The Soul Of A Deceased Child By Toni Morrison
In 1873, just after the Civil War ended, a house numbered 124 on the edge of Cincinnati, Ohio is
haunted by the soul of a deceased child. Sethe, an ex slave, and her two daughters, Denver and
Beloved, occupy the home. The oldest daughter Beloved, however, happens to be the ghost haunting
her mother and sister. The bond between a mother and her children is evident throughout Toni
Morrison s 1987 novel, Beloved; seen in Sethe s lack of a relationship with her mother, and therefore,
her desire to properly nurture her own children. Unfortunately, slavery does not allow for the existence
of motherhood. The motherly impulse to protect one s children is innate, but in the dehumanizing
realm of slavery, Sethe s maternal instincts are limited and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sethe s only other memory of her mother is when Sethe recognizes her mother s branding on her
hanging body. This horrifying image sticks with Sethe her entire life, and causes her psychological
agony. Sethe does not want her children to suffer the pain she has. She wants them to have a
relationship with their mother, and especially not see her die. Sethe also remembers that as a baby she
was deprived of milk from her mother to survive. Sethe was nursed by another woman, and recalls
that The little whitebabies got it first and I got what was left nursed her. Or none. There was no
nursing milk to call my own. I know what it is to be without the milk that belongs to you; to have to
fight and holler for it, and to have so little left (Morrison 236). Sethe was malnourished and not fed by
her own mother, which further stresses the separation between them. Sethe s few childhood memories
of her mother make it extremely important to her to nurse her children. When Sethe is cruelly held
down and robbed of this ability, she is more infuriated than the time she is brutally whipped (Morrison
19). When telling a fellow slave about the beating she endured before escaping, she reiterates, they
took my milk! This emphasizes how imperative it was to Sethe to save her milk for her child. Sethe s
lack of motherly nurturing and loss of her mother cause her to want a stronger bond with her own
children and a better life for them. The idea that slavery discourages

Gothic Elements In Gothic Literature
Gothic literature can be defined as writing that employs dark and picturesque scenery, startling and
melodramatic narrative devices, and an overall atmosphere of exoticism, mystery, and dread.
The gothic world is dark and can contain evil, dark and mysteries. The short stories A Rose for Emily
written by William Faulkner, The Black Cat written by Edgar Allen Poe, Prey written by Richard
Matheson, The Feather Pillow , written by Horacio Quiroga and the novel The Night Circus written by
Erin Morgenstern all represent several gothic elements. Isolation or entrapment is a gothic element
that is found in The Night Circus , A Rose for Emily and The Feather Pillow . Violence or revenge is a
gothic element that is well represented by the short stories The Black Cat , Prey and the novel The
Night Circus . The narrators use these types of gothic elements to prove that if you stay away from
people around you or force others to isolate themselves from the world and act evil towards others, it
will lead to your own catastrophe.
In the short story A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, Miss Emily stays locked in her house
guarding a morbid secret. That happened after her dad dies and her boyfriend skips town. One
example of isolation foreshadowing Emily s own desolation. The narrator expresses her loneliness as
After her father s death she went out very little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her

Complementary And Alternative Medicine Systems
Nontraditional Healthcare According to WebMd, Nontraditional Healthcare is referred to as CAM
(Webmd).CAM is an abbreviation for complementary and alternative medicine, and refers to medical
and healthcare ideas that are not considered a conventional medical treatment. Although a lot of the
therapies and techniques have been around for centuries, it is not considered conventional because
there is not enough satisfactory evidence of success and safety. A recent study showed that nearly 40
percent of Americans have used CAM treatment. The people that use these types of treatment often
seek help for pain and nausea. There are several types of complementary and alternative medicine
including alternative medicine systems, biologically based therapies, mind body therapies, and
manipulative and manipulative and body based therapy.
Alternative medicine systems are not just massages, but are centered on philosophy (Mayo Clinic).
Homeopathy is one type of these systems, and is small doses of animal, vegetable, or mineral
substances to stimulate the body s self healing responses. According to Mayo Clinic, Acupuncture is a
Chinese form of medicine that is done by inserting a long, thin needle at specific longitudinal point on
your body. Each point corresponds to a specific condition. The goal of this medicine along with most
in this category is to restore a balance of energy and health. Some of the thing acupuncture may relive

A) What is the standard error of the mean in this example?
80/square root of 40 = 12.65
B) What is the likelihood the sample mean is greater than 320 minutes?
(320 330)/80/(sr of 40) = 10/12.65 = .79. .79 on the curve is .2852. Using the equation .5000 .2852
gives the probability of .2148 or approximately 21% likelihood that it will be greater than 320
minutes.
4
C) What is the likelihood the sample mean is between 320 and 350 minutes?
We must first find what the sample would be for the curve if it is greater than 350 minutes. We would
find this by (350 330)/80(sr of 40) = 20/12.65 = 1.58. 1.58 on the curve is .4429. We then use the
equation .4429 .2852 (.2852 found in part B) to find likelihood of it falling between 320 and 350
minutes being .1577 or approximately 16%
D) What is the likelihood the sample mean is greater than 350 minutes?
Using what we found in part C we can do .5000 .4429 = .0571 or approximately 6% likelihood that it
will be greater than 350 minutes.

Capital Metro Case Study
. The substantial population growth and urban sprawl of the Central Texas area have amplified the
need for reliable transportation. Although nearly everyone would appreciate improvements to public
transportation, it is essential for lower income people who can t afford cars. Relative to the area s size,
public transportation is considerably lacking, especially routes traveling east west through Austin and
even more so in the suburban counties. Currently, the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority
(Capital Metro) serves the city of Austin and very few surrounding suburbs in Travis and Williamson
Counties. Capital Metro provides 50 metro bus routes, 2 MetroRapid route, 8 express routes, and 19
shuttle routes for University of Texas students and has 3,000 bus stops. Capital Metro fares range from
$1.25 locally to $3.50 regionally per trip. In 2010, Capital Metro began providing commuter rail
service to connect downtown Austin with the northern suburb of Leander in Williamson County. The
line operates on 32 miles of track and has 9 stations. Despite this existing public transportation
infrastructure, the rapid population growth, much occurring away from the city center, has made it
difficult for public transportation services and regional roadways to keep up with anticipated needs of
the community, limiting residents convenient and timely access to employment ... Show more content

The Airport and Airway Act of 1982 chartered the FAA to address the growing aviation traffic flying
through major airports in the United States. The FAA generated the National Plan of Integrated Airport
Systems (NPIAS). The NPIAS modernized and replaced the 1970 National Airport System Plan. The
NPIAS focuses on the metric of enplanements, the number of boarding passengers at an airport, to aid
in the delineation among airports categorized as a Commercial Service (Primary), General Aviation
(GA), or Reliever Airport (Young, p. 11). The FAA generates a NPIAS report and delivers it to

Due to its location, I think of Ontario International Airport (ONT) as a reliever airport for Los Angles

Island MacArthur is a primary small hub facility ( Appendix A, p.21, 72). The only airport referenced
in the article as a reliever airport, and agrees with NPIAS designation is Santa Monica Municipal

medium and small hub airports that are still considered reliever airports for large hub

Government Spending On Welfare And The Gross Domestic Product
Introduction
Various governments send out information regarding how various tax revenues are utilizes on people
who pay these taxes. Spending is always broken into numerous categories and welfare is one of the
biggest categories. Expenditure on welfare is directly extracted from government statistics[1]. There
has been a great debate as to whether government spending on welfare has any relationship with the
size of a country s GDP[2]. As such, this research is meant to demystify the situation. The purpose of
carrying out this research is to examine any underlying correlation between the government spending
in welfare of the people and the gross domestic product.
There are two hypotheses as far as this subject is concerned. One sates that ... Show more content on

Additionally, people who are working in countries that have better welfare will be in a better position
to work and hence help build the GDP. Hence, carrying out the research will help the researcher be
able to choose between the two hypotheses and hence determine whether government expenditure on
welfare effects the growth of the GDP or stagnation of the same.
Literature Review
The question of whether or not there is a correlation between government spending on welfare and the
GDP has thrown policy makers into debates and clearly differing theoretical camps[3]. Empirical
studies have given confusing evidence as some of the studies have favored one approach or the other
depending on many factors in consideration. The huge growth of government spending on the welfare
of the people in both development and developing countries since the times of the Second World War
and its effect on the gross domestic product has produced a wide literature that offers distinct attempts
to expound on the observed relationship[4].
On the other side, studies on public finance have been channels on the identification of the primary
causes of the growth in public sector expenditure. Among the earliest trials to explain, the growth in
the economic growth and expenditure in the public sector is Wagner s Law. This law is based on the
observations of Adolf Wagner. His observations were first for his country and then for rest of the
world. He states that

Procurator Misconduct
A male pointer crossbreed was found in a bin in Dundonald Street last April 15, Friday. He was so
malnourished and badly dehydrated that he had to be put down after being rescued by Scottish SPCA
officers.
When news about the dog s ordeal became public, there was a resounding demand for justice.
Following an investigation, the Scottish SPCA now has two women in custody, and are said to be
reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
The two females, according to inspector Clare Anderson, will be reported for alleged offences under
the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 . The violation is directly related to abandonment
and unnecessary suffering of a dog.
Under Scottish criminal law, a Procurator Fiscal acts on the authority of the Lord Advocate, which is
one of the two Law Officers who head up the Procurator Fiscal Service and the Crown Office in
Scotland. The Procurator Fiscal Deputes, on the other hand, acts on the behalf of the Procurator Fiscal.

If evidence is insufficient, they can either ask the police to investigate further or drop the charges.
If evidence is enough to prosecute, the Procurator Fiscal Depute will then decide which court the
prosecution will take place. For least serious cases, dealing with them through a Fiscal Fine may be
enough. Minor road traffic offences, however, will be prosecuted by the Justice of the Peace Court.
Prosecution of more serious crimes are done in the Sheriff Court, and the most serious crimes in the
High Court.
If strong evidence of animal cruelty points to the two women arrested in connection with the incident,
the might be tried in any of the courts, depending on the gravity of their crime.

In the preoperative phase the first interaction I had with my assigned patient was at the holding area
where the assigned nurse asked Mr. A.G. for family members present at the hospital, the need for last
minute calls, and if there was any questions about the surgery and post surgery procedures.
At this time MR. A.G. particurlarly felt a little nervous, and anxious about the operating room but he
understood that this was a needed surgery; when asked about family member, he replied that only his
brother will be staying at the hospital with him; explaining that his wife was at work and, his kids
were at school. Mr. A.G appear a somewhat serious and a little pale.
There was limited use of the electronic health record, the assigned nurse mainly use the chart to verify
consent forms and physician s orders prior to surgery.
The assigned nurse explained to the patient about pain management/ pain scale after surgery and how
he will be waking up in the Intensive Care Unit where he was going to have chest tubes to remove the
extra fluid from the chest cavity; he confirmed understanding and was ready to move on with the
procedure. The role of the preoperative nurse is to ensure patients safety , provide information and

Carl Jung s Theory Of Psychology Essay
Carl Jung Theory 1 Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and created the idea, and established the school
of analytical psychology. He proposed and developed the extroverted and introverted personality,
archetypes, and the collective unconscious. Jung felt as if he was both a extroverted and introverted
person, as if he had two personalities. Jung had a lonely childhood and observed his family and the
adults in his life. He watched over his parents and teachers, in order to understand their behavior,
especially the behavior of his father. Through his work, Jung outlined one of his basic concepts, the
underlying processes of what we perceive to be our psyche. Jung decided to study word association in
patients. With word association Jung associated the word complex. Jung also wanted to understand the
symbolic meaning of the unconscious. He was interested in tracing the analogies between the contents
of the unconscious in Western man and the myths, cults, and rituals of primitive peoples. Analytical
psychology assumes the occult phenomena will influence lives of Jung s patients. Those patients
would inherit experiences from ancestors as a form of a collective unconscious. Analytical psychology
would aim at achieving a balance between opposing forces and people motivated by both conscious
and unconscious thoughts. The levels of the psyche in Jung s theory goes from the conscious, which is
the psychic images sensed by the ego, to the personal unconscious, the forgotten or

Mist And Saint Manuel, Martyr
La vida es sueño. Life is a dream. This theme, which explores the boundaries of reality, is featured in
two of Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno s works, Mist and Saint Manuel, Martyr. Published during
the early twentieth century, both works contrast with the absolute realism of Unamuno s
contemporaries. They include elements such as simple characterization, magical realism, and
metafiction. In fact, to first classify Mist, Unamuno coined the nonsense word nivola, as opposed to
the Spanish novela, novel, and in doing so pioneered a new literary genre, of which Mist and Saint

Compare and contrast the poems Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred
Owen and The Soldier by Rupert Brooke. What are the poets attitudes towards war and how do they
convey these attitudes?
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Rupert Brooke s The
Soldier express opposing views towards war and matters related to it.
Owen condemns war as the cause of immense and painful loss of youths, killed like animals. He also
attacks the church, generally held to preserve human life and dignity, implying it is powerless and
irrelevant in a war situation. Brooke expresses ready acceptance (his view is meant to be the general
view) of possible death on his country s behalf in grateful return to her for having bore, shaped and

If Brooke had mentioned materialistic things like special rights, possession or power then it gives rise
to the thought that his gratitude is questionable, because he has enjoyed privileges denied to others.
In the second stanza, Brooke whole heartedly declares that he will return to England what he has been
given. In his poem, Brooke doesn t criticise war or religion but emphasises whole hearted readiness to
return to England what he has been given. The spiritual being created and enriched by England is
returned gratefully. Brooke doesn t mention anything about the horrors of war. Even death is not
presented as something repulsive or of a loss but instead as a repayment to his country. He feels
indebted to England and is completely happy to settle his debt. He will return to England what she
gave him his
dust and delightful thoughts .
Brooke s poem has a confident tone of quiet conviction. The whole poem sounds proud and dignified.
Much of the time Brooke just praises
England and this makes the poem seem cheerful even. The first four lines of his poem are very
patriotic If I should die, think only this of me In that rich earth a richer dust concealed . Brooke says
these lines in a quiet confident manner. The tone lightens from then, as he describes pleasant things
like flowers , love and rivers . The beginning of the second stanza repeats the first line, and continues
with a calm statement of returning England s

Biochemical Techniques for the Extraction of Escherichia...
Modern biochemical study and analysis of nucleic acids have been heavily dominated by
electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction techniques, as the former allows for relatively
inexpensive and accessible resolution and visualization of nucleic acids according to basic chemical
properties such as molecular charge and weight, and the latter quickly increases the concentration of
nucleic acids, normally found in cells in minute amounts, to a level easily analyzed by modern
biochemical techniques. These two techniques are therefore currently indispensable in dealing with
nucleic acids on a practical level, and are tools which should be present in every biologist s kit. This
study therefore attempts to elucidate the theoretical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While ample plant and animal samples can be easily obtained, for bacterial samples such as E. coli,
they must be propagated first in culture in order to obtain the necessary amount of cells needed for the
DNA extraction process.
The extraction and purification of genomic DNA is essential as purified DNA serves as the starting
point for the amplification of a gene within the DNA via the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). First
and foremost, cell lysis or cell disruption must be done to release the cell contents to expose the DNA
within the organism, detergents, basic or high salt solutions will then be used for DNA purification by
dissociating other biomolecules such as proteins and lipids. DNA will finally be isolated through the
use of organic reagents and centrifugation to facilitate collection of the precipitated DNA.
Prior to the experiment, materials to be used were sterilized to prevent contamination, which may later
on affect the results as contaminants may react with the solutions to be used for the later procedures or
even damage the DNA samples. Autoclaving or the use of pressurized steam was utilized to sterilize
the materials as exposure to high temperatures normally causes damage to cytoplasmic membranes,
breakdown of ribosomes, irreversible enzyme denaturation and DNA strand breakage of bacterial
contaminants.
Due to the ability of nucleic acids to store genetic information which will later on encode for
necessary proteins, it is important to extract

Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy s Committee
Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy s committee (1954) In addition to limiting freedom of
speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued on a witch hunt to
remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting individuals based on
circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red Scare, followed World War
II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of much paranoia. One of the many
cases during this period that showed how little evidence was used against individuals to incriminate
them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a card carrying,
dues paying member of the Communist party and was brought to testify before McCarthy s
committee, for she was alleged to have examined and correct secret, encoded oversee messages. (The
McCarthy Years) As they began to question Moss, it became clear that the evidence against her was
only circumstantial. For starters, the F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person, but just knew her
name appeared in records kept by the communist party. This was clearly not enough to convict
someone of being a spy, especially since it was later said in testimony that three others name Annie
Lee Moss in the area. Second of all, she was said to have connections with a white man by the name
of Rob Halls, who was a well known Communist, but the Rob Halls Moss knew was a colored man.

medical breakthrough could be very beneficial. On the other hand, scientific testing can be very
dangerous and harmful to people. According to Levin, All of this, however, does not mean that science
is immoral. Quite the contrary is the case, and this is vital to remember (Levin). This quote shows both
sides of science. Throughout Frankenstein, Victor was always interested in the moment between life
and death. Eventually, he became so curious that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Health Of The Common American
The health of the common American is almost guaranteed at the center of every joke; from sly
comments about Americans only eating fast food, all the way to the chemicals contained in the food.
However, the health of one of the leading nations in the world isn t a laughing matter and it should be
taken as seriously as a heart attack. With certain foods Americans have such high stakes against them

Essay about Willie Nelson s Music Makes Me Happy
Going Busking is not as easy as it looks. You have to have a talent such as being a mime, singing,
playing an instrument, or dancing. I played piano in a band with my friends; our number one song was
On the Road Again by Willie Nelson. Willie Nelson changed music for some people and I will be
talking about music changing people s lives. Willie Hugh Nelson is a country music singer, song
writer, and guitar player, he was an author, poet, and activist. The album Shotgun Willie Made him a
very famous country artist. Willie was born in the great depression and he wrote his first song when he
was seven and joined a band when he was ten. He impacted people s lives because in the great

There are a lot of times in country music that there is a bass, guitar, singer, piano, and drums. That is
what our band is. The bass and the drums are for keeping the beat and sounding good. The piano and
the guitar are usually leading and if one is then the other is the background. And of course the singer is
the lead singer. Especially in country music, sometimes there are more than one singer and there is a
background singer.
Busking is like showbiz that is the same as an entry level job. If you perform well enough someone
could discover you and you could join the ranks of famous performers. First you have to find a good
place where people walk by or drive, then you can tell people about it and that will get some to come,
and you have to pick a good time to go. If you go when everyone is in school and at work you won t
get money and you won t get discovered.
We had a good turnout. Lots of people went. It is all because we used all of the skills that I have told
you. I learned piano, learned how to play On the Road Again . I had some trouble singing and playing
piano but it all worked out I learned that if you want to get better you need to practice and push
yourself. You will not get anywhere if you stay in the same place.
There are lots of ways that music can impact people s lives. Our project told us to impact the
environment around you, by using music, and we did. We went in

Framing Theory Paper
The attendance quiz question regarding losing and saving lives exhibits the framing theory. This case
scenario defines the framing theory because of the obvious variance in the language used to describe
the same outcome. The framing theory is that by emphasizing a situation or title using a certain
context of wording will activate a certain shelf to influence someone s decision or thought process.
Therefore, framing is integral to this topic of because choosing to emphasize words such as saving and
will die will influence how the respondents process this moral decision that will block them from
seeing they have the same outcome. This studies framing connects information to our heuristic
knowledge and highlights what we regard as important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, 200 people will be saved versus 400 people will die is merely reframed it to sound more
appealing on a certain side. Therefore, this moral question about gaining or losing is focusing us to
think about our decision in the event of a catastrophic incident in which we need to weight the risk
with a negative effect of those dying and the rewards of those living. As the respondent reads the
question in the survey, our mind s natural shelf unconsciously highlights the positive parts while
interpreting the information. Most people as the study concludes, around ⅔ who took the survey
would rather see saving and triggered the conservative side with choosing the least risk option. The
strategy and outcome of framing the situation like this is to influence how we think about trade offs
and our own value system. In comparison, ⅓ chose the most negative cognitive outcome form the
surface letting 400 die. The question frames the situation for the respondents most likely choose the
most logical human condition option to save, and to frames a negative feeling about letting people die.
Although, the framed question leaves out that in both situations the same amount of people live and
die this situation illustrates how farming helps citizens make connections between their everyday

Reaction (rate) between magnesium ribbon and hydrochloric...
Aim
It is to tell how the reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid will be effected if we change
the concentration of hydrochloric acid.
Introduction
In the experiment the magnesium reacts with the hydrochloric acid to create magnesium chloride and
hydrogen. The balanced formula for this is:
Mg(s) + 2HCL(aq) MgCl2(aq) + H2(g)
Magnesium + hydrochloric acid Magnesium Chloride + Hydrogen
Magnesium will react with hydrochloric acid, because it is higher in the reactivity series than
hydrogen. The magnesium displaces the hydrogen in the acid, so it forms magnesium chloride and
hydrogen gas.
There are many variables that I can change, which are the temperature and concentration of the
hydrochloric acid, and the mass and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of hydrogen I will end up with when the reaction has completely finished will be the
same for all the concentrations, but if a reaction is too slow and exceeds the set time I will stop taking
results and it might not finish reacting.
Preliminary experiment
I was suggested to use 20cm3 of hydrochloric acid and 5cm of cleaned magnesium ribbon, and take
the volume of hydrogen in the syringe every 10 seconds for the preliminary experiment to. I tried this
but the reaction happened very quickly and the results of the volume of hydrogen were very spread
out. The results for each 10 second interval were not accurate enough and there was not enough
magnesium to get a high level of hydrogen. To solve this I increased the amount of magnesium strip to
8cm, and decreased the time interval to 5 seconds each. I tried this and the results were much more
reliable to use and analyze.
Fair Test
To keep a fair test I will have to look into all the variables surrounding the experiment and only
change the variable that I am testing on. The other variables are the temperature of the acid at the
beginning, the volume of acid, the surface area of the magnesium strip, the length of the magnesium
strip and if the magnesium strip is cleaned or not.
The magnesium strips were cleaned and cut correctly by the lab technician and I measured and
inspected the strip each time I started the experiment to make sure it was ok for the experiment. Most
of these variables

How Social Policy And How It Has Had On Children And Their...
For the purpose of this essay I am going to be discussing how social policy and legislation with
regards to poverty in the UK has evolved and the effect it has had on children and their families. There
are 3.5 million children living in poverty in the UK today, 27 per cent of children (Department for
Work and Pensions, 2013). According to Mayer (1997), poor homes tend to have overcrowding, lack
electrical outlets and less likely to have central heating. The level of cognitive stimulation is another
element, which can be affected by lack of financial resources and poverty (Guo Harris, 2000). This
essay will now focus on five key acts these are; the poor law, National assistance act, the Sure Start
programme, the child poverty act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The act introduced a new position named Overseer of the poor. The role of the Overseer of the poor
was to collect the poor rate from property owners, supervise the parish poor house, calculate the
amount of Poor Rate requires for the parish and finally distribute money, clothes or food to the
deprived. The 1601 Act made provision for setting the deprived on work . This did not usually include
housing, but in 1631 there was a workhouse founded in Abingdon. The Poor Law was amended 1601
providing work or apprenticeships for orphaned children or whose parents could not provide for them,
parents and children were accountable for each other; so deprived elderly parents were expected be
accommodated by their children (Alchin, 2012).
The changes of the industrial revolution led to the development of the towns, increasing the
population leading to the first experience of modern unemployment and the trade cycle. This led to a
rise in poor rates. Due to the poor rates rising amendments to the poor law were introduced in 1834.
These included less eligibility; the position of the pauper must be less eligible or less to be selected
than that of the independent employee (Spicker, 2010).

in the midst of the horrors of World War II Poland. Schindler s List recounts the life of Oskar
Schindler, and how he comes to Poland in search of material wealth but leaves having saved the lives
of over 1100 Jews who would most certainly have perished. The novel focuses on how Schindler
comes to the realization that concentration and forced labor camps are wrong, and that many people

His workers were also very happy. This is because Schindler s Jews ; were treated as humans as
opposed to being treated as animals. For them, working in Schindler s factory was an escape from the
ghetto and from much German cruelty. They loved Schindler so much that his factory became known
as a haven throughout the Jewish community. However, things began to go sour for Schindler, when
the Germans ordered the liquidation of the ghettoes. Soon all of the Jews in the Cracow ghetto were
relocated to the Plaszow labor camp. By this time Schindler had grown so affectionate toward his
Jewish workers that he refused to hire Poles, and instead sought of a way to keep using the Jews that
he had grown so accustomed to. As the Cracow Jews were relocated to the Plaszow labor camp, Oskar
Schindler came into direct dealings with the camp s director, Amon Goeth. He did not like Amon, but
he tried to get in on his best side in order to keep using his Jews in his factory. Amon agreed to let
Schindler use them, and thus saving his Jews from some of the harshness of the Plaszow labor camp.

The cost of the project is directly proportional to the accuracy and the features to be extracted from the
point cloud. Therefore, with an equipment like MMS with high accuracy, the building can be built cost
effectively and there will be no wastage of money. Secondly, the MMS provides a rich dataset with a
very high data density for close range acquisition. However, there are a few factors which make the
densities to vary significantly, such as, the driving speed during acquisition, distance from the laser to
surface reflecting the laser s energy and the laser repetition rate. MMS is also capable of getting very
high point densities of 5000 point per square meter near the driven path. Hence, even a very small
feature along the road is also possible to be recognized and positioned at such high densities. Not only
that, the lasers also provide a true 360 degree coverage, allowing the accurate location of both ground
based and aerial features.
The MMS does not only contribute to the construction of buildings. MMS can also be adapted to
several different project data requirements. Transportation engineering projects such as railway,
highway and bridge and widening or upgrades of existing facilities where the acquisition is simplified
given the ease of data collection from driving. The mapping of rail facilities is one of the examples as

The Lottery Critique
The lottery
The Lottery by Shirley Hardie Jackson is a story set in a village of three hundred people, gathering for
an annual ritual. The tone at the beginning of Jackson s story is cheerful, and later becomes very dark
for Jackson s characters, and may shock the reader. Many literary critics have different points of view
on Jackson s story. A. R. Coultard, a literary critic, suggests that Jackson s story is to show the reader
the true cruelty of humanity. While Cleanth Brooks, a professor at Yale University, and Robert Penn
Warren, an educator, came together to say perhaps The Lottery might have been written to connect to
the reader s everyday controversies. However, Thomas Du Bose had a different interpretation of the
story, one of disappointment, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Brooks and Warren suggest that Jackson s purpose for the short story The Lottery was to
connect to the reader by creating the setting very similar to present day. Brooks and Warren get a
realistic impression of the village, and can relate to the characters, which is what gives the reader a
sense of grim terror (Books, Warren) at the end of the story. The fact that the readers can relate to the
cheerful setting of the sunny day in June provides a special shaping of the reader s attitude toward the
climactic event and toward that from which the climactic event stems (Brooks, Warren). The intense
shock the reader receives at the end of the story had to be carefully prepared by Jackson. The relation
between the reader, the setting, and the characters was to make her story believable, almost as to make
the reader question if her story was actually fiction. Because Jackson had taken the time to prepare the
reader for such an ending was perhaps to relate to live issues and issues relevant to our time (Brooks,
Warren) might have been the whole point of Jackon s short

The Positive And Negative Effects Of Anti-Smoking Campaigns
Did you know that almost 20% of adults in the United States smokes cigarettes? Cigarette smoke
contains around 4,800 chemicals, and 69 of these chemicals can cause cancer. The effects of using
tobacco are wide and varied, but all of them are dangerous to every user s health. Cigarette smoking is
the number one cause of death in the United States, and it is an easily reversible statistic. All anti
smoking ads gives a choice on whether to smoke or not and there s a significant percentage that still
chooses to do so. Anti smoking campaigns can either promote or prevent smoking and the negative bi
products of smoke inhalation in various ways. This provides a discussion of the negative and positive
impacts of anti smoking ads. Anti smoking ads aren t as effective as they should be, and most ads are
just put in place to place that fear factor in the viewers.
Most times the campaign has to hit harder with facts instead of a graphic depiction of what smoking
leads too. The image is created to get a reaction out of the audience. Whether its smokers or non
smokers, the point is to convey to the dangerous of smoking. The ad will either increase the distaste of
smoking and its negative effects or they will be brushed off because it has or is little effect on them or
their everyday life. It is not always safe to say that because the ad is good it will lead the people that
do smoke to stop.

Understanding Black Holes
Scientific Understanding of Black Holes Black holes are a place in space where the pull of gravity is
so strong that anything including light is able to escape. Researchers say that the gravity of a black
hole is so strong because matter is pressed into a tiny space. Black holes are sometimes called dying
stars or they result in dying stars. There are many different sizes of black holes, but the three most
common are primordial black holes, stellar, and supermassive. This list goes from smallest to largest.
These size differences makes them so they can form in different ways. Primordial black holes are said
to be formed right after the big bang. Stellar black holes form when a very massive star collapses on
itself. These are also called exploding stars or a supernova. Supermassive black holes are formed at
the same time in the same galaxy . With all these facts about black holes I can determine the difference
between what NASA thinks they are and what the movie thinks they are.
How the Video Accurately Showed Black Holes In the movie Interstellar there s a movie scene where

The Goal Through Acts Of Domestic Terrorism
Maureen, who immigrated from Montreal, Quebec in 1995 moved to the United States for personal,
political, and economic reasons. She was in pursuit of a better life for herself and her family and
wanted to escape the growing linguistic and cultural intolerance of Quebec society.
The late 1960 s and early 1970 s in Canada was a time of political upheaval, especially in Quebec,
with the rise of the separatist/ liberation movement. The Front de Liberation du Quebec (FLQ) gained
popularity by expressing the outwardly harmless goal of Quebec independence from Canada and the
creation of a French workers society. But the FLQ attempted to achieve this goal through acts of
domestic terrorism, such as planting bombs in Canadian federal institutions like mailboxes, and
creating mass hysteria, especially in English communities. By doing this, the FLQ managed to even
further separate the French and English in Quebec. In October 1970, the FLQ kidnapped the British
trade commissioner, James Cross, and the vice premier of Quebec, Pierre Laporte. In response, Prime
Minister Pierre Trudeau sent soldiers and tanks into the streets of Montreal . The Prime Minister had

Education From Rabelais Perspective
Education from Rabelais Perspective
The Renaissance altered centuries of thought in Europe. One figured who contributed to
revolutionizing though was the author Francois Rabelais who wrote comedic critiques of his world. In
his stories of Gargantua and Pantagruel the author critiques many aspects of sixteenth century life
especially the education system. He examines previous educational attitudes, as well as those during
his time. As a humanist thinker, Rabelais values education and reform. The author was extremely
familiar with the university system in France during the Renaissance because he himself studied in
these places. Francois Rabelais emphasizes that education has progressed since the Middle Ages, but
he also affirms problems still persist during the Renaissance period.
Rabelais critiques medieval education to demonstrate the flawed system prior to the Renaissance.
Rabelais finds issue with traditional scholastic debates pro et contra due to their loose connection to
seeking truth (M.A. Screech 30). He communicates his personal distress through Pantagruel s rants
about prior scholars glossing worthwhile texts (Rabelais 33). Glossing, or commentary by scholars,
was a popular scholastic pursuit before the Renaissance. Rabelais found it to detract from the texts
overall value. The author also uses Gargantua, Pantagruel s father, who lived during the prior period to
emphasize the many additional specific failures of medieval education. He writes Pantagruel a

Bilingual Education Controversy
The Disputation Over Bilingual Education There are many aspects of the United States education
system that many people would agree need change or in the minimal improvement. One topic under
the education system that has had much controversy since it was first introduced is Bilingual
Education. Bilingual Education is the teaching or practice programs of two languages to teach content
ranging from kindergarten to high school. Bilingual Education programs vary in levels and languages.
Some programs are designed to assimilate non english speakers into the English language, others are
meant develop knowledge of a completely different foreign language. Equally the goal proficiency of
the language varies drastically. Some programs are meant to teach students the basic understandings of
the language in oder to write and speak it adequately and others are meant to allow the student to
reach a fluency level. One of the most popular type of program would be a Spanish and English
program since Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States. The most common
type if bilingual program is intended to transition native Spanish speakers into the English language;
this is way of helping kids assimilate into the American culture. However, the use of two languages
established in the education system has been a controversial idea since first introduced. It receives
differing support and has not been able to achieve a conclusive establishment in the public school
system. The

Compare And Contrast Quakers And Puritans
When colonists from Northern Europe obtained land in North America, they did not only create vast
settlements that traded goods between Europe and the Americas but also organized independent
churches that catered to their population. For instance, when the Puritans settled the Massachusetts
Bay in 1630, they developed their own government and rules compared to the Quakers who settled
Pennsylvania in 1681. Both these colonies had many aspects in common but due to the fact that both
settlements had different beliefs, ideals, and contrasting opinions on society, they naturally separated
and created too completely different colonies. For example, John Winthrop was the minister and
leader of the Puritan colony and was a strong believer in conformity ... Show more content on

This is shown greatly in John Winthrop s city upon a hill speech because during this he states that the
Puritans are above every other country and colony by saying, For we must consider that we shall be as
a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us. So that if we shall deal falsely with our God in
this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall be
made a story and a by word through the world (Winthrop, 1630). In other words, what Winthrop is
saying is that if the Puritans as a colony failed it would not only be an embarrassment but also because
they believed that God was upholding their colony they were being watched by every other country
and colony. This clearly shows that the Puritans wished to not only isolate themselves from the rest of
the world but also it shows that the Puritans thought of themselves as a higher caliber than others. This
is very contrasting to the Quakers for several reasons. This is because the Quakers were accepting of
all into their community unlike the Puritans and wished to not isolate themselves from other countries
and colonies but wanted to connect with them. For example, in William Penn s letter to the Native
Americans he states that it would

Gun History Essay
Gun History/Development:
What is the history of guns and gun building throughout the world?
Over 43% of Americans own a gun for either sporting or protection ( 21 unbelieveable ). Guns have
been improved throughout many years and there are still many people making many improvements
yet today. The history and evolution of guns improved by the creators who made them and how the
improvements better helped the gun overall are some of the things you will find in this paper. Some
background of gunpowder started with a man named Berthold Schwarz. He was a German monk who
was the first to make gunpowder around the 1300s. He also invented the first gun which wasn t
technically a gun but a huge heavy cannon which used gunpowder to fire (Kevin 4). ... Show more

After people got tired of dragging around a huge heavy cannon they then made a smaller handled
cannon but it was still very hard to aim because you had to hold it with one hand and light it with the
other (Supica, Jim). The Arquebuses were the first handheld gun that didn t need to be lit by match or
fuse. Also with the Arquebuse being able to be held with two hands and not having to lit by hand made
it way more accurate than earlier guns (14). The Arquebuse also greatly helped to create the musket
which had a better more advanced ignition system. The musket first began to be used during the
1400s. Then muskets helped to design the flintlock (14). Also by the mid 1400s people began to
develope handguns or pistols. By the 1500s people were able to make pistol effective to about four
feet. One bad thing was how long the pistols took to reload so they then began to design and create the
revolver (18). Then around 1833 the very first breech loader was created. A breech loader is loaded
from the back of the gun instead of the front making it a lot quicker and easier to reload. Then shortly
after in around 1840 they began to mass produce the first revolver called the pepperbox (Supica,

Benefits Of Genetically Modified Plants
Genetically Modified Plants
The term GMO Plants (genetically modified organisms) is most commonly used to refer to crop plants
created for human, or animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques. These plants
have been modified in the laboratory to enhance desired traits such as increased resistance to
herbicides and improved nutritional content. The enhancement of desired traits has traditionally been
undertaken through breeding, but conventional plant breeding methods can be very time consuming
and are often not very accurate. Genetic engineering can create plants with the exact desired trait very
rapidly and with great accuracy.
The world population is growing every year and is predicted to double in the next
50 years (WHO). Ensuring an adequate supply for this booming human population is going to be a
major challenge in the years to come. GM foods promise to meet this need in a number of ways:
Pharmaceuticals, medicines and vaccines often are costly to produce and sometimes require special
storage conditions not readily available in third world countries. Researchers are working to develop
edible vaccines in tomatoes and potatoes. These vaccines will be much easier to ship, store and
administer than traditional injectable vaccines. Nutrition, malnutrition is common in third world
countries where impoverished peoples rely on a single crop such as rice for the main staple of their
diet. However, rice does not contain adequate amounts of all necessary

How To Calculate Child Support
Child support is not just handed out without a process in the Corona family law sector. There are
guidelines on how to calculate child support and what the non custodial parent and custodial parent
are responsible for when it comes to their minor child s overall care and well being.
Three Common Factors of Calculating Child Support
1) The number of minor (or incapacitated/disabled dependent) children that require financial support.
2) The amount of quality parenting time each of the parents will have with the children.
3) The disposable income of each parent, which is not taken from your gross income, but instead takes
into account various financial considerations as well.
These three factors are not the only ones used to calculate child ... Show more content on

It is known as medical support. This is another factor that can raise or lower the support amount.
The guidelines are designed so that the insurance amount won t go over five percent of the gross
income of the parent who is carrying it. The parent who pays for the health insurance coverage gets to
use the amount as a deduction on the child support worksheet and is part of the calculation.
What that means is that the amount of actual financial child support will be lowered since the court
considers both incomes, therefore both parents are essentially paying for the health coverage
regardless of which one carries it.
Child support is a complex and detailed process even with the strict calculation guidelines in place.
The parents can agree upon an amount or the court may adjust the amount according to the situation.
Regardless of your situation, you need to hire a Corona divorce attorney to help you come to an
agreement or help settle things in the courtroom. Ideally, the goal is for both parties to come to a
reasonable agreement about child support, but that is not always possible. If litigation is necessary,
you will be pleased that you chose an attorney whether you pay or receive child

Europe During The Medieval Period
During the medieval time period of 200 AD to 1650 AD, Europe experienced a fluctuation in
population numbers. Factors such as disease, famine, war, and others all contribute to the changes in
population. A trend to help represent the medieval demography show a population decline during the
Late Antiquity, slow population growth during the Early Middle Ages, large population expansion
during the High Middle Ages, and a variation of population decline and growth during the Late
Middle Ages. The Late Antiquity reflects the decline of the Roman Empire. From 150 AD to 400 AD
the population of the Roman Empire went from 70 million people to 50 million people. The empire s
decline began with the Antonine Plague, lasting from 165 AD to 180 AD. The Antonine Plague,
suspected to be either smallpox or measles, was brought back to the Roman Empire through returning
soldiers from the east. A devastating 2,000 deaths daily lead to the total estimated 5 million deaths.
Succeeding the Antonine Plague was the Crisis of the Third Century: 235 AD to 284 AD. The Roman
Empire almost came to an end from outside invasions, internal civil wars, economic depression, and
new diseases. The Plague of Cyprian, 250 AD to 271 AD, like the Antonine Plague was also suspected
to be smallpox. The plague took its toll on the population, killing 5,000 people daily. The increase in
deaths inhibited the number of workers in agriculture and the Roman Empire. In 535 AD to 536 AD,
the empire then faced extreme

Section I: Introduction to Norovirus
The prototype of norovirus was identified in 1968 by electron microscopy as a cause of Gastroenteritis
in Norwalk, Ohio. Human noroviruses are a major cause of Epidemic Gastroenteritis, and Epidemic
Gastroenteritis is a major cause of foodborne illness. Outbreaks occur throughout the year, but it is
most common in the winter. Causes 19 21 million cases of acute gastroenteritis, and contributes to
56,000 71,000 hospitalizations and 570 800 deaths, mostly among young children and older adults.
Responsible for 58% of domestically acquired foodborne illnesses, and about 50% of foodborne
disease outbreaks due to known agents.

While abnormalities are apparent in intestinal epithelial cells of norovirus infected volunteers, electron
microscopy analysis reveals that these cells remain intact [69,70]. Crypt cell hyperplasia has also been
reported following norovirus infection [71,73]. Only proximal intestinal biopsies from infected
individuals were obtained in early volunteer studies so it remains to be determined whether the distal
intestine is also affected by norovirus infection. In addition to enterocyte changes, norovirus infection
results in a mild inflammatory infiltration into the lamina propria that has been observed in humans
infected with the Norwalk [69,71] and Hawaii viruses [70,72], gnotobiotic calves infected with the
human GII.4 norovirus HS66 [74], and mice infected with murine norovirus 1 (MNV 1) [75]. A recent
study also reports an increased number of intraepithelial cytotoxic T cells in the duodenum of
norovirus infected patients 0 6 days after symptom onset

Company Overview Of ETF Options
Trevir Nath
ETF Options
Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), similar in many ways to mutual funds, are investment funds traded
on stock exchanges. ETFs track the performance of commodities, bonds, and large indices such as the
S P 500 (SPX), NASDAQ (IXIC), Dow Jones (DJI), etc. Much like stocks, ETFs experience price
changes throughout the trading day in which they are bought and sold. Fundamentally, the prices of
assets traded remain close to, but not always equal, to its net asset value. Largely attractive due to
lower costs, flexibility, minimal capital gains taxes, and leverage for market exposure, ETFs have
become popular amongst investors. With a recent influx of ETF investments, the risks associated can
have severe ramifications to the individual investor and financial markets. To mitigate these risks,
ETFs can have options written against them as a hedging strategy for speculative investors.
ETF Overview Following the 2008 Financial Crisis, financial institutions sought alternative
investments offering structure, transparency and liquid products. At face value, ETFs provide
investors with a vehicle to meet their demands. Exchange traded funds are classified as open ended
funds allowing investors to gain diversified exposure to financial assets ranging from emerging
markets to large indexes. ETF shares are created by financial institutions which replicate the market
movement of an underlying index. For example, SPDR funds are a group of ETFs tracking the
movement of

  • 2. The Soul Of A Deceased Child By Toni Morrison In 1873, just after the Civil War ended, a house numbered 124 on the edge of Cincinnati, Ohio is haunted by the soul of a deceased child. Sethe, an ex slave, and her two daughters, Denver and Beloved, occupy the home. The oldest daughter Beloved, however, happens to be the ghost haunting her mother and sister. The bond between a mother and her children is evident throughout Toni Morrison s 1987 novel, Beloved; seen in Sethe s lack of a relationship with her mother, and therefore, her desire to properly nurture her own children. Unfortunately, slavery does not allow for the existence of motherhood. The motherly impulse to protect one s children is innate, but in the dehumanizing realm of slavery, Sethe s maternal instincts are limited and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sethe s only other memory of her mother is when Sethe recognizes her mother s branding on her hanging body. This horrifying image sticks with Sethe her entire life, and causes her psychological agony. Sethe does not want her children to suffer the pain she has. She wants them to have a relationship with their mother, and especially not see her die. Sethe also remembers that as a baby she was deprived of milk from her mother to survive. Sethe was nursed by another woman, and recalls that The little whitebabies got it first and I got what was left nursed her. Or none. There was no nursing milk to call my own. I know what it is to be without the milk that belongs to you; to have to fight and holler for it, and to have so little left (Morrison 236). Sethe was malnourished and not fed by her own mother, which further stresses the separation between them. Sethe s few childhood memories of her mother make it extremely important to her to nurse her children. When Sethe is cruelly held down and robbed of this ability, she is more infuriated than the time she is brutally whipped (Morrison 19). When telling a fellow slave about the beating she endured before escaping, she reiterates, they took my milk! This emphasizes how imperative it was to Sethe to save her milk for her child. Sethe s lack of motherly nurturing and loss of her mother cause her to want a stronger bond with her own children and a better life for them. The idea that slavery discourages ... • 3. Gothic Elements In Gothic Literature Gothic literature can be defined as writing that employs dark and picturesque scenery, startling and melodramatic narrative devices, and an overall atmosphere of exoticism, mystery, and dread. The gothic world is dark and can contain evil, dark and mysteries. The short stories A Rose for Emily written by William Faulkner, The Black Cat written by Edgar Allen Poe, Prey written by Richard Matheson, The Feather Pillow , written by Horacio Quiroga and the novel The Night Circus written by Erin Morgenstern all represent several gothic elements. Isolation or entrapment is a gothic element that is found in The Night Circus , A Rose for Emily and The Feather Pillow . Violence or revenge is a gothic element that is well represented by the short stories The Black Cat , Prey and the novel The Night Circus . The narrators use these types of gothic elements to prove that if you stay away from people around you or force others to isolate themselves from the world and act evil towards others, it will lead to your own catastrophe. In the short story A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, Miss Emily stays locked in her house guarding a morbid secret. That happened after her dad dies and her boyfriend skips town. Government Spending On Welfare And The Gross Domestic Product Introduction Various governments send out information regarding how various tax revenues are utilizes on people who pay these taxes. Spending is always broken into numerous categories and welfare is one of the biggest categories. Expenditure on welfare is directly extracted from government statistics[1]. There has been a great debate as to whether government spending on welfare has any relationship with the size of a country s GDP[2]. As such, this research is meant to demystify the situation. The purpose of carrying out this research is to examine any underlying correlation between the government spending in welfare of the people and the gross domestic product. There are two hypotheses as far as this subject is concerned. One sates that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, people who are working in countries that have better welfare will be in a better position to work and hence help build the GDP. Hence, carrying out the research will help the researcher be able to choose between the two hypotheses and hence determine whether government expenditure on welfare effects the growth of the GDP or stagnation of the same. Literature Review The question of whether or not there is a correlation between government spending on welfare and the GDP has thrown policy makers into debates and clearly differing theoretical camps[3]. Empirical studies have given confusing evidence as some of the studies have favored one approach or the other depending on many factors in consideration. The huge growth of government spending on the welfare of the people in both development and developing countries since the times of the Second World War and its effect on the gross domestic product has produced a wide literature that offers distinct attempts to expound on the observed relationship[4]. On the other side, studies on public finance have been channels on the identification of the primary causes of the growth in public sector expenditure. Among the earliest trials to explain, the growth in the economic growth and expenditure in the public sector is Wagner s Law. This law is based on the observations of Adolf Wagner. • 18. Carl Jung s Theory Of Psychology Essay Carl Jung Theory 1 Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and created the idea, and established the school of analytical psychology. He proposed and developed the extroverted and introverted personality, archetypes, and the collective unconscious. Jung felt as if he was both a extroverted and introverted person, as if he had two personalities. Jung had a lonely childhood and observed his family and the adults in his life. He watched over his parents and teachers, in order to understand their behavior, especially the behavior of his father. Through his work, Jung outlined one of his basic concepts, the underlying processes of what we perceive to be our psyche. Jung decided to study word association in patients. With word association Jung associated the word complex. Jung also wanted to understand the symbolic meaning of the unconscious. He was interested in tracing the analogies between the contents of the unconscious in Western man and the myths, cults, and rituals of primitive peoples. Analytical psychology assumes the occult phenomena will influence lives of Jung s patients. Those patients would inherit experiences from ancestors as a form of a collective unconscious. Analytical psychology would aim at achieving a balance between opposing forces and people motivated by both conscious and unconscious thoughts. The levels of the psyche in Jung s theory goes from the conscious, which is the psychic images sensed by the ego, to the personal unconscious, the forgotten or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modern biochemical study and analysis of nucleic acids have been heavily dominated by electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction techniques, as the former allows for relatively inexpensive and accessible resolution and visualization of nucleic acids according to basic chemical properties such as molecular charge and weight, and the latter quickly increases the concentration of nucleic acids, normally found in cells in minute amounts, to a level easily analyzed by modern biochemical techniques. While ample plant and animal samples can be easily obtained, for bacterial samples such as E. coli, they must be propagated first in culture in order to obtain the necessary amount of cells needed for the DNA extraction process. The extraction and purification of genomic DNA is essential as purified DNA serves as the starting point for the amplification of a gene within the DNA via the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). First and foremost, cell lysis or cell disruption must be done to release the cell contents to expose the DNA within the organism, detergents, basic or high salt solutions will then be used for DNA purification by dissociating other biomolecules such as proteins and lipids. DNA will finally be isolated through the use of organic reagents and centrifugation to facilitate collection of the precipitated DNA. Prior to the experiment, materials to be used were sterilized to prevent contamination, which may later on affect the results as contaminants may react with the solutions to be used for the later procedures or even damage the DNA samples. Autoclaving or the use of pressurized steam was utilized to sterilize the materials as exposure to high temperatures normally causes damage to cytoplasmic membranes, breakdown of ribosomes, irreversible enzyme denaturation and DNA strand breakage of bacterial contaminants. Annie Lee Moss Appearance Before Mccarthy s Committee Annie Lee Moss appearance before McCarthy s committee (1954) In addition to limiting freedom of speech through the Espionage Act of 1917 and the Smith Act, Congress continued on a witch hunt to remove all dissenters in any way they could, often charging and prosecuting individuals based on circumstantial evidence. This period, often referred to as the Second Red Scare, followed World War II and came as the United States entered the Cold War, was a time of much paranoia. One of the many cases during this period that showed how little evidence was used against individuals to incriminate them was the case of Annie Lee Moss. According to a F.B.I informant, Ms. Moss was a card carrying, dues paying member of the Communist party and was brought to testify before McCarthy s committee, for she was alleged to have examined and correct secret, encoded oversee messages. (The McCarthy Years) As they began to question Moss, it became clear that the evidence against her was only circumstantial. For starters, the F.B.I informant had never seen Moss in person, but just knew her name appeared in records kept by the communist party. This was clearly not enough to convict someone of being a spy, especially since it was later said in testimony that three others name Annie Lee Moss in the area. Second of all, she was said to have connections with a white man by the name of Rob Halls, who was a well known Communist, but the Rob Halls Moss knew was a colored man. Aim It is to tell how the reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid will be effected if we change the concentration of hydrochloric acid. Introduction In the experiment the magnesium reacts with the hydrochloric acid to create magnesium chloride and hydrogen. The balanced formula for this is: Mg(s) + 2HCL(aq) MgCl2(aq) + H2(g) Magnesium + hydrochloric acid Magnesium Chloride + Hydrogen Magnesium will react with hydrochloric acid, because it is higher in the reactivity series than hydrogen. I tried this but the reaction happened very quickly and the results of the volume of hydrogen were very spread out. The results for each 10 second interval were not accurate enough and there was not enough magnesium to get a high level of hydrogen. There are many different sizes of black holes, but the three most common are primordial black holes, stellar, and supermassive. This list goes from smallest to largest. These size differences makes them so they can form in different ways. Primordial black holes are said to be formed right after the big bang. Trichinella spiralis is a nematode parasite that is usually transmitted to humans by eating undercooked meat from animals such as pigs. How does Trichinella spiralis cause disease in humans? Why might ingesting this organism be more dangerous than ingesting a beef tapeworm? a. Once the Trichinella spiralis is ingested it goes through the body into the stomach, and encounters pepsin and gastric acid. Once this occurs larva is released and travels into the small bowel mucosa where they mature into adult worms. The adult worms then travel into the striated muscle an encyst into the body where they may live for years. Compared to beef tapeworms Trichinella is far more dangerous, due to the potential that the larva will migrate to the brain, this may cause very serious symptoms such as epilepsy or even death. • 43. The Goal Through Acts Of Domestic Terrorism Maureen, who immigrated from Montreal, Quebec in 1995 moved to the United States for personal, political, and economic reasons. She was in pursuit of a better life for herself and her family and wanted to escape the growing linguistic and cultural intolerance of Quebec society. The late 1960 s and early 1970 s in Canada was a time of political upheaval, especially in Quebec, with the rise of the separatist/ liberation movement. The Front de Liberation du Quebec (FLQ) gained popularity by expressing the outwardly harmless goal of Quebec independence from Canada and the creation of a French workers society. But the FLQ attempted to achieve this goal through acts of domestic terrorism, such as planting bombs in Canadian federal institutions like mailboxes, and creating mass hysteria, especially in English communities. By doing this, the FLQ managed to even further separate the French and English in Quebec. In October 1970, the FLQ kidnapped the British trade commissioner, James Cross, and the vice premier of Quebec, Pierre Laporte. In response, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau sent soldiers and tanks into the streets of Montreal . The Prime Minister had declared martial law in the province of Quebec, the only time that Canada has ever done this. Maureen was born in Montreal, Canada on July 5th, 1963 into a middle class, Irish Catholic family. • 44. Education From Rabelais Perspective Education from Rabelais Perspective The Renaissance altered centuries of thought in Europe. One figured who contributed to revolutionizing though was the author Francois Rabelais who wrote comedic critiques of his world. In his stories of Gargantua and Pantagruel the author critiques many aspects of sixteenth century life especially the education system. He examines previous educational attitudes, as well as those during his time. As a humanist thinker, Rabelais values education and reform. The author was extremely familiar with the university system in France during the Renaissance because he himself studied in these places. Francois Rabelais emphasizes that education has progressed since the Middle Ages, but he also affirms problems still persist during the Renaissance period. Rabelais critiques medieval education to demonstrate the flawed system prior to the Renaissance. Rabelais finds issue with traditional scholastic debates pro et contra due to their loose connection to seeking truth (M.A. Screech 30). He communicates his personal distress through Pantagruel s rants about prior scholars glossing worthwhile texts (Rabelais 33). Glossing, or commentary by scholars, was a popular scholastic pursuit before the Renaissance. Rabelais found it to detract from the texts overall value. The author also uses Gargantua, Pantagruel s father, who lived during the prior period to emphasize the many additional specific failures of medieval education. He writes Pantagruel a ... Some programs are meant to teach students the basic understandings of the language in oder to write and speak it adequately and others are meant to allow the student to reach a fluency level. One of the most popular type of program would be a Spanish and English program since Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States. The most common type if bilingual program is intended to transition native Spanish speakers into the English language; this is way of helping kids assimilate into the American culture. It receives differing support and has not been able to achieve a conclusive establishment in the public school system. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Compare And Contrast Quakers And Puritans When colonists from Northern Europe obtained land in North America, they did not only create vast settlements that traded goods between Europe and the Americas but also organized independent churches that catered to their population. For instance, when the Puritans settled the Massachusetts Bay in 1630, they developed their own government and rules compared to the Quakers who settled Pennsylvania in 1681. Both these colonies had many aspects in common but due to the fact that both settlements had different beliefs, ideals, and contrasting opinions on society, they naturally separated and created too completely different colonies. For example, John Winthrop was the minister and leader of the Puritan colony and was a strong believer in conformity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is shown greatly in John Winthrop s city upon a hill speech because during this he states that the Puritans are above every other country and colony by saying, For we must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us. So that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall be made a story and a by word through the world (Winthrop, 1630). In other words, what Winthrop is saying is that if the Puritans as a colony failed it would not only be an embarrassment but also because they believed that God was upholding their colony they were being watched by every other country and colony. This clearly shows that the Puritans wished to not only isolate themselves from the rest of the world but also it shows that the Puritans thought of themselves as a higher caliber than others. This is very contrasting to the Quakers for several reasons. This is because the Quakers were accepting of all into their community unlike the Puritans and wished to not isolate themselves from other countries and colonies but wanted to connect with them. For example, in William Penn s letter to the Native Americans he states that it would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Gun History Essay Gun History/Development: What is the history of guns and gun building throughout the world? Over 43% of Americans own a gun for either sporting or protection ( 21 unbelieveable ). Guns have been improved throughout many years and there are still many people making many improvements yet today. The history and evolution of guns improved by the creators who made them and how the improvements better helped the gun overall are some of the things you will find in this paper. Some background of gunpowder started with a man named Berthold Schwarz. He was a German monk who was the first to make gunpowder around the 1300s. He also invented the first gun which wasn t technically a gun but a huge heavy cannon which used gunpowder to fire (Kevin 4). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After people got tired of dragging around a huge heavy cannon they then made a smaller handled cannon but it was still very hard to aim because you had to hold it with one hand and light it with the other (Supica, Jim). The Arquebuses were the first handheld gun that didn t need to be lit by match or fuse. Also with the Arquebuse being able to be held with two hands and not having to lit by hand made it way more accurate than earlier guns (14). The Arquebuse also greatly helped to create the musket which had a better more advanced ignition system. The musket first began to be used during the 1400s. Then muskets helped to design the flintlock (14). Also by the mid 1400s people began to develope handguns or pistols. By the 1500s people were able to make pistol effective to about four feet. One bad thing was how long the pistols took to reload so they then began to design and create the revolver (18). Then around 1833 the very first breech loader was created. A breech loader is loaded from the back of the gun instead of the front making it a lot quicker and easier to reload. Then shortly after in around 1840 they began to mass produce the first revolver called the pepperbox (Supica, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Benefits Of Genetically Modified Plants Genetically Modified Plants The term GMO Plants (genetically modified organisms) is most commonly used to refer to crop plants created for human, or animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques. These plants have been modified in the laboratory to enhance desired traits such as increased resistance to herbicides and improved nutritional content. The enhancement of desired traits has traditionally been undertaken through breeding, but conventional plant breeding methods can be very time consuming and are often not very accurate. Genetic engineering can create plants with the exact desired trait very rapidly and with great accuracy. The world population is growing every year and is predicted to double in the next 50 years (WHO). Ensuring an adequate supply for this booming human population is going to be a major challenge in the years to come. GM foods promise to meet this need in a number of ways: Pharmaceuticals, medicines and vaccines often are costly to produce and sometimes require special storage conditions not readily available in third world countries. Researchers are working to develop edible vaccines in tomatoes and potatoes. These vaccines will be much easier to ship, store and administer than traditional injectable vaccines. Nutrition, malnutrition is common in third world countries where impoverished peoples rely on a single crop such as rice for the main staple of their diet. There are guidelines on how to calculate child support and what the non custodial parent and custodial parent are responsible for when it comes to their minor child s overall care and well being. Three Common Factors of Calculating Child Support 1) The number of minor (or incapacitated/disabled dependent) children that require financial support. 2) The amount of quality parenting time each of the parents will have with the children. 3) The disposable income of each parent, which is not taken from your gross income, but instead takes into account various financial considerations as well. This is another factor that can raise or lower the support amount. The guidelines are designed so that the insurance amount won t go over five percent of the gross income of the parent who is carrying it. The parent who pays for the health insurance coverage gets to use the amount as a deduction on the child support worksheet and is part of the calculation. What that means is that the amount of actual financial child support will be lowered since the court considers both incomes, therefore both parents are essentially paying for the health coverage regardless of which one carries it. Child support is a complex and detailed process even with the strict calculation guidelines in place. The parents can agree upon an amount or the court may adjust the amount according to the situation. Regardless of your situation, you need to hire a Corona divorce attorney to help you come to an agreement or help settle things in the courtroom. Ideally, the goal is for both parties to come to a reasonable agreement about child support, but that is not always possible. • 50. Europe During The Medieval Period During the medieval time period of 200 AD to 1650 AD, Europe experienced a fluctuation in population numbers. Factors such as disease, famine, war, and others all contribute to the changes in population. A trend to help represent the medieval demography show a population decline during the Late Antiquity, slow population growth during the Early Middle Ages, large population expansion during the High Middle Ages, and a variation of population decline and growth during the Late Middle Ages. The Late Antiquity reflects the decline of the Roman Empire. From 150 AD to 400 AD the population of the Roman Empire went from 70 million people to 50 million people. The empire s decline began with the Antonine Plague, lasting from 165 AD to 180 AD. The Antonine Plague, suspected to be either smallpox or measles, was brought back to the Roman Empire through returning soldiers from the east. A devastating 2,000 deaths daily lead to the total estimated 5 million deaths. Succeeding the Antonine Plague was the Crisis of the Third Century: 235 AD to 284 AD. The Roman Empire almost came to an end from outside invasions, internal civil wars, economic depression, and new diseases. The Plague of Cyprian, 250 AD to 271 AD, like the Antonine Plague was also suspected to be smallpox. The plague took its toll on the population, killing 5,000 people daily. The increase in deaths inhibited the number of workers in agriculture and the Roman Empire. In 535 AD to 536 AD, the empire then faced extreme ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ETFs track the performance of commodities, bonds, and large indices such as the S P 500 (SPX), NASDAQ (IXIC), Dow Jones (DJI), etc. Much like stocks, ETFs experience price changes throughout the trading day in which they are bought and sold. Fundamentally, the prices of assets traded remain close to, but not always equal, to its net asset value. Largely attractive due to lower costs, flexibility, minimal capital gains taxes, and leverage for market exposure, ETFs have become popular amongst investors. With a recent influx of ETF investments, the risks associated can have severe ramifications to the individual investor and financial markets. To mitigate these risks, ETFs can have options written against them as a hedging strategy for speculative investors. ETF Overview Following the 2008 Financial Crisis, financial institutions sought alternative investments offering structure, transparency and liquid products. At face value, ETFs provide investors with a vehicle to meet their demands. Exchange traded funds are classified as open ended funds allowing investors to gain diversified exposure to financial assets ranging from emerging markets to large indexes.
