Short Story On Thomas Ham
Thomas Ham looked out the rainy window. The cars and trucks passed by. He saw the gray buildings.
He was scared. Why? When he got home his mom s boyfriend was probably. His dad died from saving
Tom from a fire. There was no money. They were forced to move to New York City in a small
apartment. The yellow bus slowly came to a stop. Tom got off of the bus. Pressed the button to call up
to his mom, Hi, mom
Hey, you can come up. The key is under the rug, his mom said. He walked through the passageway.
He came upon a courtyard with some old tables and chairs. He walked into his building. Then he
jogged up the stairs with his books. He picked up the key from under the rug. He turned the key and
walked in. He walked into the wood floor and green wall apartment. His mom was sitting reading on
her bed. Hey, how was your day? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though he was 13 and a half he didn t have anything else. It also reminded him of his dad.
Later that night, Tom went to go wash up after he ate his ramen noodles. He brushed his teeth. He
went to his bed and said to his mom, Will Will here tomorrow?
Ya, I know you don t like him but he is a nice guy. Thomas hid under the covers and cried until he fell
asleep.
Thomas woke up and it didn t look like his house. He stood up and stepped on the wool carpet. He
looked at the wooden support beams. He walked down some stairs. He saw a regular kitchen and
dining room. This must be a dream, he thought to himself. He walked out of the house. There was a
fountain when he walked out. People in medieval clothes were walking around everywhere. There
were white stone roofed house.
People were mumbling when they saw him, is he the one?
Wait is that Thomas?
Call the king!
Thomas looked around anxiously because they were looking at him and talking about him. Then
suddenly everything got quiet. A guy with a crown and

James Truslow Adams The American Dream
James Truslow Adams in 1931 coined the term The American Dream in his book The Epic of America
(Michels, n.d., para. 1). He wrote of an America that offered freedom of religion, and speech, as well
as political and social opportunities that few other countries offered. However, according to Eva
Michels, The American Dream means something different for each individual, it refers to the way of
life that Americans strive for and have equal rights to achieve regardless of social class or nationality
(n.d., para. 4). She goes on to write that for some this dream can mean opportunities and equality,
while for others it can mean materialism and gained wealth (Michels, n.d., para. 6). On the other hand,
there is a notion that The American Dream is free for the taking for anyone who desires wealth and
freedom. Robert A. Heinlein once, quickly rejected this notion saying, Nothing of value is free. Even
the breath of life is purchased at birth only through gasping effort and pain (n.d., n.p.). Immigrants
have been attracted to the opportunities of American life since 1607 when colonists created the first
settlement in Jamestown, since then people have migrated to America for many reasons. These
immigrants have entered the country expecting that these freedoms and The American Dream are free
creating an out of control immigration problem. As more and more people have immigrated, crime,
drugs, and negative economic consequences have resulted. The American government needs to

Othello- Jealousy
Jealousy, the green eyed monster
Shakespeare is consistent in his use of repeated themes throughout his works, particularly those of
love, death, and betrayal. Shakespeare repeats these themes to set the mood through his works. It is
important for Shakespeare to be consistent with his themes, or the plays would lose their meaning and
mood. All of these themes are present in Othello, but the most dominant is the theme of jealousy,
which presents itself multiple times throughout the play. We see the kind of jealousy which is envy of
what others have, and as the kind of which is fear of losing what we have. According to The New
Lexicon Webster s Encyclopedic Dictionary of the English Language, jealousy is a state of fear,
suspicion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iago then tells Roderigo that elsewhere will most likely be Cassio, and advises Roderigo that he
should start a fight with Cassio at the evening s celebration.
This begins part two of jealous Iago s plan of destruction. That night, Iago gets Cassio drunk and
sends Roderigo to start the fight with him. When Cassio stabs Governor Montano as he tried to hold
Cassio down, Iago sent Roderigo to raise alarm in the town. Othello arrives and strips Cassio of his
rank of lieutenant. Roderigo thought this plan was for him to get rid of Cassio so he would win over
Desdemona, but really it was for selfish Iago. Iago knew Cassio could not control his liquor and would
do something bad enough to lose his title, the title Iago was jealous that he did not have. Iago then
tells the audience that eliminating Cassio is the first important step in his plan to ruin Othello. I hate
the Moor, And it is thought abroad that twixt my sheets He s done my office. (Shakespeare I.iii.). Now
that Iago succeeded on getting Cassio stripped of his rank, his plan will continue to destroy Othello.
Part three of Iago s plan begins with Cassio distraught and feeling that his reputation has been ruined
forever. Iago guarantees Cassio that he can get back on Othello s good side by using Desdemona as a
midway. Iago tells the audience that he

Dbq Era of Good Feeling Ap Us History Essay
The period after the war of 1812 was labeled The Era of Good Feeling by historians. Some people
believe that this is an accurate label of this time period, but others disagree. Due to the emergence of
sectionalism concern with local interests, and nationalism patriotic feelings and self pride, people had
mixed feelings about this time period. Many people felt that times were high, and that nationalism and
sectionalism could only bolster the union, while others thought that it was sectionalism and
nationalism that caused disunion. Some of the documents used in this essay support the claim that the
period after 1812 was an era of good feelings. Other documents will oppose this claim with proof
from their own perspectives. Document B ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Doc. D). The case says that it would be difficult to sustain this proposition. Anna Hayes Johnson of
South Carolina wrote to her cousin in North Carolina complaining about the unhappy business which
has filled with consternation all our city and how nothing can save them. She writes that fifty to sixty
percent of the leaders are in jail, and twenty of them have been convicted and sentenced. (Doc. G).
The people living during this time period do not seem to think as highly of it as the people discussed
in the previous paragraph did. Documents E and I both portray different feelings about this era.
Document H is a political map that exemplifies sectionalism perfectly. During the presidential election
of 1820, James Monroe won every vote but one, but in 1824, the votes were split up between four
different candidates, and the results were just as varied. Each state had its own mind and voted for
who they felt was right, and not just as one union. Document E is a density map that shows how
populated each square mile of land was in 1820. Much of the land had less than two inhabitants per
square mile, and the people living there felt that they shouldn t be taxed the same as somewhere where
there were ninety or more inhabitants like in the northeast. This is a prime example of people who did
not think this was The Era of Good Feeling. The Era of Good Feeling is a label given to the time
period

The USould Adopt The Metric System
The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial
system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of
two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the
reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric system is easier to use. Though the metric
system and the imperial system are quite different.
The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and then it
also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and
seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit ...

There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example, in
1999 NASA s Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has been
already $327.6 million. It should of been 140 150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km above.
Being so close to Mars s surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of engineers used
the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my reason, because of
one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars. Another example is
Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The bolt that was
delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That happened because of a
conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different system they got the wrong
sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The
fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms.
They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they
miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That s my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is
not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It s
costing us money for not changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal
with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch
the units, they still made errors. Those errors cost them money, and why are these errors happening
can be contribute to learning the metric system at an early

Compare And Contrast Gorillas And Baboons
Have you ever wondered what gorillas and baboons eat, where they live, and what they look like?
Even though you may think these primates are the same, they are really quite different. From the
habitats to the diets, gorillas and baboons are interesting creatures. Some of the differences of these
two animals traits are that gorillas weigh about 374 pounds and baboons only weigh about 82 pounds
at the most. Gorillas are about 5.6 ft tall and baboons are only 2.3 ft tall. A few similarities are the
lifespan of 30 years in the wild. They clean each other for parasites, and they are both healthy. A few
similarities and differences are shown. Their diets are quite similar because they both eat seeds. A few
differences is that gorillas

Huggies vs Pampers
Competitive Strategies: Huggies vs. Pampers
BUS 508 Contemporary Business

Competitive Strategies: Huggies vs. Pampers Huggies versus Pampers is a dilemma many mothers
face standing in the aisles as they ponder what is most cost effective, the most leak protective or
simply the better product. These are two of the most popular brands of disposable brands. They are
comparable in concept, price and variety. Huggies is a brand of Kimberly Clark, INC. Pampers is a
brand of Proctor amp; Gamble, Company. They both share a significant percent of the global market.

You can innovate the promise you are making, you can innovate the products you deliver, or you can
innovate with different communication channels in how and where you have dialogue with your
customers around that product, (McReynolds, 2012) Procter amp; Gamble the makers of Pampers,
introduced this product in 1961 and currently holds about 35% of the global market. They were the
first to introduce the disposable diaper. Proctor and Gamble also have several other billion dollar
brands such as Tide Laundry detergent and Crest toothpaste. This variety of products that continue to
meet consumer needs for over a hundred years stems from the pipeline of its organizational structure.
A.G Lafley states in an article featured in Strategy +Business that they have the ability to
systematically convert ideas into new offerings that alter the very context of the business. (Lafley,
2008) Proctor amp;Gamble has a larger platform of brands to be innovated in than Kimberly Clark.
Kimberly Clark focusing on meeting consumer needs thorough changes and ways of improving the
product. Proctor amp; Gamble aims to continue to introduce new products to meet consumer needs. I
believe that this works well for both companies. Proctor and Gamble introduced Easy Ups shortly
after Kimberly Clark introduced Pull Ups. Proctor and Gamble has more control of the

Dosophila Larval Orn Experiment
The major conclusion from this study is that individual Drosophila larval ORN s are differentially
modulated by animal s starved state. We conclude this based on the following experimental evidence:
First, when we tested the olfactory responses of Drosophila larvae under starved conditions, using the
two choice assay (Monte, Woodard et al. 1989), (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008) we observed changes in
RI for only three out of the seven odorants tested. This experimental result supports previous work
from Mathew et al., 2013, which demonstrated functional diversity among individual ORNs. Starved
larvae had higher attractiveness to odorants acetal, pentyl acetate and 4, 5 dimethylthiazole. Each of
these odorants elicit strong and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have observed that acetal, 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine had higher run speed and run length in case of
non starved larvae while for pentyl acetate, the starved larvae had higher run speed and run length. As
of now we cannot explain the reason for this reversed trend in the case of pentyl acetate. However,
with the trends that we have observed for acetal and 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine we conclude that not all
ORN s show similar tracking effect under starvation. Each ORN is functionally diverse and act as
functionally non equivalent units. From our results, overall, we conclude that ORNs contribute
differently to the olfactory circuit under changes in internal states such as starvation. These results
further support previous studies regarding existence of functional individuality among neurons
(Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Starved state of the animal impacts olfactory behavior via GABA
signaling As mentioned previously, local neurons secrete GABA and LN s are primarily GABAergic
interneurons (Ng, Roorda et al. 2002). Olfactory receptor neurons express GABA (B) receptors (Root,
Masuyama et al. 2008) and strikingly each ORN channel has unique baseline levels of GABA (B)
receptor expression in adult flies (Root et al., 2008). When the levels of GABA (B) R1 in ORN::Or
42b and in ORN::Or 47a were decreased we observed no effect on starvation dependent behavior

An Unknown Grignard Reagent Experiment Essay
Grignard
5. Introduction In this experiment, an unknown Grignard reagent was prepared from an aryl halide.
The unknown reagent was then reacted with carbon dioxide to form a carboxylic acid. The solid acid
was then isolated and recrystallized before the melting point was taken. The precipitate was then
dissolved in water and titrated to determine the molecular weight. The melting point and molecular
weight were then used to determine the unknown acid obtained from the experiment.
6. Data and Results The product obtained had a melting point of approximately 107 °C and a weight
of .324 grams. Some of the product would not dissolve in water and so was removed through vacuum
filtration, which left .141 g not dissolved in solution. It took 13.2 mL of sodium hydroxide to turn the
solution of the product dissolved in water pink. A molecular weight of 138.63 g/mol was calculated
from the data. These results indicate that the product was 2 methylbenzoic acid, the Grignard reagent
was 2 methylphenylmagnesium bromide, and the unknown bromide solution was 2
methylbromobenzene. Calculations showed that the limiting reagent of the Grignard preparation was
magnesium and that the experiment had a 23.13 % yield. 7. Discussion and Conclusion
Organometallic compounds, such as Grignard reagents, are molecules containing carbon metal bonds
and are often used to create new carbon carbon bonds. Grignard reagents or organomagnesims are
specifically those that have a carbon magnesium bond.

Reflection Paper On Golf Carts
As a teenager, hearing our parents tell us no to doing something enjoyable due to it being unsafe is a
huge heartbreaker . We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing.
January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We
should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold
winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my
morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My
grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my
family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house
around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I
found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should
have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it
too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball
drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told
us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what
our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to
find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My
cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin
Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster
than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea
to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and
Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. Hannah ended up
getting lucky, only her ankle was caught under a metal bar and she was able to easily get out. On the

Essay on Apache Indians
Apache Prisoners of War
The Chiricahuas, who were once one of the most feared Native American tribes of the southwest,
became prisoners of war by the United States for a period of twenty seven years. This period of time
was the longest captivity a Native American tribe had ever been imprisoned. The Chiricahuas
imprisonment began in 1886, when the United States Army transported four hundred Native
Americans from San Carlos and Fort Apache reservations to army posts in Florida (Davis). By 1887,
the bulk of the Chiricahuas had been transported to the Mount Vernon barracks in Alabama, and the
rest of the dislocated band of Chiricahuas, including the now famous Geronimo were reunited by 1888
(Davis). During the period of 1887 1894 the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
General Crook relied heavily on Chiricahuas turned into scouts since no white man could ever track
the elusive Geronimo in his own land. Chiricahua scouts then spread rumors of a possible arrest of
Geronimo, which then convinced the proud but, weary leader to turn him into authorities. General
Crook had since resigned and his replacement, General Nelson Miles, finally captured the great
Geronimo (Davis). General Miles had promised the great leader that all the Chiricahua families would
be imprisoned together to further reduce the risk for more conflict. Miles then took it a step further
and suggested to the Secretary of War, William C. Endicott, to imprison the Chiricahua scouts that had
helped to capture Geronimo, for fear that the former scouts could not be trusted. Geronimo was
separated from his family and sent to live at Fort Pickens. The seventeen other families that were
hiding with him at the time of his surrender were sent to live at Fort Marion, where disease and lack of
nutrition were a huge fallacy for life in that area (Davis). By April 1887, a formal report of these
conditions were published that convinced President Cleveland and the war department to move the
Chiricahuas to the Mount Vernon Barracks.
The first Chiricahuas to arrive from Fort Marion, to Mount Vernon, set up camp in the forest right
outside the barrack s twelve foot brick walls. The prisoners were not actually imprisoned in a cell but
were allowed to move freely

Analysis Of Red Sorghum
Red Sorghum, is a novel that was published in 1986 written by Mo Yan. It was Yan s first novel.
Lyrical, colorful, and disturbing, Red Sorghum is a powerful novel that takes place during one of the
darkest periods of Chinese history, which is the Japanese invasion of the 1930 s. With that being said,
within this novel Mo Yan does not shy away from graphic accounts of mercilessness and death. Mo
Yan, is an exceptionally talented story teller who cherishes portraying life in vivid and clear contrasts.
The novel is composed of the chapters: Red Sorghum, Sorghum Wine, Dog Ways, Sorghum Funeral,
and Strange Death. This 4 chapter novel traverses 40 years throughout rural China utilizing flashbacks
and anticipating, starting with the Japanese attack in the 1930s. Sorghum which is utilized as food and
as an ingredient of a powerful wine, had been the concentration and representation of peasant life
during the time where war was not in affect. In wartime, it moves toward becoming intertwined with
the struggle for life. Death permeates this novel, death severely prevalent with Japanese troops, by
factions within China, by crazed dog and death from things such as suicide and starvation. Red
Sorghum is a multi generational story of a family in Shandong. The narrator recounts the story of his
family s troubles and hardships which ranges from distillery workers creating sorghum wine to battles
amid the Sino Japanese War. Yan shy s away from chronology within the story, instead, he lets

Setting, Circumstances, And Background Of The Censors
I chose to write about the setting, circumstances, and background of the Censors. This story is written
by Luisa Valenzuela. In this story, she depicts a young man writing to his love. Knowing that the mail

wrote his words very cautiously. The man wanted his letter to be sent very badly, so he signed up to
become one of the censors. He moved up ranks until he finally saw his letter. Newly loyal to his job,
he turned himself in for what he wrote. His actions against his original wishes lead to his death. This

Those who opposed him would be arrested, some tortured, even some killed. He closed their press,
took their leaders and persecuted many of them, others being exiled. This is part of what I feel the

term, Perón was ousted from Argentina and placed into exile. He spent his exile in Paraguay first, then
Venezuela, Panama, and the Dominican Republic before settling in Spain. Meanwhile, in Argentina,

think tradition is always good, but sometimes traditions are bad. Shirley Jackson uses different literary
devices such as foreshadowing, irony, and tone. Shirley Jackson uses foreshadowing in her story. The
Lottery is a bad thing because people get killed. When you hear the phase the lottery you think good

Some Muslim women believe that although the principles of modesty are clearly outlined in the Qu
ran, they perceive the wearing of the headscarf as a cultural interpretation of these scriptures. These
women sometimes believe that the values espoused by the wearing of the headscarf can be achieved in
other ways. Some women believe that while the hijab allowed women in the past to engage in public
society without garnering attention, the headscarf in contemporary Western society brings more
attention to women and is thus contradictory to its original purpose. Others believe that the hijab and
other external practices have become inappropriately central to the practice of Islam, and instead
choose to focus on their internal and spiritual relationship with God.While some women might choose

Alice Walker, the author of The Flowers, wrote this story to the African Americans to remind them of
historic sacrifices that were made to better future lives. In the story we see the main character, Myop,
on a journey as she loses her innocence when she comes across the skeleton of a dead man. Walker
uses a historical lens, and helps the reader remember the tragic, violent events of the 1920s. Through
the use of the audience, structure, tone, symbolism, and allusion Walker is able to further prove that
this story is a historical lens. Walker wrote this story for the African American community and it
reminds them of the awful historical events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the story Walker sets a peaceful, content, and even carefree tone, but then it
suddenly changes to an eerie or depressing type of tone. The shift from being cheery to dismal sucks
the reader in, it hooks the reader and makes them feel and contemplate the story. She felt light and
good in the warm sun. (Walker) Through the description of how Myop felt towards the beginning and
describing her innocence helps set the tone for the beginning, but once Myop wanders further into the
woods away from the comfort of her home everything changes. ...the strangeness of the land made it
not as pleasant as her usual haunts. It seemed gloomy in the little cove...The air was damp, the silence
was close and deep. (Paragraph 5) The words that aid in describing the changing atmosphere Myop
encountered assists in reminding the audience. Right before Myop steps on the man she is caught in an
eerie or strange atmosphere and attempts to go back to the easy going environment of the morning,
which is seen through the shifts in tone. This helps the reader feel and understand what Myop felt and
helps them remember the many sacrifices made. Walker also uses symbolism to help inform the
audience of the prices once

Conducting A Norm Experiment
In today s society, norms are expected by everyone. According to the book Essentials of Sociology a
Down To Earth Approach, Hansen states that norms are expectations of right behavior (Hansen, 2014).
There are also two forms of norms that may be strictly enforced or not. There is folkways and mores.
Folkways are norms that aren t strictly enforced while mores are strictly enforced for essential thought
to care values or the well being of a group (Hansen, 2014). Along with a norm and the two types, there
may also be reactions to it. These reactions may be positive or negative and termed as sanctions.
Sanctions are either expressions of an approval given to people for upholding norms or expression of
disapproval for violating them (Hansen, 2014). In conducting a norm experiment, the terms were put
to a test. The experiment consisted of an observed norm violation and an individual norm violation.
The experiments resulted in what I had hypothesized. My hypothesis consisted of sanctions of the
norms that were conducted.
In the observe norm violation experiment, it was concluded to result in negative sanction. The
experiment consisted of a friend of mine and I ordering our lunch at In n Out. It was my friend, Denise
s turn to order her meal. Denise ordered a double double with no cheese, no thousand island spread, a
single patty and only onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. The employee looked at her in a dumbfound
manner and confirmed her ordered as a hamburger. Denise was not

The Year Education Act Defines A Child As Having Special...
The 1996 Education Act defines a child as having special educational needs (SEN) when they have a
learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them (section 312).
This involves those who have greater difficulty learning and/or disabilities that prevent them from
accessing educational facilities. This represents approximately 15.4% of pupils in schools in England
(Department of Education, 2015). A key question that surrounds this area is whether it is better for
these children to be included in mainstream schooling or whether they should be excluded (Warnock
Norwich, 2010). However this is not a straightforward issue, there are wider needs, like social class,
that the classification of SEN often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each field has its own doxa individual rules and conventions that one can then adopt (often
unknowingly). According to the doxa, each person can be ascribed their legitimate position within the
field (Bourdieu Eagleton, 1992). This can contribute to the habitus . At its simplest, habitus is who we
are our internalised dispositions and practices which we act according to (Thomas Loxley, 2007). The
habitus expresses itself in all situations of life, from bodily movements to conscious thoughts (Webb,
Schirato, Danaher, 2002). These three concepts are mutually constituted and are what subsequently
brings about inequalities. According to Bourdieu (1977), school s act as a social selector, they favour
particular cultural capitals. He called this reproduction where a child s habitus fits with the doxa of a
school, they have an advantage and are able to engage with school easier (Bourdieu Passeron, 1977),
whilst excluding others, like SEN pupils.
According to Bernstein (1973), social inequalities are transmitted through schools. He noted a clear
communication difference between working and middle class children, which is then echoed in
schools. Schools (often implicitly) adopt an educational code which effects everything from teacher
student interactions to the teacher s control over learning. Bernstein (1971) distinguished between two
types of code used

Assist Developmental Playgroup Staff For Children With...
entifying the information Friday October 30, 2015, I was able to assist Developmental Playgroup staff
in caring for children while their parents attended a weekly Health Education and Literacy information
session/class. There were a number of seven children present. Two children under the age of one, three
children who are one and a half years of age, two children who were two and half years old, and an
older child around the age of five. To care for the seven children, there were three staff members and a
student intern (me).

Initial observations of the client The Playgroup room was created in order to address all areas in which
a child develops, so the physical climate is stimulating for children to find interests in toys that they
have been exposed to. The setup of the room caters to the child s reading, imaginative play, gross
motor skills, fine motor skills, skill building, and sensory. This weekly group of children is generally
small; they require a lot of attention since some children are so young and have not begun to walk,
multiple children who are very active, a few of the children have a harder time with being away from
their parents, and all of the children uses English as their second language. Focusing on one mother
and her one and a half year old daughter, the initial observation of the two is their close attachment to
one another. The mother and child are not separated often which creates some anxiety in the child
when the mother chooses to leave.
Content of the session On this particular day, the child had experienced a very rough time seeing her
mother leave. The mother washed her child s hands and guided her to a toy which challenges a child s
sensory processing and fine motor skills, molding and cutting Play Doh. I began to work with the
mother and child, so that she could have an easier transition when her mother decided to leave. We
began to mold and cut the Play Doh, the mother tells her child I will be back, I love you, and the child
immediately breaks down.

Amendments To The United States Constitution
Amendments to the United States Constitution are rare, there have only been 27 that is upheld in the
200 year of American history and with the last of being passed over 20 years ago. And There s never
been one that has been ratified to the states legislator, but would 2016 election this could change with
the GOP what is state shot of two thirds majority. With this kind of Power ideas can be placed into the
Constitution with less resistance then years passed. It s much easier to have a federal law passed only
needing a 50% agreement amongst legislator to have it put to a vote and passed with a two thirds
agreement. But now that GOP is majority of the legislative they can make and ideas stick. And What I

Imprisonment In Corrections
The American justice system is always changing due to societal evolution and updates to laws, the
correctional system has gone through drastic, but necessary changes over the past couple of decades.
Living conditions and medical care in correctional institutions, and the lack thereof has been a topic of
discussion throughout both government and public spaces. Criminal activity has been a constant
globally, it is unavoidable, and it has progressively gotten worse with all the technological advances.
New concepts and alternative methods of confinement, treatments, and rehabilitation have been
introduced to the correctional system to better protect the public and inmates.
Imprisonment is a newer concept, retaliation, torture, death, and fines were more common ways of
punishment hundreds of years ago, the offender had little to no rights. Retribution and deterrence were
the focus of punishment, the type of crime committed would determine what kind of method would be
used to make an offender suffer their consequences. Corporal punishment included, mutilation,

Similarities Between Constantine The Great And Qin Shihuangdi
Constantine was called Constantine the Great and Qin Shihuangdi was the emperor of the Qin
dynasty; each of these men was leaders of their country and each is similar and as much as they may
be similar in their title s they were different. Constantine the Great was a man that lead an empire that
persecuted Christians, which he later put an end to the persecution of Christians. Qin Shihuangdi was
a leader in his country, he had interests in magic, he dished out cruel punishments, ruled with strict
laws, and was believed to have created shrewd military policies. Each of these leaders was seen as
good leaders, however, they did use harsh methods to control their people and rule their country. A
tomb for Qin Shihuangdi was constructed, which had terracotta soldiers and horses to protect his tomb
(Hoh, 2001, p. 35). Constantine I, upon his death was buried in Constantinople (Freeman, 2001, p. 1).

Envy In Arabian Nights Essay
Envy in the Arabian Nights is a free floating passion in which characters desiring to have a quality or
desirable attribute of another occur both arbitrarily without justification and with reason. To start with,
envy occurs in the Tale of The Ox and The Donkey. In the story we learn about a merchant who
understands the language of the animals. One day the merchant overhears a conversation between his
donkey and his ox. The ox complains about how he toils arduously. He works the fields from daylight
to dusk, eats dry beans and bad straw and to make matters worse sleeps in his own dung. On the other
hand, the donkey remains idle throughout the say except when he occasionally carries the merchant,
eats fresh corn, and rests pleasantly. Through

Francis Ford Coppola, The Visionary Director Of The...
Francis Ford Coppola is the visionary director of the Godfather. He is credited with transforming the
entire cinema industry. Joss Whedon is the not so visionary director of Avengers Age of Ultron.
Whedon recently compared himself to Coppola when he said: I tried to make age of Ultron in a
similar style to Godfather. The mix of action and drama has a perfect balance I want to strike in my
film. Well I can tell you now Joss that you failed. Cutting every 2 seconds so the audience doesn t
notice the CGI in no way compares to Coppola s subtlety and tension. If Joss Whedon is the new
Francis Ford Coppola, then the movie industry must be in major trouble right? Wrong, in fact it is
booming. And bad directors like Joss Whedon are not just making terrible films. They are polluting
our cinemas with rip offs, remakes and reboots. Hollywood no longer seems to care about making
good movies. They are money driven, bloated and stale. We need to demand more of the movie
industry to stop it churning out these unoriginal films.

Cultural Impact On The Organization
The ways in which leaders embed and transmit culture in both organizations are very different and
have a substantial cultural impact on each site. Stein (2010) gives six primary mechanisms for
embedding culture and six secondary mechanisms for embedding culture. Before reading Schein the
focus was mostly on the, feel of the organization but not how the culture was created and impacted by
the leader.
Schein (2010, p. 237) points out that, The most powerful mechanisms that founders, leaders,
managers, and parents have available for communicating what they believe in or care about is what
they systematically pay attention to. At the network level, the attention was mostly placed on
compliance. We consistently received reminders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communication was not ongoing and was mostly limited to critical incidents or compliant PPO or
Quality review visits. The culture was to stay out of trouble and stay under the radar. If a school did
have an issue that warranted to the superintendents attention the consequence was usually extreme.
The over all goal of a principal in this district was not to solve problems but keep them from
surfacing. During the study the leadership has changed and there has ben a shift in the culture. The
current superintendent sends consistent e mails requesting good news from all schools to share at CEC
meetings. She often sends e mails sharing what is going well in schools and highlights. At
superintendent meetings with principals which did not occur under the prior leadership principals are
asked to present effective practices in their schools. Her attention is focused on what schools are doing
well which encourages schools to share best practices and build the entire school district community.
The reward may be a verbal shout out , e mail or the ability to share out in a meeting in both the
network or district structure but even these small acts have a large impact on culture as Schein (2010,
p. 237) explains, It is consistency that is important, not the intensity of the attention.
What leaders pay attention to directly correlates to how leaders allocate rewards and status. In the

The Movies That Rose From The Grave By Max Brooks
In the modern movie genre, horror movies accounts for very great proportion of the number of
followers. Relevantly, the zombie film genre has been developed into a dominant part of mainstream
horror, replacing the previous monster such as vampires and werewolves. In Max Brooks s essay The
Movies That Rose From the Grave , he offers his opinion that throughout the process of zombie film
transformation, it increasingly captivates viewers while gradually generates the modern horror. Brooks
s essay should be an appropriate inclusion of a college textbook which explains the phenomenon of
the undead explosion in various kinds of media, proving to the audiences with enthusiasm, interest,
credibility and specific examples that zombie culture is resurrecting a formerly obsolete genre.
Reading through the whole essay, there are many appealing strategies found in order to strengthen the
essay academically. Brooks attracts the audience with a pathos style strategy, giving specific movie
examples to straighten up the essay. The movie Night of the Living Dead resonates the viewers with
an image of a flesh eating and harmful zombie figure instead of a harmless voodoo created zombie,
which makes the notion of zombies transformed into a horrifying figure, provoking the sense of fear
of audience with emotional appeal. The revolutionary creation of zombie film was led by George A.

Alcohol Advertisements Affecting Young People
Excessive alcohol consumption is a growing health issue that is affecting young people all throughout
Australia. Some experts believe that the main reason for excessive alcohol consumption is due to the
fact that alcohol advertising are targeting young people during sports, while other experts disagree
entirely. Excessive alcohol consumption can be very damaging to human beings as when consumed,
the alcohol goes through the bloodstream which then can lead the alcohol to anywhere in the body.
Alcohol is a depressant, meaning that it slows the body s functional ability to complete a task. It slows
down the brain s activity, and depending on how fast they drink, or what they are drinking, it results in
the person having slower reaction times, poor memory, slurred speech, mood swings and more. The
effects of the symptoms are proportional to the blood alcohol concentration levels in your body. So the
more blood alcohol concentration you have, the slower your brain will function for example. ... Show

Lulu Ullali Bevay Summary
Lulu Ulali Bevay was 36 years old when her standard Western doctor had prescribed her
pharmaceutical medicine. Rather than filling her prescription, Lulu had turned to her traditional
medical beliefs and sought relief through her Cherokee roots. In accordance with her native beliefs,
removing all negative energies will consequently make her healthy. Therefore, she believed natural
remedies were the answer to her ailments, leading her to go through a Cherokee purification
ceremony. In comparison to Western medicine, natural remedies are a common practice among Native
Americans; though with hundreds of native tribes currently residing in the United States, beliefs,
customs, and overall subcultures vary in many ways.
Nevertheless, certain traditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adding to the conversation, academic scholar Daniel Carlock notes, health disparities between Native
Americans and the general population of the United States are a major health concern (Carlock,
Danielle). Hence, an inherent culturally based issue arises where natives are disregarding modern
medicine and Western medical practices and instead turning to a traditional holistic approach.
Alternative to standard science being the leading factor towards understanding illness and medicine, a
cultural barrier divides indigenous peoples perception of the effectiveness of Western science in
regards to traditional beliefs. This creates much difficulty for the U.S. government agency the Indian
Health Service providing health care and assistance to federally recognized tribes and indigenous
peoples. Commenting on Native American health discrepancies, professor James E. Cheek finds the
infectious disease rate in Native Americans populations was significantly higher than that of Whites
(Cheek, James E). This connects Native American cultural beliefs to an increase in medical disparities
in relationship to following standard Western medical practices. With tradition ingrained in Native
American culture, indigenous medical practices fail to focus on pathology and curing the disease,
instead restoring balance between one s mind, body, and spirit is the focus of natives. Consequently,
this is leading to standard Western medical practices and medicine being disregarded because Western
culture in terms of medicine has been seen to impede important native spirituality beliefs. The rates
for the top ten underlying causes of death were significantly higher for Native American persons than
those for whites (Cheek, James E). This study accounts for the disparities in regards to

History and Philosophy of Science
The world of science, as we know it today, is a difficult subject to grasp. So many new ideas are
present and these new ideas are not interchangeable. Some parts do work together although as a whole
they don t fully coincide with each other. The three basic ideas that science is now based upon come
from Newton, Einstein, and Hawking. I call these ideas/theories new based on what I classify the state
of the scientific community of today. After looking at what is going on in science, it is clear to me that
the scientific world is in a crisis state. According to Kuhn, a crisis state is when science is in the

Newton had given the world what we now know as physics. For the past three hundred years
Newtonian Mechanics have been taught to every student aspiring to elevate their minds. Newtonian
Mechanics were the end all to the questions that had plagued thinkers since the beginning of time. The
key difference is that Newton was never exposed to the world of science that technology had made
prevalent to the likes of an Einstein or Hawking, or even my colleague studying neuro surgery at John
s Hopkins University. When Newton was sitting under his apple tree conjuring up ideas for how and
why he did not fly off into space or why the harder you hit something the farther it goes, technology
was moving along at the rate of most people s grandmothers in their walkers. The scientists that had
surrounded Newton knew only of what they could see. Their were no people looking to the far ends of
the galaxies and their were no people looking in to the unseen cells that make up everything that we
can see. Basically, Newton did not have a reason to explain what he was not aware of. He did have
quite good reason, however, to explain why he got a bump on his head from that ripe apple that no
longer needed the shelter of the tree. According to Shlain, Newton set the world he knew to mechanics
and set the parameters for the new and final, well what was thought to be the final paradigm of the
world. Then in 1905,

How Muscle Growth Affects Your Body After Weight Training...
Have you always wondered if there s a less time consuming way that you can build muscle, yet still
gives you the results you would get if you worked out daily in the gym? It s not exactly easy, but it is
possible. By varying the intensity of your exercise session and taking a nice recovery period after, you
ll see that you can build your muscles with less effort and become stronger. Many studies have been
done on muscle growth. Much of that research points to the theory that you need to rest your body
after weight training in order to build muscles more effectively. It s also been said that muscles can
continue to adjust to their new growth and strength for time periods as high as 21 days after the last
workout. It s been noted by some fitness buffs that they could reduce their exercise time by two thirds
and still achieve the same amount of muscle growth that they otherwise would have noticed with
everyday workouts. Many fitness enthusiasts are spending way too much time working out, which
means their muscles don t have time to recover. This is unhealthy for muscle growth for your body.
Working out too much can actually damage your health and hamper your muscle building efforts. You
may find yourself suffering from a weaker immune system. You might also get sick or injured easily.
So how to you determine how long you should let your muscles recover after a workout? When you
have intense workouts, remember that your muscles take four to seven days to fully recover.

a fruitful example: Mahasweta is an intensive and a social alert writer who showcases the rural
realities as well as a broad narrative of the importance of the unprivileged or the people living on the
extreme. While Mahasweta originally written in her native Bengali language, most of her works are
translated into English and regional Indian languages. The credit for translating her works into English
for the first time goes to Gayatri Spivak, who had translated Mahasweta s Draupadi in 1981 and

by other scholarly translators, and until now about a dozen translators have translated Mahasweta s
stories into English, among whom the foremost are Spivak and Bandyopadhyay. Mahasweta claims on
translators capturing the spirit of her work, which to her is more important than technical or even
artistic perfection and she readily authorizes those translations of her fiction that have been faithful to
the spirit of her fiction. A very important aspect of Mahasweta s text is spontaneity and capturing of

The Negative Aspects Of Living In A Disposable Society
It is a fact that disposable society is beneficial to a country since it can lead to innovation which

negative aspects of living in a disposable society? According to one author, Throwing away... may

social problems. If people live in a disposable society, they will find it a curse because they will face
cost problems. In particular, individuals are unfortunate to live in a consumerist society since they will
have expenditure problems. First of all, people decrease their cell phone life cycle as they replace their

The Influence Of Political Parties In The United States
At first, the constitution was for a non partisan president because it was intended to play the leading
institutional role in checking and controlling violence of faction that the framers feared would rend the

United States is nominated by a party (Nelson, 296). The understanding of a solid relation between a
president and his party began to be understood and was implemented in the political parties that

addition to this, George W. Bush and Barack Obama are considered to threaten the integrity of

How Did Mark Twain Mature
Mark Twain
You may know him as Mark Twain, but his parents John and Jane referred to him by his birth name
Samuel L. Clemens. Samuel was a well known American humorist, journalist, lecturer, and novelist.
Samuel wasn t known to laugh or smile much, for reasons that will be presented. He was and is most
commonly recognized for his best selling novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn. Samuel learned to take responsibility early on in his life, which helped immensely
to mature him for the success that was to come.
Clemens was born November 30th, 1835 in a tiny village in Florida, Missouri. In 1839, his family s
economic distress resulted in their move to Hannibal, Missouri, where they hoped for greater
opportunities to make more money. His father became a judge and still his debts accumulated. For the

Rudyard Kipling
The Legendary Life of Rudyard Kipling Rudyard Kipling was one of the greatest writers of all time.
He was a gifted writer and a huge celebrity, and has provided us with countless writings that will
continue to be enjoyed by future generations. There are two perspectives when it comes to Kipling s
canonization; those that believe based solely on his writing abilities think he should be canonized, and
those who saw him as an only an outspoken political figure do not. The questions surrounding his use
of a swastika show him to be a possible Nazi sympathizer and curve his support of canonization. The
purpose of this research paper is to provide the insight and the facts to support the stature of his
writing abilities, and to prove that on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They settled on the Balestier estate near Brattleboro, Vermont, in the United States, and began four of
the happiest years of Kipling s life. During this time he wrote some of his best work. (Advameg) They
soon had his first child, Josephine, who inspired him to write some of his most renowned children s
literature. The Jungle Book and Rikki Tikki Tavi were by far his most popular works and are still read
by children today. The Jungle Book, published in 1892, was eventually made into a movie in 1942,
and animated by Disney in the 1960 s (Liukkonen). It is still quite a popular story among children
today. The fascination of talking animals and a lost boy s adventures still exists today. By the time he
was 32, he was the highest paid novelist in the world. Some people relate Kipling with the swastika.
Kipling occasionally used the defamed symbol on the bindings and covers of his books. These people
view this as Kipling being a Nazi sympathizer. This does not seem to be the case. The pre Nazi
Swastika was a Hindu symbol of good luck, which he learned through his father s knowledge of
Indian art, but the suspicion still remains to this day. (Walker) While in the United States, Josephine
and Kipling both contracted pneumonia. Caroline was unable to watch after them both and was forced
to care for only one of them. She chose to take Josephine to a nearby neighbor s house to be nursed

Authority Is A Fundamental Part Of Life Essay
Authority is a fundamental part of life. It is utilized in both micro and macro ways, such as it being
used in a particular group of individuals or a mass society. In order for society to function, some
aspect of authority is required. Police officers use authority to maintain order and obedience
throughout communities. Parents possess characteristics of authority in order to teach children right
from wrong. As well as, teachers are considered authority figures since they need to control and
maintain obedience in the classroom.
Authority cannot exist without obedience. Society is developed on this notion. Without authority, and
its required obedience, disorder and disruption would occur. But how much obedience to authority is
necessary? When is it too much or too little? Authority figures hold such power, that it quite often
becomes abused. We can relate back to these questions by looking into the novel, Crimes of Power
and States of Impunity , and connecting it with the element of the chain of command. Often, higher
authority individuals abuse their powers, just like those involved in the scandal at Abu Ghraib. The
American Soldiers were ambiguously declaring to torture, punish, interrogate, and harm the inmates
prior to interrogation. Yet, these soldiers were following the commands of their higher authorities, that
exactly being the United States of America. Obeying the authority can sometimes be perilous,
especially, when one s morals are disrupted. When you are

Valley Of The Kings Essay
The Valley of the Kings is a valley in Luxor, Egypt, built by the Ancient Egyptians. These tombs
houses many of the kings and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom. Ancient Egyptians are known
conserving and protecting the bodies of their kings. In order to conserve their kings, queens, and
nobles the people built the solid rock tombs of the Valley of the Kings. It is believed in the ancient
Egyptian mythology that the dead should be buried in a place that could connect between this life and
the underworld, the world of the dead. This is the place where the transformation and regeneration of
the king will take place. The location of the Valley of the Kings is perfect for this purpose. It also
offers an excellent environment for mummification. In order for dressed pharaohs to get to the
underworld a number of text were written on the walls of his or her tomb such as excerpts from the
Book of That Which Is in the Underworld, , the Book of Gates, , Book of Day ,the Book of Night, as
well as the Book of the Heavenly Cow, All the tombs in the valley were cleared out in antiquity.
Today, the Valley is most famous throughout the world as the burial place of the great New Kingdom
pharaohs

Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Violence
According to news.northwestern.edu, domestic violence occurs at least as frequently, and likely even
more so, between same sex couples compared to opposite sex couples. However, why is this issue
understudy? Why is the print media or digital media not showing or focusing on this issue as much as
hetersexual couples? As a country we have come a long way, since Obama have passed the same sex
marriage law, the LGBTQ commmunity has gone upwards as an American citizens. On the other
hand, the criminal justice system seems put the LGBTQ community backwards instead of forward.
There is huge amount of same sex violence in between intimate partner. Some are underreported by
the police department, and some same sex couples do not report the abuse at all. It sad to see this
discrimination and the lack of importance in these issue played out in America. Unfortunately, if this
issue continues in a cycle, it may results in heinous crimes that we may or may not see in the news, It
will just be another statistics in America eyes. There are different issues and circumstances when it
becomes to intimate partner violence in same sex couple that explained why they are excluded. For,
one it is gendered roles, Gendered roles has played a huge part in same sex violence. The different
circumstances and labels between lesbian and gay couple are astoundingly. It helps to look at the real
issue from both perspectives instead of putting them together as one. Studies report show that between

The Impact of Bloody Sunday on Northern Ireland Essay
The Impact of Bloody Sunday on Northern Ireland
Bloody Sunday has made a very big impact on Irelandand events occurring there since 1972.
According to Lord Widgery, the soldiers acted in self defence, therefore it was not their fault and
could not be blamed.
Republicans were very annoyed by this verdict, so in 1998 a new inquiry was started called The
Saville Inquiry . The inquiry has so far cost £130m. The final cost will be in the region of £150m.
An estimated £15 million of net additional costs arose from the transfer of the hearings to London
from Londonderry. The point of this inquiry was to re examine the evidence of what happened on
Bloody Sunday. There is an ongoing debate about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Protestants were suspicious of the Civil Rights Movement. They suspected the IRA may be
involved. The Unionists got the RUC to stop one of their marches and this led to serious rioting. In the
end the British troops were sent over to Northern Ireland to try and keep order.
The IRA split into two groups; The official IRA who wanted to achieve a United Ireland, and the
Provisional IRA who thought of the British Army as an army of occupation and believed violence was
the answer and would achieve their goal.
The Provisional IRA shot Gunner Curtis. He was the first British soldier to be killed in the Northern
Ireland.
The Civil Rights Movement planned a march in Londonderry. British troops fired into the crowd and
killed thirteen people! This day became famously known as Bloody Sunday . After this, Northern
Ireland lost its parliament.
Loyalist fears:
The Catholics in Northern Ireland had a lot of reasons to make them feel displeased. The Protestants
made their lives very miserable, mainly I think because they felt very apprehensive of them. They
were afraid that in a United Ireland Catholics would outvote them and they would lose control over

My Personal Worldview
In my personal opinion, a worldview consists of the sum total of an individual s perspectives on the
relationships between the sphere of their own personal experiences and the sphere of the variables of
the world which lie outside their own control. A worldview could be defined as an ideology or religion
in a narrow sense, but it encompasses more aspects of a person s relationships to the outside world
than a simple ideological path. My personal worldview is that the universe is very large and very
confusing. I am not partial to any explanation for our existence here on the earth, but I do not hold any
of these viewpoints to be superior or inferior to one another. I am agnostic, but I do not discount
Christianity or creationism as idiotic .

The yellow bus slowly came to a stop. Tom got off of the bus. Pressed the button to call up to his mom, Hi, mom Hey, you can come up. The key is under the rug, his mom said. He walked through the passageway. He came upon a courtyard with some old tables and chairs. He walked into his building. Then he jogged up the stairs with his books. • 3. James Truslow Adams The American Dream James Truslow Adams in 1931 coined the term The American Dream in his book The Epic of America (Michels, n.d., para. 1). He wrote of an America that offered freedom of religion, and speech, as well as political and social opportunities that few other countries offered. However, according to Eva Michels, The American Dream means something different for each individual, it refers to the way of life that Americans strive for and have equal rights to achieve regardless of social class or nationality (n.d., para. 4). She goes on to write that for some this dream can mean opportunities and equality, while for others it can mean materialism and gained wealth (Michels, n.d., para. 6). On the other hand, there is a notion that The American Dream is free for the taking for anyone who desires wealth and freedom. Robert A. Heinlein once, quickly rejected this notion saying, Nothing of value is free. Even the breath of life is purchased at birth only through gasping effort and pain (n.d., n.p.). Immigrants have been attracted to the opportunities of American life since 1607 when colonists created the first settlement in Jamestown, since then people have migrated to America for many reasons. These immigrants have entered the country expecting that these freedoms and The American Dream are free creating an out of control immigration problem. As more and more people have immigrated, crime, drugs, and negative economic consequences have resulted. The American government needs to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shakespeare repeats these themes to set the mood through his works. It is important for Shakespeare to be consistent with his themes, or the plays would lose their meaning and mood. All of these themes are present in Othello, but the most dominant is the theme of jealousy, which presents itself multiple times throughout the play. We see the kind of jealousy which is envy of what others have, and as the kind of which is fear of losing what we have. According to The New Lexicon Webster s Encyclopedic Dictionary of the English Language, jealousy is a state of fear, suspicion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Cassio stabs Governor Montano as he tried to hold Cassio down, Iago sent Roderigo to raise alarm in the town. Othello arrives and strips Cassio of his rank of lieutenant. Roderigo thought this plan was for him to get rid of Cassio so he would win over Desdemona, but really it was for selfish Iago. Iago knew Cassio could not control his liquor and would do something bad enough to lose his title, the title Iago was jealous that he did not have. • 5. Dbq Era of Good Feeling Ap Us History Essay The period after the war of 1812 was labeled The Era of Good Feeling by historians. Some people believe that this is an accurate label of this time period, but others disagree. Due to the emergence of sectionalism concern with local interests, and nationalism patriotic feelings and self pride, people had mixed feelings about this time period. Many people felt that times were high, and that nationalism and sectionalism could only bolster the union, while others thought that it was sectionalism and nationalism that caused disunion. Some of the documents used in this essay support the claim that the period after 1812 was an era of good feelings. Other documents will oppose this claim with proof from their own perspectives. Document B ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Doc. D). The case says that it would be difficult to sustain this proposition. Anna Hayes Johnson of South Carolina wrote to her cousin in North Carolina complaining about the unhappy business which has filled with consternation all our city and how nothing can save them. She writes that fifty to sixty percent of the leaders are in jail, and twenty of them have been convicted and sentenced. (Doc. G). The people living during this time period do not seem to think as highly of it as the people discussed in the previous paragraph did. Documents E and I both portray different feelings about this era. Document H is a political map that exemplifies sectionalism perfectly. During the presidential election of 1820, James Monroe won every vote but one, but in 1824, the votes were split up between four different candidates, and the results were just as varied. Each state had its own mind and voted for who they felt was right, and not just as one union. Document E is a density map that shows how populated each square mile of land was in 1820. Much of the land had less than two inhabitants per square mile, and the people living there felt that they shouldn t be taxed the same as somewhere where there were ninety or more inhabitants like in the northeast. This is a prime example of people who did not think this was The Era of Good Feeling. The Era of Good Feeling is a label given to the time period ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The USould Adopt The Metric System The US should adopt the metric system. The US is one of three countries that still use the imperial system. Everybody else uses the metric system. We need to change to the metric system because of two factors, social and economic. There are many reasons why we need to change. Some of the reasons are conversion errors. Another reason is the metric system is easier to use. Though the metric system and the imperial system are quite different. The Imperial system use feet, inches, and pounds. The metric system use meters and grams and then it also adds prefixes. To be in more depth, foot is the unit of length, pound is the unit of weights, and seconds are the unit of time, for the Imperial system. For the metric system, meter is the basic unit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a lot of conversion errors because we use a different measurement system. For example, in 1999 NASA s Mars Orbiter spacecraft crash, costing them $125 million dollars. The project has been already $327.6 million. It should of been 140 150 km above Mars, but instead it was 57km above. Being so close to Mars s surface cause it to crash. This happened because one team of engineers used the imperial system and everybody else used the metric system. This supports my reason, because of one team using a different measurement system cost them millions of dollars. Another example is Tokyo Disney Space mountain. It shut down because an axle on it snapped. The bolt that was delivered was 31.75 millimeters, which was 19.25 millimeters too small. That happened because of a conversion error. This supports my reason because we used a different system they got the wrong sized bolt. My final reason is a passenger plane ran out of fuel about halfway to their destination. The fuel loading was miscalculated. There was 7,682 liters in the tank and they needed 22,300 kilograms. They added 4,916 liters and they needed 20,088 liters. This supports my reason, because they miscalculated they ran out of fuel. That s my main examples for the social factor. The social factor is not the only factor. Another main factor for the US to change to the metric system is economic. It s costing us money for not changing. For example any company that deals outside the US has to deal with conversions between the metric and the imperial systems. Even when they know how to switch the units, they still made errors. Those errors cost them money, and why are these errors happening can be contribute to learning the metric system at an early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Dosophila Larval Orn Experiment The major conclusion from this study is that individual Drosophila larval ORN s are differentially modulated by animal s starved state. We conclude this based on the following experimental evidence: First, when we tested the olfactory responses of Drosophila larvae under starved conditions, using the two choice assay (Monte, Woodard et al. 1989), (Kreher, Mathew et al. 2008) we observed changes in RI for only three out of the seven odorants tested. This experimental result supports previous work from Mathew et al., 2013, which demonstrated functional diversity among individual ORNs. Starved larvae had higher attractiveness to odorants acetal, pentyl acetate and 4, 5 dimethylthiazole. Each of these odorants elicit strong and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have observed that acetal, 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine had higher run speed and run length in case of non starved larvae while for pentyl acetate, the starved larvae had higher run speed and run length. As of now we cannot explain the reason for this reversed trend in the case of pentyl acetate. However, with the trends that we have observed for acetal and 2, 5 dimethylpyrazine we conclude that not all ORN s show similar tracking effect under starvation. Each ORN is functionally diverse and act as functionally non equivalent units. From our results, overall, we conclude that ORNs contribute differently to the olfactory circuit under changes in internal states such as starvation. These results further support previous studies regarding existence of functional individuality among neurons (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Starved state of the animal impacts olfactory behavior via GABA signaling As mentioned previously, local neurons secrete GABA and LN s are primarily GABAergic interneurons (Ng, Roorda et al. 2002). Olfactory receptor neurons express GABA (B) receptors (Root, Masuyama et al. 2008) and strikingly each ORN channel has unique baseline levels of GABA (B) receptor expression in adult flies (Root et al., 2008). • 10. An Unknown Grignard Reagent Experiment Essay Grignard 5. Introduction In this experiment, an unknown Grignard reagent was prepared from an aryl halide. The unknown reagent was then reacted with carbon dioxide to form a carboxylic acid. The solid acid was then isolated and recrystallized before the melting point was taken. The precipitate was then dissolved in water and titrated to determine the molecular weight. The melting point and molecular weight were then used to determine the unknown acid obtained from the experiment. 6. Data and Results The product obtained had a melting point of approximately 107 °C and a weight of .324 grams. Some of the product would not dissolve in water and so was removed through vacuum filtration, which left .141 g not dissolved in solution. It took 13.2 mL of sodium hydroxide to turn the solution of the product dissolved in water pink. A molecular weight of 138.63 g/mol was calculated from the data. These results indicate that the product was 2 methylbenzoic acid, the Grignard reagent was 2 methylphenylmagnesium bromide, and the unknown bromide solution was 2 methylbromobenzene. Calculations showed that the limiting reagent of the Grignard preparation was magnesium and that the experiment had a 23.13 % yield. 7. Discussion and Conclusion Organometallic compounds, such as Grignard reagents, are molecules containing carbon metal bonds and are often used to create new carbon carbon bonds. Grignard reagents or organomagnesims are specifically those that have a carbon magnesium bond. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Reflection Paper On Golf Carts As a teenager, hearing our parents tell us no to doing something enjoyable due to it being unsafe is a huge heartbreaker . We seem to think we are invincible and that our parents know absolutely nothing. January 1st of 2015, I learned that maybe, just maybe, our parents are actually looking out for us. We should probably listen to them when they tell us to not ride a golf cart at 1 A.M. on a freezing cold winter night. My day started off just as it usually does, I wake up and go straight to the kitchen for my morning cup of hot chocolate. I knew that this day was going to be fun, it was New Year s eve. My grandparents were having a family party that night. I have a very close relationship with all of my family so seeing everyone together again was extremely exciting. We got to my grandparents house around 7 P.M. Most of my family arrived earlier so, I went off to see what my cousins were doing. I found them in the backyard driving rampant on my grandfather s new golf cart. I probably should have taken this as a sign to not get on, but everyone else was doing it so I decided I should just do it too. Our parents eventually told us it was getting too late and to come inside. After watching the ball drop, My cousins and I decided to take my grandfather s golf cart for one more ride. Our parents told us that it was too late, too cold, and we shouldn t be going. We had the bright idea to go against what our parents had just told us and told them we were going outside to play basketball. We got outside to find that the keys were still in the ignition from the excitement we experienced earlier that day. My cousins, Blake and Hannah, got in the front seat while I got in the backseat along with my other cousin Hillary. We started our ride off with a trip down the driveway and quickly picked up speed, way faster than we expected. As we got towards the end of the driveway, Blake decided it would be a good idea to make a sharp left turn. This caused the golf cart to flip. As we were flipping, I could see Blake and Hillary jump off while Hannah and I were somehow thrown under the golf cart. This period of time was the longest captivity a Native American tribe had ever been imprisoned. The Chiricahuas imprisonment began in 1886, when the United States Army transported four hundred Native Americans from San Carlos and Fort Apache reservations to army posts in Florida (Davis). By 1887, the bulk of the Chiricahuas had been transported to the Mount Vernon barracks in Alabama, and the rest of the dislocated band of Chiricahuas, including the now famous Geronimo were reunited by 1888 (Davis). General Crook had since resigned and his replacement, General Nelson Miles, finally captured the great Geronimo (Davis). General Miles had promised the great leader that all the Chiricahua families would be imprisoned together to further reduce the risk for more conflict. Miles then took it a step further and suggested to the Secretary of War, William C. Geronimo was separated from his family and sent to live at Fort Pickens. The seventeen other families that were hiding with him at the time of his surrender were sent to live at Fort Marion, where disease and lack of nutrition were a huge fallacy for life in that area (Davis). According to the book Essentials of Sociology a Down To Earth Approach, Hansen states that norms are expectations of right behavior (Hansen, 2014). There are also two forms of norms that may be strictly enforced or not. There is folkways and mores. Folkways are norms that aren t strictly enforced while mores are strictly enforced for essential thought to care values or the well being of a group (Hansen, 2014). Along with a norm and the two types, there may also be reactions to it. These reactions may be positive or negative and termed as sanctions. Sanctions are either expressions of an approval given to people for upholding norms or expression of disapproval for violating them (Hansen, 2014). In conducting a norm experiment, the terms were put to a test. The experiment consisted of an observed norm violation and an individual norm violation. The experiments resulted in what I had hypothesized. My hypothesis consisted of sanctions of the norms that were conducted. In the observe norm violation experiment, it was concluded to result in negative sanction. The experiment consisted of a friend of mine and I ordering our lunch at In n Out. The 1996 Education Act defines a child as having special educational needs (SEN) when they have a learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision to be made for them (section 312). This involves those who have greater difficulty learning and/or disabilities that prevent them from accessing educational facilities. This represents approximately 15.4% of pupils in schools in England (Department of Education, 2015). A key question that surrounds this area is whether it is better for these children to be included in mainstream schooling or whether they should be excluded (Warnock Norwich, 2010). Each field has its own doxa individual rules and conventions that one can then adopt (often unknowingly). According to the doxa, each person can be ascribed their legitimate position within the field (Bourdieu Eagleton, 1992). This can contribute to the habitus . At its simplest, habitus is who we are our internalised dispositions and practices which we act according to (Thomas Loxley, 2007). The habitus expresses itself in all situations of life, from bodily movements to conscious thoughts (Webb, Schirato, Danaher, 2002). These three concepts are mutually constituted and are what subsequently brings about inequalities. According to Bourdieu (1977), school s act as a social selector, they favour particular cultural capitals. He called this reproduction where a child s habitus fits with the doxa of a school, they have an advantage and are able to engage with school easier (Bourdieu Passeron, 1977), whilst excluding others, like SEN pupils. According to Bernstein (1973), social inequalities are transmitted through schools. He noted a clear communication difference between working and middle class children, which is then echoed in schools. Some experts believe that the main reason for excessive alcohol consumption is due to the fact that alcohol advertising are targeting young people during sports, while other experts disagree entirely. Adding to the conversation, academic scholar Daniel Carlock notes, health disparities between Native Americans and the general population of the United States are a major health concern (Carlock, Danielle). Hence, an inherent culturally based issue arises where natives are disregarding modern medicine and Western medical practices and instead turning to a traditional holistic approach. Alternative to standard science being the leading factor towards understanding illness and medicine, a cultural barrier divides indigenous peoples perception of the effectiveness of Western science in regards to traditional beliefs. This creates much difficulty for the U.S. government agency the Indian Health Service providing health care and assistance to federally recognized tribes and indigenous peoples. Commenting on Native American health discrepancies, professor James E. With tradition ingrained in Native American culture, indigenous medical practices fail to focus on pathology and curing the disease, instead restoring balance between one s mind, body, and spirit is the focus of natives. Consequently, this is leading to standard Western medical practices and medicine being disregarded because Western culture in terms of medicine has been seen to impede important native spirituality beliefs.
