Jordanne conducted an experiment to create a makeup tutorial video demonstrating a broken nose look. She filmed the tutorial on a model and edited it together with background music in Adobe Premier. Some challenges included poor video quality from using an iPad and issues with the editing software. For her final product, Jordanne plans to include tutorial videos like her experiment but add subtitles or a voiceover to explain steps and products used.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
2. PROCESS
To produce my experiment I first had to make sure the model I wanted to use
was available on the day I needed her as I needed to stick to a timetable to
make sure I was on track with my work to get finished on time.
After I asked my model if she was available we set a date and she came
around to mine and we talked about the looks we could create that wasn’t
going to take to long as it was only a experiment we went with a broken nose
look as it wouldn't take that long as it was only a small area I was working on.
We then had to go on to recording me creating this look we started by setting
up the camera and making sure it was set up correctly, the lighting, the angle
of the camera, the height of the camera, the position of the camera and model,
I needed to know what seat the model was sitting on so I knew how high to
place the camera to make sure I got her in shot I then needed to make sure
you would see me creating the look with the different products I was using. I
then got all of the make up out that I needed so I didn't have to try find the
different make up whilst recording. After everything was ready we could get on
to recording me creating the look. It took around 15 to 20 minutes but I
cropped it down so the tutorial was so long.
After I had finished recording I took a few pictures of the look so that I could
add these later on in my website and at the end of my tutorial video.
3. PROCESS
For my experiment I decided to create a short video of me creating a simple look,
I haven’t put any speech in to this or a voice over because I didn’t feel like it
needed it, I have just chosen a upbeat tune for the background music as this is a
fast beat song and will keep the audience attention so they won’t switch off half
way through the tutorial, I knew this would fit well from the existing products I
have looked at all use upbeat backing music and I knew it wouldn’t take the
audiences attention away from the visual aspect of the tutorial.
I first had to gather all my footage of my videos and music so I then could go on to
editing them and putting it all together to get my final result. I created this look on
one of my models (16 year old female) this is going to be one of my models I use
for my final product. I just created a simple look on the nose making it look like it
had a serious cut. I didn’t have access to a dslr camera for this as I didn’t have
time to book them so I just had to use my IPad so it is poor quality so for my final
product I have made sure I have booked equipment such as a camera and tripod.
4. PROCESS
After I had got my videos that I needed I then put everything into Adobe Premier and
started to cut the video as I had to stop half way through production whilst filming so it
had a long break I also messed up a little so I was able to edit this out in Adobe Premier
allowing my video to run smooth and look like I’ve not heavily edited anything. I had a
problem with the program as it wouldn’t allow me to do anything and it deleted everything
so I had to start again and saved more regular so this wouldn’t happen again.
When I first imported my video into Adobe Premier I watched the video all the way
through making sure it was all there. I then thought about making the video shorted as it
was too long for a tutorial video this is where I used the ‘razor’ tool in Adobe Premier
allowing me to cut parts out I didn't want my audience to see. To make sure it was in the
right place I zoomed into the timeline to allow me to see it in each econd i then used the
space bar to stop and start the video this give me more of a accurate cut in the video. A
few times i cut the wrong part out so i used the step back button to allow me to go back
to where i craeted the mistake so i could re cut the video inthe right place.
I also had to pick a backing track to play along side the tutorial video as I didn't have time
to create a voice over but I thought it was fine with out. I went on to YouTube and looked
at other tutorial videos and the type of backing music they use I then had a look and
several different tunes and picked one called ‘ cheerful and upbeat music’ I then had to
copy the html in to a mp3 converter to allow me to use in in my tutorial video. After I
imported it into Adobe Premier I then cut it to the same length as my tutorial video and
added some effects on to the music to fade in and out of the video.
5. PROCESS
After I had got the video perfect and how I wanted it I then went on
to placing some images at the end of the video to show the end
result to my audience this then shows them how mine turned out and
this is what theirs should look like if they have followed what I have
done. I have added in a variety of images from different angles as
this is what your audience want to see so they know what to create.
With putting the image I had a problem because the image imported
as landscape so it wasn’t the right way so I had to figure out how I
could flip them portrait. With help I found out you can go into effects
controls down to rotation and you can easily change it in there. This
is handy to know just in case it happens when I come to do my final
product.
6. PROCESS
The thing I like most about this experiment is how you can
watch me creating this look on the model, you can see
everything that I do from molding the wax outline to adding the
littlest details. I also like the pictures I have add in at the end
of the video to show my audience what it looks like. I also like
the music I have chosen it is very upbeat and fits in perfect
with what I am doing.
The things I could improve on would have to be adding in a
voice over or subtitles telling my audience what I am doing
and using. I think also I could do with speeding the video up
as it does take a long time to show the audience so I could do
with turning up the speed on some little bits. I think I could
also ad in a clip of the products I am using so they can see
what they look like making it easier for them to buy them.
7. REFLECTION
What elements of your experiments will you include
in your final product?
The elements I will be including in my final product from
my experiments I will include everything that I have
done tutorial videos with music and pictures as I found
out in my questionnaire the majority of my audience
would prefer seeing tutorial videos to written
communication. A few things I would change is add in a
clip or pictures of my products I have sued in that video
as my audience in my research said they would like to
know the products I am using, another thing I would add
is a voice over or subtitles this would make it easier for
my audience to understand what I am doing and using
and also tell them handy tips.
