This proposal outlines a music-based project to promote a fictional band called Blue Lava. The proposal discusses creating album artwork, posters, and t-shirts to visually promote the band. It describes the band's backstory and genre as retro music. The target audience is identified as people aged 16-29 who enjoy retro-inspired modern music. Elements of research such as audience surveys and movies/games will influence the designs, focusing on neon and blue colors. Pricing for CDs, digital downloads, vinyl, and merchandise is outlined. Legal and ethical considerations are also addressed to avoid offensive, inappropriate, or copyrighted content.
This is my customer questionnaire. From this I have been able to establish my target audience and the particular conventions that will actually appeal to them. I will need to follow these when producing my three products.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Proposal

Working Title: Blue Lava
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Product’s Purpose: The purpose is for music, all the products I am creating is based on real
life musicians and merchandise such as T-shirts and posters. This would fulfil my goal in
creating an original and new band with a new genre of music, Retro. The product is meant
to visually draw in the audience as most other albums and posters for real bands and
musicians. I will do this because advertising is really important in the music industry and
making a good and appealing visual image will help the responses to my work. I also feel
like by doing this it makes it feel really realistic compared to real life and how a lot of effort
goes into the marketing and audience appeal side of business.
What is the product’s purpose (entertain/educate etc.) and how will you achieve this?
Genre: It is a music based project and the three products I am creating are all related and
relevant to the project and band idea. Basically, it’s to promote the band, the T-shirt will
have the album cover on it and so will the poster with minor adjustments. I want to keep it
familiar to the audience because if you have two completely different designs it may be
misleading and might cause fans or the target audience to listen to another band. This
could happen if our original theme looks different to the newer theme if we changed it and
the imagery changed then people wouldn’t know it was the bands merchandise. They get
the idea that it was another band or they might not like a second design entirely. With my
research I found out that a lot of band and musicians from the same genre of music have
opposite uses of imagery and also time has played a key factor with bands from the 80s
and bands from 2010s having completely different styles and themes even though the
music sounds the same and they are in the same genres of music. For example the band
Europe that was famous for the Finale countdown and the band imagine dragons famous
for radioactive. These bands are decadesapart but their music is similar.
What sort of product is it
Content: I will include a background story of the band on this proposal in order to give
people an understanding of who the band is and why they are musicians. The story is that
the band is made up by three lifelong friends 2 are guys and one is a girl. The guy’s names
are Rex and Tim then the girl is called Rose they went to school and college together and
later on perused their dream together and went viral with a video of them on YouTube, they
were instantly recognised by agents and managers and was soon contacte d by Simon cowl
which made them international and globally recognized as the Retro group. Ever since then
they have been generous and caring towards their fans. They would go on to tour across
the world and even taking their time out to visit hospital patients and rural villages in Africa
giving to the poor and hungry. They have even been known to make free live concerts
across Africa villages and towns. During this time, they have released their first album with
extra merchandise. They do this because they know people in rural countries will probably
never get a chance like it again to watch an international famous band play live, other
bands like Coldplay have done it before in the past and is generally viewed asa great act to
do and very selfless. This makes sense because the band members have the same ideals
and morals. This shows that the band members have a special connection and shows their
loyalty to each other.
What is your product about? Discuss what you would put in it (be specific). Does it have a story? If
so, discuss it here
Research & Planning: I will use the research I have gathered from the questionnaire and
interviews and just from my own thoughts and ideals. These sources are reliable and will
be the basis’s of my products. I will use these influences on the products as I think it will
boost the audience’s opinion on my project such as I will focus on the colour blue but I
might add secondary or third colours that were nominated the audience’s favourite colours.
My target audience does like the Neon retro theme a lot so I will try to incorporate themes
from covers like GTA vice city I will look at other promotional material to see if other games
or musicians have similar themes that I could use as inspiration. I also used movies such
as Tron as inspiration for my production. You can see what this inspiration was, the neon

grid ground on all my products I changed it for a better-looking grid for my poster design. I
knew that the movie was retro and I knew that everyone else had at least heard of it or seen
the iconic retro layout on the posters. I hoped that fans of the movie would also join my
audience. Purely because they like the theme of Tron and retro imagery.
Where will you use elements of your research and planning to influence and inform your final idea
(be specific to certain parts)
Audience: My audience are the younger generation between16 and late 20s. My products will appeal
to these age groups through the advertisements and though demos of the music either playing on
Spotify ads or on the radio. The visuals will stand out from most other posters and album covers so
that alone will help with drawing in the millennials of the world to the different and unique. These ages
are more enthusiastic for old music to be revived and put into a new genre of music. I will achieve this
by giving the older retro theme a new and improved visual presentation. It will consist of old classic
retro songs being revived with a more modern EDM remix this will attract the age groups that is my
target audience. The gender is split between males and females so both genders are attractedto this
genre. The social status is above lower class, and a majority are students in college or school. The
psychographic groups are split betweentype and balanced these two genres of people are similar
since they are both kind and generous people willing to help others in need. The social statuses are
C1 and C2, these statuses are accurate since my audience are achieving members of society not only
that but they are selfless, and most still just students. The way I will market the album and band is by
using things like radios and apps like sound cloud or Spotify but I would create those posters you
see at bus stops. This would get the word out more and quicker, if I could I would also advertise it on
websites like YouTube.com this website is heavily used by younger audiences so if an advert popped
up with the band and the visual representation of the bands album I think it would be appealing and
would gather more supporters and fans. I would label the prices for CD at £9.99 and for the digital
purchase it would be £8.99 people will prefer to pay for the digital download because it’s easier and
cheaper. But there will always be people who love the style of CDs and vinyl but for vinyl’s it will cost
more because of the rarity and the cost to make them, so that would be priced at £20 for an album. I
believe fans of the band will pay for these pieces of merchandise because people still collect vinyl’s
and some people prefer CD’s and then some just buy their music online and like collecting T-shirts
from their favourite bands. My audience would have a wide-open choice so they could receive just
one item, all or two. These options give my audience a variety of choices so they are not forced to
buy all the accessories if they just want one item. That’s the problem with some musicians nowadays
because they sell their merchandise together without the option to choose so if you want one you
have to buy the rest. That is a total scam but it’s available for purchase. I think my audience would
appreciate it if the merchandise wasn’t only sold as one and could be bought as separate items for a
cheaper cost. I think by doing this it would actually it will have a negative effect on the fan base and in
turn will have some backlashfor the band.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc
Why would your project appeal to this person?
Legal & Ethical Considerations:
My product will not contain any illegal or unethical content, as my project is and will
continue to keep mature and have a serious and positive output on the audience.
I am prioritising my audience to 16+ but younger teens can listen because no matter how
hard anyone tries younger generations are drawn to the rude and bad language songs and
the symbol for “parent advisory” has become a sort of figurehead for most inappropriate
songs with swears and foul language. For legal requirements, I have viewed my products
as none offensive towards any religion or social group or ethnicities. I will triple check my
work and make sure that it won’t offend anyone. I will only use my own original logos and
creation in order to avoid getting any copyright strikes.
My product is different from most products like other band album covers and posters and
the T-shirt design’s. I will create a unique symbol or signature that can be identified as that
band. This will help with the individuality of the band and overall theme of the production. I
will refer and abide by the general principalsof the ASA code of ethics, by doing this I will
uphold common and moral values for all societies, ethnics, cultures and personal views.
This will ensure that my products wont effect or cause any offence to a ny of the audience.
The logos and names will be completely created from scratch so it is not to be linked with
anyone else’s work. And I can assure that these symbols will not contain anything
offensive or rude to the audience.
I have made sure that my product isn’t related to any other product, so it won’t cause

copyright infringement which could lead to the product being banned or me getting sued. If
this did happen it could cause serious problems where I can be fined or even banned from
the practice so I won’t be allowed to make any other products like I am now. If this happens
then I won’t be allowed to finish my production but thankfully I have done my research and
I have made sure that my product is completely unique and different to everything we see
nowadays. I did uses a few images form the internet but I made sure that is was a copyright
free images so I can’t be prosecuted because I was within my own rights to use an image
without copyright.
Think about any offensive material you will include?
Will you restrict younger people using/accessing it?
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities?
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone?
Are you using characters/names/logos of existing products/IPs?
Will your product be sufficiently different from existing products to not get sued for copyright
infringement?
