 Specification:
 Terra satellite in December 1999 significantly expanded scientific perspective about the
scale of tropospheric pollution.
 The MOPITT instrument onboard Terra is a nadir-viewing gas correlation radiometer
operating in the 4.7 µm band of carbon monoxide (22 km * 22 km)
 Aerosol retrievals over land from MODIS are described originally by Kaufman et al.
(1997).

 Satellite Name: Aqua (MODIS, AIRS)
 Specification:
 AIRS is a cross-track scanning spectrometer that covers the 3.7–16 µm spectral range.
 13.5 km nadir field-of-view.
 CO retrievals are conducted at 4.7 µm with a spatial resolution of 45 km at nadir.
 Volcanic SO2 also is being retrieved.

 Satellite Name: ERS-2 (GOME-1) - 1995 to June 2003
 Specification:
 Satellite remote sensing of the lower troposphere effectively began in 1995 with the
launch of the GOME-1.
 GOME-1 is a nadir-viewing grating spectrometer that measures solar backscatter with
broad spectral coverage (230–790 nm) and moderate resolution (0.2–0.4 nm).
 Spatial resolution of a ground scene is variable but is typically (40 km *320 km).
 retrievals of tropospheric NO , HCHO, SO2 and tropospheric O3 with sufficient accuracy.

GIS BASED  Article Name: Urban air pollution patterns, land use, and thermal landscape: An examination of the linkage using GIS  Area: Guangzhou  Specification:  Use Ground Measurements.  Use Landsat data for land use and thermal landscape combined with maps.  Use GIS for analyzing and Correlation Estimation>> Positively Correlated.  Thermal IR imagery could play a unique role in monitoring and modeling atmospheric pollution.

SATELLITE OVERVIEW  Satellite Name:Terra (MOPITT, MODIS, MISR)  Specification:  Terra satellite in December 1999 significantly expanded scientific perspective about the scale of tropospheric pollution.  The MOPITT instrument onboard Terra is a nadir-viewing gas correlation radiometer operating in the 4.7 µm band of carbon monoxide (22 km * 22 km)  Aerosol retrievals over land from MODIS are described originally by Kaufman et al. (1997).

SATELLITE OVERVIEW  Satellite Name: Aqua (MODIS, AIRS)  Specification:  AIRS is a cross-track scanning spectrometer that covers the 3.7–16 µm spectral range.  13.5 km nadir field-of-view.  CO retrievals are conducted at 4.7 µm with a spatial resolution of 45 km at nadir.  Volcanic SO2 also is being retrieved.

SATELLITE OVERVIEW  Satellite Name: ERS-2 (GOME-1) - 1995 to June 2003  Specification:  Satellite remote sensing of the lower troposphere effectively began in 1995 with the launch of the GOME-1.  GOME-1 is a nadir-viewing grating spectrometer that measures solar backscatter with broad spectral coverage (230–790 nm) and moderate resolution (0.2–0.4 nm).  Spatial resolution of a ground scene is variable but is typically (40 km *320 km).  retrievals of tropospheric NO , HCHO, SO2 and tropospheric O3 with sufficient accuracy.
