Theme Of Madame Bovary
In Madame Bovary, Flaubert manipulates the settings in order to illustrate the progression of Emma
s deteriorating state of mind. Each location within Emma s world holds a distinct reality and
expectation she must live according to, due to the strong influence it has on her state of mind.
Within each city Emma undergoes specific types of emotions and attachments that essentially
become the drive to her great depression. Tostes, Yonville, Rouen
, and Paris bind together for a
single purpose in order to display the overall theme of dissatisfaction and repression, which
ultimately become the reason for Emma s ironic death.
The city of Tostes commences the start of Emma s journey by serving as an actual representation of

THe ball serves as a reflection upon her perfectionism and idealism, cultivated in a separate,
outside world she s left only to imagine. It mirrors her extreme naivete when she observes each
and every detail of the ball such as, the clear complexion that is heightened by the pallor of
porcelain, the shimmer of satin, and the veneer of old furniture (35). Emma s distinctive vivid
imagination results in an interference within reality when Charles discovers the cigar case with a
green silk border (37) on their way home from the ball at La Vaubyessard. For Emma, the case
comes to symbolize all the allure, sentimental relationship of the ball itself, and the universe of
highborn simplicity and extravagance it represents. Despite the fact that, she sees the physical,
subtle elements of the ideal setting of the ball, she doesn t consider the entanglements of what this
sort of way of life may bring desire, triviality, or depression. The unfulfilled desires experienced
from the sumptuous ball result in Emma s frustration increasing as she comes to notice that her
longing for an upscale lifestyle soon become diminished by the deterioration of her state of

Essay on George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was born into slavery January of 1860 on the Moses Carver
plantation in Diamond Grove, Missouri. He spent the first year of his life, the brutal days of
border war, between Missouri and neighboring Kansas. George was a very sickly child with a
whooping cough, which later lead to his speech impediment, and he was tiny and puny. George
s father, James Carver, died in a wood hauling accident when he was bringing wood to his master
s house one day. George was sick a great deal during his early years. In 1861, when George was
one year old, raiders kidnapped him and his mother with horses from their home in Missouri.

Psychotic Break In The Wanderer
In The Wanderer , the speaker tells us about the events of an attack on his town and people. He is
the only person that makes it through. Longing for a reconnection to human life, he travels through
empty lands looking to replace his dead lord, kinsmen, and friends. The only connection he has to
human life along this journey are his memories. Solitude makes the speaker believe that all things
on earth come to a tragic end. The poem The Wandererby Anglo Saxons is about social isolation
and reveals a psychotic break. Essentially, the speaker s psychotic break originates from three main
things that happen to him. The first event, that started his decline in mental health, is the war that
wiped out his people. According to NAMI, A traumatic event such as a death, war or sexual assault
can trigger a psychotic episode (Early Psychosis). The speaker tells us that he has gone through both
war and many deaths. The next element that contributes to his deterioration is his... Show more

On several occasions, the speaker tells the reader about his hallucinations. For instance, he says
Sometimes it seems I see my lord, / Kiss and embrace him... (110). Seeing and touching his lord

using the word sometimes at the beginning of the sentence signifies this wasn t a one time
occurrence. In the article Early Psychosis and Psychosis, it states that psychotic breaks typically
involve hallucinations (Early Psychosis). In addition, the speaker says Everything earthly is evilly
born,... (111). The reader can infer that the speaker believes all things are malicious and against
him. In other words, the speaker is paranoid. As reported by Nall, paranoia is an example of a
psychotic symptom (Nall). Paranoia coupled with hallucinations illustrate to the reader that the
speaker is experiencing a psychotic

Jara was born on September 23rd, 1932 in Lonquen to a family of peasants. Lonquen is a town in
Chile, located between the communities of Talagante and Isla de Maipo, within the Metropolitan

school in Santiago. When Jara was only 15 his mother passed away and was urged to enrol in
seminary before enlisting in the Chilean army. Jara started to turn towards the arts and after a while
joined a mime group. When Jara met the folk singer Violetta Parra who was a Chilean composer,
songwriter, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and visual artist. From meeting Violetta Jara delved into

Levi s Not by Jeans Alone
With other companies starting to encroach upon the Jeans market share, Levi s decided to introduce
a new product. With the goal to gain profits, Levi s pursued diversification with the new product.
This product was formal clothing for men.
Levi s divided the consumers into five segments based on demographics, attitudes and beliefs. Q2
and Q1 appeared to be desirable target segments, however, Levi s decided to focus on the Q2
consumers, the classic independent males. These consumers were well dressed, cared about their
appearance, shopped alone and mostly at specialty stores. They weren t price sensitive and
preferred wool/wool blends in conservative colors.

Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the
retailers due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the
specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products
which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among
the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their
products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as
compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some
concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the
stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty
store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these
formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers.
Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore
found them to be expensive.
Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target.
They promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They
failed to understand the needs of their customers.
Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target

The Body s Central Nervous System Essay
Research:
The Brain The brain is known as a spongy organ made up of nerve and supportive tissues. It is
located on top of the head and protected by the skull. Beneath, the brain is linked/connected to the
spinal cord whereby they re considered to be the major control network for the body s functions
and abilities to do work. Both the brain and spinal cord comprises the body s Central Nervous
System (CNS) and empowers conscious communication with the body and also helps perform
vital operations such as breathing, releasing hormones, and maintaining blood pressure. The
Central Nervous System (CNS) works along with the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS).
According to the Canadian Cancer Society, PNS is made up of nerves that branch out from the
spinal cord to relay messages from the brain to different parts of the body. In summary, both CNS
and PNS enable a person to talk, walk, and do lots of creative/physical activities. The brain collects
and interprets nerve signals from the entire body and also responds based on information being
collected from the person itself. There are so many complexity in which many parts of the brain
controls how we feel/emotional needs, our speech, movement, body temperature, self awareness,
and many more. In depth, the brain is divided into several sections/groups. Sections include the
Cerebrum, Cerebellum, brainstem, and the diencephalon.
The cerebrum is considered to be the largest part of the brain. Split in two parts called the left and

How Model Rocket Works
How do model rockets work? A rocket is propelled by thrust produced from the expulsion of gases
or particles, most commonly as a result of a chemical reaction between fuel and an oxidizer that
occurs in a combustion chamber.
A rocket works by the reaction that is occurred in the combustion chamber. the thrust from the
expulsion of gas and particles is in close pressure which makes the reaction longer and with more
power for the rocket to fly higher and faster. the model rocket is used by a model of a rocket itself
and the motor which moves it.
How is rocketry similar to chemistry learning? a chemical reaction between fuel and an oxidizer

Mergers, Construction, Manufacture, Natural Resources And...
1 Introduction Since the early 20th century, mergers began to play a great role in the development
of modern corporations in different fields such as foods, construction, manufacture, natural
resources and technology. A merger can be defined as the absorption of one firm by another (Ross,
Westerfield and Jeffrey, 2002). The acquiring firm maintains its name and identity, and it obtains all
the assets and liabilities of the target company. The acquired company no longer exists as an
independent entity. While mergers could be categorized into three types: horizontal mergers,
vertical mergers and conglomerate mergers. Horizontal merger means that a firm takes over another

Other companies, however, merge in order to reduce the agency costs, which seem not for

for sound economic reasons, whereas some might merge for other reasons. The rest of this
essay is as follows. In order to show the importance of mergers to social economic development
and corporate growth, section 2 will outline the development of merger activities and volume of
corporate mergers in European and American market. Section 3 will focus on the sound
economic reasons of three different types of mergers to discuss their important role in corporate

Budget Planning Concerns
Competition Bikes has a good starting point for a budget but is overall weak and has several

Variable Costs. Overall the company had favorable variances in variable costs, excluding the
efficiency variance. As expected, since Competition Bikes sold less than predicted, their related
costs: direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead and variable expenses were less than
budgeted amounts showing a favorable variance. The labor and overhead revenue and spending
variances however, showed unfavorable due to actual output despite the changes to the flexible
budget. With the prediction of decreases costs based on sales, these costs should have also
decreased. There is no further information on why these rates were high, Competition Bikes will
need to look into those expenses.
Advertising and transportation forecasted costs should have also decreased but instead, increased.
Although an increase in advertising was recommended, the additional costs were not accounted for
in the flexible budget. Transportation out is covered by a per unit contract so the decrease in sales
should have reflected a decrease in transportation out costs. Both of these costs should have
decreased with the decrease in sales like direct materials did. These negative variances indicate the
company cannot control costs. This could be caused by a number things: fraud, miscommunication,
poor forecasting, unexpected economic changes, etc. Competition Bikes needs

JUDGMENT RECOVERY? First let s call it JJR for short. Then let s break it down one word at a
time. 2
A) JUDICIAL means (in this case) a legal court of law . B) JUDGMENT means the
determination of the court , a legal obligation as determined by the judge. C) RECOVERY means
the act of becoming lost). If you know what a court order is then you already have a good idea. A
court order is pretty much a judicial judgment in that they both mean, in essence, As Ordered By
The Court . So what does it mean to us? It means that when one person (the plaintiff), sues another
person (the defendant), in small claims court, and wins, it s because the court ordered the
defendant, now known as the judgment debtor, to pay the plaintiff, usually, a said dollar amount.
So now the plaintiff is awarded a piece of paper proclaiming them a judgment winner. But are they
really the winner? The easy part was winning the case. Now comes the difficult part, and that is
getting the judgment debtor to actually pay up. You see, the court cannot collect the money for the
judgment winners. It is actually up to the judgment winners to collect their own judgments. But

[. . .] By these definitions, Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico are a nation; Puerto Ricans in New York
may still be part of the Puerto Rican nation, depending on who is doing the defining, but in the U.S.
mainland they constitute an ethnic group. (12)
The fact that island Puerto Ricans see themselves as a nation whereas mainland Puerto Ricans see
themselves as a minority and an ethnic group in The United States, gives rise to the main
differences that exist between the two. However, in order to delve into deeper comparisons between
the ways in which island and mainland Puerto Ricans self identify, it is imperative to understand the
historical events that have shaped Puerto Ricans and their heritage.
Puerto Rico s association with the United States and its metamorphosis began when in 1898 U.S.
troops invaded Puerto Rico during the Spanish American War. Up until that point, Puerto Rico had
remained one of Spain s last two colonies in the New World. Puerto Rico s Spanish heritage is
seen when Puerto Rican essayist Antonio Pedreira, writing in the 1930 s, termed the first three
centuries of Spanish rule a period of faithful prolongation of the Spanish culture (qtd. in Morris 21).
Spanish influence is also seen when without rejecting his Puerto Rican Spanishness, the Puerto
Rican considered himself a Spaniard from here with ideas and reactions different from those from
there (qtd.

A Research Study On The Expression, Publish Or Perish, Is...
The expression publish or perish is the norm within all academic disciplines and researchers will
not get tenured if they do not publish academic work (Miller, Taylor Bedeian, 2011; Simmons,
Nelson Simonsohn, 2012; De Rond Miller, 2005). The same is true for professors applying for
grants or graduate students seeking scholarships, where having more publications will set someone
apart from other candidates. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as good researchers are expected
to produce good research, however standards for most scholarly journals to publish an academic
article mostly rely on significance (Sterling, 2012). Studies not finding significant results do not get
published and are often considered failures (Cumming, 2008;... Show more content on

The following will discuss the replication crisis from an undergraduate student s perspective and
how it affected my undergraduate journey specifically. Introductory statistics are part of the
problem Initial statistical courses are exciting, as students are taught the foundations of
conducting research by learning about inferential statistics. However, important topics such as
power, confidence intervals and effect sizes are briefly discussed and quickly forgotten due to
the large amount of new information taught in those courses. Over time, students simply learn to
rely on p values, where p .05, the null hypothesis is rejected and p .05, the null hypothesis is
retained. Statistics are overwhelming and a lot of practice and reading are required to fully
understand how it really works. I am a fourth year student and consider myself as having a
higher than average knowledge of statistics compared to most fellow students in my year, but I
have a lot to learn and am aware that I still do not understand most of it. That is one reason why
NHST is surviving, as it is convenient and a strong statistical knowledge is not needed to apply it
in research. The point is that appropriate ways to interpret statistics and ethical research practices
should be taught as early as possible to avoid the use of common unethical research practices. Next,

Research And Management Of Chronic Low Back Pain
Part B Critical Literature Review
Part B of this paper will critically review and compare four articles identified as relevant to the
topic chosen for systematic review proposal. The review will therefore be analysing the research
methods, description of the study, design and significance of findings to the topic of research and
management of chronic low back pain. Further, the review will discuss some strength and
weakness associated with the chosen articles and relevant findings and their implication for
current and future practice. Critical Literature Review has been described as a systematic process
through which the strengths and weaknesses of a research study can be identified (Young 2009).
Such process would assist the reader to appraise and evaluate the study s usefulness and therefore
determine whether its findings could be dependable and be used in clinical practice (Young 2009).
As previously stated, the articles were searched through the UOW Library databases; and the total
of articles identified during search were 148 journal articles, and articles which were not indirectly
meeting the criteria were excluded from this review; and inclusion criterial included studies that
randomized controlled trials.

Essay on Setting in Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour
Elements of Setting in Kate Chopin s Short Story, The Story of an Hour
Setting exists in every form of fiction, representing elements of time, place, and social context
throughout the work. These elements can create particular moods, character qualities, or features of
theme. Throughout Kate Chopin s short story The Story of an Hour, differing amounts and types of
the setting are revealed as the plot develops. This story deals with a young woman s emotional state
as she discovers her own independence in her husband s death, then her tragic discovery that he is
actually alive. The constituents of setting reveal certain characteristics about the main character,
Louise Mallard, and are functionally important to the story ... Show more content on

The breath of rain seems to cleanse Louise as well, as she views this as a way to start her life
afresh. In this story, the time of year somewhat symbolizes her own internal springtime, further
developing the rationale behind her character. If this story took place in a different time of year, it
would not be as coherent. There would be no explanation for Louise s sudden attitude reversal from
mourning to enlightened anticipation of the future.
The Mallards house, the area where the entire action of the story takes place, is extremely
significant in understanding the subtleties of the plot and characters. The house is two stories tall,
with two main rooms shown in detail: the front parlor, which is downstairs, and Louise s bedroom,
upstairs. The two floors are significantly different, both in the mood and in the emotions brought
out in each one. It is in the parlor that Louise first hears of her husband s death and later ultimately
discovers that he lives. Yet she achieves true enlightenment and understanding upstairs, in her
bedroom. The particular level of the house that Louise is in conveys certain emotions and reveals
two different aspects of her character. Downstairs she is the good wife, mourning the loss of her
husband at first and later swooning from what the doctors believe to be joy that kills (14).
Downstairs she must act like the typical late nineteenth century woman, completely

The Birthmark Rhetorical Analysis
A mainstream and deeply American way of thinking about the nation s past, present, and future.
this was the definition and meaning of American jeremiad that was given by scholars. The
American jeremiad sustains a contradictory rhetorical of hope and fear where there is tension
between ideal and real. The jeremiad is a rhetorical tradition that appeared in most of America s
history, and it began in Puritan New England. Puritan New England was where jeremiad got its
American stamp and where it was most commonly used and developed into what it is now called
American jeremiad. People think of puritan New England as a society where religion such as
Christian and civil government were intertwined. Never has anyone imagine a society where

Literary Analysis Of The Hunger Games
Fighting to the End
There is not a single fascinating work of fiction to be found which has no hero to admire. The
notion of a hero implies a charismatic, and often selfless person, whose indispensable qualities are
determination and fortitude. Having a clear goal, they do everything possible to achieve it. Katniss
Everdeen, the protagonist of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, possesses all the features
inherent in a true hero.
The narration takes place in a post apocalyptic North America. The nation state of Panem is
separated into twelve districts, the thirteenth of which having been destroyed due to the first
rebellion against the Capitol. Katniss hails from a poor coal mining District 12, where she lives
with her mother and younger sister Prim. The Hunger Games is an event held by the Capitol
every year, used as a means to both entertain its citizens and to constantly remind the districts of its
immense authoritative power. Two tributes, one boy and one girl, are randomly selected from each
district by means of a lottery system on Reaping Day. The games reach its end when a single
tribute is still alive and proclaimed the winner.
The hero receives a call to adventure when her sister Primrose is initially selected as a tribute.
Immediately and without hesitation, Katniss volunteers to take her sister s place, only to realize
afterwards what a fierce struggle she is about to undertake with her life on the line. The girls father

Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of Identity In Society
Priveledged individuals ought not appropriate the culture of a marginalized group. In other
words, people shouldn t dress up or adorn themselves with clothing or objects that belong to
another culture (or in a way that is offensive). This halloween, many parents were cautious about
letting their child dress up as Polynesian Disney princess, because they were unsure of what
others would say. Is it appropriate for a white child to dress up as a Polynesian princess? I would
say no. It gives people from other cultures the impression that you think of them as costumes, and
not people. Some important topicality would be the words:
Appropriate: To take something for their own use
Marginalized: To prevent something from having attention or power.
Privileged: Enjoying special advantages, available only to a select group.
My value, Dignity. It is inappropriate for someone who isn t Polynesian to dress up as a princess
from that race, or any race that they do not belong to. It could be percieved the wrong way, even if
the wearer isn t intentionally deriding those of another race. It shows that we think of that race as
just costumes, and aren t really looking into the deeper culture, as well as the spiritual meaning of
their practices or adornments. My criterion is Deontology. I believe that people that are free and
rational beings should also be able to go about their lives without feeling ridiculed by other races
in a manner that makes them feel uncomfortable, or causes them any reason to feel as if they are
being made fun of.
People from other cultures are getting mocked, and ridiculed as if they are less than a person.
Sachi Feris, a blogger that was mentioned in an article in Opposing Views says, I don t like the
idea of dressing someone up as someone with another culture, because it s like we re laughing at
her culture by making it a costume. This causes reason for fights in racially tense times, which is
something none of us need, and doesn t benefit us in the process. If we refrain from selling
offensive costumes that would cause conflict between other cultures and ourselves, we would avoid
conflict that would cause unsavory relationships with them. If there is a grey area, it is best to just

, a modern adaptation of Charles Perrault s Little Red Riding Hood . In his fairy talePerrault
prevents girls from men s nature. In Hopkinson s adaptation, the goal remains the same: through the
grandmother biographic narration, the author elaborates a slightly revisited plot without altering
the moral: young girls should beware of men; especially when they seem innocent. This modern

In Hopkinson s story, experience is central as it leads to potential complications the grandmother
tries to avoid for her granddaughter by telling her personal story. The mother opposes her
mother s urges for protection and tells her it is not necessary to frighten her daughter because
girlie s too young yet, there s plenty of time. (2). The mother sees her mother s personal story as
a ghastly old wi[fe s] tale[s]. (1 2) therefore there is no rush to inform her child on dangers, but
also because she believes her girl is too young. This opposition between both characters links to a
broader opposition between two different ways to report events: on the one hand this story could
be based on realistic facts when on the other hand it contains allegories and a moral which are
features of fairy tales. This text mixes both types which revels Hopkinson s style, designated by

The Verchimelungsmaifest Gegen Den Rationalismus Der...
This manifesto, originally called the Verchimelungsmaifest gegen den Rationalismus in der
Architektur , has been presented during a recitation in the Abbey of Seckau, in Austria, on the 4th
of July 1958, by his author Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Hundertwasser (Friedrich Stowasser; born 15 December 1928 in Vienna) was an Austrian visionary
architect, artist and spiritual ecologist, founder of the Transautomatism theory and style. He
believed that he was at the vanguard of the Avant guard, transcending the automatism of the
Tachism and the Informalism, reaching this way an ultimate unsurpassable point, from which all
improvements and efforts can be inspected and organized as a meaningful whole.
He often referred to himself as the architecture doctor, redesigning functional and industrial building
into art pieces.
Abstract
This paper deals with the idea that everyone should have freedom in architecture, the same
freedom that everyone has in painting and sculpture: to produce any kind of work and afterwards
exhibit it. This freedom can only be achieved if we let everyone build his own dwellings and be
the architect bricklayer occupant of the building, as this is the only way for the man to regain his
critical creative function, without which he cannot exist as a human being. The author compares
people living in buildings built following functional architecture rules, to animals living in cages,
all equally foreign to the nature of the cage . Straight lines are

Identity Theft Is An Important Factor
Identity theft is the deliberate use of someone else s identity, usually as a method to gain a
financial advantage or obtain credit and other benefits in the other person s name, and perhaps to
the other person s disadvantage or loss. The person whose identity has been assumed may suffer
adverse consequences if they are held responsible for the perpetrator s actions. Identity theftoccurs
when someone uses another s personally identifying information, like their name, identifying
number, or credit card number, without their permission, to commit fraud or other crimes.
When people think of identity theft, more often than not they assume that it only happens to
wealthy people. Who would bother stealing the identity of a college student who can barely
make ends meet? The harsh reality of the matter is that anyone can be a victim. College students
are particularly vulnerable, because they are most likely to be careless or unaware where their
credit reports are concerned. The fact that they don t expect to be targeted by identity thieves is an
important factor. The more you know, the more you are able to prevent identity theft from
happening to you. According to the US Federal Trade Commission, majority of the reports they
receive on identity theft were filed by victims aged 20 to 29.
Take note of these eight types of identity theft and protect yourself.
1.) Financial Identity Theft
Financial ID Theft When people hear the words identity theft , often times

The Genre Of Romantic Comedy
The genre of romantic comedy has been successful throughout history. Men and women alike
watch these films for several reasons, even though they are predictable. Whether it s for the
comedy portrayed, or the love story itself, romantic comedies provide aspects of a story that
almost anyone can appreciate. Over time, people began to argue that contemporary romantic
comedies have depreciated, but this does not hold true. When comparing Judd Apatow s
Knocked Up (2007), which is about a stoner low life, played by Seth Rogan, who knocks up co
star, Katherine Heigl, who plays Allison, to George Cukor s Adam s Rib (1949), which tells the
story of two attorneys bickering over their shared court case, there is a radical difference between
the two films in their sheer content to portray a love story while sharing the common romantic
comedyplot, but one tells a superior love story.
The first notable difference between these films is the kind of humor utilized to articulate the
story. According to David Denby, Knocked Up s humor is vulgar and unnecessary, but the humor
in this film is not unnecessary. The Knocked Up no doubt contains extremely inappropriate and
offensive humor compared to Adam s Rib, but comedy has evolved in response to a changing
society. As written by George Gerbner in Common Culture, (certain things were not allowed on
screen). Comedy in Adam s Rib consisted of slapstick humor associated with the good ol times of
the late 40 s and 50 s. The audience witnesses

The classism that gentrification brings into communities cannot be understated, simply because it
is one of the negative driven byproducts of it, because when individuals are forced to see homes in
their respective communities go for 2 to 3 times the market value for what they were previously

Areas that have seen the wholesale installment of the businesses that stem from gentrification are

many people over the worldand it has benefited us greatly. It s a wonderful way to stay connected
to the world and never miss out on events and important new broadcast.
It has advanced more further than anyone has imagined because the more we discover more things
about modern technology an apply with the knowledge that we already know and come up with a
sequence to make it correspond with other types of function. This can help the community use the
device in an easy format to benefit workers, school students, instructors. Many say that technology
will never stop evolving because each new generation has a different mindset and how they look
at thing. To improve you must have a fresh mind and think outside the box to form something new.
I would say that technology has put life in a unique perspective because it s made things easier for
the new generation because back then they didn t have the resources that we have now. To better
ourselves we must adapted to new and growing generation so that we can teach them how thing
work and pass it down towards the next.
The technology field has a lot of different forms because each has a different process on how each
action like paying a bill with a credit

John Cages Influence On Society
As one of the most radical composers in the 20th century, John Cage introduced new ideas of what
music is. Breaking away from the traditional idea that music stems solely from the musician s
preconceived and structured arrangement of sounds from specific instruments, Cage s philosophy
of music is based on the idea that all sounds can work cooperatively to create music, including those
from the environment.
Strongly influenced by the principles in Zen Buddhism and Indian music, Cage began to explore
new medians for music; He incorporated different elements by relying heavily on chance and
randomness. Cage worked hard to create pieces that detached himself, as the composer, far away
from the piece itself as possible to allow the listener

Frontline PBS Documentary on the real CSI
Summary: Frontline PBS Documentary on the real CSI In this video Correspondent LOWELL
BERGMAN questions the scientific validity of forensic science. He also expresses that it is not
as simple as it appears on television shows. Detective. Joanna Grivetti who is a crime scene
investigator in Richmond, California explains that the real life CSI is getting dirty, smelling
things you don t want to smell, seeing things you don t want to see and dealing with blood in
order to collect evidence that may seem small at the time, but will ultimately (possibly) be a big
deal in solving the case. For over a century fingerprints have been one of the most used tools of
forensic science. Fingerprints have been used to identify criminals of small crimes... Show more

He was convicted and sent to the Mississippi state penitentiary to await execution. Thanks to an
organization called The Innocence Project and Peter Neufeld (Lawyer Co founder), both Brooks
and Brewer were eventually cleared of the wrongful convictions and released. Neufeld stated
that there have been hundreds of people who were wrongfully convicted based on Bite Mark
testimony. Neufeld further stated that a study of the cases of people who were exonerated by
DNA evidence showed that 60% of those cases involved invalid evidence or misapplication of
science. In the Casey Anthony case Jeff Ashton who is a former state attorney in Orange county
Florida, and also the first prosecutor in the United States to get a conviction based on DNA
decided to use a new Forensic method in the Anthony case. The smell of death would be the

carpet was removed, sealed and sent to Dr. Vass, a forensic anthropologist at Oak Ridge National

Communism In America Essay
Despite what my opponent would have you believe, communism is not a danger to America
meaning that Nixon, McCarthy, and the HUAC are all unnecessary. Firstly, a brief explanation of
some of the terms I will be using. Capitalism is an economic system where businesses and the
means of production are owned by private individuals for profit. In a socialist economy, the means
of productionare owned by the community as a whole and individuals get rewarded for their work
based on the following principle: from each according to his ability, to each according to his
contribution. In communism, items are divided up based on, from each according to his ability, to
each according to his need. Finally, I will use the terms proletariat and bourgeoisie.... Show more

There is a difference between a country and the economic theory that it is currently using (reminder,
the USSR is not communist nor is it socialist).
Fourthly, suppressing an idea from America is the least American action you could do. In America,
free speech is a highly valued freedom, and, to quote Benjamin Franklin, Those who would give up
essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety (all
perceived threats from communism are not actual threats since the threats would be coming from
the USSR). Freedom of speech is an essential liberty.
Fifthly, all perceived danger from the USSR is nowhere near the amount of actual danger they are
in because of us. America was the first to use a nuclear bomb in war, and we have a general
intolerance for the USSR. Combined, this is frightening.
Finally, Joseph McCarthy and Richard Nixon have accused both innocent and guilty people of
communism and/or being a spy for the USSR because of their communism.
To recap, Senators McCarthy and Nixon have attacked innocent people for being communist spies
since they are possibly communist for a country that isn t even communist and tried to suppress a
simple idea, thereby proving that they deserve neither liberty nor safety, all in the name of political

Essay on Frivolous Lawsuits
Justice, Tranquility and The Greed for Money
Lynn Hubbard is handicapped. She happens to also have her own law firm. In the past year, she
sued more than 600 nearly irreproachable institutions for over two million dollars. Hubbard and her
entourage of scheming lawyers have not done anything illegal. Some may argue that she has simply
exercised her right to the legal system. In any case, Hubbard is part of the growing American
society that has discovered large money in mass litigation. This rise in greedy and manipulative
lawyers has provided Americans with a skewed financial interest in the American courtroom and has
hindered the justice system as a whole. Congress must reexamine tort reform to provide Americans

His argument, which focuses on the separation of powers in the American government, explains
why Americans rush to the courtrooms unlike other democratic countries. The concept of checks
and balances, America s system of separated powers, limited national control over state and local
police forces and independent judiciary, was intended to protect American citizensfrom tyranny
(Burke 24). However, it has also made it harder for elected leaders to get things done. Take
Britain, Germany, or France, for instance, all of which have centralized governments that
provide them with safeguards and social welfare benefits. Instead of national healthcare that is
practiced throughout Europe, Americans get proposals for a patients bill of rights that would
allow the sick to sue their managed care companies (Burke 22). The problem has become so out
of control in the United States, doctors in Florida, New Jersey, and West Virginia went on strike
earlier this year. Delaying surgeries, in an effort to decrease annual insurance premiums of over
$100,000, doctors asked Congress for reform on malpractice liability and lowered caps on pain
and suffering. Eduardo Esper, a cardiothoracic surgeon in Wheeling, West Virginia, was part of the
walk out that occurred early in January of 2003. We re not prepared, having spent all night with a
patient, for that patient to come back and sue us. And the majority of the time those suits are

Private Goods vs. Public Goods
Tim Randall Public or Private Good Public goods have characteristics of non rival and non
excludable. The former entails that one person s consumption does not affect another s
consumption of a good; the latter conveys that one individual cannot prevent another from
consuming a good (EconPort.org. N.D. PP. 1). Conversely, a private good is both rival and
excludable. An individual owns their good, not everyone can own the same good (rival), and
each individual can exclude others from using that good (excludable). Mixed goods are hybrids
of public and private: Common Pool Resource goods display the rival elements but are non
excludable, while Club Goods contain the non rival element but are excludable (EconPort.org.
N.D. PP. 1). Congested toll roads Private good, because some can be excluded from its use by
the fee, and rival, because more vehicles on the road indicates one person s use is impacting
other individuals using the same road (i.e. less available space). Knowledge Broadly defined as
a public good, because one person s use of information does not diminish another s use of the
same information (non rival), and one individual cannot prevent another from using the
knowledge. Broadly defined because private intellectual property could be considered a private
good if others are not allowed to use it. Fish in the ocean Common pool resource, because no one
can be excluded from fishing in the ocean however, there is a limited supply of fish (rival). National

Dehumanism In Huckleberry Finn Essay

The United States is known for its prosperous upbringing in becoming the richest country in the

Evolution of Tapetum Lucidum
Human Eye Vs. Animal EyeпїјпїјBy:Andrea Torres
ABSTRACT
The tapetum lucidum is an evolutionary advantage for animals. It enables animals to see in dimmer
light than the animal would otherwise be able to see in. The tapetum lucidum is useful to animals,
but it also has a use to humans. Human beings use the tapetum lucidum to scan for reflected eye
shine, in order to detect and identify the species of animals in the dark and to send trained search
dogs and search horses out at night. Historically, its function was regarded as simply to increase the
light intensity of an image on the retina. Using eye shine to identify animals in the dark implies not
only color but, also several other features. The color reciprocates to the type of tapetum ... Show

The tapetum lucidum, reflects with constructive interference allowing it to increase the quality of
light to pass through the retina. For example, on a cat the tapetum lucidum lowers the minimum
threshold of vision 6 fold, empowering the cat to see light that is invisible to the human. пїј

TYPES OF TAPETUM
Tapeta can be classified according to their location in vertebrates and mechanism in invertebrates.
Choroidal tapeta are the most common and are classified as tapetum fibrosum and tapetum
cellulosum. The simplest type is the tapetum fibrosum, which is found principally in mammals,
including herbivores (elephants, horses and goats), cetaceans (whales and dolphins), certain
marsupials (Tasmanian Devil), and a rodent (Cuniculus pacas). The tapetum fibrosum consists of
extracellular collagen fibrils that are stacked orderly with the majority of the its fibers running
horizontally. The number of layered fibrils varies between species and can be up to several hundred
thick. The most studied tapetum fibrosum among mammals is found in the cow and is located
posteriorly and dorsally. The thickness is variable, increasing its thickness posteriorly. In species
with a choroidal tapetum, the retinal epithelium in the area is the tapetum in un pigmented, it
allowing the light to pass subsequently reflected by the tapetum. This contrasts with the pigmented

The Great Mosque Of Cordoba Vs. Hagia Sophia
The Great Mosque of Cordoba vs. Hagia Sophia Religion has played a huge role in the history of
the world of architecture. We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we
look at their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the
approach to architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches
and the outlooks of those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings,
the Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their
approach to constructing architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion
played a huge role, there are similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who
commissioned these buildings were interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that
their building was the most beautiful and perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their
divinity as a ruler of a great nation. The Hagia Sophia was built in Constantinoplein A.D. 532 by the
emperor Justinian, who hired the renowned architects Anthemius and Isidorus to build it. It was
built over an existing building built by Constantine himself. The Hagia Sophia was a very
significant building of its time and one that drew attention and respect. At this time in history the
Byzantines, specifically Justinian, wanted to make one message clear, that message being that the
emperor of the byzantines empire,

The Psychology Behind The Paul O Neal Shooting Essay
The Psychology Behind the Paul O Neal Shooting
On July 28, an eighteen year old black male named Paul O Neal was driving a stolen vehicle when
he was chased down, shot, and killed by police after a heavy car and foot pursuit. The collection of
an ABC7 News written report ( Paul O Neal Chicago, 2016) along with police body and vehicle
dashboard cameras gives a clear picture of what took place. Indeed, there were a number of
psychological concepts at play during the incident, and it is crucial for authorities and the public to
understand the extent to which the human mind and body are, at times, inevitably predisposed to
these phenomena.
The ABC7 News report (2016) begins with a description of the car chase based on the footage
supplemented in the article:
The video shows an officer getting out of a police SUV patrolling Merrill and nearly being
clipped by the jaguar, which careened off the SUV as both officers opened fire on the car. It drove
off and the officers continued to shoot...Dashcam from the oncoming police car captured the Jaguar
crashing into it head on and causing the airbag to deploy. O Neal ran, and officers pursued... ( Paul
O Neal Chicago, 2016)
O Neal s actions can be analyzed through the Negative Affect Escape Model, which explains the
temporary linear relationship between the intensity of aversive stimuli and the negative affect and
aggression associated with it, until a non aggressive response takes over (Eysenck, 2004, p. 683). O

Labour Based on anecdotal evidence, almost all the sales associates employed at the Holland
Barrett, are foreign workers. As far as one can tell, most of these workers are from the People s

Singapore s tight labour market, especially in the retail industry, it has implications on the quality

The Values And Values Of Mahathir Mohamad
Values and Visions of Mahathir Mohamad After the Asian financial crisis in 1997 that brought an
end to the economic miracle in Southeast Asia, Malaysia has become an exception case since it
could mitigated the turmoil s adverse effects, such as rising unemployment or the breakdown of the
political regimes. With the leadership of Mahathir Mohamad, the Malaysian government refused the
advices of IMF (International Monetary Fund) that included austerity and liberalization of capital
mobility. Instead of implementing market reform, Mahathir employed state owned financial
institutions and enterprises, for example, Petronas, to bail out troubled businesses, imposed capital
controls, and pegged Ringgit with US dollars (Khoo, 2006). As a result of... Show more content on

First, Mahathir promoted the birth and expansion of the Malay capitalist class during 1980 s via
privatizations, abandoning NEP s spirits that used state owned holding companies as a
shareholders of Malay people. Sadly, the beneficiaries from the public asset transfers were not
ordinary Malay people, but the politically connected businessman, principally the cronies of
Mahathir, Daim and Anwar (Wain, 2009: 102). The unequal access to privatized benefits led to the
widening intra ethnic inequality among Malays (Gomez and Jomo, 1997). Second, Mahathir
exploited his popular supports, especially from rural voters, as a resource to fulfill his desire of
being an authoritarian leader with the legitimacy from the institutionalized political party (Wain:
53). A case in point was the 1983 constitutional crisis, which was caused by Mahathir s attempt to
increase the autonomy of the Parliament and reduce Royal s authority to interfere in the legislative
process (Khoo, 1995: 202 209). The authoritarian status of Mahathir formally limited citizens power
to restrict the UNMO dominated government s unpopular actions. According these two situations,
Mahathir s heterodox methods, which were used against the financial crisis, might not only relates
to his visions and values of Malaysian society and economy, but also Mahathir s authority and his
cronies interests. The conditionality of IMF could dismantle the business empires of Mahathir s
networks that could lead the erosion of his authoritarian power, as he would hardly access resource

Each location within Emma s world holds a distinct reality and expectation she must live according to, due to the strong influence it has on her state of mind. Within each city Emma undergoes specific types of emotions and attachments that essentially become the drive to her great depression. Tostes, Yonville, Rouen , and Paris bind together for a single purpose in order to display the overall theme of dissatisfaction and repression, which ultimately become the reason for Emma s ironic death. THe ball serves as a reflection upon her perfectionism and idealism, cultivated in a separate, outside world she s left only to imagine. It mirrors her extreme naivete when she observes each and every detail of the ball such as, the clear complexion that is heightened by the pallor of porcelain, the shimmer of satin, and the veneer of old furniture (35). Emma s distinctive vivid imagination results in an interference within reality when Charles discovers the cigar case with a green silk border (37) on their way home from the ball at La Vaubyessard. For Emma, the case comes to symbolize all the allure, sentimental relationship of the ball itself, and the universe of highborn simplicity and extravagance it represents. Despite the fact that, she sees the physical, subtle elements of the ideal setting of the ball, she doesn t consider the entanglements of what this sort of way of life may bring desire, triviality, or depression. The unfulfilled desires experienced from the sumptuous ball result in Emma s frustration increasing as she comes to notice that her longing for an upscale lifestyle soon become diminished by the deterioration of her state of ... Longing for a reconnection to human life, he travels through empty lands looking to replace his dead lord, kinsmen, and friends. The only connection he has to human life along this journey are his memories. Solitude makes the speaker believe that all things on earth come to a tragic end. The poem The Wandererby Anglo Saxons is about social isolation and reveals a psychotic break. Essentially, the speaker s psychotic break originates from three main things that happen to him. The first event, that started his decline in mental health, is the war that wiped out his people. With the goal to gain profits, Levi s pursued diversification with the new product. This product was formal clothing for men. Levi s divided the consumers into five segments based on demographics, attitudes and beliefs. Q2 and Q1 appeared to be desirable target segments, however, Levi s decided to focus on the Q2 consumers, the classic independent males. These consumers were well dressed, cared about their appearance, shopped alone and mostly at specialty stores. They weren t price sensitive and preferred wool/wool blends in conservative colors. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the retailers due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive. Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target. They promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They failed to understand the needs of their customers. Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As expected, since Competition Bikes sold less than predicted, their related costs: direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead and variable expenses were less than budgeted amounts showing a favorable variance. The labor and overhead revenue and spending variances however, showed unfavorable due to actual output despite the changes to the flexible budget. With the prediction of decreases costs based on sales, these costs should have also decreased. There is no further information on why these rates were high, Competition Bikes will need to look into those expenses. Advertising and transportation forecasted costs should have also decreased but instead, increased. Although an increase in advertising was recommended, the additional costs were not accounted for in the flexible budget. Transportation out is covered by a per unit contract so the decrease in sales should have reflected a decrease in transportation out costs. You do not need any type of license to do this type of work. What exactly is JUDICIAL JUDGMENT RECOVERY? First let s call it JJR for short. Then let s break it down one word at a time. 2 A) JUDICIAL means (in this case) a legal court of law . B) JUDGMENT means the determination of the court , a legal obligation as determined by the judge. C) RECOVERY means the act of becoming lost). If you know what a court order is then you already have a good idea. A court order is pretty much a judicial judgment in that they both mean, in essence, As Ordered By The Court . So what does it mean to us? It means that when one person (the plaintiff), sues another person (the defendant), in small claims court, and wins, it s because the court ordered the defendant, now known as the judgment debtor, to pay the plaintiff, usually, a said dollar amount. So now the plaintiff is awarded a piece of paper proclaiming them a judgment winner. But are they really the winner? The easy part was winning the case. Now comes the difficult part, and that is getting the judgment debtor to actually pay up. You see, the court cannot collect the money for the judgment winners. It is actually up to the judgment winners to collect their own judgments. But with no pressure to

Differences Between Island and Mainland Puerto Ricans Essay Differences Between Island and Mainland Puerto Ricans As many immigrants arrive in the United States of America and begin to call it home , comparisons between such immigrants are certainly inevitable. In particular, the U.S. Hispanic population gives more room for such comparisons since their cultures and traditions are very similar. Most of their similarities stem from a common Spanish heritage. However, there is a lot more to being Hispanic than just speaking Spanish or eating rice and beans. What most people do not understand is that there are also many differences amongst Hispanics and that, most of all, there are many differences between people born and raised in Hispanic countries and people born and raised in the United ... (12) The fact that island Puerto Ricans see themselves as a nation whereas mainland Puerto Ricans see themselves as a minority and an ethnic group in The United States, gives rise to the main differences that exist between the two. However, in order to delve into deeper comparisons between the ways in which island and mainland Puerto Ricans self identify, it is imperative to understand the historical events that have shaped Puerto Ricans and their heritage. Puerto Rico s association with the United States and its metamorphosis began when in 1898 U.S. troops invaded Puerto Rico during the Spanish American War. Up until that point, Puerto Rico had remained one of Spain s last two colonies in the New World. Puerto Rico s Spanish heritage is seen when Puerto Rican essayist Antonio Pedreira, writing in the 1930 s, termed the first three centuries of Spanish rule a period of faithful prolongation of the Spanish culture (qtd. in Morris 21). Spanish influence is also seen when without rejecting his Puerto Rican Spanishness, the Puerto Rican considered himself a Spaniard from here with ideas and reactions different from those from there (qtd. ... The expression publish or perish is the norm within all academic disciplines and researchers will not get tenured if they do not publish academic work (Miller, Taylor Bedeian, 2011; Simmons, Nelson Simonsohn, 2012; De Rond Miller, 2005). The same is true for professors applying for grants or graduate students seeking scholarships, where having more publications will set someone apart from other candidates. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as good researchers are expected to produce good research, however standards for most scholarly journals to publish an academic article mostly rely on significance (Sterling, 2012). Introductory statistics are part of the problem Initial statistical courses are exciting, as students are taught the foundations of conducting research by learning about inferential statistics. However, important topics such as power, confidence intervals and effect sizes are briefly discussed and quickly forgotten due to the large amount of new information taught in those courses. Over time, students simply learn to rely on p values, where p .05, the null hypothesis is rejected and p .05, the null hypothesis is retained. Statistics are overwhelming and a lot of practice and reading are required to fully understand how it really works. I am a fourth year student and consider myself as having a higher than average knowledge of statistics compared to most fellow students in my year, but I have a lot to learn and am aware that I still do not understand most of it. That is one reason why NHST is surviving, as it is convenient and a strong statistical knowledge is not needed to apply it in research. These elements can create particular moods, character qualities, or features of theme. Throughout Kate Chopin s short story The Story of an Hour, differing amounts and types of the setting are revealed as the plot develops. This story deals with a young woman s emotional state as she discovers her own independence in her husband s death, then her tragic discovery that he is actually alive. The constituents of setting reveal certain characteristics about the main character, Louise Mallard, and are functionally important to the story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The breath of rain seems to cleanse Louise as well, as she views this as a way to start her life afresh. In this story, the time of year somewhat symbolizes her own internal springtime, further developing the rationale behind her character. If this story took place in a different time of year, it would not be as coherent. There would be no explanation for Louise s sudden attitude reversal from mourning to enlightened anticipation of the future. The Mallards house, the area where the entire action of the story takes place, is extremely significant in understanding the subtleties of the plot and characters. The house is two stories tall, with two main rooms shown in detail: the front parlor, which is downstairs, and Louise s bedroom, upstairs. The two floors are significantly different, both in the mood and in the emotions brought out in each one. It is in the parlor that Louise first hears of her husband s death and later ultimately discovers that he lives. Yet she achieves true enlightenment and understanding upstairs, in her bedroom. The particular level of the house that Louise is in conveys certain emotions and reveals two different aspects of her character. • 31. Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of Identity In Society Priveledged individuals ought not appropriate the culture of a marginalized group. In other words, people shouldn t dress up or adorn themselves with clothing or objects that belong to another culture (or in a way that is offensive). This halloween, many parents were cautious about letting their child dress up as Polynesian Disney princess, because they were unsure of what others would say. Is it appropriate for a white child to dress up as a Polynesian princess? I would say no. It gives people from other cultures the impression that you think of them as costumes, and not people. Some important topicality would be the words: Appropriate: To take something for their own use Marginalized: To prevent something from having attention or power. Privileged: Enjoying special advantages, available only to a select group. My value, Dignity. It is inappropriate for someone who isn t Polynesian to dress up as a princess from that race, or any race that they do not belong to. It could be percieved the wrong way, even if the wearer isn t intentionally deriding those of another race. It shows that we think of that race as just costumes, and aren t really looking into the deeper culture, as well as the spiritual meaning of their practices or adornments. My criterion is Deontology. I believe that people that are free and rational beings should also be able to go about their lives without feeling ridiculed by other races in a manner that makes them feel uncomfortable, or causes them any reason to feel as if they are being made fun of. People from other cultures are getting mocked, and ridiculed as if they are less than a person. Sachi Feris, a blogger that was mentioned in an article in Opposing Views says, I don t like the idea of dressing someone up as someone with another culture, because it s like we re laughing at her culture by making it a costume. This causes reason for fights in racially tense times, which is something none of us need, and doesn t benefit us in the process. If we refrain from selling offensive costumes that would cause conflict between other cultures and ourselves, we would avoid conflict that would cause unsavory relationships with them. In his fairy talePerrault prevents girls from men s nature. In Hopkinson s adaptation, the goal remains the same: through the grandmother biographic narration, the author elaborates a slightly revisited plot without altering the moral: young girls should beware of men; especially when they seem innocent. This manifesto, originally called the Verchimelungsmaifest gegen den Rationalismus in der Architektur , has been presented during a recitation in the Abbey of Seckau, in Austria, on the 4th of July 1958, by his author Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Hundertwasser (Friedrich Stowasser; born 15 December 1928 in Vienna) was an Austrian visionary architect, artist and spiritual ecologist, founder of the Transautomatism theory and style. He believed that he was at the vanguard of the Avant guard, transcending the automatism of the Tachism and the Informalism, reaching this way an ultimate unsurpassable point, from which all improvements and efforts can be inspected and organized as a meaningful whole. He often referred to himself as the architecture doctor, redesigning functional and industrial building into art pieces. Abstract This paper deals with the idea that everyone should have freedom in architecture, the same freedom that everyone has in painting and sculpture: to produce any kind of work and afterwards exhibit it. This freedom can only be achieved if we let everyone build his own dwellings and be the architect bricklayer occupant of the building, as this is the only way for the man to regain his critical creative function, without which he cannot exist as a human being. Identity Theft Is An Important Factor Identity theft is the deliberate use of someone else s identity, usually as a method to gain a financial advantage or obtain credit and other benefits in the other person s name, and perhaps to the other person s disadvantage or loss. The person whose identity has been assumed may suffer adverse consequences if they are held responsible for the perpetrator s actions. Identity theftoccurs when someone uses another s personally identifying information, like their name, identifying number, or credit card number, without their permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. When people think of identity theft, more often than not they assume that it only happens to wealthy people. Who would bother stealing the identity of a college student who can barely make ends meet? The harsh reality of the matter is that anyone can be a victim. College students are particularly vulnerable, because they are most likely to be careless or unaware where their credit reports are concerned. The fact that they don t expect to be targeted by identity thieves is an important factor. The more you know, the more you are able to prevent identity theft from happening to you. According to the US Federal Trade Commission, majority of the reports they receive on identity theft were filed by victims aged 20 to 29. Whether it s for the comedy portrayed, or the love story itself, romantic comedies provide aspects of a story that almost anyone can appreciate. Over time, people began to argue that contemporary romantic comedies have depreciated, but this does not hold true. When comparing Judd Apatow s Knocked Up (2007), which is about a stoner low life, played by Seth Rogan, who knocks up co star, Katherine Heigl, who plays Allison, to George Cukor s Adam s Rib (1949), which tells the story of two attorneys bickering over their shared court case, there is a radical difference between the two films in their sheer content to portray a love story while sharing the common romantic comedyplot, but one tells a superior love story. The first notable difference between these films is the kind of humor utilized to articulate the story. According to David Denby, Knocked Up s humor is vulgar and unnecessary, but the humor in this film is not unnecessary. The Knocked Up no doubt contains extremely inappropriate and offensive humor compared to Adam s Rib, but comedy has evolved in response to a changing society. Gentrification And Income Inequality The classism that gentrification brings into communities cannot be understated, simply because it is one of the negative driven byproducts of it, because when individuals are forced to see homes in their respective communities go for 2 to 3 times the market value for what they were previously going for, it sends the message that those within a higher income bracket are able to dictate the set prices in real estates. Furthermore, this financial inequality goes beyond just the housing market. Arthur Dimmesdale Adultery In the eyes of the Puritans, Minister Arthur Dimmesdale could commit no evil, his sin of adultery concealed underneath his clothing and onto his heart with his fleeting sanity. Dimmesdale effectively locked up his sin within himself, successfully fooling almost every soul. It would be too simple and hardly true to conclude Dimmesdale is cowardly, just avoiding death. Dimmesdale continues on his regular life on the outside, cutting off most ties to Hester and Pearl. Absorbing himself God s work, Minister Dimmesdale uses his sin to deliver powerful sermons. Breaking away from the traditional idea that music stems solely from the musician s preconceived and structured arrangement of sounds from specific instruments, Cage s philosophy of music is based on the idea that all sounds can work cooperatively to create music, including those from the environment. Strongly influenced by the principles in Zen Buddhism and Indian music, Cage began to explore new medians for music; He incorporated different elements by relying heavily on chance and randomness. Firstly, a brief explanation of some of the terms I will be using. Capitalism is an economic system where businesses and the means of production are owned by private individuals for profit. In a socialist economy, the means of productionare owned by the community as a whole and individuals get rewarded for their work based on the following principle: from each according to his ability, to each according to his contribution. In communism, items are divided up based on, from each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Finally, I will use the terms proletariat and bourgeoisie.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a difference between a country and the economic theory that it is currently using (reminder, the USSR is not communist nor is it socialist). Fourthly, suppressing an idea from America is the least American action you could do. In America, free speech is a highly valued freedom, and, to quote Benjamin Franklin, Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety (all perceived threats from communism are not actual threats since the threats would be coming from the USSR). Freedom of speech is an essential liberty. Fifthly, all perceived danger from the USSR is nowhere near the amount of actual danger they are in because of us. America was the first to use a nuclear bomb in war, and we have a general intolerance for the USSR. Combined, this is frightening. Finally, Joseph McCarthy and Richard Nixon have accused both innocent and guilty people of communism and/or being a spy for the USSR because of their communism. To recap, Senators McCarthy and Nixon have attacked innocent people for being communist spies since they are possibly communist for a country that isn t even communist and tried to suppress a simple idea, thereby proving that they deserve neither liberty nor safety, all in the name of political ... The former entails that one person s consumption does not affect another s consumption of a good; the latter conveys that one individual cannot prevent another from consuming a good (EconPort.org. N.D. PP. 1). Conversely, a private good is both rival and excludable. An individual owns their good, not everyone can own the same good (rival), and each individual can exclude others from using that good (excludable). Mixed goods are hybrids of public and private: Common Pool Resource goods display the rival elements but are non excludable, while Club Goods contain the non rival element but are excludable (EconPort.org. It enables animals to see in dimmer light than the animal would otherwise be able to see in. The tapetum lucidum is useful to animals, but it also has a use to humans. Human beings use the tapetum lucidum to scan for reflected eye shine, in order to detect and identify the species of animals in the dark and to send trained search dogs and search horses out at night. The simplest type is the tapetum fibrosum, which is found principally in mammals, including herbivores (elephants, horses and goats), cetaceans (whales and dolphins), certain marsupials (Tasmanian Devil), and a rodent (Cuniculus pacas). The tapetum fibrosum consists of extracellular collagen fibrils that are stacked orderly with the majority of the its fibers running horizontally. The number of layered fibrils varies between species and can be up to several hundred thick. The most studied tapetum fibrosum among mammals is found in the cow and is located posteriorly and dorsally. The thickness is variable, increasing its thickness posteriorly. We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we look at their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the approach to architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches and the outlooks of those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings, the Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their approach to constructing architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion played a huge role, there are similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who commissioned these buildings were interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that their building was the most beautiful and perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their divinity as a ruler of a great nation. The Hagia Sophia was built in Constantinoplein A.D. 532 by the emperor Justinian, who hired the renowned architects Anthemius and Isidorus to build it. It was built over an existing building built by Constantine himself. The Hagia Sophia was a very significant building of its time and one that drew attention and respect. The Psychology Behind The Paul O Neal Shooting Essay The Psychology Behind the Paul O Neal Shooting On July 28, an eighteen year old black male named Paul O Neal was driving a stolen vehicle when he was chased down, shot, and killed by police after a heavy car and foot pursuit. The collection of an ABC7 News written report ( Paul O Neal Chicago, 2016) along with police body and vehicle dashboard cameras gives a clear picture of what took place. Indeed, there were a number of psychological concepts at play during the incident, and it is crucial for authorities and the public to understand the extent to which the human mind and body are, at times, inevitably predisposed to these phenomena. The ABC7 News report (2016) begins with a description of the car chase based on the footage supplemented in the article: The video shows an officer getting out of a police SUV patrolling Merrill and nearly being clipped by the jaguar, which careened off the SUV as both officers opened fire on the car. First, Mahathir promoted the birth and expansion of the Malay capitalist class during 1980 s via privatizations, abandoning NEP s spirits that used state owned holding companies as a shareholders of Malay people. Sadly, the beneficiaries from the public asset transfers were not ordinary Malay people, but the politically connected businessman, principally the cronies of Mahathir, Daim and Anwar (Wain, 2009: 102). The unequal access to privatized benefits led to the widening intra ethnic inequality among Malays (Gomez and Jomo, 1997). Second, Mahathir exploited his popular supports, especially from rural voters, as a resource to fulfill his desire of being an authoritarian leader with the legitimacy from the institutionalized political party (Wain: 53). A case in point was the 1983 constitutional crisis, which was caused by Mahathir s attempt to increase the autonomy of the Parliament and reduce Royal s authority to interfere in the legislative process (Khoo, 1995: 202 209).
