Ethnographic Report On Medical Anthropology
Originally I was planning on doing my ethnographic project on an area within medical anthropology
or on the Exclusive Brethren. However, after attending one week tutorial I have decided that these
topics are too broad and may be too difficult to research within the given time frame. For instance, my
anthropological interests with medical anthropology lie around how indigenous groups use their
natural environment . In particular, I am interested in the difference between western society and how
we go to a doctor and chemist when we are sick and how some indigenous societies use their natural
environment, such as plants from the forest to heal people. However, to cover this topic, I would find
it significantly hard in New Zealand, as I don t

Riordan Manufacturing has a large problem when it comes to inventory and customer orders. Because
Riordan has offices both in the United States and in China, it faces a number of obstacles both in the
logistics of inventory control and the need for accurate customer order management. Riordan
Manufacturing should switch to using Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a
Customer Relationship Management program that focuses on customer records, sales, marketing, help
desk, inventory and customer order management, make financial data available for planning and
regulatory compliance, automate routine functions so employees can focus on critical tasks, help
minimize the costs and complexities of administering salaries, benefits recruiting and performance
management, provides greater visibility into aspects of performance factors such as profitability and
potential issues, and meet industry specific needs with functionality for upward business processes

The, Indian Man And Woman Eating By Theodore De Bry
When the first time John White sailed to the North America in 1585, native americans would never be
strange to Europeans. As an artist, during his time at Roanoke Island, White drew a number of vivid
watercolors of the scenery, culture and the native people, which were published as A Briefe and True
Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. To Europeans, these works were the most informative
illustrations of North America. After these works published, an engraver, named by Theodore De Bry,
made a series of engravings directly from John White s paintings. However, the engravings were
unable to be an accurate depiction of North America. If viewers watch them roughly, they are very
similar, but there are some slight but crucial differences in detailed. The image Indian Man and
Woman Eating by John White depicts a man and a woman are seated facing each other on a stipe of
matting. There is a container with a bunch of circular fruits between their feet. It seems that each of
them is covered by a clothing made by turkey feather in a certain style at that time. Their faces are flat
with peace, but also there are some tattoos on their faces. The man s ears are pierced by a shell
ornament and the woman tied with a bead knot. Behind them, there are standing a few plants. In the
engraving Their sitting at meate created by De Bry, there are some changes appear: their facial
structure alters, which looks more like Europeans; the muscle and right curve on their bodies are

Keeping Memos For The State Of Texas
Although it can be hard at times, it is very important to read and keep memos given to you by
employers. Company s update their policies from time to time and you have to abide by the changes.
When I worked for the state of Texas we would receive multiple emails regarding policy changes and
or updates. I had to abide by the changes.
Privacy Rights Clearinghouse went over computer and workstation monitoring, email monitoring,
telephone monitoring, mobile device monitoring, audio and video monitoring, GPS tracking, postal
mail and social media monitoring. Employers are able to see what is on your screen, how much time
you spend away from your computer and how many keystrokes per hour each employer does.
Employers are able to discretely monitor employees with certain computer equipment. Employees
may not know they are being monitored. Employers can review email content. Even though the
message may have an option for marking an email as private, the company may still have access to the
email. You should assume that your work emails are not private. Even though you may delete your
emails, the company still has access to them also.
Employers have the ability to monitor and listen to your phone calls you have with your clients and
customers and they can obtain a record of the phone calls you make. If you wear a headset, your
conversations with your coworkers could be monitored. Employers could have apps on your mobile
device that monitors your text messages, email, location, web

Essay The Sadness of Poverty in Frank McCourt s Angela’s...
The Sadness of Poverty in Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes
It is not the rich man you should properly call happy, but him who knows how to use with wisdom the
blessings of the gods, to endure hard poverty, and who fears dishonor worse than death, and is not
afraid to die for cherished friends or fatherland.
In the novel Angela s Ashes, (1996) by Frank McCourt, a life of poverty is the only life this family
knows. It is a memoir about a young boy born in New York City. Frank, born ten months prior to his
brother Malachy, was raised in a small apartment with his parents, Angela and Malachy McCourt.
A dark haired boy with fair skin, little Frankie was forced to wear the same clothes day after day and
be happy that he even had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon after that, she had a little girl named Margaret. Margaret lived for a month and then she died.
That was the only month that Malachy never drank the whole paycheck and he never once came home
late singing any songs. Angela loved her little girl more than anything, especially because of the way it
reformed Malachy. After Margaret died, they moved to Ireland, hoping to get away from the poor
streets of New York and back to their families.
They found a home in Limerick, if you could call it a home. It was a room with a fireplace, a table,
three chairs and a big bed. With a family of six, it was a tight fit, but after nights on boats and trains, it
was heaven. Then came the fleas, which fed upon their slender bodies night after night.
Frank McCourt has a subtle yet striking way of telling his story like it was; miserable. The way he
described how little food they had and how close their family came to being homeless is amazing.
When telling about the twins deaths he states it so simply, I know Oliver is dead and Malachy knows
Oliver is dead but Eugene is too small to know anything. When he wakes in the morning he says,
Ollie, Ollie, and toddles around the room looking under beds. . . . Dad says Eugene is lucky to have
brothers like Malachy and me because we help him forget and soon, with God s help, he ll have no
memory of Oliver at all. He died anyway. Six months after Oliver went. . . there was Eugene, cold in
the bed beside

Hodgkin s Lymphoma Case Study
The disease that I chose is Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin s lymphoma (NLPHL), a type
of cancer, but specifically a type of Hodgkin s lymphoma. I have chosen this because a year ago I was
battling it. One day I was a normal teenager and the next, I was getting to know the Hematology
Oncology clinic that I d be spending a numerous amount of days in. Hodgkin s lymphoma can affect
anyone, all the way from a baby to a 114 year old lady. But NLPHL usually affects 30 40 year old
men, which I am neither. To say my diagnosis was a surprise would be an understatement. I had some
of the symptoms, night sweats and low grade fever, but I didn t really have the weight loss or any
enlarged lymph nodes, at least that I could see. Most people are able to not only see the lymph nodes,
but feel the firmness of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chemo regimen ABVD is often used as a treatment for general Hodgkin s lymphoma, so I had that
for four cycles. But for NLPHL, Rituximab, a type of immunotherapy drug is used most often, I also
had this for 6 weeks straight. My doctors talked to doctors out in Texas to see the correct treatment for
NLPHL, since it s a very small portion of Hodgkin lymphoma and not usually seen in teens, let alone
female ones. The downside to treatment is the terrible side effects that most, but not all people get. For
chemo they are, but not limited to, hair loss, mouth sores, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue. And for
Rituximab the side effects can include headache, flu symptoms, joint and muscle pain, back pain,
night sweats and nausea. These side effects are only the short term ones, the ones that go away once
treatment is done, but there are many long term side effects that I ve yet to run

Carolee In A Television Drama By Jane Rule
A Television Drama , written by Jane Rule, is the story of a woman who lives on the street where a
crime takes place. The police, swarmed just outside the woman s house, were asking witnesses
questions and looking for the suspect of a burglary that had occurred a few blocks away. The
protagonist, Carolee, is frightened by this and decides to stay inside her home. While inside the house,
she walks around aimlessly, glancing outside the windows when she spots an injured man in her
garden. She hesitates to call the police and simply observes the man, ultimately deciding against
calling 911. Some believe that this was not a morally correct thing to do; however, Carolee was
correct in deciding not to phone the police because she thought she might have been imagining the
man in her garden, the police were already on the scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Had she called and told the operator that there was an injured man in her garden whom may be the
man that they were looking for and in reality she had been imagining the whole thing, it would have
caused the police to be wasting their time on nothing. The time that the police could have spent
searching for the suspect of the crime would have been wasted on a figment of Carolee s imagination.
As a result, the suspect would ve been found later than he was and since the man was injured, his
condition could have worsened. If he had been given more time to flee the scene he could have found
himself in a location that was more dangerous for the police, which in result would have made it more
dangerous for him. If the police believed that the location was unsafe, or posed a threat to them, they
may have opened fire on the suspect, ultimately giving him severe injuries or potentially death. There
is no reason to risk putting several people in more danger just because of something she may have

Benefits Of A Child s Nutrition
Fruits and vegetables have a very essential role in our diet. Studies have shown the importance of
sufficient fruit and vegetable consumption in stopping chronic diseases like cardiovascular diseases,
cancers, diabetes and obesity. According to 2000 report, 2.7 million deaths and 1.8% all diseases
worldwide could be attributed to inadequate F V intake (Najimi, 2013). Starting to eat well when
young is important. Research has proven that interventions at a young age can impact good behavior
such as good nutritional habits that get carried on into adulthood. Furthermore, ages 7 to 12 is when a
child should get nutrients for growing. Therefore, the significance of a child s nutrition becomes more
of a need than ever (Najimi, 2013). Examples of the benefits of kids eating healthy when young are
good mental activities, prevention of problems and complications like anaemia, obesity, digestive
disorders, and tooth decay and chronic and dangerous diseases in the long term (Najimi, 2013).
Complicated health problems are determined by health behaviour theories, since it can impact factors
on behaviour by giving context to be able to better grasp its components and their role. The social
cognitive theory is a theory that is applied for looking at psychological effects on behaviors as well as
changing behavior and it focuses on mutual interactions of persons, behavior and environment.

LACCD Metaphors
Introduction
The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is one of the largest community college
districts in the nation. The District is composed of nine colleges spread throughout approximately 900
square feet of distance. The purpose of this report is to analyze the LACCD using metaphors described
in Gareth Morgan s Images of Organization. In addition, I plan to reveal how the LACCD benefits
from maintaining a bureaucracy, the challenges the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)
had while integrating new forms of technology into its organization, the obstacles with accreditation,
the number of crimes that have taken place at the LACCD, and the cost of providing security. After

According to Morgan, bureaucracies may achieve efficiency by dividing tasks and developing detailed
rules and regulations (Morgan, 17) for all employees. The procurement process begins with the desire
to purchase a good or service for example, a pencil. In order to purchase this supply at the LACCD
one employee must create a purchase order (PO) in SAP by logging into their account that is linked to
a budget. The PO must have the vendors contact information, details about the product including
price, quantity, model number, and taxes. It must also be approved from the department chair or dean,
the departments Vice President, and college s Vice President of Administrative Services. If the
purchase price of the good is over $5,000 the college performs an additional step and gets the approval

star is the stellar nebula the latin word for cloud they are actually not a cloud but they are made of dust
hydrogen and helium gas and plasma they are also called stellar nurseries as people have only

The third star is the neutron star as they are created when a giant star dies now i don t know if tha is
any different than a massive star but it also is created when a supernova dies and their core collapses
with the protons and electrons essentially melting into each other.they are city sized stared structures
as they are big and size and mass.when stars four times as big as the sun blows up it leaves a little core
behind and that is the neutron star the mass of a neutron star is 20 kilometers or 12.4 miles they are so
dense that if u get a teaspoon it would weigh a billion tons now that is a lot usually a car is like 4 tons
now imagine billion tons now if the neutron star survives its supernova the it gets way more
interesting. the fourth star is the average star An average star, or intermediate mass star, is a star with
an initial mass of 0.5 to 8 times that of Earth s sun. It spends most of its time on the main sequence as
an orange, yellow, or blue white dwarf star. now there are many average stars when u look up in the
sky half of these stars are and average stars.but did u know that they all come from a nebula. They are
mind when the nebula starts to collapse over its own mass.

Casey Martin Case Summary
Facts:
Casey Martin is a talented golfer with many achievements throughout his golf career. He also has a
disability under the ADA, known as the Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, affecting the flow of
blood from this right leg back to his heart. The disease is progressive, causing severe pain, where if he
walked an 18 hole golf course, it would create a risk of hemorrhaging, developing blood clots, etc.
When Martin became a professional golfer, he qualified for the final round of the qualifying
competition. He made a request to use a golf cart during the professional tours, supporting his
reasoning with medical records; PGA Tour, Inc. refused because the competitive nature of the game
would be fundamentally altered if Martin were given an unfair advantage.
Martin filed a suit under Title III of the ADA, which requires that an entity operating public

Mitral Valve Prolapse Research Paper
Mitral Valve Prolapse
Located in between the left atrium and the left ventricle is the bicuspid or better known as the mitral
valve. The mitral valve works to prevent the back flow of blood into the left atrium once it enters the
left ventricle. This action may become hindered when the mitral valve prolapses or in other words the
valve becomes floppy and is no longer strong or tough enough to handle the normal stresses brought
upon it. This condition is known as Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP). It is said to be one of the most
common cardiac abnormalities in the general population, effecting 2 3%, approximately 7.8 million

The Many Identities of Hamlet in Hamlet by William Shakespeare
In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the protagonist, Price Hamlet, uses several ways to
defend himself against his oedipal desires, his animosity towards his uncle, as well as his own inner
conflict . Hamlet s hatred towards Claudius stems from two crimes committed; Claudius murder of his
brother and his incest with Hamlet s mother. Because of the seriousness of both crimes, as well as the
fact that both persons affected are closely related, there is evidence of an interrelation between both of
the crimes; which can further explains Hamlet s reaction. Following his father, King Hamlet s death,
his mother, Gertrude proceeds to marry his Uncle Claudius; this causes ... Show more content on

Furthermore, the idea of sexuality being connected with Hamlet s mother can be seen in comparison to
Hamlet s association between Ophelia and erotic desire. In essence, Hamlet is reverting to a more
infantile mind frame when associating Gertrude with Ophelia, subconsciously trying to defend himself
against his unresolved Oedipal desires towards his mother. However, when King Hamlet dies and
Gertrude remarries, Hamlet s repulsion of his mother is transmitted to Ophelia, causing Hamlet to
completely reject her.
Hamlet s oedipal desires for his mother, Gertrude, emerge following his father s death. However,
contrary to the natural course of the Oedipus Complex, where Hamlet would replace his father,
Gertrude marries another man; namely, his Uncle Claudius. In this respect, Claudius now not only
represents Hamlet s object of vengeance, but represents Hamlet, himself. The familial image of his
father s own brother being intimate with his mother reflects Hamlet s own incestuous desires as well;
this can be seen as the root of Hamlet s inner conflict. By killing his Uncle, he would be
subconsciously killing himself as well. For this reason, Hamlet has extreme difficulty carrying out the
murder of his uncle. Throughout the play Hamlet searches for excuses to procrastinate the deed of
killing his father s murderer. His use of cowardice, doubt of his uncle s guilt and even the

The Path Of An Instructional Designer Because
When I joined the United State Air Force in 2004, I quickly learned how easy it is to pass the blame. I
noticed early in my military career, that broken processes were often ignored. Meanwhile, the person
at the tactical level of the process was blamed for the result. After all the punishments are dealt out,
new employees are assigned to the project, and all the smoke clears, the same problems seem to
persist. When I suspect a process is inefficient, I feel a strong urge to find out why these issues exist
and then find solutions. This is often a pursuit that puts me at odds with some supervisors, but
cherished by some subordinates. It s not hard for me to recognize that most employees want to excel at

Teaching students to work on the B 52 aircraft in Minot, North Dakota during the dead of winter bears
some unique challenges. It takes a strong leadership ability to motivate students to perform hands on
task while enduring 30 degree below zero temperatures. In the Air Force s Non Commissioned Officer
Academy (NCOA) I was awarded the Distinguished Graduate for displaying that level of leadership.
I feel that underneath all the positional authorities of leadership, the true test is the ability to empower
people. This is the reason why I want to not only learn how to use technology in an education setting;
I also want to improve the lives of students with leadership. I believe that the educational technology
leadership program at George Washington University is the only program that perfectly meshes the
two together. In my opinion, human performance is the key to learning. However, it seems as though
education sometimes focuses on the information that needs to be taught instead of the outcomes. Dr.
Watkins publication highlighted this theory in previous work by Robert Mager. Watkins (2010) stated
instructional designers should move beyond determining what instructors should teach; rather, they
should focus on understanding what learners should be able to do as a result of the instruction.
Technology can serve as an excellent starting point for student centered learning.
Technology and leadership are the two elements that draw me to this program. There are

During a time when blacks were considered less than equals to whites, Jack Johnson refused to be
oppressed by racist America. He was both unafraid and uncompromising. He went wherever he chose,
did whatever he wanted, and controversially had sexual relations with whichever race of women he

As a boxer, Johnson went from being an unknown to the first African American heavyweight

have a separate statute specifically for them for new, original and ornamental design for an article of

Color and design must be associated by the customer for that particular product over time.
In 2004, the legal team decided to advance with option 4: Trademark protection. They claimed
trademark infringement, trademark dilution, as well as unfair competition and false designation.
Trademark infringement harbors a manufacturer or seller s product to include a word, slogan or

Ethical Issues Within the American Red Cross Essay
The American Red Cross (ARC) is an organization that was founded in 1881 by Clara Barton and

Numerous accusations on the mismanagements of volunteers and donated funds didn t end with 9/11,
but escalated following Hurricane s Katrina and Rita. When the overwhelming numbers of donations
specifically received for the relief efforts of 9/11, the executives made the wrong choice by going
against donator s wishes of how to use those funds. Also, the ARC didn t update their donation system
and was once again bogged down by the overpowering donations that poured in for Hurricane s
Katrina and Rita. On top of all that the ARC failed to get a grip on the financial disasters at its local

down to a prone position. In this phase, the same muscles are used as discussed in the pushing up
phase, except in the opposite direction. Stabilizers The muscles being discussed are needed to help
stabilize the body and keep it straight while doing a push up. The primary muscles being examined are
the abdominal muscles. These muscles are called the rectus abdominis. They are located in the
anterior trunk of the midline. This muscle is divided into two sides and is separated by the linea alba.
They start at the crest of the pubis and insert in the costal cartilages of the fifth, sixth, and seventh ribs.
There are six smaller sections that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This muscle is the only muscle that is on the posterior side of the arm. It is the agonist to the deltoids
during some movements. According to Lippert, the triceps has three heads: long, lateral and medial.
That is why it is commonly called the triceps muscle, tri meaning three. The long head starts at the
inferior rim of the glenoid fossa of the scapula and goes between the teres minor and major. The
lateral head attaches to the lateral side on the posterior surface of the humerus, just below the greater
tubercle. The medial head of the triceps lies deep to the long and lateral heads. It is attached on the
posterior surface below the lateral head. The body of the triceps are formed when all three heads come
together (Lippert, 2011). The action of the triceps brachii is to extend the elbow and the shoulder, and
create shoulder adduction. The origin of this muscle is in three different places, due to the three heads.
The long head origin is the infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. The lateral head origin is the posterior
surface of the proximal half of the humerus. Lastly, the medial head origin is in the posterior surface
of distal half of the humerus. The insertion is at the olecranon process of the ulna (Andrew Biel,

Gastroesophagogastric Analysis
First, dissection of the phrenoesophageal membrane and dislocation of the GEJ into the chest do not
alter manometric LES pressures. Second, selective myotomy of the clasp fibers or selective excision
of the gastric sling reduces LES pressure and compromises GEJ competence but does not totally
abolish these, whereas myotomy or resection of both structures abolishes the manometric LES and
GEJ competence.
Fig. 2.4, Schematic illustration of the muscular arrangement at the esophagogastric junction. The

This crus arises from the anterior longitudinal ligament overlying the lumbar vertebrae and encircles
the distal esophagus in a scissorlike fashion to form a 2 cm long hiatal canal. The proximal one third
of the LES is located proximal to the diaphragm and the distal two thirds of the sphincter is below the
diaphragm and intra abdominal. The extrinsic sphincter component of measured LES pressure is
formed by the striated muscular fibers of the diaphragm. The basal tonic pressure of the LES is mainly
from the esophageal components of the sphincter, and the superimposed increments in pressure during
inspiration are caused by contractions of the crural diaphragm. The magnitude of the increase in
pressure during inspiration is directly proportional to the force of contraction of the crural diaphragm.
During tidal inspiration, the increase in GEJ pressure is much smaller than during deep inspiration.
The crural diaphragm also rapidly contracts during events that increase intra abdominal pressures
(coughing, abdominal compression, and straight leg raising), thereby protecting against reflux that
might occur with these increases in gastric pressure. Both the LES and crural diaphragm relax with the
initiation of swallowing and the distal esophagus and LES are pulled 1 cm 2 cm upward by the
contractions of the longitudinal muscles. The peristaltic wave pushes the bolus in a distal direction

Essay Finding Meaning in The Turn of The Screw, by Henry...
At first glance, Bly appears to be a rather lonely place. The vividly bleak backdrop for The Turn of the
Screw houses a handful of servants, two orphaned children, and ghosts who fade in and out of view.
But there are others present who are less obtrusive yet just as influential as Peter Quint and Miss
Jessel. Peering into and out of Bly s windows and mirrors, engaging with the text and the lingering
trace of author Henry James, a crowd of real and virtual readers hope to catch a glimpse of a specter or
to unravel a clever Freudian slipknot that will tell them something: They may be looking for that
which they think James intended as the text s truth a transcendental center or maybe they
subconsciously wish to see a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lustig asserts that James s story uses its blanks to undermine all attempts to establish relations and to
join references into a coherent pattern (255). This coherent pattern is what the New Critics believe a
text s essential organizing principle to be, and that it is present in the text whether a reader notices it or
not. For formalists, a text s essential effect lies in the text alone and is completely independent of a
reader s response to elements that create effect in him. Likewise, Lustig s precise analysis of form and
subsequent deconstructionist reading of The Turn of the Screw does not mention what a possible
reader s process might be when faced with the twists of Bly. But for whom is the effect valuable, if not
the reader?
As Iser explains in The Reading Process, readers situate themselves within their responses, in effect
awakening [the] responses within himself (51). He further argues that if a reader were given the whole
story...his imagination would never enter the field, and yield nothing but boredom (51). To Iser, the
life of the text depends on a reader s participation in formulating his own response. More importantly,
Iser touts the unwritten parts, (gaps and ambiguities) of a text to stimulate the imagination, a process
that animates these outlines, and in turn...influence the effect of the written part... (50 51). Iser and
other phenomenological reader response critics depend utterly upon the reader

Parks Service provides services that are dedicated to preserving and maintaining forests, public land,
and natural beauties. Conservation of forests began in 1876, yet a department was never officially
founded until 1905. The National Parks Service was then created in 1916.
Theodore Roosevelt created the National Parks Service in hopes of preserving natural land for future
generations. The National Parks Service provides services including land management, fire control,

Minority Groups In The Last Stand
In the series X Men, it is apparent that there a lot of social issues that could be comparable to the
history, and even current realities, of minority groups in America. A main issue in every X Men movie,
which is especially noticeable in The Last Stand, is the negative attitudes and persecutions from the
humans, that the mutants have to live with on a daily basis. In many ways this is similar to the
negative stereotypes and prejudices that people of color, gays, women, and many other minority
groups have dealt with in the past and right now in the present. What differentiates minority groups,
making them an easy target of discrimination, is that they are simply born different from those in
power. It is no more possible to will oneself into

The Health And Social Care
Person Centred Values is an approach that respects and values the uniqueness of the individual, and
seeks to maintain or if required, restore their individuality. It means the person whom one supports is
able to be involved and included in every aspect of their care and support; and that the care provided
should be centred on and around the person, and not just their health or care needs. This is done by
creating an environment that promotes the personal worth, uniqueness, and social confidence of the
individual, as well as respect, independence and hope. I.e. Person centred values covers the total care
of the person.
There is no doubt that person centred care values must influence all aspects of health and social care
work, and should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to ensure that all individuals are treated as such, and person centred care should ensure
this.
To work in a person centred way, one must develop a clear understanding about the individuals one is
supporting. This includes their needs, culture, means of communication, likes and dislikes, their
family, colleagues and other professionals one may be working with; so one can promote and provide
person centred care and support.
There are 8 person centred values that support person centred care and support. These are:
Individuality
Assumptions should never be made about a person. The person should never have to fit in with you or
your organisation/employer. People should be allowed and supported to make their own choices.
Care and support needs should be tailored to suit each individual, by checking their care plan, to learn
more about them and their likes and dislikes, such as; what food do they like and want to eat, how
they want to be addressed (as one should not assume they can call someone by their first name), etc.
This shows respect by preserving the individual s dignity and individuality. Their personal beliefs
should always be respected.
Rights
Individuals in one s care should continue to enjoy the same rights as when they were living
independently. They have the right to say no, the right to have a relationship, the right to have a say in
their care and how they are supported, the right to choose what they eat and when, how they

Technology And Its Impact On The Classroom Essay
Progression, the ever enduring race of humankind to becoming better and more advanced beings, has
become interwoven with technology, as nearly all aspects of one s life, whether it being at home, for
leisure, at work, or in the educational sector is entwined with elements of digitality. This notion leads
one to see that the participation with technologies can be an essential aspect of one s progression in
this new contemporary society. The emergence and subsequent dominance of Information
Communication Technology (ICT) in this digitally mediated world has led to the need for digital
education in schools, which in turn can bring both potentials and challenges in divergent school
settings, as digital literacies bring differing values and meanings in relation to the setting they are
situated in. Transitioning from old to new literacies; digital literacy as a socially imbued construct;
digital divide; ICT out of school; educators and ICT; and implementing ICT in the classroom will be
discussed in order to extricate both the potentials and challenges with the immersion of digital
literacies in education.
Transitioning from Old to New Literacies
Over the years, as with most things, literacy too, has changed, transformed and progressed into a more
complex and nuanced construct. In the past, old literacies chiefly utilised alphabetic literacy, as its

The Organic Layer Of Sodium Chloride
The product of interests was able to eventually be separated due to extraction and washing using a
separatory funnel and later short path distillation. The addition of water and diethyl ether allowed for
the extraction of 1 ethoxybutane into the organic ether layer, and the sodium and bromide ions into the
aqueous water layer. This was evident by the disappearance of the precipitate, because sodium
bromide dissociated in water into its cation and anion components. In other words, the addition of
water quenched the reaction and allowed for no other reaction to take place. 1 ethoxybutane remained
in the ether layer because it was mostly nonpolar. The organic layer was on the top, and the aqueous
layer was on the bottom due to the heavier weight supplied by the bromide ion of sodium bromide.
Ultimately, the aqueous layer was washed away and the ether layer containing the desired product was
left. The brine solution was added and acted as a pre drying agent, where it extracted the water out of
the organic layer. In molecular terms, the water is attracted to the ionic brine solution and thus drawn
out into the aqueous layer. The addition of anhydrous sulfate dried the solution more and gravity
filtration was performed to obtain the final products of 1 ethoxybutane and ether. Considerably, it is
also important to note the purpose of the successive extractions of the aqueous layer twice with 10 15
mL of ether. This was due to satisfy the partition coefficient. The partition

Comparing Leslie In California, By Andre Dubus
Why is life so hard? What do we do to deserve these things that happen to us? No one deserves to be
hurt physically, mentally, or emotionally in life. Whether it s good or bad, life is going to happen. In
the stories, Leslie in California, written by Andre Dubus, and The Story of an Hour, written by Kate
Chopin, the characters in the stories are alike in some ways. Both Dubus and Chopin are an example
of someone who didn t deserve what life threw at them. According to TheFamousPeople website,
Dubus was married three times and had six children. He had four by his first wife, Patricia Lowe, and
two by his last wife, Peggy Rambach. As for Chopin, she was the only one of her four siblings that
lived past the age of twenty five. They both hit a rough patch in their lives at a young age. According
to TheFamousPeople website, Andre Dubus enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps upon his graduation and
served there for six years, eventually rising to the rank of captain. Dubus was obviously going in the
right direction with his life. To many people, Dubus at the time was considered a hero. According to
the CliffsNotes website, Chopin grew up in a household dominated by women: her mother, great
grandmother, and the female slaves her mother owned. On the CliffsNotes website it says, Kate was
born with the last name O Flaherty. She married Oscar Chopin in 1870, and he died in 1882. Which
made her a widow who had to look after six kids. On TheFamousPeople website it also says, In July

Ronald Reagan Influence
Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, is arguably said by many Americans to be the
best president in U.S. history. Ronald Reagan is the biggest influence on the U.S. since 1900 because

groups . Not only did Reagan win forty nine out of the fifty states in his bid for reelection in 1984, but,
he also earned five hundred and twenty five electoral votes. This counted as the most Electoral Votes
of any candidate in the history of the United States. The Election of 1984 proved to be a testament of

Quest For Meaning
Throughout the entirety of this course, I was able to truly think critically and deeply about faith, God,
death and meaning. This section of Logos was extremely meaningful for me because I think it is so
important to have faith in something higher in order to find true meaning in life. I choose to live my
life in a way that is significant for me because I do not want to depart this world without leaving
something behind. Legacy is important to me, but so is finding meaning within myself. The works we
read, watched and discussed guided and challenged my reflections so I could develop a clearer
understanding of my quest for meaning. After reading one of the very first readings, The Courage to
Be, I realized how influential death and meaning is on an individual s life. In the past, I always
thought those who feared death were focusing too much on the future and forgetting to live in the
present. I also thought it was senseless to fear death because it is inevitable. We are mortal beings: no
one is indestructible. Furthermore, I do not think I would want to live forever even if I was given the
opportunity; nonetheless, fearing death is a real issue. After reading about ontic anxiety, I developed a
more sympathetic understanding of this issue. Tillich s writing also expanded on my beliefs about fate
and death when he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Winston stood in fear and wonder of his father. Lord Randolph, a leader in the Conservative party,
showed little affection for Winston. Winston s mother charmed everyone with her beauty and wit. As

  • 2. Ethnographic Report On Medical Anthropology Originally I was planning on doing my ethnographic project on an area within medical anthropology or on the Exclusive Brethren. However, after attending one week tutorial I have decided that these topics are too broad and may be too difficult to research within the given time frame. For instance, my anthropological interests with medical anthropology lie around how indigenous groups use their natural environment . In particular, I am interested in the difference between western society and how we go to a doctor and chemist when we are sick and how some indigenous societies use their natural environment, such as plants from the forest to heal people. However, to cover this topic, I would find it significantly hard in New Zealand, as I don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The, Indian Man And Woman Eating By Theodore De Bry When the first time John White sailed to the North America in 1585, native americans would never be strange to Europeans. As an artist, during his time at Roanoke Island, White drew a number of vivid watercolors of the scenery, culture and the native people, which were published as A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. To Europeans, these works were the most informative illustrations of North America. After these works published, an engraver, named by Theodore De Bry, made a series of engravings directly from John White s paintings. However, the engravings were unable to be an accurate depiction of North America. If viewers watch them roughly, they are very similar, but there are some slight but crucial differences in detailed. The image Indian Man and Woman Eating by John White depicts a man and a woman are seated facing each other on a stipe of matting. There is a container with a bunch of circular fruits between their feet. It seems that each of them is covered by a clothing made by turkey feather in a certain style at that time. Their faces are flat with peace, but also there are some tattoos on their faces. The man s ears are pierced by a shell ornament and the woman tied with a bead knot. Behind them, there are standing a few plants. In the engraving Their sitting at meate created by De Bry, there are some changes appear: their facial structure alters, which looks more like Europeans; the muscle and right curve on their bodies are ... Company s update their policies from time to time and you have to abide by the changes. When I worked for the state of Texas we would receive multiple emails regarding policy changes and or updates. I had to abide by the changes. Privacy Rights Clearinghouse went over computer and workstation monitoring, email monitoring, telephone monitoring, mobile device monitoring, audio and video monitoring, GPS tracking, postal mail and social media monitoring. Employers are able to see what is on your screen, how much time you spend away from your computer and how many keystrokes per hour each employer does. Employers are able to discretely monitor employees with certain computer equipment. Employees may not know they are being monitored. Employers can review email content. Even though the message may have an option for marking an email as private, the company may still have access to the email. You should assume that your work emails are not private. Even though you may delete your emails, the company still has access to them also. Employers have the ability to monitor and listen to your phone calls you have with your clients and customers and they can obtain a record of the phone calls you make. • 6. Essay The Sadness of Poverty in Frank McCourt s Angela’s... The Sadness of Poverty in Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes It is not the rich man you should properly call happy, but him who knows how to use with wisdom the blessings of the gods, to endure hard poverty, and who fears dishonor worse than death, and is not afraid to die for cherished friends or fatherland. In the novel Angela s Ashes, (1996) by Frank McCourt, a life of poverty is the only life this family knows. It is a memoir about a young boy born in New York City. Frank, born ten months prior to his brother Malachy, was raised in a small apartment with his parents, Angela and Malachy McCourt. A dark haired boy with fair skin, little Frankie was forced to wear the same clothes day after day and be happy that he even had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon after that, she had a little girl named Margaret. Margaret lived for a month and then she died. That was the only month that Malachy never drank the whole paycheck and he never once came home late singing any songs. Angela loved her little girl more than anything, especially because of the way it reformed Malachy. After Margaret died, they moved to Ireland, hoping to get away from the poor streets of New York and back to their families. They found a home in Limerick, if you could call it a home. It was a room with a fireplace, a table, three chairs and a big bed. With a family of six, it was a tight fit, but after nights on boats and trains, it was heaven. Then came the fleas, which fed upon their slender bodies night after night. Frank McCourt has a subtle yet striking way of telling his story like it was; miserable. The way he described how little food they had and how close their family came to being homeless is amazing. When telling about the twins deaths he states it so simply, I know Oliver is dead and Malachy knows Oliver is dead but Eugene is too small to know anything. When he wakes in the morning he says, Ollie, Ollie, and toddles around the room looking under beds. . . . Dad says Eugene is lucky to have brothers like Malachy and me because we help him forget and soon, with God s help, he ll have no memory of Oliver at all. He died anyway. • 7. Hodgkin s Lymphoma Case Study The disease that I chose is Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin s lymphoma (NLPHL), a type of cancer, but specifically a type of Hodgkin s lymphoma. I have chosen this because a year ago I was battling it. One day I was a normal teenager and the next, I was getting to know the Hematology Oncology clinic that I d be spending a numerous amount of days in. Hodgkin s lymphoma can affect anyone, all the way from a baby to a 114 year old lady. But NLPHL usually affects 30 40 year old men, which I am neither. To say my diagnosis was a surprise would be an understatement. I had some of the symptoms, night sweats and low grade fever, but I didn t really have the weight loss or any enlarged lymph nodes, at least that I could see. Most people are able to not only see the lymph nodes, but feel the firmness of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chemo regimen ABVD is often used as a treatment for general Hodgkin s lymphoma, so I had that for four cycles. But for NLPHL, Rituximab, a type of immunotherapy drug is used most often, I also had this for 6 weeks straight. My doctors talked to doctors out in Texas to see the correct treatment for NLPHL, since it s a very small portion of Hodgkin lymphoma and not usually seen in teens, let alone female ones. The downside to treatment is the terrible side effects that most, but not all people get. For chemo they are, but not limited to, hair loss, mouth sores, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue. And for Rituximab the side effects can include headache, flu symptoms, joint and muscle pain, back pain, night sweats and nausea. These side effects are only the short term ones, the ones that go away once treatment is done, but there are many long term side effects that I ve yet to run ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The police, swarmed just outside the woman s house, were asking witnesses questions and looking for the suspect of a burglary that had occurred a few blocks away. The protagonist, Carolee, is frightened by this and decides to stay inside her home. While inside the house, she walks around aimlessly, glancing outside the windows when she spots an injured man in her garden. She hesitates to call the police and simply observes the man, ultimately deciding against calling 911. According to 2000 report, 2.7 million deaths and 1.8% all diseases worldwide could be attributed to inadequate F V intake (Najimi, 2013). Starting to eat well when young is important. Research has proven that interventions at a young age can impact good behavior such as good nutritional habits that get carried on into adulthood. Furthermore, ages 7 to 12 is when a child should get nutrients for growing. Therefore, the significance of a child s nutrition becomes more of a need than ever (Najimi, 2013). Examples of the benefits of kids eating healthy when young are good mental activities, prevention of problems and complications like anaemia, obesity, digestive disorders, and tooth decay and chronic and dangerous diseases in the long term (Najimi, 2013). The Many Identities of Hamlet in Hamlet by William Shakespeare In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the protagonist, Price Hamlet, uses several ways to defend himself against his oedipal desires, his animosity towards his uncle, as well as his own inner conflict . Hamlet s hatred towards Claudius stems from two crimes committed; Claudius murder of his brother and his incest with Hamlet s mother. Because of the seriousness of both crimes, as well as the fact that both persons affected are closely related, there is evidence of an interrelation between both of the crimes; which can further explains Hamlet s reaction. Furthermore, the idea of sexuality being connected with Hamlet s mother can be seen in comparison to Hamlet s association between Ophelia and erotic desire. In essence, Hamlet is reverting to a more infantile mind frame when associating Gertrude with Ophelia, subconsciously trying to defend himself against his unresolved Oedipal desires towards his mother. However, when King Hamlet dies and Gertrude remarries, Hamlet s repulsion of his mother is transmitted to Ophelia, causing Hamlet to completely reject her. Hamlet s oedipal desires for his mother, Gertrude, emerge following his father s death. However, contrary to the natural course of the Oedipus Complex, where Hamlet would replace his father, Gertrude marries another man; namely, his Uncle Claudius. In this respect, Claudius now not only represents Hamlet s object of vengeance, but represents Hamlet, himself. The familial image of his father s own brother being intimate with his mother reflects Hamlet s own incestuous desires as well; this can be seen as the root of Hamlet s inner conflict. By killing his Uncle, he would be subconsciously killing himself as well. For this reason, Hamlet has extreme difficulty carrying out the murder of his uncle. I believe that the educational technology leadership program at George Washington University is the only program that perfectly meshes the two together. Dr. Watkins publication highlighted this theory in previous work by Robert Mager. Watkins (2010) stated instructional designers should move beyond determining what instructors should teach; rather, they should focus on understanding what learners should be able to do as a result of the instruction. For formalists, a text s essential effect lies in the text alone and is completely independent of a reader s response to elements that create effect in him. • 29. Technology And Its Impact On The Classroom Essay Progression, the ever enduring race of humankind to becoming better and more advanced beings, has become interwoven with technology, as nearly all aspects of one s life, whether it being at home, for leisure, at work, or in the educational sector is entwined with elements of digitality. This notion leads one to see that the participation with technologies can be an essential aspect of one s progression in this new contemporary society. The emergence and subsequent dominance of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in this digitally mediated world has led to the need for digital education in schools, which in turn can bring both potentials and challenges in divergent school settings, as digital literacies bring differing values and meanings in relation to the setting they are situated in. Transitioning from old to new literacies; digital literacy as a socially imbued construct; digital divide; ICT out of school; educators and ICT; and implementing ICT in the classroom will be discussed in order to extricate both the potentials and challenges with the immersion of digital literacies in education. Transitioning from Old to New Literacies Over the years, as with most things, literacy too, has changed, transformed and progressed into a more complex and nuanced construct. In the past, old literacies chiefly utilised alphabetic literacy, as its main tool, such as the printing press, having ... privileged the written language over all other forms of semiosis, thus ... • 30. The Organic Layer Of Sodium Chloride The product of interests was able to eventually be separated due to extraction and washing using a separatory funnel and later short path distillation. The addition of water and diethyl ether allowed for the extraction of 1 ethoxybutane into the organic ether layer, and the sodium and bromide ions into the aqueous water layer. This was evident by the disappearance of the precipitate, because sodium bromide dissociated in water into its cation and anion components. In other words, the addition of water quenched the reaction and allowed for no other reaction to take place. 1 ethoxybutane remained in the ether layer because it was mostly nonpolar. The organic layer was on the top, and the aqueous layer was on the bottom due to the heavier weight supplied by the bromide ion of sodium bromide. Ultimately, the aqueous layer was washed away and the ether layer containing the desired product was left. The brine solution was added and acted as a pre drying agent, where it extracted the water out of the organic layer. In molecular terms, the water is attracted to the ionic brine solution and thus drawn out into the aqueous layer. The addition of anhydrous sulfate dried the solution more and gravity filtration was performed to obtain the final products of 1 ethoxybutane and ether. Considerably, it is also important to note the purpose of the successive extractions of the aqueous layer twice with 10 15 mL of ether. This was due to satisfy the partition coefficient. • 36. Quest For Meaning Throughout the entirety of this course, I was able to truly think critically and deeply about faith, God, death and meaning. This section of Logos was extremely meaningful for me because I think it is so important to have faith in something higher in order to find true meaning in life. I choose to live my life in a way that is significant for me because I do not want to depart this world without leaving something behind. Legacy is important to me, but so is finding meaning within myself. The works we read, watched and discussed guided and challenged my reflections so I could develop a clearer understanding of my quest for meaning. After reading one of the very first readings, The Courage to Be, I realized how influential death and meaning is on an individual s life. In the past, I always thought those who feared death were focusing too much on the future and forgetting to live in the present. I also thought it was senseless to fear death because it is inevitable. We are mortal beings: no one is indestructible. Furthermore, I do not think I would want to live forever even if I was given the opportunity; nonetheless, fearing death is a real issue. After reading about ontic anxiety, I developed a more sympathetic understanding of this issue. Tillich s writing also expanded on my beliefs about fate and death when he ...
