The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell
GS 435 Book Review
The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell
By: Jordan Petruska
Professor Tom Deligiannis
Friday October 9, 2015
The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars,
academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. The first and only use of
nuclear weapons occurred in 1945 during the Second World War, wiping out over 200,000 Japanese
civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs, were now viewed as the number one threat that
could potentially destroy our planet and the human race. Since 1945 nuclear weapons have since been
a strong threat that has imposed a psychological anxiety for world leaders as this threat has expanded
to fifty countries with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third and final proposal is taking greater action on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to confirm
all nations are on the same playing field to dismantle nuclear weaponry. I plan on providing updated
analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone on since
then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S. and the
rest of the world stands.
It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many of
us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of life.
The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over global
politics and has advocated for the non proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a robust
roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the Cold War,
where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to the
spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq and Pakistan,
increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important foundational questions
like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat been revived? The Seventh
Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear

Controlled Flight Into Terrain Essay
Introduction
The aviation community generally defines CFIT as any collision with land or water in which there
was no detectable mechanical or equipment failure, where the pilot was in control of the aircraft but
lost situational awareness and flew into terrain. (Bensyl, Moran, Conway, 2001, pg 1037) According
to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and
the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), CFIT can be caused by many factors. Nevertheless, it is primarily
caused when a pilot or flight crew is unaware that a dangerous situation exists. Problems such as bad
weather, information overload, instrument confusion, night flight, poor air traffic control
communications, or malfunctioning ground ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These procedures or checklists are designed to ensure that all possible dangers are addressed by the
flight crew in a given situation making them aware of those dangers so they may avoid them.
Shortcuts or omissions of these procedures may allow for a potential problem to go unnoticed
resulting in the development of a dangerous situation that may jeopardize flight safety.
• Situational Awareness (SA): A flight crew s loss of situational awareness is identified when a pilot
controls an aircraft to the wrong parameters. Doane states that SA has been highlighted in the aviation
domain as an important precursor to performance failure. (Doane, Woo Sohn, Jodlowski, 2004, pg 92)
An example of loss of SA is a flight crew descending an aircraft below 3,000 feet prior to being
established on the Localizer (an electronically provided extended runway centerline that allows pilots
to use instruments to line up on the runway). These types of errors are extremely dangerous since
aircraft may be close to terrain or obstacles and the flight crew is generally unaware that a problem
exists until it is too late.
• System Operation: Improper operation of engines, hydraulics, brakes and/or fuel systems; misread
and improperly set instruments or disabled warning systems are all examples of improper system
operation. Aircraft systems and instrumentation are vital to a pilot s ability to accurately fly the
aircraft. The failure of a

Tricking And Tripping Claire Sterk Summary
Claire E. Sterk s article Tricking and Tripping: Fieldwork on Prostitution in Era of AIDS published by
Social Change Press in 2000 takes into account the patterns and procedures that anthropologists take
into practice during fieldwork. She provides some useful insights and learnt lessons during her studies
with prostitutes. She also provides a close and intimate account of their lives and mental state in their
own words. Her findings are substantiated with proper examples in the accounts of the daily lives of
these women. Unlike most student s expectation of fieldwork as a leisure activity at some serene
place, Sterk observes the pain associated with the lifestyle and brings into light some important
patterns and procedures that anthropologists must consider while interviewing a research group. Sterk
establishes her point of view about importance of general study of culture by provoking the essential
human quality of compassion. She does so by describing the prostitutes as not alien and showing fine
human qualities. Their habitual formations and mental qualities are like other ordinary humans. She
emphasizes this theme by highlighting a poem written by a prostitute. The whole purpose of this initial
exercise is to create consideration among readers about the lives and activities of prostitutes. ... Show

The relevance of this study is greatly highlighted by its placement in a time when AIDS was becoming
more and more of an epidemic. During this time period prostitutes were seen as one of the greatest
carriers of the disease, this lead to them being looked down upon greatly by the majority of society.
When Sterk observed these women in their time of leisure and shows the aspects of their personality
outside their line of work it humanized the women and displayed that they were merely people who
are in an unfortunate

Write A Narrative Essay About Moving Away With Rosita
easiest challenge in the world, but even with Rosita s carefully planned list, we still came up with $4

Tax Deductions
Getting Divorced? Know About All The Associated Tax Deduction You Can Take
Getting a divorce can be an expensive process, but know that those costs will not necessarily cost you
their face value. It s possible to benefit from some tax deductions because of a divorce, which could
get you some of that money back.
Alimony
Are you the one that is giving alimony payments to your former spouse? If so, know that you are able
to deduct those alimony payments when filing your taxes. The main thing to know is that only court
ordered alimony payments are considered a deduction on your taxes, and those payments must be
made in cash. If you give your spouse something that is worth the value of the alimony payment, you
cannot deduct it on your taxes. Additional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, those still living within the same home as their former spouse would not qualify for a tax
deduction.
Alimony Fees
For those on the receiving end of alimony, you will have to claim that income as taxable income.
Thankfully, you can also deduct any fees that are related to your alimony payments. For instance, if
you met with a lawyer for an alimony hearing in court, then you can deduct legal fees related to the
alimony. If you need to modify the alimony payment after the first agreement was made, those costs
can be deducted as well.
Keep in mind that there are limitations on how big of a deduction you can take. In general, if the fees
are less than 2% of your AGI (adjusted gross income) then you should be fine.
Tax Consultation Fees
Taxes will play a big part of a divorce, and chances are that you will be talking to your divorce lawyer
about it at one point or another. Any time you talk to your lawyer about taxes, take note of it and
determine what the billable cost is for their time. These consultations you receive about taxes can be
considered a tax deduction as well. Just make sure that you are not including any billable hours
towards your actual divorce, since those are not tax related.
For more information about tax deductions related to a divorce, speak with your lawyer about it. After
all, that time spent discussing it will be deductible in the

Coles Phillips 1911 Life Magazine Analysis
Coles Phillips creates his own type of girl during the teens of the century with the fadeaway girl . To
do this, he would combine parts of the foreground and background through one color. Phillips
specialized in closure, where one erases details of the picture but it can still be read as a completed
image. He used simplicity and seperated values to define form by the objects around it, utilizing
negative space to its utmost ability. In his 1911 Life Magazine cover, he uses the blocks of red orange
to accentuate the body of the woman. The viewer cannot see her clothing, but because of the shapes
they can fill in the information. NC Wyeth was also a master of communication in his illustrations.

Taking a Look at Naturalism
Naturalism
The style of naturalism, naturalistic writers writers, and naturalistic works were very influential during
the1880 s to 1940 s. Naturalism began as a literary movement that used some what of a detailed
realism of things to prove that social conditions and environment had shaped the human race. This
form of literature was a way of explaining the ways and beauty of everyday reality.Unlike
Romanticism, the use of romance to influence the reader, or Surrealism, the use of artworks and
writings, the readers did not need any type of idealistic or supernatural treatment. Most writers of
naturalism became influenced of Darwinism, or the theory of evolution. They believed that the
characters social environment determined who they truly were. Most, but not all, naturalistic works
exposed the harshness of life. For this reason, naturalistic writers were constantly criticized for
focusing on the misery of the world. Within naturalistic works, different styles are used. There are
more styles of writing in literature but not all of them are used in naturalism.Three of the most
common styles or forms of writing are satire, impressionistic, and sensational. These styles have some
similarities but are used for different reasons.
Satire is the critique of what the author sees as dangerous religious, political, moral, or social
standards. It is sometimes graphic that focuses on abuses and shortcomings with the intent of
discriminating individuals, corporations, government or

The Giver Community Is A Dystopia Essay
The giver community is a dystopia. I know this because when you compare the giver community to
our world it takes a minute but I guarantee it is a dystopia, you can see this because on the out side
looking in, you know all of the secrets that make up the giver community. another reason it is a
dystopia is because when people imagine a perfect world it is not anything like the community of the
giver, lastly is the fact that the government plans out people s lives. I will go into detail and make
many other points in this essay about both sides of this question.
The giver community is a dystopia first of all because when you are on the outside looking in, you

This is just one of the many examples in the book that show that the government can control your life.
Not to mention how they also control your significant other, your job, your siblings, and your life
decisions, and even your personality traits. Just think about no being able to choose the person your
supposed to love and get through life together with.
You could argue that the community is a utopia because everyone is happy and that the people not
knowing what is going on is a good thing. Or that people not saying mean things and expressing what
they truly feel is a good thing because it won t cause arguments and fights. Even the fact that people
don t have a choice with family and more importantly significant others could mean that there are no
divorces and no fights about who Marries who. Another example why it could be a utopia is that
people don t have to choose their jobs so they don t need too tire themselves out working super hard
just to get the job that you want. I agree that the government choosing and planning your whole life
out for you can be a good thing. But their are so many other bad things about the community that it
outweighs all of the good.
In conclusion I think that the leader is dehumanizing the community and focusing too much on the
requirements to have a utopia and not how the actual citizens would feel if they knew

Ancient China s Multipolar System
Systems are comprised of different actors (states or governments), which interact in a way that can be
characterized as a whole. Certain actors in these systems can develop economically and militarily. The
actors may be categorized under multipolar, bipolar or unipolar systems. Multipolarity presents itself
as multiple countries, typically 3 or more, which have comparable amount of military and economic
power. Bipolarity occurs when two countries have equal economic and military capabilities.
Unipolarity exists when one powerful entity dominates the rest. The stability of these systems may
depend on the category of polarity. A system is considered stable when no more than 10% of a state s
power is reduced after a war. Looking at Chinese/Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These states formed the multipolar system as they exercised control over activities and negotiations of
the surrounding weaker units. Then, Athenians established and ruled over the Delian League, alliances
made up of independent and tributary city states. Many of these city states voluntarily accepted the
effective Athenian laws, courts and currency. In turn, Athens provided their allies with protection
against Persia and pirates. Athens also facilitated trade connections between its allies and the non
Hellenic people. Amidst the success of Athens, serious disputes over the fear Athenian imperialism
and expansion rose. For that reason, the Spartans led the competitors and established a rival
organization, the Peloponnesian League. By 431 B.C., the Greek city state system shifted from being
multipolar to bipolar. Athens led one bloc and had the support of its voluntary and tributary allies. On
the other hand, Sparta led the other bloc with the members of the Peloponnesian League. The bipolar
characteristic of the Greek city states was stable. First of all, no wars were fought (no state lost power
at all) in order to create the Delian League or Peloponnesian League. Voluntary actions to accept
alliances with the two blocs of Athens and Sparta made this bipolar system stable even with the
conflicting

Edmund Booth was an extraordinary man, especially considering the difficult pioneer era he lived in.
He was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on August 24, 1810. On March 8th, 1815, at the age of four,
Edmund contracted meningitis, and was not expected to survive this horrible disease. After being very
ill for three months, to the surprise of many, Edmund survived. Unfortunately, the meningitis cost him
his hearing (slight hearing left in one ear), and the sight in one eye. By age eight, his remaining
hearing in the one ear had dissipated, and he was now profoundly deaf. Although he was now
disadvantaged in a time when disadvantaged people didn t fare well, he once again proved everyone

The content of Edmonds writings clearly showed his above average education, passion for reading,
and concerns for proper education for the deaf. Around 1830, Edmund was invited to be a temporary
teacher at the American School for the Deaf, as the current teacher had become ill. His first class
contained four girls and eleven boys. One of the students was named, Mary Ann Walworth. Mary Ann
was a cute young teenager that also became deaf due to spotted fever. Mary Ann left quite an
impression on her young teacher. Edmund now age 21, six foot and three inches tall, and built like a
horse, was a strapping figure of a man. In the fall of 1831 Edmund became a full time instructor at the
American School for the Deaf. Unfortunately, Edmond was struggling to survive on his teacher s
salary. In time, Edmund because disillusioned by his financial struggles and low salary and decided it
was time to leave. During Edmund s travels to find himself he settled in Amanosa, Iowa. This is where
Edmund founded the, Iowa School for the Deaf. Additionally, this is where he came across the young
deaf student that caught his eye in his previous classroom, Mary Ann Walworth. In time, they dated,
married, and began a family. Edmund never thought he would leave his family. However, the gold
fever struck, and the adventurer in him wanted to leave so he could provide a better life for his family.

Introduction:
This investigation is about whether the government should consider reducing the use of motor

people per kilometre they drive to help reduce emissions in the atmosphere. Instead of increasing the
price of petrol/diesel/gasoline, they want to charge people for using their cars. The main concerns is

and some of the negatives are greater volume of vehicles and greater traffic flows and congestion. The
Victorian Government says In Australia in 2002, cars contribution 43 million tonnes of carbon dioxide

God calls his people to obedient. In return for obedience, God promises to provide. During the time of
Solomon the people of Israel lacked obedience. God as king was no longer good enough. Israel s lack
of obedience caused them to anoint a king that also lacked faith in the Lord. Man is broken and even
great leaders have flaws. Israel s demand for a king ultimately resulted in the division of the kingdom.
During the time of Samuel, the people of Israel desire a king. God had promised to provide for the
Israelites and in return God asked for obedience and love. Throughout the Old Testament God always

Although Saul met all qualifications of what the ideal king should resemble, he lacked the most
important trait, obedience to God. Saul was identical to the rest of the people of Israel and wanted to
reign his way. Saul s disobedience caused his fall, For example, his usurpation of priestly functions
while awaiting Samuel to offer the sacrifices at Gilgal before the battle with the Philistines caused
God to vow that he would remove the kingdom from Saul (Hindson 165). God rejected Saul as king
because of his blatant disobedience of God s commands, and God chose David as the forthcoming
king.
Saul was the ideal king the Israelites desired. David was the king Israel needed. David was not tall or
handsome but he was a man of God. When David defeated Goliath, not only did he fully trust God,
David gave all the glory of his victory to God. David possessed the vital attribute that Saul never had,
obedience to God. David trusted in God s timing and plan. Despite David having the opportunity to

Black Skin, White Mask By Frantz Fanon Essay
Unit 3 Paper: Black Skin, White Mask
In the book Black Skin, White Mask written by Frantz Fanon, the author analyzes the black
community under the rule of the white dominated culture. The book is a mixture of psychoanalysis
and personal experiences drawn from his personal life. While he was living in France. He mentions
experiences from his life and includes the theories from another physiologist in order to explain
culture. He is interested in explaining the consequences of a community and or individual when the
are ripped from their culture. He argues their culture becomes inferior to the superior culture which is
the oppressive culture. One of the key points he makes is the importance of maintaining once
language. The significance of adopting the language of the oppressive culture means once is adopting
their culture and the biological aspects of the culture. To speak means above all to assume a culture, to
support the weight of a civilization ( Fanon 17).
Frantz Fanon argues being forced to adopt and or assimilate to another culture is systematical
oppression. In his book Black Skin White Mask makes an analysis of colonized black people. Making
a point to mention the hardships of colonization and the consequences which are adapting socially,
culturally and racially. All of the following reasons come as a result of colonization. and

Deformation of this tissue results in depolarization of the neuron.
Both light touch and deep pressure are fast adapting senses. The bulb of connective tissue is involved
with adaptation. When deformation of these receptors first occurs, there is a burst of electrical activity.
If the stimulus is sustained, the bulb then mechanically adjusts to it, and allows the sensory nerve to
repolarize. The effect is loss of sensation. As soon as the pattern of deformation changes, the neuron
immediately depolarizes again. The overall effect is to increase sensitivity to changes in the pattern of
physical contact (touch) with the environment.
Observations to make:

An alternative strategy for storing the female germ cells is cryopreservation of ovarian tissue. This
method allows the storage of a large number of oocytes (within primordial follicles). Unlike fully

characteristics make them less vulnerable to cryodamage. The most important of these features are:

(b) low metabolic rate of the oocyte.

During freezing, because the salts out of the portion of the frozen water, the concentration of
electrolytes and other salts can be increased to very high levels, so that it can be toxic for proteins

During thawing, the cells are placed in the wash solution, so that cryoprotectants can be washed and

The cells are swollen due to the water inlet, and slowly shrunken after removal of cryoprotectant.

The Rise Of The Roman And Ottoman Empires
With every empire that ever existed, there were highs and lows that contributed to their rise as well as
their fall in power each one somehow contributing to the rise of the next empire. Three great empires
that are perfect examples of this are the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires. Regarding the rise
and fall of these empires, there were differences that set them apart, however, there are several
similarities that merit a thorough examination, with the Roman Empire having the greatest influence
on society today. Factors that contributed to the rise of the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires
involve the following: some sort of unification whether it be political or geographical; a strong army;
and expansion. During Augustus Caesar s rule of the Roman Empire, he brought political stability to
his people by defeating Rome s enemies, and preserving aristocracy, the Senate, the elected Roman
magistracy, and Roman citizenship (Wallech et al., 2013). In the Mongolian Empire, Temujin, known
later as Genghis Khan, also defeated all his rivals and became the leader of Mongolian tribes (May,
2008). Under his rule, the tribes of Mongolia were unified into a single supra tribe also known as the

Literature And Songs Of Hebrew Literature
The people in mid 19th century, up until the beginning of 20th century, before the British .helped to
declare Israel a state; around Eastern Europe, the idea of nationality began to appear. Up until now,
Jewish people hadn t established a foundation that provided them with security; there was no real
place they could call home. Because they didn t have a place that was their own, other nations around
the world didn t view them as a nation, they were seen as individuals. Around this time, anti Semitism
began to emerge, it was time for the Jewish people to come together as one and let go of their past and
that desire drove them to a pivotal point in Jewish history. By analyzing different pieces of Hebrew
literature and songs that were written during this time in history, the evidence shows that the definition
of Jew changed and Jewish people started to look at themselves differently and gained confidence to
be a nation and not an individual. Avraham Shlonsky wrote a poem titled Tiller of the Soil
characterizes and defines the Jew and his/her hard work for the land and their passion for it. The way
Shlonsky uses the words and play on words emphasizes the point of a hard working Jew. One of the
lines that Shlonsky states is, Never before was the distance so small, Between man, And camel, And
sky. This statement that he makes illustrates how the people are united with the land and their God, it
also expresses the feeling they ve always hoped and prayed for. Shlonsky

The Movie World War Z Is A Zombie Apocalyptic Horror Film...
The movie World War Z is a zombie apocalyptic horror film directed by Marc Forster. The movie was
loosely based off of Max Brook s novel of the same name. Overall, it accrued positive reviews with a
successful box office. Steve Persall applauded its aesthetic features, as it offers vivid images of what
these monsters are about and what they re capable of doing . Matt Zoller Seitz, on the other hand,
argues that [it s] as if someone watched the similar 28 Days Later and thought, That was a good
movie, but it would be better if it cost $200 million. The critics generally agree that it is an action
movie as the zombies twitch, leap, gnash, and destroy (Chris Cabin Slant Magazine). But they
disagree on the appropriate rating and whether the film was, overall, satisfying in producing
something original. It is balanced in violence and carnage, but keeps it friendly and evades images of
blood and gore (Chris Cabin). Its special effects and horror aesthetics give the feel of a science fiction
horror and action film as they were meant to evoke awe. World War Z is a good film and is packed
with action, suspense, horror, and visual appeal. The action within the movie is very fast paced, and it
begins during a Gerry Lane s family commute in Philadelphia. Gerry Lane (portrayed by Brad Pitt)
and his family fight to leave the congested streets that are filled with exponentially growing infected
lurking about. Gerry fends off hordes of zombies as they navigate the supermarket

This clarify the abandonment of construction project is considered as one of the most common and
serious persecution in the construction industry in Malaysia. There several causes lead to this issue
such as financial difficulties, mismanagement during the construction process, unexpected location or
nature difficulty, and lack of cooperation from local authorities. Beside these issues, I found that
industrial ruins also the main factor contribute to the increase number of abandon building. Buildings

The Role Of Nature And Nurture In Language Development
There has always been a considerable debate over many of the developmental areas for early
childhood, however throughout this essay it is going to discuss the roles of Nature versus Nurture in
children s language development. Language development can be understood by in which the way
children will learn to communicate language in early childhood. Nature and nurture both play vital
roles for learning language in young children, as it is fundamental skill to learn language. Thames and
York s (2004, p. 603) reference states there are a range of factors that are involved in developing
literacy; suggesting that both nature and nurture contribute together in language development. To dig a
little deeper, we need to understand that there are four main components to language development:
Phonology, Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics. The nature nurture debate can be asked in two
questions. First, do children learn and acquire language through a prewired section that s built into
their brains from birth? Or secondly, do children learn language through the participation in their
environment? (Berk, 2013, p. 359) Language is an important skill that children acquire, as it s the key
to communicating, learning and thinking. Children will develop in all developmental areas through
play experiences, observing, interacting with others while mimicking some of these actions, this refers
to how phonology is such an important component of language development. Phonology is the way in

Improving The Current State Of Healthcare
In Pocahontas county West Virginia, tourism is the primary source of income for many, and the driver
of the economy due to the abundance of outdoor recreation available year round. Pocahontas
Memorial Hospital (PMH) is established to be a primary care source for this rural community, serving
approximately 5% of the state s population, with only a 25 bed facility (Pocahontas Memorial
Hospital, 2013). PMH wishes to deliver compassionate care and promote healthy lifestyles through
working collaboratively with other healthcare facilities, and delivering adequate patient education,
while sustaining financial viability (Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, 2016a). This organization has

There are other clinics located throughout Pocahontas county, encompassing a total of only sixteen
providers of similar specialty to care for a population of approximately nine thousand (Pocahontas
Memorial Hospital, 2013). The Pocahontas Health Needs Assessment (2013) determined that
consumers of this underserved region are specifically in need of services such as obstetrics and
gynecologic care, mammography, PAP tests, MRI, non emergency transportation, dialysis, pediatrics,
extended dental care to include crowns and extractions, colonoscopy, orthopedics, and ophthalmology.
Although the population of the county has decreased over the last ten years by roughly 4%, the
quickest growing population is that of those residents age 65 or older (Pocahontas Memorial Hospital,
2013). There is indication that the need for such specific services in order to keep residents out of the
hospital for non emergent needs, or from traveling for care, is imperative at this time.
Determining the feasibility of this type of project will require the evaluation of various factors, which
can generally be summed up by completing a market and SWOT analysis. Currently, Pocahontas
Memorial Hospital (PMH) is pursuing a strategic initiative which includes determining if developing a
satellite clinic within Pocahontas County is not only conceivable but also enduring (CSU Global,
2016a). These analyses shall be completed as part of the assessment period, guiding the Board of

Taking a Look at the Shard
The view at the top of the Shard is breath taking. London is seen all around you like a moving
tapestry. The View, which is situated on floors 68, 69 and 72 of the Shard, is twice the height of any
other platform in London. It has been London s long awaited attraction where people enjoy 360 degree
views for up to 40 miles. Our sense of vision in this day and age is key to understanding and
acknowledging everything around us. In architecture the idea of uniqueness is taken from the use of
light and vision expressed. Architecture is mainly made us of glass and other materials to support it.
Natural light within open interior spaces being illuminated and divisions dependent on light and
transparency are vital part of modern architect influence. Piano says, I have spoken of immaterial
elements. These are such things as light, transparency, vibration, texture and color, elements that
interact with the form of the space but are not just a function of it. I started out, in an ingenious, even
rather primitive way, from lightness . Piano s concept of layering light and transparency is compliant
to do many things all at once. To bring forward a certain architectural look, light is a general principle
and vision is involved. Building with a lot of material teaches you to shape components and replace
toughness with adjustability. Piano describes that taking things away from the material is also
removing opacity from material. That lightness is an instrument and transparency is a

The Architecture Of Schonbrunn Palace
Introduction
Schönbrunn Palace is a political, cultural, and artistic marvel as it stands today and during the period it
was made and as it exists today. The building and all surrounding buildings are meant to be taken in as
a whole, as if it were four walls of canvases each unique and significant while still being part of the
room. Schönbrunn is seen as a Gesamtkunstwerks. It was meant to out shine Versailles Palace in
France. (5,6) From the height of the Hapsburg Empire to the present, the Baroque style Schönbrunn
Palace has provided a splendid showcase for Austria s rich cultural tradition. It is situated on the
premises of former hunting grounds, the Baroque palace, completed in 1713 still stand to contest its

Essay On Enron Fraud
A once massive communications company was brought to ruin by the mishandling of DIRECTORS,
OFFICERS, and the CEO. Between 1999 and 2002 the CEO Bernie Ebbers orchestrated over $9
billion worth of fraudulent accounting transactions. Surely all of this was not accomplished by just
one man, this took teams of people who were unwilling to question authority or stand up during times
of corporate wrong doing. Therefore, the information to follow will contain explanation of how this
fraud was committed and by whom, the reasoning behind the fraud, the consequences of their actions
for them and the corporation, and the final outcome for the corporation and those directors and
officers held accountable. According to the Report of Investigation by the special board of directors
for WorldCom the accounting fraud was a number of unsupported and false accounting entries. During
the investigation key witnesses were unavailable for questioning and accounting documentation was
either nonexistent or piled on the floor of the storage area. This type of disorganization made it merely
impossible to conduct any formal audit. Interestingly, the auditor in charge over the course of this
fraud was Arthur Andersen who also conducted audits for Enron another company corrupted by fraud.
Mr. Ebbers was indicated to be the main person in charge of the fraudulent accounting transactions.
Through the course of this artifice, there were several other employees and officers involved;

Comparing Song Of Songs And Sappho s Love Poems
Both the Song of Songs and Sappho s love poems stem from the core concept of the overall intimacy
and indescribable nature of love. Both reach to describe love by comparing to the beauty of nature and
the underlying feelings presented by nature; however, the two differ in their specific context of love.
The Song of Songs covers what would be today called the honeymoon phase where the love is sweet,
perfect and what the world envisions, whereas Sappho takes the melancholic side of love, focused on
entrapment, and overall heartbreak. These differences create completely different stories of love, one
of life long happiness, and one of chasing love. The Song of Songs develops a theme of love with its
use of naturalistic comparisons. Throughout the song, both the bride and bridegroom ... Show more

Aphrodite to help satisfy her need for a fulfilling love, as is a common theme in her poems. Present in
both Song of Songs and Sappho s love poems, is the comparison of the rushing feeling of love to a
stream of water, a protective, but fruitful apple tree, all placed within a pleasant garden. The stream in
the Song of Songs is a spring shut up (132), representing a love that wishes to flow/be consummated,

Contingency Cost For A Maintenance Contract Based On...
In this study, a tool was developed to estimate contingency cost for a maintenance contract based on
historical records of the CO on the road maintenance activities. In order to develop the tool, the Visual
C# and the R program were selected as development platforms. As historical data, 614 road
maintenance contracts were received from Kenya Rural Road Authority (KeRRA) in Kenya. These
data were used for the validation of the tool developed during this study. The steps that were required
to develop the contingency estimation tool is given in Figure 1.
For the contingency estimation tool, a database system was designed and all the contracts data were
imported to the database. Similarly, the necessary input and output interfaces were prepared. The
contingency percentage is estimated based on the input parameters such as work category, road
surface type, road condition, accessibility, weather condition, location name, and the total activity
cost.
At the beginning of the prediction, this tool queries the historical data on CO in the database for the
selected activity. Then, this tool prepares an ANN model for the data prediction. The neural network is
prepared by the R program and these data are used to train the neural network model. Then, for that
activity, the contingency is predicted. This process is repeated for each of activities and the
contingency required for the contract is computed based on the cost weightage of the activities.
The tool that was developed during

estimated 5.5 trillion tons of coal, which is approximately one eighth of all the coal on Earth (25). The
energy that comes from burning coal is in great need not only in the United States, but also all over the

Mining enough coal to supply the world, would really take a toll on Alaska s climate because of its
vast environmental impact. In the article, There Is No Such Thing as Clean Coal the National
Resource Defense Council (NRDC) states that the main sources of pollution due to the production of
coal is methane emissions and particular matter emissions (2). Not only is the burning of coal harmful
to the environment, the coal transportation after it is mined also poses a huge threat. The NRDC
clarifies that diesel burning trucks, trains, and barges that transport coal spew dangerous chemicals
into the earth s atmosphere (2). Not only is it harmful to the atmosphere, but also to the land and water
if it happens to be spilled. The EPA states, truck records indicate that truck accidents near streams are
likely over the long period of mining operations (19). The addition of these toxic emissions to the
earth will greatly influence the issue of global warming on our planet and could potentially become
irreparable which would make life much harder for future generations.

ultimately force the wildlife out of the area, which will cause major problems. Since so much land and

Technology soon advanced as well. Inventions such as radios were developed. The mass production of

logic is like a three level pyramid with a few holes punctured at each status. The point of the pyramid
would represent the wealthy business owners. The middle would represent the middle class. Lastly,
the base would represent the third class or poor. Taxes would be cut from the first class in order for
them to obtain more money. This is important because it was believed if the rich had more money they
would use it to benefit their businesses. Then they would have enough money to hire employees.
which would give employees money and that money that employees received could go to them and
their families to purchase goods they were in need of. This money would help other businesses as

Longevity Of Anime Essay

The Longevity of Anime
Anime is a term for Japanese animation. It is a unique, detailed, and popular form of animation. It
tends to dive deeper into the more serious topics as well as creating shows and series that really
capture a broad range of viewers attention. Normally, one would associate cartoons with children and
how they favor them. Not with Japan, however. People of all ages watch and enjoy anime. Most anime
series target younger and teen viewers, but there are some created for the older viewers as well. Anime
has a large abundance of categories such as comedy, romance, action, drama, and even pornography.
Anime had started to flourish shortly after World War II and it has continued to grow significantly
over the years. It continues to evolve and I firmly believe that it will still be relevant in the future due
to its fast paced popularity, common art style in most cartoons nowadays, and its cultural influence.
Artwork for anime is one of the most apparent differences between Japanese graphics and other
countries. Huge eyes, brightly colored hair, well endowed female characters, and exaggerated
emotional expressions and gestures as typical if anime style (Kerr, 2001). Earlier anime designers
were heavily influenced by initial Disney characters such as the Seven Dwarves from Snow White,
Mickey Mouse, and the non Disney but popular creation, Betty Boop who was certainly well
endowed. Anime also tends to have

Surely You Re Joking Mr. Feynman Essay
It is hard not to enjoy this author. Richard Feynman is an extremely curious character with a lot of
time on his hands. He obviously loved to explore the science world as an art. He won the Nobel Prize
in 1965 for physics and was one of the greatest physicists of all time. Within the few chapters and
pages that I have read, Richard Feynman was definitely a man with a huge sense of adventure and a
very high intelligence. In the first chapter that I read (Testing Bloodhounds), I thought that it was very
interesting. I never knew that we, as humans, could smell and observe things just like dogs. To my
understanding we can tell just about anything from smelling and looking at something that has just

that no one really cared if he broke into cabinets or houses for that matter. The Third chapter that I
read was, Certainly Mr. Big! It was a chapter of excitement to say the least! I think that Feynman was
trying to figure out all of the games that people played with money and life. This chapter was not
really my favorite. It had a lot of information and it was just weird. The way that he explained the
situation with the high roller from Texas was kind of confusing and boring. Oh well, I guess you
cannot always enjoy every single chapter in every single book that you read. The one thing that I did
find out in this chapter, is that Richard Feynman likes women. That along with learning not to be a
gentleman is what I learned most. I thought it was different to hear that he did not want to be a
gentleman, but then when he explained it further with the Texas high roller I got what he was saying.
It was definitely a packed chapter with lots of information in it. The fourth chapter I read was, Is

Imagination in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner versus...
To the Romantics, the imagination was important. It was the core and foundation of everything they
thought about, believed in, and even they way they perceived God itself. The leaders of the Romantic
Movement were undoubtedly Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his close friend, William Wordsworth.

of immense power that cannot be rivaled: The shadow of the dome of pleasure floated midway on the
waves, where was heard the mingled measure from the fountain and the caves. It was a miracle of rare
device: a sunny pleasure dome with caves of ice . As if this earth in fast thick pants

  • 2. The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell GS 435 Book Review The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell By: Jordan Petruska Professor Tom Deligiannis Friday October 9, 2015 The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars, academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. I plan on providing updated analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone on since then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S. and the rest of the world stands. It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many of us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of life. The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over global politics and has advocated for the non proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a robust roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the Cold War, where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to the spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq and Pakistan, increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important foundational questions like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat been revived? The Seventh Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Controlled Flight Into Terrain Essay Introduction The aviation community generally defines CFIT as any collision with land or water in which there was no detectable mechanical or equipment failure, where the pilot was in control of the aircraft but lost situational awareness and flew into terrain. (Bensyl, Moran, Conway, 2001, pg 1037) According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), CFIT can be caused by many factors. Doane states that SA has been highlighted in the aviation domain as an important precursor to performance failure. (Doane, Woo Sohn, Jodlowski, 2004, pg 92) An example of loss of SA is a flight crew descending an aircraft below 3,000 feet prior to being established on the Localizer (an electronically provided extended runway centerline that allows pilots to use instruments to line up on the runway). These types of errors are extremely dangerous since aircraft may be close to terrain or obstacles and the flight crew is generally unaware that a problem exists until it is too late. • System Operation: Improper operation of engines, hydraulics, brakes and/or fuel systems; misread and improperly set instruments or disabled warning systems are all examples of improper system operation. Sterk s article Tricking and Tripping: Fieldwork on Prostitution in Era of AIDS published by Social Change Press in 2000 takes into account the patterns and procedures that anthropologists take into practice during fieldwork. She provides some useful insights and learnt lessons during her studies with prostitutes. She also provides a close and intimate account of their lives and mental state in their own words. Her findings are substantiated with proper examples in the accounts of the daily lives of these women. Unlike most student s expectation of fieldwork as a leisure activity at some serene place, Sterk observes the pain associated with the lifestyle and brings into light some important patterns and procedures that anthropologists must consider while interviewing a research group. Sterk establishes her point of view about importance of general study of culture by provoking the essential human quality of compassion. She does so by describing the prostitutes as not alien and showing fine human qualities. Their habitual formations and mental qualities are like other ordinary humans. She emphasizes this theme by highlighting a poem written by a prostitute. Regarding the rise and fall of these empires, there were differences that set them apart, however, there are several similarities that merit a thorough examination, with the Roman Empire having the greatest influence on society today. Factors that contributed to the rise of the Roman, Mongolian and Ottoman Empires involve the following: some sort of unification whether it be political or geographical; a strong army; and expansion. During Augustus Caesar s rule of the Roman Empire, he brought political stability to his people by defeating Rome s enemies, and preserving aristocracy, the Senate, the elected Roman magistracy, and Roman citizenship (Wallech et al., 2013). The nature nurture debate can be asked in two questions. First, do children learn and acquire language through a prewired section that s built into their brains from birth? Or secondly, do children learn language through the participation in their environment? (Berk, 2013, p. 359) Language is an important skill that children acquire, as it s the key to communicating, learning and thinking. Children will develop in all developmental areas through play experiences, observing, interacting with others while mimicking some of these actions, this refers to how phonology is such an important component of language development. There are other clinics located throughout Pocahontas county, encompassing a total of only sixteen providers of similar specialty to care for a population of approximately nine thousand (Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, 2013). The Pocahontas Health Needs Assessment (2013) determined that consumers of this underserved region are specifically in need of services such as obstetrics and gynecologic care, mammography, PAP tests, MRI, non emergency transportation, dialysis, pediatrics, extended dental care to include crowns and extractions, colonoscopy, orthopedics, and ophthalmology. Although the population of the county has decreased over the last ten years by roughly 4%, the quickest growing population is that of those residents age 65 or older (Pocahontas Memorial Hospital, 2013). There is indication that the need for such specific services in order to keep residents out of the hospital for non emergent needs, or from traveling for care, is imperative at this time. Determining the feasibility of this type of project will require the evaluation of various factors, which can generally be summed up by completing a market and SWOT analysis. Currently, Pocahontas Memorial Hospital (PMH) is pursuing a strategic initiative which includes determining if developing a satellite clinic within Pocahontas County is not only conceivable but also enduring (CSU Global, 2016a). Between 1999 and 2002 the CEO Bernie Ebbers orchestrated over $9 billion worth of fraudulent accounting transactions. During the investigation key witnesses were unavailable for questioning and accounting documentation was either nonexistent or piled on the floor of the storage area. This type of disorganization made it merely impossible to conduct any formal audit. In this study, a tool was developed to estimate contingency cost for a maintenance contract based on historical records of the CO on the road maintenance activities. In order to develop the tool, the Visual C# and the R program were selected as development platforms. As historical data, 614 road maintenance contracts were received from Kenya Rural Road Authority (KeRRA) in Kenya. These data were used for the validation of the tool developed during this study. The steps that were required to develop the contingency estimation tool is given in Figure 1. For the contingency estimation tool, a database system was designed and all the contracts data were imported to the database. Similarly, the necessary input and output interfaces were prepared. The contingency percentage is estimated based on the input parameters such as work category, road surface type, road condition, accessibility, weather condition, location name, and the total activity cost. At the beginning of the prediction, this tool queries the historical data on CO in the database for the selected activity. Then, this tool prepares an ANN model for the data prediction. The neural network is prepared by the R program and these data are used to train the neural network model. Then, for that activity, the contingency is predicted. This process is repeated for each of activities and the contingency required for the contract is computed based on the cost weightage of the activities. The tool that was developed during ...
