Analysis Of Survival Essay By Dale Fry
Survival Essay Dale Fry
There once was a man(in a movie) who said When stranded start solving problems solve one then
solve the next and if you solve enough problems you get to go home That man was Mark Wattney. I
feel i could ve survived the experience Salva went through because I would have got to work fast, I
would ve always thought optimistically and I would have been very motivated to survive so i could

Difference Between International Expansion And Inorganic...
Written Assignment unit #7
October 24th, 2017
Companies have an amazing ability to grow and develop on the market. Companies are able to expand
on several different platforms including nationally, internationally, online and many other ways. How
companies are able to develop gives a good idea to how successful they will be in the long run. By
developing different strategies companies are able to develop nationally as well of internationally. By
reaching out into new markets, companies are able to expand even beyond borders.
Describe two major ways in which a company can grow. Give examples to illustrate the two ways of
growing.
Companies are able to grow in many different ways. Two of those ways are international expansion
and inorganic growth. With international expansion companies decide to move their companies to
another country in hopes of breaking into the market in the host countries. Trading in the European
union has risen by 30% in the last 30 years(Davis, p2). Companies want to expand internationally
because they are able to hire for cheaper and establish a competitive advantage over their
competition.Growing internationally can be very difficult. Differences in language, culture, laws,
production cost and other situations that can cause conflict. Inorganic growth is when a company s
joins other already established companies. When joining another company, they could either be
merging or taken over. In horizontal integration is when two companies at the same stage

Adversity in Life Elicits Unknown Talents and Strength Essay
Who we really are, what our real character is only truly elicited when we are challenged, as a proverb
states, In the darkest hour shines the brightest light. Our true character shines through when we are
pushed to our extremes and are placed in situations outside of the norm. Horace claims that when
someone is faced with an adversity or a challenge, they are more likely to discover talents that they
thought they never had. I agree with his claim that adversity breeds talents and strengthens our
character, but still understand the importance of prosperity in developing talents.
The modern world has an abundance of prosperity; many countries are now affluent. In these
prosperous circumstances talents stay hidden, but countries like Nepal, ... Show more content on

This was the greatest adversity that he would ever face and it helped uncover his greatest talent, his

is almost unfathomable, could you saw off your arm with a rusty pocketknife? Without having faced
this life or death situation Danny Boyle would have never known what lengths he would go to too

Adversity doesn t only elicit talents and shape character in extreme situations; many people s first
experience of adversity is found in school sports. Growing up I was part of eight SAISA tournaments
that have all changed who I am. In my experiences I faced a range of challenges, challenges that in
any other situation I would have never come across. The most vivid situation was at SAISA football
2013. We had just reached the final of the tournament and with a big crowed at the pitch there was a
lot of pressure, but that wasn t the challenge I would be facing. Just five minutes into the match I came
under a harsh headed tackle from an opposition player and as a result I spilt my eyebrow open. At first
it wasn t that bad, I tried to stand up but fell back down, then I felt the blood drip down my face and
roll into my ear. I was then taken to the hospital, because the nurse feared a concussion. My character

Cheesecake Factory Analysis
Theme Paper: The Anomaly that is The Cheesecake Factory The Cheesecake Factory is a name that
rings familiar across America. Ranked the #1 casual dining chain, The Cheesecake Factory s
affordable food and large portions appeal to the masses ( Consumer Picks 2016: Casual Dining
Results ). A vivid portrait of American capitalism, The Cheesecake Factory has transformed its strange
design concepts into an established theme, convinced its fans that its inexpensive style is that of
luxury, and coaxed its customers into thinking that its menu choices are a blessing, not an
inconvenience. It has twisted its incompetence into a competitive strategy a true deviant that still
manages to be at the top of the ratings. The Cheesecake Factory is a true anomaly in the world no
other restaurant has pulled this concept off on such a large scale. The restaurant industry stands in awe
of the giant that has become The Cheesecake Factory.
The Cheesecake Factory, according to its CEO David Overton, has broken all the rules in order to
become successful ( 2017 Golden Chain Award Winner ). For example, their strategies go far beyond
Porter s understood and standardized theories of low cost versus differentiation (Porter, 1980, 35 and
41). The Cheesecake Factory manages to provide apparently luxurious food to its customers for cheap,
thereby both keeping its food low cost and differentiating their products. Instead of relying on one
strategy to become successful, The Cheesecake Factory has the best combination of differentiators: its
price and its quality. As a result, The Cheesecake Factory benefits from having the best of both of
Porter s strategies for competitive advantage, thereby conferring upon itself a tremendous marketplace
advantage (Hambrick and Fredrickson, 6).
This multiunit restaurant chain s style has a bizarre combination of ancient Egypt with Victorian style
architecture crossed with Las Vegas extravagance and giant leathery booths. The Cheesecake Factory
chain became successful immediately at its start, and thus the design budget allocated to the future
restaurants outweighed most normal restaurants of the same size. Regardless, this does not explain the
off putting amalgamation of themes that this restaurant

Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of X Rays
Taking radiographs on pregnant women, or being the tech taking the x rays, you should take more
precaution then with a normal patient that is not carrying a child. Also, there are certain amounts of
radiation that is or is not good for the fetus or the women carrying the child. With too much radiation
to the unborn child it could cause organ dysfunction, growth development, and many other things. X
rays are also safe when you follow the correct precautions. There are also a lot of reason why not to be
around x rays when a woman is pregnant.
With being the operator of the x ray you should only be pointed at your head and not your chest,
organs, or even the fetus unless you get an abdominal x ray but even then the risk of radiation
exposure is lower than the chance of needing an abdominal x ray. Other precautions you should take
to avoid the scatter radiation is stand be hand a wall or lead barrier if using a wall mount machine, or
if using a hand help(nomad) x ray machine you should apply a lead apron to you and your patients. If
you are the patient and are getting the x ray, make sure you tell the dental team that you are or might

Yes, this may be partially true but it is also half false. The reason it is true is because if the x ray is of
certain areas it will not affect the baby. If it is of the pelvic or womb area, there will be a little bit of
radiation exposed to the fetus. Over a period like an assistant or doctor in this case could cause the
baby to be in harm s way. Also this could lead to several birth defects, disease, or potentially cancers
to the women and the child. These things are not always going to happen but the doctors always want

Susan B Anthony Dares To Compare And Contrast Essay
In the two stories, Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote and Don t give up the fight the theme is likewise.
The theme of the stories is being different. The reason the theme of the stories is being different is
because it clearly states that in both passages. In Don t Give Up the Fight Ava is the only girl on the
track team. Also in Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote, Susan wants to stand up for women s rights when
no one else does. The way the two passages are different are the characters. In the first passage Ava
lets people shoot her down at times and in the second passage, Susan B Anthony never lets anyone get

Examples Of New Historicism In Othello
New Historicism
When I did research on New Historicism I found that it is seen as is a school of literary theory and that
it was first developed in the 1980 s. Also when I looked for a definition for New Historicism I found
that it is seen as an expressive act that is embedded into a network that consists of material practices.
When we want to look for New Historicism in a novel or in a movie it is important to first have a look
at the author s biography as well as the social background and it is lastly important to look at the ideas
that was circulating the cultural era of that time as well.
New Historicism is also concerned with the political function of the literature as well as the concept of
power. In other words how they emerge, but it will tell us about the different ways of thinking at that
time.
In other words New Historicism is a literary theory that is based on the idea that literature should be
studied and interpreted within the context of both the history of the author and the history of the critic.
New Historicism is also often emphasized as the power struggle of all kinds, and that also includes the
power struggle in literary texts.

men have authority over women. In the novel it was also a fact in the men s eyes that the women

A True War Story In Tim OBrien s The Things They Carried
Only the dead have seen the end of war unknown. In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, he tells
us what a true war story is. Throughout chapter 7, he writes what he believes is a true war story. It s
through evil, disbelief, embarrassment, and hidden meanings in Mary Anne s trip to Vietnam that we
know what a true war story is. The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong is a perfect example of a true war
story. In a war, nothing ever hangs onto the good; it always grabs on to the evil.
Rat Kiley said, At the girl s throat was a necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow, like
pieces of blackened leather, the tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one tongue
overlapping the next, the tips curled upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable (105 106).
A young girl with a tongue necklace isn t the thing someone would expect to see from her. It s obscene
behavior for a girl, especially in this time period. Many people eat animal tongues; it isn t seen as
weird behavior, but Mary Anne wears them. The aspect of the human tongues makes it wicked and
vile. O Brien wrote, And then one morning, all alone, Mary Anne walked off into the mountains and
did not come back. No body was ever found (110). Mary Anne became one with Vietnam during the
time she was there. Eventually she blended in with the landscape and felt at home with it. Not often do
people hear stories of others just disappearing. It s insane to willingly walk out to the mountains in a

Literary Analysis of The Gift of the Magi
Literary Analysis of The Gift of the Magi The twists and turns of the plot as it unfolds within O.
Henry s The Gift of the Magi are what simply captivate the reader in such a short amount of pages.
The story of Jim and Della on a cold Christmas Eve at the turn of 20th century America is centered
around what is remarkably relevant to what many readers have experienced in their own lives; the
inevitable stresses, sacrifices, and joys of the holiday season. Strapped for cash and wanting to give
her beloved husband the most luxurious gift for Christmas to express her deep passion for him, we are
immediately introduced to the initial situation at hand. With only a dollar and some change to spend
on Jim, Della is forced into a situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conclusion to this story is the narrator s final paragraphs were he relates the couple to the Magi
and praises Jim and Della of being the wisest givers of all, contrary to popular belief. The comparison
O. Henry makes between the story of Jim and Della and that of the Magi is rather relevant as the Magi
were the ones who are credited with being the origins of the giving nature of the Christmas season. In
this story, we see a man and a woman so blinded by love that they are willing to make ultimate
sacrifices for the happiness of the other. Similar to the Magi, Della and Tim put each other before
themselves and through their generosity and considerable lengths they both went to achieve that
generosity is something more admirable than any materialistic gift they could ever offer each other,
thus making the uselessness of their gifts irrelevant. This story is a story that can touch any person that
has had to gone through a heavy sacrifice or gave up something they so covet in order to enlighten
someone else, especially during the holiday seasons. It is a short narrative that magnifies the
intangible value of sentimentality and belittles the importance of physical offerings. Jim and Della
equally appreciate the efforts each other made to make the other happy, despite

Cellulosic Ethanol Cons
It s not easy being green. This jeremiad of Kermit the Frog rings all too common in today s energy
production crisis. Now more than ever the US needs its energy to be derived from natural, renewable
resources. As George W Bush, an oil supporter, even stated, America is addicted to oil (Ratliff, 2012).
It s now become evident to those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be
able to sustain our nation unceasingly. Attempts at funding alternative energy sources have included
exploration of various types of ethanol sugar, corn and cellulose. Out of these three, the most
promising is the possibility of ethanol derived from cellulose. Cellulosic ethanol is a source of energy
from fibrous plant material that may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that they are natural,
renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would lower the US s dependence on
foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other countries, the US can reduce military spending that
is directed at maintaining oil supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal
matters. In addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars on the
road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change. Also, around the country
there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations. Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the
energy required to produce it. With more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using
less resources) and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other
expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions compared to oil.
Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and lessen global warming effects
(GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be
used, can even be subsidized to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a
landfill. By using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries will
not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would have been used for food
production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian, Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue
that it would require vast farming operations, meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of

INTRODUCTION:
The hypothalamo pituitary adrenocortical (HPA) axis is a critical adaptive system that maximizes

Taking a Look at Social Loafing
George (1996) stated that individuals who reduce effort when performing collectively than when
performing independently and where the individuals performance cannot be acknowledged as
excellent and important are called as social loafing (Joseph Timothy 2012). Social loafing is the
characteristic of individuals in a part of their academic life. It may be seen as a failure to willingly
satisfy the duties and commitments to others because of the perception of reduced social pressure. Yet,
social loafer or free rider without exerting effort in a team will gain benefits from the work of others
as the outcome of the team performance is shared by the team members (Weldon Mustari 1988, p. 33).
Many researchers study about how social loafing is affected by the duty and self discipline problems.
Robbins (1995, p.337) found out some explanations which are linked to Expectancy Values Theory to
interpret why social loafing happens in the workplace. This theory mentioned that the behaviour
human perform is guided by their values, beliefs and social circumstances (Shepperd Taylor 1999,
p.1148). It assumes that employees make choice according to their perception of their given behaviour
will come out with desired outcome that is value. When these three conditions are met, employees will
feel motivated and exert more effort in their team work (Eccles Wigfield, 2002, p. 120). For instance,

Full Metal Jacket Sparknotes
Being in the Military can be extremely hard on our military men and women, both mentally and
physical. I decided to write my paper based off Stanley Kubrick s film Full Metal Jacket starring
Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Vincent D Onofrio, Lee Ermey, Dorian Harewood, Arliss Howard,
Kevyn Howard, and Ed O Ross. Full Metal Jacket is a film that follows different recruits from basic
school at Marine Cops Recruit Depot Parris Island to the battle fields of Vietnam. The film starts off in
the barber shop on Parris Island as the new recruits get the heads shaved. The film then changes
scenes and continues with all the recruits standing in their barracks being addressed by the Drill
Instructor Gunny Hartman. Gunny Hartman tells the young recruits that if they are lucky enough to
finish his 13 week training, they will leave his island becoming a weapon, ministers of death praying
for war. Gunny Hartman continues to address his new recruits in more of a bullying concept telling
them that until that day they are pukes, lowest forms of life on earth, and that they are not even human
beings. After Gunny Hartman finished addressing the recruits he then turned his attention to singling
out several of the recruit s one being Private Lawrence. Gunny Hartman tell Private Lawrence that he

to like Bill Nye the Science Guy. Just think, as an educator, if you can teach your lesson while getting
the students hooked on the whole subject. I watched Bill Nye the Science Guy as a child and I believe
it was one of the few reasons why I was interested in science. When teaching third graders them
learning the material at hand is the key lesson, but it t not the final goal. Getting them interested and to

goal isn t to get them hooked on science but more to just teach them the lesson. One thing I ve noticed
when teaching an adult is that they become less interested with the teaching the more childish it is. So
basically, Bill Nye would not work. So I found another video online that would teach adults the

The T-34 Research Paper
The tank was one of the deadliest weapons in World War 2. Over 331,000 tanks were produced during
the war. Most of the countries fighting in the war had tanks, including the British, Americans,
Germans, and the Soviets. All of these countries had tanks that outperformed their other tanks, and
that outperformed the other countries tanks. One of these was the Soviet s T 34.
The T 34 was created to replace the BT series of fast, lightweight tanks. The Soviet realized the BT s
weakness in battle and requested its official replacement in 1937, two years before World War Two.
The T 34 became the most produced tank in the war and is considered to be one of the best tanks in
the war. Jason Belcourt, talking about the T 34, said In 1941 when Hitler launched Barbarossa, the
tank was indisputably the best in the world. The T 34 was able to stop the German advancement into
the Soviet Union and save the country. The T 34 had some flaws though. The sloping armor of the T
34 provided safety from the weak 40 mm guns of the Germans, but the armor made the quarters
cramped and the working conditions poor. To go along with the small size of the tank, the technology
was very outdated. To communicate with the other tanks, a flag system would have to be used. The

The Battle Of Luzon And The Pacific Theater
The Battle of Luzon, fought in the Pacific Theater in early 1945, is remembered as the World War Two
battle which had the highest net casualties. After Luzon, the largest island of the Philippines, was
captured by the Japanese in 1942, General MacArthur believed that it was extremely important to
recapture it. This took some time, but in 1944, a new campaign to recapture the Philippines was
created. The campaign started with attacks on Leyte and Mindoro, which prepared for Luzon. The US,

Although Allied troops encountered many Japanese kamikaze planes which destroyed some warships,
the Allied Air Force successfully supported their troops on the ground. While the Sixth Army landed
more troops on the beach, the I Corps protected them and advanced eastward, and the XIV Corps
moved south toward Manila. Because of central Luzon s geographical features mostly open plains the
XIV Corps was able to quickly advance toward Manila. Around this time, another amphibious landing
of the Eighth Army occurred to the south of Manila. From there, the 11th Airborne Division also
advanced on Manila. While the XIV Corps was advancing southward, the I Corps switched to
defending their left flank. Meanwhile, General Yamashita had his strongest forces deployed in north
Luzon and around the Clark Air Base. However, the Japanese were disorganized because of lack of
communications and were not prepared for many US attacks. On their southward journey, when the
XIV Corps reached Clark Air Base, they battled for control until it was captured on January 29, which
also gave the US more supplies found within the base. Following this, the XIV Corps pushed towards
Manila and started the attack on January 31 from the north and south of the city. On February 4th the
11th Airborne Division advanced into the city, but met strong Japanese defences. They pushed through
and finished capturing the defences on February 11th, and

How To Test Which Type Of Sunscreen Worked Better Than Lotion
The purpose of this experiment was to test which type of sunscreen worked better, spray or lotion. The
experiment was conducted by cutting a UV paper into squares and labeling each one with each of the
six sunscreen. A small amount of each sunscreen was applied to a square and was taken outside for
three minutes to be exposed to the sun. The UV squares were taken back inside to be soaked in water
for one minute each. The squares were left to dry for twenty four hours. Three trials were conducted
for each sunscreen. After the twenty four hours of drying time and for the results to fully come in,
immediately it was noticed that the lotions made the UV paper much lighter than the sprays. For all
three trials, sunscreen number two, made the UV paper the whitest, meaning it protected the UV paper
from sun exposure more.
It was already hypothesized that the lotion sunscreens would protect the UV paper more as all three
sunscreen lotions contained zinc oxide while none of the sprays contained this ingredient. Zinc oxide
is very helpful for sensitive skin when it comes to sun block and provides a broad spectrum sun
protection that helps prevent sunburns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One error that did occur was that the lotions were applied very unevenly. The lotions were applied
evenly throughout the UV square and was just left as a thick material in the middle of the square. A
paint brush or using an even smaller amount may have helped apply the products evenly across the
small square. Another error that may have occurred was that the spray was applied directly to the UV
squares. This resulted in uneven and patchy coverage. This uneven coverage could have affected the
results as only parts of the paper had sunscreen applied to it. This may not have occurred if the spray
sunscreen was first sprayed into a small container and applied with a fingertip or a paintbrush to the

Andy Warhol s Influence On The Pop Art Movement
Andy Warhol, born Andrew Warhola on August 6, 1928, was one of the most successful artists within

After graduating from college in 1949,with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Warhol moved to New York City

In September 1949, Warhol got a job working for Glamour magazine this is were he went on to
become a successful commercial artist of the time. He won many awards for his own unique blotted
line technique and rubber stamps.
In my opinion, Warhol s blotted line technique is unique and very different, as I have never seen this
technique been done before. The messy lines make the piece look vintage and disjointed. However,
you would imagine lines that aren t continues and blotted would look unprofessional, on the other

Irene Redfield and their struggles they face because of passing . Through Passing, Nella Larsen
demonstrates the challenges that the gender constructs during the time as women are powerless

Passing is the story about the life surrounds two main character, Clare Kendry and Irene Redfield but
it portrays them as powerless creatures that struggle in identify themselves in their own society. It also
portrays the picture of men as power creatures against women, as if they are the gender slave owners
where the women are the gender slaves. John Bellew is the perfect figure that is portrayed in this
story, symbolizing the power of the men in society. Clare Kendry, fearing that John might figure out
her original root, shrinks herself into a small creature, powerless, helpless against him. This situation
symbolizes the ideology in the family s structure of power in the society, where men are always in
charge of the house, and women have to follow what they said. When he came into the room during
the party, his greeting to Clare was, Hello, Nig (Larsen P1 3). Despite the fact that he didn t know
about Clare and her friends background, the greeting still heated up their anger. Even though it was
very offensive, Clare and her friends still could not do anything about it. This shows the power of John
over all the women, as the only man in the room. His power controls Clare in everything, where she
had to be careful what she did that include her racial root. Nella Larsen has portrayed the power that

Being A Bartender Research Paper
Bartending is a highly competitive career between young and old adults. Many college student rely on
being a bartender as their main source of income. In many ways, some might say I have the perfect
job. I succeed to work in an upbeat atmosphere, meet new people, and sample some treasured spirits.
Most of the time you can find me laughing with guests while mixing their favorite cocktails on the
menu. I play host to their party and gatekeeper to their alcohol. Some will try to make friends with me
in hopes of free drinks in the future. Although this may sound like the perfect career there are some
disadvantages. Before quitting your day job, here are a few points to consider. Some of the
disadvantages are working late hours, dealing with a stressful work environment, and inconsistent pay.
To begin, being a bartender will have you putting in the late night work hours. Being a night owl is an
understatement in this career. Many bars close in the early morning, and leave the bartender to clean

Flaws Of The Education System
Flaws in our Education Brent Staples wrote Why Colleges Shower Their Students with A s to show
the flaws in the education system with teachers giving unfair grades to students. Similarly, William
Zinsser wrote College Pressures to show how colleges are putting unnecessary stress on their students.
While it is important to draw attention to these problems, it is also necessary to find solutions as well.
Bringing the issues to the public knowledge is only the first step in correcting our flawed education
system. There are certain classes that are more common than others, specifically regarding the general
education classes such as English and math courses. However colleges also offer less common classes
that certain students may have an interest in. The problem with these smaller classes is that with the
poor attendance records, the classes could be cancelled as the college sees it as a waste of money; this
is one of many reasons why professors give out unearned A s (Staples 329). To fix this problem,
colleges should look not at the attendance sheet, but instead the overall GPA s of the students in the
class. This not only will show if the students who are going to the class are learning and
comprehending the material, but also can compare to the more popular classes with higher attendance
that may not have as good of grades. Another solution would be giving the class time to grow popular.
If a professor is teaching a new class for the

Analysis Of Nella Larson s Passing, And Amiri Baraka s...
Much of American Literature written in the 1900 s detail the experiences of race within America,
being that slavery had only recently been abolished. Society in no way viewed African American s as
equal to white American s. At this time, blacks were forced to fight to be viewed as a full person,
worthy of basic human rights. Nella Larson s Passing, and Amiri Baraka s The Dutchman, both call
attention to the racial tensions in a post Civil War America, by exposing the manipulation of the
endemic racism within our culture, and the effect that it has on the way the African American
community interacts within itself through the use of an extended metaphor.

grapples with embedded racism and self insecurity over his racial and cultural identity. Clay reveals to

Toxic Masculinity In Lord Of The Flies
Within Lord of the Flies, we see firsthand the violence and destruction that lies within humanity, and
boys in particular. Without society, they fell apart. They committed atrocities that go against every
rule, every social expectation, we see in humanity. Although Lord of the Flies shows important ideas
about boys place in society, it also allows the reader to form damaging views on ideas such as death,
violence, and conflict. When you hear the phrase toxic masculinity , it s usually used as a joke.
However, there s a reason that it s a concept. Toxic masculinity is a social science term used to
describe the phenomenon within a society where masculine traits, such as anger, violence, egotism,
contempt, aggression, as well as showing destructive or apathetic behavior, are rewarded. Normally,
these traits are regulated by law and society. When the boys are taken out of society, however, they
have no restraints, leading to the boys relying on these traits. In their minds, aggression and violence
are good; however, a successful society cannot be made from violence. Even societies such as Sparta
valued other traits: honesty, ambition, diligence, duty, strength, loyalty, and bravery. It wasn t just
violence; instead, they created a community of us against them , which may have lead to violence, but
it wasn t the founding value. In battle, they were told to come back with their shield or on it, which
shows the bravery needed to be a warrior and loyalty to the state. Mandatory education and martial
training emphasized duty and diligence. The boys had none of this. Their society was built on
violence, aggression, and disorder, with a survival of the fittest mentality. Of course, the way we raise
boys isn t going to lead to a healthy society. The characteristics we instill in male adolescents do
nothing to contribute to a positive society, and without order and regulations, these characteristics
create the opposite of a positive society. They create a breeding ground for anarchy, chaos, and
brutality, even to the point of sadism. Golding is trying to use this story to tell society that we can t
afford to promote such traits, that cruelty will only cause problems, that aggression will never lead to a

Dr. D Arcy s The Fate Of Irish Culture
By beginning the story with a broader canvas, Joyce was able to connect Gabriel s experience to the
context of Ireland and it s society at the time. His thoughts at the end can be understood in such a way
that they can resonate with the entire nation of Ireland instead of being left at the sadness of one man.
These thoughts are motivated by Mr. D Arcy s singing that evening, and to some level, Gabriel is
contemplating his own mortality. He is also analyzing the fate of Irish culture by identifying that it
must adapt in order to retain its relevance in a modernizing world despite the efforts of his aunts.
Joyce describes everything in great detail giving his characters, no matter how small of a role they
play, life and a story; this in turn gives the entire party an air of life and vibrancy. However, the party
takes place in a beyond thoroughly described, old house. Joyce shows off this house with every detail
of its ancient splendor seeming to push it even further into the past just to show that this way of life no
longer fits into the modern Irish society. The detail in which the feast is portrayed highlights how
important food and its traditionality is to Gabriel s aunts in their efforts to preserve the traditional Irish
culture.
Joyce uses subtle detailing to create Gabriel by intensely describing his appearance and observations.
Joyce begins by describing Gabriel s carefully protected patent leather shoes (para. 20) a trend from
the continent (para. 44) to show

Persuasive Essay On Laptops In Education
In today s day and age, technology surrounds us while we indulge in it. Technology is slowly taking
away the traditional methods of learning while we adapt to the contemporary methods. High Schools
now provide laptops for the students to use throughout the school year for note taking and research.
Although typing notes is fast and simple on a laptop, writing the notes forces you to slow down and
address the vital information. To start off, using a laptop in class will prevent you from learning. Many
people that use laptops in class to take notes are easily distracted by the worldwide web or social

doing on their laptops during class. A majority (64%) of the respondents reported using their laptops
during at least one class session. They reported using their laptops to take course notes (83.3%), send

An additional 35% reported using their laptops on other non course related activities (Fisher). This
study showed that the vast majority of people that used their laptop didn t not just take notes, they also
used it to browse the worldwide web. Some of those students that used their laptop to take notes didn t

Comparing Poems And Come Up From The Fields Father
1. Compare and contrast the role of nature and the natural world in two poems from this unit: Walt
Whitman s Come Up from the Fields Father and Sara Teasdale s There Will Come Soft Rains. Be sure
to use specific examples from both poems to support your response.
Answer: In the second stanza of Come Up from the Fields Father, the images are of fullness and
health, and they evoke a sense of pleasant peacefulness. For example, it says, Where the trees, deeper
green, yellower and redder/ Cool and sweeten Ohio s villages with leaves fluttering in the moderate
wind... In the first few stanzas of There Will Come soft Rains, the description of the rains as soft sets a
peaceful mood for the poem, as does the calling to mind the smell of wet soil. The image of the
swallows circling completes the tranquil mood. Teasdale continues to focus on the natural world,
unspoiled by human beings. The images here are all positive and the language is filled with
descriptions of a world that is both beautiful and untamed.

Analysis Of We Were Soldiers
Rachel Smith We Were Soldiers Film Analysis The film We Were Soldiers depicts the 1965 Battle of
Ia Drang in Vietnam. The film follows Lt. Col. Harold Moore and his men as they are send to fight at
the first major American battle in Vietnam. The film also shows the impact this battle had on the home
front and showed how the war impacted the soldier s wives waiting at home. The dramatization
attempts to show how the Americans were introduced to the Vietnam War and how they fought
viciously against an elusive, dedicated enemy. Director Randall Wallace uses the film to point out
characteristics of the Vietnam War. One thing he tries to focus on is that fact that the United States did
not realize the magnitude of the fight they were about to join. When they are first dropped in to the Ia
Drang valley they capture the NVA lookout and ask him where his men are. They are shocked to learn
that there are 4,000 NVA soldiers waiting for them in the mountains. The lookout also tells them that,
It s same army that destroyed French. They want to kill Americans very badly... but they have not been
able to find any yet. This quote shows that the NVAArmy has been fighting for much longer and are
more invested in the fight than the Americans were, something that was not clear to the original
American troops. There are also specific characteristic that the film tried to point out about Americas
war in Vietnam. One thing he tried to show is how young the troopers were. The film

The Safety Practices Of Motorcycle Accidents
Imagine the ripple effect created by losing a fellow service member, friend, or loved one due to a
motorcycle accident. Senior enlisted leaders should understand the significance of motorcycle
accidents because they have a large impact on all branches of the U.S. military. This paper will cover
the problem motorcycle accidents present to the military, discuss some of the safety practices currently
in place to reduce deaths related to motorcycle accidents, and make recommendations to help reduce
motorcycle accident deaths.
Problem
Motorcycle related deaths have a large impact on the U.S. military. The loss of a friend or loved one is
already significant, but the loss of a military member carries with it the loss of training, knowledge,
and manning to that community and branch of the military. It spans the entire service as shown when
the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) performed a burial at sea for the late Master Chief Sutton, who passed
away due to a motorcycle accident while stationed on board (Peak, 2016).
Motor vehicle accidents account for one third of the deaths among the U.S. military annually. From
1999 to 2012, there were 4,479 motor vehicle accident related deaths among members of the military,
with 25 percent attributable to motorcycle accidents (Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch,
2013). Over that period, non motorcycle motor vehicle accidents declined while motorcycle related
accidents steadily increased, accounting for a higher percentage of deaths in motor

Liturgical Dance In Modern Times

RESEARCH PAPER
Liturgical Dance (Ancient Times to the Modern Times)
In the world that we live in today there are many things that has been passed down from year to year.
In the years such as 1400 and 1440 B.C. dancing in which we refer to now as liturgical dancing was
first introduced. Liturgical dance has as its purpose the deepening and focusing of the worship
experience; it is not merely ornamental or decorative. (Branigan). Liturgical dance is a very uplifting
form of art; starting from the biblical times and even up until now. The history of liturgical dance
begins in the Bible. The Bible doesn t mention much about dance. But, it does mention dances of
celebration during two important historical events. The first event was the crossing of the Red Sea.
Miriam, prophetess and sister of Moses brought together several women in song and in praise after the
children of Israel crossed the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20, 21). The second event occurs when David
brings back the arc of the covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). Both major events showed the
significance of praise dancing in rejoicing and thankfulness for what the Lord have done, even for
your triumphs. (DavenPort). Although the times has changed, the style of liturgical dancing has
changed in some ways, but has also remained the same in other ways. There are many different
attributes that allows this form of art to be so uplifting. The types of attributes that causes this type of

Fundamental to democracy in the United States is the continued protection of our civil liberties and
civil rights. Civil liberties concern basic rights and freedoms that are implicitly or explicitly stated
either in the Bill of Rights, Constitution or legislature. Civil rights refer to legal protections that guard
against unequal treatment based on race, gender, disability and it is under these protections everyone
should receive equal treatment under the law. Unfortunately, there are times when preservation of our
rights and liberties is threatened for a number of reasons sometimes even due to to national security or
patriotism. When it comes to wearing our rights the majority of examples that I could find involved
wearing an item of clothing with words on it, which is enacting our freedom of speech which is a civil
liberty covered under the first amendment. Usually when enacting this specific civil liberty we are
doing it with words that relate to some specific type of inequality or injustice based on the
infringement of our civil rights. Examples include race, gender or disability.

out as fast as a bi weekly basis, putting pressure on the industry to sell fast and cheap to the consumer.
However, with the news publishing more articles about the working conditions in factories,
comparable to the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh, and the run off pollution these factories produce,
the consumer is demanding more transparency in the supply chain. The introduction to slow fashion
came from this demand of wanting a better understanding of the garments we wear, similar to the slow
food movement that surfaced from the fast food industry. The slow food movement began in Italy in
the 1980s as a reaction to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slowing down the consumption that is encouraged by fast fashion will help reduce raw materials and
decrease fashion production, allowing the earth time to regenerate and heal from the damage industry
creates to the environment (1B). Linda Greer, a senior scientist at the NRDC (Natural Resources
Defense Council, believes that the slow fashion movement will hold large retailers accountable for its
manufacturing aboard. Clean by Design is a program created by the NRDC that works with retailers to
green the fashion supply chain (4B). These types of programs will assist with the large companies
meeting the needs of the new movement of ethical consumerism where consumers are demanding that
the clothes they buy do not harm the environment or the workers who made them (11B, pg.200).
Another aspect of the slow fashion movement is supporting the development of local businesses by
focusing on using local resources and materials, these companies take the claim of slow and put it into
practice by creating high quality and durable pieces with attentiveness in an environmental way (1B).
Many small businesses keep traditional methods of garment and textile making, giving meaning to the
products and how they were made. (1B) Kate Fletcher, a design academic, explains, making a garment
last is very different to making a long lasting garment (3, pg. 227). Slow fashion pieces are to be worn
for a long time, creating emotional durability that leaves a personal

Vietnam War Swot Analysis
Introduction As the war between North and South Vietnam continued, countless lives were lost and
doubt grew among the American population, it was concluded that something must be done to prevent
further loss to the United States (US). Vietnam had become a stalemate and it was obvious that it was
time for the US to end its involvement in the action. The time came for a major operation that would
demonstrate the Army of the Republic of Vietnam s (ARVN) potential to defend their nation without
the aid of the US forces and advisors. They needed an operation that would boost the morale of the
South Vietnamese troops, and one that would ultimately give the US fighting forces the opportunity to
leave Vietnam. It was called Lam Son 719. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first objective on the way to Tchepone was A Loui, the intersection of Routes 9 and 92. The
ARVN 1st Airborne Division, with the 1st Armored Brigade attached to it, was to conduct the main
attack along Route 9 as far as A Loui. Phase two began at 0700 hours on February 8, 1971. US
helicopters of the 223rd and 158th Combat Aviation battalions left Khe Sanh packed with troops from
the RVN Airborne, 1st Infantry divisions and the 1st Rangers group. After landing, the rangers

The Twenty Thousand Dollar Death
There are numerous reasons that might have caused Willy Loman to end his life. In Arthur Miller s
play, Death of a Salesman, Loman is in conflict with his son, Biff Loman, his job as a salesman, and
himself. In the play Loman s job as a salesman no longer became beneficial to him and his family. As
time passed by, new ideas and younger salesmen began to take over the salesman industry, and Loman
was left behind. His wife, Linda, and he discuss all of the bills that have to be paid by the end of the
month, including their house payment. However, since Loman was taken off salary and is only on
commission, he is only bringing home seventy dollars a week. Loman s concern about their financial
status is displayed when he says to his wife Linda, A hundred and twenty dollars! My God, if business
don t pick up I don t know what I m gonna do (Miller 1490). Unfortunately, Loman and his wife Linda
have no support from their sons, Biff and Happy, since neither of them have a career. In addition to not
having a career, their relationship towards each other was not secure due to Loman s unfaithfulness.
Several years back into Loman s daily flashbacks, Biff found his dad with another woman in a hotel
during a trip in Boston. For all his life, Biff thought of his dad as a hero until he was proved wrong the
night at the hotel. Everything and everyone changed after that night. Biff gave up football and referred
to his dad as a, phony little fake (1542). Although, Biff and Loman

Symbolism Lord Of The Flies
William Golding s Lord of the Flies has many significant symbols that represent the emotions and
thoughts of the castaways in the novel. The meaning of the symbols change along with how the
characters think and act, starting as something innocent and turning dark and sinister. Three important
symbols within the novel are: the conch shell, the signal fire and the beast. The meaning of these
symbols are significantly impacted by the growth of savagery and loss of civilization on the island,
and the change in symbolism allows the reader to better understand the changes among the boys
throughout the novel. Near the beginning of the novel, readers are introduced to the conch shell. The
shell was found accidentally, but was seen as very valuable from the start. Most obscurely, yet most
powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that...was set apart (chapter 1, page 21). It
was used to congregate the castaways to meetings and designate who could speak; in short, the conch
represented order, civility, and authority among the characters. As the novel progresses, this symbol of
civilization loses its power. A majority of the castaways embrace savagery and turn away from order,
there are a few characters however, who remain faithful to the conch and its meaning. The meaning
changes from just a sign of order to a reminder of civilization and a way for characters to hold on to
reality. For example, Ralph, after admitting that he had joined in the

Similarities and Differences Between Stromatolites and...
Stromatolites and thrombolites are both organosedimentary structures that have fascinated scientists
and the general public for centuries but for as much as they are related or similar they each have
unique differences. The word stromatolite means layered rock ; it s a microbial structure that is created
by a layering of sediment that is cemented by abundant cyanobacteria colonies. A thrombolite was
named from the word thrombosis which means clots or clotting because they are not layered like
stromatolites but rather clustered. Stromatolites and thrombolites share similarities and differences in
their environmental triggers that instigate precipitate, their structures, and their formations.
Stromatolites and thrombolites are formed in very specific environments with very specific triggers
for their precipitates. Bodies of water that have developed high salinity (hypersaline) such as Hamelin
pool in Shark Bay Australia and Lee Stocking Island in the Bahamas are ideal environments for
stromatolites. Hamelin pool is twice as salty as the open ocean and this does not provide a suitable
living environment for snails or other organisms that would consume algae thereby leading to a
flourishing population of cyanobacteria. The cyanobacteria population started blooming with little
deterrence as far back as three and a half billion years ago as shown in fossil evidence. Although the
stromatolites in Hamelin pool are not nearly this ancient (they age at about three thousand years

Com470 Behaviors of E-Tailing
Behaviors of E Tailing Maximino Ruiz University of Phoenix Behaviors of E Tailing Technology
changes the way companies do business throughout the globe. At one period in history when a
technological change was introduced in an organization, it was a big deal because, unlike current
advancements, the changes were not made so frequently. Every day, upgrades and new products are
developed to make companies more efficient and productive. In the mid 1990s with the use of the
Internet, companies realized that more people would be spending his or her hard earned money online
than ever before. They could also foresee that the number of people and dollars would increase

When the consumer received this message, noise is reduced, thus increasing the chances of e
commerce because the consumer is already at the site for one product, but may leave with two. The
last behavior associated with e tailing would be the partnership potentially created after the purchase
has been made. Consumers who make purchases online want to know the full story about the product
or service and what he or she is involving themselves in. It is in the best interest of the e tailer to keep
their process simple and user friendly. Too many options and side pages keep consumers from doing
what companies need them to do, make purchases. E tailing allows companies to remain clean and
turn inventory over faster to make room for newer products. Customers dislike thinking they are
required to pay one amount, and after charges, taxes, and fees pay a different. Online companies that
inform their client base upfront about fees and charges have a better chance of keeping that business.
Finally, learning about the customer through the use of consumer behavior and traffic recognition
software enables the e tailer to understand what their customers are most interested in, and willing to
buy the most of. (ClickZ, 2011). The communication medium for this behavior begins when the
customer is sent a message to inform that individual of the company s gratitude for their business and

Thus they face more complex and changing environments where they operate and compete than other
industries. In order to survive and prosper, the essential is to take account of, and adapt to, fast
changing environmental conditions. To see and take advantage of marketing opportunities while at the
same time anticipating any threats to their business. By indentifying environmental trends soon
enough, management should be able, at least in part, to anticipate where such trends are leading and
what future conditions are likely to result from such changes. (Lancaster et al. 2002, Palmer 2008).

Companies are able to expand on several different platforms including nationally, internationally, online and many other ways. How companies are able to develop gives a good idea to how successful they will be in the long run. Describe two major ways in which a company can grow. Give examples to illustrate the two ways of growing. Companies are able to grow in many different ways. Two of those ways are international expansion and inorganic growth. With international expansion companies decide to move their companies to another country in hopes of breaking into the market in the host countries. • 5. Adversity in Life Elicits Unknown Talents and Strength Essay Who we really are, what our real character is only truly elicited when we are challenged, as a proverb states, In the darkest hour shines the brightest light. Our true character shines through when we are pushed to our extremes and are placed in situations outside of the norm. Horace claims that when someone is faced with an adversity or a challenge, they are more likely to discover talents that they thought they never had. I agree with his claim that adversity breeds talents and strengthens our character, but still understand the importance of prosperity in developing talents. The modern world has an abundance of prosperity; many countries are now affluent. In these prosperous circumstances talents stay hidden, but countries like Nepal, ... We had just reached the final of the tournament and with a big crowed at the pitch there was a lot of pressure, but that wasn t the challenge I would be facing. Just five minutes into the match I came under a harsh headed tackle from an opposition player and as a result I spilt my eyebrow open. • 6. Cheesecake Factory Analysis Theme Paper: The Anomaly that is The Cheesecake Factory The Cheesecake Factory is a name that rings familiar across America. Ranked the #1 casual dining chain, The Cheesecake Factory s affordable food and large portions appeal to the masses ( Consumer Picks 2016: Casual Dining Results ). A vivid portrait of American capitalism, The Cheesecake Factory has transformed its strange design concepts into an established theme, convinced its fans that its inexpensive style is that of luxury, and coaxed its customers into thinking that its menu choices are a blessing, not an inconvenience. It has twisted its incompetence into a competitive strategy a true deviant that still manages to be at the top of the ratings. The Cheesecake Factory is a true anomaly in the world no other restaurant has pulled this concept off on such a large scale. The restaurant industry stands in awe of the giant that has become The Cheesecake Factory. The Cheesecake Factory, according to its CEO David Overton, has broken all the rules in order to become successful ( 2017 Golden Chain Award Winner ). For example, their strategies go far beyond Porter s understood and standardized theories of low cost versus differentiation (Porter, 1980, 35 and 41). The Cheesecake Factory manages to provide apparently luxurious food to its customers for cheap, thereby both keeping its food low cost and differentiating their products. Instead of relying on one strategy to become successful, The Cheesecake Factory has the best combination of differentiators: its price and its quality. As a result, The Cheesecake Factory benefits from having the best of both of Porter s strategies for competitive advantage, thereby conferring upon itself a tremendous marketplace advantage (Hambrick and Fredrickson, 6). This multiunit restaurant chain s style has a bizarre combination of ancient Egypt with Victorian style architecture crossed with Las Vegas extravagance and giant leathery booths. The Cheesecake Factory chain became successful immediately at its start, and thus the design budget allocated to the future restaurants outweighed most normal restaurants of the same size. Regardless, this does not explain the off putting amalgamation of themes that this restaurant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With too much radiation to the unborn child it could cause organ dysfunction, growth development, and many other things. X rays are also safe when you follow the correct precautions. There are also a lot of reason why not to be around x rays when a woman is pregnant. With being the operator of the x ray you should only be pointed at your head and not your chest, organs, or even the fetus unless you get an abdominal x ray but even then the risk of radiation exposure is lower than the chance of needing an abdominal x ray. Also when I looked for a definition for New Historicism I found that it is seen as an expressive act that is embedded into a network that consists of material practices. When we want to look for New Historicism in a novel or in a movie it is important to first have a look at the author s biography as well as the social background and it is lastly important to look at the ideas that was circulating the cultural era of that time as well. • 10. A True War Story In Tim OBrien s The Things They Carried Only the dead have seen the end of war unknown. In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, he tells us what a true war story is. Throughout chapter 7, he writes what he believes is a true war story. It s through evil, disbelief, embarrassment, and hidden meanings in Mary Anne s trip to Vietnam that we know what a true war story is. The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong is a perfect example of a true war story. In a war, nothing ever hangs onto the good; it always grabs on to the evil. Rat Kiley said, At the girl s throat was a necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow, like pieces of blackened leather, the tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one tongue overlapping the next, the tips curled upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable (105 106). A young girl with a tongue necklace isn t the thing someone would expect to see from her. It s obscene behavior for a girl, especially in this time period. Many people eat animal tongues; it isn t seen as weird behavior, but Mary Anne wears them. The aspect of the human tongues makes it wicked and vile. O Brien wrote, And then one morning, all alone, Mary Anne walked off into the mountains and did not come back. No body was ever found (110). Mary Anne became one with Vietnam during the time she was there. Eventually she blended in with the landscape and felt at home with it. Not often do people hear stories of others just disappearing. Henry s The Gift of the Magi are what simply captivate the reader in such a short amount of pages. The story of Jim and Della on a cold Christmas Eve at the turn of 20th century America is centered around what is remarkably relevant to what many readers have experienced in their own lives; the inevitable stresses, sacrifices, and joys of the holiday season. The conclusion to this story is the narrator s final paragraphs were he relates the couple to the Magi and praises Jim and Della of being the wisest givers of all, contrary to popular belief. The comparison O. Henry makes between the story of Jim and Della and that of the Magi is rather relevant as the Magi were the ones who are credited with being the origins of the giving nature of the Christmas season. In this story, we see a man and a woman so blinded by love that they are willing to make ultimate sacrifices for the happiness of the other. Similar to the Magi, Della and Tim put each other before themselves and through their generosity and considerable lengths they both went to achieve that generosity is something more admirable than any materialistic gift they could ever offer each other, thus making the uselessness of their gifts irrelevant. This story is a story that can touch any person that has had to gone through a heavy sacrifice or gave up something they so covet in order to enlighten someone else, especially during the holiday seasons. It is a short narrative that magnifies the intangible value of sentimentality and belittles the importance of physical offerings. • 12. Cellulosic Ethanol Cons It s not easy being green. This jeremiad of Kermit the Frog rings all too common in today s energy production crisis. Now more than ever the US needs its energy to be derived from natural, renewable resources. As George W Bush, an oil supporter, even stated, America is addicted to oil (Ratliff, 2012). It s now become evident to those in authoritative roles in the American government that oil will not be able to sustain our nation unceasingly. Attempts at funding alternative energy sources have included exploration of various types of ethanol sugar, corn and cellulose. Out of these three, the most promising is the possibility of ethanol derived from cellulose. Cellulosic ethanol is a source of energy from fibrous plant material that may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The composition may pose a problem, but the components are also valuable in that they are natural, renewable resources. Using natural resources instead of oil would lower the US s dependence on foreign oil. By lowering our oil intake from other countries, the US can reduce military spending that is directed at maintaining oil supplies, and instead spend this money on other costs for internal matters. In addition, most infrastructure is already formed to adapt to this ethanol. Most cars on the road in the US are Fuel Flex capable, so it would pose no needed change. Also, around the country there are about 2000 E85 spots available at gas stations. Overall, its energy output is 2 to 36 times the energy required to produce it. With more energy output, there is less fuel needed to be created (using less resources) and consumers will be able to pay less at the pump and instead use it for other expenses. Most notable, is the fact that using ethanol reduces 85 94% of emissions compared to oil. Reducing emissions will in turn lower the greenhouse effect, and lessen global warming effects (GreenTheFuture). In general, this matter is low costing or free. Municipal solid waste, which can be used, can even be subsidized to take, since normally it would have to be paid for for its disposal in a landfill. By using non edible fuel crops and municipal solid waste, consumer prices for groceries will not be driven upward, unlike corn, which uses farmland that otherwise would have been used for food production. Thus, corn drives up the price of food (Christian, Jan. 5, 2015). While opponents argue that it would require vast farming operations, meaning clearcutting in some cases, acquisition of ... • 15. Taking a Look at Social Loafing George (1996) stated that individuals who reduce effort when performing collectively than when performing independently and where the individuals performance cannot be acknowledged as excellent and important are called as social loafing (Joseph Timothy 2012). Social loafing is the characteristic of individuals in a part of their academic life. It may be seen as a failure to willingly satisfy the duties and commitments to others because of the perception of reduced social pressure. Yet, social loafer or free rider without exerting effort in a team will gain benefits from the work of others as the outcome of the team performance is shared by the team members (Weldon Mustari 1988, p. 33). Many researchers study about how social loafing is affected by the duty and self discipline problems. Robbins (1995, p.337) found out some explanations which are linked to Expectancy Values Theory to interpret why social loafing happens in the workplace. This theory mentioned that the behaviour human perform is guided by their values, beliefs and social circumstances (Shepperd Taylor 1999, p.1148). It assumes that employees make choice according to their perception of their given behaviour will come out with desired outcome that is value. When these three conditions are met, employees will feel motivated and exert more effort in their team work (Eccles Wigfield, 2002, p. 120). Full Metal Jacket is a film that follows different recruits from basic school at Marine Cops Recruit Depot Parris Island to the battle fields of Vietnam. The film starts off in the barber shop on Parris Island as the new recruits get the heads shaved. The film then changes scenes and continues with all the recruits standing in their barracks being addressed by the Drill Instructor Gunny Hartman. Gunny Hartman tells the young recruits that if they are lucky enough to finish his 13 week training, they will leave his island becoming a weapon, ministers of death praying for war. Gunny Hartman continues to address his new recruits in more of a bullying concept telling them that until that day they are pukes, lowest forms of life on earth, and that they are not even human beings. After Gunny Hartman finished addressing the recruits he then turned his attention to singling out several of the recruit s one being Private Lawrence. My main goal for showing these third graders Bill Nye is to not teach them the Hydrologic Cycle, but more to get them to like Bill Nye the Science Guy. Just think, as an educator, if you can teach your lesson while getting the students hooked on the whole subject. The Soviet realized the BT s weakness in battle and requested its official replacement in 1937, two years before World War Two. The T 34 became the most produced tank in the war and is considered to be one of the best tanks in the war. Jason Belcourt, talking about the T 34, said In 1941 when Hitler launched Barbarossa, the tank was indisputably the best in the world. The T 34 was able to stop the German advancement into the Soviet Union and save the country. The T 34 had some flaws though. The sloping armor of the T 34 provided safety from the weak 40 mm guns of the Germans, but the armor made the quarters cramped and the working conditions poor. After Luzon, the largest island of the Philippines, was captured by the Japanese in 1942, General MacArthur believed that it was extremely important to recapture it. This took some time, but in 1944, a new campaign to recapture the Philippines was created. The campaign started with attacks on Leyte and Mindoro, which prepared for Luzon. While the Sixth Army landed more troops on the beach, the I Corps protected them and advanced eastward, and the XIV Corps moved south toward Manila. Because of central Luzon s geographical features mostly open plains the XIV Corps was able to quickly advance toward Manila. Around this time, another amphibious landing of the Eighth Army occurred to the south of Manila. From there, the 11th Airborne Division also advanced on Manila. While the XIV Corps was advancing southward, the I Corps switched to defending their left flank. Meanwhile, General Yamashita had his strongest forces deployed in north Luzon and around the Clark Air Base. However, the Japanese were disorganized because of lack of communications and were not prepared for many US attacks. On their southward journey, when the XIV Corps reached Clark Air Base, they battled for control until it was captured on January 29, which also gave the US more supplies found within the base. Following this, the XIV Corps pushed towards Manila and started the attack on January 31 from the north and south of the city. The experiment was conducted by cutting a UV paper into squares and labeling each one with each of the six sunscreen. A small amount of each sunscreen was applied to a square and was taken outside for three minutes to be exposed to the sun. The UV squares were taken back inside to be soaked in water for one minute each. The squares were left to dry for twenty four hours. Three trials were conducted for each sunscreen. After the twenty four hours of drying time and for the results to fully come in, immediately it was noticed that the lotions made the UV paper much lighter than the sprays. For all three trials, sunscreen number two, made the UV paper the whitest, meaning it protected the UV paper from sun exposure more. It was already hypothesized that the lotion sunscreens would protect the UV paper more as all three sunscreen lotions contained zinc oxide while none of the sprays contained this ingredient. Zinc oxide is very helpful for sensitive skin when it comes to sun block and provides a broad spectrum sun protection that helps prevent sunburns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flaws Of The Education System Flaws in our Education Brent Staples wrote Why Colleges Shower Their Students with A s to show the flaws in the education system with teachers giving unfair grades to students. Similarly, William Zinsser wrote College Pressures to show how colleges are putting unnecessary stress on their students. While it is important to draw attention to these problems, it is also necessary to find solutions as well. Bringing the issues to the public knowledge is only the first step in correcting our flawed education system. There are certain classes that are more common than others, specifically regarding the general education classes such as English and math courses. However colleges also offer less common classes that certain students may have an interest in. The problem with these smaller classes is that with the poor attendance records, the classes could be cancelled as the college sees it as a waste of money; this is one of many reasons why professors give out unearned A s (Staples 329). To fix this problem, colleges should look not at the attendance sheet, but instead the overall GPA s of the students in the class. This not only will show if the students who are going to the class are learning and comprehending the material, but also can compare to the more popular classes with higher attendance that may not have as good of grades. Another solution would be giving the class time to grow popular. If a professor is teaching a new class for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Without society, they fell apart. They committed atrocities that go against every rule, every social expectation, we see in humanity. Although Lord of the Flies shows important ideas about boys place in society, it also allows the reader to form damaging views on ideas such as death, violence, and conflict. When you hear the phrase toxic masculinity , it s usually used as a joke. However, there s a reason that it s a concept. Toxic masculinity is a social science term used to describe the phenomenon within a society where masculine traits, such as anger, violence, egotism, contempt, aggression, as well as showing destructive or apathetic behavior, are rewarded. Normally, these traits are regulated by law and society. When the boys are taken out of society, however, they have no restraints, leading to the boys relying on these traits. In their minds, aggression and violence are good; however, a successful society cannot be made from violence. Even societies such as Sparta valued other traits: honesty, ambition, diligence, duty, strength, loyalty, and bravery. It wasn t just violence; instead, they created a community of us against them , which may have lead to violence, but it wasn t the founding value. In battle, they were told to come back with their shield or on it, which shows the bravery needed to be a warrior and loyalty to the state. Mandatory education and martial training emphasized duty and diligence. The boys had none of this. Their society was built on violence, aggression, and disorder, with a survival of the fittest mentality. Of course, the way we raise boys isn t going to lead to a healthy society. The characteristics we instill in male adolescents do nothing to contribute to a positive society, and without order and regulations, these characteristics create the opposite of a positive society. They create a breeding ground for anarchy, chaos, and brutality, even to the point of sadism. His thoughts at the end can be understood in such a way that they can resonate with the entire nation of Ireland instead of being left at the sadness of one man. These thoughts are motivated by Mr. D Arcy s singing that evening, and to some level, Gabriel is contemplating his own mortality. He is also analyzing the fate of Irish culture by identifying that it must adapt in order to retain its relevance in a modernizing world despite the efforts of his aunts. Joyce describes everything in great detail giving his characters, no matter how small of a role they play, life and a story; this in turn gives the entire party an air of life and vibrancy. However, the party takes place in a beyond thoroughly described, old house. Joyce shows off this house with every detail of its ancient splendor seeming to push it even further into the past just to show that this way of life no longer fits into the modern Irish society. The detail in which the feast is portrayed highlights how important food and its traditionality is to Gabriel s aunts in their efforts to preserve the traditional Irish culture. Harold Moore and his men as they are send to fight at the first major American battle in Vietnam. The film also shows the impact this battle had on the home front and showed how the war impacted the soldier s wives waiting at home. The dramatization attempts to show how the Americans were introduced to the Vietnam War and how they fought viciously against an elusive, dedicated enemy. Director Randall Wallace uses the film to point out characteristics of the Vietnam War. One thing he tries to focus on is that fact that the United States did not realize the magnitude of the fight they were about to join. When they are first dropped in to the Ia Drang valley they capture the NVA lookout and ask him where his men are. They are shocked to learn that there are 4,000 NVA soldiers waiting for them in the mountains. The lookout also tells them that, It s same army that destroyed French. They want to kill Americans very badly... but they have not been able to find any yet. This quote shows that the NVAArmy has been fighting for much longer and are more invested in the fight than the Americans were, something that was not clear to the original American troops. FOWLER RESEARCH PAPER Liturgical Dance (Ancient Times to the Modern Times) In the world that we live in today there are many things that has been passed down from year to year. In the years such as 1400 and 1440 B.C. dancing in which we refer to now as liturgical dancing was first introduced. Liturgical dance has as its purpose the deepening and focusing of the worship experience; it is not merely ornamental or decorative. (Branigan). Liturgical dance is a very uplifting form of art; starting from the biblical times and even up until now. The history of liturgical dance begins in the Bible. The Bible doesn t mention much about dance. But, it does mention dances of celebration during two important historical events. The first event was the crossing of the Red Sea. Miriam, prophetess and sister of Moses brought together several women in song and in praise after the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20, 21). The second event occurs when David brings back the arc of the covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6). Both major events showed the significance of praise dancing in rejoicing and thankfulness for what the Lord have done, even for your triumphs. (DavenPort). Although the times has changed, the style of liturgical dancing has changed in some ways, but has also remained the same in other ways. The Importance Of Civil Rights WEAR YOUR RIGHTS , is the title of an icon on the American Civil Liberties Union website where with one click you can be redirected to the ACLU s store, to purchase any number of wearable items to aid you in speaking out about your rights (ACLU 2017). In addition to the store the ACLU has a whole page dedicated to knowing your rights and speaking out with the use of clothing and swag. Fundamental to democracy in the United States is the continued protection of our civil liberties and civil rights. Civil liberties concern basic rights and freedoms that are implicitly or explicitly stated either in the Bill of Rights, Constitution or legislature. Civil rights refer to legal protections that guard against unequal treatment based on race, gender, disability and it is under these protections everyone should receive equal treatment under the law. Unfortunately, there are times when preservation of our rights and liberties is threatened for a number of reasons sometimes even due to to national security or patriotism. When it comes to wearing our rights the majority of examples that I could find involved wearing an item of clothing with words on it, which is enacting our freedom of speech which is a civil liberty covered under the first amendment. Usually when enacting this specific civil liberty we are doing it with words that relate to some specific type of inequality or injustice based on the infringement of our civil rights. Examples include race, gender or disability. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Fast Fashion On Fast Food Industry Slow Fashion Fast fashion is a force that needs constant change from retailers; new garments and new trends cycle out as fast as a bi weekly basis, putting pressure on the industry to sell fast and cheap to the consumer. However, with the news publishing more articles about the working conditions in factories, comparable to the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh, and the run off pollution these factories produce, the consumer is demanding more transparency in the supply chain. The introduction to slow fashion came from this demand of wanting a better understanding of the garments we wear, similar to the slow food movement that surfaced from the fast food industry. The slow food movement began in Italy in the 1980s as a reaction to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slowing down the consumption that is encouraged by fast fashion will help reduce raw materials and decrease fashion production, allowing the earth time to regenerate and heal from the damage industry creates to the environment (1B). Linda Greer, a senior scientist at the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council, believes that the slow fashion movement will hold large retailers accountable for its manufacturing aboard. Clean by Design is a program created by the NRDC that works with retailers to green the fashion supply chain (4B). These types of programs will assist with the large companies meeting the needs of the new movement of ethical consumerism where consumers are demanding that the clothes they buy do not harm the environment or the workers who made them (11B, pg.200). Another aspect of the slow fashion movement is supporting the development of local businesses by focusing on using local resources and materials, these companies take the claim of slow and put it into practice by creating high quality and durable pieces with attentiveness in an environmental way (1B). Many small businesses keep traditional methods of garment and textile making, giving meaning to the products and how they were made. Vietnam War Swot Analysis Introduction As the war between North and South Vietnam continued, countless lives were lost and doubt grew among the American population, it was concluded that something must be done to prevent further loss to the United States (US). Vietnam had become a stalemate and it was obvious that it was time for the US to end its involvement in the action. The time came for a major operation that would demonstrate the Army of the Republic of Vietnam s (ARVN) potential to defend their nation without the aid of the US forces and advisors. • 45. Symbolism Lord Of The Flies William Golding s Lord of the Flies has many significant symbols that represent the emotions and thoughts of the castaways in the novel. The meaning of the symbols change along with how the characters think and act, starting as something innocent and turning dark and sinister. Three important symbols within the novel are: the conch shell, the signal fire and the beast. The meaning of these symbols are significantly impacted by the growth of savagery and loss of civilization on the island, and the change in symbolism allows the reader to better understand the changes among the boys throughout the novel. Near the beginning of the novel, readers are introduced to the conch shell. The shell was found accidentally, but was seen as very valuable from the start. Most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that...was set apart (chapter 1, page 21). It was used to congregate the castaways to meetings and designate who could speak; in short, the conch represented order, civility, and authority among the characters. As the novel progresses, this symbol of civilization loses its power. A majority of the castaways embrace savagery and turn away from order, there are a few characters however, who remain faithful to the conch and its meaning. The meaning changes from just a sign of order to a reminder of civilization and a way for characters to hold on to reality. For example, Ralph, after admitting that he had joined in the ... Stromatolites and thrombolites are both organosedimentary structures that have fascinated scientists and the general public for centuries but for as much as they are related or similar they each have unique differences. The word stromatolite means layered rock ; it s a microbial structure that is created by a layering of sediment that is cemented by abundant cyanobacteria colonies. A thrombolite was named from the word thrombosis which means clots or clotting because they are not layered like stromatolites but rather clustered. Stromatolites and thrombolites share similarities and differences in their environmental triggers that instigate precipitate, their structures, and their formations. Stromatolites and thrombolites are formed in very specific environments with very specific triggers for their precipitates. Bodies of water that have developed high salinity (hypersaline) such as Hamelin pool in Shark Bay Australia and Lee Stocking Island in the Bahamas are ideal environments for stromatolites. Hamelin pool is twice as salty as the open ocean and this does not provide a suitable living environment for snails or other organisms that would consume algae thereby leading to a flourishing population of cyanobacteria. The cyanobacteria population started blooming with little deterrence as far back as three and a half billion years ago as shown in fossil evidence. Although the stromatolites in Hamelin pool are not nearly this ancient (they age at about three thousand years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Customers dislike thinking they are required to pay one amount, and after charges, taxes, and fees pay a different. Online companies that inform their client base upfront about fees and charges have a better chance of keeping that business. Finally, learning about the customer through the use of consumer behavior and traffic recognition software enables the e tailer to understand what their customers are most interested in, and willing to buy the most of.
