Why Do Some Children have Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and Some...
For many years the questions has been raised as to why not all children are affected by Foetal Alcohol
Syndrome even if the mother was drinking alcohol during her pregnancy. The theory that genetics
plays a role in whether a child will have FAS first came about through studying twins. In a sample size
16 sets of twins, which were all exposed to alcohol while in the uterus, out of the 5 sets of identical
twins, in each set both children were affected by FAS. Out of the 11 sets of fraternal twins, 4 sets had
the same out come as the identical twins, while in the other 7 sets only one child per set was affect by
FAS. Through this research it can therefore be understood that it was the difference in DNA of the
fraternal twins that lead to only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another area of study is that if the mother has both or one of the alleles ADH1B*2 and ADH1B*3 her
child is protected from FAS. ADH1B*2 and ADH1B*3 are polymorphisms of ADH1B which comes
from the alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), which is a catalyzing enzyme involved with the oxidation of
ethanol. These alleles code for enzymes that cause oxidation of ethanol to occur at a much faster rate
than usual. By having a faster oxidation rate alcohol will be metabolized and detoxified sooner. The
alcohol consumed goes into your blood stream and is spread through the body, which could have a
teratogenic effect on the foetus, until the alcohol has been completely metabolized. Therefore the
faster the alcohol can be metabolized the less chance there is of it getting to the placenta and therefore
into the foetus bloodstream. Due to the fact that the alcohol won t be able to get to the foetus because
it oxidised much quicker, the foetus is protected from the effects of the alcohol which lead to FAS.
The most recent discovery to provide evidence that genetics is a contributing factor to the
development of FAS is the discovery of the exact locus that controls the alcohol sensitivity of the L1
protein. L1 is an essential part of the neural development of foetuses. It is located on the outside of
cells and is important to the joining of cells as well as axon control and movement of cells.
Phosphorylation, controlled by the enzyme ERK2, occurred inside the L1

Analysis Of Meditation 17 By John Donne
Meditation 17 is a poem by John Donne that reveals his thoughts and beliefs on the world altogether.
We see a lot of religion cited in this poem and then we also see a kind of dark side of that which would
be death. In this poem, John Donne elevates this poem by the way he structures it as well as the
language and situation. The language is so important to understand because it can convey a message
that is deeper than just the words. We see a lot of words that very common in this poem however, they
are placed in a unique way that most likely someone will have to go back and reread to grasp what is
being said. There are many metaphors, analogies and personification used throughout the poem. I
believe John Donne does this so that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I see John Donne doing the same thing in this poem, the tone is somewhat straight forward and
serious, with the narrator having a down speaking tone and somewhat apathetic to the things being
conveyed in this poem. And when she buries a man, that action concerns me this is an indicator of the
tone being used once again. It is clear that the line is speaking about death, it is pretty common that
death is taking seriously and in which we would be serious when speaking on it. John Donne also uses
alliterations throughout this poem along with repetition. congregation to come , the church is catholic ,
are examples of alliteration he used. the action concerns me , for whom this bell tolls are used as
repetition. All of these examples are used to help remind the reader what exactly they are reading and
gathering from the poem. I think that these all lighten the mood of the poem so it s not total darkness.
The structure stands out to me mainly in the fact that there are no stanzas nor paragraph indentions.
The poem is a single paragraph, I believe he kept it this way because he states that all mankind is of
one author and is one volume . Also, this single paragraph poem could be seen as an essay. When I
think of an essay, they have

The Importance of Friendship in in Elizabeth Wein’s book,...
KISS ME, HARDY! Kiss me, QUICK! Turned her face away from me to make it easier. And I shot
her (Wein 285), desperately yelled Jullie in Elizabeth Wein s book, Code Name Verity. Throughout
this tale of two female companions in World War II, the theme of friendship was portrayed through the
bond between Maddie and Julie, the alliances with those around them, and the events that tie these two
together. Firstly, the theme of friendship in the novel was shown through unbreakable bond of the
protagonists. They had connected instantly upon working together at Maidsend Airfield in England.
Together, the team used Maddie s directional skills and Julie s ability to speak multiple languages to
navigate a lost airplane (Wein 43). This had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of which were created from the beginning. For example, Dympna Wythenshawe was a female
pilot that crashed in Stockport, Maddie s home town, and received help from Maddie (Wein 13). To
her express gratitude, she managed to enroll Maddie in flight training and get her involved with
Maidsend. With help from Dympna, Maddie was able to begin her career as a pilot. Another official
had pulled strings so that she could be where she was as a ATA pilot, as a woman being paid to do a
man s job. Although his name was not mentioned, Maddie referred to him as John Balliol. John was
there for Maddie and Julie both. He protected them from punishment, recommended them for higher
positions, and even accepted Jamie after Maddie had recruited him. Jamie was Julie s brother and
Maddie s close friend and fellow pilot. He was there to lend a hand to the two girls whenever he
could. While doing so, he welcomed Maddie into the Beaufort Stuart home at Craig Castle.
Throughout the plot, he was there for Maddie when Julie was not. Now stop. You go back to Ormaie
and look after Verity. I know he is deas sick with worry abour her too and was being brave to make me
brave, so I nodded. He wiped my cheeks with his thumbs (Wein 244). Jamie comforted and supported
Maddie while Julie was in the hands of Hamptsturmfuhrer von Linen. In addition to the friends at
Maidsend, Anna Engel was yet another one of Maddie s and Julie s companions. Anna was

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biometrics Security System
Although, there are lots of benefits of biometrics security system, it really has many flaws in its
system. Each biometrics application method has weaknesses which could cause problems because of
its users. For instance, if the biometrics security system uses fingerprints to identify its users and an
incident causes the person to cut his/her finger then it can be a problem throughout the verification
process. For voice recognition methods, illnesses such as strep throat will make it hard for authorized
users to obtain access to their information. Another factor that will influence voice recognition
systems is the continuous aging of its users. Noise in an environment where voice recognition is used
to identify its users can also allow it to be hard for users to be identified.
For iris or retinal scanning applications, users might find it very intrusive. Users might also have the
concern for the safety of the eyes throughout the iris or retinal scan. Furthermore, databases used to
store user identification data will soon be very large which might form a potential threat. For scanning
retinal/iris characteristics and storing wide range of database, biometrics system requires new and
modern technology. Therefore, the price for equipment can also be expensive. Finally, a lot of people
remain concerned about biometrics technology in different aspects such as: security, adaptability to
rate of change in life, scalability, accuracy, privacy and others. Moreover, reading accuracy

Fur Persuasive Speech
Topic: Wearing fur is not ethical
Opening/Attention:
While wearing fur clothing in cold weather as protection goes back to the stone age, the source for this
material came from the wild. Starting in the latter half of the 20th century, producers and wearers of
fur have been criticized by animal rights activists because of the perceived cruelty they believe is
involved in animal trapping and because of the availability of substitutes such as synthetic fibers.
As fur is no longer necessity why should animals suffer to no purpose?

into uniform slugs should be used. Once slugs are produced they are reduced to appropriate granule

Erik Erikson s Developmental Theory Essay
Firstname Lastname Instructor s Name Course Number Date Erik Erikson Developmental Theory Erik
Erikson is a famous German born American psychologist, who developed his own psychoanalytical
developmental theory. This developmental theory was aimed to identify the steps a developing human
should to pass from infancy to adulthood. Erikson identified eight steps of the psychological
development. The ideas of Erikson were heavily influenced by an Austrian psychologist Sigmund
Freud, who also analyzed the human psychological development and identified psychosexual stages of
development. However, Erikson did not emphasize the predominant role of sexual development in
psychological development. He argued that the role of culture and society on a human was the most
significant factor which through the evolution separated human psychological development from the
development of animals. Erikson writes that there are conflicts which take place within ego and they
are usually caused by external factors (society, culture, etc.) Thus, according to Erikson, a human
successfully completes the stage when he resolves the main conflict within his ego. (McLeod) Erikson
develops his ideas basing on the idea that biological and social nature coexist in each person and each
psychological crisis at the end of each life stage reveals a conflict between social and biological forces
of a human. Reconciliation of these two identities leads to the harmonious psychological development.

My Pre Conference With Mrs. Andruska
The purpose of my pre conference with Mrs. Andruska was to establish a rapport with her, to learn
about her teaching style, procedures, and upcoming lesson, and to collaboratively set a goal for the
lesson I would be observing.
When asking my first questions to Mrs. Andruska in our pre conference, it became clear that she
prides herself on providing highly effective instruction for all of her students. I asked her about the
areas of her instruction that she takes pride in, and where she believes her biggest strengths are. She
explained that she prides herself on incorporating a variety of music education methodologies into her
teaching. These methodologies include Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroz, all of which Mrs. Andruska has
studied and obtained certifications in. Her attention to detail in her lesson design, preparation, and
organization was evident when discussing the lesson I would be observing.
I asked Mrs. Andruska the following questions in an attempt to learn more about any instructional
challenges she is facing in her classroom:
How have things been going in your classroom?
Can you tell me about some areas that you are finding success?
My goal is to offer you guidance that will help your teaching to improve. Are there any areas you feel
we should focus on?

The Detrimental Effects of Concussions
In recent years concussions have become more and more of a topic due to their effects on the people
who receives them. Concussions can cause a multitude of problems for a person later in their life
whether they suffered from a major concussion or just a minor concussion. These problems can occur
if a person ended up with multiple concussions over a lifetime or if they only have had one single
concussion The problems a person can encounter are all somewhat connected but very diverse at the
same time. Most of the problems a person will encounter will be due to a change in that person s brain
but they can range from simple memory problems to suicidal problems.
The problem with concussions are that not everybody takes them serious enough. Some people like
football players will just blow it off. After taking a big hit and barely being able to get to the sidelines
they will be right back in the game on the next possession. Others like coaches might not take a player
s concussion serious because they know without that player they might not be able to win thus putting
the players long term health into effect. Concussions are very devastating and cause many people
future problems no matter what some doctors say.
The brain is an organ that is essential to everything people do. Whether it is remembering something
or just talking to someone the brain is in charge of it. So when a person takes a blow to the head or
body the brain shakes inside of the skull and they can have a

The Impact of Terrorism on Immigration
Always on the lookout for opportunities to press their case, anti immigration advocates lost no time
after the attacks of September 11. As one of them pointed out in testimony before the Senate,
It seems clear that the 19 terrorists of September 11 were all foreign citizens and entered the United
States legally, as tourists, business travelers, or students. This was also true of the perpetrators of
previous terrorist acts . . . While it is absolutely essential that we not scapegoat immigrants, especially

residents not to seek revenge on Arabs or Muslims. Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the

Even as he announced a crackdown on illegal immigration and tightened visa procedures, President
Bush made the same distinction: We welcome legal immigrants but we don t welcome people who
come to hurt Americans. However, measures undertaken to enhance security by tightening admission
procedures as well as to search for the enemy within led to the targeting of Muslims and Middle
Easterners, broadly speaking. Moreover, the U.S. refugee resettlement program ground to a halt,
leaving thousands of refugees overseas in dangerous limbo, straining the limited resources of agencies
that resettle them, and exacerbating the decline in annual U.S. refugee admissions for yet another year.

The Use of Humor in Richard Iii by Shakespeare
The Use of Humor in Richard III
There is no doubt that Shakespeare was the author of great pieces of literature during an interesting
time period. Given the circumstances, he was indeed mastering his craft during a very tumultuous
juncture in British history. When one reads Richard III, they don t necessarily have to know a great
deal about the War of Roses to understand that there is some serious strife going on. However, if the
reader takes some time to understand this fascinating string of events, the story of Richard and his fall
becomes much more interesting. In all of his brilliance, Shakespeare manages to toy with the idea of
humor in this very morose play. As a matter of fact, he does this in many, if not all of his tragedies. ...

However, the dialogue picks up again, and the bitterness continues. After she exits, they all talk to
each other, pretty much asking, what the heck was that all about?
The next scene also has some prime examples of humor in this play. Here, two murderers are sent to
kill Clarence. The text is so rich in indirectly describing the demeanor of these two, and the reader
undoubtedly chuckles when reading the dialogue between the two of them. Primarily, the reader sees
this in lines 110 115: I ll go back to the duke of Gloucester and tell him so. / Please, just wait a minute.
I m hoping my holy mood will pass. / It usually only lasts about twenty seconds. / How are you
feeling now? / Actually, I m still feeling some pangs of conscience. / Even in modern times, the idea
of a conscience coming and going instead of being unwavering is funny. Even funnier is the thief
being aware of this, and saying, hang on, it ll pass , as if his holy conscience were a case of bad gas or
something like that. Further on, the two murderers talk about conscience, and how nobody would
listen to it even if it flew out of a wallet.
Of course, no Shakespeare play would be complete without the use of puns. Shakespeare uses this
type of humor as a witty way to keep the dialogue fresh and flowing. The reader gets a taste of these
funny little bits as early as the first act and first scene, when Brakenbury starts, With this, my lord,
myself have naught to

LM2907/LM2917 Frequency to Voltage Converter June 2000 LM2907/LM2917 Frequency to Voltage
Converter General Description The LM2907, LM2917 series are monolithic frequency to voltage
converters with a high gain op amp/comparator designed to operate a relay, lamp, or other load when
the input frequency reaches or exceeds a selected rate. The tachometer uses a charge pump technique
and offers frequency doubling for low ripple, full input protection in two versions (LM2907 8,
LM2917 8) and its output swings to ground for a zero frequency input. The op amp/comparator is
fully compatible with the tachometer and has a floating transistor as its output. This feature allows
either a ground or supply referred load of up to 50 mA. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An Analysis Of Some Lessons From The Assembly Line
In his article, Some Lessons From The Assembly Line Braaksma (2005) asserts that the typical
college student feels that their college education should be tailored to their sensibilities for scheduling
as well as the expectation of outputs. Not knowing how easily one s fortunes can be reversed,
Braaksma s peers moved through their education with the belief they were above the daily struggles
commonly seen in the blue collar workforce. Instead of learning the value of hard work, the modern
attitude seems to be one of entitlement of all things with little to no effort. One almost gets the sense
that the work ethic of today s youth has suffered due to the relative ease required to perform most
summer or part time jobs. The main theme of the article, that a strong work ethic is an asset to future
endeavors, is persuasive because it highlights the importance of an understanding of the intrinsic value
of an education, comprehension of the uncertainty the job market, and the satisfaction of a job well
done.
Work as if you have everything to lose
Andrew Braaksma (2005) begins the article by clearly stating that Sweating away my summers as a
factory worker makes me more than happy to hit the books . Drawing from his personal experiences,
Braaksma (2005) sketches out what it meant for him to genuinely understand underlying value of a
college education. Working in a variety of factory jobs during his summer breaks, he passes on the
insight he gained along the way during the

How To Make A Hand Leverr Essay
Only when the hand lever is all the way forward can the car be placed into second gear. The procedure
for getting into second gear is to first start moving forward in first gear. Make sure the hand lever is
halfway forward, speed the engine up a bit and slowly but firmly press the clutch pedal down. The car
will start moving forward and as it does, increase the engine speed to a good clip and then bring the
clutch pedal halfway back into the neutral position. You will notice that the engine will race a bit so
push the throttle forward and slow the engine down. Now with the clutch pedal halfway out, release
the hand lever and push it all the way forward. Slowly let the clutch pedal all the way out and now you
are in second gear. Pull the throttle lever back and as the engine speeds up so will your car.

The T doesn t have power assist for the brakes or steering. But, on the bright side, have you ever had a
modern car die or stall and try to use the brakes or turn the steering. It is almost impossible and has
cause many wrecks. Well the Model T never gets harder to steer or stop with the motor off. You still
have complete control. You will learn very quickly that the steering is much easier when the car is
moving and unlike a modern car, you don t have to turn the wheels before you start to pull out of a
tight spot because you will find that the T makes a much quicker turn because of it s short body
length. Some Model Ts on rare occasions when you go into a slow turn, will start a shimmy or front
wheel wobble. It is not anything to be afraid or but can be a bit of a shock the first time you
experience it. Just slow down sometimes almost to a stop and it will go away, then proceed as normal.
If it occurs often and persistent, then the front end of the T needs to checked for loose bushings or

Abstract: A bomb calorimeter with the Parr design was used for the apparatus, which would lead to an
experiment to measure temperature in degrees Celsius as time increased. Two different sample pellets
were used, one being benzoic acid while the other was naphthalene. These measured findings were
then used to determine the change in temperature for each experiment, which for benzoic acid...
Introduction:
The purpose of this experiment is to use a high pressure cell calorimeter in order to determine the heat
of combustion for naphthalene and benzoic acid, which are an organic substance. To ensure that heat
wouldn t be leaked out of or into the pail an adiabatic jacket was used. This jacket allows for the
system to match the temperature of the water and the high pressured calorimeter (bomb). The reaction
that will occur inside of the bomb will be held at constant pressure and constant temperature. ... Show

The computers data will show a clear measurement of the temperature in Celsius vs. Seconds. When
dealing with thermodynamics the most useful data collected are the heats of formation of the
compounds used. While trying to measure these quantities, it s especially important to be precise and
at the same time accurate to yield a more promising answer. Measuring the heat of combustion for a
more common compound along with the hydrocarbons in benzoic acid is the best combination when
trying to compare the two. To get a visual refer to (Figure: 1) to understand the set up of the apparatus.

All Quiet On The Western Front Nature Analysis
Gaby Rizk
Mrs. Trimble
ELA 20F/10 2
27 October, 2016
Comfort in Nature In the horrible first war, soldiers often found peace and comfort in nature. In Erich
Maria Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front many soldiers are often drawn to nature to
provide comfort and peace. Young Paul Baumer, the central character in the novel, frequently looks to
nature for comfort in the midst of the war going on around him. Remarque reveals in this novel that it
is possible to make a connection to something so pure while in the midst of something horrific and
unnatural like war. Paul experiences the death of his close friend (Keimmerich), but in nature, he finds
comfort and is empowered. This is shown when Paul states, I breathe as deep as I can, and feel the
breeze in my face, warm and soft as never before (33). This passage shows how Paul looks to nature
for comfort in times where he is sad or angry. Instead of thinking about his comrade s death, he goes
outside and enjoys the nature around him. As a result of this he is no longer sad about his comrade s
death. Another passage that shows how he becomes empowered through nature is, The earth is
streaming with forces which pour into me through the soles of my feet (33). Here it is shown to the
reader just how much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This connection is revealed in the novel through the character of Paul Baumer. From the earth, from
the air, sustaining forces pour into us mostly from the earth. To no man does the earth mean so much
as to the soldier (55). Paul explains how much the earth and the connection to earth means to the
soldier in war in this passage. In a greater sense, nature can be used to comfort people in the real
world because of its elements; the sounds that are heard, the things that can be seen and other things in
nature. In conclusion, nature really is

Comparing Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride...
Compare and contrast the presentation of love and marriage in A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride
and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby.
The main theme which brings A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride and Prejudice and The Great
Gatsby together is the idea of how love and marriage is presented. Shakespeare, F. Scott Fitzgerald
and Austen all portray love and marriage as being two separate issues, which rarely intertwine. The
different contexts in which these texts are written have all had a huge impact on the way in which love
and marriage is portrayed. The Great Gatsby was set in the roaring twenties, a time where people
enjoyed wealth and artistic innovation. Pride and Prejudice was set in the early 19th century, a time
when wealth and marriage were hugely important. A Midsummer Night s Dream was written between
1590 and 1596, which is a comedic, light hearted play and focuses on marriage.
In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, marriage is a significant issue for almost every single
character that we are introduced to. In the year 1813, when the novel was first published, it was
natural for people to wed due to status and practicality instead of for true love. The very first line of
the novel is the perfect introduction to this It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in
possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife . Indeed, in 1813 marriage was seen as a
financial transaction and women were seen as a commodity who had to be wed in order

Beethoven Influence On Society
After taking the online Music Appreciation class it has inspired me to appreciate different musical
genres. I really enjoyed learning about the many great composers and the different eras of music that
greatly influenced our society. Music is a beautiful form of art and it is something most of us enjoy. It
can really help in many ways, such as bringing people together or it can simply help us get through
stressful situations in life. Sometimes when I am really stressed out I will listen to music to help me
relax and get my mind off things for awhile. Music has been around for thousands of years throughout
those years there has been many talented composers who have had a great influence on many
composers throughout history. In this essay I will discuss how Ludwig Van Beethoven is known to be
one of the best composers of his time and how the classical period was a moment in musical history
that I found to be very fascinating. I will also discuss how Music Appreciation has changed the way I
apperceive and appreciate the varieties of music throughout history.
Ludwig van Beethoven

the new romantic music. Beethoven was able to express his deep emotions rather than just being
limited with his musical forms. This opened up the doors for all the great composers that soon

Bilingual Education to ban or not to ban?
When we speak about this country The United States of America we automatically think of the great
number of languages people speak in this country. Take California as an example. It is one of the
border states of America, and this state is made up mostly of immigrants. As a result, most people in
this state are either bilingual or even trilingual. In order for the immigrant students to become
integrated into this country, they must learn English, and Bilingual Education can help them assimilate
faster to this new country. Nevertheless, people continue to vote against and ban Bilingual Education
because they believe that if the student is here in America, he or she should be treated the same as the
native speakers in order to save money and for him or her to better fit in. Even though many people
criticize bilingual education, I personally am one of the supportive fans of it because Bilingual
Education allows new immigrant students to learn English at a reasonable pace, assimilate to a new
environment, maintain their academic specialties, and not to fall behind.
What is Bilingual Education? The term refers to the practice of teaching non English speaking
children in their native language, and was developed in the 1960 s; these programs were intended to
allow students to progress in science, math and social studies while they learned English in a separate
class.

The War Between Mexico And The United States Essay
Following eleven years of struggle, Mexico finally achieved its independence from Spain in
September of 1827. Yet over the next 40 years, Mexico would see nearly half of its lands lost from
circumstances both in its control and those that were not. Fundamental in the structuring of the events
that occurred were the altercations between Mexico and the U.S., chiefly speaking the cessation of
Texas from Mexico, the war between Mexico and the United States, and the Gadsden Purchase. These
proceedings crippled an already weakened nation, and set in motion a tortuous path for the nation that
still exists to this very day. The internal and external strife from these three events left Mexico s ties
with the United States diminished, a long lasting alienation of Mexican Americans within the U.S.
boundaries, its people torn asunder by the continuance of combat, both abroad and on its native soil.
Mexico had many difficulties in beginning its life as a new nation, much the same as the United States
did when it achieved independence from England. Freed from the bondage of colonized society,
Mexico was eager to commerce in the capitalistic idealisms as seen in American societies. As such,
Mexico invited American citizens into its new republic in order to learn how to industrialize, infuse
American spirit into its domain, and open channels of commerce with its north American brethren.
Had the venture succeeded, this would have brought to Mexico the infrastructure it required to

Peru is a nation composed of heterogeneous ecosystems including the coastline of the Pacific Ocean,

of climate change and the effects it has on each individual system as well as the effects on wildlife and
human occupants that live in these regions. In Peru, the climate changes that have been taking place

Cirilo Quispe Latorre, the mayor of Cachimayo district recalls how the climate has change just since
he was younger: The rains used to start in October, and we would plant broad beans, wheat, and
potatoes. Now the rains begin around mid December, and we lose more than a month and a half of
growing time. (Hufstader, 2009). Latorre goes on to say that the rains, which once ended in April now
end in March. This significantly diminishes the amount of time that farmers have to produce crops
which in turn has led to decreases in the output of crops in the last twelve years (Hufstader, 2009).
However, according to the USAID report on Peru, annual rainfall percentages have not changed
drastically over the last 40 years. There has been an increase in the coastal regions and highlands
(where most of farming takes place), a decrease in the jungle areas, and little change anywhere else
(US AID, 2011).What has changed though, is the extent of the drought periods which cannot be
alleviated by the intense periods of rain (US AID, 2011). This issue could be helped in the long term
by utilizing more advanced irrigation methods that could store water during the intense rains to help
alleviate some of the burden of the long droughts.
One of the most significant effects of climate change in the region has been the devastating effects of
the melting glaciers. These glaciers often provide an extra source of water for farming regions, storing
water in the rainy season and

taken advantage of by management. The movie, set in 1978, showed textile workers in a small,

conditions. These workers were characteristically poorly educated and largely unskilled (Leiter, 1986,

The on site mill doctor insensitively diagnosed the mother s problem as an expected side effect of
working at the mill. To this Norma Rae angrily declared to her mother, They don t care anything about
you (Asseyev, Rose, Ritt, 1979). Furthermore, Norma Rae s overworked father, who was paid only
$1.33 per hour, keeled over and died after being denied a break by his supervisor when he was
experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. Textile workers were oppressed and dissatisfied, but had no
voice in the mill. When workers become increasingly dissatisfied with their present employment, they
may seek to improve their workplace by forming a union instead of leaving the position (Fossum,
2012, p. 7). Fossum (2012) suggests that dissatisfaction alone does not mean that unionization will
occur. Employees must also feel that they are unable to influence change on their own and believe that
collective bargaining would enhance workplace conditions (Fossum, 2012). In the textile workers
case, the mill was their livelihood. Unionization would be their only chance to improve their quality of
life. By gaining union representation, workers hope to present a unified voice to management to
negotiate acceptable workplace provisions. Unions give workers a voice in decisions that affect them
(Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2007, p. 467). In the movie, Reuben stressed to the mill workers

achievement of our goals and reaching the company s vision.
The success of this plan / strategy relies on a commitment to implementation and regular monitoring
of our progress no matter what we strive to achieve with the business planning process it will become
an exercise in theory unless there are mechanisms by which progress towards our stated outcomes are
reviewed and measured. To that end, the introduction of performance measurement is the key to this
plan and The Company s financial management (including contracted accountant) will be responsible
for collation of data and monitoring of business plan activities for presentation at proposed monthly
management meeting s with the key performance information being formally reported to management
and GTPLS staff at that time.
While dedicated planning is essential, rigid adherence to a faulty plan will lead to poor performance or
failure. A key aspect of successful planning is ongoing evaluation and flexibility, and it is intended
that this plan will be reviewed on a regular basis. This will ensure that all key business targets and
activities remain appropriate mechanisms for achieving both company s sales targets and strategic
goals.

Why Do Asthma Sufferers
The Australian average statistic for people that smoke is 23.3%. The employed adult average statistic
is 84%. Knowing this we can roughly estimate that in the average workplace 1 out of 4 5 people will
smoke. The Australian average for people that suffer from asthma is 18%. This makes 1 out of 5
people in the workplace will suffer from some form of asthma. Unfortunately, having smokers allowed
to smoke in and around the premise of a workplace limits the interactions the asthma sufferers can
have with other workmates as well as limiting the areas the sufferers may go due to the thick, tar
soaked air. Asthma sufferers are among some of the most sensitive disease sufferers on the planet. The
smallest thing can set off an attack such as dust,

The Concept Of A Naval Battle
The concept of a naval battle has been around since approximately 1210 B.C.E. However, it would be
several thousands of years before its most important and revolutionary changes would be brought
about. The idea of a submersible ship has been around since the Revolution, although its success was
minimal at best. The first modern submarine would be developed in the late 19th century and would
be first used successfully in warfare by the Germans in World War 1. It arguably led to the American s
victory over Japan in World War II. Since their development submarines have paved the way for the
evolution of strategy, revolutionary new tactics, as well as playing a vital role in the nuclear triad,
redefining war.
No longer would the Mahanian strategy of a decisive battle be the norm, nor considered the best way
to fight naval battles. With the advent of the submarine, navies could now look into denying their
enemies the sea rather than struggling to control it (Hughes, n.d.). A contributing aspect of this sea
denial is the ability to greatly extend coastal defense. Coastal defense can not be looked at in a
traditional sense. These ships are not looking to simply defend the coast, but rather are cruising
thousands of miles of shore to sink as much of the enemy fleet as possible, thereby crippling their
ability to attack (Lautenschlager, 1987). Submarines also introduce a new element to psychological
warfare. As stated in Karl Lautenschlager s publication for International Security,

Therefore, women were made to upcycle their old clothes into new garments such as gloves and
shorter skirts etc. This highlights how tough the times were straight after the war where there were
major shortages of fabric and clothes. However once the rations started to lift in the 1950s, clothes
became increasingly cheaper and widely available. For men straight after the war, fashion was not too
different from how it was before, this being a single breasted suit for day wear. The materials they
used were natural such as cotton and wool due to scarce materials post war (V A archives). For men, it
wasn t until the early 1950s when their fashion became more varied due to the rise in subcultures. In
1947 fashion history was made. French designer, Christian Dior displayed his first collection Corolle
at 30 Avenue Montaigue and essentially became a world renowned designer overnight (Dior.com, no
date). Dior managed to recreate the image of a woman in a matter of days where he presented 90
different outfits to well known designers and editors. Carmel Snow, then editor in chief of harpers
bazar, after seeing Dior s show declared the collection The New Look (Press.C, 2016:) and this name
caught on to many, when eventually everyone was calling the Bar suit, Dior s New Look. The line
Corolle brought back the classical 19th century hourglass figure back with full emphasis on feminine
shapes, he called it the Bar suit (V A

Andres Jaramillo Analysis
Andres Jaramillo, a well known restaurateur in Bogota Colombia has found himself in hot water after
making unflattering comments about a woman who claims to have been raped in the parking lot of his
restaurant Andres Carne de Res. The comments Mr. Jaramillo made brings to light the unfavorable
views Colombia has on women.
After giving a scenario about a woman s choice in clothing and the consequences it brings, Jaramillo s
comments bring to light the haunting fact that women are facing the harsh realities of gender
inequality, violence against their rights, and against women in general. According to a recent national
study, 37 percent of married women have been physically abused by their husbands. Ten percent of
those women report having

The Status Of Women In The Code Of Hammurabi
In Ancient Mesopotamia, one of the earliest civilizations in history, the status of women was much
lower than that of men. They did not have as many rights and privileges as men did. They were
expected to be submissive to their male guardian, whether it be a father or husband, and carry out their
specific duties. According to the textbook, A woman s place was in the home, and failure to fulfill her
expected duties was grounds for divorce... (Duiker and Spielvogel 14). During this time, Hammurabi,
who came into power and ruled most of Mesopotamia in 1792 B.C.E., developed a code of law known
as the The Code of Hammurabi that described Hammurabi s strict system of justice. Under the code,
men had the ultimate authority over their families and society in general. The punishments for women
who neglected their household duties and the law were severe compared to those for men who broke
the law. The Code of Hammurabi states, If she is not innocent, but leaves her husband, and ruins her
house, neglecting her husband, this woman shall be cast into the water (143). This law is one of the
several laws of the code regarding family, especially the relationship between a man and his wife. In
the law, it says, If a man s wife be surprised...with another man, both shall be tied and thrown into
water... (129). Women were expected to stay faithful to their husbands since they were under their
authority. This is also because the family unit was a key element to the development and growth

Informative Essay About Massage
There are many types of massage, each with their own benefits to relieve stress, pain or enhance
general wellbeing. Massage is an ancient art with many variations depending on the country of origin.
I explore some of the most popular, explaining the treatment and their individual benefits.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage, the most popular worldwide, is also known as Classic massage and is the
foundation for most other types of Western massage. It involves using firm but gentle pressure to
promote relaxation, working on areas of specific muscle tension. It is performed on bare skin using
oils or lotions. The therapist uses their hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers
of the muscles. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues

The West has caught on to its benefits using it as a quick de stressing program.
Indian Head Massage is a very relaxing treatment which, as the name suggests, focuses on massaging
the head. Indian Head Massage (Champissage) also includes massage of the shoulders, upper arms,
neck, scalp, face and ears. The treatment uses a range of different movements including deep kneading
and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. Performed sitting upright in a
chair, it helps to clear the mind as it revitalizes and improves alertness and concentration levels, whilst
improving joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders.
Reflexology Massage
Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is based on the concept that there are reflex areas on the feet
and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. The underlying
theory is that if pressure is applied to a specific reflex area, it affects the organ

Chipotle Mexican Grill Research Paper
Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG)
If you are like the majority of all other Americans, chances are that you have once found yourself
waiting in the long, corner wrapping line at Chipotle. Even if you are not one of those people, then
you still probably know of this fast food restaurant and its popular reputation, both good and bad. The
description of this company, provided by NASDAQ, states, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., a Delaware
corporation, together with its subsidiaries ( Chipotle , the Company , or we ) operates Chipotle
Mexican Grill restaurants, which serve a focused menu of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls (a burrito
without the tortilla) and salads, made using fresh ingredients. As of December 31, 2016, we operated

Chipotle Mexican Grill has been trying to recover from their e Coli outbreak in 2015 and planned on
finally escaping the decline in 2017. They planned on doing this by regaining the trust of customers
(Lahart, Justin). Things were looking up for the company as sales were up by 17% and their profits
increased by more than double. However, things have not gone as the company planned this year, and
now the company has begun to once again decline. Although the recent Hurricanes Irma and Harvey
have not caused a large impact on the economy as a whole, they have caused a major decline in
Chipotle s earnings in the recent third quarter, as 425 of their locations were in the path of either of the
storms (Wiener Bronner, Danielle). Another negative factor that is affecting the company is
skyrocketing prices of avocados. The price of the fruit is up by 125% since January. Two reasons
behind this would be an unsatisfactory harvest and an increasingly high demand for avocados. One
more factor behind the company s plummeting stock is a data security hack that allowed credit card
information to be pilfered from customers in April 2017 (Gillespie,

  • 2. Why Do Some Children have Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and Some... For many years the questions has been raised as to why not all children are affected by Foetal Alcohol Syndrome even if the mother was drinking alcohol during her pregnancy. The theory that genetics plays a role in whether a child will have FAS first came about through studying twins. In a sample size 16 sets of twins, which were all exposed to alcohol while in the uterus, out of the 5 sets of identical twins, in each set both children were affected by FAS. Out of the 11 sets of fraternal twins, 4 sets had the same out come as the identical twins, while in the other 7 sets only one child per set was affect by FAS. Through this research it can therefore be understood that it was the difference in DNA of the fraternal twins that lead to only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another area of study is that if the mother has both or one of the alleles ADH1B*2 and ADH1B*3 her child is protected from FAS. ADH1B*2 and ADH1B*3 are polymorphisms of ADH1B which comes from the alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), which is a catalyzing enzyme involved with the oxidation of ethanol. These alleles code for enzymes that cause oxidation of ethanol to occur at a much faster rate than usual. By having a faster oxidation rate alcohol will be metabolized and detoxified sooner. The alcohol consumed goes into your blood stream and is spread through the body, which could have a teratogenic effect on the foetus, until the alcohol has been completely metabolized. Therefore the faster the alcohol can be metabolized the less chance there is of it getting to the placenta and therefore into the foetus bloodstream. Due to the fact that the alcohol won t be able to get to the foetus because it oxidised much quicker, the foetus is protected from the effects of the alcohol which lead to FAS. The most recent discovery to provide evidence that genetics is a contributing factor to the development of FAS is the discovery of the exact locus that controls the alcohol sensitivity of the L1 protein. L1 is an essential part of the neural development of foetuses. It is located on the outside of cells and is important to the joining of cells as well as axon control and movement of cells. Phosphorylation, controlled by the enzyme ERK2, occurred inside the L1 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Meditation 17 By John Donne Meditation 17 is a poem by John Donne that reveals his thoughts and beliefs on the world altogether. We see a lot of religion cited in this poem and then we also see a kind of dark side of that which would be death. In this poem, John Donne elevates this poem by the way he structures it as well as the language and situation. The language is so important to understand because it can convey a message that is deeper than just the words. We see a lot of words that very common in this poem however, they are placed in a unique way that most likely someone will have to go back and reread to grasp what is being said. There are many metaphors, analogies and personification used throughout the poem. I believe John Donne does this so that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I see John Donne doing the same thing in this poem, the tone is somewhat straight forward and serious, with the narrator having a down speaking tone and somewhat apathetic to the things being conveyed in this poem. And when she buries a man, that action concerns me this is an indicator of the tone being used once again. It is clear that the line is speaking about death, it is pretty common that death is taking seriously and in which we would be serious when speaking on it. John Donne also uses alliterations throughout this poem along with repetition. congregation to come , the church is catholic , are examples of alliteration he used. the action concerns me , for whom this bell tolls are used as repetition. All of these examples are used to help remind the reader what exactly they are reading and gathering from the poem. I think that these all lighten the mood of the poem so it s not total darkness. The structure stands out to me mainly in the fact that there are no stanzas nor paragraph indentions. The poem is a single paragraph, I believe he kept it this way because he states that all mankind is of one author and is one volume . Also, this single paragraph poem could be seen as an essay. When I think of an essay, they have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And I shot her (Wein 285), desperately yelled Jullie in Elizabeth Wein s book, Code Name Verity. Throughout this tale of two female companions in World War II, the theme of friendship was portrayed through the bond between Maddie and Julie, the alliances with those around them, and the events that tie these two together. Firstly, the theme of friendship in the novel was shown through unbreakable bond of the protagonists. They had connected instantly upon working together at Maidsend Airfield in England. To her express gratitude, she managed to enroll Maddie in flight training and get her involved with Maidsend. With help from Dympna, Maddie was able to begin her career as a pilot. Another official had pulled strings so that she could be where she was as a ATA pilot, as a woman being paid to do a man s job. Although his name was not mentioned, Maddie referred to him as John Balliol. John was there for Maddie and Julie both. He protected them from punishment, recommended them for higher positions, and even accepted Jamie after Maddie had recruited him. Jamie was Julie s brother and Maddie s close friend and fellow pilot. He was there to lend a hand to the two girls whenever he could. While doing so, he welcomed Maddie into the Beaufort Stuart home at Craig Castle. Throughout the plot, he was there for Maddie when Julie was not. Now stop. You go back to Ormaie and look after Verity. I know he is deas sick with worry abour her too and was being brave to make me brave, so I nodded. He wiped my cheeks with his thumbs (Wein 244). • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biometrics Security System Although, there are lots of benefits of biometrics security system, it really has many flaws in its system. Each biometrics application method has weaknesses which could cause problems because of its users. For instance, if the biometrics security system uses fingerprints to identify its users and an incident causes the person to cut his/her finger then it can be a problem throughout the verification process. For voice recognition methods, illnesses such as strep throat will make it hard for authorized users to obtain access to their information. Another factor that will influence voice recognition systems is the continuous aging of its users. Noise in an environment where voice recognition is used to identify its users can also allow it to be hard for users to be identified. For iris or retinal scanning applications, users might find it very intrusive. Users might also have the concern for the safety of the eyes throughout the iris or retinal scan. Furthermore, databases used to store user identification data will soon be very large which might form a potential threat. For scanning retinal/iris characteristics and storing wide range of database, biometrics system requires new and modern technology. Therefore, the price for equipment can also be expensive. Finally, a lot of people remain concerned about biometrics technology in different aspects such as: security, adaptability to rate of change in life, scalability, accuracy, privacy and others. Erik Erikson s Developmental Theory Essay Firstname Lastname Instructor s Name Course Number Date Erik Erikson Developmental Theory Erik Erikson is a famous German born American psychologist, who developed his own psychoanalytical developmental theory. This developmental theory was aimed to identify the steps a developing human should to pass from infancy to adulthood. Erikson identified eight steps of the psychological development. The ideas of Erikson were heavily influenced by an Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud, who also analyzed the human psychological development and identified psychosexual stages of development. However, Erikson did not emphasize the predominant role of sexual development in psychological development. He argued that the role of culture and society on a human was the most significant factor which through the evolution separated human psychological development from the development of animals. Erikson writes that there are conflicts which take place within ego and they are usually caused by external factors (society, culture, etc.) Thus, according to Erikson, a human successfully completes the stage when he resolves the main conflict within his ego. (McLeod) Erikson develops his ideas basing on the idea that biological and social nature coexist in each person and each psychological crisis at the end of each life stage reveals a conflict between social and biological forces of a human. Reconciliation of these two identities leads to the harmonious psychological development. On the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Detrimental Effects of Concussions In recent years concussions have become more and more of a topic due to their effects on the people who receives them. Concussions can cause a multitude of problems for a person later in their life whether they suffered from a major concussion or just a minor concussion. These problems can occur if a person ended up with multiple concussions over a lifetime or if they only have had one single concussion The problems a person can encounter are all somewhat connected but very diverse at the same time. Most of the problems a person will encounter will be due to a change in that person s brain but they can range from simple memory problems to suicidal problems. The problem with concussions are that not everybody takes them serious enough. Some people like football players will just blow it off. After taking a big hit and barely being able to get to the sidelines they will be right back in the game on the next possession. Others like coaches might not take a player s concussion serious because they know without that player they might not be able to win thus putting the players long term health into effect. Concussions are very devastating and cause many people future problems no matter what some doctors say. The brain is an organ that is essential to everything people do. Whether it is remembering something or just talking to someone the brain is in charge of it. Much closer. And Rashad was looking at me, too. I locked eyes with a kid I didn t know, but felt like I did (309). All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely sought to address police brutality in America, more specifically Springfield. Rashad and Quinn are your average high school teenagers, attending the same school not knowing one another but going about their daily lives when Rashad is brutally beaten by Officer Paul Galluzzo. The taped beating of Rashad causes both young men to dig deep and answer questions about what is right and what is wrong. Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely presents counter storytelling in All American Boys to tell a story of racism and police brutality from the perspective of African American teen (Rashad) and a White teen (Quinn). Racism is defined as a system of advantage based on race a system that involves cultural messages and institutional policies or practices, as well as the beliefs and actions of individuals (221). • 18. The Use of Humor in Richard Iii by Shakespeare The Use of Humor in Richard III There is no doubt that Shakespeare was the author of great pieces of literature during an interesting time period. Given the circumstances, he was indeed mastering his craft during a very tumultuous juncture in British history. When one reads Richard III, they don t necessarily have to know a great deal about the War of Roses to understand that there is some serious strife going on. However, if the reader takes some time to understand this fascinating string of events, the story of Richard and his fall becomes much more interesting. In all of his brilliance, Shakespeare manages to toy with the idea of humor in this very morose play. As a matter of fact, he does this in many, if not all of his tragedies. ... After she exits, they all talk to each other, pretty much asking, what the heck was that all about? The next scene also has some prime examples of humor in this play. Here, two murderers are sent to kill Clarence. The text is so rich in indirectly describing the demeanor of these two, and the reader undoubtedly chuckles when reading the dialogue between the two of them. Primarily, the reader sees this in lines 110 115: I ll go back to the duke of Gloucester and tell him so. / Please, just wait a minute. I m hoping my holy mood will pass. / It usually only lasts about twenty seconds. / How are you feeling now? / Actually, I m still feeling some pangs of conscience. / Even in modern times, the idea of a conscience coming and going instead of being unwavering is funny. Even funnier is the thief being aware of this, and saying, hang on, it ll pass , as if his holy conscience were a case of bad gas or something like that. Further on, the two murderers talk about conscience, and how nobody would listen to it even if it flew out of a wallet. Of course, no Shakespeare play would be complete without the use of puns. Shakespeare uses this type of humor as a witty way to keep the dialogue fresh and flowing. Not knowing how easily one s fortunes can be reversed, Braaksma s peers moved through their education with the belief they were above the daily struggles commonly seen in the blue collar workforce. Instead of learning the value of hard work, the modern attitude seems to be one of entitlement of all things with little to no effort. One almost gets the sense that the work ethic of today s youth has suffered due to the relative ease required to perform most summer or part time jobs. The main theme of the article, that a strong work ethic is an asset to future endeavors, is persuasive because it highlights the importance of an understanding of the intrinsic value of an education, comprehension of the uncertainty the job market, and the satisfaction of a job well done. In Erich Maria Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front many soldiers are often drawn to nature to provide comfort and peace. Young Paul Baumer, the central character in the novel, frequently looks to nature for comfort in the midst of the war going on around him. Remarque reveals in this novel that it is possible to make a connection to something so pure while in the midst of something horrific and unnatural like war. Paul experiences the death of his close friend (Keimmerich), but in nature, he finds comfort and is empowered. This is shown when Paul states, I breathe as deep as I can, and feel the breeze in my face, warm and soft as never before (33). This passage shows how Paul looks to nature for comfort in times where he is sad or angry. Instead of thinking about his comrade s death, he goes outside and enjoys the nature around him. As a result of this he is no longer sad about his comrade s death. Another passage that shows how he becomes empowered through nature is, The earth is streaming with forces which pour into me through the soles of my feet (33). • 25. Comparing Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride... Compare and contrast the presentation of love and marriage in A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby. The main theme which brings A Midsummer Night s Dream, Pride and Prejudice and The Great Gatsby together is the idea of how love and marriage is presented. Shakespeare, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Austen all portray love and marriage as being two separate issues, which rarely intertwine. The different contexts in which these texts are written have all had a huge impact on the way in which love and marriage is portrayed. The Great Gatsby was set in the roaring twenties, a time where people enjoyed wealth and artistic innovation. Pride and Prejudice was set in the early 19th century, a time when wealth and marriage were hugely important. A Midsummer Night s Dream was written between 1590 and 1596, which is a comedic, light hearted play and focuses on marriage. In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, marriage is a significant issue for almost every single character that we are introduced to. In the year 1813, when the novel was first published, it was natural for people to wed due to status and practicality instead of for true love. The very first line of the novel is the perfect introduction to this It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife . When we speak about this country The United States of America we automatically think of the great number of languages people speak in this country. Take California as an example. It is one of the border states of America, and this state is made up mostly of immigrants. As a result, most people in this state are either bilingual or even trilingual. In order for the immigrant students to become integrated into this country, they must learn English, and Bilingual Education can help them assimilate faster to this new country. Nevertheless, people continue to vote against and ban Bilingual Education because they believe that if the student is here in America, he or she should be treated the same as the native speakers in order to save money and for him or her to better fit in. Even though many people criticize bilingual education, I personally am one of the supportive fans of it because Bilingual Education allows new immigrant students to learn English at a reasonable pace, assimilate to a new environment, maintain their academic specialties, and not to fall behind. What is Bilingual Education? The term refers to the practice of teaching non English speaking children in their native language, and was developed in the 1960 s; these programs were intended to allow students to progress in science, math and social studies while they learned English in a separate class. ... Yet over the next 40 years, Mexico would see nearly half of its lands lost from circumstances both in its control and those that were not. Fundamental in the structuring of the events that occurred were the altercations between Mexico and the U.S., chiefly speaking the cessation of Texas from Mexico, the war between Mexico and the United States, and the Gadsden Purchase. These proceedings crippled an already weakened nation, and set in motion a tortuous path for the nation that still exists to this very day. The internal and external strife from these three events left Mexico s ties with the United States diminished, a long lasting alienation of Mexican Americans within the U.S. boundaries, its people torn asunder by the continuance of combat, both abroad and on its native soil. Mexico had many difficulties in beginning its life as a new nation, much the same as the United States did when it achieved independence from England. Freed from the bondage of colonized society, Mexico was eager to commerce in the capitalistic idealisms as seen in American societies. When workers become increasingly dissatisfied with their present employment, they may seek to improve their workplace by forming a union instead of leaving the position (Fossum, 2012, p. 7). Fossum (2012) suggests that dissatisfaction alone does not mean that unionization will occur. They brought the idea back to the other page owners and it was decided the billboard had to become a reality. At first progress was none existant as there are no billboards in the Presidio, where Lucasfilm is headquartered. The Page Owners went to various websites of the offered billboards and yet were unable to find a viable location. They then went to Google Maps and the roads by street level looking for appropriate locations. Still nothing. Then Brian Borg, the man who would become the billboard s Campaign Manager, decide the only way to move forward was to contact ad companies directly for assistance in locating viable spots. • 41. The Concept Of A Naval Battle The concept of a naval battle has been around since approximately 1210 B.C.E. However, it would be several thousands of years before its most important and revolutionary changes would be brought about. The idea of a submersible ship has been around since the Revolution, although its success was minimal at best. The first modern submarine would be developed in the late 19th century and would be first used successfully in warfare by the Germans in World War 1. It arguably led to the American s victory over Japan in World War II. Since their development submarines have paved the way for the evolution of strategy, revolutionary new tactics, as well as playing a vital role in the nuclear triad, redefining war. No longer would the Mahanian strategy of a decisive battle be the norm, nor considered the best way to fight naval battles. With the advent of the submarine, navies could now look into denying their enemies the sea rather than struggling to control it (Hughes, n.d.). A contributing aspect of this sea denial is the ability to greatly extend coastal defense. Coastal defense can not be looked at in a traditional sense. These ships are not looking to simply defend the coast, but rather are cruising thousands of miles of shore to sink as much of the enemy fleet as possible, thereby crippling their ability to attack (Lautenschlager, 1987). Submarines also introduce a new element to psychological warfare. As stated in Karl Lautenschlager s publication for International Security, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, women were made to upcycle their old clothes into new garments such as gloves and shorter skirts etc. This highlights how tough the times were straight after the war where there were major shortages of fabric and clothes. However once the rations started to lift in the 1950s, clothes became increasingly cheaper and widely available. For men straight after the war, fashion was not too different from how it was before, this being a single breasted suit for day wear. The materials they used were natural such as cotton and wool due to scarce materials post war (V A archives). For men, it wasn t until the early 1950s when their fashion became more varied due to the rise in subcultures. In 1947 fashion history was made. • 44. The Status Of Women In The Code Of Hammurabi In Ancient Mesopotamia, one of the earliest civilizations in history, the status of women was much lower than that of men. They did not have as many rights and privileges as men did. They were expected to be submissive to their male guardian, whether it be a father or husband, and carry out their specific duties. According to the textbook, A woman s place was in the home, and failure to fulfill her expected duties was grounds for divorce... (Duiker and Spielvogel 14). During this time, Hammurabi, who came into power and ruled most of Mesopotamia in 1792 B.C.E., developed a code of law known as the The Code of Hammurabi that described Hammurabi s strict system of justice. Under the code, men had the ultimate authority over their families and society in general. The punishments for women who neglected their household duties and the law were severe compared to those for men who broke the law. The Code of Hammurabi states, If she is not innocent, but leaves her husband, and ruins her house, neglecting her husband, this woman shall be cast into the water (143). This law is one of the several laws of the code regarding family, especially the relationship between a man and his wife. In the law, it says, If a man s wife be surprised...with another man, both shall be tied and thrown into water... (129). Women were expected to stay faithful to their husbands since they were under their authority. This is also because the family unit was a key element to the development and growth ... However, things have not gone as the company planned this year, and now the company has begun to once again decline. Although the recent Hurricanes Irma and Harvey have not caused a large impact on the economy as a whole, they have caused a major decline in Chipotle s earnings in the recent third quarter, as 425 of their locations were in the path of either of the storms (Wiener Bronner, Danielle). Another negative factor that is affecting the company is skyrocketing prices of avocados. The price of the fruit is up by 125% since January.
