Chapter 14 The Human Genome By Heidi Erdenetsogt
Human Heredity The human body is made up of chromosomes which all contain at least one X chromosome .
There are 23 X chromosomes and 23 Y chromosomes in males. In females, there are 46 X chromosomes. The Chromosomes
Male Chromosomes In males, since there is only 1 X chromosome the X-linked alleles are expressed in males although recessive .
Nondisjunction When gametes are caused to have an abnormal chromosomes count, causing a chromosomes number disorder .
Human Genome Project The Human Genome Project is the attempt to sequence all human DNA.
Gene Therapy Gene therapy is the process in which a missing or not working gene is replaced with a good gene.
DNA Fingerprinting DNA fingerprinting is a method which can be used to determine the identification of a specific individual.
Karyotype It is the picture formed after cutting and arranging chromosomes into a photograph which is then called a karyotype.
Pedigree A pedigree is a diagram that is used to show the relationships within a family.
Genetic Disorders A small change in DNA of one cell can effect protein structures thus causing a genetic disorder such as cystic fibrosis or sickle cell disease.
