First Violin Research Paper
A person could lose approximately one hundred and seventy calories just by playing the violin for an
hour. In addition, if one were to play at a young age studies show they develop better motor skills (Lai
Tong, Brendan). How did this fascinating instrument come to light? The violin has been around for
over five hundred years; scholars have debated the exact origins of the violin. Although, most scholars
agree that the violin evolved from the fiddle and the rebec from the medieval period, the early 15th
century (Estrella, Espie). In its early years the instrument was not seen as being magnificent, but in
time it became a huge phenomena all over the world. There are many differences in the violins that
were manufactured previously in the 1500s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

technical and artistic aspects. Isaac Stern and Fritz Kreisler where two of the most well known
violinist of the time (Estrella, Espie). As stated in this paper earlier at first the fabrication of violin s
strings were with goat gut. Now they are created out of synthetic materials or steel and twisted with
various metals. The strings are also strung tighter, about fifty percent. Back then people did not use a
chin rest like they do now; in fact, chin rests weren t even brought until the 19th century (Powers).
The fingerboard and the neck are now longer than they use to be. Some other changes include that of
the bass bar and the sound post; both are thicker than they were back

Designing And Performing A Procedure
Title: Designing and Performing a Procedure Used to Determine the Percent of Water in a Hydrate
Objective: To determine the chemical formula for the Mystery Hydrate
Problem: Determining the formula for the Mystery Hydrate
Variables:
Independent Variable (IV)
What percent water is the Mystery Hydrate
Dependent Variable (DV)
The amount of hydrate left after heating
Introduction
Hydrates are substances that include water in their formula. The water is not actually part of the
chemical substance and this is reflected in the way the formula is written (ChemTeam, 2016). An
example of a hydrate is beryllium sulfate tetrahydrate, which is written like: BeSO4· 4H2O. All
hydrates follow the same formula format; with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Women s Role During The American Revolution
Solomon devoted some consideration to political issues. Women s role was continually questioned
during the American Revolution, when women expressed competency in many roles. While some
females joined the war as undercover spies or soldiers, other women established activist groups to
protest, campaign and raise funds. Solomon considers this war to be the opportunity for women to
demonstrate their abilities in public and private spheres that could have implications in the latter
movements. After the revolution, more women were contemplating their suppositional capacity to
develop and elevate individually and subjectively. The prevailing stereotype at the time was daughters
to be notable as housewives upholding the colonial tradition of piety, modesty, frugality, and fertility.
This mindset laid the foundation to slow the progress to reshape the female status after the revolution.
Although the revolution expended constitutional advancements on voting, marriage and divorce, not
all the republic benefited the new laws. Of note, New Jersey passed a law in 1787 that gave the right
to all inhabitant of the proper age and property qualifications to choose and vote, until an election
fraud causing the law to take a step back to its original parameters, allowing only white male at the
age of twenty one with money and clear estate to vote. Additionally, the republican idea persuaded a
movement towards a more commonly accepted concept of education. This ideal made education

Comback of Steroids in Sport
By the end of the 21st century steroids will be permitted in every professional sport. Professional
sports can put as many limitations on what athletes can take but it will never be enough. Many athletes
will have enough money to overcome these limitations. They may still get caught with the drugs but
they have enough money to control the media so people won t see what they did. There is only one
way to level the playing field. The only way is to make steroids legal in professional sports. In the
article, Why it s Time to Legalize Steroids in Professional Sports by Chris Smith, he says, Not only
would the playing field suddenly be even for all players, it would be at a higher level. I think that this
is exactly true. Legalizing steroids would make the sports more entertaining. Athletes in the sport will
be able to play at a higher level. Chris Smith also said, It also makes sense for professional sports to
allow steroids from a business standpoint. People will pay more money to watch the upper level
athletes perform. If steroids were legal it would make drug stores more money because more people
would be buying steroids. Not only will the legalization of steroids benefit the sport, it will benefit
other businesses as well. Athletes will have a choice of if they want to do steroids or not. There are
many side effects of using steroids. One of the side effects is that the body will stop producing natural
testosterone. The next side effect is that steroids cause

High Turnover Is Tactical Work
Analysis Entry Phase According to Robinson and Robinson (2008), the issue of high turnover is
tactical work because it focuses on the design and implementation of solutions that address the
barriers to successful performance (p. 19). This tactical work can be reframed to focus on lowering the
turnover rate of engineers so that half the engineers stay with the company and do not quit within the
first two years and as a result, innovative products are produced. Assessment Phase One obvious
factor of a should assessment is that the company should be creative and not old fashioned so that
products developed are creative which brings about desire for customers to purchase their products in
lieu of the competitor s. A second factor of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In advance, prework helps to advance information in future communications. Therefore, more
knowledge is gained through questionnaires sent prior to personal interviews. The next factor is to
seek answers as to the current state of work accomplished by engineers in the gap analysis to identify
strengths and weaknesses in frequency and skill levels. An IS assessment focuses does not focus on
the star employees or the managers, but on the group of engineers. Barriers and signs of inefficiency
indicate gap areas of needed improvement. Again, questionnaires may gain insight as to how the
engineers do their jobs and comparisons can be made to the star employees and managers. It is
advisable to interview the managers of the average engineering groups in addition to questionnaires to
yield more valuable data. Two sources of data is adequate and within reason in regard to time and
budget constraints. Questionnaires are a good start because of the direct information sought and
interviews allow for follow up questions and more detailed data. It is important that employees are
provided confidentiality agreements and given the option on whether or not to participate. A Likert
scale allows for easy computations of the questionnaires, because the low numbers indicate failures
and the high numbers mean successes. The last assessment involves identifying the causes in order to
seek solutions. The data retrieved from the questionnaires and interviews provide

How Student Can Use Memory Concepts That Will Improve...
Having memories impacts our lives greatly without them society would not be as it is today.
According to Grison, Heatherton, and Gazzaniga(2015), memory is the capacity to acquire and retain
information and skills. Not all experiences will be equally remembered, some events will leave no
memory, others will be remembered but later forgotten, and other times a memory can be remembered
for a lifetime. I will be looking into how student can use memory concepts that will improve student s
grades if they follow it correctly. And also talk about my personal study habits and how I can improve
them so I can get a more positive result in my classes. There are three phases of memory; which are
encoding, storage, and retrieval. According to Calvillo (2014); encoding is the processing of
information so that it can be stored, storage is the retention of encoded representations over time, and
lastly retrieval is the act of recalling or remembering stored information when it is needed. When
students use these three phases in school properly it will lead to success in their academic career but if
they just do minimal preparation and cut corners it will lead to a stressful time for the student. For
example in the encoding process a good student would reread a section until they familiarize
themselves with the new information. A bad student would just go over a section once and just keep
on going on to new information even though they have not familiarized themselves with the new

Accounting Standards Boards
The field of accounting is constantly evolving. This is true not only for the theory of accounting itself
but also the entities that govern its theory and practice. Presently, the Financial Accounting Standards
Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) are faced with some of the
biggest challenges to date. To understand the significance of these two boards, it is necessary to
understand their histories, relations between the boards, and the standards that they set. Also how the
knowledge of these boards and the field they lead, gained through the masters of science in
accountancy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The works of the APB were known as APB Opinions. The APB was criticized as well, so the AICPA
appointed two committees, from whose recommendations the FASB was founded in 1973 (Schroeder,
Clark, Cathey, 2011, p. 5 9).
International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) As stated earlier, the IASB arose from specific
needs of the accounting industry and the public. As international trade has increased, the need for
transnational accounting information has increased as well. This sparked the demand for development
of international accounting standards to make financial data between countries more comparable. In
1973, the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) was formed to develop these
international standards. The standards issued by the IASC, prior to 2001, were called International
Accounting Standards (IASs). In 2001, the IASC made the International Accounting Standards Board
(IASB) the official international standard setting body. The standards issued by the IASB are called
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) (Schroeder, Clark, Cathey, 2011, p. 82 87).
FASB and IASB Convergence The purpose of convergence by the two boards is to create a common
set of standards for use by both domestic and foreign entities to create internationally comparable
statements. The boards initially met in 2002 for a meeting known as the Norwalk

Health And Social Care Organisations
Within Health and social care organisations service providers have a legal duty of care to every
individual ensuring their care is a priority. There are many different key priorities which are essential
within healthcare settings and to the provision of services for those individuals with diseases, illnesses
or conditions. For example an individual s safety and security, mobility, hygiene, intellectual, social
and emotional needs are all priorities within a healthcare setting to ensure service users and service
providers feel comfortable and confident in providing and receiving high quality care which results in
good health outcomes. There are many approaches which can be taken to ensure these priorities are
maintained within health and social care organisations. This is to ensure every individuals safety and
quality care is of a high standard, for example approaches can be taken such as preventative measures,
understanding that there are different treatments available, and having an awareness of palliative care
and remedial care. Within my placement these priorities and approaches are of a huge importance to
the provision of services for people with diseases or illness, care and treatment must be provided to
suit each individual s needs.

The New Class Of Anti Diabetic Drugs
Abstract
Glitazones are the new class of anti diabetic drugs that are the first to be able to manage glycaemia
goals. Troglitazone was first approved for the market in 1997, but it was withdrawn from the market
by 2000. After the withdrawal of troglitazone, rosiglitazone and pioglitazone were introduced in 1999
as potentially safer alternatives. However, currently rosiglitazone is under black box warning for
increased risk of cardiovascular disease and pioglitazone is in a nutshell as the drug required more
investigation. In this review, the potential ability to predict the adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are
examined. If it is possible to predict ADRs, should it be done in the future.
Introduction
Millions of people worldwide are affected due to diabetes, 90% of them having type 2 diabetes
mellitus (non insulin dependent). Since 1921, drug therapy has been improved minutely and in 1950s
the antidiabetic sulphonamides and biguanides has been introduced. Therefore, the arrival of glitazone
or thiazolidinediones is an important event (14).
Thiazolidinediones are being developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin
resistance. Thiazolidinediones binds and activate the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ
(PPAR), a nuclear receptor that regulates the several genes which are involved in metabolism. The
PPAR γ controls lipid storage, insulin sensitization and adipocyte differentiation. Besides the
metabolic activities, thiazolidinediones also have

The mountain can be seen from Kennesaw Mountain (West), Amicalola Falls State Park (North), and

ballplayer I ever saw, but he was I shy fellow. I will tell you something else though. When Joe
DiMaggio enters the clubhouse, the lights flicker, he s the star. Joe DiMaggio was great baseball

The Yankees bought DiMaggio in 1936. That season a high school class in Cincinnati was asked to

Abraham Lincoln placed third.
During his career Joe DiMaggio played in nine World Series. In 1946, Rosalie DiMaggio died.

The book I read was called In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick. This book tells the story of
brave men on a whaling ship called the Essex who were lost at sea. It tells about how starvation,
dehydration, and how psychologically the human brain breaks down. This story is told from the third
person view explaining the lives of the men and the troubles they went through. This story is about 20
men who were lost at sea after their boat was destroyed by a feral whale. Many of these men were
nantucketers, spartans of the sea, but instead of killing men they killed whales. Nantucketers were
bred for hunting whales; it s almost a religion for the people of Nantucket Island. It is ironic that the

The Society Today, People Still Belittle Women And Treat...
Bruce Guu

Communication 412
5 May 2015
Theme Analysis In our society today, people still belittle women and treat them like second class
citizens. Women are just as important as men, if not better, and should be treated equally in society. I
do acknowledge the fact that we are living in a heternormative society put upon us in the United
States. As a heterosexual male, I see the bias, prejudice, and injustice that go toward gays, lesbians,
transgenders, and woman. Even though some say we are moving into a post feminism era, there is still
much that needs to be addressed and changed. Things such as equal pay for equal work, workplace
discrimination, and male generic language are some problems just to name a few. According to
Gendered Lives, sex discrimination is no longer a problem in the workplace, but they can t explain
why women earn less than men for equivalent jobs (2011). In addition, popular politicians such as
Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton are evidence that the playing field in politics is now level, but they
don t seem to realize that women only hold 17% of seats in the Senate and House of Representatives
(Bennetts, 2012). When speaking about feminism and what hardships women must endure, there is no
other book out there that describes it so detailed. The Second Sex by Simone De Beauvoir is a very
long manuscript about the hardships that women must face when living in a patriarchal society. It
starts off with the data and biology of women

Jon Krakauer s Into The Wild
Jon Krakauer loves to write about taking dangerous risks. He was born on April 12, 1954 in
Brookline, Massachusetts. When he was eight years old, he climbed Oregon s 10,000 foot South Sister
(Authors and Artist for Young Adults 1). At this young age, climbing and risk taking became part of
his life. Between his early dreams of Everest and his actual ascent of the mountain, Krakauer made
several other climbs that eventually led to a writing career (Authors and Artist for Young Adults 1).
Krakauer writes books to show the readers the outcome of taking a big risk. He illustrates the theme of
risk taking in the nonfiction stories, Into the Wild, Into Thin Air, and Where Men Win Glory. In

He walked with his bag full of supplies. It wasn t easy for him, but it made him happy to escape from

after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure, the climactic battle to kill the false

Alex was not fully prepared for what experiences laid ahead and did not think too thoroughly about

Alex did not think thoroughly about this because he was scared of water and Alaska is surrounded by

the poem develops. The poem talks mostly about a path of life that a person will choose and that they
will have to forever follow that path of life, because they can t change the past no matter how much
they try. In the end, once he s old, he might regret the decision and ponder if he made the right
decision, but he won t be able to do anything in the end because he is a realist. Although there are
many stanzas, the most important stanza is about two roads and how he must make a choice, but he is
unsure of which path he should take. Also, the poem develops in many ways through the attitude of
each stanza because he is dwelling on which path he will take. Between the first stanza to the fifth
stanza, it talks about how he is sorry for how he can t take both roads and that life is forcing him to
choose to go down a path. In the poem it states, And I looked down on as far as I could. To where it
bent in the undergrowth (Frost 4 5). This shows, that this was a monumental part of his life, but if he
chose the wrong path, he might regret it for the rest of his life, so he tries to see beyond, but the
undergrowth blocks his sight. The undergrowth is symbolic because it is about growth of trees and
shrubs like how he must take that path and see for himself what will lie in the end.

Castiglia And The Luciano Crime Family
Notorious mobster Frank the Prime Minister Costello headed the Luciano crime family, the most
powerful crime family in New York, from the mid 1930s until 1957. Francesco Castiglia was born in
Calabria, Italy in 1891. Arriving in New York City at the age of four with his immigrant parents,
Costello grew up in East Harlem. By age 13 he had become a member of the 104th street gang. They
were a group of young Italian hoodlums. He was eventually made head of the gang. In 1915 he went
to prison for a year for carrying a concealed weapon. On release Costello allied himself with Charles
Lucky Luciano. He abstained from using violence as a road to success and wealth, Costello claimed
that he never again carried a gun. In the 1920s they branched

Truffaut s Auteur Theory
For nearly the length of time that the film industry has existed, theorists have extensively speculated
about the authorship of film and who should receive credit for the creative capital that is created. In
the United States, as the executive studios in New York expanded and began to exert more control
over Hollywood, speculation emerged about how much control these studios had over the films being
produced. It was in the midst of this environment that auteur theory originated with French theorist
Truffaut s concept of politique de auteurs. Auteur theory argues that films are characterized by the
styles of their directors, who are the authors of the films. However, there are many other theories
about who should be credited as the authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main reason auteur theory is popular because it personalizes the author of films (in comparison to
the de humanization of saying that a big studio is responsible); however, this unnecessarily makes
directors into heroes that they aren t and celebrating them only as a more desirable alternative to the
studio explanation. Schatz points to multiple authors, mostly arguing against the director as author
focus of auteur theory; by rejecting auteur theory, he is advocating for broadening the scope to
consider the larger system by which films are produced. The closer we look at Hollywood s relations
of power and hierarchy of authority during the studio era, at its division of labor and assembly line
production process, the less sense it makes to assess filmmaking or film style in terms of the
individual director or any individual, for that matter (Schatz, 459). Films are not simply the product of
an individual s human expression, but a conglomerate of institutional forces. The style of any
individual a star, director, writer, costumer designer, light operator, or cinematographer fuses with the
studio s resources its staff, history, and institutional focus (genre, stars, etc.). He says that famous
examples which people cite to prove that the directors are the true authors of films (John

Completing All Of My Assignments For Writing
After completing all of my assignments for Writing 102, I have learned to manage my researching and
synthesizing skills in a different way. Furthermore, I now have a better understanding of what I should
include in my synthesizing process. After reviewing the learning objectives, I have found that
integrating evidence, synthesizing, and producing research based writing in context are now familiar
to me. When I had passed in my first synthesis, a lot of the feedback that was given to me was to
further evaluate my context. The revisions that were provided, gave me the chance to revaluate and
restructure my evidence for a stronger summary. In my opinion, synthesizing was the most important
duty in this course. It taught me how to closely match similar ideas together for a single analysis. It
was interesting to weave out information from one text and pair it with another. For example, in
Synthesis #1, I included both authors, Barbara Ehrenreich and Robert Reich. Ehrenreich s piece of
writing talked about the living conditions of a maid while Reich focused his work on sinking boats.
Even though each author talked about different circumstances, they both discussed income inequality.
Building my synthesizing skills was a major advantage to me. I can now express to works that have
similarities and differences.
Having a variety of examples that explain the same message in a different way is important to include.
This will influence readers in the point a writer is trying to make.

Building A Target Conformant And Flexible Enterprise...
Introduction: In order to build a target conformant and flexible Enterprise Architecture, and to put it in
a perspective, it is very important to analyse and visualize various academic and industrial frameworks
and comprehend and define its concepts. Various definitions describe different architectural processes,
systems, technologies, components and their relationships (Taleb et al, 2012a).The following section
discusses three industrial and three academic frameworks which provide different viewpoints of
Enterprise Architecture.

The importance of culture and organizational structure and the integration between them is discussed
in depth as well, in order to state the factors that need to be focused on for design of an enterprise.
Bernard has further elaborated on various organization models and scrutinized them to justify the
distinction between organization and enterprise. Associated risks and process of estimating the cost
and benefits are eventually explored, covering several important aspects of EA.
Evaluation
Enterprise Architecture is defined as a coherent whole of principles, methods, and models that are
used in the design and realization of an enterprise s organizational structure, business processes,
information systems, and infrastructure (Lankhorst et al, 2012). Over time, EA has become an integral
part of organization s strategy rather than being a mere guideline, (Vaidyanathan, 2005) motivating
organizations to design business aligned enterprise systems. The author s representation of EA as a
strategy, business and technology driven process and its meta disciplinary role thus seems accurately
described. Decisions taken are often incomplete without an adequate decision supporting frameworks
(Narman, 2012). Several organizations have adopted EA frameworks in order to maintain links with
other systems and ultimately create integrated systems, similar to building blocks that fit together
(Shah and Kourdi, 2007). The author s knowledge

ENERGY IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Abstract
This report discusses the role of energy in sustainable development goals. The report highlights on the
target set by the United Nations and the time frame given to achieve these targets. Some of the
challenges hindering sustainable development especially in the poor sections of the population and
measures needed to be taken have also been identified. It concludes with the primary principles and
basic practices needed to be taken in order to achieve the sustainable development goals.
Introduction
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland report, 1987). This really
emphasizes on the needs and the idea of limitations often related to the world s poor on how to bridge
the gap of needs and the environment (including climate) now and the future. Basically, it elaborates
on the equality of the life between the rich and the poor (that is, how the poor can be on par with the
rich) in terms of standard of living. Also, it draws attention to the use of green technologies in order to
build a better and brighter future. I believe this cannot be achieved easily, therefore the possibility of
achieving this can be very low, but with strong initiatives and plans, the bridge can be narrowed. An
effective tool for this can

Quotes In The Handmaids Tale
Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have
children by her ( Genesis 30:1 2). In the beginning of the science fiction novel, The Handmaid s Tale,
Margaret Atwood introduces her book with five different quotes. Every quote relates to what is going
to occur in the novel. Atwood uses this quote at the beginning of the novel to foreshadow that certain
characters in the novel will be forced to fulfill certain roles. In the novel, The Handmaid s Tale, the
actions of Offred and the willingness of people of Gilead to accede roles they are not satisfied with,
shows how fear of exile leads to destruction of morals. In the novel The Handmaid s Tale, Offred s

we discover that That is how Ofwarren did it (Atwood 205). Janine got pregnant from a doctor not her
Commander. Many women try to conceive this way because their Commander cannot have kids
anymore due to their age, it is forbidden to say something like this. Only The Handmaids are unable to

Life Today In The United States
Life today in the United States is proof that anyone can make change not only in their life, but in the
lives of millions. We all owe gratitude for the few that were willing to fight and call on the masses in
order to demand equal rights for us all. I believe that we live in a better society today than that of the
nineteen sixties. It is my opinion that civil rights have progressed and we live in a better time than
ever before. This is my belief, however I m certain that perspective all depends on what side of the
table that you sit on. I think that I can show you that we have evolved, even though we still have a
long way to go. But any progress no matter the degree is none the less still progress. There was no

Who Is The Protagonist Theoden
To break away from the traditional method of introducing a character through descriptions of physical
appearances and personal behaviour, the first impression of protagonist Theoden is formed through
associations linked to water and the colour blue as these themes are commonly referred to throughout
the tale. The blue, is both applied to provide simple detail of colour to the setting, however it is more
so to convey the emotional state of sadness, which is what it connotes. Theoden clearly suffers with
grief, and the setting is almost used as a tool of contrast for the character with his surroundings. The
moon and its far distanced companions ( here is a use of a metaphor, to depict the stars with a different
interpretation, ) illuminate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is yet again the mentioning of colour, in which the blue faded to black during the scene. The
effect of this simple detail is the first step towards the sudden change of the event, into an uneasy
situation that foreshadows the oncoming complications. Even so, the singing evolving into a tone of
sharper and darker melody reflects the water s changing atmosphere. Amaryllis develops relentless
behaviour as she pierces, claws and scrapes over Theoden s shrinking body , implicating he is
vulnerable and powerless, which can create some tension as the reader may experience concern as to
whether or not he shall survive. Overall, the singing and drastic change of Amaryllis from a beautiful
and radiant being to an utterly ruthless character, followed by the helplessness of Theoden parallels to
the Greek myths of Sirens and Sailors, which is the form of what my stimulus text was written

The Various Eras Of The Civil War
The civil war was a grave cause of many events. Many people may see the results of the war as a
chain reaction to many following eras. One of the most prominent eras that emerged from the civil war
was the reconstruction era. The reconstruction era emerged around 1865 and continued until 1877.
This time period generally refers to the time in United States history in which the federal government
set the conditions that would allow the rebellious Southern states back into the Union. The States were
divided into the Union (North) and Confederacy (South).

The Russian Transitional Economy Essay
SBEJ review paper Comments to the Author The paper tackles an important and interesting topic such
as Barriers to Entrepreneurship. The context of investigation in the Russian transitional economy adds
value to the paper too. However, here are some of the major comments 1. The original element of the
paper is use of use of Double Bind Situation (DBS) theory to explain the entrepreneurial behavior in
an extreme environment of transition. In particular, the paper does greater in terms of addressing the
interactions of entrepreneurs and state individuals using DBST. Use of this theory to explain
entrepreneurial behavior is important contribution to the field. 2. The review of entrepreneurship
literature dealing with barriers is very brief. Author(s) should discuss more critically this literature by
pointing some limitations. For example, paper argues that several authors have conceived of barriers
as static while there is no discussion of some recent studies that use panel data technique, add dynamic
component in their analysis, and of course overcome some of limitations of previous cross sectional
studies. The studies, analysis in the theoretical part are based on the cross sectional. 3. Data and
method needs some more careful details and discussion. First, there is no clear discussion how the
sample of qualitative interviews was selected. This is very critical for implications of the study and its
limitations. 4. Author(s) claim that businesses for the study were either

World History

Rembrandt van Rijn People consider the Dutch painter and etcher, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn,
an important figure in Dutch history. He achieved success at a very early age but had personal
tragedies and financial hardships in his later years. Many are familiar with Rembrandt s reputation.
Rembrandt s works show his greatest accomplishments. Mainly his childhood and home life
influenced his works. Steadfastly, Rembrandt van Rijn, the greatest Dutch portrait painter of all time,
revealed his brilliance by creating realistic masterpieces of poor, working class subjects, and the ones
he loved and lost.

Unfortunately, Rembrandt faced financial difficulties as well that he never paid attention but would
later affect him. After Saskia gave birth to four children, only the last one, Titus, survived to grow up.
Many believe that the birth of Titus explained Saskia s fatal illness. On June 14, 1642, Saskia van
Ulenborch died when Titus was only a year old. Five days later, she was buried in the Oude Kerk. In
the 1640s, Rembrandt van Rijn hired Hendrickje Stoffels as his servant that later became his mistress
after the death of Saskia. Yet, he could not marry Hendrickje or else he would have lost the income
from Saskia s part of the estate. Hendrickje played Saskia s role in all but name (White 129).
Hendrickje and Titus became models in numerous works of Rembrandt. Rembrandt and his new
partner soon had a girl named Cornelia. In 1653, Rembrandt began to face trouble, the worst year of
the economic depression caused by the First Anglo Dutch War. The war almost led to a financial
collapse in Amsterdam. Rembrandt owed money for his house, paid no interest on the exorbitant
amount for the past five years, and had let the original owner pay the taxes on the house for the past
three years. Rembrandt van Rijn sold many of his possessions to pay off his debt. He finally left his
house and moved into a simpler one on the other side of the city, Jordaan. In July of 1663, Hendrickje
Stoffels died. Many say that the plague could have

  • 6. Women s Role During The American Revolution Solomon devoted some consideration to political issues. Women s role was continually questioned during the American Revolution, when women expressed competency in many roles. While some females joined the war as undercover spies or soldiers, other women established activist groups to protest, campaign and raise funds. Solomon considers this war to be the opportunity for women to demonstrate their abilities in public and private spheres that could have implications in the latter movements. After the revolution, more women were contemplating their suppositional capacity to develop and elevate individually and subjectively. The prevailing stereotype at the time was daughters to be notable as housewives upholding the colonial tradition of piety, modesty, frugality, and fertility. This mindset laid the foundation to slow the progress to reshape the female status after the revolution. Although the revolution expended constitutional advancements on voting, marriage and divorce, not all the republic benefited the new laws. Of note, New Jersey passed a law in 1787 that gave the right to all inhabitant of the proper age and property qualifications to choose and vote, until an election fraud causing the law to take a step back to its original parameters, allowing only white male at the age of twenty one with money and clear estate to vote. • 7. Comback of Steroids in Sport By the end of the 21st century steroids will be permitted in every professional sport. Professional sports can put as many limitations on what athletes can take but it will never be enough. Many athletes will have enough money to overcome these limitations. They may still get caught with the drugs but they have enough money to control the media so people won t see what they did. There is only one way to level the playing field. The only way is to make steroids legal in professional sports. In the article, Why it s Time to Legalize Steroids in Professional Sports by Chris Smith, he says, Not only would the playing field suddenly be even for all players, it would be at a higher level. I think that this is exactly true. Legalizing steroids would make the sports more entertaining. Athletes in the sport will be able to play at a higher level. Chris Smith also said, It also makes sense for professional sports to allow steroids from a business standpoint. People will pay more money to watch the upper level athletes perform. If steroids were legal it would make drug stores more money because more people would be buying steroids. Not only will the legalization of steroids benefit the sport, it will benefit other businesses as well. Athletes will have a choice of if they want to do steroids or not. There are many side effects of using steroids. One of the side effects is that the body will stop producing natural testosterone. The next side effect is that steroids cause ... High Turnover Is Tactical Work Analysis Entry Phase According to Robinson and Robinson (2008), the issue of high turnover is tactical work because it focuses on the design and implementation of solutions that address the barriers to successful performance (p. 19). This tactical work can be reframed to focus on lowering the turnover rate of engineers so that half the engineers stay with the company and do not quit within the first two years and as a result, innovative products are produced. Therefore, more knowledge is gained through questionnaires sent prior to personal interviews. The next factor is to seek answers as to the current state of work accomplished by engineers in the gap analysis to identify strengths and weaknesses in frequency and skill levels. An IS assessment focuses does not focus on the star employees or the managers, but on the group of engineers. Barriers and signs of inefficiency indicate gap areas of needed improvement. Again, questionnaires may gain insight as to how the engineers do their jobs and comparisons can be made to the star employees and managers. It is advisable to interview the managers of the average engineering groups in addition to questionnaires to yield more valuable data. Two sources of data is adequate and within reason in regard to time and budget constraints. Questionnaires are a good start because of the direct information sought and interviews allow for follow up questions and more detailed data. It is important that employees are provided confidentiality agreements and given the option on whether or not to participate. A Likert scale allows for easy computations of the questionnaires, because the low numbers indicate failures and the high numbers mean successes. The last assessment involves identifying the causes in order to seek solutions. The data retrieved from the questionnaires and interviews provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Student Can Use Memory Concepts That Will Improve... Having memories impacts our lives greatly without them society would not be as it is today. According to Grison, Heatherton, and Gazzaniga(2015), memory is the capacity to acquire and retain information and skills. Not all experiences will be equally remembered, some events will leave no memory, others will be remembered but later forgotten, and other times a memory can be remembered for a lifetime. I will be looking into how student can use memory concepts that will improve student s grades if they follow it correctly. And also talk about my personal study habits and how I can improve them so I can get a more positive result in my classes. There are three phases of memory; which are encoding, storage, and retrieval. According to Calvillo (2014); encoding is the processing of information so that it can be stored, storage is the retention of encoded representations over time, and lastly retrieval is the act of recalling or remembering stored information when it is needed. When students use these three phases in school properly it will lead to success in their academic career but if they just do minimal preparation and cut corners it will lead to a stressful time for the student. For example in the encoding process a good student would reread a section until they familiarize themselves with the new information. A bad student would just go over a section once and just keep on going on to new information even though they have not familiarized themselves with the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Presently, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) are faced with some of the biggest challenges to date. The works of the APB were known as APB Opinions. The APB was criticized as well, so the AICPA appointed two committees, from whose recommendations the FASB was founded in 1973 (Schroeder, Clark, Cathey, 2011, p. 5 9). International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) As stated earlier, the IASB arose from specific needs of the accounting industry and the public. As international trade has increased, the need for transnational accounting information has increased as well. This sparked the demand for development of international accounting standards to make financial data between countries more comparable. In 1973, the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) was formed to develop these international standards. The standards issued by the IASC, prior to 2001, were called International Accounting Standards (IASs). In 2001, the IASC made the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) the official international standard setting body. The standards issued by the IASB are called International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) (Schroeder, Clark, Cathey, 2011, p. 82 87). FASB and IASB Convergence The purpose of convergence by the two boards is to create a common set of standards for use by both domestic and foreign entities to create internationally comparable statements. • 13. The New Class Of Anti Diabetic Drugs Abstract Glitazones are the new class of anti diabetic drugs that are the first to be able to manage glycaemia goals. Troglitazone was first approved for the market in 1997, but it was withdrawn from the market by 2000. After the withdrawal of troglitazone, rosiglitazone and pioglitazone were introduced in 1999 as potentially safer alternatives. However, currently rosiglitazone is under black box warning for increased risk of cardiovascular disease and pioglitazone is in a nutshell as the drug required more investigation. In this review, the potential ability to predict the adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are examined. If it is possible to predict ADRs, should it be done in the future. Introduction Millions of people worldwide are affected due to diabetes, 90% of them having type 2 diabetes mellitus (non insulin dependent). Since 1921, drug therapy has been improved minutely and in 1950s the antidiabetic sulphonamides and biguanides has been introduced. Therefore, the arrival of glitazone or thiazolidinediones is an important event (14). Thiazolidinediones are being developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance. Thiazolidinediones binds and activate the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPAR), a nuclear receptor that regulates the several genes which are involved in metabolism. The PPAR γ controls lipid storage, insulin sensitization and adipocyte differentiation. Besides the metabolic activities, thiazolidinediones also have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Society Today, People Still Belittle Women And Treat... Bruce Guu Raven Pfister Communication 412 5 May 2015 Theme Analysis In our society today, people still belittle women and treat them like second class citizens. Women are just as important as men, if not better, and should be treated equally in society. I do acknowledge the fact that we are living in a heternormative society put upon us in the United States. As a heterosexual male, I see the bias, prejudice, and injustice that go toward gays, lesbians, transgenders, and woman. Even though some say we are moving into a post feminism era, there is still much that needs to be addressed and changed. Things such as equal pay for equal work, workplace discrimination, and male generic language are some problems just to name a few. According to Gendered Lives, sex discrimination is no longer a problem in the workplace, but they can t explain why women earn less than men for equivalent jobs (2011). In addition, popular politicians such as Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton are evidence that the playing field in politics is now level, but they don t seem to realize that women only hold 17% of seats in the Senate and House of Representatives (Bennetts, 2012). When speaking about feminism and what hardships women must endure, there is no other book out there that describes it so detailed. The Second Sex by Simone De Beauvoir is a very long manuscript about the hardships that women must face when living in a patriarchal society. It starts off with the data and biology of women ... The Path Of Life In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken In the poem, The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, as the poem advances, the author s attitude and choices are revealed as the poem develops. The poem is all about choices and what his attitude is as the poem develops. The poem talks mostly about a path of life that a person will choose and that they will have to forever follow that path of life, because they can t change the past no matter how much they try. In the end, once he s old, he might regret the decision and ponder if he made the right decision, but he won t be able to do anything in the end because he is a realist. Although there are many stanzas, the most important stanza is about two roads and how he must make a choice, but he is unsure of which path he should take. Also, the poem develops in many ways through the attitude of each stanza because he is dwelling on which path he will take. Between the first stanza to the fifth stanza, it talks about how he is sorry for how he can t take both roads and that life is forcing him to choose to go down a path. In the poem it states, And I looked down on as far as I could. To where it bent in the undergrowth (Frost 4 5). This shows, that this was a monumental part of his life, but if he chose the wrong path, he might regret it for the rest of his life, so he tries to see beyond, but the undergrowth blocks his sight. The undergrowth is symbolic because it is about growth of trees and shrubs like how he must take that path and see for himself what will lie in the end. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Truffaut s Auteur Theory For nearly the length of time that the film industry has existed, theorists have extensively speculated about the authorship of film and who should receive credit for the creative capital that is created. In the United States, as the executive studios in New York expanded and began to exert more control over Hollywood, speculation emerged about how much control these studios had over the films being produced. It was in the midst of this environment that auteur theory originated with French theorist Truffaut s concept of politique de auteurs. Auteur theory argues that films are characterized by the styles of their directors, who are the authors of the films. However, there are many other theories about who should be credited as the authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason auteur theory is popular because it personalizes the author of films (in comparison to the de humanization of saying that a big studio is responsible); however, this unnecessarily makes directors into heroes that they aren t and celebrating them only as a more desirable alternative to the studio explanation. Schatz points to multiple authors, mostly arguing against the director as author focus of auteur theory; by rejecting auteur theory, he is advocating for broadening the scope to consider the larger system by which films are produced. The closer we look at Hollywood s relations of power and hierarchy of authority during the studio era, at its division of labor and assembly line production process, the less sense it makes to assess filmmaking or film style in terms of the individual director or any individual, for that matter (Schatz, 459). Films are not simply the product of an individual s human expression, but a conglomerate of institutional forces. The style of any individual a star, director, writer, costumer designer, light operator, or cinematographer fuses with the studio s resources its staff, history, and institutional focus (genre, stars, etc.). Furthermore, I now have a better understanding of what I should include in my synthesizing process. After reviewing the learning objectives, I have found that integrating evidence, synthesizing, and producing research based writing in context are now familiar to me. When I had passed in my first synthesis, a lot of the feedback that was given to me was to further evaluate my context. The revisions that were provided, gave me the chance to revaluate and restructure my evidence for a stronger summary. In my opinion, synthesizing was the most important duty in this course. It taught me how to closely match similar ideas together for a single analysis. It was interesting to weave out information from one text and pair it with another. For example, in Synthesis #1, I included both authors, Barbara Ehrenreich and Robert Reich. Ehrenreich s piece of writing talked about the living conditions of a maid while Reich focused his work on sinking boats. Even though each author talked about different circumstances, they both discussed income inequality. Building my synthesizing skills was a major advantage to me. I can now express to works that have similarities and differences. Having a variety of examples that explain the same message in a different way is important to include. This will influence readers in the point a writer is trying to make. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT ENERGY IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS Abstract This report discusses the role of energy in sustainable development goals. The report highlights on the target set by the United Nations and the time frame given to achieve these targets. Some of the challenges hindering sustainable development especially in the poor sections of the population and measures needed to be taken have also been identified. It concludes with the primary principles and basic practices needed to be taken in order to achieve the sustainable development goals. Introduction Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland report, 1987). This really emphasizes on the needs and the idea of limitations often related to the world s poor on how to bridge the gap of needs and the environment (including climate) now and the future. Basically, it elaborates on the equality of the life between the rich and the poor (that is, how the poor can be on par with the rich) in terms of standard of living. Also, it draws attention to the use of green technologies in order to build a better and brighter future. I believe this cannot be achieved easily, therefore the possibility of achieving this can be very low, but with strong initiatives and plans, the bridge can be narrowed.
