Christianity in Poland and the Church of St. Florian
Religion is a defining factor of what gave people a common identity; so in order to feel connected
with one another, rulers would take it upon themselves to unite their kingdoms and establish a
universal religion. During the late middle ages Christianity was on the rise. It was widely accepted and
appealed mostly to women and slaves, but everyone had their benefits from the new religion. This
change in religion was evident through artwork at the time, and the construction of churches across
Europe.
Though Mieszko wasn t ever formally crowned king, for he ruled as a duke, he was one of the best
political, and military leader for his country. He assumed power from his father, Siemomysł, in 964 at
age 30 (Info Poland). He immediately followed in some of the most successful countries footprints in
building up the military and a strong governing system. With his newly developed military, he would
go on conquests to gain territory and expand his nation. He was a very triumphant leader like this and
was quick to make political decisions too. He set up his alliances with other nations, as well.
Surprisingly, his own marriage was a political move. In 965 he married Dobrawa, a Czech princess, to
secure the coalition with her people and move to becoming establishing a better name for his country
(Pulska).
The first major step for Poland s conversion to Christianity was when Mieszko was baptized in 966.

Morality and Spirituality in The Book Bhagavad Gita Essay
In the book Bhagavad Gita, Krishna teaches Arjuna how to reach the highest stage of spirituality, and
ultimately the divine God. Krishna gives Arjuna a clear road map to follow so he can reach this goal.
Yoga is the main tool to obtain spirituality and it takes a lot of hard work and true determination to do
so. The main part of reaching spirituality is to depart this world and sense objects, and build strong
morals. Upon giving up worldly desire, one cannot but seek the Devine and by seeking God, one will
become spiritual. In the book The Last Days of Socrates, Plato describes Socrates reaction to the court
s decision of condemning him to death and how he spent his last few days awaiting death. Throughout
the entire court and while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some of the lessons in The Bhagavad Gita are different from what Socrates believed in, they
ultimately preach the same principles. The principles that Socrates held dear and described in The Last
Days of Socrates can be used to reach the spirituality described by Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita.
Socrates learned through the oracle of Apollo that he is the wisest man, and so he started to cross
examine other scholars to find a wiser man than him and prove the oracle wrong, but he fails every
time. He explains his actions as in obedience to the divine command (Plato 46). Socrates claims that
all the actions he did were to obey the mission God had appointed to him. Socrates believed in his
mission and duty in life, and was brought to death because of that. In the Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna to
love him, worship him, and obey the God so he can reach the ultimate joy. Know what your duty is /
and do it without hesitation (Bhagavad Gita 51). There is an obvious connection between what
Krishna was preaching and what Socrates was doing. Socrates was completing his duties.
In The Bhagavad Gita, Krishna emphasizes on doing actions and being detached of the fruits of
actions and tells Arjuna that: the wise man lets go of all / results, whether good or bad, / and is focused
on the action alone (Bhagavad Gita 55). Socrates followed this principle and did his duty without
caring about the results

GE introduced the first superchargers during World War I, and continued to develop them during the
Interwar period. Superchargers became indispensable in the years immediately prior to World War II,
and GE was the world leader in exhaust driven supercharging when the war started. This experience,
in turn, made GE a natural selection to develop the Whittle W.1 jet engine that was demonstrated in

As I Lay Dying By William Faulkner
As I Lay Dying
William Faulkner
Entry 1
Beginning As I Lay Dying, I am already struggling with the dialect of the novel. This confusion is
deepened because I had no prior knowledge of the characters and plot. There are many characters that
Faulkner mentions in the first twenty five pages of the novels and so I was trying to connect the
characters and find out who was who. Faulkner also constantly refers to Addie as she . This confused
me at first because I didn t know who Faulkner was referring to and how Addie was related to all of
the other characters. I found that as long as I read very slowly and pay attention to detail, I can
understand the language of the story better than I expected. I was able to connect all the characters and

This is making the characters unrelatable so I hope that I improve on understanding the dialect of the
novel.
Entry 3
I find that I am having trouble reading some characters narrations more than others. Cash s narrations
are the simplest to read as his thoughts are fairly straightforward to follow and his narration doesn t
move from one idea to another. Vardaman, Dewey Dell and Darl all have narrations that are difficult
to follow because their thoughts move rapidly from one idea to another. Vardaman is a child and his
narration is the most difficult to understand because of the childish manner it is written in. Dewey Dell
also expresses very complicated thoughts. Dewey Dell begins her narration using only he to identify
who she is thinking about. She also continually refers to herself and him as a tub of guts. Darl is very
thoughtful and his thoughts move from one topic to something completely different and so I find his
narration very difficult to follow.
Entry 4
There have been many examples of animal symbolism in As I Lay Dying. I didn t understand what
Vardaman meant when he first says my mother is a fish (76) and later when Darl says Jewel s mother
is a horse (86). I went back in the novel and read about that the fish Vardaman caught was chopped to
pieces and no longer recognizable. When Vardaman says his mother is a fish, Vardaman is saying that
his mother is no longer recognizable to him

The group was led by myself and included members of a multidisciplinary team of all units involved
in the telemetry process including the managers, nurses, monitor technicians and clinical engineers.
This group selection afforded us an opportunity to share successful approaches, discuss barriers and
create specific strategies acknowledging variation and where in the process steps it could be
eliminated. Multiple barriers in the process were readily identified and the team would meet on a bi
weekly for several months to discuss each process step and decided on countermeasures. An example
of one risk recognized was an interruption in the ECG data recorded between the emergency
department and the data recorded in the telemetry units. This step revealed a possible loss of data and
possible incorrect patient identification of data upon arrival to the unit. The solution was to involve
clinical engineering to create a seamless record for recording the cardiac ECG rhythms from the
emergency room to the inpatient bed. The team scored each FMEA step, agreed upon the risk score
threshold for each actionable items, and finalized the approach. Measurement of post FMEA showed a
reduction in events an important part of evaluating the success of the implemented steps. The action
items were shared with the system NPSG alarm teams and applied where applicable. Additionally, all

Essay On Dementia Diagnosis
Dementia was the leading cause of burden in older Australians in 2011 and the second leading cause
of death in Australia in 2013, making it a national health priority (1, 2). Timely diagnosis of dementia
is essential, as pertinent issues such as options for pharmacological management, prognosis and
Advanced Care Planning (ACP) can be addressed (3, 4). Despite this, multiple barriers hinder timely
dementia diagnosis, ranging from lack of knowledge in recognising dementia symptoms and time
constraints among medical professionals, to fear of stigma, thus resulting in delayed diagnosis (5, 6).

Comparatively, this study shows a larger proportion of patients with dementia being diagnosed in
hospitals. It is important to acknowledge that sampling a population in a subacute hospital in this
study may potentially over represent this. However, it is somewhat concerning to have large
proportions of patients who are first diagnosed with dementia in a hospital setting, as this tends to
occur in the condition of acute medical illness, and may reflect on missed opportunities for earlier
dementia diagnosis when the patient is well, which may have enabled earlier

Horror Stories: Helping or Hindering Many people today love horror stories for the thrills and chills
they get from them. Partaking in a horror story though, isn t just an about a fleeting sense of terror and
the psychology of why people enjoy horror stories is much vaster. Horror stories help us deal with our
anxieties, but also intensify them and make them worse. In the story of The Birds, Du Maurier
demonstrates how illogical and terrifying primitive fears. In contrast Ian Rankin s The Very Last Drop
explores more realistic causes and explanations of the farfetched fears people have. Finally, Bram
Stoker s The Judge s House demonstrates how there are cultural lessons that are shown through a

And this is where the ghost s usually seen, the guide said. So I hope nobody s of a nervous disposition

into a typical ghost story that many people believed to be true but when the police man visit s the
brewery he finds out the truth. He uses logic and deduction to figure out that the resident ghost was
just a front for an accidental murder that had happened sixty years earlier. This story demonstrates that
there is often a very logical and reasonable explanation for things that happen. This teaches the reader
that the supernatural should not be the first conclusion for even everyday occurrences like creaky floor
boards and doors slamming shut. The last thing you want to do when going to sleep at night is
convince yourself the creaking in your house is ghosts instead of the wind. Having a reasonable

Opening Skinner s Box Summary

of many books including the criticized and awarded book of Opening Skinner s Box. This book is
based on the recompilation of many psychological experiments presented as narrated as stories. Some
readers have strong critics about Slater s work because of the way she narrated every experiment.
Slater added personal opinions and experiences during her researches which were printed in her book.

According to Slater, if someone types B.F. Skinner in the Web, we would get thousands of articles
about Skinner s horrible experiments on her daughter (9). Slater started this chapter explaining the
misunderstandings about Skinner s daughter; Deborah was dead according to some people. Deborah
was the famous baby in the box who by many it was a terrible experiment. Slater talks about her
experience when looking at the box where Deborah slept for a couple years. Actually, she clarified
how the box was dismantled but she was able to see a picture. Slater also mentioned how this famous
box was not an outrageous experiment but a safe playpen; this playpen was thermostatically controlled
which would work against diaper rash. Moreover, the box was well equipped to meet all the baby s
necessities and to keep her from hurting herself (23). Many would be impressed by the work Skinner
did to protect her daughter; he must have putted a lot of effort on constructing this playpen for his
daughter. Not every father has the patience to work in a safety box to protect his daughter. We need to
keep this in mind while reading through this chapter because by many Skinner is not a good father.
Now, there are all these erroneous ideas about Skinner hurting his daughter in the famous box when in
reality it was the other way

Nursing Home Evaluation

Team Plan For Team Building
Team building alludes to an array of activities embark on to stimulate or inspire others with a goal of
increasing productivity or performance of the team. Team members have to be encouraged and
motivated to perform a task. Team building is a fundamental process for any organization s success.
The leader s knowledge, skills and ability to implement quality team building activities play a vital
role in the success of the organization. Team members have to unite around a common goal and the
desire to accomplish that goal must be the number one priority of the team. Team building is not a one

Implementing team building activities in such cases should be done by departments. Teams with a

and motivation in higher education settings are (1) a trip out of town and (2) employee of the week by
department.
Off Campus Travel Excursion
The purpose of team building activities is to engage team members in collaboration. Collaboration
stimulates creative thinking, which opens the door for new ideas that increase productivity and
profitability in the organization. Collaboration is essential for unifying team members to accomplish
goals. Creating a collaborative atmosphere encourages team members to support and hold each other
accountable for accomplishing a task or goal. Therefore, the success of an organization depends
largely on how employees function as a cohesive group. One way to get employees to function as a
cohesive group is to get them out of the everyday office environment (Rickert, 2012). Rickert further
shares that, employees form stronger relationships and are more receptive of the each other s strong
points and skills when they gather together outside of normal routines and procedures of the
workplace setting. Employees find traveling to off campus team

Mr. Sousa had stated, We try to attain the quickest services levels possible so the customers do not

How To Use Realism In The Yellow Wall-Paper By Charlotte...
In the past, many authors wrote about the divinity of one with himself and in nature, however, this
transitioned in the late nineteenth century. This literary period, known as realism, targets the everyday
lives of the individual, including a vast amount of details; which The Yellow Wall Paper by Charlotte
Perkins Stetson perfectly illustrates. This psychological short story exemplifies the characteristics of
the realism most effectively by displaying the characters as the essential focus and being critical of
gender roles.

Depression And Its Effects On Depression
Depression is a psychoneurotic disorder characterized by lingering sadness, inactivity, and difficulty in
thinking and concentration. Depression is one of the most common psychiatric conditions encountered
( Depression ). Doctors have all types of antidepressants that have been used worldwide for patients
with depression. Introduced in the late 1950 s, antidepressants were used to accomplish their task by
inhibiting the body s reabsorption of these neurotransmitters, thus allowing them to accumulate and
remain in contact longer with their receptors in nerve cells. Neurotransmitters are a chemical
substance that is released at the end of a nerve fiber by the arrival of a nerve impulse and, by diffusing
across the synapse or junction, causes the transfer of the impulse to another nerve fiber, a muscle fiber,
or some other structure. These changes are important in elevating mood and relieving depression (
Depression 1). But what if we don t need antidepressants or any other drug? What if exercise could
help fight depression naturally without side effects? One in 10 adults in the United States struggles
with depression, and antidepressant medications are a common way to treat the condition. We use
antidepressants too easily for too long, and that they are effective for a few people, if at all . Glasgow

Russian Ballet Dance In The 17th And 18th Century
Poverty and other major problems involving constant combatant situations and invasions Russia faced
in the 17th and 18th centuries led to many adaptations of performance and arts which were centered
around dancing. Due to the exclusivity of proper ballet teachings from known academies many lower
class Russian citizens were innovative in the creation of their own ballet performances. Unlike the
higher social classes who found great significance to formality and the esteem which surrounded
Russian ballet, the lower class had their own take on ballet. Lower class Russian citizens adapted
ballet dances through their peers who had commonly been instructed from a handful of other
interpretations of the dance. (Schmidt, 1988). Because the Russian ballet academies were selective
and difficult to attend many versions of the ballet were formed based upon various interpretations of
the dance. Most commonly ballet dances which were performed by those who were not receiving
ballet direction from institutions were more inventive and lively than the serious demeanor of formal
performances of Russian Ballet.

Problem 2.4: Consider the sample from a bank database shown in Figure 2.14; it was selected
randomly from a larger database to be the training set. Personal Loan indicates whether a solicitation
for a personal loan was accepted and is the response variable. A campaign is planned for a similar
solicitation in the future, and the bank is looking for a model that will identify likely responders.
Examine the data carefully and indicate what your next step would be.
Answer:
Our next step ought to be to get more information where the personal loan was acknowledged. This
sample data has all rejected personal loans, as assuming 0 stands for rejection.
Problem 2.5: Using the concept of overfitting, explain why when a model is fit to training data, zero
error with those data is not necessarily good.
Answer:
Zero error in a training data in most cases shows that the model has fit random noise in the training
data as well. This implies that the model won t sum up well for new or unknown data.
Problem 2.6: In fitting a model to classify prospects as purchasers or non purchasers, a certain

Langston Hughes I Too Essay
Hughes famous poem, I, Too, was written in the mid 1920 s. Similar to most African Americans
pioneers in this era, he felt strongly about racial segregation, (Ilieva and Lennox 1) or racial inequality
and used his writings to voice his opinion on the issue. In I, Too, Hughes states that he is the darker
brother (713) of America, meaning that he is a member of the African American community. At this
particular time, racial inequality was a common issue for African Americans. Jim Crow laws were in
effect to keep African Americans from receiving equal treatment as White Americans. Further

Percussion Instruments Comparison Essay
The difference between a drum and a percussion instrument creates confusion among those that don t
know the intricacies of both instrument categories. While both instruments share similar
characteristics, a drum consists of a very specific type of percussion instrument. Percussionists and
drummers learn very early on to distinguish the difference by identifying the specific characteristics of
each instrument.
Main Differences
Drums fall under the category of percussion instruments. However, not all percussion instruments can
be considered drums. A drum specifically requires the instrument to produce an indefinite pitch and
applies to instruments that are struck with drumsticks, mallets, beaters or the hands. Percussion
instruments include any instrument that can be struck or hit with a mallet or that produces an extra
musical effect.

Each of these instruments historically used an animal skin that was stretched over a membrane. The
skin, or drum head, can then be struck to produce rapidly developing rhythms, booming bass and help
to drive the pulse of the piece forward. Drums must have a skin stretched over the top membrane of
the instrument. For this reason, drums are often referred to as membranophones.
Pitched Percussion
Pitched percussion instruments are also commonly referred to as barred instruments. These
instruments include any percussive instrument that must be struck to create sound, but produce a
definite sound. Some examples of pitched percussion instruments are the xylophone, marimba,
glockenspiel, tubular bells and the celesta. Each of these instruments are commonly available in
symphony orchestras. They serve to provide accents to the main beats of a musical work and color
melodies that double in the woodwind or brass section of the orchestra.

The Life Cycle Of A Star
Everything has a system, a routine, a cycle. For stars, their life cycle can last billions of years. Every
star we see in the night sky is at a different stage in its life cycle. As NASA said, Stars are the most
widely recognized astronomical objects, and represent the most fundamental building blocks of
galaxies.
A star s life cycle is determined by mass; the larger a star is, the shorter its lifespan is. When stars are
formed, they begin as clouds of gas and dust in nebulae. Because of gravity, the matter condenses into
a sphere where hydrogen is combined with helium, forming a protostar. As energy is released through
nuclear fusion, stars enter the main sequence, the longest phase of a star s life where it reaches stable
nuclear reactions.

Dieting Crazes In America
Along with body dissatisfaction, dieting crazes have been a new phenomenon that have spawned from
media s ideal body image. The dieting and weight loss industry makes approximately sixty billion
dollars annually (Williams). That is twenty million dollars more than it made just twenty years ago
(Iggers). This is because sixty seven percent of women are trying to lose weight. The sad part is that
fifty three of these women are a healthy body weight ( Survey ). This increase in the past twenty years
has everything to do with the plethora of media influences in everyday lives. It has created dieting

The Great Blue Heron Adventure
The range of boating adventures I ve experienced in the 1000 Islands is considerable. I recall one
outing that continues to stand out, and I revisit it now as I fondly remember the captain of that
occasion, William E. Browning III, who passed away in 2013. A small contingent of river rats
including Browning and myself were enjoying an evening libation at the St James Hotel Saloon when
Bill said, Tad, I have a group of bird watchers coming from Watertown tomorrow to see what will
soon be the Ironsides Bird Sanctuary. I own this island and I m going to gift it to the Nature
Conservancy. Will you row my guests to shore in your skiff, Bobby, if I come get you in the morning?
Libation being the enemy of reason, I said, Yes. At ten the next morning on August 31, 1965 up the
inside channel between Wauwinet and Cuba Islands came the Canadian with Bill at the helm, and
along with him an entourage of bird watchers, who were preoccupied leafing through their Audubon
manuals and polishing the lenses of their binoculars. Bill s 42 foot Matthews cruiser was a classic of
that wooden cruiser period sporting a covered aft deck and a roomy main salon where the helm was
located. In the bow was a well appointed galley, a head, a table for dining or sleeping, and more bunks
further forward. His nephew, Marc Aylesworth, had joined the party and he hooked the towrope to
Bobby, and off we motored down the main channel six miles to Ironsides Island. This island marks the

An Analysis of Nonviolent Resistance
An Analysis of Nonviolent Resistance The Nonviolent Resistance written by Martin Luther King Jr.
shows the three ways people use to deal with oppression. The first one is acquiescence, which merely
increases the oppressor s contempt. The second way is violence, which merely creates new and more
problems. And the third way is nonviolent resistance, which is the way to guide Negro to harmonic
race relations. Because nonviolent resistance reconciles the acquiescence and violence, it makes
Negro remain in South and struggle for both rights and equality, it helps Negro to achieve the goal of
integration, it mitigates the fears of the white and it reaches people more than the law. Finally,
nonviolent resistance is worthy of being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

children of Israel from the slavery of Egypt to the freedom of the promised land (King 510), and
Religion reminds every man that he is his brother s keeper (King 510). The author uses biblical

audience by his logic, he can still reach them by morally approach. In the third place, the author tries

The Negative Consequences Of Globalization And Culture
Globalization brings more negative consequences that outweighs its benefits. One area it has really
affected that gives me concern is culture . Globalization can be defined as the interaction and
integration amongst people, companies and governments of different nations. Its a process that it s
aided by international trade and investment and driven by information technology extracted from (
globalization101.org) Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people,
encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts (published on livesience by:
zimmermann, July 12, 2017). Globalization has impacted so much negatively on culture. The section
of culture I believe globalization has affected most is the fashion industry, language and the character
of people world wide. Nigeria where I come from is a developing country and we see globalization as
an opportunity for development. This has been one of the major mediums that has earned
globalization the lands of Nigeria to dominate and our culture to alter. In the early centuries in Nigeria,
women used to be known for wearing clothes that fully covered their body. And any woman seen in a
cloth that exposes any sensitive part of her body(shape, breast, lap) was regarded as irresponsible and
in most cases, regarded as a prostitute. Young boys were also known for wearing trousers that weren t
tight on them or sagging . This is no longer the case since Nigeria embraced globalization. Today all
over the streets of Nigeria, indecent dressing has captured the hearts of our youths and even the
elderly. Our young girls now wear mini skirts, slacked blouse that exposes their breast, and also tight
trousers all in the name of civilization . And sadly enough even some married women Have adopted
this pattern of dressing. This has lead to so many divorce and rape cases in Nigeria. Now, most guys
consider sagging of their pants(trousers), wearing tight/ pencil trousers and earrings as fashion. These
are things that was regarded in the early centuries as signs of madness and a show of indiscipline.
Globalization has also impacted negatively on our language system. Our local dialects are no longer
spoken and regarded the way it was in

The Importance Of Online Education
The year 2014 I majored in Information Technology and received my first Online Education class.
Privacy, space, and concentration are what Online Education provided. Online Education has granted
me a greater learning experience than being taught by the few lazy teachers in the past. Teachers
online provide links, videos, and handout guides for every assignment, anything needed to complete
and learn the materials. Not only has Online Education granted me a higher learning experience, but
also saved me an immense amount of money on gas and having the need to drive daily to class and
paying for parking. Many students struggle financially, and online education has saved me a fortune. It
is important to know that Online Education has affected us students in a positive way where we have
the alternative to meet an Education without the need to drive daily to campus. Each year institutions
of higher education has offered more courses that are fully online as well as more that are blended or
hybrid in design format (Hoskins and van Hooff, 2005). Colleges and universities are placing greater
emphasis on increasing online education offerings (Allen and Seaman, 2005).
Online Education is important to have in society, considering that technology revolves around us as a
nation and is going under drastic changes every year and becoming more advanced and in which
anyone can benefit in many ways. As of 2014, at least 25% of the student population at American

Blood Spatter
The understanding of blood spatter patterns is not a widely recognized forensic practice. Bloodstain
pattern interpretation (BPI) is commonly used in murder investigations, but could be utilized in
everything from simple assault to mass murders if the number of trained professionals increased. BPI
can reveal critical information into reinventing a given crime scene. Everything from the number of
blows, stabs or shots a victim was given, the movement that was undergone by the victim and
assailant after bloodshed began, position of objects at the crime scene and the type of weapon, if any,
that was used can be uncovered. Blood differs from water in that it is a less viscous liquid. The
teardrop that is formed by rain is not formed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is flung off the weapon or tool during and after the act as a result of centrifugal force. Cast off
spatter is often elliptical in shape which is why it is easily confused with arterial spurting (Sutton,
1998). However, it can also resemble a typical medium velocity droplet any time the blood hits a
surface. For example, a blow to the top of the head with an over head strike or simply cast off forming
from blood dripping off a weapon after use will result in a similar pattern to a medium or low velocity
droplet. Smooth metallic weaponry used will generate a more profound pattern than a textured
weapon. In other words an aluminum baseball bat will yield a greater amount of cast off blood than a
wooden baseball bat. All these elements are important in uncovering the truth behind a crime scene,
and in a controlled environment seem simple. Implementing these techniques in an actual situation is
more difficult as crime scenes are all unique. A multitude of elements need to be considered before
forming an opinion from blood spatter. Spot size, quantity, shape, distribution, location, AOI, and
target surface are only a few of these elements. As with other types of forensic science negative
evidence can be used in BPI. Void is the absence of blood spatter in an otherwise continuous pattern.
This leads evidence leads us to believe that an object or person has blocked the blood from striking the
surface observed. Judging from

Negative Effects Of Mass Media
The Negative Effects of Mass Media Mass media surrounds the lives of our global society. Dating
back to centuries, the media is prominent through the modes of television, internet, and paper press.
Media is the main means of mass communication in the twenty first century, and is the central source
of information for the general public. A new form of media, social media, has gained popularity in
recent years. The First social media platform was born in 1997 with the launch of the first social
media site, Six Degrees, a site meant to connect people worldwide. By the year 2000, nearly one
hundred million people gained access to the internet, which resulted in more people becoming active
on social media sites. Six Degrees worked as a foundation for other social media like: myspace,
facebook, twitter, instagram, and snapchat. Mass media negatively impacts students, politics, and
incites racial tensions in society today. Media today is faulty and brainwashes students. A study found
that, If the children are the future, the future might be very ill informed (Domonoske). Domonoske
claims that the news feeds untrue and biased information to students; these students of today s society
will grow up to be the future. It is imperative that students receive true and reputable information from
the media. If they are not now, well informed, then a society filled with uneducated individuals will
reside. Malinformation generates arguments that can become more serious and turn into a much bigger
problem. To avoid this, highly intellectual people must attempt to find a way for students to be well
informed. Researches have taken the time to study the influence media has on students. In a recent
study, Stanford researchers that evaluated students ability to assess information sources and described
the results as dismaying, bleak and [a] threat to democracy (Domonoske). The study proved that
students do not know how to determine fake from real information. If there is no way for students to
receive true and unbiased information from news sources then they should develop the skills to assess
any material presented to them. Today, they do not possess the ability to single out untrue and
opinionated statements. They are

Dna Marker Research Paper
A DNA marker (size standard or a DNA ladder) is loaded into the first well of the gel. The fragments
in the marker are of a known length so it can be used to help approximate the size of the fragments in
the samples. The prepared DNA samples are then pipetted into the remaining wells of the gel. When
this is done the lid is placed on the electrophoresis tank making sure that the orientation of the gel and
positive and negative electrodes is correct. To separate the fragments, the electrical current is then
turned on so that the negatively charged DNA moves through the gel towards the positive side of the
gel. The distance the DNA has migrated in the gel can be judged visually by monitoring the migration
of the loading buffer dye. The electrical current is left on long enough to ensure that the DNA
fragments move far enough across the gel to separate them, but not so long that they run off the end of
the gel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To visualize the DNA, the gel is stained with a fluorescent dye that binds to the DNA, and is placed on

marker/size standard will be visible. It is then possible to judge the size of the DNA in the sample by
imagining a horizontal line running across from the bands of the DNA marker. The size of the DNA
can be estimated in the sample by matching them against the closest band in the

The Effect Of Desalination On An Ecological Balance By...
1.0 Introduction
The process of desalination is to remove salt (Oxford English Dictionary, 2014 ) from a currently
saline water source. This means that in places of very or relatively low precipitation, a source of fresh
water is still available. This method of obtaining drinking water is expensive, therefore only certain
nations can afford it.
Sustainability is defined as conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural
resources (Oxford English Dictionary, 2014 ). This comes in three forms. These are economic,
environmental and social sustainability. In terms of whether desalination is sustainable, sustainability
must be present in all three factors. If one of the forms is not present, then it is not fully ... Show more

This figure is staggering and by constructing and developing desalination plants, this figure can be
reduced as more fresh drinking water will become available to people.
However, the process of desalination is not easy to do on a large scale in underdeveloped areas due to
the cost of the energy input, as well as taking into account the environmental issues alongside it.
Desalination is a difficult process to do inland, partly for accessing the water, which would have to be
obtained from aquifers (Elsaid et al., 2012) and partly for having to dispose of the brine. Therefore, it
is a process which is mainly found in coastal areas.
1.1 The desalination process
Desalination works through reverse osmosis, this process removes 99% of the salt and cleans the
water (Government of South Australia, 2014).
Water undergoing reverse osmosis goes through a number of stages. It starts with pre treatment where
the water is treated to a certain level to get rid of any solids and to bring the pH to the required level,
as well as adding a threshold inhibitor which controls scaling from chemicals such as calcium sulphate
(Organisation of American States, 2014 ). After this pre treatment, the water goes through
pressurisation, where the pre treated water is filtered through membranes, reducing the salinity of the
water. Following this, a process of separation is used which inhibits dissolved salts, while allowing the

An Example Of Impression Management Theory
Making good impressions in significant throughout life, it is human nature to be concerned with how
you are perceived to others. People have a certain expectation on how they view themselves and what
other to view them. Impression management is a conscious or subconscious process in which people
attempt to influence the perceptions of other people about a person, object or event. They do so by
regulating and controlling information in social interaction.[1] It was first conceptualized by Erving
Goffman in 1959, and then got expanded in 1967. An example of impression management theory in
play is in sports such as soccer. At an important game, a player would want to showcase themselves in
the best light possible, because there are college recruiters watching. Without a doubt, this person
would have the flashiest pair of cleats and try and perform their best to show off their skills. Their
main goal may not be to win the game but instead to impress the college recruiters in a way that
increases their chances of being chosen for a college team.[2]
Impression management is usually used synonymously with self presentation, in which a person tries
to influence the perception of their image. The notion of impression management was first applied in
face to face communication, but then was applied to computer mediated communication. Also this
concept was applied into different field of study from academic research in the field of psychology
and sociology to practical fields such as

The Importance Of Doing Business In Canada
Doing business in Canada is often synonymous with North American business practices. In most cases
there is little difference in managerial style, business language and approach to agreements whether

however. Doing business in indigenous communities and with indigenous peoples in Canada is almost
unrecognizable from models used across North America. Indigenous culture is different, the values are

intrusive legislation and regulation. (Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, 2014) Communication

not the first languages used by indigenous peoples, long pauses and quiet tones are often used when
Western culture would dictate otherwise. Prolonged eye contact, a sign of genuineness in western

I think Special K does a better job of capturing their audience than Wheaties because of the success in
their ethos pertaining to their audience. While women or other adults are reviewing the advertisement,
they don t have to think twice about false information because they are looking at a credible source
portraying health facts right in plain site. However, Wheaties on the other hand lacks in their ethos
towards their audience. Of course there are health facts, but when it comes to their main point of the
breakfast of a champion, customers can imply it is simply just a way to pull customers in because
there is no proof of one becoming an actual champion or excelling just because they had Wheaties for

Melina Marchetta s Looking For Alibrandi And The Asian...
Melina Marchetta s Looking for Alibrandi compared and contrasted to Simone Lazaroo s The Asian
Disease exhibited in Alice Pung s anthology Growing up Asian in Australia both explore the cultural
expectations which subsequent to behaviours of detachment from tradition evidenced in the children
of migrant families. Since complying to such unreasonable conditions is arduous for the protagonists
in both texts, teenage girl Josie and the ill father are both victims to the loss of their individual identity
in consequence to their traditional expectations. Such bereavement of personality is depicted
throughout the texts when both characters undergo the harsh criticism of others which defines racism,
the lowering of their self esteem in result of the oppression they endure and the substantial struggle of
Josie and the father having to establish a fulfilling life for themselves. Exhibiting racial identity and
cultural expectancies of both backgrounds as a main factor of the exploited racism towards the
protagonists, Marchetta and Lazaroo both discuss the severe judgement that the migrants suffer
through, contributing to their loss of identity. Looking for Alibrandi s protagonist, upper class school
student Josie s oppression is promptly unveiled in the beginning of the text, declaring that she is an

Bull Float
Running the Bull Float Pouring concrete is a huge part of America s past. The Hoover Dam is entirely
made of concrete. The Dam was erected of 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete while all of its
additional facilities were an additional 1.11 million cubic yards of concrete (Arbeiter). That s 4.36
million cubic yards of concrete! Assuming that the average price of a yard of concrete is one hundred
dollars in today s standards that adds up to 436,000,000 dollars for the concrete alone! That price
doesn t include the worker s wages, the price of steel and metal that has to be put into the concrete,
and even the price it cost to build the temporary diversions of the river so that the dam could be
constructed.
Since the start of last school year, I have probably poured a total of over one hundred cubic yards of
concrete. Later on I will explain how to calculate what a cubic yard is, but for now, just know that
concrete is no joke. Everyone involved must be focused at all times and if anyone fails to complete
their job, then the entire pour could go downhill quickly. After reading this essay, I hope you learn to
not only respect the amount of effort and work required to have a successful concrete pour but also to
learn some of the basic things involved in concrete. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most pours require you to own a bull float. A bull float is an approximately three foot wide piece of
metal attached to the end of a series of poles. This is used when finishing the concrete. You start by
setting the float angled at approximately a thirty degree incline and run the float across the concrete.
When you make it to the other side of the pad, you need to reverse the floats angle and have a one
hundred and fifty degree angle instead. Newer bull floats have twistable handles which come in very
handy. Older ones, however, you just have to rise up into the air really high to reach the desired

Imagery In The Great Gatsby Analysis
Imagery is used in writing when a writer trying to emphasis a specific key element, or portray a clear
picture for the reader to understand. Throughout the book, The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses
imagery to paint a vivid picture for the reader. Imagery is used to describe specific key elements of a
story which is shown in The Great Gatsby. Imagery was portrayed for the reader especially when it
comes to the setting and characters. In the movie however, imagery was shown both similar and
differently. The movie focuses a lot on the setting and charters but also shows imagery of other small
factors. Imagery was both present in both the book and the movie, both the movie and book had
similar routes of incorporating the imageries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his blue garden men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne
and the stars. (Fitzgerald 39) This imagery compared the people and guests invited to the party to
moths because clusters of people would walk in and out of the house and the house was stuffed and
packed with guests. This imagery was also shown in the movie, in one scene the movie portrays the
blue garden with tons of couples and guest dancing along the blue garden. Imagery also played a big
part in describing the Valley of the Ashes illustrated in chapter two of the book. Nick, the narrator
describes The Valley of Ashes as the land that lies in between the Eggs and New York. The name
Valley of the Ashes was given to this specify area is given due to its horrible conditions. This area was
very unpleasant and is considered the dead land or the waste land. This is a valley of ashes, a fantastic
farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the
forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who
move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air. (Fitzgerald 23) This imagery portrays
lower social class at the time period. The Valley of Ashes is very symbolic to the book as it symbolizes
the plight of the poor, and characters such as George Wilson, who lives in the

  • 2. Christianity in Poland and the Church of St. Florian Religion is a defining factor of what gave people a common identity; so in order to feel connected with one another, rulers would take it upon themselves to unite their kingdoms and establish a universal religion. During the late middle ages Christianity was on the rise. It was widely accepted and appealed mostly to women and slaves, but everyone had their benefits from the new religion. This change in religion was evident through artwork at the time, and the construction of churches across Europe. Though Mieszko wasn t ever formally crowned king, for he ruled as a duke, he was one of the best political, and military leader for his country. He assumed power from his father, Siemomysł, in 964 at age 30 (Info Poland). He immediately followed in some of the most successful countries footprints in building up the military and a strong governing system. • 3. Morality and Spirituality in The Book Bhagavad Gita Essay In the book Bhagavad Gita, Krishna teaches Arjuna how to reach the highest stage of spirituality, and ultimately the divine God. Krishna gives Arjuna a clear road map to follow so he can reach this goal. Yoga is the main tool to obtain spirituality and it takes a lot of hard work and true determination to do so. The main part of reaching spirituality is to depart this world and sense objects, and build strong morals. Upon giving up worldly desire, one cannot but seek the Devine and by seeking God, one will become spiritual. Although some of the lessons in The Bhagavad Gita are different from what Socrates believed in, they ultimately preach the same principles. The principles that Socrates held dear and described in The Last Days of Socrates can be used to reach the spirituality described by Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita. Socrates learned through the oracle of Apollo that he is the wisest man, and so he started to cross examine other scholars to find a wiser man than him and prove the oracle wrong, but he fails every time. He explains his actions as in obedience to the divine command (Plato 46). Socrates claims that all the actions he did were to obey the mission God had appointed to him. Socrates believed in his mission and duty in life, and was brought to death because of that. In the Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna to love him, worship him, and obey the God so he can reach the ultimate joy. Know what your duty is / and do it without hesitation (Bhagavad Gita 51). There is an obvious connection between what Krishna was preaching and what Socrates was doing. Socrates was completing his duties. In The Bhagavad Gita, Krishna emphasizes on doing actions and being detached of the fruits of actions and tells Arjuna that: the wise man lets go of all / results, whether good or bad, / and is focused on the action alone (Bhagavad Gita 55). Socrates followed this principle and did his duty without caring about the results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This confusion is deepened because I had no prior knowledge of the characters and plot. Faulkner also constantly refers to Addie as she . This confused me at first because I didn t know who Faulkner was referring to and how Addie was related to all of the other characters. Cash s narrations are the simplest to read as his thoughts are fairly straightforward to follow and his narration doesn t move from one idea to another. Vardaman, Dewey Dell and Darl all have narrations that are difficult to follow because their thoughts move rapidly from one idea to another. Vardaman is a child and his narration is the most difficult to understand because of the childish manner it is written in. Dewey Dell also expresses very complicated thoughts. Dewey Dell begins her narration using only he to identify who she is thinking about. She also continually refers to herself and him as a tub of guts. Darl is very thoughtful and his thoughts move from one topic to something completely different and so I find his narration very difficult to follow. Entry 4 There have been many examples of animal symbolism in As I Lay Dying. I didn t understand what Vardaman meant when he first says my mother is a fish (76) and later when Darl says Jewel s mother is a horse (86). Depression is one of the most common psychiatric conditions encountered ( Depression ). Doctors have all types of antidepressants that have been used worldwide for patients with depression. • 26. Percussion Instruments Comparison Essay The difference between a drum and a percussion instrument creates confusion among those that don t know the intricacies of both instrument categories. While both instruments share similar characteristics, a drum consists of a very specific type of percussion instrument. Percussionists and drummers learn very early on to distinguish the difference by identifying the specific characteristics of each instrument. Main Differences Drums fall under the category of percussion instruments. However, not all percussion instruments can be considered drums. A drum specifically requires the instrument to produce an indefinite pitch and applies to instruments that are struck with drumsticks, mallets, beaters or the hands. Percussion instruments include any instrument that can be struck or hit with a mallet or that produces an extra musical effect. Drum Instruments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pitched Percussion Pitched percussion instruments are also commonly referred to as barred instruments. These instruments include any percussive instrument that must be struck to create sound, but produce a definite sound. Some examples of pitched percussion instruments are the xylophone, marimba, glockenspiel, tubular bells and the celesta. Each of these instruments are commonly available in symphony orchestras. Every star we see in the night sky is at a different stage in its life cycle. As NASA said, Stars are the most widely recognized astronomical objects, and represent the most fundamental building blocks of galaxies. A star s life cycle is determined by mass; the larger a star is, the shorter its lifespan is. When stars are formed, they begin as clouds of gas and dust in nebulae. Because of gravity, the matter condenses into a sphere where hydrogen is combined with helium, forming a protostar. As energy is released through nuclear fusion, stars enter the main sequence, the longest phase of a star s life where it reaches stable nuclear reactions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I recall one outing that continues to stand out, and I revisit it now as I fondly remember the captain of that occasion, William E. Browning III, who passed away in 2013. A small contingent of river rats including Browning and myself were enjoying an evening libation at the St James Hotel Saloon when Bill said, Tad, I have a group of bird watchers coming from Watertown tomorrow to see what will soon be the Ironsides Bird Sanctuary. • 31. The Negative Consequences Of Globalization And Culture Globalization brings more negative consequences that outweighs its benefits. One area it has really affected that gives me concern is culture . Globalization can be defined as the interaction and integration amongst people, companies and governments of different nations. Its a process that it s aided by international trade and investment and driven by information technology extracted from ( globalization101.org) Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts (published on livesience by: zimmermann, July 12, 2017). Globalization has impacted so much negatively on culture. The section of culture I believe globalization has affected most is the fashion industry, language and the character of people world wide. Nigeria where I come from is a developing country and we see globalization as an opportunity for development. This has been one of the major mediums that has earned globalization the lands of Nigeria to dominate and our culture to alter. In the early centuries in Nigeria, women used to be known for wearing clothes that fully covered their body. And any woman seen in a cloth that exposes any sensitive part of her body(shape, breast, lap) was regarded as irresponsible and in most cases, regarded as a prostitute. Young boys were also known for wearing trousers that weren t tight on them or sagging . This is no longer the case since Nigeria embraced globalization. Today all over the streets of Nigeria, indecent dressing has captured the hearts of our youths and even the elderly. Our young girls now wear mini skirts, slacked blouse that exposes their breast, and also tight trousers all in the name of civilization . And sadly enough even some married women Have adopted this pattern of dressing. This has lead to so many divorce and rape cases in Nigeria. Now, most guys consider sagging of their pants(trousers), wearing tight/ pencil trousers and earrings as fashion. These are things that was regarded in the early centuries as signs of madness and a show of indiscipline. Globalization has also impacted negatively on our language system. Everything from the number of blows, stabs or shots a victim was given, the movement that was undergone by the victim and assailant after bloodshed began, position of objects at the crime scene and the type of weapon, if any, that was used can be uncovered. It is flung off the weapon or tool during and after the act as a result of centrifugal force. Cast off spatter is often elliptical in shape which is why it is easily confused with arterial spurting (Sutton, 1998). However, it can also resemble a typical medium velocity droplet any time the blood hits a surface. For example, a blow to the top of the head with an over head strike or simply cast off forming from blood dripping off a weapon after use will result in a similar pattern to a medium or low velocity droplet. Smooth metallic weaponry used will generate a more profound pattern than a textured weapon. In other words an aluminum baseball bat will yield a greater amount of cast off blood than a wooden baseball bat. All these elements are important in uncovering the truth behind a crime scene, and in a controlled environment seem simple. Implementing these techniques in an actual situation is more difficult as crime scenes are all unique. A multitude of elements need to be considered before forming an opinion from blood spatter. Spot size, quantity, shape, distribution, location, AOI, and target surface are only a few of these elements. As with other types of forensic science negative evidence can be used in BPI. Dating back to centuries, the media is prominent through the modes of television, internet, and paper press. Media is the main means of mass communication in the twenty first century, and is the central source of information for the general public. A new form of media, social media, has gained popularity in recent years. The First social media platform was born in 1997 with the launch of the first social media site, Six Degrees, a site meant to connect people worldwide. By the year 2000, nearly one hundred million people gained access to the internet, which resulted in more people becoming active on social media sites. Six Degrees worked as a foundation for other social media like: myspace, facebook, twitter, instagram, and snapchat. Mass media negatively impacts students, politics, and incites racial tensions in society today. Media today is faulty and brainwashes students. A study found that, If the children are the future, the future might be very ill informed (Domonoske). Domonoske claims that the news feeds untrue and biased information to students; these students of today s society will grow up to be the future. The fragments in the marker are of a known length so it can be used to help approximate the size of the fragments in the samples. The prepared DNA samples are then pipetted into the remaining wells of the gel. When this is done the lid is placed on the electrophoresis tank making sure that the orientation of the gel and positive and negative electrodes is correct. To separate the fragments, the electrical current is then turned on so that the negatively charged DNA moves through the gel towards the positive side of the gel. The distance the DNA has migrated in the gel can be judged visually by monitoring the migration of the loading buffer dye. This means that in places of very or relatively low precipitation, a source of fresh water is still available. This method of obtaining drinking water is expensive, therefore only certain nations can afford it. Sustainability is defined as conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources (Oxford English Dictionary, 2014 ). This comes in three forms. However, the process of desalination is not easy to do on a large scale in underdeveloped areas due to the cost of the energy input, as well as taking into account the environmental issues alongside it. Desalination is a difficult process to do inland, partly for accessing the water, which would have to be obtained from aquifers (Elsaid et al., 2012) and partly for having to dispose of the brine. Therefore, it is a process which is mainly found in coastal areas. 1.1 The desalination process Desalination works through reverse osmosis, this process removes 99% of the salt and cleans the water (Government of South Australia, 2014). Water undergoing reverse osmosis goes through a number of stages. It starts with pre treatment where the water is treated to a certain level to get rid of any solids and to bring the pH to the required level, as well as adding a threshold inhibitor which controls scaling from chemicals such as calcium sulphate (Organisation of American States, 2014 ). After this pre treatment, the water goes through pressurisation, where the pre treated water is filtered through membranes, reducing the salinity of the water. Following this, a process of separation is used which inhibits dissolved salts, while allowing the rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People have a certain expectation on how they view themselves and what other to view them. Impression management is a conscious or subconscious process in which people attempt to influence the perceptions of other people about a person, object or event. They do so by regulating and controlling information in social interaction.[1] It was first conceptualized by Erving Goffman in 1959, and then got expanded in 1967. At an important game, a player would want to showcase themselves in the best light possible, because there are college recruiters watching. Without a doubt, this person would have the flashiest pair of cleats and try and perform their best to show off their skills. Their main goal may not be to win the game but instead to impress the college recruiters in a way that increases their chances of being chosen for a college team.[2] Impression management is usually used synonymously with self presentation, in which a person tries to influence the perception of their image.
