The Colossus and Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath is one of the greatest poets of all time the queen of confessional poetry. Her writing
is thick with figurative language that cannot be interpreted only one way. Sylvia Plath herself was
complicated, and she struggled with her own personal hardships up until the day she took her own
life. Plath s father passed when she was only eight, and she struggled with his absence not only
though the rest of her childhood but also into adult hood. Many critics believe her famous poems,
such as The Colossus and Daddy, were confessional poems Sylvia wrote about her father.
Although there are many ties within her poetry to her real father, her writing cannot only be
interpreted this way. Sylvia had many demons she likely tried to tackle or even understand through
her writing her pain channeling through the speaker. The Colossus, a poem widely believed to
stem from her own experiences with death and depression, is a beautiful poem rich with imagery
that exposes the pain of living forever in the shadows. The literal definition of colossus means large
statue. A colossus can be a statue that represents a deceased person. The Colossus of Rhodes, one of
the seven ancient wonders of the world, was so grand in size it was considered one of the tallest
statues during that time. The speaker of Sylvia s poem tries to put together a man, whether it be her
father or not, to understand him. She considers him a monument, a colossus, an ancient wonder of
the world that holds power

What role does the landscape play in contributing to...
In this essay I will consider the roles of city and country in three short stories; Water Them
Geraniums by Henry Lawson, Short Shift Saturday by Gavin Casey, and Trees Can Speak by Alan
Marshall. I will argue through contributing to character development, they provide insight into the
construction of contempory Australian identity. In Water Them Geraniums the outback
is shown to
be an emasculating force, particularly for women, that strips away their humanity until they
function in a mechanical way to survive off the land. In Short Shift Saturday the narrator is a
product of an inherited colonial culture and imagines that it is the alien landscape and culture in
which he lives that is the agent of his suffering. In reality, the... Show more content on

This is particularly true for the female characters. Mary and Mrs Spicer, whose family is the
Wilson s only neighbour, both die pre maturely. As Mary says, she can t stand life in the outback,
which she says will kill her.
Mrs Spicer is a gaunt and flat chested woman whose face has been burnt to a brick . She is a little
wild looking at times and when working she wears clothes like an old coat of her husband s , to
do what would have traditionally been considered male tasks such as fixing a leak in the roof.
When she helps Mary lay the table, the way she handles the crockery and napkins convinces Mary
that she had been fairly well brought up .
Mrs Spicer is the incarnation of Mary s destiny if she continues to live in the bush. She is a
woman whose femininity has been ground down by a hard working and poverty stricken life
providing for herself and her many children and whom at the end of the story, dies at a
comparatively young age. In order to survive in country which is no place for a woman , she has
had to become a man. Poverty has stripped her of any luxuries and what possessions she has are
worn. The story puts forward that women treasure attractive or stylish objects because they are the
hallmarks of civilisation. Both the main female characters in this story display this tendency such
as when Mary becomes disheartened as she and Joe share a cup of tea in her new kitchen which has
functional furniture which contrasts with their

What Was King Henry s Decision To Separate From The...
England deciding to separate from the Catholic Church
The English Reformation was a series of events in 16th century England by which the Church of
England broke away from the authority of the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church . This
decision was taking by King Henry the VIII. This decision was primary related to his personal
want to have a male heir to continue the Tudor dynasty in the region. This decision was supported
by the people of England with their dissatisfaction of the Catholic Church. We analyzed the factors
involved in his decision and found couple bias such as short term emotions, confirmation bias and
overconfidence bias.

Social Class And Status Groups
Social class is a concept that has been interpreted countless times throughout history. The existence
of social class and status groups has even been questioned and whether it is a positive or negative
thing. This ethnography explores groups of class and how distinctions between individuals on a
macro level can affect their micro level interactions in everyday life. The differences between
individuals macro distribution would not have any effect if they were not illustrated in everyday
micro level encounters and thus class and status groups would not be formed.
The ethnographic research conducted for this analysis is of social class groups of women in a local
cafГ©. For this study I visited this cafГ© three mornings in a row and observed the daily
activities of the local resident s comings and goings. The first morning everything seemed to run
just as a typical cafГ© would run, women gathering for brunch or morning tea, business people
grabbing their coffee on their way to important meetings and the usual. On the second visit I had
noticed the two same groups of women at the cafГ© sitting at the same spots they were the day
before. I observed the two groups of women simultaneously and even approached them and
conversed with them.
Shortly after interacting with the women I had uncovered the distinction between these groups of
women. They were groups of mothers, one group from the local public school in the neighbourhood
and the other group from the local private school. The

Examples Of Supernatural Elements In The Crucible
Supernatural Elements in The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Superstitions:
Superstitions is the belief in the supernatural element, that one event causes another without any
natural process linking the two events. Superstitions are linked to religion and its aspects like
omen, prophecies and witchcraft. These superstition beliefs are mainly applied to beliefs and
practices surrounding luck, certain spiritual beings or the unknown force of the Almighty.
Superstitions probably have been present among us from the beginning of time, passed on from
generation to generation, culturally transmitted and shared for centuries. These superstitious rituals
and activities can have a positive or a negative impact on one s life hence, may influence ones

This hysteria replaces any logical explanation and enables people to believe in absurd ideas and
thoughts, such as the neighbours that live next to them are committing absurd and unbelievable
crimes communing with the devil, killing babies etc. Arthur Miller in The Crucible shows how
the townsfolk, easily accept and become a part of the hysterical climate not only out of genuine
religious piety but also because it gives them a chance to express their repressed sentiments and
act on long held grudges. Not only did this hysteria allow the townsfolk to act upon their
grudges, they also used this as an opportunity to gain power, to become empowered. As in The
Crucible, a few characters seem to gain power due to the episode of the witch trials who were
previously marginalised in the society of Salem. In general, the women occupy the lowest
position in the male dominated society and have very few options in life. In addition to being
restricted, they work as servants for other townsfolk until they are old enough to get married and
have children of their own. Abigail Williams, a seventeen year old girl, niece of Reverend Parris.
She worked for the Proctor s before Elizabeth Proctor fired her for having an affair with John
Proctor. She is a vengeful girl who, in an attempt to protect herself from punishment, after Reverend
Parris finds them dancing, instigates the Salem witch trials and leads the charge of accusations.
Despite her accusations, Abigail is an unabashed liar who charges witchcraft against those who
oppose her, even Elizabeth Proctor in an attempt to take her place as Proctor s

A Story To Write A Short Story
Sirens could be heard from all over the city. The news was on in every house, reporters saying
Convicted of robbery, Emily Stanford seen running down the streets of New York. The last we
saw her was she was heading down to the bus stations. If anyone has any information on where
she is going please call the police station. Emily ran towards the train station desperate to get
there before the police caught up to her. She walked up to the line and waited impatiently. Every
sound made her on edge, when it was finally her turn she pulled her hood closer to her face. One
ticket for Cold Spring please. Emily said quickly, the lady in the ticket booth gave her her ticket
and directed her to the bus platform. Emily quickly and quietly walked over to the bus and took
her seat. A few hours later the bus stopped and announced its destination, Emily got off the bus
and walked quickly down the street looking for any opportunity to get somewhere to sleep
without getting noticed. She walked past a TV shop and in the window the TV was playing.
The same news playing from earlier that day, she wished every thing would just disappear and
leave her alone for at least one day. She eventually found a small quiet motel, she got a nice
room. After she got settled into the room she got the things she needed out of her backpack. She
walked into the bathroom and got her hair damp and applied the hair dye. While waiting for her
hair to dry she did her makeup, she covered up her freckles.

The Native American Reservations Of The Native Americans
The Native American Reservations Imagine being told that if you migrate to a certain location you
ll be helped with nutrition and your finance will be covered. Sounds good right? Well this is what
the American government promised the Native Americans. A promise that wasn t granted. Many
reservations have actually created a sense of confinement and detachment. The reservations have
limited resources which separates them from the American Culture and society. This is shown
through the laws we ve passed to aid them, and the battle for other native Americans to stand up for
their rights. Also their constant struggle for justice. Native Americans have been widely ignored.
Their past and current struggles they face. Most Americans know all about know the happy Native
Americans that have been celebrated on thanksgiving, but don t seem to know the ones who fought
for their rights . Many Native Americans didn t have a voice, and some still don t. During World
War I, approximately 9,000 Native Americans fought and died while protecting their own country in
return they didn t have their rights granted to them. These rights included their Citizenship. Sounds
kind of crazy how you live on your own land but need a citizenship. Although, some Native
Americans were given a chance to become a citizen, it involved them not practicing their tribal
traditions and adapting to American culture. United States citizenship was just another way of
absorbing us and destroying our customs

Sugar Vs Ice
What makes ice melt faster, salt or sugar? For a fact, almost anything that can be dissolved in
water will be able to melt ice. (Lynch, 2016, pg 1). Well, salt is known to be used on icy roads
during the winter. Salt affects the freezing point of the ice, which causes the falling snow and the
snow that is on the ground to melt more and not freeze less. Like salt, sugar also melts the ice by
affecting the freezing point of ice. Both sugar and salt affect the formation of the water molecules
when they change the freezing point of the ice. Both salt and sugar melt ice, but sugar is not as
effective as salt.(Lynch, 2016, pg 1).
The freezing point is the temperature of a substance when it changes from a liquid to a solid.(World

Chesick, pg 390, para. 5,). The melting points of different substances vary. The melting pointof a
substance depends on the whether the substance is a pure substance or a mixture. A pure substance
melts at a specific temperature. A mixture does not melt at a specific temperature, but at a wide
range of temperatures. The melting point of a substance is affected by atmospheric pressure. An
increase of the pressure raises the melting point of the substance, but it also lowers the melting
point of some substances. The melting point or the point at which water boils is 212 degrees
fahrenheit ( 100 degrees celsius.)
Ice has a crystal structure of frozen water molecules.(World Book, Devlin, pg 5, para. 7). Each
molecule is made up of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. Each molecule is attached to 4
neighboring molecules by connections known as hydrogen bonds.( World Book, Devlin, pg 5,
para 7).An oxygen atom can be part of two hydrogen bonds, while any hydrogen atom can be part
of any 1 hydrogen bond. ( World Book, Devlin, pg 5, para 7.Therefore, these molecules can form
four bonds. These bonds are long, and they point away from each other forming the ice

Niccolo Machiavelli And Plato
Niccolo Machiavelli and Socrates are widely regarded as two of history s greatest
thinkers, both of which had strong, albeit very different, ideas of what it meant for a person, or a
ruler, to be good and virtuous. From Socrates thoughts and ideas as recorded in the Apology and
Crito, it can be concluded that he would not find Machiavelli s version of the Prince to be the ideal
ruler, or preside over a completely prosperous society. Although, Socrates may have disagreed
with many of the aspects of what Machiavelli thought the Prince should be, he would, however, be
supportive of the Prince s political system overall because of his belief that every man has a duty
to follow and uphold the laws of the society in which they live. ... Show more content on

The Prince, by Machiavelli s standards, was a virtuous man, meaning that he was someone that
possessed the traits necessary for one to be a strong ruler. For example, Machiavelli believed that
the Prince should be courageous, ambitious, confident, well learned, and also have good foresight.
Simply, Machiavelli associated virtue with success, and a prince with virtue was one that would go
to any length to be a successful ruler. Socrates on the other hand thought that a virtuous man was
one that strived for truth and goodness in all situations, and followed the laws of the land in which
he was living (Crito, 54B).
Following from the difference in opinions of virtue, there is another closely related area in
which Machiavelli and Socrates thoughts differ; goodness and justice. Socrates believed that a
man should be good and virtuous in all aspects of his life, however, Machiavelli simply did not
believe this was possible. Machiavelli states, everyone will admit that it would be highly
praiseworthy in a prince to possess all the...qualities that are reputed good, but as they cannot all
be possessed or observed, human conditions not permitting of it, it is necessary that he should be
prudent enough to avoid the scandal of those vices which would lose him the state (Machiavelli,
Chapter 15, 57). From this it can be concluded that Machiavelli believes that the Prince should not
try to be good and virtuous in all respects, but only in the ones in which it benefits

Their Story First mentality transcends into every decision they make. Even if a scene has a
technological advancement that does not advance the Story, the scene is taken out (Richards,
2015). This is what separates them from every other animation company. Essentially the building of
their culture comes down to this question: How do you avoid mistakes and manage the risk that
comes from the failure? The answer is: You don t! According to Ed Catmull, Management s job is
not to prevent risk but to build the capability to recover when failures occur. It must be safe to tell
the truth (Catmull, 2008). Pixar has an environment that not only expects failure but encourages it.
Pixar understands attempting to spark creativity in too much bureaucracy is faulty. They know that
true creativity is born within ambiguity, because that is where faith in intuition becomes the most
relevant. This is the cultural quality about Pixar that is so unique, as their culture is almost that
those of a parent. Parents know that their children will fail, and it is the warmest families that will
love their children and create a culture for them to be okay with failure, still drive for success, and
love them no matter what. That is the belief they teach at Pixar University, as the Dean Randy
Nelson says, failure is that negative space around success (Pernula, 2010). This deep humanistic
understanding of creativity is the key to harnessing the love of the end customers all around the

Similarities Between Thomas Jefferson And Slavery
Thomas Jefferson and Slavery
Thomas Jefferson had written in the Declaration of Independence that, all men are created equal.
Also, every man has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In addition, several
enlightenment thinkers in Europe believed in natural law, human progress, and a government
made for the people, all of whom inspired Jefferson. Despite this, in 1716, 500,000 African slaves
were kept in the Americas, and Jefferson was one of these people that owned slaves.
Slavery was legal in all states until 1777, when Vermont outlawed it. Six years later,
Massachusetts followed. New Hampshire removed it from their constitutional interpretation.
After this, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Connecticut adopted gradual emancipation
programs, meaning they gradually freed slaves, ending it in these states. Finally, New York and
New Jersey freed their slaves, leaving the southern colonies remaining. While some people did
free their slaves in the south, many did not. This is because they heavily relied on them, not just
for work, but for their status. It was woven in their lives to the point where it was a
representation of the slave owner s wealth. Jefferson hated slavery, to the point where he made a
plan to remove it in Virginia, which ended up failing. He was in a large amount of debt at the time,
so he didn t believe he could free his own slaves while he was still alive.
Thomas Jefferson had a close relationship with a slave named Sally Hemings, which was very
controversial and considered shameful at the time. James Callender said that Jefferson had
fathered several children from one of his slaves, which didn t get credit until Fawn M. Brodie
published a book in 1974 called, Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History, where she portrayed the
relationship between Jefferson and Hemings. While most versions showed their relationship as
shameful and scandalous, she made it look like they were a happy couple, as if he fell in love
with her and married when she was 14. Others do not think this way because Jefferson was very
protective of his social life, going to extreme measures to hide it. This makes some people believe
he was trying to hide something. Some are not sure if authorities would

The Interlopers Essay
The interlopers is a brief story between two families, an argument between two males for three
generations. A devastation between Ulrich and Georg, two strong enemies. This ponderous feud
has been unpredictable and had brought aftermaths including punches and chaos. The other conflict
is the nature of the story, severe raw weather. The realism is that both men, were the intruders of
the forest in the story. Georg and Ulrich had found themselves in a big forest tabulating if there was
an intruder. Georg had just found his enemy Ulrich. They start out to threaten themselves for who
was going to die first. Outrageously, they started to contend with anger. While battling, a tree
branch had suddenly snapped and drop on Ulrich and Georg. They both got snotty, and couldn t get

Anyways, they remained discussing about their familys argument. While trapped by the tree branch,
Georg and Ulrich kept chatting about who was going to croak first. They remained hours
anguishing from their grievances and the monstrous conditions.

Lundgaard Et Al. (2015) Also Recognized The Conflicting
Lundgaard et al. (2015) also recognized the conflicting hypotheses in cerebral metabolism and that
until this uncertainty is removed, the reliability of neuroimaging data interpretations is reduced. To
address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two
photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose
during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed
taking up more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should
be greater in neurons. First, they assessed their 2DG IR probe by comparing it to 14C glucose and
14C 2 deoxyglucose (14C 2DG) uptake in neurons and astrocytes of... Show more content on

The analysis performed was ex vivo; results showed neurons in multiple brain regions, including
CA1, took up more 2DG IR than astrocytes. Next, to determine if anaesthesia affects cerebral
metabolism, 2DG IR uptake in neurons and astrocytes of GLT1 eGFP reporter mice was
quantitatively analyzed after ketamine/xylazine administration. Anaesthesia decreased glucose
uptake in neurons more so than astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. (2015) introduced the activity
dependent component to their study by unilaterally stimulating (3 Hz) the whiskers of mice and
observing 2DG IR uptake and neuronal activation. Local field potentials were measured in the
contralateral barrel cortex during whisker stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results
confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further, 2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel
cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake in contralateral neurons was significantly
increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically significant between the two hemispheres.
Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused activated neurons to take up glucose to a
greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally, Lundgaard et al. (2015) used fluorescence
activated cell sorting to separate neurons and astrocytes, and then proceeded to use quantitative
polymerase chain reaction to analyze gene expression. Since

buying a group of securities in one product. The most popular ones are mutual funds, segregated
funds and exchange traded funds. What they have in common is that these products are an easy
way to buy a group of securities at once instead of buying each security individually. The fund
can also proportion the securities so you the individual investor does not have to. There are two
main classifications for what type of fund you can purchase in terms of costs. It is important to
know how these costs work so you can avoid paying too much for this convenience. These
products differ in terms of how they are administered, access to the products and their costs. Active
Versus Passive Investing Before getting into which of the products are suitable for you, there are
some aspects that need to be considered so that you understand what the variations are among the
products. Active investing is when someone (a portfolio manager) picks the stocks that are in the
fund and decides how much of each one to hold (the weighting).

Modern America s Foundation Consists Of Equality And...
Modern America s foundation consists of equality and their values against discrimination.
However, during the 1900 s equality was not as easy as it is today due to factors such as
individuals viewing themselves as superior to others. According to the Anti Defamation League
(ADL), this is the mentality known as racism. It s defined as the belief that a particular race is
superior or inferior to another, that a person s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her
inborn biological characteristics... (ADL). The persistence in the 1900 s of White Americans to
hinder blacks from reaching their true equality was dominant in communities, specifically in the
Southern States of the United States. The perception of race by the society and its citizens affected
the lives of blacks, from how they felt, to the nature and the extent in which they participated in
social life. By looking at the film entitled The Great Debaters, we can see that in order to persuade
someone to do something, it is beneficial to create a sense of responsibility; this works because,
making actions seem personally relevant is more effective than a generic response.
Lloyd Bitzer employs that when trying to advocate for change individuals must illustrate a reality
that will enable action. Individuals are often persuaded through measures that provoke a reaction
and an urgency for change in a given situation. Bitzer discusses that a situation, specifically a
rhetorical situation, comes into existence as

Examples Of How Democratic Was Andrew Jackson Dbq
How Democratic Was Andrew Jackson?
Democracy is defined as the people having a say in the government, whether it be through
representatives or directly. When answering the question How Democratic Was Andrew Jackson?
, I would say that Andrew Jackson was the embodiment of democracy when it came to the people
having a say. During his presidential campaign in 1828 Andrew Jackson s campaign motto was Let
the people have a say! Jackson believed that rich and powerful people got away with bending the
acts of the government to get what they wanted, as shown in document 4. In this document he told
Congress
.It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish
purposes.

he United States became involved with the Vietnam War to stop communism spreading throughout

the Gulf of Tonkin, they became more involved in direct action. The US also got involved with
Vietnam because they didn t want another country going to communism after what happened to

pushed to put the whole country under communism, then America helps the local anticommunists
to push them back. President Dwight D. Eisenhower brought a New Look into the national security

Rappaccini’s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Two boys stare at an unfamiliar girl sitting by herself and whisper, She must be new, to each other.
They walk over to her, wanting to know about her, and ask her where she is from. The human
tendency of wanting to know about the unknown is an idea writers such as Nathaniel Hawthorne
use in their works. Hawthorne uses the style of Romanticism, which was most prominent during the
early nineteenth century and includes specific traits such as devotion to nature, feelings of passion,
and the lure of the exotic. It also emphasizes traits including the idea of solitary life rather than life
in society, the reliance on the imagination, and the appreciation of spontaneity. Rappaccini s

In summary, the lure of the exotic which Giovanni feels towards Beatrice and the flowers asserts
that Rappaccini s Daughter is Romantic. The idea of solitary life rather than life in society is a
theme interlaced throughout the short story. Early in the tale, Hawthorne writes, [Giovanni] seated
himself near the window, but within the shadow thrown by the depth of the wall, so that he could
look down into the garden with little risk of being discovered. Giovanni, wanting to be secluded,
hid from view, and this adds to the solitary life theme. Furthermore, the author writes, the desert of
humanity around them ... [pressed] this insulated pair closer together, to describe Giovanni and
Beatrice find kinship (Hawthorne). Near the end of the narrative, both Giovanni and Beatrice
become infused with poison. They are not able to live a normal life or be around society because
their poison will injure or kill others. Beatrice even says that the poison had, estranged [her] from
all society of [her] kind (Hawthorne). Therefore, solitary life, a concurrent theme and Romantic trait
is existent in Rappaccini s Daughter.
Hawthorne s story demonstrates an appreciation and idolization of nature. The author compares
Beatrice to flowers:
Soon there emerged from under a sculptured portal the figure of a young girl, arrayed with as much
richness of taste as the most splendid of the flowers,

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
Nineteen Eighty Four written by George Orwell is a dystopian novel set in a fictional totalitarian
state of Oceania, where the brainwashed citizens are under constant surveillance, and public mind
control dictated by Big Brother, the Party leader. Thus, any independent thought by any individual
or group would severely be punished by the state as a Thought Crime . Punishments could be severe
ranging from reeducation and torture to vaporization meaning death. Around the same year of the
publication of Nineteen Eighty Four, coincidently, a Soviet trained guerrilla fighter named Kim Il
Sung became the founder of a new country the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. Following
the Korean War, Kim Il Sung successfully created the world s most impenetrable cult of
personality, which succeeds on to his grandson, Kim Jon Un s generation and continues its
dictatorial regime today. There is no way of avoiding the incalculable numbers of billboards and
posters with military slogans and propaganda. Throughout the nation, television sets are hardwired
to receive a single signal, broadcast by the state. Thus, each households and public places are
installed with cameras and wiretaps surveilling any individuals against the leader and its Party s
policies will be terminated along with the future family members. Even the actual building the

The Pros And Cons Of The British Empire
Did you know that the British Empire, the most extensive empire in world history, ruled

issues to Europes people leaving them with nothing and nothing to look to, But today you cannot

Finances was another reason why Britain had global power when Britain had the chance to get

military expenses and war transportation, This gave them much more of a reputation. When
Britain agreed to MirJafar paying the troops if he needed them again for war showed that Britain
got what they wanted and forced them to get what they needed, The British also had help when
Spain taxed the Spanish colonist to sell goods. The reason the British needed the products to be
taxed was so they could gain higher profits and power, by them making a higher profit allowed
them to get things they needed for war. The reason Britain has so much money is that they made
allies with people and made compromises, Britain did a trade for trade that guaranteed they

doing things that involved selling and fighting to show that they are the big team and will always

Reduction In Force Process
Administrators are very important for all companies as they are assigned sensitive and specific
roles that make certain the company operates at its optimum capacity. At the same time,
administrators ensure all employees perform their expected duties within the company. Among all
the roles the administrators are assigned, conducting a Reduction In Force (RIF) in the company is
one of them. Reduction in the workforce in any company should be handled professionally and
amicably whilst ensuring that the company, the administration, and the employees are all in
understanding at that point. The termination of an employee s employment or contract should only
take place when a company can no longer sustain the entire workforce in addition to not meeting its
goals and objectives. As an administrator, there are several ways that the reduction in force process
should be conducted at the same time as observing various laws that protects employees from

the chances of litigation if an employee feels he has been unfairly dismissed by the company (Gray,

creating a logical timeline that states how the RIF will be done. The timeline ensures that all
decisions that are made will have been thoroughly deliberated, the creation of proper documentation,
and ensuring all involved parties work together. The timeline also ensures that the employer studies

Compare Beccaria and Lombroso Essay
Compare 2 Key Thinkers and Their Competing Ideologies.
Criminology is a study of crime, criminals and criminal justice. Ideas about criminal justice and
crime arose in the 18th century during the enlightenment, but criminology as we know it today
developed in the late 19th century. Criminology has been shaped by many different academic
disciplines and has many different approaches. It explores the implications of criminal laws; how
they emerge and work, then how they are violated and what happens to those violators. Laws are
relative and historically shaped; they vary from time to time and from place to place (Carrabine et
al, 2009).
This essay will be comparing the competing ideologies of two key thinkers in criminology; Cesare

It is better to try and prevent crimes than it is to punish them, this is achieved by good legislation
which guides men to their greatest, or least unhappiness possible (Beccaria, 1767). As mentioned
previously, Beccaria s utilitarian ideology has shaped the justice system in western societies for
many decades. Therefore, Beccaria can be described as a very influential thinker. Without his
contribution we could still have a system of capital punishment, and that is a worrying thought.
However, we now seem fixed with utilitarian justice. It may be argued that it is now time to move
towards restorative justice. There are also those such as Tullock (1974), who argue for a return to
harsher sentencing. Some states in the US still consider the death penalty to be a legitimate
punishment. So it can be said that Beccaria is undoubtedly a key thinker in criminology, but as with
all key thinkers he is not without his critics.
Cesare Lombroso was also Italian but came from a Jewish family and is very different to
Beccaria. He trained as a medical doctor and graduated in 1858. He was a leading contributor in the
development of a positivist criminology which collected and looked into scientific measurements
for the explanation of criminal behaviour and crime (Hayward et al, 2010). Nearly all biological
theories stem from Lombroso and his book The Criminal man published in 1876, although
Lombroso enlarged upon and updated this original publication through five editions

U.s. Foreign Policy Policies
The U.S. foreign policy has always been linked to the domestic policy since the U.S. never feared of
expanding its national interests over the national boarders. Isolation for the U.S. usually implied
slow economic growth and the large number of destructive conflicts within, while impudent foreign
policy always guaranteed an abrupt economic growth for the U.S. economy. After the U.S.
intervened in the WWI and the WWII, the U.S. economy witnessed a tremendous economic growth,
nearly elimination of the unemployment, rapid urbanization and overall growth of the standards of
living across the country. Decisive foreign policyhas always been providing the U.S. economy with
the sustainable and rapid economic growth, unlike the policy aimed at isolation of the U.S.
According to Kaufman and Joyce (2010), preoccupation with the domestic issues never resulted in
the long term economic growth for the U.S. Isolationist policies impeded the U.S. territorial
expansion in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (Kaufman Joyce 71). While some presidents
indeed preferred isolationism like FDR during his first tenures as the U.S. President, he then
abolished isolationist policies after the 1941 Pearl Harbor disaster. The U.S. witnessed that
isolationist policies for the U.S. turned out to be extremely unproductive and even dangerous.
Militarist Japan brutally attacked the U.S. fleet on Hawaii during the WWII, totally ignoring the
U.S. neutral isolationist status in 1941. FDR had to confess

Theme Of Love In A View From The Bridge
Love is a powerful motivator that most writers will touch upon in plays and novels. Miller uses
the many kinds of love to drive the major events of the plot of A View from the Bridge, and the
different kinds intertwine as the characters change and the play develops. The play opens with a
family scene, showing the lovebetween Eddie, his wife Beatrice, and Catherine. Eddie is the
proud head of the household and is determined to keep the vow he promised [Catherine s]
mother on her death bed ; to keep Catherine safe, even though at times the others can see that
they may be too much love for the niece . This original family dynamic shows the happy life that
could have been lead, and Miller deliberately wrote this scene to let his audience see what has
been lost by the end of the play; a tragic end is only tragic if there was something to lose. This
family love is vital to the way of life that the people of Brooklyn lead, and it comes from the
strong Italian family values and the ways they shape the justice system, and in America this
form of justice mixes with the state law as the residents settle for half . It is this family love that
brings Marco to America, as he is desperately searching for a way for his family to escape the
incredible poverty back in Sicily that leaves them to eat the sunshine . Marco also brings his
brother Rodolfo, who is crazy about New York . The brothers have an incredibly strong bond, and
Marco is willing to defend his brother to the death.

Photography Art History
During the 1850s the photographic community pursued an increased activity to advance the

Photographic Society) and the Societe Francaise de Photographie, established in 1853 and 1854

Photographic Journal in London, and others in Italy, Germany and the United States were at the
vanguard of discussions regarding photographyas a legitimate art form, promoting spaces which
would included exhibitions of photography as well as painting.
At the beginning of 1862, an article published in the Photographic Journal, by an unknown author,
summed up the discussions over photography as art, stating: the question is not whether
photography is fine art per se neither painting nor sculpture can make that claim but whether it is
capable of artistic expression; whether in the hands of a true artists its productions become works of
art. A French naturalist, Louis Figuier, also made an accurate observation in regards to photography

Dementi Legal And Ethical Implications
Dementia is an umbrella term for brain disorders that affect memory, thinking and communication.
In the US alone about 5.4 million people have been diagnosed with a form of dementia of which
96% are individuals over the age of 65.
Advanced dementia can lead to people having a severe cognitive decline and can affect activities
of daily living. Because there is no cure for dementia it is considered a terminal illness. Many
patients living with advanced dementia may have not have any desire to eat or have difficulty
eating and experience dysphagia and weight loss. To combat the rapid weight loss, tube feeding is
used as a common practice.
There is legal and ethical controversy regarding the use of artificial methods of feeding. Ethical
implications include arguments of withholding or removing tube feedings can be viewed as
euthanasia or can it be beneficial to the patient or a burden. Legal implications include if advance
directives are not present is it the patient s wish to be placed on a feeding tube? To prevent legal
liability or penalties many nursing homes religiously initiate tube feedings to patients with
dementia who stop eating to prevent weight loss Feeding tubes are placed to provide nutrition to
these patients but can lead to a lot of complications like aspiration pneumonia, pressure ulcers.
(Sheiman). Nursing homes may also push for the placement of tube feeding because of monetary
reimbursement that is greater than the patients who are non tube fed.

Good And Evil In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Another powerful symbol used to portray the theme of evil is the staff. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses
this symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first
shown as the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as
remarkable was his staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454).
GoodmanBrown was mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree

evil and slyness. The serpent is normally painted with such negative nouns because of the infamous

Goodman Brown then succumbs to the temptation. Hawthorne then adds the symbolic moment
before he ventures out which is when he finds his wife s ribbon and he begins to cry out that he
has loss of his Faith. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of
Goodman Brown s wife then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown
recognizes that he is losing his faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into
sin and there is nothing for him to do because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted
his fallen state. There is no good on earth, and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this

The limitations challenging further integration of information and communication technology
(ICT) in Nigeria s secondary schools: An assessment through secondary school teachers and

1.2REASON FOR CHOICE OF TOPIC
Over the past decade, technology has had far reaching impact on the way we live, changing the
way we work, learn, and communicate even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities
(Seifer and Mihalynuk, 2003). The role of ICT in education extends beyond service learning classes
and activities by providing more effective experiences for faculty, students and community
participants (Seifer and Mihalynuk, 2003).
The need for ICT in Nigerian secondary schools cannot be overemphasized. In this technology
driven era, everyone needs ICT competence to thrive (Adomi and Kpangban, 2010). Although
efforts have been made to ensure that ICTs are available and utilised in Nigerian secondary school.

The Dark Knight A Power Struggle
Batman, a name synonymous with the word hero. He was first introduced to the world in
Detective Comics #27 (artist Bob Kane, writer Bill Finger, 1939). He quickly became a fan
favourite and has since then seen numerous film, television, and video game adaptations. The first
film adaptation being Batman (Lambert Hillyer, 1943), a mere 4 years after his introduction in
1939. Throughout his tenured career Batman has faced numerous villains, each of them
reinforcing the themes of evil vs good, power, and anarchy vs order. The themes are especially
prevalent when Batman faces off against his arch rival, and foil, the Joker. In The Dark Knight
(Christopher Nolan, 2008) these themes are perfectly encapsulated in the Joker interrogation
scene. Almost an hour and half into the film is when the interrogation scene takes place. The
scene lasts for approximately five minutes and is comprised of 79 cuts. In a way, the scene
almost has three acts. It starts off with the Joker s perspective of Commissioner Gordon entering
the room to begin his interrogation of the Joker. The Joker is framed to the right, while Gordon

time in forever, Melanie almost felt bad for Hayley. Hayley read the letter thinking that she didn t
mean to make Anna kill herself, she meant for it to be one huge joke. Melanie left and ran back

The Relevance Of The Nascaturus Fiction
The purpose of this essay is to discuss the rule and law of the nasciturus fiction, with reference to
legal subjectivity. It aims to investigate the relevance of the nascaturus fiction within South African
law, and with reference to cited cases, demonstrate the reality of this law within current times.
Many meaning exist for the term birth within South African law. South African law is based on
Roman Dutch law, and analysing the structure of Roman Dutch law may aid in the interpretation of
the nasciturus fiction within South African law.
Birth registration was not a lawfully necessary action in ancient Rome, but was rather used to
determine proof of birth and age [1]. No damages in terms of law were suffered by people who did
not register children at birth, and it did not lead to any disadvantages within law [2]. However, the
use of such birth registration proved fruitless as it did not effectively prove a person s age.
The term legal subjectivity arises, and this is questionable in terms of the nasciturus fiction. Legal
subjectivity, in terms of law, begins at birth, provided that the birth is successful and the baby born.
Common law requirements state: The body of the nasciturus or foetus must be separated from the
body of the mother; it is not required that the umbilical cord be cut; the child must live after being
born, even for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be noted that the nasciturus fiction and the nasciturus rule differ. The nasciturus rule
allows that if a situation arises where a foetus would have benefited if it was born, the rights that
would be given to the born child are conferred to the foetus. This results in the foetus becoming a
legal person. The foetus subsequently has legal capacity and subjectivity from the date upon which
conception is placed. It is not necessary for the child to be born alive in the case of the nasciturus

How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay
Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and
expansion of working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work.
The concept of Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage
of heat energy in steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is a fixed amount of gas is
sealed inside the closed space .
Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates
without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part load characteristics. With this type of
advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application.
Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason
behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are
more expensive and most complicated than IC engine. In addition to that, it has low power density
and sealing problems while working on high pressure and high speed. Moreover, It requires twice
efficient cooling system compared to other engine of equivalent power.
In past, there were plenty of experiments conducted to use Stirling engine in automotive section.
Efforts to develop Stirling powered cars, vans and buses have been made in Europe and the USA.
NV Philips, United Stirling of Sweden, have worked together with DAF and US companies such as
General Motors,

Christianity, Religion, And Religion Essay
Christianity, one of the western religion which is accepted by more than 30% of the world
population. Actually, I am not part of this religion: I am from Hindu religion, an eastern religion. In
my religion, there are thousands of gods, but I don t even know the name of more than 50 gods.
Unlike Hindu, in Christianity, there is only one God, JesusChrist, who is the central figure in
Christianity. Among the Christianity community, it is believed that God sends his son to the
earth to free the people from pain and suffering. For the salvation of the people son of God took
an avatar of Jesus Christ. It is also believed that Jesus came back after the third day of his death.
As I am the person from a different religion, I find the different concept of God in western
religion. We, Eastern people worship many gods and we have many festivals to celebrate but in
Christianity, people only follow to Lord Jesus. For them, Christmas is their main festival as it is
the birth date of Christ, Easter as the day that Jesus came back from his death.
According to the Christian mythology, Jesus was born from virgin women Mary. Nearly about
2,000 years ago, Mary was informed by the angel named Gabriel that she would have a son, Jesus,
who would be the son of god. And soon, Mary (the virgin women) gave birth to the Jesus Christ in
the stable. At the birth of the Jesus Christ, the angel tells some shepherds that their savior, Christ
had already taken birth. Very soon, the news about the birth

Penny Synthesis Essay
The production of the one cent piece has long been a topic of controversy. Some argue for the
penny saying that the penny has been a part of U.S. history for over 200 years; while those on the
opposing side argue that eliminating the penny could save retail businesses time and therefore
money by saving the time wasted counting pennies at the register. Some argue that we should phase
out pennies because the value is so little that no one uses them; In fact, the face value of the penny
is so little that it costs more to produce it. Because of the downsides to the continued production of
the penny, we ought to phase the penny out. One reason pennies should be eliminated is that they
waste the time of retail businesses. According to Dr. Robert... Show more content on

The purpose of currency is to be exchanged for goods and/or services. However if the value of the
coin is too low, no one is going to bother to use it because it cannot buy anything. According to
source #2, the United States Department of Defense deemed the penny not cost effective to ship
because it weighed so much and was worth so little. Foreign military bases use a rounding system
that rounds to the nearest nickel. Source #2 states, The rounding system seems to work well for
the military, and some experts such as Harvard professor N. Gregory Mankiw want to do the same
in the entire United States. . Based on this quote, we can conclude that eliminating the penny would
not have any significant adverse effects as it seems to work well on military bases. In addition to
United State military bases, Canada no longer produces the one cent piece. Jim Flaherty, the
Canadian finance minister, believes that the value of the coin is so low that we find ourselves
throwing them away in water fountains, storing them away in jars, and simply not reusing them as

  • 2. The Colossus and Daddy by Sylvia Plath Sylvia Plath is one of the greatest poets of all time the queen of confessional poetry. Her writing is thick with figurative language that cannot be interpreted only one way. Sylvia Plath herself was complicated, and she struggled with her own personal hardships up until the day she took her own life. Plath s father passed when she was only eight, and she struggled with his absence not only though the rest of her childhood but also into adult hood. Many critics believe her famous poems, such as The Colossus and Daddy, were confessional poems Sylvia wrote about her father. Although there are many ties within her poetry to her real father, her writing cannot only be interpreted this way. Sylvia had many demons she likely tried to tackle or even understand through her writing her pain channeling through the speaker. The Colossus, a poem widely believed to stem from her own experiences with death and depression, is a beautiful poem rich with imagery that exposes the pain of living forever in the shadows. The literal definition of colossus means large statue. A colossus can be a statue that represents a deceased person. The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, was so grand in size it was considered one of the tallest statues during that time. The speaker of Sylvia s poem tries to put together a man, whether it be her father or not, to understand him. She considers him a monument, a colossus, an ancient wonder of the world that holds power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What role does the landscape play in contributing to... In this essay I will consider the roles of city and country in three short stories; Water Them Geraniums by Henry Lawson, Short Shift Saturday by Gavin Casey, and Trees Can Speak by Alan Marshall. • 6. Social Class And Status Groups Social class is a concept that has been interpreted countless times throughout history. The existence of social class and status groups has even been questioned and whether it is a positive or negative thing. This ethnography explores groups of class and how distinctions between individuals on a macro level can affect their micro level interactions in everyday life. The differences between individuals macro distribution would not have any effect if they were not illustrated in everyday micro level encounters and thus class and status groups would not be formed. The ethnographic research conducted for this analysis is of social class groups of women in a local cafГ©. For this study I visited this cafГ© three mornings in a row and observed the daily activities of the local resident s comings and goings. The first morning everything seemed to run just as a typical cafГ© would run, women gathering for brunch or morning tea, business people grabbing their coffee on their way to important meetings and the usual. On the second visit I had noticed the two same groups of women at the cafГ© sitting at the same spots they were the day before. I observed the two groups of women simultaneously and even approached them and conversed with them. Shortly after interacting with the women I had uncovered the distinction between these groups of women. They were groups of mothers, one group from the local public school in the neighbourhood and the other group from the local private school. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only did this hysteria allow the townsfolk to act upon their grudges, they also used this as an opportunity to gain power, to become empowered. Well, salt is known to be used on icy roads during the winter. Salt affects the freezing point of the ice, which causes the falling snow and the snow that is on the ground to melt more and not freeze less. Like salt, sugar also melts the ice by affecting the freezing point of ice. Both sugar and salt affect the formation of the water molecules when they change the freezing point of the ice. Niccolo Machiavelli And Plato Niccolo Machiavelli and Socrates are widely regarded as two of history s greatest thinkers, both of which had strong, albeit very different, ideas of what it meant for a person, or a ruler, to be good and virtuous. From Socrates thoughts and ideas as recorded in the Apology and Crito, it can be concluded that he would not find Machiavelli s version of the Prince to be the ideal ruler, or preside over a completely prosperous society. Although, Socrates may have disagreed with many of the aspects of what Machiavelli thought the Prince should be, he would, however, be supportive of the Prince s political system overall because of his belief that every man has a duty to follow and uphold the laws of the society in which they live. ... For example, Machiavelli believed that the Prince should be courageous, ambitious, confident, well learned, and also have good foresight. Simply, Machiavelli associated virtue with success, and a prince with virtue was one that would go to any length to be a successful ruler. Socrates on the other hand thought that a virtuous man was one that strived for truth and goodness in all situations, and followed the laws of the land in which he was living (Crito, 54B). Following from the difference in opinions of virtue, there is another closely related area in which Machiavelli and Socrates thoughts differ; goodness and justice. Socrates believed that a man should be good and virtuous in all aspects of his life, however, Machiavelli simply did not believe this was possible. Machiavelli states, everyone will admit that it would be highly praiseworthy in a prince to possess all the...qualities that are reputed good, but as they cannot all be possessed or observed, human conditions not permitting of it, it is necessary that he should be prudent enough to avoid the scandal of those vices which would lose him the state (Machiavelli, Chapter 15, 57). Also, every man has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In addition, several enlightenment thinkers in Europe believed in natural law, human progress, and a government made for the people, all of whom inspired Jefferson. Despite this, in 1716, 500,000 African slaves were kept in the Americas, and Jefferson was one of these people that owned slaves. Slavery was legal in all states until 1777, when Vermont outlawed it. Six years later, Massachusetts followed. New Hampshire removed it from their constitutional interpretation. After this, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Connecticut adopted gradual emancipation programs, meaning they gradually freed slaves, ending it in these states. Finally, New York and New Jersey freed their slaves, leaving the southern colonies remaining. While some people did free their slaves in the south, many did not. This is because they heavily relied on them, not just for work, but for their status. It was woven in their lives to the point where it was a representation of the slave owner s wealth. Jefferson hated slavery, to the point where he made a plan to remove it in Virginia, which ended up failing. He was in a large amount of debt at the time, so he didn t believe he could free his own slaves while he was still alive. Thomas Jefferson had a close relationship with a slave named Sally Hemings, which was very controversial and considered shameful at the time. James Callender said that Jefferson had fathered several children from one of his slaves, which didn t get credit until Fawn M. Brodie published a book in 1974 called, Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History, where she portrayed the relationship between Jefferson and Hemings. While most versions showed their relationship as shameful and scandalous, she made it look like they were a happy couple, as if he fell in love with her and married when she was 14. Others do not think this way because Jefferson was very protective of his social life, going to extreme measures to hide it. This makes some people believe he was trying to hide something. (2015) also recognized the conflicting hypotheses in cerebral metabolism and that until this uncertainty is removed, the reliability of neuroimaging data interpretations is reduced. To address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed taking up more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should be greater in neurons. Next, to determine if anaesthesia affects cerebral metabolism, 2DG IR uptake in neurons and astrocytes of GLT1 eGFP reporter mice was quantitatively analyzed after ketamine/xylazine administration. Anaesthesia decreased glucose uptake in neurons more so than astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. (2015) introduced the activity dependent component to their study by unilaterally stimulating (3 Hz) the whiskers of mice and observing 2DG IR uptake and neuronal activation. Local field potentials were measured in the contralateral barrel cortex during whisker stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further, 2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake in contralateral neurons was significantly increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically significant between the two hemispheres. Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused activated neurons to take up glucose to a greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally, Lundgaard et al. However, during the 1900 s equality was not as easy as it is today due to factors such as individuals viewing themselves as superior to others. According to the Anti Defamation League (ADL), this is the mentality known as racism. It s defined as the belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another, that a person s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics... (ADL). The persistence in the 1900 s of White Americans to hinder blacks from reaching their true equality was dominant in communities, specifically in the Southern States of the United States. The perception of race by the society and its citizens affected the lives of blacks, from how they felt, to the nature and the extent in which they participated in social life. Ideas about criminal justice and crime arose in the 18th century during the enlightenment, but criminology as we know it today developed in the late 19th century. Criminology has been shaped by many different academic disciplines and has many different approaches. It explores the implications of criminal laws; how they emerge and work, then how they are violated and what happens to those violators. Laws are relative and historically shaped; they vary from time to time and from place to place (Carrabine et al, 2009). It is better to try and prevent crimes than it is to punish them, this is achieved by good legislation which guides men to their greatest, or least unhappiness possible (Beccaria, 1767). As mentioned previously, Beccaria s utilitarian ideology has shaped the justice system in western societies for many decades. Therefore, Beccaria can be described as a very influential thinker. Without his contribution we could still have a system of capital punishment, and that is a worrying thought. However, we now seem fixed with utilitarian justice. It may be argued that it is now time to move towards restorative justice. There are also those such as Tullock (1974), who argue for a return to harsher sentencing. Some states in the US still consider the death penalty to be a legitimate punishment. So it can be said that Beccaria is undoubtedly a key thinker in criminology, but as with all key thinkers he is not without his critics. Cesare Lombroso was also Italian but came from a Jewish family and is very different to Beccaria. He trained as a medical doctor and graduated in 1858. He was a leading contributor in the development of a positivist criminology which collected and looked into scientific measurements for the explanation of criminal behaviour and crime (Hayward et al, 2010). • 31. Theme Of Love In A View From The Bridge Love is a powerful motivator that most writers will touch upon in plays and novels. Miller uses the many kinds of love to drive the major events of the plot of A View from the Bridge, and the different kinds intertwine as the characters change and the play develops. The play opens with a family scene, showing the lovebetween Eddie, his wife Beatrice, and Catherine. Eddie is the proud head of the household and is determined to keep the vow he promised [Catherine s] mother on her death bed ; to keep Catherine safe, even though at times the others can see that they may be too much love for the niece . This original family dynamic shows the happy life that could have been lead, and Miller deliberately wrote this scene to let his audience see what has been lost by the end of the play; a tragic end is only tragic if there was something to lose. This family love is vital to the way of life that the people of Brooklyn lead, and it comes from the strong Italian family values and the ways they shape the justice system, and in America this form of justice mixes with the state law as the residents settle for half . It is this family love that brings Marco to America, as he is desperately searching for a way for his family to escape the incredible poverty back in Sicily that leaves them to eat the sunshine . Marco also brings his brother Rodolfo, who is crazy about New York . The brothers have an incredibly strong bond, and Marco is willing to defend his brother to the death. ... It aims to investigate the relevance of the nascaturus fiction within South African law, and with reference to cited cases, demonstrate the reality of this law within current times. Many meaning exist for the term birth within South African law. South African law is based on Roman Dutch law, and analysing the structure of Roman Dutch law may aid in the interpretation of the nasciturus fiction within South African law. Birth registration was not a lawfully necessary action in ancient Rome, but was rather used to determine proof of birth and age [1]. No damages in terms of law were suffered by people who did not register children at birth, and it did not lead to any disadvantages within law [2]. However, the use of such birth registration proved fruitless as it did not effectively prove a person s age. The term legal subjectivity arises, and this is questionable in terms of the nasciturus fiction. Legal subjectivity, in terms of law, begins at birth, provided that the birth is successful and the baby born. How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work. The concept of Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage of heat energy in steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is a fixed amount of gas is sealed inside the closed space . Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part load characteristics. With this type of advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application. Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are more expensive and most complicated than IC engine. In addition to that, it has low power density and sealing problems while working on high pressure and high speed. Moreover, It requires twice efficient cooling system compared to other engine of equivalent power. In past, there were plenty of experiments conducted to use Stirling engine in automotive section.
