Martin Luther King And Rosa Parks
Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks were inspirational leaders that contributed greatly towards the
civil rights movement. Growing up as an African American racial discrimination had surrounded King
and Park making it hard as colored people were unfairly treated. Both King and Park knew the
inequalities and sought education to aid themselves in their unfair life. Despite this, Park and King
were brought up responsibly by their parents, King was an active civil rights activist, participating in
the Montgomery Bus Boycott , March on Washington and led the Selma to Montgomery march . Rosa
Parks was an influential figure contributing to the civil rights movement as she was the test case the
NCAACP were looking for.

Martin Luther King was an influential figure and contributed greatly towards the civil rights

August 28, 1963, more than 250,000 Americans gathered in Washington, D.C., for a political rally
known as the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The march rallied American to stand up
against the continuous social and political justice that black African Americans faced (HISTORY,

The Race For K 12 Public Education Reform
Teacher compensation is one of many hot button issues in the race for K 12 public education reform in
America. Google (2015), defines compensation as simply the money received by an employee from an
employer as a salary or wages (Google). This definition is perhaps the simplest to understand, but fails
to truly articulate the complex meaning of compensation. Most school divisions include salary, extra
pay, benefits, and pension in their employee compensation package. Leonard Boswell (2015), former
U.S. Representative, stated it best, when he said The American Dream is one of success, home
ownership, college education for one s children, and have a secure job to provide these and other goals
(Brainy Quotes, n.d.). The American dream Boswell spoke of cannot be achieved through meager
means, the question then is Do the very people who help facilitate this dream for the country s youth,
deserve to achieve the dream as well? Most professions compensate for an employee s formal
education as well as any other experiences relevant to the position. Kirby et al. (1993), found the
factors reported to affect teacher salaries included cost of living, revenue generating potential, supply
and demand for teachers, local industry wages and salaries, and salaries of neighboring districts (p.
111). The authors (1993) further explain no one model has been found to satisfactorily explain
variations in teacher salaries within and across geographical regions and In education,

They feel their story is not just for an industry audience, but for everyone; government officials, labor
leaders, industry executives and general readers, in every country with an interest in how society goes
about making things. The best way to describe lean production is to contrast it to its predecessors:
craft production and mass production. Craft production uses highly skilled workers and simple but
flexible tools to make exactly what the consumer asks for, one item at a time. The result is that
consumers get exactly what they want but at a prohibitively high cost. Mass production uses narrowly
skilled professionals to design products made by unskilled or semiskilled workers tending expensive,
single purpose machines. The machines produce standardized products in very high volume. Due to
the high cost of disruption of the process, the mass producer adds many buffers extra supplies,
workers and space to assure smooth production. Also due to high cost of changing over to a new
product, the mass producer keeps standard designs in production as long as possible. The result is the
consumer gets lower costs but at the expense of variety, and workers tend to find their part of the
process boring. Lean production, by contrast, uses teams of multiskilled workers at all levels of the
organization, and uses highly flexible, increasingly automated machines to produce large volumes of
products in enormous variety. The term

Restorative Justice Case Study
Introduction
Over the course of both my undergraduate and master s programs in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution,
and Peacebuilding (NCRP), I have wanted to further study the concept of Restorative Justice. Though
it has surfaced several times throughout my NCRP coursework, it has mostly been in the context of
international conflict. Thus, I have often wondered how Restorative Justice might work in a more
local context. That local context revealed itself in my current role as one of two fathers of a first
grader in a school in Long Beach. Helena, our six year old daughter, attends a small private school
with 160 students in grades K 8. The school community regards itself as being a large, caring, tight
knit extended family, while the administration has been explicit in stating that the incidence of
bullying on the campus is little to none. Our experience as a family in the nearly two years that we
have been part of the community has been otherwise. Here are three bullying scenarios that we ve
experienced or heard of occurring in our school community:
In our first year, two male classmates called our daughter fat when she was in Kindergarten.
Later that same year, a female classmate teased another dark skinned, African American girl in her
class for having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

after the incident, when the boys asked for forgiveness and everyone gave each other a hug. Our

Statutory Rape Essay
The perspective offered by such longitudinal data sheds remarkable light on the problem of statutory
rape, identifying for us key markers, as well as key actors, in the history of the law s enforcement and
helping us to understand their roles in constructing the meaning of this crime over successive
generations. ... The statutory rape codes have been used at various times to reinforce fathers interests
in their daughters marriageability, to protect young women s chastity from seductive men, to control
promiscuous or disease laden adolescent females, to enhance child support collection efforts, to reduce
teenage pregnancy, and to identify and punish sexual exploitation of teenagers. ... Given the constant

Perpetrators of statutory rape were not being pursued vigorously, as the concept of rape based on
presumed inability to consent to sex had fallen out of favor. ... As conservative commentators decried
the harmful public and financial consequences of the rising teen birth rate, a handful of social
scientists devoted their efforts to learning more about the relationships and behaviors that led to births
among teenagers: they studied the youth population and their sexual partners looking for clues to
explain changing patterns of behavior. ... Pursuant to changes in the SRVPP Guidelines, California s
statutory rape enforcement policy grew to encompass all forms of non pregnancy inducing sex
between adults and minors (including sexual behavior short of intercourse, acts between adult women
and teen boys, and acts between same sex partners), as well as crimes involving multiple victims,
pimping/prostitution, the provision of alcohol or drugs to minors, acquaintance rape, and rape of
disabled minors. ... These same themes emerged in the early 1990s, when a new set of fiscally and
morally conservative policymakers became concerned about rising welfare costs and the
demographics of the populations receiving welfare; like their predecessors, they constructed statutory
rape as antithetical to the social norms of financial and sexual responsibility and dangerous to society

The Lamb And The Tyger By William Blake
The Bible states, For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible
and invisible (Colossians 1:16). William Blake wrote poems about this very subject. In his twin
poems, The Lamb and The Tyger , Blake uses different literary techniques such as sound, imagery and
symbolism to echo the common theme of creation along with how it is viewed differently. William
Blake s use of sound in his poems, The Lamb and The Tyger , enhance the central idea of creation and
the question of how one God can create such different creatures. Both poems are similar in how they
have rhyming couplets, a lot of repetition, alliteration and assonance however, they are very different
in a few ways. One is structured in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is shown with his use of imagery as well. Imagery used in The Lamb is very beautiful, natural
and peaceful which is a stark contrast to the dark fearful imagery seen in The Tyger . Little Lamb, who
made thee? Dost, thou know who made thee? (Lines 9 10). Little Lamb, I ll tell thee: He is called by
thy name (Lines 12 13). In the poem The Lamb , Blake paints a sweet, innocent image of a loving and
kind God. This poem is full of child like wonder as the speaker questions and answers who the lamb s
creator is. The nostalgic feel continues as he states, By the stream and o er the mead; Gave thee
clothing of delight, Softest clothing, wooly, bright; Gave thee such a tender voice (Lines 4 7). These
words and ideas leave the reader with a warm, comforted feeling. The image of untouched nature,
green pastures and a soft, little, white, baby lamb is quite different to the imagery Blake uses in The
Tyger . The overall feel of The Lamb is beautiful and tender as Blake describes the lamb in such ways
that are gentle, delicate and alluring. In his poem, The Tyger , Blake creates a dark, scary picture of a
powerful, ferocious creature that is not meek or mild like the lamb. Instead, he states, What immortal
hand or eye, Burnt the fire of thine eyes? Dare its deadly terrors clasp? (Lines 2 14). What the
hammer? What the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? What dread grasp dare its
deadly terrors clasp? (Lines 13 16). These

Clarity Concert Report
On May 28, 2015, high school students Morgan Cassidy and Coralyn Whalen performed their self
choreographed jazz duet, titled Clarity. Clarity is the story of two people in a very addicting
relationship, that is completely hopeless, but continues to hold on to hope. Clarity, along with many
other pieces performed in St. Theresa Catholic Secondary Schools dance recital, was an effective and
eye catching piece that used distinct emotion throughout the entire song. The piece had very
substantial timing issues, and minor technique issues, but overall, the piece demonstrated excellent
partnership and promising potential.
The dancers of Clarity used profound emotion not only in their faces, but in their movements as well.
Throughout the entire dance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this particular piece, it was clear that the dancers were striving to hit each beat perfectly, but their
efforts weren t enough. In most sections of the dance, one of the dancers sometimes both of the
dancers, were not in perfect unison. Perfect timing is essential for a duet to look clean and
professional. If the dancers were to perform this piece again, I would advocate them to work towards
restoring the timing of their number.
My last point is about the dancers techniques, which especially relates to the timing of their piece.
While observing the dance, I couldn t help but notice the amount free movement being used. I don t
necessarily think that using free movement was the best idea for this piece, because the tempo of the
song Clarity is very technical. In my opinion, if the dancers had increased their technique to perfect
their piece, it may have looked professional and complete.
The partnership that Morgan Cassidy and Coralyn Whalen displayed throughout this whole piece
created an excellent number, and promising potential for future pieces. If both dancers work hard to
improve on the few things I have mentioned, I feel that this number will reach its full prospective, in

Allowing new members to come on board helps Disney to stay competitive. New members will have
new and fresh ideas to increase Disney s competitiveness. There are some weaknesses in the company
which include ABC and video games. Even though these two have had some trouble with profits they
still are beating the competition of Comcast, Time Warner and Viacom. The management team at ABC
are working on introducing new shows to bring ABC around. Also, Disney is looking at adding new
Star War games to help with falling sales. Because of the standards of the products and services, the
costs of running the Disney Company is very high. This can lead to layoffs and downsizing which in
turn will hurt the workers and community as well as the company. One other weakness is that
American workers are paid higher wages than other developing countries. Another weakness for the
Disney Company is that new ideas and ingenuity are needed from the workforce to keep customers

Examples Of Greed In A Christmas Carol
In stave two of Charles Dickens novella, A Christmas Carol, the greedy and pessimistic Ebenezer
Scrooge meets the Ghost of Christmas Past and re experiences his Christmases both prior to becoming

this light itself is the symbol of knowledge and truth from the spirits. Scrooge, after spending a whole

Benefits Of A Job For A Resident s Life Span And...
Robert Burney (2015) explains that CCRCs all offer multiple levels of care, but not all contracts cap
long term costs regardless of the level of care. Type A contract facilities are able to cap these costs,
which make them more favorable. However, in order to accomplish this control of futuristic costs,
institutions must require a significant entrance fee for residents. Essentially, residents buy in to their
retirement community and are then contracted at a fixed rate for all futuristic expenses, regardless of
the resident s life span and potential care needs. As one would expect, the initial buy in is very costly
and could range from $50,000 to over $1,000,000 (Burney, 2015). Depending on the needs a resident
may require in the future he or she may be arranging a deal of great value or one that will prove to be
exceptionally expensive. Nevertheless, Type A contracts are made to reflect estimates of average
healthcare costs seen in many elderly persons as they transition through multiple levels of care
(Burney, 2015). Because of these analyzed costs, a facility s financial planner can easily establish
residential rates to cover basic living needs, possible increased healthcare requirements, and the
sustainment of the business. Many vigorous steps of financial planning should be done from all parties
involved in any long term agreement in order to consider the time value of money in regards to
futuristic costs and benefits.

Obesity Today s Youth And Obesity Essay
In the past couple of years there has been an uproar about American health. People are starting to take
notice of the fact that American citizens are getting fatter and fatter every day. Recently, there have
been many documentaries about obesity in today s youth. Children are gaining more weight and
everyone thinks it is because of technology and the lack of outdoor play. That could be the reason, but
it can also be something entirely different. America is known for their big meals and fattening fast
food. There are fast food restaurants around every corner and it is cheap so this also contributes to the
obesity rate rising. Americans are known to other countries as the fat ones . They stereotype
Americans as these fat and lazy people who only think about themselves and, to be honest, it is kind of
true. America is the second country with the most obese people, following closely behind Mexico.
Obesity is at its all time high and the government is slowly taking action to help this growing
epidemic. The problem is the fact that citizens are becoming obese and the obese rate in America will
only get larger if the citizens do not listen to what the government and the people in general are trying
to tell them when they pass all of these laws and actually take action against obesity. This paper will
examine the government s involvement in obesity in American citizens today. The paper will first
discuss the causes of obesity and how out of hand it is starting to

BACKGROUND: The case revolved around Pearl Jam, a famous Seattle based rock band, and Ticket

between the two parties that led to an antitrust violation case against Ticketmaster. The band
advocated low priced tickets for its concerts and insisted Ticketmaster to lower their service charges,
thereby bringing down the ticket cost for its fans. ISSUE: As indicated from the case, Pearl Jam filed a

business and was not able to secure summer Olympics contract due to the ongoing antitrust

Fossil Fuels Are The Dominant Source Of Energy Being Used...
In today s world, fossil fuels are the dominant source of energy being used by humans. The percentage
use of this source of energy ranges from 80 to 90 percent. Fossil fuels can be used directly (e.g.
gasoline) or to produce electricity. The top three fossil fuels that are used in the United States are coal,
oil and gas. One of the problems with fossil fuels is that they are nonrenewable resources which
means that they will run out. Other problems that come with it are direct pollution, air pollution and
global warming. All fossil fuels have a different amount of supplies left on the earth, require different
methods of being extracted from Earth and have various environmental consequences. Coal is a

New technology will help us identify and retrieve untapped coal reserves in the future. The future of
technology will also help us improve the effects of the production and use of coal. Before we had any
advances in technology, miners would use a pick and shovel to mine in the coal beds. We are currently
using drills and other efficient machines to help us reach deeper sites where coal is located. The
conveyer belt helps us retrieve the coal because it pulls the pieces to the surface. Although there is a
big amount of reserves, there are many consequences of using coal. The CO2 produced from the
burning of coal causes global warming. The burning of coal causes acid rain due to the sulfur in coal,
which can cause health problems to people exposed to it. Many people have died from different
accidents that occur in coal mines such as gas explosions from the methane gas. Accidents have
decreased over time because there have been more safety measures and codes made. The most
important fossil fuel in the modern world is petroleum. Petroleum, otherwise known as oil, is formed
from organic residue of plants and animals. It is described as a sticky and foul smelling material.

Intellectual Property ( Ip ) Essay
Intellectual Property (IP) can be broadly described as using human intellect to create something new
or original, and it is collectively comprised of four categories: Trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights,
and patents. Intellectual property is a valuable asset that must be protected and strategically managed.
To fully foster innovation, intellectual property protection is crucial. If protection is lacking, than
businesses and individual would not fully benefit from their inventions and could possibly refrain
from research and development. Intellectual property drives economic growth and competitiveness.
The direct and indirect economic impacts of innovation are overwhelming, accounting for more than
40% of U.S. economic growth and employment (GIPC, 2015, para. 3). Intellectual property
contributes tremendously to our national and state economies. IP accounts for 74% of all US exports,
which amounts to nearly $1 trillion. It is also important for consumers. Solid IP rights assist
consumers in making choices about the safety, effectiveness and reliability in their purchases.
Many industries count on sufficient enforcement of their IP, by means of trade secrets, trademarks,
copyrights, and patents. According to the USPTO (2015) In the United States patents are available to
any person who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or
composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof (para.6). There are three types of

Old Time New York City
When people ask me what time century I wish I could live in, it would be the 1950s. Old time New
York. I love everything about the old style, with the retro feel to it. Now we are in the 21st century,
2016 to be exact and we are sadly far away from those years. I mention this because when I think of
the 1950s, I imagine the big signs with the huge letters in the Broadway font, located in New York
City. People traveled to New York to live the American dream, to own a home and be married and
have lovely children. People also traveled to New York City to make something of themselves. To
make themselves worth something. The city gave them this thrive that if they had a person who
believed in them and money, they could do anything imagined. Old time New York is what I miss and
what I love about the past. But, it is these people who really built up New York City to make it what it
is today. I really appreciate New York for all the history it holds.

Of ThucydidesBiases And Their Consistencies In Greek History
Biases and Their Consistencies in Greek History Humans have made notable accomplishes for many
centuries. Only recently in human history have these events been recorded by other humans. As a
species we naturally have bias, be that toward our culture or an ideology. Thucydides and Herodotus
both had distinct source types as well as biases, but conform to them in different ways reflective of
their different writing styles. First we will examine the sources that Thucydides used and why he uses
speeches. Thucydides was the main source of the information as he lived and held command as a
general during the Peloponnesian War up until his exile to Peloponnesian territory (Thucydides p.
102). His position as a general makes Thucydides an excellent eye witness to many of these instances.
Thucydides spending time with the Peloponnesians gained him insight into those people and how they
would have operated. Thucydides uses himself as his main source as he held a high position in society
and would have access to the events of the war. Thucydides also used other s speeches as resources to
show insight into the events occurring. He used the Melian dialogue to show the wit of the Athenians
and illustrate their impulsive desire to conquer independent cities (Thucydides p. 102 108). This
passage illustrates the beginning of the end for the Athenians. The Melians were a colony of the
Lacedaemonians and did not take a side in the ongoing war, but Athens eventually probed them to war
(Thucydides 102). This foreshadows the battle at Syracuse in which Athens went blindly into out of
desire to simply slight the Spartans. Thucydides uses speeches to show insight to the people s thoughts
and to add foreshadowing to future events. Herodotus used the account of people and their own
traditions as his references in his works. During the beginnings of the war between the Persians and
the Greeks Herodotus speaks of the Persian invasion of the Delians. During the Persians departure
Herodotus uses the Delians as the reference for the events that unfolded next (Herodotus p. 108).
Aside from the mentions of how the stories are sourced from the people Herodotus does not mention
where else his sources came from. Herodotus relied heavily on

A Review of the Effects of Steroid Hormones and Neuropeptides on Social Emotional Behavior
Bos, Peter A., Panksepp, Jaak, Bluthé, Rose Marie, van Honk, Jack (2011). Acute effects of steroid
hormones and neuropeptides on human social emotional behavior: A review of single administration
studies. Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology 33 (2012) 17 35.
1. Introduction/Background Information The discovery of hormones and their function has been
relatively recent. The term was first coined by Professor Earnest Starling in 1905. He derived the word
from the Greek meaning to arouse or excite. However, the idea of the role hormones could be traced
back as far as ancient Greece. Though Hippocrates theory on humors has been refuted, the ... Show

The neuro developmental effects of these chemicals are comparatively well known, while their impact
on human conduct has yet to be fully comprehended.
2. Goals of the study The main goal of this study was to review all of the placebo controlled single
hormone administration studies addressing human social emotional behavior, involving the peptides
oxytocin and vasopressin, and the steroids testosterone and estradiol. This research gives insight into
the underlying neural mechanisms and also demonstrates substantial hormonal control over human
behavior. After reviewing and discussing the placebo controlled studies, they proposed a theoretical
model that synthesized detailed knowledge of neuroendocrinology of social emotional behavior in
animals, as well as the recently gained data on humans. The study of emotional and behavioral
disorders have become more popular in the last twenty years. Characteristics of these irregularities
include: learning disabilities that are not explainable by either sensory, health, or intellectual factors;
persistently inappropriate feelings and conduct; and/or chronic unhappiness or depression (gadoe.org).
The authors of this study thoroughly analyzed the underlying neural mechanisms of supplemental
hormones and how they affect participants as opposed to using a placebo. Research into human
behavior as it relates to neuroendocrinology will be crucial to future generations and their
interrelations.

Architecture People And Landscape Essay
Architecture, People and Landscape The idea of being able to walk on top of the building is something
that does not happen a lot. Connecting the public to the building should be more than just creating a
fascinating and interesting facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able to connect to the
people, by allowing them to not just walk inside or around but on top of the building creating a public
space within. The reason why I chose this topic is that I wanted to make a connection to my studio
project, and how I developed the idea for it. In addition, I wanted to compare it to the Oslo Opera
House and how this assisted me in arriving at my final design. My studio project and the Oslo Opera
House have a different scale however, however I think they share some similar concepts. The idea of
togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the public, and most significantly its
connection to the landscape.
Firstly, the location of the buildings is disparate, the Oslo Opera House(picture 1) does not really have
a connection to the landscape, since it is mostly part of the city surrounded by other buildings and
where traffic is heavy. There might be some connection between the Oslo Opera House and the
landscape of the river, which has influenced the design known as The Wave Wall . My project studio
(picture 2) has a huge connection to the landscape, which allowed me to work around the landscape
instead of being surrounded by buildings. The location of my

Compare And Contrast Essay On Android And Iphones
Imagine that someone wants to be like someone else that is cool and wants to be like them and wear

phone but they go to the phone store and they just found out that they can t get an iphone because it s
so expensive and they can t afford it and they were looking at android phones and they found out that
it s a lot more better when it comes to expenses .Many people these days fight over to talk about
which phone is better Android or Iphones, but they are just phones but there are ups and downs for
both of the brands. One of the reasons is that the expenses of the phones that they make, Almost
everyone can afford and Android they come in different prices and apple prices are really high and a
lot of people can t get that phone because they can t afford it. Android is the most selling phone to this
day still. Another reason is that multitasking is a lot easier they introduced multi window awhile ago,
which means you can look at several apps at once. My last reason is that androids are able to take the
batteries out because they die over time.

Abolition
The abolition movement is one of the most important events that blacks remember and find so
meaningful because it was the attempt to free black slaves. Abolition is the attempt to end slavery and
many of historic figures were apart of this movement. They knew that slavery was wrong and a sin
before God. Abolitionist worked diligently on the cause and William Lloyd Garrison was one who I
admire for his many works. William Lloyd Garrison was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and by
the age of 25 he joined his first abolition movement called The American Colonization Society this is
where his first works began. Garrison and the abolitionist felt that slavery was a crime against God
and man and he also had a strong Christian belief that led him to feel that God had designed him ti do
great things which ended up being to end slavery. By the age of 25 he took a job in Baltimore which
was predominantly black, as a journeyman at the National Philanthropist, where he gained much
experience that he eventually decided to start his own newspaper. January 1, 1831, Garrison published
his first newspaper called The Liberator which the first paper s topic was ending slavery. In 1832 he
helped organize the New England Anti Slavery Society, and, on December 4, 1833, the American Anti
Slavery Society was formed when 63 people signed a manifesto after one of his published

Research Outline Gay Marriage Essay
Introduction The Controversy
Same sex marriage permits couples of the same gender to enter legally recognized marriages and
provides them with the same legal rights as couples in heterosexual relationships (Same Sex
Marriage). Opponents of same sex marriage argue that the institution of marriage should apply to only
unions between one man and one woman. Allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry, they say,
undermines the institution of marriage (Same Sex Marriage).
Where the Issue Stands Today
In America, six states plus D.C. allow same sex couples to marry, three more respect marriages of
same sex couples validly preformed in other states, eight provide civil unions or comprehensive
domestic partnerships, and three more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Federal Marriage Amendment
Since 2002 opponents of same sex marriage have worked to pass a Federal Marriage Amendment
(FMA) to the U.S. Constitution. This amendment would define marriage as a union between one man
and one woman. It has been introduced to the U.S. Congress in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008 but has
failed to gain enough support to pass (Same Sex Marriage)
Proposition 8
On June 16, 2008, California began allowing same sex couples to receive marriage licenses. But on
November 4 of that year, Proposition 8 passed, again banning same sex marriage (Same Sex
Marriage).
California s Proposition 8, which sought to ban same sex marriage, is an attempt to suppress personal
rights and force religious beliefs and codes of behavior on everyone, including non believers. Narrow
minded interpretations of faith often have led to self righteousness and oppression of others, and they
are again on the rise (Stone).
One might argue that Proposition 8 discriminates against gays and lesbians in violation of the Equal
Protection Clause. One might argue that Proposition 8 unconstitutionally limits the fundamental right
to marry. One might argue that Proposition 8 violates the separation of church and state (Stone).
Issue 2: Domestic Partnership and Civil Unions v. Marriage
Difference in Rights
The right to marry is not just about the actual legal ceremony, but an equal right to the extensive list of
legal protections awarded to married couples. These benefits

Pursuing the American Dream in My Antonia by Willa Cather...
Pursuing the American Dream in My Antonia by Willa Cather In the novel, My Antonia, by Willa
Cather, everyone seems to be trying to pursue the American Dream. While they all have different ideas
of just exactly what the American Dream is, they all know precisely what they want. For some, the
American Dream sounds so enticing that they have traveled across the world to achieve their goal.
They work hard to fit in and succeed, but, as in the case of Mr. Shimerda, are not always successful.

stricken family. Lena had one thing on her mind: money. To her the American Dream was wealth. She

She also went to many dances over the summer months. With all of her beautiful dresses, many of the
young men began to notice her as they never had before. Soon Lena began to get a reputation that
many hired girls got, that of a brazen hussy. Everyone thought that she would wind up marrying the
wrong man and ruin her life, but Lena had different plans. She did not listen to anything that they said
about her. As soon as she could, she got her own dress shop in Lincoln and thrived with it. After a
while she moved to San Francisco and did even better. She did not let the stereotype of the hired girls
get in her way of the American Dream. She was determined to reach her goal and with all of her hard
work she did just that. Some families traveled a great many miles to try to win the American Dream.
The Shimerdas came all the way from Bohemia and gambled everything they had to make it in
America. Antonia, the oldest daughter, knew that to succeed in raising her very own family she needed
to learn the customs of this new country. With this in mind, she asked for the help of Jim Burden, her
closest neighbor. Every day she learned a little bit more from him. He taught her farming methods and
other practices of farm life. As she picked up the language, she began to do very well in her new
surroundings. She helped out with all of the farm work and did an excellent job. She worked in Black

Luciferianism In Illuminati
To proceed with, Illuminati really has a religion , more known as a conviction framework, called
Luciferianism or Illuminism. Luciferianism roots from the word Lucifer, which is referred to by
numerous as Satan, the dull leader of the underworld. During the time spent completely understanding
the thinking for utilizing such a dim ruler as a name of a religion, one must first comprehend the
history. In the Bible, a story is told about Lucifer, the most elevated of the heavenly attendants; yet, he
was not fulfilled, and needed more. He needed to supplant God and endeavored creating so as to do
this the first resistance to him. God immediately exiled Lucifer from Heaven and sent him, alongside
one thirds of all blessed messengers away to the underworld. Lucifer, once the great blessed
messenger of light got to be Satan, abhorrent holy messenger of dimness (The New Oxford Annotated
Bible, Luke 10:18). This story clarifies how Illuminati needs the same Lucifer did, the most power
conceivable, which gave them the thought to utilize Luciferianism as their convictions name.

Sodom And Gomorrah Essay
Since the first Torahs and Bibles were written and printed, there has been constant discussion and
argument circling around the aspects of interpretations and what certain passages mean versus what
they don t. As readers of anything, it is important to look for meaning, even more so when it comes to
heavily religious texts like that of the Judeo Christian faiths. Within recent years, the overarching
argument within Christianity specifically, has become about the story of the destruction of Sodom and
Gomorrah. This discussion, however, is not a simple one by any stretch, as the mentioning and
referencing of this event spreads wide across Scripture in both Old and New Testaments. Not only is

Further, the adultery was not only happening, but was encouraged and not stopped. As Jeremiah 23:14
references Sodom and Gomorrah in the fact of prophets, too, committing adultery and strengthening
the hands of evildoers , it goes to show that not only are the people doing these things, but that no one
tries to stop them besides Lot, who gets out safely (NIV).
The second point to contrast against the traditional Christian interpretation of the story of Sodom and
Gomorrah is that the destruction happens because of the non consensual aspect of the narrative. The
men of the city were pressuring Lot, as it says in verse 9, to give these men, or angels, who were under
Lot s protection, up so that they could, essentially, commit gang rape upon them. In Jamieson, Fausset,
and Brown s Bible Commentary, he comments regarding verses 6 8 that,
But the offer made by Lot was so extreme as plainly shows that he had been thrown into a state of the
most perturbed and agitated feeling, between fear of the popular violence and solicitude for the safety
of the strangers that were under his roof (Jamieson).
Lot was so fearful of the violence and rape that the men intended to bring upon them that he became
desperate. He was not only fearful after the beginning of the men s pressing, but when the angels first
arrived as well. In verse 3, Lot, presses them to stay with him, obviously scared for them to stay
outside all night, knowing what the men of the town are

What Is Jane Austen Definition Of Nobility
There are many definitions of noble, from a gold coin to something of magnificent size. There are two
definitions that are particularly similar in the ways people view each other. The first is a hereditary
class of high social status and the second is showing fine personal qualities. In Jane Austen s Pride and
Prejudice, Austen believes that nobility should be defined through the latter definition. Jane Austen
believes that social rank should be determined by one s nobility, meaning their personal qualities
rather that their hereditary class and proves this through the way the characters act, view each other,
and view themselves. Austen believes that rank should not be determined by hereditary class and

Mr. Bingley was unaffectedly civil in his answer, and forced his younger sister to be civil also, and say
what the occasion required (Austen 41). Mr. Bingley was able to be noble and polite and realize his
place even when he was in a difficult situation which shows that he views himself with respect even if
other people do not. Mr. Darcy says that women that can do simple tasks that they all can do are not
considered accomplished, and continues to say that he has not met more than six women who he
would believe are accomplished (Austen 35). This proves that women view themselves as
accomplished and view other women like themselves as accomplished despite other people s harsh
opinions which shows their nobleness. Mr. Darcy proposes to Elizabeth Bennet for the second time

Autism And Autism Spectrum Disorder
To be honest, the first time I read Fifty Shades of Grey, it was for the illicit sex. The second time was
to process what I read. The third, fourth and fifth times was to delve deeper into Mr. Grey s
neurological and psychological impulses. Something about his mannerisms, and the way he interacted
with others, spoke to me on a profound level. I know autism when I see it. For those not familiar with
autism, Autism Speaks, the world s leading autism science and advocacy organization, defines autism
and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain
development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees (hence, a Spectrum that includes
both low and high functioning individuals), by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal
communication and repetitive behaviors. If he could read body language, he wouldn t need the

incredibly high autism populations. But, let s get back to Mr. Grey and my autism theory.

Art films provide opportunities to display unique conventions independent from mainstream

However, there is a flaw in this method to transmit Surrealism, as art films are only accessible to a

makes it impossible to achieve the goal of successfully changing or influencing social attitudes and
behaviour. Cinema is a valuabe creative genre and can be a global form of commuinication. No words
are needed to explore various cultures or dispute political perspective. Film enables viewers the
chance to see the same message in many different ways. Films are also cultural expression created by
particular cultures in order to affect said culture or potray said culture. The 1928 L Etoile de Mer (The

The Impact Of Sports On Sports And Leisure Activities
Section A Introduction Despite it being 2015, there are still many ongoing barriers which are
preventing many people of all ages, races, genders and social backgrounds from participating in sports
and leisure activities. Economically, some sports are just completely unviable to people from certain
backgrounds. Sports such as Polo are completely exclusive to a certain class of people, due to the
mass expenses required to get you started. Inner city families, some of whom may have a member of
the household unemployed would never be able to foot the cost of the bills to play Polo. Along with
the unfeasibility of the costs of certain sports, people are also being excluded from sport due to the
social side of the spectrum. Many sports are perceived as having gender ties and many children are
brought up to identify that a certain sport shouldn t be played by boys as it is a girls sport and vice
versa. This leads to a massive social stigma that is developed during the formative years of schooling
that influences children s decisions on what sports they decide to play. It can also be tied into many
cases of Homophobia in schools, where many homophobic slurs may be attached to a girl who enjoys
rugby, or a boy who enjoys gymnastics. Due to the low number of combination between the sexes in
many sports as children, this leads to a deficiency of integration as adults, therefore making it more
difficult to get involved in a sport as an adult, due to the sport being either male

In case, you didn t know, more than half of the kids who don t wear uniforms to school get bullied

kids like to express themselves by the clothes they wear, having school uniforms decreases the chance

A Popular Model Designed By Bruce W. Tuckman
So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with something like
science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not fundamentally wrong answers, those
with such responses do not understand the full breadth of what genres truly are. According to the
dictionary, a genre is a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content,
technique, or the like (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth of what a genre really
is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their purposes we must first take a step
back and look at some other fundamental concepts. A popular model designed by Bruce W. Tuckman
suggests that all groups experience five phases: forming, storming, norming, performing, and
adjourning (Gulati 439 440). At our cores, humans seek to be accepted and acknowledged by others.
We seek to form social hierarchies to find meaning the areas we are passionate about. This part of
human nature is nothing new, it is something programmed deep into our genes for millennia. It
happens before our eyes every day; sports fans meet in stadiums, video game fans meet at
conventions, artists meet at exhibitions, and so on. People of similar interest meet, one way or another,
and are drawn together by their passion. Some groups remain small friend circles, while others may
grow vastly to be composed of millions of members. These vast communities, known as discourse
communities,

Sr. was one of the most popular silent film star in the 1920s, which appropriately led to him being
nicknamed the first King of Hollywood . So, when newspapers wrote a story in 1952, thirteen years
after his death, about how his son Douglas Fairbanks Jr. found his forgotten and lost collections, it was

and producer Sol Lesser accidently stumbled upon the vast collection in a shack in San Diego that
once was owned by Douglas Fairbanks Sr. Over 250,000 negatives were found, both stills and motion
picture, which included all his films he was in within a thirty year period. At the time, they were
reported to be worth $750,000 in 1952. Adjusted for inflation, as of 2016 the collection was worth
$6,890,354.73 in today s money. This shows the worth of not only Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and the
impression he and his films left on audiences, but also the rare view of filmmaking and Hollywood
that was never meant for public eyes. After the collection was assessed, Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
distributed some of the collection to universities and museums. The then named George Eastman
House received a bulk of these images in 1953 that contained stills of behind the scenes, makeup and
costume tests, set designs and even photographs of prints and pages from books to be used as
reference pieces. The collection is nearly 10,000 nitrate on cellulose negatives in both 4x5 and 8x10
formats. The Thief of Bagdad (1924) and The Gaucho (1927) are two of the larger groups containing
nearly 1,700 and 1,600 negatives

Comparison Of Pilgrims First And Puritans
There were many reasons why English colonists decided to cross the Atlantic. Some dreamed of
owning lands and of a life improvement, others were escaping from something that was troubling
them, and some were trying to institute a way of living based on the sacred scriptures. Pilgrims first
and Puritans after tried to establish a new and much more pure form of worship. Although this two
groups had the same desire to apply the protestant reformation to the new world, certainly they differ
in so many ways. First and foremost the terms and their meanings differ. In fact, while the term
pilgrim indicates the one who made a journey for religious purposes, the term puritan defines the one
that wants to reform and purify the church. In 1620, a group

The Causes Of The American And French Revolution
The American Revolution began with armed conflict in April of 1775 when battles between British
troops and colonial militiamen in Lexington and Concord started. The conflict started from growing
tensions between residents of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the colonial
government, which represented the British crown. The American Revolution lasted until 1783 and
resulted in victory and independence for the colonies. The French Revolution began in 1789 and
ended in 1799 with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. The conflict started because of rising social and
economic inequality, new political ideas emerging from the Enlightenment, economic
mismanagement, environmental factors leading to agricultural failure, unmanageable national debt,
and political mismanagement on the part of King Louis XVI have all been cited as laying the
groundwork for the Revolution. The American and French Revolution were fundamentally similar
because they both were about freedom from oppression, removing economic turmoil and new ideality.
One of the reasons why the American and French Revolution was started because they both were
being oppressed. The Americans were being oppressed by the English, who controlled their
government and the French were being oppressed by their own government. The major turning point
of the American Revolution was July 4th, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. In
the context of the 18th century, liberty was freedom from oppression,

Disadvantages Of Market Failure
Market failure is a situation that occurs when resources are not allocated effectively or efficiently. In
my opinion, market failure means that market allocation is not satisfied everyone s interest. And it will
exist forever.
For example, it appears monopolistic conduct in the market which decreases the role of competition.
And company which produce common product lost market so that lost interest. This behavior is not
reasonable allocate resources and satisfy other companies interest. It is market failure.
Market failure have four conditions, includes:
The first case is merit goods. Merit goods means that goods take benefit. There are two characteristics.

Around half of all ocean pollution is caused by sewage and waste water. Each year, the world
generates perhaps 5 10 billion tons of industrial waste, much of which is pumped untreated into rivers,
oceans, and other waterways.

In the 19 century, although government adopted some measures about water pollution, government
didn t really attach importance to this problem so that water pollution is more and more serious. But
with the development of the times, the UK government constantly perfecting the policy system that

It may be causes economic fluctuation which the UK government makes policy about water pollution,

Post Civil War Foreign Policy Analysis
One of the U.S government s main functions is to conduct relations with almost 200 nations in the
world. It is designed to further certain goals and assure Americas security and defense. Our foreign
policy has changed over time reflecting the change in nation interest. (Constitutional Rights
Foundation) The U.S main interest was to maintain its independence from European countries. This
was carried out by the Monroe Doctrine, which limited European attempts to further colonize the
Western Hemisphere. Post civil war foreign policy was a departure from pre foreign policy because of
their actions and motivations. The acquisition of contiguous territory in pre civil war policy departed

They feel it is their duty to educate the deprived races, and as they travel to new nations Americans
carry with them their Christian beliefs. Josiah Strong was a big believer of divinely commissioned ,
that God wants Americans to spread the word of God. Although the second Manifest Destiny shares
all of these aspects with the first seeming like a broken continuation, the second Manifest Destiny is
also very much a departure from the original beliefs. Expansion became a huge competition between
the nations. The United States was expanding to foreign lands, but not simply to achieve a goal, now
the US wanted to compete with Europe and take natural resources from conquered territories. America
needed more resources because it was going through a period of overproduction, as evidenced by the
depression of 1893. This way the United States wouldn t merely gain more natural resources, but also
new markets, new capitol, and new labor. As Americans set out to lay claim to these new territories,
they left with the Social Darwinism belief that stronger ones will naturally dominate weaker nations.
Joshia Strong the author of Our Country: Its Possible Future and Its Present Crisis said, the
unoccupied arable lands of the earth are limited, and will soon be taken also, that the Anglo Saxon
white race highest race should rule, and govern the weaker races.

A Girl By Jamaica Kincaid And Judith Ortiz Cofer
In both of the Short stories i ve read by Jamaica Kincaid and Judith Ortiz Cofer the author uses a
young girl, both of those females were given a series of instructions on how they should live their life,
in my opinion both characters in the story were being stereotyped on how a girl should live. In the
story Girl by Kincaid she illustrates a Caribbean Mother giving advice to her young daughter, in the
story she describes to her the manner on how to act like a Female, how to do household work and
cook correctly. The mother actions intends to help her daughter, After reading the story by Jamaica
Kincaid I believe that that the mother feels her daughter needs to act more like a female and not the
slut she plans on becoming. The author uses a chastising tone which was illustrated throughout the
whole story when she scolds her daughter. In The myth of the Latin woman: I just met a girl named
Maria by Judith Ortiz Cofer, She primarily talks about stereotyping and how the American culture was
different from her home country Puerto Rico , the narrator also expresses how she lived as a girl
growing up. Jamaica Kincaid is an Antiguan American novelist, essayist, gardener, and gardening
writer. The mother in the story Girl gives helpful advice this advice will help her daughter be a better
woman in her present and future life. She explains to her daughter the ways she should keep a house
clean by doing chores such as washing clothes , sewing buttons and hemming dresses,

  • 3. The Race For K 12 Public Education Reform Teacher compensation is one of many hot button issues in the race for K 12 public education reform in America. Google (2015), defines compensation as simply the money received by an employee from an employer as a salary or wages (Google). This definition is perhaps the simplest to understand, but fails to truly articulate the complex meaning of compensation. Most school divisions include salary, extra pay, benefits, and pension in their employee compensation package. Leonard Boswell (2015), former U.S. Representative, stated it best, when he said The American Dream is one of success, home ownership, college education for one s children, and have a secure job to provide these and other goals (Brainy Quotes, n.d.). The American dream Boswell spoke of cannot be achieved through meager means, the question then is Do the very people who help facilitate this dream for the country s youth, deserve to achieve the dream as well? Most professions compensate for an employee s formal education as well as any other experiences relevant to the position. Kirby et al. (1993), found the factors reported to affect teacher salaries included cost of living, revenue generating potential, supply and demand for teachers, local industry wages and salaries, and salaries of neighboring districts (p. 111). The authors (1993) further explain no one model has been found to satisfactorily explain variations in teacher salaries within and across geographical regions and In education, ... They feel their story is not just for an industry audience, but for everyone; government officials, labor leaders, industry executives and general readers, in every country with an interest in how society goes about making things. The best way to describe lean production is to contrast it to its predecessors: craft production and mass production. Craft production uses highly skilled workers and simple but flexible tools to make exactly what the consumer asks for, one item at a time. The result is that consumers get exactly what they want but at a prohibitively high cost. Mass production uses narrowly skilled professionals to design products made by unskilled or semiskilled workers tending expensive, single purpose machines. The machines produce standardized products in very high volume. Due to the high cost of disruption of the process, the mass producer adds many buffers extra supplies, workers and space to assure smooth production. Also due to high cost of changing over to a new product, the mass producer keeps standard designs in production as long as possible. The result is the consumer gets lower costs but at the expense of variety, and workers tend to find their part of the process boring. Lean production, by contrast, uses teams of multiskilled workers at all levels of the organization, and uses highly flexible, increasingly automated machines to produce large volumes of products in enormous variety. Restorative Justice Case Study Introduction Over the course of both my undergraduate and master s programs in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Peacebuilding (NCRP), I have wanted to further study the concept of Restorative Justice. Though it has surfaced several times throughout my NCRP coursework, it has mostly been in the context of international conflict. Thus, I have often wondered how Restorative Justice might work in a more local context. That local context revealed itself in my current role as one of two fathers of a first grader in a school in Long Beach. Helena, our six year old daughter, attends a small private school with 160 students in grades K 8. The school community regards itself as being a large, caring, tight knit extended family, while the administration has been explicit in stating that the incidence of bullying on the campus is little to none. Our experience as a family in the nearly two years that we have been part of the community has been otherwise. Here are three bullying scenarios that we ve experienced or heard of occurring in our school community: In our first year, two male classmates called our daughter fat when she was in Kindergarten. Pursuant to changes in the SRVPP Guidelines, California s statutory rape enforcement policy grew to encompass all forms of non pregnancy inducing sex between adults and minors (including sexual behavior short of intercourse, acts between adult women and teen boys, and acts between same sex partners), as well as crimes involving multiple victims, pimping/prostitution, the provision of alcohol or drugs to minors, acquaintance rape, and rape of disabled minors. ... William Blake wrote poems about this very subject. In his twin poems, The Lamb and The Tyger , Blake uses different literary techniques such as sound, imagery and symbolism to echo the common theme of creation along with how it is viewed differently. William Blake s use of sound in his poems, The Lamb and The Tyger , enhance the central idea of creation and the question of how one God can create such different creatures. (Lines 9 10). Little Lamb, I ll tell thee: He is called by thy name (Lines 12 13). In the poem The Lamb , Blake paints a sweet, innocent image of a loving and kind God. This poem is full of child like wonder as the speaker questions and answers who the lamb s creator is. The nostalgic feel continues as he states, By the stream and o er the mead; Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest clothing, wooly, bright; Gave thee such a tender voice (Lines 4 7). These words and ideas leave the reader with a warm, comforted feeling. The image of untouched nature, green pastures and a soft, little, white, baby lamb is quite different to the imagery Blake uses in The Tyger . The overall feel of The Lamb is beautiful and tender as Blake describes the lamb in such ways that are gentle, delicate and alluring. In his poem, The Tyger , Blake creates a dark, scary picture of a powerful, ferocious creature that is not meek or mild like the lamb. Clarity is the story of two people in a very addicting relationship, that is completely hopeless, but continues to hold on to hope. Clarity, along with many other pieces performed in St. Theresa Catholic Secondary Schools dance recital, was an effective and eye catching piece that used distinct emotion throughout the entire song. If the dancers were to perform this piece again, I would advocate them to work towards restoring the timing of their number. My last point is about the dancers techniques, which especially relates to the timing of their piece. While observing the dance, I couldn t help but notice the amount free movement being used. I don t necessarily think that using free movement was the best idea for this piece, because the tempo of the song Clarity is very technical. In my opinion, if the dancers had increased their technique to perfect their piece, it may have looked professional and complete. Robert Burney (2015) explains that CCRCs all offer multiple levels of care, but not all contracts cap long term costs regardless of the level of care. Type A contract facilities are able to cap these costs, which make them more favorable. However, in order to accomplish this control of futuristic costs, institutions must require a significant entrance fee for residents. Essentially, residents buy in to their retirement community and are then contracted at a fixed rate for all futuristic expenses, regardless of the resident s life span and potential care needs. As one would expect, the initial buy in is very costly and could range from $50,000 to over $1,000,000 (Burney, 2015). Depending on the needs a resident may require in the future he or she may be arranging a deal of great value or one that will prove to be exceptionally expensive. Nevertheless, Type A contracts are made to reflect estimates of average healthcare costs seen in many elderly persons as they transition through multiple levels of care (Burney, 2015). Because of these analyzed costs, a facility s financial planner can easily establish residential rates to cover basic living needs, possible increased healthcare requirements, and the sustainment of the business. Many vigorous steps of financial planning should be done from all parties involved in any long term agreement in order to consider the time value of money in regards to futuristic costs and benefits. Intellectual Property ( Ip ) Essay Intellectual Property (IP) can be broadly described as using human intellect to create something new or original, and it is collectively comprised of four categories: Trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, and patents. Intellectual property is a valuable asset that must be protected and strategically managed. To fully foster innovation, intellectual property protection is crucial. If protection is lacking, than businesses and individual would not fully benefit from their inventions and could possibly refrain from research and development. Intellectual property drives economic growth and competitiveness. • 20. Of ThucydidesBiases And Their Consistencies In Greek History Biases and Their Consistencies in Greek History Humans have made notable accomplishes for many centuries. Only recently in human history have these events been recorded by other humans. As a species we naturally have bias, be that toward our culture or an ideology. Thucydides and Herodotus both had distinct source types as well as biases, but conform to them in different ways reflective of their different writing styles. First we will examine the sources that Thucydides used and why he uses speeches. Thucydides was the main source of the information as he lived and held command as a general during the Peloponnesian War up until his exile to Peloponnesian territory (Thucydides p. 102). His position as a general makes Thucydides an excellent eye witness to many of these instances. Thucydides spending time with the Peloponnesians gained him insight into those people and how they would have operated. Thucydides uses himself as his main source as he held a high position in society and would have access to the events of the war. Thucydides also used other s speeches as resources to show insight into the events occurring. He used the Melian dialogue to show the wit of the Athenians and illustrate their impulsive desire to conquer independent cities (Thucydides p. 102 108). This passage illustrates the beginning of the end for the Athenians. The Melians were a colony of the Lacedaemonians and did not take a side in the ongoing war, but Athens eventually probed them to war (Thucydides 102). This foreshadows the battle at Syracuse in which Athens went blindly into out of desire to simply slight the Spartans. Thucydides uses speeches to show insight to the people s thoughts and to add foreshadowing to future events. Herodotus used the account of people and their own traditions as his references in his works. During the beginnings of the war between the Persians and the Greeks Herodotus speaks of the Persian invasion of the Delians. During the Persians departure Herodotus uses the Delians as the reference for the events that unfolded next (Herodotus p. 108). Aside from the mentions of how the stories are sourced from the people Herodotus does not mention where else his sources came from. Herodotus relied heavily on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Connecting the public to the building should be more than just creating a fascinating and interesting facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able to connect to the people, by allowing them to not just walk inside or around but on top of the building creating a public space within. The reason why I chose this topic is that I wanted to make a connection to my studio project, and how I developed the idea for it. In addition, I wanted to compare it to the Oslo Opera House and how this assisted me in arriving at my final design. My studio project and the Oslo Opera House have a different scale however, however I think they share some similar concepts. The idea of togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the public, and most significantly its connection to the landscape. Firstly, the location of the buildings is disparate, the Oslo Opera House(picture 1) does not really have a connection to the landscape, since it is mostly part of the city surrounded by other buildings and where traffic is heavy. There might be some connection between the Oslo Opera House and the landscape of the river, which has influenced the design known as The Wave Wall . This amendment would define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. It has been introduced to the U.S. Congress in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008 but has failed to gain enough support to pass (Same Sex Marriage) Proposition 8 On June 16, 2008, California began allowing same sex couples to receive marriage licenses. But on November 4 of that year, Proposition 8 passed, again banning same sex marriage (Same Sex Marriage). California s Proposition 8, which sought to ban same sex marriage, is an attempt to suppress personal rights and force religious beliefs and codes of behavior on everyone, including non believers. Narrow minded interpretations of faith often have led to self righteousness and oppression of others, and they are again on the rise (Stone). One might argue that Proposition 8 discriminates against gays and lesbians in violation of the Equal Protection Clause. One might argue that Proposition 8 unconstitutionally limits the fundamental right to marry. One might argue that Proposition 8 violates the separation of church and state (Stone). Some families traveled a great many miles to try to win the American Dream. The Shimerdas came all the way from Bohemia and gambled everything they had to make it in America. Within recent years, the overarching argument within Christianity specifically, has become about the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The second point to contrast against the traditional Christian interpretation of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah is that the destruction happens because of the non consensual aspect of the narrative. The men of the city were pressuring Lot, as it says in verse 9, to give these men, or angels, who were under Lot s protection, up so that they could, essentially, commit gang rape upon them. In Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown s Bible Commentary, he comments regarding verses 6 8 that, But the offer made by Lot was so extreme as plainly shows that he had been thrown into a state of the most perturbed and agitated feeling, between fear of the popular violence and solicitude for the safety of the strangers that were under his roof (Jamieson). Lot was so fearful of the violence and rape that the men intended to bring upon them that he became desperate. He was not only fearful after the beginning of the men s pressing, but when the angels first arrived as well. The Impact Of Sports On Sports And Leisure Activities Section A Introduction Despite it being 2015, there are still many ongoing barriers which are preventing many people of all ages, races, genders and social backgrounds from participating in sports and leisure activities. Economically, some sports are just completely unviable to people from certain backgrounds. Sports such as Polo are completely exclusive to a certain class of people, due to the mass expenses required to get you started. Inner city families, some of whom may have a member of the household unemployed would never be able to foot the cost of the bills to play Polo. Along with the unfeasibility of the costs of certain sports, people are also being excluded from sport due to the social side of the spectrum. Many sports are perceived as having gender ties and many children are brought up to identify that a certain sport shouldn t be played by boys as it is a girls sport and vice versa. This leads to a massive social stigma that is developed during the formative years of schooling that influences children s decisions on what sports they decide to play. It can also be tied into many cases of Homophobia in schools, where many homophobic slurs may be attached to a girl who enjoys rugby, or a boy who enjoys gymnastics. Due to the low number of combination between the sexes in many sports as children, this leads to a deficiency of integration as adults, therefore making it more difficult to get involved in a sport as an adult, due to the sport being either male ... • 37. A Popular Model Designed By Bruce W. Tuckman So what are genres? When most people are asked this question they will reply with something like science fiction, horror, mystery, or romance. While these are not fundamentally wrong answers, those with such responses do not understand the full breadth of what genres truly are. According to the dictionary, a genre is a class or category of artistic endeavor having a particular form, content, technique, or the like (Genre). Still though this does not capture the full breadth of what a genre really is. To explain how genres form, dynamically change, and serve their purposes we must first take a step back and look at some other fundamental concepts. A popular model designed by Bruce W. Tuckman suggests that all groups experience five phases: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning (Gulati 439 440). At our cores, humans seek to be accepted and acknowledged by others. We seek to form social hierarchies to find meaning the areas we are passionate about. This part of human nature is nothing new, it is something programmed deep into our genes for millennia. It happens before our eyes every day; sports fans meet in stadiums, video game fans meet at conventions, artists meet at exhibitions, and so on. People of similar interest meet, one way or another, and are drawn together by their passion. The American Revolution lasted until 1783 and resulted in victory and independence for the colonies. The French Revolution began in 1789 and ended in 1799 with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte.
