This document presents a unified control strategy for a three-phase inverter used in distributed generation systems that enables seamless operation in both grid-tied and islanded modes without switching controllers. The control strategy consists of an inner current loop and a novel voltage loop in the synchronous reference frame. In grid-tied mode, the inverter regulates current while in islanded mode, the voltage controller automatically activates to regulate load voltage upon islanding detection. The control strategy also addresses distorted waveforms under nonlinear loads by proposing a unified load current feedforward approach. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is validated through simulations and experiments.
