2. Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Essay
Sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) play s a critical role in the function of contraction and relaxation of
the muscle (John Wiley and Sons, 2003). It provides the ability to control and balance the amount
of calcium being released/uptake and for storage (John Sons, 2003). There is a correlation between
defects in calcium transport by SR and the ability for the heart to function (Alpert, Arai,
MacLennan, and Periasamy, 1993). By alternating the gene expression that encodes SR proteins, it
will show if the abnormalities in calcium uptake and release has a association with heat failure
(Alpert et al., 1993). Defects in the ability of the sarcoplasmic reticulum to uptake/release calcium
could cause dysfunction in systolic and diastolic rhythm in the heart (Donald M. Bers, David A

Valdivia, 2003). It is considered heart failure if there is an improper function of systolic and
diastolic for the heart to pump blood (Donald et al., 2003). It was difficult to obtain normal
healthy hearts to compare to therefore, looked at levels of mRNA and phospholamban (regulate
Ca2+ pump) that encodes SR to see the rate at which calcium is being uptake/released (Alpert et
al., 1993). Patients with heart failure, showed a delay in the rate of the calcium uptake/release of
about 50% decrease in the right ventricle by SR (Alpert et al., 1993).Furthermore, there was a
48% decrease of messenger mRNA in binding with ATP and uptake of calcium in the left ventricle
(Alpert et al., 1993). Sarcoplasmic reticulum had a decrease rate in pumping calcium, which caused
low rhythm that lead to heart failure (Alpert et al., 1993). The gene expression mRNA is important
for the sarcoplasmic reticulum to

3. The Outsiders And Soc Characters In The Outsiders
The novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a story about two groups of people that live in
Oklahoma. The characters are Greasers and Soc s, they are both alike but the Greasers are poor
and the Soc s are rich. One of the nicest people in the story is Ponyboy Curtis. Ponyboy has many
attributes to himself that make him interesting and if he wasn t in the story it wouldn t be the same.
First, In the story The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton the character Ponyboy Curtis has many strengths. A
couple of them are that he is tough. He is tough because when the Soc s pinned him on the way
home from the movies he was strong and didn t just let them kill him he fought back and got away
but still got caught. Another is that he is respectful, he is respectful

4. Analysis Of Disabled And Out, Out
Disabled by Wilfred Owen and Out, Out by Robert Frost are infamous for their powerful and
impactful atmospheres and the ways in which they have creates them, some of the methods being
shared and with some of the methods differing, which is what I intend to discuss in this essay.
One way in which Disabled and Out, Out compare in the atmosphere is through their use of pity to
evoke extreme emotions. Owen creates pity for the narrator through the strong contrast between
his life before the war and after it.We can see that pathetic fallacy is used throughout when
describing the post war society, with words such as dark , ghastly and solemn used to emphasise
the narrator s internal feelings, which is evident by how the entire poem is essentially an
internal monologue, which is often synonymous with internal darkness and a conflicting mind.
Owen also uses the idea of isolation to create pity, by repeating phrases such as why don t they
come to emphasise loneliness. Owen also refers to the narrator s lack of female attention as to
evoke pity, especially when his disability is referred to as a queer disease . Frost also uses pity to
evoke emotion throughout his poem. We can see this clearly when he writes Call it a day, I wish
they might have said. This short sentence is foreboding and creates a sense that the latter lines will
evoke pity and suffering upon the boy. The tragedy of the situation also evokes pity, especially as
his condition rapidly worsens, with him

5. Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe Summary
For this summer reading, I chose to read Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafe by
Fannie Flag. The book is set in Alabama; it is mostly set in the early 1900s to the late 1980s.
While in the early 1920s, this was the time of the Great Depression, a time where poverty and
racism were well known. The story is told in both present, from the 1920 s 1940 s, when the
events were occurring, and past tense, when Ninny Threadgoode retold the events to Evelyn Couch,
in the 1980 s. Fried Green Tomatoes at The Whistle Stop Cafebegins with The Weems Weekly
introducing the opening of the cafe ran by Ruth Jamison and Idgie Threadgoode. Then, Ninny
Threadgoode and Evelyn Couch meet in the visitors lounge in a nursing home. Mrs. Threadgoode...

But like always there will be those who are immune to your poison . The meaning behind it, is it
is about bullying. Instead of just saying bullying, I made it into a metaphor by calling it a
plague. The bully always looking for a victim but there are always some that ignore them, and in
this case, being immune to them. My second quote is, Trapped in my own personal hell,
screaming for help, trapped in my body. No one ever noticed, never gave a second glance. As

meaning behind this has 2 meanings, the first is a medical condition called Locked in Syndrome.
This is a condition resulting from a stroke that damages part of the brainstem. With that, the body
and most facial muscles are paralyzed but consciousness remains and the ability to perform some
eye movements. It practically is a personal hell with awareness of what is happening in your
environment. The second meaning ties with the first, that on the outside someone pretends that

both of them to create a mood of loneliness and wanting someone to notice they are not

Most of VASEP members are prestige seafood producers and exporters, represent 80% of the total
seafood exports of Vietnam; the others are service enterprises.
In the Plenary Congress of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers
(VASEP) which took place in HCM City on June 12, 2012 the Association s 14th anniversary, Mr.
Tran Thien Hai, VASEP Chairman said that Viet Nam s seafood enterprises have long struggled
with numerous market barriers, raw materials, and credit crunch, etc. However, the industry still
keeps growing thanks to band aid measures. But now, VASEP and seafood enterprises must get real
about the threats and the join forces to develop in a sustainable manner. Although many enterprises
are in trouble, others still performs well. Therefore, we need to decide which target is more
important; the US$6.5 billion export turnover or the sustainable development?
The recent spectacular achievements would not last if the seafood industry does not restructure
themselves, said Dr. Nguyen Huu Dung, VASEP Vice President. The fast growth in volume
negatively affected the quality. As the external condition changes, enterprises will fall into hardship.
Therefore, it is crucial that the enterprises and government evaluate themselves and the situation,
said Dung.
According to Dung, the seafood enterprises in Viet Nam have undertaken restructuring since 2008.
At present, the number of farming areas owned by enterprises increase day by day.

8. Key Elements Of A Stress Management Program
1.Three things are necessary for stress to occur: a stressor, a perception of stress, and a stress
response. The three main elements of a stress management program include the elimination
/modification/reduction of the number of stressors, an alteration of our perceptions, and the
reduction/modification/control of the stressresponse.
2.Often, when we think of stress, we automatically think of the bad kind. In all reality, stress isn
t always a bad thing; it is just the body s response to changes that create some demands in our
lives. There are many different positive stressors that are short term and motivate us as we work
to improve our performance in our day to day lives. It is important to note that these positive
stressors have the potential to cause some distress at a certain point. There is a peak at which
stress switches from eustress to distress. Eustress or good stress increases performance up to the
peak. Once the peak is reached, distress or bad stress kicks in and performance declines. When
that certain amount of stress is reached and the tipping point occurs, we may need to use various
stress management strategies to help us get back on the right track and alleviate some of this
distress we are feeling.
3.Stress, to a certain degree, is a necessity in our lives. It gives us precious, powerful fight or flight
hormones that have the ability to keep us safe in times of danger. Along with that, small amounts of
stress often help us perform tasks more

9. Attic Black-Figure Column Krater
The Attic Black Figure Column Krater depicts Dionysos the Wine God surrounded by various
Satyrs and Maenads. The Satyrs and Maenads appear to be performing some kind of dance ritual,
with Dionysos standing center. Dionysos, holding a drinking appeared rather relaxed compared to
the others in the scene, it almost appears as if he was smiling at the Satyrs and Maenads.
Ultimately, the subject matter of the painting on the vase showcases a joyous ritual with Dionysus
and his follower Satyrs and Maenads. The subject matter of this vase infers that the Athenians were
a festive people that enjoyed dance and wine. The overall nature of the scene feels festive, with the
Satyrs and Maenads dancing around a relaxed Dionysus. Secondly, Dionysus... Show more content

First, the Satyrs have animal like features such as their tails, and horse like legs. On the other
hand, the woman have paperwhite skin and black marking on their body that resembles a tattoo.
Lastly, Dionysus drinking horn is symbolic his status as the God of Wine, while his ivy leaf
crown represents his immortality. Since the picture depicts Dionysos the God of Wine, I speculate
this scene is meant to celebrate the act of drinking. Next, the Satyrs erect penis hints at the sexual
tension amongst the characters. Lastly, after further examination it became subtly apparent that
the first three characters on the left side of the vase were not fully engaged in the ritual, the
Maenad is facing left towards the two Satyrs on the left unlike the rest of the figures. The realistic
nature of the painting, infers that Dionysus and his band of Maenads and Satyrs shared similar
characteristics to humans. Next, the colors used on this column krater distinguish the identity of
each character. For instance, the Satyrs were all pitch black, the Maenads were white with a
myriad of black lies, and Dionysus had a brown skin tone. Lastly, the wide array of heart shaped
vine leaves emphatically conveys that the Column krater was used for

10. Corruption In Jamacia Kincaid s A Small Place
Jamacia Kincaid s A Small Place is most certainly a postcolonial text she illustrates the problems
and consequences of the decolonization of Antigua, especially questions to the political and
cultural independence of formerly subjugated people. Kincaid positions the reader into a bevy of
different angles; in the first section Kincaid describes the natural beauty of the island as a
hypothetical tourist. As a reader we are being isolated from the harsher realities of the people that
live there. The information given is facts only a native would know, for example the reason why
the majority of the cars on the island are poorly run. In Kincaid s guided tour are her views about
the mansions on the island, which are gained through corruption. In... Show more content on

As an example, she takes the state of the library, awaiting repairs after all these years and forced
to reside in temporary quarters above a dry goods store. Kincaid has fond, if ambivalent, feelings
toward the old library, which was a haven of beauty and an escape into reading for her as a child.
She recalls the imperious ways of the head librarian (who suspected Kincaid, rightly, of stealing
books), who is now sadly reduced to campaigning, mostly unsuccessfully, for funds to build a
new library, while the collection decomposes in cardboard boxes. The rich members of the Mill
Reef Club have the funds to help, but will do so only if the old library is rebuilt a demand that
Kincaid sees as having more to do with nostalgia for the colonial regime than with a true desire to
help. Kincaid mentions the ironies involved in Antigua having a Minister of Culture without having
a culture to administer. She also mentions her politically active mother s run in with the current
Minister of Culture, who has allowed the library to languish. Education has clearly suffered on
Antigua in the years since independence, and Kincaid ruefully notes the poor speech habits of the

Recommendations:
В·Although the numbers of younger riders are on the rise, Harley must take notice of the marketing
styles that MTV utilizes.
В·The youth of this country are constantly changing, and constant market research must be done to
keep up with what the next ideas of what is cool.
В·Generally older males are the demographic that Harley Davidson aims for, but the research I
found indicates that women and young men are beginning to purchase more cruiser style
motorcycles.
В·Victory makes a great product, (I should know because I sell them) and they are on the rise to be
the top competition to Harley.
В·Harley must get into the minds of the younger and more feminine crowds by surveys or
incentives that appeal to this new demographic.

Microsoft s Partnership with UNHCR Pro Bono Publico?
Let me first provide the landscape of this case study by highlighting that the evolution of the
partnership between the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the
software giant Microsoft Corporation facilitated a strategic and mutually beneficial partnership, as
well as shaping the definition today of good corporate social responsibility. The corporate social
responsibility (CSR) initiative was created back in 1999 as an endeavor at a point in time when
Microsoft employees engaged to assist to aid the victims of the Kosovo crisis. The emotional

a long term goal of providing some ideal public relations and brand citizenry ship longing for

our readings Microsoft lacked investment opportunities, share price dropped in valuation an the
company itself was portrayed as a monopoly power in our society. The concept behind the Global

13. Behn s Infatuation Between Amer-Indians And Oroonoko
Although Aphra Behn s infatuation with both the Amer Indians of Suriname and Oroonoko may
lead one to believe that she is somewhat different from the general European population, her
descriptions of said peoples reveal her true emotions as those of the general European populace. As
such, she projects the beliefs at the time, making her an indicator of widely held attitudes towards
the justification of enslavement, or the lack thereof, and the perception of foreign peoples.
Understanding Europeans attitudes during the 1600 s, when Oroonoko; or, The Royal Slave was
published, allows one to greater comprehend European slave owners religious motivations for
enslavement. Behn tries to justify the Amer Indians and Oroonoko s freedom by describing... Show

They are described as being, ...modest and bashful, very shy and nice of being touch d (Behn
39) and that, ...there is not to be seen an indecent Action, or Glance... (Behn 39). These
conservative qualities, qualities not typically found in heathens, give them a pseudo Christian
appeal, thereby justifying their lack of enslavement. Behn goes so far as to compare them to,
...our first Parents before the Fall... (Behn 39) and even compares their aprons to what, ...Adam
and Eve did [with] the Fig leaves... (Behn 39). Oroonoko s Christian appeal is also capitalized

a Soul, as politick Maxims, and was as sensible of power, as any prince... (Behn 44). These instances
characterize the Amer Indians and Oroonoko as nearly Christian. They also provide justification for
the Amer Indians lack of enslavement. Through both their Christian values and the direct allusions
to Christianity, Behn justifies their freedom based on them being too innocent, modest, and nearly
Christian to enslave. In other words, they are too human. She implies that subjecting the Amer
Indians to such horrors would be a tragedy, whereas the Africans lack such Christian (or

The Evergreen Marching Band and Colorguard (EMBC) has stewed in accomplishment, success,
and hard work, for more than two decades. People don t know, that we re not just a normal

team, EMBC strives to compete amongst the greats. For a couple decades, EMBC has marched to
successand we don t want to stop now; however, the competitive program was close to being
slashed this year, due to lack of funds. Students and parents raged at the thought of no competitive
season. Competing is the best part for everyone in this program. If we lost that it wouldn t be as
much fun. We were so far in debt that if we couldn t raise enough money, it would ve been game
over.
If we had more money in our budget to do our competitive season, we would not have to say
goodbye to competing. The program receives a mere $1000, for the whole band program, as said
by the band director. That is not enough for our program. My school district needs to fund the
EMBC program separately from the regular band programs. I am not saying that their program isn t
as important, but we, the EMBC, require more funding for our award winning program. It is a
sport, and therefore merits the full funding like any other team. A way we can do that is by

extremely unethical, unlike the CEO of Starbucks, Howard Schultz, who is considered a very

16. Clearance Rates In Neighborhood Canvassing
I feel there is a multitude of reasons as to why clearance rates would differ by census region.
Some of those reasons include differences in reporting, problems with evidence collection, and
police and prosecutorial mistakes. That being said, I feel that one of the areas where mistakes
happen compromising the ability to see a case through to arrest is a failure on the part of law
enforcementofficers to canvass neighborhoods appropriately. Eyewitness information, questionable
at times in its own right, can be the difference between an arrest and another unsolved case.

The same could be said here. Neighborhood canvassing is a long, drawn out, boring process that
everyone would rather avoid. Going from house to house, business to business, talking to people
who saw nothing, would rather not be involved, or just don t want to talk to the police can be a
thankless job. However, it is the basic skills that solve crimes. Therefore, I feel an intervention that
would help clearance rates would be organized and accountable programs for canvassing. Included
in this program would be an educational portion showing how to effectively interview those who
are reluctant or those who feel they saw nothing but may know more than they think. Also included
in this program would be the reasons why this method is effective and, because who doesn t like
stories, examples where canvassing solved the crime and caught the criminal, as well as examples
where canvassing would have solved the crime if only a department would have dedicated the
personnel. Once departmental training had occurred, I would ensure that a system of checks
and balances is in place. Every contact, or lack thereof, would need a report. These reports
would be filed in a central location where everyone involved in the case would have access. This
way an officer can see if an area was canvassed or if someone wasn t home at a location then they
could attempt another contact. Additionally, officers would need to continue attempting contact
until contact with someone at the location was made. There would be a ranking officer ultimately
responsible for the canvassing section, both ensuring that reports were correctly filled out and
filed and that any incomplete reports were followed up on. Neighborhood canvassing is probably
one of the most boring ways to be involved in a high profile case.

17. Analysis Of The Book The Wes Moore
When most people hear the name Wes Moore, they think of the Wes Moore that is a decorated
veteran and author, but when Wes Moore hears his name, he thinks about not himself, but the
Wes Moore serving life in prison for first degree felony murder. They both grew up in similar
settings and both had trouble with the police, but there lives are the complete opposite now.
Most people wonder how that could happen. Each Wes ended up on totally different paths as
evidenced by actions and events that took place in each of their lives. Throughout the following
paragraphs, how each Wes s life slowly became different will become clear. The meaning of the
excerpt from Sir William Ernest Henley s poem has a lot in common with Moore s writing, The
chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have
been his (Moore 180). It has a lot in common because they are both about sadness. Wes is saying
that it is frightening that he could have ended up like prisoner Wes and that it is saddening that
prisoner Wes did not end up like him, while Henley is saying that there it is fear since we do not
know our future. These two pieces also talk about the future. Wes is saying that he has a bright
future in front of him while the other Wes is going to have a sad life in jail. Henley is saying that
by the time your life on Earth ends, you should not be in fear. He is also saying that what

In the novel, Wild Thorns, written by Sahar Khalifeh there are a number of examples of shifting
narrative perspective, which helps Sahar Khalifeh give a more balanced description and view of
the Occupation for the reader. Sahar Khlaifeh conveys shifting narrative perpective through
dialogue and internal monologue. In particular we see different and conflicting views on the
Occupation between Usama and Adil, who are both cousins, with a conflicting relationship. The
dialogue between the two characters provide the two different perspectives, we are able to see the

opinion on the Occupation and the lack of effort shown by Adil to do something about the change

reader the opposing opinions towards the Occupation. All culture gone! All integrity gone! This
example really puts emphasis on the fact that there is disagreement and disgust from Usama
towards the Occupation. Sahar Khalifeh uses exclamatory statements well in this novel to show
characters opinions. Another example of internal thoughts are shown, this time with Adil, adil was
looking at him in digust! . In this part of the text it refers to Adil looking at Usama in disgust. This
is very useful in showing that both characters have conflict between each other which is based on
the Occupation and the contrasting opinions from each other. However, through the use of internal

20. Bend It Like Beckham Belonging Analysis
Belonging is often referred to as acceptance and interconnection within social, cultural, historical
and personal contexts of the wider community. This makes an individual feel comfortable and
content to live among similar people. This is explored in the film Bend it like Beckham by Gurinda
Chaddah, where Jess the protagonist is torn with two different cultures, traditional Indian sikh
culture and modern western culture that alters her sense of belonging over time. Similarly, in the
novel, Who am I by Anita Heiss, Mary is stuck between two different cultures, an aboriginal culture
and modern white culture which creates a conflict in her mind about her real identity and a sense of
belonging.
Firstly, Physical closeness helps individuals to depict their love and increasing comfort zone
towards each other, thus strengthening their sense of belonging. This is represented through the use

25. Special Prison Populations
Corrections are an important part of the criminal justice system and they work in concert with
law enforcement and the courts. Citizens in the United States expect criminals to be monitored,
with some in secured facilities, so they will not fear of becoming continual victim of crime. To
illustrate this expectation further, there are 2.5 million individuals on probation or parole and 1
million individuals in jails or prisons (Morris Tonry, 2013, p. 370). However, does every individual
confined in jails and prisons still need to be there or is there a better way to deal with certain
special prisonpopulations? Due to the large number of prisoners within the correctional system,
certain special populations of inmates do not receive the rehabilitation or care needed to
successfully reintegrate back into society. Additionally, these special populations create an undue
burden on the correctional system in terms of financial costs associated with their confinement.
There are changes that can be made to the criminal justicesystem to accommodate special
populations of inmates. This paper will explore the alternative... Show more content on

26. The Causes And Effects Of Climate Change In Sustainable...
Climate change has been occurring for thousands of years whether naturally or due to human
activity.
According to (May 2017)
Climate change is a change in the usual weather found in a place. This could be a change in how
much rain a place usually gets in a year. Or it could be a change in a place s usual temperature for
a month or season. Climate change is also a change in Earth s climate. This could be a change in
Earth s usual temperature. Or it could be a change in where rain and snow usually fall on Earth.
Initially, climate change was due to natural occurrences however nowadays due to the excessive
amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses being released into the atmosphere as a
result of this human action the global surface temperature is rising drastically which in turn is
causing climate change at an alarming rate. Due to the industrial revolution of the 19th century
there was a drastic change from human labour to machinery and this resulted in the excessive
burning of fossil fuels.
Climate change is the most prevalent challenge in achieving sustainable development. The
evidence for rapid climate change is compelling, not only is it having effects on the natural
environment for example causing rising sea levels as research shows that Global sea level rose
about 8 inches in the last century (Shaftel 2017) , rising temperatures on land and sea, more
droughts and floods and effecting the balance of nature, it is also having destructive effects on

27. Agatha Christie Rationale
LING292 Assignment 3: Part 3 Rationale
The intended audience for my publication are fans of Agatha Christie, old and new as stated in
the subtitle of the publication. There are some posts that are aimed more towards newer fans,
such as Poirot Reading Order for fans who want to know where to start reading her Poirot stories,
or to make sure they don t read a book that spoils another book they have not yet read.
I chose an article on Agatha Christie herself, The Secrets of Agatha Christie by John Curran, as I
imagine readers would be interested in her and why she was successful. The movie review on
Murder on the Orient Express by Leigh Paatsch was a relevant choice as the film has released in
theatres recently so I looked for a mostly positive review for the publication. And I chose the
novel recipe by Kate Young as a fun and interesting post, perhaps for the bigger Christie fans who
knew every detail of her books, or just for fans who wanted to try a bit of cooking.
I edited the directions of the recipe so that it was easier to understand and follow since I imagined
the audience were probably not dedicated chefs. I divided them into much smaller steps and
categorised the steps for legibility and ease of reading on the screen. For example, Making the Ice
Cream became its own heading. Because this is a publication on the internet, I also envisaged a
more international audience and I edited the material to suit this purpose. Cling film is used in the

flexible with your lesson plans is important, especially after gathering information from your
classroom and having a firm understanding of what your students know. Having this information

on, how to group your students, what organizers you may need or word banks that you can use.
If you find that some students are knowledgeable on the topic, they can be used as the teacher
experts in the classrooms. The final part of this Action Step is to do a post assessment. At this
time you can ask the same questions as before or have them write 3 things they learned on a sticky

pinpoint students who learn in a different way, or even find students who have already mastered

29. The Representation of Miss Emily as an Extended Metaphor...
The Representation of Miss Emily as an Extended Metaphor in Faulkner s A Rose for Emily
The short story, A Rose for Emily, took place in the southern town of Jefferson sometime in the
beginning of the twentieth century. One could say that Miss Emily lived and died under certain
circumstances that could compare to how the Confederacy lived and died as a result of the Civil
War. Miss Emily could represent an extended metaphor for the Old South and its traditions and
customs. Faulkner wrote her character and her appearance, the town, her relationship with the
world, and even her home, to reflect the social background of the Old South, as defined as the time
period between the Colonial Era and Reconstruction.
Emily is a person that with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example that furthers this conclusion is the concept of Emily having to pay taxes, and her refusal
to do so; the North imposed taxes that the South did not wish to have to pay just like Miss Emily
and the town of Jefferson.
Emily s appearance somewhat fell from over the years. She used to be a beautiful woman in her
prime, but when the deputy went to her house to ask her about paying taxes, she looked much
different than before she closed herself up into her house. In that aspect, Emily could be a
metaphor for the appearance of the South during its decline. During war, the North started total
warfare; the total destruction of the South. In events such as Sherman s March to the sea, the
Union Soldiers destroyed a lot of the South. Emily appears to be a ruin of what she once was, just
as the South looked beautiful before war and messy during the Reconstruction period. The same
unkemptness and change from magnificent to unsightly could be said about her house as well.
Miss Emily stays in the confines of her own home for a number of years after her father s death.
The only contact she has is with her servant who takes care of her by getting groceries and
helping her around the house. Her isolation from the world is due to the fact that she cannot accept
the fact that her father is dead, for he was all she had in the first place. This reflects

Design issues As like any other building the design of the Empire State building is prone to bad
design. A bad design could pose a major risk as any miscalculation or oversight would mean that
its structure may not be able to handle the stress and enormous loads. Design may show low
probability but will have very high impact if the building comes crashing down. The Empire
State Building was the first commercial construction project to employ the technique of fast track
construction, a commonplace approach today but very new in the early 20th Century. This
technique consists of starting the construction process before the designs are fully completed in
order to reduce delays and inflation costs. In this case, it was imperative to use the fast track
construction method to win the race for the tallest building (2). Force majeure By definition,
force majeure is a superior force , also known as cas fortuit (French) or casus fortuitus (Latin)
chance occurrence, unavoidable accident (11). Force majeure may be repeated heavy hail, or an
earthquake, or a hurricane. The building is intended to stand for some years should be able to meet
these challenges. A flexible structure may avoid destruction in an earthquake, while a more solid
building with good masonry would be destroyed. Earthquakes can also result in foundation
problems when moist filled land liquefies (13). The Empire State

Winston s personal utopia was most likely the bedroom he and Julia rented from Mr.
Charrington. Like in Snow Crash, Winston s desperation with reality lead him to create his own
utopia where he could get a glimpse of freedom and happiness. The dystopia in 1984 is
everything else outside of the bedroom in Mr. Charrigtons shop. The Book of Eli does not have

33. Analysis Of Punishment By Seamus Heaney
In Heaney s Punishment , his poem remarks specifically on the case of a young bog person,
known as the Windeby girl, and its barbarous nature and the connection to many of the atrocities
that were carried out upon Catholic girls at the time. The Windeby girl was an archaeological
find in Germany in 1952; she was said to be an adulteress, and she was shaved, blindfolded and
drowned in the bog (Lange). The Windeby girl was said to be found next to her lover , although
this is speculated. Heaney is known by some as an archaeologist because of his poems which
integrate the rich history of his country but also the events as in Punishment . The speaker of the
poem, Heaney himself, writes with empathy and sorrow for the young girl who was brutally
violated for a crime directed toward her gender. He places himself as a witness, identifying with her
torture, but confessing that he was just that, a witness. Yet, he says that although he is outraged by
the punishment carried out upon the women, he understand[s] the exact and tribal, intimate
revenge (Stallworthy). This phrase tips the morality scale of the author and makes the reader
wonder how the speaker, or Seamus Heaney, could understand a brutality such as this? Or rather,
does Seamus Heaney s understanding actually mean that he could not expect any less from the men
of the Irish Republican Army, who committed these heinous acts? While this question may be left
up to interpretation, the message still runs clear:

The personal essays Living Under Circe s Spell written by Matthew Soyster and On Being a

that suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, otherwise known as MS, through the use of pathos, and
patterns. Both of these authors appeal to the readers emotions while talking about their life and
how difficult it is to live with such a disease. Soyster and Mairs create patterns as they
continually talk about their past lives. They always refer back to the past, which shows the reader
how some people can live in the past or can simply learn from it. The authors bring up different
opinions of living with MS by creating their tones when using pathos and patterns. Soyster and
Mairs use pathos and patterns to strengthen their essays and convey their lives as a person suffering

calcium in plaque on the walls of the arteries of the heart (coronary arteries). This test is used to

The police were not protected from being a homicide victim even though capital punishment was on
their side and supposedly protecting them. (Bailey, Peterson) According to statistics gathered
from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the areas of the country that had a lower enforcement
of capital punishment were actually a place where the police officers were safer than in the
regions where the capital punishment was heavily enforced. (Death Penalty in Focus) For
instance, the number of murders of an officer of the law in the southern states between the years
of 1989 and 1998 was an alarming two hundred and ninety two total deaths. Averaging the
number of murders over the ten year period, 29.2 police officers were killed each year, and this
was in a region where the death penalty was heavily enforced. (Death Penalty in Focus, Table 1.1)
On the other side of the pole, the states in the northeast region had as little as eighty murders in the

the death penalty acts as deterrence for an act of murder. If deterrence is what is supposed to

write down his musical ideas. Scholars who have studied these
sketchbooks have discovered the agonizingly long process that the
composer went through in order to perfect his melodies, harmonies, and
instrumentations.
Three Periods of Work
Most critics divide Beethoven s work into three general periods,
omitting the earliest years of his apprenticeship in Bonn. Although some
pieces do not fit exactly into the scheme, these divisions can be used
to categorize the composer s work.
The first period, from 1794 to about 1800, consists of music whose

40. Hobbit Movie Comparison
Film Review: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies
When The Hobbit began entitled as The Unexpected Journey in late 2012, its trip to become a
movement picture version, only two films were considered: 2012 s The Hobbit: An Unexpected
Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again. With the remarkable success of both movies,
Peter Jackson decided to come up with the trilogy last year s The Hobbit: The Desolation Of
Smaug, as well as altered the title of the ending film to The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five
Armies. There have been some complaints from fans about that conclusion, but regardless, it s
safe to say The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies brings a lot of enjoy and fun for its viewer.
Where The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug ends, we actually see said sadness take place but
it rapidly grants a way to the last film s main description thrust. With the empire of Man and
Elves trying to resolve the promises that Thorin Oakenshield, made in the previous parts, the
recently crowned dwarf king select to let the empire fend for themselves. He has his gold, and as
soon as he discovers the Arkenstone, he ll be pleased to just lord over the mountain. Of course, the

If The Hobbit trilogy had depended on the two movie plan, Peter Jackson could have preserved his
Middle earth winning strip, as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey had a great storyline set up that
pushed everything into excitment. You can tell examining this movie that The Hobbit legacy could
have been a lean monster of action and experience without added so much total screen time,
because if you break up rudiments of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug between the opening
and closing segment, you could have had two actually excellent three plus hours

41. Imperialism And Militarism
It may be difficult to lay the blame of an entire world war on a singular country, but many
historians agree that Austria Hungary and Germany carry the weight of the blame of for the
occurrence of World War I. The historians Professor John Rohl (University of Sussex), Dr.
Annika Mombauer (The Open University), and Professor Gary Sheffield (University of
Wolverhampton) all agree that Germany s support of Austria Hungary with the blank cheque
when they declared war on Serbia forced the hand of other countries to join. Imperialism and
militarism played a large role in the eagerness for Germany and Austria Hungary to begin a war.
Militarism was a large in factor in why both Germany and Austria Hungary were more than
willing to declare war on Serbia. Both countries had knowledge that it would most certainly
escalate into a European war at the very least, given Russia s interest in preventing the expansion of
the Austria Hungary empire further into the Balkans. Dr. Annika Mombauer believes that war was
avoidable; Germany put pressure on Austria Hungary to declare war, viewing it as a favorable
opportunity to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believd the war would result in a swift and crushing victory for the Triple Alliance (consisting
of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy). In addition to militarism, imperialism was also a
contributing fact to why Austria Hungary and Germany were both eager to declare war on
Serbia. Both countries had interests in securing more territory in the Balkans. As pointed out by
Professor Gary Sheffield and Dr. Mombauer, they were aware that Russia would not stand idle to
let the Triple Alliance expand into the Balkans. Russia desired to prevent this from occurring as
they themselves were unable to establish a presence in the Balkans and did not wish to see anyone
else do so, least of all

42. Dances With Wolves And Avatar
Dances with Wolves and Avatar: Similar but Different
Dances with Wolves and Avatar are thought to be very different, but they are actually more similar
than viewers may realize. First off, these are two must see films! The viewer walks away with much
more than just having seen a movie. Both of these movies encourage cultural understanding,
motivate, and teach individuality.
Dances with Wolves and Avatarare alike in plot and cultural significance. These two films are alike
in plot because in both films, two men, John Dunbar and Jake Sully, willingly put themselves into a
completely new culture and lifestyle. They learn to adapt to the differences and learn a new way
of life in order to survive. For example, in the movies Dances with Wolves and Avatar, John
Dunbar and Jake Sully had to learn each tribe s way of life, such as their language, hunting, and
self defense. Eventually, the two men are recognized as part of a tribe, for John the Sioux Indian
Tribe and for Jake the Na vi Tribe.
These two films are alike in cultural significance because they both show the viewer not to
believe all that is said about individuals, races, and cultures. In the two films, both tribes were
first looked at as evil enemies, but once the two men each took the time to get to know the
individuals and the tribes as a whole, they realized that it was all just a lie. The Sioux and Na vi
were actually nice people who just felt threatened by the outsiders. The tribes needed to look
intimidating so
