3. RESEARCH
A strength about my research is that I was able to look into already existing products
that will help me to create a good product(s). I was also able to conduct a survey in
which I asked questions that were related to my product, such as; “What topic do you
enjoy taking photos of?”. From asking these kinds of questions , I was able to get a
good idea as to my audiences likes and dislikes. The answers I got from my survey were
quite spread out, as some preferred one thing whilst some preferred another. By looking
into already existing products I was able to see what kind of products I could make as
well as how to create one. I also conducted two interviews as well as an evaluation for
both of them. For the two interviews, I asked questions that were similar to the
questions asked on my survey. When looking at the two, I was able to tell what they
both liked and disliked. I also asked if they would be interested in buying something like
similar to my product (or a product like this in general). By doing these interviews, I was
able to see what my audience preferred and what they didn’t. this helped me to
understand what kind of aspects I will put into my product. (such as what effects would
appeal best to my audience as well as the kinds of colours schemes to use) My research
helped me to find out the sorts of things I should include in my product e.g. the use of
colours, themes and layouts. After bringing together all of my research from my survey
and interviews, I was able to see how I could make my product appeal to my audience. I
also had to consider the age demographic as well as what gender should appeal to my
audience. I decided that my age range would be 16-25. I chose this particular age range
because many people from that category take photos and/or like to look at them. They
are also fond of taking photos and then posting them on various social media platforms
such as ‘Instagram’ and ‘Snapchat’. I decided that my primary audience is both male
and female because I think that my product will appeal to both male and female. But I
also think that certain images will appeal to different people, such as a landscape photo,
for example. It could appear more to my male audience rather than my female audience.
I also made sure that I wouldn’t offend anyone with my product. I did this by making
sure I didn’t include any offensive language or material. If I were to make a similar kind
of product in the future, I would research different products that weren’t similar. I would
do this because it would help me to make a range of products that weren’t so similar
4. RESEARCH
A weakness of my research is that I used three products that were all quite similar. I
think it would have been better if I found three kinds of products that had the same
the sort of aspect as to what I wanted to make for my own product but all different.
Next time, I would find products that are all different but are all centred around they
same theme. I think this would have helped me to create a range of products that
weren’t so similar. I would also want to do this because it would make my overall
products look less repetitive. I would want this because I ended up finding multiple
products that were very similar and then creating my own products which were quite
similar. If I could improve my research in anyway, I would want to re-do my
interviews and ask different questions. In my interviews, I asked questions such as;
“Do you take photos on a camera or on your phone?” and “What do you prefer to
take photos of? (e.g. wildlife, landscapes.)”. I would change these questions (and/or
phrase them different) in order to get more detail from my intended audience. I
would have instead asked questions such as; “Would you rather taken photos on a
camera or a phone? And why?”. I would do this because it will make m audience go
into specific detail about their personal preferences and also speak about what they
would like to see in my product. Another weakness is the questions I asked on my
survey. Much like my interviews, I think I could have asked questions that would
make the audience go into detail about their preferences. I think that by doing this,
it would have helped and improved my product greatly. A strength of my products
(the poster(s) and Portfolio) is that I was able to use all of the research I had
gathered from existing products as well as my survey and interviews, I was able
include all of the information I had gathered and use it in my product.
5. PLANNINGA strength of my planning is that I’m able to map out my different ideas quite easily.
With my planning I can easily create a range of ideas and map out what I think would be
best and how I could create it. When doing my planning, I came up with three separate
ideas which were all centred around one theme, the theme being photography. By
spreading out my different ideas into a mind map, I was able to see what kind of
products I could make as well as how to create one. Along with my planning, I made an
image board that would help me see what other kinds there are. My planning helped me
to find out the sorts of things I should include in my product e.g. the use of colours,
themes and layouts. As well as what kinds of products I could make that were linked to
my chosen theme. When thinking about the kind of product I want to make, I made sure
that I also thought my intended audience and think about the kind of product they
would want to see. I could improve my planning I would have gone into more detail
about the types of products I was going to research and why I chose them specifically. I
would also go into more detail about how my audience would react if they were to see
my product and if they would buy it. A weakness to my planning is that there is a limit
to as to how many ideas I think. Meaning, I can come up with multiple ideas but I will
only be able to choose a few to carry out with. If I had chosen different products that
were centered around separate themes then I think this would have improved my
product. This is because if I were to just make multiple products that were all different
then my audience would have found it to be more appealing. During pre-production, I
went through various fonts I had downloaded from a website known as ‘Font Meme’
and/or default fonts from Microsoft (e.g. PowerPoint) and decided on the kind(s) of
fonts I wanted to use for my final product. This helped me to see what kind of fonts I
could use in my product, as well as how/if those fonts would appeal to my audience. A
strength of finding fonts online (and/or default fonts on software) is that there are a
variety of fonts to choose from, meaning that you don’t just have to stick to one or two
fonts. A weakness of doing this would be that it could take time out of my process, as in
deciding on a particular I also created mockup ideas for my product, seeing what would
work best e.g. what colours would work well with the photos I had taken, as well as any
additional fonts I decided to use. With my pre-production, had more detail in certain
6. TIME MANAGEMENT
I think that I could have managed my time better. For instance I found myself doing two
things at once, such as creating one product whilst writing about another. I think I could
have avoided this by making a sort of timetable, spreading out my process of creating
my various products as well as the additional PowerPoints. If I had done this at the
beginning then I think I would have been able to complete all of my work without
rushing and missing out important details. I handed in all of my products on time but I
think that I had rushed a few things so my work isn’t the best it could be. If I had
additional time I would go back and make sure that my work was a good as I could get it
to be, making sure to check over and see that I hadn’t made any mistakes (e.g. spelling
mistakes). Overall I think that most of my time was spent making the edits for my
Portfolio, editing them, presenting them and then finally doing an analysis of each photo
and it’s edit(s). Having additional time would mean that I would be able to create more
slides on my Portfolio. I would have edited more photos I had taken and then presented
them in my Portfolio. When talking about time management and how I used it to develop
my product as well as my research and/or experiments, I managed to create an amount
of different (good quality) products. I had a few products with creating my final product
(making the edits of my photos using Photoshop software). The problem being that the
software was quite slow, meaning it took a while for all of my edits to be completed and
then was late to finish my Portfolio because of this. The software also crashed a number
of times, meaning I had to re-do certain parts that didn’t save. When looking at the
schedule I made (in Research) I think that I followed it thoroughly. This is because I knew
what order to do things and what sort of software I was going to use in order to create.
But I didn’t think about how my schedule would change if any software that I used were
to crash without me saving it, meaning I’d have to re-do that bit of work. My
experiments helped me to create a range of posters for my Portfolio. The experiments
gave me a good idea as to how I wanted my final product to look (in terms of colours
7. TECHNICAL
QUALITIESI created this product through Photoshop. By
researching already existing products, I was
able to take inspiration from an already
existing product and use it create my own. I
used the ‘rectangle’ tool in order to create
the yellow and white slit. I also used the
same tool to create the black rectangle to the
left. The font used for my title were
downloaded from a website called ‘Font
Meme’. I also used the same font to create
any additional text. A similarity between the
two is that they both have a similar colour
scheme (yellow and white). The text is also
very similar with the same sort of sizing as
well as colour and style. A difference is the
choice in images(style) used for the cover
e.g. the yellow and white pattern of the
existing product and the yellow and white
slit on my own product. I think what makes
these two products so similar is the same
sort of colour scheme used. This is also the
same for the font style used, which are both
simplistic. The main difference I can see
between the two is that the already existing
products orientation is landscape whilst mine

8. TECHNICAL QUALITIES
I created this product through Photoshop.
By researching already existing products, I
was able to take inspiration from an already
existing product and use it create my own. I
used the ‘rectangle’ tool in order to create
the blue rectangle in the centre of the
poster. I also used the same tool to create
the two small white rectangles at either side
of the poster, the same as the existing
poster. The font used for my title were
downloaded from a website called ‘Font
Meme’. I also used the same font to create
any additional text. Both products are
similar in terms of layout (such as the
position of the text as well as the same sort
of colour scheme used). One similarity
between the two posters is that they both
have sort of layout. The choice of colours
used is also similar. The text is also sort of
similar, however the text on the existing
product is bolder than mine. The alignment
of the text on both products is also similar.
A different between the two products would
be the colour. Although the colours are

Photoshop. By researching already
existing products, I was able to take
inspiration from an already existing
product and use it create my own. Since
my product had different themes to the
already existing product, I chose a
different image I had taken. . I used the
‘rectangle’ tool in order to create the
yellow slit in my image I used in the
centre of the poster. The font used for
my title were downloaded from a
website called ‘Font Meme’. I also used
the same font to create any additional
text. A similarity between the two
products is the choice of colour scheme
e.g. the yellow background and he
black font(s)). Another similarity is that
effects used e.g. the slit dividing my
image into two and the same sort of
rectangle used to hide the face in the
image on the existing product. A
different between the two is the
different shades of colour used e.g. the
colour yellow is a lot brighter on the
10. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I think that my work looks creative and unique. The
aspects of my product(s) that I like is the effect I’ve
used, which is an effect called ‘cutout’. I think this
gives the images a sort of artistic feel, which is good
because it also fits well with my chosen theme.
Although, if I could improve these three images I
would try and use different effects rather than just
sticking to one. That way you would be able to have
various products that all differ, rather than just
having a bunch of similar products. I would also want
to try and experiment with different colours, to see
what would work well and what wouldn’t. I think the
effects I used from Photoshop aren’t too detailed
(meaning that you can still see parts of the original
image). I also think that the audience would find
these products because to be pleasing because of
this. I think that the mix between bright/vibrant
colours as well as greyscale makes certain parts of
the image stand out more. This is appealing to m
audience because of the contrast between the black
11. AESTHETIC
QUALITIES
A similarity between the two images is the
same sort of colour scheme (the colour
scheme being black and white). I think these
two products have a similar target audience,
the target audience being teenagers/young
adults (16-25). I think this because both
images are quite minimalistic but both have a
lot of detail to them, such as how you can
clearly see everything in the photos. A
difference between my product and the
already existing product is that my product
doesn’t just have one colour scheme. The
majority of the image is greyscale but there
are certain parts in the image that have
bright/vibrant colours (e.g. the people and the
trees).
12. AUDIENCE APPEALI think that I have appealed to my audience by using my
research to help create a range of products, my audience
being teenagers/young adults (16-25). I think because of this
age range, I have appealed to my audience through the use of
effects I used as well as a combination of different colour
schemes. (bright/vibrant and greyscale). In my research, I said
that I didn’t want to limit anyone (gender and/or of social
status) from viewing/buying my product. I did this by making
sure I didn’t include any offensive material such as slogans,
images and/or phrases. I achieved this by not including
anything inappropriate. In order to appeal to the age group of
1-25 year-olds of the effects and/or colours that I used. I have
appealed to both male and female because the range of
colours and effects I’ve used won’t just appeal to one specific
gender, since the colours are quite natural and simple. I have
to appealed to my psychographic (belongers) because of the
well balanced images and my choice of theme (minimalistic
photography/artwork) as well as the product being made in
the UK, which also appeals. I have also appeal to various social
statuses because of how it doesn’t include any offensive
material such as slogans, imager and/or phrases. I also used
my survey to help me make these products, by taking what
they liked and disliked. I think what appeals most to my
audience is the variety of colour scheme throughout my
products, this would make the more appealing the audience to
13. PORTFOLIO
I created this product through Photoshop as well as PowerPoint,
where I edited all of my images and then presented them. By
researching into already existing products, I was able to take
inspiration from an already existing product and use it create
my own. I also found various fonts from a website called ‘Font
Meme’. I chose to include different fonts on various slides in
Portfolio to show what I could have done to improve edits, e.g.
add faint text with a quote to make the overall image more
appealing. I think that I have appealed to my audience by using
my research (my interviews and survey) to create a range of
products. I have appealed to my audience by using a
combination of different colour schemes (bright/vibrant and
greyscale). I think that my work looks creative and unique. The
aspects of my product(s) that I like is the effect I’ve used, which
is an effect called ‘cutout’. I think this gives the images a sort
of artistic feel, which is good because it also fits well with my
chosen theme, my theme being ‘minimalistic photography’.
15. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
I like the variety of different products you’ve made, as well as how
you’ve edited on Photoshop. I also like how you’ve explained how you
created the products and why you chose certain things. The fonts
you’ve chosen are also good.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
I think that all your products are all a bit similar, in terms of colour
and layout wise. You could have added some aspects of different
colours into your product, so they don’t all just have the same sort of
feel and look.
16. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
I like the effects you’ve used on your photos as well as how you’ve
presented your Portfolio. I also like the fonts and colours you’ve
used.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
You could have used different colours rather than just sticking to one
colour. You could also try using a different effect, to see how that
would work with your photos.
17. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
I like the variety of different products you’ve made. I also like the
effect the used on some of your photos. The colours and font are
good to.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
All of your products look a bit similar. You could try and use different
effects to see what would work best for your products. You could also
try and experiment with different fonts as well.
18. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with my feedback. As my feedback says, I do think that my
products are a bit similar and that I could’ve also tried experimenting
with different effects to see what would work best with what image. I
could’ve also done the same with my fonts and used a variety of
different ones, to make my products look as good as possible. This
would benefit my final product because it would make it appear more
professional because of the different use of fonts (e.g. using cursive
fonts).
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I don’t really disagree with any of my feedback.
19. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
I would have used a different kind of colour scheme for each product that I
made, so they would all look different. I would also try and use different effects
because I only used one effect on the majority of my products which made it
look repetitive. If I could make any changes to my product I would want to try
and experiment with different effects rather than just using one. I would do
this by using more than just one kind of software to edit photos, (e.g. PicsArt,
an app used to edit photos on your phone). I think that my work was creative,
this is from the effect ‘cutout’ I found when using Photoshop. Although the
effect is good, it takes away the colour from the original photo so you’re just
left with a greyscale styled image. I think I also could have tried to experiment
with different fonts, since the fonts that I used were all quite similar. To do this
I would go onto the internet and find fonts that weren’t so basic and try and
experiment with them using software such as Photoshop. I chose to use a
simple fonts for my products because I don’t want the audience to focus on the
font but on the image itself. My product is creative because it’s quite simplistic
but also original. This would benefit my product by making it more appealing
to my audience because the audience would not only look at the font but at the
whole image. In addition I would use more than one kind of font, so it wouldn’t
look repetive.
