How Did The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire occurred on the 25 March 1911. In the Asch building, on
the eighth, ninth, and tenth floor there were around 500 workers present. To avoid theft all the
doors on the floors was locked, except one.The door that was unlocked happened to be
surrounded by fire so there was no escape. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was owned by Max
Blanck and Isaac Harris. These factories specialized in making women s blouses. Women that
worked there were mainly European and Jewish immigrants that were trying to make some money.
Since they made that decision they were faced with poverty and horrible working conditions. The
immigrants also had to suffer through a new language and that made them an easy target for people

The Terrorist Group Called Isis
Terrorist Blood I was known as a useless addition to the CIA. I really never received any major
cases.Until the day that I heard of the terrorist group called ISIS. I had from the whispers of
fellow coworkers that there was a secret website in the deep web that recruits members to the
terrorist group, but no one has reported being able to access the site. I did remember back to my
adolescent years that I did have a bit of experience with hacking as well as navigating the deep
web. So, I attempted for weeks effortlessly trying to scavenge the deep web for that website, and
finally 2 weeks later I had found the the site, it seemed very shady and had a black background
with the videos of every event that created by ISIS even the reporter... Show more content on

On our way there we had seen several attack helicopters, I am guessing it s an attack helicopter
company that makes them. So I had an idea to go and try to steal one. The only tough part about
infiltrating the company was that you had to have an employee badge. We needed a way to
disguise ourselves. So, what we did was gather a bunch of old twigs and green leaves and
disguised ourselves as bushes, and as we saw two employees come by we knocked them out
behind the bush using a tranquilizer and hid them behind our bush so we could snatch their
identification card. Once that was done we had scanned the card into the metallic scanner, and
tried to blend with the other workers as much as possible. In the front office we were asked our
position, and I responded with
Helicopter cleaner? With a nervous look.
Alright! Just remember to not wet the engine, was what the blonde secretary (lady) with a lot of
acne said.
We had entered the helicopter maintenance room and you could see many military helicopters,
there were so many to choose from the Sikorsky R 4 to the much newer UH 60 Black Hawk. All
of these helicopters were lined up in a vast room. All together It seemed like there was around
eleven helicopters in the entire room! There were many black helicopters and there was even a
dark blue and green helicopter. In the end we had decided to take the Mi 24. It was a large and
bulky helicopter with a good amount of weapons.Right when I started

Sanisera Research Paper
Sanisera (Menorca) Sanitja bay, located on the northern coast of the island of Menorca, is home
to a Roman fort and Sanisera. The bay was originally only open to the Roman military but later
opened to trades around the time Sanisera was established. Unlike Pollentia, Sanisera was one of
the only Roman sites not constructed on top of an indigenous site. The lack of modern
construction over Sanisera has made it possible to undertake an extensive excavation of both sites.
The first phase of excavations focused primarily on the fort with some surveys of the city, the
current phase of the excavation of Sanitja began in 1992 (Sa Nitja 1996). Throughout both
excavation phases, there has also been a lot of focus on the various shipwrecks in the bay.

Environmental Inequality In The 1970 s
Introduction The atmosphere of the 1950s to 1970s can be described as a time of intense turmoil
in American history. In the 1960s there was a change in the way people viewed the environment
and what as a nation they were doing to destroy it. Women again rose up to combat oppression
inequality during the 1960s, as they have done in the past before. The Civil Rights came with a
powerful force of change for the minorities of the United Statesand paved the way for other
Movement to arise. In the trying times of the chaotic 1950 s to 1970s three of the most influential
movements of their time emerged, the Environmental Movement, Women s Movement, and the
Civil Rights movement, all would go onto changing the American way of life.
Environmental Movement Just like the bald eagle the American way of life in the 1960s was
killing America and the animal in the environment. Chemical sprayed in the air to ward off bugs
like DDT was contaminating the water supply, killing the fish and harming the animals who drank
from it. So in the mid 60s Congress passed a law prohibiting the use of DDT in the United States.
As news of America s environmental arose the public began to organise small environment
movements which played a big role in attracting the attention of the government, which passed the

Such as the case of inequality in the social aspect, the workforce, and educational fields. The
serotype of the 1950s was that the women were to get married, become housewives, and raise a

stereotype and allow women to be empowered to live their own life. They passed anti
discrimination bills in congress to allow women to more easily get jobs and expand their feminist
movement.

Antigone, Star Wars, and the Good Life
Sophocles s play Antigone promotes a good life that, through careful analysis, is very similar to
the Stoic theory of the good life. Antigone is a story about the members of the ancient Theban
aristocracy vying for control of themselves and others; however, in its core it contains an
exploration of the good life, that is trying to investigate what values will allow one to get what
they want out of life. A group of philosophers, also of Greek origin, produced a theory of this
topic; this group of thinkers is called the Stoics. Concerning the good life they had two main
values, from which they believe a good life can originate. The first of the two is finding
happiness from inner resources, or trying not to depend on things around you such as wealth or
adventure to give you a sense of happiness. The second facet is that of not worrying about things
that are out of your control, as there is no use. Antigone brings to stage these topics, and shows
characters who either live according to them, and exit with a good life, and others who deny
these, and end the play living in a bad life. Therefore the play shows through example, that Stoic
values will lead to a positive way of living, and living against the values will lead to you not
getting everything out of life. The two main characters in this tragedy are Creon, the king of
Thebes, and uncle of the other character Antigone, the daughter of the last king of the same city
Thebes. Creon does not live according to the values of

Comparing Beowulf And The Invincible Superman
Hero, is a word that can be distinguished so in many ways. When people think of a hero they
imagine the military, comic book characters, or someone who has greatly affected their life. While
reading Beowulf people can realize why he was a hero to the Geats and Danes. From the beginning
of the epic Beowulfshows the characteristics of generosity, loyalty, and bravery representing all the
qualifications of a heroduring the 6th century. Although originally untitled, it was later named after
the Scandinavian hero Beowulf, whose exploits and character offer its connecting theme ,

Phillips Curve Methodology Is Used On An Information Set...
Abstract
In a creating nation like Pakistan, Phillips Curve methodology is utilized on an information set of
35 years. Phillips Curve helps in analyzing the relationship in the middle of inflation and
unemployment. There is a non relative negative relationship in the middle of inflation and
unemployment (if unemployment is decreased than there is a rising value level in the economy).
There is a long run and easygoing relationship in the middle of inflation and unemployment over the
above mentioned period in Pakistan. There is a momentary relationship (stuns) in the short run,
while there is a lasting relationship (stuns) over the long run. By taking a look at the relationship
built, one can estimate for next 10 years, that there will be a reverse relationship between both
variables. This paper records an inflation insignificantly influences GDP and unemployment and the
correlation is negative, exact confirmation for the presence of the Phillips Curve in Pakistan i.e.,
inflation has reduced unemployment.

Negativity Bias In News And Media
News and media, specifically the language used by news and media outlets, has a very real effect
on our consciousnesses and therefore our actions as a society. Negativity bias is very real and
has a substantial effect on our overall world outlook. Similarly, how article titles are phrased
drastically sways what information we retain and which articles we choose to read. It has been
shown in various studies that subtle misinformation and so called, alternative facts lead to an
overall shift in our consciousness as a society. Therefore, both news and media have a significant
impact on our beliefs and mindset overall as a society through the employment of negativity bias,
the specific phrasing of articles and their titles, and deliberate subtle misinformation to the public.
Negativity bias is the concept that even when of equal intensity, things of a more negative nature
have a greater effect on our psychological state and process than do positive or neutral thoughts.
Examples of this include, unpleasant thought, harmful or traumatic experiences, and negative
emotions, especially fear. This concept can be seen on a variety of platforms but is most evident
in combat veterans, victims of violent or especially traumatic events, and, surprisingly, journalists.
When we hear of PTSD we expect an image of a veteran, or a victim or some violent event like
rape, seeing their parents die horribly, being a victim of a mass shooting, etc.. Yet, journalists are
more likely to become

Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Analysis
Importance of Name and Remember in Dante s Inferno and Beowulf
One of the important themes that stands out in Dante s epic poem, Inferno , is a theme of legacy
via endurance of one s name. In other words, the human need to have one s name and story shared
with others in an effort to gain some sense of immortality. Even from the depths of hell the
characters in the Inferno express a wish to have their stories told. The Inferno tells of Dante s
adventure through the depths of Hell with the spirit of the great Roman poet Virgilas his guide. In
this epic adventure, Dante treks the Nine Circles of Hell and in each circle he encounters
prominent figures in both his personal life and in history. The poem as a whole is a commentary
on sins and transgressions, but the significance of these transgressions are amplified with the
attachment of names we the readers recognize from history and literature. Among them are
figures one would expect to be Hell for their famous transgressions such as Judas Iscariot, Attila
the Hun and Brutus but also more surprisingly Ulysses, the hero from Homer s Iliad and Odyssey,
who is in the Eighth Circle of Hell for the crime of spiritual theft and Pope Celestine V, whom
Dante condemns for abdicating the papacy and thus allowed Pope Boniface VIII to become the new
pope. This was a transgression worthy of hell in Dante s eyes because historically Pope Boniface
VIII was something of a rival to Dante, who had been an advocate for the separation of

The Scottsboro Trials Essay
The Scottsboro Trials Racism wasted the lives of nine young, black men. In a trial where the
only plausible evidence proved their innocence, they were still convicted. They were accused of
rape, but all it was was an accusation. There was nothing to back it up. They endured many trials
almost all of which had prejudice juries. This is the story of nine young men who had little, and
then had everything taken away from them. On March 24, 1931, nine black youths were accused
of raping two white girls; Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. There was only one of them who was not
in his teens, Charlie Weems. Ozie Powell and Clarence Norris were both slender, but muscular and
healthy. Olen Montgomery was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The others had knives. According to Victoria they began to fight the white boys. They apparently
yelled Unload you white sons of bitches , making them jump out of the train. Victoria continued
her testimony saying; the Negroes held knives to the girls throats and raped them. When the white
boys were thrown off of the train they alerted the Stevenson stationmaster that a group of Negroes
and two white girls were on the train. He immediately informed authorities and the boys tied
together and arrested at the next station. Later, George Chamlee, One of the representatives for
the International Labor Defense at the Scottsboro trials, investigated to see if the girls had made
the charges before the boys were arrested. He claimed that these girls just gave in to the
assumptions that the authorities had when they arrested the Negroes. There is no way of proving
this conclusively, but from the interview I had with the two girls separately several weeks after the
trial, I would say that there is a strong possibility of truth in this. (Ransdell, Plausibility of the
Charges Questioned). When the press interviewed the Negroes, they all remained silent except to
deny assaulting the girls. Except Roy Wright who kept insisting that he and his three friends, the
only ones of the group he d ever met, were innocent. He said that the others attacked the

Anne Bradstreet And Edwards Compare And Contrast
Through the fiery depths of Anne Bradstreet s burning home and the intensity of god s hands from
Jonathan Edwards. The Puritanism way is highly respected. Throughout Anne Bradstreet s poem
from 1612 1672 she talks about her life and how her house is suddenly burning down. As her
mind tosses around she starts to explain things about her life to herself. She realizes the positive
things in life. She wants to make it known that god is good to her and no matter what she will
always have a home and that being a Puritanmeans that god is there for her. Anne Bradstreetis very
similar to Jonathan Edwards because as he writes he talks about how being a Puritan will save
you and that not following god is the wrong choice because by following god you are safe and
that god is so powerful that if you do anything wrong by him you shall be punished. These stories
are similar but also different in many ways.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both talk about how great he is and how powerful he is. They both strongly believe in what
the powerful god is capable of. Both Bradstreet and Edwards have similar writing styles and are
strong believers of what people should do and shouldn t do. As Bradstreet s house is burning
she expresses how she feels. As she thinks about what is happening she talks about it, when she
feels like she is being selfish she tells herself to remember that no matter what she will always
have a home and that she shouldn t think that way because even without her home she s at least
still alive and that eventually she will get everything back. As for Edwards he expresses that god
s hands are like fire because how powerful he is. God is perfect and although he is perfect he can
still get angry with people that make poor choices. He wants to encourage other Puritans to do
what is right because god can punish for anything that is wrong. Both describe the power of

The Social Justice Issues Of The Media Of A White Officer...
Throughout the past couple of years there have been many social justice issues coming to the
forefront of everyone s attention. Some of the most popular examples include Baltimore, Ferguson
and Charleston, although there are countless other ones spread throughout the country. These are
some of the most popular ones because of how much media attention they received, but was all that
attention really a good thing? I believe that while these issues needed to be brought to everyone s
attention, the way that the media portrayed the situations did not help too much, it may have even
hindered these issues. The way that the media portrayed certain groups of people further led to
feelings or personal justification of racismand oppression. In... Show more content on

Many of the people in Ferguson felt that this young man was fatally shot based off the color of his
skin, and that this would not have happened if he was white. In fact, there is a large amount of
African American individuals who believe that officers are morally bankrupt (Mcwhorter, 2014).
This position is taken by countless communities across America (Mcwhorter 2014).
This plays a huge role in how the environment affected this man s life. If there had not have been
so much racial tension happening in Ferguson then this situation probably would never have
happened, or at least to the extent that it happened. Mistrust of law enforcement leads to many
issues such as even greater issues with the police when problems arise due to troubled history
with them. African Americans in this community may not want to ask law enforcement for help
when they are the leading group of arrests and longest prison sentences (Madrigal, 2014). The
officer fatally shooting this young man was the last straw for a fair amount of people in this town.
I believe that if the officer was doing what he believed was right, and not making judgements on
the young man for the color of his skin, then he was just doing his job and it turned out to be a
horrible situation. With all the differing stories that are taking place in the media surrounding that
aspect of it this will be a hard situation to fully comprehend. There are obviously undercurrents

Differences Of The Italian Renaissance And The Northern...
talian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance
Differences Between The Two
The Renaissance was a period of great cultural and technological changes that swept Europe from
the end of the 13th century. It was integral in developing Europe into a powerhouse. Although, each
part of Europe was subjected to different changes, there were two primary renaissances, which were
most notable. They were the Italian and the Northern renaissance. Both of these renaissances had a
profound impact on Europe. But they also had some typical differences among them and each was
unique in its own way.
Italian Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance was a period of great cultural changes and achievement throughout Europe.
It spanned from the end of the 13th century up to about the 1600 s. It marked the transition of
Europe from the medieval period to the Early Modern Europe. The term renaissance is a modern
term that was coined by historians many years after the Renaissance had already ended.
Although the origins of the Italian Renaissance can be traced to many different locations, it is
important to note that different aspects of Italian culture and society remained largely medieval
during the time of the Renaissance; the Renaissance did not come into full swing until the end of
the century. The word Renaissance means rebirth , and the era is best known for the renewed
interest in the culture of classical antiquity (Greece and Rome) after the period that Renaissance
humanists labeled the Dark Ages. These changes, while significant, were concentrated in the elite,
and for the vast majority of the population life was little changed from the Middle Ages.
The Italian Renaissance is best known for its cultural achievements credited to writers, poets,
artists, sculptors, and Renaissance Men (or women!). Figures such as Petrarch (The Father of
Humanism ), Leonardo da Vinci (The ideal Renaissance Man known for the Mona Lisa, the
Vitruvian Man, and many more creations!), Raphael (known for his painting, The School of
Athens.), Dante Alleghri (known for his work, The Divine Comedy.), and
many more are significant characters of this era and movement that contribute significantly.

What Is Transnational Organized Crime
Transnational organized crime has become a significant danger facing all countries, whether
developed or developing nations. Despite this incredible danger to modern countries, organized
crime is not a new phenomenon. History is filled with stories of past mafia groups whether Italian,
Russian, or American but the risks during the mid nineteenth century were lower and were
concentrated in specific countries or regions.
Now, organized crime has become a threat to security and stability at the international level. This
crime may lead to the weakening of economic, social, and cultural institutions of countries. Further,
it may cause the loss of confidence in the democratic process and impact those who have political
power. Achieving monetary

In the book, Becoming Modern: Young Women and the Reconstruction of Womanhood in the 1920s
, author Birgitte Soland discusses the changes that historians saw with women post World War I.
Quoting these historians, Soland writes:
Once women had been let out of the cage and permitted to demonstrate their talents and
capabilities in the labor market during wartime, the spell of female domesticity was broke, and it
took a powerful mixture of ideological campaigns and coercive political measures to restore the
sexual division of labor after 1918 (Soland, 2002).
Women stopped kneeling at the feet of their husbands and tending to the man s every need. They
began standing up for the rights they deserved. Although women did not become equal to men,
they did earn the right to vote and work in the 20s. The rise of hemlines and drop of the waistline
may have been a reflection of their push to become their own people. With all of this change,
women began to gain more self confidence, leading to a change in views on fashions. Looking at
the amount that clothing changed in the 1920s leads to an idea that women may have found power
in the things they

Upon reviewing the drama, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it would appear that
the character of Blanche DuBois is worthy of closer inspection. With her previous occupation as a
teacher of American literature and her former social status being that of a well bred woman of the
very traditional Old South, Blanche could be any human being transferring from one culture to
another with customs far different from the ones being left behind. Even today it could happen that

Blanche depends on manner, on affected little girl innocence, to sustain her (Hirsch 33). That is
quite evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her
sister lives with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before
the end of the spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong
with Blanche. In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are
antagonist and protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche
and now summoning up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche
(Londre 47).
In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves
(Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for

Belonging Involves Conforming and a Loss of Identity -...
The foundation of belonging is often associated with the loss of a person s individuality. Indeed, as
the construction of one s identity is highly intricate and ever changing, several authorities often
considers its development to be associated with our relationships. From this, it can be shown that
belonging can be associated with the degradation of one s identity. Such impact can be explained
through the reality that in order to belong, we must share similar characteristics or identity with that
group however this can involve enhancing character s identity. Nonetheless, due to its complexities,
for some, belonging can threaten a person s identity and individuality. In order to belong we must

Teenagers however are often ostracized for being different and this results to the conformity of
many children and the foreclosing on uniqueness and individuality. In cases of children,
belonging is usually not associated with the degradation of identity. This may not be the case
with older people as it is a lot more complicated and sometimes conforming may be the only way
to belong. We must consider times at which belonging can threaten an individualised identity.
For some, the only way to belong is to conform to expectations, losing personal ideologies as a
result. In the book The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian, Junior is a perfect example of
conforming in order to belong. Junior is just a poor Indian reservation kid who dreams of a
better life and takes action by attending an all white private school in Reardan. He is considered
as a traitor by his people and doesn t find much hope when somewhere on the road to Reardan,
[he] became something less than Indian. And once [he] arrived at Reardan, [he] became
something less than less than less than Indian. Junior struggle to fit is exacerbated when the
Indian people where he once belonged no longer accepts him as he has left them for the white
people. The trouble is, he didn t belong in the all white school either as his life [was] a constant

Satyagraha Essay
Mahatma Gandhi used the term Satyagraha to refer to a kind of active but absolutely non violent
resistance to oppression. In his words:
Truth (satya) implies love, and firmness (agraha) engenders and therefore serves as a synonym for
force. I thus began to call the Indian movement Satyagraha, that is to say, the Force which is born
of Truth and Love or non violence, and gave up the use of the phrase passive resistance , in
connection with it, so much so that even in English writing we often avoided it and used instead

Preparation for Life in Peace: The Role of Youth
Statement to the International Year of Peace Seminar for the Asia, Pacific and Western Asia Regions
Bangkok,Thailand
20 24 May, 1985
The BahГЎ Г International Community would like to make a few comments on the significant
ways in which youth, with its idealism and energy, can help fulfill the aim of the Charter of the
United Nations to establish universal peace; and to suggest that the International Year of Peace
Secretariat give special attention in its proposed programme for IYP to the ways in which young
people can, through their creativity and drive, not only be seized with the vision of a world society
incorporating the rich diversity of human characteristics and cultures, but also recognize their most
valuable role in achieving world unity and world peace.
Drawing on the experience of BahГЎ Г youth from over 2000 ethnic backgrounds in more than 160
independent countries, the BahГЎ Г International Community suggests the following ways in
which youth can hasten to bring about a lasting world peace and build a world civilization: I. By

Christopher Novan s Use Of Narrative Structure In Memento
In Christopher Nolan s 2001 neo noir psychological thriller, Memento, he explores the idea of trust
through a unique narrative structure. The film explores trust through the protagonist, Leonard
Shelby and his interactions with characters, Natalie and Teddy in his hunt for the man who raped
his wife. The structure of the filmis split into two parts: colour scenes (the main plot line) and
black and white scenes (the sub plot line). Nolan alternates between the two; however, the colour
scenes are shown backwards in time, from Leonard s point of view, in first person; and the black
and whites scenes are told forwards in a documentary style with just voice over and simple images.
The start of the film opens with a scene literally shown backwards, which makes the audience
aware of the structure of the way the story will be told. There is repetition within the colour
scenes, when one colour scenes starts it is the end of the next one. The use of this makes the
audience rethink everything they have been told in the previous scene. This adds the effect of
watching the film how Leonard would perceive it. The main ... Show more content on

However this is not the case: Teddy is the one helping Leonard find the man who raped his wife
and protects him throughout. In the end Teddy is shot in the head by Leonard. Due to the way the
film is structured Teddy is made out to be the bad person, but towards the end of the movie it is
found out that Teddy was there the whole time to help Leonard and make sure that nothing happens
to him on his investigation. Due to the unique narrative structure of this film, the perception of
Teddy is all wrong. Nolan uses this technique as it makes the audience form their own views on the
characters and keeps them guessing until the end of the film. Due to the narrative structure, the film
relies heavily on first impressions on characters, however, these views change as the film

The first step, represents three methodologies which are necessary in which unlocking the text

text of the work and depicts different views in this regard.
Since New Historicists view an aesthetic work as a social production, a text s meaning resides for
them in the cultural system, composed of the Demon Lover from New Historicist point of view,

Bowen shapes her hatred of the war in the stultifying dictions of the work, not only twentieth

Now to move to the second field on the basis of social rules and dictates within the text, we should
elucidate morbid culture of the society with reference to the opening text in which Mrs. Drover
visits her house in the shell shocked England of the Second World War. This is an example of
social atmosphere:
Against the next batch of clouds, already piling up ink
dark, broken chimneys and parapets stood out. In her
once familiar street, as in any unused channel, and
unfamiliar queerness had silted up; a cat moved itself
and out of railing, but no humane eye watched Mrs.
Drover `s return. Shifting some parcels under her arm,
she slowly forced round her latchkey in an unwilling
lock, then gave the door, which had warped, push with
her knee. Dead air came out to meet her as she went
in.
The atmosphere of this exposition is clearly foreboding: the dark clouds, broken chimneys, unused
street, solitary cat, and dead air all prove ominous and reflect the sordid ruling mood. Failed

The United States Essay
1. The Commonwealth They Served
The weather was seasonally cold in Pennsylvania s Capitol late in 1914. On Sunday morning,
December 27, the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit. This reading was the lowest ever registered
in the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather
station. Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg
Evening Telegraph newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy.
During that week, Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively
mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for
one of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152
state employees. The release of this document was a key milestone in the Commonwealth s early
20th century effort to improve its personnel management practices.
By listing names, this document provides an opportunity to recognize the often unheralded
contributions of selected state employees assigned to organizations under the general supervision of
the Governor. The register also affords an invaluable chance to appreciate how the offices, bureaus,
and divisions make Pennsylvania work. Researching their efforts brought to light a collective
commitment to assist the public. This attribute is a common virtue among Pennsylvania state
employees, both past and present. It is the one thing

Running Head: Running head: Is Hypnosis a useful tool?
Is Hypnosis a useful tool to cure mental disorders?
Mara De Ascanis
Abstract
Many types of mental and physical problems are the result of mental distortions,
hypnosis, by replacing mental distortions with useful and healthy associations, is able to re
establish health in both mind and body. Hypnosis is so successful that it should be a tool used by
most doctors and mental health practitioners. Doctors can do more with it and would need to
prescribe less pills and see more results with their patients. Science has proved that hypnosis is in

His writings are what led to future research and development of hypnosis and the investigation of
what was later called the unconscious mind (E. Hilgard, 1984). Milton Erickson, the founder of
Hypnocounseling, was a major influence in practices of counseling and psychotherapy, and his
methods are without doubt the fasted growing in the western world in the field of
psychotherapy. He was also one of the most prominent founders of neurolinguistic programming
(NLP). He was also very influential in the in family and brief systemic therapy model of the
Mental Health Research Institute. His work has been so original and creative that he was
nicknamed Mr. Hypnosis (Gunnison, H., 1990). He also was the founder and first president of
the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis, as well as the first editor of its journal. Erickson
goal was to give back to their clients their personal power and control over their lives with the
use of implied directive language. Instead of saying, Sit back in the chair, relax, and listen to my
voice , he would say: You can sit back in the chair and you might even relax and listen to my
voice. The word can suggests that you have the ability to sit back in your chair and also sets up an
implied choice, that you can choose to sit back in the chair, if you want to or not (Gunnison, H.,
1990). The use of words such as can, might, could, and possibly makes for communication that

Essay On Apollo 13
Apollo 13 was to be the third mission sent from the Apollo Project to land on the Moon. An
explosion in one of the oxygen tanks caused the spacecraft to become crippled during the flight
and the crew were forced to orbit the Moon and return to the Earth without landing. The Apollo
13 mission was launched on Saturday afternoon, April 11, 1970 from launch complex 39A at
Kennedy Space Center. The space prime crew consisted of trained experts Commander James A.
Lovell Jr., Command module pilot Ken Mattingly and Lunar module pilot Fred W. Haise Jr.
There was also three backup crew members named John W. Young, John L. Swigert Jr. and
Charles M. Duke. This crew was ready to step in if for any reason something were to happen to any

However, at 55hrs, 54mins and 53secs when the crew was 200,000 miles from Earth and closing
in on the moon, mission controller Sy Liebergot saw a low pressure warning signal on a
hydrogen tank in Odyssey. The signal could have shown a problem, or could have indicated the
hydrogen just needed to be resettled by heating and fanning the gas inside the tank. Swigert
flipped the switch for the routine procedure. However when flipping the switch one of the
oxygen tanks in the service module exploded. The explosion caused one of the spacecraft panels
to rip off and damaged the fuel tanks killing the crew s oxygen supply and the spacecraft then
began to lose power. The crew notified Mission Control, with Swigert s famous phrase, Houston,
we ve had a problem... . Luckily the Apollo spacecraft was made up of two independent
spacecrafts joined by a tunnel the main spacecraft named Odyssey and the lunar model named
Aquarius. Luckily for Apollo 13, the explosion only damaged Odyssey so they had Aquarius as
backup, which wasn t supposed to be turned on until the crew was close to landing on the moon.
It didn t have a heat shield to survive the trip back to Earth, but it could keep the crew alive long
enough to get there. Then, the astronauts could switch to Odyssey for the rest of the trip home.
Haise and Lovell frantically worked to boot Aquarius up in less time than designed, while Swigert

I though this summer day would be the best day, I woke up at 9:00 a.m the bright sun was

ready fast to make the bus or do any homework. My mom finally had a day off work and we were
going to go shopping and go swimming. My mom burst in my room, throwing clothes yelling come
on you have a doctors appointment, we are going to be late! I hate the doctor, she is always is
telling me there is a problem, I feel like she is mean to me on purpose. My mom is still trying to

day ever after I had to get out of bed before 10:30. We had gotten in the car and my mom was

appointment was at 9:50 , so we had to sprint in the building so we would not be late. We had
opened the door to Yong Yo office I could smell the torture coming. The smell of sick old nasty
people filled the air. There were two ratty chairs in there with a sign that said Cover your mouth ,
it also had a desk in the back where the assistance were sitting. They had walls and walls of files.

Analysis Of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
If I were to remake the 1974 version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, I would update it to have
current technology. I would update the movie so people had cell phones; I would have social
media play a big part in the movie; I would also put in updated vehicles and machinery. With
these changes to the movie I feel like it would help the movie become more modern. Nowadays
everyone has a cell phone. From 80 year olds to 10 year olds, almost everyone has a cell phone. In
remaking The Texas Chain Saw Massacrefor current times I feel like adding cell phones would be
a major key in helping the movie fit our generation. For example, the hitchhiker wouldn t be a
hitchhiker in today s society, so the only thing I could think of to have the teenagers pick up a
random person was if Franklin was using a dating app and was going to pick up someone he has
been talking to. Franklin would be talking about how he has been talking to this girl for a while
now, and he wanted to bring her with on the teenagers trip. They would eventually find her
waiting at a bus stop to be picked up by Franklin and the rest of the teenagers. Franklin described
how caring and loving this girl was online. This girl could be a new family member of the killers
from the old movie. When she gets in the van Franklin notices right away she doesn t look like
her profile picture did online. Online she was a short blonde girl that had a couple blue streaks
in her hair, but when the teenagers pick her up they pick up a tall girl with jet black hair. She
could eventually go crazy and the teenagers kick her out like they did with the hitchhiker in the
original (Texas Chain Saw Massacre). After they kick the crazy girl out, Pam would go on to
read off of her phone all the horoscopes that she is obsessed with. Pam talks about how Franklin
s birthday is coming up in early november making him a Scorpio. She continues to say how this
month s horoscope for Scorpios says how these next couple of days will be strugglesome and
frustrating. Another way cell phones would change the movie would be if the lost someone in the
group they would just call them to try and figure out where they are. When Kirk and Pam go

Difference Between Grammar And Generative Grammar
GRAMMAR Grammar was considered as one of the most important for the development of a
language. It was defined as set of rules and regulations for English language. There are many
different types of grammar and they are, Comparative Grammar : Comparative grammar was
defined as the analysis and comparison of the grammatical structures of a language. Contemporary
work in comparative grammar was concerned with a faculty of language that provides an
explanatory basis for how a human being can acquire a first language. In this way, the theory of
grammar was a theory of human language and hence establishes the relationship among all
languages . Generative Grammar The rules determining the structure and interpretation of sentences
that speakers accept as belonging to the language. Simply put, a generative grammar is a theory of
competence: a model of the psychological system of unconscious knowledge that underlies a
speaker s ability to produce and interpret utterances in a language . Mental Grammar The generative
grammar stored in the brain that allows a speaker to produce language that other speakers can
understand. All humans are born with the capacity for constructing a Mental Grammar, given

Body Detoxification System Essay
What is Detoxification? We all try our best to keep clean on the outside. But very few persons pay
attention to internal hygiene. Fasting is one method of keeping your internal environment clean. It
is a form of body cleansing and detoxification that s gaining global acceptance. But the practice is
not entirely new. Indeed, for centuries ancient cultures had recognized and employed fasting as an
effective and inexpensive method of cleansing the internal organs and rejuvenating the body. Done
properly, fasting gives your body some breather, enabling it to flush out built up toxins and other
impurities that accumulate overtime from the food we eat, the air we breathe, the beverages we

He believes that once the internal organs have become reasonably compromised as a result of
toxins, it often takes the body some time to clean up. A detox program that includes fasting will
hasten that cleansing process. Our modern diet is loaded with substances that clog the colon.
This results in the accumulation of toxins in the colon which are gradually transferred to fat
deposits in the body. Every body detox program should therefore start with cleansing the colon.
Bennett s detoxification program for example, involves fasting on liquids for some days, say 2
3 days. This should be followed by a carefully chosen 5 day detox diet. This approach will give
the digestive system ample time to rest and clean itself up. Other experts recommend fasting on
fruit juice, vegetable juice, and water for three to seven days as an alternative way to clear the
body of toxins. This method works much the same way as the one earlier discussed. Another
method preferred by most persons involves drinking ONLY WATER for a whole day once each

If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as
functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping
News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies
history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers.
Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern
aides such as charts or lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due
west Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just
past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of
myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada has been mapped from the
ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than recorded history because its telling goes back
farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation. It had power before the printing press
inked history books. Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a paper that prints fake
advertisements and recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of information and truth
proves that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in Fifth Business
argues that

Capitalism Is A Social System Essay
For several centuries, capitalism, or more precisely free market capitalism has dominated the
economies of several developing countries around the world. Capitalism, according to the Merriam
Webster dictionary, is defined as an economic system characterized by private or corporate
ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices,
production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free
market ( Capitalism, n.d.). Capitalism is a social system which is based on individual rights in the
free market and is run based on the idea of a laissez faire economy, an economy that is free of
government control and intervention. A capitalist system is operated by private corporations in
business sectors with the main incentive of gaining profits from the free market through the
exchange of consumer goods and services. Therefore, capitalism is generally perceived to allow
for more economic freedom and competition in the market to produce quality consumer goods and
services in exchange of commodities, including wage labour. Generally, as private corporations in
various business sectors gain profits in the market, they can then use a portion of their profits to
contribute towards further building their commodities. This means that the value of labour
increases as workers are provided with higher wages for their labour work.
Thus, overall, free market capitalism supposedly allows for all members of

Compare Beccaria and Lombroso Essay
Compare 2 Key Thinkers and Their Competing Ideologies.
Criminology is a study of crime, criminals and criminal justice. Ideas about criminal justice and
crime arose in the 18th century during the enlightenment, but criminology as we know it today
developed in the late 19th century. Criminology has been shaped by many different academic
disciplines and has many different approaches. It explores the implications of criminal laws; how
they emerge and work, then how they are violated and what happens to those violators. Laws are
relative and historically shaped; they vary from time to time and from place to place (Carrabine et
al, 2009).
This essay will be comparing the competing ideologies of two key thinkers in criminology; Cesare

It is better to try and prevent crimes than it is to punish them, this is achieved by good legislation
which guides men to their greatest, or least unhappiness possible (Beccaria, 1767). As mentioned
previously, Beccaria s utilitarian ideology has shaped the justice system in western societies for
many decades. Therefore, Beccaria can be described as a very influential thinker. Without his
contribution we could still have a system of capital punishment, and that is a worrying thought.
However, we now seem fixed with utilitarian justice. It may be argued that it is now time to move
towards restorative justice. There are also those such as Tullock (1974), who argue for a return to
harsher sentencing. Some states in the US still consider the death penalty to be a legitimate
punishment. So it can be said that Beccaria is undoubtedly a key thinker in criminology, but as with
all key thinkers he is not without his critics.
Cesare Lombroso was also Italian but came from a Jewish family and is very different to
Beccaria. He trained as a medical doctor and graduated in 1858. He was a leading contributor in the
development of a positivist criminology which collected and looked into scientific measurements
for the explanation of criminal behaviour and crime (Hayward et al, 2010). Nearly all biological
theories stem from Lombroso and his book The Criminal man published in 1876, although
Lombroso enlarged upon and updated this original publication through five editions

The Day Of Working With Language
I glared down at the paper below me. The President needed this in thirty minutes or less. The note
had just arrived, and any time that I wasted could mean life or death. I needed to translate it
before it was too late, and something bad happened. After years of working with language, it
might seem that I would be able to pull this off easily. But it wasn t that easy. This was code, and
code that was confusing. I could hear the clock tick and tock, tick and tock. The stress was just
building up. I had never been good at dealing with things under stress, and I didn t know how I
could do it in thirty minutes. I was feeling hopeless; no idea how I was going to figure this out. I
thought back to the years I had put towards this. From where it... Show more content on

Being able to understand both English and Hindi was a gift. I was a part of both communication
methods, able to talk to so many people. But what about the other 6 billion people on this planet?
Wouldn t it be so cool to talk to them too? Being able to learn their ways, their literature, their
world. That would be pretty darn awesome. I usually always convinced myself that learning
Spanish was a great idea. And it was.
After being decently proficient in speaking Spanish, I realized that learning another language
wouldn t do me any harm. Why not? I picked up French. One of the beautiful love language of
Europe, another challenge that I could take on. It still took a great amount of effort to remember
each word and be able to craft those into meaningful sentences. But it was worth it. Reading and
speaking in French, Spanish, English and Hindi were loads of fun.
I decided to take on a new language. Russian. A completely new script, new sounds and new things
to learn. It was going to be a fun, yet quite difficult challenge.
WHY ON EARTH did I think I could do this?! I screamed in my head. Russian was by far the
most frustrating. I felt like giving up and just throwing away everything I had learned. I realized
that the more I worked on this, the more frustrated I d become, and the more I d be inclined to
give up. I walked out of my room, taking one of my usual walks whenever I was overflowing with
emotions. I focused on what I wanted to do: to learn as many languages

What was the Cause of the Peloponnesian War
Peloponnesian War is the name that was given to the conflict between Sparta and Athens. These
conflicts lasted from 431 until 404 BC. This is a war brought about by disputes between Athens
and Sparta on how to deal with their allies. According to Burn, (123), the Peloponnesian War was
between the rivals Athens and Sparta. It was a war ignited by insignificant civil conflicts and spurred
by interests from third party cities. Violent disputes erupted between them and the war began when
Sparta issued ultimatums to Athens. The Spartans wanted Athens to lift its economic sanctions
against the Megara city. Ultimately, Sparta finally won the war by completely destroying the
Athenian fleet with the financial help from Persia. A number of reasons caused the war. First, it
was because of the ultimatums issued to Athens by Sparta, the Athenians control of the Delian
League and their naval alliance, and Athens alliance with Leontini and Corcyra and the contest
between Corinth and Athens over Corcyra. The main cause of the Peloponnesian Warwas when
Spartans issued ultimatums to Athens. Sparta promised attacks if Athens did not lift its economic
sanctions against the Megara city. Megara city was Spartan s ally that was on the West of the
Athenians territory. The Athenians had forbidden the Megarians from trading in the Athenian
empire harbors (Hanson, 134). This was a blow to both Megara and Sparta because; they got
income from trading in the harbors. The dispute over these sanctions

The Levels Of Field Managers And Their Relationships
The 4 Levels of Field Managers and their Relationships
Multi unit enterprises are large corporations that own or manage several stores around the country.
For example Target, Walmart, Home Depot, large hotel chains like Marriott and car dealerships.
How do this corporations manage such an extensive number of stores? How do they all look and
act the same?
According to David A. Garvin and Lynne C. Levesque authors of the HBR article The Multiunit
Enterprise, these large corporations need a hierarchy of field managers that will effectively lead all
stores. To manage large enterprises there needs to be a certain order, this is where the different
management hierarchies come in. Every single step up the ladder has a larger responsibility and
more control over benchmarks and setting goals. However, you can never forget that it s a team
effort. It s about strengthening relationships to be able to work together and communicate
effectively.
There are four levels of field managers; store manager, district managers, regional vice presidents
and divisional heads. Although this might vary from industry to industry this is believed to be true
for the majority of large corporations.
Store managers: are responsible for both the day to day operations and the execution of new
initiatives. Although they have several goals based on their performance such as financial targets,
customer service benchmarks and employee satisfaction goals but they have little say in setting
those goals. On the

Magnesium And Hydrochloric Acid Lab Report
On November 3, 2017, I conducted an experiment with the purpose of measuring the heat in a
reaction between a mixture of Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid (HCI). While being mixed, the
reaction can either release or obtain more energy in an excessive manner. The surrounding
environment then can give a measure of the amount of heatenergy, and in this case the surrounding
environment is a calorimeter. A calorimeter is a tool that is able to isolate the reaction from its
surroundings, and is a very essential part of the lab. One must be careful when conducting this
experiment so that the calorimeter can successfully retain the energy so the results will be as
accurate as possible.
There are two possible reactions that can occur during an experiment. The first one is an
endothermic reaction, which is when there is a flow of heat coming into the reaction. When this
happens, it will be cool to the touch and it results in the products of the reaction having a higher ...

Alice Walker s Everyday Use
Generations fading As generations grow and continue to evolve with time, it has become evident
that often times traditions, customs, and family beliefs are evolving with time and the ideas and
practices of the older generations become obsolete. This is evident in Alice Walker s Everyday
use where a mother is narrating about a time where her oldest has gone off to college and has
assimilated to the modern day society and has shifted her views and practices to fit in with the
cultural norms. The daughter comes back home with what is believed to be either her husband. Or

As Joe Sarnowski interprets She has left the family s rural and impoverished state in pursuit of a
college education, and she returns with a strong appreciation for African heritage. The
appreciation is initially shown in her manner of dress (the clothing consists of yellows and
oranges enough to throw back the light of the sun, earrings hanging down to her shoulders, and
Bracelets dangling and making noises [52]) that appears at least stereotypically African
(Sarnowski 274) Dee takes on an African name of Wangero which further expresses her heritage.
Dee s idea of heritage is embedded within material objects which is evident upon her sudden
interest of the churn top, she recognizes it as a piece of art and sees it for what it if aesthetically
rather than what the churn is actually intended to be utilized for. She looks at the benches and
deems it as an artifact and she quote they re priceless (Walker 422) at that moment and time Dee s
mother comes to realization that she should not give away the items such as the delicate quilts to
Dee but rather to Maggie since she shares the same option as her mother. Dee puts up the argument

Bertrand Russell Rhetorical Analysis
Bertrand Russell argues that we should worship our good instinct, moral insights rather than
worshiping the evil god. He says we should create our own ideals and worship them. Russell
explains that worshiping our ideals gives us true freedom. As he says, in determination to worship
only the god created by our own love of the good, to respect only the heaven which inspires the
insight of our best moments (pg.51). I disagree with Russell s argument because worshiping our
insights does not reflect reality. Our personal ideals are not realistic. This paper will examine
Russell s arguments of his position of worshipping our good instincts rather than the universal
power through his idea of freedom, human virtue and by turning indignation to resignation. The
second part of this paper will critically analyze Russell s position.
Bertrand Russell is concerned with people, whom he calls savages worshipping the universal
power. These savages respect the power more than themselves because they find the power greater
than anything they see in themselves. Their thoughts and beliefs are of those the power devours.
Russell suggests that we should question whether the universal power deserves this respect. Russell
concludes that we must follow our very own good instinct, which will bring us true freedom rather
than the universal evil power. As he says, the vision of beauty is possible only to unfettered
contemplation, to thoughts not weighted by the load of eager wishes (pg.52).

The Evolution of the Role of Women in British and American...
Girls wear jeans and cut their hair short and wear shirts and boots because it is okay to be a boy;
for a girl it is like promotion. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, according to you,
because secretly you believe that being a girl is degrading (McEwan 55 56). Throughout the
history of literature women have been viewed as inferior to men, but as time has progressed the
idealistic views of how women perceive themselves has changed. In earlier literature women took
the role of being the housewife or the household caretaker for the family while the men provided
for the family. Women were hardly mentioned in the workforce and always held a spot under their
husband s wing. Women were viewed as a calm and caring character in... Show more content on

Considering the American novel Their Eyes Were Watching God is written by Zora Neale
Hurston in 1937. In the novel Janie Crawford plays the main character and has a very
subservient mind, but as the novel progresses, so does her attitude and views on self worth and
independence. Women s freedom and lack of independence serves a big role in the novel. Many
women are oppressed to the authority of men during the 1930 s. Janie s childhood was shaped by
her nanny, but as she grows to be a young woman she begins to realize that she craves
independence and self worth. Janie says Why must Joe be so mad with her for making him look
small when he did it to her all the time? (Hurston 77), in this quote Janie is saying that she
believes it is a double standard for men to always put women down and say that women are
beneath men, but when a women does that to a man it is considered a horrible action. When
men make horrible remarks to women, society does not react with the same reaction as they do
with women, but if a woman was to insult a man, society will not tolerate that type of behavior.
Janie is beginning to question why it is acceptable for a man to disrespect a woman in society,
and she completely disagrees with the opinion of society. Another quote that supports Janie s
views is when she talks about her marital status by saying; She was borned in slavery time when

Advantages And Disadvantages Of PFC Transverter
The objective of the control circuit for PFC converter are a near unity power factor should flow and
a steady average voltage should maintain at the output. Literature is abounded with novel PFC
control methods that address these objectives. These control methods can segmented into a few
categories in terms of their implementation approach and structures. Such as the multi loop
multiplier approach, the cycle by cycle integration approach, the single loop control approach and
the sliding mode controlapproach. Under these categories, some common PFC converter control
methods are discussed and their advantages and disadvantages of those methods [].
2.1.1.1Single loop approach
Single loop control methods allowed a single voltage control loop to regulate the output voltage.
The input current shaping is accomplished in an open loop manner, the duty cycle patterns are
predefined by considering in ideal PFC operation. One example in this control method is the duty
phase control (DPC) proposed by Chen [42]. In this method, a phase shift is willingly introduced to
the stored duty cycle patterns. The output voltage is regulated by adjusting this phase shift by using
the output of the voltage error amplifier, which is named the duty phase . This approach simplified
the control structure and eliminated the current loop, without the need to ... Show more content on

In this control method, the error voltage is integrated twice and to generate the reference signal for
current tracking, this signal referred to as the nonlinear carrier signal. In the current shaping,
instead of the sensed switch current for comparison, the sensed current is integrated to obtain an
average value before being compared with the nonlinear carrier signal. This approach reduces the
input current distortion and the noise immunity. Its physical realization is more complicated than

Canada s Electoral System
It has become widely accepted that Canada uses a first past the post electoral system. However, this
system may not be in the best interest of Canada any more. There are many reasons why Canada
should change its electoral system to a mixed member proportional one, a variant of proportional
representation. With a first past the post system, the elected officials will always be of the majority
and this excludes minorities from fair representation. Adopting MMP can create stronger voter
turnouts, more personal campaigning, better individual representation, and better party selection.
John Hiemstra and Harold Janson, are both in favour of a MMP electoral system. They understand
that with the switch, the citizens will get more representation in... Show more content on

One can come to a conclusion that plurality systems have a major flaw and that is inequality.
Adopting a MMP would be a huge step forward in Canadian democracy. With a MMP system in
place, more women would be elected to the legislature because it creates fairness. With more
women in the legislature, it can make a substantial difference in the types of laws that may be
proposed and passed. Another advantage MMP brings to Canada is instead of electing one
member of the legislature in each small district, Canada would use larger districts to elect several
members. To add to this advantage, the candidates that win the seats in these multi member
districts are determined by the proportion of votes each party receives. With Canada s current
electoral system, one citizen s vote counts for less than another citizen s vote. By changing to a
MMP system, Canada can give more equality and fairness back to the citizens.
Proportional representation is almost always acknowledged as the fairest electoral system. With this
in mind, many still reject a mixed member proportional system. Critics argue that the current
method has produced a stable and effective government, while MMP would create an ineffective
government. Wiseman feels that since Canada has been consistently stable, our electoral system
does not need to be changed. Hiemstra and Jansen disagree with the plurality system that is
currently in place for it does not produce fair

1 Clone Detection
When the software are created, many times the codes are simply copy pasted, with small changes.
This is called cloning. Investigating these copy pasted sections of source codes is called Clone
Detection. It was discovered that about 10 15% of the code in a software system was copy
pasted[1] For refac toring, or at least noting. Clone detection techniques try to nd cloned codes.
Techniques for detecting clones may include programming language speci c parsing to simple text
based analysis. Parsing code technique have an advantage as they are semantically aware which
allows them to detect similarities between the structures of dierent code segments where the dif
ference between naming of variables and parameters is too much. The latter, on the other hand, can
be used over a broad variety of material as they aren t language specic.
NiCad[2], a clone detector tool, uses hybrid clone detection method, com bining features of both
language sensitive parsing and text based analysis.
It works in three stages Parsing, Normalization and comparison. The rst stage involves parsing the
input source to extract all fragments of a given granularity, such as

  • 2. How Did The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire occurred on the 25 March 1911. In the Asch building, on the eighth, ninth, and tenth floor there were around 500 workers present. To avoid theft all the doors on the floors was locked, except one.The door that was unlocked happened to be surrounded by fire so there was no escape. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. These factories specialized in making women s blouses. Women that worked there were mainly European and Jewish immigrants that were trying to make some money. Since they made that decision they were faced with poverty and horrible working conditions. The immigrants also had to suffer through a new language and that made them an easy target for people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Terrorist Group Called Isis Terrorist Blood I was known as a useless addition to the CIA. I really never received any major cases.Until the day that I heard of the terrorist group called ISIS. I had from the whispers of fellow coworkers that there was a secret website in the deep web that recruits members to the terrorist group, but no one has reported being able to access the site. I did remember back to my adolescent years that I did have a bit of experience with hacking as well as navigating the deep web. So, I attempted for weeks effortlessly trying to scavenge the deep web for that website, and finally 2 weeks later I had found the the site, it seemed very shady and had a black background with the videos of every event that created by ISIS even the reporter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On our way there we had seen several attack helicopters, I am guessing it s an attack helicopter company that makes them. So I had an idea to go and try to steal one. The only tough part about infiltrating the company was that you had to have an employee badge. We needed a way to disguise ourselves. So, what we did was gather a bunch of old twigs and green leaves and disguised ourselves as bushes, and as we saw two employees come by we knocked them out behind the bush using a tranquilizer and hid them behind our bush so we could snatch their identification card. Once that was done we had scanned the card into the metallic scanner, and tried to blend with the other workers as much as possible. In the front office we were asked our position, and I responded with Helicopter cleaner? With a nervous look. Alright! Just remember to not wet the engine, was what the blonde secretary (lady) with a lot of acne said. We had entered the helicopter maintenance room and you could see many military helicopters, there were so many to choose from the Sikorsky R 4 to the much newer UH 60 Black Hawk. All of these helicopters were lined up in a vast room. All together It seemed like there was around eleven helicopters in the entire room! There were many black helicopters and there was even a dark blue and green helicopter. In the end we had decided to take the Mi 24. It was a large and bulky helicopter with a good amount of weapons.Right when I started ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sanisera Research Paper Sanisera (Menorca) Sanitja bay, located on the northern coast of the island of Menorca, is home to a Roman fort and Sanisera. The bay was originally only open to the Roman military but later opened to trades around the time Sanisera was established. Unlike Pollentia, Sanisera was one of the only Roman sites not constructed on top of an indigenous site. The lack of modern construction over Sanisera has made it possible to undertake an extensive excavation of both sites. The first phase of excavations focused primarily on the fort with some surveys of the city, the current phase of the excavation of Sanitja began in 1992 (Sa Nitja 1996). Throughout both excavation phases, there has also been a lot of focus on the various shipwrecks in the bay. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Environmental Inequality In The 1970 s Introduction The atmosphere of the 1950s to 1970s can be described as a time of intense turmoil in American history. In the 1960s there was a change in the way people viewed the environment and what as a nation they were doing to destroy it. Women again rose up to combat oppression inequality during the 1960s, as they have done in the past before. The Civil Rights came with a powerful force of change for the minorities of the United Statesand paved the way for other Movement to arise. In the trying times of the chaotic 1950 s to 1970s three of the most influential movements of their time emerged, the Environmental Movement, Women s Movement, and the Civil Rights movement, all would go onto changing the American way of life. Environmental Movement Just like the bald eagle the American way of life in the 1960s was killing America and the animal in the environment. Chemical sprayed in the air to ward off bugs like DDT was contaminating the water supply, killing the fish and harming the animals who drank from it. So in the mid 60s Congress passed a law prohibiting the use of DDT in the United States. As news of America s environmental arose the public began to organise small environment movements which played a big role in attracting the attention of the government, which passed the Clean Air and Water... • 6. Antigone, Star Wars, and the Good Life Sophocles s play Antigone promotes a good life that, through careful analysis, is very similar to the Stoic theory of the good life. Antigone is a story about the members of the ancient Theban aristocracy vying for control of themselves and others; however, in its core it contains an exploration of the good life, that is trying to investigate what values will allow one to get what they want out of life. A group of philosophers, also of Greek origin, produced a theory of this topic; this group of thinkers is called the Stoics. Concerning the good life they had two main values, from which they believe a good life can originate. The first of the two is finding happiness from inner resources, or trying not to depend on things around you such as wealth or adventure to give you a sense of happiness. The second facet is that of not worrying about things that are out of your control, as there is no use. Antigone brings to stage these topics, and shows characters who either live according to them, and exit with a good life, and others who deny these, and end the play living in a bad life. Therefore the play shows through example, that Stoic values will lead to a positive way of living, and living against the values will lead to you not getting everything out of life. The two main characters in this tragedy are Creon, the king of Thebes, and uncle of the other character Antigone, the daughter of the last king of the same city Thebes. Creon does not live according to the values of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Phillips Curve helps in analyzing the relationship in the middle of inflation and unemployment. There is a non relative negative relationship in the middle of inflation and unemployment (if unemployment is decreased than there is a rising value level in the economy). There is a long run and easygoing relationship in the middle of inflation and unemployment over the above mentioned period in Pakistan. There is a momentary relationship (stuns) in the short run, while there is a lasting relationship (stuns) over the long run. By taking a look at the relationship built, one can estimate for next 10 years, that there will be a reverse relationship between both variables. • 9. Negativity Bias In News And Media News and media, specifically the language used by news and media outlets, has a very real effect on our consciousnesses and therefore our actions as a society. Negativity bias is very real and has a substantial effect on our overall world outlook. Similarly, how article titles are phrased drastically sways what information we retain and which articles we choose to read. It has been shown in various studies that subtle misinformation and so called, alternative facts lead to an overall shift in our consciousness as a society. Therefore, both news and media have a significant impact on our beliefs and mindset overall as a society through the employment of negativity bias, the specific phrasing of articles and their titles, and deliberate subtle misinformation to the public. Negativity bias is the concept that even when of equal intensity, things of a more negative nature have a greater effect on our psychological state and process than do positive or neutral thoughts. Examples of this include, unpleasant thought, harmful or traumatic experiences, and negative emotions, especially fear. This concept can be seen on a variety of platforms but is most evident in combat veterans, victims of violent or especially traumatic events, and, surprisingly, journalists. When we hear of PTSD we expect an image of a veteran, or a victim or some violent event like rape, seeing their parents die horribly, being a victim of a mass shooting, etc.. Yet, journalists are more likely to become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Analysis Importance of Name and Remember in Dante s Inferno and Beowulf One of the important themes that stands out in Dante s epic poem, Inferno , is a theme of legacy via endurance of one s name. In other words, the human need to have one s name and story shared with others in an effort to gain some sense of immortality. Even from the depths of hell the characters in the Inferno express a wish to have their stories told. The Inferno tells of Dante s adventure through the depths of Hell with the spirit of the great Roman poet Virgilas his guide. In this epic adventure, Dante treks the Nine Circles of Hell and in each circle he encounters prominent figures in both his personal life and in history. The poem as a whole is a commentary on sins and transgressions, but the significance of these transgressions are amplified with the attachment of names we the readers recognize from history and literature. Among them are figures one would expect to be Hell for their famous transgressions such as Judas Iscariot, Attila the Hun and Brutus but also more surprisingly Ulysses, the hero from Homer s Iliad and Odyssey, who is in the Eighth Circle of Hell for the crime of spiritual theft and Pope Celestine V, whom Dante condemns for abdicating the papacy and thus allowed Pope Boniface VIII to become the new pope. This was a transgression worthy of hell in Dante s eyes because historically Pope Boniface VIII was something of a rival to Dante, who had been an advocate for the separation of ... In a trial where the only plausible evidence proved their innocence, they were still convicted. They were accused of rape, but all it was was an accusation. There was nothing to back it up. They endured many trials almost all of which had prejudice juries. This is the story of nine young men who had little, and then had everything taken away from them. On March 24, 1931, nine black youths were accused of raping two white girls; Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. There was only one of them who was not in his teens, Charlie Weems. When the white boys were thrown off of the train they alerted the Stevenson stationmaster that a group of Negroes and two white girls were on the train. He immediately informed authorities and the boys tied together and arrested at the next station. Later, George Chamlee, One of the representatives for the International Labor Defense at the Scottsboro trials, investigated to see if the girls had made the charges before the boys were arrested. He claimed that these girls just gave in to the assumptions that the authorities had when they arrested the Negroes. There is no way of proving this conclusively, but from the interview I had with the two girls separately several weeks after the trial, I would say that there is a strong possibility of truth in this. (Ransdell, Plausibility of the Charges Questioned). When the press interviewed the Negroes, they all remained silent except to deny assaulting the girls. • 13. Anne Bradstreet And Edwards Compare And Contrast Through the fiery depths of Anne Bradstreet s burning home and the intensity of god s hands from Jonathan Edwards. The Puritanism way is highly respected. Throughout Anne Bradstreet s poem from 1612 1672 she talks about her life and how her house is suddenly burning down. As her mind tosses around she starts to explain things about her life to herself. She realizes the positive things in life. She wants to make it known that god is good to her and no matter what she will always have a home and that being a Puritanmeans that god is there for her. Anne Bradstreetis very similar to Jonathan Edwards because as he writes he talks about how being a Puritan will save you and that not following god is the wrong choice because by following god you are safe and that god is so powerful that if you do anything wrong by him you shall be punished. These stories are similar but also different in many ways.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They both talk about how great he is and how powerful he is. As she thinks about what is happening she talks about it, when she feels like she is being selfish she tells herself to remember that no matter what she will always have a home and that she shouldn t think that way because even without her home she s at least still alive and that eventually she will get everything back. As for Edwards he expresses that god s hands are like fire because how powerful he is. God is perfect and although he is perfect he can still get angry with people that make poor choices. He wants to encourage other Puritans to do what is right because god can punish for anything that is wrong. Both describe the power of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Social Justice Issues Of The Media Of A White Officer... Throughout the past couple of years there have been many social justice issues coming to the forefront of everyone s attention. Some of the most popular examples include Baltimore, Ferguson and Charleston, although there are countless other ones spread throughout the country. These are some of the most popular ones because of how much media attention they received, but was all that attention really a good thing? I believe that while these issues needed to be brought to everyone s attention, the way that the media portrayed the situations did not help too much, it may have even hindered these issues. The way that the media portrayed certain groups of people further led to feelings or personal justification of racismand oppression. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the people in Ferguson felt that this young man was fatally shot based off the color of his skin, and that this would not have happened if he was white. In fact, there is a large amount of African American individuals who believe that officers are morally bankrupt (Mcwhorter, 2014). This position is taken by countless communities across America (Mcwhorter 2014). This plays a huge role in how the environment affected this man s life. If there had not have been so much racial tension happening in Ferguson then this situation probably would never have happened, or at least to the extent that it happened. Mistrust of law enforcement leads to many issues such as even greater issues with the police when problems arise due to troubled history with them. African Americans in this community may not want to ask law enforcement for help when they are the leading group of arrests and longest prison sentences (Madrigal, 2014). The officer fatally shooting this young man was the last straw for a fair amount of people in this town. I believe that if the officer was doing what he believed was right, and not making judgements on the young man for the color of his skin, then he was just doing his job and it turned out to be a horrible situation. With all the differing stories that are taking place in the media surrounding that aspect of it this will be a hard situation to fully comprehend. There are obviously undercurrents ... • 16. Differences Of The Italian Renaissance And The Northern... talian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance Differences Between The Two The Renaissance was a period of great cultural and technological changes that swept Europe from the end of the 13th century. It was integral in developing Europe into a powerhouse. Although, each part of Europe was subjected to different changes, there were two primary renaissances, which were most notable. They were the Italian and the Northern renaissance. Both of these renaissances had a profound impact on Europe. But they also had some typical differences among them and each was unique in its own way. Italian Renaissance The Italian Renaissance was a period of great cultural changes and achievement throughout Europe. It spanned from the end of the 13th century up to about the 1600 s. It marked the transition of Europe from the medieval period to the Early Modern Europe. The term renaissance is a modern term that was coined by historians many years after the Renaissance had already ended. Although the origins of the Italian Renaissance can be traced to many different locations, it is important to note that different aspects of Italian culture and society remained largely medieval during the time of the Renaissance; the Renaissance did not come into full swing until the end of the century. The word Renaissance means rebirth , and the era is best known for the renewed interest in the culture of classical antiquity (Greece and Rome) after the period that Renaissance humanists labeled the Dark Ages. These changes, while significant, were concentrated in the elite, and for the vast majority of the population life was little changed from the Middle Ages. The Italian Renaissance is best known for its cultural achievements credited to writers, poets, artists, sculptors, and Renaissance Men (or women!). Figures such as Petrarch (The Father of Humanism ), Leonardo da Vinci (The ideal Renaissance Man known for the Mona Lisa, the Vitruvian Man, and many more creations!), Raphael (known for his painting, The School of Athens.), Dante Alleghri (known for his work, The Divine Comedy.), and many more are significant characters of this era and movement that contribute significantly. The extensive discussion of women s fashion opens a reader s eyes to the idea that the style of the Flapper is not the only image to remember this decade by. Looking at the teenage and middle aged women of this time, conforming to what society wanted was not the top priority and a change in styles appears. In the book, Becoming Modern: Young Women and the Reconstruction of Womanhood in the 1920s , author Birgitte Soland discusses the changes that historians saw with women post World War I. Quoting these historians, Soland writes: Once women had been let out of the cage and permitted to demonstrate their talents and capabilities in the labor market during wartime, the spell of female domesticity was broke, and it took a powerful mixture of ideological campaigns and coercive political measures to restore the sexual division of labor after 1918 (Soland, 2002). Women stopped kneeling at the feet of their husbands and tending to the man s every need. They began standing up for the rights they deserved. Although women did not become equal to men, they did earn the right to vote and work in the 20s. The rise of hemlines and drop of the waistline may have been a reflection of their push to become their own people. With all of this change, women began to gain more self confidence, leading to a change in views on fashions. Looking at the amount that clothing changed in the 1920s leads to an idea that women may have found power in the things they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Unnecessary Decline of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire Upon reviewing the drama, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it would appear that the character of Blanche DuBois is worthy of closer inspection. With her previous occupation as a teacher of American literature and her former social status being that of a well bred woman of the very traditional Old South, Blanche could be any human being transferring from one culture to another with customs far different from the ones being left behind. That is quite evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her sister lives with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before the end of the spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong with Blanche. In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are antagonist and protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche and now summoning up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche (Londre 47). In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves (Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for redemption (Bloom 16). In a single moment of deviation from her mood of gaiety in this scene, Blanche withholds a faded, ribbon tied sheaf of love letters: Poems a dead boy wrote. I hurt him that way you would like to hurt me ... (Williams 41). That shows her feeling of guilt about the death of her husband. In the same scene Stanley reveals to Blanche that he is going to check her papers from Belle Reve, inheritance having taken on added importance as Stella has taken on added girth with her pregnancy. Christopher Novan s Use Of Narrative Structure In Memento In Christopher Nolan s 2001 neo noir psychological thriller, Memento, he explores the idea of trust through a unique narrative structure. The film explores trust through the protagonist, Leonard Shelby and his interactions with characters, Natalie and Teddy in his hunt for the man who raped his wife. The structure of the filmis split into two parts: colour scenes (the main plot line) and black and white scenes (the sub plot line). Nolan alternates between the two; however, the colour scenes are shown backwards in time, from Leonard s point of view, in first person; and the black and whites scenes are told forwards in a documentary style with just voice over and simple images. The start of the film opens with a scene literally shown backwards, which makes the audience aware of the structure of the way the story will be told. There is repetition within the colour scenes, when one colour scenes starts it is the end of the next one. Indeed, for centuries ancient cultures had recognized and employed fasting as an effective and inexpensive method of cleansing the internal organs and rejuvenating the body. Bennett s detoxification program for example, involves fasting on liquids for some days, say 2 3 days. This should be followed by a carefully chosen 5 day detox diet. If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation. It had power before the printing press inked history books. Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a paper that prints fake advertisements and recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of information and truth proves that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in Fifth Business argues that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Capitalism Is A Social System Essay For several centuries, capitalism, or more precisely free market capitalism has dominated the economies of several developing countries around the world. Capitalism, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is defined as an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market ( Capitalism, n.d.). Capitalism is a social system which is based on individual rights in the free market and is run based on the idea of a laissez faire economy, an economy that is free of government control and intervention. A capitalist system is operated by private corporations in business sectors with the main incentive of gaining profits from the free market through the exchange of consumer goods and services. Therefore, capitalism is generally perceived to allow for more economic freedom and competition in the market to produce quality consumer goods and services in exchange of commodities, including wage labour. Generally, as private corporations in various business sectors gain profits in the market, they can then use a portion of their profits to contribute towards further building their commodities. This means that the value of labour increases as workers are provided with higher wages for their labour work. Thus, overall, free market capitalism supposedly allows for all members of ... Hence, testing the hypothesis in the real world would still generate similar results as previous studies have concluded from using still images and motion pictures. Briefly mentioned in the abstract and explicitly stated in the results and discussion part of Experiment 1, the researchers were led to a second hypothesis due to the apparent trend within the collected results from the first experiment. The second hypothesis was that younger subjects considered themselves members of the same social group as the experimenters and older subjects considered the experimenters to be members of an out group. Thus, successful detection depended on social group membership. 2 Indicate whether or not the study was theoretically motivated. Ideas about criminal justice and crime arose in the 18th century during the enlightenment, but criminology as we know it today developed in the late 19th century. Criminology has been shaped by many different academic disciplines and has many different approaches. It explores the implications of criminal laws; how they emerge and work, then how they are violated and what happens to those violators. Laws are relative and historically shaped; they vary from time to time and from place to place (Carrabine et al, 2009). It is better to try and prevent crimes than it is to punish them, this is achieved by good legislation which guides men to their greatest, or least unhappiness possible (Beccaria, 1767). As mentioned previously, Beccaria s utilitarian ideology has shaped the justice system in western societies for many decades. Therefore, Beccaria can be described as a very influential thinker. Without his contribution we could still have a system of capital punishment, and that is a worrying thought. However, we now seem fixed with utilitarian justice. It may be argued that it is now time to move towards restorative justice. There are also those such as Tullock (1974), who argue for a return to harsher sentencing. Some states in the US still consider the death penalty to be a legitimate punishment. So it can be said that Beccaria is undoubtedly a key thinker in criminology, but as with all key thinkers he is not without his critics. Cesare Lombroso was also Italian but came from a Jewish family and is very different to Beccaria. He trained as a medical doctor and graduated in 1858. He was a leading contributor in the development of a positivist criminology which collected and looked into scientific measurements for the explanation of criminal behaviour and crime (Hayward et al, 2010). • 44. What was the Cause of the Peloponnesian War Peloponnesian War is the name that was given to the conflict between Sparta and Athens. These conflicts lasted from 431 until 404 BC. This is a war brought about by disputes between Athens and Sparta on how to deal with their allies. According to Burn, (123), the Peloponnesian War was between the rivals Athens and Sparta. It was a war ignited by insignificant civil conflicts and spurred by interests from third party cities. Violent disputes erupted between them and the war began when Sparta issued ultimatums to Athens. The Spartans wanted Athens to lift its economic sanctions against the Megara city. Ultimately, Sparta finally won the war by completely destroying the Athenian fleet with the financial help from Persia. A number of reasons caused the war. First, it was because of the ultimatums issued to Athens by Sparta, the Athenians control of the Delian League and their naval alliance, and Athens alliance with Leontini and Corcyra and the contest between Corinth and Athens over Corcyra. The main cause of the Peloponnesian Warwas when Spartans issued ultimatums to Athens. Sparta promised attacks if Athens did not lift its economic sanctions against the Megara city. Megara city was Spartan s ally that was on the West of the Athenians territory. The Athenians had forbidden the Megarians from trading in the Athenian empire harbors (Hanson, 134). Magnesium And Hydrochloric Acid Lab Report On November 3, 2017, I conducted an experiment with the purpose of measuring the heat in a reaction between a mixture of Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid (HCI). While being mixed, the reaction can either release or obtain more energy in an excessive manner. The surrounding environment then can give a measure of the amount of heatenergy, and in this case the surrounding environment is a calorimeter. A calorimeter is a tool that is able to isolate the reaction from its surroundings, and is a very essential part of the lab. He says we should create our own ideals and worship them. Russell explains that worshiping our ideals gives us true freedom. As he says, in determination to worship only the god created by our own love of the good, to respect only the heaven which inspires the insight of our best moments (pg.51). I disagree with Russell s argument because worshiping our insights does not reflect reality. Our personal ideals are not realistic. This paper will examine Russell s arguments of his position of worshipping our good instincts rather than the universal power through his idea of freedom, human virtue and by turning indignation to resignation. The second part of this paper will critically analyze Russell s position. Bertrand Russell is concerned with people, whom he calls savages worshipping the universal power. These savages respect the power more than themselves because they find the power greater than anything they see in themselves. Their thoughts and beliefs are of those the power devours. Russell suggests that we should question whether the universal power deserves this respect. Russell concludes that we must follow our very own good instinct, which will bring us true freedom rather than the universal evil power. There are many reasons why Canada should change its electoral system to a mixed member proportional one, a variant of proportional representation. With a first past the post system, the elected officials will always be of the majority and this excludes minorities from fair representation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One can come to a conclusion that plurality systems have a major flaw and that is inequality. Adopting a MMP would be a huge step forward in Canadian democracy. With a MMP system in place, more women would be elected to the legislature because it creates fairness. With more women in the legislature, it can make a substantial difference in the types of laws that may be proposed and passed. Another advantage MMP brings to Canada is instead of electing one member of the legislature in each small district, Canada would use larger districts to elect several members. To add to this advantage, the candidates that win the seats in these multi member districts are determined by the proportion of votes each party receives. With Canada s current electoral system, one citizen s vote counts for less than another citizen s vote. By changing to a MMP system, Canada can give more equality and fairness back to the citizens. Proportional representation is almost always acknowledged as the fairest electoral system. With this in mind, many still reject a mixed member proportional system. Critics argue that the current method has produced a stable and effective government, while MMP would create an ineffective government.
