Pursuit Of Happiness Movie Analysis
The film The Pursuit of Happyness has a wide range of social problems that included and has an affect
on society. The main character Chris a pharmaceutical representative who is having trouble selling his
product. Without selling his product he is unable to support his family and is out of a job. After
becoming homeless, he finds an internship that could possibly turn into a job. He eventually is hired
by the firm and is able to support his son who kept him going because he had someone who believed
and counted on him to do what he needed to get done. When Chris tried to sell his bone density
scanners and the doctors who would be interested in buying the product had already spent the
maximum amount of money on products that are similar. He had to continue to sell his product and try
to make money. Not everyone would have enough money to be able to support their family. Anna
Leon Guerrero explained, In 2013 families with a female householder and no spouse present were
more likely to be poor than were families with male householder and snow spouse present, 30.6%
versus 15.9% (Anna Leon Guerrero, pg 39). Those who are working females tend to not make as
much money as a working male would. Which would show that women are treated differently due to
other not thinking females can handle certain roles that are typically known as a man s job. While
Chris was not able to make ends meet he had been evicted from his apartment and could not afford to

Inception- Mise-En-Scene
Mise en scene The scene that is going to be analyzing in this part is the scene in the second dimension
of the dream. In the other word, the scene in the hotel or Arther s dream. Mise en scene will covered
many details in the shot for example, setting, lighting, character casts with their performance style,
costume and make up, and the props that is using in the shot. This analysis will involve only the part
where all of characters are in the same room, before they are going down into the deeper dream. Cobb

Mr. Charlse (Cobb) and his team should look really formal, credible and professional so they are
wearing the suits adjusting with each characteristic. Cobb, Saito, and Arther are in the suit with the
necktie and Eames styled in a little less formal one. Ariadne is also in the middle length skirt, woman
suit top with her hair tide up and the formal, natural make up. This scene is the only scene that
Ariadne has her hair up do because, according to Nolan, later on the scene, there will be the zero
gravity sequence and they wouldn t have to think of how her hair will flow. (Nolan). All the costume
and make up are designed to be as close to the reality as possible to sustain the feeling of reality even
they re in the imagination. Lastly, another important part of mise en scene, is the props. It this scene
we can see a bed, that Fischer lays down after he sleep, chairs where Browning and Ariadne sits on,
the flowing curtain and the sleeping machine. Bed and chairs are the normal elements to have in the
scene placed in a room. The flowing curtain as we see is not actually the real curtain of that hotel
room. This room probably has a curtain but according to the other scenes, that flowing, white curtain
is the same one as the curtain in another hotel where Cobb s wife, Mal, suicides. It is the motion of the
curtain Cobb sees in the past, appears again in this scene, showing that how he loses

Canada Sex Workers Summary
The author describes the impending the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada on whether current
Canadian prostitution laws are putting female sex workers at risk for violence and murder. These laws
can change the ability to do sex work in Canada, as prostitution itself is not illegal but the Supreme
Court may direct certain bans if voted in. This paper reveals the laws are mainly aimed to protect
women against harm since a year before Robert Pickton murdered many female sex workers in British
Columbia. Then Fine s paper address policies about sex workers and if it is helping or violating
workers rights. Fine s article includes a diverse array of perspective on this issue, as he presents that

The Way Poets Present Ideas of Death and Loss in Mid Term Break, On the Train, On My First Sonne
and The Affliction of Margaret
Works Cited Missing
In the poems Mid Term Break by Seamus Heaney, On The Train by Gillian Clarke, On My First
Sonne by Ben Jonson and The Affliction of Margaret by William Wordsworth, all of the poets convey
a loss or death, experienced by either the poet themselves, or other people too. In Mid Term Break ,
Seamus Heaney experiences the loss of his younger brother (he is four years old: a four foot coffin, a
foot for every year ). In On The Train , Gillian Clarke writes about the Paddington rail crash, on 5th

He is reminded that he is the eldest, and as such is now treated more as a man than a child. The effect
of the death has a large effect on the family: In the porch I met my father crying this is ironic, as his
father had always taken funerals in his stride . The use of language adds to the effect of the poem:
wearing a poppy bruise on his left temple . Heaney uses the metaphor of a poppy marking the bruise
on his head because poppies are used to commemorate and respect those who have lost their lives in
conflict, and generally signify death and remembrance. Heaney starts off using simple language, and
the phrase: at ten o clock the ambulance arrived with the corpse, stanched and bandaged by nurses
suggests a detachment of Heaney, from the events, and helplessness as all that he can do is watch.
Simple language such as: corpse suggests an inability for Heaney to express his feelings, and is also
the first confirmation that we have of a death. The sentences and language used by Heaney soon
change from simple structures to that of a complex structure, representing the discovery of his feelings
towards the tragedy: Snowdrops and candles soothed the bedside; I saw him the first time in six weeks
this is an example of a complex sentence used by Heaney and also shows how he is addressing his
feelings.

Election Explanation Through Sociological Theories
Election Explanation through Sociological Theories The 2016 U.S Presidential Election ended on
November 19th, yet many people did not expect or even think about the result of Trump becoming our
45th president. Although many people in California did not accept the fact that our first female
candidate was defeated and lost the election, it is reasonable to explain some surprising observations
and results of the election by looking through the lens of sociological theories. 1. 63% of white men
and 53% of white women did not vote for Clinton. As our first female presidential candidate, it was
controversial towards her ability be competent to manage a country. Although many people are
pursuing gender equality in America, they still hold prejudices and discrimination towards women
because of their vulnerable image. It is not surprising that more than half of white men choose to vote
for Trump instead of Clinton by Christine Williams s concept of Glass ceiling glass escalator.
Williams argued that women in the United States face the predicament of Glass Ceiling, invisible
barriers that restrains their promotion in male dominated jobs. On contrary, men are considered to be
Glass Escalators in which they are push up in their professions by invisible pressures. (Williams )
Under this situation, an occupational segregation exists: women and men hold the same job title at an
individual establishment or company, but actually do different jobs. People generally

Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured...
Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured Accurately or Not
In this essay I will look at whether intelligence can be defined and measured accurately through
looking at various definitions of intelligence; including definitions from Binet, Wechsler, Terman,
Hebbs, Cattel and Vernon. I will discuss a selection of more well known and popular intelligence tests
ranging from Galton to Wechsler, what they measure and what they don t measure. I will look at an
example of a famous person renowned for being intelligent and what there IQ test result would likely
of been, if tested.
Starting with a definition from the oxford dictionary we can then go on to see how varied the
definitions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Terman (1921) describes intelligence as a person s ability of abstract thinking (1921, cited in Heim,
1970).
It seems that psychologists find it hard to reach an agreement to define intelligence, resulting in the
final definition I will mention from Vernon (1969) intelligence is what intelligence tests measure
(1969, cited in Howe, 1997).
Although most definitions seem to have a similarity, the meaning of intelligence can vary over time
and through cultures. It was once thought that intelligence was all down to a persons ability with
spelling and arithmetic, whereas in the islands of the south pacific a persons ability to navigate the
oceans and there spatial memory are the way to judge a persons intelligence level (MSN, 2005).
It seems a nomothetic approach is needed to even attempt to measure intelligence. All tests need to be
reliable, correlate with existing test scores and show face, internal and ecological validity (MSN,
2005).
Intelligence tests were developed to predict school children s eventual academic results (MSN, 2005).
In England in the 1880 s Galton made the first attempt at measuring intelligence. Galton s theory was
that a person with a good degree of intelligence would

Critical Pedagogy Analysis
In The Art of Critical Pedagogy, Jeffrey Duncan Andrade and Ernest Morrell provide vivid examples
on how critical pedagogy is beneficial for academic success amongst individuals of color. Critical
pedagogy is a multicultural form of teaching that is rooted in the essential experiences of marginalized
peoples; that is centered in a critique of structural, economic, and racial oppression; that is focused on
dialogue instead of a one way transmission of knowledge; and that is structured to empower
individuals and collectives as agents of social change . (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008, p. 49)
This style of teaching is essential within urban schools, as it provides students the opportunity to
establish critical intellectual and social skills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In comparison to canonical form of teaching, students begin to learn and appreciate the unique and
equally meaningful aspects of their culture (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Critical pedagoy that
has provided cultural relevance has led me to become a more engaged student. By reading Toni
Morrison s book, The Bluest Eye, I often found myself more intrigued in learning similar academic
pieces, as the characters often displayed cultural characteristic that were nearly identical to my
personal experiences. This teaching practice kept me engaged with the literature, allowing me to
perform higher academically. Similar to my experience, students of color that began to partake in
culturally relevant courses often endure a vast improvement of their intellectual performance. As a
result, many began to take Advanced Placement courses and were able to matriculate to four year
universities (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Not only does critical pedagogy allow for a deeper
understanding of the curriculum, it also provides critical thinking skills and intellectual resources that
are not often provided to students of

Who is the best player in the soccer forever? There are many great player throughout the history of

player in the soccer history whether they are retired or still playing. In my perspective, Pele is the
greatest player of soccer forever for several reasons: from difficult childhood to a great star, he scored
goals more than any player else throughout the history of soccer and he won three FIFA World so, the
only player ever to do this achievement. First, Edson Arantes Do Nascimento Pele was born on

A Capitalist Manifesto By Gary Wolfram
In A Capitalist Manifesto, Gary Wolfram provides an explanation of how free market systems work in
society and highlights their benefits compared to socialist economies. The first chapters of the book
are an introduction to microeconomics: how marginal analysis, supply, demand, market equilibrium,
opportunity cost, and profits work. According to him there are three fundamental advantages to a
market economy: it allocates resources efficiently, consumers determine wages and therefore income
distribution is fair, and finally it s the only method of organizing society that is consistent with
individual liberty. He explains that socialism is an economic system that is is unable to provide a
decent standard of living for people and that it cannot survive, giving as an example the fall of the Iron
Curtain. The reason is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He discredits the belief that in a free market the producers/business owners control the system and
dictate outcomes to consumers and laborers by saying that in a free market the consumers are king,
they are not forced to purchase a product, and they determine the price of products and the incomes of
owners of resources. Another misconception he debunks is that the market system is a fierce one of
survival at the expense of one s rival. On the contrary, he says markets are very cooperative systems
allowing for specialization of labor that is only possible based on cooperation. Another aspect I liked
is when he talks about the benefits of free trade and property rights in their role in promoting progress
throughout history. They provide incentives for invention and innovation. Overall I liked the book, the
chapters are short, straight to the point, and he uses some good examples to illustrate his point. It s
interesting to read about how everything works because we never stop to think about it: what affects
prices, inflation,

Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities Of The Prince And Lao...
Government: A Profound Leader
Since the being of time, humans have sought out law, or government. Governments have been set in
place all throughout the world to try to maintain peace and order. As easy as it sounds, governments
can be demolished without the right leader. However, that is the catch, what makes a good leader?
Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities of the Prince and Lao Tzu s Tao te Ching gives some ideas on
how a leader should control their government. Although Machiavelli s and Lao Tzu s ideas do not
quite go hand and hand, there are some similarities. They both spoke similarly on how people should
feel about their leader. Lao Tzu views one of the best qualities of a leader is being loved by his people.
On the other hand, Machiavelli believes the best is to be loved and feared, but sense he thinks that is
impossible he had rather just be feared. Machiavelli and Lao Tzu are more opposite than alike.
According to Machiavelli, war should be a profession of a prince. He suggested a prince to think about
war all the time and know the surroundings constantly. However, Lao Tzu suggests a leader not to
force war on anyone because the outcome will result in revenge and not to waste time preparing for
war. Also, they had different views on what to do with their money. Machiavelli insisted on saving his
income for preparation of war, whereas Lao Tzu believed in sharing his money throughout the people.
Although Machiavelli and Lao Tzu would probably get in

How Candidiasis Is A Fungal Infection Caused By Yeasts
Candidiasis: Overview and Causes
Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus Candida. There are at least
15 distinct Candida species that cause human disease, but 90% of invasive disease is caused by the 5
most common pathogens, C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis, and C. krusei with
candida albicans being the most prevalent.(Ostrosky Zeichner et al., 2015) Candida yeasts normally
reside in the intestinal tract and can be found on mucous membranes and skin without causing
infection; however, overgrowth of these organisms can cause symptoms to develop. Symptoms of
candidiasis vary depending on the area of the body that is infected.(CDC, 2016e)
The different types of Candidiasis are determined by the area of the body they affect. Oropharyngeal
candidiasis, otherwise known as Thrush, inhabits the buccal cavity or throat. Candidiasis of the vagina
is commonly referred to as a yeast infection. The most clinically significant version of candidiasis is
invasive candidiasis, which happens as a result of a candida species entering the bloodstream and
spreading throughout the body. Invasive candidiasis is primarily found in immunocompromised
patients such as those suffering from HIV, undergoing corticosteroid therapy, chemotherapy, or those
with diabetes.
Candidiasis: Signs and Symptoms and Sequelae
Thrush is relatively easy to recognise as white patches can be observed on the tongue and other oral
mucous membranes. Symptoms

Alexander The Great, The King Of Macedonia

Alexander the Great, the King of Macedonia, was born in July 356 BC in Pella, Macedonia. Alexander
was born around July 20, 356 B.C., in Pella, which was the administrative capital of Macedonia. His
father was often away, conquering neighboring territories and putting down revolts. Alexander showed
great aptitude as a child and one of his tutors was Aristotle, the famous Greek philosopher. at the age
of 16, Philip II decided to leave his son in charge of Macedonia while he was away on campaign. The

so also did he adapt new political and economic ways to suit the different cities of his empire. He

given to Macedonians, later he handled these positions to Persian. Taxation and finance remained in
the hands of Macedonian. In Asia superintendents of finance collected the taxes and remitted them to

Legal Drinking Age Essay
For many of the generations living today, the legal drinking age has always been set at twenty one. In
the 1980 s, it rose from eighteen to twenty one in an attempt to reduce the amount of underage drunk
driving accidents. The number of traffic fatalities has significantly declined over the past few decades.
However, many would argue that the law has spawned many new problems as well, such as an
increase in alcohol poisoning deaths and binge drinking.
As previously stated, the primary reason for adjustment to the legal drinking age was to address the
preposterous number of drunk driving accidents. The United States has experienced a decline in all
age groups over the last 25 years and for that, the law has been a success. Although these statistics are
encouraging, one must also wonder if more has contributed to this decline than the law itself. 1984
was a completely different time period. Since then, airbags have become a mandatory component of
every car, and laws requiring that a seat belt must be worn are enforced in most states, reducing the
impact if one was to ever be involved in a crash. In addition to the features inside of the ... Show more

impossible to know for certain whether the decline in alcohol related traffic fatalities was seen because
of the change in legal age or not until both sides of the argument are tested and proved. However, a
higher legal age has not reduced drinking, but has driven it underground, establishing a new problem
for the country to consider instead. The problems we are facing today are vastly different than those of

Outsourcing Of The American Dream
As more and more students graduate, they begin to look for work; hoping for a job capable of paying
off their debts and making their chosen degree worthwhile. In America, we are running into the
problem of a lack of jobs, requiring a degree or not. From service jobs to white collar jobs, ...more
than 14 million jobs are vulnerable to being outsources offshore. (Roberts).College graduates that are
native to America are struggling to find work due to the outsourcing of jobs, in turn damaging our
economy. It is common sense that the more jobs we give away, the less jobs there will be for newly
college graduates to work. Although they were once known as the jobs of the American Dream , they
are now simply not American. Outsourcing used to not worry me, because I thought the jobs that were
outsourced were the minimum wage, labor required jobs but I was wrong. These are not only call
center operators, customer service and back office jobs, but also information technology, accounting,
architecture.....etc. (Roberts). It used to be that if you spent the time and money to earn a degree, you
would almost be guaranteed a job. Now days, even the jobs that require 4+ years of school are being
sent overseas, leaving no hope for the new generations entering our work force. Not only is this
outsourcing causing companies to lose their best employees, but also the consumers that buy their
products. Employees displaced by foreigners and left unemployed or in lower paid work have

Myth Of The Ant Queen Analysis
Establishing nonhierarchical roles within a system is often debated as an efficient method for internal
innovation and stability. In Steve Johnson s essay Myth of the Ant Queen, Johnson describes a
phenomena known as emergent behavior, large patterns of uncoordinated local actions which is
prevalent in systems with nonhierarchial roles (199). The concept of emergent behavior is a useful,
however inaccurate, means of categorizing a system s structure; a self organizing system must have
some origin or initial degree of coordination or organization in order to properly function.
Furthermore, Cathy Davidson s essay Project Classroom Makeover, challenges the current educational
paradigm with an administrative and societal call to action through the iPod experiment. ... Show more

of emergent behavior because of educators and not the students , abilities to maintain and regulate the

A system s self organizing facade oftentimes disguises its ulterior motive of self preservation as a
form of emergent behavior. In Johnson s essay, he observes an ant colony that appears to think and
function in a nonhierarchial, self organizing format to serve their queen ant. However, the colony

Examples Of Realism In Daisy Miller
Psychological Realism in Daisy Miller
Written by Henry James, Daisy Miller is a novella that first appeared in Cornhill magazine in 1878
and later published in 1879. The novella narrates the courtship of a young beautiful American girl
called Daisy Miller by Winterbourne, a sophisticated young American turned European man, whose
efforts to win her heart has been derailed by Daisy Miller s flirtatiousness and care free life, which has
been frowned upon by the community in Geneva and Rome. This fictional story shows a noticeable
change from social realism to psychological realism, which is regarded as more nuanced (Cokal). This
worldwide trend was evidently in the literature of America during this time, which also marched with
an incursion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And while the author chooses the protagonist s name to be the title of his novella, he makes
Winterbourne be the first person narrator. While this is undeniable, it is true that Daisy has been
psychologized and that the function of the girl Daisy is to act as a plot device and a representation of
the American innocence in Europe. According to Ohmann, James began writing with one attitude
towards his heroine and concluded with a second and different attitude towards her (2). What Ohmann
is trying to say is that Daisy is depicted as an innocent, flirtatious young woman, mostly unmindful of
her society s degree of judgment, which is a reflection of an emerging American class. In his
description of Daisy Miller novella, Johnson states that a compelling feminist counter narrative of
American womanhood defined by freedom despite social constraints (41). In the text, it is evident that
while the characters of female gender are still confined within particular social confinement and Daisy
is punished with death. Johnson adds that her moments of defiance linger long after the sting of her
death subsides. ( 42) This is witnessed long after Daisy s death when Fredrick Winterbourne comes to
the realization that he had done her injustice (James 83) because he had lived too long in foreign parts

Great Depression And The Great Recession
The Great Depression and the Great Recession are two of the darkest times in American history. There
is much debate about the cause of the Great Depression and how it differed from the cause of the
Great Recession. Many people believe that the stock market crash of 1929 played a major role the
Great Depression. On the other hand, the stock market crash of 2008 drove America into the Great
Recession. The causes of stock market crashes are often unforeseen, but many have detectable
indicators. There are many differences between the 1929 stock market crash and the 2008 stock
market crash, but we can learn more from the similarities between the two. The credit boom of the
1920 s is one of the things that contributed most to the stock market crash on 1929 and then the
eventual cause of the Great Depression. We find that the credit boom view provides a useful
perspective on both the boom of the 1920s and the subsequent slump. In particular, it directs attention
to the role played by the structure of the financial sector and the interaction of finance and innovation.
(Eichengreen) As many people know today, having a credit card and going shopping without realizing
exactly how a credit card works can put the user in a tough situation. After a person puts something on
credit they must pay it back at a later date. In the 1920 s the credit boom was where people had started
to use credit more frequently and were getting carried away with the idea of credit. People putting

Friendships are important to keep you going in life In Australia 1965 the Vietnamese war was going

The Impact Of Multiculturalism In Canada
Multiculturalism is the act of giving equivalent consideration regarding various foundations in a
specific setting, and it can happen when a purview is made or extended by amalgamating zones with
two or more diverse societies or through migration from various locales around the globe.
Multiculturalism that seeks in keeping up the peculiarity of numerous societies is regularly
differentiated to other settlement arrangements, for example, social mix, social osmosis, and racial
isolation. Multiculturalism has been depicted as a salad bowl and cultural mosaic (Burgess, et al.
2005). In spite of the way that multiculturalism has predominantly been utilized as a term to
characterize distraught gatherings, numerous scholars tend to center their contentions on outsiders
who are ethnic and religious minorities, minority countries, and indigenous people groups. The term
multiculturalism is frequently utilized as a part of a reference to Western country states, which ...

by supporting legal immigration of people from various parts of the world into the country. By

Franchising Is A Major Driver Of Business Development And...
Franchising
According to Hill, Jones, and Schilling (2015), franchising is a strategy in which the franchisor or the
founding company grants the franchisees, the purchasing company, the right to use the franchisor s
name, reputation, and business model in return for a franchise fee and often a percentage fee and often
a percentage of the profit. The business must operate under strict guidelines, follow the rules,
regulations, and standards given by the founding franchisors (Hill, et al 2015, p. 182). This creates a
business relationship between the two. According to Ribeiro, D., Akehurst, G. P. (2014) franchising
has become a major driver of business development and franchisor brand equity is a critical factor
with a clear impact on the perception and behavior of the franchise. Franchises brings together
independent companies and establish agreements between two parties.
Requirement to become a franchise
Hill, et al, (2015), states that typically, franchisees must adhere to some strict rules which governs how
to do business. The franchisor requires them to take the same basic business model and run in a certain
manner. They must have the same basic look, operate in a certain way, feel, offering, pricing and
business processes as other. The founding business assists the franchisee and typically receives a
percentage of the revenues (Hill, et al 2015, p. 182).
On the other Ribeiro, et al (2014), believes that in order for a franchisee to commence first, there is a

Killing Reagan By Bill O Reilly And Martin Dugard
Killing Reagan was wrote by Bill O Reilly and Martin Dugard as a part of their series to talk about the
deaths, assassination, and near deaths of certain historical people. O Reilly and Dugard write about the
events leading up to the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan including discussing the attempted
assassin, John Hinckley, and the events after up until his death. The authors present the viewpoint as if
one were there to witness the lives of the people in the book. Killing Reagan talks about the politics
during Reagan s life and presidency to tell about who Ronald Reagan was and his ideas that
influenced a presidency. Some things a reader may want to know before starting this book is a basic
idea of the events and politics of the twentieth century, especially those after WWII. Overall, it is easy
for just about anyone to understand.
Killing Reagan starts the prologue with the sentence The man who has one minute to live is no longer
confused (O Reilly and Dugard 1) as he discusses who is in the room with him, including his two kids,
Ron and Patti, and his wife, Nancy Reagan. The authors also talk about what caused his death,
dementia that started ten years ago that caused him to not make a public appearance in that time
period. The authors go into the first chapter discussing the winning debate that probably gave him the
presidency that happened a week before the election. The authors then talk about how former
President Carter won past debates against Gerald R.

Roman Catholic Research Paper
Roman Catholicism is headed by the pope. For the first 1,500 years of Christianity, there wasn t any
type of Catholicism. Common traditions, beliefs, and worship were the body of Christian believers
around the world which is how they were all united; if you were a Christian, you belonged to a
catholic church. Any other type of beliefs was considered treachery to the Christianity belief. In our
time, there are multiple forms of Christianity besides Roman Catholicism. Being a catholic in this time
means that one has certain beliefs, practices, and traditions compared to those of Protestantism,
Anglicanism, Greek Orthodox, and all the other various types of Christianity. Roman Catholicism is
considered to be the largest group out of them all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of practice links back to the papacy s connections with monasticism. The Jesuits,
Dominicans, Franciscans, and the Augustinians are several of the Catholic monastic orders with them
being the most known. Roman Catholicism links back to the age of the apostles, especially with one
figure Peter. St. Peter. This individual was considered the first pope and every pope after him was
considered his spiritual successor. Centuries later, the church we know today, Roman Catholic Church
was created with its doctrines and practices. Non Catholics consider this church as, having corrupted
the original message of Christianity. (religionfacts, 2016) while from a catholic perspective, the early
church is faithfully continued in the developments of later centuries. (religionfacts, 2016). By
historian notes the Roman bishop Leo the first was considered the first pope. The reason being was
due to the fact that he was the first to claim authority over all of Christendom. Apparently in his

The Internet History, Development And Forecast
Homework Assignment #1
Name: Suraj Bhatia
Subject: TELE5330 15890 Data networking
Topic: The Internet History, Development and Forecast by Dr. Leonard Kleinrock
Internet. Interconnection of networks. But it s the former term millions of users use for probably the
greatest invention in the field of technology. Well, that s my opinion. After viewing Dr. Leonard
Kleinrock s speech on The Internet History, Development and Forecast at Infocom 2006, it was really
hard to believe that it took almost a decade for people then to realize its importance. As mentioned in
his speech, though the ground work for Internet was initiated in 1957, it was not till 1966 that ARPA
needed an Internet like network for their functioning. It is quite unimaginable to think of today s world
without having access to the Internet. People are connected to the Internet for accessing their
professional and social content while organizations may have their entire foundation built on it. It is
definitely worth looking into something this huge and important, discussing its history, assessing the
present and preparing for its future. In the next two paragraphs, on the basis of Dr. Klienrock s
presentation I have discussed the impact, be it good or bad, right or wrong the Internet has had on the
way our daily business is conducted.
I like the way Dr. Klienrock has put it, It is the people and the culture that has kept the Internet going
on . He has stated many positives, so let s discuss each one with an

Ragtime Essay
Present in the different novels of E.L. Doctorow are many themes, ranging from the impact of
technology on society to the drastic effects of war. All of his books have something in common: the
prevalence of the American dream. The United States of America was founded around the fact that
anybody can come here and succeed with the right amount of effort. Ironically, the people that praise
the United States oppress blacks and other minorities so that they cannot succeed. In E.L. Doctorow s
Ragtime, Booker T. Washington advocates the abandonment of the pursuit of the American dream by
illustrating the sacrifices that many African Americans were willing to make to obtain racial peace.
The famous, black, nineteenth century politician Booker T. Washington plays a large role in Ragtime.
An actual quote from Washington in 1894 reads that he was indeed willing to give up the demand for
racial equality as well as political and civil rights in order to achieve the dream of racial peace.
Washington advocated that something had to be exchanged for racial harmony. Although Washington
clashed with other civil rights activists such as W.E.B. Dubois, and seemingly accepted segregation,
he was nonetheless recognized for his movement to promote racial peace among African Americans.
The foremost black educator and institution builder of his time was completely willing to have blacks
remain subordinate to

Do Connections With Buy-Side Analyst Research Analysis

further investigate the flow of information between buy and sell side analysts (SSAs). Brown et al
(2016) found that 55.10% of BSAs have conversations with SSAs more than 24 time per year. Clearly,
this frequency of private communication is interesting as it suggests that the flow of private
information flows both ways, rather than just to BSAs from SSAs. The methodology employed by the
authors is the first attempt to empirically formalise this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a BSA is covering 20 stocks and communicating approximately 30 times per year is the effect as
pronounced as it was found to be in Table 3? 30 conversations for 20 stocks, likely with a range of
SSAs at a few research houses does not necessarily build strong relationships that would induce
private information sharing. It may be valuable to adjust for industry. SSAs in oil and gas are likely
more valuable to BSAs due to their expert knowledge required, or in the opposite case some funds
directly hire former staff members of their largest holdings in order to inform their modelling and
competitor modelling. Exploring industries with more niche or complex systems could be valuable to
remove the aggregated effect. Construct Validity As noted previously the construct validity of their
primary contribution is questionable but it is the first to attempt to define a publicly unobservable
relationship. The major issue is that the 13F reports only indicate what actually went into the portfolio
whereas the most value a SSA adds to the BSA investment process is before the stock enters the
portfolio. Although the authors are primarily focused on the BSA to SSA information flow, without
adequately capturing the nature of the relationship at the most important phase the results are likely to
be misrepresentative. Similarly, the CONNECTION term focuses on information swapped about a
single stock. However, in reality, it may be the case that the

Examples Of Unsung Heroes Of American Revolution
American Revolution: Unsung Heroes of Independence We hold these truths to be self evident: that all
men and women are created equal. (Elizabeth Cady Stanton, 1848). During the American Revolution,
America went from being an extension of Britain (and a source of revenue when needed) to an
independent nation built upon the grecian idea of democracy. When people hear the names George
Washington, Benjamin Franklin, or Thomas Jefferson, they easily connect them to the capable leaders
and revolutionary heroes who made great contributions during America s delicate infancy. These men,
along with countless others, fought for the end of the monopolization Britain held over the colonies
and undyingly laid down their lives for the pursuit of freedom. However, do the names Deborah
Sampson, Peter Salem, or Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben ring a bell? Women, people of color, and
Europeans from all different walks of life were also swept up in the war for independence. The war
did not feature people of one gender, race, or nationality. These individuals were in the flesh for all of
these historical events, but, at the best, get a sentence in the history books taught in school

The qualitative research approach aims to have a greater understanding on a specific problem by
focusing on small sample and non statistical data analysis. However, the quantitative research
approach focuses on the measurement and analysing the data in a statistical way. Furthermore,
qualitative research is more likely to ask open question which is different from close question that

Analysis Of Paris Is Burning
COMPARISON OF PARIS IS BURNING AND HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE
Ava Morrow
History 3220
The United States in the 20th Century
November 13, 2017 Beginning in the mid 1980 s, a number of efforts were initiated to bring
awareness and enlightenment to the actual tragedy of AIDS. Two films that evolved out of these
awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both
films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of LGBT
people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two documentaries
demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings of acceptance or at
least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles.
The movie Paris Is Burning is a documentary film exploring race, gender, and sexuality within the
African American and Latino gay and transgender communities of the ball culture of New York in the
mid to late 1980 s. Ball culture is a term used to describe the underground sub culture of LGBT people
who walk or compete for trophies in events known as balls. The film chronicles the ostentatiously
arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk while being
judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing ability. Much
of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent members of this
drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied methods of
expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty, and
homophobia.
How to Survive a Plague is a documentary movie which depicts the early years of the AIDS epidemic
and the efforts of ACT UP and other groups. ACT UP, founded in March 1987, is an advocacy group
which supports legislation and medical research and treatment of AIDS victims. The film used
archived footage of news coverage, interviews, protests, meetings, and conferences to chronicle the
struggles of AIDS activists from the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in New York City. It focused on
the efforts of these activists to obtain meaningful responses from medical

continue his own father s legacy. Kim Jong Un has managed to successfully take complete control of
North Korea just like his past family members who have been in power. At age 32 the supreme leader
happens to own the longest list of honorifics anywhere, in which every single one of them is unearned,
and is also most likely the last hereditary male in power. Kim is the third and youngest son of his
father, and the second born son of Kim II s second mistress, Ko Young Hee. His grandfather, Kim Il
Sung, ruled for 46 years, with Kim Jong Il, his son, taking over after his death in 1994. Kim Jong Un
took power after his father s death in 2011, in which he was favored for by his father. Kim Jong Un
has two older brothers, named Kim Jong Chul and Kim Jong Nam, who should ve been next in line,
but weren t when their father decided to not make either one supreme leader because they were too
feminine in character , while Jong un was exactly like his father . Around the same time he took
power, he got married, in an arranged marriage, to a woman named, Ri Sol Ju, who is a former
cheerleader and singer. Mrs. Kim is seen a lot with her husband in public. (unlike his

Plavix Case Study Essay
Patent Games: Plavix Case Study
Columbia Southern University
Abstract
This case study illustrates the conflict between patent protection and preserving a pure competitive
market. Pharmaceutical companies are granted patent rights to newly developed drugs for a limited
amount of time. Through legal means they are able to form monopolies and maximize their profits. a
parent company can move to delay the release of its generic comparison through legal and illegal
measures. In the following case Bristol Myers Squibb fell victim to their own anti competitive
practices.

Sherman s strategy
Bristol Myers Squibb s deceptive practices were likely to catch up to them. This occurred when they
crossed paths with Sherman who led Apotex at the time. After everything settled Sherman
acknowledged in an interview that he knew the FTC would reject the proposed agreements made by
Bristol Myers Squibb and Sanofi. He also recognized that their spokesman didn t realize his offer
would cause adverse action against Bristol Myers Squibb (Baron, 2010). He played to their ignorance
and entered the agreement. There is no direct answer to the ethics of Sherman s strategy. He did not
actively participate or even condone Brisol Myers Squibb s collusion; in fact he knew the agreement
would be rejected. There is no way of truly knowing whether Sherman acted with malice when
implementing his strategy.
Should the FTC and the state attorneys general have rejected the agreements? The FTC and state
attorney was right in rejecting Brisol Myers Squibb s proposed agreements on the grounds that it is an
anti competitive practice. The second agreement would have been rejected as well provided Bristol
Myers Squibb was completely honest with the FTC. Upon submission of the second agreement to the
department of justice they affirmed under oath that all agreements were as listed on the document with
no side arrangements (Chen, 2011). After the initiation of an investigation conducted by the Federal
Bureau of Investigations

Essay on Dupont Divestiture
DuPont s Divestiture of Conoco | Analysis of the Merger | |
DuPont began life in 1802, as a gunpowder manufacturer supplying the US Army under President
Thomas Jefferson. The company had a long tradition of technological innovations in business and it
continues to serve worldwide markets including food and nutrition; health care; agriculture; fashion
and apparel; home and construction; and electronics. Among some of its inventions are nylon
stockings invented in 1939, Teflon for pans, Kevlar for bullet proof vests, stainmaster for carpets, the
synthetic fabric lycra, and Dacron for clothing. In 1999 the company held a portfolio of 2000
trademarks and brands. DuPont was the 15th largest company in the US with its 1998 revenue ...

In order to make the second stage completely tax free DuPont had to satisfy a number of IRS rules and
regulations. These rules stated that DuPont had to control Conoco immediately before the split off,
meaning that it had to control at least 80% of Conoco s stock. In addition the split had to be motivated
by a valid business purpose. Also DuPont had to get rid of all Conoco stock so it would not have any
control over the company after the deal was completed. Conoco had to be recapitalized or reorganized
into two classes of common stock. Class A stock that carried one vote each, issued to the public and
Class B stock with five votes each, retained by DuPont for later disbursement to DuPont shareholders
in the exchange offer. Prior to the IPO, Conoco would have to issue a $7.5 billion promissory note to
DuPont as a dividend. The payment would be tax free to both parties because at the time DuPont
owned all of Conoco. Conoco would in turn, use the proceeds to pay back part of the note and other
intercompany notes with DuPont.
While I do agree with the Chief Operating Officer that a 100% IP of Conoco would raise a significant
amount of cash to use in our core business growth internationally, allowing us to expand our global
operations. I think the equity care out

Historical Significance Of Mate Selection
Everyone who has ever lived, has an idea of certain things they would like to accomplish. For those
people who live in the United States, these accomplishment seem common: Earn an education, find a
mate, marry the mate, and have kids. Alongside these are the jobs, homes, cars, etc. However, one of
the hardest accomplishments that face the generations of today is the mate selection process. With
times that are changing and becoming fast paced, the idea of individual sexuality, and the evolution of
social media, mate selection is a tough task. The goal of this (paper) is to identify the historical
significance of mate selection and how social media is affecting one s ability to select a mate (good or
bad). What is mate selection? It is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These parental arrangements have been more popular by way of the number of societies who
participate in mate selection processes. Surviving throughout time, the idea and concept of arranged
marriages have dealt with the test of time. It is only recent, claims Balswick and Balswick, mate
selection is and individual matter, only depending on the two individuals involved. Thus creating a
new idea and wave of mate selection. With this idea of individual selection of mate; it involves a more
romantic and pre marital status. The idea of love and meeting suitable mate has been changing over
the years. Beginning with arranged marriages between two families then pivoting to an idea of
working for the suitable mate (Jacob and Rachel), the idea of courtship and chivalry in the medieval
times, and now a romantic view on seeking and finding suitable mates. With the ever changing idea of
the search, note each change is due, in large part, to the society/culture it is surrounded by. The idea of
romanticism playing part in the mate selection process is not new. Societies have been practicing this
idea, but in cooperation with its own arrangements . Many families allowed the arranged couple to
court before pulling the trigger on the marriage. Romantic love searches are more popularized by the
western culture, mainly America.

The Gift Of The Magi Essay
The Gift of the Magi
The Gift of the Magi is a short story about a young, less fortunate couple. Christmas is around the
corner, and Della is concerned about what to get for her cherished husband. She has been saving up
for months. Yet she only has 1.78 dollars. This puts her in a dilemma. She wants to get him something
honorable, but 1.78 dollars does not go very far. Sitting by the mirror, looking at her long brown hair.
Her hair was one of the two greatest treasures the couple had. The other treasure was Jim s watch,
which had a leather strap in replace of a chain. To afford Jim s present, she cut off her hair and sold it.
Later in the evening when Jim comes home, he is quite surprised to find his wife having cut off her
long precious hair. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While following her we get to see her points of view and access her thoughts. Besides describing
Della s actions and thoughts the narrator also has some observations regarding what is around her. In
some occations he talks directly to the reader. He uses a great deal of extra sentences to give the reader
a better feeling of what is going on. In reality the purpose of this story could be put in a shorter
context as it has an actual clear message. The title is corresponding to the content in the story. It also
has a symbolic meaning to it. The Magi is refering to the three wise men in the Bible. The three wise
men come baring gifts to the baby Jesus, which are concidered great gifts. In the three last sentences
we see a comparison between the story and the Bible. Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they
are the wisest. Everywhere they are the wisest. They are the Magi. Also the narrator mentions King
Solomon when describing the value of Jim s watch. This indicates that Jim and Della chose wisely
when giving each other presents and found something of value to the other. They gave each other the
greatest gift of all, which according to the narrator makes them just like the

Summary Of The Movie Neanderthal
I think the movie did portray the neanderthals abilities realistically. When Charlie made fire, used
stone tools for his benefit, and hunted for small game in his habitat it showed a strongly realistic
perception of him. When looking at archaeological evidence, we see that Neanderthals could carry out
these duties and this is how they survived. Another time Charlie was perceived realistically was when
he adapted to his new environment so quickly. A neanderthal s frontal lobe shows some of the first
signs of advancement among early hominins. With this being said, Charlie figured out quickly how to
hunt game, communicate with Shepherd, and how to make fire in his new setting. Neandertals had to
have been skilled hunters. These findings are part of a growing body of literature that suggests
Neandertal subsistence behavior was more complex than previously thought (Wong, 2000). In the
movie, Shepherd questions if Charlie could interact socially with him and somewhat understand his
english. Charlie does a great job of showing social communication to Shepherd. He has his own kind
of language, which they interpret and understand what he is saying. Charlie also shows signs of
understanding what Shepherd says to him. When he told him no, Charlie kind of turns away or gets
upset as if he knew what no meant. When they realize Charlie is asking where his children are, he
draws children in the dirt. This proved that Charlie had potential for living among humans today.

Grievances Of The Declaration Of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written to declare that America would be free and that it would
no longer be under the rule of King George III. The declaration has a total of twenty seven grievances
which are complaints towards the King and the government of Britain. One of the many grievances
stated in the declaration is that He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the
Consent of our legislature . This whole process began towards the beginning of 1763. After the Seven
Years War ended in February 1763, the king did not withdraw the British troops from America.
Instead, he left a lot of the troops in America forcing the colonists to house and support them.
According to colonialhall.com, the troops stayed in America in order to enforce the laws; especially
with the new taxes that were about to take place. Although the troops did help by protecting colonists
and enforcing the laws, it was unnecessary for them to stay. The colonists knew how to defend
themselves so there was really no reason for this. It seemed that the King did this, not just to enforce
laws, but also to make them fearful so that they would surrender to him. Although the Kings intentions
were to get the colonists to appease to him, that did not happen. This only made the colonists fear that
they would lose all their rights and it made them angry with the King. Jefferson wrote that if the King
did indeed have the right to keep standing armies in the colonies during times of

The War Without The Culper Spy Ring
Espionage means nothing if no one can get the information obtained by informants. So, the Culper
Ring had to come up with secretive, yet effective ways to quickly transmit information to General
Washington. Their techniques evolved over time and in response to problems, and could only be so
secure, as time was of the essence for encoding, sending, and decoding each message, and they were
extremely important, according to Brian Kilmeade, who claims that historian Morton Pennypacker
knew the Americans would not have won the Revolutionary War without the Culper Spy Ring
(Kilmeade and Yaegers, preface). However, despite these innate, as well as the unforeseen problems,
they still succeeded in sending messages through two kinds of encoding. ... Show more content on

For the beginning of the Culper Ring, Caleb Brewster was a perfect person for that job. He even
offered extra benefits by not only have enthusiastically agreed to ferry messages to Connecticut [but]
even offered to add his own observations to the reports headed to Tallmadge (Kilmeade and Yaeger
56). Some time later, as the Culper Ring grew, they gained another asset that offered similar services
to Brewster. Robert Townsend has joined as a courier, to Washington s great delight. He offered
benefits of being a courier that would follow the route from Manhattan to Connecticut, which passed
through Brooklyn. Brooklyn was a place Washington knew the British valued highly, so any
information that could be ascertained from his courier spying passing through would be very valuable.
However, this method was not without it s downfalls, the most obvious being that the courier was not
like an encoded message, they could be easily found and searched either as a regular part of British
security efforts or as a targeted person. This was avoided by the courier about as much as it could be.
Woodhull even found himself favoring the lower risk route of the Brooklyn ferry as he once again
began making his regular trips after his recruitment (Kilmeade and Yaegers 45). Just such a thing
happened when a message written by Washington was intercepted before getting to Tallmadge. The
message had many red flags for the British. It referenced a particular, special liquid. ... [and]

Owl Research Papers
For many people, birds are seen to either be pets or wild animals. There is a massive amount of
species when it comes to learning about birds. One of the birds that I decided to do my research paper
on is Owls. The way I describe an owl is a type of bird that has a round head and large eyes, but there
are plenty more ways to describe an owl which is the purpose of this paper. An interesting fact about
owls is that they cannot move their eyes within their sockets like we can. In order to look around, they
have to move their entire head, which has a range of movement of about 270°. Which many people
find creepy and are scared of them. Owls usually fly and hunt at night, so are known to be nocturnal
birds. They eat mice, other small animals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The smallest species is the tiny elf owl, measuring about 6 inches long, that live in western Mexico
and the Southwestern United States. The largest species is the great gray owl that lives deep in woods
of Alaska and Canada as far north as trees grow. Gray owls grow to about 30 inches long. Now that I
have provided general information about the owl it brings me to the part where I talk about their role
in the environment especially in Sequoia National Forest. First and Foremost, we need to address how
there is a couple type of species of owls in Sequoia National Forest. One of them is the spotted owl
which is considered to be the native resident in this forest. The other two types of owls are the
northern pygmy owl which is a small owl native to North and Central America. There is also the
western screech owl which is as well a small owl native to North and Central America, and the
females of the species are also larger than the males. In the article titled Population Dynamics of
Spotted Owls in the Sierra Nevada, California, we are presented with a study to see the dynamics of
how spotted owls are populated around the Sierra Nevada where Sequoia National Forest is located at.
The article conducts a meta analysis of population data for 4

Soil Analysis Lab
Hypothesis
The more silt soil contains gives a longer water holding capacity for the soil and the more clay it
contains gives a shorter water holding capacity.
Procedure I
Take separate samples of humus and forest ground soil and place into cups. Using spray bottle filled
with water, take a handful of soil into your hand and mist it with water. Squeeze the samples and try to
form it into a ball or a ribbon and determine its texture. Afterwards, do the same test again and
determine the consistence and observe the soil structure.
Questions
Considering the samples analyzed, the relationship between texture and consistence varies directly
because larger particles may affect the texture to the point where it is rough and the opposite when the

Clay generally has a much higher water holding capacity than that of silt or sand because the particle
size of the clay is much smaller allowing much less water to escape. Sand, in comparison, has very
large particles which creates space that the water very easily flows out of.
Procedure V
Use the same procedure as described before to prepare the fresh columns of soil and humus. Weigh the
columns of dry soil and humus. First, using the forest soil, use twist ties to suspend the dry columns
and the water saturated columns from the previous day in plastic vials. Put 10 mL of water in the 60 cc
cup. Record how long it takes for the first drop of water to come out the bottom to the column. Watch
until there is no more water standing on top of the column. Do this for the dry forest soil and humus.
Repeat with the wet soil column.
Question
In chart. The relationship between particle size and percolation rate is that the smaller the particle size,
the lower the percolation rate. the high permeability of wet sand and the low permeability of wet clay.
Rain on sandy soil will be quickly absorbed, while rain on clay will be more likely to run off.
Therefore, the ditch at the bottom of the clay soil field would be more likely to

Essay on Setting in Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle
Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle
Nature has a powerful way of portraying good vs. bad, which parallels to the same concept
intertwined with human nature. In the story Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle, the author portrays
this through the use of a lake by demonstrating its significance and relationship to the characters. At
one time, the Greasy Lake was something of beauty and cleanliness, but then came to be the exact
opposite. Through his writing, Boyle demonstrates how the setting can be a direct reflection of the
characters and the experiences they encounter.
The lake itself plays a major role throughout the story, as it mirrors the characters almost exactly. For
example, the lake is described as being fetid and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is ironic that not only is the lake named Greasy Lake, but the individuals who hang out there are
also referred to as being greasy characters as well. The 3 main characters find themselves surrounded
by dangerous characters, and get stuck in the middle of a huge fight. As if things aren t bad enough,
the main characters then attempt to rape a girl that is with the man they just fought. Very soon after
more people show up ready to join in the deviant behavior, all while in the presence of this dirty,
disgusting lake. I d struck down one greasy character, and blundered into the waterlogged carcass of a
second (128). No matter what the main characters do, or how they react to the conflicts presented,
they constantly find themselves in the presence of more greasy characters at the greasy lake.
The author also makes a connection between the lake and the characters in his use of the word nature.
Fairly early in the story Boyle explains that the characters go to the lake to plunge into the festering
murk, drink beer, smoke pot, howl at the stars which again shows us the connection between the
disgusting lake and the deviant teen boys. (125). Boyle then concludes the paragraph by saying, This
was nature, which describes the attitudes and behaviors of the teenagers that go to the lake (125). Yet

  • 2. Pursuit Of Happiness Movie Analysis The film The Pursuit of Happyness has a wide range of social problems that included and has an affect on society. The main character Chris a pharmaceutical representative who is having trouble selling his product. Without selling his product he is unable to support his family and is out of a job. After becoming homeless, he finds an internship that could possibly turn into a job. He eventually is hired by the firm and is able to support his son who kept him going because he had someone who believed and counted on him to do what he needed to get done. When Chris tried to sell his bone density scanners and the doctors who would be interested in buying the product had already spent the maximum amount of money on products that are similar. He had to continue to sell his product and try to make money. Not everyone would have enough money to be able to support their family. Anna Leon Guerrero explained, In 2013 families with a female householder and no spouse present were more likely to be poor than were families with male householder and snow spouse present, 30.6% versus 15.9% (Anna Leon Guerrero, pg 39). Those who are working females tend to not make as much money as a working male would. Which would show that women are treated differently due to other not thinking females can handle certain roles that are typically known as a man s job. While Chris was not able to make ends meet he had been evicted from his apartment and could not afford to buy a nutritious meal for both him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Inception- Mise-En-Scene Mise en scene The scene that is going to be analyzing in this part is the scene in the second dimension of the dream. In the other word, the scene in the hotel or Arther s dream. Mise en scene will covered many details in the shot for example, setting, lighting, character casts with their performance style, costume and make up, and the props that is using in the shot. This analysis will involve only the part where all of characters are in the same room, before they are going down into the deeper dream. Mr. Charlse (Cobb) and his team should look really formal, credible and professional so they are wearing the suits adjusting with each characteristic. Cobb, Saito, and Arther are in the suit with the necktie and Eames styled in a little less formal one. Ariadne is also in the middle length skirt, woman suit top with her hair tide up and the formal, natural make up. This scene is the only scene that Ariadne has her hair up do because, according to Nolan, later on the scene, there will be the zero gravity sequence and they wouldn t have to think of how her hair will flow. (Nolan). All the costume and make up are designed to be as close to the reality as possible to sustain the feeling of reality even they re in the imagination. Lastly, another important part of mise en scene, is the props. It this scene we can see a bed, that Fischer lays down after he sleep, chairs where Browning and Ariadne sits on, the flowing curtain and the sleeping machine. Bed and chairs are the normal elements to have in the scene placed in a room. The flowing curtain as we see is not actually the real curtain of that hotel room. This room probably has a curtain but according to the other scenes, that flowing, white curtain is the same one as the curtain in another hotel where Cobb s wife, Mal, suicides. It is the motion of the curtain Cobb sees in the past, appears again in this scene, showing that how he loses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Way Poets Present Ideas of Death and Loss in Mid-Term... The Way Poets Present Ideas of Death and Loss in Mid Term Break, On the Train, On My First Sonne and The Affliction of Margaret Works Cited Missing In the poems Mid Term Break by Seamus Heaney, On The Train by Gillian Clarke, On My First Sonne by Ben Jonson and The Affliction of Margaret by William Wordsworth, all of the poets convey a loss or death, experienced by either the poet themselves, or other people too. In Mid Term Break , Seamus Heaney experiences the loss of his younger brother (he is four years old: a four foot coffin, a foot for every year ). In On The Train , Gillian Clarke writes about the Paddington rail crash, on 5th October 1999 in which 31 people were killed and over 500 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is reminded that he is the eldest, and as such is now treated more as a man than a child. The effect of the death has a large effect on the family: In the porch I met my father crying this is ironic, as his father had always taken funerals in his stride . The use of language adds to the effect of the poem: wearing a poppy bruise on his left temple . Heaney uses the metaphor of a poppy marking the bruise on his head because poppies are used to commemorate and respect those who have lost their lives in conflict, and generally signify death and remembrance. Heaney starts off using simple language, and the phrase: at ten o clock the ambulance arrived with the corpse, stanched and bandaged by nurses suggests a detachment of Heaney, from the events, and helplessness as all that he can do is watch. Simple language such as: corpse suggests an inability for Heaney to express his feelings, and is also the first confirmation that we have of a death. The sentences and language used by Heaney soon change from simple structures to that of a complex structure, representing the discovery of his feelings towards the tragedy: Snowdrops and candles soothed the bedside; I saw him the first time in six weeks this is an example of a complex sentence used by Heaney and also shows how he is addressing his feelings. • 8. Election Explanation Through Sociological Theories Election Explanation through Sociological Theories The 2016 U.S Presidential Election ended on November 19th, yet many people did not expect or even think about the result of Trump becoming our 45th president. Although many people in California did not accept the fact that our first female candidate was defeated and lost the election, it is reasonable to explain some surprising observations and results of the election by looking through the lens of sociological theories. 1. 63% of white men and 53% of white women did not vote for Clinton. As our first female presidential candidate, it was controversial towards her ability be competent to manage a country. Although many people are pursuing gender equality in America, they still hold prejudices and discrimination towards women because of their vulnerable image. It is not surprising that more than half of white men choose to vote for Trump instead of Clinton by Christine Williams s concept of Glass ceiling glass escalator. Williams argued that women in the United States face the predicament of Glass Ceiling, invisible barriers that restrains their promotion in male dominated jobs. On contrary, men are considered to be Glass Escalators in which they are push up in their professions by invisible pressures. • 9. Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured... Whether Intelligence Can be Defined and Measured Accurately or Not In this essay I will look at whether intelligence can be defined and measured accurately through looking at various definitions of intelligence; including definitions from Binet, Wechsler, Terman, Hebbs, Cattel and Vernon. I will discuss a selection of more well known and popular intelligence tests ranging from Galton to Wechsler, what they measure and what they don t measure. I will look at an example of a famous person renowned for being intelligent and what there IQ test result would likely of been, if tested. Starting with a definition from the oxford dictionary we can then go on to see how varied the definitions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Terman (1921) describes intelligence as a person s ability of abstract thinking (1921, cited in Heim, 1970). It seems that psychologists find it hard to reach an agreement to define intelligence, resulting in the final definition I will mention from Vernon (1969) intelligence is what intelligence tests measure (1969, cited in Howe, 1997). Although most definitions seem to have a similarity, the meaning of intelligence can vary over time and through cultures. It was once thought that intelligence was all down to a persons ability with spelling and arithmetic, whereas in the islands of the south pacific a persons ability to navigate the oceans and there spatial memory are the way to judge a persons intelligence level (MSN, 2005). It seems a nomothetic approach is needed to even attempt to measure intelligence. All tests need to be reliable, correlate with existing test scores and show face, internal and ecological validity (MSN, 2005). Intelligence tests were developed to predict school children s eventual academic results (MSN, 2005). In England in the 1880 s Galton made the first attempt at measuring intelligence. Galton s theory was that a person with a good degree of intelligence would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Critical Pedagogy Analysis In The Art of Critical Pedagogy, Jeffrey Duncan Andrade and Ernest Morrell provide vivid examples on how critical pedagogy is beneficial for academic success amongst individuals of color. Critical pedagogy is a multicultural form of teaching that is rooted in the essential experiences of marginalized peoples; that is centered in a critique of structural, economic, and racial oppression; that is focused on dialogue instead of a one way transmission of knowledge; and that is structured to empower individuals and collectives as agents of social change . (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008, p. 49) This style of teaching is essential within urban schools, as it provides students the opportunity to establish critical intellectual and social skills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In comparison to canonical form of teaching, students begin to learn and appreciate the unique and equally meaningful aspects of their culture (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Critical pedagoy that has provided cultural relevance has led me to become a more engaged student. By reading Toni Morrison s book, The Bluest Eye, I often found myself more intrigued in learning similar academic pieces, as the characters often displayed cultural characteristic that were nearly identical to my personal experiences. This teaching practice kept me engaged with the literature, allowing me to perform higher academically. Similar to my experience, students of color that began to partake in culturally relevant courses often endure a vast improvement of their intellectual performance. As a result, many began to take Advanced Placement courses and were able to matriculate to four year universities (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Not only does critical pedagogy allow for a deeper understanding of the curriculum, it also provides critical thinking skills and intellectual resources that are not often provided to students of ... • 12. A Capitalist Manifesto By Gary Wolfram In A Capitalist Manifesto, Gary Wolfram provides an explanation of how free market systems work in society and highlights their benefits compared to socialist economies. The first chapters of the book are an introduction to microeconomics: how marginal analysis, supply, demand, market equilibrium, opportunity cost, and profits work. According to him there are three fundamental advantages to a market economy: it allocates resources efficiently, consumers determine wages and therefore income distribution is fair, and finally it s the only method of organizing society that is consistent with individual liberty. Another misconception he debunks is that the market system is a fierce one of survival at the expense of one s rival. On the contrary, he says markets are very cooperative systems allowing for specialization of labor that is only possible based on cooperation. Another aspect I liked is when he talks about the benefits of free trade and property rights in their role in promoting progress throughout history. • 13. Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities Of The Prince And Lao... Government: A Profound Leader Since the being of time, humans have sought out law, or government. Governments have been set in place all throughout the world to try to maintain peace and order. As easy as it sounds, governments can be demolished without the right leader. However, that is the catch, what makes a good leader? Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities of the Prince and Lao Tzu s Tao te Ching gives some ideas on how a leader should control their government. Although Machiavelli s and Lao Tzu s ideas do not quite go hand and hand, there are some similarities. They both spoke similarly on how people should feel about their leader. Lao Tzu views one of the best qualities of a leader is being loved by his people. On the other hand, Machiavelli believes the best is to be loved and feared, but sense he thinks that is impossible he had rather just be feared. Machiavelli and Lao Tzu are more opposite than alike. According to Machiavelli, war should be a profession of a prince. He suggested a prince to think about war all the time and know the surroundings constantly. However, Lao Tzu suggests a leader not to force war on anyone because the outcome will result in revenge and not to waste time preparing for war. Also, they had different views on what to do with their money. Machiavelli insisted on saving his income for preparation of war, whereas Lao Tzu believed in sharing his money throughout the people. • 14. How Candidiasis Is A Fungal Infection Caused By Yeasts Candidiasis: Overview and Causes Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus Candida. There are at least 15 distinct Candida species that cause human disease, but 90% of invasive disease is caused by the 5 most common pathogens, C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis, and C. krusei with candida albicans being the most prevalent.(Ostrosky Zeichner et al., 2015) Candida yeasts normally reside in the intestinal tract and can be found on mucous membranes and skin without causing infection; however, overgrowth of these organisms can cause symptoms to develop. Symptoms of candidiasis vary depending on the area of the body that is infected.(CDC, 2016e) The different types of Candidiasis are determined by the area of the body they affect. Oropharyngeal candidiasis, otherwise known as Thrush, inhabits the buccal cavity or throat. Candidiasis of the vagina is commonly referred to as a yeast infection. The most clinically significant version of candidiasis is invasive candidiasis, which happens as a result of a candida species entering the bloodstream and spreading throughout the body. Invasive candidiasis is primarily found in immunocompromised patients such as those suffering from HIV, undergoing corticosteroid therapy, chemotherapy, or those with diabetes. • 16. Legal Drinking Age Essay For many of the generations living today, the legal drinking age has always been set at twenty one. In the 1980 s, it rose from eighteen to twenty one in an attempt to reduce the amount of underage drunk driving accidents. The number of traffic fatalities has significantly declined over the past few decades. However, many would argue that the law has spawned many new problems as well, such as an increase in alcohol poisoning deaths and binge drinking. As previously stated, the primary reason for adjustment to the legal drinking age was to address the preposterous number of drunk driving accidents. The United States has experienced a decline in all age groups over the last 25 years and for that, the law has been a success. Although these statistics are encouraging, one must also wonder if more has contributed to this decline than the law itself. 1984 was a completely different time period. In Steve Johnson s essay Myth of the Ant Queen, Johnson describes a phenomena known as emergent behavior, large patterns of uncoordinated local actions which is prevalent in systems with nonhierarchial roles (199). The concept of emergent behavior is a useful, however inaccurate, means of categorizing a system s structure; a self organizing system must have some origin or initial degree of coordination or organization in order to properly function. The novella narrates the courtship of a young beautiful American girl called Daisy Miller by Winterbourne, a sophisticated young American turned European man, whose efforts to win her heart has been derailed by Daisy Miller s flirtatiousness and care free life, which has been frowned upon by the community in Geneva and Rome. According to Ohmann, James began writing with one attitude towards his heroine and concluded with a second and different attitude towards her (2). There is much debate about the cause of the Great Depression and how it differed from the cause of the Great Recession. Many people believe that the stock market crash of 1929 played a major role the Great Depression. On the other hand, the stock market crash of 2008 drove America into the Great Recession. The causes of stock market crashes are often unforeseen, but many have detectable indicators. There are many differences between the 1929 stock market crash and the 2008 stock market crash, but we can learn more from the similarities between the two. The credit boom of the 1920 s is one of the things that contributed most to the stock market crash on 1929 and then the eventual cause of the Great Depression. We find that the credit boom view provides a useful perspective on both the boom of the 1920s and the subsequent slump. In particular, it directs attention to the role played by the structure of the financial sector and the interaction of finance and innovation. (Eichengreen) As many people know today, having a credit card and going shopping without realizing exactly how a credit card works can put the user in a tough situation. The business must operate under strict guidelines, follow the rules, regulations, and standards given by the founding franchisors (Hill, et al 2015, p. 182). This creates a business relationship between the two. According to Ribeiro, D., Akehurst, G. P. Analysis Of Paris Is Burning COMPARISON OF PARIS IS BURNING AND HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE Ava Morrow History 3220 The United States in the 20th Century November 13, 2017 Beginning in the mid 1980 s, a number of efforts were initiated to bring awareness and enlightenment to the actual tragedy of AIDS. Two films that evolved out of these awareness campaigns were the documentaries Paris Is Burning and How to Survive a Plague . Both films, although in significantly diverse ways, provide a window into the alternative lifestyles of LGBT people of the times and the problems and issues they faced. A comparison of these two documentaries demonstrates the initial fears of the public and affected people and the beginnings of acceptance or at least tolerance of these alternative lifestyles. The movie Paris Is Burning is a documentary film exploring race, gender, and sexuality within the African American and Latino gay and transgender communities of the ball culture of New York in the mid to late 1980 s. Ball culture is a term used to describe the underground sub culture of LGBT people who walk or compete for trophies in events known as balls. The film chronicles the ostentatiously arranged competitions in which participants, within a very specific theme, must walk while being judged on criteria such as the authenticity and beauty of their apparel and their dancing ability. Much of the film shows footage of actual balls interspersed with interviews of prominent members of this drag scene. The film shows people of different gender identities and their varied methods of expressing themselves while also exploring how they cope with racism, AIDS, poverty, and homophobia. How to Survive a Plague is a documentary movie which depicts the early years of the AIDS epidemic and the efforts of ACT UP and other groups. ACT UP, founded in March 1987, is an advocacy group which supports legislation and medical research and treatment of AIDS victims. When Charlie made fire, used stone tools for his benefit, and hunted for small game in his habitat it showed a strongly realistic perception of him. When looking at archaeological evidence, we see that Neanderthals could carry out these duties and this is how they survived. Another time Charlie was perceived realistically was when he adapted to his new environment so quickly. A neanderthal s frontal lobe shows some of the first signs of advancement among early hominins. With this being said, Charlie figured out quickly how to hunt game, communicate with Shepherd, and how to make fire in his new setting. Neandertals had to have been skilled hunters. These findings are part of a growing body of literature that suggests Neandertal subsistence behavior was more complex than previously thought (Wong, 2000). In the movie, Shepherd questions if Charlie could interact socially with him and somewhat understand his english. Charlie does a great job of showing social communication to Shepherd. He has his own kind of language, which they interpret and understand what he is saying. Charlie also shows signs of understanding what Shepherd says to him. Grievances Of The Declaration Of Independence The Declaration of Independence was written to declare that America would be free and that it would no longer be under the rule of King George III. The declaration has a total of twenty seven grievances which are complaints towards the King and the government of Britain. One of the many grievances stated in the declaration is that He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislature . This whole process began towards the beginning of 1763. After the Seven Years War ended in February 1763, the king did not withdraw the British troops from America. Instead, he left a lot of the troops in America forcing the colonists to house and support them. According to colonialhall.com, the troops stayed in America in order to enforce the laws; especially with the new taxes that were about to take place. Although the troops did help by protecting colonists and enforcing the laws, it was unnecessary for them to stay. The colonists knew how to defend themselves so there was really no reason for this. It seemed that the King did this, not just to enforce laws, but also to make them fearful so that they would surrender to him. Although the Kings intentions were to get the colonists to appease to him, that did not happen. This only made the colonists fear that they would lose all their rights and it made them angry with the King.
