Write up a review of a famous (or not so famous) corporate blunder, which either ruined a company,

A famous corporate blunder that came to mind was the joint venture between Anheuser Busch a
multinational organization formerly a U.S. own brewery that held 45 percent of the US beer market
and Grupo Modelo a Mexican company that brews the popular beer Corona that held 50 percent of
its home beer market and exported to 124 countries in the globe. Anheuser originally entered into

Modelo s action was unethical they already had a US distributor that had a shared stake in its
venture but in my opinion understandable it was about to face a more competitive global market
without the protection of tariffs which were to be phased out under NAFTA. Anheuser premature
announcement to US distributors about controlling the Corona brand resulted in a setback that
affected its own distribution system and subsequent stakeholders.
Write up a review of a famous (or not so famous) corporate blunder, which either ruined a company,
or dealt it a significant setback. How did the actions of the various stakeholders affect the incident?
The disastrous joint venture was an unfortunate event but could have been reasonable foreseen
with the contract having significant redundancies. Anheuser recovered and equally survived via
acquisition by the Belgium based company InBev SA becoming a wholly own subsidiary that
operates 12 breweries in the United States and has a close working relationship with 500
independent wholesalers that provides extraordinary service to retailers. A joint venture is a major
risk especially ventures between a local and foreign partner which in some cases forces them to
rescind a business venture. However, there are methods that can be implemented to reduce damages
or in Anheuser Busch case the potential of a repeat incident. There should be

Personal Philosophy Of A Head Coach
Have you ever been in a situation where you just want to speak what is on your mind? Assistant
coaches get this awful feeling more times than what they should. In all sports at any level, there
are always going to be the people who help the head coach. These people are known as the
assistants. I find it quite fitting that these individuals are given the title assistant, given the fact
that their role is exactly how one would define this word. Webster s Dictionary would define an
assistant as a person who gives aid to people. To be a good assistant, Roy Williams once said, A
good assistant beats their head coachto the office and leaves after the head coach. Personally, I do
not agree that this is an important attribute of what a quality would... Show more content on

The assistant coaches must work as a middle man between the players and head coach. In
addition to being the middle man , the assistant coach must be available at any for the players
and the head coach. It appears that it is a need for assistants to have balance and safe places to
express themselves because of their role of being a sounding board. When they find their personal
safe place they are able to take care of their own personal emotions. Coach Corbett informed me
that there are things that the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has available for players and head
coaches, but nothing for the assistants. Coach Corbett made a great quote about this dilemma, Who

Oliver Sacks s The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat
As a child, I watched Alfred Hitchcock Theater, The Twilight Zone and other science fiction or
horror shows. Often times the storyline was based on a victim s mental problems or their
skewed perception of the world. Looking back, I remember the fascination I felt when watching
one specific episode of the Twillight Zone. In this particular episode, a man turned into a zombie
by some type of poison. Essentially he was still alive, but he was dead to the world. In the end
he was embalmed while he was completely conscious yet could not say anything to prevent it.

After the industrial revolution, the development of frame construction, invention of elevator, and
rise of office work made the emergence of skyscraper an inevitable product of social and
technological forces, predominantly in the American cities of New York and Chicago. This marked
a significant transform of architecturestyle from classical to modern. With the conversion of design
concept to be more utilitarian, less classical ornamentations were incorporated in the design of early
skyscrapers like those of most of the medieval architectures had did. However, the Wainwright

Terra Cotta, an Italian words meaning baked earth , is a durable, flexible, and fireproof building
material that made of clay. One of its largest advantages is that no matter how intricate design
patterns, it can be casted into any applicable shapes. The modeling task is much easier and can be
reusable compared with other casting materials, especially with a limited range of modeling tools.
Small details that was hard to be achieved in the stone carving can be accomplished easily in the
malleable material, and once burned under a high temperature, terra cotta will harden and make it

characteristics, terra cotta became a favorite material of Sullivan when designing the ornamentation

The American nation was founded by a myriad of immigrants. Oppressed peasants, religious
dissidents and the generally disenfranchised are just a few of those who left an indelible cultural
and a political mark on our nation. This is apparent in the literary culture which defines our nation.
Starting in the Colonial era leading up to the childhood of the Republic, American literature was
primarily composed of religious sermons, folksy poems and old European folk tales given
American qualities. However, during the Revolution patriotic essays and pamphlets became
popular and after the onset of the 19th century, Transcendentalism developed from the European

This essay covers persuasive techniques used in the video commercial for Old Spice deodorant, as
well as the messages that lie in the heart of the very commercial. The essay will try to explain the
techniques and effects of persuasion on targeted audience, while at the same time referring to style
and language. A great emphasis is put on humor, as it is the main technique of persuasion used in the

Advertisers have applied the sex sells rule of advertising on this commercial, with the change of
men being objectified rather than women, and mixed it with humor in order to create a desirable
effect.
Before turning to analysis of other techniques, it is important to mention the use of language and
sentences as well, which cannot really be seen as a persuasive technique but is a powerful tool in
manipulating audience. Sentences in the commercial are brief and straight to the point. The
narrator is confident and he knows what he is talking about no stops in between the sentences, no
improvisation and no commas, which, aside with random images, helps to create the desirable
dynamic effect. Dynamic commercial embodies the dynamic lifestyle led by the targeted audience,
which consists of young people who are always on the move and trying to keep up with the modern
world.
As for the style and tone of the author, it is important to mention that the narrator states his point of
view up front, the language is forceful and persuasive, making the narrator sound arrogant and
powerful, even superior to the audience he is talking to. He is even making fun of the audience,
which is, however, not to be taken seriously, taking into account that the parodying tone is present
from the very beginning and it is clear that the intention is to make fun of the male and female
stereotypes, rather than the audience.

The Character of Sula as a Rose nbsp; Authors developed the canon in order to set a standard of
literature that most people needed to have read or to have been familiar with. The works
included in the canon used words such as beautiful, lovely, fair, and innocent to describe women.
The canonical works also used conventional symbols to compare the women to flowers such as
the rose and the lily. Thomas Campion depicts the typical description of women in his poem,
There is a Garden in Her Face. He describes the women by stating, There is a garden in her face
/ Where roses and white lilies grow,/ A heavenly paradise is that place,/ Wherein all pleasant fruits

Unlike all the other women in the story, Sula is tough and does not let others interfere with her.
She lives her life by her own rules and standards. The people in the town notice that except for a
funny shaped finger and that evil birthmark, she was free of any normal signs of vulnerability
(115). Again, the rose symbolized Sula s growth and carefree way of life. However, the stemmed
rose is more than just a mark that changes shades. First of all, the rose represents a part of the
whole that has been cut off from the original bush. Hence, Sula does not fit in with the people
from the Bottom, and she knows that she leads a different way of life. Sula explains that the
women of the Bottom will die like a stump, [while she will go down] like one of those redwoods
(143). Everyone of the Bottom is alike and united in their hatred and fear of Sula. Because Sula
is promiscuous and improper by the Bottom s standards, the women of the town believed they
were leading better lives because of they did not live like Sula. In reality, however, the women
were denying reality and used Sula to get over their guilt. Sula feels she is on a different level
entirely her own, and she never competed; she simply helped others to define themselves (95).
Society needs her in order to unite against her. Sula cuts herself from the bush of the Bottom
because she does not go along with the crowd, represented by the bush. Next, it is ironic that the

Examples Of Ptsd In The Iliad
PTSD and a Reevaluation of Homer s Achilles
In Homer s Iliad, Achilles hears about the death of his dearest friend and says Nothing matters to
me now / But killing and blood and men in agony (19.226). In the fit of reckless violence which
follows, he slaughters so many young men that he clogs the River Scamander with their gore, slays
helpless suppliants, and attempts to mutilate his chief enemy s body after killing him. While it is
impossible to deny Achilles compulsive and violent behavior in much of The Iliad, modern research
on the effects of battle trauma on the human psyche invites us to reevaluate his behavior. In light of
modern research conducted on war veterans suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder),

Achilles, once a figure of godlike power and bravery, now appears a very mortal figure suffering
from the brutality of war. His fall from heroism to barbarism is no less tragic and no less horrid,
but is much more understandable when viewed as a psychological phenomenon only recently
identified by modern psychology. This understanding of Achilles also serves to bridge the
cultural and temporal gaps between Homeric society and our own. The Iliad provides compelling
evidence that PTSD is a cross cultural and cross temporal disorder which warriors have
experienced since time immemorial. From Troy to Vietnam and beyond, soldiers have suffered
trauma from combat which has in turn caused them to inflict violence on others, as well as on
themselves. Achilles almost cuts his own throat in the opening lines of Book 18, and refuses to eat,
drink or bathe for most of the rest of The Iliad. Thus, he effectively makes himself the living dead
(in commiseration with Patroclus). Similarly, the number of Vietnam vets who have committed
suicide exceeds the number who died during and after the war from wounds, and an estimated 1.5
million still suffer from

Martin Luther And John Calvin Views On Sinful People
Martin Luther and John Calvin В Views on Sinful People
Justification by faith (Sola Fide), the core value of the Reformation, is the belief that
righteousness from God is a recompense for sinner s accounts through faith alone. The sixteenth
century movement for the reform of abuses in the Roman Catholic Church resulted in the
establishment of the Reformed and Protestant Churches. Reformers like Martin Luther and John
Calvin were two of the most significant figures in the history of The Reformation. They both
proclaimed Justification as the main subject of the gospel of God s grace. They were well
acknowledged for their common doctrines of salvation as the deliverance from sin and its
consequences. They believed that to be brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compare Martin Luther s and John Calvin s view on the subject of a sinful person, I
thoroughly looked into their common doctrines and considered how they differ in implementing
the rules that manage their ideology. I was able to conclude that even though Luther and Calvin
shared similar doctrines, their conceptualization and interpretation of those doctrines is very
different. Based on their opinions of sinners, I further realized that not only do they have divergent
interpretations of similar doctrines, but they also have different ambitions and their personalities
are extreme opposites.
Luther often blamed the flesh, which Protestants refer to as our sinful nature (they
believed is the cause of human impurities), for the sins of every human and he gave credit to the
Spirit for every good things that man does. The Reformers and the Protestants believe that there
are two types of spirits: the Holy Spirit, which they proclaim to be the spirit of God, and the human
spirit, which is the part of humans that opens up to the spirit of God. The spirit that is often
refereed to when talking about the flesh is the human spirit (what does the Bible mean by the
flesh by Msgr. Charles Pope). We might argue that Luther is trying not to be judgmental, that he
acknowledged the fact that efforts to live a sinВfree life is a mere dream, and the best approach to

Essay about Napoleons Farwell Address Speech Analysis
Napoleon s Farewell Address To The Old Guard
A truly dramatic moment in history occurred on April 20, 1814, as Napoleon Bonaparte,
Emperor of France and would be ruler of Europe said goodbye to the Old Guard after his failed
invasion of Russia and defeat by the Allies.
By that time, Napoleon had ruled France and surrounding countries for twenty years. Originally an
officer in the French Army, he had risen to become Emperor among the political chaos following the
French Revolution in which the old ruling French kings and nobility had been destroyed.
Napoleon built a 500,000 strong Army, which used modern tactics and improvisation in battle to
sweep across Europe and acquire an Empire for France.

Soldiers of my Old Guard: I bid you farewell. For twenty years I have constantly accompanied
you on the road to honor and glory. In these latter times, as in the days of our prosperity, you have
invariably been models of courage and fidelity. With men such as you our cause could not be lost;
but the war would have been interminable; it would have been civil war, and that would have
entailed deeper misfortunes on France.
I have sacrificed all of my interests to those of the country.
I go, but you, my friends, will continue to serve France. Her happiness was my only thought. It
will still be the object of my wishes. Do not regret my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to
serve your glory. I intend to write the history of the great achievements we have performed
together. Adieu, my friends. Would I could press you all to my heart.
Napoleon Bonaparte April 20, 1814
Following this, Napoleon was sent into exile on the little island of Elba off the coast of Italy. But
ten months later, in March of 1815, he escaped back into France. Accompanied by a thousand men
from his Old Guard he marched toward Paris and gathered an army of supporters along the way.
Once again, Napoleon assumed the position of Emperor, but it lasted only 100 days until the battle
of Waterloo and was defeated by the English and Prussian Armies on June 18, 1815.
A month later he was sent into exile on the island of St. Helena off the coast of Africa. On May 5,

A Man For All Seasons, And Elia Kazan s On The Waterfront
Only fools follow their standard of personal integrity. Discuss.
Values and morals are often instilled in people as they grow up, but the extent to which one
chooses to follow these principles can be greatly swayed by how strong their sense of personal
integrity is. As individuals are exposed to an array of varying perspectives and multiple values,
one s own certainty about the interpretation or application of a particular principle may lessen,
opening up the possibility of accepting an alternative position. Robert Bolt s play, A Man For All
Seasons , and Elia Kazan s On the Waterfront, we see that integrity is impossible without a
conscience guided by long reflection upon the inner character of justice.
Bolt s ethical protagonist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bolt s lead character is a man of strict moral righteousness; he never once wavered, which
consequently leads to his fall from grace and untimely death. More is not setting out to be a hero or
martyr. He is a lawyer and sees the law as a way to live peacefully in the world. From his choices, it
is evidently clear that More is no simple common man. He treads the road that only a few mortals
would dare travel down to. His critics see his morality as impractical but for More, his conscience
is the only thing (he) believes to be true . As a man of virtue, More stands alone in the play.
Surrounded by a cast of seemingly weak and basic characters, More s morality is even more
manifest. Such characters as Richard Rich and the Common Man demonstrate how most normal
individuals will be guided by their needs, not their consciences. Rich is intoxicated with avarice
and believes that materialistic items such as clothes and money will gain him the respect and power
that he rightly deserves . More conversely knows well that respect and admiration cannot be
brought and that the integrity of men is to be measured by conduct and not their satisfaction of
hubris.
It is obvious that More understands the nuance of every political move, as he mentions what
would happen if Wolsey falls. He conveys his competence by his careful handling of events.
Because of his intellectual prowess, More has managed to keep the people he cares around him
safe by using the words of the law in

Vitamin D and Athletic Performance Essay
Good nutrition and its role in positively affecting athletic performance has become more and more
evident almost daily. Specific macro and micronutrients are better understood as to their specific
functions within the body and from that how they can influence the body s ability to perform while
under duress. An example of such would be the stress of athletic performance. Vitamin D, which is
also referred to as cholecalciferol, is one of the fat soluble vitamins that have been attributed to
influencing athletic performance. However, vitamin D is not as much a performance enhancing
nutrient in the sense that when taken in higher amounts it will aid athletic performance, but rather
when in deficient amounts it can hinder athletic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many factors influence how much sunlight exposure individuals receive and thus impact the
amount of Vitamin D that the body can synthesize. Latitude, season of the year, time of day,
sunblock, melanin content of the skin, age, and clothing are a few of these factors. Cannell and
associates describes that individuals who train and/or compete above the 35 degree latitude
marker, which is half of the United States and all of Canada and Europe, do not receive enough
sun exposure to synthesize enough Vitamin D, especially during the fall and winter seasons 2.
Others who are at risk are those who engage in indoor sports or train primarily indoors, such as
gymnasts, indoor track and field athletes, basketball players, and wrestlers to name a few. There is
also a surprisingly high amount of Vitamin D deficiency described in Miami, Florida because of
the extensive use of sunblock 3.
Vitamin D Deficiency The definition of Vitamin D deficiency is changed almost yearly, as the
laboratory levels which determine what is an adequate or inadequate level of vitamin D in the
blood serum are changing as well 2, 4. Recent research studies have determined that ideal levels
of vitamin D are at or above 50 ng·mL 1 from 30 ng·mL 1, which was previously thought to
be adequate levels within the blood. This is problematic for several reasons, but one of the most
critical reasons is that the number of diseases caused at least in part by vitamin D are on the rise and

Lagos is an extraordinary and unique city within the global south. The movie shared some of the

Why Parker Is Not A Social Butterfly
Parker stands just outside of the airport doors with a suitcase beside her, it was awkward for
Parker to try and maneuver her way through the airport s terminal. Every corner and service desk
she looked at she would see best friends, families, long distance couples, and sometimes even the
lonesome fliers. It was odd being around so many people, but seeing each person with a smile on
their face made her even happier to be here.
The Netherlands are nice, Parker decides. She likes the small towns where you can see the forests

importantly, she likes the Netherlands because of the people. Parker was not a social butterfly by

After sending her last text to Nichole, Parker went straight back to Tumblr. Only glancing up when
the small doorbell rang, indicating that someone had come in. The small Starbucks stayed quiet for
about an hour until the doorbell rang out again, this time three girls walking in.
Parker watched the three girls with curiosity as they all giggled over something. Each of the girls

shorter than herself. Magenta colored hair was what really caught her attention. It reminded Parker
of Nichole. Parker continued to watch the three girls, sort of enticed by the magenta haired girl.
One day all four of us will come here together and we will finally get to meet her, one of the girls
said, sparking even more of Parker s attention.
Just as Parker was taking a sip of her tea, the magenta haired girl turned around. Instantly Parker
started to choke on her drink. Quickly she looked away from the three girls and covered her mouth

George Orwell And 1984 Comparison
George Orwell s 1984 is about a party member of Oceania named Winston Smith. Oceania is a
dystopian society that controls the people through constant surveillance and doublethink, which is
the acceptance of two contradictory beliefs used to change a person s memory more easily.
Throughout the novel, Winston talks about his hatred towards Big Brother, the leader of Oceania,
and how he wants to put a stop to the party. One way he does that is he falls in love with a young
woman named Julia and they have relations with each other to rebel against the party. It is clear
that when George Orwellwrote 1984, he was greatly influenced by Yevgeny Zamyatin s We.
Because of this, people tend to compare the two novels with each other. When comparing D 503...

In We, D 503 thinks his government is perfect and thinks that what OneState stands for is what
is best for the people. D 503 wants everything to be perfect and for everything to be perfect there
has to be complete control over everyone and everything. He likes that there is complete control
over the people of OneState because it makes his world mathematically perfect. In contrast to D
503, Winston disagrees with everything that Oceania stands for. He does not agree with how the
Party controls the people through doublethink and constant surveillance. When writing in his
journal one day, His pen had slid voluptuously over the smooth paper, printing in large neat
capitals DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER (Orwell 18). Winston hates big brother and wants
nothing to do with him or the party. He is committing a thought crime by just writing his true
feelings down. He hates the Party so much that he is willing to risk his life by writing down his
hatred towards the Party and big brother. To summarize this difference, D 503 loves his
government and wants the people of OneState to be controlled, while Winston hates his
government and wants to put a stop to the party. Because of this difference, Orwell departs from
Zamyatin s protagonist by having his protagonist actually show his disapproval of the party instead
of loving his government like D 503

Reflection Paper On Final Reflection
Personal Reaction and Reflection Journal Final Response
Final Reaction
In the beginning of this film, it appears these men were struggling to be truthful and honest. They
were making sure it was a safe place to do so. They all came to discuss their experiences and learn
from other men s experiences. As the film went on I was impressed by their ability to continue to
talk about the hard topics related to racism in our country. They all took many risks to explain their
experience and question when other members thoughts were inaccurate within the group setting.
After watching the rest of the color of fear I have seen a big change in everyone in the group,
especially David Christensen.
I believe that this film as a whole is so powerful and looks at many different perspectives of how
racism and oppression can affect everyone around us. As I mentioned before we all experience
privileges and oppression, but everyone experiences these in different ways as we learned when
reading about the addressing model. By the end of this documentary, we saw so many different
types of oppressions related to within group and between group differences. They were powerful
messages because they explained how both concepts influenced and allowed the cycle of oppression
to continue in our society.
The take home message I received is that racism and prejudice will not stop from having a few
discussions, but this can help to us as a society and as counselors to become more aware of these
concepts.

The Duality Of Good And Evil In Dualistic Religions
Evil has been a part of this world since the beginning, and after all this time there is still no clear
answer as to exactly why people are evil. Of all the great dualities of human experience good and
evil have been the most instrumental in shaping the beliefs, rituals, and laws, of Homo sapiens.
(Aragno, The Devil Within: A Psychoanalytic Perspective on Evil. ) Philosophists believe that evil
is within a person because people have free will. In Pantheistic religions, human anguish is a
product of spiritual ignorance assembled in previous lives and dispersed in the present one
according to the followers of karma. In monotheistic religions evil has a personal identity, for
example in Christianity evil is identified as the devil because he was once an angel but after
disobeying Godhe fell from the Kingdom of Heaven. In dualistic religions, good and evilare two
everlasting and contradictory principles. They were both separately created and they both act
separately but they re based on each other, without one the other would be irrelevant.
Most people who are non religious believe that evil is a result of free will, it could be true that the
existence of free beings cannot be achieved by even an almighty God without allowing room for
some evil, because it is nearly certain that free beings will do evil. (Himma, The Free Will Defence:
Evil and the Moral Value of Free Will ) For example: slavery, slavery is the result of free will. If we

Community Immersion Analysis On Community
Introduction
The definition of Community, Netting, Kettner, McMurty and Thomas (2012) stated by Warren
(1978) Community is the combination of social units and systems that perform the major social
functions relevant to meeting people s needs on a local level. (p.133). Understanding communities
is important to social workers as they have, Netting et al (2012) to know individuals functions
within larger systems, understanding of its history and that communities constantly change (p.
168). A community has many parts that make it work together; when one part is not working well,
it affects the entire system. Social Workers are able to analyze, interpret data and work with
community groups and leaders to find solutions to improve the workings of that community to its
full potential.
This community immersion analysis will focus on its community s social agencies, diversity and
cultural richness. Systems Theory applies to this area as the macro system of this community s
main downtown street is filled with stores, restaurants, cultural establishments where locals as well
as tourist convene (Netting, 2012) that carries out production as well as school and religious sites

Queer Culture
In today s media, it is no longer unusual to see queers in the spotlight whether that is in TV shows,
in celebrity news, or even in advertisements. This definitely seems like a big win for the LGBTQ
movement on the surface but is society actually accepting of queer culture? A prominent big win
for activists was the legalization of gay marriagein 2015. However, many queerstudies scholars are
skeptical of the mainstream LGBTQ movement s focus on marriage rights because it is based on
homonormative politics that continues to uphold oppressive institutions and because it does not
tackle the actual underlying social issues. Instead of focusing on marriage, activists should
prioritize building coalitions based on community values and intersectionality and strive for radical

Along with this, heteronormative institutions, like marriage and the nuclear family structure, are
increasingly being held up as a vision of the good life (Berlant and Warner 173). Not only is this
belief deeply rooted in hetero norms, it also rejects the existence of intimacies outside the nuclear
family structure. Thus, queer public cultures, like Christopher Street in Manhattan, are needed to
provide a space for intimacies outside of marriage, such as girlfriends, gal pals, fuckbuddies, and
tricks (Berlant and Warner 175). Queer public spaces are thus needed to validate unconventional
intimacies and to elaborate a public world of belonging and transformation (Berlant and Warner
175). However, with the rise of neoliberalism, which diverts from the more transformative ideas for
a politically centered approach, some queer activists, most prominently, the Independent Gay

Ways People Benefit From South
What are ways people benefit from South? Ways people benefit from South are being a student

Disappointment And Disillusionment In A Relationship

their relationship while others may see them as potential deal breakers to having their
relationship go forward. For example, if you are a girl, you don t expect your man to buy you

people have already established opinions of each other, one might expect that that is the end of it.

The Minority of young people engage in serious offending. 17% of boy s aged 10 17 had

opinion PearlВґs only purpose in the novel is to show others people sins and to develop themes
such as guilt/shame, the hypocrisy of those who pretend to lover her and reject her later, and the
isolation that she and Hester lived in. It must have been a hard life for Pearl, a life of suffering and
isolation. Watching his mom all days suffer for what she has done and knowing that no one has an

Summary Of The Meaning Of Liberal Education
The Meaning of Liberal Education In the article, The Meaning of Liberal Education , the author
Robert A. Scott explores what the purpose of a liberal arts education is and how it is connected to
making students more aware of their world. Scott conveyed that a liberal education provides a
broad exposure to be shared by all students no matter their major. He feels that a liberal education
will expose the student to the world in which we live. According to Scott, by experiencing a liberal
education, the student is able to find questions behind the answers. He stated that history,
imagination, and compassion are three essential subjects which need to be discovered during the
process of obtaining an education. He feels that too many adults lack the skills to understand the
dynamics of cultureand how people interact. After discussing the matter with several professionals,
Scott was surprised to find that many employers felt that individuals lacked subject matter
knowledge. Internships were considered to be ideal for preparing adults for their future. By
receiving internships, the adults would be well rounded. It is thought that by receiving a liberal
education, a citizen can acquire a network of fellow students and alumni that they can use
throughout their careers and also their social life. Scott is of the opinion that a liberal education
nurtures the ability to differentiate between what is true and what is false and an individual can
grow intellectually and teach an

Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel...
Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel Thrilling portray the horror, suffering and
inevitable disillusionment of war in their respective poems. The two poets that I am going to
compare and contrast in this essay both write from a different perspective of the war. They are
writing about different poems, Owen writes about the 1st world war and Thrilling the 2nd. Both
poets are in a different setting when they write these poems, Thrilling is back at home whereas
Owen is in the middle of the action, he is in the battlefield. This makes his poems more vivid and
realistic. Owen was an adult at this stage and writes it from a soldier s point of view, however
Thrilling writes from a child s point of view. The poems that I... Show more content on

The soldiers are described by Owen as hard working and faithful as they limped, blood shod. The
war is also stressed by the use of the hyperbole. Many metaphors are used in the poem for
example rest is used to signify the dead soldiers. The soldiers are portrayed as being dead and
are so tired that they are almost like they are drunk, stumbling with fatigue. In the next verse
highlighting the immediacy of the action speeds up the pace. GAS, GAS quick boys! The word
boys in this sentence emphasises how young and unprotected the soldiers were. It also shows
that they are blind to what is happening, they are inexperienced and therefore suffer. The word
ecstasy is then used to highlight the chaos and tempo. It is a contrast to the previous verse when
they were trudging on the same routine. The army is portrayed as smart and heroic but they are
told to us but Owen as clumsy . The simile like floundering in fire is used to highlight that they
were not in control of what was happening, they were delirious. The pace is then slowed down as
one of the soldier s dies. He is suffocating and this shows us he is totally helpless. We are at this
point looking through the soldier s eyes and this emphasises that we are helpless too. The
slowing down is as if he is drowning. The gas is suffocating the soldier and it is if he is drowning
under the sea because it as described using the metaphor the green sea . The next verse

Disadvantages Of Cruises
The time when cruises were only for the rich are long gone and nowadays everyone can afford to
go on such a trip if they know when and where to look for it. With cruises increasing in popularity
in the travel industry, the offers are more varied than never and there are many choices for those
who want to get the best deal for a cruise. And if they make use of the following tricks, they can
increase their chances of getting a great cruisedeal.
Go for the last minute deals
While in other cases, early booking can bring you many discounts, when it comes to cruises, it s
best to opt for the last minute offers. If you want to get the best deal, look for cruises 60 to 90
days before the departure because that is the last call for travelers to cancel ... Show more content on

There are websites where you fill a form with the details of the cruise you are looking for and
then the ad will be posted to various travel agencies. An agent will soon get back to you and offer
you price quotes. However, you must know that most agents charge a fee when they meet with you
to discuss the details of the cruise. This fee in nonrefundable if you don t book or you cancel the
cruise, but you can use it for another cruise.
Analyze the total costs
Finding a cruise that is very cheap but doesn t include the additional fees is not actually a
bargain, so pay attention to the details of the cruise. Even if the travel package is affordable,
having to pay for service fees or port charges is not something you want. This is why you must
analyze the package very well and ask the person in charge if the additional fees are included in
the sale price. Another important aspect is the payment method required by each travel agencies.
Some of them mandate that you pay for the entire price of the cruise when you book it while others
don t refund your

What Is The Thorns In The Scarlet Letter A
My project consists of a cake garnished with the red letter A. The A is divided by two
contradictory ideas. The initial fraction of the cake has black frosting and a red A on it. The A
has thorns around it, showing the immoral part of the letter. The opposite half of the cake has
white frosting and a red A and is ornamented with roses instead of barbs. The relationship I am
showing by including the two halves of the A is how the idea of the letter changed throughout the
book. At first, the letter, and Hester are perceived as sinful, evil, and a smear on Puritan culture.
But once Hester becomes a giver in her community, she becomes one who the Puritans regard as
being an angel or able. I took advantage of the roses, thorns, and the opposition between black and
white, to show how this change happens.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the book, the rose bush outside the prison symbolizes hope where there is
none, while at the same time its thorns show the pain of the prisoners in the prison. I used the
thorns in the first half to show how Hester is in more sadness at the beginning because she is
being criticized so sternly by everybody around her. I used the roses in the second half though to
demonstrate how Hester gains hope because of her transformed image. In addition, I chose black
and white as the frosting colors of the halves to show how contrasting these two meanings of the
letter are. I chose black and white because black is more of a sinful color, which shows how
society looks at Hester and only sees her sin through the first parts of the book. White is purer
and shows how Hester becomes a symbol of purity to the town, and the A is changed to mean
angel instead of an adulterer or a sinner. First, the A viewed as very sinful and evil, and then more

Blackburn, Taylor and Davis (2010) found because of poverty in Cambodia and Thailand
parents tend to give up or sent their children (mostly females) to recruiters or creditors in order
to make ends meet, pay off a family debt and their children were a part of debt bondage. These
children became prostitutes and they were accepted to do these acts to pay for food and shelter to
the recruiters. Singh and Hart (2007) indicate that their findings were that many of the women
involved in sex work were interested with making money because they were facing financial
hardships and sex work was able to help increase the standard of living for themselves and their
families. Parents spent money raising their daughters and the daughters would become prostitutes
to repay the debt. Singh and Hart (2007) explain that the earnings of one daughter can support a
whole family in the rural villages of Thailand.
Due to cultural myths, men believe that having sex with underage girls as young as five will
boost their health. Another belief is that having sex with a virgin can cure sexually transmitted
diseases like HIV and AIDS. Though estimates of children infected with HIV and AIDS show
otherwise reports from 2007 present that 4,000 to 5,000 children aged zero thru fourteen and
63,000 to 80,000 adults aged fifteen and older in Cambodia are living with HIV. In Thailand

Discussion Of Virtue In Plato s Meno
During this week s intro to Plato s Meno and the idea of inputting a portion of the first few pages
to improve life I stumbled across an interesting topic. This was what I call differences in species
and matter or like Sacrates described it by asking, ... you think it is only in the case of virtue that
there is one for a man, another for a woman and so on. (2). There, we can see that he wants to make
sure that Meno knows that virtueis no different for man than for a female than for a child.
Therefore, this becomes the first anti racial argument that was established. They talk about how
bees have different attributes, this being my state of matter, from one another, yet because they
are all bees, the same specie, we call them and categorize them as bees and nothing else. If that is
the case, we are all humans. Life can be better if we avoid an everyday pre judgment state... Show

Nevertheless, I went with my day with that in mind and it was surprisingly a good experience. I
met a couple of people that I would ve judged immediately and provably never speak to them
because they seem homosexual; yet when I started talking to them I found out we are not that
different. They were incredibly funny and not to say real good people. If I wouldn t had talked
to them like I did with no pre judgement I wouldn t have met this two incredible people. I have
always avoided and felt distanced to people that are homosexual; yet I had never given the
opportunity to any of them to actually know them and give a better judgment out of that. After
seeing this result in only one day of my life and seeing how people are not really what they seem
all the time I can certainly say that for a better life a non pre judgmental attitude towards the world

Similarities Between Abraham Lincoln And Abraham Lincoln
During the Civil War era, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas were two figures that
changed America forever. They became two of the most influential people of their time. Through
their powerful and motivating speeches, they were able to change the minds of Americans and
help to improve society and the welfare of the people. Douglas fought for black civil rights
through compelling speeches, while Lincoln spoke more calmly and peacefully for unity with the
Confederate states. Both men had very different goals but had the same motivation to achieve a
better America for all. Lincoln was born on a farm to a very poor family and had very little
schooling. However, he rose from very humble beginnings to become the 16th president of the
United States shortly before the beginning of the Civil War. His fame comes mostly from leading
the country through the Civil War and changing the thinking of the American people at that time.
He is a self taught lawyer, who was also a shrewd military strategist and savvy leader. Lincoln is
known and recognized for the Emancipation Proclamation. It helped pave the way for the abolition
of slavery. Lincoln was a noble man. He was known as honest Abe when he practiced law. When
he spoke he stood still and kept his hands behind his back. He used his words very cautiously but
spoke with conviction and motivation. He was always very positive, hoping for a reconciliation
between the states. Lincoln s distinctively human and

Race, Ethnicity, Art and Film Essay
This paper tries to analyze race relations, ethnicity and how art and film relates to these social
issues in their cultural context. Art and film have played vital roles in advocating for a society
free of ethnicity and racism. Using vivid descriptions and evidence of both text and a movie this
paper seeks to relate accordingly the concerned issues and factors affecting these social vices. It
will demonstrate raceand ethnic tendencies in diverse cultural contexts.
As a demographic phenomenon, ethnicity is belonging to a specific ethnic group possessing distinct
culture and common origin. This is called inscriptive group identity. According to Said Edward

The colonial state activated heightened and enlarged ethnicity in a variety of ways. They brought
about a diverse wider group of interaction into competition, the colonies and the administrative
union started localizing administration. They started strengthening and enlarging ethnic allegiances
which increased ethnic tensions. In addition, they actively promoted preferential treatment of
ethnic groups as a matter of policy by establishing systems of collaboration.
Social Darwinism is a socialist theory that tries to understand the reason behind colonization and
other social vices like ethnicity. It was used to justify numerous exploits which we classify as
dubious moral values today. For instance doctors were responsible for assisting to die. Social
Darwinism states that people especially colonizers failed to justify the reason why they
forcefully seized land and resources from weaker natives. This is also illustrated in the military
affairs where the strongest military will win. The application of social Darwinism has since
provided the justification for more exploitative forms of social capitalism where workers are
usually paid less and yet they have worked for many hours.
It also tries to explain the reasoning behind slavery and colonization. However, not all social
Darwinism is negative. There are positive results of social Darwinism.

Assistant coaches get this awful feeling more times than what they should. In all sports at any level, there are always going to be the people who help the head coach. These people are known as the assistants. I find it quite fitting that these individuals are given the title assistant, given the fact that their role is exactly how one would define this word. Webster s Dictionary would define an assistant as a person who gives aid to people. Advertisers have applied the sex sells rule of advertising on this commercial, with the change of men being objectified rather than women, and mixed it with humor in order to create a desirable effect. Before turning to analysis of other techniques, it is important to mention the use of language and sentences as well, which cannot really be seen as a persuasive technique but is a powerful tool in manipulating audience. Sentences in the commercial are brief and straight to the point. The narrator is confident and he knows what he is talking about no stops in between the sentences, no improvisation and no commas, which, aside with random images, helps to create the desirable dynamic effect. Dynamic commercial embodies the dynamic lifestyle led by the targeted audience, which consists of young people who are always on the move and trying to keep up with the modern world. As for the style and tone of the author, it is important to mention that the narrator states his point of view up front, the language is forceful and persuasive, making the narrator sound arrogant and powerful, even superior to the audience he is talking to. He is even making fun of the audience, which is, however, not to be taken seriously, taking into account that the parodying tone is present from the very beginning and it is clear that the intention is to make fun of the male and female stereotypes, rather than the audience. The works included in the canon used words such as beautiful, lovely, fair, and innocent to describe women. The canonical works also used conventional symbols to compare the women to flowers such as the rose and the lily. Thomas Campion depicts the typical description of women in his poem, There is a Garden in Her Face. The people in the town notice that except for a funny shaped finger and that evil birthmark, she was free of any normal signs of vulnerability (115). Again, the rose symbolized Sula s growth and carefree way of life. However, the stemmed rose is more than just a mark that changes shades. First of all, the rose represents a part of the whole that has been cut off from the original bush. Hence, Sula does not fit in with the people from the Bottom, and she knows that she leads a different way of life. Sula explains that the women of the Bottom will die like a stump, [while she will go down] like one of those redwoods (143). Everyone of the Bottom is alike and united in their hatred and fear of Sula. Because Sula is promiscuous and improper by the Bottom s standards, the women of the town believed they were leading better lives because of they did not live like Sula. In reality, however, the women were denying reality and used Sula to get over their guilt. Sula feels she is on a different level entirely her own, and she never competed; she simply helped others to define themselves (95). Society needs her in order to unite against her. In the fit of reckless violence which follows, he slaughters so many young men that he clogs the River Scamander with their gore, slays helpless suppliants, and attempts to mutilate his chief enemy s body after killing him. Achilles, once a figure of godlike power and bravery, now appears a very mortal figure suffering from the brutality of war. His fall from heroism to barbarism is no less tragic and no less horrid, but is much more understandable when viewed as a psychological phenomenon only recently identified by modern psychology. This understanding of Achilles also serves to bridge the cultural and temporal gaps between Homeric society and our own. The Iliad provides compelling evidence that PTSD is a cross cultural and cross temporal disorder which warriors have experienced since time immemorial. From Troy to Vietnam and beyond, soldiers have suffered trauma from combat which has in turn caused them to inflict violence on others, as well as on themselves. Achilles almost cuts his own throat in the opening lines of Book 18, and refuses to eat, drink or bathe for most of the rest of The Iliad. As individuals are exposed to an array of varying perspectives and multiple values, one s own certainty about the interpretation or application of a particular principle may lessen, opening up the possibility of accepting an alternative position. He treads the road that only a few mortals would dare travel down to. His critics see his morality as impractical but for More, his conscience is the only thing (he) believes to be true . As a man of virtue, More stands alone in the play. Surrounded by a cast of seemingly weak and basic characters, More s morality is even more manifest. Such characters as Richard Rich and the Common Man demonstrate how most normal individuals will be guided by their needs, not their consciences. Rich is intoxicated with avarice and believes that materialistic items such as clothes and money will gain him the respect and power that he rightly deserves . More conversely knows well that respect and admiration cannot be brought and that the integrity of men is to be measured by conduct and not their satisfaction of hubris. Specific macro and micronutrients are better understood as to their specific functions within the body and from that how they can influence the body s ability to perform while under duress. An example of such would be the stress of athletic performance. Vitamin D, which is also referred to as cholecalciferol, is one of the fat soluble vitamins that have been attributed to influencing athletic performance. Latitude, season of the year, time of day, sunblock, melanin content of the skin, age, and clothing are a few of these factors. Cannell and associates describes that individuals who train and/or compete above the 35 degree latitude marker, which is half of the United States and all of Canada and Europe, do not receive enough sun exposure to synthesize enough Vitamin D, especially during the fall and winter seasons 2. Others who are at risk are those who engage in indoor sports or train primarily indoors, such as gymnasts, indoor track and field athletes, basketball players, and wrestlers to name a few. There is also a surprisingly high amount of Vitamin D deficiency described in Miami, Florida because of the extensive use of sunblock 3. Vitamin D Deficiency The definition of Vitamin D deficiency is changed almost yearly, as the laboratory levels which determine what is an adequate or inadequate level of vitamin D in the blood serum are changing as well 2, 4. Throughout the novel, Winston talks about his hatred towards Big Brother, the leader of Oceania, and how he wants to put a stop to the party. One way he does that is he falls in love with a young woman named Julia and they have relations with each other to rebel against the party. • 43. Summary Of The Meaning Of Liberal Education The Meaning of Liberal Education In the article, The Meaning of Liberal Education , the author Robert A. Scott explores what the purpose of a liberal arts education is and how it is connected to making students more aware of their world. Scott conveyed that a liberal education provides a broad exposure to be shared by all students no matter their major. He feels that a liberal education will expose the student to the world in which we live. According to Scott, by experiencing a liberal education, the student is able to find questions behind the answers. He stated that history, imagination, and compassion are three essential subjects which need to be discovered during the process of obtaining an education. He feels that too many adults lack the skills to understand the dynamics of cultureand how people interact. After discussing the matter with several professionals, Scott was surprised to find that many employers felt that individuals lacked subject matter knowledge. Internships were considered to be ideal for preparing adults for their future. By receiving internships, the adults would be well rounded. It is thought that by receiving a liberal education, a citizen can acquire a network of fellow students and alumni that they can use throughout their careers and also their social life. Scott is of the opinion that a liberal education nurtures the ability to differentiate between what is true and what is false and an individual can grow intellectually and teach an ... • 45. Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel... Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel Thrilling portray the horror, suffering and inevitable disillusionment of war in their respective poems. The two poets that I am going to compare and contrast in this essay both write from a different perspective of the war. They are writing about different poems, Owen writes about the 1st world war and Thrilling the 2nd. Both poets are in a different setting when they write these poems, Thrilling is back at home whereas Owen is in the middle of the action, he is in the battlefield. This makes his poems more vivid and realistic. Owen was an adult at this stage and writes it from a soldier s point of view, however Thrilling writes from a child s point of view. The poems that I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The soldiers are described by Owen as hard working and faithful as they limped, blood shod. The war is also stressed by the use of the hyperbole. Many metaphors are used in the poem for example rest is used to signify the dead soldiers. The soldiers are portrayed as being dead and are so tired that they are almost like they are drunk, stumbling with fatigue. In the next verse highlighting the immediacy of the action speeds up the pace. GAS, GAS quick boys! The word boys in this sentence emphasises how young and unprotected the soldiers were. It also shows that they are blind to what is happening, they are inexperienced and therefore suffer. The word ecstasy is then used to highlight the chaos and tempo. It is a contrast to the previous verse when they were trudging on the same routine. The army is portrayed as smart and heroic but they are told to us but Owen as clumsy . The simile like floundering in fire is used to highlight that they were not in control of what was happening, they were delirious. The pace is then slowed down as one of the soldier s dies. He is suffocating and this shows us he is totally helpless. We are at this point looking through the soldier s eyes and this emphasises that we are helpless too. The slowing down is as if he is drowning. The gas is suffocating the soldier and it is if he is drowning under the sea because it as described using the metaphor the green sea . The next verse ... • 47. What Is The Thorns In The Scarlet Letter A My project consists of a cake garnished with the red letter A. The A is divided by two contradictory ideas. The initial fraction of the cake has black frosting and a red A on it. The A has thorns around it, showing the immoral part of the letter. The opposite half of the cake has white frosting and a red A and is ornamented with roses instead of barbs. The relationship I am showing by including the two halves of the A is how the idea of the letter changed throughout the book. At first, the letter, and Hester are perceived as sinful, evil, and a smear on Puritan culture. But once Hester becomes a giver in her community, she becomes one who the Puritans regard as being an angel or able. I took advantage of the roses, thorns, and the opposition between black and white, to show how this change happens.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the book, the rose bush outside the prison symbolizes hope where there is none, while at the same time its thorns show the pain of the prisoners in the prison. I used the thorns in the first half to show how Hester is in more sadness at the beginning because she is being criticized so sternly by everybody around her. I used the roses in the second half though to demonstrate how Hester gains hope because of her transformed image. In addition, I chose black and white as the frosting colors of the halves to show how contrasting these two meanings of the letter are. I chose black and white because black is more of a sinful color, which shows how society looks at Hester and only sees her sin through the first parts of the book. White is purer and shows how Hester becomes a symbol of purity to the town, and the A is changed to mean angel instead of an adulterer or a sinner. First, the A viewed as very sinful and evil, and then more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Discussion Of Virtue In Plato s Meno During this week s intro to Plato s Meno and the idea of inputting a portion of the first few pages to improve life I stumbled across an interesting topic. This was what I call differences in species and matter or like Sacrates described it by asking, ... you think it is only in the case of virtue that there is one for a man, another for a woman and so on. (2). There, we can see that he wants to make sure that Meno knows that virtueis no different for man than for a female than for a child. Therefore, this becomes the first anti racial argument that was established. They talk about how bees have different attributes, this being my state of matter, from one another, yet because they are all bees, the same specie, we call them and categorize them as bees and nothing else.
