Research
• For the research I used my own knowledge as I'm familiar with podcast
which helped a lot when looking at existing products. I researched it by
looking at podcasts I listen to myself on there respected platforms which
would be YouTube and Spotify after listening to them them I started to do
mind maps to see what makes them stand out from each other and what
they do differently to each other to make them stand out to there
different target audiences. The weaknesses of this is that I only looked into
products that I knew of before and I started, to improve I could have used
podcasts that I didn’t know about. There could have been better
exemples. This will help in my final product as i will be able to see what
works well and what doesn’t .
Planning
• For my planning I mainly listened and watched the 3 chosen podcasts and
planned out what parts used in there's that I would like mine to end up
like. The weakness of this that there could have been more text put down
instead of doing a mood board for it and talking about the dialogue a lot
more because that is the main part of the podcast. It helped in my end
work because I was able to keep going back to it if I needed to and see
what else could be added in to mine own podcast. To understand what
they are actually like I spend a lot of time watching and listening and
watching the 3 podcasts id chosen to research to see how they are
presented. This would help out when recording my own at the end as I’ll
know first hand how to do them and how they should sound with what
type of tone and well spoken you should be.
Time Management
• I could have managed my time better as I put a lot more time into my
research and then not a lot into the others. I was able to do all of the
recording at home so I was able to do a lot of it in my own time and just
do the typing at college. If I had more time to complete this I would have
made it longer overall as well as well as add in more in terms as sound. I
would have added in my audio into the background so I wasn’t so much
white noise at the parts of the podcast that didn’t have much audio such
as going between the dialogue and the advert. I could have added more in
such as changing the topic being talked about so that it would appeal ever
more to people.
Technical Qualities
My podcast talks about real events that would effect the listener directly as
do the other podcast that I researched on. They also run and are able to be
streamed due to them having ads running throughout them as does mine.
Also they are done to give out information but in a way that is easy for people
to follow and understand as you don’t have to read anything your self. They
are similar that it’s a topic that a lot of people are not aware about but that is
something that has a effect on most people.
Compare your work to similar existing products and discuss the similarities and differences
Aural Qualities
• The podcast worked well at getting the information to the viewer in a way
that could be understood and made interesting to view. It was done
differently that expected as YouTube and everything with an be a messy
and loud place so it being calmer helped. To improve it I would have
recorded the audio again to make sure it sounded better than before with
no white noise running in it. For this I would have used different
equipment and or devices to make it better, I could try recorded it by
being closer or having the microphone set up differently to make sure the
sound is going though well.
Audience Appeal
• How have you appealed to your target audience? What
specific bits of content would appeal to your target
audience.
• Make reference to specific recordings, dialogue, music and
sound effects
To appeal to the target audience I make sure it was about a
topic that one way or another would have some type of effect
on them, directly or indirectly it would be something that they
would know a little bit about. The use of the into music being
‘Lo-Fi’ helped with the target audience as it’s a genre of music
that is very popular at time time. The whole YouTube will effect
everyone even if you are to only have watched it a few time
and not paying any type of attention to what happens deeper
within.

Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product? A good sole
perspective that covers both sides of the issues that surround advertising
and YouTube. Used an introduction for the listener to decide if they are
interested. A good example used an introduction for the licensing on the
platform. As with many platforms for public consumption they come with
advertisements of their own and this also includes this element.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product? Whilst it has sections using music in between to
identify between an advert and the information for the podcast listener, it
could be slightly clear by the podcast and less background noise. Though
this probably would come with practice and testing equipment. Could use
an interview rather than solo with someone who has experienced issues
on YouTube.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product? In the digital
space the podcast sits, it is the human voice that reaches out and Taylor
has a calm and relaxed voice. He used an introduction and gave talked
about problems with advertising on YouTube. His voice is able to put
across his points and gives a small character picture from this, since only
listening rather that watching.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• Could have referred some evidence in the field to back up his opinion.
Could be clearer but this would likely be the result of trying it for the first
time. Using alternative settings…could have offered an example whilst
talking through it. Maybe use a script or episode summary to help plan a
longer show. Signpost links for listeners that are relevant to advertising.
Use a couple of examples.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?I liked the
relaxed intro, great music choice.. Taylor’s delivery is relaxed and he has a
great radio voice. The party/crowd vibe accompanying the music is great
and gives a relaxed party summer afternoon feel to the show. The subject
covered is interesting and if he did a follow up I would listen to it.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• The Advert cold have used a different voice to give a bit of variation to the
show. The script like any script needed a bit more practice to make sure it
flowed smoothly.
• There is a little warble on the voice that has come from the software and
better equipment or a different recording software package would fix
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback? That it was done in a calmer and chilled way and that the
use of an adverted gives off a more professional look to it and done a bit
more serious.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?I disagree that the podcast could have had a second
person on the podcast because the main point of a different person is for
a different view point or opinion, but the theme of it make it hard for
someone to disagree with what I would be saying.
Peer Feedback Summary
I would have used a different microphone to record with or
change it to sound a better when listening to, this is because
at time the audio gets to a lower quality when taking breaks
and you will just hear white noise in the background. I also
would have tried out different equipment to improve the
over all quality. I also would have tried to change the tone of
my voice for advertising as it would be something that would
be more upbeat that is matching the music that its changed
to.
