Behavioural Economics Public Policy

Behavioural Economics is extensively being used to inform and develop policy interventions.
Behavioral economics brings insights from psychology and other social sciences into economic
models. Behavioural insights are also used for economic models of decision making. A key feature of
behavioural economics is its empirical approach. There is a growing scope of the contribution of
behavioural economics to the design and improvement of tax policy. Many behavioural economic
ideas have helped develop the traditional economic choice framework, in which people are assumed to
make rational, self interested and consistent choices. But that is not always the case behavioural
models suggests often different assumptions which make the predictions of the model align more
closely to observed outcomes and which explains the pattern of behavioural not easily ... Show more

The first is based on behavioural economics and nudging, the second is from cognitive social
psychology covering tax perspectives, morals, fairness and the role of social norms and the third is co
determination between government and consumer.
A good example of behavioural economics is the prospect theory in which it is demonstrated that most
of the people are risk averse for gains and risk seeking for equivalent losses.
The second insight discusses that taxpayers have positive attitude towards revenue authorities and
belief that the government works for the benefit of the individuals then there may be positive
relationship between tax morale and tax compliance. It is very essential that taxpayers feel that the
system is trustworthy, fair and just and the money paid by them is utilized in the right manner. There is
evidence that tax attitudes improve when the link to public expenditure is

Inside Rain Man By Dr. Temple Grandin
Inside Rain Man
It is never too late to expand the mind of a person on the autism spectrum. This quote by Dr. Temple
Grandin helps explain to me what autism is all about. According to autismspeaks.org , Autism is a
condition that is a result of a neurological disorder that has an affect on normal brain function,
affecting development of the person s communication and social interaction skills. Although we do not
have a set cause for autism, we know that it presents itself during the first three years of a child s life.
In the 1988 film Rain Man, we see a man, Raymond Babbit, with autism. The movie begins with
Charlie Babbit learning that his father has passed away and that he was left with a few rose bushes and
a car, while the rest of the 3 million dollars went to Charlie s brother Raymond. We later find out that
Charlie once knew Raymond and he actually gave Raymond the nickname Rain Man because when he
was little he couldn t say Raymond. Charlie like any other person who felt they were cheated out of
their share of family money was very determined. While spending time with Raymond ,Charlie found
that he was exceptionally brilliant but also has many characteristics that individuals with autism
experience. Throughout the film we see that Raymond has to have structure in his daily life, he often
repeats himself, and has trouble interacting with people and understanding concepts but is extremely
proficient in counting and doing calculations.

My Father Of The Colonoscopy
In the year 2012, my father in law was having some pain in his side and abdomen, but because the
pain would come and go, he ignored it and blamed it on his career as a mechanic which required
strenuous manual labor. As time went on, the pain continued to worsen, but he put off any tests
because he was about to turn 50 and knew he would be going in for a checkup at that time. In 2013 he
went in for his routine colonoscopy, but we could have never prepared ourselves for how this test was
about to affect all of our lives. My father in law was nervous the day of the colonoscopy because the
pain in his stomach had worsened when he had to flush out his system before the test could be
completed. The doctors assured him that this was normal for most everybody who had to go through
this process, and they seemed very optimistic about the way the results would turn out. Once the
procedure was complete, the doctors informed us that everything had gone well, but they did find
multiple masses in his colon that they had taken samples of and had sent to pathology to have tested.
We were instructed not to worry since this could be nothing, and they would contact us as soon as they
had the results. About a week later we received the good news that his tests had come back negative,
and that he was healthy. We all went along with our lives until nine days later when my mother in law
received a voice mail stating that they needed to call the doctors back immediately. They called the

On February 19, 2007, Krispy Kreme started selling the Whole Wheat Glazed doughnut to appeal to

Mammals Should Be Kept In Captivity
Can you imagine living in a cage for the rest of your life? Mammals are born to swim freely, they are

Essay Dissociative Identity Disorder
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Dissociative Identity Disorder, or DID, is defined as: The result of a marvelously creative defense
mechanism that a young child uses to cope with extremely overwhelming trauma (Hawkins, 2003, p.
3). Ross describes DID in this way: In its childhood onset forms, the disorder is an effective strategy
for coping with a traumatic environment: It becomes dysfunctional because environmental
circumstances have changed by adulthood (1997, p, 62). What types of traumatic environments are we
talking about here? Often children who form DID are involved in some sort of abuse. These types of
abuses can be physical, sexual and even ritual. Such abuses are not meant for children to have to
endure, however, the mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The imagining is so intense, subjectively compelling, and adaptive, that the abused child experiences
dissociated aspects of herself as other people. (Ross, 1997, p 59)
However, DID is not as simple as it seems. There are some who believe that it is created by therapists.
Paul R. McHugh writes:
MPD like hystero epilepsy, is created by therapists. This formerly rare and disputed diagnosis became
popular after the appearance of several best selling books and movies. It is often based on the crudest
form of suggestion. (http://www.psycom.net/mchugh.html)
In fact there are many more certified psychiatrists in America who are in agreement with McHugh. In
a survey of 300 psychiatrists in 1999, 2/3 believed that DID should not be included in the DSM IV
(http://www.ycp.edu/besc/Journal2001/Article_2.htm). This is a staggering number, for a truly
remarkable psychological condition. In spite of these statistics these same people believed DID should
be a proposed diagnosis, because of skepticism.
In true cases of DID new identities are formed to enable the child to be sheltered from the reality of
abuse. This diagnosis of DID is considered to be the most severe type of DID by Ross. He views DID
as a multifaceted psychological condition. Consider the following chart, found on page 98 of his book,

The Differences Between Renewable And Renewable Energy
There are many different energy sources out there today, both renewable and nonrenewable energy
sources. Renewable energy is energy sources that can be replenished over the course of time. Non
renewable energy is energy that will not be replenished over a long period of time (it can take up to
300 360 million years to recreate. (Tiwari, 2011, p.11)). By 2035, nonrenewable won t be able to be
used, or will it? Will renewable energy be sufficient than nonrenewable energy in the future, it now?
The most common nonrenewable energy source is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels include coal, petroleum,
and natural gas. All of these gases contain carbon in them, which hints why it takes longer to be
formed. It s very harmful to the environment because of that reason, they release carbon dioxide into
the atmosphere and also increases global warming. When these gases are burned they release
pollutants into the air, land, and water (Tiwari, 2011, p.4). Fossil fuels are very inexpensive to extract
and are easily stored and sold around the world. Venezuela is one of the biggest oil production places
and their country depends on it economically.
Another example of a nonrenewable energy includes nuclear energy. Although, the production of
nuclear energy is the renewable energy source, the materials used to create it is not. Nuclear energy is
created by splitting or fusing uranium atoms (nuclear fission/fusion) and produces electrical energy. It
also produces radioactive waste, which is very

Discuss the Ways in Which the Writers Present Ambition in...
In The White Devil by Webster and Paradise Lost Boox IX by Milton there are a handful of characters
that are driven by ambition. These characters often make foolish decisions to achieve their goals, often
with consequences. Both Webster and Milton present ambition as a positive motivation but show that
being over ambitious for personal gain has detrimental effects.
In The White Devil Webster presents Flamineo as the most ambitious character in the play. He is
driven by the personal goal of climbing up the class ladder and will go to any measures to ensure this
happens. In Act I, Scene II we see him act as a pander for Bracciano and Vittoria, dealing with their
meeting in a highly pragmatic way by deceiving Camillo so a meeting can ... Show more content on

In comparison to Flamineo Milton presents Satan as an ambitious character, again for person gain.
However, Satan s personal goal is not to heighten his own position but to lower the position of God.
However, unlike Flamineo, Satan fears the consequences of his actions from the start, knowing he has
been expelled from Eden before so travels cautious of day so not to be seen by the angels and God as
he looks for a way into Eden. Where Flamineo s actions are planned and he acts practically, Satan is
less calculated in his actions. He has to search for an animal in which to hide in. He eventually settles
for The serpent subtlest beast of all the field. Satan s actions are foolish as although not seen in Book
IX he is highly punished for his actions and is condemned to life as a snake forever more. Milton uses
epic similes within Book IX to show the actions of Satan, one from lines 510 150 shows Satan s
ambition is so strong he will go the long way around like a skilful steersman to achieve his final goal.
This epic simile is particularly impressive as the beginning of the lines of the simile form an acrostic,
the first letter of each line spelling out SATAN . However, as Chloe Batt highlights in her essay The
remaking of the Epic Milton doesn t restrict himself solely to the epic mode and instead Milton
defends his

Urban Runoff Is The Primary Source Of Ocean Pollution
The oceans need to be protected because it is where life began and if not taken care of, life as we
know it will end. The well being of the ocean is constantly being threatened and needs to stop. When
dangerous substances go into the ocean, ecosystems suffer and become endangered along with the
lives of people and marine life. The importance of protecting and preserving the quality and
biodiversity of the world s coasts must be recognized because they are truly irreplaceable. If humans
are not educated , and become careless about what is thrown on the ground or sprayed on lawns,
disastrous effects follow when it comes to the condition of the ocean s ecosystems, which can
endanger life itself, leading to a problem only we can correct. There is historical evidence of ocean
pollution, although the problem still shadows us today. One of the most poorly understood causes
ocean pollution is urban runoff. Urban runoff is also one of the leading causes of ocean pollution,
Surfrider agrees, Urban runoff is often the primary source of ocean pollution. The Ocean Friendly
Gardens (OFG) Program educates and assists people in creating landscapes that utilize native plants,
permeable ground covers and water retention features to prevent urban runoff, create wildlife habitats

Broken Age is a point and click adventure game. There are two different playable characters one is

Demonstrative Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages. These messages

or will gently touch the other persons hand or shoulder. * Pros of non verbal communication come in
the form of self expression, such as a business woman wearing a power dress and showing confidence
in every step she takes, thus allowing her to get respect without verbally asking for it. * Cons of non
verbal communication come in the form of lacking complexity. For example a person cannot
communicate the story of a particular day to a friend without using words, unless he/she took the time
to mime every detail. The message would still not be able to be conveyed accurately, for instance the
person trying to explain cannot non verbally that he/she had a chicken salad sandwich and orange
juice for lunch. Nonverbal communication cannot communicate complex facts or concepts (Sutton,
2011). In regards to the sender of a message, this person needs to ensure the message is taken exactly
as intended. In other words if the sender wants to non verbally express a job well done by his or her
employee than the sender should offer a friendly pat on the shoulder, with a soft or confident tone.
This will express a positive non verbal communication. On the other hand if the senders tone is harsh
and the hand gestures are inappropriate the employee will take offense and not feel like he/she did a

workplaces more family friendly for those they employ. Some examples of actions that demonstrate
workplaces being supportive of their employees efforts of combining family and work commitments
are childcare services, flexible schedules, and family or medical leave. Childcare services could
include things such as on site services to care for a child during employee work hours or by providing
a subsidy for outside childcare services. Accomplishing flexible schedules would include items that

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are damaging behaviors identified from research conducted by
social psychologist John Gottman. The ways these feeling are expressed is destructive and are
associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in divorce. The Four Horseman
are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt, such as an eye roll, is an attack
towards another s sense of self with the intention of psychologically abuse or an insult. It often leaves
the spouse feeling inferior or undesired. Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards another s
personality or their character, entails producing disapproving judgments or evaluations meant to
indicate the faults one one s partner. Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to deflect a
forthcoming verbal attack and ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself against a
presumed upcoming attack. Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid conflict to
distance oneself from disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give them serious
consideration. When using any of the Four Horsemen during a developing argument, the couple s
quarrel will often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous towards the
other party and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger problem. This would
leave the parties defensive towards each other and with negative feeling abound could signal an

Introduction
Business ethics has developed since the 1960s in the United States. Ethical dilemmas have changed
according to the economic environment. During the 2000s, financial failures happened more
frequently because of unprecedented economic growth. Nowadays, ethical dilemmas such as financial
mismanagement, international corruption, and companies promotional purpose are the main reasons
that some high profile companies such as Enron and Lehman Brothers collapsed. Due to the allure of
huge benefits, management is facing bigger ethical challenges than ever before when making business
decisions. Over the last two decades, business ethics has been troubled by a lack of direction and has
become entangled in its own logic (Donaldson, Dunfee, 1994, p.1). Business ethics as self regulation
helps us to distinguish between two things. What exactly we think ïŹrms ethical obligations are, above
and beyond complying with laws, and what it would be favorable for them to choose to do when they
are not obliged to do so (Norman, 2011, p.1). When fraud happens, companies collapse more rapidly

Essay on Medicine During the Elizabethan Era
Medicine During the Elizabethan Era
The medicinal practices and problems of the Elizabethan Era were very important to the people,
although they are very different from those of today. There were many different beliefs and diseases,
like the Plague. Medicine was not an exact science and was related to Alchemy (Chemistry). Here,
some of the many practices and beliefs of the Elizabethan Era will be discussed.
One of the most widely known and important of the beliefs was the humours. It was believed that
every living creature was composed of four elements, the humours. They were blood, phlegm, choler

Alchemy (Early Chemistry) was another science closely related to medicine. Alchemy was the name
given to this science in Latin Europe in the 12th century. It was a belief that the human body was
closely related to the stars and the heavens. Over hundreds of years, the main goals of alchemists were
to turn any metal into gold and discover an elixir which could cure all ills or lead to immortality. This
magical elixir was called the philosopher s stone. Alchemy was based on the belief that there are four
basic elements fire, earth, air and water and three essentials salt, sulfur and mercury. The metals gold,
silver, copper, lead, iron, and tin were all known before the rise of alchemy. The liquid metal, mercury,
and the burning rock, sulfur, were also known. Many processes with these elements were known to
alchemists. The art of alchemy was heavily spiritual. Alchemists were the first to try out different
ideas and experiment with different elements, but because of their intense metaphysical and spiritual
beliefs, they didn t develop modern day scientific methods.

Analysis Of Scott Momaday s Journey To Rainy Mountain
Introduction
People come from different backgrounds and ancestral foundations. They are at times defined by these
beginnings, and some may end up wanting to know more. Most do not find their ancestral grounding
in their childhood but come to realize it later in life. Many have the advantage of being someone and
identifying with their culture as a basis of their personality. Maintaining proper and adequate
understanding is determined by what one handles and does on a personal, cultural and familial level.
Scott Momaday is a reflection of a person who has been born and lives within the culture. His book,
Journey to Rainy Mountain, is a collection of poems, memoirs and myths on the Kiowa culture.

Part 1 Al Momaday
Looking at the father s memoir and experiences, there is a lot to be discussed because he is a sign of
historical accuracy. He gives an account of how things were in terms of family, leadership and his
existence as a Kiowa man. It gives experiences on how his life was formed around the people of
Kiowa and his obligations to the tribe, nature and family (Momaday 20). His role as a Kiowa man
brings forth his understanding and shows a lot of offerings and activities that happened along ancestral
grounds. It demonstrates the kind of attitude and impression that Momaday had towards his father and
what he regarded him to be in terms of being the head of the family (Momaday 26). It presents the
responsibility that the father took up and other men had within the tribe. The mythical part is mostly
within the experiences and explanations of the father who sets the tone of showing the Kiowa life in a
balanced yet mystical way.
Part 2 Historical Information
The historical information regarding the Kiowa people reflects on the mythological and culture of the
Kiowa people. It sets the tone of identifying the strengths of the tribe, practices and ideas that
developed within the tribe. It also shows a relation of the Kiowa people to nature, other mythical
creatures and how the culture came into existence. It also shows what made the culture of so much
importance to those who practiced it and in what context they felt that they were able to

The Administration Of Civil Law
The Administration of Civil Law
In 1996 Lord Woolf reconstructed his review on Civil Justice which led to the Access to Justice Act
1999. There were a number of criticisms within the system and Lord Woolf s aim was to reduce cost,
delay and complexity within the system and increase access to justice. (Elliot Quinn, 2015).
There are currently 216 county courts that are solely concerned with civil work. Around 170 of them
are divorce county courts and have jurisdiction to hear undefended divorce and adoption or
guardianship cases. In the High Court, civil work, divorce and family matters still remain, though
there is a separate Family Court which was introduced in April 2014. Next is the court of Appeal,
followed by the Supreme Court. (i.b.i.d).
Question One:
Before a trial or case management begins, a case must first be allocated to one of the three tracks;
small claims, fast track or multi track. This will determine the future conduct of proceedings. In order
to determine which track would be the most appropriate the court gives questionnaires to each party.
The answers to the questionnaires will help to determine in which track the case would be dealt with
best.
If Harriet were to claim a value of ÂŁ10,000 or less then this would be the small claims track. In this
procedure she would be advised to contact an experienced adviser, such as a Citizens Advice Bureau,

The exchanges of cultural ideas have been critical to human development. This relates to how humans
have formed and used networks of trade and exchange through art and food. This exchange is evident
during the Roman Empire that grew to dominate Southwestern Europe, Southeastern Europe and the
Mediterranean area. As Roman civilization grew to dominate these areas, it captured and assimilated
the culture, enhancing its delicate dishes. Roman food is an expression of the cultural diffusion of the
people they interacted with and those they conquered. To analyze such cultural diffusion, the recipe

Abstract Expressionism Essay
abstract expressionism It was a full 170 years after Americans had their political revolution that they
won an aesthetic revolution. American art to get rid of its inhibiting mechanisms provincialism, over
dependence on European sources, and an indifferent public and liberate itself into a quality and
expressive force equal to, or exceeding that of art produced anywhere within the period. Few would
argue that the painting and sculpture that emerged from the so called New York School in the mid
1940s was the foremost artistic phenomenon of its time and was labeled as the Abstract Expressionist
movement. Abstract expressionism was a reaction to social realism, surrealism, and primitive art in the

Sacred signs overlaid over unconfined surfaces were appealing because the artist was not restricted by
a framing edge. They also admired the scale of cave paintings. They were very big and encouraged
their followers to paint big. The most significant impact of primitive art was the cave paintings
admirable freedom, which influenced the free, unbound style in which the abstract expressionists
painted. The revolt of fascism and realism is freedom, which is articulated in the free form style of the
Abstract Expressionist.
Americans for generations had sought to achieve their own artistic maturity and had largely failed,
either by inadequate assimilation of European models or by America s own provincialism. The
Abstract Expressionist Movement was so influential because it was the first time that American artists
were doing something new and different from Europe. American Artists for the first time had an
advantage over Europe, which virtually transferred the center of the art world from Paris to New York.
Ironically, it was the paralyzing poverty of the Great Depression that gave younger American artists
their first advantage. Beginning in 1935, with the Federal Art Project organized under the Works
Progress Administration, artists could earn a living as artists and do so free to create in whatever
manner they might choose. They could even gravitate to New York, traditionally America s safe haven

To A Mouse By Robert Burns
Robert Burns wrote the poem To A Mouse . In this poem, Burns identifies the animal with the human
world, although the poem is essentially about himself. The mouse is interesting to him, because its
plight reminds him of his own. The comparison, however, is neither forced nor sentimental, and the
gap between the world of mice and men is bridged by friendly compassion. The poem has charm and
vigor, as well as technical skills. The poem gives us a momentary flash of a philosophical view of an
order in nature, which is not made the subject of moralizing but only lightly suggested. Light though
the suggestion is, it swells out and provides an implicit moral base for the poem. In verse two, Burns
states: I m truly sorry man s dominion; Has broken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here he tells the mouse that he realizes its need to steal the odd ear of corn, and he does not really
mind. He ll get by with remainder and never miss it. He then marks a return to the bridge between the
world of mice and men achieved effortlessly and with apparent casualness. Having linked mice and
men in that simple phrase, he can proceed to speak of us which now means all mortal creatures. He
goes on to state: But Mousie, thou art no thy lane; In proving foresight may be vain; The best laid
schemes o mice an men; Gang aft agley; An lea e us nought but grieft an pain; For promis d joy! .
Burns means whether you are a mouse, a man, or any other creature, the problem of having your plans
ruined is universal. In conclusion Robert Burns makes the reader think about life in very different
aspects for the time period that this poem was written. He shows that life is never easy. You can be an
animal as simple as a mouse or as complex as a human and have complications in your life. Burns has

using cell phones in the classroom these days. He said he has his students look up QR codes and

be a discipline plan for students who do break the rules. Learning how to use these tools appropriately

A Basic Principle Of Attachment Theory Essay
A parent child interaction happens prenatal and continues throughout a child s development soon after
a child is born, an attachment begins. This attachment begins with imprinting which some call the
sensitive period. During this time the child will become attached to the first caregiver seen (usually the
mother) and look to it for any sort of comfort. This was discovered through Bowlby s experiment with
ducks in the 1970 s, Bowlby defined attachment theory as Attachment theory conceptualizes the
propensity of human beings to make strong affectional bonds to particular others (Bowlby, 1977, p.
201). (Bartholomew Horowitz, 1991 p. 226). A basic principle of attachment theory is that attachment
relationships continue to be important throughout the life span (Ainsworth, 1982,1989; Bowlby,
1977,1980,1982b). (Bartholomew Horowitz, 1991 p. 226). Many theories have been proposed to
explain what motivates human interactions and behaviors in relationships. This literature review on

The best thing in the world to me I think is my video games because it gives me thrill ride of joy. Well

The role of the Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge as a bird oasis among disappearing wetlands was
short lived. The combined efforts of the Klamath Water Users Association and the Bureau of

the South Pacific Railroad dike(Most 2006;Foster 2008). In 1922 all that remained of Lower Klamath

which overpowered the dikes built to restrain it, the Bureau of Reclamation built a 6,000 foot tunnel to

Nightcrawler Research Paper
Ghazal Al Awad Professor Brownell English 103 06 December 2016 Nightcrawler: If It Bleeds, It
Leads It is said that perfection is unattainable, but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence (
Vince Lombardi ). Lombardi is saying that people are always encouraged to do the best they can, but
they can never be perfect. However, excellence can be attained if someone keeps up the hard and stays
motivated. When people are not good enough, vicious, bad, or even worse, they seem to want to relate
to others and try to relieve themselves that they are not the only bad people out there. To relieve
themselves, they tend to watch movies, specifically, movies about antiheroes. Antiheroes as defined in

Gilroy offers provocative commentary on the creation and consumption of [the] news in 21st century
America. This may be true, but Nightcrawler is a powerful reminder that the situation has only gotten
worse (Nightcrawler). It is known that the purpose of local television news is to inform people about
what is happening in their communities. For example, when Lou captured the homicide scene, Nina
insisted on making the scene more dramatic by telling the [presenters to keep repeating] some strong
words that would scare the audience and give more fame to her TV station. Nina says, hit it harder.
Build it. Say vicious attack (Gilroy). Nightcrawler takes it a step further by showing us how local
news operates when crime rates have dropped. This dearth of violence means there will be a frantic
fight to be the first on the scene when a crime does occur; furthermore, in Lou s case, there will also
be fabrication in order to make the scene more dramatic ( Nightcrawler ). To succeed as a TV station,
news should be exclusive and unique. However, Nightcrawler has shown how news can fabricate a
crime scene in order to make it look more dramatic and more frightening. It seems as if Gilroy is
questioning the credibility of news and at the same time accusing the news of obtaining their news
immorally. The Nightcrawler insinuates

Becoming A Successful After Secondary Education
It is a dream for most parents to have the opportunity to watch their children full time without having
to worry about working full time, just to pay off their student debt. In the United states, out of all of
the mothers, only 29 percent of mothers are full time stay at home mothers (D Vera Cohn, Gretchen
Livingston, Wang). Cohn, Livingston and Wang study demographic and ethnic trends for a living
(Cohn, Livingston, Wendy Wang). Sadly, in contrast to the 29 percent of stay at home mother, my
friend Holly Haney, works countless hours every day and has to pay a large sum of her check to
student debt. I wish I would have been more educated on student loans. Even though it was the cool
thing to do back then, it certainly isn t anymore (Holly Haney). Like Holly, I am also learning that in
order for me to become successful after secondary education, I need to be more educated on the
dangers of having student debt , so that my future wife will be part of the 29 percent of full time stay
at home mothers. By looking over the previous years, even though much has been said about student
debt, very little attention has been paid on the causes and effects of having student debt. There are
many important things to know about student debt, such as what types of loans are available for
students and the advantages and disadvantages of some student loans. I will show what students have
done to get them in financial trouble and some possible solutions that our country can take to

Far away, on the border of both France and Switzerland, lies the massive CERN Accelerator Complex.
This series of particle accelerators increases the momentum of packets of nuclei to almost light speed,
then collides them. It collects the debris of the resulting destruction in hopes of finding the basic
building blocks of matter. This is a basic overview of what happens at CERN, but when examined
more closely, this process becomes far more difficult and complicated. How does this Atom Smasher
work? How is it built? Most importantly, how do the thousands of euros poured into this costly
research benefit the practical world? The CERN Accelerator Complex uses advanced technology and
complicated processes to speed up particles just below ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final step is when they are shot into the Large Hadron Collider, twenty seven kilometers, about
seventeen miles, in circumference. This ring has two vacuum tubes that fire protons in opposite
direction, crossing them over in detector caverns. Here, computers take measurements to make sure
nothing unexpected happens, such as a packet colliding into a wall, or smashing into another packet
too early. When they are finally made to collide at four terra EV each, the computer tracks information
about the debris, small particles such as quarks, and keeps it as data. Thus ends the travel of the
packets and the process is repeated, furthering the cause of science. The technology to make this
process work is incredibly advanced, stretching from super conduction to super computers. Most of
the electronics at CERN are superconducting, which is where wires are cooled to such an extent that
they provide virtually no resistance for the electrons passing through them. The niobium titanium
wires at CERN are cooled to negative 456.34 degrees Fahrenheit, making them one hundred times
more conductive. This is vital, because the power required to keep the accelerators, computers,
magnets, ect. running is so colossal, the CERN complex needs it s own substation. It runs on 1.3 terra
watts hours per year, enough to power 300,000 homes in the United Kingdom. The radio frequency

Racism In Obasan
The novel Obasan revolves around the main character Naomi Nakane, who goes to visit her aunt soon
after her uncles passing to check up on her. Throughout her time there, she discovers a box filled with
her uncles belonging during the time of WWI such as pictures, documents, and letters. Through this,
she learns of the hardships she and her family went through after the bombing of Pearl Harbour. The
way the novel is written is in first person. We get to experience first hand on Naomi s thoughts,
opinions and personal memories that she relates her findings to, since it is also written in an informal
way, we also get to understand Naomi s thought process a little better, and the structure of the writing
also plays a key role in the storytelling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often times, we are blinded with the illusion on how Canada is a perfect country with no
wrongdoings, when the truth is, we are just as bad as any other country on the topic of racism. The
wrongdoings and crimes against the Japanese Canadians in Canada are one of those examples.
Although we do learn about them briefly in school, Obasan gives a new perspective on how a
Japanese Canadian received this treatment for non Japanese Canadians in their time and her
perspective on it. We learn of her and her family s hardships that they had to face after the bombing of
Pearl Harbour, in one part, one of her aunts even says The American Japanese were interned as we
were in Canada, and sent off to concentration camps, but their property wasn t liquidated as ours was.
and We ve never recovered from the dispersal policy. But of course, that was the government s whole
idea to make sure we d never be visible again. Official racism was blatant in Canada. The Americans
have a Bill of Rights, right? We don t. ( Chapter 7 pg 34) These quotes strike the readers hard, the
once ideal and perfect country that we have thought it be isn t all that it seems. Canada has done a lot
of wrongs to people in its past and still now, and by reading Obasan, it can help open up your mind
and think about the things that still need to be improved in our country/world and how we cannot
allow these things to repeat once more in history, so with the power that we have as citizens/ people,
we should use it to the greatest of our

Rogue Wave Analysis
It is not safe for teens to sail by themselves or with friends. Although, sailing by themselves or with
friends can help them get more experience with sailing and even fishing. It can also help them learn
more about the ocean and the different things in the ocean. But, many things could go wrong while
they are sailing and no one can help them, they could die or go missing forever! If a teen goes sailing
by themselves or with few friends, they could go missing somewhere in the ocean and no one could
find them. In the article Marine experts say missing Fla. teenagers should not have been alone
offshore, it says that Two 14 year old boys had gone missing off the coast of Florida in a fishing boat,
it doesn t say if they have found the children yet so they probably haven t. It also says that they
searched day and night and haven t found the children. Also, if a teen goes sailing by themselves,
many things could go wrong, like somethings could break, something could fall out of the boat, or
someone could get trapped in the boat. In the short story Rogue Wave Scoot had gotten trapped under
the deck and was sinking every minute. In the story, it says that the doors were jammed and there was
only very few ways out from the inside unless they had tools. It also says that the bow submerging and

Persuasive Essay On The Future Of The Internet
Imagine an internet dystopia where the most common pop ups are upgrade internet plan to view this
site. A click on the pop up summons ten different plans, and before long there is a thirty dollar bill for
viewing the site. If this was not paid, then the internet access to these sites would be put onto the slow
band . This world is not too far off, with the only law protecting the neutrality of the internet being the
fact that the internet is classified as a utility. Today, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission)
is trying to change this by repealing the ruling from 2014 that made the internet classified as a utility.
If these old rules are repealed there will be serious economic repercussions to consumers and other
businesses. Consumers can be charged more for slower internet, and businesses could be forced to pay
a ransom to ensure consumers have access to their websites.
Many people take for granted the fact that they can go anywhere on the internet. The idea that every
website has equal access to consumers is called internet neutrality. The internet has been this way for
as long as it has been open to the public because the government has protected it. The internet was
classified under article 706 of the telecommunications act of 1996 until 2014. The goal of this
classification was to have net neutrality, but many internet service providers, or ISP s do not like the
concept, believing that an open internet would allow for more investment. In 2014 Verizon realized

What Is A Refugee Boy Essay
A)
There are many ways to describe and explain what a refugee is. A refugee is a person who has been
forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. A refugee has a
fear of being persecuted for various reasons, such as; race, religion, political issues. Majority of
refugees prefer to return back home as soon as it is safe and when the problem is being resolved. An
asylum seeker is someone who flees their own country and seek for sanctuary in another country,
usually in neighbouring countries. Refugees travels by land and sea. It is really risky to be a refugee,

one of the reasons for the disaster. According to BBC: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

C. S. Lewis Symbolism, Development and Morality in The Chronicles of Narnia In all novels,
symbolism is a key element that authors use to heighten the literary merit of their writing. In The
Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis uses symbolism as a driving force throughout the series. Without the
use of likeliness of Christian figures, Lewis series would lack deep literary meaning. The wide variety
of symbols and literary devices used in these books successfully evoke deep thought and inspires
readers to analyze the work further. Lewis uses many different forms of symbolism throughout The
Chronicles of Narnia. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, there is a character named Aslan.
Aslan is a lion whose purpose in the novel is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The White Witch uses an eternal winter to impose her will on the Narnians. Her favorite way of
striking fear into the souls of the creatures around her is by turning them to stone. Turning people to
stone is the White Witch s forté, and stone, like ice, is a state of being frozen (Patterson). The White
Witch mercilessly turns any creature that goes against her to stone, as described in this scene:
Then she raised her wand. Oh, don t, don t, please don t, shouted Edmund, but even while he was
shouting she had waved her wand and instantly where the merry party had been there were only
statues of creatures (one with its stone fork fixed forever half way to its stone mouth) seated round a
stone table on which there were stone plates and a stone plum pudding (Lewis, 65).
Aslan is the only source of salvation these poor individuals have. His powers successfully juxtapose
the White Witches. Lewis describes Aslan s abilities in this passage:
For a second after Aslan had breathed upon him the stone lion looked just the same. Then a tiny streak
of gold began to run along his white marble back then it spread then the colour seemed to lick all over
him as the flame licks all over a bit of paper then, while his hindquarters were still obviously stone,
the lion shook his mane and

Behavioral economics brings insights from psychology and other social sciences into economic models. Behavioural insights are also used for economic models of decision making. A key feature of behavioural economics is its empirical approach. There is a growing scope of the contribution of behavioural economics to the design and improvement of tax policy. Many behavioural economic ideas have helped develop the traditional economic choice framework, in which people are assumed to make rational, self interested and consistent choices. According to autismspeaks.org , Autism is a condition that is a result of a neurological disorder that has an affect on normal brain function, affecting development of the person s communication and social interaction skills. Although we do not have a set cause for autism, we know that it presents itself during the first three years of a child s life. In the 1988 film Rain Man, we see a man, Raymond Babbit, with autism. The movie begins with Charlie Babbit learning that his father has passed away and that he was left with a few rose bushes and a car, while the rest of the 3 million dollars went to Charlie s brother Raymond. We later find out that Charlie once knew Raymond and he actually gave Raymond the nickname Rain Man because when he was little he couldn t say Raymond. Charlie like any other person who felt they were cheated out of their share of family money was very determined. While spending time with Raymond ,Charlie found that he was exceptionally brilliant but also has many characteristics that individuals with autism experience. My Father Of The Colonoscopy In the year 2012, my father in law was having some pain in his side and abdomen, but because the pain would come and go, he ignored it and blamed it on his career as a mechanic which required strenuous manual labor. As time went on, the pain continued to worsen, but he put off any tests because he was about to turn 50 and knew he would be going in for a checkup at that time. In 2013 he went in for his routine colonoscopy, but we could have never prepared ourselves for how this test was about to affect all of our lives. My father in law was nervous the day of the colonoscopy because the pain in his stomach had worsened when he had to flush out his system before the test could be completed. The doctors assured him that this was normal for most everybody who had to go through this process, and they seemed very optimistic about the way the results would turn out. Once the procedure was complete, the doctors informed us that everything had gone well, but they did find multiple masses in his colon that they had taken samples of and had sent to pathology to have tested. We were instructed not to worry since this could be nothing, and they would contact us as soon as they had the results. About a week later we received the good news that his tests had come back negative, and that he was healthy. Essay Dissociative Identity Disorder Dissociative Identity Disorder Dissociative Identity Disorder, or DID, is defined as: The result of a marvelously creative defense mechanism that a young child uses to cope with extremely overwhelming trauma (Hawkins, 2003, p. 3). Ross describes DID in this way: In its childhood onset forms, the disorder is an effective strategy for coping with a traumatic environment: It becomes dysfunctional because environmental circumstances have changed by adulthood (1997, p, 62). What types of traumatic environments are we talking about here? Often children who form DID are involved in some sort of abuse. These types of abuses can be physical, sexual and even ritual. (Ross, 1997, p 59) However, DID is not as simple as it seems. There are some who believe that it is created by therapists. Paul R. McHugh writes: MPD like hystero epilepsy, is created by therapists. This formerly rare and disputed diagnosis became popular after the appearance of several best selling books and movies. It is often based on the crudest form of suggestion. (http://www.psycom.net/mchugh.html) In fact there are many more certified psychiatrists in America who are in agreement with McHugh. In a survey of 300 psychiatrists in 1999, 2/3 believed that DID should not be included in the DSM IV (http://www.ycp.edu/besc/Journal2001/Article_2.htm). This is a staggering number, for a truly remarkable psychological condition. In spite of these statistics these same people believed DID should be a proposed diagnosis, because of skepticism. In true cases of DID new identities are formed to enable the child to be sheltered from the reality of abuse. This diagnosis of DID is considered to be the most severe type of DID by Ross. • 9. The Differences Between Renewable And Renewable Energy There are many different energy sources out there today, both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. Renewable energy is energy sources that can be replenished over the course of time. Non renewable energy is energy that will not be replenished over a long period of time (it can take up to 300 360 million years to recreate. (Tiwari, 2011, p.11)). By 2035, nonrenewable won t be able to be used, or will it? Will renewable energy be sufficient than nonrenewable energy in the future, it now? The most common nonrenewable energy source is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels include coal, petroleum, and natural gas. All of these gases contain carbon in them, which hints why it takes longer to be formed. It s very harmful to the environment because of that reason, they release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and also increases global warming. When these gases are burned they release pollutants into the air, land, and water (Tiwari, 2011, p.4). Fossil fuels are very inexpensive to extract and are easily stored and sold around the world. Venezuela is one of the biggest oil production places and their country depends on it economically. Another example of a nonrenewable energy includes nuclear energy. Although, the production of nuclear energy is the renewable energy source, the materials used to create it is not. Nuclear energy is created by splitting or fusing uranium atoms (nuclear fission/fusion) and produces electrical energy. It also produces radioactive waste, which is very ... In The White Devil Webster presents Flamineo as the most ambitious character in the play. He is driven by the personal goal of climbing up the class ladder and will go to any measures to ensure this happens. He eventually settles for The serpent subtlest beast of all the field. Satan s actions are foolish as although not seen in Book IX he is highly punished for his actions and is condemned to life as a snake forever more. Milton uses epic similes within Book IX to show the actions of Satan, one from lines 510 150 shows Satan s ambition is so strong he will go the long way around like a skilful steersman to achieve his final goal. This epic simile is particularly impressive as the beginning of the lines of the simile form an acrostic, the first letter of each line spelling out SATAN . The ways these feeling are expressed is destructive and are associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in divorce. The Four Horseman are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt, such as an eye roll, is an attack towards another s sense of self with the intention of psychologically abuse or an insult. It often leaves the spouse feeling inferior or undesired. Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards another s personality or their character, entails producing disapproving judgments or evaluations meant to indicate the faults one one s partner. Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to deflect a forthcoming verbal attack and ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself against a presumed upcoming attack. Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid conflict to distance oneself from disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give them serious consideration. When using any of the Four Horsemen during a developing argument, the couple s quarrel will often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous towards the other party and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger problem. There are currently 216 county courts that are solely concerned with civil work. Around 170 of them are divorce county courts and have jurisdiction to hear undefended divorce and adoption or guardianship cases. • 29. To A Mouse By Robert Burns Robert Burns wrote the poem To A Mouse . In this poem, Burns identifies the animal with the human world, although the poem is essentially about himself. The mouse is interesting to him, because its plight reminds him of his own. The comparison, however, is neither forced nor sentimental, and the gap between the world of mice and men is bridged by friendly compassion. The poem has charm and vigor, as well as technical skills. The poem gives us a momentary flash of a philosophical view of an order in nature, which is not made the subject of moralizing but only lightly suggested. Light though the suggestion is, it swells out and provides an implicit moral base for the poem. In verse two, Burns states: I m truly sorry man s dominion; Has broken ... • 32. A Basic Principle Of Attachment Theory Essay A parent child interaction happens prenatal and continues throughout a child s development soon after a child is born, an attachment begins. This attachment begins with imprinting which some call the sensitive period. During this time the child will become attached to the first caregiver seen (usually the mother) and look to it for any sort of comfort. This was discovered through Bowlby s experiment with ducks in the 1970 s, Bowlby defined attachment theory as Attachment theory conceptualizes the propensity of human beings to make strong affectional bonds to particular others (Bowlby, 1977, p. 201). Becoming A Successful After Secondary Education It is a dream for most parents to have the opportunity to watch their children full time without having to worry about working full time, just to pay off their student debt. In the United states, out of all of the mothers, only 29 percent of mothers are full time stay at home mothers (D Vera Cohn, Gretchen Livingston, Wang). Cohn, Livingston and Wang study demographic and ethnic trends for a living (Cohn, Livingston, Wendy Wang). Sadly, in contrast to the 29 percent of stay at home mother, my friend Holly Haney, works countless hours every day and has to pay a large sum of her check to student debt. I wish I would have been more educated on student loans. Even though it was the cool thing to do back then, it certainly isn t anymore (Holly Haney). Like Holly, I am also learning that in order for me to become successful after secondary education, I need to be more educated on the dangers of having student debt , so that my future wife will be part of the 29 percent of full time stay at home mothers. By looking over the previous years, even though much has been said about student debt, very little attention has been paid on the causes and effects of having student debt. There are many important things to know about student debt, such as what types of loans are available for students and the advantages and disadvantages of some student loans. I will show what students have done to get them in financial trouble and some possible solutions that our country can take to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Harder You Look, the More There Is to See Essay Far away, on the border of both France and Switzerland, lies the massive CERN Accelerator Complex. This series of particle accelerators increases the momentum of packets of nuclei to almost light speed, then collides them. It collects the debris of the resulting destruction in hopes of finding the basic building blocks of matter. This is a basic overview of what happens at CERN, but when examined more closely, this process becomes far more difficult and complicated. How does this Atom Smasher work? How is it built? Most importantly, how do the thousands of euros poured into this costly research benefit the practical world? The CERN Accelerator Complex uses advanced technology and complicated processes to speed up particles just below ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final step is when they are shot into the Large Hadron Collider, twenty seven kilometers, about seventeen miles, in circumference. This ring has two vacuum tubes that fire protons in opposite direction, crossing them over in detector caverns. Here, computers take measurements to make sure nothing unexpected happens, such as a packet colliding into a wall, or smashing into another packet too early. When they are finally made to collide at four terra EV each, the computer tracks information about the debris, small particles such as quarks, and keeps it as data. Thus ends the travel of the packets and the process is repeated, furthering the cause of science. The technology to make this process work is incredibly advanced, stretching from super conduction to super computers. Most of the electronics at CERN are superconducting, which is where wires are cooled to such an extent that they provide virtually no resistance for the electrons passing through them. The niobium titanium wires at CERN are cooled to negative 456.34 degrees Fahrenheit, making them one hundred times more conductive. This is vital, because the power required to keep the accelerators, computers, magnets, ect. running is so colossal, the CERN complex needs it s own substation. It runs on 1.3 terra watts hours per year, enough to power 300,000 homes in the United Kingdom. The radio frequency cavity, one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A click on the pop up summons ten different plans, and before long there is a thirty dollar bill for viewing the site. If this was not paid, then the internet access to these sites would be put onto the slow band . This world is not too far off, with the only law protecting the neutrality of the internet being the fact that the internet is classified as a utility. Today, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) is trying to change this by repealing the ruling from 2014 that made the internet classified as a utility. If these old rules are repealed there will be serious economic repercussions to consumers and other businesses. Consumers can be charged more for slower internet, and businesses could be forced to pay a ransom to ensure consumers have access to their websites. The internet has been this way for as long as it has been open to the public because the government has protected it. The internet was classified under article 706 of the telecommunications act of 1996 until 2014. The wide variety of symbols and literary devices used in these books successfully evoke deep thought and inspires readers to analyze the work further. Her favorite way of striking fear into the souls of the creatures around her is by turning them to stone. Turning people to stone is the White Witch s forté, and stone, like ice, is a state of being frozen (Patterson). The White Witch mercilessly turns any creature that goes against her to stone, as described in this scene: Then she raised her wand. Oh, don t, don t, please don t, shouted Edmund, but even while he was shouting she had waved her wand and instantly where the merry party had been there were only statues of creatures (one with its stone fork fixed forever half way to its stone mouth) seated round a stone table on which there were stone plates and a stone plum pudding (Lewis, 65). Aslan is the only source of salvation these poor individuals have. His powers successfully juxtapose the White Witches. Lewis describes Aslan s abilities in this passage: For a second after Aslan had breathed upon him the stone lion looked just the same. Then a tiny streak of gold began to run along his white marble back then it spread then the colour seemed to lick all over him as the flame licks all over a bit of paper then, while his hindquarters were still obviously stone, the lion shook his mane and ...
