The Flame of Life
A single word inserted or removed can change the feeling of a story in an instant; creating tingles
that trickle along the length of your spine or even a compulsive movement to put down the piece
and never pick it up again. In many cases an author will write and rewrite their tales until they are
perfect. Jack London was very much one of these authors, sending his first version of To Build a
Fire to a magazine before rewriting it into the masterpiece of which many are more familiar with
today. However, only one of the versions strongly exemplifies the hard truth and fight against
uncontrollable and unpredictable nature which is realism and naturalism. In many ways are
London s two distinct pieces of work similar, but also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, one man was a physical being, set in stone, while the other was simply a figure of our
imaginations per say, molded to our own liking one merely arrogant, the other simply ignorant. The
main character frozen and idiotic, was drastically changed in these two works.
The details in London s works consume us, and wrap us in his vivid, yet simple and repetitive
descriptions of the settings of his works. In To Build a Fire the depiction of the bitter cold and
the biting frost are what make the reader seem almost cold themselves, and understand how
intense and severe it was a perfect example of realism. The harsh ways in which he wrote
pounding every sense of numbness the man was feeling into the reader chilled us to the bone in the
1908 adaption. London states in the second variation, He did not expose his fingers more than a
minute and was astonished at the swift numbness that smote them...He pulled the mitten on hastily,
and beat the hand savagely across his chest (486). Meanwhile, the 1902 version simply let us know
that it was quite cold and that this man would simply survive even though he may have had to
work for it, there is nothing urgent about the piercing frost. Strong cases of Naturalism and Realism
are evident in the 1908 version. In the latter adaption, London changed key words and elongated

Kia Motors Case Study
There are three ways we can evaluate a company s performance. Financial, operational and
overall effectiveness (Ramsey, J. R., Bahia, B. R., 2013). By looking at financial indicators such
as sales growth, growth of foreign sales and return of investment one can assess if these fulfill the
economic goals that the company have. When using the operational dimension, we look at non
financial elements that may influences the company s performance. This includes market share,
new products introduction, product quality etc. The last of the three, overall effectiveness,
evaluates achievement of goals, perceived overall performance, perceived performance in
relations to its competitors etc (Hult, Ketchen, Griffith, Chabowski, Hamman, Dykes, Pollitte,
Cavusgil, 2008). Kia motors is a south Korean auto manufacturer, founded in 1944 with
headquarters in Seoul. On a yearly basis, they produce more than three million vehicles which is
distributed to 180 different countries across the globe. As of October 2017, they have three
assembly plants in South Korea, located in Hwasung, Sohari and Gwangju in addition they have
facilities in USA, Slovakia, China and Mexico. They have one Research and development (R D)
center in Namyang, one eco technology research institute near Seoul and several R D centers
located in USA, Japan and Germany. Besides operating several car assembly facilities Kia also
uses car kits , which are delivered from Korea but built locally to meet certain needs that the

The Importance Of Being A Self Directed By Jeff Cobb
There are many aspects to being a self directed, intrinsically motivated, and active learner. From our
reading assignments it has become plain that the most important aspect is taking initiative. This
means being someone who doesn t have to be told to learn this or that, but will take the first steps
down the road of learning. Taking the initiative to learn is core to every other aspect, whether we
talk about the 15 Ways of the Successful Self Directed Learner by Jeff Cobb, or come up with our
own definitions and reflections on being an active learner.
Instead of going through the list from our reading assignments, I m going to wing this a bit, and
touch upon the more important aspects which I consider essential to being an active learner.
Apart from being someone who takes initiative with learning, the next most important aspect
would be someone who is independent, as a truly successful active learner is someone who can
ask the questions and find the answers on their own. I think being curious is equally important,
since from this curiosity will spring the desire to learn, as the curious person asks questions and
finds answers to challenges and problems. As Jeff Cobb says it, The proverbial bottom line: the
successful self directed learner simply likes to learn. (Cobb, 2013)
All of these things discuss the qualities of the successful active learner, but there are other aspects
that are equally important, since without the right behaviors a person will never take the

Virgil and Dante Essay
Virgil and Dante
In the note to Canto V regarding Francesca and Paulo, the Hollanders exclaim that Sympathy for
the damned, in the Inferno, is nearly always and nearly certainly the sign of a wavering moral
disposition (112). Indeed, many of the touching, emotional, or indignation rousing tales told by the
souls in Hell can evoke pity, but in the telling of the tales, it is always possible to derive the
reasons for the damned souls placement in Hell. However, there is a knee jerk reaction to separate
Virgil and, arguably, some of the other souls in limbo from this group of the damned, though, with
careful perusal of the text, the thoughtful reader can discern the machinations behind their
damnation.
Although the dynamic between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arguably, like the fathers of the Old Testament, he foresaw what would occur though not
precisely knowing the saving details. Also, like the Hebrew prophets, his work is filled with an
underlying sadness. The Aeneid ends, not with the joy or inevitably glory and majesty that
would be Rome, but with the bitter, angry Aeneas plunging his sword into the breast of Turnus,
howling for revenge for the dead Pallas. Thus, it is not surprising that Virgil ends up in precisely
the same place as the writers of the Old Testament: Limbo. While in the first circle of the damned,
a list is given of these souls which include Moses, Noah, Abel, the patriarch Abraham (IV.58), etc.
However, Out of our midst [Christ] plucked [these shades] (IV.55) shortly after the poet s death.
These are not the only similarities between Virgil and the old prophets: as many came to reach
goodness in and through the Old Testament, so did the poet Satius, who appears in Purgatorio
reach Christianity only by the help of Virgil. True, there is some awkwardness when Statius
confesses this fact to Virgil, but this awkwardness translates also to the rift between the old
prophets and the new, as depicted in the Earthly Paradise in Purgatorio:

Abstract
A virus isolate infecting soybean (Glycine max L.) with characteristic symptoms start as yellowish
patches (chlorosis) along the leaf,s main vein and sometimes between the veins, which turn into
necrotic brown or reddishbrown areas was collected from the Experimental farm of Faculty of
Agriculture, Cairo University ,Giza Governorate during May 2014/2015. To identify the causal
virus, the plants were tested by enzyme linked immunesorbent assay using antibodies against
different Tospovirus i,e. Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), Iris yellow spot virus (IYSV) and
Soybean vein necrosis virus (SVNV). Preliminary results revealed the presence of Soybean vein
necrosis virus (SVNV) in tested soybean plants by double antibody sandwich (DAS ELISA) using
SVNV specific antiserum and by tissue and dot blotting immuneo binding assay. SVNV was able to
infect only 11 plant species from 28 tested by mechanical inoculation. The virus was transmitted by
mechanical means and by phytophagous thrips species; the most efficient vector was

Betrayal Trauma Theory Paper
According to the BTT (Betrayal Trauma Theory), a sexual or domestic abuse victim can exhibit
a deeper trauma if the betrayal originates from a person the victim shared a close relationship
with. This comes to show deception from a close individual will have a greater impact than hate
from a foe. There are multiple components that come into play when explaining the reasons why
an injustice from a friend can cause such distress. There are two reasons that tend to stand out the
most, which could possibly be the most influential. First of all, a friend has gained trust from the
victim and can thus be perceived as a trustworthy person. A friend is the one who helps the victim
with difficult life events and life choices; such as the death of a... Show more content on

No one expects to be betrayed by someone they hold close and dear to them. Someone who has
helped them, someone they have chosen to confide in, someone who the victim thought would
protect them from harm without knowing the person they should have been wary of was the
individual they cared for. On the other hand, the foe is their enemy for a reason. They are meant
to be causing harm to the victim who is already prepared for such attack. The victim knows what
is expected of their enemy, what they should be prepared for mentally and physically. The
unforeseen events are justification for the ample internal damage from a betrayal compared to
the resentment from an antagonist. Although many would say the hostile party is able to
influence the mental, emotional, and physical state of the sufferer to a greater degree than a one
time betrayal but compare it to a natural disaster and a terrorist attack. When a natural disaster
occurs, the public is warned beforehand of the events to come in order to prevent as much
damage as possible while in a terrorist attack it is unforeseen. The attacker is able to cause more
harm to those involved without the victims being able to prevent it. In this instance, the natural
disaster would represent hate from a foe because it is preventable while the terrorist attack would
represent a betrayal from a friend which has never been avoidable. The enemy has always been
seen as a person

Theme Of Love In Antigone
Joseph Keighley was a thirty year old father whose wife had been subjected to a terrible illness.
He loved her so much that he would perform any task she wished for him to do for her. however
as time passes, she had passed away and his devoted heart for her rendered him to not be with any
woman other than his wife. Love, a powerful word and action is often described to be something in
which you devote your feelings and emotion to something or someone with full intent, however
Love in Antigone, a tragic play, written by Sophoclesreciprocates this idea in a completely new
way. A theme that Sophocles writes throughout Antigone could possibly be the idea of loyalty to
the city versus family, and he often grazes upon the origin on many of the themes, providing
sufficient amount of details that could be used to support them. However, a possible main occuring
theme of Antigone is that Love is unconquerable. This theme surfaces in many ways throughout the
play, specifically, in the idea of Love overpowering every aspect that the Greeks and Athenians
believed to be impenetrable. In the midst of the conflict between Creonand Haemon, Creon
strongly dislikes and neglected Haemon s point of view because he believes that he had been
corrupted by a woman. Haemon is accused of being held captive by Antigone and his love for her
recognized [him as] the slave of a woman, referring to the love that Antigone possesses,
overpowering Haemon (Sophocles 769). Sophocles intentionally adds a

It can reach high speeds and operate quickly because its bullet shaped design takes down on
some air resistance (force of air pushing against the train) (Stiefel, How a maglev works). Instead
of it having a flat design where air resistance is higher, the bullet design, which isn t flat, lets the
train have a lower air resistance, its bullet design, making it go faster than normal trains. It is
built with lightweight materials like fiberglass and aluminum (not steel), and it is not limited by
friction from the wheels on the track which would slow down normal trains. This gives you a

Essay about Details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002
An auditor s role in an audit is very important. An auditor must be able to collect enough
evidence to supports their finding, and also be on the lookout for fraud. Company s may or may
not know the law, but it is the job to know the law, and be able to educate and report findings
properly. Since the Sarbanes Oxley Act, there have been provisions that have directly affected
auditors. This paper will include the details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, how ethics and
independence have affected auditors, as well implementation of new standards based on the
Sarbanes Oxley Act. The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, provided changes in the regulations of the

Foreign private issuers must maintain internal control over financial reporting, and they must
evaluate the effectiveness and changes of the internal control at the end of the company s fiscal
year that may affect the financial reporting. The main goal of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is to
increase oversight over financial reporting and financial control (Cohen Broadsky 2004). Ethics
are a major issue which is a reason why the Sarbanes Oxley Act was implemented. Before the Act,
firms focused on growth but not as much on professional values. Revenue was the driving factor in
auditing firms, and auditors were required to find new clients, keep existing clients, and cross
selling. There were also penalties for not obtaining these requirements which could lead to
termination (Jones III Norman 2006). Since the Act many organizations have now implemented
a code of conduct (ethics) which sets standards of how an auditor is supposed to act or a place to
go to seek advice on handling different situations. The code of conduct or ethics can be viewed as
a way an organization wants one to act or behave (Canary Jennings 2007). Since implementation
ethics is being taught more in college classes, and the reason for this is because of the huge
scandals that have occurred. One study showed that the key leadership roles in a company often
have a MBA, so teaching ethics will reach those leaders, and possibly prevent future ethical
dilemmas (Sulivan, D. 2010).

Theme Of Pride In Antigone
The bible considers pride as one of its 7 deadly sins, it is the inception of sin and the root of all
things evil. This negative view on pride is constant throughout many religions. When one has too
much pride or hubris, as the greeks refer to it; they put themselves on the same pedestal as the
gods, they do reckless things like challenging them which undoubtedly never turns out good, as
gods are immortal beings and are considered above us mortals in all terms. In Antigone, Creons
main reason for his ill fate is his hubris; it blinded him to such an extent that he became oblivious
to all the warnings given to him as he believed he could never do wrong and thus wouldn t give
much thought to others with opposing views.
The play starts out with Creon as the new king, he alone has complete control over the city of
Thebes, thus it s not hard to imagine how this drastic change in his lifestyle can bring with it a
surge of excessive pride. He went from being just another citizen to king in a short period of time.
His first mistake was being foolish enough to create a law that contradicts a law of the gods.
This occurs when Creon states, it has been proclaimed to our people that none shall grace him
with sepulture or lament, but leave him unburied, a corpse for birds and dogs to eat, a ghastly
sight of shame. (Hadas, pg 96) In Ancient Greece religion a burial of a person is very sacred, it was
believed to be an essential rite that aided the person on their path to the

Cultural Impact On The Organization
The ways in which leaders embed and transmit culture in both organizations are very different and
have a substantial cultural impact on each site. Stein (2010) gives six primary mechanisms for
embedding culture and six secondary mechanisms for embedding culture. Before reading Schein the
focus was mostly on the, feel of the organization but not how the culturewas created and impacted
by the leader.
Schein (2010, p. 237) points out that, The most powerful mechanisms that founders, leaders,
managers, and parents have available for communicating what they believe in or care about is what
they systematically pay attention to. At the network level, the attention was mostly placed on
compliance. We consistently received reminders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communication was not ongoing and was mostly limited to critical incidents or compliant PPO or
Quality review visits. The culture was to stay out of trouble and stay under the radar. If a school
did have an issue that warranted to the superintendents attention the consequence was usually
extreme. The over all goal of a principal in this district was not to solve problems but keep them
from surfacing. During the study the leadership has changed and there has ben a shift in the culture.
The current superintendent sends consistent e mails requesting good news from all schools to
share at CEC meetings. She often sends e mails sharing what is going well in schools and
highlights. At superintendent meetings with principals which did not occur under the prior
leadership principals are asked to present effective practices in their schools. Her attention is
focused on what schools are doing well which encourages schools to share best practices and build
the entire school district community. The reward may be a verbal shout out , e mail or the ability
to share out in a meeting in both the network or district structure but even these small acts have a
large impact on culture as Schein (2010, p. 237) explains, It is consistency that is important, not the
intensity of the attention.
What leaders pay attention to directly correlates to how leaders allocate rewards and status. In the

Living Conditions of Industrial Cities in the 19th Century
What Were Living Conditions Like in 19th Century Industrial Cities?
The living conditions in the Industrial Revolution varied from city to city depending on how
much the factory owners cared for their workers or how much industry went on there. The
Industrial Revolution gained pace during Victoria s reign because of the power of steam. Victorian
engineers developed larger powerful machines that could run whole factories. This led to a massive
increase in the number of factories. Despite the growing wealth due to trade and commerce, many
of the working people, who actually produced the wealth, lived, worked and died in very poor
conditions. The Industrial Revolution was stimulated by Britain s gargantuan empire and its
growing level of trade. There was increased demand for the export of goods from Britain and
greater pressure on importing goods into Britain.
The industrialisation of Britain s towns and cities had a detrimental effect on the people who came
to live there. Living conditions in the 1800s were incredibly unequal. The rich and powerful factory
owners would live out in the quiet peaceful countryside with lots of creature comforts, whilst
their workers would return into smelly, dirty and minuscule back to back terraces at the end of a
long working day. These homes were usually built with no inside toilets or running water. People
either washed in a tin bath or at a pump outside. Many people decided not to wash at all as it was
the easiest option. There was a

Though I ve been to Mexico countless times, this trip was different. I was there to volunteer at

Every day at Kadima, I learned about each patient s disability. I oversaw their routines, relaxed

From the perspective of the lessee, this case would be treated as a finance lease because it

lease as a lease that transfers substantially all the risk and rewards incidental to ownership of an
asset. Some indicators for a leaseto be classified as finance lease are: fair value, non cancellability,
contingent rent, transfer of ownership, bargain purchase option, lease term, economic life, and
minimum lease payments (AASB 117 par 10 11). In this case, we can see that some of the

Lastly, it also satisfied the minimum lease payment, where the inception of the lease the present
value of the minimum lease payment amounts to at least substantially all of the fair value of the
asset which is $349, 160.Therefore, this lease agreement could be treated as a finance lease.
b) Present Value First, as the lease is non cancellable and at the inception of the lease the present
value of the minimum lease payments amounts to at least substantially all of the fair value of the
leased asset (calculations provided below), the lease is a finance lease.
Present value of 4 lease payments of $100,000discounted at 20% (we eliminate the executory

Present value of unguaranteed residual$80,000 x 0.482= $38,560 $349,160
c) Schedule of Lease Receipts for the Lessor
Note: Because the first receipt occurs immediately it is not discounted.
The implicit rate is the rate that, when applied to the minimum lease payments plus unguaranteed
residual, causes the sum of these present values to equal the fair value of the asset at lease
inception. It is emphasised that unguaranteed residuals are not part of the minimum lease payments
because the lessor is not required to make such payments. However, knowledge of the unguaranteed
residual is necessary to determine the interest rate implicit in the lease. Using 20 per cent, the
present value of the minimum lease payments, plus the unguaranteed residual, is:

Elements Of Comedy In Merchant Of Venice
The genre of William Shakespeare s most performed play has been debated for a long time: is it
a comedy or a tragedy? The play has elements of both genres, but one is clearly prevalent. While
the story hits upon the tragic element of despair, The Merchant of Venice by William
Shakespeare, is a comedy because lovers are separated, characters are in disguise, and the story has
a happy ending.
From the very beginning of The Merchant of Venice, we see the comedic element of lovers being
separated time and time again. First, Jessica and Lorenzo are not permitted to marry or see each
other because of their different religions and her father s fervent hatred for Christians. Lorenzo
certain, and my love indeed / For who love I so much? (2.vi.30 31). Jessica and Lorenzo and
certain they are in love, despite the distance that separates them. Later, in Act 3, Bassanio must
leave Portia to return to Venice where Antonio is waiting to see him one last time. And then away
to Venice to your friend! / For never shall you lie by Portia s side / With an unquiet soul (3.ii.317
19). This separation between Bassanio and Portia allows the audience to connect with the irony of
these young lovers struggle. These separations between lovers lead to another element of comedy
costumes.
Of the three women in this play, each dresses as a man once, furthering the comedic air with
clever disguises. Jessica starts off the chain of costumes by dressing up as a torchbearer to flee
from her father s house. Cupid himself would blush / To see me thus transformed to a boy
(2.vi.39 40). Jessica s readiness to run away from her father triumphed over her embarrassment
about dressing as a man. In the same way, Portia and Nerissa don the clothes of lawyers to save
their husbands friend. There you shall find that Portia was the doctor / Nerissa there, her clerk
(5.i.298 9). This lie s hilarity is furthered when Balthazar is praised for being smarter than most
men. But the comedic elements don t stop there.
Accordingly, almost every character receives happy news at the end of the play, which doesn t
happen in tragedies. Antonio learns that his despair was all for naught when Portia hands over a
letter. Sweet lady, you have given me life and

Love And Love In Yiyun Li s Story Extra

Her definition of love would be very different than of someone whom is married to someone they
truly chose. This supports the claim that Li was trying to make the reader understand that there are
many definitions of love.
Granny Lin becomes very affectionate towards Old Tang during the short period she takes care
of him. While bathing him the text states that, Old Tang is the only man Granny Lin has seen in
full nakedness (Li 9). This new sight is fascinating to her but she becomes reluctant and almost
afraid, The frail nakedness filled her heart with a tenderness she had never experienced, and she
has since tended his body with motherly hands (Li 9). I argue that she is afraid because the
thought of a naked man has been foreign to her never having have experienced it. She does not
know how to approach how she is feeling. She has never experienced having emotional
attachment to any man and believes that this is love . This could be compared to young love , and
how people often criticize teens for not understanding what love is. Although, experience and age
shapes new ideas of love. I think these are the ideas that Li was trying to portray.
Old Tang s death comes shortly during the time they ve spent together. Granny Lin explains that

What Are The Rhetorical Techniques Used In Sicko By...
Sicko is a narrative created by Michael Moore that puts an spotlights on medical insurance in
America. The narrative gives an inside and out comprehension and examination of the endless
human services issues in America. A large part of these issues result from the defilement show in
the American medical coverage industry. The message that Michael Moore is attempting to get
crosswise over to his crowd is that of the everlasting status inside the American healthcare insurance
framework. Mr. Moore Sicko documentary was compelling because he incorporates two rhetorical
techniques which are pathos and logos. He thinks about and differentiate, questions American s
ethics, and offers meetings to get the watcher to agree with the contention with these techniques.
First, he uses pathos in his documentary by capturing the audience attention by comparing and
contrasting our health care to other countries who have universal healthcare like France, Britain,
Canada, and Cuda. Within a couple of scenes of the film Moore had demonstrated a man sowing
his own knee, a man who needed to choose which finger he needed to pay for to get settled, and a
79 year old man as yet attempting to pay for his remedies. This influences the watcher to express
sensitivity for the general population affected by medical coverage organizations. Poignancy is
Michael Moore s principle system to get his contention over. All through the documentary are
heartbreaking family stories that are used to influence the

Importance of Diet in Reducing Uric Acid
Diet itself is so important. The typical Western diet contains lots of animal protein which can be
high or very high in purines. So eating these high purine foods only increases the risk of uric acid

Donald Trump Is Not Short On Controversy And Criticism

Introduction
Donald John Trump is not short on controversy and criticism when it comes to his outspoken
persona and views on certain issues. Hence the reasons why I chose to write about Donald Trump.
However, to give credit Trump had success of developing businesses such as real estate. A
spotlight has been hovering over him for the majority of his years because of his status among
society. With his notoriety in his show The Apprentice , he became not only a businessman, but also
a celebrity through television. Trump indeed has influences in the entertainment, business and
political world which makes him a solid candidate for the 2016 presidential run. His charisma and
his ambitious, yet controversial personality is what drove me to choose to write about him.
The most significant curiosity that I have, however, is whether a businessman and essentially a
celebrity can possibly become president. He already has a large following because of his celebrity
notoriety and has influential partners to back him during his campaign. So the momentum that he
has going into this presidential election is increasingly become rapid. His celebrity status and his
long listed resume of creating businesses, undoubtedly brings political and public attention to his
accountability and campaign.
Biography
Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York.

Motor Vehicle Accidents Are The Number One Killer Of...
When it comes to auto maintenance, every aspect of your vehicle is important. This comes as
an obvious for most car owners. Despite this being common knowledge, a large majority of auto
owners tend to delay or neglect their maintenance altogether. In 2010, British American Auto
Care found that 85% of cars in the United States needed repair or maintenance. Not only does
regular service and maintenance reduce your costs, as scheduled maintenance outweighs large
repairs, it impacts your safety. The BAAC study went on to explain that, motor vehicle accidents
are the number one killer of people aged 1 44. Over 2,600 deaths occur each year because of car
neglect, and nearly 100,000 disabling injuries happen every year. This means that eleven people
are injured every hour and one person dies every three hours due to accidents which could have
been prevented. While all auto servicing is important, when it comes to the safety of you and
your passengers, your tyres are paramount. The study went on to find that 21% of vehicles
studied lacked ideal pressure, 16% lacked ideal depth and, potentially the most troubling, 11%
suffered from tyre damage. While these should come as obvious facts, let s delve into why
exactly you cannot put off your tyre care. If you fail to maintain your tyres, you should expect to
see a decline in your vehicle s stopping distance, ride and handling, fuel economy and several other
core performance components. Even if a tyre appears sufficient to

The Two Eras of Globalization and Trade
Globalization and Trade: Since the mid of the Nineteenth century particularly after the end of
the cold war, Globalization has become the catchphrase that attracts everybody. However
Globalization is a complex concept to be defined, there are many different definitions of
Globalization. According to Thomas Friedman in his book The Lexus and the Olive Tree, he
defined Globalization in terms of PARADIGM SHIFTS as the follow: it is the inevitable
integration of markets, nation states and technologies to a degree never witnessed before in a
way that is enabling individuals, corporations and nation states to reach around the world farther,
faster, deeper and cheaper than ever before and in a way that is enabling the world to reach into
individuals, corporations and nation states farther, faster, and deeper, cheaper than ever before.
Moreover, Globalization is represented in two eras. First, which started in the mid of the
nineteenth century and ended with the start of the World War I (WWI), and the Second era began
in the aftereffects of the World War II (WWII) and still continuous until today. The Two eras of
Globalization were described by increased cooperation and integration in trade, smooth capital
flows and free movement of labors. In another words, under the umbrella of Globalization, any
product that has been manufactured in somewhere in the globe could easily finds its way into the
market in another part of the world. In addition, since this process became the

The low tapping on the roof signaled the arrival of yet another summer shower. My mind was

who are locked up in prison often provide the system with an extremely cheap source of labor.
Furthermore, those in prison are suavely people who come from poor or low income families.
Yet, they are charged high rates when talking to family members in prison. In some places, one

Although Pablo was seen as an enemy to the US and the Colombian government he was
recognized as a hero to the poor population of Medellin and this would be a major contributor to
the long lasting success of his cartel. Pablo would constantly promote his Robinhood image to the

people of Medellin would return the favor by serving as look out for him and helping him evade

entity entered the equation, AT T. What does this mean to the customer, the dependability of each

The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Summary
In both the worlds of existential feminism and radical feminism, the housewife is separated a
degree below other women, as a figure deemed lesser, or even other, form women within the
feminist movement. In Simone de Beauvoir s 1949 novel The Second Sex, the housewife
embodies the feminine other, a woman who takes the reason men subjugated women, embraces
it, and then uses it to her advantage. She becomes the example of how women adapt and survive
in the patriarchy, and the women who sacrifices her autonomy to live in comfort and safety,
rather than attempt to reform society. Beauvoir makes the housewife the definition of the
feminine other to justify how women sacrifice their autonomy and ability to obtain
transcendence if they remain complacent in male society. What defines women as the other is
not found in the state of nature or social history but in her biology and the overbearing
consequences of her ability to become pregnant. In Beauvoir s work, Women are inherently
different from men in the biology and how omnipresent it is in their lives, and biology defines
women because at the time she wrote The Second Sex the consequences of sex permeated every
aspect of daily life. With birth control still difficult to obtain, the consequences of sex are at the
forefront of a women s mind, and if she wants to be sexually active, she must constantly consider
the impacts another life will have on her finances, her home, her relationships and her work, if she
is able to find it. A

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Re-Pricing Model
Koch and MacDonald, (2010), discussed the problem of finding an optimal Gap ratio, they stated
that there is no specific optimal Gap ratio for all financial institutions and each company must
evaluate its overall risk and return profile and objectives to determine its optimal GAP . A number
of hedging studies suggest that a full hedge might not always be optimal for a financial
intermediary (Grammatikos and Saunders, 1983; Junkus and Lee,
1985).
Wetmore and Brick, (1990), argue that zero Gap may not be optimal because of the basis risk, which
implies that a financial institutions might be in better position with non zero Gap. 2 8 1 3

It basically predicts the maximum possible loss given a certain scenario by using probability
distributions. This can be done in two ways, either by approximating the distribution by a
parametric approximation such as a normal distribution or by considering the actual distribution.
Usually, the confidence level used is 95 percent (Jorion, 2001). For example, suppose a daily
VaR is stated as $100,000 for a 95 percent level of confidence. This means that there is only 5
percent chance that the loss the next day will be greater than $100,000. In other words, we
expect this portfolio to lose more than $100,000 in one out of twenty days. Therefore, VaR is a

Thesis Statement On Verbal Violence
Chapter Three: Verbal Violence
A Crucial Element of American Drama
In this chapter I will scrutinize the original thesis statement that verbal violence has eventually
become a more crucial element of contemporary American plays, furthermore it has apparently
become more aggressive and dominant. My aim is to show how verbal abuse appears in significant
plays (before a detailed analysis on the chosen plays: Quills, A Streetcar Named Desire and The
Vagina Monologues) and why is has become an important element of American drama.
Hate speech or the use of verbal violence is problematic as Tara Schoeller stresses it in her
dissertation, due to the fact that legally speaking The First Amendment protects speech. Though the
United States Supreme Court has created some exceptions to this statement, as Schoeller claims, ...

Into the category of low level speech or hate speech we could list the destructive language of
pornography and general everyday offensive speech, threats and fighting words (8). Freedom of

American democracy while hate speech attacks a group or an individual, it is not a reflection of
true democratic American values, but rather the ruination of them (13).
One could argue that the use of verbal violence towards a group or an individual is a tool for a
strong expression, although Schoeller argues that these debates or fights are very seldom
intellectual and reasonable (16). Furthermore, as she states, many times in a dialogue hate speech
makes the participants so violent and frustrated (psychologically speaking) that they are not likely
to discuss important matters in a civilized way (16). She brings up a metaphor by saying that
based on her research many scholars claim that hate speech as a form of communication is a

The Spiritual Gift Of Apostles And Prophets
Introduction The Word of God instructs Christians that the body of Christ is built on the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone (Eph. 2:20).
Nevertheless, the debate is still on going if the office of the apostles and prophets ceased during
the Apostolic Age or if it has continued on to the present day. This research paper will offer the
Charismatic Movement opinion that advocates the interpretation of modern day apostles and
prophets. A history of Charismatic theology will be provided. A survey of modern day apostles
and prophets will be examined. An assessment of these viewpoints will be explained and the
conclusion will close out the research paper. How to uncover your spiritual gift is an important
start for every believer to further the body of Christ. Every spiritual gift is a reflection of God s
nature that is within every believer, and understanding these gifts is imperative. The spiritual gift of
apostle and prophet was the first and most important gift given after the death, burial, and
resurrection of JesusChrist. Over the last 1,800 years the government of the church, mostly the legal
structure of Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Churches has had little to say about apostles
and prophets. However, in more recent times apostles and prophets have been reemerging and
taking their place in leadership within the church. This research paper will try to help the reader

What Is The Mood Of The Nutcracker By Tchaikovsky
Many artists created and performed music during the period of Romanticism in Europe. Artists
during this period masterfully combined multiple musical components to create memorable pieces
that they delivered to the public through performances. The artists combined musical components
such as form, texture, tempo, melodic range, articulation, dynamic(s), and timbre to create an
enjoyable musical experience. By utilizing all of the different musical components, composers
created timeless pieces that attracted large crowds of commoners as well as noble and royal
families. Tchaikovsky was a musical composer that stood out from the rest of the musical
composers during the Romantic period. According to Biography, com, Tchaikovsky was born Pyotr

He was actually commissioned by a choreographer named Marius Petipa. According to Betsy
Schwarm in an article called The Nutcracker from the Encyclopædia Britannica, the Nutcracker
was inspired by and based off of a story called The Nutcracker and Mouse King , by E.T.A.
Hoffman. When Tchaikovsky started to compose the Nutcracker, he did so without much vigor.
Tchaikovsky believed that the Nutcracker was not a very good piece and he frequently compared
the quality with his earlier ballet called Sleeping Beauty. The Nutcracker was finished in the year
1892 and parts of the ballet were performed in December of the same year. The ballet turned out to
be a failure the first time it was performed. Many of the viewers did not like the idea of the ballet
and thought that the costumes were tasteless and plain. Though the viewers did not enjoy the
ballet, Tchaikovsky reported that they enjoyed the orchestral part of the ballet. Perhaps why the
viewers enjoyed the orchestral part of the ballet more than the choreographed part is because of the
musical components that Tchaikovsky combined to make the musicenjoyable for the listeners. The
Nutcracker is a ballet composed of two acts. The first act is called the Stahlbaum home and the
second at is called the Land of Sweets, each act with their own set of special ballet characters that
are supposed to preform. The acts also have their own synopsis as well as their own scripts.
Throughout the whole ballet the composer notably made use of tempo, texture, consonance,

Attention everyone, a creaky voice scratched out on the old speaker, Attention, judging for
showmanship is about to begin, everyone please round up your animal and come to the ring.
My nerves instantly hit me, my hands instantly became frigid, unwilling to move even one
centimeter. Everywhere around there was nothing but faded denim jeans, cowboy boots, old t

animals bounced around in my head, making it more difficult to concentrate. The smell of
manure and farm animal burned my nostrils as I shook my head to clear my thoughts. All
around me people quickly rushed to their animals to do one last check over, pluck away the
straw, fluff the wool, clear the crust, and check the hooves, all while freshening up themselves.
Meanwhile I carefully took my market lamb away from the craziness and meandered to the front
of the ring without a care in the world. It was fair time yet again, sometimes it brought out the
best, and sometimes the worse, in people. I however was in a man s world in showing, each year

Modern Day, Multi National Companies Are Becoming More...
In contemporary organizations where globalization and multi national companies are becoming
more popular, management requires flexibility in how to handle different issues and manage each

to management, classical, behavioral, quantitative, and modern. Each of the approaches were
practiced commonly in the past, however in the modern day, organizations must incorporate each

At Microsoft the chief executive officer is in charge of the company as a whole and holds the
most power while the executive vice presidents oversee each of the departments with managers
overseeing employees at the retail level. An advantage of this approach is that when issues occur
at the retail level such as technical issue that employees are unable to handle, the manager is
available to solve these minor issues. Weber describes this advantage of bureaucracies as the
capability of attaining the highest degree of efficiency since employees have knowledge of who
handles which issues and employees are also highly trained in their routine responsibilities
(Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Alan Marsden shows another advantage of bureaucracy through its use
in banks, where the impersonal employee behavior gives customers a sense of equality and the
formal rules in place prevent larger issues such as banks over borrowing (Marsden 2009).
However due to the strict procedures, when larger issues occur, the bureaucratic approach causes
delays to communicate to higher executives on how to solve issues. Critics have pointed out that
the delays become a disadvantage in the modern day since management must be flexible and adapt
to different scenarios, however the rules and regulations in bureaucracy do not allow these changes
to occur easily (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Overall, the

These signatures communicate a balance of intellect and intuition in Syracuse s program and their
belief in the power of human relationships.
I look to Syracuse because of the people whom I have met that actuate the university s philosophies
on every level. On the national and international stages I have seen Syracuse faculty, students, and
alumni influence the direction of our profession. Locally, as I found on my visit to the program,
these same people are humble and willing mentors who truly value one on one human connection
and collaboration. Following the body of Syracuse s community member s work, publications, and
teachings, it is clear that the Syracuse community s actions are just as strong as the philosophy that
drives them.
Striving to uphold and forward Syracuse University ideals at the Ph.D. level takes large financial
and time investments from both student and institution. Thus, Syracuse shows its dedication to
forwarding its mission by offering assistantships and fellowships to students. With my application

important for the growth of the tree. The tree is compared to a family that has several members.
All members in the family might have the similar personalities and interests because they are
related by blood. Similarly, in Red Queen and Glass Sword, there is a family that has seven
members including parents, three sons and two daughters. Moreover, the two outstanding siblings

In the final analysis, Mare and Shade are siblings, but their background information is quite
different. Also, their traits are not the same as one another. Furthermore, these two siblings were
born with special talents which are incomparable. As one can see, both of them have unfortunate
ending that no one has expected. They are admirable people, but sadly, they have a complicated
life. One of them is dead, while another one is struggling for unpredictable future. Nevertheless,

Oliver Wendell Holmes The Path Of The Law
THE PATH OF THE LAW BY OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, JR.
The Path of the Law , originally put forth in the form of a speech, was presented by
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. in the year 1897. He is considered as one of the forerunners of
American Legal Realism. In The Path of the Law, broadly speaking,
Holmes speaks about the Prediction Theory of law, the Bad Man Account of the law, and his
criticism of Legal Formalism. In this paper, the reader will find arguments either for or against
these theories.
Holmes starts The Path of the Law with the Prediction Theory. He states that law is not a mystery
but a well known profession. In any given legal setup, the lives of people are governed by the
command of the law. The law lays down fixed rules and
regulations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Langdell s formalism is largely based on logic and codified laws. The judges simply apply the
law of the land to the issue at hand. They are bound by the letter of the law. Holmes criticized
this form of formalism by stating that, The life of the law has not been logic: it has been
experience .6 In other words, the way law has been practiced and its growth over the years has
been based not on how the judges deduce the laws from statutes and apply them, but how they
apply laws is based on what they feel is correct. Such decisions may seem arbitrary, but they are
actually based on logical reasoning in accordance with laws in force.
However, to critique Holmes s stand, one may say that a law needs to be uniform so that there is
no ambiguity as to what the stance of a law is with regard to a particular manner. An example
from recent times in India, with regard to the problems faced by following a legal realism model
would be the Naz Foundation case. This case was with regard to consensual sex amongst members
of the same gender. The Delhi High
Court ruled in favour of consensual sex amongst members of the same

Teenage Curfew For Teenagers
Many states are require a curfew for teenagers on weekdays and weekends. Many students will
say that having a curfew should be required because teenagers are walking the street and could get
kidnapped, teenagers would be at a higher risk of having an accident behind the wheel while
driving, and it gives teenagers the privilege to learn responsibilities. There are many reasons why
teenagers should have a curfew.
There is many nights you will see kids or teens walking the streets at night. Would you let your
child walk around at night? Teens shouldn t be out late at night due to safety. Having your teen
rome the streets at night could put them at a risk of danger. At any time during the night they
could be taken by a stranger. There are enough crazy people out there that wouldn t mind taking
your child from you. Someone could easily pick the kid up off the street without anyone
knowing. Your child without any parental supervision walking the streets is a great opportunity
for anyone to snatch them up. Allowing your child to walk the streets at night could possibly
put them at risk of getting hit by a vehicle too. Drivers at night don t always see what is ahead of
them. Just simply walking down the road could be the last time you saw your kid. Do us all a favor
and get your child in by curfew.
Most teens these days are wild and out of hand. They go out partying, do drugs, and go to places
they really shouldn t be. Teens will lie to their own parents about what they are doing or where
they are just to continue. By sixteen most of them get their license. Being an inexperienced
driver driving at night isn t the best idea. Many teen drivers always have a passenger with them,
probably another teen, during any situation. So driving at night could have quite a bit of
distractions especially considering more than half of teens use their phones while driving. Driving
at night comes with a few responsibilities too. Some people walk at night, wild animals are out at
night, you always have to watch for other cars, and their is a high risk you could fall asleep behind
the wheel. Because teens don t get enough sleep, many have sleep deprivation. Not getting enough
sleep is a chance of someone falling asleep behind the

Reasons Behind The War On Drugs
This paper aims to elaborate the significant reasons behind the war on drugs between the Mexican
government and the drug cartels in Mexico and examine the impact of this conflict on Mexico and
on US National Security. Drug Trafficking or any other illegal activity related to drug Cartels and
gangs pose an imminent threat to the Mexican governance because of the corruption and the
violence they generate. Illegal drugs affect not only Mexicobut also the U.S in terms of trafficking
and consumption. The Mexican government has always taken many initiatives to fight this threat
and the pressure of the U.S has put the Mexican government in a complex situation with no other
alternative than to continue to fight. The war on drugs in Mexico took a different turn when
President Calderon took office in 2006. He implemented the Merida Initiative, a bi lateral anti
narcotics initiative funded by the US and Mexico. Since the Mexican government has declared the
war on drugs, its impact on the nation has been profound and the violence it generated has even
crossed the border. The urge to create a safe environment for socio economic development and to
decrease violence linked to drug trafficking in the US are two significant reasons behind the war on
drug in Mexico through the Merida Initiative. Moreover, the militarization of security strategies in
Mexico to combat drugs has resulted in an increase in violence and human rightsviolations in the
nation. It has also threatened the US border

  • 2. The Flame of Life A single word inserted or removed can change the feeling of a story in an instant; creating tingles that trickle along the length of your spine or even a compulsive movement to put down the piece and never pick it up again. In many cases an author will write and rewrite their tales until they are perfect. Jack London was very much one of these authors, sending his first version of To Build a Fire to a magazine before rewriting it into the masterpiece of which many are more familiar with today. However, only one of the versions strongly exemplifies the hard truth and fight against uncontrollable and unpredictable nature which is realism and naturalism. In many ways are London s two distinct pieces of work similar, but also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, one man was a physical being, set in stone, while the other was simply a figure of our imaginations per say, molded to our own liking one merely arrogant, the other simply ignorant. The main character frozen and idiotic, was drastically changed in these two works. The details in London s works consume us, and wrap us in his vivid, yet simple and repetitive descriptions of the settings of his works. In To Build a Fire the depiction of the bitter cold and the biting frost are what make the reader seem almost cold themselves, and understand how intense and severe it was a perfect example of realism. The harsh ways in which he wrote pounding every sense of numbness the man was feeling into the reader chilled us to the bone in the 1908 adaption. London states in the second variation, He did not expose his fingers more than a minute and was astonished at the swift numbness that smote them...He pulled the mitten on hastily, and beat the hand savagely across his chest (486). Meanwhile, the 1902 version simply let us know that it was quite cold and that this man would simply survive even though he may have had to work for it, there is nothing urgent about the piercing frost. Strong cases of Naturalism and Realism are evident in the 1908 version. In the latter adaption, London changed key words and elongated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Kia Motors Case Study There are three ways we can evaluate a company s performance. Financial, operational and overall effectiveness (Ramsey, J. R., Bahia, B. R., 2013). By looking at financial indicators such as sales growth, growth of foreign sales and return of investment one can assess if these fulfill the economic goals that the company have. When using the operational dimension, we look at non financial elements that may influences the company s performance. This includes market share, new products introduction, product quality etc. The last of the three, overall effectiveness, evaluates achievement of goals, perceived overall performance, perceived performance in relations to its competitors etc (Hult, Ketchen, Griffith, Chabowski, Hamman, Dykes, Pollitte, Cavusgil, 2008). Kia motors is a south Korean auto manufacturer, founded in 1944 with headquarters in Seoul. On a yearly basis, they produce more than three million vehicles which is distributed to 180 different countries across the globe. As of October 2017, they have three assembly plants in South Korea, located in Hwasung, Sohari and Gwangju in addition they have facilities in USA, Slovakia, China and Mexico. They have one Research and development (R D) center in Namyang, one eco technology research institute near Seoul and several R D centers located in USA, Japan and Germany. • 4. The Importance Of Being A Self Directed By Jeff Cobb There are many aspects to being a self directed, intrinsically motivated, and active learner. From our reading assignments it has become plain that the most important aspect is taking initiative. This means being someone who doesn t have to be told to learn this or that, but will take the first steps down the road of learning. Taking the initiative to learn is core to every other aspect, whether we talk about the 15 Ways of the Successful Self Directed Learner by Jeff Cobb, or come up with our own definitions and reflections on being an active learner. Instead of going through the list from our reading assignments, I m going to wing this a bit, and touch upon the more important aspects which I consider essential to being an active learner. Apart from being someone who takes initiative with learning, the next most important aspect would be someone who is independent, as a truly successful active learner is someone who can ask the questions and find the answers on their own. I think being curious is equally important, since from this curiosity will spring the desire to learn, as the curious person asks questions and finds answers to challenges and problems. As Jeff Cobb says it, The proverbial bottom line: the successful self directed learner simply likes to learn. (Cobb, 2013) All of these things discuss the qualities of the successful active learner, but there are other aspects that are equally important, since without the right behaviors a person will never take the ... • 5. Virgil and Dante Essay Virgil and Dante In the note to Canto V regarding Francesca and Paulo, the Hollanders exclaim that Sympathy for the damned, in the Inferno, is nearly always and nearly certainly the sign of a wavering moral disposition (112). Indeed, many of the touching, emotional, or indignation rousing tales told by the souls in Hell can evoke pity, but in the telling of the tales, it is always possible to derive the reasons for the damned souls placement in Hell. However, there is a knee jerk reaction to separate Virgil and, arguably, some of the other souls in limbo from this group of the damned, though, with careful perusal of the text, the thoughtful reader can discern the machinations behind their damnation. Although the dynamic between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arguably, like the fathers of the Old Testament, he foresaw what would occur though not precisely knowing the saving details. Also, like the Hebrew prophets, his work is filled with an underlying sadness. The Aeneid ends, not with the joy or inevitably glory and majesty that would be Rome, but with the bitter, angry Aeneas plunging his sword into the breast of Turnus, howling for revenge for the dead Pallas. Thus, it is not surprising that Virgil ends up in precisely the same place as the writers of the Old Testament: Limbo. While in the first circle of the damned, a list is given of these souls which include Moses, Noah, Abel, the patriarch Abraham (IV.58), etc. However, Out of our midst [Christ] plucked [these shades] (IV.55) shortly after the poet s death. These are not the only similarities between Virgil and the old prophets: as many came to reach goodness in and through the Old Testament, so did the poet Satius, who appears in Purgatorio reach Christianity only by the help of Virgil. True, there is some awkwardness when Statius confesses this fact to Virgil, but this awkwardness translates also to the rift between the old prophets and the new, as depicted in the Earthly Paradise in Purgatorio: Go read Ezechiel who ... Abstract A virus isolate infecting soybean (Glycine max L.) with characteristic symptoms start as yellowish patches (chlorosis) along the leaf,s main vein and sometimes between the veins, which turn into necrotic brown or reddishbrown areas was collected from the Experimental farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University ,Giza Governorate during May 2014/2015. To identify the causal virus, the plants were tested by enzyme linked immunesorbent assay using antibodies against different Tospovirus i,e. Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), Iris yellow spot virus (IYSV) and Soybean vein necrosis virus (SVNV). Preliminary results revealed the presence of Soybean vein necrosis virus (SVNV) in tested soybean plants by double antibody sandwich (DAS ELISA) using SVNV specific antiserum and by tissue and dot blotting immuneo binding assay. SVNV was able to infect only 11 plant species from 28 tested by mechanical inoculation. Betrayal Trauma Theory Paper According to the BTT (Betrayal Trauma Theory), a sexual or domestic abuse victim can exhibit a deeper trauma if the betrayal originates from a person the victim shared a close relationship with. This comes to show deception from a close individual will have a greater impact than hate from a foe. There are multiple components that come into play when explaining the reasons why an injustice from a friend can cause such distress. There are two reasons that tend to stand out the most, which could possibly be the most influential. First of all, a friend has gained trust from the victim and can thus be perceived as a trustworthy person. A friend is the one who helps the victim with difficult life events and life choices; such as the death of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No one expects to be betrayed by someone they hold close and dear to them. Someone who has helped them, someone they have chosen to confide in, someone who the victim thought would protect them from harm without knowing the person they should have been wary of was the individual they cared for. On the other hand, the foe is their enemy for a reason. They are meant to be causing harm to the victim who is already prepared for such attack. The victim knows what is expected of their enemy, what they should be prepared for mentally and physically. The unforeseen events are justification for the ample internal damage from a betrayal compared to the resentment from an antagonist. Although many would say the hostile party is able to influence the mental, emotional, and physical state of the sufferer to a greater degree than a one time betrayal but compare it to a natural disaster and a terrorist attack. When a natural disaster occurs, the public is warned beforehand of the events to come in order to prevent as much damage as possible while in a terrorist attack it is unforeseen. The attacker is able to cause more harm to those involved without the victims being able to prevent it. In this instance, the natural disaster would represent hate from a foe because it is preventable while the terrorist attack would represent a betrayal from a friend which has never been avoidable. The enemy has always been seen as a person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Theme Of Love In Antigone Joseph Keighley was a thirty year old father whose wife had been subjected to a terrible illness. He loved her so much that he would perform any task she wished for him to do for her. however as time passes, she had passed away and his devoted heart for her rendered him to not be with any woman other than his wife. Love, a powerful word and action is often described to be something in which you devote your feelings and emotion to something or someone with full intent, however Love in Antigone, a tragic play, written by Sophoclesreciprocates this idea in a completely new way. A theme that Sophocles writes throughout Antigone could possibly be the idea of loyalty to the city versus family, and he often grazes upon the origin on many of the themes, providing sufficient amount of details that could be used to support them. However, a possible main occuring theme of Antigone is that Love is unconquerable. This theme surfaces in many ways throughout the play, specifically, in the idea of Love overpowering every aspect that the Greeks and Athenians believed to be impenetrable. In the midst of the conflict between Creonand Haemon, Creon strongly dislikes and neglected Haemon s point of view because he believes that he had been corrupted by a woman. Haemon is accused of being held captive by Antigone and his love for her recognized [him as] the slave of a woman, referring to the love that Antigone possesses, overpowering Haemon (Sophocles 769). • 10. Essay about Details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002 An auditor s role in an audit is very important. An auditor must be able to collect enough evidence to supports their finding, and also be on the lookout for fraud. Since the Sarbanes Oxley Act, there have been provisions that have directly affected auditors. This paper will include the details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, how ethics and independence have affected auditors, as well implementation of new standards based on the Sarbanes Oxley Act. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Foreign private issuers must maintain internal control over financial reporting, and they must evaluate the effectiveness and changes of the internal control at the end of the company s fiscal year that may affect the financial reporting. The main goal of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is to increase oversight over financial reporting and financial control (Cohen Broadsky 2004). Ethics are a major issue which is a reason why the Sarbanes Oxley Act was implemented. Before the Act, firms focused on growth but not as much on professional values. Revenue was the driving factor in auditing firms, and auditors were required to find new clients, keep existing clients, and cross selling. There were also penalties for not obtaining these requirements which could lead to termination (Jones III Norman 2006). Since the Act many organizations have now implemented a code of conduct (ethics) which sets standards of how an auditor is supposed to act or a place to go to seek advice on handling different situations. The code of conduct or ethics can be viewed as a way an organization wants one to act or behave (Canary Jennings 2007). Since implementation ethics is being taught more in college classes, and the reason for this is because of the huge scandals that have occurred. One study showed that the key leadership roles in a company often have a MBA, so teaching ethics will reach those leaders, and possibly prevent future ethical dilemmas (Sulivan, D. 2010). ... • 11. Theme Of Pride In Antigone The bible considers pride as one of its 7 deadly sins, it is the inception of sin and the root of all things evil. This negative view on pride is constant throughout many religions. When one has too much pride or hubris, as the greeks refer to it; they put themselves on the same pedestal as the gods, they do reckless things like challenging them which undoubtedly never turns out good, as gods are immortal beings and are considered above us mortals in all terms. In Antigone, Creons main reason for his ill fate is his hubris; it blinded him to such an extent that he became oblivious to all the warnings given to him as he believed he could never do wrong and thus wouldn t give much thought to others with opposing views. The play starts out with Creon as the new king, he alone has complete control over the city of Thebes, thus it s not hard to imagine how this drastic change in his lifestyle can bring with it a surge of excessive pride. He went from being just another citizen to king in a short period of time. His first mistake was being foolish enough to create a law that contradicts a law of the gods. This occurs when Creon states, it has been proclaimed to our people that none shall grace him with sepulture or lament, but leave him unburied, a corpse for birds and dogs to eat, a ghastly sight of shame. (Hadas, pg 96) In Ancient Greece religion a burial of a person is very sacred, it was believed to be an essential rite that aided the person on their path to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stein (2010) gives six primary mechanisms for embedding culture and six secondary mechanisms for embedding culture. Before reading Schein the focus was mostly on the, feel of the organization but not how the culturewas created and impacted by the leader. Schein (2010, p. 237) points out that, The most powerful mechanisms that founders, leaders, managers, and parents have available for communicating what they believe in or care about is what they systematically pay attention to. Communication was not ongoing and was mostly limited to critical incidents or compliant PPO or Quality review visits. The culture was to stay out of trouble and stay under the radar. If a school did have an issue that warranted to the superintendents attention the consequence was usually extreme. The over all goal of a principal in this district was not to solve problems but keep them from surfacing. During the study the leadership has changed and there has ben a shift in the culture. The current superintendent sends consistent e mails requesting good news from all schools to share at CEC meetings. She often sends e mails sharing what is going well in schools and highlights. At superintendent meetings with principals which did not occur under the prior leadership principals are asked to present effective practices in their schools. Her attention is focused on what schools are doing well which encourages schools to share best practices and build the entire school district community. The reward may be a verbal shout out , e mail or the ability to share out in a meeting in both the network or district structure but even these small acts have a large impact on culture as Schein (2010, p. 237) explains, It is consistency that is important, not the intensity of the attention. • 13. Living Conditions of Industrial Cities in the 19th Century What Were Living Conditions Like in 19th Century Industrial Cities? The living conditions in the Industrial Revolution varied from city to city depending on how much the factory owners cared for their workers or how much industry went on there. The Industrial Revolution gained pace during Victoria s reign because of the power of steam. Victorian engineers developed larger powerful machines that could run whole factories. This led to a massive increase in the number of factories. Despite the growing wealth due to trade and commerce, many of the working people, who actually produced the wealth, lived, worked and died in very poor conditions. The Industrial Revolution was stimulated by Britain s gargantuan empire and its growing level of trade. There was increased demand for the export of goods from Britain and greater pressure on importing goods into Britain. The industrialisation of Britain s towns and cities had a detrimental effect on the people who came to live there. Living conditions in the 1800s were incredibly unequal. The rich and powerful factory owners would live out in the quiet peaceful countryside with lots of creature comforts, whilst their workers would return into smelly, dirty and minuscule back to back terraces at the end of a long working day. These homes were usually built with no inside toilets or running water. People either washed in a tin bath or at a pump outside. Many people decided not to wash at all as it was the easiest option. • 17. Elements Of Comedy In Merchant Of Venice The genre of William Shakespeare s most performed play has been debated for a long time: is it a comedy or a tragedy? The play has elements of both genres, but one is clearly prevalent. While the story hits upon the tragic element of despair, The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, is a comedy because lovers are separated, characters are in disguise, and the story has a happy ending. From the very beginning of The Merchant of Venice, we see the comedic element of lovers being separated time and time again. First, Jessica and Lorenzo are not permitted to marry or see each other because of their different religions and her father s fervent hatred for Christians. Lorenzo certain, and my love indeed / For who love I so much? (2.vi.30 31). Jessica and Lorenzo and certain they are in love, despite the distance that separates them. Later, in Act 3, Bassanio must leave Portia to return to Venice where Antonio is waiting to see him one last time. And then away to Venice to your friend! / For never shall you lie by Portia s side / With an unquiet soul (3.ii.317 19). This separation between Bassanio and Portia allows the audience to connect with the irony of these young lovers struggle. These separations between lovers lead to another element of comedy costumes. Of the three women in this play, each dresses as a man once, furthering the comedic air with clever disguises. Jessica starts off the chain of costumes by dressing up as a torchbearer to flee from her father s house. Cupid himself would blush / To see me thus transformed to a boy (2.vi.39 40). Jessica s readiness to run away from her father triumphed over her embarrassment about dressing as a man. In the same way, Portia and Nerissa don the clothes of lawyers to save their husbands friend. This could be compared to young love , and how people often criticize teens for not understanding what love is. Although, experience and age shapes new ideas of love. Sicko is a narrative created by Michael Moore that puts an spotlights on medical insurance in America. The narrative gives an inside and out comprehension and examination of the endless human services issues in America. A large part of these issues result from the defilement show in the American medical coverage industry. The message that Michael Moore is attempting to get crosswise over to his crowd is that of the everlasting status inside the American healthcare insurance framework. Mr. Moore Sicko documentary was compelling because he incorporates two rhetorical techniques which are pathos and logos. He thinks about and differentiate, questions American s ethics, and offers meetings to get the watcher to agree with the contention with these techniques. First, he uses pathos in his documentary by capturing the audience attention by comparing and contrasting our health care to other countries who have universal healthcare like France, Britain, Canada, and Cuda. Within a couple of scenes of the film Moore had demonstrated a man sowing his own knee, a man who needed to choose which finger he needed to pay for to get settled, and a 79 year old man as yet attempting to pay for his remedies. This influences the watcher to express sensitivity for the general population affected by medical coverage organizations. Poignancy is Michael Moore s principle system to get his contention over. Hence the reasons why I chose to write about Donald Trump. However, to give credit Trump had success of developing businesses such as real estate. A spotlight has been hovering over him for the majority of his years because of his status among society. The Two Eras of Globalization and Trade Globalization and Trade: Since the mid of the Nineteenth century particularly after the end of the cold war, Globalization has become the catchphrase that attracts everybody. However Globalization is a complex concept to be defined, there are many different definitions of Globalization. According to Thomas Friedman in his book The Lexus and the Olive Tree, he defined Globalization in terms of PARADIGM SHIFTS as the follow: it is the inevitable integration of markets, nation states and technologies to a degree never witnessed before in a way that is enabling individuals, corporations and nation states to reach around the world farther, faster, deeper and cheaper than ever before and in a way that is enabling the world to reach into individuals, corporations and nation states farther, faster, and deeper, cheaper than ever before. Moreover, Globalization is represented in two eras. First, which started in the mid of the nineteenth century and ended with the start of the World War I (WWI), and the Second era began in the aftereffects of the World War II (WWII) and still continuous until today. The Two eras of Globalization were described by increased cooperation and integration in trade, smooth capital flows and free movement of labors. • 30. The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Summary In both the worlds of existential feminism and radical feminism, the housewife is separated a degree below other women, as a figure deemed lesser, or even other, form women within the feminist movement. In Simone de Beauvoir s 1949 novel The Second Sex, the housewife embodies the feminine other, a woman who takes the reason men subjugated women, embraces it, and then uses it to her advantage. She becomes the example of how women adapt and survive in the patriarchy, and the women who sacrifices her autonomy to live in comfort and safety, rather than attempt to reform society. Beauvoir makes the housewife the definition of the feminine other to justify how women sacrifice their autonomy and ability to obtain transcendence if they remain complacent in male society. What defines women as the other is not found in the state of nature or social history but in her biology and the overbearing consequences of her ability to become pregnant. In Beauvoir s work, Women are inherently different from men in the biology and how omnipresent it is in their lives, and biology defines women because at the time she wrote The Second Sex the consequences of sex permeated every aspect of daily life. With birth control still difficult to obtain, the consequences of sex are at the forefront of a women s mind, and if she wants to be sexually active, she must constantly consider the impacts another life will have on her finances, her home, her relationships and her work, if she is able to find it. One could argue that the use of verbal violence towards a group or an individual is a tool for a strong expression, although Schoeller argues that these debates or fights are very seldom intellectual and reasonable (16). Furthermore, as she states, many times in a dialogue hate speech makes the participants so violent and frustrated (psychologically speaking) that they are not likely to discuss important matters in a civilized way (16). Each of the approaches were practiced commonly in the past, however in the modern day, organizations must incorporate each managementapproach to different business situations and work environments. In the modern day, multi national companies face issues such as culture shock, conflicting ethical standards, and working conditions that vary between countries. With these varied cultures, managers must... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At Microsoft the chief executive officer is in charge of the company as a whole and holds the most power while the executive vice presidents oversee each of the departments with managers overseeing employees at the retail level. An advantage of this approach is that when issues occur at the retail level such as technical issue that employees are unable to handle, the manager is available to solve these minor issues. Weber describes this advantage of bureaucracies as the capability of attaining the highest degree of efficiency since employees have knowledge of who handles which issues and employees are also highly trained in their routine responsibilities (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). Alan Marsden shows another advantage of bureaucracy through its use in banks, where the impersonal employee behavior gives customers a sense of equality and the formal rules in place prevent larger issues such as banks over borrowing (Marsden 2009). However due to the strict procedures, when larger issues occur, the bureaucratic approach causes delays to communicate to higher executives on how to solve issues. Critics have pointed out that the delays become a disadvantage in the modern day since management must be flexible and adapt to different scenarios, however the rules and regulations in bureaucracy do not allow these changes to occur easily (Schermerhorn et al. 2014). • 42. Oliver Wendell Holmes The Path Of The Law THE PATH OF THE LAW BY OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, JR. The Path of the Law , originally put forth in the form of a speech, was presented by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. in the year 1897. He is considered as one of the forerunners of American Legal Realism. In The Path of the Law, broadly speaking, Holmes speaks about the Prediction Theory of law, the Bad Man Account of the law, and his criticism of Legal Formalism. In this paper, the reader will find arguments either for or against these theories. Holmes starts The Path of the Law with the Prediction Theory. He states that law is not a mystery but a well known profession. In any given legal setup, the lives of people are governed by the command of the law. The law lays down fixed rules and regulations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Langdell s formalism is largely based on logic and codified laws. The judges simply apply the law of the land to the issue at hand. They are bound by the letter of the law. Holmes criticized this form of formalism by stating that, The life of the law has not been logic: it has been experience .6 In other words, the way law has been practiced and its growth over the years has been based not on how the judges deduce the laws from statutes and apply them, but how they apply laws is based on what they feel is correct. Such decisions may seem arbitrary, but they are actually based on logical reasoning in accordance with laws in force. However, to critique Holmes s stand, one may say that a law needs to be uniform so that there is no ambiguity as to what the stance of a law is with regard to a particular manner. An example from recent times in India, with regard to the problems faced by following a legal realism model would be the Naz Foundation case. This case was with regard to consensual sex amongst members of the same gender. The Delhi High Court ruled in favour of consensual sex amongst members of the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Teenage Curfew For Teenagers Many states are require a curfew for teenagers on weekdays and weekends. Many students will say that having a curfew should be required because teenagers are walking the street and could get kidnapped, teenagers would be at a higher risk of having an accident behind the wheel while driving, and it gives teenagers the privilege to learn responsibilities. There are many reasons why teenagers should have a curfew. There is many nights you will see kids or teens walking the streets at night. Would you let your child walk around at night? Teens shouldn t be out late at night due to safety. Having your teen rome the streets at night could put them at a risk of danger. At any time during the night they could be taken by a stranger. There are enough crazy people out there that wouldn t mind taking your child from you. Someone could easily pick the kid up off the street without anyone knowing. Your child without any parental supervision walking the streets is a great opportunity for anyone to snatch them up. Allowing your child to walk the streets at night could possibly put them at risk of getting hit by a vehicle too. Drivers at night don t always see what is ahead of them. Just simply walking down the road could be the last time you saw your kid. Do us all a favor and get your child in by curfew. Most teens these days are wild and out of hand. They go out partying, do drugs, and go to places they really shouldn t be. Teens will lie to their own parents about what they are doing or where they are just to continue. By sixteen most of them get their license. Being an inexperienced driver driving at night isn t the best idea. Many teen drivers always have a passenger with them, probably another teen, during any situation. So driving at night could have quite a bit of distractions especially considering more than half of teens use their phones while driving. Driving at night comes with a few responsibilities too. Some people walk at night, wild animals are out at night, you always have to watch for other cars, and their is a high risk you could fall asleep behind the wheel. Because teens don t get enough sleep, many have sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep is a chance of someone falling asleep behind the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Reasons Behind The War On Drugs This paper aims to elaborate the significant reasons behind the war on drugs between the Mexican government and the drug cartels in Mexico and examine the impact of this conflict on Mexico and on US National Security. Drug Trafficking or any other illegal activity related to drug Cartels and gangs pose an imminent threat to the Mexican governance because of the corruption and the violence they generate. Illegal drugs affect not only Mexicobut also the U.S in terms of trafficking and consumption. The Mexican government has always taken many initiatives to fight this threat and the pressure of the U.S has put the Mexican government in a complex situation with no other alternative than to continue to fight. The war on drugs in Mexico took a different turn when President Calderon took office in 2006. He implemented the Merida Initiative, a bi lateral anti narcotics initiative funded by the US and Mexico. Since the Mexican government has declared the war on drugs, its impact on the nation has been profound and the violence it generated has even crossed the border. The urge to create a safe environment for socio economic development and to decrease violence linked to drug trafficking in the US are two significant reasons behind the war on drug in Mexico through the Merida Initiative. Moreover, the militarization of security strategies in Mexico to combat drugs has resulted in an increase in violence and human rightsviolations in the nation. It has also threatened the US border ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
