Oedipus The King Pride Essay
Man s Greatest Enemies Although Oedipus is an ideal leader who once saved the city of Thebes
from the monstrous Sphinx, his fatal flaws of anger and pride ultimately lead to his tragic
downfall. Oedipus s harsh temper leads him to make rash decisions and often causes him to show
disrespect to people. For example, Oedipusdisplays his quick temper when the blind prophet,
Tiresias, accuses him of murdering Laius, the former king of Thebes. Although Tiresias is
physically blind, he sees the truth, while Oedipus sees but is blind to the truth. Oedipus becomes
furious with the old man and begins to yell at him for this ghastly accusation. You miserable old
man! You d drive a stone to fury, Oedipus screams violently. He even goes as far as to describe
Tiresias as a night hatched thing. Oedipus truly is an ideal leader; however, this flaw aids in his...

His more significant flaw, his pride, fuels his quick temper which leads to a greater dilemma for
the king. For instance, in the fourth episode as the shepherd from Corinth arrives, Oedipus shows
his pride when he takes advantage of the old man. Look, Elders, if I may play the prophet too, I d
say although I ve never met the man there s the herdsmen we ve been searching for, Oedipus
declares pompously. Seconds before the shepherd enters, Oedipus compares himself to a prophet
when he tells the elders his opinions about the man approaching. When the old man refuses to tell
Oedipus the truth, Oedipus threatens to hurt and even to kill the poor man, demonstrating Oedipus
s hubris fueling his temper. Perhaps the most significant example of his vanity occurs when the
messenger from Corinth delivers the news to Jocasta and Oedipus revealing the death of Oedipus s
father. Instead of mourning his father s death, Oedipus celebrates thinking that he broke the curse
and outwitted the gods since his

Emancipation Proclamation Dbq Essay
On the 1st of January 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the emancipation Proclamation. It declared
that in certain named rebellious areas and states slaves were forever free The purpose of the
proclamation was on its face military necessity. It authorised the freed slaves to enlist in the military
in attempt to bolster the unions army and navy. It was a significant political and military turning
point in the civil war, and ultimately the abolition movement. In source A, Douglas T Miller
describes the Emancipation Proclamationas ineffective in the liberation of slaves within America,
stating it actually free few people . He concedes however that it changed the purpose and
perception of the war, to being the end of slavery. Whilst Millers argument... Show more content on

The Emancipation proclamation acted as the turning point for the civil rights, anti slavery
movement within America, by liberating any slave within the confederate or rebelling states and
paving the way for future civil right policies. The Emancipation proclamation, declared under
American law that slaves, in rebelling states, were freemen. As seen in source A, although the
slaves were liberated, the effect of this was limited by the lack of enforcement in this policy, with
slaves unable to immediately liberate themselves. As confederate states were in rebellion, it proved
unlikely for them to follow the rules of the federal government, rather it required union forces for
liberation. It s because of this that some historians argue against the effect of the emancipation
proclamation. This meant for the elongated and inefficient process of emancipation. Nonetheless,
when it took effect it, it legally freed approximately 3.1 million southern slaves , henceforth
proving its effect. Secondly the Emancipation acted as an irreversible step in the emancipation
process and the liberation of all slavery. It paved the way for future, progressive, policy to be
established in order to further the civil rights movement . The effect of the Proclamation was fully
solidified through

Counseling Psychology
Counseling psychology is one of the many subfields of psychology, but it is the most thought of
when one thinks of a psychologist. This special field helps clients to explore the positive side of
themselves and their lives and understand the negatives. Counseling psychologists focus their work
on the overall wellbeing of their clients. This subfield also has many benefits to society. Counseling
Psychologyhelps people to improve their life, and while they do not solely focus on mental
disorders, they can focus on physical, emotional, and mental needs. An average individual who is
experiencing troubles in his life may seek out guidance from a counselor.
While counseling psychologists focus work on the general mental health on an individual,
environmental psychologists solely focus on how the way people act and react and how that affects
the plants and environment. Environmental psychologists study responses to different

Unit 1 Assignment
Organizational Theory: Cross Cultural Work Environments
I will be researching a theory on the analysis of cross cultural management style and structure. In
researching this theory, it will help managers in a multinational company, or work environment,
interact with employees of a diverse background. In understanding, and getting a better idea of how
cultures interact in workplace environments, the manager can be more productive and avoid
various types of confrontations that may ultimately hurt productivity.
Analyzing the management styles and cultures of the world will enable managers to understand the
ideas of different cultures. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The economic development approach to comparative management research is one of the early
methods used for cross cultural management study. It is found that managerial input plays an
important role in achieving economic development, this approach focuses on the basic trends of
managerial development, rather than the analysis of organizational practices. (Negandhi, 1983)
The role of culture is said to be the most accurate approach to exploring and comparing management
and organizational styles. One of the most basic issues in cross cultural management research is to
determine what extent culture impacts an individual s behavior within the workplace. Various
cultures emphasize dimensions differently, and these are demonstrated in contrastive managerial
behaviors. Identifying the four aspects of culture that have specific implications for the workplace
is a very important task, and these implications include power distance, uncertainty avoidance,
individualism, and masculinity. An example of each are as follows, power distance, leadership
can be looked at as informal and loose, this is due to the fact that employees do not see their
superiors as that far ahead of them on the social scale. Uncertainty avoidance measures the extent to
which people in a organization tend to feel threatened by uncertain, ambiguous, risky, or

A Comparative Study of the National Curriculum for...
Physical education has yet to become an established and important feature in Australian and English
school programs. At one level physical education has enjoyed considerable political support,
acquired support from athletes and secured a place on Australia and England s national curriculum.
However on another level physical educationhas been the subject of crisis meetings in Australia, on
the verge of being wiped out in later secondary schooleducation in England and had numerous
reviews. So why is physical educationimportant? The major factor being the increasing rise in
obesity, but also children appear to have less knowledge of physical skill, lack fitness and are very

Time Allocation in Australia
Physical Education (PE) has been compulsory in the Australian national curriculum since 1946.
Its purpose and name has changed on several occasions, starting off as PE, then changing to
Sport Education, to Health, and now Health and Physical Education (HPE). Australia s
curriculum is organized into states like the American curriculum and each state is responsible
for its policy and operation of PE. However the Australian government have stated that children
from ages 5 18 while at school must undertake some compulsory PE. It is considered that
children should undertake overall 200 minutes of physical education, 100 minutes of active
sport and 100 minutes of PE in secondary school. However this has seen not to be the case as the
ACHPER Fitness survey of 1987 found that in the schools surveyed an average of 116 minutes a
week was being allocated to PE. Researchers believe a minimum of 3 lessons of skill learning
each 45 minutes long and 3 fitness sessions a week each 30 minutes should be allocated to HPE,
and this being the absolute minimum (htpp://web.ceo.adl.catholic.ed.au cited 10/01/2005).

The Perfect Setting For A Ghost Story
A warm, foggy December morning along the Florida coast is the perfect setting for a ghost
story. I never intended to have these particular feelings, and emotions don t come easily for me,
but add this gloomy weather to the after holiday hangover, the dread of a looming workday, the
perfect song on the radio, and the haunts start to flow like tears. Or maybe they were tears. This is
unfamiliar territory for a girl like me, but one thing I know for sure is the ghosts were real. They
were right there beside me, in my head, through my windshield, and tagging along behind. They are
always there.
Ghosts can come in a lot of forms. There are the loved ones lost, there are the spooky haunts and
ghost stories, but the worst kind of ghost is the memory of pur own actions. A ghost we create
freely and then have to live with indefinitely. We all have regrets, but a ghost takes regret to
another level. A ghost is a recurring emotion, a feeling imprinted upon us and others that cannot
be forgotten nor rectified. In time all things can be forgiven; the majority of my ghosts have
been forgiven, but they still reside inside of me. Forgiveness does not allay the haunt. I know
what I said. I know what I did. I know where I ve been. I know the power I have over others, and
I know I haven t always wielded it responsibly. I know how to inflict pain. When something hurts
me, I know how to hurt it 10 fold in return via my words, action, or violence, but the words are what
haunt me the most. The

Aristotle s Use Of Ethos Pathos Logos
Throughout my studies at Seton Hall, particularly in Journey of Transformation and Christianity
Culture and Dialogue we covered the works of Aristotle. It is interesting to learn how the Greeks
were among the first to use persuasion. Aristotle defined rhetoric as the faculty of observing in any
given case, the available means of persuasion (17). Aristotlebelieved that persuasion consist of
artistic and inartistic proofs. When giving a persuasive speech we are able to control certain
aspects of it such as the delivery, evidence and word usage which are the artistic proofs. The
persuader has the ability to get creative in order to engage the audience and get his message
across. However, the speaker is also subject to certain constraints such as the occasion or the time
that has been allocated to the speaker... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then we have Pathos which uses an emotional appeal in order to get an emotional response.
Recently, Texas suffered a suffered a severe catastrophe because of Hurricane Harvey. This led
to many homes, buildings and families torn apart. Recent Commercial Ads are depicting these
images in order for the public to feel sorrow and donate funds for the cause. Many individuals do
not want to live with the guilt of not helping out and so they decide to donate for a good cause,
thus eliminating that regret. Finally, we have this idea of logos which is the idea of using
logical or rational appeals (17). Lagos uses things such as polls, facts or statistics to appeal to
the audience. A recent example of Lagos would be the campaign promises that President Donald
Trump made to the American people. One of them was the he promised a 4% GDP growth
during his tenure. For investors or the ordinary person, this creates speculation that the future of
the economy will be bright. When I am preparing a persuasive speech, whether it be in the
classroom or in the real world, it is imperative for me to keep in mind ethos, pathos and logos in the
back of mind in order to achieve

Free Will in East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Timshel; meaning thou mayest , holds a significant role in East of Eden. It shows that anyone can
desire to surmount vile in their hearts and create morality within them self. In the novel, Steinbeck
portrays the significance of timshel through the introduction of free will, the internal conflict of
Caleb, and the blessing of Adam.
Steinbeck portrays the significance of timshel through the introduction of free will, which plays an
important role in the theme of Cain and Abel and provides the interpretation of Steinbeck. Timshel

When Cyrus gave his fortune to his sons, which led to Charles giving his fortune to Cathy and
Adam, and then Cathy chose to give her money to Aaron. Cal escaped living off the money of
evil; he is the one that got away because of timshel. The fortune that the Trask family has
inherited is symbolic for the sins running through the family and because cal escaped the
earnings from evil, he escaped the lifelong dependency on evil for his life, he could now choose
to be good. Free will helps cal realize that he doesn t have to be bad and helps him choose the right
path, this is important not only for the realization but also something that he craves, a blessing.
Steinbeck portrays the significance of timshel through the blessing of Adam and the impact after
that. After Adam encounters a stroke from finding out that Aaron died in the war, Caleb
confronts him with the truth of how he is the culprit of Aaron s death. Adam then speaks his last
word saying timshel to Caleb as a blessing for him. The blessing of timshel offers Cal
forgiveness and the possibility of overcoming the sins of the fathers (Schultz). This shows that the
lifelong desire of a blessing from his father that Cal dreamed of is quenched by the blessing of
timshel. When Adam uttered his last word, it had a great impact on not only Cal s life, but the
continuation of the Trask family. When Lee says I don t

Multi Echelon Inventory Control With Integrated Shipment...
In today s market, every company is looking for ways to cut cost and improve upon the movement
of goods from origin to final destination. Companies can achieve this with the intermodal
transportation design. Intermodal transportation eliminates the need for the company s movement
experts to locate multiple carriers in order to move their goods from warehouses to stores or even
home deliveries. By eliminating the multiple transactions with different transportation modes, the
companies can quickly cut costs. Numerous companies and retailers are now asking to have
research completed for their stores in order to see if the benefits of intermodal transportation were
truly there. More often than not, the use of intermodal transportation has been a huge success and
companies have transferred to using these methods. When it comes to needs of transportation, the
companies need first look at their inventorymanagement and see what the best fit for their
transportation needs is. This paper is a review of Multi echelon Inventory Control with Integrated
Shipment Decisions by Olof Stenius. In a three part study conducted at the division of Production
Management in the Department of Industrial Management and Logistics, at Lund University, the
researchers put together three scenarios on how inventory management helped guide decision
making on the use of intermodal transportation versus single mode transportation. The studies,

Consumer Behavior Handbook
Consumer Behavior Booking.com Understanding and acting upon consumer behavior is at the core
of becoming a successful retailer. Today s business environment is packed with competing firms, all
seeking to convenience customers to choose them over their competitors. Many industries, such as
the soda, cell phone, and washing detergent industry are dominated by a just a few or a sole firm.
Therefore, more than ever it is difficult to intervene in the habitual consumption of most consumers.
A consumer s buying process is what must be closely analyzed by any existing or new firm that is
trying to become competitive in today s business environment. A customer will have both utilitarian
and hedonic needs. Often companies will attempt to merge these two types of needs to create an all
encompassing experience. For example, the Wegmans store experience doesn t only satisfy the
utilitarian need of purchasing groceries, it also provides stimulation (an aspect of satisfying
hedonic needs) through visuals and well organized displays. Paying attention to such details and so
creating a multi dimensional experience creates a competitive advantage. Perhaps the most radical
change in consumer behavior happened when the new era of internet began and the way customer s
search for information and evaluate alternatives changed almost instantly. Today customers face the
challenge of being overwhelmed by information rather than not being able to access it. The internet
has also revolutionized

The Global Bearing Market For Automotive Bearings
1.Introduction
In 2014, the global bearing market had a value of 75.91 billion dollars with a Compound Annual
Grade Rate (CAGR) of 7.7% from the year of 2014 to 2020. The bearing market is mainly driven
by automotive industry, meaning that if there is an increase of demand of vehicles, it will lead to
an increase of bearings and steel (material used to manufacture the bearings) (PR Newswire, 2014).
In March 2014, the European Commission found irregularities in the market for automotive
bearings. These irregularities consisted of six companies that operated as a cartel for seven years
(April 2004 July 2011) in the European Economic Area. Therefore, the European Commission
penalized the participant companies by imposing fines of € 953,306,000 in total and also
provided an opportunity for reduction when the involved companies agreed to clear up the case
with the Commission. The involved companies were: the Europeans SKF and Schaeffler and the
Japanese JTEKT, NSK, NFC, and NTN (European Commission, 2014).
This paper presents a description of market structure in which the bearing companies operate in
Europe, possible environment that led to collusive behavior, incentives for companies that led them
to participate in cartel and resulting welfare from it. Moreover, the paper also presents an
assessment of Government intervention with costs and benefits analysis and its effects to all
stakeholders. Through this assessment, an argument is carried out on the appropriateness of

The Debate On The Issue Of Poverty
JUDGEMENT FRAMEWORK
Poverty is a complex issue that has always been around, but has been a growing concern over
time. Holding a debate on the issue of poverty, is one that can easily go awry due to it s
complexity and emotional aspects. In order to evaluate the debate, both teams need to fully
understand the proposal and clearly articulate their stance.
The debate teams need to be able to clearly explain their position, refute the opponent s argument,
provide solutions, provide a stimulating counter examination, and effectively answer questions
from the judges. Other logistical aspects of the debate that will be judged on is the ability to
efficiently use time and allocate it between team members, as well as refraining from interrupting
other debates and keeping an appropriate volume and demeanor.
There are various general questions that will be utilized in my evaluation of the debate. Did the
teams address what poverty is, how people become poor and remain poor, explain why it s the
individual or society s fault, why we haven t been able to dramatically keep poverty low, why
current efforts are not working, and what new solutions should be utilized?
I expect both teams to utilize support for their arguments from outside sources and from the
readings. My general expectations for the arguments by both teams is to not only clearly explain
their proposed arguments, but to also

William Shakespeare s The Globe Theatre
During the Elizabethan Era, The Globe Theatre was a very influential upcoming piece of
architecture that even Shakespeare first had his plays performed in. Although it was very difficult
to keep the building standing for long, it inspired many new theatre styles and still lives on today in
England. The Globe Theatrewas extremely influential during the Elizabethan Era because of its
long history, unique architecture, and new ways of acting to go along with the new theatre style.
Although the majority of Shakespeare s plays were first produced in the original Globe Theatre,
his plays used to be performed in other forms of amphitheaters, such as halls, inns or open arenas
(Cummings). Shakespeare belonged to a company called Chamberlain s Men. They acted and
before The Globe Theatre even existed, they would perform in The Theatre, originally built and
owned by James Burbage (Cummings). The Burbage family consisted of James, the father and
owner of The Theatre, and Cuthbert Burbage, who was not actor but admired theatre (Cummings).
The other son of James Burbage was Robert Burbage, an actor in the Chamberlain s Men acting
company and star of most Shakespearian plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet
(Cummings). In 1597, the land that The Theatre was built on had a lease that was almost up, and
Giles Allen, the owner of the land, wished to tear the building down (Pressley). Because of this
dispute, The Globe Theatre came into existence. While working very fast,

How Energy Can Be Conserved, The Fiscal Value Of...
Introduction In the world that we live in today, energy is in high demand. Businesses and family
budgets require energy efficiency in order to get their money s worth. Technology is being
constantly developed to help make our energy sources more efficient. More efficient lighting, like
LED light bulbs are being produced to conserve energy, along with more efficient vehicles. Some
of these technologies are more readily implemented, and affordable than others, but efforts are still
being made to make the world a more energy efficient place. In addition to energy efficiency saving
money for businesses and households, it also helps reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that

Sources of greenhouse gases include: 1) Domestic gas used in homes for heating water, the stove,
and the house in general. This tends to be the most noteworthy source of emissions by
individuals.Ві 2) Electricity used for running refrigerators, dryers, and televisions, and charging
devices uses approximately 4,000 units of electricity per annually.Ві 3) Traveling by air is also a
part of the average person s carbon footprint; although the tendency tends to be for a person to
either rarely fly, or fly often (as in about twenty flights yearly).Ві 4) Electronics like phones, iPods,
and laptops use up energy, and have to be charged often.Ві 5) The food that we eat is also a
component of our carbon footprint. The fertilizers used to grow, and produce the food that we buy
is the main source of greenhouse gases in the food process; although packaging, and transporting
food is also a small part of it.Ві 6) The production of the clothes that we wear has an impact.
Manmade materials give off less emissions opposed to products like cotton and wool.Ві 7) Paper
uses up a lot of energy when it is produced. Recycling helps reduce the amount of energy expended
in paper production.Ві 8) Water and sewage takes up energy because of the power it takes to pump

This keeps the costs of enlargement relatively cheap for the EU in terms of finances but the
economic weaknesss of the acceding members may be wrongly assesed and insufficiently

If we look at the economic structures of the new member states we find that they contribute a
large but rather inefficient agricutural sector: In total, enlargement to the CEECs will more than
double the size of the EU s agricultural labour force, increase its agricutural area by about a half,

that facing cohesion funding and so is the solution. Common Agricultural Policy(CAP) support
was to be gradually phased in up to 2013. The change in the agricultural sector induced by the
new member states is one of the reasons why there have been debates on agricultural reform and it
will be a key issue in the enlarged EU.

should be interesting by giving it a call to action. As you can see a hamburger is easy to make

Although, most of the time hamburgers are dry and taste like cardboard. They are the ones that

Kaheschi Caverns-Personal Narrative
I have decided to write an account of my experience. I can no longer trust other humans and have

The Caverns were but a short walk away, reached via a path that lead out into the forest from

The book, The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, shows how Screwtape uses subtlety and
psychology when he is tempting human beings into sin. He plays with the patient s imagination,
emotions, will, and intellect. Also, he shows great shrewdness when encouraging sin that does not
appear to be sin. Screwtape shows effective psychologyin encouraging the patient to displace
intellect and will in prayer with imagination and emotion, and he shows subtlety in encouraging

In addition, when the patient says, for example, All I want is a cup of tea... and the teeniest bit of
really crispy toast, the sin of greed is successfully and unnoticeably committed, because it is used to
obtain exactly what one wants. Also, the All I want way of acting can become a hassle to others as
it asks of them to go out of their way in order to make something perfect. Moreover, it could
jeopardize friendships because perfection can never be attained, and the dissatisfaction resulting
from this causes ill temper towards others. Furthermore, while gluttony of delicacy may avoid the
sin of gluttony of excess, it produces querulousness, impatience, uncharitableness, and self concern,
counteracting the attempt to avoid sin in the first place. Screwtape shows subtlety in encouraging
gluttony of delicacy. Smartly using the virtue of humility as a means of sin, Screwtape shows his
subtlety when explaining how easily humility can be turned into pride. Once the patient is sincerely
acting humble, one has to just enlighten him of his humility, and the prideful thought that he

The Aztec Of Aztecs And Spanish Conquistadors
The events that occurred between the Aztecs and Spanish Conquistadors have many sides and
opportunities for debate. One of the most debated topics being; Who was more savage and who was
more Civil? Both the Aztecs and Spanish had powerful and thriving empires. These empires
displayed their dominance through their advanced technology and flourishing military. Though it
may seem that the Spanish were more advanced than the Aztecs, the Aztecs and Spanish were
actually quite close to being equal in technological advancements.
The Aztec empire has been said to be the greatest engineers in the Americas and rival the Roman
Empire in technology. The Aztec Empire had luxurious pyramids, temples and a gleaming capital
city called Tenochtitlan, that in its golden years, was said to house over 200,000 250,000 Aztecs.
Tenochtitlan was larger than Rome, London and Madrid put together. On top of it s large
population, the people and streets were very pristine. The Tenochtitlan citizens took daily baths to
ensure they were fully clean. Infact, Tenochtitlan had public baths and lavatories for the citizens.
Tenochtitlan was built on a lake island called Aztlan and over the lake, the Aztecs built fertile,
floating farms called Chinampas .The people who inhabited the Aztlan Island were originally called
the Mexica people. The name Aztec is derived from the name of the Island. However primitive this
empire may seem, the Emperors were quite affluent. They had lavish possessions

Middle Eastern Restaurants Are Usually Small Businesses,
Middle Eastern restaurants are usually small businesses, having a small business in America
equals good profit. There are 28 million small businesses in America that make up 54% of all
U.S. sales; 55% of all jobs and 66% of all net new jobs since the 1970s (U.S Small Business
Administration). Small businesses are growing rapidly. While corporate America has been
downsizing , the rate of small business start ups has grown, and the rate for small business failures
has declined (U.S Small Business Administration).

Restaurant owners and managers are responsible for everything from employee safety to liquor
liability. Insurance, licenses and safety procedures are just a few areas that restaurant owners
should be familiar with (Mealey, 2016).
A restaurant s location is as crucial to its success as great food and service. It will influence many
parts of your restaurant, including the menu (Mealey, 2016). After choosing a good and obvious
location, a restaurant owner should be careful when designing the menu and its content; it is tricky.
Designing the menu takes much planning and the designer should be aware of the importance of
the menu. The menu is one of the most important elements in a restaurant.
Quality is also very important in the restaurant/food industry. Before serving anything, a business
owner should make sure that it meets the quality requirements that are stated from the Department
of Public Health. In California, the Department of Public Health has specific food programs for
each kind of food. Also, it has numerous laws and codes such as the Sherman Food, Drug, and
Cosmetic Law, Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, Risk Based Preventive
Controls for Human Food and more. (CDPH).

Bailiff Research Paper
A Bailiff or a court official, would never have a boring day on the job. They do require a decent
education to better their chances of finding a job. The education requirements vary depending
on employer, jurisdiction and state. Most of the training is on the job and do not absolutely
require a degree. To become a bailiff you need to be aware of local laws, have self defence, first
aid certification, and know how to handle weapons (Career Cruising, 2018). However, having
some kind of criminal justice or law enforcement background education will significantly help.
Michigan s top law enforcement and criminal justice schools include Lake Superior State
University where you can obtain an associate s and a bachelor s degree and at Northern Michigan

the part of the country they work in. In the local courts they can make about $38,000 a year and

may receive $33,200 annually which is $15.96 an hour. As an experienced bailiff they can make
$41,210 or $19.81 per hour in Michigan (Career Cruising, 2018). A court official has many duties
that they are responsible to carry out. A typical bailiff works around a 40 hour week including
some evenings and weekends, they also must be dressed in uniform (Career Cruising, 2018). They
must wear uniforms so that they can be identified by the public and the court. Tasks they must

The Desperation On Johnny s Face
Stopping at the frightened and confused look John was giving him, Roy trailed off, I m sorry.
Too much, Johnny tried explaining.
I was talking too fast? And I was talking about too many subjects? Roy asked slowly.
Nodding, Johnny yawned and gasped.
Shhh, it s okay, Roy soothed, rubbing his arm. You have a lot of wounds on different parts of your
body.
Confused about why he had them, but unable to figure out how to ask, John just looked towards
Roy.
Not able to know words, tell me, clear up why, Johnny pleaded in his head, frustrated to feel as
though his mind was trying to think while being encased in mud.
Do you want to know what happened? Why you are hurting now? asked Roy, reading the
desperation on Johnny s face.
Nodding, John groaned as it set off a round of nauseous and increased the thumping inside his head.
Don t worry, you can t get sick, Roy assured him. The doctors have a tube going in your nose that
makes sure that it doesn t happen. I know it s not fun and itches, but it s better than getting sick.
Sighing, John leaned back on the bed and waited for Roy to begin explaining. Starting with the
shortened version of being caught in a fire that caused him to be thrown a bit, Roy then moved on
to let John know the various injuries that were caused by that. Once he went through that, Roy
pointed out each tube and what it was for, hoping that at some level Johnny was understanding it.
Considering how he looked however, Roy figured that most of the

Terrorism And The Constitution Act
Terrorism and the Constitution is organized in four parts. The first provides an historical
account of federal investigations of First Amendment activities, focusing on the FBI s
investigative activities prior to 9/11. The authors make a persuasive case that the FBI s
investigative power has frequently been used to harass those involved in controversial political
activities, and to disrupt controversial social movements, even where no evidence of illegal
activity has been noted. To do this, the authors begin the book with five stories, examples of the
recurring nature of the government s misguided response to ideological threats. The stories begin
in the years of the Cold War and end in an account of law enforcement since 2001. In Part Three,
Cole and Dempsey focus on the Anti Terrorism Act of 1996, a forerunner to the Patriot Act that
helped to establish the legal framework for today s domestic war on terror. The act allows the
State Department to designate Foreign Terrorist Organizations in a process that is highly
politicized and lacking sufficient objective criteria. It also makes it possible for government
prosecutors to bring cases against individuals without proof that they have engaged in terrorism,
aided or abetted terrorists, or planned to commit terrorism. Under the 1996 act, the government may
freeze the assets of designated terrorist groups and use secret witnesses against those suspected of
having links to terrorists. Because many of the 9/11 terrorists

I Like Older Cars Essay
I like older cars. Cars are one of the coolest things that were every made in my opinion. I think
that cars that are older than 1990 are better than the cars that are 1991 and newer because they are
easier to work on, they also look better, and sound better but the newer cars get better gas millage,
and are safer.
I have worked on my different new and old cars, but I think that the older cars are easier to work
on. They are easier to because they don t have all the technology that the newer cars have. For
example my dad s 1984 Chevy Truck doesn t have all the things that a 2018 truck has on it. For
example, newer car is electronica and my dad s truck has cables that make the carburetor work.
There are also a lot different things that make it easier to work on older cars over newer cars. For
example, you don t have a many wires getting in the way with the older cars where the new cars
have a wire or more going to almost everything know matter was it is. Even the tires are easier to

Terrorism And Islamic Terrorism
September 11th is a day that nobody will ever forget, it was such a terrible tragedy and we lost
many people because of it. This attack was made out of hatred and tremendously impacted the
government and citizens of the United States. This attack was rooted in a hatred that has existed
for thousands of years between Jews in Israel and its Islamic neighbors. Because of the United
States support for Israel and the Gulf Wars where the United States stopped Iraqi aggression, the
United States has become a target of Islamic terrorism. It was such a serious and harmful
incident and it forever changed American Society and by influencing the country to make new
laws and as a result, its citizens have become more aware of their surroundings. Islamic
Extremism Islamic extremism has been around for a while now and it s mainly just driven by
an interpretation of Islam that believes in Islamic law, it s a religious political system
(Understanding Islamist Extremism, n/d). For starters, Islam is a religion and it began in Arabia,
which is now commonly known as Saudi Arabia and is where Muhammad was born and where
eventually he died (Place of origin Islam, n/d). Extremism means extreme political or religious
views. An example of Violent Islamic extremism is, with the tragic Paris attack on November 15th,
2015 (Norton, 2015). There was 130 innocent people who were killed and 7 perpetrators, and that

U.s. Involvement During Wwii
U.S Involvement in WWII Throughout American history the U.S has tried to stay out of national
disputes but sometimes it is necessary for them to take action. In all the wars ever fought in the
world only two have been fought on U.S soil and one of the wars was between our own
country(Civil War).
The U.S is mainly a neutral country but if something happens they are not afraid to fight back.
After the Japanese bombings on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7,1941 the U.S began to
take part in the war. WW11 was the deadliest war in the history of the world and it was also the
most significant. 12 countries participated in WW11 including America. Because of the amount
of casualties and history the war has it is easy to say that is was the most important war the U.S
has ever been involved in. America s involvement is also one of the reason the war was ended
because we had so much power. Things could have been much different in this world if America
did not partake in the war. WW11 officially began the year of 1939. The war began with the
immediate reign of Adolf Hitler who was the dictator of Germany. Hitler had the idea to eliminate
almost anyone that was different or had different beliefs. He started to kill
Jews,Homosexuals,Gypsies , Jehovah s Witnesses, and even handicapped people. While doing this
he also had the a plan to take control of all Europe.

Reasons For Preventing Delays For Closing Delays
You accepted the offer and the buyer have agreed with the closing date, hopefully with any
closing delays. The final goal for both the seller and the buyer is have all parties involve dint he
process to prevent any closing delays. The delays aren t always caused by the seller or the buyer.
In some cases the delays are due to the lender or financial instructions and how long they take to
process the loanand close.
In California the escrow instructions have different procedures, for instant southern California signs
on the front end, while northern California signs on the back end. Before anything happens all of
the terms of the purchase agreement need to be met, the seller deposits the deed and the buyer
deposits the funds.
Many of the causes for closing delays can be prevented and correctly quickly with planning and
communications. Some common errors causing closing delays include documentation, incorrect
amounts stated on the required funding, or findings from the buyers final walk through of the home
before closing.
7 Ways To Avoid Closing Delays On Your Home Sale

in the loop at all time. Your lender is processing one of the largest transactions of your life, and

Mark Zuckerberg Lawsuit
Did you know that Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, a social network
designed to help people connect worldwide, faced a big lawsuit due to the creation of Facebook?
While a lot of you may have seen The Social Network, a movie made in 2010 showcasing the
creation and lawsuit Facebook went through, there is much more to Facebook than you may
think. Dropping out of college to pursue a company that isn t guaranteed to help you build a
career is quite the risk, but in rare cases, it can pay off, just as Facebook did for Zuckerberg. With
each growing company, risks must be taken in order to advance, this is exactly what Zuckerberg
does, and he does it well.
In 2004 Mark Zuckerberg decided to build a social networking site, one that would connect
Harvard student to each other using their Harvard email. Under the name TheFaceBook,
Zuckerberg achieved this goal and the social media network was founded. Just a week after he
launched the site in 2004, Mark was accused by three Harvard seniors of having stolen the idea
from them (Nicholas Carlson, 2010). The three Harvard students; Tyler Winklevoss, Cameron
Winklevoss, and Divya Narendra later proceeded to accuse Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their
idea. This accusation turned into a full fledged lawsuit, which lead to the biggest obstacle
Zuckerberg had to overcome to make Facebook what it is today.
Zuckerberg took this lawsuit on head first, showing no fear, by that I mean he seems to have
outsmarted the Winklevoss

Marie Curie s Popular Images
Although Marie Curie was not the first woman to excel in science or mathematics, she can be
considered the first major woman scientist to receive full credit for her scientific work.
Considering her Nobel prizes alone, she is ranked at the top of the scientists of the modern period.
Despite this, somehow Marie Curies popular images, as well as those embedded in some of the

Comparing Race And La Raza Cosmica

The Design Of An Architect
There are different ways of invitation to tender. Once the client chooses to take the project in
mind further, either directly approaches the contractor or through an architect. Client directly
approaches the builder for the simple or low value work such as house decoration or house
extension. The builder comes to the premises where the job will carry out, client explains the job
and awaits for the offer. Then builder s estimator measures the work, price it and makes the offer
according to builder s own terms and conditions.
If the work is big and high in value such as building a house or an industrial unit, client approaches
an architect who will design the project, submit the drawings to the builder including specifications
and detailed standard form of contract. Builder s estimator measure the quantities of work based
upon the drawings and then will price it and make an offer. The specifications and details of
standard form of contract selected by the architect. Alternatively client may approach a contractor
for complete design and build and request an offer.
For projects that are more complex for instance measured in terms of value will cover the majority
of construction work client approaches to an architect and gives the project brief then the architect
carries out initial design and produces sketch drawings. Later the design has conceded to the
quantity surveyor who makes the prediction of probable tender value. If the client agrees the value,

The Effects Of Video Games On The Human Mind
In 1976 the arcade game Death Race was released based on the movie Death Race 2000 . The
objective of this game was to use your car in order to run over fleeing goblins. This video game
was so simple and yet brought forth so much controversy that it led to the first study on the
physiological effect of video games on the human mind. Ever since Death Race, video games
have continued to make huge advances in order to create an almost endless amount of
possibilities on what you can or cannot do in a video game. Since the first video game was
introduced, the gaming industry has seen a huge spike in the popularity of video games. Not
only have they become more popular, but they have also become significantly more realistic. So
realistic, that it s now hard to tell the difference between an animation and an actor in a movie. I
ve been playing video games now for as long as I can remember. Since childhood, I ve played
every kind of video game, from the educational and harmless ones to the mature, bloody and
gruesome ones. While I, personally, have never experienced any type of violent thoughts or
behavior due to games, can the same be said about today s youth? With video game popularity
on the rise and violence so pervasive, can violent video games really be held accountable for it
all? The intent of this paper is to first examine the psychological effects of violent video games
and to secondly give reasons as to why they in fact do not desensitize youth and to finally give

The purpose of this lab is to explore the effects of enzyme concentration, substrate concentration,
temperature, and inhibitors on reaction rate, respectively. To test each of these factors, four
activities were completed. The enzyme from Turnip Extract and the substrate Peroxide were tested.
The turnip extract was tested at the following concentrations: .5ml, 1.0ml, and 2.0ml. Peroxide was
tested at the following concentrations: 0.1ml, 0.2ml, and 0.4ml. In order to understand the effect of
temperature on reaction ratethe following temperatures were tested: 4C, 23C, 37C, and 60C. To
achieve the desired temperatures, an ice bath and water baths were utilized. Lastly, the effect of
the inhibitor Hydroxylamine was tested in the following amounts: 0 drops, 1 drop, and 5 drops.
In the experiment, Guaiacol was used to determine the rate of reaction by the absorbance
measured. When Guaiacol is oxidized it has a brownish color, the presence of the brownish color
indicates Peroxide (substrate of peroxidase) has undergone the reaction and has been reduced to
water. By this, the reaction rate can be determined by the color change or absorbance over time.
For each activity, a spectrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance. After that, the data for
each activity was translated to graph where linear regression was used to analyze the effects. The
results of the enzymeconcentrations on reaction rate are the following: low enzyme concentration

Global Financial Crisis And Its Impact On Economic Policy...
Financialisation is the process in which financial institutions/markets increase in size and gain
greater influence over economic policy and outcomes (Palley, 2007).Another link to
financialisation is high degree of leverage. This is because with leverage, you can get a loan for
9/10s of the money, so you only need a small portion, and you are able to make lots of profit.
Leverage is linked to financialisation in a sense that if it works, you get lots of profit with a
working system, however if it doesn t work, then you can lose lots of money, and in high
degrees of leverage, you can be losing lots of money by the investment not working out, and
someone then has to pay off the loaned money. In this essay, I will be analysing whether or not
financialisation was the main cause of the 2008 global financial crisis, or if there were other
factors involved in the great recession. I will be arguing that financialisation was a cause of the
crash, but because it was aided by other factors, it is not the sole reason behind the collapse. The
points that I will be making in my argument will be in relation to the financial crisis in the context
of financialisation, talking about market deregulation and subprime mortgages. The second point
that I will make will be about the greed of the CEOs on Wall Street, and their irresponsibility when
it comes to the money of others. The final point that I will be making will be about the
irresponsibility on behalf of the regulators, and how they

Elimate Athletic Scholarships
Its time for our college athletes to be true students on campus, not athletes on athletic stipends with
sports not education as their top priority and obligation... By eliminating the athletic scholarship, ...
we could de professionalize college athletes, reestablish athletic departments as part of the
educational institution, and be able to use the term student athlete without snickering. (Ralph Nader
in League of Fans Proposes Eliminating Athletic Scholarshipsto Help Restore Integrity on College
Campuses, 2011)
Over the past years the usefulness of athletic scholarships, and its outcomes for both the schools and
athletes has been contested. Opposing parties have debated whether or not banning them will solve
the problems that lay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He proves Acquavivas argument insufficient and points out that athletic scholars are so over
scheduled with practices, training centers, etc, that the colleges aim to focus athletes mostly on the
sport surfaces (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Consequently, many either cannot or will poorly earn a
degree. Former NFL player Dexter Manley is an example. Manley declared that he left Oklahoma
State University illiterate (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Although students have to keep an acceptable
GPA, it still doesn t guarantee that they will actually learn anything or come out of school prepared
to possibly face the job market.
Another argument in favor of the extinction of the athletic scholarships is that athletes don t get
enough money to live decently. The financial aid money covers the tuition, fees, living and book
expenses (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Even so research by the Collegiate Athletes Coalition (CAC),
a non profit group of parents interested in helping athletes study in higher education facilities fully
sponsored, uncovered a gap of at least $2,000 between the expenses the school pays for and the
total of what the student will need over the course of his or her academic life (Johnson Acquaviva,
n.d.). This led some to consider paying athletes. Johnson responded by presenting several options to
improve the athletes lifestyle by giving them more money (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.).

E1 Synthesis Lab Report
An E1 reaction involves a two step mechanism. In this particular reaction, before the first step
can take place, the alcohol group on 2 methyl 2 butanol is protonated by sulfuric acid so that
water is formed as a suitable leaving group. The first step can then take place: the loss of water
as leaving group to form a carbocation intermediate. Then, a beta proton is eliminated resulting in
the formation of a double bond, forming an alkene. In this reaction, a major product (2 methyl 2
butene) and a minor product (2 methyl 1 butene) are formed. Two products were formed because
two different beta protons were available for elimination, resulting in the double bond being put in
two different positions. However, one of the products is favored and considered major because of
Zaitsev s rule that states the more substituted alkene is favored.... Show more content on

The compound being tested is placed as a liquid into the gas chromatogram and it is vaporized.
The mobile phase is a gas, and the vaporized sample is pushed through a coiled column by a
carrier gas, which is chosen so that it is unreactive with the sample. The coiled column is also
coated by a liquid which serves as the stationary phase. The different components will reach the
detector of the chromatograph at different points, depending on their boiling points. Substances
with lower boiling points will vaporize faster, and will therefore reach the detector faster than their
higher boiling point counterparts. The detector sends out an output in the form of a graph which
can be analyzed to tell what compounds are in the sample as well as how much of

The Theme Of Nature In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was a groundbreaking novel into the horrors that humans can achieve.
It helped defined a genre, and gave a new meaning to the gothic novel line of books. Shelley came
up with the idea of Frankenstein during a bet with her fellow poet friends. Whomever could write
the best scary story won their competition, and this was how Frankensteinwas born. Shelley
included many themes in her creation of the story Frankenstein such as Family, Imagination,
Ambition, Education, and Nature.
Mary Shelley imbued all these themes into her story to create a connection from the characters to
her readers, for us to help understand her characters deeply. One feels a sense of connection with
the monster and Victor in this story. Shelley... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The monster is almost a child, in amazement at the wonder of nature. The irony behind his love
of nature is clear because the monster himself is a violation of nature. Victor reversed nature
when he brought back something from the dead. The creature may be living, breathing, and
sentient but he is an abomination of nature. Shelley used her grief of losing her baby, to create
the monster in a way that makes him seem as if he is an infant and he has been rejected as an
infant by society and made out to be an evil monster (Britton, Abstract). The creature himself was
just born a man, he did not experience infanthood, he was just created. He was created and
immediately hated, and he could not understand why because he had the mind of an infant. He was
innocent until he was treated horribly. This is an example of human nature. Human nature is
hating something that is so different than you, just for being different. And human nature is shown
in all its ugliness in this story, for wherever the monster goes, there are people to chase him away
for being scary. This almost parallels the Rime of the Ancient Mariner in a sense. In the Ancient
Mariner, the Mariner harms nature and nature harms him right back. The theme is that you must
respect nature otherwise you will be killed by the one thing you defiled. And this is true of Victor
and his monster. He defiled nature, and the life of what he created, and nature came back to kill his
family and in the end, it killed Victor

The audio is a little bit annoying when its exceedingly loud, so its excellent to maintain it

Dr. Morris The Four Noble Truth
The four Noble Truths were taught in Buddhism as the fundamental insight or enlightenment of the
Buddha (Dr. Morris, lecture notes). The first Noble Truth is Dukkha, which meaning suffering or
frustration. Life inevitably involves suffering, is imperfect and unsatisfactory (Living Religions, p.
110). According to Mary Pat Fisher, happiness is not permanent and we all experience grief,
unfulfilled desires, sickness, old age, physical pain, mental anguish, and death (Living Religions, p.
110). Everyone experiences unfulfilled hopes and painful situations in their lifetimes. Some
including the death of a loved one, divorce, arguments, and more. All of which are not pleasant and
can lead to frustration and pain. The second Noble Truth

Controversy Between Abortion And Childbirth
Furthermore, abortion is a safe procedure and doesn t cause health issues such as cancer or
infertility contrary to popular belief. According to the National Center for Biotechnology
Information (NCBI) article, written by Raymond EG and Grimes DA, titled, The comparative
safety of legal induced abortion and childbirth in the United States, it stated that The mortality rate
of a woman dying from abortionis 0.6 people per 100,000 while the mortality rate of woman dying
from giving birth is 8.8 people per 100,000. This shows that abortion is a safe procedure compared
to childbirth. Even though that s the case, we don t see any controversy around childbirth even
though childbirth is 14 times more likely to result in mortality. The only reason

A Brief Note On Surface Water And Water Pollution
Surface water (rivers, streams, and lakes) are the main sources of domestic, industrial and irrigation
water uses in many areas in the world, and play a very important role in hydrologic and
biogeochemical cycles. As important as these surface waters are, only a minimum number are
maintained and can be found in their natural condition due to intensive human activities such as
urbanization and surface water pollution, making it a great environmental concern worldwide
(Zhao et al., 2011). Every time it rains, rivers and streams and are subject to non point source
pollution. These rivers and streams are highly vulnerable water bodies because of the role they play

By characterizing the spatial and temporal variation in the water quality of rivers and streams,
results from water quality analysis can provide an improved understanding of the environmental
conditions and m help policy makers establish priorities for sustainable water management (Cooper
et al., 2002 and Antonopoulos et al., 2001). Watershed scale analysis of water quality variables can
illustrate the changing influence of various human activities in different sub basins and as one
proceeds from headwaters to downstream. Reports on stormwater quality management program
have shown that Greensboro currently faces water pollution problems in its main rivers and lakes
(Greensboro Water Resources Dept., Report, 2013). Water quality at most of the regularly
monitored stations in major rivers and streams in the county are below the United States
Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) standards suitable for human consumption and aquatic
life sustainability including sites along the Buffalo Creeks and Reedy Fork Creek. The condition of
the water in Greensboro Rivers and streams is related to land use and the quality and quantity of the
rainfall washing off the landscape. In an urban setting like Greensboro, the predominant factors in
determining the water quality characteristics of rivers and streams are the pollutants washing off

Becoming Madame Mao By Anchee Min
Becoming Madame Mao, written by Anchee Min, is the account of Mao Zedong s wife, and her
rise to political power of the Chinese Communist Party along with her husband. Madame Mao,
throughout her life, works hard to earn her status in society and, along with making a name for
herself, gaining rights and respect for all women. Through a series of transition, Madame Mao is
referred to with three different name, Yunhe, Lan Ping, and Jiang Ching, which correspond to her
growing defiance of gender roles in Chinese society. Madame Mao earns her first name, Yunhe,
when she enrolls in a local elementary school. The name Yunhe, which means Crane in the Clouds
is given to her by her grandfather. According to Madame Mao, the crane is a symbol of hope...

This name is given to her by her husband, Mao Zedong. She says, Jiang Ching summarizes a
traditional saying: Green comes out of blue but is richer than blue (158). This name is an
allusion to what will happen later in her life. As Mao and Jiang Ching grow older together, their
relationship deteriorates. The love Mao once had for Jiang Ching is replaced by the love for his
affairs with new virgins every night. Instead of love, what Jiang Ching now is in search for from
her marriage with Mao is power. As Kang Sheng says, Her role is to play Mao s most trusted
comrade It is the only way to empower [her]self (210). Jiang Ching was, at one point, jealous of
Premier Zhou En lai s wife, Deng Yin chao and Wang Guang mei, wife of Vice Chairman Liu, for
they were beautiful, wise and adored by their husbands. As time passes, however, Jiang Ching
gives up the typical role of a Chinese woman in exchange for hopes of becoming a major player in
the Chinese Communist Party. It is soon after that Jiang Ching becomes the command of the

  • 2. Oedipus The King Pride Essay Man s Greatest Enemies Although Oedipus is an ideal leader who once saved the city of Thebes from the monstrous Sphinx, his fatal flaws of anger and pride ultimately lead to his tragic downfall. Oedipus s harsh temper leads him to make rash decisions and often causes him to show disrespect to people. For example, Oedipusdisplays his quick temper when the blind prophet, Tiresias, accuses him of murdering Laius, the former king of Thebes. Although Tiresias is physically blind, he sees the truth, while Oedipus sees but is blind to the truth. Oedipus becomes furious with the old man and begins to yell at him for this ghastly accusation. You miserable old man! You d drive a stone to fury, Oedipus screams violently. He even goes as far as to describe Tiresias as a night hatched thing. Oedipus truly is an ideal leader; however, this flaw aids in his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His more significant flaw, his pride, fuels his quick temper which leads to a greater dilemma for the king. For instance, in the fourth episode as the shepherd from Corinth arrives, Oedipus shows his pride when he takes advantage of the old man. Look, Elders, if I may play the prophet too, I d say although I ve never met the man there s the herdsmen we ve been searching for, Oedipus declares pompously. Seconds before the shepherd enters, Oedipus compares himself to a prophet when he tells the elders his opinions about the man approaching. When the old man refuses to tell Oedipus the truth, Oedipus threatens to hurt and even to kill the poor man, demonstrating Oedipus s hubris fueling his temper. Perhaps the most significant example of his vanity occurs when the messenger from Corinth delivers the news to Jocasta and Oedipus revealing the death of Oedipus s father. Instead of mourning his father s death, Oedipus celebrates thinking that he broke the curse and outwitted the gods since his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Emancipation Proclamation Dbq Essay On the 1st of January 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the emancipation Proclamation. It declared that in certain named rebellious areas and states slaves were forever free The purpose of the proclamation was on its face military necessity. It authorised the freed slaves to enlist in the military in attempt to bolster the unions army and navy. It was a significant political and military turning point in the civil war, and ultimately the abolition movement. In source A, Douglas T Miller describes the Emancipation Proclamationas ineffective in the liberation of slaves within America, stating it actually free few people . He concedes however that it changed the purpose and perception of the war, to being the end of slavery. Whilst Millers argument... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Emancipation proclamation acted as the turning point for the civil rights, anti slavery movement within America, by liberating any slave within the confederate or rebelling states and paving the way for future civil right policies. The Emancipation proclamation, declared under American law that slaves, in rebelling states, were freemen. As seen in source A, although the slaves were liberated, the effect of this was limited by the lack of enforcement in this policy, with slaves unable to immediately liberate themselves. As confederate states were in rebellion, it proved unlikely for them to follow the rules of the federal government, rather it required union forces for liberation. It s because of this that some historians argue against the effect of the emancipation proclamation. This meant for the elongated and inefficient process of emancipation. Nonetheless, when it took effect it, it legally freed approximately 3.1 million southern slaves , henceforth proving its effect. Secondly the Emancipation acted as an irreversible step in the emancipation process and the liberation of all slavery. It paved the way for future, progressive, policy to be established in order to further the civil rights movement . The effect of the Proclamation was fully solidified through ... The economic development approach to comparative management research is one of the early methods used for cross cultural management study. It is found that managerial input plays an important role in achieving economic development, this approach focuses on the basic trends of managerial development, rather than the analysis of organizational practices. (Negandhi, 1983) The role of culture is said to be the most accurate approach to exploring and comparing management and organizational styles. One of the most basic issues in cross cultural management research is to determine what extent culture impacts an individual s behavior within the workplace. Various cultures emphasize dimensions differently, and these are demonstrated in contrastive managerial behaviors. Identifying the four aspects of culture that have specific implications for the workplace is a very important task, and these implications include power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism, and masculinity. An example of each are as follows, power distance, leadership can be looked at as informal and loose, this is due to the fact that employees do not see their superiors as that far ahead of them on the social scale. Uncertainty avoidance measures the extent to which people in a organization tend to feel threatened by uncertain, ambiguous, risky, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At one level physical education has enjoyed considerable political support, acquired support from athletes and secured a place on Australia and England s national curriculum. However on another level physical educationhas been the subject of crisis meetings in Australia, on the verge of being wiped out in later secondary schooleducation in England and had numerous reviews. Time Allocation in Australia Physical Education (PE) has been compulsory in the Australian national curriculum since 1946. Its purpose and name has changed on several occasions, starting off as PE, then changing to Sport Education, to Health, and now Health and Physical Education (HPE). Australia s curriculum is organized into states like the American curriculum and each state is responsible for its policy and operation of PE. However the Australian government have stated that children from ages 5 18 while at school must undertake some compulsory PE. It is considered that children should undertake overall 200 minutes of physical education, 100 minutes of active sport and 100 minutes of PE in secondary school. However this has seen not to be the case as the ACHPER Fitness survey of 1987 found that in the schools surveyed an average of 116 minutes a week was being allocated to PE. Researchers believe a minimum of 3 lessons of skill learning each 45 minutes long and 3 fitness sessions a week each 30 minutes should be allocated to HPE, and this being the absolute minimum (htpp://web.ceo.adl.catholic.ed.au cited 10/01/2005). • 7. The Perfect Setting For A Ghost Story A warm, foggy December morning along the Florida coast is the perfect setting for a ghost story. I never intended to have these particular feelings, and emotions don t come easily for me, but add this gloomy weather to the after holiday hangover, the dread of a looming workday, the perfect song on the radio, and the haunts start to flow like tears. Or maybe they were tears. This is unfamiliar territory for a girl like me, but one thing I know for sure is the ghosts were real. They were right there beside me, in my head, through my windshield, and tagging along behind. They are always there. Ghosts can come in a lot of forms. There are the loved ones lost, there are the spooky haunts and ghost stories, but the worst kind of ghost is the memory of pur own actions. A ghost we create freely and then have to live with indefinitely. We all have regrets, but a ghost takes regret to another level. A ghost is a recurring emotion, a feeling imprinted upon us and others that cannot be forgotten nor rectified. In time all things can be forgiven; the majority of my ghosts have been forgiven, but they still reside inside of me. Forgiveness does not allay the haunt. I know what I said. I know what I did. I know where I ve been. I know the power I have over others, and I know I haven t always wielded it responsibly. I know how to inflict pain. It is interesting to learn how the Greeks were among the first to use persuasion. Aristotle defined rhetoric as the faculty of observing in any given case, the available means of persuasion (17). Aristotlebelieved that persuasion consist of artistic and inartistic proofs. When giving a persuasive speech we are able to control certain aspects of it such as the delivery, evidence and word usage which are the artistic proofs. Many individuals do not want to live with the guilt of not helping out and so they decide to donate for a good cause, thus eliminating that regret. The fortune that the Trask family has inherited is symbolic for the sins running through the family and because cal escaped the earnings from evil, he escaped the lifelong dependency on evil for his life, he could now choose to be good. Free will helps cal realize that he doesn t have to be bad and helps him choose the right path, this is important not only for the realization but also something that he craves, a blessing. Steinbeck portrays the significance of timshel through the blessing of Adam and the impact after that. After Adam encounters a stroke from finding out that Aaron died in the war, Caleb confronts him with the truth of how he is the culprit of Aaron s death. Adam then speaks his last word saying timshel to Caleb as a blessing for him. The blessing of timshel offers Cal forgiveness and the possibility of overcoming the sins of the fathers (Schultz). • 10. Multi Echelon Inventory Control With Integrated Shipment... In today s market, every company is looking for ways to cut cost and improve upon the movement of goods from origin to final destination. Companies can achieve this with the intermodal transportation design. Intermodal transportation eliminates the need for the company s movement experts to locate multiple carriers in order to move their goods from warehouses to stores or even home deliveries. By eliminating the multiple transactions with different transportation modes, the companies can quickly cut costs. Numerous companies and retailers are now asking to have research completed for their stores in order to see if the benefits of intermodal transportation were truly there. More often than not, the use of intermodal transportation has been a huge success and companies have transferred to using these methods. When it comes to needs of transportation, the companies need first look at their inventorymanagement and see what the best fit for their transportation needs is. This paper is a review of Multi echelon Inventory Control with Integrated Shipment Decisions by Olof Stenius. In a three part study conducted at the division of Production Management in the Department of Industrial Management and Logistics, at Lund University, the researchers put together three scenarios on how inventory management helped guide decision making on the use of intermodal transportation versus single mode transportation. • 11. Consumer Behavior Handbook Consumer Behavior Booking.com Understanding and acting upon consumer behavior is at the core of becoming a successful retailer. Today s business environment is packed with competing firms, all seeking to convenience customers to choose them over their competitors. Many industries, such as the soda, cell phone, and washing detergent industry are dominated by a just a few or a sole firm. Therefore, more than ever it is difficult to intervene in the habitual consumption of most consumers. A consumer s buying process is what must be closely analyzed by any existing or new firm that is trying to become competitive in today s business environment. A customer will have both utilitarian and hedonic needs. Often companies will attempt to merge these two types of needs to create an all encompassing experience. For example, the Wegmans store experience doesn t only satisfy the utilitarian need of purchasing groceries, it also provides stimulation (an aspect of satisfying hedonic needs) through visuals and well organized displays. Paying attention to such details and so creating a multi dimensional experience creates a competitive advantage. Perhaps the most radical change in consumer behavior happened when the new era of internet began and the way customer s search for information and evaluate alternatives changed almost instantly. Today customers face the challenge of being overwhelmed by information rather than not being able to access it. The internet has also revolutionized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Global Bearing Market For Automotive Bearings 1.Introduction In 2014, the global bearing market had a value of 75.91 billion dollars with a Compound Annual Grade Rate (CAGR) of 7.7% from the year of 2014 to 2020. The bearing market is mainly driven by automotive industry, meaning that if there is an increase of demand of vehicles, it will lead to an increase of bearings and steel (material used to manufacture the bearings) (PR Newswire, 2014). In March 2014, the European Commission found irregularities in the market for automotive bearings. These irregularities consisted of six companies that operated as a cartel for seven years (April 2004 July 2011) in the European Economic Area. Therefore, the European Commission penalized the participant companies by imposing fines of € 953,306,000 in total and also provided an opportunity for reduction when the involved companies agreed to clear up the case with the Commission. The involved companies were: the Europeans SKF and Schaeffler and the Japanese JTEKT, NSK, NFC, and NTN (European Commission, 2014). This paper presents a description of market structure in which the bearing companies operate in Europe, possible environment that led to collusive behavior, incentives for companies that led them to participate in cartel and resulting welfare from it. Holding a debate on the issue of poverty, is one that can easily go awry due to it s complexity and emotional aspects. In order to evaluate the debate, both teams need to fully understand the proposal and clearly articulate their stance. The debate teams need to be able to clearly explain their position, refute the opponent s argument, provide solutions, provide a stimulating counter examination, and effectively answer questions from the judges. Other logistical aspects of the debate that will be judged on is the ability to efficiently use time and allocate it between team members, as well as refraining from interrupting other debates and keeping an appropriate volume and demeanor. There are various general questions that will be utilized in my evaluation of the debate. Did the teams address what poverty is, how people become poor and remain poor, explain why it s the individual or society s fault, why we haven t been able to dramatically keep poverty low, why current efforts are not working, and what new solutions should be utilized? William Shakespeare s The Globe Theatre During the Elizabethan Era, The Globe Theatre was a very influential upcoming piece of architecture that even Shakespeare first had his plays performed in. Although it was very difficult to keep the building standing for long, it inspired many new theatre styles and still lives on today in England. The Globe Theatrewas extremely influential during the Elizabethan Era because of its long history, unique architecture, and new ways of acting to go along with the new theatre style. Although the majority of Shakespeare s plays were first produced in the original Globe Theatre, his plays used to be performed in other forms of amphitheaters, such as halls, inns or open arenas (Cummings). Shakespeare belonged to a company called Chamberlain s Men. They acted and before The Globe Theatre even existed, they would perform in The Theatre, originally built and owned by James Burbage (Cummings). The Burbage family consisted of James, the father and owner of The Theatre, and Cuthbert Burbage, who was not actor but admired theatre (Cummings). The other son of James Burbage was Robert Burbage, an actor in the Chamberlain s Men acting company and star of most Shakespearian plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet (Cummings). In 1597, the land that The Theatre was built on had a lease that was almost up, and Giles Allen, the owner of the land, wished to tear the building down (Pressley). The conclusion sentence should be interesting by giving it a call to action. As you can see a hamburger is easy to make like writing is not as hard as you think. Writing is very simple to do as preparing a hamburger. Although, most of the time hamburgers are dry and taste like cardboard. They are the ones that tend to not be juicy or appealing to the eye. Believe it or not, essays are similar to dry burgers. Writing essays can lack clear thoughts, explanations, and opinions as well as vague arguments. Lewis, shows how Screwtape uses subtlety and psychology when he is tempting human beings into sin. He plays with the patient s imagination, emotions, will, and intellect. Also, he shows great shrewdness when encouraging sin that does not appear to be sin. Screwtape shows effective psychologyin encouraging the patient to displace intellect and will in prayer with imagination and emotion, and he shows subtlety in encouraging gluttony of delicacy, pridein humility, and superiority in being part of an elite Christian social circle. In addition, when the patient says, for example, All I want is a cup of tea... and the teeniest bit of really crispy toast, the sin of greed is successfully and unnoticeably committed, because it is used to obtain exactly what one wants. Also, the All I want way of acting can become a hassle to others as it asks of them to go out of their way in order to make something perfect. Moreover, it could jeopardize friendships because perfection can never be attained, and the dissatisfaction resulting from this causes ill temper towards others. Furthermore, while gluttony of delicacy may avoid the sin of gluttony of excess, it produces querulousness, impatience, uncharitableness, and self concern, counteracting the attempt to avoid sin in the first place. Screwtape shows subtlety in encouraging gluttony of delicacy. Smartly using the virtue of humility as a means of sin, Screwtape shows his subtlety when explaining how easily humility can be turned into pride. Once the patient is sincerely acting humble, one has to just enlighten him of his humility, and the prideful thought that he actually was just being humble will spoil the grace filled moment. Also, another way to accomplish twisting the virtue of humility into pride, is to make the patient forget the meaning of humility; make him believe that humility means to think less of his talents and himself; this plants dishonesty into his soul where otherwise virtue could have grown. ... • 24. Terrorism And The Constitution Act Terrorism and the Constitution is organized in four parts. The first provides an historical account of federal investigations of First Amendment activities, focusing on the FBI s investigative activities prior to 9/11. The authors make a persuasive case that the FBI s investigative power has frequently been used to harass those involved in controversial political activities, and to disrupt controversial social movements, even where no evidence of illegal activity has been noted. To do this, the authors begin the book with five stories, examples of the recurring nature of the government s misguided response to ideological threats. The stories begin in the years of the Cold War and end in an account of law enforcement since 2001. In Part Three, Cole and Dempsey focus on the Anti Terrorism Act of 1996, a forerunner to the Patriot Act that helped to establish the legal framework for today s domestic war on terror. The act allows the State Department to designate Foreign Terrorist Organizations in a process that is highly politicized and lacking sufficient objective criteria. It also makes it possible for government prosecutors to bring cases against individuals without proof that they have engaged in terrorism, aided or abetted terrorists, or planned to commit terrorism. • 37. The Design Of An Architect There are different ways of invitation to tender. Once the client chooses to take the project in mind further, either directly approaches the contractor or through an architect. Client directly approaches the builder for the simple or low value work such as house decoration or house extension. The builder comes to the premises where the job will carry out, client explains the job and awaits for the offer. Then builder s estimator measures the work, price it and makes the offer according to builder s own terms and conditions. If the work is big and high in value such as building a house or an industrial unit, client approaches an architect who will design the project, submit the drawings to the builder including specifications and detailed standard form of contract. Builder s estimator measure the quantities of work based upon the drawings and then will price it and make an offer. The specifications and details of standard form of contract selected by the architect. Alternatively client may approach a contractor for complete design and build and request an offer. For projects that are more complex for instance measured in terms of value will cover the majority of construction work client approaches to an architect and gives the project brief then the architect carries out initial design and produces sketch drawings. Later the design has conceded to the quantity surveyor who makes the prediction of probable tender value. If the client agrees the value, the architect carry on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Effects Of Video Games On The Human Mind In 1976 the arcade game Death Race was released based on the movie Death Race 2000 . The objective of this game was to use your car in order to run over fleeing goblins. This video game was so simple and yet brought forth so much controversy that it led to the first study on the physiological effect of video games on the human mind. Ever since Death Race, video games have continued to make huge advances in order to create an almost endless amount of possibilities on what you can or cannot do in a video game. Since the first video game was introduced, the gaming industry has seen a huge spike in the popularity of video games. Not only have they become more popular, but they have also become significantly more realistic. So realistic, that it s now hard to tell the difference between an animation and an actor in a movie. I ve been playing video games now for as long as I can remember. Since childhood, I ve played every kind of video game, from the educational and harmless ones to the mature, bloody and gruesome ones. While I, personally, have never experienced any type of violent thoughts or behavior due to games, can the same be said about today s youth? With video game popularity on the rise and violence so pervasive, can violent video games really be held accountable for it all? The intent of this paper is to first examine the psychological effects of violent video games and to secondly give reasons as to why they in fact do not desensitize youth and to finally give ... • 41. What Is The Effect Of Temperature On Reaction Rate The purpose of this lab is to explore the effects of enzyme concentration, substrate concentration, temperature, and inhibitors on reaction rate, respectively. To test each of these factors, four activities were completed. The enzyme from Turnip Extract and the substrate Peroxide were tested. The turnip extract was tested at the following concentrations: .5ml, 1.0ml, and 2.0ml. Peroxide was tested at the following concentrations: 0.1ml, 0.2ml, and 0.4ml. In order to understand the effect of temperature on reaction ratethe following temperatures were tested: 4C, 23C, 37C, and 60C. To achieve the desired temperatures, an ice bath and water baths were utilized. Lastly, the effect of the inhibitor Hydroxylamine was tested in the following amounts: 0 drops, 1 drop, and 5 drops. In the experiment, Guaiacol was used to determine the rate of reaction by the absorbance measured. When Guaiacol is oxidized it has a brownish color, the presence of the brownish color indicates Peroxide (substrate of peroxidase) has undergone the reaction and has been reduced to water. By this, the reaction rate can be determined by the color change or absorbance over time. For each activity, a spectrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance. After that, the data for each activity was translated to graph where linear regression was used to analyze the effects. The results of the enzymeconcentrations on reaction rate are the following: low enzyme concentration (0.5 ml) had a reaction rate of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Global Financial Crisis And Its Impact On Economic Policy... Financialisation is the process in which financial institutions/markets increase in size and gain greater influence over economic policy and outcomes (Palley, 2007).Another link to financialisation is high degree of leverage. This is because with leverage, you can get a loan for 9/10s of the money, so you only need a small portion, and you are able to make lots of profit. Leverage is linked to financialisation in a sense that if it works, you get lots of profit with a working system, however if it doesn t work, then you can lose lots of money, and in high degrees of leverage, you can be losing lots of money by the investment not working out, and someone then has to pay off the loaned money. In this essay, I will be analysing whether or not financialisation was the main cause of the 2008 global financial crisis, or if there were other factors involved in the great recession. I will be arguing that financialisation was a cause of the crash, but because it was aided by other factors, it is not the sole reason behind the collapse. The points that I will be making in my argument will be in relation to the financial crisis in the context of financialisation, talking about market deregulation and subprime mortgages. The second point that I will make will be about the greed of the CEOs on Wall Street, and their irresponsibility when it comes to the money of others. The final point that I will be making will be about the irresponsibility on behalf of the regulators, and how they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He proves Acquavivas argument insufficient and points out that athletic scholars are so over scheduled with practices, training centers, etc, that the colleges aim to focus athletes mostly on the sport surfaces (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Consequently, many either cannot or will poorly earn a degree. Former NFL player Dexter Manley is an example. Manley declared that he left Oklahoma State University illiterate (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Although students have to keep an acceptable GPA, it still doesn t guarantee that they will actually learn anything or come out of school prepared to possibly face the job market. Another argument in favor of the extinction of the athletic scholarships is that athletes don t get enough money to live decently. The financial aid money covers the tuition, fees, living and book expenses (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Even so research by the Collegiate Athletes Coalition (CAC), a non profit group of parents interested in helping athletes study in higher education facilities fully sponsored, uncovered a gap of at least $2,000 between the expenses the school pays for and the total of what the student will need over the course of his or her academic life (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). This led some to consider paying athletes. Johnson responded by presenting several options to improve the athletes lifestyle by giving them more money (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). ... • 44. E1 Synthesis Lab Report An E1 reaction involves a two step mechanism. In this particular reaction, before the first step can take place, the alcohol group on 2 methyl 2 butanol is protonated by sulfuric acid so that water is formed as a suitable leaving group. The first step can then take place: the loss of water as leaving group to form a carbocation intermediate. Then, a beta proton is eliminated resulting in the formation of a double bond, forming an alkene. In this reaction, a major product (2 methyl 2 butene) and a minor product (2 methyl 1 butene) are formed. Two products were formed because two different beta protons were available for elimination, resulting in the double bond being put in two different positions. However, one of the products is favored and considered major because of Zaitsev s rule that states the more substituted alkene is favored.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It helped defined a genre, and gave a new meaning to the gothic novel line of books. Shelley came up with the idea of Frankenstein during a bet with her fellow poet friends. Whomever could write the best scary story won their competition, and this was how Frankensteinwas born. Shelley included many themes in her creation of the story Frankenstein such as Family, Imagination, Ambition, Education, and Nature. The irony behind his love of nature is clear because the monster himself is a violation of nature. Victor reversed nature when he brought back something from the dead. The creature may be living, breathing, and sentient but he is an abomination of nature. Shelley used her grief of losing her baby, to create the monster in a way that makes him seem as if he is an infant and he has been rejected as an infant by society and made out to be an evil monster (Britton, Abstract). The creature himself was just born a man, he did not experience infanthood, he was just created. He was created and immediately hated, and he could not understand why because he had the mind of an infant. He was innocent until he was treated horribly. This is an example of human nature. Human nature is hating something that is so different than you, just for being different. And human nature is shown in all its ugliness in this story, for wherever the monster goes, there are people to chase him away for being scary. This almost parallels the Rime of the Ancient Mariner in a sense. In the Ancient Mariner, the Mariner harms nature and nature harms him right back. The theme is that you must respect nature otherwise you will be killed by the one thing you defiled. And this is true of Victor and his monster. He defiled nature, and the life of what he created, and nature came back to kill his family and in the end, it killed Victor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
