Adobe Illustrator CS5 Part 1: Introduction to Illustrator 2
Introduction
Adobe Illustrator CS5 is used to create graphics and type in vector format. Vector graphics are
made up of points, lines, and curves that are defined by mathematical equations. Vector graphics
are resolution independent, which means that they can be resized to any size without losing
quality. This handout provides an overview of the Illustrator CS5 user interface and vector
graphics, and covers how to create different shapes using the Pen tool.
Downloading the Data Files
This handout includes sample data files that can be used for hands-on practice. The data files are
stored in a self-extracting archive. The archive must be downloaded and executed in order to
extract the data files.
 The data files used with this handout are available for download at

Starting the Program
The following steps are for starting Illustrator CS5 using the computers in the ITS Training
Program computer labs. The steps for starting the program on other computers may vary.
To start Illustrator CS5:
1. Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Adobe Design Premium CS5.5, and
select Adobe Illustrator CS5.1.
Exploring the User Interface
The Illustrator interface offers many tools, menus, and panels that allow you to work in optimum
productivity (see Figure 1Figure 1). Each element is explained in detail in the following sections.

Application Bar
The Application bar is located at the top of the program window (see Figure 2Figure 2). It
contains the Menu bar (depending on the size of the window), the Workspace Switcher menu,
the Search box, and other controls. At the right end of the Application bar are the Minimize,
Restore/Maximize, and Close buttons which are used to control the program window.

Menu Bar
Depending on the size of the program window, the Menu bar appears either below or at the left
end of the Application bar (see Figure 3Figure 3). It provides access to many of Illustrator's
powerful commands which are grouped according to function (see Table 1Table 1).

Menu Description
File Includes the Open, Save, and Print commands.
Edit Includes the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands.
Object Includes command for controlling objects.
Type Includes command related to typography.
Select Includes selection commands such as All, Deselect, and Reselect.

View Includes command for displaying the grid and rulers.
Window Provides access to all the panels.
Help Provides access to Illustrator Help.
Workspace
The Illustrator interface includes various
elements such as panels, bars, and windows
that you can use to create and manipulate
your documents. Any arrangement of these
elements is called a workspace. You can
select from several preset workspaces or
create one of your own. The default
workspace is called Essentials. You can
quickly switch to a different workspace
using the Workspace Switcher menu on the
Application bar (see Figure 4Figure 4).

Panels
Panels, which are listed in the Window menu, provide quick access to many tools that make
modifying artwork easier. By default, some panels are docked and appear as icons at the right
side of the program window (see Figure 5Figure 5). Clicking a panel’s icon expands the panel
(see Figure 6Figure 6). Clicking the double arrow at the top of the dock expands or collapses all
panels. You can move panels by dragging the panel tab or panel title bar to the desired location.
You can also resize panels by dragging any side of the panel. Most panels have a menu with
additional options that can be accessed by clicking the menu button in the upper-right corner
of the panel.

Tools Panel
The Tools panel is located on the
left side of the program window. It
contains selection tools, drawing
and painting tools, editing tools,
viewing tools, type tools, the Fill
and Stroke boxes, and screen mode
options (see Figure 7Figure 7). You
can display the tools in the Tools
panel in one column or two
columns by clicking the double
arrow at the top of the panel.
Positioning the mouse pointer over
a tool displays the tool’s name and
keyboard shortcut.

Hidden Tools
The Tools panel groups similar tools together, displaying only one tool from a group at a time
while hiding the rest. A small black triangle at the lower-right corner of a tool icon indicates the
presence of hidden tools (see Figure 8Figure 8).
To select a hidden tool:
1. In the Tools panel, click and hold down the mouse button on a tool icon with a black
triangle, and then drag to the desired tool and release the mouse button (see Figure
9Figure 9).
NOTE: The selected tool replaces the default tool in that slot until another tool is selected.

Control Panel
By default, the Control panel appears below the Menu bar (see Figure 10Figure 10). It provides
quick access to options related to the selected object or tool. The options displayed in the Control
panel vary depending on the type of object or tool that is selected. When text in the Control panel
is blue and underlined, clicking the text displays a related panel or dialog box.

Opening a File
You can open files that were created in Illustrator as well as compatible files that were created in
other applications. Illustrator recognizes all common graphic file formats such as TIFF, JPEG,
GIF, PNG, BMP, and PSD. The native file format of Illustrator is AI.
To open a file:
1. Click the File menu and select Open (see Figure 11Figure 11). The Open dialog box
opens.

2. Navigate to the folder that contains the sample data files, select the Layers.ai file, and
then click the Open button.
Using the Layers Panel
The Layers panel is used to list, organize, and edit the objects in an Illustrator document (see
Figure 12Figure 12). By default, every new document contains one layer. You can create new
layers and rearrange items to best suit your needs. By creating multiple layers in your artwork,
you can control how overlapping objects are displayed. The artwork at the top of the Layers
panel is at the front of the stacking order, while artwork at the bottom is at the back of the
stacking order.

To practice working with layers:
1. To display the Layers panel, click the Window menu and select Layers, or click the
Layers panel icon on the right side of the workspace (see Figure 12Figure 12).
2. To hide or unhide a layer, click in the Visibility column to the left of the layer’s name.
An eye icon indicates that the layer is visible; a blank space indicates that the layer is
hidden.
3. To lock or unlock a layer, click in the Edit column to the left of the layer’s name. A lock
icon indicates that the layer is locked and cannot be edited; a blank space indicates
that the layer is unlocked and can be edited.
4. To create a new layer, click the Create New Layer button located at the bottom of
the Layers panel.
5. To delete a layer, select the layer in the Layers panel, and then click the Delete Selection
button located at the bottom of the panel.
6. To move a layer, drag the layer in the Layers panel to the desired location, and then
release the mouse button (see Figure 13Figure 13).

7. To rename a layer, double-click the layer’s name in the Layers panel to open the Layer
Options dialog box, type a new name in the Name box, and then click the OK button
(see Figure 14Figure 14).

8. To display sublayers, click the triangle to the left of the layer’s name. To hide
sublayers, click the triangle again (see Figure 12Figure 12).
NOTE: If no triangle appears to the left of a layer’s name, the layer does not have sublayers.
Vectors Graphics
Illustrator is an ideal program to create vector graphics because it includes tools and features
designed for vector use. Vector graphics are made up of points, lines, and curves defined by
mathematical equations. Since vector graphics are resolution independent, you can freely modify
them without losing detail or clarity. Raster images, on the other hand, use a rectangular grid of
picture elements (pixels) to represent images. Raster images are resolution dependent. As a
result, they can lose detail and appear jagged if they are scaled to high magnifications. In
general, use Illustrator if you need to create art or type with clean lines that look good at any
magnification; use Photoshop for images that need pixel editing, color correcting, painting, and
other special effects. Figure 15Figure 15 is an example of an image created in Illustrator. The
difference between a vector graphic and a raster image can be seen in Figure 16Figure 16 and
Figure 17Figure 17 respectively. When magnified, the vector graphic maintains its quality, but
the raster image looks pixelated.
NOTE: Figure 16Figure 16 and Figure 17Figure 17 are the same image. One is converted to a raster.

Creating a Cube
Illustrator can be used to create basic shapes such as rectangles, ellipses, and polygons. The
shape tools are organized under the Rectangle tool in the Tools panel. This lesson covers how to
create a cube using the Rectangle tool. It consists of taking two-dimensional squares and
transforming them to create a three-dimensional cube.
To create a cube:
1. Click the File menu and select New. The New Document dialog box opens (see Figure
18Figure 18).
2. Type Cube in the Name box.
3. Click the Units arrow and select Inches from the list.
4. Type 5 in the Width box and 5 in the Height box.
5. Click the OK button.

6. Select the Rectangle tool in the Tools panel.
7. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and drag the mouse pointer diagonally to draw
a square (see Figure 19Figure 19). Release the mouse button and then the Shift key.

8. In the Control panel, click the Fill box and select a fill color, and then click the
Stroke box and select a stroke color.
9. Select the Selection tool in the Tools panel.
10. On the artboard, hold down the Alt key and drag the square to create a copy (see Figure
20Figure 20). Release the mouse button and then the Alt key.

11. Repeat step 10 to create another copy of the square.
12. With the Selection tool , click to select one of the squares on the artboard.
13. Click the Effect menu, point to 3D, and select Rotate (see Figure 21Figure 21). The 3D
Rotate Options dialog box opens (see Figure 22Figure 22).

14. Click the Position arrow and select Isometric Left from the list.
NOTE: To preview the effect on the artboard, select the Preview check box.

16. For the two remaining squares, repeat steps 12 through 15 to set the position of one
square to Isometric Top and the other square to Isometric Right.
17. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and click to select the three squares.
18. Click the Object menu and select Expand Appearance.
19. Click the Select menu and select Deselect.
20. On the artboard, drag each square to construct the cube (see Figure 23Figure 23).

Tracing Using the Pen Tool
The Pen tool is the most versatile tool in Illustrator. It can be used to draw straight lines, curves,
and complex shapes. It can also be used to trace images. The following lesson consists of tracing
a raster image and converting it to a vector graphic.

To trace an image:
1. Open the Leaf.ai file from the data files folder.
2. In the Layers panel, create a new layer and rename it to leaf1 (see Figure 24Figure 24).

3. Select the Pen tool in the Tools panel.
4. On the artboard, click anywhere on the outline of the upper-left leaf to create the first
anchor point (see point 1 on Figure 25Figure 25).
5. Click and hold down the mouse button at another point on the leaf’s outline to create the
second anchor point (see point 2 on Figure 25Figure 25), drag outward to create a curved
path over the outline of the leaf (see Figure 25Figure 25), and then release the mouse
button.
NOTE: As you drag, direction handles appear on both sides of the anchor point (see Figure
25Figure 25). The angle and length of the direction handles determine the shape and size of the
curved segment.

6. Click the second anchor point to remove one of the direction handles (see point 2 on
Figure 26Figure 26). This removes any influence on the next anchor point.

7. Continue creating anchor points on the outline of the first leaf until it is completely
enclosed (see Figure 27Figure 27).
NOTE: If you make a mistake while drawing with the Pen tool, click the Edit menu and select
Undo Pen.

NOTE: To adjust the shape of curved segments, select the Direct Selection tool in the Tools
panel, click the outline of the curved segment to display the curve’s anchor points and direction
handles, and then drag either the anchor points or the direction handles to make the necessary
adjustments (see Figure 28Figure 28).

8. In the Layers panel, create a new layer and rename it to leaf2.
9. Use the method described in steps 3 through 7 to trace the second leaf on the artboard.
10. In the Layers panel, create a new layer and rename it to leaf3.
11. Use the method described in steps 3 through 7 to trace the third leaf on the artboard.
12. In the Layers panel, click the eye icon to hide the leaf1, leaf2, and leaf3 layers, and
then create a new layer and rename it to stem.
13. Use the method described in steps 3 through 7 to trace the stem on the artboard.
14. In the Layers panel, make all layers visible and position the stem layer below the leaf1
layer (see Figure 29Figure 29 and Figure 30Figure 30).

15. In the Layers panel, create a new layer, rename it to circle, and position it above the
leaf3 layer.
16. In the Tools panel, select the Ellipse tool hidden under the Rectangle tool (see
Figure 31Figure 31).

17. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and drag the mouse pointer diagonally to draw
a small circle at the center of the leaves.
19. On the artboard, click to select the stem, and then hold down the Shift key and click to
select the three leaves.
20. Click the Color panel icon on the right side of the workspace to display the Color
panel (see Figure 32Figure 32).
21. Click the menu button in the upper-right corner of the Color panel and select the
RGB color mode.
22. To fill in the traced shapes with a green color, select the Fill box, and then enter 110 in
the R (red) box, 190 in the G (green) box, and 68 in the B (blue) box.

23. On the artboard, select the small circle at the center of the leaves.
24. In the Color panel, select the Fill box, and then enter the RGB values 173, 209, 54.
25. In the Layers panel, click the eye icon to hide the leaf layer (see Figure 33Figure 33).
This hides the raster image of the clover and displays the vector-based clover (see Figure
34Figure 34).

Creating Complex Vector Graphics
A complex shape can be created by adding basic shapes together. The more shapes you add, the
more elaborate and complex the design will be. The following three lessons focus on creating
complex vector graphics.
To create a swirl:
1. Click the File menu and select New. The New Document dialog box opens.
2. Type Swirl in the Name box.
6. Select the Ellipse tool in the Tools panel.
7. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and drag to draw a circle (see Figure 35Figure
35).
9. On the artboard, click to add three anchor points to form a triangle overlapping the circle

11. On the artboard, position the mouse pointer over each anchor point of the triangle and
drag to curve the triangle (see Figure 37Figure 37).

13. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and click to select both shapes.
14. Click the Window menu and select Pathfinder.
15. In the Pathfinder panel, click the Unite button to combine both shapes (see Figure
38Figure 38).

16. Double-click the Fill box in the Color panel (see Figure 39Figure 39). The Color Picker
dialog box opens (see Figure 40Figure 40).
17. Click inside the color field or the color spectrum to select a fill color.

18. Click the OK button to apply the selected color to the swirl (see Figure 41Figure 41).

To create circle patterns:
2. Type Circle Pattern in the Name box.
7. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and drag to draw a circle.
9. Click to select the circle on the artboard.
10. In the Color panel, select the Fill box, and then click inside the color spectrum bar or
drag the color sliders to apply a fill color to the circle (see Figure 42Figure 42).
11. Click the Edit menu and select Copy, and then click the Edit menu and select Paste in
Front to duplicate the circle.
12. On the artboard, hold down Shift+Alt and drag a corner of the circle’s bounding box
toward the center to create the inner circle (see Figure 43Figure 43).
NOTE: To show the bounding box, click the View menu and select Show Bounding Box.

13. In the Control panel, click the Fill box and select a fill color to apply to the inner
circle.
14. Repeat the process to create multiple circles (see Figure 44Figure 44).

To create blend patterns:
2. Type Circle Blend in the Name box.
10. In the Control panel, click the Fill box and select a fill color, and then click the
Stroke box and select None to remove the stroke (see Figure 45Figure 45).

11. On the artboard, hold down the Alt key and drag the circle to create a copy (see Figure
46Figure 46).

12. In the Control panel, click the Fill box and select a different fill color for the new
circle.

13. Click the Object menu, point to Blend, and select Blend Options. The Blend Options
dialog box opens (see Figure 47Figure 47).
14. Click the Spacing arrow and select Specified Steps, and then type 2 in the text box for
the number of steps.

Creating a Cartoon Character
This handout covers how to create basic shapes because they are the foundation of any type of
artwork. Complex vector graphics are created by combining basic shapes. This lesson covers
how to create a cartoon character using basic shapes.
To create a cartoon character:
2. Type Cartoon in the Name box.
3. Click the New Document Profile arrow and select Web from the list.
4. Click the Size arrow and select 640 x 480 from the list.
5. Next to Orientation, click the Portrait button .
8. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and drag to draw a circle (see Figure 49Figure
49).
10. On the artboard, drag to draw a rectangle overlapping the circle (see Figure 49Figure 49).
NOTE: To display the grid, click the View menu and select Show Grid.

11. In the Tools panel, select the Add Anchor Point tool hidden under the Pen tool.
12. On the artboard, click to add three evenly spaced anchor points at the bottom of the
rectangle (see Figure 50Figure 50).

13. Select the Direct Selection tool in the Tools panel.
14. Drag the left and right anchor points up to create a jagged edge (see Figure 51Figure 51).

16. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and click to select both shapes.
18. In the Pathfinder panel, click the Unite button to combine both shapes (see Figure
52Figure 52).

19. To create the eyes, select the Ellipse tool in the Tools panel.
Front to duplicate the circle.
24. On the artboard, hold down Shift+Alt and drag a corner of the circle’s bounding box
toward the center to create the inner circle (see Figure 53Figure 53).

25. Drag the inner circle closer to the right side of the outer circle (see Figure 54Figure 54).

26. Click to select the outer circle on the artboard.
27. In the Control panel, click the Fill box and select White.

down the Alt key and drag the shapes to create a copy (see Figure 55Figure 55).

Adobe Illustrator CS5 Part 2: Vector Graphic Effects 2
Introduction
quality. This handout covers vector graphic effects which include text, color gradient, and gloss
effects. The lessons include creating an icon and a customized t-shirt design.
Text Effects
Illustrator can be used to create text in vector format. In addition, you can apply different text
effects to fit any project.
Creating Text with Effects
The first step in creating text effects is to create a new Illustrator document and create the text
using the Type tool. The finished product in this lesson is intended to be printed. For this reason,
the New Document Profile will be set to Print which uses a default letter size artboard.
To create text with effects:
1Figure 1).
2. Type Text in the Name box.
3. Select Print from the New Document Profile list.
4. Select Letter from the Size list.
5. Next to Orientation, click the Landscape button .

7. Select the Type tool in the Tools panel.
8. Click in the center of the artboard and type FRESH.
9. With the Selection tool , select the text on the artboard.
10. In the Control panel, select Poplar Std Black from the Font list, enter 250 pt in the
Font Size box, and click the Stroke box and select None (see Figure 2Figure 2).

11. In the Control panel, click Align to display the Align panel (see Figure 3Figure 3).
12. Under Align To, select Align to Artboard.
13. Under Align Objects, select Horizontal Align Center and Vertical Align Center to
center the text (see Figure 4Figure 4).

14. In the Layers panel, double-click the layer’s name to open the Layer Options dialog
box, type 1 in the Name box, and then click the OK button to rename the layer (see
Figure 5Figure 5).

15. Click the Layers panel menu located in the upper-right corner of the panel and select
Duplicate to duplicate the layer.
16. Rename the 1 copy layer to 2.
18. Click the Effect menu, point to Path, and select Offset Path. The Offset Path dialog box
opens (see Figure 6Figure 6).
19. Type 10 pt in the Offset box, and then click the OK button.

20. In the Layers panel, duplicate layer 2 and rename the new layer to 3.
22. Repeat step 18 to open the Offset Path dialog box, type 10 pt in the Offset box, and then
click the OK button.
23. In the Layers panel, duplicate layer 3 and rename the new layer to 4.
25. Repeat step 18 to open the Offset Path dialog box, type 10 pt in the Offset box, and then
click the OK button.
26. In the Layers panel, drag each layer to reposition layer 1 at the top, followed by layer 2,
layer 3, and then layer 4 (see Figure 7Figure 7).

27. Click the Target icon on layer 1 to target the layer (see Figure 8Figure 8). A double ring
icon in the Target column indicates that the item is targeted; a single ring icon indicates
that the item is not targeted.
28. Hold down the Alt key and click the Eye icon to the left of layer 1 to hide all other layers

Adding Color to Text
Once the text is created, the next step is to add color by creating outlines and filling them with a
gradient.
To add color to the text:
1. Click the Type menu and select Create Outlines.
2. In the Gradient panel, click the Gradient Fill box and enter 90 in the Angle box (see
Figure 9Figure 9).

3. Double-click the black Gradient Stop (see Figure 9Figure 9). The Color panel opens.
4. Click the Color panel menu in the upper-right corner of the panel and select RGB.

Adding Effects to Text
Once the text has color and a gradient fill, the next step is to add effects. In this lesson, a shadow
is applied to each layer to make the text pop out.
To add effects to the text:
1. In the Layers panel, target layer 1.
2. In the Appearance panel, click the Add New Effect button , point to Stylize, and
select Drop Shadow (see Figure 13Figure 13). The Drop Shadow dialog box opens (see

then position it above layer 1.

Gradient Effects
Objects with solid colors are said to be flat. Applying a gradient is a great way to create objects
with a three-dimensional look. Gradient fills are graduated blends of two or more colors.
This lesson consists of creating a flower and applying gradients to the petals to give the flower a
natural look.
Creating a Flower
The first step in creating a flower is to create a petal. The rest of the flower is created by copying
and rotating the petal.
To create a flower:
2. Type Flower in the Name box.
8. On the artboard, create a petal (see Figure 19Figure 19).

9. With the Selection tool , select the petal on the artboard.
10. Select the Rotate tool in the Tools panel.
11. On the artboard, click below the tip of the petal to reposition the reference point (see
NOTE: Rotating an object turns it around a reference point.

12. To create another petal, hold down the Alt key and drag the petal in a circular motion to
rotate a copy of the petal (see Figure 21Figure 21). Release the mouse button and then the
Alt key.

13. Continue copying and rotating each petal to create a flower (see Figure 22Figure 22).

Applying Gradients to the Flower
The next step is to add color to the flower by applying gradients.
To apply a gradient:
1. With the Selection tool , select one of the petals on the artboard.
2. Double-click the Gradient tool in the Tools panel.
3. Click the Gradient Fill box in the Gradient panel (see Figure 23Figure 23). A black and
white gradient is applied to the selected petal.

4. Double-click the left Gradient Stop to open the Color panel, and enter the RGB values
241, 90, 36 (see Figure 24Figure 24).
NOTE: To display the RGB color mode in the Color panel, click the Color panel menu and
select RGB.

5. Double-click the right Gradient Stop, and enter the RGB values 255, 255, 255.
6. Position the mouse pointer slightly below the bottom edge of the Gradient Slider, and
when the pointer changes to a white arrow with a plus sign , click to add a Gradient
Stop in the middle of the Gradient Slider.
7. Double-click the center Gradient Stop, and enter the RGB values 251, 176, 59 (see
Figure 25 – Gradient Panel Settings for the Petal
8. On the artboard, position the mouse pointer just off the small white square on the
Gradient Annotator, and when the pointer changes to the rotation icon , drag to rotate
the white side of the gradient toward the center of the flower (see Figure 26Figure 26).

9. With the Selection tool , hold down the Shift key and click to select all the petals on
the artboard.
10. With the Eyedropper tool , click the petal that has a gradient fill. The same gradient
is applied to all the petals.
11. With the Gradient tool , rotate the gradient for all the petals to have the white side of
the gradient toward the center of the flower (see Figure 27Figure 27).

12. In the Tools panel, select the Star tool hidden under the Rectangle tool.
13. On the artboard, drag to create a thin star in the center of the flower (see Figure 28Figure
28). Hold down the Ctrl key as you drag to modify the shape of the star.

16. Double-click the left Gradient Stop, and enter the RGB values 255, 247, 169.
17. Double-click the center Gradient Stop, and enter the RGB values 255, 241, 0.

Drawing a Flower Stem
The next step is to create a stem for the flower by using the Pen tool and by applying a gradient.
To draw a flower stem:
1. Select the Pen tool in the Tools panel, and draw a stem on the artboard (see Figure
32Figure 32).

3. In the Gradient panel, click the Gradient Fill box, and select Linear from the Type list.
7. Drag to position the Gradient Stops as shown in Figure 33Figure 33. See Figure

Gloss Effect
Adding gloss to a graphic enhances the visual look. Gloss makes graphics pop out, which in a
sense takes a flat object and coverts it to a three-dimensional object. Gloss can be added to any
shape such as a button or an icon, or in this case, a ball.

Creating a Ball
The first step in creating a glossy ball is to create a circle using the Ellipse tool.
To create a ball:
2. Type Glossy Ball in the Name box.
3. Select Web from the New Document Profile list.
4. Select 640 x 480 from the Size list.
Applying a Gradient to the Ball
The next step in creating a glossy ball is to add color to the circle. A solid color will not work
because it will just make the image look like a colored circle. Instead, a gradient will be applied
to make the circle look like a sphere.
To apply a gradient to the ball:
1. With the Selection tool , select the circle on the artboard.
4. Click below the bottom edge of the Gradient Slider to add a Gradient Stop between the
center and the right edge of the Gradient Slider (see Figure 35Figure 35).
5. Double-click the left Gradient Stop to open the Color panel, and enter the RGB values
252, 228, 33.
NOTE: To display the RGB color mode in the Color panel, click the Color panel menu and
select RGB.

8. In the Color panel, click the Stroke box, and enter the RGB values 255, 255, 0 (see

Adding Gloss to the Ball
The last step in creating a glossy ball is to add gloss. Gloss is created by drawing an ellipse and
adding a gradient to it. The trick to creating gloss is to change the Blending Mode.
To add gloss to the ball:
2. On the artboard, drag to draw an ellipse to represent the gloss (see Figure 38Figure 38).

3. To create the gloss effect, double-click the Gradient tool in the Tools panel.
4. In the Gradient panel, click the Gradient Fill box, and select Linear from the Type list
5. Double-click the left Gradient Stop, and enter the RGB values 0, 0, 0 (black).
6. Double-click the right Gradient Stop, and enter the RGB values 255, 255, 255 (white).
NOTE: If there are any other Gradient Stops on the Gradient Slider, remove them by selecting
them and then clicking the Delete Stop button .

7. On the artboard, position the mouse pointer just off the small white square on the
Gradient Annotator, and when the pointer changes to the rotation icon , drag to
position it vertically (see Figure 40Figure 40).

8. Position the mouse pointer directly over the Gradient Annotator to turn it into a slider,
and then drag the arrow end of the Gradient Slider to resize it to fit within the ellipse

9. In the Control panel, click the Stroke box and select None to remove the stroke
from the ellipse.
10. With the Selection tool , position the ellipse near the top of the ball (see Figure
42Figure 42).

11. In the Transparency panel, select Screen from the Blending Mode list, and lower the
Opacity level (see Figure 43Figure 43).

12. To enhance the gloss effect, create two white ellipses with no stroke to add glare to the

Icons
With mobile applications or apps becoming very popular and new ones coming out every day,
the need for icons has increased. Icons can be set to represent a program, an app, or even a link
to a website.
Creating an Icon
The first step in creating an icon is to create a new Illustrator document. The New Document
Profile will be set to Web because the icon is intended to be viewed on the screen. The icon
created in this lesson is a square shaped icon with a gradient fill.
To create an icon:
2. Type Icon in the Name box.
4. Select 640 x 480 from the Size list.
5. Next to Orientation, click the Portrait button .
7. Select the Rounded Rectangle tool in the Tools panel.
8. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and drag to draw a rounded square (see Figure
49Figure 49).

12. Double-click the right Gradient Stop, and enter the RGB values 0, 113, 188 (see Figure

NOTE: The Reverse Gradient button in the Gradient panel can be used to reverse the colors

14. In the Control panel, click the Stroke box and select None to remove the stroke.
15. To add gloss, select the Eraser tool in the Tools panel.
16. On the artboard, drag over the rounded square to erase a portion in the shape of a wave.

T-shirt Design
Creating custom t-shirts is a form of expression. The first step is to come up with a design. This
is the most important and probably the most time consuming step in the process. The second step
is to create the design in a digital format using Illustrator. This lesson consists of creating
graphics and text and using those objects to create the front and back side designs of a t-shirt.
The data file used in this lesson includes a t-shirt outline that is used as the basis for the design.

Creating the Back Side Design
This lesson consists of creating text and using the Golden Eagle graphic included in the data file
to design the back side of the t-shirt.
To create the back side design:
1. Click the File menu and select Open. The Open dialog box opens.
2. Navigate to the folder that contains the sample data file, select the T-shirt.ai file, and
NOTE: To hide the grid, click the View menu and select Hide Grid. To display the grid again,
click the View menu and select Show Grid.
3. With the Selection tool , select the Golden Eagle graphic on the artboard and drag to
position it in the center of the back side of the t-shirt (see Figure 57Figure 57).

4. Select the Type tool in the Tools panel, click on the artboard, and type CSULA.
6. In the Control panel, select Bernard MT Condensed from the Font list, and enter 300
pt in the Font Size box (see Figure 58Figure 58).

7. With the Selection tool , drag to position the text above the Golden Eagle graphic on
the back side of the t-shirt.
8. Hold down the Shift key and click to select both the text and the Golden Eagle graphic
on the artboard.

Creating the Front Side Design
This lesson consists of creating text and a simple mouse graphic to design the front side of the t-
shirt.
To create the front side design:
1. Select the Type tool in the Tools panel, click on the artboard, and type ITS.
3. In the Control panel, enter 175 pt in the Font Size box.
4. With the Selection tool , drag to position the text at the upper-left corner of the white
box on the front side of the t-shirt (see Figure 61Figure 61).

5. To draw a mouse, select the Ellipse tool in the Tools panel, and drag on the artboard

world examples. The lessons are centered around a fictitious flower shop and cover how to create
a company logo, a customized PowerPoint template, a birthday party invitation for an employee,
a company letterhead, and a business card.
Logo
A company is easily recognized by its logo. When creating a logo, visualize the company, the
clients, and the aim of the business. This will help in creating a logo which represents the
company. This section consists of creating a logo for a flower shop.
Creating a Logo
This lesson consists of creating a flower that will be used in the logo of the flower shop.
To create a logo:
1).
2. Type Logo in the Name box.

7. To draw a petal, select the Pen tool in the Tools panel.
8. Click anywhere on the artboard to create the first anchor point (see point 1 on Figure 2),
click and hold down the mouse button to create the second anchor point (see point 2 on
Figure 2), drag outward (see point 3 on Figure 2) to create a curved path, and then release
the mouse button.
9. Click and hold down the mouse button on the first anchor point (see point 1 on Figure 2),
drag outward (see point 4 on Figure 2) to create a curved path, and then release the mouse
button to complete the petal.
NOTE: As you drag, direction handles appear on both sides of the anchor point (see Figure 2).
The angle and length of the direction handles determine the shape and size of the curved segment.

11. Select the Selection tool in the Tools panel, and then select the petal on the artboard.
12. To copy the petal, select the Rotate tool in the Tools panel.
13. On the artboard, click below the petal to reposition the reference point (see Figure 3).
NOTE: Rotating an object turns it around a reference point.

14. Hold down the Alt key and drag the petal in a circular motion to rotate a copy of the petal
(see Figure 4). Release the mouse button and then the Alt key.

17. On the artboard, hold down the Shift key and drag to draw a circle in the middle of the
petals (see Figure 7).
18. Create three additional circles around and in between the petals. Leave the last space
open for the stem (see Figure 8).

19. With the Pen tool, draw the stem of the flower (see Figure 9).
NOTE: Clicking an anchor point removes one of the direction handles. This removes any
influence on the next anchor point.

NOTE: Use the Direct Selection tool to make any adjustments to the shape of the curved
segments.
20. With the Pen tool, draw a branch for the flower (see Figure 10).

21. To create the second branch, with the Selection tool, select the branch on the artboard.
22. Right-click the branch, point to Transform, and select Reflect. The Reflect dialog box
opens (see Figure 11).
23. Under Axis, select the Vertical option.
24. Click the Copy button to duplicate the branch.

25. With the Selection tool, select each branch to display a bounding box around it, and then
drag a corner handle to resize it (see Figure 12). Make the left branch smaller than the
right branch.
26. Drag to position the two branches on the stem (see Figure 13).

NOTE: When resizing the leaf, hold down the Shift key as you drag a corner handle to maintain
the leaf’s proportions.
33. To copy the leaf, hold down the Alt key and drag the leaf to another location on the
artboard (see Figure 18).
34. Right-click the new leaf, point to Transform, and select Reflect. The Reflect dialog box
opens.
35. Under Axis, select the Vertical option, and then click the OK button (see Figure 19).

36. With the Selection tool, resize the leaf to make it smaller than the first leaf, and then drag
to position it next to the right branch (see Figure 20).

Adding Color to the Logo
This lesson consists of applying color to the flower. You can use the colors provided in this
lesson or select your preferred colors.
To add color to the logo:
1. With the Selection tool , hold down the Shift key and click to select all of the petals
on the artboard.
2. Double-click the Fill box in the Color panel (see Figure 21). The Color Picker dialog
box opens (see Figure 22).

3. Enter EC008C in the Hexadecimal Color box (see Figure 22).
NOTE: You can click inside the Color Field or the Color Spectrum to select a different color.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 to apply color to the rest of the flower. The suggested colors are
listed in Table 1. After applying all the colors, the flower should look like Figure 23.

Adding Text to the Logo
This lesson consists of adding the word flowers to the logo and changing the color of the text.
The flower graphic created in the previous two lessons will be used to represent the letter l in the
word flowers.
To add text to the logo:
1. Select the Type tool in the Tools panel, and then click on the artboard.
2. In the Control panel, select Nueva Std from the Font list, and then type F on the
artboard.
3. With the Selection tool , select the letter, and then hold down the Shift key and drag a
corner handle to increase its size.
4. Drag to position the letter on the left side of the flower (see Figure 24).

5. Select the Type tool, and then click on the artboard and type owers.
6. With the Selection tool, select the text.
7. In the Control panel, change the value in the Font Size box to match the size of the letter
F (see Figure 25).
8. Drag to position the text on the right side of the flower (see Figure 26).

10. Double-click the Fill box in the Color panel. The Color Picker dialog box opens.
11. Enter 27AAE1 in the Hexadecimal Color box, and then click the OK button.
12. Click the Select menu and select All to select all the objects on the artboard.
13. Right-click the flower and select Group.
14. In the Control panel, click the Horizontal Align Center button and the Vertical
Align Center button .
15. On the artboard, hold down Shift+Alt and drag a corner handle to decrease the size to fit
the artboard. See Figure 27 for the final result.

PowerPoint Template
Graphics created in Illustrator can be used in other programs. This section consists of creating a
background graphic in Illustrator, exporting the graphic, and using it to create a customized
PowerPoint template for the flower shop.

Creating a Slide Background
In this lesson, the flower graphic is used to create a background design for the title slide of the
PowerPoint template.
To create a background design:
2. Type Slide in the Name box.
4. Select Pixels from the Units list.
7. Click the File menu and select Open. The Open dialog box opens.
8. Navigate to the folder that contains the sample data files, select the Flower.ai file, and
9. With the Selection tool , select the flower on the artboard.
10. Click the Edit menu and select Copy to copy the flower.
11. Return to the Slide.ai document.
12. Click the Edit menu and select Paste to paste the flower.
13. Drag to position the flower in the lower-left corner of the artboard (see Figure 28).

14. Select the flower, and then hold down Shift+Alt and drag the flower to the right to create
a copy in the lower-right corner of the artboard (see Figure 29).

Exporting the File
This lesson consists of exporting the background design created in the previous lesson to a PNG
format so that it can be used in the PowerPoint template.
To export the file:
1. Click the File menu and select Export. The Export dialog box opens.
2. Select PNG (*.PNG) from the Save as type list, and then click the Save button (see
Figure 39). The PNG Options dialog box opens.

3. Under Resolution, select the Medium (150 ppi) option, and then click the OK button.
Creating a Customized PowerPoint Template
This lesson consists of using the graphics created in the previous lessons to create a customized
PowerPoint template.
To create a PowerPoint template:
1. Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Microsoft Office, and select Microsoft
PowerPoint 2010.
NOTE: You can also perform these steps using Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.
2. On the View tab, in the Master Views group, click the Slide Master button (see Figure
40).

3. On the Insert tab, in the Images group, click the Picture button (see Figure 41). The

Invitation
Illustrator can be used to create personalized invitations for different occasions. In this section, a
birthday party invitation is created for an employee of the flower shop.
Creating the Invitation Background
This lesson consists of creating a background design for the birthday party invitation.
To create the invitation background:
2. Type Invitation in the Name box.
7. In the Color panel, change the Fill color to RGB (142, 188, 229), and the Stroke color to
None (see Figure 50).

8. Drag to draw a rectangle at the top of the artboard to represent the header (see Figure 51).

9. Drag to draw a rectangle at the bottom of the artboard to represent the footer.
10. In the Color panel, change the Fill color to RGB (244, 152, 192), and the Stroke color to
None (see Figure 52).

11. In the Layers panel, click the Create New Layer button to create a new layer,
double-click the layer’s name and rename it to Background, and then drag to position it
below Layer 1 (see Figure 53).

Inserting a Graphic
Since this invitation is for a flower shop employee, the flower graphic from the flower shop’s
logo is incorporated into the design.
To insert the flower graphic:
1. Open the Flower.ai file from the data files folder.
2. With the Selection tool , select the flower on the artboard.
3. Click the Edit menu and select Copy to copy the flower.
4. Return to the Invitation.ai document.
5. Click the Edit menu and select Paste to paste the flower.
6. Drag to position the flower in the lower-left corner of the rounded rectangle (see Figure
58).

7. Hold down the Shift key and drag the upper-right corner handle to increase the size of the
flower (see Figure 59).

Adding Text to the Invitation
This lesson consists of adding the details of the invitation. The text is formatted with different
fonts, font sizes, and colors to fit with the overall design of the invitation.
To add text to the invitation:
1. In the Layers panel, create a new layer and rename it to Text.
2. Select the Type tool in the Tools panel, click on the artboard, and type Come
celebrate the birthday party for....
4. In the Control panel, select Pristina from the Font list, and enter 30 pt in the Font Size
box.
5. Select the Eyedropper tool in the Tools panel, and then click the tan rectangle on
the artboard (see Figure 60). This applies the tan color to the selected text.
NOTE: The Eyedropper tool is used to sample a color from a placed object and apply the color
to another object.

6. With the Selection tool, drag to position the text at the top of the rounded rectangle (see
Figure 61).

7. In the Control panel, click Align to display the Align panel, and then select Horizontal
Align Center to center the text (see Figure 62).

8. Select the Type tool, click below the first line of text on the artboard, and type Flora
Sacate.
9. With the Selection tool, select the new text.
10. In the Control panel, select Baskerville Old Face from the Font list, and enter 50 pt in
the Font Size box (see Figure 63).
11. Select the Eyedropper tool, and then click the pink rectangle on the artboard (see Figure
64). This applies the pink color to the selected text.

Adding Effects
Effects can be used to enhance the appearance of the invitation. In this lesson, a drop shadow is
applied to give the invitation a three-dimensional look.
To add a drop shadow:
1. With the Selection tool , select the rounded rectangle on the artboard.
2. In the Appearance panel, click the Add New Effect button, point to Stylize, and select
Drop Shadow (see Figure 69). The Drop Shadow dialog box opens (see Figure 70).

3. Enter 5 pt in the X Offset and Y Offset boxes, and 10 pt in the Blur box.
4. Click the OK button. See Figure 71 for the final result.

Letterhead
A letterhead usually consists of the name and contact information of a company, a logo, and
sometimes a background pattern. This section consists of creating a letterhead for the flower
shop.
Setting Up the Document
The finished product in this lesson is intended to be printed. For this reason, the New Document
Profile will be set to Print which uses a default letter size artboard. After creating a new
document, guides are placed on the artboard to help align text and graphic objects that will be
added in the next lesson.
To set up the document:

NOTE: Bleed is the amount of artwork that falls outside of the artboard. You can include bleed in

8. Click the View menu, point to Rulers, and select Show Rulers to display the horizontal

9. To create a horizontal guide at the top of the artboard, position the mouse pointer on the
horizontal ruler and drag down until you reach the 1 inch mark on the vertical ruler, and
then release the mouse button (see Figure 74).
10. Repeat step 9 to create a 1 inch horizontal guide at the bottom of the artboard.

11. To create a vertical guide on the left side of the artboard, position the mouse pointer on
the vertical ruler and drag to the right until you reach the 1 inch mark on the horizontal
ruler, and then release the mouse button.
12. Repeat step 11 to create a 1 inch vertical guide on the right side of the artboard. See
Figure 75 for the final result.

Adding Graphics and Text to the Letterhead
This lesson consists of adding the flower shop’s logo and contact information to the letterhead.
To add graphics and text:
1. Open the Logo.ai file from the data files folder.
2. With the Selection tool , select the logo on the artboard.
3. Click the Edit menu and select Copy to copy the logo.
4. Return to the Letterhead.ai document.
5. Click the Edit menu and select Paste to paste the logo (see Figure 76).

7. In the Control panel, click the Horizontal Align Center button and the Vertical

Palmer Wing, Room 4056 (LIB PW 4056).
9. With the Selection tool, select the text on the artboard.
10. In the Control panel, select Nueva Std from the Font list, and enter 12 pt in the Font
Size box.
11. In the Color panel, change the Fill color to RGB (96, 58, 23).
12. Select the Type tool, click on the artboard, and type itstraining@calstatela.edu.
13. With the Selection tool, select the new text on the artboard.
14. Select the Eyedropper tool in the Tools panel, and then click the brown text on the
artboard (see Figure 79). This applies the brown color to the selected text.

15. Select the Type tool, click on the artboard, and type (323) 343-5369.
16. Select the Eyedropper tool and click the brown text on the artboard, and then hold down
the Alt key and click the black text to apply the sampled color.

18. Select the Eyedropper tool and click the brown text on the artboard, and then hold down
the Alt key and click the black text.
19. With the Selection tool, drag to position the text below the logo and above the blue guide

21. Drag to draw a rectangle at the bottom of the artboard to represent the footer (see Figure

Exporting the File and Using It in Word
This lesson consists of exporting the letterhead created in the previous lessons to a PNG format,
and then inserting it as a watermark into a Word document.
To export the file:
1. Click the File menu and select Export. The Export dialog box opens.
2. Select the Desktop as the location to save the file.
3. Select PNG (*.PNG) from the Save as type list, and then click the Save button. The
PNG Options dialog box opens (see Figure 82).
4. Under Resolution, select the Other option and type 96 in the ppi box.

To insert the file into a Word document:
1. Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Microsoft Office, and select Microsoft
Word 2010.
2. On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Background group, click the Watermark button,
and select Custom Watermark. The Printed Watermark dialog box opens (see Figure
83).

3. Select the Picture watermark option, and then click the Select Picture button. The
Insert Picture dialog box opens.
4. Locate and select the Letterhead.png file saved on the Desktop, and then the click
Insert button.
5. Select 100% from the Scale list, and deselect the Washout check box.
6. Click the OK button. See Figure 84 for the final result.

Business Card
A business card typically includes the giver's name, company logo, and contact information such
as street address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address, and website. This section
consists of creating a business card for the flower shop.
Setting Up the Document
Business cards come in various sizes, but the most common size is 3.25 by 2 inches.
To set up the document:
2. Type Business Card in the Name box.
3. Select Inches from Units list.
4. Type 3.25 in the Width box and 2 in the Height box.
5. Click the up arrow to change the Bleed for all sides to 0.125 in.
7. Select the Rectangle tool , and then drag to draw a rectangle to cover the artboard
(see Figure 85).

8. Click the Effect menu, point to Path, and select Offset Path. The Offset Path dialog box
opens.
9. Type -0.125 in the Offset box, and then click the OK button (see Figure 86).

10. Click the Object menu and select Expand Appearance.
11. Click the View menu, point to Guides, and select Make Guides (see Figure 87).

Adding Graphics to the Business Card
This lesson consists of adding the flower shop’s logo and a flower to the business card.
To add graphics to the business card:
1. Open the Flower.ai and Logo.ai files from the data files folder.
2. On the Application bar, click the Arrange Documents button and select Tile All In
Grid (see Figure 88).

3. With the Selection tool , drag the flower and the logo to the business card (see Figure

4. On the Application bar, click the Arrange Documents button and select Consolidate

5. Click the Close button on the Flower.ai and Logo.ai document tabs to close the files

6. With the Selection tool, select the logo on the artboard, and then hold down the Shift key

7. Drag to position the logo in the upper-left corner of the business card. Make sure the logo
stays within the blue guide lines (see Figure 93).

8. With the Selection tool, select the flower, and then hold down the Shift key and drag a
corner handle to decrease the size of the flower.
9. Drag to position the flower in the lower-right corner of the business card and let the
flower bleed out at the bottom (see Figure 94).

Adding Text to the Business Card
This lesson consists of adding the flower shop’s contact information to the business card.
To add text to the business card:
1. Select the Type tool in the Tools panel, click on the artboard, and type the following

Saving the Business Card
This lesson consists of saving the business card as a PDF file and adding trim marks for the print
shop to use when cutting the business card.
NOTE: When creating artwork for multiple purposes, it is a good idea to create outlines of text.
Converting type to outlines eliminates the need to send the fonts along with the file when sharing with
other.
To save the business card as a PDF file:
1. Click the File menu and select Save As. The Save as dialog box opens.
2. Select the Desktop as the location to save the file.
3. Select Adobe PDF (*.PDF) from the Save as type list.
4. Click the Save button. The Save Adobe PDF dialog box opens (see Figure 96).

5. Select Marks and Bleeds in the left pane.
6. Under Marks, select the Trim Marks and Page Information check boxes.
7. Click the Save PDF button.
8. Open the Business Card.pdf file saved on the Desktop to see the final result (see Figure
