Double Consciousness and the Stranger Essay
Throughout history, Georg Simmel and W.E.B. Du Bois have had a significant influence on
important theories and ideas developed in the Social Sciences. Perhaps two of the most relevant
and well known concepts developed by both of these theorists are the concepts of double
consciousness and the stranger . In this paper I will be analyzing both of these pieces of work to
draw upon differences and similarities between the two. The similarities I will be elaborating on
are the usage of the paradoxical figure, which both Simmel and Du Bois discuss in their theories,
and the coexisting feeling of division from mainstream society. The difference between the two
theories that I will be exploring is the perception that mainstream society has of... Show more

He is fixed within a certain spatial circle or within a group whose boundaries are analogous to
spatial boundaries but his position within it is fundamentally affected by the fact that he does
not belong in it initially and that he brings qualities into it that are not, and cannot be,
indigenous to it (Simmel, 143). Simmel defines the stranger as one that is both close and far;
that is physically close, but socially distant. He disassociates his concept from the understanding
of the stranger as one who comes and goes. Rather, the stranger he speaks of in this case is one
who comes and stays, but has not been socialized under the same conditions as mainstream
society. Despite this, the stranger is not a person who is withdrawn from society and is unaware
of social norms. Rather, someone is inorganically appended to the society, but still an organic
member of the group (ibid, 149). The stranger is seen as and valuable member of society because
it is, in no way connected to any one individual. The stranger holds a certain objectivity, and can be
confessed to without the threat of judgment on the confessor (ibid, 145). Simmel believes that the
role of stranger is historically related to certain forms of economic interaction, particularly trade.
Because the role of the stranger is never the

The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa
Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of,
if not the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the
renaissance period and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona
Lisa in 1517 A.D. He s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling.
However, the Mona Lisa is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in
my home which I couldn t imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that
spanned roughly from the 14th century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the
history of mankind including Leonardo Da Vinciand MichelangeloBuonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https:
//learnodo newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings)
One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona
Lisa. The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening
blending tones and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily
two dimensional art. While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you
begin to see the effects of Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the
shading around her soft eyes. The entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before
seen in such great application of art during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s
close by and in the forefront. Her hair is soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and
rugged terrain behind her almost goes unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before
and hopefully, for centuries to come.
Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or
mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the
latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art
and Sfumato techniques. Almost the antithesis of Baroque art and it s reliance on straight lines and
sharp contrast coupled with popular, or unpopular imperial Louis XIV messaging, Rococo adds

Jack The Ripper Facts
Jack the Ripper: Identified After five related prostitute murders in the East End of London in 1888,
many theories and conspiracies arose about who the murderer could be. Many suspects were
thrown around, but nobody was ever convicted. While there was an extensive investigation, the
case was eventually closed. The ending to the story was left to each newspaper and media outlet,
all writing their own version of the mysterious Jack the Ripperlegend. Although there was proof to
verify and negate many names thrown into the large pool of suspects, it is clear that there is one
person who can be pinned to these killings. Based on a significant amount of evidence, it is clear
that Jack the Ripper can be identified as Aaron Kosminski.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Theories And Principles Of Adult Learning
Adult Learning
Investigating and understanding the theories and principles underpinning adult learning has
helped me to advance my thinking about this phenomena. For instance, Piaget s work involving
the formal operational stage, according to Bass (2012) has allowed for the assumption that
adults learn in a fixed manner developed in their late teen years and that they remain unchanged
from this stage (p. 387). It was assumed that adults, then spent the rest of their lives in that stage.
However, other theorist such as Knowles, surfaced during the 1970s to clarify the misconception.
It is interesting to note that in the early 1970 s there was a spark of interest and debate over
andragogy and the need to define theories within the field (Knowles, et al 2011). Knowles, et al.
(2011) support the ideas that there are core principles of andragogy that will enable those designing
and leading instruction for adults to be more effective in building learning processes.
Additionally, andragogy is based on key assumptions which set it apart from pedagogy learning.
Adults learning is usually tied to one of the assumptions of andragogy such as a learners their need
to know. For example, this assumption encourages instructors to investigate ways to bridge the gap
between the learner s current position and the goals of the instruction. Secondly, Knowles, et al.
(2011) claim that adults have a strong need to be responsible for their own decisions, thereby
having a strong

Analysis Of Henry Louis Jr s The Trials Of Phillis Wheatley
Phillis Wheatley, once coined the mother of black literature, now, deemed an imitation is the
sole focus of Henry Louis Jr s, The Trials of Phillis Wheatley, in regards to the many perspectives
and intrepations pertaining to her poetic works. In closing of the novel, in which he evaluates the
various opinions offered, Gates suggests that readers should ...learn to read Wheatley anew,
unblinkered by the anxieties of her time and ours. That s the only way to let Phillis Wheatley take
the stand. The challenge isn t to read white or read black; it is to read (Gates 89). Such is the
stance he assumes and carries throughout his novel.
As his method of reading of reading suggests, Gates assumes an objective attitude when grasping
and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As does the former, Gate s quote, Jefferson reaches these conclusions, in some part, from his
reading of Phillis Wheatley s poetry. Yes, he conceded, she may very well have written these works,
but they are derivative imitative, devoid of that marriage of reasoning and transport that is, in his
view, the peculiar oestrum of the poet. By shifting the terms of authenticity from the very
possibility of her authorship to the quality of her authorship Jefferson indicated her for a failure of a
higher form of authenticity (Gates 49) demonstrates, Gates , blatant objectivity. There is something
underlying that is imperative to understanding just how impartial Gates is. Gates, himself is an
African American man, yet he offers evidence that is unpopular, contradicts his beliefs and may
well offend him, still, his opinions are (especially in his case) free of bias. This impartiality is
indicated by phrases such as, he conceded, Jefferson indicated, and, in his view. Authenticity, is an
important word as it is essential to Jefferson s argument, which would subsequently make Wheatley
s authorship creditable. Yet again, Gates objectivity is shown as he presents the argument, For
wheatley s critics, her sacrifices, nor courage, her humiliations, her trials would never be enough.
And so we have come full circle: the sort of racist suspicious and anxieties that attended Wheatley
s writing are now directed at forms of black expression that seem

Mercedes Archetypes
Mercedes: Mother Figure A mother archetype is a person who is caring a protective figure that
show motherly intention. I choose Mercedes because she is the wife of Charlie and since she is
a wife, I think that she would be a great mother archetype. Usually a wife is a very caring and is
supportive figure so I think it will fit her well. Mercedes is the only woman in this text not
counting female dogs, and unfortunately represents a bunch of gender stereotypes that existed
around the turn of the 20th Century. She is weak, impractical, and overly sentimental and
emotional. This is why I think she is a great mother figure because her emotions cause her to be
caring and loving like a mother. Mercedes is a very emotional character and has a heart... Show

How The Social Determinants Of Health Have A Direct Impact...
Education has an imperative correlation to health outcomes. The following presented case study
will demonstrate an example of how the social determinants of health have a direct impact on
health status. Mrs. Smith is a 68 year old female who was bad a diagnosis of type I diabetes for
37 years. She has developed a pressure ulcer on her left foot, which has increasingly worsened and
become necrotic in certain areas. She has had uncontrolled diabetes for many years and often does

This is often related to the fact that education increases income, employment and provides greater
job security. Education also produces enhanced literacy. This allows for individuals to better
comprehend the societal aspects that impact their health. Additionally, by having greater literacy, a
patient can advocate for their health, implement healthier lifestyle choices and seek out resources to
enhance their health (Mikkonen, Raphael, 2010). The literature also demonstrates that with poor
education there are increase hospitalization rates, increased use of emergency services and
medication are not taken as directed (blackboard). Therefore Mrs. Smith was admitted to hospital
for a foot ulcer due to complications related to diabetes mellitus.
Recommendations for Change at Level of HCP
The recommendations for change to practice at the level of the provider would include first treating
the underlying problem that Mrs. Smith was admitted for. According to the literature, a
progressively worsening diabetic foot ulcer involves implementing a multitude of strategies to
prevent amputation of the limb. This allow for decreased rates in mortality and can increase quality
of life. Adequate wound management such as debridement, and offloading techniques should be
instilled. Furthermore, education by the provider would be of critical importance for Mrs. Smith in
terms of consistent foot care and management of her disease process (Yazdanpanah, Nasiri,
Adarvishi, 2015). Due

Essay On Confederate Monuments
Of all the things in this world for people to fiercely debate today, 100 year old statues of dead
generals have somehow made their way into public discourse. In America, we face an interesting
issue that has been ignored for quite some time: what to do with our monuments to Confederate
soldiers. There are many reasons why I chose this topic, partly because I am already somewhat
knowledgeable on the issue, but I still have much to learn about this topic. Confederate monuments
are an important debate being held in our country right now and I intend to help explain why that is
and help people to form their own opinions based on strong arguments.
In our society today, 150 years after the Civil War, there are still a multitude of reasons to
research Confederate monuments. Recently, they have made many appearances in the news,
which makes them topical. After President Trump defended protesters at a white supremacist
rally, the topic of confederate monument removal has been particularly popular in the media.
Conveniently, I think this topic will also suit an argument essay and proposal essay easily as
well. Also, I have somewhat of a personal stake in this topic, since I grew up in Mississippi, and
therefore I know what it is like to live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, it is undeniable that the Confederates were traitors to the United States. I will not
argue otherwise. Also, I am aware that one of the reasons that the Confederates seceded was
because of their desire to continue the practice of slavery, which has no place in America, the land
of the free. On the other side of the argument, I know that many of the most respectable men who
were instrumental in founding our country also owned slaves. If statues are removed for the reason
that they portray slave owners, then some of our most important and influential presidents could be
wiped from history, which is

Comparing Unnatural Strategies To Relax
Everyone experiences some level of stress whether it is in their school life, work life, or social
life around friends and family. To relieve stress, many people use different strategies to achieve a
relaxing state. Two major ways people are able to relieve stress is naturally and unnaturally.
Relieve stress naturally involves using your own body and mentality to relax while unnatural
sources of relaxation comes drugs like alcohol, marijuana and tobacco products. Unnatural and
natural strategies are used to promote relaxation. Both methods compare and contrast with their
beneficial uses, long lasting effects, and its controversy on overall health. Even though unnatural
and natural strategies of relaxing takes time, they both produce extra benefits beyond solely
relaxation. Natural strategies, for example, exercising not only enables relaxation if done to an
extent, but also promotes better heart health, muscle growth, endurance, and weight loss. While
these extra benefits are generally desired, to get to the point of feeling relaxation may be longer
and harder to get. Unnatural strategies for relaxation, like alcohol, do not give other health benefits
like exercising, but it is generally easier to achieve a relaxing state with less time and effort.... Show

Doing activities that train the mind to overcome and conquer stressful issues enables a longer

marijuana differs in how long the relaxation lasts. Unlike meditation where you train your mind to
mellow and become calm, the effect of smoking marijuana lasts for as long as the drug is in a body

Disarmament, Demobilization, And Reintegration Of Rebel...
Tori Topic B: Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration of Rebel Groups in Latin America
Less than eight percent of the global population resides in Latin America and the Caribbean, yet
approximately thirty three percent of the world s homicides occur in this region (Watts). More
than 60,000 people have been killed by Drug Trafficking Organizations alone over the past 10
years, and more than 26,000 have gone missing (Morris). Jordan recognizes that a significant
portion of the homicides in Latin America stem from the actions of rebel groups and, as a firm
supporter of peace, urges the international community to address the issue through Disarmament,
Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR). To do so, the global community must shape the
effectiveness and improvement of DDR, as well as specific types of rebel groups such as gangs and
drug cartels. Jordan believes that by addressing these issues, the international community can assist
Latin America in the restriction of the influence and proliferation of rebel groups.
Although Jordan is not in close proximity with Latin America, it is invested in the issue, as the
nation itself is affected by rebel groups in the Middle East. Jordan does not currently have a
presence in Latin America concerning DDR, however, it is experienced with the concept within
its own region, specifically concerning Syria and Turkey (Piro). Jordan has a moderating effect on
rebel groups in much of the Middle East, and is a supporter of free syrian

Canterbury Tales Research Paper
According to the video The Study of English, Chaucer was the first writer to consciously use
English to write his poems, even though he knew Latin and French, which were considered
superior to English (Macneil, MacCrum, and Cran). He was an inspector in the London wool
wharf, a busy job that only allowed him to write at night (Strohm). Chaucer decided to exile
himself after being punished for letting corrupt collectors do as they pleased (Strohm). Chaucer s
exile prompted him to create what is The Canterbury Tales; the creation of an audience that
replaced his small [,] responsive and [personally selected group] back home (Strohm). Chaucer
creates an audience of various people of different social class and functions. Even though Chaucer

I would argue that Chaucer addresses or brings to our attention the cruel reality of the medieval
world. In The Canterbury Tales Prologue, Chaucer characterizes the Knight as a gentle, humble and
worthy man, who loved chivalry, truth, honour, freedom and all courtesy (1). This is the contrary
perception of knights in the medieval times. This implies that Chaucer was explicitly mocking the
knights. He was confronting their corrupt behavior by describing the code of conduct which they
did not keep or respect. In The Canterbury Tales Prologue, Geoffrey Chaucerportrays the social and
religious problems of his time in a very sardonic

Thad Jones Summary
HISTORICAL AND REHEARSAL NOTES
This is one of Thad Jones most iconic arrangements. Don t Git Sassy recalls the energetic, hand
clapping tradition of a church camp meeting, and the energy level stays strong throughout. This
new edition of Thad s work is taken directly from the original ink parts Thad handed out to the
band in 1967, and from Thad s original pencil score now housed in the Thad Jones Archive at
William Paterson University, where Thad served as Founding Director of JazzStudies.
The key to this arrangement is its rhythmic style a hard driving shuffle. In a shuffle, a constant
snare pattern is in tandem with the ride cymbal, all with a very tight skip beat played close to
each upcoming downbeat. The sax and brass figures are tight, always playing their upbeats to lock
in with the ride cymbal/snare skip beat. A great description of this time concept comes from the
legendary Basie alumnus Frank Wess, who once said, That accent is not on the upbeat of four, it s
just before one!
As with many Thad Jones arrangements, a number of key stylistic elements are not printed on the
original chart. The rehearsal comments below are taken from recorded performances of the
original recording by the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Orchestra, and from more recent Vanguard Jazz
Orchestra recordings. This arrangement can be performed at the deepest level when band members
are hearing these great recordings in their minds as they play.

My First day as a Kindergartener
One day afternoon, in my first day of kindergarten as I got out of school I was waiting for my
mom to pick me up and sign me out from my teachers signout list, in order to be released.
However, as I waited, many of my peers were getting picked up but me. As I began to see that
many of my peers began to leave, the classroom started to become more empty. Then as I waited,
I finally got called to be released but I didn t see my mom. I saw a strange woman smiling
towards me and asking me how my day went as I got closer, but I didn t answer. As I walked
towards my teacher and the woman I was really confused and a million things began to cross my
mind. The woman had many children with her which made me feel really doubtful even though I
thought they were her children. However, I then realized that there were too many children in
order for them to be hers. So, if they weren t her children who were they? Or even a more
intriguing question; Who was she? Getting to know her was not so difficult, as I thought it would
be. Even though I didn t say much about myself when she began questioning me I felt there was
going to be a connection between us. As we had walked for a while already with the rest of the
children, we finally arrived to the place she had parked her car. After we got inside her car she
began heading towards a street that I had already passed through with my mom. As she drove

U.S Auto Industry s Market Share and Fluctuations
The U. S. auto industry s share of the market has experienced fluctuations over the past 50 years.

Chrysler was able to capture its share of the market when it acquired Dodge
Brothers, Inc. and when Ford stopped production in 1927 to switch from producing the Model T
to producing the Model A. During the 1950 and 60s Chrysler took over the operations of several
small companies in France, Spain, and Britain. This enabled Chrysler to begin selling cars in
Europe and compete with Ford and GM on foreign markets. In 1970, Mitsubishi Motors of Japan
began producing compact cars under the Chrysler name to be sold in the United States. This led to
a rise in Chrysler s share of the market until the early 80s when Mitsubishi began using its own
name. To counter this move Chrysler formed a joint venture with
Renault of France to produce compact cars. Then in 1987 Chrysler purchased the
Italian company, Nuova Automobili F. Lamborghini, maker of expensive sports cars.
Chrysler also purchased the American Motors Corporation, the maker of Jeep products. These
purchases increased Chrysler s share of the market from 11% to
16.3% and continuing to rise. Chrysler produces nearly 3 million automobiles a year under the
Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep, and Eagle names.
Chrysler is also in the process of producing alternative fuel cars. These include vehicles powered by
electricity, liquefied natural gas, and gasoline methanol mixture.
The future share of the market for the Big Three should remain steady or even increase. Today, the
Big Three is able to produce top of the line, fuel

The Importance Of Social Workers From A Professional...
The importance for social workers to understand communities from a professional perspective is to
help eliminate any potential bias and emotional and/or physical attachment to the studied
community. At the same time, the social worker views the studied community through the lens of
residents living within that community without clouded judgment and fulfillment of personal
agenda. This understanding helps the community generally and/or the specific families living
within it link to the macro level of social work; where the social worker acts as a liaison (or linkage)
between the studied community and policy makers. The benefit of this linkage between the mezzo
and macro level can generate the flow of revenue within the studied community. But one must ask,
what gets lost through this linkage? Some may argue that the dominating policies, laws, and or
regulations (Budget) of white heteronormative society can lose historical and cultural context.

decided to go out for the team pretty confident that I would be the best player on the team
because who ever heard of big hockey in Vancouver? That was the most I ve been wrong in a
long time. The first day of tryouts I could barely skate backwards due to not playing an entire
season and I was completely blown out of the water by my new team. Looking back they weren t
even that good to be honest but compared to me at the time they could have been NHL All
Stars. That was just the beginning of one of the biggest life lessons I would learn. My 5th
practice of the season I got into a fight with one of my teammates because he came over and
started yelling at me for screwing up the drill. This was an enormous shock to me for two
reasons, first one is because it was my first hockey fight and second because it was an enormous
transition to go from being one of the best on your old team to coming to a new one and

Adversity Negative Effects
Intro: Adversity; misfortune, disaster and trauma. We have seen adversity on both the major and
minor levels of the past, present and in fiction. We often see in all aspects the negatives that
adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from
the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York
Times article by Andrew E. Kramer, one reads about the financial growth Russiafaces after a long
time of recession. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde s Pay it Forward One will read about the
emotional and mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement
to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in life, and although there are many negative
consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in
success.
The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact
was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and
native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. The Columbian
Exchange by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the
Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came
generations after. Crosby explains how these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1:
Smallpox was the worst and most spectacular of the infectious diseases mowing down the

Gender Stereotyping Of Sports Media
Gender stereotyping in sports media is something we see everyday in magazines and on TV.
Since sports were invented, males have dominated one of Canada s largest pastimes. Reasons
for this being physicality and strength, but as time progressed women began to become more
involved in the culture of sport. Today there is almost an equal amount of women participating
in sports as man, yet women are still not being represented with the same approach as men.
About a month ago I found a video online that followed a sports reporter who was trying to make
a point about gender stereotyping within sports media. He would interview professional male
athletes but rather than ask them the typical interview questions we see in male sports, such as
has your workout routine changed since... but rather asked them questions that are typically
related to female athlete interviews such as one that was asked to swimmer Michael Phelps
Shaving your body hair gives you an edge in the pool, but how about your love life , or any
comments about reports about your girlish figure . At the end of the video they show real women
athletes being asked these types of questions in real interviews. The men s reactions of
embarrassment to disgust vs. the women s reactions of showing no surprise to being asked these
derogatory questions, says it all. It is no surprise that the sexualization of female athletes is
something all too common in sports media. We ll be looking into the idea of sexualisation in

Research Paper On Disney World
This I Believe I believe Disney World is the happiest place on Earth. I believe in the magic it has to
make you feel like a kid again. When I was fourteen, my family took a trip to Disney World. I was
like any other fourteen year old, worried about what people would think and thinking I was a little
too old to go to Disney World. I was wrong. When I got to magic kingdom, the first thing I saw
were shrubs shaped like Mickey Mouse. Like any other mom, mine wanted to take pictures in
front of anything and everything, which included the Mickey Mouse shaped shrubs. I quickly
got annoyed, but when I started walking down main street the amazement hit me. I started
looking around wanting to take everything in. I saw kids sitting on their dad s shoulders so they
could get a better look. I saw balloons, ice cream, and hats all shaped like Mickey Mouse. The
stores, the characters, the castle, everything was like something I d see in a movie. It was truly
magical. I realized then that I wasn t too old to experience the magic of Disney.... Show more

The Journals Of Lewis And Clark
The Journals of Lewis and Clark Jeffrey Yamada Honors U.S History Mrs. Nylen 12/13/14 The
expedition that Lewis and Clark had been on was a trip to the Pacific or the west. The President
at the time was Thomas Jefferson and he wanted to explore and expand his country after
receiving Louisiana from the French. So Jefferson asked his personal secretary, whose name
was Meriwether Lewis to go on a journey along the Missouri River from St. Louis. Lewis.
Meriwether Lewis was born on August 18, 1774 in the colony of Virginia and he was an
explorer, soldier, and a public administrator. But Lewis did not just agree to the expedition he
wanted his best friend to come with him on the expedition and his name was William Clark.
William Clark was born on August 1, 1770 only four years younger than Lewis and he was also
from the colony of Virginia. He was explorer and a soldier as well as Lewis but he was a Indian
agent and a territorial governor. And when they decided to leave on their journey they had about
40 members in their group including a man by the name York. York was a slave that they brought
along on the trip for the hard and manual labor that they had to do on the expedition. Some of the
many task the Lewis and Clark had to do on their expedition that Jefferson had gave them were to
make a map route to the Pacific Ocean, examine all the Native Americans on their way to the
Pacific Ocean, study wildlife, plants, minerals, resources, and the geography of

Richard A Clarke Book Review
Richard A. Clarke throughout his thirty year career in national security, ten years being in the
White House, was highly informed and able to give a broad perspective on how the United States
fought the war on terrorism at home and over seas. Clarke and every other federal government
officials (except the President) took an oath in which they promised to defend the constitution
against all enemies, foreign and domestic which at the end of his career in Washington gave Clarke
the title for his book in which he focused on the counterterrorism efforts of several administrations
and how they have failed or succeeded. Clarke focuses on how terrorism is handled under the four

He is very clear and passionate about how he feels each Administration handled the war on
terrorism, from calling the success of the Clinton Administration to how he feels about the failures
of the Bush Administrations. Through using the passion he has towards politics Clarke is able to
create a timeline of events and their reactions that are appealing and interesting. The precision that
he uses to navigate around the information he is forced to omit establishes a flow to his story that
allows the reader to follow his story through his 30 year career. As a result of Clarke s time spent
working for the federal government and his ten years working in the White House the credibility of
his accounts of each of these Administrations has a profound contribution on political science as it
provides views from not only within the government as a whole and how they handle terrorism but
also how the White House handles situations and how the policies change dramatically from one
President to another. Clarke s insider view gives political scientists new opportunities to analyze
politics within the White House and in Washington

solar related business opportunities for households in Finland
The purpose of this study is to raise the comprehension and have more knowledge on the flexible
energy management that is associated to business models and chances for households in Finland,
however at once implementing solar power generation into the equation. The main concentration
will be on the demand capabilities, hourly consumption and solar production analysis of households
in Finland ,however other countries like Southern European have also covered for comparison.
Moreover, for fundamentals various models are deliberated, besides which sensitivity on investment
analysis are conducted with choices of realistic scenario. In Finland business opportunities does
exist but however, until now still no attractive returns. Base case analysis demonstrated internal
rates which are among 3,0 % and 1,6 % , this is without demand response benefits, and internal rates
of return among 0,8 % and 0,3 % with them. Therefore, demand response had a really important
positive effect on the returns of an investment during regulation trading activities and solar
production self consumption maximisation.

How Did The War Poet And War Poetry
The war poet and war poetry in general were terms used firstly within context of the World War
I.. From the beginning of the war times, poetry was written mostly by civilians, not by poets.
Such poetry had no established identity. It was later, between 1914 and 1918 when this type of
poetry acquired notion of genre, and so called soldier poets became a species. Enormous increase
in writing poetryrelated to the war occurred. War poetry became very realistic, describing
situation as it was perceived by participants and soldiers. Genre of war poetry was really powerful
it could dramatize, energize and inspire language used in poetry. (DAS,2013,n.p) After the war
poetry came the postwar one, that replaced it. Postwar years after the 1945 witnessed a profound
changes in the cultural, social and political fields. Illustrating the situation it was the rise and fall of
the welfare, manifesto of the Irish republic, British power over Scottish parliament and other
transformations in Britain. Nor poetry remained intact, the literature in Britain has changed as well.

It means that this type of poetry is not idealized but realistic. Even though the war passed, the
destructive elements and melancholia remains. Postwar poetry describes those terrible events
that happened during battles and shows the fact that people dies, and most of them cannot be
saved. Mostly, it does not give reader the hope or assurance of better coming. But despite
everything terrible it reminds us of the good traits inside people, and humanity in mankind. .
Postwar poetry changed from earliest forms from addressing to reader your point of view, to
egoistic I perspective. This second type is seen in Thomas and Barkers poetry in their highly
individualistic technique of writing. Works of poetry from Thomas and Barker do something more.
Their poems evoke feelings and experience. (DAS,

Recently Kreider and colleagues studied the effect of a specific exercise program in overweight
woman with a VLCKD or normal carbohydrate content diet [17], but only few papers that focus
specifically on the influence of VLCKD on sports performance have been published, and with
conflicting results: showing benefits [18,19], no effect [20,21] or impairment [22,23].
The present study set out to investigate if a VLCKD could be useful for athletes, especially for
those engaged in sports involving weight categories where weight loss without negative changes in
the body composition (i.e. loss of muscle mass) and performance is often needed.
To the best of our knowledge no previous study has

Switching Technology For A Network
Switching Technology
Cassandra Anton
Bellevue University Abstract
Switching is a technology that has been used since the first communication networks were
invented. In order to understand switching, we must first discuss switches. A switch is a device
that connects other devices on a network. Switches can also prevent bad packets from spreading
by not forwarding them on. While switches can be helpful to a network they should not be seen as
an instant fix for network issues. There are many benefits to using network switching in a network.
A switch can break one large network into smaller networks so that the distance limitations are
restarted. By creating the smaller networks traffic is isolated, reducing collisions. It can ... Show

In a full switched network, hubs are not used. Instead, switches are used with a dedicated segment
for every node. In this type of network the switch picks up every transmission before it reaches
another node. Since any segment only reaches a single node, the frame only reaches the intended
recipient. This allows many conversations to happen at the same time. Switching also allows a
network to maintain full duplex Ethernet, which allows information to travel from node to switch
and switch to node at the same time. Most networks do not exclusively use switches because of
the costs involved with replacing all hubs. A combination of switches and hubs are typically used
to create an efficient and less costly network (Tyson 2001).
When switching on layer 2, there are three important functions that a network administrator should
remember. The first, address learning, is when layer 2 switches retain the source hardware
address and port interface it was received on. It is then entered into a MAC database called a
forward/filter table. The second, forward/filter decisions, is when a switch looks at the destination
hardware address and finds the interface it is on in the filter table. It then chooses the correct exit
interface for it in the MAC database. Finally, loop avoidance. When redundancy creates multiple
connections network loops

HeavyTech over the last year? e. HeavyTech has $100 million in equity and $50 million in debt.
It plans to issue $50 million in new equity and retire $50 million in debt. Estimate the new beta. a.
Using the CAPM, we compute the expected return as 0.03 + 1.2(0.0792) = 12.5%. We use a

same reason, we use the market premium over bills. b. The cum‐dividend price, one year from

goes down by the amount of the dividend is $56.25 $2.50 = $53.75. c. Over last year, the expected
return would have been 0.05+1.2*0.0792=14.5%.

My Grandparents In Puerto Ricans
My grandparents were both born and raised in Cidra, Puerto Rico and so were their three
children. They wanted to start a new beginning. Though the exact date is forgotten my
grandparents moved to Cleveland, Ohio sometime in 1989. My grandparents were very poor
when they lived in Puerto Rico since there were not many job opportunities and barely any
resources, my grandparents could barely make ends meet. They wanted to give their children to
have more opportunities and resources that they didn t have when they were younger, so they
decided to leave their home in Cidra. They choose to move to Cleveland because they already had
some familydown here such as brothers, sisters, and even cousins. When my grandparents got to
Cleveland they already knew they made the right decision for their family, Cleveland gave them
a more stable life then what they had in Puerto Rico. There were better educated schools in
Cleveland for their children unlike in Puerto Rico, the food in Cleveland was way more affordable,
medicine as well, and it was easier to find jobs that paid well.
The first migration wave for Puerto Ricans came in 1917 when almost 2,000 people went to New
York. Another wave of Puerto Ricans traveled to New York in the 1940s. Similar to my family, the
Puerto Ricans went to New York to have fresh starts and to find new opportunities to better
themselves. They were also looking for jobs since there was a very high unemployment rate in
Puerto Rico that still somewhat exists today.

Financial statements are used by company owners to evaluate the how the company is doing, also
by investors for making decisions about when to invest or when to sell their shares, by lenders or
banks in order to make decisions about credit worthiness of the company. Financial statements can
be use effectively when the user understands the roles of the financial statements preparer and the
auditors. A company s financial statements represent the management. When using management s
statements, a user need to understand that the preparation of the financial statements requires
management to make substantial accounting estimates and decisions, also in order to choose from
among several alternative accounting principles and methods that are most appropriate within the
guidelines of generally accepted accounting standards (GAAP). Role of an auditor The auditor s
role is different from the role of the management; the auditor is responsible for expressing an
opinion on whether management has fairly presented the information in the financial statements.
During an audit, an independent qualified auditor evaluates the financial statements. During the
audit, the auditor collects evidence to obtain reasonable assurance that the amounts and disclosures
in the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An auditor is also responsible to check

Tevye s Fiddler On The Roof
The definition of a fiddler is as follows: a person who plays the violin, especially one who plays
folk music. However, in the play Fiddler on the Roof , the word fiddler has so much more
meaning. It means tradition, balance, and it is also a representation of the people of Anatevka.
The fiddler in the play shows up fairly often. And every time it adds meaning to the play. At the
very beginning, Tevye tells us that the fiddler is a representation of the people of Anatevka: But
in our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to
scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2) And it is completely true.
Throughout the book it is evident that Tevye especially struggles to keep his balance while he tries

Speaking of balance, that s the other thing that the fiddler represents. When Tevye comes back
from the bar, and after speaking to the constable (Pg. 54), the fiddler comes into the scene and
...he circles Tevye, and they dance off together. (Pg. 54). In the book, that s all it says. However,
in the movie you can see the fiddler beckoning Tevye and they begin to dance off together, but
the music slowly begins to spin out of control as the fiddler dances off the stage with Tevye and
the next scene begins. This indicates that the story is going to spin out of control. So that is how
the fiddler represents balance, because the music spinning out of control represents them losing
balance. The music that the fiddler plays represents their balance. Which ties into the first quote I
mentioned, where Tevye explains that each person in Anatevka is a fiddler on the roof trying to
scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. (Pg 2.) So, what the music sounds
like is how balanced they are. If they are beginning to fall off the roof, the music gets more intense
because the fiddler is

Satire In Lysistrata
Satire, Sex and the Role of Women in Ancient Greece
Aristophanes comedy, Lysistrata, uses satire to show the issue of war between ancient Greek
cities and uses women and sex as a weapon to explain the futility of war. Aristophanes was a
playwright, landowner and political representative in Athens born around 450 BCE. He is
considered by many to be like Father of Ancient Comedy. All of Aristophanes comedies show
commentary on the contemporary society and the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta.
The comedy that I will be analyzing today, Lysistrata, was produced in 411 BCE and involves a
sex strike to end the war. In this essay, I will show how Lysistrata reflects and satirizes the
dominance of males in Athenian society, show how the convention of cross dressing conveys the
message of male dominance and speculate how an Athenian society might have responded to men
dressed as women outsmarting men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

allowed out into the public sphere of activity for ritual. Within Lysistrata, we see satire used by
other women characters to explain their cultural norms. When Kinesias tries to use the image of
their sad baby to keep Myrrhine from leaving without having sex, Myrrhine humorously cries out

The monetary effects of authorized betting are substantial and quantifiable. Casino gambling has
become a very popular, widely available form of entertainment in the United States and many other
countries. The industry has spread rapidly in the last 20 years but, relative to its size worldwide,
there has been little scientific analysis of the social and economic effects of gambling (Walker,
Douglas M., and John D. Jackson). What we do know is that there are fundamental monetary
effects incorporated in the development of a casino club which prompts numerous occupations for
development workers and suppliers. From representatives to staff the gambling club, and the
suppliers for a continuous clubhouse, the establishment of a casino presents a number of jobs.
Following this introduction of new jobs other multipliers, like the newly employed using their
paycheck to gamble or to even buy anything regenerates that income into the general economy. Be
that as it may, in light of the fact that a betting venture makes a ton of occupations and a vast
office is fabricated doesn t mean the monetary effects are sure. Non financial effects, for example,
social expenses are typically elusive, hard to gauge, and on equalization

Adult Development Attachment Analysis
Adult Development Interview: Attachment Across a Life Span The notion of attachment and the
attachment theory are primarily associated to John Bowlby, who s articulation of attachment
diverged significantly from all previous theories concerning the importance of social and emotional
bonds formed by a child. The propensity to search for contact with a care giver was not a derived
from inclination, but subsisted as a primary and permanent drive (Broderick Blewitt.2015).
Essentially, the attachment theorychallenged theories of social learning, along with psychoanalysis.
According to social learning theories, attachment is formed with those persons who satisfy social
needs, while psychanalysis maintains that the child creates a deep connection

Pros And Cons Of The LGBTQ Strife In Japan
LGBTQ Strife in Japan The LGBTQ community, around the world, objectively has been treated as
a minority group. Because of this, today we can see efforts that resemble the American civil rights
movement take place. Those who patriciate, do so because this marginalized group has a history of
being discriminated against in more ways than one. Japan though is unique in this aspect. The
LGBTQ community historically has mostly been free to do as they please. It wasn t until recently
that they saw their rights being restricted. Japan has the west to thank for this. Gay marriage is
illegal in Japan. According to Japanese law, they do not have the right to marry but homosexuality
itself is allowed. Why this is will be explained later. Some positives of today are that the age of
consent remains the same as heterosexuals and the idea of conversion therapy is banned
(Equaldex). Unfortunately, that is basically were the positives end. Japanese law is very ambiguous
on several topics when it comes to homosexuals. This is due to the recent awareness of the issue
and action has not been taken yet given the small timeframe; more on that later. Some of these
ambiguous restrictions include, the ability to adopt children, and joining the military. Perhaps the
reasoning for the adoption restriction is fueled by the thought that the homosexual parent(s) will
give the child the wrong idea about what family is supposed to be. However, the restriction on
military service though seems to lack

Aids Memorial Quilt Research Paper
The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt is a place for people to celebrates the lives of people
who have died for the causes that related to AIDS. It works as a commemoration for social and
personally expressive. During the 20 centuries, many people who died of AIDS related causes did
not have funerals since the surviving family members felt social imputation of AIDS, and many
funeral homes or cemeteries refused to accept the deceased s remains. This social phenomenon
made AIDS activist, Cleve Jones, have an idea for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. In the candlelight
March in1985, Jones asked people to write the names of their family members who were killed
by the AIDS related causes on signs. Then he was inspired by the signs that were taped on the
San Francisco Federal Building. To Jones, all the signs looked like a huge patchwork quilt. In
1987, Cleve Jones, Mike Smith, and volunteers first started the NAMES project in San Francisco.

The Death Of Trotsky By David Ives
Violence has been a part of plays for centuries. It keeps the play interesting and intriguing, but
however, most of the time there is a greater purpose of violence. When looking for it in plays one
would automatically look for weapons or signs of physically harming someone like. However,
verbiage can be an act of violenceas well. The phrase, sticks and stones may break my bones, but
words will never hurt me is false. Your tongue has no bones, but is strong enough to hurt another
person. Like in the playThe Stronger by August Strindbergwhere Miss Y is verbally insulted
countless of times. Whereas in the play Variations on the Death of Trotsky by David Ives one can
see the physical violence by the tragic murder that occurred. After distinguishing where the violence
is coming from one can then analyze the true role of the violence and compare how the violence
affect the dramas.
When looking at The Stronger you can see just how Miss Y in verbally insulted over and over
again by Mrs. X. While Miss Y is just sitting at a table by herself minding her own business when
Mrs. X shows up. During the entire play Miss Y does not say one word while Mrs. X insults her
and says rude things like, Poor Amelia, I pity you, nevertheless, because I knew you are
unhappy, unhappy like one who has been wounded, and angry because you are wounded. () She
just assumes that she is unhappy because she is in a cafГ© by herself on a holiday. She does not

  • 2. Double Consciousness and the Stranger Essay Throughout history, Georg Simmel and W.E.B. Du Bois have had a significant influence on important theories and ideas developed in the Social Sciences. Perhaps two of the most relevant and well known concepts developed by both of these theorists are the concepts of double consciousness and the stranger . In this paper I will be analyzing both of these pieces of work to draw upon differences and similarities between the two. The similarities I will be elaborating on are the usage of the paradoxical figure, which both Simmel and Du Bois discuss in their theories, and the coexisting feeling of division from mainstream society. The difference between the two theories that I will be exploring is the perception that mainstream society has of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is fixed within a certain spatial circle or within a group whose boundaries are analogous to spatial boundaries but his position within it is fundamentally affected by the fact that he does not belong in it initially and that he brings qualities into it that are not, and cannot be, indigenous to it (Simmel, 143). Simmel defines the stranger as one that is both close and far; that is physically close, but socially distant. He disassociates his concept from the understanding of the stranger as one who comes and goes. Rather, the stranger he speaks of in this case is one who comes and stays, but has not been socialized under the same conditions as mainstream society. Despite this, the stranger is not a person who is withdrawn from society and is unaware of social norms. Rather, someone is inorganically appended to the society, but still an organic member of the group (ibid, 149). The stranger is seen as and valuable member of society because it is, in no way connected to any one individual. The stranger holds a certain objectivity, and can be confessed to without the threat of judgment on the confessor (ibid, 145). Simmel believes that the role of stranger is historically related to certain forms of economic interaction, particularly trade. Because the role of the stranger is never the ... • 3. The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of, if not the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the renaissance period and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona Lisa in 1517 A.D. He s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling. However, the Mona Lisa is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in my home which I couldn t imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned roughly from the 14th century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the history of mankind including Leonardo Da Vinciand MichelangeloBuonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https: //learnodo newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings) One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona Lisa. The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening blending tones and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily two dimensional art. While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you begin to see the effects of Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the shading around her soft eyes. The entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before seen in such great application of art during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s close by and in the forefront. Her hair is soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and rugged terrain behind her almost goes unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before and hopefully, for centuries to come. Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art and Sfumato techniques. Almost the antithesis of Baroque art and it s reliance on straight lines and sharp contrast coupled with popular, or unpopular imperial Louis XIV messaging, Rococo adds some ... • 4. Jack The Ripper Facts Jack the Ripper: Identified After five related prostitute murders in the East End of London in 1888, many theories and conspiracies arose about who the murderer could be. Many suspects were thrown around, but nobody was ever convicted. While there was an extensive investigation, the case was eventually closed. The ending to the story was left to each newspaper and media outlet, all writing their own version of the mysterious Jack the Ripperlegend. Although there was proof to verify and negate many names thrown into the large pool of suspects, it is clear that there is one person who can be pinned to these killings. • 5. The Theories And Principles Of Adult Learning Adult Learning Investigating and understanding the theories and principles underpinning adult learning has helped me to advance my thinking about this phenomena. For instance, Piaget s work involving the formal operational stage, according to Bass (2012) has allowed for the assumption that adults learn in a fixed manner developed in their late teen years and that they remain unchanged from this stage (p. 387). It was assumed that adults, then spent the rest of their lives in that stage. However, other theorist such as Knowles, surfaced during the 1970s to clarify the misconception. It is interesting to note that in the early 1970 s there was a spark of interest and debate over andragogy and the need to define theories within the field (Knowles, et al 2011). Knowles, et al. (2011) support the ideas that there are core principles of andragogy that will enable those designing and leading instruction for adults to be more effective in building learning processes. Additionally, andragogy is based on key assumptions which set it apart from pedagogy learning. Adults learning is usually tied to one of the assumptions of andragogy such as a learners their need to know. For example, this assumption encourages instructors to investigate ways to bridge the gap between the learner s current position and the goals of the instruction. Secondly, Knowles, et al. (2011) claim that adults have a strong need to be responsible for their own decisions, thereby having a strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Henry Louis Jr s The Trials Of Phillis Wheatley Phillis Wheatley, once coined the mother of black literature, now, deemed an imitation is the sole focus of Henry Louis Jr s, The Trials of Phillis Wheatley, in regards to the many perspectives and intrepations pertaining to her poetic works. In closing of the novel, in which he evaluates the various opinions offered, Gates suggests that readers should ...learn to read Wheatley anew, unblinkered by the anxieties of her time and ours. That s the only way to let Phillis Wheatley take the stand. The challenge isn t to read white or read black; it is to read (Gates 89). Such is the stance he assumes and carries throughout his novel. As does the former, Gate s quote, Jefferson reaches these conclusions, in some part, from his reading of Phillis Wheatley s poetry. Yes, he conceded, she may very well have written these works, but they are derivative imitative, devoid of that marriage of reasoning and transport that is, in his view, the peculiar oestrum of the poet. By shifting the terms of authenticity from the very possibility of her authorship to the quality of her authorship Jefferson indicated her for a failure of a higher form of authenticity (Gates 49) demonstrates, Gates , blatant objectivity. There is something underlying that is imperative to understanding just how impartial Gates is. Gates, himself is an African American man, yet he offers evidence that is unpopular, contradicts his beliefs and may well offend him, still, his opinions are (especially in his case) free of bias. This impartiality is indicated by phrases such as, he conceded, Jefferson indicated, and, in his view. Authenticity, is an important word as it is essential to Jefferson s argument, which would subsequently make Wheatley s authorship creditable. Yet again, Gates objectivity is shown as he presents the argument, For wheatley s critics, her sacrifices, nor courage, her humiliations, her trials would never be enough. And so we have come full circle: the sort of racist suspicious and anxieties that attended Wheatley s writing are now directed at forms of black expression that seem ... I choose Mercedes because she is the wife of Charlie and since she is a wife, I think that she would be a great mother archetype. Usually a wife is a very caring and is supportive figure so I think it will fit her well. Mercedes is the only woman in this text not counting female dogs, and unfortunately represents a bunch of gender stereotypes that existed around the turn of the 20th Century. • 9. Essay On Confederate Monuments Of all the things in this world for people to fiercely debate today, 100 year old statues of dead generals have somehow made their way into public discourse. In America, we face an interesting issue that has been ignored for quite some time: what to do with our monuments to Confederate soldiers. There are many reasons why I chose this topic, partly because I am already somewhat knowledgeable on the issue, but I still have much to learn about this topic. Confederate monuments are an important debate being held in our country right now and I intend to help explain why that is and help people to form their own opinions based on strong arguments. In our society today, 150 years after the Civil War, there are still a multitude of reasons to research Confederate monuments. Recently, they have made many appearances in the news, which makes them topical. After President Trump defended protesters at a white supremacist rally, the topic of confederate monument removal has been particularly popular in the media. Conveniently, I think this topic will also suit an argument essay and proposal essay easily as well. On the other side of the argument, I know that many of the most respectable men who were instrumental in founding our country also owned slaves. If statues are removed for the reason that they portray slave owners, then some of our most important and influential presidents could be wiped from history, which is ... • 10. Comparing Unnatural Strategies To Relax Everyone experiences some level of stress whether it is in their school life, work life, or social life around friends and family. To relieve stress, many people use different strategies to achieve a relaxing state. Two major ways people are able to relieve stress is naturally and unnaturally. Relieve stress naturally involves using your own body and mentality to relax while unnatural sources of relaxation comes drugs like alcohol, marijuana and tobacco products. Unnatural and natural strategies are used to promote relaxation. Both methods compare and contrast with their beneficial uses, long lasting effects, and its controversy on overall health. Even though unnatural and natural strategies of relaxing takes time, they both produce extra benefits beyond solely relaxation. Natural strategies, for example, exercising not only enables relaxation if done to an extent, but also promotes better heart health, muscle growth, endurance, and weight loss. While these extra benefits are generally desired, to get to the point of feeling relaxation may be longer and harder to get. Unnatural strategies for relaxation, like alcohol, do not give other health benefits like exercising, but it is generally easier to achieve a relaxing state with less time and effort.... • 11. Disarmament, Demobilization, And Reintegration Of Rebel... Tori Topic B: Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration of Rebel Groups in Latin America Less than eight percent of the global population resides in Latin America and the Caribbean, yet approximately thirty three percent of the world s homicides occur in this region (Watts). More than 60,000 people have been killed by Drug Trafficking Organizations alone over the past 10 years, and more than 26,000 have gone missing (Morris). Jordan recognizes that a significant portion of the homicides in Latin America stem from the actions of rebel groups and, as a firm supporter of peace, urges the international community to address the issue through Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR). To do so, the global community must shape the effectiveness and improvement of DDR, as well as specific types of rebel groups such as gangs and drug cartels. Jordan believes that by addressing these issues, the international community can assist Latin America in the restriction of the influence and proliferation of rebel groups. Although Jordan is not in close proximity with Latin America, it is invested in the issue, as the nation itself is affected by rebel groups in the Middle East. Jordan does not currently have a presence in Latin America concerning DDR, however, it is experienced with the concept within its own region, specifically concerning Syria and Turkey (Piro). Canterbury Tales Research Paper According to the video The Study of English, Chaucer was the first writer to consciously use English to write his poems, even though he knew Latin and French, which were considered superior to English (Macneil, MacCrum, and Cran). He was an inspector in the London wool wharf, a busy job that only allowed him to write at night (Strohm). Chaucer decided to exile himself after being punished for letting corrupt collectors do as they pleased (Strohm). Chaucer s exile prompted him to create what is The Canterbury Tales; the creation of an audience that replaced his small [,] responsive and [personally selected group] back home (Strohm). I would argue that Chaucer addresses or brings to our attention the cruel reality of the medieval world. In The Canterbury Tales Prologue, Chaucer characterizes the Knight as a gentle, humble and worthy man, who loved chivalry, truth, honour, freedom and all courtesy (1). This is the contrary perception of knights in the medieval times. This implies that Chaucer was explicitly mocking the knights. This new edition of Thad s work is taken directly from the original ink parts Thad handed out to the band in 1967, and from Thad s original pencil score now housed in the Thad Jones Archive at William Paterson University, where Thad served as Founding Director of JazzStudies. The key to this arrangement is its rhythmic style a hard driving shuffle. In a shuffle, a constant snare pattern is in tandem with the ride cymbal, all with a very tight skip beat played close to each upcoming downbeat. The sax and brass figures are tight, always playing their upbeats to lock in with the ride cymbal/snare skip beat. A great description of this time concept comes from the legendary Basie alumnus Frank Wess, who once said, That accent is not on the upbeat of four, it s just before one! As with many Thad Jones arrangements, a number of key stylistic elements are not printed on the original chart. The rehearsal comments below are taken from recorded performances of the original recording by the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Orchestra, and from more recent Vanguard Jazz Orchestra recordings. This arrangement can be performed at the deepest level when band members are hearing these great recordings in their minds as they play. The opening piano solo at Letter A is shown as ... My First Day As A Kindergartener My First day as a Kindergartener One day afternoon, in my first day of kindergarten as I got out of school I was waiting for my mom to pick me up and sign me out from my teachers signout list, in order to be released. However, as I waited, many of my peers were getting picked up but me. As I began to see that many of my peers began to leave, the classroom started to become more empty. Then as I waited, I finally got called to be released but I didn t see my mom. I saw a strange woman smiling towards me and asking me how my day went as I got closer, but I didn t answer. As I walked towards my teacher and the woman I was really confused and a million things began to cross my mind. The woman had many children with her which made me feel really doubtful even though I thought they were her children. However, I then realized that there were too many children in order for them to be hers. So, if they weren t her children who were they? Or even a more intriguing question; Who was she? Getting to know her was not so difficult, as I thought it would be. Even though I didn t say much about myself when she began questioning me I felt there was going to be a connection between us. As we had walked for a while already with the rest of the children, we finally arrived to the place she had parked her car. After we got inside her car she began heading towards a street that I had already passed through with my mom. As she drove through that street, I saw a playground with a brownish fence ... Chrysler was able to capture its share of the market when it acquired Dodge Brothers, Inc. and when Ford stopped production in 1927 to switch from producing the Model T to producing the Model A. During the 1950 and 60s Chrysler took over the operations of several small companies in France, Spain, and Britain. This enabled Chrysler to begin selling cars in Europe and compete with Ford and GM on foreign markets. In 1970, Mitsubishi Motors of Japan began producing compact cars under the Chrysler name to be sold in the United States. This led to a rise in Chrysler s share of the market until the early 80s when Mitsubishi began using its own name. To counter this move Chrysler formed a joint venture with Renault of France to produce compact cars. Then in 1987 Chrysler purchased the Italian company, Nuova Automobili F. These purchases increased Chrysler s share of the market from 11% to 16.3% and continuing to rise. The importance for social workers to understand communities from a professional perspective is to help eliminate any potential bias and emotional and/or physical attachment to the studied community. At the same time, the social worker views the studied community through the lens of residents living within that community without clouded judgment and fulfillment of personal agenda. This understanding helps the community generally and/or the specific families living within it link to the macro level of social work; where the social worker acts as a liaison (or linkage) between the studied community and policy makers. The benefit of this linkage between the mezzo and macro level can generate the flow of revenue within the studied community. But one must ask, what gets lost through this linkage? Through this essay, I will share this lesson and how it applies to my story and hopefully, it can apply to your story as well. In 8th grade I moved here to Camas from a small town in Alaska where hockey was a lifestyle. We moved after tryouts however so I couldn t playthat season. Over the summer I decided to go out for the team pretty confident that I would be the best player on the team because who ever heard of big hockey in Vancouver? That was the most I ve been wrong in a long time. The first day of tryouts I could barely skate backwards due to not playing an entire season and I was completely blown out of the water by my new team. Looking back they weren t even that good to be honest but compared to me at the time they could have been NHL All Stars. That was just the beginning of one of the biggest life lessons I would learn. My 5th practice of the season I got into a fight with one of my teammates because he came over and started yelling at me for screwing up the drill. We often see in all aspects the negatives that adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York Times article by Andrew E. Kramer, one reads about the financial growth Russiafaces after a long time of recession. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde s Pay it Forward One will read about the emotional and mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in life, and although there are many negative consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in success. The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. The Columbian Exchange by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came generations after. Today there is almost an equal amount of women participating in sports as man, yet women are still not being represented with the same approach as men. At the end of the video they show real women athletes being asked these types of questions in real interviews. The men s reactions of embarrassment to disgust vs. the women s reactions of showing no surprise to being asked these derogatory questions, says it all. • 38. Switching Technology For A Network Switching Technology Cassandra Anton Bellevue University Abstract Switching is a technology that has been used since the first communication networks were invented. In order to understand switching, we must first discuss switches. A switch is a device that connects other devices on a network. Switches can also prevent bad packets from spreading by not forwarding them on. While switches can be helpful to a network they should not be seen as an instant fix for network issues. There are many benefits to using network switching in a network. A switch can break one large network into smaller networks so that the distance limitations are restarted. By creating the smaller networks traffic is isolated, reducing collisions. It can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a full switched network, hubs are not used. Instead, switches are used with a dedicated segment for every node. In this type of network the switch picks up every transmission before it reaches another node. Since any segment only reaches a single node, the frame only reaches the intended recipient. This allows many conversations to happen at the same time. Switching also allows a network to maintain full duplex Ethernet, which allows information to travel from node to switch and switch to node at the same time. Most networks do not exclusively use switches because of the costs involved with replacing all hubs. A combination of switches and hubs are typically used to create an efficient and less costly network (Tyson 2001). When switching on layer 2, there are three important functions that a network administrator should remember. The first, address learning, is when layer 2 switches retain the source hardware address and port interface it was received on. It is then entered into a MAC database called a forward/filter table. The second, forward/filter decisions, is when a switch looks at the destination hardware address and finds the interface it is on in the filter table. It then chooses the correct exit interface for it in the MAC database. Finally, loop avoidance. When redundancy creates multiple connections network loops ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in the play Fiddler on the Roof , the word fiddler has so much more meaning. It means tradition, balance, and it is also a representation of the people of Anatevka. The fiddler in the play shows up fairly often. And every time it adds meaning to the play. At the very beginning, Tevye tells us that the fiddler is a representation of the people of Anatevka: But in our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof, trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. In the book, that s all it says. However, in the movie you can see the fiddler beckoning Tevye and they begin to dance off together, but the music slowly begins to spin out of control as the fiddler dances off the stage with Tevye and the next scene begins. This indicates that the story is going to spin out of control. So that is how the fiddler represents balance, because the music spinning out of control represents them losing balance. The music that the fiddler plays represents their balance. Which ties into the first quote I mentioned, where Tevye explains that each person in Anatevka is a fiddler on the roof trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck. This is due to the recent awareness of the issue and action has not been taken yet given the small timeframe; more on that later.
