Theory Analysis And Skill Training
1. Briefly explain the concept of paradigm.
A paradigm is defined as the fundamental way in which we think and define reality. It may include
values and beliefs that influence our decisions on what is real and what is not. It is how we know the
things we know. It is our own awareness of ourselves as observers and knowers and may relate to how
we think and act in certain situations. It is also how we process what is real and how we present our
knowings to others. In a paradigm no right or wrong answers are presented but instead fundamental
assumptions are used.
2.What is the dominant paradigm guiding practice and research in special education? Explain a few
key features of this paradigm.
The dominant paradigm is known as the Newtonian Mechanistic Paradigm and is often referred to as
the machine paradigm. This paradigm views animals and humans as machines. Simplicity is very
important and all complexity is often broken down and translated. Information is arranged logically
and sequentially. The theory includes task analysis and skill training and has a focus on quantity
instead of quality. It also ranks human behavior. This method does not value personal knowledge or
individuality. It does not focus on the process of learning or students motivation for learning.
3. Can you cite any professional examples of mechanistic practice that you ve encountered? (or if you
are currently teaching, you may describe what you do that may exemplify mechanistic practice)

Mr. Boddy-Personal Narrative
It was 9:00 at night when the crime happened, but 5:30 a.m. the next day was when we got the case. I
am detective Kilburn and I have been called to solve it. The suspects we have for Mr. Boddy s death
are Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Green, and Mrs. White. Today is January 27, 1957 and I live
in the lovely place of London. I started to read the case file about how Mr. Boddy was found and it
was apparently one of his maids that reported it. There just might be a connection. It s the first day of
interrogation. I first brought in Colonel Mustard since Mr. Boddy and him were never know to get
along. He say still and stiff across from me. Okay Mustard, I m going to ask you some basic questions.

Comparing Erickson s Theories Of Success Or Failure
In 1905 Sigmund Freud theorized that childhood development happens in stages, which are called
Psychosexual Development Stages. In 1950 Erik Erikson developed Psychosocial Stages, which are
greatly influenced by Freud s theories. Freud s theory centers on psychosexual energy or the libido.
Erickson s theory centers on issues and tasks being met at specific ages. Even though we are sexual
beings, our developmental stages do not focus entirely on sexual pleasures. Both theories do show that
personality develops in stages. Although, Erickson s theory is the better theory.
A few differences, is Freud s theory focuses on sexual pleasure, and when failure occurs the individual
becomes fixated on that failure, which could lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The success of this stage is measured by the feeling of safety and security of our world. This will set
the child up for success for the rest of their life. The other side is failure that would lead mistrust and
the feeling of insecurity of the world around them. This will set them up to have issues especially in
relationship. McLeod mentions, For example, if the care has been harsh or inconsistent, unpredictable
and unreliable then the infant will develop a sense of mistrust and will not have confidence in the
world around them or in their abilities to influence events (McLeod 19).
The second stage is age s one through three. Freud called this stage the Anal Stage. The children start
to potty training and learn that they control how and when they go. This the only area that they can
fully control. This can develop two different personalities. Anal retentive can develop when potty
training is done too early or is too harsh. McLeod wrote, Early or harsh potty training can lead to the
child becoming an anal retentive personality who hates mess, is obsessively tidy, punctual and
respectful of authority (McLeod 14). The second personality is anal expulsive, where the potty
training was too lenient. The child shares with everyone around them. This is also where they can
develop either a good or bad relationship with authority. Erikson calls this stage Autonomy vs. Shame
and Doubt. This is where the child will be

The National Holiday Of Columbus Day Should Not Become A...
The national holiday of Columbus Day should never have become a recognized Federal holiday.
Christopher Columbus did not actually discover the Americas. There were millions of indigenous
people already living in the location that he was exploring. It is true he was an explorer trying to find
his way to the riches of the Indies and mapping his way for Spain and Europe however, how is it a
discovery when people are already living on the land? He didn t even make it to the location he was
originally trying to reach. He was also a brutal man that enslaved the people living on the land he
discovered .
We as a people enjoy having our holidays off and it has been a recognized holiday since enacted by
Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was celebrated in some aspect or another hundreds of years before then. We
are celebrating a figure that has been romanticized about for so long even though the truth of the man
is a very different story. If we dig further into the truth we will discover that it really makes no sense
to why we have a day to celebrate this man. As a nation we may want to reconsider either a different
celebration of this day or removing the holiday completely.
According to the Library of Congress the first recorded celebration of Columbus Day in the United
States took place on October 12, 1792, for the 300th anniversary of his arriving to America. At the
400th anniversary it was recommended by President Harrison that the United States observe the day as
a holiday. Then the

Analysis Of The Poem Migrant Hostel
Identity is moulded by a multitude of different sources, and this is demonstrated on personal, social,
historical and cultural levels. The intricacy of the relationship depicted in Feliks Skrzynecki , between
the narrator and his father presents a perspective on the author s personal identity. Post card illustrates
the historical perception of identity, representing a disparity of identity between the narrator and his
parents caused by a lack of presence in Warsaw. The perception of social identity is demonstrated in
The Shipping News , where the main character, Quoyle is socially disabled and unable to conform to
society. Cultural identity is shown in the poem Migrant Hostel , where the narrator explores the
different perceptions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quote, Watching me peg my tents, Further and further south of Hadrian s Wall illustrates the
above as well provides a reference for the irony that the poet is learning Latin instead of his native
language, Polish. Feliks Skrzynecki accurately portrays the perception of personal identity by drawing
differences between the relationships of two characters on a personal level. Skrzynecki s Post card
portrays a narrator who is a first generation immigrant, lamenting at the fact that he never experienced
his place of origin, something which he believes, is integral to his heritage and historical identity.
Throughout this poem, the poet is associated with a feeling of guilt as a result of his incomplete
historical identity. This is shown by the tone of Warsaw, Old Town, I never knew you, except in third
person. This is a symbol of the poet s disconnection to his heritage; that his information regarding his
identity s history is not his own, but in fact inherited from the generations before him. Historical
identity is also depicted through the differences between the poet s incomplete identity and his parent

Reflection About Intercultural Communication
Thanks to the development of the Internet and transportation especially aviation industry, the world
has become smaller and smaller. Nowadays people have had more chances to communication and
meet each other from all over the world. As a result, Intercultural Communication has been one of the
most important subjects at school in general and at my school University of Languages and
International Studies in particular. Personally it has been my most favorite subject this semester
because of both the useful knowledge of intercultural communication that the course has brought to
me and my teacher s effective teaching methods of conveying it through her lectures. After completing
the course I feel more confidence when communicating with people from different cultures.
Particularly I can apply some helpful information from the course to explain cultural differences in my
relationship with an English man and find solutions to tackle the problems occurring as consequences
of those differences. In this essay, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died
Emily Dickinson was fascinated by death and immortality; in her poem I Heard a Fly Buzz When I
Died she reveals her insight on a shared but unknown experience. A speaker, who is describing his or
her death from beyond the grave, narrates the poem, which can be interpreted with either heavily
Christian in its symbolism, or as the literal description of the dying experience. Dickinson uses the
poetry elements of symbolism, imagery and point of view to give us an ironic poem, about dying and
the afterlife, which leaves the reader unsure of what s on the other side of death. There is a
disagreement in the literary world over the meaning of the fly, its symbolism and relationship to the
speaker in the poem (Ruby 139). Dickinson might have used the fly in order to showcase that the
dying speaker was still aware of the physical world but his or her senses were fading as the body
surrenders to death With Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz (Line 13). The fly could also have been used
as an ironic symbol of death, decay, and human mortality. Since the fly is a creature that feeds and lays
its eggs in dead flesh. Some critics think that the fly has a more sinister and dark meaning. They
believe that the fly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

demon Beelzebub, the windows fail as the soul is dragged to the pits of hell (Hochman Para 3). In a
literal sense, the windows failing represent the speaker s sense of sight fading, as the speaker closes
his or her eyes for the last time and surrenders to the onset of death as shown in the last line of the

Comparing Eva s Story, Paperclips, And The Sneetches
During the Holocaust, obstacles in many categories were a commonality shared by many people. The
Holocaust is a horrid example of evil in humans. It was one of the most important events in World War
II and killed over 11 million people, including Jews, Jehovah s Witnesses, Roma, the disabled, and
homosexuals. Obstacles and how they are overcome are everywhere in Holocaust literature and films,
including Eva s Story, The Book Thief, Paperclips, and The Sneetches. In Eva s Story, Eva and her
family attempt to overcome the obstacle of hiding from the Nazis because they are Jews. Eva and her
mother, Mutti, hid together in multiple different houses. Her father, Pappy, and her brother, Heinz, hid
together in separate houses from Eva and Mutti so they would have a lesser chance of all four of them
getting caught. At one point, Nazis searched the house Eva and her mother were staying in. Eva and
Mutti were hiding behind a faux wall in the bathroom. Eva and her family were caught while
transferring houses which led to them being taken to a Jewish concentration camp. Eva and her family
showed courage in trying to hide from the Nazis, even though they were eventually caught. ... Show

The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie Essay
Since the nineteenth and twentieth century, there has always been a division between the wealthy and
unfortunate. During these times the higher class continued to prosper while the lower class remained
at the bottom, the separation continues to grow. Three men vocalize their views on the social division,
capitalism, and individualism. Andrew Carnegie, an industrialist, believed the rich should distributed
their wealth to benefit society while they re alive. Carnegie elaborates this idea in his article, The
Gospel of Wealth, written in 1889. Russell Conwell, a philanthropist, expresses in his speech, Acres of
Diamonds, men should utilize their surrounding opportunities to make themselves wealthy. Edward
Bellamy, a socialist, wrote Look Backward about a wealthy young man, Julian West, who enters
hypnotic sleep in 1887 and awakes 113 years later. Although, the men state similar matters their views
contrast, Carnegie and Conwell would most likely be critical to Bellamy s vision. Julian West is
educated and the third generation of his family to have great fortune. West s life of luxury succeed
through support from the labor of others, rendering no sort of service in return (Bellamy). When West
enters hypnotic sleep and awakes in 2000 he realizes the 20th century is very different from the 19th.
Bellamy s Looking Backward was vastly popular particular among the middle class. His vision is
desired by the middle class because it s better than today s world. Bellamy s vision

Friar Lawrence Character Analysis
Even the best of intentions can have tragic ends: a lesson well portrayed by the holy friar of Verona. At
a first glance, one would consider Friar Lawrence only a minor influence in the tragedy of Romeo and
Juliet. However, he is much more significant to the development of the play. Friar Lawrence acts as a
catalyst to further sequence love and peace. He is without a doubt, a very complicated individual, and
it is his complex nature that makes him such an interesting character. In William Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is seen as a tragic hero because of his noble status, his good intentions, and
his naive fatal flaw
To begin, Friar Lawrence has a high position in his society. When he is first introduced in act 2, he ...

The significance of this quote lies in Capulet believing the friar s farfetched story. Therefore, because
of Friar Lawrence s role in society as well as the effects he has on others, he is definitely highly

Secondly, Friar Lawrence s intentions are always for the benefit of others. He helps his fellow citizens
when they are in despair, such as when Romeo arrives at the friar s cell crying himself to death. The
friar responds, Thou shalt live, till we can find a time to blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends,
beg pardon of the prince, and call thee back (3, 3, 150 152). Here, Friar Lawrence acts as a mentor to
Romeo, and uplifts his spirits by guiding him through the difficult times of banishment. Friar tells
Romeo what he wants to hear because he understands Romeo s boundless love for Juliet, and what
may happen as the consequence of forbidden love. Moreover, Friar Lawrence has noble intentions that
give himself no personal gain. When he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, he says, In one respect I ll
thy assistant be, for this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancor to pure love (2, 3,
90 92). Friar decides to marry the young lovers not only to help his friends, but because he believes it
will end the long bitter feud of Verona. He only cares about the wellbeing of the city and the safety of
the opposing families. Lastly, Friar Lawrence always assists his fellow citizens in their time of
desperation. When

The Crucible By Arthur Miller
I saw Sarah Good with the Devil! I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil! I saw Bridget Bishop with the
Devil! (Miller 45). In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, residents of Salem habitually cry witch , driven by
dismay, suspicion, and retribution. Under a strict theocracy, where the court s ruling and religious
beliefs are exclusively bound to one another, death is practically inevitable for those branded as
witches, their names perpetually tarnished. From atop his high horse, one may look upon The Crucible
and harshly judge the irrational actions of Salem s community; however, human emotion drove these
injudicious acts, the very raw emotion that often overpowers logic in today s society. Though
theocracy has dissolved in America, one can never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fear that witches were truly among the community of Salem, performing dark magic and wreaking
havoc, propelled witch hunters to raid the town. Paranoia. The declaration of Salem s most admired
individuals to have been involved in witchcraft gave residents the excuse to suspect any soul of
wrongdoing. Vengeance. Jealousy and dislike spurred citizens to accuse their foes, utilizing witchcraft
to justify their personal vendetta. When Salem s women were stigmatized as witches, two groups were
born. Those who believed in the children s witchcraft allegations, acting primarily on emotion, and
those who declared the children of pretense, acting predominantly on logic. However, the group
motivated by fear, paranoia, and vengeance greatly outnumbered those driven by logic in both strength
and size. Thus this group, experiencing a psychological phenomenon called groupthink, can be held
accountable for the execrable Salem witch trials.
Irving Janis, a social psychologist, studied how social behavior is influenced in group settings. In
1972, he coined the name groupthink to describe observed behavioral changes in individuals
belonging to groups. Groupthink is characterized by a group s pursuit for unity, often resulting in
individual members disregarding or altering their own beliefs to coincide with the majority, or group s,
beliefs. This disregard or altercation ensures that the group stays unified; however, results in the group
committing illogical actions without considering

Charles Darwin s Radical New Book On The Origin Of Species
The coalescence of the publication of Charles Darwin s radical new book On The Origin of Species by
Means of Natural Selection (1859) and the American Civil War (1861 1865) brought about a dramatic
end to transcendentalism and the American Romanticism period that dominated the late 18th and early
19th Centuries. American intellectuals began to apply the knowledge gained from Origin of Species to
more fields than just biology. This dynamic understanding (evolution) of life ushered in a period of
Naturalism. Naturalist literature was based on the following four basic assumptions : The origin of
man is brute matter caught in a struggle for survival; Individual strengths and weaknesses are the

Norris offers a very pessimistic view of humans and society and that that humans are naturally evil to
the reader early on. The fact that Norris described his main character in such a painfully honest tone at
the onset of his story not only removes the veil of goodness, but reveals a man struggling to survive,
instead of thriving, in his environment.
A running theme in this story, congruent with the first naturalistic assumption of the struggle for
survival, is the desire for wealth and the eventual greed spawned from this consuming desire. Mac s
girlfriend at the time, and later his wife, Trina, won $5000 in a lottery, but was very frugal with her
winnings. Mac, who was never accustomed to wealth or high society, found this very frustrating and
after the loss of his business, every hour the question of money came up (Norris, 127). He was
unrelenting in his search for money. To McTeague, wealth equaled power and success. Norris
exemplifies the dangers of greed and how it can get the best of you when McTeague s anger and
frustration at Trina with his financial situation boils over, Miser, nasty little old miser. You re worse
than old Zerkow, always nagging about money, money, and you got five thousand dollars. You got
more, an you live in that stinking hole of a room, and you won t drink any decent beer (Norris, 135).

Object Relational Mapping ( Orm )
Object Relational Mapping (ORM) is a programming technique for converting data between
incompatible types in object oriented programming languages. ORM can be considered as a
mechanism that helps and aids in addressing, accessing and manipulating data without having to
necessarily consider the relationship between the data and the data source. Programmers can maintain
a constant view of objects over time and can adapt to application access or data delivery changes
while using ORM. ORM manages the mapping properties amongst a set of objects that have
underlying relational databases, repositories or other sources of data that simultaneously hide constant
details that have been changed in related interfaces from the developers and the code they create.
ORM makes it theoretically possible for developers to switch applications between relational
databases. Since ORM tools mostly rely heavily on metadata of both the database and objects, the
objects do not need to know anything about the database and the database doesn t need to know
anything about how the data is structured in the application. ORM provides a clean well designed data
application.
Advantages of ORM
The most important key feature of using ORM is the mapping it uses to bind an object to its database.
ORM performs the task of managing the application s interactions with the database. There are various
number of benefits to using ORM for development of database applications. The productivity
increases as during

observation sites were in different material, one being Criminal Law and the other being Immigration
Law and Policy, which may have been a limitation. This may have been a limitation because there
may be different students oriented towards these areas of law that could have affected their responses.
In addition, there was an unequal gender distribution of interviewees, considering that both were
female. In addition, these two sites provided different sample sizes, the first being twice as large as the
second, which may be a limitation when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another credibility issue at these two observation sites is a difference in rankings, since the University
of California, Irvine School of Law is the twenty eighth best law school in the United States, while no
rank is published for Whittier Law School. There was also a bias in choosing both these settings,
given that they are both situated in Orange County. I am also an undergraduate student at the
University of California, Irvine, so I was familiar with the campus and the navigating through the
course schedules.
Implications
The findings of the current study have multiple purposes for the legal education system. These results
can be useful for current law school professors and students interested in pursuing a legal education.
Data shows that rankings have an impact on the prospective decisions of law students and that it can
shape their opinions on where to go to law school, but rejects important variables that could affect the
student s experience at the school. In expanding the variables taken into consideration by these
rankings, the U.S. News World Report could provide more realistic ratings that enable students to
choose a college that would be a good fit for them. Data shows the main goal for law students is to
become professionals and gain knowledge, instead of practicing law. Based on these findings, it would
be important to educate these students more about the legal professional and other graduate programs
during undergraduate education. Also,

The Origins Of The Oldest Civilization
The oldest civilization was in Mesopotamia between two rivers. Mesopotamia means the land between
the rivers. Hence the name, Mesopotamia is found in the Fertile Crescent between the Tigris and the
Euphrates Rivers, which is now known as Iraq. Since the land was very fertile in Mesopotamia, the
crops grew incredibly well and that helped lead to the development of civilizations. Mesopotamia had
eight civilizations: Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, Hittites, Assyria, New Babylon, Phoenicians, and Israel.
Sumer lasted from 3200 b.c. until 1900 b.c. Sumer was ruled by a king who had the responsibility of
maintaining the city walls and the irrigation systems. Once the king passes, his power is then passed
down to the next eligible son in the family which is known as hereditary rule. Sumer was a Theocracy,
meaning that the religious leaders were in charge of the government and ruling system. The officials
or ruler of Sumer kept records, led armies into war, enforced laws, and collected taxes. The people of
Sumer were Polytheistic; they believed in many gods. There was also a large religious stepped
platform dedicated to every city state s chief god or goddess named Ziggurat. Sumerians came up with
the style of Cuneiform writing and in addition they used a system of pictographs for communication.
This helped them document and keep records. They also had ideas and theories of Astronomy and
math. Sumer farmed and traded and it had the world s first cities, Ur, Uruk, and Babylon. Overall ,

One out of every three Americans is obese and the majority of these obese people in the United States
have eaten regularly at fast food restaurants. As the obesity rate increases, the number of fast food
restaurants goes up as well. Although it is not certain, many believe that obesity in the United States is
correlated to eating fast food. Since the United States has the highest obesity rate out of any country, it
is important for Americans to monitor the fast food industry that may be causing obesity. With the
pressure to get things done in a timely manner, fast food became a big necessity. However, when

assumption could be because you cannot give the entire globe a single temperature. It is, naturally, an
aggregation of many localized temperatures, which must be averaged or at least used to calculate a
median to negate the effect of outliers. The aggregated global calculation inherently smooths out the
impacts of localized variances on the variability of the overall global value. Observation summary:
There is a greater degree of variability from the average in the temperature measurements of Seattle,

These are each representing the best possible fit trend line for each data set, which means this is the
best possible r2 achievable by any other possible trend line. Given these values, we can be reasonably
certain that the regression model represented by the trend line better fits the global temperature data
than the model for the Seattle temperature data. This matches the observation we can see in the graph
of greater dips and rises in the line representing the data set. It is reasonable to assume that, with more
data, we may be more likely to see a change in the direction of the trend line for Seattle (at only 68%
fit) than we would for the global trend line. This may affect data trends regarding how Seattle warms
in relation to the rest of the globe. Observation Summary: We should continue to collect data over
time in order to see if a better fit emerges and the trend line changes. Aggregated Interpretation of

King Leopolds Ghost Analysis
Adam Hochschild s King Leopold s Ghost is an account of a man s rise of power who was very cruel
and did unimaginable things. When I began reading, I wasn t sure where the novel was going, but I
soon caught on to what Hochschild was revealing. As the story begins to unfold he tells a story of
King Leopold II of Belgium who managed to seize land next to the Congo River in Africa. King
Leopold used political manipulation and lies to get what he wanted. King Leopold had everyone
fooled that he was a humanitarian and he was in the Congo for the greater good, but that was not the
case. He claimed that civilizing the Congo would keep out Arab slave traders to gain support of
people, but Leopold wanted something else. Leopold was very ... Show more content on

For example, if the men were not meeting his standards they often held women hostage and raped
them to ensure productivity was sufficient. Although, innocent blood was being spilled and they even
cut limbs some people and surprising part is Leopold never set foot in the free state . Hoshschild even
makes the comment that there was something very modern about that (Hochschild 4). King Leopold II
had no human respect, and his own family had barley anything to do with him. I personally don t
understand how someone could stand to look themselves in the mirror after doing such horrible things,
and it shows how far people would go for wealth.
Throughout the book Hochschild shows the dedication of Morel, and major roles that characters
played to shape the history of the Congo like Stanley, and William Sheppard (who was one of the most
outspoken out of all American Congo missionaries.) The author examined the Congo because it shows
how extreme colonialism is and what it was like for people that were under a colonial rule. I think this
book has a clear meaning and thesis, Hochschild wanted to expose what happened in the Congo
because he felt like it had been covered up and he wanted to paint the readers a picture that they would
never forget. My theory is I don t believe that King Leopold was there for the greater good and to
better the Congolese people. I think it s obvious from

The Complexity Of George And Minnie, By John Steinbeck
George and Lennie had an unheard of relationship throughout the novella. They were the exception to
the overall theme of loneliness that each of the other characters felt in some way.
Both characters were extremely loyal to each other , however the significance of Lennies actions
meant that George had no choice but to kill Lennie
Slim s character was highly valued in the novella, and the influence of his opinion is demonstrated in
many cases especially in the final section when helping the reader understand how George had no
choice but to kill lennie.
The reader is able to notice that his voice is the voice of rationalism throughout the book and that the
ranch workers are aware of this.
In instances such as the shooting of Candy s dog, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of this is when He crushes Curly s hand his fist lost in Lennies paw the reader can
understand that the lack of control over his strength and handling of a situation that came to the killing
of a person, meant that George had no choice but to kill Lennie.
Despite Lennie s limitations and lack of relations to other characters, it is obvious to the reader how
highly he values Georges opinion and trusts George to never to leave him.
When he kills the puppy he says maybe George won t care Now maybe George won t let me tend no
rabbits he expresses worry, which translates to show his yearning for Georges approval and is
relatable, allowing the reader to form an empathetic view on him.
This puts emphasis on how dependent he was on George.
When Curly fights with Lennie he only defends himself when George tells him to get him he can then
only stop when George says Leggo his hand Lennie. Leggo . He does not posses the ability to have
any control in the situation. When Curlys wife starts struggling, he is incapable of dealing with it and
kills her instead.
Even when he is unaware of Crookes playing with him demonstrates the inability of thinking for
himself. George wasn t able to save Lennie and with his lack of dependence meant that letting him
escape, left him not only a threat but also vulnerable to those seeking power.
Curly was an aggressive man who seeking vengeance on Lennie. Lennie

The Social Aspects of Prejudice
The Social Aspects of Prejudice Since the beginning of time humans unknowingly, have placed
themselves in social classes. These social classes account for the many stereotypical type who have
been plagued in different groups. It is something many cannot help, but we all have our own thoughts
and perceptions. Whether they are rich or poor, a man or a woman holding the many different beliefs
of religion, they still are prone to prejudice. Prejudice is a favorable option or feeling formed
beforehand or without knowledge, thought or reason. Social psychological theories known as Culture
Theory and Group Closure, have best accounted for one my prejudice and the factors that helped me
to realize and to overcome this prejudice. For instance one day I was on Craigslist applying for jobs
because soon I would be graduating soon and I wanted to have a job already in my field of study.
While applying, I received an email from AMAC, a school for special needs children. In the email, I
was notified to come in on a specific date and time with a copy of my resume. I replied and proceeded
to go into the interview a few days prior to the email. At the interview, I was given a description of the
job and the policies of the company. The description was vague and basically said I would be a group
counselor working with Autistic children. The position was summer based, so we would be spending
most of our time at a Getaway Camp. At

Joplin s Influence On American Culture
The 1960s in America were a time of turbulence, and due to the Cold War, political assassinations,
racial violence, and a developing hippie subculture the decade was essentially an all inclusive. Every
American s life was affected by the radical change taking place during the 1960s, moreover one young
woman from Port Arthur, Texas, embodied everything that the decade would come to be known for.
Alice Echols s book Scars of Sweet Paradise: The Life and Times of Janis Joplin covers Janis Joplin
who was an outrageous and out of control rock singer and song writer who attempted to break through
the restrictions of society. Though Joplin had an impact on changing of social norms, she was

Port Arthur s features included graft, gambling, and prostitution, but also racism was so much a part of
the town s fabric that nigger knocking was a pastime among white teens. If anywhere could teach a
young adult by example that racism was morally incorrect then Port Arthur was the prime location
with its multitude of examples. Joplin s parents were also a major factor in the limiting of Janis s life.
Janis and her mother, Dorothy, disagreed consistently, moreover Dorothy would disapprove nearly
anytime Janis attempted to express her individualism. Dorothy stated that she wanted Janis to be like
everybody else. A minor victory for Dorothy was when Janis went to college and found the university

her hometown which made Janis grow into a very unique person. Janis continued this repressive trend

The Navajo People Are The Largest Native American Tribe
The Navajo people are the largest Native American tribe in the United States, now with over 300,000
members. They are native to a large chunk of Southwestern United States, mostly in New Mexico and
Arizona, but also partially in Utah and Colorado. It was sometime between 1100 1500 A.D. when a
distinguishable Navajo culture began to appear. The first Western contact that is known with the
Navajo occurred near 1581 1583 A.D. Historians believe that the Navajo were relatively peaceful with
their new Spanish neighbors. However there were some times over the centuries after the Spanish
settlement in which the Navajo fought Spanish settlers to retain their land.
The Navajo s first contact with the United States came during the Mexican American War. The area
where the Navajo lived was seen as a strategic area for the United States military. Troops were
therefore brought to Navajo land to form treaties with them. Both sides more or less ignored these
treaties. Navajo groups and New Mexican settlers would often clash. The United States government
began mobilizing troops to New Mexico, and proceeded to establish military bases there. This initially
established a precedence that the government could take advantage of the Navajo people. For the most
part, the Navajo wanted to avoid any conflict, and the United States government chose to exploit this.

Essay on Getting a Steady Income After Retirement
Getting a Steady Income After Retirement Some people cannot wait till retirement. The prospect of
taking a break after 40 years of working is very tempting indeed. Everybody envisions sitting out on
the backyard porch sipping tea, working on our rose bush and other non stressful activities.
Unfortunately, this is only half the story. Admittedly, retirees do enjoy non stressful activities.
However, there are also matters that affect them because retirees do not have a steady stream of
income if they do not make plans for it. Ideally, there should be some form of forced savings while
there is a steady stream of income. When they retire, they can draw on this form of savings to allow
them to continue with a comfortable lifestyle. Now what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What amount will be needed in order to give you a comfortable lifestyle? How much risk should you
take with your annuity? There are a few types of annuities. The different types of annuities affect the
timing of the payout, the investment type of the annuity and payouts related to health and death. First,
the decision needs to be made whether you want to receive payments from the institution immediately
or at a later date upon investing. If you opt to receive payments immediately, the payments will be
given once you start investing. Depending on the annuity rate, this will affect the sum that you will be
receiving. If you opt to receive payments at a later stage, the payments may be higher. Next you can
decide whether to invest in a fixed or variable annuity. Having a fixed variable will lower your risk
while at the same time having a lower return. This is because the annuity is fixed at a specified rate
irregardless of external factors such as inflation and government regulations. In having a variable
annuity, you will be getting a higher return although you will be exposed to a higher element of risk.
Variable annuities are mostly linked to various sources including the stock exchange. If the stock
exchange performs well, you will invariably get a higher return. However, this is true if the reverse
should happen. In order to obtain the best annuity rates, a lot of decisions need to be made including
selecting the correct institution. Nevertheless, you should

Essay on Traditional Shinto Modern Japanese Business
The nation of Japan, even more so than other countries, has a long, long history behind it. It s a
country dating back as far as the B.C. Era, and that has experienced various powerful events that has
shaped the country since its birth. As with other nations, an important part of their past lies in their
religion. Before they were introduced to Buddhism and other outside religions, which had a large
impact on their society, the Japanese followed something known as Shinto. As the one religion that
can truly be called Japanese, it follows that its influences would still remain in the eyes of the people
and only aided by a traditionally xenophobic view of the world. Now, in modern Japan, the role of
fundamental religion has, for the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the key aspects of Shinto, and an aspect that made it somewhat difficult for me to study in a
more isolated context, is the flexibility of it. Unlike the Abrahamic religions, there is no strict religious
doctrine or meticulous set of rules that governs the practitioners. Instead, it s much more a conceptual
idea that carries with it various commonalities, specifically in terms of practices and a very nature
based system of deities (Religions of the World). Although, despite Japan s more isolated society, they
did share certain ideas with other Eastern religions, such as a focus on the cosmos and harmony with
nature and others (Return of the Gods). This led to an interesting dynamic when other Asian religions
and philosophies made their way into Japan. While there might have been a certain amount of
abrasiveness between Shinto and the others at first, the nature of the religion allowed a unique
blending that isn t to often scene between the unique (or semi unique) religions of multiple countries.
The three most prominent influences came from Chinese Confucianism and Taoism, and Indian
Buddhism. Buddhism in particular had the most influence on their religion, becoming a near
inseparable part of it (Religions of the World). This only supports the notion that religion is more of an
idea than what most of us in the west would typically consider religion. Even before industrialization,
Japanese people don t really consider themselves

Ephedrine and It s Effect on Weight Loss
The Dilemma
It is dilemma that affects the world over, its scope nothing short of the earth s 25,000 mile

it can affect every aspect of our lives, driving many even to suicide. Few, if any, are naturally

In countries, such as the United States, weight control is a common, yet, dire issue. Especially, in a

Disaster Is A Blind Killer
Disaster is a blind killer as it erupts and affects thousands worldwide. The severity of disasters is
expected to increase as a result of contemporary threats (biological, cyber, nuclear, etc.) in addition to
increased globalization and climate change. Yet sometimes government bodies, corporations, and the
like fall short in instituting preventative systems to avert a disaster, oftentimes causing the general
populous to be inadequately prepared should a catastrophe occur. Union Carbide s gas leak of methyl

The resulting gas leak killed more than 2,500 people that night alone, and would go on to claim the
lives of over thousands of others. The sequence of events of that evening is arguably the result of
operating errors, design flaws, maintenance failures, training deficiencies, and economic measures that
endangered the safety amongst the residents living nearby (Das 1996, 161). The decommissioned
refrigeration unit, the faulty pressure level, and temperature indicators of the MIC tank are examples
of the lack of preventative measures Union Carbide ignored. Additionally, the lack of implemented
safety measures in place prior to the leak could not have prevented a chemical reaction of this
magnitude. In designing the plant s safety systems, a water curtain for neutralizing MIC had been
installed. Had a gas leak occurred, the water would come on to dissipate; however, the water curtain
was set to reach only a certain height whereas MIC has the potential to escape far beyond calculated
heights due to outside factors such as wind (Bowonder 2012, 162). Union Carbide claimed that factors
such as employee sabotage not the faulty design or operation were the primary cause of the tragedy.
An analysis by Bowonder found that the failures were at the corporate level. These managerial failures
are the most critical and paramount if accidents are to be averted.

Architecture and Insecurity An Analysis of Architecture as Metapho in WG Sebald s Austerlitz

Clearly, there is a psychological parallel between making a mark on the landscape and the exercise of

In actuality, as revealed through viewpoint of the character Austerlitz, the 19th century encapsulated
the architectural style of the capitalist era...the compulsive sense of order and the tendency towards
monumentalism evident in law courts and penal institutions, railway stations and stock exchanges,
opera houses and lunatic asylums, and the dwelling build to rectangular grid patterns for the labor
force (33). The Palace of Justice in Brussels presents a perfect example of Imperialist Architecture.
Built in the 1880s at the insistence of Brussels bourgeoisie, the Palace of Justice is the largest
accumulation of stone blocks anywhere in Europe (29). Complete with hallways that lead nowhere,
staircases that fall apart at the touch, and rooms that cannot be entered (quite literally, there are no

sprung up everywhere in an attempt to impress and terrify. Rosalyn Deutsche notes that architecture

Evolution Of Public Administration Approaches
Evolution of Public Administration Approaches
The roots of public administration can be traced back to 400 B.C. when Plato developed the concept
of democracy, but more recently, economist Fredric W. Taylor in early 1900s developed the need for
budgets, cooperation between labor and management in order to become more effective (Gueguen,
2002). His concepts of scientific management, also known as Taylorism, promoted job optimization
and simplification in order to increase productivity. These scientific management principles were
further explored by German sociologist, philosopher, political economist Max Weber. Weber
advocated various concepts such as the development of standardized procedures with a clear chain of

Other than hierarchy and meritocracy (Robinson, 2015), the old public administration had many
unique features. Those features included a centralized control with set rules and guidelines, separating
policymaking from implementation, and employed a categorized organizational arrangement
(Osborne, 2006). Few other central features of this model were, the separation between politics and
politicians on one hand and administration and administrators on the other, resources belong to the
organization, not to the individuals who work in it and limited public involvement with administrators
responsible to democratically elected political leaders (Denhardt Denhardt, 2015).
Old public administration played an important role in managing budgets and human resources in an
organization by targeting efficiency and effectiveness. These goals were achieved by first defining
specialized roles within organizations. These roles were then filled by qualified people who were
recruited based on merits. People were hired only if they meet all the required qualifications for the
job. The dominance of old public administration theory is still visible in today s recruitment and hiring
process. Whenever a new job opening is posted on Alameda County s website, there is always a
section specifying a list of qualifications. Applicants must meet those qualifications in order to qualify
for the interview. Every role in the organization was clearly defined with fixed duties and

The studio classroom here at RPI is unique in the way that students and professors interact with it. The

interactive nature of the studio classroom, both professors and students frequently use the white board

experiences with the uses of the classroom whiteboard and thought of a Whiteboard Squeegee . Now

This issue is brought to light from Donald Norman s different perspective, for people themselves are
often unaware of their true needs, even unaware of the difficulties they are encountering (Norman 9). I
have been using whiteboard erasers for my entire academic career and have always subconsciously
noted the fact that using them, especially on a large board, comes with its issues. They can be tiring
and difficult to reach and clean the entire board, due to the small handheld eraser that has been
adopted and remained relatively unchanged. The whiteboard eraser in the studio classroom seems to
have been overlooked by the user group perhaps for multiple reasons, which adds strength to my cause
as a designer. The ability to design for a group of individuals who thoroughly appreciate innovation
allows for my project to have a strong potential impact. Initially, I assumed that my user group would
contain but not be limited to people who interact in a classroom. The fault in this thinking comes into
play when defining the unique characteristics of the user group. A generic classroom doesn t
necessarily need a larger ergonomic whiteboard eraser because it doesn t hold much value to them
outside of its function as an eraser. My target user group is in constant need of products and scenery
that enhance the classrooms design identity. Though a white board eraser may seem insignificant, it

Metaphors, Forms Of Human Communication And Erapeutic Uses
Metaphors, forms of symbolic language, have been used as teaching and healing tools in stories for
centuries, cite Mills and Crowley (2014). PTUK course book (2017) also cites that research by Levin
and Modell has proven that more brain cells light up in response to metaphor than any other form of
human communication forming new neural pathways. In this essay I will be looking at the theory
behind using a therapeutic story and relating it to my process of using one with my client. Sunderland
(2000) states that stories can be an important part of therapeutic tool kit, as a vehicle, through which a
child can process troubled feelings. Sunderland (2000) adds that children can often find it difficult to
put their feelings into words, as their natural communication method is through images and
metaphors. A therapeutic story can express those feelings in child s language and help the child to
build trust that her feelings are understood, which then will help the child to share her own feelings.
Sunderland (2002) also advises that there are four ways a therapeutic story can work; It can present
the child options that she can use when coming across an obstacle, it can present new ways and
solutions of dealing with problems that might have felt unsolvable, it can show ways of coping with
emotional problems, and it can provide options for new ways of being. Ericson (1991) cites that the
therapist should encourage learning through experience, as this is more beneficial than learning

Sexual Harassment In Australia
Introduction
Sexual harassment still remains a serious problem in workplaces around Australia and can affect
anyone no matter their age or gender. There are many rules and laws in place around Australia to

complaints received by the Australian Human Rights Commission under the Sex Discrimination Act.
It affects 1 in 4 women, and 1 in 6 men in the workplace; this makes the number of people that have
been sexually harassed very large. Sexual harassment is against the law and some types can be a

Sexual harassment in the workplace can happen to anyone no matter their age or gender, this impacts
my co workers and I as employees. This issue can happen to me by anyone around my workplace,
which it a bit scary, it is also frightening to know how often sexual harassment occurs and how it does
not get reported as often as it should. It may not affect me in my current job but it may very well effect
me when I am older and working in a larger

Families in the Call to Home by Carol Stack Essay
Families in the Call to Home by Carol Stack The families in the Call to Home by Carol Stack do not
fit with the normal American household described by Haviland. A normal American household
includes the parents and the children only. An aunt raising her nieces and nephews with her own
children while their parents are living up North is not considered a normal household. Parents and
children are separated with part of the children living with one parent and the others are living with
grandparents. Such separation occurs because it is harder and harder to find jobs in the South and
many kids have no other choice but to go up North for education and money. As North became more
industrialized, people like Eula Grant, Shantee Owens, Donald ... Show more content on

Everyone knew that all the opportunities were up North where the big industries are and the
abundance of jobs to be filled. However, with all the opportunities came the consequences of living in
big cities. Crime, violence, no one to turn for support to because all the relatives live back home or in
different cities. All that drove many back home, but they were different people. They knew what had
to be done to better their lives down South. They had the skills, the knowledge and the strength to
change things. MAC, Inc. and Holding Hands were organized to help out the poor, which included
almost everybody. These are the consequences of living up North people came back knowing what has
to be done.
Even though the younger generation that came back knew what had to be done, they still seek the
support of their elders. The kinship system played tremendously important role in all those people s
lives. All the family gatherings were always attended no matter how far everybody is. Being a family
is what has always gotten them through hard times. When the children moved back and had to start all
over, their family was always there for them. Pearl had taken in Eula s children and her while she was
recovering after the operation. Samuel s niece and nephew came to live with them when they lost their
parents. If not for Pearl raising them, they would have ended up in an orphanage and nobody knows
what could have happened to them.

  • 2. Theory Analysis And Skill Training 1. Briefly explain the concept of paradigm. A paradigm is defined as the fundamental way in which we think and define reality. It may include values and beliefs that influence our decisions on what is real and what is not. It is how we know the things we know. It is our own awareness of ourselves as observers and knowers and may relate to how we think and act in certain situations. It is also how we process what is real and how we present our knowings to others. In a paradigm no right or wrong answers are presented but instead fundamental assumptions are used. 2.What is the dominant paradigm guiding practice and research in special education? Explain a few key features of this paradigm. The dominant paradigm is known as the Newtonian Mechanistic Paradigm and is often referred to as the machine paradigm. This paradigm views animals and humans as machines. Simplicity is very important and all complexity is often broken down and translated. Information is arranged logically and sequentially. The theory includes task analysis and skill training and has a focus on quantity instead of quality. It also ranks human behavior. This method does not value personal knowledge or individuality. It does not focus on the process of learning or students motivation for learning. 3. Can you cite any professional examples of mechanistic practice that you ve encountered? (or if you are currently teaching, you may describe what you do that may exemplify mechanistic practice) I have encountered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mr. Boddy-Personal Narrative It was 9:00 at night when the crime happened, but 5:30 a.m. the next day was when we got the case. I am detective Kilburn and I have been called to solve it. The suspects we have for Mr. Boddy s death are Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Green, and Mrs. White. Today is January 27, 1957 and I live in the lovely place of London. I started to read the case file about how Mr. Boddy was found and it was apparently one of his maids that reported it. There just might be a connection. It s the first day of interrogation. I first brought in Colonel Mustard since Mr. Boddy and him were never know to get along. He say still and stiff across from me. Okay Mustard, I m going to ask you some basic questions. Still no change in his posture or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually, I found out what it was and it was a golden candlestick. With my gloves on, I took that for evidence too. • 4. Comparing Erickson s Theories Of Success Or Failure In 1905 Sigmund Freud theorized that childhood development happens in stages, which are called Psychosexual Development Stages. In 1950 Erik Erikson developed Psychosocial Stages, which are greatly influenced by Freud s theories. Freud s theory centers on psychosexual energy or the libido. Erickson s theory centers on issues and tasks being met at specific ages. Even though we are sexual beings, our developmental stages do not focus entirely on sexual pleasures. Both theories do show that personality develops in stages. Although, Erickson s theory is the better theory. A few differences, is Freud s theory focuses on sexual pleasure, and when failure occurs the individual becomes fixated on that failure, which could lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The success of this stage is measured by the feeling of safety and security of our world. This will set the child up for success for the rest of their life. The other side is failure that would lead mistrust and the feeling of insecurity of the world around them. This will set them up to have issues especially in relationship. McLeod mentions, For example, if the care has been harsh or inconsistent, unpredictable and unreliable then the infant will develop a sense of mistrust and will not have confidence in the world around them or in their abilities to influence events (McLeod 19). The second stage is age s one through three. Freud called this stage the Anal Stage. The children start to potty training and learn that they control how and when they go. This the only area that they can fully control. This can develop two different personalities. Anal retentive can develop when potty training is done too early or is too harsh. McLeod wrote, Early or harsh potty training can lead to the child becoming an anal retentive personality who hates mess, is obsessively tidy, punctual and respectful of authority (McLeod 14). The second personality is anal expulsive, where the potty training was too lenient. The child shares with everyone around them. This is also where they can develop either a good or bad relationship with authority. Erikson calls this stage Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. This is where the child will be ... • 5. The National Holiday Of Columbus Day Should Not Become A... The national holiday of Columbus Day should never have become a recognized Federal holiday. Christopher Columbus did not actually discover the Americas. There were millions of indigenous people already living in the location that he was exploring. It is true he was an explorer trying to find his way to the riches of the Indies and mapping his way for Spain and Europe however, how is it a discovery when people are already living on the land? He didn t even make it to the location he was originally trying to reach. He was also a brutal man that enslaved the people living on the land he discovered . We as a people enjoy having our holidays off and it has been a recognized holiday since enacted by Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was celebrated in some aspect or another hundreds of years before then. We are celebrating a figure that has been romanticized about for so long even though the truth of the man is a very different story. If we dig further into the truth we will discover that it really makes no sense to why we have a day to celebrate this man. As a nation we may want to reconsider either a different celebration of this day or removing the holiday completely. According to the Library of Congress the first recorded celebration of Columbus Day in the United States took place on October 12, 1792, for the 300th anniversary of his arriving to America. At the 400th anniversary it was recommended by President Harrison that the United States observe the day as a holiday. Then the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Poem Migrant Hostel Identity is moulded by a multitude of different sources, and this is demonstrated on personal, social, historical and cultural levels. The intricacy of the relationship depicted in Feliks Skrzynecki , between the narrator and his father presents a perspective on the author s personal identity. The quote, Watching me peg my tents, Further and further south of Hadrian s Wall illustrates the above as well provides a reference for the irony that the poet is learning Latin instead of his native language, Polish. Feliks Skrzynecki accurately portrays the perception of personal identity by drawing differences between the relationships of two characters on a personal level. Skrzynecki s Post card portrays a narrator who is a first generation immigrant, lamenting at the fact that he never experienced his place of origin, something which he believes, is integral to his heritage and historical identity. Throughout this poem, the poet is associated with a feeling of guilt as a result of his incomplete historical identity. This is shown by the tone of Warsaw, Old Town, I never knew you, except in third person. This is a symbol of the poet s disconnection to his heritage; that his information regarding his identity s history is not his own, but in fact inherited from the generations before him. • 8. I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died Emily Dickinson was fascinated by death and immortality; in her poem I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died she reveals her insight on a shared but unknown experience. A speaker, who is describing his or her death from beyond the grave, narrates the poem, which can be interpreted with either heavily Christian in its symbolism, or as the literal description of the dying experience. Dickinson uses the poetry elements of symbolism, imagery and point of view to give us an ironic poem, about dying and the afterlife, which leaves the reader unsure of what s on the other side of death. There is a disagreement in the literary world over the meaning of the fly, its symbolism and relationship to the speaker in the poem (Ruby 139). Dickinson might have used the fly in order to showcase that the dying speaker was still aware of the physical world but his or her senses were fading as the body surrenders to death With Blue uncertain stumbling Buzz (Line 13). The fly could also have been used as an ironic symbol of death, decay, and human mortality. Since the fly is a creature that feeds and lays its eggs in dead flesh. During these times the higher class continued to prosper while the lower class remained at the bottom, the separation continues to grow. Three men vocalize their views on the social division, capitalism, and individualism. Andrew Carnegie, an industrialist, believed the rich should distributed their wealth to benefit society while they re alive. Carnegie elaborates this idea in his article, The Gospel of Wealth, written in 1889. Russell Conwell, a philanthropist, expresses in his speech, Acres of Diamonds, men should utilize their surrounding opportunities to make themselves wealthy. Edward Bellamy, a socialist, wrote Look Backward about a wealthy young man, Julian West, who enters hypnotic sleep in 1887 and awakes 113 years later. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, residents of Salem habitually cry witch , driven by dismay, suspicion, and retribution. Under a strict theocracy, where the court s ruling and religious beliefs are exclusively bound to one another, death is practically inevitable for those branded as witches, their names perpetually tarnished. Fear that witches were truly among the community of Salem, performing dark magic and wreaking havoc, propelled witch hunters to raid the town. Paranoia. The declaration of Salem s most admired individuals to have been involved in witchcraft gave residents the excuse to suspect any soul of wrongdoing. Vengeance. Jealousy and dislike spurred citizens to accuse their foes, utilizing witchcraft to justify their personal vendetta. When Salem s women were stigmatized as witches, two groups were born. Those who believed in the children s witchcraft allegations, acting primarily on emotion, and those who declared the children of pretense, acting predominantly on logic. However, the group motivated by fear, paranoia, and vengeance greatly outnumbered those driven by logic in both strength and size. Thus this group, experiencing a psychological phenomenon called groupthink, can be held accountable for the execrable Salem witch trials. Irving Janis, a social psychologist, studied how social behavior is influenced in group settings. In 1972, he coined the name groupthink to describe observed behavioral changes in individuals belonging to groups. A running theme in this story, congruent with the first naturalistic assumption of the struggle for survival, is the desire for wealth and the eventual greed spawned from this consuming desire. • 16. Object Relational Mapping ( Orm ) Object Relational Mapping (ORM) is a programming technique for converting data between incompatible types in object oriented programming languages. ORM can be considered as a mechanism that helps and aids in addressing, accessing and manipulating data without having to necessarily consider the relationship between the data and the data source. Programmers can maintain a constant view of objects over time and can adapt to application access or data delivery changes while using ORM. ORM manages the mapping properties amongst a set of objects that have underlying relational databases, repositories or other sources of data that simultaneously hide constant details that have been changed in related interfaces from the developers and the code they create. ORM makes it theoretically possible for developers to switch applications between relational databases. Since ORM tools mostly rely heavily on metadata of both the database and objects, the objects do not need to know anything about the database and the database doesn t need to know anything about how the data is structured in the application. ORM provides a clean well designed data application. Advantages of ORM The most important key feature of using ORM is the mapping it uses to bind an object to its database. ORM performs the task of managing the application s interactions with the database. There are various number of benefits to using ORM for development of database applications. It was sometime between 1100 1500 A.D. when a distinguishable Navajo culture began to appear. The first Western contact that is known with the Navajo occurred near 1581 1583 A.D. Historians believe that the Navajo were relatively peaceful with their new Spanish neighbors. However there were some times over the centuries after the Spanish settlement in which the Navajo fought Spanish settlers to retain their land. The Navajo s first contact with the United States came during the Mexican American War. The area where the Navajo lived was seen as a strategic area for the United States military. Troops were therefore brought to Navajo land to form treaties with them. Both sides more or less ignored these treaties. Navajo groups and New Mexican settlers would often clash. The United States government began mobilizing troops to New Mexico, and proceeded to establish military bases there. This initially established a precedence that the government could take advantage of the Navajo people. For the most part, the Navajo wanted to avoid any conflict, and the United States government chose to exploit this. The prospect of taking a break after 40 years of working is very tempting indeed. Everybody envisions sitting out on the backyard porch sipping tea, working on our rose bush and other non stressful activities. Unfortunately, this is only half the story. Admittedly, retirees do enjoy non stressful activities. However, there are also matters that affect them because retirees do not have a steady stream of income if they do not make plans for it. What amount will be needed in order to give you a comfortable lifestyle? How much risk should you take with your annuity? There are a few types of annuities. The different types of annuities affect the timing of the payout, the investment type of the annuity and payouts related to health and death. First, the decision needs to be made whether you want to receive payments from the institution immediately or at a later date upon investing. If you opt to receive payments immediately, the payments will be given once you start investing. Depending on the annuity rate, this will affect the sum that you will be receiving. If you opt to receive payments at a later stage, the payments may be higher. Next you can decide whether to invest in a fixed or variable annuity. Having a fixed variable will lower your risk while at the same time having a lower return. This is because the annuity is fixed at a specified rate irregardless of external factors such as inflation and government regulations. In having a variable annuity, you will be getting a higher return although you will be exposed to a higher element of risk. Variable annuities are mostly linked to various sources including the stock exchange. If the stock exchange performs well, you will invariably get a higher return. However, this is true if the reverse should happen. In order to obtain the best annuity rates, a lot of decisions need to be made including selecting the correct institution. Era, and that has experienced various powerful events that has shaped the country since its birth. As with other nations, an important part of their past lies in their religion. Before they were introduced to Buddhism and other outside religions, which had a large impact on their society, the Japanese followed something known as Shinto. As the one religion that can truly be called Japanese, it follows that its influences would still remain in the eyes of the people and only aided by a traditionally xenophobic view of the world. One of the key aspects of Shinto, and an aspect that made it somewhat difficult for me to study in a more isolated context, is the flexibility of it. Unlike the Abrahamic religions, there is no strict religious doctrine or meticulous set of rules that governs the practitioners. Instead, it s much more a conceptual idea that carries with it various commonalities, specifically in terms of practices and a very nature based system of deities (Religions of the World). Although, despite Japan s more isolated society, they did share certain ideas with other Eastern religions, such as a focus on the cosmos and harmony with nature and others (Return of the Gods). This led to an interesting dynamic when other Asian religions and philosophies made their way into Japan. While there might have been a certain amount of abrasiveness between Shinto and the others at first, the nature of the religion allowed a unique blending that isn t to often scene between the unique (or semi unique) religions of multiple countries. The three most prominent influences came from Chinese Confucianism and Taoism, and Indian Buddhism. Buddhism in particular had the most influence on their religion, becoming a near inseparable part of it (Religions of the World). This only supports the notion that religion is more of an idea than what most of us in the west would typically consider religion. The severity of disasters is expected to increase as a result of contemporary threats (biological, cyber, nuclear, etc.) in addition to increased globalization and climate change. The sequence of events of that evening is arguably the result of operating errors, design flaws, maintenance failures, training deficiencies, and economic measures that endangered the safety amongst the residents living nearby (Das 1996, 161). The decommissioned refrigeration unit, the faulty pressure level, and temperature indicators of the MIC tank are examples of the lack of preventative measures Union Carbide ignored. Additionally, the lack of implemented safety measures in place prior to the leak could not have prevented a chemical reaction of this magnitude. In designing the plant s safety systems, a water curtain for neutralizing MIC had been installed. Had a gas leak occurred, the water would come on to dissipate; however, the water curtain was set to reach only a certain height whereas MIC has the potential to escape far beyond calculated heights due to outside factors such as wind (Bowonder 2012, 162). Union Carbide claimed that factors such as employee sabotage not the faulty design or operation were the primary cause of the tragedy. An analysis by Bowonder found that the failures were at the corporate level. These managerial failures are the most critical and paramount if accidents are to be averted. ... Other than hierarchy and meritocracy (Robinson, 2015), the old public administration had many unique features. Those features included a centralized control with set rules and guidelines, separating policymaking from implementation, and employed a categorized organizational arrangement (Osborne, 2006). Few other central features of this model were, the separation between politics and politicians on one hand and administration and administrators on the other, resources belong to the organization, not to the individuals who work in it and limited public involvement with administrators responsible to democratically elected political leaders (Denhardt Denhardt, 2015). Old public administration played an important role in managing budgets and human resources in an organization by targeting efficiency and effectiveness. These goals were achieved by first defining specialized roles within organizations. These roles were then filled by qualified people who were recruited based on merits. People were hired only if they meet all the required qualifications for the job. The dominance of old public administration theory is still visible in today s recruitment and hiring process. They can be tiring and difficult to reach and clean the entire board, due to the small handheld eraser that has been adopted and remained relatively unchanged. The whiteboard eraser in the studio classroom seems to have been overlooked by the user group perhaps for multiple reasons, which adds strength to my cause as a designer. The ability to design for a group of individuals who thoroughly appreciate innovation allows for my project to have a strong potential impact. Initially, I assumed that my user group would contain but not be limited to people who interact in a classroom. Metaphors, Forms Of Human Communication And Erapeutic Uses Metaphors, forms of symbolic language, have been used as teaching and healing tools in stories for centuries, cite Mills and Crowley (2014). PTUK course book (2017) also cites that research by Levin and Modell has proven that more brain cells light up in response to metaphor than any other form of human communication forming new neural pathways. In this essay I will be looking at the theory behind using a therapeutic story and relating it to my process of using one with my client. Sunderland (2000) states that stories can be an important part of therapeutic tool kit, as a vehicle, through which a child can process troubled feelings. Sunderland (2000) adds that children can often find it difficult to put their feelings into words, as their natural communication method is through images and metaphors. A therapeutic story can express those feelings in child s language and help the child to build trust that her feelings are understood, which then will help the child to share her own feelings. Sunderland (2002) also advises that there are four ways a therapeutic story can work; It can present the child options that she can use when coming across an obstacle, it can present new ways and solutions of dealing with problems that might have felt unsolvable, it can show ways of coping with emotional problems, and it can provide options for new ways of being.
