3. Research
In my research, I started of by looking into existing products such as a website and an advert from the brand âFuture Selfâ. From looking at the website, I was able to look at
how the website navigated and what pages are needed to have a fully functioning website. I learnt the main pages and the main content needed which meant I was able to
plan better for my production. Having the basic content for a clothing website helped as I was able to expand my ideas on the products, photos and layouts as I hadnât looked
at a website in that much detail. I was also able to look at a wider range of clothing websites such as ASOS which expanded my knowledge and ideas even more as they are all
different and all have different layouts, styles and navigation systems. Being able to look at a wide range of websites meant I was able to pick the best aspects from the
individual websites to create a fully functioning website that navigates easily.
After looking at the websites, I moved on to my next aspect of production, Photography. I looked at the photos on the home page and some from their gallery which meant I
could see all the photos from the past. I looked at some model photos and some product photos which helped me to look at the different locations, lighting, poses and editing
effects. Looking at these photos gave me loads of ideas about what I could do in my production and how it could improve my work compared to my original ideas. These
photos helped me to think about how all the aspects should work such as how the lighting works with the location. From these existing products, I used the idea of the
backdrop outside as it created the feel of a studio but having nature behind which works with my mental health and positivity message.
I then moved on to looking at the actual products that are being sold on the website which helped me to plan and create my products, my shop page and my product pages.
On this website there is a range of clothing products that show a range of ideas and designs which influenced my planning as I could have create more clothing products with
my t-shirts. Looking at the clothing products on this website helped as it helped me to produce a minimal design for my t-shirts as I didnât want it to be to complicated.
Another aspect of production I looked at was the advert they had created to promote a collection. I watched the video through a few times to pick up on the smaller details
such as the record player, the natural lighting in the conservatory, the retro filter added and the cassette tape at the end. This advert helped me to develop a clearer idea for
my advert as I hadnât looked at any before this. Watching this video also helped as I was able to see how it links to the website and products which I needed to plan as the
brand wouldnât work if they didnât link.
For my final piece of looking at existing products was looking at extra pieces such as the Instagram account and how the website works on a phone. Looking at the Instagram
account helped as creating an Instagram account was another possible addition to my brand if I had time. The Instagram account looked really nice as all the photos were
taken in the same style and had the same colouring due to the products and locations. Lastly, I looked at how the website worked on a phone as the screen is portrait so it will
be different. After looking on my phone at the website, I was able to see that it works better on a phone as a full picture can be seen on the screen instead of it being cut off
slightly like it is in the desktop version.
Overall, looking at these existing products helped me to develop a better idea for my brand and I was able to plan a better range of production aspects such as an advert and
an Instagram account. I was able to look back at the Future Self website when I was making my website to make sure it navigates properly and all the kept aspects is included.
4. Research
My next research section was my audience research which helped me to understand what gender my brand should be for, what my target market should be, what the
price of my products should be and what social media I should use. I collected this information by a digital form which meant all the data was produced in graphs straight
away. I learnt that my brand should be unisex as both genders liked the idea. I learnt that the price for a t-shirt should be around ÂŁ20 as most people would spend extra if
a percentage of the profit is going to charity. I learnt that the main social media platform people see clothing brandâs adverts are on Instagram or by email. After looking at
this data, I was able to expand my ideas to fit the outcomes so I made a unisex brand with ÂŁ20 t-shirts and made a landscape advert to fit on the website which can also
fit in an Instagram post.
Another section of my research was my secondary research which helped me to understand about the link of age and wanting to help the environment. From looking at
my secondary research, I was able to understand that people would pay more for a product if they knew that the company is spending extra for materials so there is no
impact on the environment as climate change is getting worse. This meant I was able to put the price of my t-shirt up a bit more as I would use sustainable materials if the
brand was developed further. Another piece of information that I learnt from my secondary research was that Generation Z is the generation that cares about the
environment the most which influenced my target market as they are more likely to buy my products. All of my secondary research has supported my audience research
as the price and target market are the same from both sections.
The next section of my research is my subject research which helped me to learn about all the mental health illness that can be diagnosed. Knowing about these would
mostly help if the brand was developed further as there could be collections for different mental health illnesses as I havenât done much with this information in my
production.
5. Research
My final section of my research was my practical research which helped me to experiment with some ideas and to learn some new ideas for my brand.
I started with looking at Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dimensions to find ways that I could add a logo/design to a photo so I didnât have to print all them and spend
money when I could do it for free. I was able to find a few ways to add my designs and to make them look realistic which gave me more options for my production. These
are easy ways to expand my work and to be able to show what my brand could be like if it was developed further. In the end I didnât make any products like this as I
wanted to expand my evaluation instead of adding some basic work to my production.
My next experiment was adding a neon light box to a photo. I found this tutorial on the Adobe website which gave a step by step tutorial which meant I was able to tweak
the design if I needed as there are many factors that you can change. I tried the effect on a random photo I found which looked cool I tried this effect again. I learnt a few
keyboard shortcuts such as holding shift to create a straight line so it didnât look wonky like my first attempt. I used this effect as it was the best from my research and it fit
the bets with my brand. I used it as a boarder on my poster to exaggerate the orange as the main colour of my brand.
Another effect I tried was isolating colours with turning the rest of the colours to black and white. This works the best if there is a solid colour with no to little gradient as
a gradient can ruin the overall effect. I was planning on using this effect but as the t-shirts were white, it didnât have the effect I was wanting with the colour collection.
I had tried a more technical experiment with the dissolve effect as I had seen it around and wanted to try it. This wouldnât work with my branding unless I created a poster
about mental health as there are a few messages I could expand on. This was definitely my more advanced experiment which I could use in future projects.
My favourite experiment that I tried was the marble background, which wasnât used in my production as I had enough photos to use already. This marble background
would work really well with the colour collection as I could have the front and back of the t-shirt shown with the colour from the text as the background. This was a main
way to present my products if I created more in Photoshop but was I only created my t-shirts in person, I didnât need to use this effect.
I then looked at an experiment with photography by using the portable studio and taking close ups of some clothes to see what ideas I could have for my brand. This
experiment helped as I used this process for my photos on the product pages as I knew what I could do and what my photos could be to show the designs.
My final experiment was looking at different locations around where I live. I looked at a park with the different apparatuses, with the backdrop idea using a black sheet
and a white sheet and I also looked at a field with no buildings in the background. This experiment helped to decided where I will take my photos as I wasnât sure what
location would work the best and would give me the most options. I decided to use the park with the black backdrop as I had many options to work with and the black
material contrasted more with the white t-shirt. The black backdrop also linked to the product photos as I used the black backdrop in the studio.
6. Research Summary
Strengths in my research:
I am happy with how my research helped me as I was able to see what I could do when creating a brand as I hadnât done any research before. I was able to expand my
ideas on photos, adverts and extras such as an Instagram account. This researched taught me what needed to be on a website and how navigation is the most important
thing to focus on when designing your website. Following my research on the Future Self website, I was able to expand my ideas by looking at a range of websites which
helped by showing me smaller details from each website so I can use them on mine. After looking at the websites, I was able to expand my ideas on what to do for the
photos and what to do for the advert as I hadnât planned or produced any of this before. I found new ideas that I wouldnât have thought about which I used as my main
ideas to fit with my products. With all of my research on existing products, I was able to get the structure of the branding package with all the aspects so I could develop
my ideas around that structure. Another strength of my research was my audience research as that helped me to develop a better target market, a better price range and
a better understanding of how people react to sustainable brands. My audience research was supported with my secondary research that I found online which gave me a
more in depth idea of my target market such as Generation Z.
Weaknesses in my research:
Even though my research is very strong, there are a few things that I could have improved on. For the photos, I could have done some more research on the poses for the
models as I wasnât sure how they should stand in the photos. Having done some more research would help develop my photos even further which would make then more
professional. To add in the description of the product pages, I could have done some more research on the different materials available and to see which ones are
sustainable. I would say that my main weakness of my research is that I didnât do much research on the video advert as I only looked at the one video with a few when I
was beginning to edit my video. If I had done some more research of existing products and some secondary research, I would say that my video would have been done
better with better visuals and ideas. As a whole my experiments really helped but I could have expanded my experiments and tried some more complicated designs which
could have not worked but I would have learnt some skills from that.
7. Planning
The next stage after research was to start to plan my production as much as possible to make sure my production runs smoothly. My main piece of planning was my
production schedule as it gave me guidance throughout the production time we had. I started with a basic production schedule as I didnât know what I would need to do
for each section and I didnât know how long each section would take to complete. I had planned to take a week to take and edit the photos which only took a day. I
planned that the website would take two and a half weeks to make which only took a week. This meant that I was mostly ahead of what I had planned so I hadn't planned
the timing as good as I could have. I did have to go back and change my production schedule so it was more detailed and so it matched my timings up to this point. This
meant I could plan what I had left to do in the time still available as I didnât want to run out of time and if I had extra time, I would make a poster. After changing and
adding to my production schedule, I was able to plan an additional poster design to go with the brand. I did have a day and a bit extra but I wanted to expand my
evaluation so I used that time for my evaluation.
My next stage of planning was how to design, make and present my t-shirt designs. I started off by looking at some minimal designs as that was the main style I was going
for with my products. I had decided to use my logo in six colours on the front of my t-shirt designs and then I needed to plan what text I was going to put on the back of
the t-shirts. To get all the options for the backs, I made a list of what each colour represents and then I chose one for each colour. Planning this meant I could find the font
when I start my production as the design was already planned. Having my designs planned meant that I could start my production as soon as we got back into college
instead of having to decide on a variety of different details, slowing down the start of my production process.
I moved on to planning the structure of my website to help with the navigation of all the pages as I wanted my website to be as simple as possible. I planned what pages
would be needed and what pages would come off the home page which meant I knew the order in which to design the pages. I also planned the colours and a basic
layout for the home page which meant I didnât have to make as many decisions all at once as it would disturb the process.
8. Planning
My final stage of planning was for my photos and for my advert. I decided to do the videos for my advert with my photos which meant I had less planning to do as I could
do them at the same time.
I started by planning some ideas for the photos and videos with a practice photo shoot. This planning meant that I had narrowed down the ideas as I knew what would
work the best and what didnât work for my brand. I had planned to do a few photo shoots but realised that with this planning, one was enough as I was just printing my t-
shirts and not other clothing products.
After planning how many photo shoots I wanted to do, I needed to decide on the location. In my practice photo shoot, I was able to plan that I wanted to shoot at the
park and not in the field I tried. Having this planned meant that I could go straight into taking the photos and videos instead of walking to both locations as it would slow
down my production time. With this location planned, I was able to choose my ideas that would work in the park as I had more options with the apparatuses. I planned to
do the backdrop outdoor studio idea in the park as there is a walk way the width of the backdrop which meant I could stretch the material so it has no creases in. Using
the backdrop idea meant I was able to link this photo shoot to my product photos as they are both on a black background. This meant that when you went from the home
page to the shop page, there was the same aesthetics as seen before. After planning my location and ideas, I was able to plan my equipment list for the shoot. Planning
my equipment meant I could collect all my equipment before the shoot so I didnât forget anything as it would mean production would take longer or the quality of my
work wouldnât be as high.
The last section of planning for my photo shoot was the contingency plan and the health and safety list. Doing the contingency plan meant I had a back up plan for
everything that could go wrong such as having a second date planned incase the model cancelled last minute. Having this planning meant my production could still run
smoothly even if something went wrong which helped as I finished on time. Completing my health and safety plan helped to think about what could go wrong for the
models and equipment. I was able to plan ahead and reduce the risk of people spreading covid as I used less people for my photo shoots which helped my production as I
didnât have to cancel anything and push back my work.
For my final section of planning, I planned what software I would use for my photos and for my video advert. This helped as I was able to plan some ideas and plan what I
would need to do for that idea. From this planning, I only used a couple of the software as the others would be too complicated to use for what I wanted. I decided to use
the software apps that I knew so I could get the work done quicker and I realised that those apps had easier ways to create what I wanted such as Adobe Dimensions is
harder than Photoshop.
9. Time Management
I have managed my time well as I finished my production ahead of what I had planned in my production schedule. I was able to complete my website quicker than I
thought and I was able to edit my video together quicker as I made it simpler than I had planned. I would say I managed my time well as I started straight away when
production began as I had planned everything before. This helped as I didnât waste anytime at the beginning because I didnât want to have to rush my work closer to the
deadline. With this extra time I was able create some poster designs to support the brand. I used one photo and rearranged the text and symbols to see what I could do
with the different logos and different headings. This extra time helped as I was able to expand my products slightly to show that I knew there was more to the brand than
the video advert. Overall, my time management was effective as I split my time equally compared to the product size and I gave myself some extra time for each section
as I hadnât used Wix before so I spent the beginning figuring out what I could do.
I was able to complete my project on time with some extra time to check over everything as I wanted what I had done to be the best. I didnât want to have done loads of
different products and they all be poorly made so I did less products but spent more time on them. If I had extra time, I could have spent more time on my video advert as
I didnât know what to do for the planning so I used what I had from my photo shoot. I could have spent more time taking better videos, editing the videos with more
animation or adding more effects/transitions in Premiere Pro. Spending more time on the advert would have improved the end product as it would have supported the
website better and drawn the viewer in to visit the website.
If I had more time to produce my work I would spent more time on my advert as that was my weaker product as I have explained above. Another aspect I would adapt
from what I have done is adding to my prints for the brand as I have only made one poster design with a few variations. I would add more ideas with photos that are like
the ones on the home page as the viewer would see the poster and then see photos from the same photo shoot on the home page of the website. The other aspects that
I would adapt is the shop page on my website. I would design more products on Photoshop and then add them to the shop page so the brand would be expanded to
more products instead of just t-shirts. Expanding the products on my website if I had more time would help as there would be more options for my prints and video
adverts.
For my next project, I will be able to stick to a more detailed production schedule as I know more and donât need to experiment as much. I can also now judge how long
something will take meaning I wonât be early or late to finishing my production. My time management will be useful for the second year as I will be able to get more done
in the time given. On the other hand I donât want to give myself to much time for everything next year so I finish too early as it would limit what I will do and what I will
learn compared to my potential.
10. Technical Qualities â Website
For my website, I used a simple template on Wix.com and then adapted it to fit my brand. Using a template made the production easier and less technical but if I started
from scratch, the website would be very simple and would have taken double the amount of time. As shown above, I will compare my website to the website I used in my
existing product section â Future Self. Comparing to the website I used at the start will help as it influence my work when I began to plan it so I can see what the
similarities are.
For my home page I have used a slideshow of photos as it shows the main aspect of the brand. For my brand, the only product is t-shirts so I have shown then where FS
has a wider range of products so they have been able categories them and use them for different slides. Both websites have a slideshow but FS has a more technical
aspects as you can click and drag from the slides where as my slideshow is operated by arrows which is the simple option. Both websites have a âShop Nowâ button which
takes the viewer to that page. FS has made their design more technical as they have programmed the buttons to take the viewer to different pages depending on what
slide they are on. If I had created more products, I would have used the home page slideshow to help navigate the website by categorising the sections.
For the shop pages, I have used two products per row as that is what fitted on the screen and it worked with the colour pairing whereas FS has a title section with a photo
before three products per row. FS has a more technical design with the heading section as it is different for each category which works with the rest of the pages as they
all have this style. On my shop page, the photo changes when you hover over the design to show another angle which doesn't happen on the FS website which could be
added to give some movement.
Overall, I would say that FS has a more technical design as there are better links between pages and better interactive sections compared to my website. My website
could have been expanded, if I had more time, which would create more pages so there would be more technical aspects added. To improve next time I would try to
make the pages from scratch as there is more to.
11. Technical Qualities â Photos
Here I have shown my main photo ideas for my brand with model shots and with close up
shots. I will compare it to Future Self photos as I used them in my research.
For the first idea I used the backdrop outdoor style to make it feel like you are in a studio
but to have the natural background shown. In my photo I used my phone as it equaled out
the contrast from the black and white whereas I didnât know enough to equal it out with
the settings. FS photos were done with a camera which added that technical side to the
photo shoot as they had to change the settings to create the balance of lighting. Both of
the photos would have been edited to tweak the photo so it is ready to be seen by the
public as there could be something on the floor that distracts from the subject. I would say
that the framing has been done better in the FS photos as the modelâs head is on the top
of the grid line that you would see on the screen whereas the models in my photo are
really far away from the camera â this could have been cropped slightly to zoom in.
For my close up shots, I have used a black background to link it to the outdoor photo shoot
so thatâs my style for the photos. For the lighting I used a portable studio with LED strip
lights which created an equal glow across the t-shirts. I would say that the lighting is better
in the FS photo as they have created shadows to look like a window and kept the shadow
of the products so they have used light from the top corner. Again both photos would have
to been edited to balance out the lighting as the darks could be too light like the black has
been darken in my close up shots.
Overall, I would say FS has more technical photos as they have used a camera and changed
the settings. They have also had to control the lighting more as they shoot in a large
photography studio. To improve my photography next time, I would frame my shots better
and have as wider range of products.
12. Technical Qualities â Video Advert
For my video advert, I have shown some transitions, a product shot and the outro
which I will compare to the Future Self advert as I used it for my research.
In my advert you can see that I have used two transitions for my video as I wanted to
break up the sequence. I used the light leak and dip to white depending on what the
video is transitioning to. I have used these and edited their speed/timing to match
the switch from one video to another. This is more technical than the FS video as in
that video, there are no special transitions, it swaps from one video to the next.
For the shots in the video, FS is more technical with the location, models and
framing/movement than my video as it is double the length so FS have used a few
locations where I have just used one. The framing in FS has a wider range of
compositions as there are multiple models modeling a range of products which works
better than my video. In my video I have repeated the same thing for each colour
pairing as it has a similar feel to the photos where they are the same for each colour
pairing.
For the outro of the advert, I have used Photoshop files to create the slideshow effect
with the text. This is technical as I had to transfer the files to Premiere Pro, set the
duration of the videos to be the same as the rest and to order them to match the
background. FS had a short video of a vinyl to finish with the retro file.
Overall I would say that my video has a technical section at the end but FS is more
technical. To improve next time I would try adding different shots that are close ups
but also wider shots. I would also like to add some more editing effects to show more
skill as my video isnât as technical as I wanted it to be.
13. Technical Qualities â Poster
Here I have shown my poster designs that I have created to support my brand and I will
compare it to a clothing brand poster which has two designs.
For the posters, the main technical aspect is the photography and editing. For my poster, I
have taken a photo in the studio with the black background as it links to the rest of my
photos on the website. I have framed the model to be in the center of the frame and to be
in the bottom half so I have room for the text. I have then edited the photo to make the
background darker as there were some lighter sections due to the lighting. For the other
poster, they have the model in the center of the frame and in different positions. In both
posters, the model is in a casual pose to suit the casual outfit they are wearing. Another
aspect they thought about was the background as the grey contrasts from the wooden
floor and from the pink in the outfit and the box. For the lighting and editing, they have
made the model lighter which creates a gradient going away from her where there is less
light. I would say that for the composition, the other poster is more technical as they have
had to think about more aspects such as the colour combination.
Both posters have used editing to make the poster stand out more. For my poster, I have
used the neon boarder effect to create the contrast from the black and orange which is a
technical effect as you have a few smaller settings to change with different layers. In the
other poster, they have just added pink rectangles which is easier to do then my design.
The final aspect of the posters are the text. On my poster, I have used my logo and
headings to fill the space which is adding text and changing the colour where as the other
poster has more text in a column. The other poster is more technical with the text as they
have changed the size of text to be the same width to create the column effect.
Overall, all the designs have the simple aspects but they all have technical aspects too. I
would say that the other posters are a better design for promoting a clothing company. To
improve next time, I would try different editing effects that need more skill.
14. Aesthetic Qualities â Website
For my website, I will look at the colours, layouts and overall balance throughout the website. I will compare my design to the Future Self website.
For my website, I have designed my home page to be aesthetically pleasing with a plain white background contrasting from the bold orange. This design looks good as you
can clearly see that orange is the main colour and then the slideshow has the orange and yellow as the starting slide. I prefer this design over the FS website as their
home page is more neutral colours so there isnât the same impact with the bold colour like mine. I have gone for the same style on my shop page with the orange and
yellow products at the top to fit with the home page and the header. For the FS website they have added a larger heading which means the products arenât fully seen
straight away. This effects the overall look as I like each aspect to fit a page instead of half a page like the FS shop page. I do like that both websites have used aspects
from the home page â colours and photos.
Both designs are creative as I have used more colour and FS has used more photography in their work with more models. Both websites are creative with the layouts of
the website and the pages as they have similar aspects but used in different ways. As a whole, both websites are aesthetically pleasing as the same colour scheme is kept
through the website with the same style in photos and in the layouts.
As a whole, my website is bright and colorful but there are some improvements that would make the website more aesthetically pleasing. I would say that having a
slideshow across the full page like the FS website looks better than the white edges either side. I did try this but the design didnât work on other desktops so I changed it
to make it more useable.
Overall, my website is aesthetically pleasing as the aspects fit on a full page, my colouring creates a bright and fun looking design and the heading is used on all the pages.
15. Aesthetic Qualities â Photos
For my photos, I will look at the colours, lighting, the framing and background of my
photos. I will compare my design to the Future Self photos.
For the outdoor photos, I think my photos look good as the colours in the colour collection
are on the apparatus behind. This links the designs on the t-shirts to the locations which
helps to exaggerate the brightness/boldness of each colour. The FS outdoor photo has a
more neutral colour scheme in the photos as the products are duller tones compared to
my colours but in the FS photos, the colour schemes are well planned and work well. The
lighting is natural for both photos as they are taken outside which gives the balanced look.
I would say that the framing of the photos in the FS photos are better as my models are far
away from the camera. If the models were closer to the camera, you wouldnât be able to
see the colours in the park that match the design, on the other hand, you canât really see
the design of the t-shirt if the camera is too far back.
For the studio photos, my photos are simple as I wanted the black background like the
backdrop in the park. I kept the closer shots simple which looks good with the contrast
from the black and the white which makes the orange pop even more. The lighting is
balanced in both photos as it is easier to control the lighting in a studio than being outside.
I like the composition and shadows in the FS photo as it has that minimal style whilst
looking aesthetically pleasing whereas my photos look more like a standard clothing brand
photo to show the products.
To improve my photos, I could have expanded my portfolio and used more ideas to expand
my photos to be more technical and to look more aesthetically pleasing. To improve next
time, I would try different locations to fit the concept whilst looking the best.
16. Aesthetic Qualities â Advert
For my advert, I will look at the colours, visuals and the outro. I will compare my
design to the Future Self website.
For my advert, I have used the same colour scheme as my photos to make them link
together to help expand the brandâs identity. The videos look good with the different
colour combination in each video as I have changed the composition to show all
angles of the designs. In the FS advert, the colours are darker which fits with brand
more as their products are more neutral. The neutral colour scheme goes with the
retro style advert and photos.
For the visuals of the adverts, both adverts had different styles to promote the brand.
My advert is shorter and has repetitive video which could ruin the aesthetics as it gets
boring whereas FS is a longer video with more individual videos which make it better
to watch. I would say that my aesthetics could be improved by expanding the videos
to show more of the products and to have more movement to keep the viewer
interested like the FS advert. I also would say that the framing in the FS advert is
better than my advert as there is a range of close up and wide shots which creates
the aesthetically pleasing look of the advert.
The outro of my advert is a range of text to create the slideshow effect which looks
good as it has all the aspects from my website. I also think that the FS ending is
aesthetically pleasing as the colouring exaggerates the retro style.
To improve my advert, I could have added more angles instead of repeating the same
one for each colour pairing. In the FS advert, there are many locations that are used
which keeps the viewer interested. Improving the videos for my advert would create a
more interesting video to watch as mine seems repetitive in the middle.
17. Aesthetic Qualities â Poster
For my poster, I will look at the colours and layouts. I will compare my design to this other
clothing brand posters.
The colour choice on both photos look good as the main colour on the poster has come
from the clothing. In my poster I have used orange for the boarder and text which looks
better than if it was one of the other colours from the colour collection as the t-shirt
wouldnât match. I like the left design as all the text is bold so you can read it as in the
other designs, the symbol logo is too thin to see which ruins the overall effect. In the
other poster they have used the pink from the clothing to be the colour of the rectangle
to make the poster more eye-catching. I would say that the other posters are more
aesthetically pleasing as it is brighter and more eye-catching.
For the layouts of the posters, both posters have used text on top of a photo. For my
poster I have used the model to be in the bottom half of the poster so there is enough
black space for the text. I decided to try three designs by changing the layout of the text
and logo to see what would work best. After trying the layouts, I figured out that having
the text in rows works the best as you read from the top which means you can put the
most important information first such as the brand name. I also like the look of the other
poster as the text is sized so it makes a rectangle and it also has extra text in blue to go
with the jeans.
Overall, I would say that the other poster looks better as it is brighter and the text is in a
box shape. To improve my poster, I would have a brighter background to make my design
more eye-catching and have the text better sized and spaced out. To improve next time, I
would make the design more eye-catching and brighter.
18. Audience Appeal
At the start of the project, I did some research to help expand my understanding of what I need to look at for creating a target market. I then was able to create a Microsoft
Form to get peopleâs opinion on different aspects from gender to prices which influenced my work. I decided to create my brand for teenagers and young adults.
The whole package â I wanted my package as a whole to link together so the viewer understands the branding and can recoginse products if seen separate to an advert. I
used colours, layouts, fonts and photos to create the brand theme and to make it unique from others. I would say that the target market for my audience was correct as I
used brighter colours in a modern style so it didnât look childish, I used minimal aspects in my website so it was easy to navigate and I created a minimal style for my
website so it was overloaded. Thinking about these things would help the buyer as it creates a calm feel when using the website rather than becoming stressed.
Website â The navigation of the website is easy to follow as it is simple and there aren't many pages to get lost on. This works for my target market as they use technology
a lot and they donât want to see a website that is complicated to use as there are many that are simple. Having a simple website will increase the chance of the buyer
spending money as they will have less time to change their mind compared to a complicated website which takes longer for the order to be completed. I also would say
that the colours on my website work for my target audience as orange is the main colour which is doesnât have a gender associated with it. Using orange shows the buyer
that this brand is unisex and anyone can buy from it. I also then have the colour collection which means there are many options for people to choose from.
T-Shirt Design â My t-shirt design is minimal and bright which works well for my target audience as the design isn't too much for the person. The text on the back works
well for teenagers and young adults as many people have mental health issues so they can relate to the meaning as they all link to mental health. Some people have
certain colours that make the feel better which is why I decided to use six colours so my brand can help more people.
Photos â For my photos, I did some outdoor photos to link mental health becoming better when you are outside as I wanted to add some smaller details in my branding. In
the park photos, the apparatus that I use has orange, yellow, blue and green which are four out of the six colours I use on the back of the t-shirts so the text on the back
become bolder as there is more of it in the photos. This works well for my target audience as there is nature in the background, bold colours and a professional aspect.
Advert â When editing my advert, I had a few options to choose from which wouldnât work as well for the target market. I decided on using the slower pace video with less
changes so it created a calm atmosphere to support the website as I tried to a make that more relaxing to use. The music I used for my advert is instrumental so it didnât
distract from the visuals and the products whilst keeping the calm feeling.
Posters â The final aspect I added were some posters designs which were used to support my brand. I used a black background to link to the photos as they were taken
with a black background. I used the same text and the same colour scheme to ensure that the viewer will be able to see that it belongs to my brand. I would say that the
poster could have been brighter instead of having a black background as it would be more eye-catching and it would be better for my target audience. On the other hand
my poster works for my target audience as it is a different idea for a poster and has a brighter colour scheme.
20. Feedback 1
What did you like about the website?
It was very well laid out and very easy to use.
What improvements could have been made to the website?
If the title had capital letters to make it look more professional.
What did you like about the advert?
Very clean and simple with effective transitions.
What improvements could have been made to the advert?
The camera work could of been better as sometimes the people went out of shot.
What did you like about the poster?
Itâs very clear and in your face and shows off the product really clearly.
What improvements could have been made to the poster?
Maybe make the model bigger and the text smaller as it takes away from the product.
21. Feedback 2
What did you like about the website?
Itâs very colourful and fun.
What improvements could have been made to the website?
You mention that youâd give 20% of profits to mental health charities which is really cool but I think you couldâve chooses a
specific charity and maybe had a link to that charity or even a page on the website talking about that charity.
What did you like about the advert?
Itâs very professional and clean.
What improvements could have been made to the advert?
Since the product is about mental health I think you couldâve maybe incorporated that a bit more by maybe showing different
struggles people with mental health issues face or adding a voice over talking about that.
What did you like about the poster?
I think the posters are neat and to the point.
What improvements could have been made to the poster?
I like the dark background but I feel like the words arenât bright enough or eye catching enough and the logo is really faint.
22. Peer Feedback Summary
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
From both feedbacks, I agreed with most of their points for the three aspects shown. For the website, they said it was simple, colourful and fun
which was my aim when I was designing the layouts and overall look for my brand. In feedback 2 they said that it would be good to link the
charities that the 20% profit would be donated to, I agree with this as if the brand was developed further, I would research what charities are the
best and link that to my website. For my advert they said it was simple and clean which is what I wanted as it would fit the branding. I agree with
the improvements they mentioned as feedback 1 said the framing could have been improved in some shots and in feedback2 they said that the
message about mental health could have been pushed more. If I did my video advert again, I would use this feedback to to improve my advert to
make it more professional and to push the message more. Lastly, I agree with the feedback on the poster as they said it was eye-catching and a
clear layout. I agree with feedback 2 as they said the logo is too faint which I knew from the start as didnât design it well enough.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
For both feedbacks, I also disagree with a few of their comments. For the website, feedback 1 said that there should be capital letters for the
name but as shown in my Production Log, I decided to keep all the letters in lowercase as it created the calm aesthetics. For my poster, I disagree
that the model should be larger as the text would be too small to read. If I made the text smaller, the impact of the poster would be reduced as it
wouldnât be as eye-catching. I would also say that the text needs to be bigger as it gives the information about the brand whereas the photo only
shows one product.
