Here are the key points I gathered from the interview:
- The interviewee prefers tour posters with bright colors, unique designs, and decent text.
- They want merchandise to include a variety of colors to make it stand out from other products.
- A reasonable price range is important so the merchandise is appealing and accessible to the target audience.
- Bright, good images that stand out are most appealing on posters.
- A unique image is preferred for the album cover.
Overall, the interviewee emphasized unique, eye-catching designs with bright colors for visual appeal, and reasonable pricing to make the products enticing to fans. Variety in merchandise colors was also highlighted. This feedback will help make
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Existing Product
This tour poster has a
picture of the band in
the background, but it is
slightly out of focus and
blurry. This makes the
target audience want to
buy tickets because it is
implying that the tour is
more about the music
and less about the
people in the band.
The font they have used
for the poster, is bold
and easy to read,
making it legible from a
distance. This makes it
appealing to the target
audience because the
band have been
considerate to people
that may not be able to
see very far.
The colours used in this
tour poster are pastel pink
and blue, with darker
tones. This gives off a
mysterious/simplistic
vibe. It would appeal to
the audience because it is
nice to look at, and it
doesn’t cause strain to
the eyes as it is so
simplistic.
The setting of where
they are, it looks like
they are on a beach
where the tide has just
gone back out. This gives
off a peaceful vibe, and
it would appeal to
people as it is nice to
feel at peace. This is how
it would appeal to the
target audience.
3. Existing Product
This existing shirt is
showing darker
themes. This is shown
within the skeletons/
skulls on the shirt. This
is because normally
they are associated
with death, bad luck of
other scary things. This
would appeal to the
audience as they prefer
a darker theme within
their music.
The colours on this shirt, is
more of a darker colours
scheme, but there are other
colours that do contrast
with the darkness of this T-
shirt within the t-shirt itself.
The audience of this t-shirt
get enticed by the bright
colours and that is what
appeals to them and makes
it attractive to a lot of
people.
This shirt symbolizes death within the crucifix, as it is ironic because they are not religious.
It also connotes death as it is a crucifix and Jesus died on one. Also this is where the skulls
reside on top of the cross, which is also symbolizing death. This appeals to the audience as
they are fans of rock music, and this is a rebellious genre and the fans of this are just as
dark as the band themselves.
4. Existing Product
The font of this track list
is handwritten, this
makes the album feel
more personal and deep,
as this is what you would
assume to be Ed’s
handwriting. This would
appeal to the audience
as this fans want to feel
that personal connection
with their idol. They do
this buy listening to his
music that he has
handwritten himself, like
the track list.
The colour of this track
list is blue, this
normally associated
with depression. His
songs are mostly quite
sad or depressing. This
makes the album
personal as he is
sharing his self with all
of his fans and making
a connection with
them through his
music. This appeal to
the audience as they
want to have some sort
of relationship and feel
close to their idol, and
by letting them do this,
he is appealing to them
in a way not many
artist appeal to their
audiences.
The layout for this track list is simple. This connotates the
simplistic nature of the album, its stripped back, and honest. This
appeals to the audience as they appreciate honesty and the fact
that their idol is ‘normal’. Even though they are normal people, wit
extraordinary jobs.
5. Existing ProductThis album cover is black
and white, this seems like
it alludes to more of a
rock cover, but the more
you look into it the more
you see its halfway
between rock and rap.
You can see this by the
clothes they are wearing,
and the poses they are
pulling within the photo.
What the beastie boys are
know for is being different
and mixing the two
genres. This appeals to
the audience as it is
different, people who like
rap and people who like
rock both enjoy this
music, so it is smart to
aim their album cover
towards both audiences.
This font is the font of a band who make it look like they don’t try
too hard. They make it look fun, and not too serious. Some of
their songs have this nature as well, so this is why they probably
wanted to go with that kind of ‘vibe’. The fact they don’t take
themselves too seriously is appealing to the audience they aim
at, as people who like rock and rap stereotypically are people
who don't want an idol that seems very serious and ‘big headed’.
The camera angle is looking
down on them from above.
They might have done this to
show that they are not better
than anyone else. Like above
them, they are showing their
fans that they are just like
normal people making music
for fun. The appeals to the
audience because they can
relate to the artist that they are
listening to and understand
that they are normal people, as
all celebrities are.
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– They are all quite simple, and at the same time they
are very deep things, as they have another layer to
what they are, with symbolism ect.
– Also, they are all centred around music as this is the
product I will be making.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
- I will use the different symbolism and make sure that
my things are simple, and clean looking instead of what
would be the opposite to this.

18 rather than 16 or under.

my promo bright and also pastel so then both of the most popular choices
are catered to.

• Observation: That more people prefer the text to overpower pictures
on merchandise than not.
• What this says about my audience: That 57.14% of people preferred
merchandise this way, ad 42.86% disagrees, so its actually a close call
on who prefers what.

each, or just get rid of the image so it’s a simple shirt or jumper with
a few words on it.

music.
How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make an artist that does
make music.

Observation: not many people
took this question seriously, they
just made up a silly name,
showing my age range to be right.
What this says about my
audience: It says that some of
them are children, but some are
mature enough to answer a
simple question.
How will your product appeal to
this audience: I will make it simple
and fun to look at as my audience
seem to be less mature than I first
thought.

I like a lot of colour and a unique design to the product. I also like
some descent text to the poster.
• What would you like to see on merchandise?
I would like a variety of colours to be included that will make it unique

it easier for the audience to pay for and will make it more appearing
for them.

price so the target audience of 14-19 year olds can afford to
buy it.
• What this says about my audience: This says that they do
not have much money, as they are younger with no jobs or
part time jobs. A young mind normally does prefer brighter
and more fun colours than a older mind.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: I will make
sure it is bright and affordable. The colours will make the
posters seem fun, and the merchandise will also be unique
as well so that no one else has the same as what I make.

– Bright colours and for it to be legible.
• What would you like to see on merchandise?

images.

simplicity and bright colours.
• What this says about my audience: This says that my
audience isn’t very particular about what it looks like as
long as it is colourful, simplistic and cheaper than £30.
• How will your product appeal to this audience: it will be
exactly what they want it to be, colourful and simple.
23. Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
14-19 The colours and the different types of posters
and the songs that are on the ‘album’ need to
be relatable to that age group, of teenage love
or ‘puppy love’.
Gender
Female but males
as a secondary
audience
I will produce things that will be attractive to
girls, like the songs and the different posters
are more stereotypically directed towards
females, but anyone is able to be interested in
this artist.
Psychographic
Belonger &
Emulator
Produce clothes that are trendy and ‘cool’ to
wear as the merchandise. Also the songs on
the tracklist on the back of the album are
family related or love related.
Social Status
Middle Class. This is because they need to afford the
merchandise and albums produced, and
people to high of a class would not enjoy this.
25. Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and
weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
• Strengths of my research is that I made sure to try and describe everything I possibly could that would help me in my
product. I also tried to annotate a range of different music styles and different products such as posters, CD covers, album
covers etc.
• Weaknesses to my research is that it felt a little repetitive at times as I just couldn’t find other things that were similar
that what already was there. There was a difference but within the things I was talking about, but the basis of it was quite
similar.
– Questionnaires
• Strengths of my questionnaires was that I found out information from people that would be my actual audience. This
makes the information I get more useful as it is more accurate for what I will be creating. Also, it was a good way to
change up any ideas I had already in my mind, as the audience that I had in mind had changed from the feedback I have
from these questionnaires.
• Weaknesses of this questionnaire is that some people didn't take it seriously and answered silly things in the boxes where
I ideally needed an answer that was useful to my research. Another weakness is that some of the questions I asked made
no difference to my results as they were questions that just weren’t useful. An example of this would be the what is your
name question (no 10).
– Interviews
• Strengths of my interviews are that they were very personal and they were all answered seriously and helped me
dramatically with my results and research into my target audience. I also thought another strength to this is that I could
go to a target audience straight away without going through different ones first, I made sure I chose an older and a
younger person to interview.
• Weaknesses to the interview process is that it took too long for a certain person to answer his questions, and there
wasn’t much time for the second person to answer there's in much depth. Another weakness is that the answers may be
bias as the interviewees knew me and wanted to help me come to a conclusion about my target audience.
26. Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get
• The response I got, was that my product needs to be suitable for my audience. This
means making sure everything I produce is age appropriate and inoffensive to
anyone.
• My product needs to be colourful, as my audience have made it very clear that this
is what they prefer within a product. It also needs to be simplistic, this is because
my audience like the idea of a more clean looking product, than something that has
a lot of writing all over it. They think things look better when they are straight to
the point, and I couldn’t agree more.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
• I sent the link of my survey by email to people in my class. I also posted the link on
blackboard so it was easy for people to reach. I also sent it to a few people outside
my class to try get a wider audience.
• An advantage of this was that I got a lot of people to answer my survey, and it
helped me a lot with my research.
• A disadvantage of this is that there is a limitation as to who could get this survey as
you need internet access and the exact link to complete the survey.
