This proposal outlines a student's short film project titled "The Conversation" which will explore how success is measured. It will feature two characters discussing this theme in a single location over 10 minutes. The student plans to research films like "My Dinner with Andre" that use a similar structure, and experiments with editing techniques. They will keep reflection diaries during production and conduct a final evaluation to improve their skills. Over 12 weeks they will complete tasks like research, screenwriting, pre-production, production, editing, and feedback.

Project proposal title and date:
The Conversation 24/2/21
Main area of activity:
Short film
Rationale:
I will expand on the feedback I got from the music video project. Use interesting filmmaking and
editing skills, that I haven’t used much before.
Project Concept:
Short film. Will have two characters, set in one location, under ten minutes long. It will be a
dialogue of how success is measured. One man is successful in the sense of money but lacks in
happiness, the other man is vice-versa. I will conduct research on films set in one location and
follow a dialogue structure, for example ‘My Dinner with Andre’. This will help me see how its
professionally done by great directors and could possibly inspire me into adding something into the
film or taking something away. Also, research into other people's opinion on how success is
measured and conduct experiments on a certain editing technique I want use, which will be
present in the script. I want to judge its effectiveness in case it doesn’t click in the real thing.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will conduct a weekly (daily once I get into the research and production) reflection diary. Note
down problems I run into and how I solved them. Will do a final evaluation at the end of the
product. This will help identify where I might’ve gone wrong, things to avoid in the future, I
constantly want to get better from each film I make so the evolution and feedback will help me
move forward positively.

(not all the films shall be used, I haven’t seen all of them, I will deduct the ones I find won’t help
me for example I found The Exterminating Angel through a Letterboxd list titled ‘The Dialogue is
the Plot’ plus its Buñuel. As for the book and YouTube video, I will use those)
Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Initial Ideas and Proposal Initial ideas- state what I’m making and why.
Potential problems, mind map, mood board.
Proposal Form.
2 Research Watch/rewatch the films on my research list. Watch the
films at least twice. First watch the film, then if it’s a good
candidate for case study research I’ll watch a second
while making notes and researching it fully, videos
essays, reviews and so on. Link to my project. Why is it
useful? What does it do? What will I take?
3 Research Move onto reading extracts of the book How Successful
People Think, make notes, take what is useful and
insightful to use in screenplay. Explain why I shall use
these points. Also watch the YouTube video on different
ways success is measured.
Then go onto the experiment. The segment that will be in
the experiment is practically already written.
4 Pre-production & Planning Begin writing screenplay. Contact actors. Organise
schedule. Contact location. Storyboards, shot list,
