The Lexical Decision Task Shows Evidence Towards Readiness
The Lexical Decision task shows evidence towards readiness to recall and semantic memories used in
the form of associations based on relatedness of words in the experiment. This experiment is
important because it attempts to understand how people develop, store, and use memories to their
advantage. Additionally, the Lexical Decision Task attempts to explain why how long term memory is
used and under what circumstances it is recovered. Memory is a crucial part of life for most people. It
is the way that we participate in our every day lives. Without memories, people would not be able to
build relationships with others, learn valuable survival and intellectual skills, or even retain that eating
and drinking water is how humans stay alive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From short term memory, there will be an encoding and retrieval process where long term memory
will be developed. There, some of the information is retained and some of it is lost over a passage of
time. The long term memory stage has the longest potential duration and can be recalled for years after
initial understanding. Evidence to support this model comes from an experiment published in the
Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior in 1966 by Murray Glanzer and Anita Cunitz. There
experiment showed the serial position effects known as primacy, words at the beginning of a list are
more easily recalled, and recency, words at the end of a list are more easily recalled. These result
supported Atkinson and Shiffrin s model by showing that long term memory and short term memory
were separate stages. The recency effect showed that words in short term memory were more easily
remembered. While the primacy effect showed that words in long term memory were more easily
remembered because they had been rehearsed (Glanzer and Cunitz, 1966). Because of the simplicity
of the modal model presented by Glanzer and Cunitz in 1966, there were several critiques that
provided doubt to the accuracy of the model. Two of these critiques were Alan Baddeley and Graham
Hitch, who believed they could build off of Glanzer and Cunitz s model to produce a stronger
illustration of short term memory (working memory). A significant addition to their model

Research Paper On Beowulf
The Anglo Saxon period stretched for over six hundred years, 410 to 1066. This period is often
referred to as the Dark Ages because the written documents from this era have become scarce. This
period was a time of war, separation of kingdoms, and religious conversions. The Anglo Saxon s were
a group of people descending from the German regions of Angeln and Saxon. They cultivated Britain
after the great fall of the Roman Empire around AD 410.
` As the Anglo Saxon s settled in, the Jutes and the Frisians from Denmark were also settling in the
British Isles, but the Anglo Saxon settlers set their rules and became their own masters in a new land.
Throughout the period the Anglo Saxon s broke off into seven known kingdoms: Kent, Mercia,
Northumbria, East Anglia, Essex, Sussex, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 850 the seven kingdoms consolidated into three kingdoms: Northumbria, Mercia, and Wessex.
Many Roman ways in their past culture were set aside in their new culture; they replaced the Roman
stone buildings with their own wooden ones, and spoke their own language, which gave rise to the
modern English spoken today. Although many spoke in different dialects, which over time became
known as Old English. Famous literature emerged in this era: the poem Beowulf and the Anglo Saxon
Chronicle, which both cover events in the early history of England.
The Anglo Saxon s followed their own religious beliefs until the arrival of Saint Augustine in AD 597,
which lead to the conversion of Christianity. This period was very religious and Christianity flourished
throughout the Kingdoms. The social order of the Anglo Saxon s had four tiers: kings, thanes, churls,
and slaves. The kings ruled over the kingdoms and were always on top. Thanes were very powerful
men who reported to the king, and also had influence on the king. Thanes could also own land. Below

The Black Power Movement During The 1950 S
The Black Power Movement took place during the 1950 s into the early 60 s. The point of the
movement was to achieve civil rights for African Americans. Martin Luther King was a major
influence during the early stages of the movement. Many people turned to the Black Panthers, founded
by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, because they felt that nonviolence was not the answer to
achieving civil rights. The Black Power Movement unsuccessfully tried to change the economic and
social inequalities of blacks, because today many blacks are still treated socially and economically
inferior to whites. One reason the Black Power Movement was unsuccessful is the economic
insecurities of blacks in today s society. A major reason for the high rate of poverty of blacks is what is
known as the double burden of poverty. This double burden of poverty is when a person is poor, but
also surrounded by a neighborhood that is just as poor. One cannot expect to get help, or have a better
life, when one is surrounded by those who are in the same situation as them. Chicago is a perfect
example of a city whose poverty rate is extremely high. Statistics show in the, five year American
Community Survey data from 2009 2013, more than a third of all poor African Americans in
metropolitan Chicago live in high poverty census tracts (Badger). The survey reveals that the poverty
rate in Chicago during this time span was over 40% and was ten times higher than poor whites. Many

Why We Crave Horror Movies by Stephen King
Essay Analysis of
Why We Crave Horror Movies
Thesis:
Stephen King never clearly states the thesis of this essay however there is enough information
provided that we can infer one. We need to keep our inner lyncher at bay by feeding ourselves with
small portions of demonic, bloody, violence, found in horror movies. King writes It deliberately
appeals to all the worst in us. It is morbidity unchained, our most base instincts let free, our nastiest
fantasies realized... (Why We Crave Horror Movies, paragraph 12) and by doing so he s implying that
horror movies are like a temporary fix for our violent craves.
Type of essay:
Why We Crave Horror Movies is an informal Cause and Effect essay.
We know the essay is informal because the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By answering questions that the reader may have, his objective can remain the focus of the essay.
King goes on to say if, on the other hand, your insanity leads you only to talk to yourself when you re
under stress to pick your nose on your morning bus, then you are left alone to go about your day.
(paragraph 8). This makes the essay relative and more comprehensible for the reader. We all do
slightly crazy things from time to time (whether we want to admit it or not is entirely up to us), so
King is able to use this method to help get his message through to the reader.
One critic has suggested that if pro football has become the voyeur s version of combat, then the
horror film has become the modern version of public lynching. (paragraph 6) This is a prime example
of one of the many argumentative strategies in the essay. Not only does the said quote prove that King
s opinion is shared by others but also that it appeals to authority. By including an experts shared
opinion on the matter, King s argument becomes much more compelling. To show that we can, to
show that we are not afraid, that we can ride this roller coaster (paragraph 3) is an extremely effective
metaphor king uses to help better describe why we go to see movies in the first place. We ve all been
on a roller coaster before so we can easily relate to what the author is explaining to us. King also uses
a personal anecdote as an example of feeding our dark side what it wants; For myself, I

Why We Should Not Year Round School
Year round schooling Is more beneficial than non year round schooling. Some think there should not
be year round schooling, but others think there should be year round schooling.Research shows that
there Is no change for learning In year round schooling, but however some research has shown they
learn way more. There should be year round schooling. Reason number 1: You will learn way more
than just 9 months of school. Reason number 2: It will increase more respect for teachers quickly.
Reason number 3: Students will be able to advance more quickly.
The first reason Is that you will learn way more than just having a 9 month calendar of schooling. For
an example you will be so use to the stuff you learned It s built In your head. Also studies have found
that disadvantage of students lose about 27% more of their learning because of the long summer
breaks, spring breaks, and winter. Plus having days days off. Students will be more advanced to the
next school year why? Well first of all you don t forget what you learned. It s gonna have you prepared
for college because of the grades that showed. In addition students may not like year round schooling,
but at least you re getting better at things you haven t understood before. (Lynch) ... Show more

For an example the more time you see the students and teachers everyday you won t think of them as a
babysitter because the more and more you see them work It s just like okay there Is no point to be
rude. Also year round schooling offers to change the precipitation in the teachers. They won t be so
hard on the students. The most Important example of this reason Is teachers are taking the year and
their time to have these students be smart! (Filed Under: General Interest, Tagged With: Education,

After studying this chapter, the student will be able to:
 Explain the concept of illumination in computer graphics.
 Explain Diffuse and specular reflections.
 Explain refraction of light.
 Explain need of halftoning.
 Explain various methods of halftoning the images.
 Explain dithering techniques.
11.1. Introduction
We can obtain realistic views of a scene by creating perspective projections of objects and by using
natural lighting effects to the visible areas. An illumination model which is also called a lighting
model or shading model is used to measure the intensity of light on the surface of an object. There is a
surface rendering algorithm that uses the intensity calculations from an illumination model to find out

A very rough surface produces primarily diffuse reflections, so that the surface looks equally dazzling
from all viewing directions. Figure 11.4. depicts diffuse light scattering from a surface. The color of
an object is the color of the diffuse reflection of the light incident on it. A red object illuminated by a
light source, for example, reflects the red component of the white light and completely absorbs all the
other components of light. If the red object is viewed under a blue light, it looks black because the
entire incident light is absorbed. Along with diffuse reflection, light sources can also create highlights,
or bright spots, called specular reflection. The highlighting effect is more pronounced on shiny
surfaces than on dull surfaces. Specular reflection is shown in figure

Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific...
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social problems.
Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and
discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of
society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its
problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of
survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition
mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior
characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study
sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes
when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s
interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire
about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists
were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of
Sociology in America. Sociologists throughout the decades have sought to develop a scientific
approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and discrimination. Early

Flight 800 Research Papers
We all get a little scared when we step on to a plane. All we want is to get from destination to the other
without any complications. Four hundred and and sixty nine people probably wanted the same thing.
In 1996 twohundred and thirty people died on a flight that exploded a few minutes after taking off. In
2014 twohundred and thirtynine are presumed dead on a flight that is still missing to this day. So the
question is what really happened to these flights? In 1996 Trans World Airlines flight 800 was in route
Rome with a stopover in Paris, when it exploded only twelve minutes after take off. The accident
report states that the cause of the explosion was from the center wing fuel tank which resulted from a
ignition of a flammable fuel/air mixture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An air traffic controler shares what he saw on that day in 1996 I thought it was a landing light, but
then it headed straight for the plan, and then the plane blew. (Nita Hiltner). James Sanders, the author
of the The Downing Of TWA flight 800, has spent the last 18 years investigating this event, he
recently announced that the flight was brought down accidentally by two missiles fired from a Navy
Vessel and/or submarine that were in the area to intercept a smaller plane involved in a plot to bring
down the commercial flight . A cover up by the FBI and the NTSB (National Transportation Safety
Board) was extensive, involving intimidation of witnesses and investigators, tampering with evidence,
false testimony before Congress, censoring reports, and numerous violations of protocols. Some of the
government s own official investigators said that the explosions occurred outside the airplane. They
were permitted to testify with that evidence. A piece of metal from a destroyed or missing plane can
tell a big story. Early last year detectives were brought to the attention of a piece of scrap washed up
on the Reunion Island in early July. Could this be a link to finding missing flight MH 370? In the

The effect of constant dose of sevin (3.0mg / KgBW) on whole and five different parts of rat brain
AChE (2a) and NOS (2b) at various time post injection
DISCUSSION
The analyses demonstrated extensive contrast in ChE and NOS activities in the different parts of rat
brain. The most astounding action was distinguished in the brain stem and cerebellum, bring down in
basal ganglia and the least in the frontal cortex. The high NOS activity in the cerebellum is in
concurrence with the outcomes portrayed by other authors.(13,14,15,16) In the present work, the i.p
infusion of various dosages of the carbamate sevin brought about the inhibition of both ChE and NOS.
Moreover past reviews demonstrated that the organochlorine and organophosphorus mixes attributable
to their lipophilic nature, tie to the hydrophobic area of CaM and in this way impede CaM subordinate
NOS activities like Ca2+ATPase phosphodiestrase.(16)
The present work demonstrated that the restraint of ChE and NOS activities expanded with expanding
the concentrations of sevin i.e. dosage reliance. The

War Technology Research Paper
Technology is the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes or applications, especially in an
industry or in our everyday lives. Technology usually involves in using an equipment and that
equipment can be very simple or very complicated to deal with. There are countless sources of
technology available to us along with multiple variations being created. Since the nineteenth century
to present day, the creation of technology has dramatically increased and improved. There are
technical devices for almost everything, currently, our society is living off of technology, due to that
fact that it makes any frequent task more convenient and effortless. Since the invention of the first
mechanical computer designed by Charles Babbage in 1822, our society that we know today has come
to be.
In 1936 Alan Turing, an English mathematical and a logician created the Turing machine (Copeland,
2000) which was originally created for the purpose a mathematical tool, it represented a computing
device that contained a read/write head or a scanner with a paper tape passing through it. This machine

At the time of the World War II, things were very different, they needed something or some
technology to strategize and make plans which could help them through their war. In 1941 a computer

aerodynamic calculations as designing airplanes and missiles for the war. The Z3 was the world s first

and was operated on a 22 bit word length at a 5 10 Hz clock frequency. However, in 1943, the Z3 was
destroyed in a bombing raid in Berlin, but Zuse did not stop there. He rebuilt the Z3 again after 17

Family Relationships In East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
East of Eden published by John Steinbeck in 1952 is a great example for one to use when researching
family dynamics. The book tells the story of the Trask family living in Salinas valley California at the
turn of the 19th century. It is a tumultuous tale inspired by Cain and Able. The family consists of
Adam Trask, the father of twins Cal and Aaron Trask, and Cathy Ames their mother who abandoned
them as babies. The book starts out by going over the history of the Trask family Afterwards the book
transitions into details of Adam s life prior to the birth of his children. Details of Cathy s early life are
also revealed. The story goes on to uncover the failed marriage of Adam and Cathy. It is then
subsequently brought back to the present time. Cal and Aaron are now teenagers and Adam is starting
a new business venture. It becomes apparent that Cal is quite the rebel and trouble maker. In contrast
Aaron is the picture of perfection, has a beautiful girlfriend Abra, and can do no wrong. Unbeknownst
to Adam, Cal has developed a deep jealousy of Aaron believing that their father only has love for him.
Cal goes on to find out that his and Aaron s mother who was thought to be dead is alive. He meets her
and begins to wonder if his tendencies to do bad come from her. Time goes on and Adam s business
venture of refrigerated lettuce fails. Because of this he loses fifteen thousand dollars Cal feels badly
for his father and comes up with an idea. He sets out to get his father s

Open, Safe Classroom Environment
Recently, those within education have begun to focus on not only teaching content, but also helping
children to develop socially, emotionally and morally. Many teachers use activities in the classroom
can help to improve students ability to develop their social identity, their emotional recognition, and
their moral values. Furthermore, these types of activities can be useful for teachers in helping to
establish an open, safe classroom environment where students can expand on their values and beliefs
in a comfortable way. One activity that has commonly been used to improve these abilities is morality
based questioning.

Students had to consider the statement, before moving to the side of the room that they agreed with.
Once all the children had taken a position, they were required to discuss the statement with everyone
on their side, and come up with a single sentence response as to why they believe that they are correct.
Following that, they had to nominate a spokesperson, who had to share their sentence with the entire
class. Students were then given 10 seconds to change sides if the argument presented by the other side
was persuasive enough. Within their small group, they then had 2 minutes to discuss as many
arguments as possible, before pitching these arguments to the other group. Then the teacher
summarised all the arguments that the students presented, writing them on the board. After asking if
there were any further questions, the teacher would read out a new statement and the class would
repeat the activity. At the end of the class the teacher explained that the purpose of the activity was to
get students to work together to consider the multifaceted nature of ethical dilemmas. Through
discussion, students were able to improve their social and emotional development, and further
heighten their sense of morality.
This activity is an example of how the classroom environment can facilitate the development of a
moral conscience. Though moral development is hard to define, it is commonly thought of as the
process by which students are influenced

Persuasive Essay On The San Diego Zoo
If your child s birthday is quickly approaching, you might be wondering how to celebrate. A party at
home, whether just as a family or with the kid s friends, can be fun, but sometimes it is fun to do
something beyond just cake and ice cream at home. If you are looking for something other than a
party at home or even just pizza at your kid s favorite pizza parlor, consider these three birthday party
options in San Diego.
San Diego Zoo
For kids who enjoy animals, the San Diego Zoo is a fun birthday celebration option. Their Australian
Outback birthday bash includes admission to the zoo, lunch, and birthday cake. The kids will also get
the opportunity to interact with some of the zoo animals and be entertained by some of the zoo s staff
members. Unfortunately for older children, the Australian Outback Birthday Bash was only created for
children up to 10 years old.
It does not have to be your child s birthday to go to the zoo, though. The San Diego Zoo was ranked
by Trip Advisor as the #1 Zoo in the World in 2015, and it consistently ranks as one of the Top Ten
zoos in the world. Whether you are bringing along a large group of kids for your child s birthday
celebration or you are simply going as a family, you can expect to see some of your favorite animals,
including giant pandas, a Komodo dragon, and flamingos. You can even see unique animals, such as
the okapi, which looks a bit like a mix of a zebra and a giraffe.

Questions On Accounting And Auditing Issues
Introduction:
After visiting the company, we found some accounting and auditing issues that come to our attention.
So we prepared a memo for Mr. Kovacs as a result of our visit to make him be aware of these potential
problems.
Accounting issues:
The owners of the company believe that WHCL will be poised to be a major player in the Canadian
and the US heating and cooling markets in three years. However, after collecting information and
auditing all the financial statement, we found that there is numerous issues need to be concerned for
WHCL in recent years.
1. Covenants:
We can notice that in the early fiscal 2000, WHCL increased its debt significantly, and the company
had attached several covenants specifying that debt to equity ratio ... Show more content on

But this would certainly increase the audit risk. If the company has violated the covenants, the auditor
should disclose that in the financial statement.
Exhibit 1 Current Ratio Debt To Equity Ratio
1999 1347/895=1.505 1420/1257=1.12
2000 1446/1149=1.25 1974/1007=1.96
2. Warranty (Estimated Expense):
In 1994, WHCL introduced a new model of gas furnace and these products are sold with ten year
warranties on parts and labor. Although this marketing strategy can attract more customers to buy their
product, the increased long term warranty claims will increase company s warranty expense, and
lower their future profit.
The most serious accounting problem for WHCL is the warranty potential liability. The increasing
liability concern is because WHCL sold a new model of gas furnace with 10 year warranties in 1994.
So we need to consider how much repair costs should be reported in the 2000 financial statements. As
we know, cost of repairing each furnace was $150, and there are 30 claims were made. So we need to
record 30 x $150=$4500 in warranty expenses in 2000 financial statement. Another problem for us is
the information we currently collect cannot let us make an accurate estimate. Apparently, WHCL don t
want to record too much costs in current period, but the fact is they require a large amount of accrual.
If the estimate is low, then the costs we

How Did Julius Caesar Invade Britain
Intro Roman Britain, or Britannia, was the name of England and Wales when they were ruled by the
Romans. Julius Caesar was the first of the Roman emperors to invade Britain. The native Britons were
overrun by other Celtic tribes. These tribes however aided Caesar s enemies, thus the need to invade
Britain. But it wasn t until a hundred years later that the Romans actually ruled Roman Britain, thanks
to the defenses of the Celtic tribes. Culture The Romans brought culture to Ancient Britain. They built
brick and stone buildings with central heating, sewage systems, paved roads, libraries etc. The
Romans also brought their language to Britain: Latin. Housing The floor on which someone lived
depended on his or her income. The lower apartments ground or first floor were more comfortable
than the top floors. They were spacious, had separate rooms for dining and sleeping, they had
windows and had access to running water. The higher floors however usually housed an entire family
per room. There was no natural light, no running water and thus no private toilets. Instead, they often
had to use public toilets, or dump their waste outside. The wealthiest residents lived in private villas,
close to the imperial palace. They consisted of a shop at the front of the villa, and an atrium connected

Families were centered around the paterfamilias, the male head of the household. The paterfamilias
literally had the power of life and death over all members of the family: when a disfigured child was
born, he could reject it, if another daughter was born, he could reject her, if someone questioned his
authority, he could order him to be killed. Another fun fact is that he could also sell his children as
slaves. The wife would run the household and sometimes tutored the children. Later in time, the wife
was permitted to go to the baths, attend theater, and even to have an actual

Relational Database Systems And Relational Databases
Relational Database Systems
The idea of relational database was first introduced by E.F.Codd at IBM in 1970. It is a kind of
computer database in which data is stored in Relations and is represented in the form of tables with
rows and columns. Databases can vary in sizes, ranging from very small and simple to very large and
complex ones. Database users can access the data practically in an unlimited number of ways.
Relational databases help in finding the information in a quick and efficient manner that one is
looking for.Today many popular databases use the model of relational database.
The invention of relational databases have brought a number of changes to the business world in
which they operate specially for the businesses whose prime focus is on its customers, their likes and
dislikes to win more market share. There is no such concept as one size fits all in using this
technology, it varies from industry to industry. One thing may work for some businesses and may not
work for others, therefore it is advisable that one should shop around before investing in any of the
technologies because it is vital to find an industry specific solution. One technique to narrow the
search for industry specific solutions is to find out what our competitors are using to gain more
customer base.
When it comes to customers, the use of relational database management systems can help in linking
various features of business electronically, like connecting a customer with specific product

Research Paper On Australian Animals
Australia has a vast and fascinating amount of animals, and is home to some of the most unusual
creatures on Earth. It is one of the few continents to have all three groups of mammels monotremes,
marsupials, and placentals. Australia is also home to more than 800 species of birds, over 4,000 fish
species, 50 different marine mammals, and two types of crocodiles. The continent has an expansive
variety of ecosystems and habitats, such as sub tropical rain forests in the Northeast, an immense span
of desert and semi arid land in Central Australia, and barren grasslands and towering mountain ranges

The platypus has a flattened torpedo like body, dense waterproof fur, and strong front legs used for
both swimming and digging. Its head is narrow, each ear hidden in a groove next to its small eyes.
While submerged to feed, the senses of sight, smell, and hearing are essentially shut down, so the
creature uses its electroreceptors to navigate perfectly underwater. One of the platypus main predators
is the crocodile, another aquatic animal commonly found in Australia. Crocodiles have a very low
metabolism and move very little, in addition to being a cold blooded animal, which means they do not
maintain a regular body temperature. That adds up to low energy consumption, so they, therefore,
seldom need to eat. Their diet includes mollusks, crustaceans, insects, crabs, crayfish, shrimp,
amphibians, reptiles, and fish. Among mammals, crocodile prey on wild boar, kangaroos, water

Technology In Physical Therapy
There are many different technologies in the physical therapy field, I ve chosen four that I ve had
some experience working with. The four I chose was ultrasound, hydrotherapy, gym equipment, and
electrotherapy. The use of technology in the physical therapy is not uncommon and most of the time it
helps speed up the process of recovery. The technologies are not that advanced like some other fields
but they get their job done. The first thing I ve chosen to talk about is the ultrasound. The utilization of
ultrasound was thought to help in producing delicate tissue. This practice has since stopped in light of
the fact that it has been demonstrated insufficient in this regard. Nonetheless, ultrasound has numerous
other therapeutic applications. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Under the fourth amendment, Police do not need a warrant for a search if probable cause is there.
(Schmalleger, 2012).The search and seizure are made under the reasonable cause. For instance, For
example, A police officer makes a routine traffic stop of a vehicle to site the driver for speeding and
smells alcohol when he talks with the driver, then the officer has probable cause to search the vehicle
for more illegal things without a warrant (Schmalleger, 2012)
The officers have the right to search in the case of plain view doctrine (Schmalleger, 2012). It can be
understood with an example; if an officer goes to a doctor for assistance or medical help and during
the process, he sees drugs; in this situation, he can legally forfeit him and make an arrest at the
moment. The plain view doctrine applies under legal circumstances and in the places where the police
officers have a valid right. All these searchers and reasons are persuasive and influential (Schmalleger,

My Summer Camp
It was the last day of my summer camp, the night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all their gear
and leave the coast of the Puget Sound, and go back to the suburbia where most of the kids in the
troop lived. The last day of summer camp, at least at Camp Parsons, was the Hullabaloo. The
Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols, in a large grass covered area, bordering a beach
and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees, and was overlooked by a very
large cabin like building, which acted as the meal room for all the troops at camp. The cabin like
building was a dark brown, built on the outside with logs, but on the inside a sort of insulated faux log.
The inside was very spacious and lined up along the walls were about 50 long tables for the various
troops at camp. Even in this large room, there wasn t always enough space to fit the scouts from all the
troops, so it was safe to say that my patrol had a lot of competition. All the patrols would compete for
a trophy (a carved block of wood, painted yellow and with the purple letters CP stating: FIRST
PLACE). Each troop usually has more than one patrol, each patrol being about 5 10 people, so my
troop (of about 25 people) had two. When we were all let loose from the cabin like meal house to
compete in various team building activities and compete in stations set around the camp (stations such
as fire starting, knotting, and building shelters), my patrol started sprinting over the hills and

Dreaming In Cuban Analysis
Dreaming in Cuban is a novel written by Cristina García that examines three generations of a Cuban
family. There is a political in divide in the family, as there are members who support Cuba s
communist agenda and members of the family who oppose it. The political divide leads to separation.
The separation of the family members results in miscommunication. Each member of the family holds
strong beliefs and are unwilling to communicate the different conflicts that exists within their family.
García uses the theme of miscommunication to show how these characters create their own perception
of Cuba to cope with separation. Celia, is the mother of Lourdes and grandmother of Lourdes daughter

Celia speaks to her and Pilar receives her message. García incorporates this element of magical
realism to show that they both desperately want a relationship, but the distance and family conflict
only brings the two further apart. The lack of communication between the two allows them to create
their own versions of each other. Celia knows that Pilar wears overalls like a farmhand and paints
canvases with knots and whorls of red that resemble nothing at all (García, 7). Not only does Celia
envision what Pilar looks like, but she also envisions Pilar creating an abstract painting. Celia also
envisions Pilar as being pale and cold from malnutrition, this image reflects how Celia feels about her
daughter Lourdes. Celia does not trust that her daughter is a good mother and knows how to nourish a
child. Celia also states that she knows about Pilar s secret diary and how Pilar keeps it hidden from her
mother. The thought of Pilar hiding her diary and not allowing her mother to invade her privacy makes
Celia happy. Celia takes pleasure in knowing that Pilar defies her mother. Celia believes her daughter
is a traitor and knows that her granddaughter desires to return to Cuba and live with

The herpes virus is one of the most prevalent viral diseases known to man. As much as eighty percent
of all people, worldwide, have herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), and twenty percent have herpes
simplex virus type 2 (HSV2). This may sound like scary statistics, but most infected people suffer
only mild discomfort. The more common form, HSV1, usually causes the occasional blister like sores
on or around the mouth. These blisters are called cold sores or fever blisters and, as most sufferers
know, they are annoying and mildly painful but rarely dangerous. If the sores are left alone, they will
generally heal up in five to twenty days. The less common version, HSV2, has the same symptoms

Some viruses also have an outer bag of lipo protein called an envelope. After a virus attaches to a
living cell, it either enters the cell to release the genetic information, or, the virus injects the
information through the cells outer lining. Thus changing the cells natural functions and forcing the
cell to spend its energy to create copies of the virus. The cell will go on making copies of the virus
until the cell is used up and dies. The virus then leaves the dead cell and invades a nearby cell and the
process starts all over. There are five types of human herpes virus: Varicella zoster which causes
chickenpox, Epstein Barr virus which causes infectious mononucleosis, cytomegalovirus which can
cause cytomegalic inclusion disease in infants, and herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2.
Herpes Simplex Viruses 1 and 2 Oates states that the herpes virus [HSV1 2] is a roughly rounded

virus is transferred through body to body contact, most commonly when sores are present. However,
the virus can be spread when there are no signs or symptoms of an outbreak. HSV usually infects the
mucous membranes around the mouth or genital areas, but sores can form anywhere on the body.

China has been a communist country since the communist revolution took place in 1949, since then
China has been ruled by the dictator Mao Tse Tung. However the Chinese dictator died in September
1976, he was hailed abroad as one of the worlds great leaders. Certainly one of the more impressive
aspects of the Chinese communist government, has been the willingness of the people to protest

1895. As a result of Japan s victory over Russia in 1905, China s constitutional reform movement
gathered momentum. This forced the Manchu government by public opinion to make gestures of
preparation for a constitutional government, an act to which reformers in exile responded
enthusiastically by establishing a Political Participation Society (Cheng wen she) (1, pg.84). The
apparent willingness of the Manchu government to consider constitutional reform naturally removed
some of the assumptions for revolution and impeded its progress. This helped to sharpen the already
intense conflicts that occurred between the reformists and the revolutionaries. In efforts to check this
unfavorable tide, the Chinese student revolutionaries in Tokyo extended their war of words to physical

Differences And Classification Of Depalma And Cautilli
Classification
DePalma and Cautilli first emphasized the difference between fractures with and without dislocation
of the joint surfaces. Neer subsequently modified and emphasized this fracture type in his classic four
part classification scheme.
Codman in 1934 was the first to observe that there were four major fracture fragments when a
proximal humerus fracture occurred, and that these occurred in varying combinations depending on
the mechanism of injury . These fragments were the articular head, the greater and lesser tuberosities,
and the humeral shaft.1,2,122

Here are some of the benefits provided by SCM: * Purchasing SCM offers an advantage of making it
easier for companies to manage all aspects of purchasing and production. Companies using this
system develop a set of metrics to monitor the supply of goods. This metric system promotes
purchasing raw products both in an efficient manner and in a way that customers receive high quality
in goods produced. * Collaboration SCM develops a chain of businesses to work with. This group of
interconnected businesses works together for one main goal: to provide customers with the goods and
services they demand. SCM systems choose suppliers for raw products as well as distributors. The
company uses different suppliers and distributors based on customer demand. * Lower Costs These
systems use many suppliers and distributors, allowing a company to choose the most cost effective
ones. An SCM system helps companies plan how much raw material is needed to meet customer
demand. This allows companies to have a lower amount of inventory on hand at all times. Purchasing
agents can then identify ways to save money when purchasing raw products. * Cycle Time A cycle
refers to the amount of time it takes a business to complete an entire process. When the methods of
SCM are used, the most efficient means of operations are discovered. This helps improve the time it
takes to complete a cycle. In short, successfully

Polarisation is a term that usually refers to extreme of two extreme situations . In this context, social
polarisation is examined in detail. Social polarisation is an expression associated with the segregation
within a society that may emerge from income inequality, real estate fluctuations, economic
displacements etc. and result in such differentiation that would consist of various social groups, from

In addition, there was a decline in middle income, blue collar jobs of the manufacturing sector. It can
be argued that however, the growth of employment in the clerks and service workers and shop and
market sales workers (see table 1) contradicts the theory. This occupational group mainly consists of
middle income occupation and their growth made up for the loss of those in the middle income
manufacturing sector. It can be concluded that although Cape Town has seen a marginally polarizing
employment growth (Borel Saladin, Crankshaw, 2009; 658) in the past twenty years, it has not seen an
absolute decline in middle income employment and therefore does not agree with the social polarizing

also has strong economic links with Hong Kong and Singapore will allow the reader to understand the
contention of polarisation in the contemporary world. It can be argued that professionalization is

Salsa is a popular dance music developed in the Latino barrios of New York City in the Latino barrios

and fewer yet have made it to United States, either before or after the first immigrant wave of
Colombian began in the late 1940s. Then, the writer discuss that some forms of coastal music and

Quentin Tarantino Essay
Quentin Tarantino Blood, gore, and a lot of language; you will find this is most Quentin Tarantino
movies. Although, this is what makes him such a writer and director. Quentin Tarantino is not only a
fantastic screenplay writer, but he also pushes the limit of intense plots of drama, and mostly violence.
As a great director, who changes the world of filmmaking, Quentin Tarantino is one of the most
unique directors/writers, today. Born March 27, 1963, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Quentin Jerome
Tarantino did not have a very normal childhood (Fact Monster). He was raised by a single mother,
who had many struggles (Fact Monster). At age 16, after completing 9th grade, he dropped out of high
school (Biography Reference Bank). He absolutely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an amazing achievement, and it is astonishing, with his lack of education. The movies that
Tarantino makes are not just violent, but have a great storyline, which he writes. His most famous
movies include: Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill Vol. 1 2, and the
newest one, Inglourious Basterds (IMDb). Other, less famous ones are: Jackie Brown and Grindhouse
(a double feature consisting of Planet Terror, and Death Proof) (IMDb). To this day, people still talk
about how great of a movie Pulp Fiction is. These movies are well known for their graphic violence,
and sometimes profanity. Most violence in Tarantino s movies is of shootings, but not in all cases. In
Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction the violence consists of graphic, detailed, hard to watch gun scenes.
These are exceptionally gory, and are usually on screen. In his Kill Bill series, it is mostly death by
sword, the weapon of choice for the main character. Inglourious Basterds is a whole different ball
field. No pun intended, since a man is beaten to death with a baseball bat in this particular movie. The
deaths vary from graphic shootings, with lots of blood splatter, to carving swastikas into men s heads,
to shooting an already dead man s face apart in explicit, extremely life like detail. The twisted mind of
Quentin Tarantino allows him to write, direct, and watch these scenes with no sort of cringe, but

Summary Of Bram Stoker s Vampire Religion
Often, when we think of certain situations it makes us feel uncomfortable or gives us goosebumps.
The thought of vampires automatically makes me think of blood, fire and evil activities. I have always
wondered why vampires seem to not like rosary. As I read Dracula I noticed that he did not like rosary
which is associated with Christ. After reading Dracula, I was able to determine that it is not the rosary
object itself, but the thought of what the object actually is. Bram Stoker s version of Dracula was
associated with a Christian theme. Dracula was evil which would typically not be associated with
anything Christian like so he was opposed to it. The article that was the most appealing to me relating
to Dracula and religion is called Vampire Religion by Christopher Herbert. The article expressed the
religious symbols in Bram Stoker s Dracula. The article also discussed how the people of Transylvania
were very superstitious. Herbert goes on to discuss how Stoker incorporates Christianity and
vampirism in Dracula. Herbert s article interested me because I noticed how Dracula s actions and
Jonathan Harker s beliefs clashed in the book. Moreover, Herbert s article spoke in depth about the
various religious symbols shown in Stoker s Dracula. Herbert stated, Its characters pray constantly for
the intercession of Almighty God in their struggles with the demonic; they cross themselves, brandish
crucifixes, and invoke the protective powers of communion wafers (Herbert 100).

Nursing As A Career Choice
Nursing as a Сareer Сhoice.
Anna Leonova
Trent University
Nursing as a career choice. As Mother Teresa said: It is not how much you do but how much love you
put in the doing . These words can not but be common for nurses all over the world. Well, what makes
them love their profession? How did people decide to make nursing their career choice? What are the
reasons for people to start such a way of life? As it goes without saying, nursing can not be called a
profession or job only. It is something very special that totally changes your life. First of all, it is very
important to understand what nursing really is, what kind of responsibilities it includes. If we search
for the meaning of the word nurse , we will find such explanations as: Nurse a person educated and
trained to care for the sick or disabled (Dictionary by Farlex (n.d.), Nurse one who is especially
prepared in the scientific basis of nursing and who meets certain prescribed standards of education and
clinical competence (Saunders, Dorland s Medical Dictionary for Health Consumers, 2007).
According to the American Nurses Association: Nursing is the protection, promotion, and
optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through
the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families,
communities, and populations . All these options combined means that nursing is an integral

Old Ben And Fox Hunt Comparison Essay
Some things can be very similar, but also very different. For example, stories can be different. They
have different plots and different authors, but they can also have similar elements and plot ideas. Some
examples of that in a story could be that a character makes a friend, or attempts to achieve a goal. In
this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting Old Ben and Fox Hunt , two stories with different plots
and similar elements. While some similarities are evident between Old Ben and Fox Hunt , the
differences are also distinct.
There are many similarities between Old Ben and Fox Hunt . One of them is the use of foreshadowing
in both narratives. Foreshadowing is when there are indications throughout the text that hint at events
to come. In Old Ben , it is foreshadowed that the snake will die in the end. In Fox Hunt , it is
foreshadowed that Lee is the fox spirit. Another similarity is that the two stories both have main
characters that are either animals, or have animal characteristics, such as Ben from Old Ben , who is a
snake, and Andy, from Fox Hunt , who is part fox. A closing similarity is that both of the stories use
narrative structure. Narrative structure is when a narrative is arranged in chronological order. Looking
at these examples, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conversely, there are also distinct differences. One of those differences is Fox Hunt using flashbacks
to tell a story. Flashbacks inform you of events that happened in the past. Old Ben does not use any
flashbacks at all. A second difference is that Old Ben transpires over a longer period of time; months
pass during the story. In Fox Hunt , the story only takes place over a few weeks. A concluding
difference is that Fox Hunt uses fantasy ideas, such as fox spirits, while Old Ben does not, and only
uses real life ideas. Therefore, Old Ben and Fox Hunt are quite different in many

  • 2. The Lexical Decision Task Shows Evidence Towards Readiness The Lexical Decision task shows evidence towards readiness to recall and semantic memories used in the form of associations based on relatedness of words in the experiment. This experiment is important because it attempts to understand how people develop, store, and use memories to their advantage. Additionally, the Lexical Decision Task attempts to explain why how long term memory is used and under what circumstances it is recovered. Memory is a crucial part of life for most people. It is the way that we participate in our every day lives. Without memories, people would not be able to build relationships with others, learn valuable survival and intellectual skills, or even retain that eating and drinking water is how humans stay alive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From short term memory, there will be an encoding and retrieval process where long term memory will be developed. There, some of the information is retained and some of it is lost over a passage of time. The long term memory stage has the longest potential duration and can be recalled for years after initial understanding. Evidence to support this model comes from an experiment published in the Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior in 1966 by Murray Glanzer and Anita Cunitz. There experiment showed the serial position effects known as primacy, words at the beginning of a list are more easily recalled, and recency, words at the end of a list are more easily recalled. These result supported Atkinson and Shiffrin s model by showing that long term memory and short term memory were separate stages. The recency effect showed that words in short term memory were more easily remembered. While the primacy effect showed that words in long term memory were more easily remembered because they had been rehearsed (Glanzer and Cunitz, 1966). Because of the simplicity of the modal model presented by Glanzer and Cunitz in 1966, there were several critiques that provided doubt to the accuracy of the model. Two of these critiques were Alan Baddeley and Graham Hitch, who believed they could build off of Glanzer and Cunitz s model to produce a stronger illustration of short term memory (working memory). A significant addition to their model ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Research Paper On Beowulf The Anglo Saxon period stretched for over six hundred years, 410 to 1066. This period is often referred to as the Dark Ages because the written documents from this era have become scarce. This period was a time of war, separation of kingdoms, and religious conversions. The Anglo Saxon s were a group of people descending from the German regions of Angeln and Saxon. They cultivated Britain after the great fall of the Roman Empire around AD 410. ` As the Anglo Saxon s settled in, the Jutes and the Frisians from Denmark were also settling in the British Isles, but the Anglo Saxon settlers set their rules and became their own masters in a new land. Throughout the period the Anglo Saxon s broke off into seven known kingdoms: Kent, Mercia, Northumbria, East Anglia, Essex, Sussex, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around 850 the seven kingdoms consolidated into three kingdoms: Northumbria, Mercia, and Wessex. Many Roman ways in their past culture were set aside in their new culture; they replaced the Roman stone buildings with their own wooden ones, and spoke their own language, which gave rise to the modern English spoken today. Although many spoke in different dialects, which over time became known as Old English. Famous literature emerged in this era: the poem Beowulf and the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, which both cover events in the early history of England. The Anglo Saxon s followed their own religious beliefs until the arrival of Saint Augustine in AD 597, which lead to the conversion of Christianity. This period was very religious and Christianity flourished throughout the Kingdoms. The social order of the Anglo Saxon s had four tiers: kings, thanes, churls, and slaves. The kings ruled over the kingdoms and were always on top. Thanes were very powerful men who reported to the king, and also had influence on the king. Thanes could also own land. Below the ... • 4. The Black Power Movement During The 1950 S The Black Power Movement took place during the 1950 s into the early 60 s. The point of the movement was to achieve civil rights for African Americans. Martin Luther King was a major influence during the early stages of the movement. Many people turned to the Black Panthers, founded by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, because they felt that nonviolence was not the answer to achieving civil rights. The Black Power Movement unsuccessfully tried to change the economic and social inequalities of blacks, because today many blacks are still treated socially and economically inferior to whites. One reason the Black Power Movement was unsuccessful is the economic insecurities of blacks in today s society. A major reason for the high rate of poverty of blacks is what is known as the double burden of poverty. This double burden of poverty is when a person is poor, but also surrounded by a neighborhood that is just as poor. One cannot expect to get help, or have a better life, when one is surrounded by those who are in the same situation as them. Chicago is a perfect example of a city whose poverty rate is extremely high. Statistics show in the, five year American Community Survey data from 2009 2013, more than a third of all poor African Americans in metropolitan Chicago live in high poverty census tracts (Badger). The survey reveals that the poverty rate in Chicago during this time span was over 40% and was ten times higher than poor whites. Many communities today are still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why We Crave Horror Movies by Stephen King Essay Analysis of Why We Crave Horror Movies Thesis: Stephen King never clearly states the thesis of this essay however there is enough information provided that we can infer one. We need to keep our inner lyncher at bay by feeding ourselves with small portions of demonic, bloody, violence, found in horror movies. King writes It deliberately appeals to all the worst in us. It is morbidity unchained, our most base instincts let free, our nastiest fantasies realized... King goes on to say if, on the other hand, your insanity leads you only to talk to yourself when you re under stress to pick your nose on your morning bus, then you are left alone to go about your day. (paragraph 8). This makes the essay relative and more comprehensible for the reader. We all do slightly crazy things from time to time (whether we want to admit it or not is entirely up to us), so King is able to use this method to help get his message through to the reader. One critic has suggested that if pro football has become the voyeur s version of combat, then the horror film has become the modern version of public lynching. (paragraph 6) This is a prime example of one of the many argumentative strategies in the essay. Not only does the said quote prove that King s opinion is shared by others but also that it appeals to authority. By including an experts shared opinion on the matter, King s argument becomes much more compelling. To show that we can, to show that we are not afraid, that we can ride this roller coaster (paragraph 3) is an extremely effective metaphor king uses to help better describe why we go to see movies in the first place. We ve all been on a roller coaster before so we can easily relate to what the author is explaining to us. • 9. Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific... Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social problems. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their prior work led to the development of Sociology in America. Sociologists throughout the decades have sought to develop a scientific approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and discrimination. Early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following that, they had to nominate a spokesperson, who had to share their sentence with the entire class. Students were then given 10 seconds to change sides if the argument presented by the other side was persuasive enough. Within their small group, they then had 2 minutes to discuss as many arguments as possible, before pitching these arguments to the other group. Then the teacher summarised all the arguments that the students presented, writing them on the board. After asking if there were any further questions, the teacher would read out a new statement and the class would repeat the activity. At the end of the class the teacher explained that the purpose of the activity was to get students to work together to consider the multifaceted nature of ethical dilemmas. Through discussion, students were able to improve their social and emotional development, and further heighten their sense of morality. Covenants: We can notice that in the early fiscal 2000, WHCL increased its debt significantly, and the company had attached several covenants specifying that debt to equity ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this would certainly increase the audit risk. If the company has violated the covenants, the auditor should disclose that in the financial statement. Warranty (Estimated Expense): In 1994, WHCL introduced a new model of gas furnace and these products are sold with ten year warranties on parts and labor. Although this marketing strategy can attract more customers to buy their product, the increased long term warranty claims will increase company s warranty expense, and lower their future profit. The most serious accounting problem for WHCL is the warranty potential liability. The increasing liability concern is because WHCL sold a new model of gas furnace with 10 year warranties in 1994. So we need to consider how much repair costs should be reported in the 2000 financial statements. As we know, cost of repairing each furnace was $150, and there are 30 claims were made. So we need to record 30 x $150=$4500 in warranty expenses in 2000 financial statement. Another problem for us is the information we currently collect cannot let us make an accurate estimate. Apparently, WHCL don t want to record too much costs in current period, but the fact is they require a large amount of accrual. If the estimate is low, then the costs we ... • 22. How Did Julius Caesar Invade Britain Intro Roman Britain, or Britannia, was the name of England and Wales when they were ruled by the Romans. Julius Caesar was the first of the Roman emperors to invade Britain. The native Britons were overrun by other Celtic tribes. These tribes however aided Caesar s enemies, thus the need to invade Britain. But it wasn t until a hundred years later that the Romans actually ruled Roman Britain, thanks to the defenses of the Celtic tribes. Culture The Romans brought culture to Ancient Britain. They built brick and stone buildings with central heating, sewage systems, paved roads, libraries etc. The Romans also brought their language to Britain: Latin. Housing The floor on which someone lived depended on his or her income. The lower apartments ground or first floor were more comfortable than the top floors. They were spacious, had separate rooms for dining and sleeping, they had windows and had access to running water. The higher floors however usually housed an entire family per room. There was no natural light, no running water and thus no private toilets. Instead, they often had to use public toilets, or dump their waste outside. Databases can vary in sizes, ranging from very small and simple to very large and complex ones. Database users can access the data practically in an unlimited number of ways. Relational databases help in finding the information in a quick and efficient manner that one is looking for.Today many popular databases use the model of relational database. The invention of relational databases have brought a number of changes to the business world in which they operate specially for the businesses whose prime focus is on its customers, their likes and dislikes to win more market share. There is no such concept as one size fits all in using this technology, it varies from industry to industry. One thing may work for some businesses and may not work for others, therefore it is advisable that one should shop around before investing in any of the technologies because it is vital to find an industry specific solution. One technique to narrow the search for industry specific solutions is to find out what our competitors are using to gain more customer base. When it comes to customers, the use of relational database management systems can help in linking various features of business electronically, like connecting a customer with specific product ... My Summer Camp It was the last day of my summer camp, the night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all their gear and leave the coast of the Puget Sound, and go back to the suburbia where most of the kids in the troop lived. The Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols, in a large grass covered area, bordering a beach and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees, and was overlooked by a very large cabin like building, which acted as the meal room for all the troops at camp. Table 1 Sydney, Australia is the second case study this essay will discuss, many of the scholars who analysed the social polarization thesis only looked at cities within the US or Europe, although helpful it can limit empirical discussion (Baum, 1997; 1882). Therefore looking at a global city out of this zone that also has strong economic links with Hong Kong and Singapore will allow the reader to understand the contention of polarisation in the contemporary world. • 44. Quentin Tarantino Essay Quentin Tarantino Blood, gore, and a lot of language; you will find this is most Quentin Tarantino movies. Although, this is what makes him such a writer and director. Quentin Tarantino is not only a fantastic screenplay writer, but he also pushes the limit of intense plots of drama, and mostly violence. As a great director, who changes the world of filmmaking, Quentin Tarantino is one of the most unique directors/writers, today. Born March 27, 1963, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Quentin Jerome Tarantino did not have a very normal childhood (Fact Monster). He was raised by a single mother, who had many struggles (Fact Monster). This is an amazing achievement, and it is astonishing, with his lack of education. The movies that Tarantino makes are not just violent, but have a great storyline, which he writes. His most famous movies include: Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill Vol. 1 2, and the newest one, Inglourious Basterds (IMDb). Other, less famous ones are: Jackie Brown and Grindhouse (a double feature consisting of Planet Terror, and Death Proof) (IMDb). To this day, people still talk about how great of a movie Pulp Fiction is. These movies are well known for their graphic violence, and sometimes profanity. Most violence in Tarantino s movies is of shootings, but not in all cases. In Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction the violence consists of graphic, detailed, hard to watch gun scenes. These are exceptionally gory, and are usually on screen. In his Kill Bill series, it is mostly death by sword, the weapon of choice for the main character. Inglourious Basterds is a whole different ball field. No pun intended, since a man is beaten to death with a baseball bat in this particular movie. The deaths vary from graphic shootings, with lots of blood splatter, to carving swastikas into men s heads, to shooting an already dead man s face apart in explicit, extremely life like detail. The twisted mind of Quentin Tarantino allows him to write, direct, and watch these scenes with no sort of cringe, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Summary Of Bram Stoker s Vampire Religion Often, when we think of certain situations it makes us feel uncomfortable or gives us goosebumps. The thought of vampires automatically makes me think of blood, fire and evil activities. I have always wondered why vampires seem to not like rosary. As I read Dracula I noticed that he did not like rosary which is associated with Christ. After reading Dracula, I was able to determine that it is not the rosary object itself, but the thought of what the object actually is. Bram Stoker s version of Dracula was associated with a Christian theme. Dracula was evil which would typically not be associated with anything Christian like so he was opposed to it. The article that was the most appealing to me relating to Dracula and religion is called Vampire Religion by Christopher Herbert. The article expressed the religious symbols in Bram Stoker s Dracula. The article also discussed how the people of Transylvania were very superstitious. Herbert goes on to discuss how Stoker incorporates Christianity and vampirism in Dracula. Herbert s article interested me because I noticed how Dracula s actions and Jonathan Harker s beliefs clashed in the book. Moreover, Herbert s article spoke in depth about the various religious symbols shown in Stoker s Dracula. Herbert stated, Its characters pray constantly for the intercession of Almighty God in their struggles with the demonic; they cross themselves, brandish crucifixes, and invoke the protective powers of communion wafers (Herbert 100). ... As Mother Teresa said: It is not how much you do but how much love you put in the doing . These words can not but be common for nurses all over the world. Well, what makes them love their profession? How did people decide to make nursing their career choice? What are the reasons for people to start such a way of life? As it goes without saying, nursing can not be called a profession or job only. It is something very special that totally changes your life. First of all, it is very important to understand what nursing really is, what kind of responsibilities it includes. If we search for the meaning of the word nurse , we will find such explanations as: Nurse a person educated and trained to care for the sick or disabled (Dictionary by Farlex (n.d.), Nurse one who is especially prepared in the scientific basis of nursing and who meets certain prescribed standards of education and clinical competence (Saunders, Dorland s Medical Dictionary for Health Consumers, 2007). According to the American Nurses Association: Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations . They have different plots and different authors, but they can also have similar elements and plot ideas. Some examples of that in a story could be that a character makes a friend, or attempts to achieve a goal. In this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting Old Ben and Fox Hunt , two stories with different plots and similar elements. While some similarities are evident between Old Ben and Fox Hunt , the differences are also distinct. There are many similarities between Old Ben and Fox Hunt . One of them is the use of foreshadowing in both narratives. Foreshadowing is when there are indications throughout the text that hint at events to come. In Old Ben , it is foreshadowed that the snake will die in the end. In Fox Hunt , it is foreshadowed that Lee is the fox spirit. Another similarity is that the two stories both have main characters that are either animals, or have animal characteristics, such as Ben from Old Ben , who is a snake, and Andy, from Fox Hunt , who is part fox. A closing similarity is that both of the stories use narrative structure. Narrative structure is when a narrative is arranged in chronological order. Looking at these examples, we ... Flashbacks inform you of events that happened in the past. Old Ben does not use any flashbacks at all. A second difference is that Old Ben transpires over a longer period of time; months pass during the story. In Fox Hunt , the story only takes place over a few weeks. A concluding difference is that Fox Hunt uses fantasy ideas, such as fox spirits, while Old Ben does not, and only uses real life ideas. Therefore, Old Ben and Fox Hunt are quite different in many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
