Fear of public speaking Essay
Your chest is tight and you feel like you re on fire. Your chest is tight ant you re burning up. The
flash cards in your hands are crumpled from you squeezing them obsessively. You look up and see
dozens of eyes staring at you, waiting expectantly. Taking a deep breath, you stumble through the
speech. When it s finally over, you practically run back to your seat, cheeks flaming bright red.
You slump down, already dreading the next time you ll have to deal with your upmost fear: public
speaking. For as long as I can remember, public speaking has always been one of my greatest
weaknesses. Whether it s a simple in class presentation or a speech in front of an auditorium filled
with people, I can barely get my words out from the anxietyand... Show more content on

I used the search engine Google with the search term public speaking fear and it brought up a
great deal of interesting websites pertaining to public speaking. The first one I decided to peruse
was 5 Tips to Reduce the Fear of Public Speaking on Psychology Today s website. I learned that
public speaking is the number one fear in America, while the fear of death is second in line. This
means that we re more afraid of speaking in public than we are of dying. I also learned five tips on
how to reduce public speaking nervousness.
The first one was Don t Expect Perfection from Yourself. No one is perfect but when it comes
time to speak in public, some of us pick at every little flaw we think we make. We blow up our
imperfections yet ignore the good things. Honestly, though, even the greatest and most experience
public speakers can make a lot of mistakes. The difference is, when they do, they re able to
gracefully recover and keep going as if nothing happened. That s one of the keys to success: keep
going gracefully. Most of the time, the audience won t notice most of your mistakes unless you
make them obvious by stopping your speech, breaking down and admitting your mistakes. You just
have to carry through with poise and let yourself not be perfect.
The second tip was Avoid Equating Public Speaking to Your Self Worth. Basically, if you re a
successful professional who s worked hard for where they are in life right now, you

Comparing The Three Abrahamic Religions Of Spain
While there have been many differences among the three Abrahamic religions, there was a rich
cultural interchange between them that took place during the period of Islamic Spain. Not only
they managed to set aside their differences and coexist, but they also contributed in the
development of arts, natural science, literature, mathematics, medicine, and many more; Inventions
that are crucial in today s world.
In the readings, most of the accomplishments made during the Golden Age are accredited to Islam,
but to me, it is suggested that all three religions contributed somehow. One of the aspects of the
reading that gave me the suggestion is the mentioning of the translation school in Toledo. This
school brought together Jews, Christians and Muslims and their original languages to translate
them into the Latin language, which at the time it was the language used in churches in parts of
Spain. Works of important philosophers and scientists that had been translated into Arabic in the
House of Wisdom beforehand, were now well known in al Andalus, Cordoba, Toledo, and other
parts of Spain because of the coexistence of these three religions.
Additionally, this time of learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was more about having power and being the best. It came to the point where religion was involved
with the government. It s understandable that there are differences in beliefs, but not agreeing
with someone else s beliefs does not necessarily means that what you think is right. It s all about
accepting and respecting others. Even in all three religions there is some type of rule that says to
respect one another despite the differences. But when politics get involved everything changes.
People with power take religion a use it in misleading

Stanford Prison Experiment Philip G Zimbardo
The Stanford Prison Experiment was created by Philip G. Zimbardo, a psychologist, and
professor who taught at Stanford. The experiment s goal was to study how easily one will adapt
to roles that are assigned to them. The study began with volunteers who were randomly assigned to
become either prisoners or guards. It didn t take long for the guards to harass the prisoners. On the
second day of the experiment, the prisoners started to rebel and test the guard s boundaries. In an
attempt to keep the prisoners in line, the guards started to use physical violence; which was against
the rules. The guards became more and more violent every day, the amount of abuse the guards
displayed was totally unexpected.
One benefit of the experiment was that it showed how easily one can adopt a new persona when
put into different situations and environments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A tactic used by the guards to emotionally abuse the prisoners was giving the inmates a number,
instead of calling them by name. The guards were dehumanizing the prisoners. Another example of
dehumanization is when the prisoner first arrived, they were stripped of their clothes and put into
dresses. The physical abuse the guards put the prisoners through is another downside of the
experiment. The guards made them do push ups and other physical activity as a form of
punishment. To make it harder, some had other prisoners on their back while doing the push ups.
I believe this experiment is useful for several reasons. The first reason is it a great example of how
easily people can conform to the roles that they are given. Another reason is that it didn t cause any
extensive emotional or physical suffering after the experiment. This experiment also teaches other
researchers what not to do. Despite the important findings, I do not think that any similar
experiments should happen again because of the abuse some students

Early Gothic Cathedral
An example of an early gothic cathedral is the Wells Cathedral, Somerset. It was built from 1175
1490s. It holds one of the most numbers of stained glass windows. The five windows in the Lady
Chapel shows images of saint Dunstan, and the seven light windows on the choir which portrays
the Tree of Jesse. This is a representation of the genealogy of Christ. Most of the carvings on the
abacus are a foliage motif, but the carvings on the transepts closer to the nave holds more
symbolism. They show four scenes representing the Wages of Sin through narrating fruit stealers at
an orchard being beaten by the farmer. Another symbolic carving found is the lizard climbing the
abacus, which represents eternal life. A 15th Century cloister contains many... Show more content

The internal plan of the cathedral are greater in length relative to the width, and consists of a
nave or central vessel with aisles at both sides and transepts which make the arms of a cathedral
plan and creating a cross shape when viewed in plan. When the transepts are applied, it is normal
to have them placed directly opposite of each other, for example like in Lichfield Cathedral. The
Eastern side is where the most value is held in the Cathedral, which is marked by greater
diversity in form, richness, and height difference of the ribbed vault. In England, the Eastern
section is almost always a square form or similar, and less often an apse, which is a more semi
circular or polygonal in plan. [2] The internal section of cathedrals are made up of a main arcade,
which are arches supported by long and thin pillars. [2] Above that is the Triforium, and a
Gallery surrounding it and above the aisle. On the highest level is the Clerestory, topped by the
ribbed vault and the new roof. The roof is often enriched with tiles or other coverings. Ornaments
such as mouldings, carvings and the use of colour have added a point of interest and beauty to
the gothic cathedral. The gables, a triangular shaped wall forming the roof, is one of the most
distinctive gothic characteristic. It is placed at the end of the nave and transepts. As a widely used
rule, gables contain one or more windows. It creates space for a huge stained glass windows are

Colonists Vs Loyalists
On the road to the American Revolution, the colonists could either choose to be a loyalist or a
patriot. It all depends on how that certain colonist thought was better for their family. themselves,
and the rest of the colonies. When thinking of the loyalist, people might think that there were a lot
of them but really only 20% of the population of the colonies were loyalist. They lived in all
colonies, both rural and urban areas. Some areas had more loyalist like New York and the
Carolinas. They were appointed by the crown, successful merchants, Quakers because they were
pacifist, and many more. Germans, Native and African Americans, and indentured servants were
mostly loyalist because Britain promised their freedom for the loyalty. The loyalist

Ethical Issues In The Free State Of Jones
The Free State of Jones is based on the true story of Newton Knight who was a nurse for the
confederate army during the American Civil War. The movie begins by showing a battle and
then Knight coming through and pulling out some of the wounded and taking them to a field
hospital. After we witness the gruesomeness of the war we are showed Knight s and other s
opinion on serving. Director Gary Ross does this by having soldiers discuss a new law that
states that if a man owns 20 or more slaves he is dismissed from duty to return and run his
plantation. Many of the soldiers are like Knight who is poor and cannot afford to own any
slaves. So, he is serving in a war for a side that victory would not benefit him. That same night
Knight s nephew Daniel showed up at camp. He is extremely young but since he is poor and
healthy he must serve. On Daniel s first day Newt accompanies him into battle. During the battle
Daniel is shot in the chest. Newt takes him back to the doctors where he is denied help because
they are only helping captains and officers due to the overwhelming amount of bodies. Daniel ends
up succumbing to his injuries and dies later that day. Following his... Show more content on

Some of the messages are clear while others are ambiguous. One the major topics that is addressed
by the movie is racism. It is clear how racism impacts this story but the real message involving race
is questionable. For example, the runaway slaves were just sitting in the swamp with no plan
how to improve their situation. However, once Knight shows up he is able to lead and turn the
situation around for them. The best symbol of this is when he removes the slave collar from
Moses neck. Moses had become content with his situation and was not concerned with removing
it but it takes Knight to remove it. This seems to be a symbol of blacks not being able to lead and

Trader Joe s Marketing Model
Introduction Founded in 1958 by Joe Coulombe and now established with more than 365 stores in
the United States, Trader Joe s has been serving customers with their unique business model.
Trader Joe s specializes in organic and natural food offering staples like milk, eggs, and other
foods with below average price points. Trader Joe s encourage their customers to buy the product at
a low price without having to be registered with the store. Once the company makes contacts with
the manufacturer of the particular foodproduct, it then establishes contracts with the producer to the
supply the food and allocates the space needed in their store (Trader Joe s, 2016).
Analysis
Trader Joe s sells gourmet foods to its customers with a low cost business model, which may
seem very difficult to maintain, due to the rising costs in the international markets and the United
States. However, with Trader Joe s long term experience in operations and limited variety of
products, this enables the company to reduce costs and transfer those savings to their customers.
Furthermore, Trader Joe s has a very efficient management process that allows keeping the product
costs down to keep their customers satisfied. The management process is very significant for
Trader Joe s in which they have planned marvelously to carry certain products which is obtained at
a discounted price from their suppliers. Additionally, Trader Joe s keep costs down to a minimum
by choosing non prime store locations. For

Analysis Of Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior
Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior Critique
The article, Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior, seemed like it had completely inflamed the entire
United States due to the content that the author and Yale Law School professor, Amy Chua had
included in her writing. This Chinese mother described her parenting style as superior and all
knowing compared to the parenting style of the common Western parentwhich was described as
anxious and conflicted.
The article follows the structure of the chinese mothers parenting style. This parenting style can be
described as very strict, very demanding, and extremely tenacious. The reason for this is the fact
that chinese mothers are giving the child very little to almost zero say in what they want to do or ...

After she explains her points, she gets into a story about her and her seven year old daughter.
She sets the scene by telling us that her daughter is learning a new song on the piano. To make a
long story short, Chau threatened her daughter by saying she would receive no food or christmas
presents if she did not learn the song. She would not let her seven year old daughter get and use
the bathroom until she recited the song perfectly. All of a sudden, her daughter learned the song
after all the long hours of non stop arguing and yelling and practice.
The first thing that really caught my eye was a statement by Chau saying that, Chinese parents
understand that nothing is fun until you re good at it. (Chau 262). Many people would
completely disagree because there are plenty of things that are fun, even if you are not good at
them. Someone could love to draw or play a sport and be bad at it at the same time and that is
completely okay. You should not have to be the best at everything you do because no matter what
you may be good at, there is always someone better than you or someone that will think that they or
someone else is better than you.
Even though there are plenty of statements in this article that I disagree with, there is a few that I
do agree with. Towards the end of the article Chau makes a very valid point about self esteem:
There s nothing better for building confidence than learning you can do something you thought

They upgrading a hotel first upgraded employee facilities. When a survey at London hotel
showed dissatisfaction with workers areas, installed new floors, lockers, and showers within

waiters, cooks, housekeepers, and dishwashers, the lowest paid and in most companies the least

seasons needs employees able and willing to respond on their own to whatever comes up,
employees who can spot, solve, and even anticipate problems. That means delegating authority as

confortable when they work in hotel because employees could bring positive attitude towards

rezoning from Open Use Rural, 1 unit/10 acres (OUR) to Residential Estate, 1 unit/2acres with a

Stereotypes Of Popular Music Since The 1950 s
Since the 1950s, popular music has been widely criticized for contributing to a variety of
problematic behaviors among adolescents (Brown). The new styles of music was important and
often blamed for causing teen rebellion, as the songs of this era were considered inappropriate and
the main cause of teens negative behavior; such as constant drinking and the abusing of alcohol
use, drug use, and the act of being extremely violent toward one another. Famous musical artist
such as Elvis Presley and the Beatles were usually associated with this rebellion. The Parents Music

Hemophilia was a royal pain that changed the course of history. Throughout Europe, hemophilia
directly affected the chains of succession in royal families and played a significant role in changing

Calculus As A Part Of Modern Mathematics Education
Calculus (from Latin calculus, literally small pebble used for counting )[1] is the mathematical
study of change, in the same way that geometry is the study of shape and algebra is the study of
operations and their application to solving equations. It has two major branches, differential
calculus (concerning rates of change and slopes of curves),[2] and integral calculus(concerning
accumulation of quantities and the areas under and between curves);[3] these two branches are
related to each other by the fundamental theorem of calculus. Both branches make use of the
fundamental notions of convergence of infinite sequences and infinite series to a well defined limit.
Generally, modern calculus is considered to have been developed in the 17th century by Isaac
Newton and Gottfried Leibniz. Today, calculus has widespread uses in science, engineering and
economics[4] and can solve many problems that elementary algebra alone cannot.
Calculus is a part of modern mathematics education. A course in calculus is a gateway to other,
more advanced courses in mathematics devoted to the study of functions and limits, broadly called
mathematical analysis. Calculus has historically been called the calculus of infinitesimals , or
infinitesimal calculus . Calculus (plural calculi) is also used for naming some methods of
calculation or theories of computation, such as propositional calculus, calculus of variations,
lambda calculus, and process calculus.

Bros Before Hos Analysis
In this comparative essay, I will be relating the points that are driven by the movie Crazy Stupid
Love and the narrative Bros before Hos by Kimmel. For some background information on these,
I will start by summarizing the movie Crazy Stupid Love. The movie Crazy Stupid love is about
a man named Cal who has lost what his Manliness Mentor calls his manhood or what we will be
calling it is his masculinity. Cal s wife leaves him to go be with another guy and all Cal can do is
pout around at bars until a sly, young, and smooth talking man(Jacob) comes to Jacobs rescue to
help him get his manhood back. Overall, this movie is a Romantic Comedy that has numerous
twists and turns in the plot to keep the viewer watching.
The Chapter Bros before Hos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be explained by a simple explanation. These men want to know the true meaning of
manhood and masculinity, perhaps the character and/or narrator are just the director/ author and
what they really are seeking to understand is the true ideas or perception of manhood in society.
What does the author show that the director does not? The author in hindsight shows a lot of
ideas that can be perceived as clichГ© and he shows numerous accounts of anecdotes, whereas
the director sticks to one line of the story and shows the evolution of Cal s masculinity, as it
starts as him being a less masculine, manly man. Then towards the end or near scene twenty one,
it is seen that he is a dominant male or alpha male. How are these ideas important to society and
what group are these pieces geared towards? The ideas are important to the male gender because
no matter what a man tells you they are always looking for the true ideas of manhood even if they
don t say so themselves; thus, these pieces (movie and narrative) are aimed towards intriguing the
males in society. In conclusion, we can see multiple key ideas presented by both the narrative and
the movie but the one key idea that sticks out and is Key to both plots is masculinity because
masculinity is defined and shown in both pieces, whether it is implicitly or

My Dad
When I woke up the morning of June 11th, 2008, I thought it was going to be a normal day, but,
I was wrong. Growing up, my mom told my sisters and I about my Uncle. How he was hot
tempered and did things that were crazy when he didn t get his way. My mom and his
relationship has always been tense. From what I ve seen, and from what she has told me. When
she got shot by him that day, it proved to me that she was right. It was just a normal day. My
mother sister, and I, driving around. My unclehad called and told us how he had gotten a new pit
bullpuppy, and he invited us over to come see it. We arrive, and this puppy is the cutest pup I ve
ever seen. She was brindle with blue eyes. My mom wanted to talk to my uncle about us keeping
her. While lying on the couch playing with the puppy, I look over and see my mom, sister, auntand
uncle sitting on the other couch. We were laughing, smiling, telling jokes. You wouldn t think a bad
thing would ever happen in the room. I know my mother and uncles relationship, an argument was
bound to spark over something simple. They began their routine of arguing back and forth.
Meanwhile, from what I could understand, they were fighting about the pup. Now, I know that

Why Should We Vote To Vote Essay
Different factors can determine how a person could vote such as religion, but this doesn t mean
that person with a factor will always vote that way. There are other things to consider as well, but
According to scientists, they have concluded from research that this is how the majority of the
group votes.
There are several religions in United States since we have freedom of religion such as Protestants,
Roman Catholics, and Jewish. Mainline Protestants are Presbyterians and Methodists which they
vote liberal, but other Protestants vote conservative. Mainline has traditional values but recently,
they have been adopting modern views such as bible verses should be interpreted in today s
world. They are accepting of other faiths or beliefs, open to LGBT and their rights, and having
women in their ordinances. Looking at how their beliefs are more open, this could be reason why
they vote liberal. Other Protestants are stricter values such as having prayer in school, abortion,
homosexuality and many more. Republicans are about family values and how to keep them in the

In history, they had stricter beliefs on several issues, but in recent years, they have become more
lenient which could be reason why they have voting for Democratic political party. Another
reason could be that Catholics are taught from early age not to focus on one issue when it comes
to politics, so the best option is to overweight what should work from them. According to
scientists, they are influenced by social justice issues such as education, taxes, the poor, and many
more, which could pull them more to Democrats since that is what they support. FDR was the
biggest influence on Catholics since the New Deal came into place. Democratic Political Party

The High Price Of Food
Today, the economic state of our world is highly connected and international. The global market
influences food accessibility and hunger on an exceedingly large scale. The global food
economy exists within a complex system that has widespread dire consequences if it finds itself
in a crisis like we are currently seeing. Until the year 2000, the world witnessed a thirty year
trend of decreasing food prices. While it is common perception that the global food crisis is
occurring due to shortages in supply and increasing demand, nearly a billion people are now
malnourished or starving due to financial speculation and a legacy of events put into motion by the
industrialized world. The high price of food has the largest impact on global hunger... Show more

Act of 2000 was passed to reduce systemic risk in markets for futures and over the counter

provide a statutory framework for allowing trading of futures on securities, and to enhance the
competitive position of the United States financial institutions and financial markets (H.R. 5660,

Commission requested that her commission have the power to regulate financial derivatives and
that an unregulated derivatives market would be a grave danger to the economy. Powerful actors
such as Federal Reserve Chairman at the time, Alan Greenspan, and large financial institutions saw

My Favorite Memory Research Paper
Music has always been a big part of my life. It has gotten me through the funnest of times and the
hardest. My mom would incourage us to listen and express ourselves through the music we
heard playing around us. My older sister used to sing to my little sister and I all the time and
even got us involved. We would perform little shows where we would sing and dance for my
mom after work. Pots and pans were the drums, we used a cardboard box and rubberbands to
make a guitar, and we had a little toy microphone for the lead singer. I remember Respect by
Aretha Franklin was always our favorite. We had a lot of sass and that song is all about the sass.

Cost Of Industrialization
Industrialization is the development of industries in a country or region. There were both costs
and benefits of industrialization in the Industrial Revolution. The costs of industrialization, there
was a lot of child labor and the factories were very unhealthy for anyone who worked in them.
There were a lot of benefits as well. It made the cities grow in population, and it needed a new form
of transportation therefore the railroads were created. The advantages do outweigh the
disadvantages but not how they were back then.
The benefits of industrialization are a big deal, creation of railroads and the cities grew. These are
two things that are still very useful in today s time. In the World History Textbook, written by
Spielvogel, he writes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the World History textbook it says, factoryowners sometimes sought entire families, including
children, to work in their factories (Spielvogel 366). In today s time, child labor is against the
law. Children should not be working in factories because they re small and they could get hurt
very easily. Another cost would be that the factories were very unhealthy for anyone who
worked there. The textbook states, industrial workers faced wretched working conditions. Work
hours ranged from 12 to 16 hours a day, six hours a week (Spielvogel 369). That means they only
get one day off and they don t get to sleep very much. The textbook describes cotton mills to be the
worst factories, the worst conditions were in the cotton mills, where the temperatures were
especially harmful (367). The cotton mills were very dangerous for the people who worked there
and even children worked in them.
The benefits of industrialization do not outweigh the costs, as they were back then. Nothing can
outweigh child labor or how unhealthy the factories are. Children were working in the factories and
that in itself is bad, but with the factories being extremely unhealthy, it made it way worse for them.
If industrialization happened it today s time, where child labor is illegal and they do health
inspections, then the benefits would outweigh the

It is interesting to see how our prison came about. Through the years and centuries we have been

Writing Instruments That Evolved Into A Process

used this to compose my first and final drafts of my narrative and persuasive essays. Originating
the term, I had a fear and deep resentment for writing; however, in week three, I finally attained a
point where I began to enjoy the writing process. When I look back over the last eight weeks, I

The epic journey of The Old Man and the Sea describes struggle, discipline and manhood. The

and into dullness that he mistrusted. (74) Once both the fish and Santiago had reached the

conditions that both characters were suffering from. The old man proves himself worthy of
personal suffering with the cuts and scars on his hands and back along with all of the pulling and
slipping the cords had upon his fragile body. Hemmingway shows in a big way how an out of

significance of Santiago searching for his rebirth to manhood. With constant abstraction describing
the fish and the sea in relation to brotherhood create interesting questions for Santiago to ponder.
His rationalization for his fishing is that he was born to do it. A man can be destroyed but not

Prenatal Development And Development Of A Fetus
Prenatal development, also known as antenatal development, is the process of the development of a
human fetus during pregnancy, from fertilization of the egg until the birth of the child. There are
many factors that can contribute to the development of the fetus and many threats that can impact
it. Most prenatal developmentoccurs in a normal manner, however; there are many things that can
go wrong during this vulnerable time and usually are caused by genetic or environmental factors.
While the hazards that threaten the development of a fetus can be easily steered clear of, dangers
do exist and should be recognized to ensure the fetus undergoes complete and healthy maturation.
The growth of the fetus that takes place during the nine months of prenatal development is a very
important and susceptible time. Anything the mother is exposed or even ingests makes its way into
the placenta and to the fetus. Some risk factors for prenatal development include the age and
nutrition of the mother, exercise, and stress levels. On behalf of environmental factors that can have
a negative effect on growth and development of the fetus, teratogens which are substances in the
environment that can have a harmful effect on the development of the fetus (Stein, Kline Kharrazi,
1984) are the main environmental threats. The detrimental effects of teratogens depend on many
different factors such as the amount of exposure that the fetus is in contact with, heredity, and any

Nicomachean Ethics Reflection Paper

That is the highest end and the best life we could possibly live. Eudaimonia is translated as
happiness. Even though it does not mean what we understand happiness to be. Eudaemonia is so
much more than just being happy. Aristotlewrote, For we have said that happiness is a certain sort
of activity of the soul in accord with virtue (Aristotle 9). To reach eudaimonia, a person has to be
functioning well. In order to be functioning well, we have to act using logos, which is our reasoning.
Another part of Aristotles theory includes the idea of virtue. From my understanding, Virtue of
character has a lot to do with our actions. It looks at what makes us do what we do. He explains,
Virtue, then, is of two sorts, virtue of thought and virtue of character (Aristotle 18). In order to
reach eudaimonia, we have to act virtuously. That is done by doing the right thing and knowing
that you are doing it. Virtue of character is something that we do not automatically just have. It is
something that we have to work on and practice. With practice, right actions will become habits.
The virtuous person is someone who does not have to think about what the right thing to do is,
they just do it. There is also the virtue of thought. This can be broken down into two parts, sophia
and phronesis. Sophia is translated into english as wisdom. In other words, sophia could be
viewed as being book smart. It is the type of person who has a lot of factual

Claude Debussy, best known for breaking the rules of tonality, has written and composed many
pieces that still influence musicians today. His talents were noticed by everyone he came in
contact even with at a young age. Nevertheless, people were scared of his innovative music
because it was unlike anything they had heard before. He embraced nontraditional scales and tonal

The Movie And The Band Played On
AIDS brought on many ethical implications. As research was conducted AIDS became well
known. The movie And the Band Played On tells the story of the discovery of HIV and AIDS and
the political issues that went along in the scientific community. During the movie it showed how
each patient with AIDS were treated like they were not part of the human race. The CDC tried their
best to gather enough money for their research. Back then people were uneducated on what exactly
the nation was up against. At the beginning of 1982 there were 447 deaths related to AIDSby 1983
the death rose to 1476 (The AIDS Epidemic 1981 1987, 1981). In June of 1981 the CDC reported
an occurrence of PCP which is known as Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in homosexual males
in California (The AIDS Epidemic 1981 1987, 1981). Back in the 80s there was very little

finding of AIDS either Dr. Robert Gallo or Dr. Gottlieb. This was an ethical implication that was
ongoing throughout the movie. Don Francis who was part of the CDC wanted to help find what
exactly this unknown contagion was that was killing so many others. Another ethical implication
was when the gay society was treated as if they were the cause of the AIDS epidemic. AIDS did

Fear And Manipulation In Shakespeare s Othello
Jealousy has caused many problems throughout many peoples lives. The way one copes with the
effects of this file disease can cause them to do obscene things they regret in order to insure there
satisfaction about the situation. Manipulating someone who is ignorant to the fact that what
someone is saying is ludacris, can lead to that person fearing that what they are saying is true and

to a jealous mind, forcing the characters to turn on the person they love, and later turning them into
a evil fiend.
Othello s fear that Desdemona has slept with another man causes him to assume the worse and kill
his beloved wife. Othello never knew for sure that his wife had cheated on him but he was

9 Physiologically stress is when a person s brain detects a stressor and sends signals to the brain to
deal with the stress. The hormone cortisol is released from the adrenal gland in the body after
messages are sent from the pituitary gland. The cortisol molecules enter the bloodstream and are
transported throughout the blood. Any target cells with the correct glycoproteins bind the cortisol

Who Is Antigone Tragic Hero
Robert Rudelius

Mr.Liapa
Antigone, The Tragic Hero
Aristotle defined a tragic hero as someone who is born in wealth, we pity and fear and has the
potential for greatness but is doomed to fail, most commonly caused by ones fatal flaw. In
Antigone, by Sophocles, Antigone is the tragic hero. Antigone was born into a wealthy family. By
the first couple pages of the book we already pity her because all she wants is to bury her
beloved brother and there has been a proclamation saying that anyone who tries will be stoned to
death in the public square. Many people can relate to the idea of justice and rights, but more than
that, everyone can relate to her goal of honoring a loved one, especially in death. Every tragic ...

After getting captured for the crime of burying her brother. Crean asks her why she defined his
proclamation, she replies It was not God s Proclamation. That final Justice That rules the world
below makes no such laws. (208) This quote talks about how Antigone justifies her actions by
referencing the gods and her belief in the afterlife. She buried her brother because thats what the
gods would have wanted, and after his burial he would be free to make passage to where his
spirit needed togo. In the same context, Antigone says, Your edict, King, was strong, but all
your strength is weakness itself against the immortal unrecorded laws of God. They are not
merely now: they were, and shall be, Operative for ever, beyond man utterly. (209) Antigone is
saying Creon s power is useless if you put it in perspective of the gods power. Also the gods
respect the burial process and defying them could cause a lot of turmoil for the one responsible.
Antigone believed that she was doing the right thing in the eyes of the gods, and that she would
be respected for what she did in the afterlife. Antigone s loyalty to the gods was one of her fatal
flaws, it caused her to think she was above Creon s authority and gave her a reason to defy his

Mesopotamia Government
Government
In Mesopotamia, government was the most important aspect of civilization. The government was
the dominant group of people that had control over others, enforcing the laws and regulations they
had created and deter them from breaking these laws. If the laws were broken, you would be
punished in accordance to what you had done. In Sumerian, the king did not write down the rules
as everyone was expected to know them. Babylon on the other hand, had their laws written down
on a stone tablet which was created by the king of Babylon, Hammurabi. These laws came to be
known as The Code of Hammurabi and outlined basic human rights. The Code is now the basis of
many countries constitutions. With the absence of government, Mesopotamia would ... Show more

The priest was very powerful and the most important people, people believed that they have a
relationship with gods which is why they were a part of the upper class society. They were the
ones who taught people how to keep their gods happy, they also shaved their heads so you

or precious stones which was on them at all times. The lower class people had almost the same
type of clothing like the rich but it wasn t the same material, the upper class had a better clothing
material than anyone else. The slaves had no rights, they were usually with the king and the priest

Stereotypes In The Year 2000
Low cut jeans, halter tops, Von Dutch hats, and velour Juicy Couture tracksuits. Ed Hardy shirts,
fake Louis Vuitton handbags, and neckties as necklaces. Flare pants, chunky highlights,
rhinestones, and Baby Phat phone cases. Welcome to the year 2000. I bet many of you readers
just got flashbacks. I also bet many of you cringed and/or gasped in horror at said flashbacks. It s
not an uncommon reaction. Our own Andrea Klick summed it up when I told her my idea for this
column: 2000sstyle is disgusting! Indeed, most people would love to forget the aesthetic of this
particular decade. The transition from the oft lauded 90s to the big, fat, futuristic Y2K created a
culture dominated by Myspace, MTV, and Paris Hilton, with Kim Kardashian following her like
a spray tanned, bag toting lapdog. Call the decade too recent or call it too horrible; either way, a
2000s style revival is an idea oft dismissed. We ve kept the early aughts frozen in time, never to
be thawed and let their Victoria s Secret body spray scented charms flow back into the
mainstream. Until now. The first inklings of the 2000s revival popped up in 2015, most notably

Nazi Germany And The Soviet Union Under The Rule Of Adolf...
Totalitarianism is a governmental system where the country acknowledges no boundaries to its
power and where the country dominates all social means in an attempt to invade and control all
perspectives of private and public life. This is achieved through the country s use of technology,
propaganda, and horror. A totalitarian government tries to not only control all political and
economic factors, but also the values, attitudes, and ideas of its overall population, eradicating the
existing society with a utopian one. Many totalitarian methods, however, have distinguished
ideological intentions. For example, the states most generally characterized as totalitarian are the
Soviet Unionunder Joseph Stalinand Nazi Germany under the rule of Adolf Hitler. To control the
population and to expand the message of the country, propaganda was an excellent weapon. The
media is governed by the state and the free press does not exist. Both dictators also do not allow
public consultation, public opinion and disagreement is flattened through a that regularly kills
dissidents. Both dictators exploit the usage of forced labor camps where many died in either
concentration camps in Germany and Gulag camps in the Soviet Union. An unprecedented number
of people in both countries were murdered if they were thought to be enemies of the state. Thesis:
Both Stalin and Hitler committed some of the worst violations in history to achieve full authority.

This natural ability paired with his or her training will make them competent to handle crisis.
Incidentally, there will also be those who pursue the human service paraprofessional career field
for the wrong reasons and they will not be able to be affective while assisting those in crisis.
These individuals could potentially cause more harm than good for the client or clients in crisis.
This especially applies in the case of suicide. The following quote supports this idea. Suicide
does not generally come without warning. Almost always, persons considering it show
symptoms or provide clues to their intent. It is important, however, for crisis workers to know
how to read these and be able to distinguish between myth and reality. (Kanel, 2003, p. 76) Trend
Challenges Ineffective workers exist in every career field. The difference may be that with a
paraprofessional opportunity people may view it as a quick fix for a good job. These types of
workers are hard to identify until he or she begins working directly with clients. At this point it
may be hard or even impossible to identify and intervene on possible ineffective approaches used
by the paraprofessional. During crisis, there will likely not be a second chance at proper
intervention. Paraprofessionals will likely have direct supervision from professional clinicians.
This will help ensure the quality of services being rendered as well as a reference point for the

Analysis of Night and Fog Essay
The effective war film is often the one in which the action begins after the war, when there is
nothing but ruins and desolation everywhere...
Francois Truffaut
Francois Truffaut continued on to say that Alain Resnais Night and Fog, made in 1955, was the
greatest film ever made . The 30 minute film based on the horrors of the Holocaust and Nazi
concentration camps after World War II combines Resnais own cinematography with original
images and footage of the captives in their unfathomable state. The film is lead with a somber
narrative that not only accompanies the sobering images being shown but both compliments them
and puts them into perspective. Carl R. Plantigna s chapter from his book Rhetoric and

For example, the shot at approximately 9:05 that shows an image of naked, skeletal prisoners
waiting in line where the voice over narrates nudity strips the inmates of all pride in one stroke
demonstrates this authoritative position as the voice is dry and matter of fact in contrast to the
horrifying image, yet it is somber with empathy. Together with image choice, music and
cinematography, this Voice of God narration personifies the films perspective in order to not only
show but to explain to the viewers the meaning of what is on the screen.
Plantigna deliberates on various differences between the fiction and non fiction filmmaker,
particularly the role of imagination to the two differing styles of film. He discusses that the
fiction filmmaker freely creates imaginative events , where the non fiction filmmaker portrays or
makes explicit claims about actual historical events (104). He then puts forth the idea that
imagination is also important for the non fiction filmmaker as he as the creator decides how to
represent historical events (104). This is demonstrated in shot 237 where Resnais camera pans
over the ceiling of a gas chamber that has been carved in and scored by human fingernails and the
voice over narrates, the only sign but you have to know is this ceiling, dug into by fingernails .
Here, Resnais using his imaginative ability, has seamlessly

Mother Courage And Eilif
Fate is a perplexing topic for even when an outcome is known there is no way of perceiving how
it will come about. In Ancient Greece, the plays were written about well known tales of heroes
and the playwright would warn the audience about fate. More modern plays incorporate the idea
of fate in a similar fashion to the Ancient Greeks with a contemporary flair. The morbid, ugly
universe that is war desecrates the greatest of human virtues (bravery, honesty, kindness, etc.) in
Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children. Eilif, Mother Courage s brave son, joins the
army, much to his mother s dismay, which is when she decides to tell her children s fortunes. She
tells her children that their virtues will be the end of them; nonetheless, they do not attempt to
change their fortunes. Sure enough, Eilif is persecuted for stealing a cow during a break in the
war (this behavior that was considered brave during the war). Swiss Cheese, the honest son, is shot
for trying to return a stolen cash box. Kattrin is shot while warning a town of an impending
invasion. Mother Courage warned her children to be wary of their virtues, but none of them could
change their ways or their destinies. In this way, Brecht emphasizes the disillusionment of war....

Information Processing And The Human Mind
Information processing theories emphasizes on the way people focus on environmental events,
translate information to be learned and find a way to relate the information to the knowledge in the
short term memory and then store the knowledge in the long term memory; to retrieve it when need
be. The way we process information such as problem solving and critical thinking with such
efficiency, it is seen that we perform better than highly sophisticated machines. Even thou the
human mind is so incredibly remarkable, researchers didn t develop systematic models of memory,
cognition, and thinking until the 20th century. In the 1950s, the only pronounced research model
was the information processingmodel (IPM). Information processing is not the name of a single
theory; it is a generic name applied to theoretical perspectives dealing with the sequence and
execution of cognitive events (Sch.164). Because of these multiple theory perspectives, information
processing is short of a clear identity. Most of the researcher on information processing was done in
a lab where they studied eye movements, recognition and recall times, attention to stimuli, and
interference in perceptionand memory. The researchers are still trying to apply educational settings
that involve the basics; math, reading, and science.
Theorists believe that learning starts to form with relations between the stimuli and responses,
which is one of the characteristics in behaviorism. The only reason theorists don t

  • 2. Fear of public speaking Essay Your chest is tight and you feel like you re on fire. Your chest is tight ant you re burning up. The flash cards in your hands are crumpled from you squeezing them obsessively. You look up and see dozens of eyes staring at you, waiting expectantly. Taking a deep breath, you stumble through the speech. When it s finally over, you practically run back to your seat, cheeks flaming bright red. You slump down, already dreading the next time you ll have to deal with your upmost fear: public speaking. For as long as I can remember, public speaking has always been one of my greatest weaknesses. Whether it s a simple in class presentation or a speech in front of an auditorium filled with people, I can barely get my words out from the anxietyand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used the search engine Google with the search term public speaking fear and it brought up a great deal of interesting websites pertaining to public speaking. The first one I decided to peruse was 5 Tips to Reduce the Fear of Public Speaking on Psychology Today s website. I learned that public speaking is the number one fear in America, while the fear of death is second in line. This means that we re more afraid of speaking in public than we are of dying. I also learned five tips on how to reduce public speaking nervousness. The first one was Don t Expect Perfection from Yourself. No one is perfect but when it comes time to speak in public, some of us pick at every little flaw we think we make. We blow up our imperfections yet ignore the good things. Honestly, though, even the greatest and most experience public speakers can make a lot of mistakes. The difference is, when they do, they re able to gracefully recover and keep going as if nothing happened. That s one of the keys to success: keep going gracefully. Most of the time, the audience won t notice most of your mistakes unless you make them obvious by stopping your speech, breaking down and admitting your mistakes. You just have to carry through with poise and let yourself not be perfect. The second tip was Avoid Equating Public Speaking to Your Self Worth. Basically, if you re a successful professional who s worked hard for where they are in life right now, you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing The Three Abrahamic Religions Of Spain While there have been many differences among the three Abrahamic religions, there was a rich cultural interchange between them that took place during the period of Islamic Spain. Not only they managed to set aside their differences and coexist, but they also contributed in the development of arts, natural science, literature, mathematics, medicine, and many more; Inventions that are crucial in today s world. In the readings, most of the accomplishments made during the Golden Age are accredited to Islam, but to me, it is suggested that all three religions contributed somehow. One of the aspects of the reading that gave me the suggestion is the mentioning of the translation school in Toledo. This school brought together Jews, Christians and Muslims and their original languages to translate them into the Latin language, which at the time it was the language used in churches in parts of Spain. Works of important philosophers and scientists that had been translated into Arabic in the House of Wisdom beforehand, were now well known in al Andalus, Cordoba, Toledo, and other parts of Spain because of the coexistence of these three religions. Additionally, this time of learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was more about having power and being the best. It came to the point where religion was involved with the government. It s understandable that there are differences in beliefs, but not agreeing with someone else s beliefs does not necessarily means that what you think is right. It s all about accepting and respecting others. Even in all three religions there is some type of rule that says to respect one another despite the differences. But when politics get involved everything changes. People with power take religion a use it in misleading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Stanford Prison Experiment Philip G Zimbardo The Stanford Prison Experiment was created by Philip G. Zimbardo, a psychologist, and professor who taught at Stanford. The experiment s goal was to study how easily one will adapt to roles that are assigned to them. The study began with volunteers who were randomly assigned to become either prisoners or guards. It didn t take long for the guards to harass the prisoners. On the second day of the experiment, the prisoners started to rebel and test the guard s boundaries. In an attempt to keep the prisoners in line, the guards started to use physical violence; which was against the rules. The guards became more and more violent every day, the amount of abuse the guards displayed was totally unexpected. One benefit of the experiment was that it showed how easily one can adopt a new persona when put into different situations and environments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A tactic used by the guards to emotionally abuse the prisoners was giving the inmates a number, instead of calling them by name. The guards were dehumanizing the prisoners. Another example of dehumanization is when the prisoner first arrived, they were stripped of their clothes and put into dresses. The physical abuse the guards put the prisoners through is another downside of the experiment. The guards made them do push ups and other physical activity as a form of punishment. To make it harder, some had other prisoners on their back while doing the push ups. I believe this experiment is useful for several reasons. The first reason is it a great example of how easily people can conform to the roles that they are given. Another reason is that it didn t cause any extensive emotional or physical suffering after the experiment. This experiment also teaches other researchers what not to do. Despite the important findings, I do not think that any similar experiments should happen again because of the abuse some students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Early Gothic Cathedral An example of an early gothic cathedral is the Wells Cathedral, Somerset. It was built from 1175 1490s. It holds one of the most numbers of stained glass windows. The five windows in the Lady Chapel shows images of saint Dunstan, and the seven light windows on the choir which portrays the Tree of Jesse. This is a representation of the genealogy of Christ. Most of the carvings on the abacus are a foliage motif, but the carvings on the transepts closer to the nave holds more symbolism. They show four scenes representing the Wages of Sin through narrating fruit stealers at an orchard being beaten by the farmer. Another symbolic carving found is the lizard climbing the abacus, which represents eternal life. A 15th Century cloister contains many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The internal plan of the cathedral are greater in length relative to the width, and consists of a nave or central vessel with aisles at both sides and transepts which make the arms of a cathedral plan and creating a cross shape when viewed in plan. When the transepts are applied, it is normal to have them placed directly opposite of each other, for example like in Lichfield Cathedral. The Eastern side is where the most value is held in the Cathedral, which is marked by greater diversity in form, richness, and height difference of the ribbed vault. In England, the Eastern section is almost always a square form or similar, and less often an apse, which is a more semi circular or polygonal in plan. [2] The internal section of cathedrals are made up of a main arcade, which are arches supported by long and thin pillars. [2] Above that is the Triforium, and a Gallery surrounding it and above the aisle. On the highest level is the Clerestory, topped by the ribbed vault and the new roof. The roof is often enriched with tiles or other coverings. Ornaments such as mouldings, carvings and the use of colour have added a point of interest and beauty to the gothic cathedral. The gables, a triangular shaped wall forming the roof, is one of the most distinctive gothic characteristic. It is placed at the end of the nave and transepts. As a widely used rule, gables contain one or more windows. It all depends on how that certain colonist thought was better for their family. themselves, and the rest of the colonies. When thinking of the loyalist, people might think that there were a lot of them but really only 20% of the population of the colonies were loyalist. They lived in all colonies, both rural and urban areas. Some areas had more loyalist like New York and the Carolinas. The movie begins by showing a battle and then Knight coming through and pulling out some of the wounded and taking them to a field hospital. After we witness the gruesomeness of the war we are showed Knight s and other s opinion on serving. Director Gary Ross does this by having soldiers discuss a new law that states that if a man owns 20 or more slaves he is dismissed from duty to return and run his plantation. Many of the soldiers are like Knight who is poor and cannot afford to own any slaves. So, he is serving in a war for a side that victory would not benefit him. That same night Knight s nephew Daniel showed up at camp. He is extremely young but since he is poor and healthy he must serve. On Daniel s first day Newt accompanies him into battle. During the battle Daniel is shot in the chest. Newt takes him back to the doctors where he is denied help because they are only helping captains and officers due to the overwhelming amount of bodies. For example, the runaway slaves were just sitting in the swamp with no plan how to improve their situation. However, once Knight shows up he is able to lead and turn the situation around for them. The best symbol of this is when he removes the slave collar from Moses neck. Moses had become content with his situation and was not concerned with removing it but it takes Knight to remove it. Analysis Of Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior Critique The article, Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior, seemed like it had completely inflamed the entire United States due to the content that the author and Yale Law School professor, Amy Chua had included in her writing. This Chinese mother described her parenting style as superior and all knowing compared to the parenting style of the common Western parentwhich was described as anxious and conflicted. The article follows the structure of the chinese mothers parenting style. This parenting style can be described as very strict, very demanding, and extremely tenacious. After she explains her points, she gets into a story about her and her seven year old daughter. She sets the scene by telling us that her daughter is learning a new song on the piano. To make a long story short, Chau threatened her daughter by saying she would receive no food or christmas presents if she did not learn the song. She would not let her seven year old daughter get and use the bathroom until she recited the song perfectly. All of a sudden, her daughter learned the song after all the long hours of non stop arguing and yelling and practice. The first thing that really caught my eye was a statement by Chau saying that, Chinese parents understand that nothing is fun until you re good at it. (Chau 262). Many people would completely disagree because there are plenty of things that are fun, even if you are not good at them. Someone could love to draw or play a sport and be bad at it at the same time and that is completely okay. You should not have to be the best at everything you do because no matter what you may be good at, there is always someone better than you or someone that will think that they or someone else is better than you. Even though there are plenty of statements in this article that I disagree with, there is a few that I do agree with. Towards the end of the article Chau makes a very valid point about self esteem: There s nothing better for building confidence than learning you can do something you thought ... • 17. Calculus As A Part Of Modern Mathematics Education Calculus (from Latin calculus, literally small pebble used for counting )[1] is the mathematical study of change, in the same way that geometry is the study of shape and algebra is the study of operations and their application to solving equations. It has two major branches, differential calculus (concerning rates of change and slopes of curves),[2] and integral calculus(concerning accumulation of quantities and the areas under and between curves);[3] these two branches are related to each other by the fundamental theorem of calculus. Both branches make use of the fundamental notions of convergence of infinite sequences and infinite series to a well defined limit. Generally, modern calculus is considered to have been developed in the 17th century by Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz. Today, calculus has widespread uses in science, engineering and economics[4] and can solve many problems that elementary algebra alone cannot. Calculus is a part of modern mathematics education. A course in calculus is a gateway to other, more advanced courses in mathematics devoted to the study of functions and limits, broadly called mathematical analysis. Calculus has historically been called the calculus of infinitesimals , or infinitesimal calculus . For some background information on these, I will start by summarizing the movie Crazy Stupid Love. The movie Crazy Stupid love is about a man named Cal who has lost what his Manliness Mentor calls his manhood or what we will be calling it is his masculinity. Cal s wife leaves him to go be with another guy and all Cal can do is pout around at bars until a sly, young, and smooth talking man(Jacob) comes to Jacobs rescue to help him get his manhood back. This can be explained by a simple explanation. These men want to know the true meaning of manhood and masculinity, perhaps the character and/or narrator are just the director/ author and what they really are seeking to understand is the true ideas or perception of manhood in society. What does the author show that the director does not? The author in hindsight shows a lot of ideas that can be perceived as clichГ© and he shows numerous accounts of anecdotes, whereas the director sticks to one line of the story and shows the evolution of Cal s masculinity, as it starts as him being a less masculine, manly man. Then towards the end or near scene twenty one, it is seen that he is a dominant male or alpha male. How are these ideas important to society and what group are these pieces geared towards? The ideas are important to the male gender because no matter what a man tells you they are always looking for the true ideas of manhood even if they don t say so themselves; thus, these pieces (movie and narrative) are aimed towards intriguing the males in society. In conclusion, we can see multiple key ideas presented by both the narrative and the movie but the one key idea that sticks out and is Key to both plots is masculinity because masculinity is defined and shown in both pieces, whether it is implicitly or ... The old man proves himself worthy of personal suffering with the cuts and scars on his hands and back along with all of the pulling and slipping the cords had upon his fragile body. Hemmingway shows in a big way how an out of proportioned conflict with an old fisherman and an 18 foot long marlin helps to magnify the significance of Santiago searching for his rebirth to manhood. With constant abstraction describing the fish and the sea in relation to brotherhood create interesting questions for Santiago to ponder. His rationalization for his fishing is that he was born to do it. A man can be destroyed but not defeated. Prenatal Development And Development Of A Fetus Prenatal development, also known as antenatal development, is the process of the development of a human fetus during pregnancy, from fertilization of the egg until the birth of the child. There are many factors that can contribute to the development of the fetus and many threats that can impact it. Most prenatal developmentoccurs in a normal manner, however; there are many things that can go wrong during this vulnerable time and usually are caused by genetic or environmental factors. Anything the mother is exposed or even ingests makes its way into the placenta and to the fetus. Some risk factors for prenatal development include the age and nutrition of the mother, exercise, and stress levels. To reach eudaimonia, a person has to be functioning well. In order to be functioning well, we have to act using logos, which is our reasoning. Another part of Aristotles theory includes the idea of virtue. From my understanding, Virtue of character has a lot to do with our actions. It looks at what makes us do what we do. He explains, Virtue, then, is of two sorts, virtue of thought and virtue of character (Aristotle 18). In order to reach eudaimonia, we have to act virtuously. That is done by doing the right thing and knowing that you are doing it. Virtue of character is something that we do not automatically just have. It is something that we have to work on and practice. With practice, right actions will become habits. The virtuous person is someone who does not have to think about what the right thing to do is, they just do it. There is also the virtue of thought. Totalitarianism is a governmental system where the country acknowledges no boundaries to its power and where the country dominates all social means in an attempt to invade and control all perspectives of private and public life. A totalitarian government tries to not only control all political and economic factors, but also the values, attitudes, and ideas of its overall population, eradicating the existing society with a utopian one. Many totalitarian methods, however, have distinguished ideological intentions. For example, the states most generally characterized as totalitarian are the Soviet Unionunder Joseph Stalinand Nazi Germany under the rule of Adolf Hitler. Plantigna s chapter from his book Rhetoric and Representation in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the shot at approximately 9:05 that shows an image of naked, skeletal prisoners waiting in line where the voice over narrates nudity strips the inmates of all pride in one stroke demonstrates this authoritative position as the voice is dry and matter of fact in contrast to the horrifying image, yet it is somber with empathy. Together with image choice, music and cinematography, this Voice of God narration personifies the films perspective in order to not only show but to explain to the viewers the meaning of what is on the screen. Plantigna deliberates on various differences between the fiction and non fiction filmmaker, particularly the role of imagination to the two differing styles of film. He discusses that the fiction filmmaker freely creates imaginative events , where the non fiction filmmaker portrays or makes explicit claims about actual historical events (104). He then puts forth the idea that imagination is also important for the non fiction filmmaker as he as the creator decides how to represent historical events (104). This is demonstrated in shot 237 where Resnais camera pans over the ceiling of a gas chamber that has been carved in and scored by human fingernails and the voice over narrates, the only sign but you have to know is this ceiling, dug into by fingernails . Here, Resnais using his imaginative ability, has seamlessly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Mother Courage And Eilif Fate is a perplexing topic for even when an outcome is known there is no way of perceiving how it will come about. In Ancient Greece, the plays were written about well known tales of heroes and the playwright would warn the audience about fate. More modern plays incorporate the idea of fate in a similar fashion to the Ancient Greeks with a contemporary flair. The morbid, ugly universe that is war desecrates the greatest of human virtues (bravery, honesty, kindness, etc.) in Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children. Eilif, Mother Courage s brave son, joins the army, much to his mother s dismay, which is when she decides to tell her children s fortunes. She tells her children that their virtues will be the end of them; nonetheless, they do not attempt to change their fortunes. Sure enough, Eilif is persecuted for stealing a cow during a break in the war (this behavior that was considered brave during the war). Swiss Cheese, the honest son, is shot for trying to return a stolen cash box. Kattrin is shot while warning a town of an impending invasion. Mother Courage warned her children to be wary of their virtues, but none of them could change their ways or their destinies. In this way, Brecht emphasizes the disillusionment of war.... • 54. Information Processing And The Human Mind Information processing theories emphasizes on the way people focus on environmental events, translate information to be learned and find a way to relate the information to the knowledge in the short term memory and then store the knowledge in the long term memory; to retrieve it when need be. The way we process information such as problem solving and critical thinking with such efficiency, it is seen that we perform better than highly sophisticated machines. Even thou the human mind is so incredibly remarkable, researchers didn t develop systematic models of memory, cognition, and thinking until the 20th century. In the 1950s, the only pronounced research model was the information processingmodel (IPM). Information processing is not the name of a single theory; it is a generic name applied to theoretical perspectives dealing with the sequence and execution of cognitive events (Sch.164). Because of these multiple theory perspectives, information processing is short of a clear identity. Most of the researcher on information processing was done in a lab where they studied eye movements, recognition and recall times, attention to stimuli, and interference in perceptionand memory. The researchers are still trying to apply educational settings that involve the basics; math, reading, and science. Theorists believe that learning starts to form with relations between the stimuli and responses, which is one of the characteristics in behaviorism. The only reason theorists don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eniac Essay Sample The first fully functional computer ENIAC or Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer, spanned over thousand square feet, used eighteen thousand vacuum tubes, and weighed over thirty tons. A modern CPU however, is a thousand times faster than ENIAC. My curiosity for electronics was initially sparked by computers as it amazed me with its ability to perform billions of calculations in mere seconds. I was further inspired by the realization that electronics pervaded almost all aspects of modern civilization. Today electrical engineeringforms the underpinning of modern technologyand what fascinates me the most is its applicability in real life systems. The breadth of the subject and its rapid advancement makes it a very exciting and relevant field.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found that designing digital circuits and analysing the behaviour of electronic devices to be particularly demanding. However at the same time it has fuelled my interest in digital communication systems as well as micro electro mechanical systems or MEMS. The scope for miniaturization of electrical and mechanical systems to micrometre scales is very appealing. I find it intriguing that these extremely small systems can cause effects on a macro scale, such as the ability to steer an aircraft by placing tiny actuators on the wings of an aircraft. Apart from these subjects, vector calculus and complex analysis were very interesting topics. The applications of complex analysis in electrical engineering is significant, and a thorough familiarity with it has made it easier for me to understand several electrical ...
