The document provides an evaluation of a student's production process for creating promotional materials for a rock band. It summarizes the student's research methods, including analyzing existing products, conducting surveys and interviews. It also discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the student's research, planning, time management, and the technical and aesthetic qualities of the final products. The document includes feedback from peers on what they liked and how the products could be improved, as well as the student's response to the feedback.
3. Research
• How did your research help your product?
• My research helped my product because I got to look at other existing products from a professional graphics designer. I looked through
his portfolio and I got some good ideas that I could add into my work. The reason I would do this is because I got to know some good
techniques that I could use from other images. Also another way the research helped is that I got to see the difference between the
graphics now and what they were like in 1990. I got to see what different types of images and how they looked. It was good that I asked
people to answer a questionnaire because I got other people’s perspectives of what they would like to represent a rock band. I got a lot
of answers from people that I asked and I had a good understanding of what people wanted. This helped me because I added
somethings into my product that I got from people and then this will intrigue the people who took the questionnaire. Also the interview
helped because I could see what they think about it from the top of their head instead of putting answers into questionnaire that aren't
truthful. This helped because I know it would be truthful from the people I asked.
• What were the strengths of your research?
• Some of the strengths of my research is that I had a age range that I was targeting so I knew exactly what I wanted in my product so
that it would appeal to correct age range. This is good because if I put something that would appeal to children into the product then
older people will not want it because the will think that it isn’t for them. Another strength is that the people that I asked answered the
questions and gave me feedback so I would be able to create the product that would suit the audience. Also another strength is that the
questions that I asked were well formed so the audience will be able to understand the questions and then I will get positive answers.
Also another strength is that we get to use online tolls such as survey monkey. This helps us with our questionnaire because it makes it
an easier way to send the questionnaire out online.
• What were the weaknesses of your research?
• Some of the weaknesses of my research is that some people may not answer the questions properly so I won’t get 100% honest
answers. This can be bad because if I start to create my product and I do it from what I got on the questionnaire then people might not
like my product because they didn’t answer properly.
• What could you have done better/improve? What effect would this have had on your product?
– To improve my research I could of looked for more existing products and wrote more about them. This would of helped because
the more images that I look at the better detail I could add into my product. Also another way I could of improved my research is
to watch some videos on some techniques on youtube of different aspects of photosop to create a better piece of work. This
would of helped because I could of added more detail by using techniques that I have learnt.
4. Planning
• Some of the strengths of planning my product is that I get to see and experiment with different fonts. I can use different fonts and put
them into a powerpoint and then I can find different fonts that match my genre. To make the fonts even better I used blending options
and messed around with different techniques to make the text look better. Also it will save time in production because I will have the
fonts sorted and know what I want to use. Also another strength of my planning is that I can plan colour schemes that will work well
together so when I look for images I know what colour to look for. This helped in my product because I used a lot of different colour
schemes that looked good together. I didn’t use loads of different colours that didn’t match. A strength of planning is that I can do a
basic design on PowerPoint and then when I work in photoshop I know exactly what I am doing but I need to make it in much more
detail. I knew that it would be much harder to create what I wanted to do in powerpoint compared to photoshop so I didn’t make it as
detailed. Another strength is that is that I will be able to plan all the software's that I will need and all the recourses for my images. I got
all my images ready that I wanted to use for the product and then turned them into the planning piece.
• My planning helped my product because In some of the fonts that I used in my planning, I also used in my final product. The reason I
used some of the same fonts is because I knew that they would stand out and be able to read. This helps because when people come to
look at the work they know what they are reading. Another way planning helped my product is that I planned out what I wanted my
designs to look like and I used a similar design to the T-shirt but on the logo I completely changed it.
• Some of the weaknesses of my planning is that when I planned the logo I didn’t make my final logo anything like it. I thought it would
look better when I created it in PowerPoint but then when I made it in Photoshop I realised that it will not be good for a professional
logo. In a way I am glad I made it nothing like it because my final logo is much better then my planned logo.
• To improve my product I could of added more detail to the logo. I made the logo a pretty basic design and I think that if I spent more
time on the logo I could of made it much better and maybe got a higher grade. The way I could of added more detail to the logo is that I
could of added an image over the top of it and then changed to type of image to an overlay or I could of even darkened the image. I
could of done anything that is in the drop down menu.
5. Time Management
• I think I managed my time well because I finished my initial plans within the first few days but then when I got
onto the research it took me a while to get to the end of research. On initial plans I spent a lot of time doing the
spider diagrams so I knew and had a good understanding of what I wanted my product to be. It then took me a
lesson to find loads of images that I thought would go well with the product that I am creating. I then spent more
time on mood board analysis, informal proposal and the choices that I wasn’t going to do in my product. Research
took me a long time because it is a 26 page document. I spent a lot of time looking at different existing products. I
wanted to make sure I knew what the product was about and how they created it. I did research analysis quite fast
because I knew what I had researched. After all of that I had to create a questionnaire and then wait for all the
answers to come in. I created the interview quite quick and then I got fast answers because I could easily ask the
person that I was next to. I lost the end of my research but then I have recently completed it again. I then made
the audience profile pretty fast and then moved onto the rest of the project. When I started production
experiments I quickly finished my design for a poster because I made it a simple design. I said how I made it and
exactly what I used. I then made a robber t-shirt design and then also a cd cover. I used the same colour scheme
for the poster and the cd cover. I did this because If somebody sees the poster it will also catch their eye on the cd
cover. I spent most of my time on the writing about the different products that I created for my experiments. I
spent more time on explaining why because I wanted to say exactly how it was done. After the experiments I
moved onto the proposal and filled out every part of the boxes that it tells me to and added more detail. Then
moved onto production reflection and explained every little aspect that I added into the production. For my
production I started with the logo design and I created this in photoshop. To add the boarder around the text I
used the rectangle tool but if I wanted to save time I could of used the pen tool and then created the box I wanted
it to. I made the logo all in class times and I didn’t do any at home. Then I started the poster and I did this as
simple as I could and I do not think that I would have been be able to create them in a faster time. I then created
the t-shirt design and I added the logo onto the front and the back. It didn’t take me long to create the t-shirt
design because all I did was add the logo's and then add some text onto the back. The final thing that I did was
create the CD cover and this probably took me the longest time because I made two parts of it, the CD and the CD
cover. Then I added them all into one photoshop file.
6. Technical Qualities
My work is similar to this product because we both have our logo where it is visible. This good
because if the audience see an advertisement on a wall and they are a fan of the band then they will
take a look at the poster. Also another similarity of my product and the existing product is that we
both have the tour dates and also what year the tour is taking place in the header. This is good
because you will be able to see when the tour is taking place and the audience can see when it all
happens. I did this in my planning products but I added the details onto the t-shirt instead of the
poster. Some differences of our posters are that I have all the contact details at the bottom of the
page so that the audience can contact when necessary and the existing one doesn't. Also another
difference is that I have an image of the band playing and they do not. This will help people tell the
style of the band if they do not know who they are.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I think that my work looks good because it has
a simple design to it so people will want to take
a look because they know they wont be looking
at it for ages. This is good because people will
understand what the poster is saying. Also my
poster does not have a range of colours so
people wont become distracted by
unnecessary colours and pictures. This helps
because people will look for the most
important information that is on the poster.
Some parts of my work that I think was
creative is that every aspect of the poster has
its own separate box so people can understand
what is going on. Some aspects of the visuals
that I like are that I have added a drawn guitar
on to a piece of paper. I like this because my
poster has a personal and handwritten theme.
To improve my product I probably would of put
some sort of boarder round the edge to make
it look like it is on a pin board.
8. Audience Appeal
To appeal my target audience I made sure I kept it
simple so that It would be easier to read. If I made it
too complicated then the audience might not of been
be able to understand what the poster was talking
about. I also did this in my planning because I knew
that I wanted to make a less complicated poster. On
my experiments I only added one guitar and then the
logo inside it. I made it much better on my final
product but not too complicated. Also another way
that I have made my product appeal to my target
audience is that I have added images of the band,
this will be good for the age range that I am targeting
because if they don’t know who the band is then
they can take a look at the images. Also another
aspect that I have done to appeal to my target
audience is that I have made the font easy to read
and I have not used any complicated words that the
audience may not understand. I have done this
because if the cant read a word then they might not
be still interested in the band.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the theme that you have used. You have kept
everything on the poster as it is made by hand and not
done on a computer. Also another part that I like is that
you have kept the same sticky notes for all the social
media links.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• To improve you could of added a boarded round the
edge of the poster to make it look like it is an actual pin
board and not a background.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked how you have added a drawn on guitar at the bottom of
the part where you have added all the tour dates. Also another
part that I like is that you have a variety of ways that you have
stuck on the post-it notes. You have some taped and then you
have old school picture frames pinned on.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• To improve your product you could of added a little bit more
information about the band and where they come from. This would
be good because if people don’t know who they are then they can
get to know them by reading up front on the poster instead of
researching them.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I liked that you have kept the same font all the
way through. You have made it look like the poster
is handmade. Also I like that you have added
different sections for each part of the poster.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– To improve the product you could maybe add
some sort of outline round the edge to make it
look like it is actually pinned onto a board.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree that I should of add a boarder around the edge to make it look
like it is actually stuck onto something. The reason I agree with the
feedback is because it could give it that little bit of extra detail and it
could intrigue more people to the band. If people see that you have
put that that little bit more effort into the work then they will
understand that you are willing to succeed.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I don’t really disagree with anything but if I had to disagree with
something it would be to add more information onto the poster. I
wouldn’t like this because I wouldn’t want people to sand there in
front of the poster when they can go and research about it. I also
asked some other people that I have spoken to and they would not
want to see a poster with too much information on because it will take
too long to read.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
– If I was going to change something on my poster I would
definitely add a boarder around the edge to make it look
like it is actually a pin board. This would give it that extra
pop and show exactly what the boarder is. I didn’t add this
in the end because I liked how my poster was and I did not
want to change it. If I changed the look of the poster I
might end up ruining it and then less people will want to
look at it. I wouldn’t change anything else from my
feedback but if somebody requested something that I
think would work then I would change it. I think that my
product is fine how it is but then in the end if I did like
what somebody suggested then I will make an effort to
make it to the best of my ability.
