Oral Fixation Paper
Final Research The working title of my integrating seminal is Oral Fixation . My seminar will be a
photography project for which I will be taking close up photographs of people s mouths so that the
teeth, mouth or tongue are recognisable but do not look like they belong to an individual. The person
being photographed should be not be identifiable, because their identity is irrelevant. This could be
dehumanising, since the people photographed are reduced to only their body parts. The reason that
their identity is irrelevant is because this photography project is ultimately about me and my
fascination for the mouth. I intend for this to be both an ironic celebration my own feelings of disgust
for my physical body and a catharsis of my mild ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It starts shortly after birth, when the infant experiences nourishment for the first time. While feeding,
the child learns that pleasure can be obtained from the very sensitive organ that is the mouth. The
child might suck on his thumb, which provides pleasure even if there is no milk, which is the first
form of auto erotic pleasure that humans experience. Children will also experience their first
frustrations in that stage, for example hunger and thirst, and their first aggressive impulses, such as
biting, yelling, and crying (Kahn 42). The main conflicts that arise in that stage are weaning, feeding,
and thumb sucking. Scheduled feeding, and ignoring the baby s cries to be fed outside of scheduled
times, teaches the baby that his needs are less important than others . Punishing a child for sucking his
thumb teaches him that pleasure is shameful and bad. Weaning to early or too late might lead to an
oral fixation (43). Severe oral fixations can lead to eating disorders and extreme passivity and
dependence, will mild oral fixations lead to eating when stressed or lonely, mild passivity and
dependence, and a craving for oral stimulation (Wood et al.

Solar Energy Is The Conversion Of Power From The Sun
Research Paper Solar Energy
Blakely J. Phillips
BGEN 440, Montana State University Billings
Introduction
Solar energy is the conversion of power from the sun to usable electricity (Alternative Energy, 2014).
The most common source of solar energy utilizes photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity
(Alternative Energy, 2014). Photovoltaics use a semi conductor to absorb the radiation from the sun,
creating and emitting electrons, which are then harnessed and used as electricity (Alternative Energy,
2014).
Pros of Solar Energy There are many advantages of using solar energy. It is renewable, abundant,
sustainable, environmentally friendly, and more. Solar energy is a renewable energy source, which
means that unlike non renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels, coal, and nuclear energy, we
cannot run out of solar energy (Maehlum, 2014). As long as the sun is alive, which according to
NASA is another 6.5 billion years, we will have access to solar energy (Maehlum, 2014). The true
potential of solar energy is astounding and overly abundant. The surface of Earth receives 120,000
terawatts of solar radiation, better known as sunlight, which is 20,000 times more energy than what is
needed to supply power to the entire world (Maehlum, 2014).
Solar energy is not only abundant and renewable it is also sustainable and environmentally friendly.
As a sustainable energy source, solar energy is able to meet the needs of the present without
compromising

Anorexia Essay
The Causes and Effects of Anorexia
When I think of anorexia, a few things come to mind. I think of really bad episodes of Beverly Hills
90210 and Baywatch in which females, ususally teenagers, starve themselves and take diet pills. The
eating problem is always resolved within the timespan of one 30 minute episode. From the research I
ve done thus far on anorexia, I now know that this is a very unrealistic representation of what is
actually a very serious disease.
The purpose of this study is twofold. First, I have done extensive research on the causes and effects of
anorexia. Secondly, I will produce a survey that asks basic questions about anorexia. I will give these

Another widespread misconception about the disease of anorexia is that it is a new disease. Actually,
doctors say that anorexia has its roots centuries ago. Through different time periods, people have
fasted for a number of reasons, they say. People fasted in Biblical times to pay reverence to God or
just to exercise self discipline. Anorexia has been around almost as long as man.(Deth and
Vandereycken, 1990)
Basically, anorexia is spread as easily as any other disease. The disease in itself is not contageous, of
course; it is spread through society and the media. For example, what is known as the quot;Barbie doll
syndrome quot; is the main cause of such a mental disease. People starve themselves so that their
bodies will match their fashion role models. One strong example of this is the quot;waif quot; look
that came into mainstream fashion a few years ago. The quot;in quot; style was to like like Kate Moss,
and girls would do what they had to do to accomplish this
look. Usually, this meant cutting a few meals out of the day.
Fashion, music, movies, television, and radio all contribute to the spread of anorexia.(Bruch, 1979)
The start of anorexia in a particular patient can be difficult to pinpoint. It tends to begin during
childhood, and it is usually sparked by some sort of change. These changes can be: going away to
camp, switching

Persuasive Essay On Privacy And Privacy
Privacy in the 21st century is constantly violated. Any life, or even your own life, could potentially be
in danger by sharing locations accidentally, which could change one s future. Such danger might be
due to location services, which anyone can be easily found. On Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram
applications, people can be tracked by using their whereabouts which are easily accessible. GPS
locations can be hacked, leading one to dangerous situations such as encountering physical harm.
Once again, due to advanced technologies in the 21st century, our society faces major challenges due
to public access putting privacy at risk. Global Positioning Systems, otherwise known as GPS, create a
worldwide problem for users of social media. People s lives and their privacy are certainly affected by
this searching, tracking, and misleading location tracking. Almost all of people that has a phone uses
social media. It is oblivious to social media users who use the latest apps cause the main issues that
can put internet users in danger. Thieves and criminals lurk the internet, waiting to fool someone and
steal from them, like personal information. They have learned how to hack technology to find out
where people live and what they are doing on a daily basis. Social media creators that create an app
with applications don t think of issues that is can threaten personal safety. When Snapchat first
launched its Snap Map feature, it was derided by parents and privacy advocates as a way

Critical Appreciation Of Henry James
Henry James, like Shakespeare, had the exceptional quality in divining and rendering the poetry of
female psyche. Only a few novelists who have shown better understanding of tender and dreamy
hearts of women than James were Jane Austen, George Eliot, Sir Walter Scott, George Meredith and
Thomas Hardy.
James was a keen observer and could distinguish between American and European women. He was
deeply affected by American women s spiritual charm and moral beauty. That is why George Eliot s
heroines Dorothea Brooke and Gwendolen Harleth, in particular, is the nearest approximation of
James s own heroines. Reviewing Middlemarch, James wrote about Dorothea: ` she exhales a sort of
aroma of spiritual sweetness. In deepest level, he was inspired by emotion and intuition rather than by
intelligence and intellect. Due to certain deep, psychological reasons the young American woman
evoked the strongest spiritual response in James till the end. As for his European heroines like
Christina Light, Eugenia and Madam de Vionnet they represent a different order and style of charm.
Their appeal is that of `achieved woman . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no doubt that James s own repressed sexuality, which breaks out in the later fiction is chiefly
responsible for his emotional shrinking and diffidence in the presence of roused sexuality. Isabel
Archer s case is often cited as a typical example of sexual fear and frigidity. Perhaps deep down in her
puritan psyche, there is still the idea of essential ugliness and bestiality of sex an idea which somehow
is not wholly dissipated, for all her cultural enlightenment. In fact her very refinement of spirit
compounds her errors and adds to such distortions in her vision. Her rejection of Caspar Goodwood,
in particular, appears to be a rejection of male sexuality roused to a desperate pitch. Somehow her
spirit quailed at the thought of her body s violation by so insistent a

Adeline Yen Mah s Chinese Cinderella
Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, is a very depressing story about a young girl, Adeline, who
lives in China. The story tells about Adeline s life of abuse, that includes whippings, verbal abuse,
withholding of food and parents who ignore her existence. Adeline is even abused by her siblings who
don t like her because she is bad luck. Adeline s birth led to the death of her mother and because of
this her whole family doesn t like her. Growing up in a loving family makes this story even more
depressing as one learns how cruel others in the world can be to one another. Then she is not fed by
her parents. Lastly, she gets whipped by her father. How sad. This story is very depressing because it
has a lot of violence, including, the hitting of little kids. One of Adeline Yen Mah s Quotes were,

Children In The Foster Care System
Many children are raised within the foster care system. Children within the foster care system and
vulnerable children are exposed to many different psychosocial hardships that include a wide range of
health problems. Both foster children and vulnerable children are at a higher risk for developing
psychosocial and developmental problems along with educational and behavioral stumbling blocks.
Most children within foster care systems are there due to family risk factors within the home that
include domestic violence, parental mental health disorders, parental substance abuse, and lack of
parental care. The health care pathways for children in foster care are extremely scarce. Children in
the foster care system and other vulnerable children that are in parental care showed many risk factors
associated with their development. Some of these factors were incomplete immunizations, speech
delays, and developmental delays. The methods used within this journal article was based on a study
of children between the ages of birth to eighteen years of age who attended a clinic because their
parents had a substance abuse problem, a mental illness or an intellectual disability. This method also
includes children who were referred by child protection services due to concerns. The study was done
within a 12 month period from December 2007 through December 2008. Both medical reports and
records were recovered from the clinic. This was done so that the necessary data could be recorded for

Mark Twain And Maxine Hong Kingston
In the mid 19th century, America was viewed as a hotspot for freedom and wealth. When the noise of
the gold rush flooded the world, immigrants started to see America more appetizing than ever. The
Chinese saw America as a place to have a fresh start and as a place of refuge because of it s
generosity, so they immigrated to the west in great numbers. There was a large Chinese population in
Virginia and all along the Pacific coast. Writers Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston both wrote in
great detail about the Chinese Immigrants. They went into detail about the immigrants and how they
came over and why. Although Twain and Kingston both wrote about the immigrants in a positive light,
Twain was sympathetic of the immigrants and Kingston focused more on their image and her
ancestors. Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston are both influential writers when it comes to the
history of the Chinese Immigrants. Bother of them showed a great amount of detail on their journey to
America. Mark Twain actually pities the friendless Mongol, there were many superficial stereotypes
of the Chinese immigrants (Ou 33). Twain ridicules the American s racist attitudes against the
Chinese. For example, in Roughing It, he wrote, In every little cooped up, dingy cavern of a hut, faint
with the odor of burning Josh lights and with nothing to see the gloom by save the sickly, guttering
tallow candle, were two or three yellow, long tailed vagabonds, coiled up on a sort of short truckle

Evil In The Bible Story Cain And Abel
All throughout The Bible story Cain Abel man is portrayed as malign and malevolent. The Bible
displays this effect through the murder of Abel, the actions of Abel to provoke his older brother. Lastly
Cain s reaction to his punishment and God s expectations for man after these events. In all aspects The
Bible story Cain Abel illustrates man as evil and vengeful. One of the most visible instances of this is
the cold blooded murder of Abel.
Cain s premeditated murder of Abel represents man s innate instinct to be cruel and evil and inability
to distinguish right from wrong. After being rejected God s favor and affection Cain invites Abel into
the fields. While in the field Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him (Genesis 4:8). Cain shows
his malevolent nature by killing his only brother out of petty jealousy. Cain is jealous of brother ...

on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very

off the impression of Abel being his favorite. Abel does not object to being God s favorite even though
it clearly upsets Cain. After Abel s death he makes another self centered decision disregarding the
consequences that may face Cain. Immediately after Cain murders his younger brother The Lord
confronts him for his actions. The Lord shouts Listen! Your brother s blood cries out to me from the

power to get revenge, by making God aware of Cain s actions and making sure he atones for his sins.

global definition of terrorism?
The challenges experienced at the international level with regard to arriving at a consensus about the
definition of terrorism are based on the fact that the term raises political and emotional tensions.
However, the international community through the United Nations has embraced various sectorial
conventions that describe and criminalize several types of terrorist activities. Moreover, the general

The Theory X And Theory Essay
As an important philosophy in the management, the management theory has a direct impact on the
organisation s development. At the same time, it was suggested that when superiors do not supervise
subordinates, subordinates will complain about everything and started to become lazy, they even
spoke ill of each other and caused trouble (Blaug, 1999). Based on the research, this essay argues that
a good manager should have the basic knowledge of human psychology, and even learn about the
needs of subordinates to help them work enthusiastically without strict management. This essay first
analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the theory X, which related to Blaug s statement.
Subsequently, it compares theory X and theory Y to give an overview of both. Finally, this essay states
which theory that managers should choose for the current regulatory environment.
Both Douglas McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y have their strengths and its weaknesses. One of the
advantages that this theory is quite understandable. On the other hand, it can help managers focus on
two different types of individuals: individual work and personal hate willing to work. Because of the
weaknesses and shortcomings, the theory can hardly be used right now. According to McGregor,
theory X assumes people dislike work, lack ambition, are irresponsible and prefer to be led, while
theory Y assumes people are willing to work and accept responsibility, and are self directed and
creative. Based on some research, theory

Role Of Servants In Volpone
The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In Jonson s city comedies
servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in order to fulfill
their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies servants are
portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters.
To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog,
antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. In other
words, it is a society that is governed only by greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his characters
are greedy for power, money, food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that ... Show more content on

Jonson s connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in Volpone recall animals,
insects or birds. For example Volpone means fox in Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In that sense,
Volpone draws from a tradition of Aesopian beast fables. Jonson wants to create an allegory of greed
and also emphasizes that social and religious principles yield to greed and avarice; human beings are
reduced to the level of beasts and lose their elevated status.
Therefore, Volpone is a magnifico, a noble man of the Venetian Republic, clever but totally selfish and
lustful whose only purpose in life is to accumulate gold. He is so materialistic that not only has he
replaced God with gold, but he also worships his gold as his God. He always tries to deceive and take
advantage of other people, usually naive characters. His servant Mosca (which is an Italian word used
to describe a kind of fly that is fed on dead meat) is a parasite. A parasite does not hunt, does not work
in order to survive. Similarly, Mosca is a human being who is lazy, who does not struggle in order to
acquire a livelihood. Mosca is also very clever and canny. He is absolutely necessary for Volpone,
because he is the one who can put his master s

Reflection Of Fight Club
Reflection One: Fight Club
Fight Club (1999) is a film directed by David Fincher based on the Chuck Palahniuk s 1996 novel of
the same name. Within popular culture Fight Club is regarded as a cult classic and, in my opinion, is
both a fantastic novel and film. However, this reflection will primarily analyse Fight Club (1999) the
film adaption rather than Fight Club (1996) the novel. Fight Club is subjected to several different
polarising genres throughout its complicated storyline including social commentary and romance.
Within the text, Fight Club comments on absent Father s and suggests that men are being raised by
women and are therefore losing the part of themselves that they find through the fight club. Arguably,
Fight Club is hardly ever referenced as a romance novel, yet the film s plot revolves around the
Narrator s love interest Marla Singer and the confusing love triangle that exists between them and the
Narrator s second identity Tyler. Fight Club, however, ignores most conventions of a romance text and
instead becomes a blur of genres that critiques capitalistic society and promotes an anti materialistic
lifestyle.
Fight Club s continuing relevance in contemporary popular culture is primarily attributed to the
relatable characteristics that the unnamed Narrator initially exhibits. Before becoming aware that the
Narrator and Tyler Durden are the same person, the majority of viewers relate more to the Narrator
and his admiration of Tyler as the man they aspire to

Plato s Declaration Of Beauty
Plato describes beauty in the Phaedo as being radiant among other objects , while the other virtues
remain murky in relation to it. Plato s declaration of beauty s radiance indicates that it is significant.
Beauty is observed most clearly by use of vision, which is the sharpest of our bodily senses . Plato
explains that beauty alone has this privilege, to be the most clearly visible and the most loved .
Because of the way in which beauty stands out among the other virtues, Plato confirms that beauty is
dominant over the other virtues. In the Symposium, Diatoma explains how beauty is the highest good
and is in harmony with the divine . Her definition indicates that there is a relationship between
material beauty and divine Beauty. Beauty is intended to lead to Love, which Diatoma defines as
wanting to possess beautiful things forever . Once a man possesses beautiful things, he achieves love
and is happy. A man comes to possess beautiful things through the process of reproduction. In
reproduction, lovers attempt to preserve their beauty by transmitting their beauty to offspring. The
lovers are successful if they give birth to beauty, whether in body or soul . Reproduction immortalizes
the parents beauty, since the offspring possess the parents beauty after they die. According to Diatoma
s definition of Love, the parents who reproduce beauty achieve Love.
In the life of a philosopher, beauty is essential. The goal of philosophy is to achieve a

Persuasive Essay On The Public Transportation System
What started out as a trip to Philadelphia ended up turning into a unique experience with public
transportation. There is more to public transportation than hopping on a bus or train and just getting to
your destination. There are unsaid rules that go along with riding in the public transportation system
and the point of my exploration remix is to share these rules with any other college students who do
not fully understand them. Without being aware of the unsaid rules, it is very easy to break them. I
want to prevent college students from making the mistake of embarking on the public transportation
system with no prior knowledge and prevent students from breaking any of the rules like I did. My
remix serves to provide quick information for those who want to use public transportation. College
students primarily will not take the time to seriously read through a handbook for public transportation
nor sit down to watch a video. However, a flyer with only a few sentences is readable and convenient.
All a flyer needs is a little bit of color and bold lettering and there it is! One of the rhetorical ideas I
used was humor. Humor is a great tool when used correctly because the listener will start to pay
attention when they laugh. I achieved this appeal to pathos by using cartoons on the flyer. It is easy to
glance over something and not read it but when something small makes one chuckle, they will retain
the information received. Using a tool such as humor allows the work to be memorable.
Technologically this was a tough assignment. At first, the original plan was to make a short video type
public service announcement. Unfortunately, I did not possess the knowledge to create one.
Regardless, making a flyer may be more effective for college students. I have incredibly awful
handwriting, so for me to draw any sort of flyer would be a waste of time. A more aesthetically
pleasing method would be to create a flyer online using microsoft word, multiple colors as well as a
small amount of photography. This is exactly what I did. There were many things I would have liked
to do with the flyer, but since I lacked technical knowledge, I could not achieve these ideas. I would
have liked to fade the photos behind the text so you

volcanic field. Whole rock samples were crushed with a Chipmunk jaw crusher to obtain gravel sized
particles. Samples were separated using sieves with a mesh spacing of 0.0037 inches and 0.0195

The Battle Of The Bulge
Battle of the Bulge Christopher Adams NCOA SLC 15 005 Battle of the Bulge Introduction The
Battle of the Bulge, a massive German counteroffensive which began in December 1944, ultimately
produced the largest casualty rate in any one battle throughout World War II. The Allied Forces alone
lost almost 80,000 at the Battle of the Bulge. This casualty rate could have been much higher if Hitler
would ve grasped the importance and value of supply and logistical support. As a result, more than
1,500 tanks within Hitler s most elite Panzer units simply ran out of gas only days after the Bulge
broke through the Allied western front lines. However, the purpose of this paper is not to examine

Setting the Stage (The Battle) Arguably the most infamous battle during World War II, the Battle of
the Bulge took place in the heavily wooded area of the Ardennes Forest region. The overall goal of
this massive German counteroffensive was to break through the Western Front which consisted of
both US and British forces. The primary objective behind Hitler s plan was too simply take back the
initiative the Germans lost on beach of Normandy France. A few months prior to the Battle of the
Bulge, Hitler had barely survived an assassination attempt. On 20 July 1944, one of Hitler s most
trusted officers placed a bomb in a brief case and which he left underneath the table during a meeting
(Gavin, J. (2003). The bomb unfortunately did not kill Hitler but it did represent the fact that, within
Hitler s inner circle, there were disenfranchised high ranking German officers who wanted Hitler dead.
45 days before the Battle of the Bulge, Hitler was almost assassinated by one of his most trusted
German Officers, an event which Allied Forces remained unaware of for a long time. Hitler s plan
focused on the use of his most elite Panzer units with more than 1,500 tanks, 2,000 artillery guns, and
an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 infantry soldiers (Gavin, J. (2003). The notion that Hitler even had
the ability to mount a counteroffensive that big was considered impossible by the higher command of
the Allied Forces. This, along with the attempted assassination,

The Rights Of The Gay Rights Movement Essay
The issues LGBT people have faced is nothing new in our society, nor is the idea of being an LGBT
individual. It is impossible to date back emotions of people, but general sexuality preference became a
focus around the 1600 s. The practice of governing sexuality reinforced systems of gender, race, and
class dominance (FIELDER, 2015). Sexuality not only became a part of regular conversation, but a
determining factor of your position in society. If an induvial had a sexual preference other than
heterosexual, they were terrorized. The rights of homosexuals were not respected until 1924 when the
first gay right organization was established, The Society for Human Rights founded by Henry Gerber.
This did not last long. The gay rights movement would not see another organization until the 1950 s
when the Mattachine Society was established by gay rights activist Harry Hay. Sexuality was most
questioned within middle class homes. The people to come out mainly consisted of white business
men. Though, civil rights of the gay community was being demanded, American women were still
being oppressed so they were not as represented in the gay community until the early 1980 s. The
acronym LGBT was not used until 1988 when activist started to truly include all sexual preferences.
In 2008 the film Milk , about a gay rights activist and politician named Harvey Milk, was produced.
Milk was long gone when the movie was released, but the film reached more people and helped

Taking a Closer Look at Interracial Realtionships Essay
It has long been said that only people of the same race should be allowed to date, marry, and
reproduce. Although everyone has their own opinion on the subject, there is honestly no right, or
wrong. In today s day and age the relationships held by people of different races are better accepted
than they were in earlier ages when people lived strictly by morals. Interracial relationships have
always been frowned upon for religious or moral reasons, but they should be treated with the same
respect as a relationship between the same races.
On a religious note, Genesis 3:20 says that Eve was the mother of all living. In other words, all
humans of all races descended from Adam and Eve, meaning that it shouldn t matter the race from

Raising a biracial child should be no different than raising an all white child. There are though some
different aspects of raising a biracial child such as cultural differences. An article written by Lori A.
Selke covers several issues that one might encounter while raising their biracial child. One issue
would be that your own child would have a different color skin leading some people to believe that
you adopted, rather than birthing the child yourself. Lori claims, Don t be surprised if you re assumed
to have adopted your child (Selke). Although biracial children are nothing new, they are still
somewhat of a taboo to society. Children from extremely different backgrounds may be confused as to
which one to follow and learn. The answer is simple, both. If a child had a white mother and a
Hispanic father it might be confusing as to what to teach the child, and in what language to teach it to
them in, Spanish or English? One thing is for certain, they are family, and that is the same in every
culture. Your child and family are outside the statistical norm. Don t cover that up (Selke). What Selke
is suggesting is that no matter the race of a child, they need to be loved just the same. Don t be
ashamed or your family just because it is a little different compared to others.
Interracial children have been born since the days in American when slavery took place. Many slave
owners would rape their slaves and conceive children with them. Some slave

Persepolis Essay
Adolescence is an age where children began to find themselves or, in some cases, lose themselves, an
idea clearly developed by Satrapi in her graphic novel Persepolis . Satrapi explores the challenges and
difficulties experienced by a sheltered and naive girl during the tumultuous and uncertain years of the
Iranian revolution and attempts to solve the oppression she witnesses by the Islamicist government.
This is important to the whole text as it identifies the religious conservatism and Islamisation of the

Given that western clothes and icons were outlawed in conservative Iran, Marjane s dressing up in
jeans, denim jacket, and Nike shoes is an attempt to express her modern outlooks, Satrapi conveys the
importance throughout the text reinforcing the conflict between Eastern values and Western values. In
this scene, Satrapi embraces both cultures. She wears modern with a Michael Jackson button and
Nike, and says of course, my headscarf . This displays Satrapi s multiple personal identities: following
middle eastern customs while sharing western values. A portrait image of Marjane is illustrated to
show that she is proud of who she is and her posture and body language of her standing tall like she
wants to show off her personality. But this doesn t last long when she meets two guardians of the
revolution that arrest women who are improperly arrested. When Marjane is caught, expressionism is
used when Marjane is bawling her eyes out. The eyes look ghost like representing the whole idea
swapping personalities so that she could fit the government s likings. Marjane is not being able to
fully express herself by wearing the clothes she wanted, doing her hair how she wanted, or listening to
the music she wanted. From a young age is prevented Marjane from finding her identity and making
her feel trapped. The revolution brought back Islamic ideals and customs, which were welcomed
initially but soon became overbearing and restrictive and eventually totalitarian.

The imbalancing between the Mayan population and the effective magnitude of their agriculture
suggest the situation of the Mayan people in the availability to their long term survival. The Mayans
showed increasement in their population expeditiously which resulted in higher demand for food for
the people to consume. Consequently, in order for the Mayans to manage the increasing population,
the Mayans turned to use their accessible land over to cultivation. (Drew 139) With this in mind, the
author, David Drew, asked an intrigued question of how much food the land could produced for the
Mayans? (138) By all means, the question David Drew issued, could not be possible to thoroughly

Given that, the Mayan regions displayed a different variety of soil fertility and localized weather
patterns that affected the circumstances for agriculture to many different portions of areas around the
southern regions of Mesoamerica. (139) In fact, farmers, who currently cultivate as the similar system
the Mayans practiced and lives in parts of ancient southern regions of Mesoamerica, announced that
soils in the area will naturally diminish over the years in productivity, fertility, and crop yields. (139)
With the attention of the growing Mayan population, the Mayan people were in need of retaining the

to cut down the time of fallow for their fields which eventually be in high risk strategy in resulting in a
cultivation catastrophe for temporary ends. (139) Altogether, the Mayan population and the
effectiveness of their agriculture may determine the situation for the Mayan people to their long term

Positive Feedback and Classroom Environment Essay
Positive Feedback and Classroom Environment Student work is typically met by teacher feedback on
a number of important items, including his or her achievement, progress, and skills. How that
feedback is structured and delivered is a matter for debate among educators. The method and type of
feedback teachers use in response to appropriate or inappropriate student behavior shapes the
classroom environment (Conroy, Sutherland, Snyder, Al Hendawi, Vo, 2009). A potential role for
administrators is to prescribe and model effective feedback for teacher use within the classroom. This

Effective praise has as much to do with systematic planning as it does with teacher willingness to
engage students in positive discourse. When teachers see a desired behavior exhibited in the
classroom, positive attention must be directed toward it, but the comments must be made with effort
and process in mind rather than overall achievement (Conroy et. al., 2009). Teachers must use praise
to influence students to continue displaying specific social or academic behaviors, but teachers should
initiate praise themselves rather than respond to students requests (Conroy et. al., 2009). In this way
teachers may develop intrinsic motivation in students to learn following recognition for mastery of
classroom tasks (Conroy et. al., 2009). The use of praise can differ, depending on the student, and the
results of praise use may differ in consideration of how praise is used. Many teachers have found that
when praise is used often instructional time increases dramatically along with student feelings of
worthiness and competency (Stormont Reinke, 2009). On the other hand, some believe that
introspection spurred by praise may lead to student attention on personal development rather than in
the context of the task giving way to decreased motivation (Lipnevich Smith, 2009). It is for this
reason credence must be given

Skepticism On The Search For The Truth Of Our Knowledge
Skepticism in the Search for the Truth of Our Knowledge
How many times have you said, No way, I do not believe it! It is our natural tendency not to believe in
something that we have not seen with our own eyes or experienced it personally. There is a saying,
seeing is believing which has led us to a world full of skeptics. We want proof so we are not gullible
fools. Skepticism, or scepticism, as it was spelled back in the ancient times, was pondered by
philosophers who tried unsuccessfully to figure out the thought process and how we gain knowledge.
Philosophers gave deep thought to determine how we arrive at such true beliefs and knowledge of the
external world. Three such philosophers were Rene Descartes, David Hume and Christopher Grau.
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher in the early 1600 s; David Hume was a Scottish Philosopher
in the 1700 s, and Grau an American philosopher Professor born in 1970. The timeline s important
because philosophical views have evolved over time. All three men were from different eras, but they
each explored, argued, and addressed the topic of skepticism from their philosophical view. This
proves that they take the subject of skepticism seriously, just as we should too. There is good reason to
believe that a human s knowledge of the external world results from both a posteriori knowledge
acquired through sensory experience and a priori knowledge which is innate. Descartes, Hume, and
Grau through their personal views and skeptical

fluctuates a bit and you can tell that something important is about to be uncovered that will be an
important distinguishing factor for the rest of the film. This opening shot also provides insight to the
audience about the rest of the film. Another technique that is used that brought this film to its full
potential was the editing. Kurosawa used his editing skills to tell the story. Every cut that was made
took effect. When looking at the battle scene, the majority of the shots were action packed and were
quick cuts for the progression of the battle. These edits were made to intrigue the audience and to help

  • 2. Oral Fixation Paper Final Research The working title of my integrating seminal is Oral Fixation . My seminar will be a photography project for which I will be taking close up photographs of people s mouths so that the teeth, mouth or tongue are recognisable but do not look like they belong to an individual. The person being photographed should be not be identifiable, because their identity is irrelevant. This could be dehumanising, since the people photographed are reduced to only their body parts. The reason that their identity is irrelevant is because this photography project is ultimately about me and my fascination for the mouth. I intend for this to be both an ironic celebration my own feelings of disgust for my physical body and a catharsis of my mild ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It starts shortly after birth, when the infant experiences nourishment for the first time. While feeding, the child learns that pleasure can be obtained from the very sensitive organ that is the mouth. The child might suck on his thumb, which provides pleasure even if there is no milk, which is the first form of auto erotic pleasure that humans experience. Children will also experience their first frustrations in that stage, for example hunger and thirst, and their first aggressive impulses, such as biting, yelling, and crying (Kahn 42). The main conflicts that arise in that stage are weaning, feeding, and thumb sucking. Scheduled feeding, and ignoring the baby s cries to be fed outside of scheduled times, teaches the baby that his needs are less important than others . Punishing a child for sucking his thumb teaches him that pleasure is shameful and bad. Weaning to early or too late might lead to an oral fixation (43). Severe oral fixations can lead to eating disorders and extreme passivity and dependence, will mild oral fixations lead to eating when stressed or lonely, mild passivity and dependence, and a craving for oral stimulation (Wood et al. ... • 3. Solar Energy Is The Conversion Of Power From The Sun Research Paper Solar Energy Blakely J. Phillips BGEN 440, Montana State University Billings Introduction Solar energy is the conversion of power from the sun to usable electricity (Alternative Energy, 2014). The most common source of solar energy utilizes photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity (Alternative Energy, 2014). Photovoltaics use a semi conductor to absorb the radiation from the sun, creating and emitting electrons, which are then harnessed and used as electricity (Alternative Energy, 2014). Pros of Solar Energy There are many advantages of using solar energy. It is renewable, abundant, sustainable, environmentally friendly, and more. Solar energy is a renewable energy source, which means that unlike non renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels, coal, and nuclear energy, we cannot run out of solar energy (Maehlum, 2014). As long as the sun is alive, which according to NASA is another 6.5 billion years, we will have access to solar energy (Maehlum, 2014). The true potential of solar energy is astounding and overly abundant. The surface of Earth receives 120,000 terawatts of solar radiation, better known as sunlight, which is 20,000 times more energy than what is needed to supply power to the entire world (Maehlum, 2014). Solar energy is not only abundant and renewable it is also sustainable and environmentally friendly. As a sustainable energy source, solar energy is able to meet the needs of the present without compromising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Anorexia Essay The Causes and Effects of Anorexia When I think of anorexia, a few things come to mind. I think of really bad episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 and Baywatch in which females, ususally teenagers, starve themselves and take diet pills. The eating problem is always resolved within the timespan of one 30 minute episode. From the research I ve done thus far on anorexia, I now know that this is a very unrealistic representation of what is actually a very serious disease. The purpose of this study is twofold. First, I have done extensive research on the causes and effects of anorexia. Secondly, I will produce a survey that asks basic questions about anorexia. I will give these to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another widespread misconception about the disease of anorexia is that it is a new disease. Actually, doctors say that anorexia has its roots centuries ago. Through different time periods, people have fasted for a number of reasons, they say. People fasted in Biblical times to pay reverence to God or just to exercise self discipline. Anorexia has been around almost as long as man.(Deth and Vandereycken, 1990) Basically, anorexia is spread as easily as any other disease. The disease in itself is not contageous, of course; it is spread through society and the media. For example, what is known as the quot;Barbie doll syndrome quot; is the main cause of such a mental disease. People starve themselves so that their bodies will match their fashion role models. One strong example of this is the quot;waif quot; look that came into mainstream fashion a few years ago. The quot;in quot; style was to like like Kate Moss, and girls would do what they had to do to accomplish this look. Usually, this meant cutting a few meals out of the day. Fashion, music, movies, television, and radio all contribute to the spread of anorexia.(Bruch, 1979) The start of anorexia in a particular patient can be difficult to pinpoint. It tends to begin during childhood, and it is usually sparked by some sort of change. These changes can be: going away to camp, switching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Privacy And Privacy Privacy in the 21st century is constantly violated. Any life, or even your own life, could potentially be in danger by sharing locations accidentally, which could change one s future. Such danger might be due to location services, which anyone can be easily found. On Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram applications, people can be tracked by using their whereabouts which are easily accessible. GPS locations can be hacked, leading one to dangerous situations such as encountering physical harm. Once again, due to advanced technologies in the 21st century, our society faces major challenges due to public access putting privacy at risk. Global Positioning Systems, otherwise known as GPS, create a worldwide problem for users of social media. People s lives and their privacy are certainly affected by this searching, tracking, and misleading location tracking. Almost all of people that has a phone uses social media. It is oblivious to social media users who use the latest apps cause the main issues that can put internet users in danger. Thieves and criminals lurk the internet, waiting to fool someone and steal from them, like personal information. They have learned how to hack technology to find out where people live and what they are doing on a daily basis. • 6. Critical Appreciation Of Henry James Henry James, like Shakespeare, had the exceptional quality in divining and rendering the poetry of female psyche. Only a few novelists who have shown better understanding of tender and dreamy hearts of women than James were Jane Austen, George Eliot, Sir Walter Scott, George Meredith and Thomas Hardy. James was a keen observer and could distinguish between American and European women. He was deeply affected by American women s spiritual charm and moral beauty. That is why George Eliot s heroines Dorothea Brooke and Gwendolen Harleth, in particular, is the nearest approximation of James s own heroines. Reviewing Middlemarch, James wrote about Dorothea: ` she exhales a sort of aroma of spiritual sweetness. In deepest level, he was inspired by emotion and intuition rather than by intelligence and intellect. Due to certain deep, psychological reasons the young American woman evoked the strongest spiritual response in James till the end. As for his European heroines like Christina Light, Eugenia and Madam de Vionnet they represent a different order and style of charm. Their appeal is that of `achieved woman . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no doubt that James s own repressed sexuality, which breaks out in the later fiction is chiefly responsible for his emotional shrinking and diffidence in the presence of roused sexuality. Isabel Archer s case is often cited as a typical example of sexual fear and frigidity. Perhaps deep down in her puritan psyche, there is still the idea of essential ugliness and bestiality of sex an idea which somehow is not wholly dissipated, for all her cultural enlightenment. In fact her very refinement of spirit compounds her errors and adds to such distortions in her vision. Her rejection of Caspar Goodwood, in particular, appears to be a rejection of male sexuality roused to a desperate pitch. Somehow her spirit quailed at the thought of her body s violation by so insistent a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story tells about Adeline s life of abuse, that includes whippings, verbal abuse, withholding of food and parents who ignore her existence. Adeline is even abused by her siblings who don t like her because she is bad luck. Adeline s birth led to the death of her mother and because of this her whole family doesn t like her. Growing up in a loving family makes this story even more depressing as one learns how cruel others in the world can be to one another. Then she is not fed by her parents. Lastly, she gets whipped by her father. How sad. This story is very depressing because it has a lot of violence, including, the hitting of little kids. One of Adeline Yen Mah s Quotes were, Never get involved. That s my motto. I hurt no one. And no one can hurt me. Depression is like a mudslide, you never know when it will go away. ... Children within the foster care system and vulnerable children are exposed to many different psychosocial hardships that include a wide range of health problems. Both foster children and vulnerable children are at a higher risk for developing psychosocial and developmental problems along with educational and behavioral stumbling blocks. Most children within foster care systems are there due to family risk factors within the home that include domestic violence, parental mental health disorders, parental substance abuse, and lack of parental care. The health care pathways for children in foster care are extremely scarce. Children in the foster care system and other vulnerable children that are in parental care showed many risk factors associated with their development. Some of these factors were incomplete immunizations, speech delays, and developmental delays. The methods used within this journal article was based on a study of children between the ages of birth to eighteen years of age who attended a clinic because their parents had a substance abuse problem, a mental illness or an intellectual disability. When the noise of the gold rush flooded the world, immigrants started to see America more appetizing than ever. The Chinese saw America as a place to have a fresh start and as a place of refuge because of it s generosity, so they immigrated to the west in great numbers. There was a large Chinese population in Virginia and all along the Pacific coast. Writers Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston both wrote in great detail about the Chinese Immigrants. They went into detail about the immigrants and how they came over and why. Although Twain and Kingston both wrote about the immigrants in a positive light, Twain was sympathetic of the immigrants and Kingston focused more on their image and her ancestors. Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston are both influential writers when it comes to the history of the Chinese Immigrants. Bother of them showed a great amount of detail on their journey to America. Mark Twain actually pities the friendless Mongol, there were many superficial stereotypes of the Chinese immigrants (Ou 33). Twain ridicules the American s racist attitudes against the Chinese. For example, in Roughing It, he wrote, In every little cooped up, dingy cavern of a hut, faint with the odor of burning Josh lights and with nothing to see the gloom by save the sickly, guttering tallow candle, were two or three yellow, long tailed vagabonds, coiled up on a sort of short truckle bed, smoking ... At the same time, it was suggested that when superiors do not supervise subordinates, subordinates will complain about everything and started to become lazy, they even spoke ill of each other and caused trouble (Blaug, 1999). Based on the research, this essay argues that a good manager should have the basic knowledge of human psychology, and even learn about the needs of subordinates to help them work enthusiastically without strict management. This essay first analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the theory X, which related to Blaug s statement. Subsequently, it compares theory X and theory Y to give an overview of both. Finally, this essay states which theory that managers should choose for the current regulatory environment. Both Douglas McGregor s Theory X and Theory Y have their strengths and its weaknesses. One of the advantages that this theory is quite understandable. On the other hand, it can help managers focus on two different types of individuals: individual work and personal hate willing to work. Because of the weaknesses and shortcomings, the theory can hardly be used right now. In Jonson s city comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters. To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog, antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. For example Volpone means fox in Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In that sense, Volpone draws from a tradition of Aesopian beast fables. Jonson wants to create an allegory of greed and also emphasizes that social and religious principles yield to greed and avarice; human beings are reduced to the level of beasts and lose their elevated status. Therefore, Volpone is a magnifico, a noble man of the Venetian Republic, clever but totally selfish and lustful whose only purpose in life is to accumulate gold. He is so materialistic that not only has he replaced God with gold, but he also worships his gold as his God. He always tries to deceive and take advantage of other people, usually naive characters. Within popular culture Fight Club is regarded as a cult classic and, in my opinion, is both a fantastic novel and film. However, this reflection will primarily analyse Fight Club (1999) the film adaption rather than Fight Club (1996) the novel. Fight Club is subjected to several different polarising genres throughout its complicated storyline including social commentary and romance. Within the text, Fight Club comments on absent Father s and suggests that men are being raised by women and are therefore losing the part of themselves that they find through the fight club. Arguably, Fight Club is hardly ever referenced as a romance novel, yet the film s plot revolves around the Narrator s love interest Marla Singer and the confusing love triangle that exists between them and the Narrator s second identity Tyler. Fight Club, however, ignores most conventions of a romance text and instead becomes a blur of genres that critiques capitalistic society and promotes an anti materialistic lifestyle. Fight Club s continuing relevance in contemporary popular culture is primarily attributed to the relatable characteristics that the unnamed Narrator initially exhibits. Before becoming aware that the Narrator and Tyler Durden are the same person, the majority of viewers relate more to the Narrator and his admiration of Tyler as the man they aspire to ... • 20. Plato s Declaration Of Beauty Plato describes beauty in the Phaedo as being radiant among other objects , while the other virtues remain murky in relation to it. Plato s declaration of beauty s radiance indicates that it is significant. Beauty is observed most clearly by use of vision, which is the sharpest of our bodily senses . Plato explains that beauty alone has this privilege, to be the most clearly visible and the most loved . Because of the way in which beauty stands out among the other virtues, Plato confirms that beauty is dominant over the other virtues. In the Symposium, Diatoma explains how beauty is the highest good and is in harmony with the divine . Her definition indicates that there is a relationship between material beauty and divine Beauty. Beauty is intended to lead to Love, which Diatoma defines as wanting to possess beautiful things forever . Once a man possesses beautiful things, he achieves love and is happy. A man comes to possess beautiful things through the process of reproduction. In reproduction, lovers attempt to preserve their beauty by transmitting their beauty to offspring. The lovers are successful if they give birth to beauty, whether in body or soul . Reproduction immortalizes the parents beauty, since the offspring possess the parents beauty after they die. There is more to public transportation than hopping on a bus or train and just getting to your destination. There are unsaid rules that go along with riding in the public transportation system and the point of my exploration remix is to share these rules with any other college students who do not fully understand them. Without being aware of the unsaid rules, it is very easy to break them. I want to prevent college students from making the mistake of embarking on the public transportation system with no prior knowledge and prevent students from breaking any of the rules like I did. My remix serves to provide quick information for those who want to use public transportation. College students primarily will not take the time to seriously read through a handbook for public transportation nor sit down to watch a video. However, a flyer with only a few sentences is readable and convenient. All a flyer needs is a little bit of color and bold lettering and there it is! One of the rhetorical ideas I used was humor. Humor is a great tool when used correctly because the listener will start to pay attention when they laugh. I achieved this appeal to pathos by using cartoons on the flyer. It is easy to glance over something and not read it but when something small makes one chuckle, they will retain the information received. Using a tool such as humor allows the work to be memorable. Technologically this was a tough assignment. At first, the original plan was to make a short video type public service announcement. Unfortunately, I did not possess the knowledge to create one. Regardless, making a flyer may be more effective for college students. I have incredibly awful handwriting, so for me to draw any sort of flyer would be a waste of time. A more aesthetically pleasing method would be to create a flyer online using microsoft word, multiple colors as well as a small amount of photography. This is exactly what I did. There were many things I would have liked to do with the flyer, but since I lacked technical knowledge, I could not achieve these ideas. The overall goal of this massive German counteroffensive was to break through the Western Front which consisted of both US and British forces. The primary objective behind Hitler s plan was too simply take back the initiative the Germans lost on beach of Normandy France. A few months prior to the Battle of the Bulge, Hitler had barely survived an assassination attempt. On 20 July 1944, one of Hitler s most trusted officers placed a bomb in a brief case and which he left underneath the table during a meeting (Gavin, J. (2003). The bomb unfortunately did not kill Hitler but it did represent the fact that, within Hitler s inner circle, there were disenfranchised high ranking German officers who wanted Hitler dead. 45 days before the Battle of the Bulge, Hitler was almost assassinated by one of his most trusted German Officers, an event which Allied Forces remained unaware of for a long time. Hitler s plan focused on the use of his most elite Panzer units with more than 1,500 tanks, 2,000 artillery guns, and an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 infantry soldiers (Gavin, J. (2003). • 32. Positive Feedback and Classroom Environment Essay Positive Feedback and Classroom Environment Student work is typically met by teacher feedback on a number of important items, including his or her achievement, progress, and skills. How that feedback is structured and delivered is a matter for debate among educators. The method and type of feedback teachers use in response to appropriate or inappropriate student behavior shapes the classroom environment (Conroy, Sutherland, Snyder, Al Hendawi, Vo, 2009). A potential role for administrators is to prescribe and model effective feedback for teacher use within the classroom. When teachers see a desired behavior exhibited in the classroom, positive attention must be directed toward it, but the comments must be made with effort and process in mind rather than overall achievement (Conroy et. al., 2009). Teachers must use praise to influence students to continue displaying specific social or academic behaviors, but teachers should initiate praise themselves rather than respond to students requests (Conroy et. al., 2009). In this way teachers may develop intrinsic motivation in students to learn following recognition for mastery of classroom tasks (Conroy et. al., 2009). The use of praise can differ, depending on the student, and the results of praise use may differ in consideration of how praise is used. Many teachers have found that when praise is used often instructional time increases dramatically along with student feelings of worthiness and competency (Stormont Reinke, 2009). On the other hand, some believe that introspection spurred by praise may lead to student attention on personal development rather than in the context of the task giving way to decreased motivation (Lipnevich Smith, 2009). • 33. Skepticism On The Search For The Truth Of Our Knowledge Skepticism in the Search for the Truth of Our Knowledge How many times have you said, No way, I do not believe it! It is our natural tendency not to believe in something that we have not seen with our own eyes or experienced it personally. There is a saying, seeing is believing which has led us to a world full of skeptics. We want proof so we are not gullible fools. Skepticism, or scepticism, as it was spelled back in the ancient times, was pondered by philosophers who tried unsuccessfully to figure out the thought process and how we gain knowledge. Philosophers gave deep thought to determine how we arrive at such true beliefs and knowledge of the external world. Three such philosophers were Rene Descartes, David Hume and Christopher Grau. Rene Descartes was a French philosopher in the early 1600 s; David Hume was a Scottish Philosopher in the 1700 s, and Grau an American philosopher Professor born in 1970. The timeline s important because philosophical views have evolved over time. All three men were from different eras, but they each explored, argued, and addressed the topic of skepticism from their philosophical view. This proves that they take the subject of skepticism seriously, just as we should too. There is good reason to believe that a human s knowledge of the external world results from both a posteriori knowledge acquired through sensory experience and a priori knowledge which is innate.
