I think that my three most important ascribed social statuses are that I am an American, I am eighteen
years old, and I am a white male. Ascribed social statuses are the social status that a person is assigned
at birth or given later in life. First and foremost, being an American is something that many people
take for granted. We have the chance to obtain a great life that not everyone has the chance at. It has
opened so many doors for me including an education, security, opportunity, and so many more.
Growing up an American has taught me many lessons. I have learned that while not everything is easy,
I could have it much worse off, and I should be grateful for the opportunities that present themselves. I
have also learned not to take anything for granted. I am very blessed with the life I have, but nothing
is guaranteed. You have to enjoy the good things in life, and embrace the hard ones. One more lesson
is that life is full of choices, and the life that you end up with is more or less a result of those choices. I
m not saying that it is a completely fair playing field, but I do believe that everyone generally has the

HYPOCRISY IN THE SCARLET LETTER: The Scarlet Letter mainly revolves around sin and
hypocrisy. Every character in some way, shape or form is considered a hypocrite to some level/degree.
To start from the top and work our way downward, the officials. The officials in this book have such
horrid views of Hester. You d think that they have some sense of compassion or show remorse for
Hester but that was never the case. Overtime, it all dulled down her sin wasn t a big deal as opposed to
when it first occurred. Her sin wasn t forgotten but the depth in actions in which people would take to
make sure she felt miserable, faded away in quite sometime. The main characters each sin the words
in which Hawthorne uses in their dialect gives you a taste of their sins. Even the character to which is
highly praised by society is a sinner. Roger Chillingworth, Hester Prynne and Reverend Arthur
Dimmesdale are the perfect examples of hypocrisy in The Scarlet Letter. The way they re introduced
in the story and the way the story carries them out to be is outrageous. You begin to question their

Introduction I became interested in the library field at a young age. Through school library programs
and trips to the public library with my family I developed an appreciation for the library as a place and
for the talented men and women who staffed the library. This appreciation continued through my time
at Southern Connecticut State University, where I earned my BS in information and library science in
the winter of 2011. It was in through the university s library, Hilton C. Buley library, that I revived my
