Is Third Worlld Immigration a Threat to Americas Way of Life
Is Third Worlld Immigration a Threat to Americas Way of Life
Is Third world immigration a threat to America s way of life? I do not believe it is. I agree with
Isbister. He argues that cultural impacts of immigration are positive, constructive changes, that most
Americans will benefit from living in a more multicultural society, and that tension between the
different ethnic groups can be alleviated. I for one am a Filipino American and proud of it. My parents
came to America from the Philippines to make a better life for themselves. They came here for the so
called American Dream. My parents believed in all the sayings about The Land of Opportunity and
The Land of Milk and Honey. I honestly believe that they have made their ... Show more content on

One reason why people oppose it is because they believe that immigrants may take away jobs from
American workers. Another issue is that they believe immigrants may cause the country to break up
into separate cultural units, thus destroying America s unity. Lastly, people say that immigrants are a
fiscal burden. Isbister tells us that cross sectional studies show that immigration has little if any impact
on the wages and employment opportunities of residents, even residents who are unskilled, low paid,
or racial minorities. This and other cross sectional empirical studies show that immigration quite
possibly may have little or no effect at all on employment and wages of current residents. In regards to
the issue that immigrants may try to break the country up into separate units. I believe this is
preposterous. I think that the only reason why people believe in this is because they are ignorant to
other cultures and feel threatened because of their differences. I think that Isbister said it best with the
this statement, The essence of American life is that it is composed of different groups, different
cultures, races, religions, attitudes, folkways and ideologies, differences that give the country its
distinctiveness. In concern with the issue that immigrants are a fiscal burden there is no proof that this
is true. There have been studies made that claim ...immigrants have not been a burden to U.S.

Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwins Theories of...
Introduction
Evolution is the gradual, continuous change of characteristics throughout a population or a species
over many generations. It is the moderation of characteristics that can alter an entire population over a
long period of time and is the theory that explains the variation in each generation of an organism.
Charles Darwin s theory was natural selection, the survival of the fittest and the struggle for existence,
which had a great impact on selective breeding. Organisms that were well adapted to their
environment had more tendency to survive and reproduce, providing their genetic characteristics for
future generations whilst those less adapted organisms were more likely to be decreased in amount.

The elephants tusk is a modified tooth made of ivory, they are used for digging, debarking trees,
moving object and making contact with one another. The elephant uses it s large ears, that can be up to
180cm wide, to cool their blood and distribute it around their bodies to decrease their body
temperature by fanning themselves. Their big ears also contain many blood vessels that give off body
heat to help the African elephant survive the hot weather.
Lamarckian Evolution
The Lamarckian theory would explain that the Woolly Mammoth changed in ways to adapt to the
change of the environment. Lamarck would have believed that the Mammuthus primigenius would
have sheded it s thick coat of hair to survive as the weather increased in temperature. The Mammoth s
ears would have gotten bigger in size as they would have stretched to fan themselves to keep cool due
to the hot climate. Their trunks would have slightly gotten longer because they stretched to reach
leaves higher up in trees, this would have been because the trees had gotten taller. All these
characteristic modifications were then passed onto future generations.
Darwinian Evolution
The Woolly Mammoth would have had to adapt to the major climate change. Some mammoth s would
have had larger ears than others, had less hair, been shorter than others and have had longer trunks.
They would have had to learn how to defend themselves by traveling in groups to survive. The fittest
mammoth would have survived to reproduce

The Master Services Agreement (MSA), standard of work (SOW), and SLA work together to outline

Section 5
Page Range: 230 281
Dates Read: 10/16 10/20
Original Summary: After getting into a fight to protect another patient from the staff, Nurse Ratched
urges McMurphy to apologize, but he refuses and gets subjected to multiple electroshock treatments
and the others, knowing that the nurse will continue to do this to him, urge him to escape. McMurphy
refuses and tells everyone that he will sneak in prostitutes tonight for the date he scheduled for Billy,
and later he plans to make everything look like an escape attempt so that no one will get in trouble and
so he can run away from the ward. The plan fails and everyone is caught. Nurse Ratched threatens to
tell Billy s mother of what happened and he later ends up killing himself. Nurse Ratched blames
McMurphy for the deaths of the patients and out of anger, McMurphy strangles her. Later, many of the
staff and patients leave, and Nurse Ratched returns but can no longer speak, and McMurphy is in a
vegetative state after he is forced to have a lobotomy for attacking Nurse Ratched. Chief ends up

this quote because it shows the change in Chief, how he went from a scared giant in the beginning of
the story to a strong enough individual that is able to walk forward on his own. McMurphy ends up
losing his voice in the end, sacrificing himself for the freedom of the other patients and Chief doesn t

Professor Thompson
Abstract
This paper explores eight published books about Six Sigma and Total Quality Management. This
paper will compare, contrast, analyze, discover, balance and provide excellent understanding of both
quality methods.
Six Sigma vs TQM
In every organization large or small there needs to be a way where quality is measured. In quality
control management there are two time tested tools that are proven to enhance the quality of products
and services. Managing quality in a business is crucial to its success. Quality products and/or services

Quality service and operations are essential too. Consumers may want to order an item on Amazon vs
driving to the local store to purchase the same item if they can get it for the same price or of lesser
value on Amazon. Amazon are known for its quick and ease buy online and it will ship to consumers
in however fast delivery time consumers want. This gives consumers peace of mind by giving
consumers what they want at a click of a button without getting in the car to make a trip to the store.
Because of this, Amazon has built a reputation of being a one stop shop for pretty much anything.
They provide product reviews and are tied to social media platforms where any engagement of certain
products will lead consumers directly to Amazon s site ready to purchase. This is a great example of
how quality operations can influence a company s reputation making them much more competitive in
their industry.
History of Six Sigma
The history of Six Sigma dates all the way back into the 1920 s when a man named Walter Shewhart
identified that three sigma from the average or mean is the point in a process may need correction.
Many terms or standards came about but the term Six Sigma was coined by a Motorola engineer
named Bill Smith. In the 1980s Motorola engineers wanted to measure defects per million
opportunities instead of the traditional thousands of opportunities. Motorola then developed the Six

Symbolism In Alice In Wonderland
Walt Disney s first attempted to produce Alice in Wonderland in the 1930 s. Like Alice, he had a
dream. Both dreams knew no bounds and discovered that the only thing certain is uncertainty. Alice in
Wonderland was the 13th animation that Disney ever produced. Thirteen is thought of as an unlucky
number, a symbol of rebellion and lawlessness which suits the context of this novel perfectly,
especially considering its initial unpopularity. Why we dream is one of the biggest unanswered
questions of modern science. What we do know is that it is based on the subconscious. Alice plunges
into a world of mystery and magic where the extraordinary is ordinary and a new adventure waits
around every corner. The novella starts with a characteristically Dream Vision beginning, the main
protagonist falls asleep in the midst of an emotionally impasse moment. In this instance, Alice is
reflecting on the never ending nature of her sister s monotonous reading tone. She escapes to another
realm, which offers her an exciting life that moves at an exponential rate. The Door knob s confession
that, Nothing s impossible! gives the reader the first insight into the wonderful adventure that lies
ahead. The Native American s had no defined religion; each tribe had their own views on spirituality
but they all valued dreams. These indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Function Of Student Nurse
Monday, October 19th: Today I was at Moses Cone renal floor in the role of student nurse. I had two
patients. One patient was a patient I have had before who went to hemodialysis. My other patient I had
not had before, and she was admitted because her salivary glands were swollen and infected. My past
patient went to hemodialysis at 7:45 right after I got report and introduced myself to her as my student
nurse. I was able to go see her in hemodialysis. The nurse who was working with her explained to me
who hemodialysis works. He had a little bit of a cultural/language barrier and it was difficult to
understand exactly what he was explaining. I was able to understand a little bit about how to monitor
your patient and make adjustments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was on a dysphagia 1 diet and was receiving her pills crushed in applesauce. She wasn t tolerating
it well because it was so bitter. Since I observed her eating her breakfast without any problems, and
since the order to crush her pills was a nursing order, we tried her on swallowing pills with water. She
did really well with this, so I spoke with her nurse about changing her order. This nursing intervention
we implemented deals specifically with learning outcome #2 which talks about analyzing nursing
interventions as they relate to health promotion in the older adult. The intervention we implemented
promoted our patient s comfort and also led to decreased gagging and greater adherence to taking
medications. Another less critical intervention I implemented were daily cares such as bathing,
ambulating, and changing her gown. These were also interventions for comfort and that contributed to
the patient feeling better about herself which will lead to healing. My personal goals for this week at
Moses Cone were: I will help another student with one of their tasks by the end of the day. I will make
a discharge plan or discuss with my nurse what discharge planning looks like before leaving. I will
introduce myself to my patients with my nurse. My patient goals are: My patients will be able to
explain what they need to do upon discharge to maintain health. My patients will state a non medicinal
therapy that can be used in their treatment before the end of the day. My

Carl Jung Collective Unconscious Analysis
Carl Jung s theory of the collective unconscious goes to explain how certain symbols, pictures, and
memories from ancestors are instilled in the people of today. Examples of the collective unconscious
would be developed within the four main archetypes. These archetypes are the persona, the anima/
animus, the shadow, and the self. The persona is also called the mask. This archetype displays how the
world sees a person. One can choose how they carry themselves on the outside yet think completely
different on the inside. This is what will be judged by the world, is your persona or your mask. The
anima/ animus is the thought that each sex has tendencies of the other. Therefore, a woman has some
masculine aspects and a man has certain feminine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, I just recently reached out to the athletic trainer at Florida State University, where I am hoping
to attend, to see if there would be any possibility for me to observe with her as a student athletic
trainer as well. Both professional athletic trainers have been impressed with my compassion and
determination for this field of work at my young age and continue to help me with more opportunities
to learn about this career path before I enter college. My persona has not only been effective for the
opportunities I have received, but it has also brought along lifelong friends. I am always caring for my
friends and their needs before my own. When I meet new people, I want them to know instantly that I
care for them. Simply showing people that I care for them and being compassionate is what has given
me the friends I have today. One s persona, their act in society, is important because it is the key point
of what opportunities one will receive and the friends one will have. Next, the shadow is known as the
dark side of a person. It is one s hidden secrets, fears, and insecurities. One fear that consumed me for
most of my life was the fear of disappointing others. I used to do everything in my power to make sure
others were content because I could not live with the fact that I could possibly be one reason someone
was disappointed. I was bullied for many years in school when I was younger. I felt the reason why

Different Times, Different Ideals
Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There
was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function,
and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was
commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time
period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written
during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian
Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting
from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered
inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains
with this tale.
This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different
sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure
and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the
companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two
main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the
Victorian Era.

Why People Don t Heal And How They Can
Lauren Carter

Senior Studies: Book Review 1
February 8, 2017
Why People Don t Heal and How They Can is a book I read with the career focused intention of
learning another, experienced stance on how to better treat others spiritually, mentally, and physically
through different methods of holistic healing. However, shortly after I had begun reading, it had
become apparent to me that the author, Dr. Caroline Myss, would be bringing more to the table than
the average, new age, mind heals body heals spirit broken record that seems to be repeatedly recycled
under multiple authors. Through this book, Myss not only explained how the mental, emotional,
physical, and spiritual bodies were all connected; she elaborated on how societal ... Show more

Not only did Myss flawlessly combine holistic health with metaphysics and astrology, she presented
the information in a way where everyone, even those not interested in the new age lifestyle would
benefit from her advice and experience. In the first, most impactful chapter, Woundology and the
Healing Fire, Myss immediately dives into the all too common unrecognized root cause of why we
don t heal effectively: ourselves. She elaborates on the societal leverage that mental, emotional, and
physical wounds give us, from the intimacy of speaking woundology (the language of instant trust and
understanding through each other s shared painful experiences), to the pros that subconsciously
motivate being openly wounded, such as attention one might not otherwise receive, unquestionable
excuses, support groups becoming family etc. On page 15, Myss explains, In addition to all the
healing support that [support groups] provide, however, another dynamic has made me begin to
question their healing value. Those for whom the support group has become an important part of their
social life naturally wish to continue indefinitely as members. But because the underlying criterion for
remaining members is continuing need for support, one must accept the group message Remain
unhealed. (Myss, 1997, pg.15)

Summary Of Kate Grenville s The Secret River
Kate Grenville s The Secret River uses characters to envision the conflicting beliefs and attitudes of
the settlement of Australia and hence, the Aboriginal Australians. Whilst not all characters dictate their
stance on the Aboriginal people, some characters make it very clear on their standpoint of the
treatment of these people. The characters of Thomas Blackwood, Smasher Sullivan and Will
Thornevill display completely ideosynatric moral behaviours, to which the other characters moral
stance lies within their bounds. Smasher is a barbaric and immoral individual of which, shows
prejudice and no respect towards the Aboriginal people. Contrasting Smasher, Blackwood s character,
radiates humanity and respect to the original owners of their new home to which he try to convince
Will of to which Will turns away for greed. The opposing characterisation of these individuals allows
the readers to interpret the matter in question faced in the text from both standpoints.
Kate Grenville s characterisation of Smasher, is one of great prejudice to the Aboriginal people.
Smasher, a cold hearted man with profound rivalry for the Aboriginals, states to have no problem
teaching a lesson to any black arse who sets foot on [his] land . He kills, kidnaps and sexually abuses
Aboriginal women and children. Readers infer Smasher s horrid nature is due to oblivion and a lack of
understanding of the Aboriginal people. Smasher believes the natives to be nothing but savages, a
common opinion shared amongst the rest of the white settlement. This fervour of superiority was
shared by a vast majority of the white settlement. This is demonstrated when Smasher begins to
demand that the Aboriginals should be rid of after the death his friend, even though to double
standards Smasher and his friend were responsible for these actions that took place: We ll poison em,
with the green stuff . Moreover, The double standards that were set in place was due to this supposed
white dominance, due to the belief that the blacks life had little to no meaning at all compared to a
white s: They ain t worth nothin . Readers were lead to believe by this that the settlers had no
tolerance or patience for the aboriginals in turn refusing to learn to respect

Analysis Of Malcolm X English Language
In this article he laments the fact that his communicative knowledge was low and that he never
received a response from any of the letters he wrote to those outside of prison. This was where he
acknowledges his frustration about his language ability. He compared his ability to speak the English
language prior to his imprisonment with his prison attempts to communicate to different people and he
saw that the latter was vastly inferior to the former. He says, I became increasingly frustrated at not
being able to express what I wanted to convey in the letters I wrote... In the street I had been the most
articulate hustler out there I commanded attention... (pg.68). This realization provided the spark he
needed to start improving his language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He saw that he could not communicate effectively with his new intended audience and sought to see
where he could improve. By comparing his ability to his pre prison audience and how he
communicated with them, he found a strategy that would be effective (pg. 68). This was another thing
he did well. He was open minded enough to realize that his language use to his restricted audience
would not work with the people he was not trying to communicate. He was smart enough to realize
that he, not his audience, had to make the necessary changes if he was going to express his ideas in a
manner that was easy for them to understand. This ability is illustrated by his words, ...neither would I
replied to anyone writing me something as wild as the white man is the devil (pg. 67). There really is
not much weakness to this article as it does not leave out any vital details concerning his realization
that he needed to be better educated. The article is all about Malcolm X turning a weakness into a
strength which he later used for his future success. The points Malcolm X makes about learning one s
language are excellent. If one wants to communicate with others in an articulate and clear manner then
knowing one s native language is imperative. Especially if one wants or is expecting a well reasoned
response. He writes, It was because of my letters... starting to acquire some sort of homemade
education. (pg.68). In that essence it is easy to agree with Malcolm

Laertes And Ophelia Character Analysis
The passing of Laertes and Ophelia s mother influences their self esteem and dependency in outside
relationships because it is in these close levels of intimacy that initial unresolved conflicts within the
family are reenacted and initiated subconsciously (Tyson 18). However, both exhibit and perform the
reenactment of their deepest, hidden feelings about their mother s absence in two different and distinct
manners. Furthermore, it is directly verified that when experimented, ...research links parental death to
increased emotional reactions and grief process, which in turn links to commitment levels in romantic
relationships ; therefore, creating a wide variety of emotion backlash on Laertes and Ophelia to find
the one (Anderson 1). When analyzing Laertes liaisons, there are not many secure connections evident
in the play as he is depicted almost as a lone wolf like, strong willed, and predominantly independent
character. Although, Ophelia exposes his lifestyle in Act I, Scene III, by showing the audience a
different side of Laertes after witnessing his so called protective advice to Ophelia:
But, good my brother,
Do not, as some ungracious pastors do,
Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven
Whiles, like a puffed and reckless libertine,
Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads
And recks not his own rede. (50 55)
Ophelia s words prove that there more exists within Laertes under the surface than a concerned
brother for his sister s heart and virtue. In

Features Of Cubism And How It Represented Through The...
Between the nineteenth and twentieth century, with the development of new technology diverse new
art style was defined by artists in various genres such as architect, painter and poet. Especially, in the
beginning of the twentieth century in Europe, an avangarde art movement had started and spread
rapidly across the world. The movement was called Cubism, which was described as the most
innovative and influential visual art style at that time, because the idea of Cubism was aside from a
fixed idea of realism after the Renaissance and it has opened a new era of art. Accordingly, nowadays,
some people said that the art of the twentieth century would be totally different without effect of
Cubism. This essay will explain the feature of cubism and how it represented through the artwork of
cubist.
First of all, one of the characteristics of Cubism is that the cubist made a painting from diverse view
points. Instead of looking at one side of the object, changed viewpoint differently. Accordingly, the
cubist artworks are expressed the plurality of view than the one point perspective to the screen
perspective. Andrew Glassner also wrote that Cubist painters explored the process of creating images
from multiple, simultaneous points of view and Erika Gonzaiez claim that Cubism involved looking at
the same object from a variety of different perspectives and showing all these perspectives at the exact
same time . At the same time, the cubist painters ignored the idea that painting

The Battle Of The Confederate Army
William Thomas was 36 and the owner of a plantation in Virginia near Norfolk. He had a wife, two
daughters, and a son who he intended to pass the plantation on to just as he father had to him.
Following the events of Fort Sumter, he elected to join the Confederate army to defend against what
he saw as the Union s invasion.
April 20, 1861 Plantation near Norfolk, Virginia The Yanks to the north have the nerve declare war,
and a blockade no less, against us over us taking what is rightfully ours! Fort Sumter is part of South
Carolina and therefore the property of the Confederacy. Those Union soldiers had no right to refuse
handing it over. They claim it was an act of aggression, I say we were just doing what was necessary
to take what was rightfully ours. I won t stand by while Yanks invade our land and our homes and try
to tell us how we should live our lives. Tomorrow, I will leave for Richmond to join the Confederate
Army. I will leave the plantation in my son s charge. I have taught him how to manage it for when he
inherits it himself. With luck, he will be able to manage it at his own discretion without a bunch of
bureaucrats forcing their way into his business.
April 25, 1861 Richmond, Virginia I have arrived in Richmond and have enlisted. They eagerly
accepted me into the ranks as the need for soldiers is high. There has been talk that some may be
conscripted to fill the need.

Advantages Of F. Reemium
F reemium, a pricing strategy using which a product or service is provided to the users free of charge

by Jarid Lukin of Alacrain 2006.
Here, the users are provided with a totally free version of the entry level model of the software or a
game which is then used to create a large user base in a less time span because free users will refer to
other free users and they would eventually turn out to be paying users as this large free base would
now be monetized by upselling them on premium software services or features. The term Free is a

They force the players to wait for long hours causing frustration. So, just to move on to the next level
or just to get done with the game, people eventually end up paying thousands of dollars and if you
have gotten addicted to the game then there is no backing out. You eventually end up paying for even
the tiniest modification you think you require in the game. Thus, it can be concluded that freemium
works out great for the gaming companies. But from the consumer s point of view, it s downright
cruel.
In most freemium models, the product can be used for free only for a certain number of times or with
a limited capacity. The good part is that you can try the game before you buy it so that you won t make
purchases you will later regret, as the demo version is available.
But there are darker sides to freemium. A concept namely Pay2Win has come up recently, which
involves gamers paying to win games. This raises the question as to why people actually play games.
Is it to have fun? Or is it some completionist need to finish every game we come

relationship between the parent and their child. The message of the poem Ode on the Whole Duty of
Parents is that being wise with their children has a huge impact on their relationship between them.
Whereas the message in the poem How to Change a Frog into a prince is that patience for their
children is really important for the relation between them. The ways of interaction in both the poems
are different. In Cornford s poem, the speaker tells the parent that the child should be given his or her
own space and freedom, yet be there for their child when they are needed them. Whereas Denise s
poem talks about how the parents should teach them everything possible and be near them all the time
so that the baby will become a perfect prince. This poem does not talk anything about letting the child
go free and learn everything on their own. The differences in the meanings of both the poems reflects

Famous Greek Myths
THE TALE OF FELIX THE DARING
____________________
A commonly told greek myth about a man whose life was filled with fabled wonders.
In the time of a heroic era when powerful Greek gods ruled the world, there lived a young man whose
life was a matter of both ridicule and raillery of the neighborhood the village of Periera. On the day he
was born, his parents were so poor that they had no other choice but to auction him away into the
dwelling homes of the foundlings; to further sustain their own lives. Before leaving the child
completely behind, they gave him a special name Felix to ensure his prosperous future. However, that
seemed to play a trick on the poor infant as, on the contrary, bad luck followed him everywhere. When

seeds, bound to bring good luck and fortune to anyone who possesses it.
But Fortunata told me about three challenges... Felix wondered.
Then, be aware on your way home, She advised before disappearing into the sunlight.
Felix praised for Saga and left back for Periera dreaming of the new life ahead.
On the way back home, to the village of Periera, he seemed to have grown wings elated by the seen
perspectives of happiness spreading around by villager to a villager. Then, just a few miles away from
Periera, Felix noticed a shabby, decrepit household. In the middle of the ruined house, there sat an old
man wearing scruffy clothes and holding a piece of stale bread.
Felix approached the man and asked, Can I help you?
I appreciate your kindness, child, but there s no cure for my misery, the man glanced at him
sorrowfully.
Felix contemplated for a while. Then, he put his talisman into the man s hand. You have no home or

The Definition Of Public Relations Essay
Deconstructing the PRINZ definition of Public Relations
Public Relations in New Zealand is widely useful, practised and builds up an organisation s
relationships with its publics. PR in short, is essentially about communication and relationship
building. PRINZ [Public Relations Institute of New Zealand] (2009) defines PR as The deliberate,
planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organisation
and its publics. This essay will deconstruct and critically examine this definition of public relations in
relation to PR theories. These theories being Systems Theory, Relationship Management and
Excellence Theory will be examined and applied to campaign examples. This will give a
comprehensive understanding of the theory s meanings as well as relationships with aspects of the
PRINZ definition of PR. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must first be addressed.
Gordon (2011) describes publics as potential or actual audiences connected to various messages.
(Rawlins, 2006) furthers this statement by stating that publics ...can be employees, shareholders,
political leaders, consumers, etc. and ...are often segmented even further by demographics,
geographics, or psychographics. (p.133). Grunig and Repper (1992) expand on this saying publics are
self formed and identify organisations for attention, essentially meaning publics are groups of people
linked by a common interest or problem. PR practitioners according to (Gordon,

Determining the Accuracy of a Non-Contact Infrared...
Among many people, fever is commonplace while sick. This is especially true of pediatric patients
who develop fevers at the slightest indication of infection. 20% of emergency room visits for children
are due to an elevated temperature. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p. 103) A rectal temperature above 100.4°F is
considered to be fever. The preferred method of obtaining an accurate temperature reading is rectally,
as this gives the most precise core temperature reading. In some patients however, rectal thermometry
is contraindicated and an alternative method of measuring their temperature is needed. Not many
alternatives currently exist to give as accurate of a core temperature reading as the rectal thermometer.

Before beginning, general information was collected from the child s parent or guardian about any
fever reducing medication given, the patient s age, and what was bothering the child.
The study followed important aspects of the nursing process. First, the patients were assessed to
determine how sick they were and whether or not they qualified to participate in the study. The tools
for the research, in this case both thermometers, were acquired and implemented. The children s
temperature was then evaluated using both thermometers.
The process in which the data was obtained for the research study was as follows: The rectal
thermometer was inserted and held in place for 15 seconds and was then read. The same trained
person would then use the infrared thermometer in the middle of the forehead immediately after the
rectal temperature was recorded. The infrared thermometer had to be calibrated to the temperature of
the room before using. The people trained to use both thermometers correctly for this study were two
registered nurses, two paramedics and two pediatric emergency physicians. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p.
102) All of the data collected was gathered by one of these six people.
The results of this research study showed a discrepancy that was too large between the rectal
thermometer and the non contact infrared thermometer. There was a difference of as many as 4°F.

The Influence Of Western Civilization
The Influence of western Civilization
Western Civilization has had a tremendous influence on many different cultures worldwide. From the
Hispanic cultures in South and Central America, to the Caribbean islands, and also to the various
exotic African countries, and even to the distinguished cultures that reside in the continent of Asia. In
many ways than one, these cultures have been molded to be as westernized as they could possibly be
without losing their traditional customs indefinitely. They re religion, fashion sense, and family
structures have all been altered in some form so that it could resemble the western nation s patriarch.
Countries in North America and Europe have for centuries traveled to different continents in the world
and colonized many nations, as a result of that, many of the customs and traditions of those people
have been shaped to be a bit more westernized.
One prime element in different cultures that was influenced by Western countries is religion. Religion
is defined as the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power that could be one s own
personal God, Gods, or even Goddesses. The most popular and followed religion in the world is
Christianity. Christianity is also widely known and accepted as a European/ Westernized religion
though the origin of Christianity began in what is today the Middle East, and Asia. In fact, Jesus of

  • 3. Is Third Worlld Immigration a Threat to Americas Way of Life Is Third Worlld Immigration a Threat to Americas Way of Life Is Third world immigration a threat to America s way of life? I do not believe it is. I agree with Isbister. He argues that cultural impacts of immigration are positive, constructive changes, that most Americans will benefit from living in a more multicultural society, and that tension between the different ethnic groups can be alleviated. I for one am a Filipino American and proud of it. My parents came to America from the Philippines to make a better life for themselves. They came here for the so called American Dream. My parents believed in all the sayings about The Land of Opportunity and The Land of Milk and Honey. I honestly believe that they have made their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason why people oppose it is because they believe that immigrants may take away jobs from American workers. Another issue is that they believe immigrants may cause the country to break up into separate cultural units, thus destroying America s unity. Lastly, people say that immigrants are a fiscal burden. Isbister tells us that cross sectional studies show that immigration has little if any impact on the wages and employment opportunities of residents, even residents who are unskilled, low paid, or racial minorities. This and other cross sectional empirical studies show that immigration quite possibly may have little or no effect at all on employment and wages of current residents. In regards to the issue that immigrants may try to break the country up into separate units. I believe this is preposterous. I think that the only reason why people believe in this is because they are ignorant to other cultures and feel threatened because of their differences. I think that Isbister said it best with the this statement, The essence of American life is that it is composed of different groups, different cultures, races, religions, attitudes, folkways and ideologies, differences that give the country its distinctiveness. In concern with the issue that immigrants are a fiscal burden there is no proof that this is true. There have been studies made that claim ...immigrants have not been a burden to U.S. governments that government expenditures on the immigrants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jean Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwins Theories of... Introduction Evolution is the gradual, continuous change of characteristics throughout a population or a species over many generations. It is the moderation of characteristics that can alter an entire population over a long period of time and is the theory that explains the variation in each generation of an organism. Charles Darwin s theory was natural selection, the survival of the fittest and the struggle for existence, which had a great impact on selective breeding. Organisms that were well adapted to their environment had more tendency to survive and reproduce, providing their genetic characteristics for future generations whilst those less adapted organisms were more likely to be decreased in amount. The elephants tusk is a modified tooth made of ivory, they are used for digging, debarking trees, moving object and making contact with one another. The elephant uses it s large ears, that can be up to 180cm wide, to cool their blood and distribute it around their bodies to decrease their body temperature by fanning themselves. Their big ears also contain many blood vessels that give off body heat to help the African elephant survive the hot weather. Lamarckian Evolution The Lamarckian theory would explain that the Woolly Mammoth changed in ways to adapt to the change of the environment. Lamarck would have believed that the Mammuthus primigenius would have sheded it s thick coat of hair to survive as the weather increased in temperature. The Mammoth s ears would have gotten bigger in size as they would have stretched to fan themselves to keep cool due to the hot climate. Their trunks would have slightly gotten longer because they stretched to reach leaves higher up in trees, this would have been because the trees had gotten taller. All these characteristic modifications were then passed onto future generations. Darwinian Evolution The Woolly Mammoth would have had to adapt to the major climate change. Some mammoth s would have had larger ears than others, had less hair, been shorter than others and have had longer trunks. They would have had to learn how to defend themselves by traveling in groups to survive. The fittest mammoth would have survived to reproduce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is still damaged, but is now able to face the world head on as he has learned from McMurphy. I chose this quote because it shows the change in Chief, how he went from a scared giant in the beginning of the story to a strong enough individual that is able to walk forward on his own. Quality service and operations are essential too. Consumers may want to order an item on Amazon vs driving to the local store to purchase the same item if they can get it for the same price or of lesser value on Amazon. Amazon are known for its quick and ease buy online and it will ship to consumers in however fast delivery time consumers want. This gives consumers peace of mind by giving consumers what they want at a click of a button without getting in the car to make a trip to the store. Because of this, Amazon has built a reputation of being a one stop shop for pretty much anything. They provide product reviews and are tied to social media platforms where any engagement of certain products will lead consumers directly to Amazon s site ready to purchase. This is a great example of how quality operations can influence a company s reputation making them much more competitive in their industry. History of Six Sigma The history of Six Sigma dates all the way back into the 1920 s when a man named Walter Shewhart identified that three sigma from the average or mean is the point in a process may need correction. • 8. Symbolism In Alice In Wonderland Walt Disney s first attempted to produce Alice in Wonderland in the 1930 s. Like Alice, he had a dream. Both dreams knew no bounds and discovered that the only thing certain is uncertainty. Alice in Wonderland was the 13th animation that Disney ever produced. Thirteen is thought of as an unlucky number, a symbol of rebellion and lawlessness which suits the context of this novel perfectly, especially considering its initial unpopularity. Why we dream is one of the biggest unanswered questions of modern science. What we do know is that it is based on the subconscious. Alice plunges into a world of mystery and magic where the extraordinary is ordinary and a new adventure waits around every corner. The novella starts with a characteristically Dream Vision beginning, the main protagonist falls asleep in the midst of an emotionally impasse moment. In this instance, Alice is reflecting on the never ending nature of her sister s monotonous reading tone. She escapes to another realm, which offers her an exciting life that moves at an exponential rate. One patient was a patient I have had before who went to hemodialysis. My other patient I had not had before, and she was admitted because her salivary glands were swollen and infected. My past patient went to hemodialysis at 7:45 right after I got report and introduced myself to her as my student nurse. I was able to go see her in hemodialysis. The nurse who was working with her explained to me who hemodialysis works. He had a little bit of a cultural/language barrier and it was difficult to understand exactly what he was explaining. She was on a dysphagia 1 diet and was receiving her pills crushed in applesauce. She wasn t tolerating it well because it was so bitter. Since I observed her eating her breakfast without any problems, and since the order to crush her pills was a nursing order, we tried her on swallowing pills with water. She did really well with this, so I spoke with her nurse about changing her order. This nursing intervention we implemented deals specifically with learning outcome #2 which talks about analyzing nursing interventions as they relate to health promotion in the older adult. The intervention we implemented promoted our patient s comfort and also led to decreased gagging and greater adherence to taking medications. Another less critical intervention I implemented were daily cares such as bathing, ambulating, and changing her gown. These were also interventions for comfort and that contributed to the patient feeling better about herself which will lead to healing. My personal goals for this week at Moses Cone were: I will help another student with one of their tasks by the end of the day. I will make a discharge plan or discuss with my nurse what discharge planning looks like before leaving. I will introduce myself to my patients with my nurse. Carl Jung Collective Unconscious Analysis Carl Jung s theory of the collective unconscious goes to explain how certain symbols, pictures, and memories from ancestors are instilled in the people of today. Examples of the collective unconscious would be developed within the four main archetypes. These archetypes are the persona, the anima/ animus, the shadow, and the self. The persona is also called the mask. This archetype displays how the world sees a person. One can choose how they carry themselves on the outside yet think completely different on the inside. This is what will be judged by the world, is your persona or your mask. The anima/ animus is the thought that each sex has tendencies of the other. My persona has not only been effective for the opportunities I have received, but it has also brought along lifelong friends. I am always caring for my friends and their needs before my own. When I meet new people, I want them to know instantly that I care for them. Simply showing people that I care for them and being compassionate is what has given me the friends I have today. • 12. Different Times, Different Ideals Different Times, Different Ideals The world is a very different place than it was 1,000 years ago. There was a time in our history that women were not valued for anything other than their sexual function, and they were expected to quietly tumble into the social image men created for them. Racism also was commonplace and widely accepted, and violence was a casual occurrence of life then. This time period is known as the Victorian Era. A very widely known children s book today was actually written during this time period by J.M. Barrie Peter Pan. This novel created for children contains the Victorian Era s socially accepted ideals relating to sexism, racism, and violence and the physical acts resulting from the prevalence of these ideas at that time, which are most certainly outdated and considered inappropriate for children in today s society despite the obviously uninformed popularity that remains with this tale. This book displays its sexism quite openly. There is an ongoing battle of two exceedingly different sides of womanhood throughout the story. It encourages the engagement between a mother like figure and a harlot. Throughout the novel, all the female characters must either be parental or crave the companionship of a male character, which often results in jealousy. Wendy and Tinker, being the two main female characters of the story, represent these two different types of women acceptable in the Victorian Era. She elaborates on the societal leverage that mental, emotional, and physical wounds give us, from the intimacy of speaking woundology (the language of instant trust and understanding through each other s shared painful experiences), to the pros that subconsciously motivate being openly wounded, such as attention one might not otherwise receive, unquestionable excuses, support groups becoming family etc. On page 15, Myss explains, In addition to all the healing support that [support groups] provide, however, another dynamic has made me begin to question their healing value. Those for whom the support group has become an important part of their social life naturally wish to continue indefinitely as members. But because the underlying criterion for remaining members is continuing need for support, one must accept the group message Remain unhealed. (Myss, 1997, pg.15) At a first glance, her blunt tone ... Summary Of Kate Grenville s The Secret River Kate Grenville s The Secret River uses characters to envision the conflicting beliefs and attitudes of the settlement of Australia and hence, the Aboriginal Australians. Whilst not all characters dictate their stance on the Aboriginal people, some characters make it very clear on their standpoint of the treatment of these people. The characters of Thomas Blackwood, Smasher Sullivan and Will Thornevill display completely ideosynatric moral behaviours, to which the other characters moral stance lies within their bounds. Smasher is a barbaric and immoral individual of which, shows prejudice and no respect towards the Aboriginal people. Contrasting Smasher, Blackwood s character, radiates humanity and respect to the original owners of their new home to which he try to convince Will of to which Will turns away for greed. The opposing characterisation of these individuals allows the readers to interpret the matter in question faced in the text from both standpoints. Kate Grenville s characterisation of Smasher, is one of great prejudice to the Aboriginal people. Smasher, a cold hearted man with profound rivalry for the Aboriginals, states to have no problem teaching a lesson to any black arse who sets foot on [his] land . He kills, kidnaps and sexually abuses Aboriginal women and children. Readers infer Smasher s horrid nature is due to oblivion and a lack of understanding of the Aboriginal people. Smasher believes the natives to be nothing but savages, a common opinion shared amongst the rest of the white settlement. This fervour of superiority was shared by a vast majority of the white settlement. This is demonstrated when Smasher begins to demand that the Aboriginals should be rid of after the death his friend, even though to double standards Smasher and his friend were responsible for these actions that took place: We ll poison em, with the green stuff . Moreover, The double standards that were set in place was due to this supposed white dominance, due to the belief that the blacks life had little to no meaning at all compared to a white s: They ain t worth nothin . To understand PR theories however, the term publics must first be addressed. Gordon (2011) describes publics as potential or actual audiences connected to various messages. (Rawlins, 2006) furthers this statement by stating that publics ...can be employees, shareholders, political leaders, consumers, etc. and ...are often segmented even further by demographics, geographics, or psychographics. (p.133). • 32. Determining the Accuracy of a Non-Contact Infrared... Among many people, fever is commonplace while sick. This is especially true of pediatric patients who develop fevers at the slightest indication of infection. 20% of emergency room visits for children are due to an elevated temperature. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p. 103) A rectal temperature above 100.4°F is considered to be fever. The preferred method of obtaining an accurate temperature reading is rectally, as this gives the most precise core temperature reading. In some patients however, rectal thermometry is contraindicated and an alternative method of measuring their temperature is needed. Not many alternatives currently exist to give as accurate of a core temperature reading as the rectal thermometer. The research article I chose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before beginning, general information was collected from the child s parent or guardian about any fever reducing medication given, the patient s age, and what was bothering the child. The study followed important aspects of the nursing process. First, the patients were assessed to determine how sick they were and whether or not they qualified to participate in the study. The tools for the research, in this case both thermometers, were acquired and implemented. The children s temperature was then evaluated using both thermometers. The process in which the data was obtained for the research study was as follows: The rectal thermometer was inserted and held in place for 15 seconds and was then read. The same trained person would then use the infrared thermometer in the middle of the forehead immediately after the rectal temperature was recorded. The infrared thermometer had to be calibrated to the temperature of the room before using. The people trained to use both thermometers correctly for this study were two registered nurses, two paramedics and two pediatric emergency physicians. (Fortuna et al., 2010 p. 102) All of the data collected was gathered by one of these six people. The results of this research study showed a discrepancy that was too large between the rectal thermometer and the non contact infrared thermometer. There was a difference of as many as 4°F.
