Your association’s most precious asset is your people – both your staff and your members. For your association to perform at a high level, serve your audience effectively and continue to grow, you must maximize the results your organization receives from both groups.
Like most associations, your members and your staff represent a broad range of ages, backgrounds and experiences. You’ve heard terms like Baby Boomer, Generation X and Millennials, but did you know there are common experiences that can predict how members of these groups will respond to certain events and communications? -

Abstract: Despite the strides made recently for women in business, female tech professionals continue to be outpaced by their male counterparts. According to Silicon Valley Bank’s Innovation Economy Outlook survey, less than 50 percent of technology companies have women in the C-suite or serving on the board of directors. Only 19 percent of CIO positions for Fortune 250 companies are held by women.
In fact, the gender disparity among technology professionals seems to be increasing in spite of recent gains throughout the workplace. Fewer women are joining the tech workforce and the numbers of female students studying technology is in decline—today only 18 percent of computer science majors are women, compared to 37 percent in the mid-1980s. Add in a continued wage imbalance and a high turnover rate for female tech professionals mid-career and it is clear that there is work to be done. How can we encourage more women to join the technology field and insurance technology in particular? What can be done to break down the barriers to success as a female technology professional?

This paper is about human-centered design, culture design of the social side of platform businesses.
It includes a case study of Airbnb and Chip Conley's work in developing the Airbnb culture. He was inspired by the writings of psychologists Abraham Maslow and Vktor Frankl, who both wrote about how people experience meaning and inspiration in their lives. Conley designed scaleable human resources and cultural designs to help people find meaning and join with others in meaningful experiences and communities.
Platform businesses are usually described in terms of their economic network effects and as multi-sided markets. However, they are obviously social networks as well, and as such culture and communities and all sorts of relationships develop upon them.

Who helped build America while almost no one was watching? And why have we almost completely forgotten this?
A new book helps explain what chambers did, why they did it, and why we shouldn’t forget them. The book is called: The Magicians of Main Street: America and its Chambers of Commerce, 1768-1945. An epilogue takes the story up to today.
The author and our webinar host is Chris Mead, senior vice president of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE). Mead will explain why chambers dreamed so much and reached so far – sometimes too far. But our country would be nothing like what it is if not for business organizations very much like yours.
This is the very first webinar on this topic since the book was published and had its debut at the ACCE convention last month, where it was the talk of the attendees. Come learn about the pickup teams of business people who changed their communities and, occasionally, their nation and even the world.
