American Soul And Jazz Poet Gilbert Essay
American soul and jazz poet Gilbert Gil Scott Heron was born in Chicago, Illinois April 1, 1949.
It seems he got his singing talents from his mother who was an opera singer that performed with
the New York Oratorio Society. His father was a football player and was the first black man to play
for Celtic football club. Gil was also an author and musician and known for being a spoken word
performer. This was in the 1970s and 1980s and majority of his work was regarding political and
social matter. Some of Gil works include: Pieces of A Man and Winter in America which helped
inspired African Americanmusic genre like hip hop and neo soul. He was sentenced to jail two
times, in 2001 and in 2006 for some type of drug procession; after his sentenced, Gil returned to
writing his book called The Last Holiday which was about Steven wonder and his strive to make
the birthday of Martin Luther King a Holiday in America. I m New Here is another work of
Gilbert; it was slightly different from his other works because it was a memoir and he was
working on it until his passing. Unfortunately, Gilbert passed away in New York at St. Luke s
Hospital on May 27, 2011; earlier, he admitted to having HIV and had been to the hospital before
for pneumonia. In 2012 he was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and he is also
included in the exhibits at the National Museum of American History that was opened on
September 24, 2016. Heron work received a massive amount of attention, mostly

Comparison Of Aristotle And Aquinas And The Highest Good
Comparison of Aristotle and Aquinas and the highest good Both Aristotle and Aquinas were
prominent philosophers who wrote profound works that discussed the concept of a highest human
good. They also included their own terms of achieving aforesaid good. In Aristotle s Nicomachean
Ethics, the highest good is a state of constant seeking as a way of achieving full capacity as a human
. The writings of Aquinas have some similarities to the writings of Aristotle, however, in Treatise
on Law, he discusses the type and elements of law and allowed the role of God to influence his
ideas. His analysis of law ultimately names the highest human good as being in the perfect
community with God. Aquinas s argument supports obedience to law, preexisting inclinations for
the good, and a resolution. Aristotle requires that the person constantly seek to know and be at
work, which can act as a positive force that drives humans to improve themselves. In Book One of
the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle argues for an ultimate end, and that knowledge of the good
should be influential and important to all human life. He explains that it is better to act aimed at
the good of the whole, meaning society, and transcend the level of individual preservation
(1094b5 1094b10). Aquinas created a hierarchy of rules to follow when acting in the name of the
good. There is a specific order of the precepts of natural law. The lowest inclination affects all
substances and is the desire to preserve the self. Next,

It is an honor for me to lead Pfizer at this important time for both our company and the industry. I

in terms of customers needs, regulatory standards and where growth occurs. Among these changes,
one of the most important has been the increasing pressure from payers, governments and society to
deliver greater value. That s why I believe there is a fundamental question facing the industry and

Holden Caulfield s The Catcher In The Rye
In the coming of age novel, The Catcher in the Rye, throughout the novel Holden Caulfield is
surrounded by many different people and places which bring him together as a whole. Holden
begins the novel at his private school, Pencey Prep. In his last days at Pencey his roommate
Stradlater and a schoolmate, Ackley is introduced. Being around Ackley clearly annoys Holden,
he often has to ignore Ackley or be sarcastic just so he stops bothering him. It s obvious that
Holden swears, A lot! Most of his phrases are Goddam bastard or crummy bastard . Stradlater is
also a big issue with Holden; he s viewed as cocky, full of himself and rude. The last straw Holden
had with Stradlater is when they got in a physical altercation over Jane Gallagher leaving

Essay on Global Positioning Systems
Global Positioning Systems
The possibilities for the future afforded to the human race by the technology created today is
endless. However, one technology has already and will continue to change the way people travel
around the planet: Global Positioning Systems (GPS). For travelers throughout history, figuring
out where they were and where they were going was one of the oldest problems. Even in recent
years, navigation and positioning was crucial to many activities but extremely cumbersome.
However, in its need for a precise form of global positioning, the Department of Defense (DoD)
created the most useful navigation system in history. The creation and production of the GPS
system by Rockwell Collins changed the way people travel ... Show more content on

The receiver simultaneously measures the distance to a second satellite and creates a similar sphere
for the second satellite. The area where the two spheres intersect narrows the possible location of
the receiver to a circular area. Finally, the receiver measures the distance to a third satellite and
cross references third sphere with the first two spheres. The intersection of the third sphere with
the first two spheres then narrows the possible location of the receiver to two points. In order to
locate the exact position of the receiver on earth, the system employs one of two methods. The first
method is for the system to take a measurement to a fourth satellite, which is often done for other
reasons described later. The alternate method is to mathematically throw out one of the answers,
which can often be done since one point is located in space or is not otherwise plausible.
The question that naturally follows is how a receiver is able to make a distance measurement from
its position on earth to the satellites orbiting the earth. The basic physics theory used to determine
distance is the speed of the signal multiplied by the time it took to travel from the satellite to the
receiver. Since radio waves are used to communicate between the satellite and the receiver, the
speed of the transmission is known to be the speed of light or 186,000 miles per second. However,
the determination of time is trickier since the time traveled is short, usually on the order

Cultural Heritage Of The French Tourism
Tourism in France is an important activity, both for the French who choose to spend their holidays,
and foreigners who come to stay. Thus, since 1990, France became the first tourist destination in the
world. The tourist attraction of France is due to the large number and wide variety of points of
interest, diversity of landscapes, the rich cultural and artistic heritage, the temperate climate and
ease of access and transport infrastructure, but also the important equipment in the country and
varied reception facilities (hotels, amusement parks...). Thus, each department is a French tourist
department with several points of interest. France has a rich well known cultural heritage, favored
by many sites listed as World Heritage of UNESCO. The French tourismhas many different facets
and positive economic impacts and France makes every effort to maintain the liveliness of this
important asset. The history of tourism in France began around 1760 in the south of France in
Hyeres, becoming a common winter resort renowned among UK thanks to its relatively mild
Mediterranean climate. In 1910 Alexandre Millerand, the French Minister of Public Works at the
time, created the first tourism office, with the desire to promote those places that must be
contemplated and visited by many. The intellectual vision that covers his entourage will then
change since we will be more aware of our surroundings. We decide consciously to build tourism in
these places. However, the trip is

Violence In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Every author writes a book to depict a lesson or meaning. Things Fall Apart talked about the
various things that cease to exist. There were two main things that fell apart in this book: the
main character Okonkwo and religion. The meaning of this book was to show that life is full of
conflicts and if they are not confronted or solved correctly, something or someone will collapse.
Several scenes of violence were found in this book. These scenes existed to contribute to the
overall meaning of the complete work. One scene of violence made a significant impact to
Okonkwo. It was the day of Ezedu s funeral and guns were fired in the air. At this time, Okonkwo s
gun exploded and a piece of iron pierced through a boy s heart. The boy was one of Ezedu s... Show

This scene contributed to the meaning of the novel by showing how just one act will change
everything. Okonkwo fought to kill the missionaries and defended his clan and their beliefs.
However, he fell into disappointment when he found that no one backed him. Everyone was in
an uproar instead of preparing to fight. Okonkwo saw that Umuofia had changed and felt sorrow.
He found that the men who were once strong and brave were now weak and scared. The clan was
hopeless. The messengers who ran away will possibly come back with more men and Umuofia
will end up like Abame. Finding it pointless to stay in a place in which there was femininity in men
and in which his beliefs were abandoned, Okonkwo killed himself. This scene portrayed not only
the destruction of Okonkwo, but the destruction of the entire clan. The missionaries brought change
and successfully converted some Ibo to Christianity. Eventually, everyone will be Christian because
no one was brave enough to confront the missionaries and defend their religion. Change and the
clash of cultures caused things to fall

Critical Care Case Study: Care of the patient with multi system organ failure
Allen Hale, 27 years old, was admitted to the ED of a community hospital after running a red light
in his car and colliding with another car. The patient was intubated in the field. A left pleural chest
tube was placed in the ED. He also has a visibly fractured left femur. A total body CT scan reveals
a left parietal subdural hematoma and a flail chest with L pneumothorax and pulmonary contusions.
He has no intra abdominal issues.
Since Allen arrived in the ED, he has been responding to noxious stimuli only. His bloodalcohol
level was 200 mg/dl (0.2% weight/volume) and there was indication of marijuana on his
toxicology screen. The health care team was unable to determine if he had a durable power of
attorney or any family who could make a decision for him. He needs to go emergently to the OR.
How should the healthcare team proceed prior to surgery?
1.List 3 rationales for proceeding with surgical intervention with an individual who may be unable
to give fully informed consent.

Body Cameras Argument Analysis
We live in a world where we communicate with many individuals in different ways. A debate is a
structured argument, in which it conducts two sides of an argument where individuals are either
affirmative and negative side. The first affirmative speaker begins the argument and is then
followed by the first negative speaker. When given the debatetopic, my group and I were told that
we will be debating the issue on body cameras, in which we resolve that the body camera should
or should not be implemented by police officers across the U.S.
It is important to understand what makes a great debate topic in order to win the argument. When

Dan Rothwell, Rothwell mentioned an important fact, which should be done by anyone who
does any sort of speech, he had stated that oral style works most effectively when language is
clear and understandable (Rothwell,2014). I agree with this statement because I allow my
nervousness to take over, in which it causes me to stutter on my words, pause for a few seconds
and sometimes even wanting to give up because of the embarrassment. It is important for your
style of language to be understood and clear no matter the way you do. Of course, you cannot do
a speech in which you use word slang, which is something else that Rothwell touched upon in the
reading. Moreover, a debate becomes more effective by the way you connect with your audience,
for example like pathos, ethos and logos. However, when during my debate, I believe my team and
I brought the emotions of pathos. In which Rothwell define pathos as Although logic and evidence
can be very persuasive, especially for highly involved listeners, emotional appeals
(Rothwell,2014). We provide our audience with real evidence, when we contact the police
department, which caught the audience attention and wanting to keep listening. As well as for
logos, which is defined as building argument based on logic and evidence (Rothwell, 2014), I
believe my teammates and I provide great evidence and information to back up the debate on body

industries want to produce because people may even have different attitudes and value toward the

Switching Costs
Since there are many stores, like McDonald s and Starbucks that are also providing all kinds of
healthy smoothies with a price that is similar to Jamba Juice s, buyers actually will not face high
switching costs. Therefore, low switching costs enhance the bargaining power of buyers.
Product is Undifferentiated
Even though Jamba Juice advertizes that its products are healthy, low in calories and rich in
vitamins, many other stores also provide the similar smoothies or fast foods. This indicates that
Jamba Juice s products are not differentiated. Consumers can still find products in other stores that
are familiar to Jamba Juice s, which enhances the power of buyers.
Power of suppliers
For restaurant retailers, the power of suppliers is high. This can be indicated by lack of substitute
produces and low importance of restaurants as buyers.
Availability of Substitutes
Although Jamba Juice demands a large amount of agricultural commodities to help produce the
healthy and organic smoothies, these commodities are limited. There are not other substitutes can
replace these agricultural commodities to make smoothies as healthy as the organic raw materials.
Hence, this gives the suppliers the opportunities to raise the price or decrease the quality of the
agricultural commodities.
Importance of Customer to Supplier
Besides Jamba Juice, many restaurant and foodservice stores need agricultural commodities. If

It gives students a better understanding of their academic abilities and prevents students from being
powerless in their own education. Grades have served to dehumanize students. Instead of being
seen as full, complete beings they are reduce to A students, C students, and students failing the
class. This judgment is not only made by their teachers but by society as a whole. Parents often
set standards for what their kids grades need to be and punish them if they don t reach the mark.
Friends and classmates compare the results of tests and report cards, making learning into a
competition where some are better than others. Additionally, and perhaps the most disturbingly,
for some students, grades become a reflection of their own worth. It doesn t help that in many
ways our future is defined by our GPA. In a world where grades carry such weight, they can
seem awfully fatalistic. A streak of bad ones can look like the end of a dream career. A friend of
mine is facing just that reality. Her GPA is lower than she expects and lower than what it takes to

Evolution Of The Baseball Bat
The evolution of the baseball bat dates back to when baseball was a growing sport. The first
wood bats cannot be compared with today s wood bats, and the BESR bats of the past cannot be
compared with the modern BBCOR bats. The first wood baseball bats were considered sticks
because they did not have a lot of pop, which is how hard the ball bounces off of the bat. As the
wood bat progressed, the ball began to fly farther and travel faster. This change in wood baseball
bats can be related to the change in metal bats. When metal bats were first introduced, they were
considered inferior to wood bats until the new and improved BESR bats were introduced. These
bats had more pop than ever before, and were considered dangerous. Because of this danger, the
BBCOR bats had to be introduced in 2011. Because of the major advances in technology, bat
manufacturers are able to tune the bats to the BBCOR certifiable level. The introduction of
BBCOR bats into college and high school baseball has moved the game in a positive direction by
making baseball more realistic, creating a safer game, and making it easier to project a player s
future.
First of all, baseball bats come in many different shapes and sizes for all levels of play. The youth
baseball bats have a different level of pop than the adult version of the baseball bats. For instance,
the youth baseball bats have a pop level of 1.15, and the adult versions of the bats have a pop level
of .50. When a ball hits the barrel of any bat, it

A Comparison Of The Seven Year Itch, Trifles
In the past few weeks we have read several plays, The Seven Year Itch, Trifles, and Pomp and
Circumstance. Many aspects of them have stuck out to me, such as the setting and the personalities
of the characters in them. Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in
different time periods. The era that a play takes place can impact its direction due to differences in
social classes and boundaries and even how the opposite sex is treated.
The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play
takes place is 1952. There is a big difference between this play and Trifles; women had more
freedom to do what they wanted and some of them even held jobs now, although rather low ... Show

Up until the 1940 s women were pretty much property to their fathers and husbands. They cleaned
and did most of all the housework, while men went out and worked. In the early years of the 1900s
women were not allowed to own property in their own name; the woman s property that she did
own became her husband s when married. Women who protested in the Progressive Movement
were reported as being neurotic, wanting to intimidate men, be hysterical and homosexual. In only
four states were women allowed to vote, most urban areas were less tolerable of this issue (
Progressive ). Trifles is an accurate example of the treatment women had in the American home.
Mrs. Wright was basically a prisoner in her own home. The women noticed things such as broken

shown that she was unhappy with her new life. Mrs. Wright used to love to sing, but her husband
made her quit. While the men belittled the women s investigations around the Wright home, the
women pretty much solved the crime. They did keep Mrs. Wright out of trouble by not telling the
men about their new discoveries. That goes to show that women tend to pay more attention to the
finer details while it may go unnoticed by an uncaring eye

Why Did Hitler Hate Jews
Hitler could have hated the Jews because his mother Klara was suffering from breast cancer, a
Jewish physician named Eduard Bloch was taking care of her and treating her so that she would

suffering badly and she lost her battle to cancer, he might have wanted to take revenge on Eduard
because he lost a loved one in his life.
Another reason Hitler could have hated the Jews is because Hitler did not want the Jews to end up

Loa Dylan To Me Essay
Dylan further represents America as a place with significant corruption and misconduct within the
song. Verse 12 reads; Bent out of shape from society s pliers, Cares not to come up any higher, But

running, society s pliers shape a person much like the aforementioned everyman completing his nine

hole . The idea of trying to keep particular people down through the systematic means of
government relates to the oppression of black Americans of the time. Keeping certain people down

attitudes in America that adopted materialism and conformity were exposed through a multitude of
Dylan s lyrics and additionally the ones who endorsed these values for their own gain were also left

The Discovery Of The Network Devices
1.Describe the steps you would take to determine the needs of the organization (the discovery of the

As a consultant that was brought in to determine the needs of the organization, the primary starting
point is content discovery. The art of content discovery is to get an understanding of the business,
its network structure, organizational requirements and the resources that are available. Because the
number one rule in all problem solving manifests, is first to know and get an understand the
problem, the problem that you are tasked with or trying to solve.
Therefore, the first element of content discovery is to get an understanding of the organization.
Who is the company, what industry do they operate in, what services or products do they provide,
what is their mission statement, what are their daily operations, are many of the questions that

Smoking is bad I can tell why. So let s talk about that and the D.A.R.E project and what I did in it.
First, I will tell you what I learned in D.A.R.E. Second, how I have used D.A.R.E. Third, how I

It turns out even Chipotle isn t perfect. Seventeen Chipotle locations in Minnesota have been

The History of Songs in Rock and Roll Essay
At the start of this class, I did not think that I would learn as much as I did. Just last night my
wife and I were watching The Voice and someone was singing I ll Be There. I told her that was a
song by The Jackson 5. She disagreed with me and told me that Mariah Carey had sung that
song. I looked it up and we were both right. I went onto tell her that I was more right because The
Jackson 5 sang it first. It got me thinking about this class and how I catch myself thinking about the
history of songs whenever I hear them on the radio or in a movie.

I can recall the exact place and what I was doing. That was an example of a good feeling, but it
can also bring back feelings that are not so joyous. It can remind you of the times in your life
that you wish you could go back to. It can make you feel sad that you will never be able to
recreate those memories again and would give anything to do so. That is what I love about music.
It acts as a time capsule for certain events that take place in your life.
During the 90s, rock and roll had several artists from decades past finding renewed success like
Eric Clapton, Santana, and Paul McCartney. Eric Clapton s Tears in Heaven, about the tragic
death of his son, became one of the biggest releases in the 1990s. Many bands from the 60s and
70s have enjoyed success because of the classic rock stations. They have the opportunity to stay
relevant and current. The rock and roll genre will endure the test of time because of the musicians
who are dedicated to keep evolving it. There has been many evolutional changes to rock and roll
throughout the years. There has been blues based British rock, American blues rock and southern
rock, progressive rock, country rock, punk, heavy metal, indie, and alternative rock just to name a

changes will be, but I am excited to find out.

Revenge in Wuthering Heights Essay
Revenge in Wuthering Heights Novels often use the emotion of hate to create tension and distress
in the plot. Wuthering Heights uses Heathcliff s disdain for the other characters to add conflict to
the story. Wuthering Heights examines the source of Heathcliff s hate as well as its effects on the
other characters throughout the story. Heathcliff s relationships with other characters also suggests
the universal theme that breeds hatred. Hindley plants the seeds of hate into Heathcliff by treating
him cruelly as a child to begin with. This past happening creates the mutual scornful attitude
between Heathcliff and Hindley, which spreads into the rest of the characters in the novel.

adults. As soon as Hindley s father dies, Heathcliff is taught the true meaning of hate by Hindley.
As Heathcliff ages, his hate for Hindley grows inside of him, along with a need for revenge.
Heathcliff s need for revenge allows him to formulate his diabolical plan for taking over both the
Grange and the Heights, upon return from his three year sojourn. Heathcliff s ability to gamble
the Heights away from Hindley foreshadows the unyielding power of Heithcliff s hate when
fueled by revenge. Thus establishing hate as the source of Heathcliff s revenge. Heathcliff s
loathing feelings against Hindley even last long after Hindley s death. Heathcliff has created a
demonic reality in which his mistreatment of Hereton will enable him to gain revenge against
Hindley. Heathcliff also maintains his revenge by becoming extremely possessive of the Heights.
Heathcliff s vicious watch dogs ensure the security of the Heights because maintaining complete
control of the Heights continues his revenge against Hindley. Since Edgar and Isabella were
sources of oppression in Heathcliff s childhood, Heathcliff feels the need to plot for revenge
against them. Heathcliff s reappearance is his first act of revenge, because he immediately makes

Life Goals And Challenges
Life goals and challenges
Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into visible said Tony Robbins, author and

up to effect their future. We use our goals to keep us motivated and our strengths to help us get
past the challenges we face. Our weaknesses fade because our strengths become so strong and
we are faced with new challenges. With each challenge we overcome we become stronger and we

Examples Of Dystopian Society In The Truman Show
The Prison Manufactured by a Dystopian Society Throughout the semester, many pieces of
literature was introduced that presented the theme of dystopian societies suppressing their citizens.
These pieces ranged from printed books describing fictional characters struggles, to a film
fabricating a fictional, civil imprisonment of an ignorant man, and even real world examples of
governmental control. All the authors were able to construct this idea of most commonly a
government or some sort of controlling body that had total control over the protagonist, and was

Throughout the film, a very powerful message was communicated towards the audience which was
reflected off of symbolic traits. One form of symbolism that stood out was the personification of the
heart. The heart represents the intense emotions the main character feels; the desire to near the
supporting character. The message conveyed is that your emotions can neither be controlled nor
restrained, as they are stronger and will lead you to the yearned for person. It indicates that
everything happen for a reason, and that resisting against something which is bound to happen
will only convolute situations, as this is evidently shown in the film. Further exploration can be
done when the heart was physically broken. It represents loss, grief, misery and is showcased
when each character holds half of the heart with dejected expressions. Additionally, another
symbolic representation is the apple. In my opinion, the supporting character couldn t have been
able to spin the apple that way, and I believe producers have made it this way done this for a
reason. It shows that regular actions or physical appearances are sugarcoated when we see those we
idolize. The character may realistically not be exceptional to that particular standard, however,

The Problem Of High School
High School is one of the most prominent time in one s life. During this time, one is taught to be
financially literate, how to use grammar and punctuations wisely, be mathematically inclined and
aware of different sciences. Notice how I excluded history, but there is a reason for this. History is
often manipulated and told by those who are comfortable telling fabricated stories made up by the
white man. This causes for students, especially African Americans have a false interpretation of
their history and come to college relatively unprepared. ADW and its concepts go into the root of
history without giving out false conceptions, however, it is very unfortunate that it is not taught
until one s young adult years because that is when distorted information is already drilled into their
brain. ADW concepts being taught in high schoolsuch as issues of identity; the intersection of race,
gender, and social class; displacement, and conditions of servitude could only lead to the
enrichment of the inquiring minds of this generation, allow them to see relatable circumstances,
and help diminish their ignorance of African history.
Throughout the years, we often deal with different measures of judgment and marginalizing. When
a person has the mentality that they are in fact more supreme than the other regardless of what it is,
it is something that is taught at home. The person who s the victim of inferiority, has the power to
teach the oppressor, but use only factual statements and

Juvenile Delinquency Is An Integral Part Of Criminology
The greatest asset a nation has is in the form of children which form a major portion of its
population. So they should be allowed and provided opportunity to become robust citizens, and to
grow up physically fit, mentally alert and morally healthy, being sufficiently endowed with skills
and activations needed by the society. Equal opportunities for development to all children during
the period of growth should be provided for reducing inequality and ensuring social justice, which
in turn would serve as an effective tool to curb delinquency in juveniles. Children are expected to
be obedient, respectful and imbibe virtues and good quality in them. Due to various reasons
children do not follow settled social and legal dictum. Juvenile delinquency, as a legal concept is of
recent origin. Juvenile delinquency is an integral part of criminology. The two cannot be separated
since one of the reasons for crimeand its continuance into adult life is the ineffective control and
treatment of juveniles. Juvenile delinquency is a big breading centre of criminals. The word
delinquency is derived from the Latin word delinquere meaning de i.e. away and linquere i.e. to

referred to parents who neglected and abandoned their children. In present day, it is used and

I rhyme, to see myself, to set the darkness echoing. How far does this statement apply to and sum

Combined with the music we are shown a crisp low angle shot of a full moon surrounded by

A Comparison Of Malcom X And Malcolm X
Malcolm X, over the years, was an interesting man, in the terms of his beliefs during the civil

He changed his views within the first few months of 1964 when he went to Mecca for a
pilgrimage. But unlike Malcolm X, Martin Luther was a Baptist like his father and believed that
desegregation can occur by a non violent protest and marches during the civil rights movements.
Not only did he believed that he also believed that with the combined efforts of blacks and whites
desegregation is possible. Within their speeches or written ones, they are similar in context and
techniques as well. The contexts of Letter to Mecca, by Malcolm Xand a speech by Martin Luther,
I have a Dream, are similar and different to what they talk about of the solutions and the overall
issue. As for techniques, they used the same and even different one from one another. First of
all, both of them talked about a similar topic within their speech and letter. The topic is about
trying to reach racial equality. In Malcolm X s Letter to Mecca, he wrote that his experience of

Montesquieu s Spirit Of Laws And Jean Jacques Rousseau s...
What entity dictates life on the most fundamental level? Is it the government or the people who
permit the government to exist? This is the main point of contention between Baron de
Montesquieu s Spirit of Laws and Jean Jacques Rousseau s On the Social Contract. Interestingly,
their interpretation of different forms of government converge on the sovereignty of a democracy,
but that is where most of their common ground lies. While Rousseau shares similarities on the
sovereign authority of a democracy with Montesquieu, he departs by arguing how regardless of
government, sovereignty always rests in the hands of the people. He also disagrees on how the
populace should participate in the democracy and on their representation in government, making his
principles more relevant today.
Baron de Montesquieu sees the people as sovereign exclusively in a democracy and act through
elected bodies or ministers. Since the people have the sole power to enact laws, the rules of
suffrage are vital to a successful democracy. Following closely is the need for a fixed amount of
active citizens in an assembly. As such, the essence of his democracy revolves around the need
for love of the laws and of the country. (Montesquieu Bk. 4 Pt. 5) Likewise, frugality is important
because it allows all of society to share a similar level of enjoyment and advantages that a
democracy brings. When the populace look to frugality, enhanced public services are made
available. Consequently, there is a law of

population living in major cities. It also has one of the lowest population densities outside of its
major cities. Despite the vastness of Australia and the profound impact that this has on the lives
of the peoples living in rural and remote areas, relatively little is known about families living in
these areas of Australia compared to those living in major cities. (Baxter, Hayes and Gray, 2016).
Majority of the people who live in Australia, live in cities rather than rural areas because cities
provide better job opportunities, education, entertainment, health services, and access to clean
water and food

Fairies In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Alas, love can be a great source of confusion and sorrow, but it is nevertheless probably the most
powerful feeling a human being can experience. In Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream,
Lysander says that the course of true love never did run smooth (Shakespeare 1.1.134), which is
seen in the quarrels between the couples throughout the play. Shakespeare makes use chiefly of the
fairies supernatural powers to settle the love conflicts and portrays the irrationality in love of the
characters, thereby creating numerous comic situations and leading to the unification of the
couples towards the end of the play. First, one of Shakespeare s techniques to bring about the
comedic climax is the use of fairies whose supernatural powers create... Show more content on

Consequently, Demetrius falls in love with Helena, as it should have been in the first place, so
two [men] at once woo one [woman], as Puck says in line 3.2.118. Helena is completely mixed
up when Demetrius states that he is now in love with her because then both of Hermia s suitors
are now wooing her. The conflicts in love that Shakespeare presents here are a way for him to
start solving the love issues by bringing the couples together using the fairies magic powers.
Indeed, by making Demetrius fall in love with the lady who loves him, he pleases Helena, who
should normally be happy to have won her quest. However, since Lysander is also in love with
her, she is not fooled, and knows that there is something unusual going on. She suspects that the
gentlemen are teasing her scornfully by flout[ing] at [her] insufficiency (2.2.128). More
confusion arises when Hermia arrives, and Helena says in line 3.2.192 that she is one of this
confederacy of people who make fun of her. Then, Hermia comes to think that it is actually
Helena who is playing a trick on her: I scorn you not. It seems that you scorn me (3.2.221). This
mixup and inability to understand other people s intentions are Shakespeare s ways of
demonstrating how hard it is to understand the behaviour of love struck people. All the quarrels are
solved when Puck squeezes juice for a second time

Cara Pressman Case
Cara Pressman is a young 15 year old girl who has a dozen seizures a week. She suffers from
epilepsy which can be extremely dangerous and deadly. Her doctors recommended an ablation
laser surgery on her brain that is causing her to have seizures. This surgery would require the
doctors to crack open Cara s skull and cut out a part of her temporal lobe that is causing epilepsy.
Cara s surgery was scheduled for October 23, and this surgery would cure her from her terrible
seizure. Although, three days before her surgery Cara s parents got a letter in the mail from their
insurance company, Aetna, saying that the insurance company would not cover the surgery.
Instead, they would allow a surgery where the doctors would drill a small hole in Cara s skull and
remove the lesions with a laser. After hearing about the rejection of her surgery, Cara said,
considering they re denying me getting surgery and stopping this thing that s wrong with my brain,
I would probably just say, Screw you. The insurance company does not have the right to reject an
intense surgery for someone who needs it. Insurance companies should not have a say in whether or
not someone needs surgery or not, that is the doctors... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The First Amendment protects people s rights in the United States. Therefore, they could argue that
the insurance company is taking away their right from expression and interfering with getting the
help that Cara needs for her surgery. This situation connects to the court case in 1993, Don t Ask
Don t Tell, which is a case that was decided that if a gay person goes in the military they have the
right to mention whether or not they are gay. This was something that the Government stayed out
of which is what the insurance company, Aetna, needs to do. The company needs to stay out of the
surgery and instead of questioning the surgery and rejecting it; they need to trust in the qualified

Symbolism of a Doll s House
Alex Simonton Research Paper Third Period April 15, 2015 Symbolism of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll
s House A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen is perhaps one of the most hotly debated plays to come out
of the 19th century. The eighteen hundreds continued the process of the demystification that began
with the Enlightenment. Because of the discoveries of the Enlightenment, humans could no longer
be sure about their place in the universe. This, of course, had an impact on the theater. The
movement toward realism, which, like the 19th century in general, was an attempt to become
more scientific. Ibsen is considered by many as the father of realism, and one of the plays that
belong to Ibsen s realism period is A Doll s House. But the play... Show more content on

The symbolic nature of the title is drawn out over the course of the play. The play forces the
reader, or viewer, to look beneath the surface of what appears to be a perfect Victorian
household. Ibsen, through the use of realistic stage setting, can show a typical Victorian
household and marriage fall to pieces: He means to make a modern home go to pieces before
our very eyes, from necessity within itself. It must contain everything that can attract:
Simplicity, gladness, power of work, good temper, gentle and strong regard, love of beauty,
merry little children, friends, well managed servants, good habits, good reputation, a position
which has at length been won by praiseworthy endeavors, etc.; but also a husband who has such
an essentially false idea of happiness between man and woman, that it has practically
undermined this delightful home, and it is ready to fall in, at any moment (Lord 96). The
picture of the perfect household that is contained in the setting is symbolic for both Nora and
Torvald. It is symbolic for Nora because it is her job to keep the surface of their lives clean and
tidy. But is also symbolic of her attempt to hide the secrets she has inside. By the play s end Nora
will emerge as the person she really is, a person stripped of the mask of the perfect Victorian
household: At last, in an extraordinary scene, she declares that she can no longer live in her doll s
house; husband and wife sit down

Luther s Attitudes To Political Violence And Authority
This essay will indicate the reasons that determine Luther s attitude to political violence and
authority by quoting from his writings. Luther would be placed at the lower left, as his attitude to
political authority is Christ against culture , and especially Rejectionist (A), whereas his attitude to
political violence is Realism (10) Luther s attitude to political authority is quite similar to Augustine
s one, which stated that all authority is derived from God (p.168). He also mentioned, They (as
humans) should obey God s commands, not because they appear just, but simply because they are
God s commands (p.162). He also indicated that God is omnipotent, omniscient and transcendent
outside space and time, and humans cannot do anything

The theory The ritual of a hero by Lord Raglan fits Paikea life exactly because it fits most of the
criteria of the theory. In the movie, The Whale Rider Paikea life follows four of the six stages
talked about. The stages include the situation of the hero birth are quite unusual and or traumatic.
The father unsuccessfully tries to do away with the infant hero. The child is raised by surrogate
parents, but upon maturing, he returns to the land of his father. The hero battles his father and is
victorious. (Indick, Williams) In the opening scene of the movie, you can see Paikea s mother
giving birth to twins. One a boy and one a girl. The tradition of the Whangara people, the first born

Yes, she is not trained to be a chief. Yes, her gender comes into play when it comes to becoming
a chief. She had one thing that none of the other boys had, heart. She wanted to learn to be a

trying to get a look into the classes. When she got caught so many times, she went to uncle to
continue to learn. The other boys took the training for granted while she didn t. She worked
hard to strive for greatness. All you hear about super hero s is bout there powers. That s not what
a hero really is. It doesn t matter if you have superpowers or not. She had heart, that s what a real
hero has. Batman doesn t have powers but he has a passion for fighting crime. There is no
difference between Batman and Paikea. Yes granted one does wear a cape and the other one is
only a small girl but they have a strong believe in something. Paikea was a true hero for women
and the community. This was the first ever female chief. Also it was the youngest chief. It
shows how you don t have to be a certain sex or a certain age to be in a position of power. With
her being a chief it changes to male dominated role. Being a chief wasn t a male role anymore,
anyone could become a chief. The most important thing to remember is how much heart you have

Taking a Look at Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacterial infection that can be transmitted
during sexual contact with an infected person through vaginal anal or oral sex (REF) Symptoms
are usually mild and tend to go unnoticed and this is why it Is known as the silent disease (simms
2006) Chlamydia infection can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease; (PID) which is the most
preventable cause of infertility (Paavonen and eggert kruse 1999) and affects around 10 40% of
women (Health protection Agency 2009) (HPA). During an episode of PID bacteria can move
into the upper reproductive tract and cause the uterus, fallopian tubes and surrounding areas to
become swollen and scarred (RISSER AND RISSER 2007). Repeated episodes of PID increase the
risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancyand can be more difficult for a woman to become pregnant
because her eggs are unable to pass through easily. (SIMMS 2006) It is estimated that 1 in every
10 women with PID become infertile. Although blocked and damaged tubes can sometimes be
treated, where this is not possible some woman may consider a procedure called in vitro
fertilisation (IVF) to have children. This involves surgically removing eggs from a woman s
ovaries and fertilising them before planting the eggs back into the woman s womb.(OAKESHOTT
AND KERRY ET AL 2010).
The National Chlamydia Screening Program was set up in 2003 by the Department of Health. The
aim is to control chlamydia through early detection and treatment,

Psychology Of Groups
The thought of sitting in a room filled with people who have similar interests and enjoy each other
s company seems a lot better than being alone, and not being included in the cluster of people.
There are many reasons why people may want to join groups and Bill Wasik, who writes
My Crowd Experiment: The Mob Experiment talks about some of the reasons why it seems
interesting to join one. People may want to join groups because they will not be bored, it can allow
someone to accomplish many things and feel good, and they can gain friends.
By joining a group, people can reduce the chances of being bored. It allows them to engage in
activities they like or even have new experiences. Wasik talks about how he started the Mob
Project because I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joining a group can also provide people with feelings of accomplishments. In an online article by
Lee Rainie, Kristen Purcell, and Aaron Smith, they state how people consider joining a group
weather the individual thinks the group can accomplish its goals (63% say that this is very
important in their decision) (Joining, participating in and leaving groups). People tend to enjoy
being a part of a successful project and it makes them feel good when a goal is achieved.
They also may join to show off accomplishments they may have made and to feel they feel they
have a purpose in doing something to benefit others. Wasik talks about how 200 people came
together to do a flash mob at a hotel and After five minutes of staring, the ring erupted

This simply means that the organization must take time out to learn what motivates employees.
It is best for management to clearly highlight the organization s goals and then motivate
employees to keep them engaged. A list of things to consider include: Clearly defining the goals
of the company. When the company goals and visions are well stated to the employees, then
they will have a clear understanding of what they have to do to ensure that there is success at
the workplace. Providing the required resources for the employees. It should not be assumed
that the employees have all the necessities that will enable them to carry out their duties
effectively. The management should make available all the required resources that will ensure
they do their work completely and satisfactorily. Having good communication channels. Good
communication is very vital in the sense that if there is miscommunication then there will be a
lot of chaos at the work place. Having good communication in the organization will ensure that
everything is flowing as required, without skipping any steps. Getting everyone at the work
place engaged. This is done by giving employees a chance to make proposals and decisions on
some issues. It is a step that will make them feel appreciated in the company. It will also allow
employees to become responsible for whatever outcome the decision created. Being fair to every
employee. As a top manager, one needs to be just and fair to everyone, so as to ensure

The Importance Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was certainly one of the most important events in Europe s political
history and highlighted the importance of the new age of Enlightenment. The outcomes of the
Revolution were many: its short comings led to the rise of the Napoleonic Regime and
Robespierre s reign through terror led other European revolutionaries to step back in fear.
However, whilst the revolution failed to achieve all it had aimed to do; it did overthrow its
monarchy, creating the first true European Republic, and was able to introduce a slither of
democratic ideology into a society used to aristocratic dictatorship, showing other European states
that the people really did have power; proving, for the first time, that left wing ideology was... Show

The terms of this Treaty meant that another war was almost inevitable, thus leading to the rise of
Napoleon Bonaparte.
Napoleon s 1799 coup to become the First Consul of the Republic, was the start of one of the
biggest political and societal reforms the world had ever seen. Napoleon was desperate to prove he
was a just leader, he wanted to ensure the aims of the French Revolution became law; this was
notably seen with the implementation of the Napoleonic Code, replacing the patchwork of Feudal
Laws that had previously existed. The document established the Republic as the first European
country to create a Civil Legal System, a modern and simpler concept that existed to serve the
entire population. Napoleon s reforms were unlike anything Europe had seen before and set the
French First Republic at the forefront of political innovation. France had become an example by
which many European countries would follow in the century to come.
However, the Napoleonic Wars that sprouted from Napoleon s constant changes to the international
system, in his attempt to legitimise the aims of the Revolution, ultimately led to Napoleon s
downfall; yet, the consequences of the Wars were of great importance to Europe s stability.
Notably, the Napoleonic Wars led to the creation of the Concert of Europe, an alliance between
European powers that would likely not have occurred without the French Revolution or Napoleon.

Essay Theoretical Organizational Behavior Analysis
Throughout this essay I hope to analyse theoretical organizational behaviour by drawing on my
own experiences from working in groups. The groups I am going to use as part of my examples
are all from formal groups. Huczynski and Buchanan (2007, p. 291) gives a good definition of
Formal groups in a few bullet points, where one of them is task orientation which in my opinion
has clearly characterized the groups I am talking about. The groups are not necessarily consisting of
like minded people, but individuals randomly picked by the lecturer/tutor which in many cases
leads to different disagreements as the groups try to establish itself and the members of the group
try to find their role within the group. Bruce Tuckmancame up with a theory... Show more content

Tuckmans first stage is the forming stage which is where the group s ground rules are set up and
the members find out about each other s background. To succeed in this first stage the group is
dependent on some leader (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007, pp. 291) to take the lead. In none
of my groups have we had a formal election of a group leader, but somehow we have all agreed
that the person that first took the initiative should be the leader. Our leader can therefore, at least
in my opinion, be looked upon as a silently elected leader, and therefore perceived as more
responsive to the needs of followers and the interests of the group (Ben Yoav et al. 1983 cited by
De Cremer David and van Dijk Eric, 2008, pp. 358). The second and third stages that a group
needs to go through is the Storming and Forming stage where normal the group faces its first
problems or as Huczynski and Buchanan writes: some members might show hostility towards
each other (2007, p. 291). On the other hand, it is also in these stages that people become friends
and develop their trust towards each other. In my groups we must have either skipped these stages
or finished them fairly quick as I didn t notice this happening at all. Connie J. G. Gersick (1988,
p.9) commented about the stages that groups go through: ... (The) progress was triggered more by

  • 2. American Soul And Jazz Poet Gilbert Essay American soul and jazz poet Gilbert Gil Scott Heron was born in Chicago, Illinois April 1, 1949. It seems he got his singing talents from his mother who was an opera singer that performed with the New York Oratorio Society. His father was a football player and was the first black man to play for Celtic football club. Gil was also an author and musician and known for being a spoken word performer. • 3. Comparison Of Aristotle And Aquinas And The Highest Good Comparison of Aristotle and Aquinas and the highest good Both Aristotle and Aquinas were prominent philosophers who wrote profound works that discussed the concept of a highest human good. They also included their own terms of achieving aforesaid good. In Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics, the highest good is a state of constant seeking as a way of achieving full capacity as a human . The writings of Aquinas have some similarities to the writings of Aristotle, however, in Treatise on Law, he discusses the type and elements of law and allowed the role of God to influence his ideas. His analysis of law ultimately names the highest human good as being in the perfect community with God. Aquinas s argument supports obedience to law, preexisting inclinations for the good, and a resolution. Aristotle requires that the person constantly seek to know and be at work, which can act as a positive force that drives humans to improve themselves. In Book One of the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle argues for an ultimate end, and that knowledge of the good should be influential and important to all human life. He explains that it is better to act aimed at the good of the whole, meaning society, and transcend the level of individual preservation (1094b5 1094b10). Aquinas created a hierarchy of rules to follow when acting in the name of the good. There is a specific order of the precepts of natural law. The lowest inclination affects all substances and is the desire to preserve the self. Next, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay on Global Positioning Systems Global Positioning Systems The possibilities for the future afforded to the human race by the technology created today is endless. However, one technology has already and will continue to change the way people travel around the planet: Global Positioning Systems (GPS). For travelers throughout history, figuring out where they were and where they were going was one of the oldest problems. Even in recent years, navigation and positioning was crucial to many activities but extremely cumbersome. However, in its need for a precise form of global positioning, the Department of Defense (DoD) created the most useful navigation system in history. The creation and production of the GPS system by Rockwell Collins changed the way people travel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The receiver simultaneously measures the distance to a second satellite and creates a similar sphere for the second satellite. The area where the two spheres intersect narrows the possible location of the receiver to a circular area. Finally, the receiver measures the distance to a third satellite and cross references third sphere with the first two spheres. The intersection of the third sphere with the first two spheres then narrows the possible location of the receiver to two points. In order to locate the exact position of the receiver on earth, the system employs one of two methods. The first method is for the system to take a measurement to a fourth satellite, which is often done for other reasons described later. The alternate method is to mathematically throw out one of the answers, which can often be done since one point is located in space or is not otherwise plausible. The question that naturally follows is how a receiver is able to make a distance measurement from its position on earth to the satellites orbiting the earth. The basic physics theory used to determine distance is the speed of the signal multiplied by the time it took to travel from the satellite to the receiver. Since radio waves are used to communicate between the satellite and the receiver, the speed of the transmission is known to be the speed of light or 186,000 miles per second. However, the determination of time is trickier since the time traveled is short, usually on the order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Cultural Heritage Of The French Tourism Tourism in France is an important activity, both for the French who choose to spend their holidays, and foreigners who come to stay. Thus, since 1990, France became the first tourist destination in the world. The tourist attraction of France is due to the large number and wide variety of points of interest, diversity of landscapes, the rich cultural and artistic heritage, the temperate climate and ease of access and transport infrastructure, but also the important equipment in the country and varied reception facilities (hotels, amusement parks...). Thus, each department is a French tourist department with several points of interest. France has a rich well known cultural heritage, favored by many sites listed as World Heritage of UNESCO. The French tourismhas many different facets and positive economic impacts and France makes every effort to maintain the liveliness of this important asset. The history of tourism in France began around 1760 in the south of France in Hyeres, becoming a common winter resort renowned among UK thanks to its relatively mild Mediterranean climate. In 1910 Alexandre Millerand, the French Minister of Public Works at the time, created the first tourism office, with the desire to promote those places that must be contemplated and visited by many. The intellectual vision that covers his entourage will then change since we will be more aware of our surroundings. We decide consciously to build tourism in these places. However, the trip is ... There were two main things that fell apart in this book: the main character Okonkwo and religion. The meaning of this book was to show that life is full of conflicts and if they are not confronted or solved correctly, something or someone will collapse. Several scenes of violence were found in this book. These scenes existed to contribute to the overall meaning of the complete work. One scene of violence made a significant impact to Okonkwo. The clan was hopeless. The messengers who ran away will possibly come back with more men and Umuofia will end up like Abame. Finding it pointless to stay in a place in which there was femininity in men and in which his beliefs were abandoned, Okonkwo killed himself. This scene portrayed not only the destruction of Okonkwo, but the destruction of the entire clan. The missionaries brought change and successfully converted some Ibo to Christianity. It is important for your style of language to be understood and clear no matter the way you do. Of course, you cannot do a speech in which you use word slang, which is something else that Rothwell touched upon in the reading. • 16. Evolution Of The Baseball Bat The evolution of the baseball bat dates back to when baseball was a growing sport. The first wood bats cannot be compared with today s wood bats, and the BESR bats of the past cannot be compared with the modern BBCOR bats. The first wood baseball bats were considered sticks because they did not have a lot of pop, which is how hard the ball bounces off of the bat. As the wood bat progressed, the ball began to fly farther and travel faster. This change in wood baseball bats can be related to the change in metal bats. When metal bats were first introduced, they were considered inferior to wood bats until the new and improved BESR bats were introduced. These bats had more pop than ever before, and were considered dangerous. Because of this danger, the BBCOR bats had to be introduced in 2011. Because of the major advances in technology, bat manufacturers are able to tune the bats to the BBCOR certifiable level. The introduction of BBCOR bats into college and high school baseball has moved the game in a positive direction by making baseball more realistic, creating a safer game, and making it easier to project a player s future. First of all, baseball bats come in many different shapes and sizes for all levels of play. The youth baseball bats have a different level of pop than the adult version of the baseball bats. For instance, the youth baseball bats have a pop level of 1.15, and the adult versions of the bats have a pop level of .50. When a ball hits the barrel of any bat, it ... Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in different time periods. The era that a play takes place can impact its direction due to differences in social classes and boundaries and even how the opposite sex is treated. The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play takes place is 1952. However, funnily enough, through Dylan s representing the blights of American culture in his songs, the American people were able to reflect on injustice, which moved people to support social progress like the civil rights movement. The attitudes in America that adopted materialism and conformity were exposed through a multitude of Dylan s lyrics and additionally the ones who endorsed these values for their own gain were also left to stand naked through Dylan s work. At times, this song almost seems saddening reminding the audience of existential dread through certain lyrics, however, overall, it can be concluded the inherited despondency in the text is a testament to the verisimilitude within his writings providing a genuine feeling that his fans adore; which is ultimately why Dylan is credited as, the spokesman of his ... This is the main point of contention between Baron de Montesquieu s Spirit of Laws and Jean Jacques Rousseau s On the Social Contract. Interestingly, their interpretation of different forms of government converge on the sovereignty of a democracy, but that is where most of their common ground lies. While Rousseau shares similarities on the sovereign authority of a democracy with Montesquieu, he departs by arguing how regardless of government, sovereignty always rests in the hands of the people. He also disagrees on how the populace should participate in the democracy and on their representation in government, making his principles more relevant today. Baron de Montesquieu sees the people as sovereign exclusively in a democracy and act through elected bodies or ministers. Since the people have the sole power to enact laws, the rules of suffrage are vital to a successful democracy. Following closely is the need for a fixed amount of active citizens in an assembly. As such, the essence of his democracy revolves around the need for love of the laws and of the country. (Montesquieu Bk. 4 Pt. 5) Likewise, frugality is important because it allows all of society to share a similar level of enjoyment and advantages that a democracy brings. When the populace look to frugality, enhanced public services are made available. Consequently, there is a law of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Fairies In A Midsummer Night s Dream Alas, love can be a great source of confusion and sorrow, but it is nevertheless probably the most powerful feeling a human being can experience. In Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, Lysander says that the course of true love never did run smooth (Shakespeare 1.1.134), which is seen in the quarrels between the couples throughout the play. Shakespeare makes use chiefly of the fairies supernatural powers to settle the love conflicts and portrays the irrationality in love of the characters, thereby creating numerous comic situations and leading to the unification of the couples towards the end of the play. First, one of Shakespeare s techniques to bring about the comedic climax is the use of fairies whose supernatural powers create... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, Demetrius falls in love with Helena, as it should have been in the first place, so two [men] at once woo one [woman], as Puck says in line 3.2.118. Helena is completely mixed up when Demetrius states that he is now in love with her because then both of Hermia s suitors are now wooing her. The conflicts in love that Shakespeare presents here are a way for him to start solving the love issues by bringing the couples together using the fairies magic powers. Indeed, by making Demetrius fall in love with the lady who loves him, he pleases Helena, who should normally be happy to have won her quest. However, since Lysander is also in love with her, she is not fooled, and knows that there is something unusual going on. She suspects that the gentlemen are teasing her scornfully by flout[ing] at [her] insufficiency (2.2.128). More confusion arises when Hermia arrives, and Helena says in line 3.2.192 that she is one of this confederacy of people who make fun of her. Then, Hermia comes to think that it is actually Helena who is playing a trick on her: I scorn you not. It seems that you scorn me (3.2.221). This mixup and inability to understand other people s intentions are Shakespeare s ways of demonstrating how hard it is to understand the behaviour of love struck people. Cara s surgery was scheduled for October 23, and this surgery would cure her from her terrible seizure. • 44. Symbolism of a Doll s House Alex Simonton Research Paper Third Period April 15, 2015 Symbolism of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen is perhaps one of the most hotly debated plays to come out of the 19th century. The eighteen hundreds continued the process of the demystification that began with the Enlightenment. Because of the discoveries of the Enlightenment, humans could no longer be sure about their place in the universe. This, of course, had an impact on the theater. The movement toward realism, which, like the 19th century in general, was an attempt to become more scientific. Ibsen is considered by many as the father of realism, and one of the plays that belong to Ibsen s realism period is A Doll s House. But the play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symbolic nature of the title is drawn out over the course of the play. The play forces the reader, or viewer, to look beneath the surface of what appears to be a perfect Victorian household. Ibsen, through the use of realistic stage setting, can show a typical Victorian household and marriage fall to pieces: He means to make a modern home go to pieces before our very eyes, from necessity within itself. It must contain everything that can attract: Simplicity, gladness, power of work, good temper, gentle and strong regard, love of beauty, merry little children, friends, well managed servants, good habits, good reputation, a position which has at length been won by praiseworthy endeavors, etc.; but also a husband who has such an essentially false idea of happiness between man and woman, that it has practically undermined this delightful home, and it is ready to fall in, at any moment (Lord 96). The picture of the perfect household that is contained in the setting is symbolic for both Nora and Torvald. It is symbolic for Nora because it is her job to keep the surface of their lives clean and tidy. But is also symbolic of her attempt to hide the secrets she has inside. By the play s end Nora will emerge as the person she really is, a person stripped of the mask of the perfect Victorian household: At last, in an extraordinary scene, she declares that she can no longer live in her doll s house; husband and wife sit down ... Taking a Look at Chlamydia Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by bacterial infection that can be transmitted during sexual contact with an infected person through vaginal anal or oral sex (REF) Symptoms are usually mild and tend to go unnoticed and this is why it Is known as the silent disease (simms 2006) Chlamydia infection can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease; (PID) which is the most preventable cause of infertility (Paavonen and eggert kruse 1999) and affects around 10 40% of women (Health protection Agency 2009) (HPA). During an episode of PID bacteria can move into the upper reproductive tract and cause the uterus, fallopian tubes and surrounding areas to become swollen and scarred (RISSER AND RISSER 2007). Repeated episodes of PID increase the risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancyand can be more difficult for a woman to become pregnant because her eggs are unable to pass through easily. (SIMMS 2006) It is estimated that 1 in every 10 women with PID become infertile. Although blocked and damaged tubes can sometimes be treated, where this is not possible some woman may consider a procedure called in vitro fertilisation (IVF) to have children. This involves surgically removing eggs from a woman s ovaries and fertilising them before planting the eggs back into the woman s womb.(OAKESHOTT AND KERRY ET AL 2010). The Importance Of The French Revolution The French Revolution was certainly one of the most important events in Europe s political history and highlighted the importance of the new age of Enlightenment. The outcomes of the Revolution were many: its short comings led to the rise of the Napoleonic Regime and Robespierre s reign through terror led other European revolutionaries to step back in fear. However, whilst the revolution failed to achieve all it had aimed to do; it did overthrow its monarchy, creating the first true European Republic, and was able to introduce a slither of democratic ideology into a society used to aristocratic dictatorship, showing other European states that the people really did have power; proving, for the first time, that left wing ideology was... Napoleon s 1799 coup to become the First Consul of the Republic, was the start of one of the biggest political and societal reforms the world had ever seen. Napoleon was desperate to prove he was a just leader, he wanted to ensure the aims of the French Revolution became law; this was notably seen with the implementation of the Napoleonic Code, replacing the patchwork of Feudal Laws that had previously existed. The document established the Republic as the first European country to create a Civil Legal System, a modern and simpler concept that existed to serve the entire population. Napoleon s reforms were unlike anything Europe had seen before and set the French First Republic at the forefront of political innovation. France had become an example by which many European countries would follow in the century to come. However, the Napoleonic Wars that sprouted from Napoleon s constant changes to the international system, in his attempt to legitimise the aims of the Revolution, ultimately led to Napoleon s downfall; yet, the consequences of the Wars were of great importance to Europe s stability. Notably, the Napoleonic Wars led to the creation of the Concert of Europe, an alliance between European powers that would likely not have occurred without the French Revolution or Napoleon. ... • 53. Essay Theoretical Organizational Behavior Analysis Throughout this essay I hope to analyse theoretical organizational behaviour by drawing on my own experiences from working in groups. The groups I am going to use as part of my examples are all from formal groups. Huczynski and Buchanan (2007, p. 291) gives a good definition of Formal groups in a few bullet points, where one of them is task orientation which in my opinion has clearly characterized the groups I am talking about. The groups are not necessarily consisting of like minded people, but individuals randomly picked by the lecturer/tutor which in many cases leads to different disagreements as the groups try to establish itself and the members of the group try to find their role within the group. Bruce Tuckmancame up with a theory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tuckmans first stage is the forming stage which is where the group s ground rules are set up and the members find out about each other s background. To succeed in this first stage the group is dependent on some leader (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007, pp. 291) to take the lead. In none of my groups have we had a formal election of a group leader, but somehow we have all agreed that the person that first took the initiative should be the leader. Our leader can therefore, at least in my opinion, be looked upon as a silently elected leader, and therefore perceived as more responsive to the needs of followers and the interests of the group (Ben Yoav et al. 1983 cited by De Cremer David and van Dijk Eric, 2008, pp. 358). The second and third stages that a group needs to go through is the Storming and Forming stage where normal the group faces its first problems or as Huczynski and Buchanan writes: some members might show hostility towards each other (2007, p. 291). On the other hand, it is also in these stages that people become friends and develop their trust towards each other. In my groups we must have either skipped these stages or finished them fairly quick as I didn t notice this happening at all. Connie J. G.
