The student conducted research on existing products to understand design choices and themes. They analyzed album covers, track lists, and merchandise. Their audience research through surveys helped narrow down appealing design options. Production experiments in Photoshop taught new skills. Planning included mind maps, mood boards, style sheets, and layout plans. Time management was better for final products than planning presentations. The album cover emulated a nature theme from an existing product but adjusted colors based on photos taken. Overall, the research and planning supported creating cohesive products, though some elements like the magazine cover could have benefited from more time and planning.
3. Research
⢠I I began my research analysing existing products that were fairly similar to what I would want to create,
the main part of my analysis was mainly understanding why the creator made certain choices, for example
the deeper meaning or the connotations of why a specific font is used or why certain colours are used. I
did this for different products which benefited me as I got to understand a variety of ways of why products
were created which would eventually impact my own products as it lead to me taking each detail into
much more consideration and how each small thing I did could mean something. Not only did I research
album covers but also track lists, one thing I noticed when doing this was that the track lists are not
entirely separate products and most track lists follow the same theme that their album covers do, realising
this had an effect on my product as when I created it I maintained the same logo across both products
and used the same font. Despite this research largely being a positive and very influential on my product,
something I could have improved was I should have researched more products, for example merchandise,
or I should have also done another poster to research as I feel a slight weakness in my research was
focusing too much on album covers, this could potentially be reflected on my final products as in my
opinion my album cover and track list were better products than my merchandise and poster which could
be due to my research slightly being more concentrated on album covers. Another way I could have
improved this is in terms of audience research, if I am to improve it I would include an audience profile
from âYouGovâ for each product researched and look at the reader profiles to get a stronger idea of similar
audiences.
4. Research
⢠The next part of my research was my audience research, this was a survey that I had conducted on survey monkey
consisting of open questions which would ideally give me a good insight on specific details of my product that would
appeal to my audience and also aspects that would not want to be seen in my product, such as specific colours and
themes and other relevant details. In my opinion this part of the research is of high importance and has a strong impact
on my final product, not only does it show what a majority of people would be interested in but also makes the
planning much easier, which makes the final production easier as the initial options are narrowed down and from then
on I can follow a clearer layout plan. One of my strengths during this research is how effective the actual questions
were and the fact I made them all (apart from age and gender related ones) quite open with multiple options.
⢠I learned from mistakes I had made on previous rotations where I did surveys. Previously I had asked questions that
were more vague and didn'tât get specific answers that would benefit me however with these I largely got answers that
made a direct impact upon my end product. An example of a way this happened was when I asked about what type of
album cover is most appealing, and most people said a âpicturesqueâ background so in my end product I used one, I
also found out the ideal number of songs people would want on a track list. Although I feel this audience research was
predominantly useful, there are elements of it which I would improve, for example I feel like I would have benefited
from getting a wider range of responses, as in some cases it appears there is a majority on the graph, however when
you actually look at the numbers it will be a majority but the actual difference in numbers may only be four or five so
arguably some of the research could appear to be less valid as oppose to if a wider audience was asked, some answers
may be different, although I donât think it is too much of an issue and regardless, the research I did gather resulted in an
end product I was satisfied with.
5. Planning
The first part of my planning began with me doing my initial plans, I began this with
discussing my initial reaction, on this I mentioned what kind of ideas I first thought of and
what type of project first came to my mind, I also discussed my opinions on this and
referenced my previous rotations and what impact they had on the potential choices I
would make. This initial reaction aspect is quite useful as it allows me to get multiple ideas
together and have more than one option. As well as an initial reaction I did mind maps for
the other concepts I had, such as a potential video game and a football based magazine.
These were useful as they gave me an alternative idea if I could not do my initial main
concept. At the time of doing these mind maps I thought they were fairly useless and a
waste of time considering I already had a pretty solid idea of what I wanted to do, however,
in hindsight it is a good thing I did them as the extra planning for some aspects of them
ended up benefiting me, for example when I created a football magazine mind map, I
looked into the different types of fonts like sans and serif and decided which ones would be
appropriate for certain magazines, which helped me in my choice for when I made my own
magazine. My mind maps varied in strengths and weaknesses, the main strengths came
from my album cover mind map, this is because on here I included the most details, this had
a good impact on my product as when creating it I followed a fairly clear plan that started
off from my initial plans. However my weaknesses on these mind maps mainly came from
the lack of detail on the other two which I was fairly sure I wouldnât go on to actually
produce the ideas from, some of the ways I could improve this is by choosing a specific
aspect from the mind map for example the images section, and taking it into a new slide
and explore aspects of types of images in extensive detail.
6. Planning
Another aspect of my initial plans are my mood boards, on these I would collect visuals that
were either inspirational or that I would want to emulate certain features of them on to my
product, or I would have colours that represented a similar style/tone I would also want to use.
In my opinion these mood boards are really useful as once they are finished I then can look
back at them and they reflect a lot of themes that I would want to emulate and then when I
was planning my actual production in further detail later on it made it easier to visualise in
detail what I wanted to create and what kind of colour schemes I would like to use. I think that
one of the strengths of my mood boards was the number of images, fonts and colours I had
gathered, this was a strength because it gave me a lot of variety and choice which showed me
different options I could use for multiple things and also showed me lots of fonts while
searching for them that I could also potentially go on to use, it also created a tone/theme I
would want with all the hot pink/blue and white. However a weakness of my mood board was
I could have used more images of different types of colours as the variation was mainly in the
fonts and images used
7. Planning
The next part of my planning came from me doing my production experiments, the initial aim of
these experiments was to learn how to do things I had not yet done and experiment with more
complex methods. The first experiment I did I was not happy with at all and after doing it realised it
did not benefit me at all and that it was something I had already done which didn't test me, and in
the end also made no impact at all on my final project. My next experiment was for my merchandise,
on this I got a template from Redbubble of an empty t shirt layout design and planned to create my
own logo on photoshop, and then place the logo on the t shirt. This process was much more
technically complicated and did show me new things, although I did watch a tutorial while doing it,
although I did not use the techniques I learned while doing this during my end project, this was
beneficial to me and in my opinion it did have a positive effect on my product as it made me become
more familiar with photoshop in general and I got used to some new tools I hadn't used before. The
last part of my production experiments was the most complex one, on this I created a 3d
manipulation type effect with a football player looking like he Is stood on the phone.
Overall, my opinions on this experiment are fairly mixed, I thought the process itself was the most
complex and while doing it I did learn new things on photoshop id never tried, however compared to
the tutorial it did not look as professional as the one they had completed so I wasnât as happy as I
could have been with it.
8. Planning
Although I do think it was the best experiment I made as it was the most challenging
as well as visually looking the strongest. This production experiments PowerPoint in
the end was useful and did benefit me in different ways, first of all I became more
familiar with photoshop and the tools and also learned a few new ways of editing an
image such as with the levels and curves. The part of this that was the most useful for
me was the merchandise experiment as I ended up using the same website for
templates and it helped me get used to it before I actually had to use it. Although
these experiments were mainly useful, an area of it I could improve if I was to do it
again would be to compare it with existing products, also I could have added more
discussion of the specific tools I used incase I needed to replicate the method again,
although luckily that did not affect me in creating my end product.
9. Planning
The last stage of my planning came from my pre production PowerPoint. The first part of this was my style sheet,
unlike previous rotations, I did a style sheet for images, fonts and colours, the first part was for my colours. This
style sheet did help me as some of the colours l did end up using, for example I used the light blue or a very similar
style for my merchandise and on my poster. These colours did end up having an impact on my work, however I did
plan to use darker colours for my album cover but there was a certain existing product which I really liked and
wanted to emulate more and so I did, and even for merchandise I didn'tâchose really dark clothes like I expected
but I did use a navy kind of colour which was similar to one of the colours on the style sheet. Although I expected
to use darker colours for my album cover and track list, I did want to keep the same theme across both of them in
terms of colours and I did end up doing that which I think looked good for my logo which was the title of both the
track list and album cover. This was a strength as it made it look more like a professional album as it was a logo that
remained throughout every product I made. I also did a style sheet for my fonts and images. On my font style sheet
I had distorted, sans serif and serif fonts as my main types, the reasoning behind this was it is a rap album and the
lyrics are not like conventional more popular music, so therefore I thought a distorted font would symbolise this as
well as more sans serif fonts that are not too basic, however for my poster I planned to use serif fonts that were
quite bold and eye catching. Planning this ahead was a strength as for my poster and eventually what would be my
magazine I had a good selection of serif fonts to choose from, however with the fonts for my album cover,
merchandise and track list, I used a new distorted font that I had found but the planning of using a distorted font
contributed to me getting the font that I wanted. For my image style sheet I collected a variety of existing products
that had similar themes to the type of thing I would be creating, this was mainly based on the colour schemes and
fonts they would use. In my opinion these had some impact on my final project because in the end I did use similar
styles of fonts and colours and also even images for my merchandise. However it didnât have an impact on my
poster but that was because before creating it I discovered the 'Olly Moss ' style posters and decided I would want
to try one of them as i think they are both visually and technically better. Overall the style sheets were not too
useful as I didn't refer back to them while creating my products, I could have improved them by talking about how
the colours could have been used, this way I would have referred back to it more and it may have improved my
product.
10. Planning
The next part of my pre production planning was my layout plans, on these I created three variations of each product I had
initially planned, with each variation intended to be more developed. I first of all did my album covers, the first concept
was quite basic, however the third was much more developed and much more specific. In terms of the end product
compared to my plans there is significant detail, mainly due to the colours. I did plan to use a picturesque background and
a full artist profile, which I did end up doing, however I intended on a dark blue background although after the images I
took turned out very well it didnât fit at all and the whole image just became the background anyway. I also intended to use
the 'stingray font' but when I tried it on my end product it was too thin and didnât stand out, even with effects. Although
the final concept didnât represent the end product very well, the second layout did have the same colour text which is
something I liked and i think turned out well, if I was to improve this I would have made quite a different alternative layout
with much different colours as in my concepts I kept the dark colour theme throughout. The next layout was for my track
list. This was similar to my album cover as I kept the same colours throughout and all the themes were the same on each
layout number as they were on the album cover, this was because I planned to keep a consistent theme between both my
album cover and track list. Although i did keep the same themes between both in my final product, I didnât use the colours
planned on these layouts. This was because like the album cover, i really liked the images I took and one of them matched
really well with the theme i had going with my album cover so I chose to use that as a background instead. In my opinion
this was a good thing as my final product for my track list looked much better than what I think it would have if I kept to the
layout plan. I also did poster layout plans although these ended up being mainly pointless and I did not refer back to these
at all because before creating my poster I decided to try emulate the 'Olly Moss' style posters so the layout itself was not
useful in the end, however I did end up using the same 'bold font' . I did not use the same colours i planned on my layouts
although i did use a similar colour to one I used on my colour style sheets. The last part of my layout plans was for my
merchandise, the third layout plan was very similar to my final product just I reversed the placement of the image and text
from being on the image being on the back and thext on the front. I also made a variation of colours in my end product
unlike my planning. Overall i think these layout plans were not very useful to me as only my merchandise was similar and I
did not refer back to them when making my product, if i was to improve them I would have created alternatives with
different colour schemes for my album cover and track list. For my planning overall i think i could have improved by adding
futher planning areas such as specific details for my photo shoots such as facial expressions, costume and body language.
This would have had a positive impact on my album cover as the clothing didn't represent the genre well, although it did in
my magazine as that ended up being created after other my other products so I prepared for that better.
12. Time Management
⢠In my opinion I did not manage my time that well for the PowerPoints, however for my actual
production I managed it fairly well. With my PowerPoints I didn't complete them as quickly as I
could have done and with most of them I would usually have to complete them outside of class
time one of the reasons for this was I thought I had more time than I did and I would get
complacent but then realise I had to submit the PowerPoint earlier than I thought so I would have
to catch up and do extra at home. However with my actual products i was more aware of the small
amount of time I had to create/edit them and I also was more clear on what I was doing. Although I
managed to get my productions done without a lot of rush, I was aware of time and in some
instances I feel like I may have benefited from slightly more time, for example with my album cover
I could have adjusted the artists face as on a closer look it looks a bit burnt as a result of some of
the adjustments, so if i had more time I would have adjusted that with the levels and the curves.
The only other area with my productions which could do with more time is my magazine cover, this
is because I could do with adding more content to the front cover. This may be because I didnât plan
beforehand to make a magazine until after finishing my other products to do a magazine so it was
hard to come up with extra details while creating it as there was no plan to follow, although this
wasnât a major concern, it was something that could have been helped if I had more time which
may have made it look more authentic.
13. Technical Qualities â Album cover
One of the similarities
of our products was the
outdoor, nature theme
that they both have,
this was the existing
product I most wanted
to emulate and I feel
like I did it in my own
way in a positive way.
One of the aspects of
this I most like is the
same pastel blue theme
in the background for
the sky. And also I liked
the nature background
of the trees which was
similar.
One of the
differences of these
is in my opinion, this
album cover portrays
a much more
unrealistic lifestyle
and is much less
relatable to people.
However people may
see this as an
inspiration so it
could be appealing
in that way.
Another similarity is the way they don't have a plain
and simple generic font, this is because they are not
like conventional music in terms of their content
and they font style's represent the music and the
genre quite well.
Another difference between these is the positioning of the text and
also how clear the title is. On my work I made the album title very
clear, this is because I wanted to make it a logo that could be seen
almost like a brand throughout the rest of my products. However, in
the existing product it is clear that their priorities are more concerned
over aspects such as the artist and the colours in the background.
14. Technical Qualities â Track list
Another similarity between these is they do not use a variety of
colours/fonts and only stick to using one/ two fonts. In my case I used
the same font I did for my title the whole way through ( other than my
copy right notice at the bottom) and similarly, on ' revival' there are
only two fonts used, one for the title and one for the actual track list.
One of the similarities
between both products is
that they keep the same
theme as they did from
the album cover they're
representing.
One of the
differences between
these is that on
'revival' there is a
much more simple
theme compared to
mine, there is no
background and it
just sticks to very
basic bold colours
throughout the entire
image. However, mine
on the other hand is
more vibrant and
colourful, it also
shows an image of
the artist. 'Revival'
may not need to
show the artist
because of the
notoriety the artist
already has (Eminem)
and they're
demonstrating his
popularity through
not even needing to
mention his name.
Another difference is the type of fonts used. On my product I used
a distorted font in order to emphasise how the music would not be
like conventional music, however the fonts used on the track list
for ' Revival' is more of a solid serif font, this reinforces their simple
style yet again that they have expressed also through their colour
scheme.
15. Technical Qualities â Poster
Although both these
posters are advertising
completely separate
things, there are still
similarities between both
of them. One of the
similarities amongst
them is how they both
can be associated with
outdoors with the items
placed on the head. Both
products have made an
effect where the sun is in
place of an eye. In this
convention of posters
objects related to the
poster are blended in to
take the place of the
main figure on the poster.
One of the
differences between
these posters is the
horizon line where
the text is meant to
go. In my opinion
the one on the Star
Wars poster is far
better as it still
blends in with the
shape of the rest of
the image, however
on mine it is just a
separate block at
the bottom of the
poster.
One of the other similarities on this is the way the most important text
is presented and how it's importance is clearly shown. This is portrayed
through both pieces as they are both very central, the colour of the
text is the brightest on the poster, and also the largest size. This is
obviously done as both ' Star Wars' and 'New Can Of Bean$' are the
main thing being advertised.
Another one of the differences is the level of detail that can be seen when looking closely. On my Poster I created a fairly
simple design in terms of the details on the character head, with only really adding details to the Minster in the
background. However when looking at the Star Wars poster, there are lots more details that you can notice such as a
landscape which is relevant to the films.
16. Technical Qualities â Magazine Cover
When deciding to do a
magazine, XXL was the
magazine I was most
inspired by and wanted
to try emulate. One of
the main similarities of
this is how both products
have a three lettered
,magazine name in a
large bold font. The
reason a bold font is used
is to add emphasis and to
make the letters in bold
to stand out compared to
surrounding text.
One of the differences
between these is how on
XXL they are aware of
how big their brand is
and they do not need to
give exposure to their
brand name as it is
already famous, this is
highlighted clearly as
they use an image and
place it over the last
letter of their brand,
however with mine there
is a lot of open space
close to my title and I
had to have the âTLMâ be
bold so it stands out
Another similarity between the products
is the placement of the text on the page,
both products have the main story in
bright text in the center of the magazine .
They also both have less important text in
a smaller, basic font in the bottom left
corner. Both magazines also have a
similar plain black and white background.
Another difference between both these magazines is my magazine has
a wider range of colours and I used different colours on separate
words for my main text on my cover. In contrast, although XXL uses a
variety of colours, they stick to certain themes and each section of
information maintains the same colour. On my magazine one of the
reasons I decided to have different colours on my main text in the
center is to show the two artists are different types of artist.
17. Technical Qualities â Merchandise
Another similarity between these is on the hoodies. The âBada$$â hoodie
uses a logo which is text referring to the artistâs name, I also did that on my
hoodie, on a different variation where it was only â new can of Bean$â on the
front, which is similar to the red hoodie on the right, I used the â Bada$$â
hoodie as inspiration before making my product.
With the
existing
products, I
liked the
simplistic style
where the
clothing was
not
overcrowded
with
text/images so
I made
something
similar on
mine.
With my t shirt I made
multiple designs but this one
has similarities to the
existing product as I made a
cartoon image of my artist
and just put it on the front of
a t shirt
One of the
differences with
the hoodies is
firstly the colour, I
did not want to
make a bright red
hoodie as I did not
think it would
appeal to my
target audience so
either lighter or
darker colours
would be preferred
by my audience
more.
Another difference between my products and the images
on the right is that although it is not visible on those
images I made more designs, and on these designs there
was an image on the front of the t shirt and text on the
back, however with the t shirt on the right, there was only
a cartoon image and nothing on the back of the t shirt.
18. Aesthetic Qualities â Album Cover
The first product I made was my album cover, in my opinion it turned out
really well aesthetically and much better than what I initially anticipated.
Although there was one similar existing product I based this off, I thin
compared to most rap album covers it was creative and looks quite original
and unique. I like quite a lot of the aspects of this album cover, one of
them is the blue sky I created in the background. The original photo before
production did have a nice sky background but after editing It became that
blue colour you can see. This looked really nice because I think it made it
look fairly un-like where it actually was and made it look like more like an
exotic sky. I think something else that made it look aesthetically good was
that it was not cluttered with images and text and there was lots of blank
spaces, I did initially expected I may have to fill some gaps but in the end it
looked better with space. Another aspect of this is liked was the green and
pink in the background, this looked good as it looked similar to the logo, it
also looked fairly similar to the existing product I wanted to base it off. I
also like how I tried to make it look as professional as I could with additions
of the Parental Advisory Explicit Content logo. Lastly another one of the
strengths in my opinion was the title and its positioning, I most liked the
colours I used on it as I think it stood out well on the album. Despite the
fact I was mainly satisfied with this, there were parts of it that I would have
liked to improve. For example, one of the weaknesses of this I think was
when a closer image is available, you can see the artists face doesnât look
to smooth as a result of some of the edits, so I would improve it by
changing the levels or curves on his face.
Another area I would say is a
weakness is the clothing/ props.
Although there were aspects that
were similar to a real one like the
artist showing off money, the clothing
could have been more accurate and
similar to a rappers, like it was on my
magazine cover. In order to improve
this I probably would have given him
better props like a chain/ ring/ hat as
seen on my magazine.
19. Aesthetic Qualities- Track list
Looking back at this product, I am pleased with it and I think it does look
aesthetically good. From a creative stand point I thought it was fairly original as
it was not based off any existing product, I also think it is creative as the
background image was an image I took myself and a lot of it I made by
improvising and making up as I went along on the spot. A visual aspect of this
that I like is the background of the scenic view, not only does it match the theme
I had from my original album cover, but it also represents the artists background
of where he comes from. Additionally I think the edit of the light pink is not too
bright and does look visually good. Another aspect of this that I think is
aesthetically pleasing is the font for the actual track list itself. I think this is good
because the font used along with the drop shadow firstly matches well with the
background, but also it keeps the same theme from the album cover and the
title of the track list, and generally in my opinion the use of those pink/white
colours throughout the track list looks really good together on their own
without having to use other colours. Another strength of this I think is the
copyright text and âcâ logo at the bottom that adds a feeling of authenticity to it
and makes it look more professional. Although I do like this product I think there
are also weaknesses to it, although it is not a huge issue some of the text is not
clear on smaller images , in order to improve it I would probably make it bigger
and fill the blank space beneath it. Similarly to my album cover, another
weakness of this is when close up, the artistâs face looks slightly green/ burned.
In order to improve that I would have to adjust the curves/levels on his face/
adjust the hue and saturation on his face.
20. Aesthetic Qualities- Poster
In my opinion this poster did look fairly good. I didnât initially plan to do this
style of poster however I came across them and thought they looked really good
so I thought I would try do one as well. I think the concept of this and the
features on it are probably the best in terms of creativity, however the concept
itself was based off other products so it was not as original as the others. One of
the visual aspects I liked the most is the minster on the artist's face, I think I
made it look fairly realistic and it also represented the artist's background well
and it came across how I wanted it to. Another aspect of the visuals I like is how
I used the sun to create an effect as if it is his eye and I made the clouds appear
to be like eyebrows. Despite the fact I mainly liked this product, if I was to
improve It I would fix the part where the black begins for the tour date text as it
does not blend in very well. In order to improve it I would try blend it in more
along the shoulders as it starts quite abruptly. Also although it is similar another
aspect of this I didnât like was in the right corner of the shoulder, i didnât like this
as there was a bit of a gap where the minster part had not covered it. In order to
improve it I would have filled in that small gap.
21. Aesthetic Qualities- Merchandise
I made multiple designs for my merchandise. Most f them were just different
items with the logo that is seen there on the back or front. The other ones
would have the ' new can of Bean$ logo on the other side of the t shirt.
Compared to the other products there is not a lot to say about these and they
also in my opinion do not show any creativity. However one aspect of this I do
like is the simplicity of this design as if it was overcrowded with images and text
it would not look as good but the image looks good with just the artist on. If I
was to improve my designs I probably would have got a different image for the
artist and used the one I did for my magazine, however I created my magazine
after, one of the reasons I don't like that image of the artist too much is because
the clothing did not really suit the rap genre too well so from that image alone
you can not tell what the artist may be about, however if i was to improve it I
would have had the artist have different props and clothing to suit the genre
more.
22. Aesthetic Qualities- Magazine
The last product I made was my magazine cover. Overall i was really happy with
this product in the end, this was based off another existing product however. I
donât think this was that creative as it was based off another product and I had
quite a bit of inspiration for it and not much of it came from own imagination. A
visual aspect of this I like is the costume and props as they suited the genre and
it also made it look more like a professional magazine. Another aspect of this I
like is the bold font used for the title of the magazine, this emphasises what I
thought was important on the magazine as it has a lot of space to itself and is in
a bold font so it is obvious it is important. Another positive visual aspect of this
in my opinion is the variety of colours used as they contrast the black and white
theme in the background. I also like how I used a different font for both artist's
names to highlight how they are separate people and may have conflicting
views. Despite mainly being pleased with this magazine aesthetically, there are
still some weaknesses on it. One of the weaknesses I think is the extra names in
the bottom corner, this is because I don't think that orange colour stood out to
well and it makes it quite hard to read the names, in order to improve this I
would probably make it a darker shade of orange. Another area of this I would
like to improve is probably add a bit more content on to the page for example in
the top right corner where there is some empty space. I would improve this by
adding a different article title in the top right corner.
23. Audience Appeal
One of the ways I have appealed to my target
audience is because I think the colours on my
album cover were appealing as they were a nice
mix of fairly bright colours and they were not too
bright but also they were not dull either. This
would be appealing to my audience as someone I
interviewed referred to the colours being the most
important on the album cover. Another way I think
I appeal to my audience is because the
merchandise I created was relevant to all my
products as I used the same logo and also an image
of my artist on the shirts. Another part of my
productions that would have appealed to my
target audience is on my track list I tried to make
song names that could appear relatable in some
instances for example the word ' brother' gives
connotations of family and also demonstrates how
the artist is likely to have a close family
relationship which many people would find
relatable.
24. Audience Appeal
Another way I appealed to my audience is by
using a picturesque background with a good
image of the artist. When getting the images
for this I wanted to get the most picturesque
image possible and I feel like I got lucky
combined with editing to get a good image
that looked quite picturesque for my
background. As well as this I think I appealed
to my audience with the number of songs on
my track list. When I did my survey the
majority of people said that an ideal number
of songs on an album would be â11-13â so I
added 12 which I thought would be good as it
was in-between so would satisfy the most
people.
25. Improvements
⢠The only production I made improvements on was to my magazine cover, this production required improvements for the
content on the front cover and to adjust some of the colours and font sizes/positioning. One of the reasons I think this
production needed to be improved is because this was not planned like the other products and I had to make it up as I went
a long. My first design is on the far left, and I improved that myself as I did not like the âmystery guest â element a long with
the question marks as it did not look professional. The middle image was the design I sent to josh, however I did think there
was improvements that could be made although I was not too sure what, but after being helped by Josh I finished with the
third product. One of the improvements I made was changing the colour and adding a date to the small information at the
top underneath the title. This was a good thing in my opinion as it drew less attention to it which is good because it is not
really important information however it does need to be there. The most noticeable improvement I made was with the text
for the â Bean$â and âHaaseâ. Following Joshâs advice I used separate fonts and slightly separate colours to portray a
difference in the artists. Lastly, I added some more content by adding some other artistâs names at the bottom as this was
also suggested by Josh, but not only that it was something I had seen on other magazines and I also needed more content in
general so this was a good improvement to make. Overall I think I made good improvements from my first product to my last
product and there is definitely a positive difference with the image on the far right looking far more professional than the
one I began with at the far left.
27. Feedback 1
⢠What did you like about the product?
â I like the font on the front cover because it fits well
with the genre. I also like the photography and the
pose because this represents the genre well.
⢠What improvements could have been made to
the product?
⢠I think the colour correction could be edited. For example, make it look less
saturated and experiment with RGB curves. The clothing doesn'tât really fit the
genre so maybe more images could be taken with suitable clothing.
28. Feedback 2
⢠What did you like about the product?
â Looking at your poster, I really like the imagery, where you have the outline of the head, with York
Minster inside. I also like the clouds and sun that you have at the top, you have also used vibrant and
colours that really stand out to your chosen target audience. I also like the main font that you have
used, I think that the pink really works well with the white and stands out very well. I also like the
fact you have used realistic places, I feel as if it brings a sense of realism to the poster.
⢠What improvements could have been made to
the product?
⢠Looking at your poster, I can see a few improvements that could be done, for example I think that you
could space one side of the text out below your poster, as it's sort of bunched up together. I also think you
could make the shoulder on the right side raised a bit more.
29. Feedback 3
⢠What did you like about the product?
⢠I think the visuals looked good on the magazine, I particularly liked your font choices for the
magazine name and also for the other text that was in the center. Another aspect I liked about your
product was the poses the artist were pulling as they represented the genre well.
⢠What improvements could have been made to the
product?
One of the areas that you could improve with this magazine is by adding more content, this is because on some
other real life magazines there is usually at least one other bit of information about what is inside the
magazine. Another part you could change is the colours on the text in the bottom corner, this is so they stand
out more and is slightly more readable.
30. Peer Feedback Summary 1
⢠What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
⢠One aspect I agree with comes from the improvements, as I also think that the
clothing on my artist didnât represent the genre very well. I also agree that the
colour correction could be edited especially on the artistâs face.
⢠What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
⢠However, I do disagree with the comments about â the font on the front coverâ as I
donât think it does fit with the genre in terms of colour but the style does so it
depends on how my peer meant it as the style does fit the genre but I would not
agree that that the colour for the font is the most conventional of this genre.
31. Peer Feedback Summary 2
⢠What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
â I agree with the feedback that says âI think that you could space one side of
the text out below your poster, as it's sort of bunched up together. â I think
this is correct and If I am to edit my poster this is one of the first changes I
would make.
⢠What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
One comment that I disagree with is âI also think you could make the shoulder on the
right side raised a bit more. â I disagree with this as it wouldât make much sense and it
would take the whole artist out of proportion.
32. Peer Feedback Summary 3
⢠What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
⢠One comment I agree with from this feedback is âAnother aspect I liked about your product was the
poses the artist were pulling as they represented the genre well.â I think this is true and especially
compared to one of my other products where this was an element I got wrong it was good to see
this time it worked out and suited the genre well.
⢠What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I donât entirely disagree with any of this feedback, however there is one comment I can see both sides
to, if I was to be pedantic with one comment it would be âyou could improve with this magazine is by
adding more contentâ I could disagree with this statement to the extent that the blank spaces actually
looked good and was an area that made the magazine look good rather than being an issue and if I
added more content it may have over- crowded the page.
