This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
2. Film logo
I used Charlemagne Std as the font but then I used the creative warp text and used the swirl effect
to each letter individually and altered there horizontal and vertical angles to create this logo. I
made the text like this to make it look like old writing.
3. Production company logo
I came up with the name of the company because I had just a black box so
I used the word onyx as the name. I created the logo using squares and
custom shapes. I first added in the boat which I found through custom
shapes I then created an ocean with rectangles that had been edit and I
layered them on top of each other. I did the text by writing out the name
and then I used the warp text tool and made it curve upwards.
4. Magazine cover
I have made images and increased the pixels
so that they look clearer and made a
background I have added in the film logo to
make the magazine look a lot more
professional and clean. Have layered the
character design on each one to create this
stacking effect. I have also designed a back
ground.
5. Pixel art
I made character designs that are
detailed for the cover. I also made a
background for the cover with
mountains. I have also designed a level
of the game.
6. Level design
I have designed a level for my game it has been designed as shelly the shamans hut
in the swamp I made it in photoshop and I made it with pixel art I made the trees by
creating one and then duplicating it. I made the dead trees in the same way and I
added details to these by putting vines on them and having the hang off the tree
the dark colour scheme was further exaggerated by the shading on them making
the scene look a lot more darker. I made the hut by building it off the swamp. I
originally did not put vines on the hut but it made more sense that it did to
exaggerate how old and destroyed it is. I made the fallen over tree by using one of
the duplicate tree and positioning the tree horizontal then make a stump to make it
natural
7. Character design
I first made the head on its
own so I could build the body
in proportion with the head.
I then made the body which I
made in proportion with the
head so that it was the
correct amount of pixels for it
to fit.
After making the body I made
the legs I made them in
proportion with the chest.

8. Character design Wyrm
Wyrm is the main character in the
Kingdom of Xilo. I have given him a very
simple design this so it will be easier to
animate. I layered all of the previous
designs over each other and then add
the colour of the character over it like
the brown shirt. I also add details like
the belt.

9. Character design Xuto
Xuto is a side character in the Kingdom of
Xilo and helps Wyrm’s. I made Xuto by using
the basic character design but adding more
to it like hair, a jacket and his own colour
scheme but still using the basic character
design.
10. Character design bandit
This is the design of a bandit from the Kingdom
of Xilo. These are the normal enemy's for the
game and one hit will kill them. There attack
takes off one health point.
I made the character by taking the original
head design making it thinner then creating the
helmet and face. I used the same chest and
legs for the design. I then combined them and
added a grey to make the amour look like it is
made out of steel. I also added a sword since
this will be what they are using to attack the
player
11. Menu screen 11/1/21
The menu screen was designed with
the logo and it is meant to be
looking over the black egg before the
battle.
I created this screen by designing the
mountains as a layer then creating
the sky layer by using different
shades of blue, then I made the grass
plain. Then I created the black egg
layer in the centre to add extra
detail. Finally I added the trees then
copy them and I added shade details.
I then added in the enter text and
then tightened it.
12. Level design 2 11/1/21
I designed this level off Shelly the
Sharman's hut she lives in a
swamp so the house is on stilts.
I created the trees by copying
and pasting them. I made the
dead trees by creating the same
thing and inverting it. I made a
layer for the background for the
sky.
13. Bus advert 12/1/21
I made the bus advert using different
creations that I have previously
created like the logo design menu
screen background and character
designs.
To make this I had had to re-design the
background of the menu screen like
removing the black egg and certain
trees I then added the text of the logo.
Then I increased the size of the
character designs of Wyrm and Xuto
then Appling them under the text.
After that I added the tag line
underneath the logo text.
14. Cut scene background 12/1/21
I have created the inside of shelly
the Sharman's hut this is the
background of the cut scene
where Wyrm meets Shelly.
I created this by making it in
photoshop and using pixel art I
created layers like the out side
layer and map layer so that the
back ground could be added.

I created this design of shelly the Sharman
for the cut scene she has a very simple
design so that it won’t be hard to animate.
I made it with the character template that
I had created before.
I made shelly the Sharman where a simple
black robe since she can use magic and it
will be easier to animate her with the
colour black since it’s a simple colour.

I created this design for the cut scene animation
this is standing still template for all the characters
involved I made this by using the original front
facing templates and counting different dimensions
to make the side profile of the character accurate.

I created a side profile of the main character
Wyrm then I used this side profile to make
the other walking frames.
The first walking frame has Wyrms right arm
up and left leg up I have done this in the
second walking frame as to make it more
natural like in real life.

the Sharman this is for the cut
scene in my game. I then created
the walking frames I did this in a
similar style to the Wyrm walking
style and side profile I tried to make
it look natural

will hopefully make the scene feel
more alive and adds to the gloomy
appearance.

I am doing wyrms part of the cut scene I started the cut scene on animate but I struggled to understand the
new software so I did it on photo shop it. Is very hard to move all of the separate layers together which has
made it a lot slower to make the product. I then turned it into a png so it would be faster and I'm in the right
position for tomorrow.
19/1/21
Today I have made the entrance of the second character Shelly and creating the dialog between them with the
use of speech bubbles being used. I found it a lot easier to animate her from what I learnt yesterday it made
animating today a lot easier to do and meaning I finished a lot earlier than expected this has given me time to
prepare items for tomorrow for animating. For example the fire changing shape. I will add small details to make
the video come more to life.

Today I finished my cut scene animation. I made the process a lot easier by removing excess layers and adding
small details to make the animation look more real. Another amin thing I did today was animating the fire the
way that I did this was I copied the background edited the fire to make it look bigger then turn the original and
edited background into a JPEG. I then added them into the animation and copied and passed them repeatedly
to then make a very good effect. This was very time consuming and took me most of the morning. I also added
extra diolog to the conversation to make it end better.
21. Menu screen animation 20/1/21
i created this menu screen animation
after finishing my cut scene animation
so I had prior knowledge of animation
skills on photoshop. I used a
background that I made turned it into a
JPEG then I took the text and made that
into a JPEG I then put them both into
photoshop and then layered the text
over the background I then moved the
background 5 pixels every time I copied
and pasted it to make a gradual moving
effect.
22. Magazine 25/1/21
This is the magazine design for my
gam I used the original design that
I had made at college and then
added details like the IGN rating
and the available to buy now the
title of the magazine. This is the
magazine cover design.
23. Billboard 25/1/21
I used the menu screen background for
the background of this picture but I
zoomed in onto two mountains then
added the logo text then added Wyrm
and Xuto’s character designs then put
in the available to purchase text in. I
wanted to make the billboard look as
minimal and lowkey as possible to
make it more appealing which is why
there isn’t as much text added to the
advert.
24. Character design silver serpent
I created this character design through
pixel art. The silver serpent is the first
boss in the game and it will defeat you.
The serpent was made on photoshop
and I used layers to help with the
details of the character.
25. Magazine new 26/1/21
I created this magazine with pixel art. I first created the
character design which is the character Wyrm but with
a lot more detail.
The way I made the design was by layering different
thing like his head his body and his legs I stacked these
and then added the background which is meant to be a
cave which is why he is surrounded by darkness. I then
added shading, I looked at the source of the light, the
torch, then saw how everything would shaded off it. I
then did the background shading which I did in rings
around the torch.
Once I had finished the pixel art I added the title of the
magazine “grunge” and gave it an empire effect where
it was over lapped by the picture, I then added the
Kingdom of Xilo logo a small amount of text not to
overwhelm the reader with information giving the
magazine a lot cleaner and slicker look.
26. Dryaa character design 26/1/21
This is Dryaa’s character design I created
it with pixel art. Dryaa is the main driving
plot for the story since she is how Wyrm
and Xuto can leave the army. Her design
is she's wearing complete armour and the
only exposed part of her body are her
wings on her back. I made her by layering
her head and body I then coloured the
body in and gave it markings to make her
stand out more than other characters.
27. Thrax character design 26/1/21
This is Thrax’s character design I made it
using pixel art. Thrax is the villain of the
story. I based Thrax’s design off the
emperor from star wars looking quite
weak but actually being very powerful.
He wears a mask and a cloak which
covers his entire body. I made him using
layers but he wasn’t difficult to make
since he has a very simple design.
28. Health bar 27/1/21
I made two health bars for this
game one which shows damage
taken and one which is full health.
The full health was the original one
I made it using pixel art and
layering for the different shades
for each one. Then for the damage
taken I get rid of the colour inside
one of the hearts then add a crack
to show a life has been lost.
29. Video game demo 27/1/21
I have created an animation on how a
level would look on my game it has
taken me the entire day to create it and
its not completely finished but it is
mostly done it just needs a health bar
adding. I found it less challenging to
create this animation since I was using
my prior knowledge of animating on
photoshop. And this animation was
probably more complicated than the
cut scene and menu screen animation.
The animation is meant to show the
range of motions wyrm has like a jump
a flip running and attacking, there was
also other actions like wyrm being
stunned if an enemy blocks his attack
and what happens when he takes
damage.
30. Video game demo audio 1/2/21
I have worked on my video game demo
audio today this is where I add my sound
effects in which I also created today.
The first thing that I did today was add
the health bar in the top right corner of
the screen then I turned the animation
into a video then. Added all my sound
effects in premier pro. I then started
recording different sound effects using
my like the walking sound effect where I
wore some of my shoes then walked in
them in my living room which has a
wooden floor to make it sound a lot
louder than it actually is or the whoosh
sound effect which was done by moving
a shirt up and down quickly.
31. Cut scene audio 2/2/21
I have edited and exported my
finished cut scene with the audio.
I used the audio from yesterday
and some from today to make the
cut scene. Like the door sound
which is just a closing door that I
recorded and the characters
talking is me speaking gibberish. I
didn’t find it as hard to add in the
audio since I had done it
yesterday and I could re use
sounds like walking.
32. Assets: heart 2/2/21
This is the heart asset this is what is
used to regain life’s. It drops at
random with enemy's it is uncommon
that it will drop. It will fill any missing
health points.

This is a you collect them to end the
level 50 of these must be collected to
entire the Kingdom of Thrax
34. Assets: coin
This is the most common drop
when killing enemy's this can be
used to buy upgrades for Wyrm
35. Poster design 3/2/21
I have made images and increased the
pixels so that they look clearer and
made a background I have added in the
film logo to make the poster look a lot
more professional and clean. Have
layered the character design on each
one to create this stacking effect. I have
also designed a back ground. The extra
detail on the characters is based off of
other pixel games which have more
detailed versions of the characters on
the front of them.
36. Menu screen animation and audio
This is my menu screen
animation I made this in
premier pro. I made it using my
menu screen animation and my
game sound track. The
animation is done to have the
background moving but the text
is still. It moves 5 pixels in every
frame.
