2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. Layout 1
***
vlone
The front cover will have
use black and blue colours
only so it would clash the
other pages and stand out
from a distance. All the
images used are from
google images or Instagram.
It uses the blue and teal
from the style sheet and
the others will be used in
other pages. It will not
have much text on it and
will mainly be images.
4. Layout 2
The second page would
use orange or the
inverted colours to
what is used in the
front cover.
It would use the more
earthy colours from
the style sheet to
contrast with the blue
and teal. Also it will be
as different as possible
from the main page,
this page will include
text in it.

6. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Loosing work due to a saving error. To make sure you have auto saving turned on
or to manually do it every so often.
Saving work in the wrong format. After saving your work, save it and reopen it to
see if its correct.
Leaving work saved to a certain computer or
device.
After saving to desktop also make sure you’ve
saved in way that you can access at anytime
7. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
If you where to use headphones the wire could
be a tripping hazard.
Make sure that the wires your using are on the
desk.
Another tripping hazard could be personal
items left on the floor such and bags and coats.
After you sit down make sure you put
everything under the desk.
A issue could be the Wi-Fi being turned off and
not saving work before hand.
Make sure you have saved your work often
though out the lesson.
Water damage could happen to any equipment
at any time.
If you need a drink don’t do it at a pc to avoid
it.
An issue could be that the computers would
overheat die to having a lot of demanding
applications open.
If you are finished with something you should
save it and close it down after.
