The Seated Scribe, By Egypt Fourth Dynasty Essay
The Seated Scribe The seated scribe is a sculpture made in 2500 B.C.E in Saqqara, Egypt fourth
dynasty. This piece of artwork can explain a lot about the society it came from which makes it
significant. In the following paragraphs I will address; what makes it unique? Who it was found by?
The impact this had on our understanding of the piece, and modern interpretations of Egyptian art.
First here s a description: The seated scribe is 1 9 high and is made from limestone; it s typical of an
Egyptian sculpture in that it s painted. He sits with perfect posture; cross legged, head facing forward,
hand ready to write although his brush is missing. His eyes are a complex structure (I will go into
further detail in page 3 paragraph 2). He wears a simple white cloth resembling what we might call a
skirt. What makes the sculpture different from others of this time period are two things; the subject
matter, in that it depicts no god, nor Pharaoh only a mortal human writing in a mostly illiterate society.
Secondly it demonstrates age shown in sagging muscles and rotund belly. Due to this relaxed style we
can gather that the subject is not a Pharaoh as it was dishonourable to insinuate that they aged as they
were supposed to be gods on earth. According to the Louvre website, (www.louvre.fr/en/oeuvre
notices/seated scribe) the sculpture was found in Saqqara Egypt in 1850 by an archaeologist by the
name of Auguste Mariette. The exact location of the Seated Scribe has remained a

The Philosophy Of Knowing And Learning
Knowing and learning can be interpreted in many different ways, but my philosophy of knowing and
learning is based on my understanding through the personal experience in the tutoring situation. As a
Tutor for students who were 9 years old, majority of the time was spent reading to develop their
English. An aspect that impacted the students learning progress tremendously was the tutor s
responsibility to understand the student s capability, needs and interest to support their learning
progress. When tutoring the students, there were some theories that were appropriate to aid the
students in reading and influenced the tutor s techniques employed to support the students learning.
The philosophers that influenced my tutoring techniques were Etienne Wenger, Jerome Bruner, Albert
Bandura, Ivan Pavlov, Burrhus Frederic Skinner, Jean Lave, Wolfgang Kohler and Lev Vygotsky.
Wenger s social theory believed that adding meaning and interest into an activity encourages learning
(Lave Wenger,1991). The Gestalt Approach influenced Kohler s idea where the student would need to
know the basic elements before being able to learn and acquire more knowledge (Phillips Soltis,
2009). To build up new ideas from the initial basic elements, Scaffolding by Bruner and Modelling by
Bandura were the two learning strategies utilized to support the student s learning (Nalliah Idris,
2014). The student is made aware that the new acquired skill or knowledge taught by Scaffolding and

Importance Of Public Speaking Speech
Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use public
speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement made me
nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any public
speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily forgotten
since my last speech class over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the process of making
my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the end, I managed to
produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I could be proud of.
When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be another
prerecorded session. I thought about how I could have sort of cheat the fundamentals of public
speaking by just doing retakes any time I messed up. But my luck ran out when it was changed to an
in class project where we would use our peers as an interview partner. I was glad that we have been
doing a few impromptu speeches up to this point. Without any sort of warm up beforehand it would
have been a far worse speech than it already was. After interviewing my partner, I thought I had
compiled enough information but I failed to transition it to a well organized speech. I took this as a
good wakeup call that I really needed to practice the basic of public speaking. After delivering my
speech I

Pompeii Triclinium
Within the historical context, a triclinium is a room in the Roman house with three couches for
dinning purpose. In Source A, the primary evidence of a triclinium in the House of the Cryptoporticus
suggests its provanace in Pompeii which may help an historian to identify and understand its fuction,
therefore highlighting the dinning aspect of people in Pompeii. The size, architecture and decor of the
triclinium demonstrate the key role that it played in displaying the wealth of the host. The triclinium
was often the largest and most sumptuous of the reception areas in the house. Complex architectural
designs such as an interior colonnade could make the room particularly luxurious. The walls of the
triclinium were often decorated with paintings done in fresco or in tempera or with mosaics. Though

The source being primary is reliable if an historian is focusing on the dining environment of a private
house and also helps to study about the social interactions among family members and the guests. The
corroboration with other archaeological sources such as Villa Murecine near Pompeii may help an
historian to recontruct the archtitecture of the triclinium. An example of the recreation of dining
couches in the famous Villa of the Mysteries shows how guest and host beds permitted a view out the
main doorway and in this case also into a peristyle at right while the less important diners could only
see the opulent wall paintings that decorated Roman triclinia. Digital reconstruction of the triclinium
of the Villa of the Mysteries has improved historians, scholars and students understanding of its
structure and use, however, many scholars argue on the basis of its bais reconstruction as it is an
artistic impression of a triclinium which may not help in archaeologists and historians

Tim Hanson s The Classroom Teacher, Curious, Courageous,...
1. Is Danny Hanson, the classroom teacher, curious, courageous, or narrow minded? In the show
Boston Public, Danny Hanson is neither courageous nor narrow minded but rather curious. Danny
Hanson is curious due to his actions and views about the world. He portrays this when he asks
questions such as, What s going on? and Okay let me get this straight. These examples show that
Danny wants to understand all sides of the situations he comes across. Danny is also curious for
hearing all perspectives for a certain situation. This happens in the show Boston Public after two
students got into a fight. The fight was about someone saying the n word to a Caucasian and an Africa

narrow minded. 4. Does Andre s analogy work? Why or why not? Andre s analogy I think does work.
This is because of whom they are using as an example. Since Andre used Danny s mom as the victim
of a comment then it s going to be taken more seriously. So what I mean is, that if Danny told his
mom the n word, his mom would take it better from him rather than Andre saying the same word to
Danny s mom. So basically, if you know the person and you know their background then they would
take it better from you rather than a stranger who doesn t know you at all. 5. Were you more surprised
or impressed with Andre s ability to articulate his emotions? Why? I believe I was neither surprise nor
impressed with Andre s ability to articulate his emotions. This is because I just accepted for what
Andre had to say. Though if I were to have been more surprise or impressed I would most likely be
more impressed. This is because Andre, who just got into a fight, said something very articulating and
I wasn t expecting that. The reason why I wasn t because yes, I stereotyped which I shouldn t and

Who Is The Bystander In Lord Of The Flies
The first psychological theory to focus on is the bystander effect: a social psychological experience
where an individual, usually placed in a group, is less motivated towards a goal to benefit self or
victims. The bystander effect can be shown in various situations, such as bullying, protesting, debates
and more. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there are many instances where
characters, mostly littluns, supported as bystanders to the bullying of Piggy by Jack. From the
beginning Jack immediately displays a dislike for Piggy for talking too much, coming to a point where
he insults Piggy by calling him Fatty in front of everyone. This later affects the children s decisions to
vote for a leader, and even though the intelligence...shown was traceable to Piggy...there was a
stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and
most powerfully, there is the conch (22). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Golding displays an apathetic tone on the subject of bullying and the bystander effect; for example,
Golding doesn t reveal much information on the bystanders, but mainly focuses on the struggles Piggy
has to overcome to be heard, in other words, the bystanders are just background noise. The bystander
effect shown in the children strike a significance because it torments Piggy to be recognised only as a
fat kid with no other important role. Additionally, the bystander effect emotionally abuses victims,
such as Piggy, into believing no one else will help, and in return, bystanders will accept bullying and
restrain from interfering unless someone stronger stands up. In modern society, the bystander effect
presents in a majority of bullying situations, just like in Lord of the

Prejudice In Ron Hall s Same Kind Of Different As Me
All people experience prejudice feelings in their lives no matter who they are, where they live, or what
they have been through. Some people are the source of the prejudice feelings. Others, in contrast, are
the ones who experience the prejudice feelings being thrust upon them for one reason or another. In
Ron Hall s, Same Kind of Different as Me, prejudice is clearly portrayed throughout the novel in great
capacity. As the novel unravels, the prejudice notion is overcome through different aspects and
experiences from the characters. The first apparent trace of prejudice that is quite evident to the reader
is the prejudice that Denver Moore experiences from Ron Hall. In this situation, Ron Hall produces
the prejudice feelings towards Denver Moore because of different qualities about Denver s life. First
and foremost, Ron feels superior to Denver in many ways because of class. Since Denver is a
homeless man, and Ron a successful businessman, Ron feels as if he does not owe anything to Denver
especially his time. Debbie Hall, Ron s wife, successfully persuades Ron to help out at the homeless
shelter after a long period of prodding and encouragement. Without Debbie, Ron may never have

He also felt these prejudice feelings towards Ron because of Ron s race and class. Since Ron was a
successful, white, businessman, Denver felt that he was untrustworthy and insincere in his charity
work. He felt that he was only helping out at the homeless shelter to make himself feel better about his
success and show is superiority to everyone else. Through dedication and persistence, Ron finally
changed Denver s opinion about him and made him realize that he was, indeed, a dependable and
heartfelt man after he changed through his charity work and

associated with Jessica s actions. If an agent or employee commits a tort while pursuing his or her own
interests, the tort is not within the scope of the agency or employment, and neither the principal nor
the employer would be liable. (J., amp; D., 2010) Since this was not the case with Jessica, liability
falls on both parties. There is definite impact of this type of legal issue to small and large businesses.
Company s insurance premiums go up across the board and typically business will incur large legal

company s bottom line. Scenario 2 Larry Johnson crashed his four year old Chevy because he was

Qualia In The Great Gatsby
Time is a critical concern for Fitzgerald s axiological and epistemic narratives through chapter six.
There are many factors to show this, such as Gatsby s value and its similarity to the riddle of qualia ,
as well as what Nick learns and understands about his own, and others value qualia. Gatsby s value is
a topic to be considered when attempting to discuss this thesis. Gatsby appears to value the past, more
specifically the positive, romantic experiences of his past. Fitzgerald provides evidence for this at the
end of chapter six, when Gatsby proclaims I m going to fix everything just the way it was before .
Evidence for this also appears later in the form of two paragraphs describing [o]ne autumn night, five

United States Of America For Multiple Years
Health care has been an issue for the United States of America for multiple years. Dental care, a topic
that does not get much attention because people believe it is trivial, plays a major part in people s
lives, particularly children. Gerard van Honthorst s The Tooth Puller shows a dentist pulling a patient s
tooth with five observers watching. Van Honthorst shows how in awe or scared people are of the
dentist. There is a negative outlook on dentists and dental care: people are afraid of the dentist giving
them their negative connotation, while dental care only causes pain in many people eyes. There is a
problem in the health care system and improvement in the system is needed because health care is a
right for every citizen, especially dental care. The United States of America s government should
allow dental therapist to conduct the procedure that normal dentist conduct for free for children under
the age of twelve. The government should fund the teaching, training, and employment of dental
therapists to care for underserved people.
If the students had better access to dental check ups, their dentist could prescribe medicine to help or
schedule other appointments to fix the problems that have arisen with the students. Children call other
students names, which could destroy the other young person s life by losing confidence, not wanting

The main threat to the stability of the Weimar republic in the period 1919 1923 came from the political

clause which `led to much suffering for the German people through loss of savings and jobs and The

Although the putsches were too weak and disorganized to seize power in the earlier years of Weimar it
is significant that the putsches happened at all thus highlighting the looming threat of the extreme
right. The left wing, although a potential for disaster and threat, was not as great a threat as the right to
Weimar. The KPD can be seen as a reasonable political force in the years of 1919 23 as it enjoyed
support of 10 15% of the electorate a there were continuous revolutionary disturbances. However, the
endless protests, strikes and uprisings by the extreme left gave the impression of a Bolshevik inspired
threat to Germany. Whereas the opposition of the left, army, the police and friekorps easily crushed
rebellions; removing the strong leadership of Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. Thus due to
propaganda as a result of right wing parties, Germans began to have exaggerated fears about the
possibility of impending revolution. Revolution in Germany was a central element of Lenin s foreign
policy and the people were also aware that the soviet red army had caused revolution in Poland.
However, the perception of the threat of the extreme left never matched the reality. The revolutionary
left was divided (USPD/KPD) and did not benefit from widespread worker support. In October 1920
many USPD members joined the KPD ad the KPD joined the

Children With Suspected Childhood Apraxia Of Speech
Introduction
Child hood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder that affects children s ability to say sounds,
syllables, and words. The brain has trouble coordinating muscle movements that are needed for
speech. The child knows exactly what to speak, but the brain has trouble coordinating the muscle
movements. It is different for every person that has this type of disorder. In some other cases, it can be
an unknown cause, meaning it can happen out of the blue, or by mutations. One of the articles is based
off of reliability and validity testing and scoring by the Dynamic Evaluation of Motor Speech Skills,
while the other has different assessments that were tested and transcribed.
First Summary of Article One
In the article, Differential Diagnosis of Children with Suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech , the
authors describe the signs of a child having Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). If a child is
suspected of having CAS, here are a few symptoms that can occur, shifting errors on consonants and
vowels in repetitive syllables and sounds, incorrect prosody, and interrupted articulatory between
sounds and syllables. (Murray, McCabe, Heard, Ballard, 2015, p.44). A tool that is used to identify
CAS is a Strands 10 point checklist. (Shriberg, Potter, Strand, 2012). This is a checklist that contains
10 segmental and suprasegmental structures. Authors say that this checklist doesn t lead to an exact
assessment, but authors rely on it (Strand, McCauley, Weigand,

Epsom Salts Lab Report
Introduction:
Magnesium sulfate, MgSO4, also commonly known as Epsom salts, is generally present in mineral
water. It is used as a bath salt to relieve muscle aches and stiffness and as a laxative. Magnesium
sulfate is a hydrated salt and will lose its water if it is not in the presence of oxygen and also through
high temperatures. Magnesium ions are essential for plant growth, as they form part of the chlorophyll
molecule used to convert sunlight into chemical energy. A solution of magnesium sulfate can be
sprayed on the plant, or poured onto the soil to assist the plant with its growth.
Through the experiment conducted the degree of hydration and percentage of hydration of the
magnesium sulfate will be determined using the process of constant mass, by heating the salt it will

Generally around 375 grams of fully hydrated MgSO4 is applied weekly onto the plants, from this

magnesium ions, which is the most significant feature of the salt needed by the plants. This was

Respiratory Acidosis Essay
Respiratory acidosis is when the lungs are unable to remove the normal amount of carbon dioxide as
the body produces it. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers HCO3. The
blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range for PaCO2 is 35
45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to remove CO2 properly, a
form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders, obesity and COPD. The lungs
and the kidneys regulate the body s pH. Lungs remove CO2 and the kidneys remove acid through the
urine. Treatment would include bronchodilator drugs to open airways, oxygen therapy and a breathing
machine might be prescribed. A person that is much older is more likely to develop this type of disease
since the strength of the kidneys and lungs has weekend with age. Also certain medications can affect

in keeping the blood pH balanced by releasing the perfect amount of carbon dioxide. Treatment is
dependent on the cause of respiratory alkalosis. For instance, if it was for anxiety you would exhale
into a paper bag carbon dioxide and breathe that into the lungs. Doing this can restore the carbon
dioxide back into the body. The body s pH depends on the kidneys and lungs so in elderly it is much
harder to maintain this balance due to the decline in the kidneys and the lungs ability to

The official logo of Osaka University, the Ginkgo [ιŠ€ζ] leaf logo, was created by the renowned
Japanese graphic designer Ikko Tanaka for Osaka University s 60th anniversary in 1991. The classic
simplicity of the design belies the fact that it can be viewed at several levels. First, the three arcs in its
structure come from a combination of three O s, the first letter of Osaka. Additionally, as a university
with a long history, these three O s represent the historical links, the concerted efforts between three
groups, the school, the students, and the citizens of Osaka in the establishment of this ... Show more

Greek Philosophy Research Paper
For the Greeks philosophy wasn t restricted to the abstract it was also their natural science. In this way
their philosophers were also their scientist. Questions such as what is the nature of reality and how do
we know what is real are two of the fundamental questions they sought to answer. Pythagoras and
Plato were two of the natural philosophers who sought to explain these universal principles.
Pythagoras felt that all things could be explained and represented by mathematical formulae. Plato,
Socrate s most important disciple, believed that the world was divided into two realms, the visible and
the intelligible. Part of the world, the visible, we could grasp with the five senses, but the intelligible
we could only grasp with our minds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He only played lib service to the Greek pantheon and believed in a one unknown Divinity (Cheney
96). The doctrine he taught to his disciples was the oneness of all things. He believed that there was
one spirit that pervaded the entire universe that bounded us all, including the animals. The origin of
all, the being of all, the kinship of all, is in the harmonious flow. To be perfectly in the rhythm is to be
divinely attuned. Health is perfect bodily rhythm. Education is the opening of the being to the rhythm
(Cheney 96). The universe had its own rhythmic order. This rhythmic order along with numerical
beats, symmetry, measure, harmonious proportion was the link to the one Unity. Their method of
knowing what was real was the study of mathematics since there is a correspondence between the
physical and the mathematical worlds. For Pythagoras the physical and mathematical worlds were
same worlds. Pythagoras and his students purified the mind through scientific study, and spent most of
their time developing mathematical theories (Kathlyn 31). As far as the beauty of Helen of Troy is
concerned, Pythagoras would compare her features to the golden ratio, 1 to1.61814. For example the
width of her mouth would have to be exactly 1.61814 the width of the nose for her to be considered
beautiful. Helen could only be beautiful if her features met the golden ratio (Maddox). He would also

three years. It all started on a cold night in late October, he was heading to a pub when he saw a sign

disorder. Due to the landlady s delusional state of mind, she mentioned that her former guests,
Mr.Temple and Mr. Mulholland, were still staying at the bed and breakfast. While Mr. Weaver was
sitting on the couch and drinking his odd tasting tea, he began examining the room, and he realized
that the landlady was a taxidermist. Everything clicked inside his head and he realized that he needed
to get out of there as soon as possible. He started to leave but she wouldn t let him, she was very old
and wasn t very hard to overpower. He walked out onto the street and a wave of nausea hit him and he
collapsed. An elderly man happened to be walking by at the time and took him to the hospital where
they made the conclusion that he was poisoned with cyanide. After giving him some time to recover,
my co reporter and I, came in asked Mr. Weaver to recount his story which is how we gathered the

Intersectionality In Tony Kushner s Angels In America
Perhaps more than any other disease before or since, syphilis... provoked the kind of widespread moral
panic that AIDS revived when it struck America in the 1980 s (Allen. Searchquote). Angels in
America: Millennium Approaches by Tony Kushner, follows several characters during 1985 1986 in
New York, during the Reagan era. This was a time of an emerging gay culture, the spike in
HIV/AIDS, and the focusing on furthering and improving one s self. Kushner shows the progressing
times and widespread panic and beliefs through his complex characters. Their identities work with and
through each other to grant privileges or create oppressions, this is also known as intersectionality.
However, how does intersectionality shape the opportunities and obstacles of Kushner s characters
Belize, Roy Cohn, and Prior Walter? This essay will explore how each of these characters lead
different lives, despite having one thing in common; they are all gay men, facing the fear of
contracting AIDS, or knowing someone else who does. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These multiple identities work as a whole, and effect the way that he is perceived. Unfortunately, his
life is anything but easy, and it all boils down to intersectionality. Belize is a black male, thus, it is
believed and understood that it is already difficult to survive in a white, phallocentric and patriarchal
society. However if you re black and male and gay, you have to be stronger than you can imagine
(Hooks. 150). Meaning that Belize has to face twice as much oppression, being in two groups that are
marginalized from society. Overall his character deals with constant fear of being the victim of
homophobic and transphobic violence, racial slurs, and prejudice. We know now how Belize is treated
in society as a whole. But how is his character treated with those he is closest

The Flaws Of The Titanic And The Titanic
Despite how entertaining the film Titanic actually is, it has many flaws that can be pointed out. Titanic
is a love story between a woman of the upper class and a man of the lower class. Throughout the
movie they face the difficulties of Jack (Lower class man) not being high enough stature to please the
family of Rose (upper class woman) while they sail through the ocean on a luxurious cruise ship. As
the Titanic sinks the film shows the two being together and going through the catastrophe that is the
final hours on the Titanic. In the movie, Titanic, director James Cameron used a few important actual
events that occurred in the history of The Titanic. However, there are some things that were only
added for detail, entertainment, and action in film. Real life survivors from the ship s sinking report
what is valid and incorrect in the movie.
Many things in the movie, Titanic, actually happened in the actual event. One similarity is when The
Titanic s band continued to play as the ship went under. The lead violinist realized the chaos around
him and started playing, soon to be joined by his band members. An article on the Titanic says, After
the ship struck an iceberg, Wallace Hartley assembled his eight man band, and they eventually ended
up on the Boat Deck near the entrance to the Grand Staircase. There, they played ragtime and waltzes.
( Questioning The Story ). This is reported by survivors to be a valid occurrence in the sinking of the
Titanic. Another similarity between the movie and actual event is when ice landed on the main deck of
the Titanic. When the ship hit the iceberg, huge pieces of ice fell onto the main deck. A story on the
Titanic says, Survivor William Lucas reported seeing about a couple of tons of ice on the fore well
[deck] on the starboard side of the ship. ( Questioning The Story ). Many people report seeing this
incident happen that were aboard the Titanic. The Titanic movie has many similarities to the actual
event.
The movie Titanic although, had quite a few differences from the actual event. The first difference is
how the director, James Cameron, made the movie primarily based around Jack and Rose. These were
not real people on board the Titanic. They are entirely

American Foreign Policy 1930-1941
Over the years 1930 through 1941 the goals of American foreign policy generally changed. In the
earlier years America dealt with war and fought with other countries. America was not very smart in
learning to stay out of war. Over the years, America became more neutral and attempted to stay out of
war as much as possible. Throughout the years, important figures wrote documents to support
America s journey and decisions. In the beginning of this time period, around 1931, Japan disregarded
our international treaty agreements. America did not approve of this and drew a cartoon criticizing
Japan for these actions. This was shown in Document A. The same type of action happened between
Europe and America in the year 1932. Europe could not pay their war debts and America reacted by
saying Europe could not agree on anything else. This was shown in Document B. America could have
handled this differently by being neutral and helping rather than being aggressive and saying they
could not agree on anything else. Around the year of 1937, people started to ... Show more content on

us, that is reason enough to stay out. This was a very important speech that made people realize to stay
out of the pathways of war. This information was stated in Document F. Also is the year of 1941, the
President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Great Britain agreed on various common
principles in the national policies. They chose to base their hopes for a better future for the world. This
was a huge action that showed how we are willing to work with other countries and stay out of war as
much as we can now. Document H stated this

Top Reasons Why Branding Is Important
Question One A: Using your own words, summarize the seven reasons why branding is important.
1. Strong Brands Protect the Consumer
Brands have always served as sort of an emblem to consumers, that there would be a certain quality
associated with that symbol. There are still many many popular brands today that are able to be
distinguished but, brands are standing out among the rest by gaining a strong positive reputation
which far exceeds the quality of there product. Brands ensure that they will provide consumers with a
standard quality, and if they fail to do so their reputation is tarnished. Brands fight for our money ever
day and try to stand out by focusing more on innovation to one up the competition. Brands also largely
battle with price, which is a large part in the consumer decision. The brand and quality must be worth
it otherwise customers will be lost to the competition. Brands protect their consumers simply because
they provide an innovative product that differs from the competitions product. At the same time, they
are ensuring that the quality is worth an appropriate price. This creates a strong and loyal customer
base that will surely build the brand a positive reputation.
2. Strong Brands Drive Share Performance
Powerful market performance has been proven to advance multiple components including the
shareholders, the company itself, and pensions. Organizations that have strongly branded portfolios
have been seen to consistently surpass those organizations

False Memory Syndrome
Psychologists have diligently studied the human mind for many years and have yet to discover some
of the ways that the brain performs simple and complex tasks. Since the knowledge that has been
obtained concerning processes of the brain remains a mere fraction compared to what is unknown
about cognitive functioning, individuals cannot fully grasp the reasoning behind why the brain
performs some of the acts it does. Many people daydream, picture themselves recovering lost items in
obscure places, or even create stories repeated so much that individuals begin to believe they may
have happened; all three of these examples are forms of creating a false memory. Many psychologists
have researched, evaluated, and experimented with false memory, which has lead to the discovery of
False Memory Syndrome, a condition in which individuals contract false memories while almost
always remaining oblivious to the act of creating a memory that is not factual or concrete (Berger 1).
False memory syndrome develops as a result of many different internal and external forces such as
mind manipulation in psychological malpractice, severe trauma to the brain in the first few years of
life, a traumatic experience, or even by forcing one s self into believing an entirely made up thought;
however, seemingly healthy individuals can contract the syndrome without the slightest idea it is
present.
Some people tend to use a coping mechanism called confabulation to put their mind in a state of
peace,

  • 2. The Seated Scribe, By Egypt Fourth Dynasty Essay The Seated Scribe The seated scribe is a sculpture made in 2500 B.C.E in Saqqara, Egypt fourth dynasty. This piece of artwork can explain a lot about the society it came from which makes it significant. In the following paragraphs I will address; what makes it unique? Who it was found by? The impact this had on our understanding of the piece, and modern interpretations of Egyptian art. First here s a description: The seated scribe is 1 9 high and is made from limestone; it s typical of an Egyptian sculpture in that it s painted. He sits with perfect posture; cross legged, head facing forward, hand ready to write although his brush is missing. His eyes are a complex structure (I will go into further detail in page 3 paragraph 2). He wears a simple white cloth resembling what we might call a skirt. What makes the sculpture different from others of this time period are two things; the subject matter, in that it depicts no god, nor Pharaoh only a mortal human writing in a mostly illiterate society. Secondly it demonstrates age shown in sagging muscles and rotund belly. Due to this relaxed style we can gather that the subject is not a Pharaoh as it was dishonourable to insinuate that they aged as they were supposed to be gods on earth. According to the Louvre website, (www.louvre.fr/en/oeuvre notices/seated scribe) the sculpture was found in Saqqara Egypt in 1850 by an archaeologist by the name of Auguste Mariette. The exact location of the Seated Scribe has remained a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Philosophy Of Knowing And Learning Knowing and learning can be interpreted in many different ways, but my philosophy of knowing and learning is based on my understanding through the personal experience in the tutoring situation. As a Tutor for students who were 9 years old, majority of the time was spent reading to develop their English. An aspect that impacted the students learning progress tremendously was the tutor s responsibility to understand the student s capability, needs and interest to support their learning progress. When tutoring the students, there were some theories that were appropriate to aid the students in reading and influenced the tutor s techniques employed to support the students learning. The philosophers that influenced my tutoring techniques were Etienne Wenger, Jerome Bruner, Albert Bandura, Ivan Pavlov, Burrhus Frederic Skinner, Jean Lave, Wolfgang Kohler and Lev Vygotsky. Wenger s social theory believed that adding meaning and interest into an activity encourages learning (Lave Wenger,1991). The Gestalt Approach influenced Kohler s idea where the student would need to know the basic elements before being able to learn and acquire more knowledge (Phillips Soltis, 2009). To build up new ideas from the initial basic elements, Scaffolding by Bruner and Modelling by Bandura were the two learning strategies utilized to support the student s learning (Nalliah Idris, 2014). The student is made aware that the new acquired skill or knowledge taught by Scaffolding and Modelling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Importance Of Public Speaking Speech Before I started taking UMUC SPCH 100, I never encountered a situation where I had to use public speaking skills at all. Just the thought of having to speak in front of a class as a requirement made me nervous. But that wasn t the only challenge I was facing mentally. Since I never had any public speaking experience before, things such as body language, tone, eye contact, etc. were easily forgotten since my last speech class over five years ago. All of that was easily spotted in the process of making my self introduction video when I kept deciding to do retakes repeatedly. In the end, I managed to produce a product that would keep me from failing but it was nothing that I could be proud of. When it came time for the second speech to be due I was relieved almost that it would be another prerecorded session. I thought about how I could have sort of cheat the fundamentals of public speaking by just doing retakes any time I messed up. But my luck ran out when it was changed to an in class project where we would use our peers as an interview partner. I was glad that we have been doing a few impromptu speeches up to this point. Without any sort of warm up beforehand it would have been a far worse speech than it already was. After interviewing my partner, I thought I had compiled enough information but I failed to transition it to a well organized speech. I took this as a good wakeup call that I really needed to practice the basic of public speaking. After delivering my speech I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Pompeii Triclinium Within the historical context, a triclinium is a room in the Roman house with three couches for dinning purpose. In Source A, the primary evidence of a triclinium in the House of the Cryptoporticus suggests its provanace in Pompeii which may help an historian to identify and understand its fuction, therefore highlighting the dinning aspect of people in Pompeii. The size, architecture and decor of the triclinium demonstrate the key role that it played in displaying the wealth of the host. The triclinium was often the largest and most sumptuous of the reception areas in the house. Complex architectural designs such as an interior colonnade could make the room particularly luxurious. The walls of the triclinium were often decorated with paintings done in fresco or in tempera or with mosaics. Though the poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The source being primary is reliable if an historian is focusing on the dining environment of a private house and also helps to study about the social interactions among family members and the guests. The corroboration with other archaeological sources such as Villa Murecine near Pompeii may help an historian to recontruct the archtitecture of the triclinium. An example of the recreation of dining couches in the famous Villa of the Mysteries shows how guest and host beds permitted a view out the main doorway and in this case also into a peristyle at right while the less important diners could only see the opulent wall paintings that decorated Roman triclinia. Digital reconstruction of the triclinium of the Villa of the Mysteries has improved historians, scholars and students understanding of its structure and use, however, many scholars argue on the basis of its bais reconstruction as it is an artistic impression of a triclinium which may not help in archaeologists and historians ... • 7. Tim Hanson s The Classroom Teacher, Curious, Courageous,... 1. Is Danny Hanson, the classroom teacher, curious, courageous, or narrow minded? In the show Boston Public, Danny Hanson is neither courageous nor narrow minded but rather curious. Danny Hanson is curious due to his actions and views about the world. He portrays this when he asks questions such as, What s going on? and Okay let me get this straight. These examples show that Danny wants to understand all sides of the situations he comes across. Danny is also curious for hearing all perspectives for a certain situation. This happens in the show Boston Public after two students got into a fight. So, out of the three options available, Steven, the Principal, is narrow minded. 4. Does Andre s analogy work? Why or why not? Andre s analogy I think does work. This is because of whom they are using as an example. Since Andre used Danny s mom as the victim of a comment then it s going to be taken more seriously. So what I mean is, that if Danny told his mom the n word, his mom would take it better from him rather than Andre saying the same word to Danny s mom. So basically, if you know the person and you know their background then they would take it better from you rather than a stranger who doesn t know you at all. 5. Were you more surprised or impressed with Andre s ability to articulate his emotions? Why? I believe I was neither surprise nor impressed with Andre s ability to articulate his emotions. This is because I just accepted for what Andre had to say. Though if I were to have been more surprise or impressed I would most likely be more impressed. This is because Andre, who just got into a fight, said something very articulating and I wasn t expecting that. • 8. Who Is The Bystander In Lord Of The Flies The first psychological theory to focus on is the bystander effect: a social psychological experience where an individual, usually placed in a group, is less motivated towards a goal to benefit self or victims. The bystander effect can be shown in various situations, such as bullying, protesting, debates and more. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there are many instances where characters, mostly littluns, supported as bystanders to the bullying of Piggy by Jack. From the beginning Jack immediately displays a dislike for Piggy for talking too much, coming to a point where he insults Piggy by calling him Fatty in front of everyone. This later affects the children s decisions to vote for a leader, and even though the intelligence...shown was traceable to Piggy...there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most powerfully, there is the conch (22). ... Golding displays an apathetic tone on the subject of bullying and the bystander effect; for example, Golding doesn t reveal much information on the bystanders, but mainly focuses on the struggles Piggy has to overcome to be heard, in other words, the bystanders are just background noise. The bystander effect shown in the children strike a significance because it torments Piggy to be recognised only as a fat kid with no other important role. Additionally, the bystander effect emotionally abuses victims, such as Piggy, into believing no one else will help, and in return, bystanders will accept bullying and restrain from interfering unless someone stronger stands up. Some people are the source of the prejudice feelings. Others, in contrast, are the ones who experience the prejudice feelings being thrust upon them for one reason or another. In Ron Hall s, Same Kind of Different as Me, prejudice is clearly portrayed throughout the novel in great capacity. As the novel unravels, the prejudice notion is overcome through different aspects and experiences from the characters. The first apparent trace of prejudice that is quite evident to the reader is the prejudice that Denver Moore experiences from Ron Hall. In this situation, Ron Hall produces the prejudice feelings towards Denver Moore because of different qualities about Denver s life. Dental care, a topic that does not get much attention because people believe it is trivial, plays a major part in people s lives, particularly children. Gerard van Honthorst s The Tooth Puller shows a dentist pulling a patient s tooth with five observers watching. Van Honthorst shows how in awe or scared people are of the dentist. There is a negative outlook on dentists and dental care: people are afraid of the dentist giving them their negative connotation, while dental care only causes pain in many people eyes. There is a problem in the health care system and improvement in the system is needed because health care is a right for every citizen, especially dental care. The United States of America s government should allow dental therapist to conduct the procedure that normal dentist conduct for free for children under the age of twelve. The government should fund the teaching, training, and employment of dental therapists to care for underserved people. If the students had better access to dental check ups, their dentist could prescribe medicine to help or schedule other appointments to fix the problems that have arisen with the students. Although the putsches were too weak and disorganized to seize power in the earlier years of Weimar it is significant that the putsches happened at all thus highlighting the looming threat of the extreme right. The left wing, although a potential for disaster and threat, was not as great a threat as the right to Weimar. The KPD can be seen as a reasonable political force in the years of 1919 23 as it enjoyed support of 10 15% of the electorate a there were continuous revolutionary disturbances. However, the endless protests, strikes and uprisings by the extreme left gave the impression of a Bolshevik inspired threat to Germany. Whereas the opposition of the left, army, the police and friekorps easily crushed rebellions; removing the strong leadership of Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg. Thus due to propaganda as a result of right wing parties, Germans began to have exaggerated fears about the possibility of impending revolution. The brain has trouble coordinating muscle movements that are needed for speech. The child knows exactly what to speak, but the brain has trouble coordinating the muscle movements. It is different for every person that has this type of disorder. In some other cases, it can be an unknown cause, meaning it can happen out of the blue, or by mutations. One of the articles is based off of reliability and validity testing and scoring by the Dynamic Evaluation of Motor Speech Skills, while the other has different assessments that were tested and transcribed. First Summary of Article One In the article, Differential Diagnosis of Children with Suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech , the authors describe the signs of a child having Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). If a child is suspected of having CAS, here are a few symptoms that can occur, shifting errors on consonants and vowels in repetitive syllables and sounds, incorrect prosody, and interrupted articulatory between sounds and syllables. (Murray, McCabe, Heard, Ballard, 2015, p.44). A tool that is used to identify CAS is a Strands 10 point checklist. (Shriberg, Potter, Strand, 2012). • 21. Respiratory Acidosis Essay Respiratory acidosis is when the lungs are unable to remove the normal amount of carbon dioxide as the body produces it. This leads to an increase in PaCO2 (hypercapnia) which lowers HCO3. The blood becomes too acidic because of the excess amount of CO2. The average range for PaCO2 is 35 45m Hg. Respiratory acidosis is caused by an issue with the lungs ability to remove CO2 properly, a form of lung disease. Most causes are asthma, neuromuscular disorders, obesity and COPD. The lungs and the kidneys regulate the body s pH. Lungs remove CO2 and the kidneys remove acid through the urine. Treatment would include bronchodilator drugs to open airways, oxygen therapy and a breathing machine might be prescribed. • 31. False Memory Syndrome Psychologists have diligently studied the human mind for many years and have yet to discover some of the ways that the brain performs simple and complex tasks. Since the knowledge that has been obtained concerning processes of the brain remains a mere fraction compared to what is unknown about cognitive functioning, individuals cannot fully grasp the reasoning behind why the brain performs some of the acts it does. Many people daydream, picture themselves recovering lost items in obscure places, or even create stories repeated so much that individuals begin to believe they may have happened; all three of these examples are forms of creating a false memory. Many psychologists have researched, evaluated, and experimented with false memory, which has lead to the discovery of False Memory Syndrome, a condition in which individuals contract false memories while almost always remaining oblivious to the act of creating a memory that is not factual or concrete (Berger 1). False memory syndrome develops as a result of many different internal and external forces such as mind manipulation in psychological malpractice, severe trauma to the brain in the first few years of life, a traumatic experience, or even by forcing one s self into believing an entirely made up thought; however, seemingly healthy individuals can contract the syndrome without the slightest idea it is present.
