Scout Reflection
On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their Merit
Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever been truly
prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up to the time their
session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a considerable amount
more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to work with such intelligent
groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these Cub Scouts knew an impressive
amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced myself to change how I was presenting the
material. I engaged the scouts into the material by asking each one tons of questions about what they
already knew. Then I made sure they stayed busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them
into the material. I believe that when I had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well.
I was able to better grab the scouts attention and help them learn more information than before they
walked into the session. One of the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to
be about geographical surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel
as if I did not know enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was
truly benefiting the scouts. However, the scout leaders were

Communication And Complex Communication
Complex Communication
Where humans are today is an absolute miracle significantly due to the process of collective learning.
Collective learning is how individuals learned to do many fundamental tasks and how various cultures
in the world developed. Early evidence of collective learning was found by archaeologists when they
discovered human skulls that dated back about 200,000 years ago. These skulls had a more flexible
jaw allowing those early humans to speak vocally. (Early Evidence of Collective Learning, Big
History Project). Languages allowed humans to share information with each other and pass down
information across countless generations. Humans have cultivated a complex and well defined
language that has allowed for collective learning in which we can progress much further as a society
than any other animal group has.
All living beings have communication but what s special about human communication is that there are
elaborate languages. These elaborate languages have a lot of flexibility to the point where new words
are made and added constantly (Text 8). However, in other organisms that doesn t happen because
they keep on communicating in a stagnant language. For example, bacteria can communicate by
producing distinctive organic molecules that have specialized receptors. These receptors allow
bacteria to detect the presence of other bacteria (Text 1). This is important to bacteria because it lets
them detect other bacteria and usually bacteria want to be in a

The Use Of Cross Symbols
The Cross
The cross is a symbol that has been used throughout the centuries as a symbol of the Christian
religion. There are 4 types of representation of the cross: the crux quadrata, the crux immissa, the crux
decussata. The crux quadrata is a Greek cross where the 4 arms are equal. The crux immissa is a Latin
cross where only 3 of the 4 arms are equal. Its stem is longer compared to the other arms. The crux
commissa has the shape of tau, a Greek letter and can also be referred to as St. Anthony s cross. Crux
decussata is named from the Roman symbol of the number 10 and is also referred to as St. Andrew s
cross. Long before the Christian Era, cross symbols were used but it s unclear if they were a
representation for belief and worship or if they were just marks.
Before the 4th century Christians were extremely conservative about displaying the cross because they
were vulnerable to being ridiculed and being in danger. During the 4th century when Constantine was
emperor, he eliminated crucifixion. During that time, crucifixion was used as a form of death penalty.
Emperor Constantine encouraged the use of the cross and they began popular in funeral monuments
and Christian art from c.350. Centuries after, the crosses had a representation of Christ. The
representation of Christ by the 9th century had become more realistic and portrayed agony, it showed
Christ with a crown of thorns. The crucifix is mostly for peoples own devotional use. During the 16th
century, Lutherans

The Theme Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116
Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 is a poem about love. In the text Shakespeare refers to love as everlasting
and describes love as an instrumental part of being human. Shakespeare further describes love as an
ever fixed mark and never bending. He even goes as far as to say, love s not time s fool which clearly
embodies the point of the text that love never changes and endures through all trials of life and does it
in a concise manner.
Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 is one of his many sonnets. A sonnet is a fourteen lined single stanza piece
of text, it uses an iambic pentameter which means there are two syllable phrases in each line: the first
shorter and unstressed, and the second longer and stressed . A clear example of this is the eighth line
of the text which states Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken.
This piece of text is a traditional fourteen lined sonnets and stays true to the limits of such.
Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 uses very clear tone throughout the text. This is demonstrated through the
composer s use of language when he states, Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit
impediments. This is one of many examples that makes Shakespeare s great respect for marriage clear.
The various examples from the text show that Shakespeare wrote from a place of respect and love
rather than from contempt and hate, as he suggests that he would not admit independence from those
whose love he takes to be thought out with discretion and time. The composer

The doing ethics technique The technique of analysis depends upon asking questions. It has been
found that the order in which the questions are asked is also important. The following questions, in
this order, have been found to work best (through trial and error over many semesters). Q1 What is
going on? What are the facts? Q2 What are the issues? Q3 Who is affected? Q4 hence, What are the
ethical issues and implications? Q5 What can be done about it? What options are there? and Q6 Which
option is best? and Why? Benefits An injunction to think ethically about a situation is not helpful.
Perhaps if one has a background in moral philosophy this would work, but usually both students and
IT professionals require some form of guidance as to how to achieve an appropriate outcome. The
technique has proven itself as a means to achieving this, at least for PIIT students. This approach is not
dependent on a particular standard, such as the code of ethics of a particular professional society. It is
a technique that can be applied in a variety of circumstances, not limited by technological, cultural or
religious background. The approach is not limited by one s moral philosophy. One can use this
technique effectively and be an objectivist, holding that certain moral truths remain good
independently of personal likes and dislikes, or a relativist, holding that truths are relative to the
individual

It s Time To Flunk Out Of High School
Bleep, Bleep, Bleep, Bleep. The pitch black, silent night is ruined by the illuminated, vibrating device
beside my bed which has awakened me from my slumber. Staying up until 1:00 AM wasn t exactly my
finest hour, but the homework that was due the next morning needed to be done, but this particular
morning has made me realize something very important. School isn t something I particularly needed
for a brighter future. Look at Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. Neither of these prosperous men graduated
college, so what could not graduating from high school do for you? This is how to flunk out of school.
The first step of flunking out of high school is enroll in as many dual credit classes as possible. The

It seems as if high school was meant to suck individuality and joy out of students. Go exactly against
the norm, and have as much fun as possible. Clearly, being lively as possible could not benefit test
scores at all. The fourth step is most definitely not putting forth any effort towards studying. Don t
even study the night before a test or quiz. That occasionally helps grades, so put forth no effort at all.
Don t ever bring work home to do, so you can have it done on time. Late grades are always good as
explained in the previous paragraphs. The number one rule with this step of failing high school is
absolutely, at any time, under any circumstances go to tutoring. Tutoring will support test scores
tremendously. This step may be the most important step in failing all classes. The final step would be
to lose as many papers or supplies avaliable. Not having a pencil or paper leads to missed work also. It
damages grades tremendously. Losing papers that was forced to do is also a good idea. A
teacher/professor cannot do anything about lost papers except put a big fat zero in the gradebook.
Follow these steps to become rich and famous like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, and be the drop out of

Analysis Of Hate And Tea In The Harem
When comparing storylines, Hate and Tea in the Harem each possess a clear theme of despair. While
both formed around this theme, their takes on despair, more specifically the challenges faced because
of despair, are different. The greatest difference between Hate and Tea in the Harem is the impact of
time on despair s challenges and how it influences the concept of survival.
The amount that time is emphasized determines the effect each encounter with despair has on a story.
In Hate, time is emphasized greatly, most evident when the exact hour is pasted in bold white numbers
against a black screen throughout the film. This use mixed with the overall storyline being within the
frame of a day creates the feeling that time is counting down. The sense of time counting down
reflects the short span characters Saïd, Vinz, and Hubert have before meeting their ultimate bout with
despair. Opposite is seen in Tea in the Harem, where time is not explicitly stated nor a time frame
given. Without a true sense of time, the despair is strung out and not as potent as it is in Hate. For Tea
in the Harem, time does not feel like it is counting down or running out; time feels never ending and
inexhaustible, just as despair is. This contrast in time between the movie and the novel presents
different challenges with despair for each piece. Through Hate taking place in the span of one day, the
short timeframe adds on to the countdown effect, generating the impression that challenges are

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Book Of Job Essay
Human problems does not change throughout history but instead get told in different forms. The Epic
of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job are a quest for immortality and deal with the realization that death
is final and will come for everyone. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job have a similar main
theme of immortality and context, but the Book of Job has a more optimistic and friendly world view.
These two stories are very similar in their context because they occur close together in history. The
Epic of Gilgamesh was written around 600 B.C.E. but the historical events that the Epic of Gilgamesh
talks about would have taken place around 2,700 B.C.E. which is when Gilgamesh lived. Similarly,
the Book of Job was written around 1,000 B.C.E. but would have taken place around 2,000 B.C.E.
Both of these stories happened within 700 years of each other but didn t get written until many years
later, 2,000 years later for the Epic of Gilgamesh and 1,000 years later for the Book of Job. While a
700 year difference may seem big when put into perspective of history the 700 years is an extremely
small gap. By being so close to each other in time, this means that the context and advancement
between the two aren t significantly different.
The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job also took place in Mesopotamia, which is today Syria,
Iraq, and parts of Turkey and Iran. The location of Mesopotamia plays a vital role in the stories.
Mesopotamia has fierce unpredictable weather, tribal

Option 1 Continue with existing 3 pronged strategy and expand operations within the Australian

Option 2 Maintain 3 pronged strategy, seeking to leverage government support
Option 3 Remove two prongs, greater focus on the existing importing global model. Along with

The addition of a technology and R D strategy by expanding Australian operations to focus on hybrid
and autonomous technologies provides opportunities to develop competitive advantage in the
Australian market by providing Australian made vehicles. In addition, this aligns with the Federal
Government s National Innovation and Science Agenda (NISA).
This option is not without it s risks such as the higher production costs in Australia over other Toyota
plants in developing economies. In addition, the geographical remoteness of increasing shipping fees.
Equipment and parts availability not to mention the overall market acceptance of Hybrid technology
thus this option is very much a long term approach. A SWOT analysis for this option is outlined below

Option 2 maintains the current three pronged approach, stepping up lobbying of the Federal

Recycling Landfills
Year after year, demands of consumers and output of products is increasing. As a result, landfills in
America are steadily growing and in response, so is the emphasis on recycling. Though recycling has
had a positive effect on the environment, it is not a fully sustainable solution to taking care of the
billions of tons of waste produced by Americans. As toxins are released and gasses are emitted, the
need for a solution to the exponential growth of landfills is prominent. A trending and interesting
answer is living a zero waste lifestyle. Though most products come with some variation of packaging,
dedicated environmentalists have successfully adopted this habit and hope their efforts will have a
visible effect. Municipal solid waste (MSW), more commonly known as garbage or trash, is steadily
filling landfills across the United States. Landfills are carefully built disposal facilities for MSW and
are designed to keep the waste from contaminating the environment around it (Advanced Disposal
Services, 2017). The use of landfills is a two thousand year old tradition, starting in Ancient Rome and
becoming popular in the United States in the mid 1950 s (Ezban. 2012). There are many factors that
contribute to the filling of landfills. Growing population rates, product packaging increases, and
consumption rates are to name a few (Shah, et al, 2007). In a recent study it was concluded that
Americans generated about 258 million tons of MSW in 2014, up from the previous peak of

representation of an individual, to show the memory of their soul through artwork even if it s

portraits tell their own story in a moment of time through the frame of the artistic eye. Portraits consist

For example, Yousuf Karsh characterizes Muhammad Ali (plate 1) through a powerful photograph, not
only as an individual but an American hero who shows power and strength. When looking at the
image the most apparent form is his face and the emotion that is being expressed. While Ali s head is
turned at forty five degrees, he remains to have eye contact with the viewers, which means he is not
afraid to show the world who he is and how he wants to be represented. Furthermore, the bold stance
of his fists carefully placed on his hips and his shoulders slightly forward exemplifies his fearlessness
and confidence that he has in himself and that many others who chant his name know him to be.
While Karsh identifies a more serious approach to a portrait that captures what Muhammad Ali stood
for, there are also more whimsical ways to apprehend the narration of a person. Gwenn Seemel is one
amazing artist that truly captures the essence of a person and makes them come alive on the canvas.
During the course of an hour long interview, Seemel takes hundreds of photos while her subject spills
his or her whole life s story. In a video about her artwork and the process that goes with it she states,
Portraits should not be a still thing. While portraits are often a two dimensional representation of an

keeping his jobs because other employers and individuals throughout the movie undermine his
abilities. Sam fought hard to have custody of his daughter. Sam and his friends looked for attorney s to

Great Philosophers
For this assignment, I chose the following three ethical philosophers: Confucius, Immanuel Kant, and
Paulo Freire. Each of these ethicists differs in the way they resolved ethical dilemmas and the
assignment will focus on how each ethicists would respond to a certain situation. Confucius reasoning
is that all human are good; however, when face with an ethical dilemma, there is an inequality
between what is good and bad. I believe that the response from Confucius it would not be acceptable
to steal food to feed a starving child. The reason why I believe this is because Confucius was a virtue
ethicist and believed in loyalty, which is respect for the law and stealing, is not showing respect for the
law (Great Philosophers, n.d.). I believe that Confucius would go to the store and ask the store
manager and tell him the situation about starving child. One of Confucius central virtues is honest,
which is respect for the truth. Telling the store manager the truth is not only respecting the store but
also respecting you (Great Philosophers, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next ethicist is Kant; whose reasoning I believe is that everything that is was illegal and morally
wrong is unacceptable. If we look at the situation regarding the stealing of food for a starving child, I
believe that Kant would response favorable to someone stealing food for a starving child. According
to Kantian ethics, we have a perfect to others not to steal; however, we also have imperfect duty to
assists others in need (Kantian Ethic, n.d.). Kantian Ethics is also based on the face that a person is
good or bad and what is their motivation of their actions and not the goodness of their action (Kantian

are safe to use. This is not only necessary to long term brand value and company success, but it is
required by law. Perfection is the goal; however product failure and defects always occur, especially in
advanced products such as vehicles. According to the statics, we found that Ford used to face the
serious lawsuit with their tires; Toyota lost a fortune by recalling of their defected vehicles.

The warranty policy was established by FASB, which specifies the range from guarantees of leases,
loans to stock price and letters of credit (Week, 2013). With the times goes by, the FASB replaces all
of the old warranty policy with a single Accounting Standards Codification (ASC). In this new policy,
it supersedes the original rules and specifies every detail of preparing the information related to
warranty. (Week, New Warranty Accounting Standards, 2013) The definition of contingency under
ASC Topic 450 10 20 of FASB states that an existing condition, situation, or set of circumstances

Three Types Of Cooperative Learning
2.9 Cooperative Learning Types There are three ways in which cooperative learning may be structured
in the university classroom (Johnson, Johnson, Smith, 2006). Instructors may use formal cooperative
learning, informal cooperative learning, or cooperative base groups.
2.9.1 Formal Cooperative learning
Formal cooperative learning triggers students to work together, for one class period to several weeks.
The aim is to achieve shared learning goals, and complete jointly specific tasks and assignments (such
as decision making or problem solving, completing a curriculum unit, writing a report, conducting a
survey or experiment, or reading a chapter or reference book, learning vocabulary, or answering
questions at the end of the chapter) (Johnson, Johnson, Smith, 2006). Instructors in this type of CL
specify the objectives for the lesson and decide on the size of groups and the way the classroom will
be arranged in, the method followed and the materials needed to conduct the lesson.
2.9.2 Informal Cooperative Learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It typically involves groups of two (e.g. turn to your partner discussions). These groups are often
temporary and can change from lesson to lesson. The Discussions in this type of CL have four
components that include formulating a response to questions asked by the instructor, sharing responses
to the questions asked with a partner, listening to a partner s responses to the same question, and
creating a new well developed answer. This type of learning enables the student to process,
consolidate, and retain more

Prion Protein
Prion Protein (PRNP) is encoded by a gene, which contains a highly unstable region of five tandem
octapeptide repeats. An octapeptide repeat is a fragment from the protein which is composed of eight
amino acids joined by peptide bonds, repeatedly copied along the amino acid chain. Within PRNP;
these are tandem meaning that the octapeptide sequences are in such an arrangement that they are
lined up one behind the other (Mastrianni, 2009).
Prion diseases or transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are fatal neurodegenerative
disorders (Jeong and Kim, 2014). These are diseases which affect the nervous system, in particular the
brain across many species. They are transmitted via prions. Prions are essentially proteins which like

This polymorphism encodes either for methionine or valine and is a major genetic risk factor for prion
diseases. Codon 219 alongside codon 127 can contain further resistance to Kuru.(Mead et al., 2011)
Kuru is a TSE; only found in tribal regions of Papua New Guinea (PNG) where endocannibalism
occurs. (This is the practice of eating the flesh from decreased humans from the same community).
One would have assumed that these adaptations for Kuru protection would be local to PNG, however
they are widespread across the globe, perhaps indicating that endocannibalism may have occurred
amongst all populations in the world histoically or alternatively it may be a normal site of variation
amgonst the populations which only become significant when patients are exposed to abnormal prion
proteins determining protection from the infection.
The ancestral allele is Adenine (A), the alleles may either be adenine or Guanine (G). It must always
be remembered that alleles are in pairs due to the formation of genetic material from two different
haploid sources: paternal and maternal and the pair of chromatids forming the chromosome.
Therefore, the resulting combinations of alleles can be homozygous (two identical alleles i.e. AA or
GG) or heterozygous (two different alleles i.e.

Polk And Roosevelt Compare And Contrast
For over two hundred years, our country has been served by many presidents who changed our
country; from turning territories into states to establishing borders around the United States of
America, our presidents have been in the forefront of our ever changing country. James Knox Polk
and Theodore Roosevelt transformed the face of the US by their actions as president: these include,
but are not limited to, expanding America, being involved and active in foreign affairs, and assuring
equality for all citizens of this country. While serving their terms, both presidents signed a plethora of
treaties, declared multiple wars, and passed various laws which helped shaped the United States of
America into what it is known as today. James K. Polk and Theodore Roosevelt completed numerous
actions that were both very similar as well as had beliefs that were contradicting to one another. ...

job as the clerk of the state senate which had a major impact on his political career. Eventually, his
hard work was rewarded when he received an offer to become a member of the Tennessee House of
Representatives. James married his wife, Sarah Childress, in 1824; she was known as the most
politically dominant president s wife because of how involved she was in various situations. She,

Should You Hire an Experienced Hacker to Protect Your It...
In undertaking the daunting task of securing your Information Technology systems, I think you have
to take what ever measures necessary. You can not afford to let competitors or criminal minded
individuals gain access to your vital data. I say who better to safeguard this information than someone
who knows the intricacies of what a hacker looks for when trying to infiltrate a network. I think you
would be making a mistake not to at least look in to hiring a hacker to help your organization.
Fist things fist lets look at what makes a hacker a hacker. Here are some of the various types of
hackers:
Hacker: refers to a type of computer hacker who is involved in computer security/insecurity,
specializing in the discovery of exploits in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Worm: Like a virus, a worm is also a self replicating program. The difference between a virus and a
worm is that a worm does not create multiple copies of itself on one system: it propagates through
computer networks. After the comparison between computer viruses and biological viruses, the
obvious comparison here is to a bacterium. Many people conflate the terms virus and worm , using
them both to describe any self propagating program. It is possible for a program to have the blunt
characteristics of both a worm and a virus. Most people when they here the term hacker automatically
think of a person of questionable morals and intentions. This is not always necessarily thecase. If you
do your homework and find a reputable white hat to add to your security team you would be moving
your company toward stability in securing your systems. Although when dealing with hackers you
always run the risk of infilitration; maybe you end up letting the individual go or they become
unhappy for whatevever reason, but I think the rewards far outweigh the risks. Get yourself a white
hat at the earliest opportunity.

Commentary on the Bat by Roethke
Aliona Fezoua My Expert Commentary The Bat Theodore Roethke: By day the bat is cousin to the
mouse. He likes the attic of an aging house. His fingers make a hat about his head. His pulse beat is so
slow we think him dead. He loops in crazy figures half the night Among the trees that face the corner
light. But when he brushes up against a screen, We are afraid of what our eyes have seen: For
something is amiss or out of place When mice with wings can wear a human face. Theodore Roethke s
poem The Bat clearly focuses on the animal the bat and effectively conveys through the latter an
important message to the reader. One could interpret this poem in various ways; however a prominent
theme would be that every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By comparing the bat s depiction during both day and night, Roethke may be trying to convey that the
bat is actually no more than a simple and peaceful being, which has been wrongly portrayed for years.
From another point of view, the author could be wanting to convey, through the image of a bat, that
everyone has a dark side . Roethke ingeniously does so in the final line of the poem with the latter s
twist metaphorical ending; when mice with wings can wear a human face (Roethke, 10). As previously
discussed, bats are usually associated with slyness and darkness, by making the bat wear a human face
, Roethke is trying to express that bats can sometimes resemble humans and vice versa. Ultimately,
humans can also sometimes wear a bat face and have a darker side. The author also gives the poem a
very descriptive tone through a significant amount of imagery. For example, the metaphor; his fingers
make a hat about his head (Roethke, 3), provides a detailed description of the bat s upper body in such
a way that the reader is able to picture the bat as what Roethke wants him/her to picture it as. One
could also infer that the author may again be trying to make the connection between bat and man;
since men wear hats and not bats. Another metaphor would be; by day the bat is cousin to the mouse
(Roethke, 1). Of course, mouse

How Buget Cuts Effect Fire Departments
Running head: Budgets and Fire Departments
How Budget Cuts Effect Fire Departments
Leann Rae
Edison State College How Budget Cuts Effect Fire Departments
Budgets have played a major role in fire departments all over the world. In the past couple of years,
fire department budgets have been in the headlines quite frequently. This is especially true in Florida,
where there has been much controversy in the proposal and passing of Amendment 1, in January 2008.
The passing of this amendment has left many counties and cities in Florida having to cut budgets
across the board, which includes the fire and EMS departments. Many departments are facing a
substantial loss in their fiscal year budget which could translate ... Show more content on

In the last few months, we ve noticed that more local governments from the villages to the big cities
have been complaining about shortfalls in their tax revenues. Even those that raised taxes find they re
not collecting as much as they expected because weakening economic conditions have resulted in
fewer business and property owners being able to pay their tax bills. Those that handed out tax breaks
a few years ago are in even worse shape and those in regions hit hard by the mortgage banking scandal
have become disaster areas. Experience also has shown that an arson wave seems to accompany a
recession. In fact, an increase in arson cases is one way of confirming that a recession has arrived. Its
the so called solution some people turn to when they re about to lose everything they own and all that
s left is the insurance on a business or a home. And, just when a fire department needs more trained
arson investigators on the street, some have to cut back in order to put every available body on the
understaffed engine and truck companies. Get ready for more and bisser fires. (Bruno, 2008, p.26).

The Crucible Of Life By Timothy Crutcher
The Crucible of Life, by Timothy Crutcher, is a book that explains: the interrelationship of theological
method and religious epistemology, the function of experience as an authority, the specific
epistemological grounds, and the usefulness today of John Wesley s theological method (17). The
book begins by explaining an important distinction in Wesley s usage of the word experience in
comparison to our contemporary common use of the word. That is, Wesley uses the word experience
to describe an outward, active process rather than a subjective and passive interpretation (23).
Furthermore, it is noted that Wesley should not be assumed to be a Lockean philosopher due to his
variety of philosophical roots (25). Then, the book explains in ... Show more content on

In other words, subjective experience offers no grounds to be tested against in Wesley s view (82).
Then, the authority of scripture and its a priori usage is presented. Scripture provides a positive a
priori, which is information that is useful when approaching new experiences (98) and negative a
priori, which is that which provides boundaries to our understandings (102). Furthermore, our
interpretation of scripture is monitored by reason. Reason (as logic) is necessary for a correct
interpretation of scripture to Wesley (110). Without it, we would be unable to acquire tools for proper
interpretation of scripture. In addition, reason may only be utilized when provided with experience
(115). However, experience, at times, can exceed that which reason has the power to evaluate (117).
And so, when reason is unable to be utilized to evaluate a particular experience, the hermeneutical
process between reason and experience becomes useful. We can evaluate our experiences via reason
continually until our experiences eventually point in a direction that can, perhaps, issue analyzable
knowledge on issues that were, at first, merely subjective (120). If an experience never arises in an
objective, rather than subjective, way throughout the hermeneutical, then Wesley admits that not even
his concept of spiritual senses can resolve the issue and the experience

  • 2. Scout Reflection On Saturday, the 28th of October, I presented Earth Rocks to Cub Scouts who were earning their Merit Badge. As I now reflect on the two sessions I taught that day, I wonder if I could have ever been truly prepared for them. I believed I had everything lined out and timed to take us right up to the time their session was over. However, that was not the case because the scouts knew a considerable amount more about the subject than I realized. I feel honored to have been able to work with such intelligent groups of scouts. During the first session, I quickly realized that these Cub Scouts knew an impressive amount about the information I was presenting, so I forced myself to change how I was presenting the material. I engaged the scouts into the material by asking each one tons of questions about what they already knew. Then I made sure they stayed busy with hands on activities that really engrossed them into the material. I believe that when I had to change my lesson plans on the spot, I did decently well. I was able to better grab the scouts attention and help them learn more information than before they walked into the session. One of the most challenging ideas I tried to teach to the scouts would have to be about geographical surroundings and the geographical materials that make up the buildings. I feel as if I did not know enough about the subject matter, or how to present it correctly in a way that was truly benefiting the scouts. However, the scout leaders were ... • 4. Communication And Complex Communication Complex Communication Where humans are today is an absolute miracle significantly due to the process of collective learning. Collective learning is how individuals learned to do many fundamental tasks and how various cultures in the world developed. Early evidence of collective learning was found by archaeologists when they discovered human skulls that dated back about 200,000 years ago. These skulls had a more flexible jaw allowing those early humans to speak vocally. (Early Evidence of Collective Learning, Big History Project). Languages allowed humans to share information with each other and pass down information across countless generations. Humans have cultivated a complex and well defined language that has allowed for collective learning in which we can progress much further as a society than any other animal group has. All living beings have communication but what s special about human communication is that there are elaborate languages. These elaborate languages have a lot of flexibility to the point where new words are made and added constantly (Text 8). However, in other organisms that doesn t happen because they keep on communicating in a stagnant language. For example, bacteria can communicate by producing distinctive organic molecules that have specialized receptors. These receptors allow bacteria to detect the presence of other bacteria (Text 1). This is important to bacteria because it lets them detect other bacteria and usually bacteria want to be in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Use Of Cross Symbols The Cross The cross is a symbol that has been used throughout the centuries as a symbol of the Christian religion. There are 4 types of representation of the cross: the crux quadrata, the crux immissa, the crux decussata. The crux quadrata is a Greek cross where the 4 arms are equal. The crux immissa is a Latin cross where only 3 of the 4 arms are equal. Its stem is longer compared to the other arms. The crux commissa has the shape of tau, a Greek letter and can also be referred to as St. Anthony s cross. Crux decussata is named from the Roman symbol of the number 10 and is also referred to as St. Andrew s cross. Long before the Christian Era, cross symbols were used but it s unclear if they were a representation for belief and worship or if they were just marks. Before the 4th century Christians were extremely conservative about displaying the cross because they were vulnerable to being ridiculed and being in danger. During the 4th century when Constantine was emperor, he eliminated crucifixion. During that time, crucifixion was used as a form of death penalty. Emperor Constantine encouraged the use of the cross and they began popular in funeral monuments and Christian art from c.350. Centuries after, the crosses had a representation of Christ. The representation of Christ by the 9th century had become more realistic and portrayed agony, it showed Christ with a crown of thorns. The crucifix is mostly for peoples own devotional use. During the 16th century, Lutherans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Theme Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 is a poem about love. In the text Shakespeare refers to love as everlasting and describes love as an instrumental part of being human. Shakespeare further describes love as an ever fixed mark and never bending. He even goes as far as to say, love s not time s fool which clearly embodies the point of the text that love never changes and endures through all trials of life and does it in a concise manner. Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 is one of his many sonnets. A sonnet is a fourteen lined single stanza piece of text, it uses an iambic pentameter which means there are two syllable phrases in each line: the first shorter and unstressed, and the second longer and stressed . A clear example of this is the eighth line of the text which states Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken. This piece of text is a traditional fourteen lined sonnets and stays true to the limits of such. Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 uses very clear tone throughout the text. This is demonstrated through the composer s use of language when he states, Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments. This is one of many examples that makes Shakespeare s great respect for marriage clear. The various examples from the text show that Shakespeare wrote from a place of respect and love rather than from contempt and hate, as he suggests that he would not admit independence from those whose love he takes to be thought out with discretion and time. The composer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. option is best? and Why? Benefits An injunction to think ethically about a situation is not helpful. Perhaps if one has a background in moral philosophy this would work, but usually both students and IT professionals require some form of guidance as to how to achieve an appropriate outcome. The technique has proven itself as a means to achieving this, at least for PIIT students. This approach is not dependent on a particular standard, such as the code of ethics of a particular professional society. It is a technique that can be applied in a variety of circumstances, not limited by technological, cultural or religious background. The approach is not limited by one s moral philosophy. One can use this technique effectively and be an objectivist, holding that certain moral truths remain good independently of personal likes and dislikes, or a relativist, holding that truths are relative to the individual ... It seems as if high school was meant to suck individuality and joy out of students. Go exactly against the norm, and have as much fun as possible. Clearly, being lively as possible could not benefit test scores at all. The fourth step is most definitely not putting forth any effort towards studying. Don t even study the night before a test or quiz. That occasionally helps grades, so put forth no effort at all. Don t ever bring work home to do, so you can have it done on time. Late grades are always good as explained in the previous paragraphs. The number one rule with this step of failing high school is absolutely, at any time, under any circumstances go to tutoring. Tutoring will support test scores tremendously. This step may be the most important step in failing all classes. The final step would be to lose as many papers or supplies avaliable. Not having a pencil or paper leads to missed work also. It damages grades tremendously. Losing papers that was forced to do is also a good idea. A teacher/professor cannot do anything about lost papers except put a big fat zero in the gradebook. • 12. Analysis Of Hate And Tea In The Harem When comparing storylines, Hate and Tea in the Harem each possess a clear theme of despair. While both formed around this theme, their takes on despair, more specifically the challenges faced because of despair, are different. The greatest difference between Hate and Tea in the Harem is the impact of time on despair s challenges and how it influences the concept of survival. The amount that time is emphasized determines the effect each encounter with despair has on a story. In Hate, time is emphasized greatly, most evident when the exact hour is pasted in bold white numbers against a black screen throughout the film. This use mixed with the overall storyline being within the frame of a day creates the feeling that time is counting down. The sense of time counting down reflects the short span characters Saïd, Vinz, and Hubert have before meeting their ultimate bout with despair. Opposite is seen in Tea in the Harem, where time is not explicitly stated nor a time frame given. Without a true sense of time, the despair is strung out and not as potent as it is in Hate. For Tea in the Harem, time does not feel like it is counting down or running out; time feels never ending and inexhaustible, just as despair is. This contrast in time between the movie and the novel presents different challenges with despair for each piece. Through Hate taking place in the span of one day, the short timeframe adds on to the countdown effect, generating the impression that challenges are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Book Of Job Essay Human problems does not change throughout history but instead get told in different forms. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job are a quest for immortality and deal with the realization that death is final and will come for everyone. The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Job have a similar main theme of immortality and context, but the Book of Job has a more optimistic and friendly world view. These two stories are very similar in their context because they occur close together in history. The Epic of Gilgamesh was written around 600 B.C.E. but the historical events that the Epic of Gilgamesh talks about would have taken place around 2,700 B.C.E. which is when Gilgamesh lived. Similarly, the Book of Job was written around 1,000 B.C.E. but would have taken place around 2,000 B.C.E. Both of these stories happened within 700 years of each other but didn t get written until many years later, 2,000 years later for the Epic of Gilgamesh and 1,000 years later for the Book of Job. While a 700 year difference may seem big when put into perspective of history the 700 years is an extremely small gap. By being so close to each other in time, this means that the context and advancement between the two aren t significantly different. • 21. Recycling Landfills Year after year, demands of consumers and output of products is increasing. As a result, landfills in America are steadily growing and in response, so is the emphasis on recycling. Though recycling has had a positive effect on the environment, it is not a fully sustainable solution to taking care of the billions of tons of waste produced by Americans. As toxins are released and gasses are emitted, the need for a solution to the exponential growth of landfills is prominent. A trending and interesting answer is living a zero waste lifestyle. Though most products come with some variation of packaging, dedicated environmentalists have successfully adopted this habit and hope their efforts will have a visible effect. Municipal solid waste (MSW), more commonly known as garbage or trash, is steadily filling landfills across the United States. Landfills are carefully built disposal facilities for MSW and are designed to keep the waste from contaminating the environment around it (Advanced Disposal Services, 2017). The use of landfills is a two thousand year old tradition, starting in Ancient Rome and becoming popular in the United States in the mid 1950 s (Ezban. 2012). There are many factors that contribute to the filling of landfills. Growing population rates, product packaging increases, and consumption rates are to name a few (Shah, et al, 2007). In a recent study it was concluded that Americans generated about 258 million tons of MSW in 2014, up from the previous peak of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While Ali s head is turned at forty five degrees, he remains to have eye contact with the viewers, which means he is not afraid to show the world who he is and how he wants to be represented. Furthermore, the bold stance of his fists carefully placed on his hips and his shoulders slightly forward exemplifies his fearlessness and confidence that he has in himself and that many others who chant his name know him to be. Roethke ingeniously does so in the final line of the poem with the latter s twist metaphorical ending; when mice with wings can wear a human face (Roethke, 10). As previously discussed, bats are usually associated with slyness and darkness, by making the bat wear a human face , Roethke is trying to express that bats can sometimes resemble humans and vice versa. Ultimately, humans can also sometimes wear a bat face and have a darker side. The author also gives the poem a very descriptive tone through a significant amount of imagery. For example, the metaphor; his fingers make a hat about his head (Roethke, 3), provides a detailed description of the bat s upper body in such a way that the reader is able to picture the bat as what Roethke wants him/her to picture it as. The book begins by explaining an important distinction in Wesley s usage of the word experience in comparison to our contemporary common use of the word. That is, Wesley uses the word experience to describe an outward, active process rather than a subjective and passive interpretation (23). Furthermore, it is noted that Wesley should not be assumed to be a Lockean philosopher due to his variety of philosophical roots (25). Then, the book explains in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, subjective experience offers no grounds to be tested against in Wesley s view (82). Then, the authority of scripture and its a priori usage is presented. Scripture provides a positive a priori, which is information that is useful when approaching new experiences (98) and negative a priori, which is that which provides boundaries to our understandings (102). Furthermore, our interpretation of scripture is monitored by reason. Reason (as logic) is necessary for a correct interpretation of scripture to Wesley (110). Without it, we would be unable to acquire tools for proper interpretation of scripture. In addition, reason may only be utilized when provided with experience (115). However, experience, at times, can exceed that which reason has the power to evaluate (117). And so, when reason is unable to be utilized to evaluate a particular experience, the hermeneutical process between reason and experience becomes useful. We can evaluate our experiences via reason continually until our experiences eventually point in a direction that can, perhaps, issue analyzable knowledge on issues that were, at first, merely subjective (120). If an experience never arises in an objective, rather than subjective, way throughout the hermeneutical, then Wesley admits that not even his concept of spiritual senses can resolve the issue and the experience ...
