Questions On The Smart Agriculture System
6 System Use Case This Section will describe two use cases for the smart agriculture
system implemented for this project. Each example will first describe the
shortcomings and wastes of current agriculture systems. Then it will be shown how
the smart agriculture system can be used to optimize that system through the use of
data and data analysis
6.1 Use Case 1: Wine Vineyards Aside from technology and software development,
one of the most profitable industries in the San Francisco Bay Area is wine. Wine is
a very valued drink ranging in price from a few dollars, to a few hundred, to even a
thousand dollars per bottle. Wines from California are an industry leader, accounting
for over $25 billion dollars in sales in 2015 [9]. Wine ... Show more content on

Vineyard owners were forced to become experts in a wide variety of fields so that
they could use their best intuition to select locations and provide the best growing
conditions for their grapes [9]. This is where having a smart agricultural system can
make a huge impact. Each environmental condition that the grape vine experiences
can become a data point that can be tracked monitored and archived. Using this data
the vineyard owner can determine what conditions make for the best grapes. The
goal of the smart agriculture system is to optimize the taste of the grape. Grape taste
varies year to year, season to season, and region to region. Each vineyard has unique
conditions that will result in unique grapes. These conditions are almost impossible to
recreate. However, with the use of an extensive sensor network it may be possible to
quantify the growth environments and correlate that to wine vintages that were
especially good. These growth conditions could then be applied to green houses that
would grow the grapes within a controlled environment.
6.2 Use Case 2: Pistachio Trees Another common crop grown in California are
pistachios. Pistachios grow on trees and require hot, dry summers and mild winters.
In addition to ideal weather conditions pistachios also require a huge amount of water
to grow. If pistachios are not given enough water during their production months the
pistachios will produce blanks.

The Second Tradition of Thanksgiving Essay
When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of
becoming total gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount
of food. Others might think of the time spent with family and friends. The whole
basis of the holiday is family togetherness, fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings
received during the previous year.
Every family has their own unique way of spending time together with loved ones
only seen during the holidays. In the Stock home, there is only one thing we enjoy
doing. Sure, like every other family we have our grand and elaborate dinner, which
is composed of all the greatest delicacies my mother and grandmother can whip up.
Of course, as is expected, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all a truly intelligent mind could be playing video games or running around
endlessly with your cousins playing your own football games and other sports. I
followed this train of thought for many Thanksgivings, until the point when I
realized that I did not have an inextinguishable amount of energy any more, and that
I could not be part of that much physical activity without feeling as old as my father
the next morning. So after weighing these problems, I realized that the men in my
immediate family and I should really consider spending time with family members
we do not see on a regular basis. I have never been particularly close with any one in
my extended relation, so I figured what better way strengthen my relationship with
my family than to share in this excellent tradition. (Stock)
I sat with these guys and started discussing actual topics, more than Hey, how you

relatives with similar interests than I expected.
So, after a few quarters and a lot of snacks we lay back and relax from that stuff in
turkey. It is unbelievable how many snacks a stuffed person can eat even after a huge
dinner. While watching a football game a full stomach does not register. As the
afternoon slowly turns into night, we sink even further into our

This association works with a variety of members from all different fields that are
interested in PBS. Their mission is to reduce negative behavior by creating and
devolving a system that supports and implements positive behavior. The conference

The location was very central in that it was very accessible for all. It was good to
have all the sessions in one location. The hotel was more than capable of handling the
amount on sessions and the amount of people attending. It was very easy to get
around the hotel and the time given between each session was more than enough to
make it on time to the next. Each presenter provided a variety of information and
resources to support their sessions. It was very easy to follow the PowerPoint
presentations with it readily available on tablets. This was another great
experience; the conference provided free Wi Fi for all the attendees. Since we
were visiting from Canada this was an essential to download all the resources
provided. I was very impressed with the phone app that was created for the
conference. The app contained sessions, locations, maps, and resources. A very
user friendly app allowed you to choose your sessions, and add to your personal
calendar and see the resources that would be available during the session. It was
easy to download the PowerPoint presentations and have the ready for the sessions.
This app also let you communicate and create networks with other teachers attending

Turning Points In The Last Supper
Since the beginning of time, whether we practice religion or not, there seems to be
a leader that the people in general follow or look up to bring comfort in our
existence to society. The Last Supper was created by an Italian artist by the name
of Leonardo Da Vinci in the fifteenth century. It is quite a distinctive piece and has
a great deal of detail for it being a fresco. More than half of the world is familiar with
The Last Supper. With Christianity being a dominant religion throughout the world,
the paintingconnects with the bible noting that some of the major turning points took
place during The Last Supper. It would be depicted as Jesusfinal dinner with his
disciples. Liberty Leading the People was created in 1830 by an artist by... Show

Hundreds of years apart and yet the two paintings have so much in common as
well as their differences. No matter the date of the work the quality and meaning
will always stand the test of time. The Last Supper may not have had death painted,
but the sorrow that the disciples told the story of their leader coming in the near
future. In the end victory would be in the death of Jesus as he was put here to die
for man. Lady Liberty presents death, defeat, glory, and accomplishment at the
same time. Eugene Delacoix presented Liberty Leading the People it a dark way to
show what had to take place in order to get the victory. In the Last Supper Judas
shows how hard it is to resist the temptation of overturning his Lord and Savior for
the bearings of silver and gold, while at the same time Lady Liberty brings
temptation of murder to fight for what we believe is right. Two different day in ages
as well as two different cultural background shows the instilment of human nature
and what we have used to progress as a

The question being debated in the business field is who is to blame in this scenario,
and if it is Stewart, should her punishments be so severe? Some seem to think that
the charges and trails are ridiculous. The Securities and Exchange Commission
should leave people like Stewart alone and concentrate on real corporate crooks.
(Glassman). However others look at it as something that cannot be tolerated and
believe that if she is not punished to the maximum, then others will not be afraid to
follow in her footsteps. On the other hand there are many people that think that
people who are high up on the corporate chain should be prosecuted just as hardly if
not harder then regular criminals because of all their benefits from the government.
As for the average high class citizen they believe that Martha should be prosecuted
because they think she is wrong and giving their class of people a bad name, which
black balls the whole brokerage industry as well as certain firms such as Merrill lynch
. Juror of the Stewart Trail, Chappell Hartridge, says Maybe it s a victory for the
little guys who lose money in the Market because of these kinds of transactions, Or
maybe its just a sigh of relief to the rest of the guys who are doing the wrong thing

How Much Power Should the American Government Yield
A dispute widespread amongst the citizens of the United States of America is on
government, and more specifically on how much power the government should
yield. The philosophical question I will be posing in this article is what should the
government have the power to do . All the way to the left, we have liberals who
believe in a big governmentand a government that is involved with supporting the
people and curbing social inequalities and social hierarchywhile supporting social
equality. On the other side of the spectrum we have right wing conservatives who
prefer a government that is small and call for reduced social spending, less
regulation. In addition, they accept social hierarchy and social inequalityciting that
social hierarchy and social inequality are inevitable. With this essay, I want to focus
on if the government has the power to invade your privacy. Currently reactions has
been wild ever since former NSA analyst Edward Snowden leaked the massive
PRISM internet surveillance program used by the NSA to collect data on citizens of
the U.S. The philosophical question what should the government have the power to
do correlates with the NSA because the NSA is an institution of the government, and
should the government have the power to spy on its citizens without their knowledge
and without a warrant for the sake of national security. Foucault goes through the way
governments have attempted to control populations throughout history, and how
power has exercised
Nicaragu A Democratic System
Nicaragua: one of Central s America s largest countries gets it name derived from
Nicarao a Nahuatl name that means next to the water (Belli, Humberto 1985 Pg.
15). Nicaragua is about the size of New York State and spans over 51,000 square
miles. It is bounded by the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, with Honduras and
Costa Rica bordering. The estimated population is about 5 million as of 2011 and a
national census has not been done since then. The median age of Nicaraguans is 15
because of the number of adult lives lost in the hurricane of 1998 and the Sandinistas
revolution of 1979. Wealth in Nicaraguais measured by how much land a person

Poor Nicaraguans have worse social indicators when it comes to education than
those at a higher income bracket. Quit ironic in a sense, but in Nicaragua access to
education is universal, school is free for everyone, but many economic and social
berries block the path to education. As a result, many of the poor children do not
even complete primary school due to late entrance to school, high repetition of
classes, and the low quality of the schools. Another key factor that has lead to the
poverty and suffering of the people is the Nicaraguan health system. The Nicaraguan
Health system has been moving from a socialist system to a more modularized
system inching towards universal health care for its people. The total population is
covered by a social health program. In January 2007, the government introduced the
so called Free Health Care Policy (polГtica de gratuidad). It is controlled by the
MHO Ministry of Health Organization and they oversee the program. It is more of a
mixture of a Bismarck, National Health Insurance Model, and Out of pocket style
health care model and only employed citizens are required to have the health
program. The employers
Warfare In The Aztec Society
When one mentions the Aztecs, the first image that pops into most people s minds
is of barbaric people that participated in human sacrifice. It s simple to see this
ancient society as barbaric and inhumane. It s simple to stay narrow minded and
refuse to view them as anything else. In reality, the Aztec society was complex. Their
beliefs, festivities, innovations, trainings, and social class structures all points toward
a sophisticated civilization. The foundation that each of these examples were built
upon was warfare. From midwives yelling war cries to welcome the newborn future
warriors, to the special paradise designated for warriors after death, war dominated
the Aztecs lives from birth until death (Clendinnen 56, 84).

The Aztecs employed flank and encirclement tactics, so they could surround their
enemy and debilitate them by individually knocking them unconscious. The main
weapons that contributed to their goal was the slingshot, which could knock
enemies unconscious from a distance and the maquahuitl (also known as the
macana) which was an oak club that was edged with obsidian or flint blades and
had a flat edge (Daniel 190). The Aztecs main goal in warfare was to capture as
many enemy soldiers, so they could later use them as sacrifices to appease their god;
hence, knocking them unconscious instead of using a killing blow to a vital body

Abstract The purpose of this project was to determine the minimal inhibitory
concentration of our given antibiotic called tetracycline. Tetracycline is a
bacteriostatic agent and instead of directly killing the bacteria, it prevents the growth
mainly by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins. We hypothesized that the minimal
inhibitory concentration for our test would range from 4 g/mL to 8 g/mL. This
process spanned across four lab meetings located in a biology lab at Duncan Hall of

Introduction
Disease and plague had once completely and disastrously overwhelmed humanity for
countless years. During the era when medicine was not as advanced and sickness and
disease had run rampant, people had resorted to dangerous, unethical and unsanitary
methods of healing. Desperate to alleviate the pain, doctors and healers of the time
did what they could to make the pain and discomfort of the ill disappear. Though the
intentions of many doctors was to heal the sickly, they did not realize there was a
more scientific approach of solving many of their problems. On a microscopic level,
there are bacteria and microbes that are attacking the body, causing diseases to ensue.
In order to deal with the issue at hand, scientists had to figure out what could be used
to fight these particular pathogens and not just what, but how much of these
antimicrobials should be used. To better understand this idea of knowing the proper
dosage needed for an antibiotic, we exercised this concept of minimal inhibitory
concentration. The minimal inhibitory concentration is the lowest amount of the
antimicrobial concentration needed to prevent the noticeable growth of the
microorganism after incubating the sample overnight. Each group was given a
specific antibiotic of

Disadvantages Of Patio Umbrellas
One of the most common features of any outdoor dГ©cor is the use of patio
umbrellas. We see them everywhere; from the simplest ice cream man to the most
contemporary, sophisticated dining outlet in the heart of the city. There are a few
reasons why patio umbrellas are so favoured over other types of outdoor furnishing:
1. They are affordable. Unlike floor tiling, wall paneling or paintings which can be
extremely expensive, outdoor umbrellas are relatively cheap. Considering the fact
that they can create that exact same effect we want for our outdoor spaces, it is no
wonder they are usually a first option.
2. They are very accessible. It is also very easy to find these umbrellas. Almost any
shop that does refurbishing will have some available for our perusal, or at least be
able to direct us to one reliable source.
3. Patio umbrellas can be personalized or custom made at a relatively cheap cost. In a
commercial setting, branding is everything. And having an outdoor umbrella on the
premises means we have an extra vehicle for marketing our name. This can be done
at a reasonable price quite easily, which reduces the stress of us having to carve our
names into the furniture or pay artists an exorbitant price for graffiti branding on the
floor tiles.
4. They are user friendly. There is no need for complicated manuals or help from
any professional (except for some particular types of offset umbrellas) in the daily
setting up and down of these umbrellas. Patio umbrellas for
U.s. R And D Industrial Policy
U.S. R D Industrial Policy While the United States touts free market policies as
main guiding principles, U.S. policy makers have actively used research and
development (R D) industrial policies to maintain and grow the U.S. economy.
There are two types of R D, also known as research and experimentation (R E),
funding models; one is direct federal research dollars given to industry, typically for
basic research, and the other in the use of taxcredits for R D activities. Tax credit
policies began in 1981 as part of the Economic Recovery Tax Act (Talley, 2011).
The U.S. has long funded R D, however this funding has steadily decreased with the
total in 1976 of just over 1.2% of GDP with dropping below .8% of GDP in 2014
(AAAS, 2014a). As of 2013, South Korea, Finland, Japan, Taiwan, and Germany
all outspend the U.S. on direct R D funding relative to GDP (AAAS, 2014b). The
IMF and OECD indicate that R D tax credits are a main growth strategy for the G 20
nations (IMF, 2014). This research topics explores how the United Statesdomestic
industrial policies supporting research and development influence business and
entrepreneurial behaviors within the U.S., which industries has this benefited the
most, overall societal impacts of advancements in technology and automation, and
finally how this supports comparative advantage for the United States as well as
implications for developing nations. The U.S. Congress has funded the R D tax credit

Hard Times and Charles Dickens Essay
The novel Hard Times by Charles Dickens is a fictitious glimpse into the lives of
various classes of English people that live in a town named Coketown during the
Industrial Revolution. The general culture of Coketown is one of utilitarianism. The
school there is run by a man ready to weigh and measure any parcelof human nature .
This man, known as Thomas Gradgrind, is responsible for the exterminationof
anything fanciful and integration of everything pertinent and factual into the young,
pliable minds of Coketown s children. The older characters in the book, and
especially Mr. Bounderby, are examples of how years of leading a utilitarian life can

With the rise of capitalism in England, I think that it is not unreasonable to assume
that the educational model presented in this book could be something that might
have existed in some endowed schools fabricated by wealthy businessmen that had

wished for that doctrine to be spread throughout society for everyone s benefit. In
this light, I would argue that the educational setting portrayed in this book could
have been a reality in places where there were rich, eccentric businessmen. I do
wonder, however, the likelihood of parents actually raising their children as strictly
as the Gradgrinds did. I would think that to deprive your child of all things
entertaining would be much too extreme for any parent to possibly consider as a
doctrine for raising their children by.
The man known as Josiah Bounderby of Coketown is a central character within the

Mr. Bounderby represents the capitalist ideology of rags to riches that was surely

Moreover, such is Quinn s degradation (not only physical but also mental) that the
character does not recognize himself when he sees his reflection in the glass of a
shop window and he is incapable of remembering him as he used to be few months

himself. He thought that he had spotted a stranger in the mirror, and in that п¬Ѓrst
moment he turned around sharply to see who it was (City of Glass, pg. 132).
Nevertheless and in spite of this fragmentation of Quinn s identity, it is not until the
end of the novel, when he realizes he has lost his apartment, his home, than he gives
up any hopes of recovering his original identity, of returning to the old Quinn and he
ends up disintegrating, dying, and in consequence, failing to solve Stillman s case.

While reading it we find several references to other novels such as: Milton s Paradise

Auster has introduced these references or at least the first two to explain the idea
of the language of God , the language that was spoken by men before the fall of the
Tower of Babel. Moreover, from my point of view, Daniel Quinn could be
compared with Don Quixote, whose real name is Alonso Quijano and who is living
under the pseudonym of Don Quixote; so in here we could find a similarity between
these two characters, who have more than one identity and who share the initials of
their names DQ . Furthermore, another similarity that could be found between them
is that both of them have turned crazy because of the books they have read, in the
case of Don Quixote, or because of the books they have written, in the case of Daniel

Premium or discount occurs when nominal interest rate(or coupon rate) of the bond

the required yield, the bond price will reach face value as its approaches the maturity

The Failure Of The League Of Nations
Many may believe that the League of Nations was doomed to failure from the start,
as the doors of their Geneva headquarters opened many say that it was built on
unstable foundations and that the very idea of it was a grave misjudgment by the
powers that were. It s believed to be true that the League of Nations was marred with
many fundamental flaws from the beginning. The League of Nationswas formed
shortly after the end of the First World War. It was an idea that President Wilson
introduced as an international police force to maintain peace and to ensure the
devastating atrocities like the First World War ever happening again. The principle
mission of the League of Nations was to maintain World Peace. Their failure as the
international peacekeeping organization to maintain world peace brought the
outbreak of Second World War. Their failure in policing and preventing peace in
settling disputes throughout Europe, erupted into the most devastating war ever.
Through my analysis of the failures of the League of Nations to maintain world
peace, my arguments will demonstrate the understandings of the reasons and events
that created the most devastating environment for the Second World War. In early
1920 the League officially began working, it was not sufficiently complete in that all
the foundations were not yet in place for it to be built up properly, however is started.
When the league initially started everyone had different notions of what the

the nation schools are debating about whether schools should have a four day school

students and teachers. Students have more time to do homework and projects, and
afterwords students would be able to go outside to play. Other schools tried it, and it
didn t help some students that much because they would take advantage of the fact
they had a three day week and put off homework. Evidence shows students should

The Day Of The Summer Tennis Team
It was the day that I tried out for the summer tennis team. I was so excited because
my mom would be coming to tryouts. It is going to be clear skies from now on.
Maybe this can be something that my mother and I can bond over. Maybe she will
see that I am important like my baby brother, Quinn. I hope she is not mad at me
from the times I talked back to her, I whispered in a very quiet tone. The small
bleachers were speckled with people like chocolate chips on a cookie. Then, tryouts
started. My mom had dropped me off and drove around a block to change my brother
s diaper.
Then the coach shouted my name, Ally, you re up. My heart did a mini flip as the
words echoed through my ears.

I was standing there, in my new bathing suite and I was coming in the house from a

had not come back and I was pacing the ground. Little drops of water hit the ground
from my swim suit like rain dripping on sidewalks. Then it hit me at full power. My
mom was probably catering to my little brother again. I know he was only three
months old but, I am important too, right. I stopped myself because I was doubting
that I was important. I knew then what I need to do. I needed to put all my pride

Log A Short Story
Logan smiled, his monstrous half wolf face displaying a mouthful of sharp, canine
teeth. The tongue that lolled out partway as he chuckled was longer than any human
tongue. Glistening wetly in the moonlight, it snaked down to take another slow,
sensual lick up Holly s sweaty neck.
What s a matter, don t like it when I don t shave? Logan asked. Then his eyes grew
hard and the smile became feral. His hands, already tight on Holly s wrists
squeezed her purposely and he shifted on top of her, rubbing his partially engorged
and inhumanly large cock against her crotch. The subtle series of motions were a
reminder that she was in his power completely, pinned, helpless and under a monster

and futilely struggling against his stronger captor.
Oh, It s happening. Puppy dog is growing up tonight.
Logan stood up, pulling Holly up next to him with ease and keeping a firm grip on
her wrist. Upright and up close, he looked like a horrid mix of human and wolf,
but was even taller and bulkier than his normal human body. Hairier as well, but
also more muscular and with a slight hunch to his posture, as if he would be more
comfortable dropping down to run on those powerful arms. Swaying behind him
was a wolf tail, bushy and long. In twisted symmetry, a dark skinned cock on his
front side seemed to hang down almost a foot in length, even while not fully hard.
The snout on his face had receded almost entirely and the features under the hair that
covered everything except his nose and mouth were definitely those of Logan.

Pre-American Gothic Criticism In Literature
American gothic writers have had much impact on our American society in countless
ways. Gothic writers wrote about many national problems ranging from politics to
mental illnesses. Conventional wisdom claims that gothic writers popularized and
influenced the study of psychology. Steven Hammelman acknowledges that Charles
Brockden Browns short stories caused people to ask questions, to propose theories,
and almost always offer some insight to professionals and those alike. (Hammelman,
Steven. PSYART.com) Pre modern day gothic writers wrote about psychological
issues hundreds of years before professionals addressed mental illnesses, by extension
shows that gothic writers helped popularize and influenced the study of psychology.
The connotation of the word gothic carries the stigma of the emotion melancholy and
the grotesque. ( Stigma, n. OED Online, Oxford University Press, June 2017,
www.oed.com/viewdictionaryentry/Entry/190242. Accessed 16 November 2017.)
Humanitarians and those alike tend to believe that the Gothic genre is to showcase
the darker side of people, the subconscious being of humans. The goal of gothic
writers was to use written word to insert their feelings on certain issues, for example:
Washington Irving s short story Rip Van Winkle focused on politics and biological
determinism; biological determinism is the attribution of sole or excessive
importance to biological factors in the determination of intelligence, behavior,
development, etc.

On October 9th, most people in America rejoice as they get to sleep in later than
usual. October 9th, Columbus day, is a day recognized in American culture as a
day to celebrate the accepted founder of America. October 9th however, is also
Leif Erikson day. Leif Erikson is the Norse viking who really discovered the North
American continent, and he did so over 500 years before Columbus was even
born. Located on the Northernmost of Newfoundland in Canada, there is a village
called L Anse aux Meadows. It is the only known site of a Norse village in North
America outside of Greenland. When it was still a Norse village, there were three
timber and sod longhouses, and also five smaller turf houses. Now, there are only
replicas of those buildings
Literary Themes In The Film Open Range
The film Open Range shares similarities with the literary pieces that have been
read, as well as the primary source given. In the film, as Boss, Charlie, and Buttons
go back to the town after Mouse doesn t join them again, they find him abused by
the ranchers. When they go and confront the marshall, they find him to be
fraudulent. The primary source and the readings had the common theme of white
male corruption. The ranchers and the marshalls were abusive and felt as they
were entitled to power. That attitude and sense of entitlement lead to the
destruction of the relationship between natives and Americans. Another
correspondence is the way those men govern their people. In The Fight of Nez
Perces, the governor could not comprehend such an attitude. He urged Old Joseph
to sign the treaty and receive presents of blankets. (317)The governor had used
manipulation tactics to receive what he wanted. The men in the film governed
similarly. They were physically abusive and and instill fear in their people. Lastly,
although the not same, is the will people to defend their way of life. In The Flight
of the Nez Perces, Old Joseph had refused to sign the governor treaties multiple
times. He had certain beliefs for example, no man owned any part of the earth, and a
man could not sell what he did not own, when the governo wanted their land. Old
Joseph stuck to his beliefs and fought for what he considered to be right. Similarly, in
the film, Boss and Charlie, fight and defend the

For the next three yars he would be the Governor of the Louisiana Territory.

Analysis Of The Book Scientology By L. Ron Hubbard
Scientology is a subculture, but sometimes it s even considered a cult. Scientology
is a belief that was created by L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction author, in 1952. L.
Ron Hubbard was inspired by his self help system called Dianetics. Which he stated
or claimed that Dianetics could help you heal your soul or the human spirit. Hubbard
also claimed that Dianeticscould cure physical illnesses that were brought on by
germs and mental illnesses, which Hubbard said they were contagious. Scientology
has many beliefs that tend to clash with other people such as psychologists. Many
people tend to associate Scientology as the religion of some Hollywood celebrities,

There are also the critics of the church who claim that the number of people who are
involved in Scientology is actually much smaller than the number the experts give.
The number that the church my claim is probably how much money the members
have donated to the church. Scientology has a few fundamentals that says that man is
an immortal human being, his experience extends well beyond a single lifetime, and
his capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized. These few fundamentals
show how Scientology thinks that the man is basically good, and his own salvation
depends on the person. The church of Scientology is an organization that is dedicated
to the rehabilitation or healing of the human spirit. Scientology provides counseling
and rehabilitation programs that are aimed at reaching goals that are important to
the church. They want the person to be aware of a person s spiritual existence. The
church of Scientology does not support or believe in the idea of a god or that gods
exist. The church of Scientology also believes that every person is an immortal
human being or a thetan, whom has lived through many past lives and will continue
to live beyond the death of the body. Thetan in Scientology means the source of life.
Everyone who is in the church of Scientology wants to achieve that state. Being a
thetan or an operating thetan is the ultimate goal of Scientology. Auditing helps you
reach this ultimate goal.

The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire Essay examples
The City state of Rome became a republic in 509 BC. Rome fought numerous battles
to become what it was at its height. It all started with the Punic wars. After they won,
there was no stopping them. By the first century BC, Rome controlled most of the
known world. (Mahoney, 2001) With Augustus Caesar began the two centuries of the
Pax Romana. During this time all of Rome became a collection of states rather than
conquered provinces. The only threats that ever came were from the unorganized
barbarian tribes who s conquest brought nothing to the Empire. (Mahoney, 2001) The
rise of the Roman Empirehad many contributors. These factors would include

Emperor Hadrian concentrated more on how the Empire was run verses making it
larger. He also helped start the Pax Romana (Roman Peace). (Mahoney, 2001) The
fourth factor was the amazing engineers, inventors, and architects in the Empire.
By 200 AD the Romans had built 53,000 miles of roads throughout the Empire. The
very first was built in 312 BC. They also invented sewers, central heating systems,
and the first types of concrete. (Mahoney, 2001) The last of all the factors was
religion. The Romans worshiped around 30,000 gods in all. These included the
major gods and goddesses such as Jupiter, the chief god, Neptune, god of the sea,
Venus, goddess of love and beauty, and Minerva, goddess of wisdom and war.
Each household also worshipped their own protective spirits. After Caesar s death,
the emperors were considered gods too. People all over the empire were allowed
to worship their own local gods as long as they paid homage to the Roman gods.
The people built large temples for worship of their different gods. They looked to
the gods to help protect their families and lives. This also helped when going into
battle. How could you not win with so many gods on your side? (Mahoney, 2001)
As you have read, many things attributed to the rise of the Empire. Many things also
attributed to its fall as well. These included poor leadership, economic trouble, as
well as growth aspects. (Mahoney, 2001) The Empire began with great leaders, but

The point that I m trying to make is that men will adapt to our ever changing
environments if they sense that those changes are crucial, urgent, and does not
threaten their current position (which they feel are safe and secure). People don t
resist changes because they dislike those changes. People resist changes because
they ve encountered previous experiences of change that are unpleasant or have
negative effects on their interests. People resist changes, because they are unsure of
the outcome that those changes will bring. People resist changes because they are
comfortable with the current organizational culture and feel that the new changes
would jeopardize their job security. Now that we know why people resist changes
we need to find a way to diagnose certain signs and how we can manage these
resistance. Every Organization will have different groups that will react differently
to change. By learning proper ways to diagnose we can handle the situation with care
and ease. Essentially, when we talk about resisting changes, we need to start from the
very beginning, when those changes first started to have a clearer diagnose.

The transition starts at the implementation process of change because that is where
we can find restraining forces that can hinder implementation of change. In chapter 5

ANALIZ TEXT INTERPRETATION AND ANALYSIS
TEXT INTERPRETATION AND ANALYSIS
The purpose of Text Interpretation and Analysis is a literary and linguistic
commentary in which the reader explains what the text reveals under close
examination. Any literary work is unique. It is created by the author in accordance
with his vision and is permeated with his idea of the world. The reader s
interpretation is also highly individual and depends to a great extent on his
knowledge and personal experience. That s why one cannot lay down a fixed model

It may also introduce the characters and the conflict, or the potential for conflict.
The exposition may be accomplished in a single sentence or paragraph, or, in the
case of some novels, occupy an entire chapter or more. Some plots require more
exposition than others. A historical novel set in a foreign country several centuries
ago obviously needs to provide the reader with more background information than a
novel with a contemporary setting. COMPLICATION: The complication which is
sometimes referred to as the rising action, breaks the existing equilibrium and
introduces the characters and underlying or inciting conflict (if they have not already
been introduced by the exposition). The conflict is then developed gradually and
intensified. CRISIS: The crisis (also referred to as the climax) is that moment at
which the plot reaches its point of greatest emotional intensity; it is the turning point
of the plot, directly precipitating its resolution. FALLING ACTION: Once the crisis
has been reached, the tension subsides and the plot moves toward its appointed
conclusion. RESOLUTION: The final section of the plot is its resolution; it records
the outcome of the conflict and establishes some new equilibrium or stability
(however tentative and momentary). The resolution is also referred to as

However, that never really transitioned over when Harler came to Morgantown. In

I said in the pregame show with Tony (Caridi) that is Chase starts making shots, he s

Operation Redwing Analyisis
Operation Red Wing On June 28, 2005 The SEAL team, led by LT Michael P.
Murphy and consisting of petty officers Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz and Marcus
Luttrell, were on a mission to kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a Taliban leader who
commanded a group of insurgents known as the Mountain Tigers, west of Asadabad.
The initial counter insurgent mission in Kunar Province, Afghanistan seemed to be
running accordingly with a successful infiltration into enemy territories until local
Goat herders stumbled upon the teams hiding spot. While very concerned with their
own well being the Seal team was unable to verify Hostile intent from the herders.
LT Murphy put the final decision of the goat herder s fate up to vote by the team.
Axelson voted to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a strong need to quickly find the lost SEAL team the US military had over
300 men working in search and rescue operations. Nearly two days after the initial
attack the men had located the downed helicopter and verified that all 16 aboard
had been killed. Despite multiple attempts, the search helicopters were unable to
locate the wounded Navy SEAL and he was soon announced MIA. On July 2, the
village elder of Sabray, carrying a note from Luttrell, went down to seek help from
Camp Blessing, a Marine outpost several miles away. First Lieutenant Matt Bartels
was the first to hear of the lone survivor and soon called up to higher for extraction
plans. With high hopes the US military drew up extensive plans for Luttrell s
retrieval making him a high priority. As if the Taliban heard of the SEALs new
hopes for rescue they were more persistent than ever at getting him as their captive.
The rescue teams of the US closed in upon the village when they suddenly ran into
Luttrell and some of the villagers who were moving him from one hiding place to
another. Six days later the search teams found the bodies of LT Murphy s and GM2
Dietz but STG2 Axelson was never found and is now pronounced KIA. This tragic
event in our nation s current War on terror is arguably the worst of the decade. There

The Book Thief Analysis
The Messenger is a young adult novel by Australian writer Markus Zusak who also
wrote The Book Thief. Ed Kennedy is a very normal 19 year old; he has no major
achievements and he works as a cab driver. After he saves a bank full of people
being robbed he starts receiving playing cards but only aces with addresses and
clues in the mail. As he figures more out about these card he start to realize what
he has to do to help the people in his community whether or not this hurts him. The
book was also written in a very interesting format. Markus Zusak wrote The
Messenger with an Australian tone to it meaning he used a lot of australian lingo
which made it hard to understand what is happening at some points in the book.
For example on, Christmas Ed goes outside to and buys an ice cream because it
was really hot out. Things like this could be a bit confusing at times. There was an
adaptation of the book written in American English that was released in the U.S.
The writing style in this book had another interesting thing about it. In the middle of
a line of dialogue, the author would put a line of thought or something like that
which could make it confusing at times but it also made the story more interesting.
Markus Zusak wrote this book in such an amazing way and gave such a good
message. I think that this book was really about not underestimating yourself and the
fact that you can be more than you think you are. In the beginning of the book Ed is
described as a below average

What Made Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson Part of the Romantic Movement?
The Romantic Movement, or period, was from the year 1828 to about 1865. The
main feature of the American Romantic period was the celebration and praise of
individualism. This time is also considered to be the first period of genuine
American creativity. Emotion, instead of reason, became the largest source of
inspiration and creativity during this period. All of this was a reaction to all of the
constraints that were forced on people during the era of Realism. At this time in
history, America was in a great period of expansion, the writers of the American
Romantic period were discovering that could create a new and vastly different voice

Whitman was able to change people s views on life and was able to give people
something that they wanted and were looking for in his creation of a new writing
style. His writing about real life experiences connected him well with the common
man, which is another aspect of the Romantic period. Whitman is also thought of
as the father of free verse. He enjoyed using free verse because it could further
distinguish him from other writers of the past, and of his time. Emily Dickinson,
who lived from 1830 to 1886, also had a large impact in the American Romantic
period. However, she would never know of the impact she had due to the fact that
her writings were not published until after her death. The subject of her poetry
ranged from religion to nature, which both are large influences to this time. One
poem that fits in very well with this era is Because I Could Not Stop for Death. The
poem begins by saying, Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me;
the carriage held but just ourselves and immortality. This poem deals with human
immortality and what occurs after we die. The desire for knowledge and wanting to
understand what we currently do not are influences in American Romanticism.
Dickinson seemed to be consumed with death and what happens to humans after
death, she even wrote to a priest to ask what the state of mind was of a friend she
had while he was on his deathbed. Her fascination with death played a major role in

Ghislain Magritte Essay
Rene Francois Ghislain Magritte was born November 21, 1898 in Lessines, in the
province of Hainaut, Belgium, he was the oldest child and his father was a
wealthy manufacturer. In 1910 at age 12 he started taking drawing lessons and in
1912 his mother had committed suicide by drowning herself in the river. The
legend says that Magritte was present when they had removed her body was
retrieved and is said to be the source of several of Magritte s painting in 1927 to
1928 of people s clothing covering their faces like his mother. Magritte s painting
can date clear back to 1915 and those early paintings were impressionistic in style.

This era is known to be Renoir Period and during this time he would produce fake

style and he would rarely stray away from this from of work, most of the work that
he had created portrayed similar scenes and recurring themes. Magritte s favorites
happened to be creating a painting inside of a painting, floating rocks, he would also
use many inanimate objects, within a human figure to create the styles that other
artists did not use. Also during Magritte s career he would use famous paintings
created by other artists and put his twist of surrealism on the painting. One of the
most famous paintings he recreated was The Balcony by Edouard Manet. In this
painting Magritte showed his style by changing the images in the original painting to

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities In The Mad...
Joining an extracurricular activity is either a burden or an honor depending on the
student. Imagine being put into an extracurricular activity where you have to learn
many different dances because you will be competing with other schools for the
championship, keep in mind you are dancing with students that you efficiently have
never known. And the worst part, according to the students, girls dancing with boys
and vice versa. Anaheim schools can increase students success by providing free
extracurricular activities that grant them to experience new things that they have
never been through before because it changes their view on things they hadn t even
been given the chance to try or see. As well as providing every student with the
materials that are necessary so that even low income students can get the opportunity
to try them. In the film documentary Mad Hot Ballroom, directed by Marilyn Agrelo,
students are given the opportunity to dance and compete with other schools, while
teams are getting eliminated throughout the competition until they reach the
championship. It s not bad not to make it (Agrelo). This was said from one of the
men in the meeting before the competition. He had mentioned that most of the time
the children are brought down because they eliminated and they do make it. But they
have to look at the bright side, the thing that matters is that they tried and not making
it in the competition doesn t mean they are not good at dancing, but they can make
Theatrical Makeup And Artistic Makeup
Theatrical makeup refers to makeup that is used to assist in creating the appearance
of the characters that actors portray during a theater production. Theatrical makeup
artists apply makeup to performers to reflect the period, setting, and situation of the
role ( Makeup Artists, Theatrical and Performance ). These artists have the skills to
transform people into a desired character using makeup, wigs, and other items. Many
in the profession work in theater and different types of performances, movies, and
television ( Theatrical Makeup Artists: Schools and Careers ). Artists should have
experience in cosmetology, theater, and skin care. Becoming a theatrical makeup

Although the theatrical makeup field does not have standard verification, a high
school diploma and cosmetology degree is recommended. Volunteering, or
receiving an internship at small organizations is highly beneficial for an artist, and
gives the opportunity to gain experience to build up their portfolio. Specific job
tasks are given to makeup artists. Some of these tasks are: establish budgets,
confer with stage directors and performers in order to get a desired look, apply
makeup to enhance, and/or alter the appearance of people, analyze a script, evaluate
environmental characteristics such as lighting plans and venue sizes, design rubber
or plastic prostheses, and much more. These tasks are essential for a theatrical
makeup artist to succeed and complete achievements in their job. Mastering the
level of perfection is necessary for a sublime artist. There are numerous companies
in which theatrical makeup is the main premise. For example, kategriffiths is a
company where they offer experienced professional makeup artists, workshops, and
schools. The founder, Kate Griffith studied for an International Diploma in
Theatrical and Media Makeup qualifying in 1998. In 2004 she had built up a large
school client base and became a full time freelancer, starting her business which has
developed in to what it is today. After just working with schools and colleges, Kate
started to travel further astray, delivering workshops across Southeast England,
London, and
Brilliant Mathematicians from History Shape Math of Today
Mathematicians not only play an important role in society today, but all the
brilliant math minds from the past helped shape every mathematical theory we
know, study, and learn today. Math is used every single day, in every continent,
every country, every state, and every city. It is the way we solve everyday
problems. It is the way we calculate the distance from sun to earth, the way we
determine amount of miles one drives from their home to work, the way we
estimate our grocery bill before approaching a register, the way we figure out the
probability of failing or passing a test, it is the way we as humans approach, solve,
and conclude problems we face day in, and day out. There are a various amount of
languages spoken to communicate in our world today, but math is one that people
from all different parts of planet earth understand, and use for the same purposes.
Mathematicians are in a way, unsung heroes, without their discoveries, we would
be lost, confused, and not nearly as intelligent. Gauss was one of those heroes. Carl
Freidrich Gauss was a German mathematician and a physical scientist also known
as the Prince of Mathematics . He was born on April 30th, 1777 in Brunswick,
Germany and was born to poor, working class parents. His mother was illiterate and
his father was a gardener/brick layer. His father did not want Gauss to attend school,
he wanted him to stay in the family business; but fortunately for him, his mother and
uncle recognized his early talents as
Hillary Clinton Controversy
Hillary Clinton has been involved in politics for over 50 years. During this time,
she has served as first lady from 1993 until 2001, and as senator of New York from
2001 to 2009. In 2009, she was appointed Secretary of State and served in the
position until 2013 (bio.com). She claims to be the most transparent public figure of
modern times (TheHill). An interesting comment from someone who was voted The
Daily Caller s least honest presidential candidate (Daily Caller). It s safe to say that
Hillary s past is filled with controversy. She should not be elected as president
because she has repeatedly lied to the American people. These instances include, but
are not limited to the Whitewater Scandal, her private email server, and the attack...

Between 2009 and 2013 she sent 62,320 emails. Over half of these emails
contained information that was work related. This equates to 21.5 work related
emails per day (Keneally). Although most of these emails contain little information
of importance, 65 are being withheld by the government because they include
classified information (Atlantic). While this may seem like a trivial fact, it is
quite the opposite. In fact, Hillary s actions could potentially break four federal
laws. The first is the Federal Records Act, which requires agencies to keep their
official communications, including work related emails. Knowingly deleting
emails, the same way Hillary did, can result in a fine or one year in prison. The
second law is the Freedom of Information Act, which ensures public access to
agency records and information. This information is supposed to be presented in a
timely manner. However, Mrs. Clinton only presented 55,000 pages of her emails
that she declared relevant . Of course, if she had something to hide in those emails,
she would not have made those public. How then do we trust that she was honest in
the bring forth of these documents? The third law are the regulations regarding the
National Archives. These regulations require information to be readily found when
they are needed (NPR). When Hillary was first questioned about her private server,
she declared that there were no classified emails
Theme Of Conflict In Romeo And Juliet Act 1
Conflict is indeed present throughout Act 1, as it forms the basis of the underlying
plot and gives meaning to the undying love between Romeo and Juliet. Within Act
1 there are 2 types of conflict that are present in the play where Shakespeare
introduce them to us in several situations. Physical and Verbal conflict is the norm
of conflict in Act 1 as both types of conflict aid one another to determine a conflict.
Moreover, specific acts of conflict where seen liable in such the feud that had
aroused between the servants of the 2 families, along with Juliet s inner conflict
whether to love an enemy and lastly the conflict of power shown in the party
between the Head of Capulet and Tybalt. Consequently, these are more of the
renowned conflicts that can be seen in Act 1 and it brings importance to the plot as it

As the party nears to end, Juliet finds out from the Nurse that Romeo is a
Montague, and to her demise that she was loving an enemy. Juliet exacerbates and
ponders whether loving Romeo was the valid choice or not. This can be evidently
seen when the Nurse reveals the identity of Romeo to Juliet His name is Romeo,
and a Montague, The only son of your great enemy ( Shakespeare, Act 1). While
the Nurse had told to Juliet that Romeo is the son of your great enemy, it clearly
shows that Juliet is not allowed to be around him and should not love him for the
sake of her family, yet she still knows and believes that she loves him. Her
insidious love towards Romeo can be seen in the quote My only love sprung from
my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of
love it is to me, That I must love a loathГЁd enemy ( Shakespeare, Act 1). This
clarifies that she is aware that she is loving an enemy and which she refuses to stop
loving him when she should, but she knows that she can t easily subside her feelings

Why People Die Research Paper
Why do people die ?
as they say death is the only guaranteed thing in life and we go day to day living
only to die one day. Young people do not really think about death, but it is
mysterious , we never know when we can die. It can be today, tomorrow or in ten
years and most do not even stop to think the importance of death. We always like to

Death is something we will all go through, but a lot of people including me fear
what will ensue. We all hope it s heaven, but if it is not? Some say nothing occurs
we just cease to exist. This is terrifying to me because I do not want my physical
death to be the final curtain. Others say reincarnation and we are born anew. This
is also scary to me because we still cease to exist. Yes we are born again, but with no
memories of our past life so what does that mean? It means we die, if we can not
remember who we were we will cease to exist. I was against reincarnation mostly
all of my life. My brother passed and I hoped I would one day see him again I slept
at a friends house a couple of months after his death. I remembered he used to beg
me to let him come with me, but I would say no and make him feel bad. I cried for
hours as I lay on the bed. I dreamt of him that night. He was in all white attire and
he told me it is ok we will see each other in two months . I woke up the next day and
balled. Each day after I prayed to God and asked what the meaning of this dream
was. I could not spend a day without thinking of him. Just before the two month mark

Robots. However, Asimov reveals the relationship between humans and robots in his

The story of Robbie , shows that people are afraid of robots. At the beginning of the
story Robbie and Gloria were playing hide and seek in the yard and in this part, the
relationship between Robbie and Gloria is strange because Gloria is over controlling
Robbie and she is mean to him and does not treat him nicely, especially, when She

that he cannot talk, but readers can see that Mrs. Weston is afraid of him, I won t

Abstract
James Allen proves that it is possible to pack dozens of valuable nuggets in a small
package. The language is often lofty and dated, which in other works detracts from
the material. In this case it reads like the writings of a wise old scholar, enhancing the
content and its weight.
More than just an essay on positive thinking, Allen walks the reader through
applications for personal growth, putting thought into action, using personal gifts to
achieve right purposes, persevering to develop character, sacrificing and putting ...

Looking For Zora Neale Hurston
In the essay Looking for Zora by Alice Walker. The author talks about her search
for Zora Neale Hurston, and what she uncovers while looking for Zora. As she
explains in her essay, a brilliant writer who was underappreciated and in the most
part unknown, even to the people who lived in the town she was born in. All of this
as well as all the misinformation surrounding her death and burial. Throughout Alice
Walkers search she discovers many new things about Zora, such as parts of her
personality.
Alice Walker went through her search of Zora unknowing of what was to come and
found many things about the harlem renaissance author that no one knew about.
She found out that Zora was not recognized for what she had done and written as
no one has really ever read or seen any of her works. Attributed mostly to the
problems regarding racial segregation. A quote put in by Alice Walker in the essay
The gusto and flavor of Zora Neale Hurston s story telling, for example, long before
the yarns were published in Mules and Men and other books, became local legends
which might... have spread further under different conditions. (Bontemps, Personals)

Her interactions with white people and how she thought of them as well as the
way she wrote didn t appeal to everyone as it may have been controversial for the
time. However, it doesn t distract from the point of how important her work is
through the messages it offers. Another surprising thing is the way in which the
record of how she passed were kept. First there was a problem involving her cause of
death then there was a problem of where she was buried. It also seems that no one
ever really knew of Hurston or who she
Border Policies on Tribal Lands
Initially, borders were used to define a state s territory, which in return was used to
measure a state s power (Madsen 280). Within a territory a state is said to have
sovereignty over the land and the people it inhabits. The concept of state sovereignty
can be attributed to nationalism. As nationalism has risen in importance since the
mid 18th century, so have borders. Up until the Europeans arrived in the Americas in
1492, borders were non existent, at least not in a modern definition of a state border.
However, since then, there has been a severe transformation of the definition of
borders, but more importantly, also in the existence of borders in the Americas.
Today borders are increasingly analyzed in terms of their social implications as
instruments of state power and reflection of societal discourse and prejudice (Maden
280). The United Statesof America has 7,400 miles of international boundary
dividing U.S. territory from Canada in the North and Mexico in the South. (Butts
383). While the border policy has toughened since the 1980s/1990s due to Nixon s
War on Drugs policy, border control has become even more restrictive after 9/11
(Tonra 221, 239 240). One of the aftermaths of 9/11 was the enactment of the Home
Security Act in 2001, and the resulting establishment of the Department of Home
Security in 2002 (Butts 374, EagleWomen 33 34, Singleton 40, Tonra 221).
According to Attorney General John Ashcroft our homeland security remains
threatened so long as
Problem Of Deforestation
Deforestation is a genocide of trees, a modern day environmental plague. The
clearing of millions of trees each day. Not only hurting the environment, but all types
of animals, plants, and indigenous peoples that survive and live off of the forests.
The forests we destroy day by day.
For our own selfish reasons. Deforestation is a major problem in our day and age, by
killing the millions of trees that live on our planet, we will kill the earth. Trees are
apart of our natural environment, they produce the oxygen we all need to breathe. If
we as whole continue to kill our
Earth, tree by tree. We will be faced with global desertification and many other
environmental problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase
economic development. The increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams,
agricultural farming, and much more. The history of land use concerning
deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the Amazon,
cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having
over 200 million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the
world. Cattle ranching takes up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of
trees that have to be cut down to make space for these humongous ranches. It s the
same thing with regular farming. Small farmers will clear a few acres of trees then
burn them, just so they can have room for their farms.

Harold Godwinson Essay
True King of England
Harold Godwinson
Thomas Faulkner
Harold Godwinson, King of England reigned from 6 January 1066 until 14 October
when he died in the Battle of Hastings in the same year. He was fighting against the
Normans who were invading England and led by William the Conqueror. Harold
Godwinson, King of England died from an arrow that struck him in the eye. Harold
Godwinson succeeded and was chosen by Edward the Confessor. William the Duke
of Normandy and Harald Hardrada, King of Norway thought that they should have
succeeded Edward the Confessor instead of Harold Godwinson. Harold Godwinson
was the last Anglo Saxon King of England and therefore I believe the last true
Englishman to claim the throne.
There are three main reasons why I believe that Harold Godwinson was the final
true king of England. Firstly, Harold was powerful and ambitious. Secondly, he was
an excellent soldier who had the skills to lead England into battle against the
Norman invaders. Finally and most importantly he was the last Anglo Saxon to rule
England and therefore the last true king of England. He was chosen by the Witan
who were a council of 60 of the most powerful noblemen.

William was holding his nephew hostage and said he would only be released if
Harold swore to be loyal to him and help William become King. This means that
William of Normandy was afraid that Harold Godwinson was going to win the Battle
of Hastings and not him which is quite ironic when you know who won the Battle of

  • 2. Questions On The Smart Agriculture System 6 System Use Case This Section will describe two use cases for the smart agriculture system implemented for this project. Each example will first describe the shortcomings and wastes of current agriculture systems. Then it will be shown how the smart agriculture system can be used to optimize that system through the use of data and data analysis 6.1 Use Case 1: Wine Vineyards Aside from technology and software development, one of the most profitable industries in the San Francisco Bay Area is wine. Wine is a very valued drink ranging in price from a few dollars, to a few hundred, to even a thousand dollars per bottle. Wines from California are an industry leader, accounting for over $25 billion dollars in sales in 2015 [9]. Wine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vineyard owners were forced to become experts in a wide variety of fields so that they could use their best intuition to select locations and provide the best growing conditions for their grapes [9]. This is where having a smart agricultural system can make a huge impact. Each environmental condition that the grape vine experiences can become a data point that can be tracked monitored and archived. Using this data the vineyard owner can determine what conditions make for the best grapes. The goal of the smart agriculture system is to optimize the taste of the grape. Grape taste varies year to year, season to season, and region to region. Each vineyard has unique conditions that will result in unique grapes. These conditions are almost impossible to recreate. However, with the use of an extensive sensor network it may be possible to quantify the growth environments and correlate that to wine vintages that were especially good. These growth conditions could then be applied to green houses that would grow the grapes within a controlled environment. 6.2 Use Case 2: Pistachio Trees Another common crop grown in California are pistachios. Pistachios grow on trees and require hot, dry summers and mild winters. In addition to ideal weather conditions pistachios also require a huge amount of water to grow. If pistachios are not given enough water during their production months the pistachios will produce blanks.

  • 6. The Second Tradition of Thanksgiving Essay When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount of food. Others might think of the time spent with family and friends. The whole basis of the holiday is family togetherness, fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year. Every family has their own unique way of spending time together with loved ones only seen during the holidays. In the Stock home, there is only one thing we enjoy doing. Sure, like every other family we have our grand and elaborate dinner, which is composed of all the greatest delicacies my mother and grandmother can whip up. Of course, as is expected, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all a truly intelligent mind could be playing video games or running around endlessly with your cousins playing your own football games and other sports. I followed this train of thought for many Thanksgivings, until the point when I realized that I did not have an inextinguishable amount of energy any more, and that I could not be part of that much physical activity without feeling as old as my father the next morning. So after weighing these problems, I realized that the men in my immediate family and I should really consider spending time with family members we do not see on a regular basis. I have never been particularly close with any one in my extended relation, so I figured what better way strengthen my relationship with my family than to share in this excellent tradition. (Stock) I sat with these guys and started discussing actual topics, more than Hey, how you doing? and ending the conversation there. I realized I have a lot more interesting relatives with similar interests than I expected. So, after a few quarters and a lot of snacks we lay back and relax from that stuff in turkey. It is unbelievable how many snacks a stuffed person can eat even after a huge dinner. While watching a football game a full stomach does not register. • 8. Turning Points In The Last Supper Since the beginning of time, whether we practice religion or not, there seems to be a leader that the people in general follow or look up to bring comfort in our existence to society. The Last Supper was created by an Italian artist by the name of Leonardo Da Vinci in the fifteenth century. It is quite a distinctive piece and has a great deal of detail for it being a fresco. More than half of the world is familiar with The Last Supper. With Christianity being a dominant religion throughout the world, the paintingconnects with the bible noting that some of the major turning points took place during The Last Supper. In the end victory would be in the death of Jesus as he was put here to die for man. Lady Liberty presents death, defeat, glory, and accomplishment at the same time. Eugene Delacoix presented Liberty Leading the People it a dark way to show what had to take place in order to get the victory. In the Last Supper Judas shows how hard it is to resist the temptation of overturning his Lord and Savior for the bearings of silver and gold, while at the same time Lady Liberty brings temptation of murder to fight for what we believe is right. Two different day in ages as well as two different cultural background shows the instilment of human nature and what we have used to progress as a

Stewart instead has the spotlight on her for crimes of insider trading. A tip from her former broker Peter E. Bacanovic, persuaded her into selling her IMClone stock after sharing information about a close friend of Stewart s getting rid of his shares. The question being debated in the business field is who is to blame in this scenario, and if it is Stewart, should her punishments be so severe? Some seem to think that the charges and trails are ridiculous. The Securities and Exchange Commission should leave people like Stewart alone and concentrate on real corporate crooks. (Glassman). However others look at it as something that cannot be tolerated and believe that if she is not punished to the maximum, then others will not be afraid to follow in her footsteps. On the other hand there are many people that think that people who are high up on the corporate chain should be prosecuted just as hardly if not harder then regular criminals because of all their benefits from the government. As for the average high class citizen they believe that Martha should be prosecuted because they think she is wrong and giving their class of people a bad name, which black balls the whole brokerage industry as well as certain firms such as Merrill lynch . Juror of the Stewart Trail, Chappell Hartridge, says Maybe it s a victory for the little guys who lose money in the Market because of these kinds of transactions, Or maybe its just a sigh of relief to the rest of the guys who are doing the wrong thing still and wanted to have someone else get caught in the process and are just happy that it wasn t them. But not to play devils advocate but maybe its just the issue of having a
  • 10. How Much Power Should the American Government Yield A dispute widespread amongst the citizens of the United States of America is on government, and more specifically on how much power the government should yield. The philosophical question I will be posing in this article is what should the government have the power to do . All the way to the left, we have liberals who believe in a big governmentand a government that is involved with supporting the people and curbing social inequalities and social hierarchywhile supporting social equality. On the other side of the spectrum we have right wing conservatives who prefer a government that is small and call for reduced social spending, less regulation. In addition, they accept social hierarchy and social inequalityciting that social hierarchy and social inequality are inevitable. With this essay, I want to focus on if the government has the power to invade your privacy. Currently reactions has been wild ever since former NSA analyst Edward Snowden leaked the massive PRISM internet surveillance program used by the NSA to collect data on citizens of the U.S. The philosophical question what should the government have the power to do correlates with the NSA because the NSA is an institution of the government, and should the government have the power to spy on its citizens without their knowledge and without a warrant for the sake of national security. Foucault goes through the way governments have attempted to control populations throughout history, and how power has exercised

Poor Nicaraguans have worse social indicators when it comes to education than those at a higher income bracket. Quit ironic in a sense, but in Nicaragua access to education is universal, school is free for everyone, but many economic and social berries block the path to education. As a result, many of the poor children do not even complete primary school due to late entrance to school, high repetition of classes, and the low quality of the schools. Another key factor that has lead to the poverty and suffering of the people is the Nicaraguan health system. The Nicaraguan Health system has been moving from a socialist system to a more modularized system inching towards universal health care for its people. The total population is covered by a social health program. In January 2007, the government introduced the so called Free Health Care Policy (polГtica de gratuidad). It is controlled by the MHO Ministry of Health Organization and they oversee the program. It is more of a mixture of a Bismarck, National Health Insurance Model, and Out of pocket style health care model and only employed citizens are required to have the health program. The employers

It s simple to see this ancient society as barbaric and inhumane. It s simple to stay narrow minded and refuse to view them as anything else. In reality, the Aztec society was complex. Their beliefs, festivities, innovations, trainings, and social class structures all points toward a sophisticated civilization. The foundation that each of these examples were built upon was warfare. From midwives yelling war cries to welcome the newborn future warriors, to the special paradise designated for warriors after death, war dominated the Aztecs lives from birth until death (Clendinnen 56, 84). Tetracycline is a bacteriostatic agent and instead of directly killing the bacteria, it prevents the growth mainly by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins. We hypothesized that the minimal inhibitory concentration for our test would range from 4 g/mL to 8 g/mL. There are many antibiotics out there but it is not enough just to administer as much of an antibiotic that you want. There are particular numbers needed to achieve the desired and more longer lasting result. Introduction Disease and plague had once completely and disastrously overwhelmed humanity for countless years. During the era when medicine was not as advanced and sickness and disease had run rampant, people had resorted to dangerous, unethical and unsanitary methods of healing. Desperate to alleviate the pain, doctors and healers of the time did what they could to make the pain and discomfort of the ill disappear. Though the intentions of many doctors was to heal the sickly, they did not realize there was a more scientific approach of solving many of their problems. On a microscopic level, there are bacteria and microbes that are attacking the body, causing diseases to ensue. In order to deal with the issue at hand, scientists had to figure out what could be used to fight these particular pathogens and not just what, but how much of these antimicrobials should be used. To better understand this idea of knowing the proper dosage needed for an antibiotic, we exercised this concept of minimal inhibitory concentration. The minimal inhibitory concentration is the lowest amount of the antimicrobial concentration needed to prevent the noticeable growth of the microorganism after incubating the sample overnight. Each group was given a specific antibiotic of

We see them everywhere; from the simplest ice cream man to the most contemporary, sophisticated dining outlet in the heart of the city. There are a few reasons why patio umbrellas are so favoured over other types of outdoor furnishing: 1. They are affordable. Unlike floor tiling, wall paneling or paintings which can be extremely expensive, outdoor umbrellas are relatively cheap. Considering the fact that they can create that exact same effect we want for our outdoor spaces, it is no wonder they are usually a first option. 2. They are very accessible. It is also very easy to find these umbrellas. Almost any shop that does refurbishing will have some available for our perusal, or at least be able to direct us to one reliable source. 3. Patio umbrellas can be personalized or custom made at a relatively cheap cost. In a commercial setting, branding is everything. And having an outdoor umbrella on the premises means we have an extra vehicle for marketing our name. This can be done at a reasonable price quite easily, which reduces the stress of us having to carve our names into the furniture or pay artists an exorbitant price for graffiti branding on the floor tiles. 4. They are user friendly. There is no need for complicated manuals or help from any professional (except for some particular types of offset umbrellas) in the daily setting up and down of these umbrellas. Patio umbrellas for

There are two types of R D, also known as research and experimentation (R E), funding models; one is direct federal research dollars given to industry, typically for basic research, and the other in the use of taxcredits for R D activities. Tax credit policies began in 1981 as part of the Economic Recovery Tax Act (Talley, 2011). The U.S. has long funded R D, however this funding has steadily decreased with the total in 1976 of just over 1.2% of GDP with dropping below .8% of GDP in 2014 (AAAS, 2014a). In this light, I would argue that the educational setting portrayed in this book could have been a reality in places where there were rich, eccentric businessmen. • 29. Pre-American Gothic Criticism In Literature American gothic writers have had much impact on our American society in countless ways. Gothic writers wrote about many national problems ranging from politics to mental illnesses. Conventional wisdom claims that gothic writers popularized and influenced the study of psychology. Steven Hammelman acknowledges that Charles Brockden Browns short stories caused people to ask questions, to propose theories, and almost always offer some insight to professionals and those alike. (Hammelman, Steven. PSYART.com) Pre modern day gothic writers wrote about psychological issues hundreds of years before professionals addressed mental illnesses, by extension shows that gothic writers helped popularize and influenced the study of psychology. The connotation of the word gothic carries the stigma of the emotion melancholy and the grotesque. ( Stigma, n. OED Online, Oxford University Press, June 2017, www.oed.com/viewdictionaryentry/Entry/190242. Accessed 16 November 2017.) Humanitarians and those alike tend to believe that the Gothic genre is to showcase the darker side of people, the subconscious being of humans. The goal of gothic writers was to use written word to insert their feelings on certain issues, for example: Washington Irving s short story Rip Van Winkle focused on politics and biological determinism; biological determinism is the attribution of sole or excessive importance to biological factors in the determination of intelligence, behavior, development, etc.

In the film, as Boss, Charlie, and Buttons go back to the town after Mouse doesn t join them again, they find him abused by the ranchers. When they go and confront the marshall, they find him to be fraudulent. The primary source and the readings had the common theme of white male corruption. The ranchers and the marshalls were abusive and felt as they were entitled to power. That attitude and sense of entitlement lead to the destruction of the relationship between natives and Americans. Another correspondence is the way those men govern their people. In The Fight of Nez Perces, the governor could not comprehend such an attitude. He urged Old Joseph to sign the treaty and receive presents of blankets. (317)The governor had used manipulation tactics to receive what he wanted. The men in the film governed similarly. The task for the student is to perform a simple valuation of PacifiCorp and to consider the reasonableness of Berkshire s offer. Finally, it should help to motivate a discussion of Buffett s investment philosophy. 2.Based on your own analysis, what do you think PacifiCorp was worth on its own before its acquisition by Berkshire? This question expands upon the opening question and helps deepen the mystery about the acquisition the bid price seems to be a fairly full price offer for PacifiCorp. 3.Well, maybe Buffett is overpaying does he have a record of overpaying in the past? Here, the discussion should shift to an analysis of Berkshire s general record, its experience with MidAmerican, and its experiences buying equity positions in the Big Four. The general conclusion will be that Buffett has done very well as an investor and as the manager of Berkshire. 4.Here are the major elements of Buffett s philosophy. What do those elements mean? Do you agree with them? On a sideboard, one could list the major topic headings given in the case. The aim here should be to discuss the intuition behind each point: why Buffett holds those views and what they imply for his work. If the students already have been exposed to the major underpinnings of modern finance, this segment of the discussion would take the form of a quick review. For novices, this segment would warrant slower development. 5.Let s return to the

It all started with the Punic wars. After they won, there was no stopping them. By the first century BC, Rome controlled most of the known world. (Mahoney, 2001) With Augustus Caesar began the two centuries of the Pax Romana. During this time all of Rome became a collection of states rather than conquered provinces. The only threats that ever came were from the unorganized barbarian tribes who s conquest brought nothing to the Empire. (Mahoney, 2001) The rise of the Roman Empirehad many contributors. The very first was built in 312 BC. They also invented sewers, central heating systems, and the first types of concrete. (Mahoney, 2001) The last of all the factors was religion. The Romans worshiped around 30,000 gods in all. These included the major gods and goddesses such as Jupiter, the chief god, Neptune, god of the sea, Venus, goddess of love and beauty, and Minerva, goddess of wisdom and war. Each household also worshipped their own protective spirits. After Caesar s death, the emperors were considered gods too. People all over the empire were allowed to worship their own local gods as long as they paid homage to the Roman gods. The people built large temples for worship of their different gods. They looked to the gods to help protect their families and lives. This also helped when going into battle. How could you not win with so many gods on your side? (Mahoney, 2001) As you have read, many things attributed to the rise of the Empire. Many things also attributed to its fall as well. These included poor leadership, economic trouble, as well as growth aspects. (Mahoney, 2001) The Empire began with great leaders, but they

The point that I m trying to make is that men will adapt to our ever changing environments if they sense that those changes are crucial, urgent, and does not threaten their current position (which they feel are safe and secure). People don t resist changes because they dislike those changes. People resist changes because they ve encountered previous experiences of change that are unpleasant or have negative effects on their interests. People resist changes, because they are unsure of the outcome that those changes will bring. People resist changes because they are comfortable with the current organizational culture and feel that the new changes would jeopardize their job security. Now that we know why people resist changes we need to find a way to diagnose certain signs and how we can manage these resistance. Every Organization will have different groups that will react differently to change. By learning proper ways to diagnose we can handle the situation with care and ease. Essentially, when we talk about resisting changes, we need to start from the very beginning, when those changes first started to have a clearer diagnose. Force Field Analysis Diagram The transition starts at the implementation process of change because that is where we can find restraining forces that can hinder implementation of change. He enjoyed using free verse because it could further distinguish him from other writers of the past, and of his time. Emily Dickinson, who lived from 1830 to 1886, also had a large impact in the American Romantic period. The poem begins by saying, Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me; the carriage held but just ourselves and immortality. This poem deals with human immortality and what occurs after we die. The desire for knowledge and wanting to understand what we currently do not are influences in American Romanticism. As she explains in her essay, a brilliant writer who was underappreciated and in the most part unknown, even to the people who lived in the town she was born in. All of this as well as all the misinformation surrounding her death and burial. Throughout Alice Walkers search she discovers many new things about Zora, such as parts of her personality. Alice Walker went through her search of Zora unknowing of what was to come and found many things about the harlem renaissance author that no one knew about. She found out that Zora was not recognized for what she had done and written as no one has really ever read or seen any of her works. Attributed mostly to the problems regarding racial segregation. Her interactions with white people and how she thought of them as well as the way she wrote didn t appeal to everyone as it may have been controversial for the time. However, it doesn t distract from the point of how important her work is through the messages it offers. Another surprising thing is the way in which the record of how she passed were kept. First there was a problem involving her cause of death then there was a problem of where she was buried. It also seems that no one ever really knew of Hurston or who she
  • 54. Border Policies on Tribal Lands Initially, borders were used to define a state s territory, which in return was used to measure a state s power (Madsen 280). Within a territory a state is said to have sovereignty over the land and the people it inhabits. The concept of state sovereignty can be attributed to nationalism. As nationalism has risen in importance since the mid 18th century, so have borders. Up until the Europeans arrived in the Americas in 1492, borders were non existent, at least not in a modern definition of a state border. However, since then, there has been a severe transformation of the definition of borders, but more importantly, also in the existence of borders in the Americas. Today borders are increasingly analyzed in terms of their social implications as instruments of state power and reflection of societal discourse and prejudice (Maden 280). The United Statesof America has 7,400 miles of international boundary dividing U.S. territory from Canada in the North and Mexico in the South. (Butts 383). While the border policy has toughened since the 1980s/1990s due to Nixon s War on Drugs policy, border control has become even more restrictive after 9/11 (Tonra 221, 239 240). One of the aftermaths of 9/11 was the enactment of the Home Security Act in 2001, and the resulting establishment of the Department of Home Security in 2002 (Butts 374, EagleWomen 33 34, Singleton 40, Tonra 221). According to Attorney General John Ashcroft our homeland security remains threatened so long as
  • 55. Problem Of Deforestation Deforestation is a genocide of trees, a modern day environmental plague. The clearing of millions of trees each day. Not only hurting the environment, but all types of animals, plants, and indigenous peoples that survive and live off of the forests. The forests we destroy day by day. For our own selfish reasons. Deforestation is a major problem in our day and age, by killing the millions of trees that live on our planet, we will kill the earth. Trees are apart of our natural environment, they produce the oxygen we all need to breathe. If we as whole continue to kill our Earth, tree by tree. We will be faced with global desertification and many other environmental problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase economic development. The increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams, agricultural farming, and much more. The history of land use concerning deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the Amazon, cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having over 200 million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the world. Cattle ranching takes up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of trees that have to be cut down to make space for these humongous ranches. It s the same thing with regular farming. Small farmers will clear a few acres of trees then burn them, just so they can have room for their farms. Hutto 2 This is called slash and burn
  • 56. Harold Godwinson Essay True King of England Harold Godwinson Thomas Faulkner Harold Godwinson, King of England reigned from 6 January 1066 until 14 October when he died in the Battle of Hastings in the same year. He was fighting against the Normans who were invading England and led by William the Conqueror. Harold Godwinson, King of England died from an arrow that struck him in the eye. Harold Godwinson succeeded and was chosen by Edward the Confessor. William the Duke of Normandy and Harald Hardrada, King of Norway thought that they should have succeeded Edward the Confessor instead of Harold Godwinson. Harold Godwinson was the last Anglo Saxon King of England and therefore I believe the last true Englishman to claim the throne. There are three main reasons why I believe that Harold Godwinson was the final true king of England. Firstly, Harold was powerful and ambitious. Secondly, he was an excellent soldier who had the skills to lead England into battle against the Norman invaders. Finally and most importantly he was the last Anglo Saxon to rule England and therefore the last true king of England. He was chosen by the Witan who were a council of 60 of the most powerful noblemen. Harold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Witan wanted an Anglo Saxon to rule England. Harold Godwinson did not want the Normans in England and thought he had been tricked by William the Conqueror. He had been forced to promise loyalty to William the Conqueror as they had his nephew hostage and made him sign a sacred oath of allegiance. William was holding his nephew hostage and said he would only be released if Harold swore to be loyal to him and help William become King. This means that William of Normandy was afraid that Harold Godwinson was going to win the Battle of Hastings and not him which is quite ironic when you know who won the Battle of
