My magazine recreation
The student recreated the cover of a magazine called TOTAL FILM using Photoshop and InDesign, which they were familiar with Photoshop but had to learn how to use InDesign. They imported images and used cutting tools to recreate elements from the original cover. They also recreated the text. Though new to InDesign, they felt they did an okay job recreating the overall look and key elements of the original cover.
My magazine recreation

While their recreation was not perfect, capturing all elements or with ideal lighting, they were pleased with the outcome given their limited experience with the software programs used.

Evaluation of my recreation
Michael evaluated how he recreated a magazine. He began by creating a logo in Illustrator and setting up the background in InDesign. He then took photos of models and edited them in Photoshop to mimic poses from the original. Facing issues importing images into InDesign, he selected parts from the original in Photoshop to add. While InDesign is good for layout, the images became pixelated and some tools were missing. Moving forward, he would do more editing in Photoshop before InDesign and take more photos to improve upon his recreation.

- Comparing the preliminary and real magazine covers, the author improved the masthead size, image editing, and inclusion of more cover lines.

Magazine recreation evaluation
- 1. Magazine recreation evaluation In the making of my magazine recreation I used programs like InDesign, Google and Photoshop I was familiar with Photoshop from the previous unit however InDesign was completely new to me, so then I started to experiment with all the tools till I grasped the ropes. Then I began to build my magazine, I stated by heading to Google to look for the main image for my front cover, and then I inserted it into InDesign. Secondly I used the text tool, to try and find the best text to suit the text on the original magazine cover. Thirdly I placed an image of a barcode, and displayed it on my magazine to give it a more authentic, professional look. Finally I positioned the blood splat to make finish of my magazine recreation. I have learnt a few skills from the making of my bag such as. Placing the photo of the magazine I was recreating on one side of my screen, and having InDesign on the other. This helped me capture all the fine detail and copy it best way possible. I haven’t really learnt how to use new tools due to it being rather like Photoshop. The weaknesses of my recreation are how the images are slightly pixelated and dull, they could have been a lot better quality resulting in a clearer, finer magazine. The strengths of my recreation are that the title looks similar to the original and the text it the same and nearly in the same position as the original image.
- 2. As you can see I did not recreate the front cover photo with a fellow student. I did this because I was absent for a few lessons and I was falling behind so I had to get an image off the internet that would fit the cover appropriately, and funny enough the exact image was one of the first to come up on google images. This resulted in me not having to use a camera or a tripod. Overall I’m very pleased with the final product, I don’t think that I could have made it any better. I’m also pleased with it because the programs I used where new to me and I struggled slightly getting used to them. If I had to do this again I would change the lighting on the head image, and make the text slightly bolder just to make it more authentic to the original magazine. More below Finally I would add the side text to for fill the original. With my recreation I would make sure the text was in front of Bigs head and add the small bit of text underneath the header. First I would make the header text a lot fatter and closer together even though I had lots of trouble trying to do this when I was creating the text for the first time and that’s why it hasn’t changed.
