Tuckman Group Development
I enjoyed playing high school and college basketball, however after suffering from a life changing
permanent injury I couldn t continue being an active player on my team. Nonetheless, I did not want
to allow this injury to ruin my passion for the sport. Consequently, I chose to invest lots of hours into
learning the coaching and recruiting characteristics of the sport. Reading Bruce Tuckman s iconic
description of the stages of group development has really made it easy for me to understand my
experience during the time I attended a coaching basketball camp with nine other prospective
upcoming basketball coaches like myself. It all started when MaxPreps, America s source for high
school sports organized a camp for upcoming basketball coaches from various states where we had to
be out camping for five days, during this experience we will collaboratively fulfill various tasks
delegated to each team participating in the event. Given my extensive experience in coaching, ... Show

On the second day, MaxPrep s chairman introduced my team to the tasks that our group will be held
accountable for in the remaining four days; the task was to create a succinct infomercial positing
important characteristic of a great basketball coach. At this point in time is when conflicts began to
surface. The first disagreement occurred at the time my group gathered to appoint a team lead who
will oversee the team. Both formal and informal leaders play an instrumental role in lending
credibility to the project and in guiding project participants and others within the organization
(Freshman, 2011 p. 49). Those who wanted leadership positions were asked to step forward, with
various beliefs and opinions formulated, some spoke up and passionately proclaim who they want to
lead, others simply opposed, while the timid ones in the group remained silent and waited for a newly

Analysis of the Success of Cultural Change Within British...
1.1INTRODUCTION
British Airways came into existence in 1935, when smaller privately owned UK airlines merged.
Another change occurred when the Government nationalised British Airways and Imperial Airways to
form BOAC The British Overseas Airways Corporation.
During this period, external markets were more stable and predictable and there was no real need for
BA to adopt competitive strategies, being that there was little competition from rivals. There appears
to be little in the way of strategy formulation and strategy implementation. This was mainly due to the
established strategy and organisation environment remaining largely unchanged. Any change in BA s
strategy would have developed in an incremental fashion, an almost natural ... Show more content on

1.3 CORPORATE CULTURE DEFINED
Management researchers seem to agree that the things that companies do called corporate culture is an
intangible concept and hence difficult to define. Among the attempts to define corporate culture , the
following definition is useful as a starting point: culture represents an interdependent set of values and
ways of behaving that are common in a community and that tend to perpetuate themselves, sometimes
over long periods of time (Kotter and Heskett,1992,141) Peters and Watermann argue that changing a
culture cannot be accomplished.
1.4 CHANGES WITH BA DUE TO EXTERNAL PRESSURES
The story of British Airways is one of the most widely used inspirational accounts of changing culture
(Heller 1992). BA faced two external pressures. The Thatcher government was threatening to privatise
it and also the deregulation of the industry worldwide. Within Lundberg s model of the organisational
learning cycle, he suggests that in order for cultural change to occur the requisite external and internal
circumstances must occur. He describes the two external enabling conditions. These are known as
domain forgiveness the degree of threat due to instability of the environment and

It Is The Greatest Mystery Of All
How can a three pound mass of jelly that you can hold in your palm imagine angels, contemplate the
meaning of infinity, and even question its own place in the cosmos? Especially awe inspiring is the
fact that any single brain, including yours, is made up of atoms that were forged in the hearts of
countless, far flung stars billions of years ago. These particles drifted for eons and light years until
gravity and change brought them together here, now. These atoms now form a conglomerate your
brain that can not only ponder the very stars that gave it birth but can also think about its own ability
to think and wonder about its own ability to wonder. With the arrival of humans, it has been said, the
universe has suddenly become conscious of itself. This, truly, it the greatest mystery of all. VS
Ramachandran
After the first unit and research paper, the classmates of PSYV 358 learned all about what
consciousness is: how it is defined, different theories of why it exists, its benefits. I specifically
learned that consciousness could ultimately be defined as the state or quality of awareness. It is often
described as an evolved property, one that as far as we are able to define, is unique to humans at the
level of self consciousness. Going back to Chalmers, and the neuroscientific problems of
consciousness, it could be said that answering where is consciousness? would fall under the category
of the hard problem. Restated from the last research paper, the hard problem is

The Norman Conquest By Marc Morris, The Narrative Of The...
The Norman Conquest by Marc Morris is a narrative of the Norman invasion of 1066. Since the
events happened so long ago, there are many incomplete accounts of the events. Even these
incomplete accounts are usually heavily biased. As such, it is a difficult undertaking for a historian to
construct a cohesive summary of the period. Nevertheless, Marc Morris attempted the task, and did an
admirable job. It is written as a narrative, but has enough detail to satisfy a student of history. Morris
begins by exploring the history of one of the few sources that remain of the Norman invasion, the
Bayeux tapestry. The tapestry has had a long history of trading hands and escaping harm seemingly
miraculously. According to Morris, the Bayeux tapestry has survived looting in the French Revolution,
was owned by Napoleon Bonaparte for a time, and was stolen by Nazis during their occupation of
France in World War II. Aside from its own fascinating history, the tapestry itself is not a flawless
source. Morris points out that it is in fact incomplete, as it abruptly stops at Harold Godwinson s
death. It was also in part copied from older accounts of the invasion and therefore is not a primary
source. It is also non committal in its portrayal of events and the captions are for the most part
willfully obscure or ambiguous (p. 4). In other words, it seems intended more to be a narrative than as
a factual historical record. Exact dates are often not given for important events, such as the

L-Dopa Research Paper
Everyone wants to stop the process of aging and man has been in search of a product that will help
him. A few years ago, researchers found that aging occurs due to the reduction in production of the
Human Growth Hormone in the body. As the body ages, the pituitary glands, responsible for the
production of HGH, do not produce sufficient quantity of the hormone causing the many signs of
aging to appear.
Sytropin is one of the many products that are known as HGH releasers. These releasers work to boost
the production of HGH in the body thereby resulting in a younger you. Though there will not be any
miraculous transformations overnight, you can slow down the aging process with patience and
perseverance. It works by enhancing the decreasing levels of Human growth hormone.

Juvenile Delinquency Essay
Juvenile delinquents, or youth that have been convicted of a crime, seem to be the norm these days.
Citizens, families, and poliy makers want new programs and policies within the juvenile justice
system. Researchers have found that the family structure can be a precursor to delinquent behavior,
and families do not have the control or blance that they once did. As such, mew measures need to be
implemented to help these families in crisis. Rehabilitation of the family unit is the answer, say many,
not punishment. In response to this, new ideas have formed to rehabilitate the family unit, but first, the
family structures that are precursors to delinquent behavior must be identified. Family Life,
Delinquency, and Crime: A Policymaker s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book focuses on single parent homes, parental involvement, family tension and family economics
as key factors of juvenile delinquency. Although, Mr. Trojanowicz states family economics plays a key
role in determining juvenile delinquency. A family s inability to provide for the material needs of a
child can create insecurity in a child, thus, the child may seek material needs and suport from outside
the family (77). In conclusion he finds that many delinquents do not come from low income families,
and the economic condition of the family is probably one of the least meaningful contributing factors.
The research clearly shows and supports the theory that the family structure is directly related to
juvenile delinquency. What is society doing to help these families in trouble? Competency Training,
the Office of Juvenile Justice and Dleinquency Prevention (OJJDP), examines one of the family
programs that have been established. The program they examined was, Iowa s Strenghtening Families
Program. (ISFP) The SFP is a 7 week course designed to bring parents together with their 10 to 14
year old children, with the goal of reducing substance abuse and other problem behavior in youth. The
curriculum uses parallel content to emphasize, to the family and the youth, improved parenting skills,
and better communication for both parents and the youth. For example, while the parents are learning

The Fourth Amendment Protects Citizens From Unreasonable...
The Fourth
Amendment protects citizens from unreasonable search and seizure of property. This ensures that the
government cannot take a private citizen s property without their consent, a warrant or probable cause.
The Fifth Amendment protects private property in two ways. The first, it ensures that a person cannot
be deprived of private property without due process of law. This means that if the government is to
seize private property they must compensate the owner for the property being seized. The second way
it protects a person s property is by limiting eminent domain, or the right of the government to seize
land for public use, with compensation. In order for a plot of land to be seized it must meet the criteria
of eminent domain. This means that the property being seized must be for the benefit of the public and
the owner of the property must receive full, market priced compensation for the property. Some might
argue that Khosla s land should be seized via eminent domain; however, that would mean that: a.
Khosla would need to be compensated more than $35 million dollars (2015 USD inflation calculated)
in taxpayer money for the property and b. allowing access to a beach does not necessarily benefit the
public in the same way building a road, or an irrigation system would. Critics of Khosla s actions

Discrimination Is A Fight For Equality
Such discrimination and prejudice exists in society to a huge degree. I personally believe that the only
difference between today and history is that people who feel such racial hate towards this population
tend to hide their feelings in fear of law suits. Furthermore, society has changed in a way that it shuns
the outspoken racism but turns a blind eye to the ones spoken and acted behind closed doors and in
darkness. In the past, during the huge waves of immigration from Mexico, these employment
discriminations might not have been such a big deal because most of the Mexicans that came were
agricultural workers; but as time progressed, and more educational and work opportunities presents
itself, discrimination has taken a step from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ultimately, the Commission required the divestment of Glencore s minority stake (7 percent) in and

smelter, Nyrstar, originally due to run until 2018, as conditions to approving the transaction. As part of
the deal with the Commission, struck in late November 2012, Glencore also committed not to enter
into any other commercial arrangements with Nyrstar for ten years. The clearance came despite the
concerns expressed by the European Steel Association (EUROFER), whose members purchase much
of the commodity grade zinc traded in Europe for use as corrosion resistant coatings (galvanizing) in
steel products. MOFCOM took its time in reviewing the transaction almost twice the normal
maximum statutory period allowed for merger reviews under China s Anti Monopoly Law, which can
last up to 180 days. As MOFCOM noted in its published decision, the parties withdrew their filing
towards the end of the statutory review period, and then re submitted the filing. This pull and refile
effectively reset the clock on the review time line and provided MOFCOM with extra time to review
the transaction. It s to be expected and entirely legitimate for a country s competition authority to
thoroughly examine a transaction that has potentially anticompetitive impacts on its industries and
consumers, and to focus on such aspects of the transaction that pose the most threat to

The Theme of Colonialism in Shakespeare s Tempest Essay...
The Tempest, by Shakespeare, offers the reader a variety of themes. The one theme that stands out the
most is that of colonialism. During the time of Shakespeare, many European countries such as Spain,
France, and England, were expanding their borders by taking over less developed countries, referred
to as colonies. During this time of exploitation, there was skepticism concerning the possible success
of the colonies. While some scholars believe that the play is about the Americas, I argue that the play
reflects on colonialism in general and how it is destined for failure which is shown through the
character s relationships throughout the play. During the 1600 s the English decided to have people
colonize in the Americas for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to these debates, it s possible that Shakespeare has contemplated on the different views on
colonization and decided not only to create the setting of the play on an island, but uses the storm in
the first act as way to create excitement and danger and also to reference to the perils of the struggle of
exploration. Also the title of the play is The Tempest which also hints how powerful the storms of the
ocean are, that it can determine the fate of many people as seen in the play; and is relatable to real life
events such as the one described earlier. The Tempest also reflect the concerns of the times such as the
exploration of foreign lands and struggles for power and the colonization of lands as seen in the role
of the characters in the play. The roles the characters have in the play are an essential in the expression
of colonization and how it destined for failure. In The Tempest, Shakespeare shows hints of
colonization problems in a subtle manner. The character Prospero, for example, can be seen playing
the role of the colonist, because he was usurped from his dukedom for neglecting his duties as a duke,
he sees the island as a way to be able to exercise the power he had but did not exercise in his
dukedom. In this case, he s able to use all the knowledge and magic he knows to be able to conjure up
the storm and to be able to control nature. His control over

Janet Reimer s Procedure
August 22, 1965, Janet Reimer gave birth to two flawless twin baby boys, Bruce and Brian. The two
twins were everything Janet had been wanting since she was a little girl. Her life couldn t have been

A month later Janet and Ron took Bruce and Brian in for a regular circumcision. There was a terrible
mistake in Bruce s procedure. Instead of burning off the skin, Bruce s entire penis was burned. Bruce s
parents were devastated with the outcome of the procedure and they had no idea what to do.
One day Janet and Ron s saving grace came along, Dr. Money. Dr. Money had a theory that children
are gender neutral and can be both a boy or girl depending how they are raised. Janet and Ron got

Purgatorio Essay
Purgatorio
Perhaps the best place to begin a consideration of Purgatorio is not its beginning but its middle. In
cantos 16 18, the central three of this the central canticle, we learn about love and free will, perhaps
the two principles most important to an understanding of the whole of the Comedy. Because our
modern novelistic tradition of structure has led us to expect our plots to be arranged climactically, we
tend to find this kind of geometric construction artificial and surprising, even though the practice was
fairly common in medieval literature. Dante had himself already experimented with this kind of
structure in La Vita Nuova. La Chanson of Roland, to cite another well known example, seems by our
standards to drag on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this to be comprehensible, we must understand that Dante considers instinct a form of love,
natural or animal love, which can never be sinful. A second kind of love, however, mind directed love,
can fail in one of three ways and so be sinful, and in explaining this Virgil also explains the way the
central portion of Purgatorio is structured around the concept of the seven deadly sins. One can go
wrong by loving things one should not, (pride, envy, and anger), by loving what one should love, but
with insufficient intensity (sloth) or by loving as ends in themselves things that one should love only
in proper relationship to primary ends. In indulging these impulses, therefore, and so committing sins,
one is motivated by a species of love.
In canto 18, however, Dante pursues the relationship between free will and love one step further. If
love is a powerful force innate in each individual, what merit is there in loving good or blame in
loving ill? The answer is that Reason must surely guard the threshold of consent, for only with full
consent of the will can a soul be held guilty of sin. Traditional medieval psychology held that sin
involved three steps: attraction, delectation or delight, and consent. One perceives with the senses
something to which one is attracted and then forms within the mind an image of the object of
attraction in which to take delight. These two actions, the attraction or perception and the taking of

How Does Sherman Alexie Use Situational Irony
Reporting the effects of irony
According to Buzzfeed s 19 Most Interesting Facts of All Time, 315 entries in Webster s 1996
dictionary were misspelled. This is ironic because dictionaries should have the correct spelling of all
words. Even though Webster s dictionary did not misspell the words on purpose, it is ironic many
authors use irony in their stories to make them more interesting. The author used this idea of life being
ironic in these three short stories: Sherman Alexie s Because My Father Always Said He Was The
Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play The Star Spangled Banner At Woodstock, Flannery O
Conner s A Good Man Is Hard To Find, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez s A Very Old Man With

authors, all three authors use situational irony to make the stories more interesting.

Auguste Rodin s Gates Of Hell
Essay 2: An Analysis of Figural Movement and Non Textual Depictions of Dante Alighieri s The
Divine Comedy in the Sculptural Motivations of Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell.
The primary motivation for Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell are based on the desire to interpret Dante
Alighieri s The Divine Comedy through amore individual response to the text. Rodin avoided a
traditional interpretation of Dante s narrative by creating his own form of chaotic view of hell through
a modern 19th century perspective. During this the middle to late 19th century, Rodin sought shift the
focus away from literary interpretations of art, which had become the dominant form of interpretation
of classical themes in France. The Gates of Hell was to avoid these text based views of Dante s work
as a motivation for Rodin s commission for the doors as an early form of modernity in sculpture:

In this compositional form, the chaos of human forms seen suffering and writhing in hell are one way
in which Rodin deviated from the text that he was initially supposed to follow from the Divine

which was individualistically interpretative and went against traditional forms of literary interpretation
in French classical art. The chaos of the human forms depicted on the gates of hell define the
individualism of the sculptor s point of view, which sought to remove the sickly aspects of literary
culture that was so dominant in French artistic culture. Rodin sought to move away from these

Notes On Acids And Bases
Topic: Acids and Bases.
Introduction
Acids are chemical agents that, when mixed with water, release hydrogen ions. Acids have a pH of
under 7 on the pH scale.(Williams, 2016) An acid produces a sour taste, like Vinegar, and gives off a
strong smell, that burns the human nose. Acids are often very sticky, and react strongly with metals,
and create a chemical reaction to form H2. (Guch, 2003) A Base is the complete opposite of an Acid,
and describes a substance that is above 7 on the pH scale. Bases have a more higher potential than
Acids to accept Hydrogen Ions. This means that rather than releasing ions, as an Acid would, a Base
accepts the ions.(Morrissey, 2016) Similar to Acids, Bases provide a Bitter taste, like Cocoa Beans, or
Bicarb Soda. Bases, unlike Acids, do not usually give off a distinct smell, but are usually quite
slippery. Bases react with most oils and fats, such as Detergent reacting with human skin, and slowly
breaking down the oils and fats in the skin tissue.(Guch, 2003)
The universal indicator is used for specifying whether a substance is a Base, Neutral, or an Acid along
the pH scale, by measuring the concentration of H3O+ ions in a substance. (N.a, 2016) The pH scale
is a scale that determines whether a substance is an Acid product, or a Basic product. The H in pH
stands for Hydrogen, however, the p is often debated, therefore is thought of as the power of the
hydrogen. (Morrissey, 2016) The pH scales ranges from ranking between 0 (Being more

Essay on Picasso
Art represents beauty. It represents the soul and spirit of the artist. It s a form of communication that
the artist can use as a substitution for words. Art has flourished the world for thousands of years and it
has no intentions on stopping. One of quot;the most important figure s in modern art quot; (Selfridge,
15) is a man by the name of Pablo Picasso. He has taken the world into many places and has enabled
us to see many abstract creations through his artwork alone. (Selfridge, 20) Born on October 25, 1881,
Picasso was a miracle right from the start. There were complications with birth and everyone was sure
that he wasn t going to make it, but then Picasso s uncle, Salvador Ruiz, was able to make this tragedy

period. (Selfridge, 85) Although Picasso left back to Spain, he agreed and they made arrangements to
make an exchange every month. Picasso received word that a well respected art dealer named
Ambroise Vollard wanted to exhibit his work, so Picasso returned to Paris for the occasion. (Selfridge,

the exhibit was opened. Picasso returned to Spain and continued his work there. A good friend of his
named Casagemos committed suicide, which made Picasso very depressed. He showed his emotions
through his work by painting mostly in shades of blue. This is known as his blue period, where all his
subjects dealt with poverty, depression, and human struggle. (Westernbaker, 162) In 1905, Picasso met
a woman named Gertrude Stein and he immediately wanted to use her in his portraits. It took him

There are three basic approaches by which DP steels are produced commercially:
1. During the hot rolling cycles, only dual phases can be formed.
2. Hot or cold rolled strip is uncoiled, and continuous annealing is done at the Intercritical annealing

The Population Of Young Immigrants And The United Kingdom
Abstract The study emphasized on the encounters and experiences of irregular migrant children who,
via a number of different routes and circumstances, to live in the United Kingdom short of legal
dwelling status and inhabitant youngsters who stay with a minimum of one unauthorized parent. The
study reveals the numerous techniques in which inadequate legal status influence the well being of
child migrants directly as well as through their parentages, influential their social worlds, and most
significantly, their likelihoods for the future (Sigona, Hughes, 2010). Through investigation of
facilities and resources accessible to the children, the research is meant to shed light on migrant
youngsters experience with community services and the difficulties and peculiarities of the migration
structures at the period of economic recession and fundamental reorganization of the public services.
Concerning education, the research focused principally on access to and involvements with formal
education (Sigona, Hughes, 2010). Research Aims The aim of the research is to investigate the profile
of the populace of youngsters deprived of legal migration status in the United Kingdom. The research
also looks at the children s rights and powers, specifically in relation to training and health care; it also
explores in specific, the association between migration and the welfare of child legislation, comprising
how it marks the statutory obligation of public service suppliers (Sigona,

Dantes Inferno
Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli demonstrated that the different critical exegetical positions, regarding the
Divine Comedy (whose intent appears on one side as a disciplinary and moral renewal of the Church,
and on the other side as a hidden, heretical reversion) were not free from contemporary pressures. In
fact, their own theories are able to offer a valid evidence of the nineteenth century s political and
religious debates, and for this reason, I am going to analyse the interpretation of Dante s work by Ugo
Foscolo, through both, the Discorso sul testo della Divina Commedia , and two articles that Foscolo
published in the Edinburgh Review in 1818; in addition, I am going to analyse the interpretation by
Rossetti through his work titled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously, being impossible to summarize the vast, esoteric, exegesis of Dante proposed by them, I
am feeling obliged to try to highlight some common key of readings as, for example: 1) the relation
between the symbol of the Cross (representing the Roman Church) and the Eagle (representing the
Empire), whose doctrines are linked to mankind s need for salvation. These two institutions (Church
and Empire), according Dante s thought, had to be both settled at the centre of Rome, as at the time of
the Holy Roman Empire. In addition, according to Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, Dante attacked the
Church exclusively because he wanted the renewal of the spiritual dimension, where the Church had
to abandon its material interests, leaving exclusively to the Empire the task to unify Peoples under a
unique government. In this way, both Church and Empire would have been able to help humankind for
their spiritual and material ends. 2) Another common key of reading, for Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, is
linked with the symbol of Beatrice, which is seen by the three interpreters, not as a real woman, but as
a symbol of the wisdom, present in many ancient traditions. 3) I will try to highlight the fact that the
esoteric reading of Dante, is considered by both, Foscolo and Rossetti in key heterodox, neo
Pythagorean and Ghibelline, while it is considered by Valli in super catholic key. In brief, in my thesis,
I will try to find all common passages of Dante s oeuvre, used by Foscolo,Rossetti and Valli, analysing
and comparing them in a more rigorous possible

A Summary Of The Movie Smoke Signals
Often relationships with others can be formed at an early age. Relationships can vary from being
friendships, or even ones formed between family members. Many relationships can prove to be
complex and tend to evolve over time. Both This is what it means to say Phoenix, Arizona by , and the
movie Smoke Signals illustrate the complexity of relationships between individuals.
As shown in the first scene of the movie we can see that Thomas and Victor have been together for a
long time. While the house was burning down, they were both being held and they were beside each
other. Although much of their time spent together as children is not displayed in the movie we learn
about their childhood interactions through the scenes depicted in Phoenix . In the short story, we learn
of a few memories that Victor and Thomas share; When they were younger the two boys watched
fireworks together on the fourth of July, as well as riding bikes together. Furthermore, the friendship
between the boys can be seen when Thomas saves Victor after he has stepped on a wasp s nest. In the
begging of the short story the relationship between Thomas and victor is shown as being friendly
towards each other; however, as the story progresses we can see the relationship continuing to evolve.
This proves to the reader how complex relationships between what appears to be two childhood
friends can be.
A contributing factor to the fallout of the friendship between Thomas and Victor would be how

Deciet and Trickery in Shakespeare´s Much Ado About...
Deceit and trickery play a huge part in the play Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare.
Deception is a key theme in the play, it also moves the plot along. Trickery and deception is used in
the love stories of couples Hero and Claudio, and Benedick and Beatrice, with opposite results. This
play demonstrates two different kinds of deceit: the kind whose only purpose is to cause trouble, and
the kind that is used to form a good outcome. In the relationship of Hero and Claudio, deception
nearly succeeds in breaking them apart forever, while in the case of Benedick and Beatrice, it brings
them closer together. The first use of trickery in Hero and Claudio s relationship is when Claudio s
friend, Don Pedro, pretends to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All throughout the beginning of the play, both Beatrice and Benedick use sarcasm and hide their true
feelings for each other, which is the first example of tricky in their relationship. Both of them have
vowed never to marry anyone; Benedick stating: Because I will not do them the wrong to mistrust any,
I will do myself the right to trust none; and the fine is, for the which I may go the finer, I will live a
bachelor. (1.1.232 35), while Beatrice says, No, uncle, I ll none. Adam s sons are my brethren, and
truly I hold it a sin to match in my kindred. (2.1.59 60.) Their friends see that they are the perfect
match for one another, and plan to trick them into confessing their love for each other. When Benedick
is in the orchard, he overhears Don Pedro, Claudio, and Leonato talking about how Beatrice is in love
with him but is afraid he will mock her if she tells him. Benedick believes them, saying, This can be
no trick. (2.3.217.) He then goes on to say, I will be horribly in love with her. (2.3.230 31.) Later,
Beatrice hears Hero and Ursula talking about how they can t tell her that Benedick loves her because
she is a scornful person. After Hero and Ursula leave, Beatrice states:
And Benedick, love on; I will requite thee,
Taming my wild heart to thy loving hand.
If thou dost love, my kindness shall incite thee
To bind our loves up in a holy band. (3.2.111 14)

Different Methods For Harmonic Distortion
INTRODUCTION
Different detection methods for harmonic distortion already exist, but the following shortage make
them did not reflect fully the influence of harmonic on distribution system [4]: Don t consider the
progressive effect of harmonic current on the energy dissipation in distribution system. Don t
distinguish the direction of harmonic distortion. Does the customer with nonlinear Loads pollutes the
distribution system or the utility background harmonic pollutes the customer with linear loads?
Harmonics represents a financial lamb to customers who do not generate them, so the harmonic
distortion penalty should be inclusive in a utility s rate structure.
In the present, the tariff of the electrical energy is based on the traditional concepts of active, reactive,
and apparent power, and related power factor. These concepts are well defined for sinusoidal
conditions. Unfortunately, in non sinusoidal conditions, these traditional definitions of power
component are not reliable anymore.
The paper concerns with this matter, and aims towards the development of an adequate method
dealing with the possibility of determining the responsibility of the harmonic distortion through billing
quantities . The authors have presented some research that established the idea of this paper, as
follows: The definitions of power components under non sinusoidal conditions in Ref. [2], which
include some parameters for the correct attribution of responsibility between customers and

When a loved when is gone it feels like a hole in the world. With much grief he says, Never again will
anyone inhabit the world the way he did. Questions I have can never now get answers. The world is
emptier. My son is gone. Only a hole remains, Avoid, a gap, never to be filled (33). This phrase
describes his emotions and how he views the world without his son. The author gives advice on what
to say to someone who is mourning. He says to never say its Ok because its never okay and death is
awful. What I need to hear from you is that you recognize how painful it is. I need to hear from you
that you are with me in my desperation (34). When some passes away no one really knows what his or
her loved ones are feeling because each death is unique and each person is different. The wisest of
words don t even make the pain go away, and all that can be done is lending an ear to listen, a
shoulder to lean on.
When there is nothing one can do to make things better again, to bring someone back, to be happy
again, all your left is emptiness. The author feels like something is over and that his life is divided in a
before and after. Something is over (46). The author goes on to have an out of body experience where
he attaches himself to Eric. He realizes that Eric s death is not only his loss but also Eric s loss
because he will never be able to do things he always wanted to do or be with his family again. The

As such, the film follows the relationship that existed between two brothers and opera performers that
acted on the stage. It also brings out the issue of how women were treated in the ancient Chinese
cultures both socially and politically. In addition, the two stage brothers spent their childhood in an
academy (Chen). Following the death of Chen, the lives of the major characters in the movie are tied
to the happenings that took place in the twentieth century in the history of the Chinese people. Chen
who was brought up to take care of the female roles in the society meets Duan and falls in love with
him. However, the attraction he had towards her is not reciprocated. Rather, Duan decides to marry
Juxian who was a courtesan. In most parts of the film, the relationship that existed between the
brothers is emphasized as a form of true love. As such, various masculine and feminine issues are

The Motivation For Jerry And Christopher At A Ice Cream...
During my screenplay workshop, I received a lot of helpful suggestions on my overall motivation of
my characters. In my revision process, I tried to focus more on the overall motive for my two main
characters. For example, I added the motivation for Jerry and Christopher to open an ice cream parlor.
This helped with my revision of plot and main conflict because the two characters did not have
enough money for the down payment on the open space. As a result, they decide to rob a bank in order
to get the money for the payment. Another thing I tried to work on during my revision was the
characterization of my two main characters. The two characters are, indeed, stupid. However, my goal
was to make their appearance a little different and they way they spoke different. An example of my
use of characterization is when Christopher speaks. For example, Christopher is very goofy like Jerry.
However, he has a small sense of responsibility/wisdom. In the car, he is the one to have a notebook
with all the information on the vacant space and bank. Moreover, he is the one that starts to become
serious when he fights the hostage in the bank. Although both of the characters are stupid, Christopher
s character is what keeps the guys going. Without Chris, Jerry would be clueless. We can see Jerry s
characterization through his actions. Jerry does not think anything through. For instance, in the bank,
he brings in business cards with both their names on them. This is something stupid

It is assumed Isaac Newton witnessed an apple fall from a tree thus beginning a thought process only
someone with an estimated IQ level of 190 would take the time to think about. He began thinking that
the force which caused the apple to be attracted to the Earth couldn t be any different from the force
which causes the moon to be attracted to the earth; remaining in orbit. Both objects are being pulled
towards the earth, however the moon, unlike the apple isn t crashing into our home planet. The moon
is moving sideways so quickly that it s missing our planet completely which is what is keeping it in
orbit. Next time I get pulled over, I m going to have to tell the police officer, that if the moon speeds to
avoiding crashing into something on earth, so am I. Newton realized that however this gravitational
force worked, any other object with mass would probably behave the exact same way, whether it be
another planet, the sun, or you falling into bed after a long day. Newton s Law of Gravitation directly
states any two bodies attract each other with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their
masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. Wow, that s a mouthful.

can shot and fired at a cinder block. The arrows will be measured from the front of the arrow before
the shooting to the fletchings. Then after being fired they will be measured from the break to the

The carbon arrow is not a significant weight difference when comparing arrows of similar spine

My Search Research Paper
Turning a Passion into a Career
The Story of My Search
Throughout my life, the outdoors have been a large part of me. I was lucky enough to be raised by a
family of hunters, being brought into the sport by my grandpa, dad, and uncle. Each and every year we
take part in hunting white tailed deer and turkey. When we re together, hearing stories of past hunts is
routine. Looking at the shoulder mount of a buck or the spread fan and beard on the wall never fails to
stir something up. Our family addiction has carried on through generations. However, as time has
passed so has hunting.
Early on, hunting for me was waiting for opening day to come and hitting the woods. But I began to
notice something, I never saw any deer. Back in elementary school, ... Show more content on

Using the best available science/technology, conservationist work together to create a more
sustainable environment for a specific species in need or all species in the area. Common practices in
management are food plots, harvest age limit, prescribed fires, population control, and so on. A proper
food source one of the most important parts of management. My main research pertains to whitetail
deer therefore, one major takeaway I received was how deer have different nutritional needs
throughout the year. For example, a deer will eat mostly high quality forbs, legumes, and browse
plants during the spring. As summer progresses, these higher quality plants become less available and
deer shift their diet more towards moderate quality browse such as shrubs and vines. During the fall, a
deer s diet may shift to acorns when they are available, and then shift again to browse and even some
grasses during the winter. (www.mdwfp). Acquiring this knowledge allows me to plan which
nutritional sources we have on our farm and which ones we need. It also gives me a better
understanding on where to hunt in the

The Three Important Aspects Of Elite Decision-Making
There are many different aspects of elite decisions that need to be considered by actors. When looking
at how elites make decisions, there is one theory that uses three important aspects of the decision
making process. Prospect theory looks at the domain that the actor is in during the decision making
process and that can determine whether or not they are likely to make risky conclusions along with
comparing utility and risk propensity to make informed resolutions. Prospect theory best explains elite
decision making and can be explained using Truman s choice to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
The combination of utility maximization, framing and risk propensity creates a parsimonious theory
that covers all major aspects of elite decision making. History of the Bomb The Manhattan Project
began in 1941 when President Franklin Roosevelt was convinced by Albert Einstein to start the
project. When Roosevelt died on April 12th, the bomb had not been tested and effects of the bomb
were widely contested between scientists. Harry Truman, who was known for his common sense
mentality and quick decision making, became president following Roosevelt s death. On April 24th,
Truman was given detailed information about the Manhattan Project, and the atomic bomb. Truman
was not sure of its practicality, but with the war raging on, he kept it in the back of his ... Show more

The framing effect is observed when the description of options in terms of gains (positive frame)
rather than losses (negative frame) elicits systematically different choices. (Gonzalez 2005) The
classic example of this is what chances do you take in the event of a deadly outbreak. Imagine that the
United States is preparing for an outbreak of an unusual disease that is expected to kill 600 people.
Two alternative programs to combat the disease have been proposed. Scientific estimates of the
consequences are as follows: Positive

Julius Caesar Ethos Pathos Logos Essay
Ethos, Pathos, Logos
Some of the most famous writers from William Shakespeare to John Green have used three different
persuasive techniques for several years. Have you ever heard of ethos, pathos, and logos? In the
famous tragedy of Julius Caesar the author William Shakespeare uses ethos, pathos, and logos for
persuading something or someone. In Julius Caesar Shakespeare uses these traits in Brutus s and
Antony s funeral speeches to persuade the citizens of Rome to hear them out. In the tragedy Caesar
was the emperor of Rome until his own senators killed him. The senators claimed they had to kill him
because he was getting to ambitious and it was getting worse. They had to save the citizens before
they start to get hurt by Caesar s actions. The most ethos, pathos, and logos takes place at the funeral
when Brutus and Antony talk about why Caesar had to die. Ethos, Pathos, and logos are all used in the
tragedy of Julius Caesar s funeral scene, some more effectively than others but they are all used to
persuade the crowd one way or another.

Here Brutus is trying to get the citizens at the funeral to listen to him because of his reputation of
being an honorable man. Shakespeare uses ethos in not only in Brutus speech but also in Antony s. In
front of Caesars body Antony says, He was my friend, faithful and just to me. (III.ii.82). Antony is
saying that Caesar was always fair and only a friend like him would understand that. Antony says I
will not do them wrong; I rather choose to wrong the dead, to wrong myself and you, than I will
wrong such honorable men. (III.ii.122 124). Here Antony is using a strong sense of ethos because he is
showing his character by proving himself a worthy man to Rome. Brutus tends to really get the
audience appealed to his reasoning by using ethos which led to his success of winning the citizens

John Mcdonald s Influence On Canadian History
I view the old cover as telling me that Canadian history is made up of many different people and
events. Many different individuals who helped shape Canada today bare the cover, as well as different
objects that represent different events.
Near the top of the textbook, right near the title, there is a British flag. Britain had a gargantuan impact
on Canadian history, as Canada was a British colony and Britain continues to influence Canada today.
For example, in Canada we often use British spelling instead of American spelling, like the words
colour, instead of color, and grey, instead of gray.
To the right of the title is a picture of John A. Macdonald, who was essential to Canadian history. He
was the first prime minister of Canada, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These women represent the part women took in Canadian history. Women did not get the right to vote
in federal elections in Canada until 1918, and the first female to practice medicine did not get licensed
in Canada until 1875. The first female judge in Canada was appointed in 1916, and she faced many
challenges, such as male lawyers stating that, because she was a woman, she was therefore not a
person under the law. It was not until 1929 that women were considered persons .
Underneath the two women are RCMP officers. RCMP stands for Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
When people from foreign countries think of Canada, many think of the RCMP. The RCMP was
founded in 1920, and continues to be a symbol of Canada today.
The last picture on the front cover is of a female nurse. She represents the nurses of World War I.
World War began in 1914, and ended in 1918. A total of 3141 Canadian volunteered in this war, and
out of the 2,504 nurses overseas, 53 were killed either by drowning, disease, or enemy fire, while
others were killed in the line of duty by bombings in Europe at Canadian hospitals.
Now, we go to the back cover. The first picture on the back cover, in the top right corner, is a
gramophone. A gramophone is a music player that plays records. In Canada, the gramophone s leading
seller was the Berliner Gram o phone Company of

Cyber Security Attacks And Intrusion Detection System
Threats to critical information and systems have been evolving as the need to store information in the
database increases. As technology increases in a rapid pace, so does the number of computer users.
With this increase of users, the number of targets that presents itself for exploitation surges. Although,
the types of targets and attacks change, classifications of attacks remain the same; exploiting user
errors, hardware resources malfunction, and software weaknesses/glitches. Government and corporate
agency have developed analysis of a variety of cyber attacks and how it affects certain environments
or individuals in a real world situation. The main goal is for these agencies to focus on how network
simulation model have been developed for generating representative cyber attacks and intrusion
detection system. While variety of models is primarily designed to be used in testing cyber situational
awareness and analysis tools, other applications can be utilized such as training analysts or public
presentation could be an effective use of the model. Cyber security threats in the 21st century are in its
early stages, mainly because government or corporate officials do not have the proper understanding
of what is needed to develop a cyber security program or where to initiate the program for their
agency or company. Public views of misconception will give new understanding on how severe cyber
threats can develop within society and how individuals need to be familiarized in

City Of Detroit Case Study
On Thursday, July 28, 2013, Detroit, Michigan became the largest city in America ever to file for
bankruptcy. Established in 1701, Detroit was founded by the French explorer Antoine de la Mothe
Cadillac and a party of settlers. None of these men had any idea that Detroit would evolve into the
thriving hub of the car industry in centuries to come. In 1756, the smallpox virus and a famine
threatened the many settlers in Detroit, but did not decimate the population enough to cause the city to
collapse. In 1802, Detroit officially became a chartered city. In the United States, a charter city is a
city in which the governing system is defined by the city s own charter document rather than by state,

The 12th Street riot, one of the biggest riots in American history, took place in the city. The riot put
Detroit police against inner city black residents, and escalated to National Guard troops being called in
to fight residents. The tragic riot cost the lives of 43 people, 342 were injured, and an astounding
7,200 civilians were arrested. 60,000 black residents of Virginia Park neighborhood were packed into
only 460 acres and were ready to explode. One night, an illegal nightclub near the neighborhood was
hosting a party on the corner of 12th street when police arrived to arrest those in the establishment.
When one bottle crashed on the street, the police showed no interest; but when many glass bottles
were thrown at patrol cars at once,, heads turned. The riot escalated rapidly throughout the following
hours and days until order was finally restored multiple days later. This was the event that caused
people to realise that Detroit was on a downward spiral and was traveling

Short Story A Story
It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer three teenage girls went missing in the quiet town of
Maysville. This was the uttermost significant news the town ever received since a small scale fire in
1978. This news had the whole town wondering who would make a decision like this. There were no
unusual suspects that would do such an occurrence like this. The parents had every police officer and
sheriff looking for their children. The girls who went missing were not out of the ordinary children.
They were all sophisticated and mature young ladies (in public). They never provoked anyone or
caused any drama with anyone. They were friends with everyone and were very well known for their
friendly deeds. This is why the whole town was so shaken when they went missing, but little did they
know about their private lives. The first girl, Brooke Saldivar, was a girl you would think who would
never do anything terrible. Brooke was from one of the wealthier families in town, so she had a
reputation to keep up. She kept her private life so private, none of her family suspected she was doing
anything villainous. She was a very devious and manipulative person. She had no serious family
problems, but she did have telling the truth problems. The second girl, Kya Bryce, was an only child
of a wealthy family, but she had several family problems behind closed doors. Her family was a
picture perfect family, but her parents were never genuinely involved in their daughter s life. Kya was
basically allowed to do anything she wanted, as long as she wasn t getting pregnant. Her parents
would buy her whatever she wanted just to make her be quiet. Although she had all these problems,
she was still one of the more respectable people in town. The third girl, Tanya Rhoney, was another
girl from one of the wealthiest families in town, except hers was the wealthiest, so she has even more
of an obligation to keep their family reputation, an excellent reputation. She had a plethora of social
pressure on her, so she turned to drinking and drugs. She would never do anything deleterious around
her town and she would never party with anyone outside of their group. Her parents were concerned
about her, but they would never do anything

  • 2. Tuckman Group Development I enjoyed playing high school and college basketball, however after suffering from a life changing permanent injury I couldn t continue being an active player on my team. Nonetheless, I did not want to allow this injury to ruin my passion for the sport. Consequently, I chose to invest lots of hours into learning the coaching and recruiting characteristics of the sport. Reading Bruce Tuckman s iconic description of the stages of group development has really made it easy for me to understand my experience during the time I attended a coaching basketball camp with nine other prospective upcoming basketball coaches like myself. It all started when MaxPreps, America s source for high school sports organized a camp for upcoming basketball coaches from various states where we had to be out camping for five days, during this experience we will collaboratively fulfill various tasks delegated to each team participating in the event. Given my extensive experience in coaching, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the second day, MaxPrep s chairman introduced my team to the tasks that our group will be held accountable for in the remaining four days; the task was to create a succinct infomercial positing important characteristic of a great basketball coach. At this point in time is when conflicts began to surface. The first disagreement occurred at the time my group gathered to appoint a team lead who will oversee the team. Both formal and informal leaders play an instrumental role in lending credibility to the project and in guiding project participants and others within the organization (Freshman, 2011 p. 49). Those who wanted leadership positions were asked to step forward, with various beliefs and opinions formulated, some spoke up and passionately proclaim who they want to lead, others simply opposed, while the timid ones in the group remained silent and waited for a newly appointed leaders to be ... • 3. Analysis of the Success of Cultural Change Within British... 1.1INTRODUCTION British Airways came into existence in 1935, when smaller privately owned UK airlines merged. Another change occurred when the Government nationalised British Airways and Imperial Airways to form BOAC The British Overseas Airways Corporation. During this period, external markets were more stable and predictable and there was no real need for BA to adopt competitive strategies, being that there was little competition from rivals. There appears to be little in the way of strategy formulation and strategy implementation. This was mainly due to the established strategy and organisation environment remaining largely unchanged. Any change in BA s strategy would have developed in an incremental fashion, an almost natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bulk of BA s history has been spent as a nationalised industry in a fairly stable environment. 1.3 CORPORATE CULTURE DEFINED Management researchers seem to agree that the things that companies do called corporate culture is an intangible concept and hence difficult to define. Among the attempts to define corporate culture , the following definition is useful as a starting point: culture represents an interdependent set of values and ways of behaving that are common in a community and that tend to perpetuate themselves, sometimes over long periods of time (Kotter and Heskett,1992,141) Peters and Watermann argue that changing a culture cannot be accomplished. 1.4 CHANGES WITH BA DUE TO EXTERNAL PRESSURES The story of British Airways is one of the most widely used inspirational accounts of changing culture (Heller 1992). BA faced two external pressures. The Thatcher government was threatening to privatise it and also the deregulation of the industry worldwide. Within Lundberg s model of the organisational learning cycle, he suggests that in order for cultural change to occur the requisite external and internal circumstances must occur. He describes the two external enabling conditions. These are known as domain forgiveness the degree of threat due to instability of the environment and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. It Is The Greatest Mystery Of All How can a three pound mass of jelly that you can hold in your palm imagine angels, contemplate the meaning of infinity, and even question its own place in the cosmos? Especially awe inspiring is the fact that any single brain, including yours, is made up of atoms that were forged in the hearts of countless, far flung stars billions of years ago. These particles drifted for eons and light years until gravity and change brought them together here, now. These atoms now form a conglomerate your brain that can not only ponder the very stars that gave it birth but can also think about its own ability to think and wonder about its own ability to wonder. With the arrival of humans, it has been said, the universe has suddenly become conscious of itself. This, truly, it the greatest mystery of all. VS Ramachandran After the first unit and research paper, the classmates of PSYV 358 learned all about what consciousness is: how it is defined, different theories of why it exists, its benefits. I specifically learned that consciousness could ultimately be defined as the state or quality of awareness. It is often described as an evolved property, one that as far as we are able to define, is unique to humans at the level of self consciousness. Going back to Chalmers, and the neuroscientific problems of consciousness, it could be said that answering where is consciousness? would fall under the category of the hard problem. Restated from the last research paper, the hard problem is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Norman Conquest By Marc Morris, The Narrative Of The... The Norman Conquest by Marc Morris is a narrative of the Norman invasion of 1066. Since the events happened so long ago, there are many incomplete accounts of the events. Even these incomplete accounts are usually heavily biased. As such, it is a difficult undertaking for a historian to construct a cohesive summary of the period. Nevertheless, Marc Morris attempted the task, and did an admirable job. It is written as a narrative, but has enough detail to satisfy a student of history. Morris begins by exploring the history of one of the few sources that remain of the Norman invasion, the Bayeux tapestry. The tapestry has had a long history of trading hands and escaping harm seemingly miraculously. According to Morris, the Bayeux tapestry has survived looting in the French Revolution, was owned by Napoleon Bonaparte for a time, and was stolen by Nazis during their occupation of France in World War II. Aside from its own fascinating history, the tapestry itself is not a flawless source. Morris points out that it is in fact incomplete, as it abruptly stops at Harold Godwinson s death. It was also in part copied from older accounts of the invasion and therefore is not a primary source. It is also non committal in its portrayal of events and the captions are for the most part willfully obscure or ambiguous (p. 4). In other words, it seems intended more to be a narrative than as a factual historical record. Exact dates are often not given for important events, such as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Juvenile Delinquency Essay Juvenile delinquents, or youth that have been convicted of a crime, seem to be the norm these days. Citizens, families, and poliy makers want new programs and policies within the juvenile justice system. Researchers have found that the family structure can be a precursor to delinquent behavior, and families do not have the control or blance that they once did. As such, mew measures need to be implemented to help these families in crisis. Rehabilitation of the family unit is the answer, say many, not punishment. In response to this, new ideas have formed to rehabilitate the family unit, but first, the family structures that are precursors to delinquent behavior must be identified. The book focuses on single parent homes, parental involvement, family tension and family economics as key factors of juvenile delinquency. Although, Mr. Trojanowicz states family economics plays a key role in determining juvenile delinquency. A family s inability to provide for the material needs of a child can create insecurity in a child, thus, the child may seek material needs and suport from outside the family (77). In conclusion he finds that many delinquents do not come from low income families, and the economic condition of the family is probably one of the least meaningful contributing factors. The research clearly shows and supports the theory that the family structure is directly related to juvenile delinquency. What is society doing to help these families in trouble? Competency Training, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Dleinquency Prevention (OJJDP), examines one of the family programs that have been established. The program they examined was, Iowa s Strenghtening Families Program. • 9. The Fourth Amendment Protects Citizens From Unreasonable... The Fourth Amendment protects citizens from unreasonable search and seizure of property. This ensures that the government cannot take a private citizen s property without their consent, a warrant or probable cause. The Fifth Amendment protects private property in two ways. The first, it ensures that a person cannot be deprived of private property without due process of law. This means that if the government is to seize private property they must compensate the owner for the property being seized. The second way it protects a person s property is by limiting eminent domain, or the right of the government to seize land for public use, with compensation. In order for a plot of land to be seized it must meet the criteria of eminent domain. This means that the property being seized must be for the benefit of the public and the owner of the property must receive full, market priced compensation for the property. Some might argue that Khosla s land should be seized via eminent domain; however, that would mean that: a. Khosla would need to be compensated more than $35 million dollars (2015 USD inflation calculated) in taxpayer money for the property and b. allowing access to a beach does not necessarily benefit the public in the same way building a road, or an irrigation system would. I personally believe that the only difference between today and history is that people who feel such racial hate towards this population tend to hide their feelings in fear of law suits. Furthermore, society has changed in a way that it shuns the outspoken racism but turns a blind eye to the ones spoken and acted behind closed doors and in darkness. In the past, during the huge waves of immigration from Mexico, these employment discriminations might not have been such a big deal because most of the Mexicans that came were agricultural workers; but as time progressed, and more educational and work opportunities presents itself, discrimination has taken a step from ... Ultimately, the Commission required the divestment of Glencore s minority stake (7 percent) in and termination of its .8 recently renewed exclusive off take agreement with the world s largest zinc smelter, Nyrstar, originally due to run until 2018, as conditions to approving the transaction. As part of the deal with the Commission, struck in late November 2012, Glencore also committed not to enter into any other commercial arrangements with Nyrstar for ten years. The clearance came despite the concerns expressed by the European Steel Association (EUROFER), whose members purchase much of the commodity grade zinc traded in Europe for use as corrosion resistant coatings (galvanizing) in steel products. MOFCOM took its time in reviewing the transaction almost twice the normal maximum statutory period allowed for merger reviews under China s Anti Monopoly Law, which can last up to 180 days. As MOFCOM noted in its published decision, the parties withdrew their filing towards the end of the statutory review period, and then re submitted the filing. This pull and refile effectively reset the clock on the review time line and provided MOFCOM with extra time to review the transaction. • 13. The Theme of Colonialism in Shakespeare s Tempest Essay... The Tempest, by Shakespeare, offers the reader a variety of themes. The one theme that stands out the most is that of colonialism. During the time of Shakespeare, many European countries such as Spain, France, and England, were expanding their borders by taking over less developed countries, referred to as colonies. During this time of exploitation, there was skepticism concerning the possible success of the colonies. While some scholars believe that the play is about the Americas, I argue that the play reflects on colonialism in general and how it is destined for failure which is shown through the character s relationships throughout the play. During the 1600 s the English decided to have people colonize in the Americas for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to these debates, it s possible that Shakespeare has contemplated on the different views on colonization and decided not only to create the setting of the play on an island, but uses the storm in the first act as way to create excitement and danger and also to reference to the perils of the struggle of exploration. Also the title of the play is The Tempest which also hints how powerful the storms of the ocean are, that it can determine the fate of many people as seen in the play; and is relatable to real life events such as the one described earlier. The Tempest also reflect the concerns of the times such as the exploration of foreign lands and struggles for power and the colonization of lands as seen in the role of the characters in the play. The roles the characters have in the play are an essential in the expression of colonization and how it destined for failure. In The Tempest, Shakespeare shows hints of colonization problems in a subtle manner. The character Prospero, for example, can be seen playing the role of the colonist, because he was usurped from his dukedom for neglecting his duties as a duke, he sees the island as a way to be able to exercise the power he had but did not exercise in his dukedom. • 15. Purgatorio Essay Purgatorio Perhaps the best place to begin a consideration of Purgatorio is not its beginning but its middle. In cantos 16 18, the central three of this the central canticle, we learn about love and free will, perhaps the two principles most important to an understanding of the whole of the Comedy. Because our modern novelistic tradition of structure has led us to expect our plots to be arranged climactically, we tend to find this kind of geometric construction artificial and surprising, even though the practice was fairly common in medieval literature. Dante had himself already experimented with this kind of structure in La Vita Nuova. La Chanson of Roland, to cite another well known example, seems by our standards to drag on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this to be comprehensible, we must understand that Dante considers instinct a form of love, natural or animal love, which can never be sinful. A second kind of love, however, mind directed love, can fail in one of three ways and so be sinful, and in explaining this Virgil also explains the way the central portion of Purgatorio is structured around the concept of the seven deadly sins. One can go wrong by loving things one should not, (pride, envy, and anger), by loving what one should love, but with insufficient intensity (sloth) or by loving as ends in themselves things that one should love only in proper relationship to primary ends. In indulging these impulses, therefore, and so committing sins, one is motivated by a species of love. In canto 18, however, Dante pursues the relationship between free will and love one step further. If love is a powerful force innate in each individual, what merit is there in loving good or blame in loving ill? The answer is that Reason must surely guard the threshold of consent, for only with full consent of the will can a soul be held guilty of sin. Traditional medieval psychology held that sin involved three steps: attraction, delectation or delight, and consent. One perceives with the senses something to which one is attracted and then forms within the mind an image of the object of attraction in which to take delight. • 16. How Does Sherman Alexie Use Situational Irony Reporting the effects of irony According to Buzzfeed s 19 Most Interesting Facts of All Time, 315 entries in Webster s 1996 dictionary were misspelled. This is ironic because dictionaries should have the correct spelling of all words. Even though Webster s dictionary did not misspell the words on purpose, it is ironic many authors use irony in their stories to make them more interesting. The author used this idea of life being ironic in these three short stories: Sherman Alexie s Because My Father Always Said He Was The Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play The Star Spangled Banner At Woodstock, Flannery O Conner s A Good Man Is Hard To Find, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez s A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings: A Tale For Children. • 18. Auguste Rodin s Gates Of Hell Essay 2: An Analysis of Figural Movement and Non Textual Depictions of Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy in the Sculptural Motivations of Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell. The primary motivation for Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell are based on the desire to interpret Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy through amore individual response to the text. Rodin avoided a traditional interpretation of Dante s narrative by creating his own form of chaotic view of hell through a modern 19th century perspective. During this the middle to late 19th century, Rodin sought shift the focus away from literary interpretations of art, which had become the dominant form of interpretation of classical themes in France. The Gates of Hell was to avoid these text based views of Dante s work as a motivation for Rodin s commission for the doors as an early form of modernity in sculpture: Rodin s sculpture, for all its affinity to great literature from Dante to Baudelaire, has nothing ... • 19. Notes On Acids And Bases Topic: Acids and Bases. Introduction Acids are chemical agents that, when mixed with water, release hydrogen ions. Acids have a pH of under 7 on the pH scale.(Williams, 2016) An acid produces a sour taste, like Vinegar, and gives off a strong smell, that burns the human nose. Acids are often very sticky, and react strongly with metals, and create a chemical reaction to form H2. (Guch, 2003) A Base is the complete opposite of an Acid, and describes a substance that is above 7 on the pH scale. Bases have a more higher potential than Acids to accept Hydrogen Ions. This means that rather than releasing ions, as an Acid would, a Base accepts the ions.(Morrissey, 2016) Similar to Acids, Bases provide a Bitter taste, like Cocoa Beans, or Bicarb Soda. Bases, unlike Acids, do not usually give off a distinct smell, but are usually quite slippery. Bases react with most oils and fats, such as Detergent reacting with human skin, and slowly breaking down the oils and fats in the skin tissue.(Guch, 2003) The universal indicator is used for specifying whether a substance is a Base, Neutral, or an Acid along the pH scale, by measuring the concentration of H3O+ ions in a substance. (N.a, 2016) The pH scale is a scale that determines whether a substance is an Acid product, or a Basic product. The H in pH stands for Hydrogen, however, the p is often debated, therefore is thought of as the power of the hydrogen. (Morrissey, 2016) The pH scales ranges from ranking between 0 (Being more ... Dantes Inferno Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli demonstrated that the different critical exegetical positions, regarding the Divine Comedy (whose intent appears on one side as a disciplinary and moral renewal of the Church, and on the other side as a hidden, heretical reversion) were not free from contemporary pressures. In fact, their own theories are able to offer a valid evidence of the nineteenth century s political and religious debates, and for this reason, I am going to analyse the interpretation of Dante s work by Ugo Foscolo, through both, the Discorso sul testo della Divina Commedia , and two articles that Foscolo published in the Edinburgh Review in 1818; in addition, I am going to analyse the interpretation by Rossetti through his work titled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously, being impossible to summarize the vast, esoteric, exegesis of Dante proposed by them, I am feeling obliged to try to highlight some common key of readings as, for example: 1) the relation between the symbol of the Cross (representing the Roman Church) and the Eagle (representing the Empire), whose doctrines are linked to mankind s need for salvation. These two institutions (Church and Empire), according Dante s thought, had to be both settled at the centre of Rome, as at the time of the Holy Roman Empire. In addition, according to Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, Dante attacked the Church exclusively because he wanted the renewal of the spiritual dimension, where the Church had to abandon its material interests, leaving exclusively to the Empire the task to unify Peoples under a unique government. In this way, both Church and Empire would have been able to help humankind for their spiritual and material ends. 2) Another common key of reading, for Foscolo, Rossetti and Valli, is linked with the symbol of Beatrice, which is seen by the three interpreters, not as a real woman, but as a symbol of the wisdom, present in many ancient traditions. 3) I will try to highlight the fact that the esoteric reading of Dante, is considered by both, Foscolo and Rossetti in key heterodox, neo Pythagorean and Ghibelline, while it is considered by Valli in super catholic key. • 36. The Motivation For Jerry And Christopher At A Ice Cream... During my screenplay workshop, I received a lot of helpful suggestions on my overall motivation of my characters. In my revision process, I tried to focus more on the overall motive for my two main characters. For example, I added the motivation for Jerry and Christopher to open an ice cream parlor. This helped with my revision of plot and main conflict because the two characters did not have enough money for the down payment on the open space. As a result, they decide to rob a bank in order to get the money for the payment. Another thing I tried to work on during my revision was the characterization of my two main characters. The two characters are, indeed, stupid. However, my goal was to make their appearance a little different and they way they spoke different. An example of my use of characterization is when Christopher speaks. For example, Christopher is very goofy like Jerry. However, he has a small sense of responsibility/wisdom. In the car, he is the one to have a notebook with all the information on the vacant space and bank. Moreover, he is the one that starts to become serious when he fights the hostage in the bank. Although both of the characters are stupid, Christopher s character is what keeps the guys going. Without Chris, Jerry would be clueless. We can see Jerry s characterization through his actions. Jerry does not think anything through. For instance, in the bank, he brings in business cards with both their names on them. This is something stupid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is assumed Isaac Newton witnessed an apple fall from a tree thus beginning a thought process only someone with an estimated IQ level of 190 would take the time to think about. He began thinking that the force which caused the apple to be attracted to the Earth couldn t be any different from the force which causes the moon to be attracted to the earth; remaining in orbit. Both objects are being pulled towards the earth, however the moon, unlike the apple isn t crashing into our home planet. The moon is moving sideways so quickly that it s missing our planet completely which is what is keeping it in orbit. Next time I get pulled over, I m going to have to tell the police officer, that if the moon speeds to avoiding crashing into something on earth, so am I. Newton realized that however this gravitational force worked, any other object with mass would probably behave the exact same way, whether it be another planet, the sun, or you falling into bed after a long day. Newton s Law of Gravitation directly states any two bodies attract each other with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. Wow, that s a mouthful. Leave it to the professionals. All we need to know is what goes up must come down, and yes that includes that missing balloon from your fifth birthday. The arrows that will be used are aluminum, carbon, and wood. The bow will be at 45 pounds. The shot will be at 20 yards. The arrows are just as good all together they will break. I was lucky enough to be raised by a family of hunters, being brought into the sport by my grandpa, dad, and uncle. Each and every year we take part in hunting white tailed deer and turkey. When we re together, hearing stories of past hunts is routine. Looking at the shoulder mount of a buck or the spread fan and beard on the wall never fails to stir something up. For example, a deer will eat mostly high quality forbs, legumes, and browse plants during the spring. As summer progresses, these higher quality plants become less available and deer shift their diet more towards moderate quality browse such as shrubs and vines. During the fall, a deer s diet may shift to acorns when they are available, and then shift again to browse and even some grasses during the winter. (www.mdwfp). • 41. The Three Important Aspects Of Elite Decision-Making There are many different aspects of elite decisions that need to be considered by actors. When looking at how elites make decisions, there is one theory that uses three important aspects of the decision making process. Prospect theory looks at the domain that the actor is in during the decision making process and that can determine whether or not they are likely to make risky conclusions along with comparing utility and risk propensity to make informed resolutions. Prospect theory best explains elite decision making and can be explained using Truman s choice to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The combination of utility maximization, framing and risk propensity creates a parsimonious theory that covers all major aspects of elite decision making. History of the Bomb The Manhattan Project began in 1941 when President Franklin Roosevelt was convinced by Albert Einstein to start the project. When Roosevelt died on April 12th, the bomb had not been tested and effects of the bomb were widely contested between scientists. Harry Truman, who was known for his common sense mentality and quick decision making, became president following Roosevelt s death. Julius Caesar Ethos Pathos Logos Essay Ethos, Pathos, Logos Some of the most famous writers from William Shakespeare to John Green have used three different persuasive techniques for several years. Have you ever heard of ethos, pathos, and logos? In the famous tragedy of Julius Caesar the author William Shakespeare uses ethos, pathos, and logos for persuading something or someone. In Julius Caesar Shakespeare uses these traits in Brutus s and Antony s funeral speeches to persuade the citizens of Rome to hear them out. In the tragedy Caesar was the emperor of Rome until his own senators killed him. The senators claimed they had to kill him because he was getting to ambitious and it was getting worse. They had to save the citizens before they start to get hurt by Caesar s actions. The most ethos, pathos, and logos takes place at the funeral when Brutus and Antony talk about why Caesar had to die. As technology increases in a rapid pace, so does the number of computer users. With this increase of users, the number of targets that presents itself for exploitation surges. Although, the types of targets and attacks change, classifications of attacks remain the same; exploiting user errors, hardware resources malfunction, and software weaknesses/glitches. • 47. Short Story A Story It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer three teenage girls went missing in the quiet town of Maysville. This was the uttermost significant news the town ever received since a small scale fire in 1978. This news had the whole town wondering who would make a decision like this. There were no unusual suspects that would do such an occurrence like this. The parents had every police officer and sheriff looking for their children. The girls who went missing were not out of the ordinary children. They were all sophisticated and mature young ladies (in public). They never provoked anyone or caused any drama with anyone. They were friends with everyone and were very well known for their friendly deeds. This is why the whole town was so shaken when they went missing, but little did they know about their private lives. The first girl, Brooke Saldivar, was a girl you would think who would never do anything terrible. Brooke was from one of the wealthier families in town, so she had a reputation to keep up. She kept her private life so private, none of her family suspected she was doing anything villainous. She was a very devious and manipulative person. She had no serious family problems, but she did have telling the truth problems. The second girl, Kya Bryce, was an only child of a wealthy family, but she had several family problems behind closed doors. Her family was a picture perfect family, but her parents were never genuinely involved in their daughter s life. Kya was basically allowed to do anything she wanted, as long as she wasn t getting pregnant. Her parents would buy her whatever she wanted just to make her be quiet. Although she had all these problems, she was still one of the more respectable people in town. The third girl, Tanya Rhoney, was another girl from one of the wealthiest families in town, except hers was the wealthiest, so she has even more of an obligation to keep their family reputation, an excellent reputation. She had a plethora of social pressure on her, so she turned to drinking and drugs. She would never do anything deleterious around her town and she would never party with anyone outside of their group. Her parents were concerned about her, but they would never do anything ...
