker Dangers of Consumerism 82). Huxley predicts this very event in his
novel through technological conditioning, advances in eugenics, and mass production of drugs. In his
satirical depiction of the society in Brave New World, he wants readers to take away that technology,
when allowed to grow rampantly, oppresses the people that created it. This parallels to modern
societies much like governments who fund experiments to create human life from within a laboratory
within the need for human intervention. Another key parallel to modern society was the degradation of
personal freedoms. Most notably freedom of thought and human rights through the government s
oppressive rule, seen in many totalitarian government systems such as North Korea. Universal themes
seen in the novel that all readers can identify with include that wisdom and prudence are necessary in

Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The Essay
Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The I Function
The so called I function which describes the brain s sense of self takes on interesting connotations
when discussing phantom limbs and associated phantom pain. The loss of an arm or leg through
amputation is not an easy experience to endure, and is even more difficult when the patient begins to
feel sensations in their now missing limb. These feelings, sometimes referred to as stump
hallucination , is the subjective sensation, not arising from an external stimulus, that an amputated
limb is still present (1). Although they no longer exist, patients perceive these limbs as still being
essential components of their body image, and continues to move in sync with their torso and other ...

Since there is no visual feedback, initiating motor intention does not activate proprioreceptors (4).
Over time, phantom limbs are deemed by the amputee to be overflexed, which causes a cramping
pain. The question that arises is, if the inconsistency between the intention of the brain and the
perception of the body s actions was to be resolved, could the phantom pain also be eliminated?
Several theories have been developed over the years that have attempted to answer this question, most
notably by Ronald Melzack and Vilayanur Ramachandran.
The earliest hypothesis regarding the cause of phantom limbs and pain was that of neuromas. These
were thought to be nodules comprised of remaining nerves located at the end of the stump. These
neuromas presumably continued to generate impulses that traveled up the spinal cord to portions of
the thalamus and somatosensory domains of the cortex. As a result, treatment involved cutting the
nerves just above the neuroma in an attempt to interrupt signaling at each somatosensory level (5).
This and other related theories were deemed unsatisfactory because of the fact the phantom pain
always returned, indicating that there was a more complex reason.
Psychologist Ronald Melzack developed the concept of the neuromatrix and the neurosignature. This
idea held that the brain contained a neuromatrix or a network of neurons that analyzed the sensory
information and allowed the perception of

Enzymes
Enzymes in detergent
1) What enzymes are used to make this product?
There are essentially six main enzymes involved in detergent, specifically amylases, proteases, lipases,
pectinases, cellulases, and mannanases. Each of these enzymes are responsible for targeting stains
containing specific macromolecules like carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids.
2) What type of reactions do the enzymes catalyze, and why is this of value?
Amylases are typically responsible for catalysing the breakdown of starches which can be of value in
removing the stains of foods such as cereals, pastas, and gravies. The enzyme hydrolyses the bonds
within the starch molecule which decomposes it into dextrins and other oligosaccharides, which are
soluble and can easily be removed in the wash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the source of two types of proteases are Bacillus alcalophilus and Bacillus lentus. The
most common sources of amylases are the bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, and
Bacillus licheniformis. On the other hand, lipases are currently being sourced from yeast, bacteria,
fungus, and from mammals. Biotex is the main source of cellulases, and have been in use since 1987.
4) Have the enzymes been modified for the process?
One example of enzyme modification for its use in detergents are cellulases. This enzyme which is
used to maintain the quality and brightness of clothing can be chemically modified to have a greater
stability when used in an alkaline medium. This is done by exposing the cellulases to certain reagents
like malcic anhydride. Another example of a modified enzyme would be the alkaline protease, which
replaced the endogenous protease. This enzyme was derived from an alkalophilic strain of bacteria
called Bacillus cereus, and is currently being used due to its stability at higher water temperatures.

Clinical Decision Support System Analysis
A computer program that several doctors and hospitals are now using to manage patient care is a
clinical decision support system (CDSS). These programs theoretically will compile the patient s
medical history, access the long term treatments, and help in the diagnosis process with the
information accumulated from multiple areas within the program. The four main functions of the
program are administrative, managing clinical complexity and details, cost control and decision
support. The systems have been created for time management, to retain more precise records and to
assist in the diagnosis process for physicians. This allows for consistent and standardized care.
Multiple inquiries and apprehensions arise with the use of a CDSS program. The computer program

Ever wondered what the short and long term effects on street racing were? Street racing has more risks
and consequences than you would think. Many consequences range from a simple ticket to an accident

drag strips so people can go race legally, and the city can make some money. Street racing can have
many consequences, long term or short term for either the people you love, the people who love you,
or even just you. Although most people never get caught and never will, the consequences can prove
to be quite fatal. Many people who do get caught for racing face major fines, and sometimes they will

Mig Welding
What is MIG Welding?
Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, also sometimes called Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a process
that was developed in the 1940s for welding aluminum and other non ferrous metals. MIG welding is
an automatic or semi automatic process in which a wire connected to a source of direct current acts as
an electrode to join two pieces of metal as it is continuously passed through a welding gun. A flow of
an inert gas, originally argon, is also passed through the welding gun at the same time as the wire
electrode. This inert gas acts as a shield, keeping airborne contaminants away from the weld zone.
Advantages and Disadvantages of MIG Welding
The primary advantage of MIG welding is that it allows metal to be welded much more ... Show more

 The necessity for the inert gas shield means that MIG welding cannot be used in an open area where
the wind would blow away the gas shield.
Since its development in the middle of the 20th century, MIG welding has become commonplace in
many manufacturing operations. For example, it is commonly used in the automobile industry because
of its ability to produce clean welds, and the fact that it welds metals quickly.
What is TIG Welding?
Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is the process of blending together reactive metals such as
magnesium and aluminum. The TIG welding method became popular and useful in the early 1940s
and, as a result, has greatly propelled the use of aluminum for welding and structural processes. TIG
welding is commonly used for both high quality and manual welding.
During the process of TIG welding, an arc is formed between a pointed tungsten electrode and the area
to be welded. As a result of the gas shield, a clean weld is formed. This prevents oxidization from
occurring.
The type of gas shielding typically used for TIG welding is argon, helium, or a combination of both.
When combined, these two gases can ensure a higher welding speed and welding penetration. Argon is
the preference of most welders when it comes to TIG welding. It is often used simply because it is
heavier than air and provides better coverage when welding.
With TIG welding, one can perform a variety of

Blackberry Picking
Weaving Maturity and Innocence Together; an Analysis of Blackberry Picking As people grow into
adulthood, they experience a loss of innocence, a series of events that leads them to see the world in a
different, darker lens. Seamus Heaney s 1999 poem Blackberry Picking explores this idea. This poem
uses mature diction combined with a childish rhyme scheme of AABB to explain how the sweetness
of one s youth becomes soured when they experience reality and how this process is inevitable in
tainting their past. As the reader analyzes this poem they immediately recognize the seemingly out of
place mature language used in a poem about berry picking. The text uses words such as thickened
wine and lust for. These are very adult phrases and topics used to describe a childhood memory, which
helps show that when one loses their innocence, their recollections are permanently changed. Another
way the mature diction is used is a contrast to the childlike story that is being told in the poem. This
extreme contrast is important because it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

simply, ending with rhymes such as clot/knot and sun/ripen. Yet, as the poem continues the rhyme
schemes become muddled and lost, which is shown through rhymes like pots/boots and sour/fair. The
rhymes don t fit with the beginning of the poem, similarly how the mature language doesn t fit into the

My Teaching Style And Classroom Discipline Methods
When I first looked over this assignment I must say I was very excited to take both of these tests to

my teaching style inventory were all very close and are as follows: Expert 3, Formal authority 3.75,
Personal Model 3.5, Facilitator 4.5, and Delegator 3.375. In an ideal world, I would like to think that I
teach using all of these personalities at different times. However, while my scores are all fairly close,
there is one that stands out from the others; facilitator. To be a facilitator means to be the leader, or
coordinator, of a group s activities or discussions. To me this teaching style sounds exactly like the
role of a typical teacher, especially for younger students. While students are young (let s say
elementary aged), their teacher leads and coordinates most if not all of their activities and class
discussions every day. As students grow older (middle school and high school), they are given a little
more independence as far as how they learn and the topics in their classroom discussions. A facilitator
leads, but does not dictate. This is a very important point because it is important for a teacher to lead
and to model for students, but not to tell how to, or decide for the students the one and only right or
wrong way to do or think about something. A facilitator gets the group prepared and started on a task,
and the group then proceeds to carry out the

why lawyers exist. The law is very complex, so rather than forcing someone to go to law school for

know law enough to successfully defend himself or herself in court. I know that the law code is
extensive. It would take a very long time to get through it even if you read constantly. II. Why am I

wrote about 1800 poems but only a few dozen of them were published during her life time. The
situation that went on in her life caused her to become very reclusive but nobody really knew what
was going on. Emily s poems was about her feelings and thoughts that she always had and she dealt

Jefferson City Comparison
Every town or city in the world is unique in its own way. They have defining factors that set them
apart from one another. These factors include poverty, population, sex, unemployment, and many
other features. These specific aspects are all apart of demography; the scientific study of population,
composition, and factors such as health, race, ethnicity, income, and more. Demography varies greatly
by location and by comparing two places, such as Jefferson City and St. Louis, Missouri, one can see
the variation of these features and how they influence health and overall life quality. You will see that
St. Louis and Jefferson City, although both located in Missouri, are two very different cities. Jefferson
City in located right in central Missouri.

The Tale Of Frankenstein By Mary Shelley
Although humans have the tendency to set idealistic goals to better future generations, often the
results can prove disastrous, even deadly. The tale of Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, focuses on the
outcome of one man s idealistic motives and desires of dabbling with nature, which result in the
creation of horrific creature. Victor Frankenstein was not doomed to failure from his initial desire to
overstep the natural bounds of human knowledge. Rather, it was his poor parenting of his progeny that
lead to his creation s thirst for the vindication of his unjust life. In his idealism, Victor is blinded, and
so the creation accuses him for delivering him into a world where he could not ever be entirely
received by the people who inhabit it. Not only failing to foresee his faulty idealism, nearing the end
of the tale, he embarks upon a final journey, consciously choosing to pursue his creation in vengeance,
while admitting he himself that it may result in his own doom. The creation of an unloved being and
the quest for the elixir of life holds Victor Frankenstein more accountable for his own death than the
creation himself.
Delivered into the world, full grown and without a guardian to teach him the ways of the human
world, the creation discovers that he is alone, but not without resource. He attempts to communicate to
his creator; however, he is incapable of speech. As Frankenstein recounts the situation, he says, I
beheld the wretch the miserable monster whom I had created.

The Birth Of Event Study Method
The birth of Event study method is frequently traced back to 1969, the first time Fama, Fisher, Jensen
and Roll (1969, hereafter FFJR) introduced how event study method examines the impact of stock
split on share price. Nowadays, the methods of payment on Mergers and Acquisitions can be analyzed
by event study. Asquith(1983) argue that the previous studies, Dodd(1980) and Langetieg (1978), did
not examine the possible changes in value and the market s complete reaction during the merger
process, and did not resolved the question whether the target firm s stockholders gain averagely from
merger. He point out that Langetieg (1978) just focus on the merger date as the event date, thus ignore
the stock markets response in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the announcement date, the market is uncertain whether the merger bid will be successful or not,
the market reaction change in different situation at the merger date. Which are significantly positive
excess returns for the successful target firms and significantly negative excess returns for the
unsuccessful target firms. In addition, the data also shows that the changes in the interim period
depends on the new information. The cumulative excess return rises from the announcement date until
the merger date for the successful target firms. But for the unsuccessful target firms, the cumulative
excess return increases at the announcement date but decrease after that and keep decreasing until the
failure was confirmed. Asquith(1983) found that the stockholder gains and the successful merger bid
are linked. And most of the gains from a merger go to the acquired firm s stockholders, while the
stockholders of the successful bidding firms earn little from the merger bid. 1. Motivation About the
motivation of M A, there are a range of hypothesis, observation data and empirical evidence, which
were postulated in the reason decades. Dodd (1977) analyze the effects of tender offers on
stockholders wealth and provide a number of alternative hypotheses according to empirical

Mediator As Impartial Third Parties
Mediators serve as impartial third parties who help settle disputes between people. Their role is to aid
in communication between parties seeking a resolution in some matter. To accomplish this, mediators
must build credibility with the parties involved in the dispute and must garner confidence in their
abilities from those with whom they are working. They are able to achieve this when they demonstrate
the expertise necessary to manage the process of communication between the parties and help each
understand the other s position and goals. Mediators gain this proficiency by understanding the
complexities that cause conflict. In system level conflict, matters become exacerbated by the number
of participants and issues involved. In order to effectively help resolve system level conflict, mediators
must understand the individual parts, and how they are interrelated and operating, in order to best
serve the collective unit. Royce Kellogg certainly is culpable for the mess in which he finds himself
while Susan Barlow also shares in that responsibility. Neither the client nor the consultant fully
understood the effort and level of involvement they needed to provide in order to achieve their goals
for this merger. They find themselves in this state because neither have done their part to accomplish
what needs to be done. Kellogg had the responsibility to take a leadership role in this transition, yet he
seems to have chosen to ignore that fact. He failed to delineate his

Artifacts In Peru
Just imagine, there is nothing left to look at. Scientists have taken every artifact to research, disturbed
those who lost their lives, and destroyed our Earth. Is this how you want to find out more about
history? That s why scientists should keep artifacts where they found them. Instances where Peru has
felt incomplete without artifacts, destruction of the RMS Titanic, and places in Iraq are being ruined
from archeological sites are just a few examples of the harmful effects archeologists have put on
humankind. For several years, Peru has always been against Yale(in Connecticut) keeping their
ancient artifacts in a country where they can t see it, and appreciate their history. According to The

He was the oldest of four children born from his parents Plumie and Rethie Rudolph. His siblings included Lewis Rudolph, who would help found Krispy Kreme. When he graduated high school, he went to Paducah, Kentucky with his uncle. In 1933, Rudolph s uncle bought a doughnut shop and recipe for yeast raised donuts from a federal employee named Joe LeBeau. This all occurred during the middle of the Great Depression, so they moved to Nashville, Tennessee to see if they could get better business there and secure their financial future. On February 19, 2007, Krispy Kreme started selling the Whole Wheat Glazed doughnut to appeal to the health conscious. The doughnut has 20 Calories in the US fewer than the original glazed and contains more fiber (2 grams vs. 0.5 grams). In January 2008, the trans fat content of all Krispy Kreme doughnuts was reduced to 0.5 of a gram or less. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, allows companies to round down to 0 g in its nutrition facts label even if the food contains as much as 0.5 of a gram per serving. Krispy Kreme benefited from this regulatory rule in its advertising campaign, touting its doughnuts as trans fat free and having 0 grams trans fat. Analysis For Vitamin C Analysis for Vitamin C Introduction Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid C6H8O6, is important because the body uses it in order to grow and repair tissues.1 Humans are unable synthesize vitamin C, therefore it is essential to consume the recommended daily amount around 60 mg/day.2 The goals of this lab were to determine the amount of vitamin C in a sample of apple juice. Also, another objective was to gain experience with redox reactions and titrations. A titration is a method of analysis that determines the precise endpoint of a reaction and therefore the precise quantity of reactant in the titration flask .3 Titrations are important because they provide accurate information on how to find the unknown concentration of a solution. Consequently, it is crucial that titration techniques are precise so the information is accurate. The information is calculated using the chemical formula. +I2 →+2 HI Ascorbic acid Dehydro L ascorbic acid Experimental The first step in calculating the amount, in mg, of vitamin C in the unknown sample was determining the amount of iodine needed to react with the solution using titration. Once the volume of iodine needed to react was found, the next step was to determine the molarity of the Iodine. In order to do this, the moles of ascorbic acid was needed. It was found by multiplying the mass of ascorbic acid used by its molar mass. The moles of ascorbic acid is the same as the moles of Iodine because of the one to one mole ... Growing up playing numberless different videos games you get a taste at such a diverse variety of worlds, story line, environments, and even items. That being, I have come to learn about quite a bit of characters and some have really stood out in being extra heroic in their actions or just being cooler than the other; Master Chief (Halo), Mario (Super Mario Bros.), and Link (Legend of Zelda). Only few Europeans came over to colonize, but their human capital, technology, wealth, and legal and economic institutions made it effortless to take control. Spain emerged as the leader in colonizing the New World and implemented encomiendas, aiding certain elites and giving little to the rest of the population. The Catholic Church, fueling Spain and Portugal s exclusive ownership of land, led to social mobility and acquisition of titles. Led by elites, the Church had favorable settler condition and acquired land in order to gain immense wealth and express their position of elitism (Harris). The prompt initial land inequality fostered concentrated political power as well. Elites controlled the governments in order to protect their interests and diminish all possibilities of shifts of power to the lower classes (De Ferranti). After many countries in Latin America received their independence, limited change of conditions occurred and the elite maintained control in the new republics. The basis for economic inequality remained the same and the patterns persisted. In the early 19th century, the majority of countries had developed republican democracies yet the upper class still had the power to act in their own interests. • 8. Baking Soda Experiment Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar Introduction: A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3) and vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to see how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot the farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be equal to the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the amount of baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot. • 11. The Hierarchy Of Structure And Agency There is a constant debate about the primacy of structure or agency in forming human behavior in the social science. Carlsnaes (as cited in Hay, 1995) claimed that the problem of structure and agency is ... the central problem of social and political theory . Radically, the agency structure problem is an ontological problem which is related to the nature of structures, agents and their correlations (Wight, 2003). There are four influential positions in the structure agency debate: structuralism, intentionalism, structuration theory and critical realism (Hay, 1995). In his book, structuralism emphasizes the dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure centered approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship between structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in explaining behavior. It is an agency centered approach that regards structures as the product of intentional acts. Structuration theory presents a developed attempt to transcend the dualism in which structure and agency are connected externally. It argues for the duality of structure . Critical realism is based on a dialectical cognizance of structure and agency, striving to overcome the dualism of the two. It links to strategic relational approach . This essay will argue that structure and agency is a dialectical unity of relationship, and they entail and affect each other. In exceptional circumstances, they can be ... Each protein preforms a very specific function in the creation of a new DNA strand. First helicase works by unwinding or dividing the original double helix into single stands. A visual representation of ligase joining two Okazaki fragments can be viewed in Figure 2. Transcription is the formation of an RNA strand from a DNA template within the nucleus of a cell. There are four nucleotides of DNA. These are adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine. These nucleotides are transcribed to form messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) consisting of nucleotides made of adenine, cytosine, guanine and uracil. This transcription from DNA to mRNA happens by an RNA polymerase II. This newly created mRNA is read in the 5 to 3 direction in sets of 3. These sets are called codons. Each mRNA also has a cap and end. On the 5 prime side is a methylated guanine triphosphate and on the 3 prime is a poly A tail. Messenger RNA then moves to the cells cytoplasm and through the cells ribosomes for translation. Messenger RNA is matched to molecules of transfer RNA (tRNA) in the ribosomes to create amino acids. These amino acids subsequently form an amino acid chain. (Osuri, 2003) A visual representation of this can been viewed in figure 3. As was just learned, RNA polymerase II is what transcribes DNA. ... Bradley once said, If we continue to develop our technology without wisdom or prudence, our servant may prove to be our executioner ( Technology Quotes. ). He further implies it could end mankind as a whole and that it could be mankind s executioner. These technologies would give power to the government to control and oppress their people in an abusive manner. Huxley predicts this very event in his novel through technological conditioning, advances in eugenics, and mass production of drugs. In his satirical depiction of the society in Brave New World, he wants readers to take away that technology, when allowed to grow rampantly, oppresses the people that created it. This parallels to modern societies much like governments who fund experiments to create human life from within a laboratory within the need for human intervention. Another key parallel to modern society was the degradation of personal freedoms. Most notably freedom of thought and human rights through the government s oppressive rule, seen in many totalitarian government systems such as North Korea. Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The Essay Phantom Limbs, Phantom Pain, And The I Function The so called I function which describes the brain s sense of self takes on interesting connotations when discussing phantom limbs and associated phantom pain. The loss of an arm or leg through amputation is not an easy experience to endure, and is even more difficult when the patient begins to feel sensations in their now missing limb. These feelings, sometimes referred to as stump hallucination , is the subjective sensation, not arising from an external stimulus, that an amputated limb is still present (1). Although they no longer exist, patients perceive these limbs as still being essential components of their body image, and continues to move in sync with their torso and other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since there is no visual feedback, initiating motor intention does not activate proprioreceptors (4). Over time, phantom limbs are deemed by the amputee to be overflexed, which causes a cramping pain. The question that arises is, if the inconsistency between the intention of the brain and the perception of the body s actions was to be resolved, could the phantom pain also be eliminated? Several theories have been developed over the years that have attempted to answer this question, most notably by Ronald Melzack and Vilayanur Ramachandran. The earliest hypothesis regarding the cause of phantom limbs and pain was that of neuromas. These were thought to be nodules comprised of remaining nerves located at the end of the stump. These neuromas presumably continued to generate impulses that traveled up the spinal cord to portions of the thalamus and somatosensory domains of the cortex. As a result, treatment involved cutting the nerves just above the neuroma in an attempt to interrupt signaling at each somatosensory level (5). This and other related theories were deemed unsatisfactory because of the fact the phantom pain always returned, indicating that there was a more complex reason. Psychologist Ronald Melzack developed the concept of the neuromatrix and the neurosignature. This idea held that the brain contained a neuromatrix or a network of neurons that analyzed the sensory information and allowed the perception of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are essentially six main enzymes involved in detergent, specifically amylases, proteases, lipases, pectinases, cellulases, and mannanases. Each of these enzymes are responsible for targeting stains containing specific macromolecules like carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. 2) What type of reactions do the enzymes catalyze, and why is this of value? Amylases are typically responsible for catalysing the breakdown of starches which can be of value in removing the stains of foods such as cereals, pastas, and gravies. The enzyme hydrolyses the bonds within the starch molecule which decomposes it into dextrins and other oligosaccharides, which are soluble and can easily be removed in the wash. ... Biotex is the main source of cellulases, and have been in use since 1987. 4) Have the enzymes been modified for the process? One example of enzyme modification for its use in detergents are cellulases. This enzyme which is used to maintain the quality and brightness of clothing can be chemically modified to have a greater stability when used in an alkaline medium. This is done by exposing the cellulases to certain reagents like malcic anhydride. Another example of a modified enzyme would be the alkaline protease, which replaced the endogenous protease. Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, also sometimes called Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a process that was developed in the 1940s for welding aluminum and other non ferrous metals. MIG welding is an automatic or semi automatic process in which a wire connected to a source of direct current acts as an electrode to join two pieces of metal as it is continuously passed through a welding gun. A flow of an inert gas, originally argon, is also passed through the welding gun at the same time as the wire electrode. This inert gas acts as a shield, keeping airborne contaminants away from the weld zone. Since its development in the middle of the 20th century, MIG welding has become commonplace in many manufacturing operations. For example, it is commonly used in the automobile industry because of its ability to produce clean welds, and the fact that it welds metals quickly. What is TIG Welding? Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is the process of blending together reactive metals such as magnesium and aluminum. The TIG welding method became popular and useful in the early 1940s and, as a result, has greatly propelled the use of aluminum for welding and structural processes. TIG welding is commonly used for both high quality and manual welding. During the process of TIG welding, an arc is formed between a pointed tungsten electrode and the area to be welded. As a result of the gas shield, a clean weld is formed. This prevents oxidization from occurring. The type of gas shielding typically used for TIG welding is argon, helium, or a combination of both. When combined, these two gases can ensure a higher welding speed and welding penetration. Argon is the preference of most welders when it comes to TIG welding. It is often used simply because it is heavier than air and provides better coverage when welding. With TIG welding, one can perform a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In an ideal world, I would like to think that I teach using all of these personalities at different times. To be a facilitator means to be the leader, or coordinator, of a group s activities or discussions. To me this teaching style sounds exactly like the role of a typical teacher, especially for younger students. While students are young (let s say elementary aged), their teacher leads and coordinates most if not all of their activities and class discussions every day. As students grow older (middle school and high school), they are given a little more independence as far as how they learn and the topics in their classroom discussions. A facilitator leads, but does not dictate. This is a very important point because it is important for a teacher to lead and to model for students, but not to tell how to, or decide for the students the one and only right or wrong way to do or think about something. Their role is to aid in communication between parties seeking a resolution in some matter. They are able to achieve this when they demonstrate the expertise necessary to manage the process of communication between the parties and help each understand the other s position and goals.
